[75.4] Chad N: guys been up to lately right now we're sort of stuck indoors because it's
[79.32] Chad N: really wide outside and and cold and we're not used to that yeah you
[87.74] Jack: definitely not anyway because like Australia like perfect weather do you
[91.32] Jack: reckon that that's what you got so good cuz you could fly every day if that's a
[95.44] Mr Steele Davis: good excuse yeah okay yes I don't like 120 degree yeah weather or sorry 50
[103.9] Mr Steele Davis: degrees Celsius because that's what Chad's used to yeah where things melt
[108.34] Jack: constantly it's good for your packs though unlike this miserable it was
[113.26] Chad N: minus five this morning what's it like there now guys you got to keep your
[125.74] Jack: lipos down your pants and then take them out yeah and then go for it yeah how did
[130.86] Chad N: you guys get started into FPV me well you're the granddaddy yeah mr. 450 so
[141.74] Chad K: well if you're talking to me I got into it back in the days of Trappie and David
[149.22] Chad K: they were the first two that I stumbled across online and David was above the
[154.26] Chad K: clouds and I thought if he can do it I can do it so so I started building
[160.34] Chad K: things to get above the clouds yeah until I realized that was bad well
[165.54] Jack: naughty yeah totally against and didn't you hit yourself once with with your own
[169.38] Chad K: plane as a matter of fact I have
[173.3] Chad K: flying through the swing set that I didn't realize I was standing on the
[178.18] Jack: other side of it have you ever watched that tone you ever seen that I've seen
[182.34] Tony: people were fly into their selves yes I took off once really close to myself and
[187.94] Jack: like just nipped my knuckles on the edge of the tranis I was pretty nasty but
[193.42] Jack: that's about as close as I got any of you hit yourselves have you guys ever
[198.5] Chad K: hit yourselves completely off yeah
[206.74] Chad K: yeah I haven't really hit myself yet but I'm sure it's coming well just
[213.66] Chad K: so everybody knows when I hit myself it was with a mini swift yeah dangerous at
[219.22] Jack: all yeah I see it rear prop as well what's up man you lost on there oh wow
[224.38] Jack: nice picture yep none the canvas so we had a question in from Ed and previously
[235.34] Jack: whilst we sat round he was talking about Final Glides video the other day
[242.94] Jack: of time to yourself and how he wanted to talk about like the mental side of how
[248.5] Jack: like flying makes us feel free and makes us feel better and wondered if you
[252.5] Chad N: wanted to elaborate on that yeah look I think anyone flies these things or gets
[260.38] Chad N: into them because they're fun and and enjoyable and that's a way to relax from
[267.82] Chad N: the stresses of everyday life everyone's got an interesting story and
[274.86] Chad N: everyone's had a hard time in their life and everyone's got depressed at some
[278.38] Chad N: point in time and whenever you get to that situation you need a you need an
[285.04] Chad N: out you need a way to to stop that to turn yourself around and everyone's got
[292.6] Chad N: their own little way of doing it for me it's flying and I I've done that a lot
[299.0] Chad N: of times when I've just been feeling down I just going grab the quad go to
[302.92] Chad N: somewhere I don't even I never really used to press record on the camera I
[307.84] Chad N: just go and fly for myself and and and just use that way to be one with myself
[315.32] Chad N: and forget about my drama is it for me that used to be full-size aircraft but
[320.04] Chad N: more recently it's been mini quads because they're so much more accessible
[324.04] Chad N: and just yeah at one point in time I just decided to press record and and and
[329.56] Chad N: film it and it seemed like a reasonably good flight so I decided to put the put
[336.44] Chad N: it out on YouTube and I actually put it probably about a week or two after I
[339.48] Chad N: actually did it because I was a bit apprehensive about it and I actually got
[343.76] Chad N: a very good response from the video that I put there in the words that I wrote
[348.04] Chad N: and it was very interesting to not only get the positive reactions back from the
[354.68] Chad N: people but to hear similar stories from other people that basically saying that
[359.8] Chad N: they're in the same boat as me that they got the same the same benefit when they
[365.2] Chad N: were down and it I mean I was getting people there were telling me stories
[369.84] Chad N: about loved ones dying and cancer and and and a lot of really serious stuff
[375.48] Chad N: and the thing that I was getting depressed about was sort of paled in
[379.04] Chad N: comparison to what they were what they were suffering and it really did put
[383.32] Chad N: into perspective life and it their responses helped me as just as much as
[391.28] Chad N: what I did helped some of the other guys so I've had a couple of people
[395.44] Chad N: talk to me about depression and things like that and skits I was actually one
[401.0] Chad N: of them in a more recent time and he actually had a video that he said hey
[405.84] Chad N: what do you think should I've sort of done something similar to you but I'm a
[411.16] Chad N: bit apprehensive about putting it out there and he sent me the video and I said
[415.28] Chad N: dude go out there you'll be surprised at the reaction you get from people and I
[418.96] Chad N: think it was just I think it was the tree dancing video that he put out and
[422.44] Chad N: it didn't have to be one of his really popular videos so it's amazing when you
[426.88] Chad N: sort of put your heart on your sleeve and you're very honest about about
[430.84] Chad N: yourself not only in the video but also in the in the comments the description
[435.48] Chad N: section that you can actually get a lot of love back from the community and you
[440.84] Chad N: can in turn help them so yeah Tommy was another person that I spoke to about
[447.32] Chad N: that and and he said what do you think I said go out there and do it be honest
[451.32] Chad N: and like I'm not the only one that suffers different from depression
[455.24] Chad N: there's lots of other people that suffer that so get out there and and look if
[459.64] Chad N: you can help others and then that's great but also if in turn if you can get
[465.32] Chad N: something back from them responding to you then I think that's a really
[468.6] Jack: valuable thing yeah but yeah for me it was like being useful like being able to
[473.24] Jack: repair like people's quads and like help out kind of gave me like a little
[478.56] Jack: bit of a appreciation because everyone's so desperate to like get back up in the
[482.96] Jack: sky especially me sorry man and you know we all share that mutual appreciation
[489.04] Jack: for like you know flying and what it gives to us and like that shared sort of
[494.52] Jack: like experience and even it doesn't end once the batteries over you can kind of
[500.8] Jack: like walk away and talk and the conversations you have on the flying
[503.84] Jack: field and the richness of the friends and the people you meet that you
[509.16] Jack: wouldn't normally meet all with this one thing in common but from each from
[513.68] Jack: vastly different backgrounds like you know Tony here's like a window cleaner
[518.8] Jack: blazing hygienist you know and if you get stuck in a tree man he is your man
[526.12] Jack: you know Tony's got a long pole that comes to rescue you know he used to look
[533.84] Adam: at women through windows but now he does it with his drone no none of that it's
[538.76] Jack: not a pervert we're not all perverts in a recent interview with
[547.92] Jack: schizo quoted as schizo to all those reading and listening just it's just
[553.2] Jack: that something that just blew up in my face it's a kind of bizarre because I'm
[556.36] Jack: a normal guy that likes to fight quads with like anyone else I consider
[560.52] Jack: myself lucky that people like to watch my stuff and I'm thankful for that most
[566.6] Jack: of my fans know that I am a competitive guy and I don't know how long I'll be in
[573.12] Jack: this game if it starts to get too serious when I will be out the game
[577.76] Jack: honestly to do to me it's all about like how it all got started nothing
[584.04] Jack: better than going out with all your friends and putting on some music and
[588.08] Jack: everyone flying around you having a good time and that's why I started and that's
[592.24] Jack: how I want it to be if it starts getting serious when people get mad at dramatic
[596.92] Jack: upset about how many subscribers they got it loses it's fun at that point and
[603.08] Jack: yeah I had sent me that to read out and it's very true I mean
[611.92] Chad N: realistically like I said way I met I always remember what I sort of said in
[617.4] Chad N: one of these interviews that we're just a bunch of nerds flying toys and yeah
[621.48] Chad N: there's a we've got to remember that and not take things too seriously it's I'm
[628.32] Chad N: starting to do that right now where I'm starting to sort of walk away from the
[632.84] Chad N: more serious stuff because I hate the way things the way things change when it
[637.72] Chad N: gets too serious I just want to have fun and just go down to the park and enjoy
[642.68] Chad N: the the the pure the pure side of it of why we all got into it and if you lose
[649.72] Chad N: sight of that you got to ask yourself what are you doing it for and I mean
[652.64] Chad N: yeah there's some people like myself that are that are looking at doing this
[656.36] Chad N: in a more professional manner but I mean I'm doing this because it's fun I've
[662.16] Chad N: left a job that I absolutely loathe and there's no point in me going halfway
[666.8] Chad N: across the world trying to trace a dream if it turns into another job that I
[670.16] Chad N: dislike so it's got to be fun definitely I mean I remember watching
[675.8] Jack: flight tests when they were talking about the knuckle and they went out and
[679.96] Jack: flew and they just had a row of seats and you know each had like their own
[684.44] Jack: different setup on quads with exactly the same format and it was a you know
[691.28] Jack: that's that kind of inspired me and I really wanted a taste of that and that's
[694.92] Jack: that's how I ended up here thanks thanks Chad
[697.24] Chad K: that was really just us trying to capture you know what what we did when
[705.48] Jack: the cameras weren't rolling are you ever under pressure for like the
[711.92] Chad N: upload in the videos and how so the whole process of making what's what do
[721.12] Chad N: we what are we what are we doing putting on tomorrow and then there's 30 seconds
[725.72] Chad N: of silence and we realize hey we've actually got to do something yeah all
[731.2] Chad K: through flight tests like it's not like you just hit a full month of oh
[736.0] Chad K: everything ran perfectly never no especially with David in the basement
[740.72] Chad K: nearly burning your house down well you know it's funny he has that reputation
[744.84] Chad K: but David was probably more organized than any of us Wow yeah it's funny how
[751.6] Chad K: the impression of what it really is versus what it appears to be even being
[758.32] Chad K: ourselves on camera and Chad what what what's your impression versus what you
[764.16] Chad N: expected because you met yeah for the first time yeah it was it was very
[768.16] Chad N: strange because I got into the hobby purely because of flight test Kappa
[775.36] Chad N: Josh David I saw all that on YouTube so I was like the big fan so when I came
[781.76] Chad N: and met all these guys for the first time I had in my in my mind what I
[787.96] Chad N: thought they were going to be is as people and they turned out to be
[791.2] Chad N: completely different and it turns out a lot less organized than what I at first
[795.36] Jack: thought they were going to be yeah I mean like I met Dave and he was he was
[802.6] Jack: just super friendly and nice and I was still in my newbie stage and he just
[806.24] Jack: totally sorted me out but I remember getting help from like do you remember
[810.56] Jack: what is it Judd's 72 27 you know the the video golden yeah that's it yeah I
[819.92] Jack: asked him to be on the show and he's like I don't do any self-promotion and
[823.04] Jack: I was like look we're not promoting you we just want to talk to you because
[826.36] Jack: like you're you're old school and who else like Boris as well with the the
[832.2] Jack: videos when he was flying in the park and stuff you know like through the
[836.48] Jack: little tunnel and I was crazy man like look how far we've come Boris was the
[842.16] Chad N: one that convinced me to start making videos really I can't imagine you like
[846.84] Chad N: having to be persuaded to do that well I've always edited videos and lots of
[852.68] Chad N: stuff and I was intended to but when I first saw some of Boris's early videos
[859.56] Chad N: my mouth just dropped to the floor and I was like looking at it from like a
[863.64] Chad N: videographer point of view well that the the the video and the visuals that I can
[869.24] Chad N: get from this is just going to be insane and that's what got me going okay well
[873.92] Chad N: cool this is like this hole opens up a whole new avenue of what you can
[878.04] Jack: achieve with a video camera now yeah it is mad isn't it how like we fly these
[885.68] Jack: little things that you know we look through but we also you know like the
[890.48] Jack: whole idea of having like two cameras HD and you know the analog with like zero
[895.64] Jack: latency and just like it is super futuristic and it does feel like we're
[901.24] Jack: riding like the edge of the curve but we don't we just feel like we're just
[906.16] Chad N: playing with our mates sorry yeah it's funny I go back and occasionally I'll go
[910.76] Chad N: and look at like there's there's one video of Boris's that I remember was
[913.88] Chad N: the first video that ever watched and I thought that that was like the most
[917.56] Chad N: insane well-tuned locked-in quad that you have ever seen in your life with
[923.0] Chad N: insane stuff and I go back to it now and I look at it and you compare it to the
[927.72] Chad N: advancements that we've had in technology and flight controllers now
[931.08] Chad N: and the thing looks like it's flying like a piece of wet cardboard oh yeah
[935.76] Chad N: but funny but at the time it's like wow this is just so amazing so some it's
[941.64] Chad N: amazing to see how far we've come into yeah I was just gonna say middle Danny's
[945.92] Tony: asked you guys when you come into his forest for a flight oh yeah I just
[950.4] Jack: answered after March yeah no way guys on March 7th we got a international drone
[956.72] Jack: date down here so I don't know whether you guys are interested in coming flying
[959.76] Jack: with us sorry don't get the date wrong yeah sorry don't kill me how do they
[976.48] Chad K: think we will break in the mainstream will it be super flying vids or race
[979.76] Chad K: events or maybe both or we already on that path I don't know what do you guys
[985.4] Chad K: think steel what do you think you think we're gonna hit mainstream or any of
[990.08] Chad K: this well no they just shaking his head in the idea of TV people are starting to
[998.64] Jae: recognize what are done with drones in the videography side of things so I
[1002.08] Jae: think it's gone mainstream to a point where people are spotting them out but
[1004.64] Jae: it hasn't gone mainstream until I think the racing takes a bigger excitement we
[1008.48] Chad N: get a younger generation through I think the people are getting to know what we
[1014.68] Chad N: do now but I think you're right that the competitive side the racing side I
[1018.24] Chad N: think is what's going to get people excited about it because yeah people
[1024.36] Chad N: like videos of landscapes and stuff which is essentially what we're doing
[1029.48] Chad N: but well people in general they'll watch it on YouTube but it's not mainstream
[1036.2] Chad N: yeah and I don't think that we sort of come into the same category but well
[1040.92] Chad K: you're gonna see our attempt at the mainstream stuff here Monday yeah so I
[1045.6] Chad N: think it's interesting like I know Chad's always said that road or ride is
[1051.16] Chad N: looking for like that top gear style of thing and what's interesting about top
[1056.4] Chad N: gear is that there's lots of people that like to watch that shows that probably
[1059.84] Chad N: don't have really much interest in cars so it's more about the personalities and
[1065.6] Chad N: the entertainment and the challenges and and the fun that sort of gets people
[1071.4] Chad N: to watch it there so of course we're on a much much lower budget and just
[1076.32] Chad N: starting up and feeling our way through that but I think it's the people that
[1079.84] Chad N: will that will if we can succeed which will get us there if we can succeed at
[1084.72] Chad N: all I mean same reason why a lot of people like to watch the flight test
[1088.72] Chad N: guys it's it's just as much about the personalities as it is the the products
[1095.24] Chad N: that they're reviewing or what they're doing and I think that's important to
[1098.8] Jack: remember that so yeah you get invested into people's lives and you get to kind
[1102.88] Jack: of know them I've been a podcaster for a while and now and again like maybe two or
[1107.0] Jack: three times this has happened to me where I open my mouth someone goes oh
[1111.08] Jack: it's you and it's very strange and people like recognizing you for your
[1116.0] Jack: voice but I would speak into the previous conversation as well I think we
[1121.0] Jack: shouldn't get some t-shirts done that say I used to fly I flew quads before
[1125.68] Jack: air mode and stuff like that before there was air mode do you think it's the
[1133.4] Adam: racing that's gonna bring it mainstream or do you think it's the fact that for
[1136.6] Adam: the next 10 years everyone's gonna be hearing news reports as people squabble
[1139.6] Adam: about airspace and whether it can be used for deliveries and those drones
[1144.32] Adam: big enough for one person and all the rest of it it's funny it's gonna become
[1149.16] Chad N: it was gonna become big I think it's going to be through the racing and it's
[1154.6] Chad N: gonna be a bit more sort of glitz and glamour but I don't think the technology
[1158.24] Chad N: is here right yet to be able to to do that I mean everyone sort of I think
[1163.52] Chad N: people agree having being able to race more than one quad more than the quads
[1168.24] Chad N: that we've got and in a in a more reliable setting with HD downlink and
[1173.12] Chad N: lots of stuff I think that's the quads also probably need to be bigger as well
[1177.08] Chad N: because I mean they're they're fun and nimble but they're kind of boring to
[1180.68] Chad N: watch from the human eye at the size that we've got so we're waiting on
[1185.72] Chad N: things but I mean whether or not you think those technological advances are
[1189.16] Chad N: possible or not I think that's kind of the the next step and whether or not
[1194.04] Chad K: that'll happen who really knows I have this this theory that it will be
[1200.16] Chad K: mainstream within the next six to twelve months and it's not gonna be the way any
[1204.2] Chad K: of us think that it is because if you look at history it's like that with
[1207.72] Chad K: anything a computer they thought was gonna be mainstream because it could do
[1211.04] Chad K: spreadsheets but that's not what we used it for you know what made it popular was
[1217.44] Chad K: honestly the billboards or what do they call them you know the orbs you know
[1222.92] Chad K: communicating with each other yeah so I think what's gonna make all of this
[1227.2] Chad N: mainstream is having thought of yet yeah you're actually hearing this is what
[1232.74] Chad N: like our last six right-or-right business meetings have been with dad
[1237.18] Chad N: just sort of like spewing out random stuff like that that doesn't have the
[1241.46] Chad N: answer and we we all feel very insightful
[1246.18] Adam: yeah we have a guy that our office and he's paid a lot more than the rest of us
[1252.3] Chad N: you're seeing where the problem in his life in life is yeah and what's getting
[1258.02] Jack: me is like some people flying very dangerously you know I'm not I'm not
[1261.94] Jack: pointing the finger and trappy because we all love trappy but you know the
[1266.54] Jack: people but like you know people are taking risks and really pushing it like
[1275.94] Jack: we can all appreciate it but those hit videos get publicity for the bad reasons
[1280.06] Jack: and that kind of sucks and like one day I will build Tony a quad with a rocket
[1284.58] Jack: strapped to the back of it and I just hope we don't get into that much
[1287.26] Chad K: trouble there's episodes a flight test that if we release them today would be
[1297.58] Chad K: horribly offensive to people I mean I I was even the pilot that piloted a guided
[1303.5] Chad K: bomb to a little playset of army men oh no and that's an episode release it
[1309.7] Jack: because I and David sent me the link for the what was it the y6 trying to
[1317.14] Jack: lift something ridiculous man and he's like so dangerous and it was like hidden
[1321.9] Jack: and oh man I was like what oh yeah there's so many things that we did but
[1327.18] Chad K: back then people are like oh these guys are playing with flying thing flying
[1331.34] Chad K: toys you know and nobody really paid attention to it but if you were to
[1335.34] Chad K: re-release those today people will be all up in arms and what is dangerous I
[1341.18] Chad N: think is sort of down to personal perception as well right I mean I'm sure
[1347.02] Chad N: there's a lot of people that see people like myself and steel diving down
[1351.18] Chad N: buildings and going hey that's dangerous I look at it and I go well okay it you're
[1357.14] Chad N: balancing out the risk the risk of the situation versus your experience and I
[1362.94] Chad N: don't really have a problem with it worst case scenario you've got a 500
[1366.7] Chad N: gram quad that falls then that there's no one underneath so you might damage
[1370.5] Chad N: some property worst case but I mean yeah it's it really depends I mean look okay
[1375.38] Chad N: everyone can agree you go and get your your quadcopter and you get your quadcopter
[1383.1] Chad N: in front of a Boeing 747 trying to land at an airport everyone can agree that's
[1386.82] Chad N: dangerous but I mean yeah or very creative if you're a terrorist yeah yeah
[1393.26] Chad N: exactly yeah but I mean look I think there's there's various levels of
[1399.3] Chad N: personal opinion as to what they class as dangerous and yeah that one looks
[1403.74] Jack: real yeah still why aren't you flying the power cube what um what's this you
[1411.62] Jack: know sp3 and Dominic's put a pair of balls on his new flight controller has
[1417.14] Jack: that got anything to do with you or did one of you teabag each other or something
[1421.26] Mr Steele Davis: is it an in-joke I mean I think like everything in this hobby things have
[1425.06] Mr Steele Davis: been pushed so where they're out of date now like a lot of things come out six
[1429.62] Mr Steele Davis: months later than they were originally supposed to or be talked about so yeah a
[1434.3] Mr Steele Davis: lot of that stuff is not even relevant anymore like I mean I just can't stand
[1439.02] Mr Steele Davis: B.L. Heli so when I heard that the power cube like I was a pretty big part in
[1445.42] Mr Steele Davis: making the power cube fly well and telling Trappy and the designers Chris
[1450.3] Mr Steele Davis: Dunkel and Remo the guys at TVS trying to help them make that thing fly like a
[1456.22] Mr Steele Davis: kiss essentially is because that was my benchmark and I wanted something that
[1459.74] Mr Steele Davis: was either better or equally as good for TVS and they were originally trying to
[1465.38] Mr Steele Davis: do it with Simon K and I was kind of against that because of my previous
[1470.3] Mr Steele Davis: experience with Simon K I after about four prototypes of things not going
[1476.18] Mr Steele Davis: right I'd said look I'm not getting paid to do this I love you guys but I'm not
[1480.3] Mr Steele Davis: gonna continue to beta test this because every time I put it on a quad
[1484.02] Mr Steele Davis: something happens and this was like six months ago so I gave up on beta testing
[1488.78] Mr Steele Davis: the power cube and then some other guys took it over and eventually somehow the
[1493.34] Mr Steele Davis: the idea to go B.L. Heli was brought up and as soon as that was mentioned I
[1499.78] Mr Steele Davis: completely lost interest because I just I just can't stand B.L. Heli if I have to
[1504.74] Mr Steele Davis: program my ESCs I mean honestly I don't even know how to program ESCs and 99% of
[1511.7] Mr Steele Davis: the world can't even tune PIDs so why why do you think the rest of the world
[1516.14] Mr Steele Davis: needs to be able to tune their ESC like who really cares about that just make it
[1520.54] Mr Steele Davis: simple for people and then make the PID situation a little bit less than 10 tabs
[1525.26] Mr Steele Davis: with 30,000 CLI commands that's the problem I have with a lot of this stuff
[1530.62] Jack: the open source stuff anyways yeah and two chips into boot loaders yeah great fun
[1537.3] Mr Steele Davis: yeah if I need some stupid STML bullshit I get a pretty pissed off when we talk
[1543.54] Mr Steele Davis: about CLI and and going in there and putting weird little chips and flashing
[1549.06] Chad N: tools. I think what a lot of people don't see with a lot of these test
[1556.7] Chad N: pilots is the amount of effort that they've gone into testing a product and
[1562.3] Chad N: you basically you'll spend two months of your life testing a product where you're
[1566.66] Chad N: not actually flying you're just testing something so you're not actually going
[1569.9] Chad N: out and having fun and like I know I went through over two thousand dollars
[1574.38] Chad N: worth of broken equipment testing a lot of early beta flight stuff with issues
[1580.4] Chad N: that I had and eventually you get to a point where you go actually I can't I
[1584.7] Chad N: can't keep on doing this because I'm not getting paid for it I'm doing this on my
[1588.02] Chad N: own weekend and it's costing me a lot of money and I'm not actually I'm not

[1624.62] Chad N: simply that the when Tom cop ported the multi-weave firmware over to the to
[1635.66] Chad N: base flight he changed a lot of things in terms of
[1639.78] Chad N: D term noise filters on so stuff and they ended up running the the the the
[1645.58] Chad N: controller ran very very noisy specifically things like floating point
[1649.94] Chad N: math like in in Lux float when you went over to that it ran extremely noisy and
[1654.26] Chad N: because the kiss 18 amp can could switch so fast it it was basically it's kind of
[1659.7] Chad N: like a racing engine without a governor in it yeah if you want treat bad it'll
[1663.14] Chad N: blow itself up and it's very interesting I spent a lot of time trying to sort
[1668.3] Chad N: the issues trying to find out what that problem was and working with Felix at
[1672.14] Chad N: flight we know and he was totally stumped because he couldn't get
[1676.06] Chad N: anything to actually do that and none of the people around him could actually get
[1680.62] Chad N: any of them to blow it up we found out recent later on that it was because that
[1684.3] Chad N: they were using Felix's nano we which is uses the multi-weave firmware and the
[1690.3] Chad N: people that were blowing it up with it with a clean flight people and so very
[1693.98] Chad K: interesting that's a good question so if you use an 18 amp ESC kiss ESC with the
[1700.22] Chad K: yes the kiss flight controller is there any chance it'll catch fire that's a
[1705.06] Chad N: very good question is something I actually want to test out I haven't
[1708.78] Chad N: actually tested it out and I'd be very interested to test it out sure it's less
[1712.46] Mr Steele Davis: likely because the kiss flight controller doesn't require as high of a
[1715.72] Mr Steele Davis: PID number which is arbitrary but it doesn't actually require you to run the

[1730.54] Mr Steele Davis: this crazy shit and they decided to choose the best and during this entire
[1736.18] Mr Steele Davis: time John and I which John was kind of like getting into stuff and this is
[1741.5] Mr Steele Davis: skit so like I always stayed PID one and John tried all the different flight
[1746.46] Mr Steele Davis: controllers I tried them too I mean I didn't really feel any difference but
[1750.22] Mr Steele Davis: PID one always felt like really natural to me so I always stick with it and
[1755.94] Mr Steele Davis: eventually like after about two months of people like I guess trying to just
[1762.1] Mr Steele Davis: ooze information about lux float online somehow Boris went back to PID one and
[1768.18] Mr Steele Davis: started working on PID one with beta flight and up until literally 2.16 which
[1774.46] Mr Steele Davis: is like a revised version of air mode so very recently I hated to go I did not
[1780.38] Mr Steele Davis: want to try beta flight I was on 1.9 clean flight and unfortunately I didn't
[1786.66] Mr Steele Davis: have any s-bus problems because if you don't run telemetry on 1.9 if you and
[1790.74] Mr Steele Davis: with nothing else it won't catch on fire like that forest right there or fall out
[1797.14] Mr Steele Davis: of the sky I mean Chad was having a lot of clean flight or base flight any kind
[1801.14] Mr Steele Davis: of whatever a source code from base flight issue was there's some kind of
[1806.42] Mr Steele Davis: bug where the quad would fall out of the sky due to just in some kind of weird
[1811.9] Mr Steele Davis: telemetry backup where one of the channels would get a bit of information
[1815.62] Mr Steele Davis: stuck and then it would just keep building and then eventually cause the
[1818.18] Mr Steele Davis: quad to fall out of the sky very similar to that and then yeah I mean I just I
[1825.14] Mr Steele Davis: don't know I refuse to update my aircraft every single week and when
[1830.62] Mr Steele Davis: people are like oh yeah beta flight two point nine seven three two sevens out
[1834.38] Mr Steele Davis: and it's better than six point six two one because this in all reality what
[1840.46] Mr Steele Davis: beta flight is doing for the community I think is making the quad fly better with
[1844.7] Mr Steele Davis: stock settings if you're tweaking stuff I mean and that's what you should be
[1849.74] Mr Steele Davis: able to do you should be able to put something onto a quad and have it fly
[1853.46] Mr Steele Davis: well with stock PIDs and in all reality that is what everyone wants but at the
[1860.12] Mr Steele Davis: end of the day can you go out and buy a track car that is gonna put down the
[1864.8] Mr Steele Davis: fastest time in the world from the factory no you're gonna have to be able
[1868.04] Mr Steele Davis: to go and tweak it and it's tweaked every single day regardless of how you
[1872.92] Mr Steele Davis: feel but the temperature is gonna change what kind of tire pressure you're gonna
[1875.96] Mr Steele Davis: put in there the temperatures are gonna change what kind of suspension you're
[1878.64] Mr Steele Davis: gonna run that day or what how your dampen settings are working so if you
[1882.72] Mr Steele Davis: want an aircraft that flies at the literal ragged edge you have to be ready
[1887.36] Mr Steele Davis: to tweak every single day with a consistent setup that you know how it
[1891.04] Mr Steele Davis: works if you're running a new aircraft with a new firmware every single day
[1894.8] Mr Steele Davis: it's like all right well now the D term isn't as it doesn't have as much weight
[1900.24] Mr Steele Davis: as it did this last version and air mode now has less PID attenuation down low so

[2076.6] Chad N: trying it out in real life I'm certainly going the other way like I I don't

[2092.12] Chad N: getting the more highly tuned you get the more temperamental the the object
[2098.2] Chad N: becomes and there's a reason why we don't drive race cars around on the roads

[2500.06] Chad N: turn the filters off nearly as much as what you'd want to so it basically gets
[2505.06] Chad N: it gets the whole thing moves and vibrates and oscillates so it all comes
[2510.82] Chad N: down to stiffness lightness and durability so by all means if you can
[2515.06] Chad N: find a a material that will cover those solutions better and look better than go

[3083.78] Chad N: No seriously those those ESCs really they're sort of the evolution of the whole the whole KISS ESC design and for what we do as mini quad pilots I think they're the perfect size and amp rating for like a 4s 250 size quad and yeah I'd be
[3105.82] Chad N: interesting to see what what fearless can come out with that'll be better than that
[3109.46] Chad N: but I think we're sort of plateauing on that area and of course KISS FC that
[3113.5] Chad N: no and everyone's probably fully aware myself and Steel absolutely love the the
[3117.22] Chad N: KISS FC for the way that the way that you can tune the quad the way that it's
[3122.02] Chad N: locked in and it's ease of use there's still things I'm working on with Felix
[3127.86] Chad N: but it yeah I'm really impressed with that and of course I'm going around I'm
[3134.06] Chad N: playing around with different types of motors I'm sure anyone who's on Facebook
[3139.18] Chad N: will be aware that I've I've been testing out a hype of different brands
[3142.5] Chad N: of motors and and this week now that I've got some time in the in the Kappa
[3146.42] Chad N: household I'm gonna be doing my findings on all the different motors that I've
[3151.06] Chad N: been testing but what I'm finding out which is is really good news is that
[3155.46] Chad N: we've got quite a large selection of good quality motors to choose from not
[3160.46] Chad N: that long ago it was basically cobra or nothing and now we've got a good
[3164.7] Chad N: selection that they all have slightly different positives and negatives so you
[3168.1] Chad N: can choose one that that will suit you you best but I'll talk more about that
[3172.42] Chad N: when I release my video and yeah that that's I mean I'm I'm a big mad keen
[3178.26] Chad N: five-inch alien frame fan I use lots of different frames and I keep on coming
[3182.58] Chad N: back to that one so that's sort of me right there what I would like to see some
[3188.3] Chad N: improvements is in terms of the transmitter side of things I really love
[3193.18] Chad N: the FR sky X4R the protocol the radio link the telemetry the and the the
[3202.62] Chad N: durability of that protocol in terms of range and and not fail-saving and how it
[3209.18] Chad N: does all that stuff what I don't like is the quality of the radios like the
[3213.18] Chad N: Terenas yeah yeah it's just it's a very very cheap radio and in my in my
[3220.22] Chad N: previous life flying f3b gliders I'm used to having good quality radios with
[3224.74] Chad N: nice gimbals nice switches and I appreciate that and I would definitely
[3228.46] Chad N: buy a better quality radio if there was one out there but it's problem there's
[3233.06] Chad N: like you'd either got FrSky which has got the cheap TX or you've got you've
[3237.14] Chad N: got Futaba which has got the nice radio but they've got big receivers that are
[3241.22] Jack: also expensive and then adjusting your endpoints on on spectrum yeah yeah I mean
[3252.3] Chad N: there's no one radio that seems to have it all and the the company that gets the
[3257.06] Chad N: head around that first I think is going to have a really good market I mean I'm
[3262.02] Chad N: not trying to knock the Terenas for what it is it's a very very good radio and it
[3266.5] Chad N: certainly has a place but what we don't have is a mid-range radio somewhere
[3271.42] Chad N: between say the top of the range JR stuff and the and the Terenas of course
[3276.82] Chad N: the the Horace is coming out and I'm interested to see what that's like but it
[3280.66] Chad N: I mean I don't understand why do they have to make these things look like
[3284.18] Chad N: alien spacecraft I just want a normal radio with with decent switches and
[3289.34] Chad N: gimbals in it but I mean I'll just use something that feels nice in my hands I
[3292.78] Chad N: don't really care what it looks like it's just got to feel nice and have nice
[3295.82] Chad N: gimbals and I'm sure in a bit of time we'll have that I'm certainly talking
[3299.66] Chad N: to at least one radio company about getting that achieving that and we'll

[3334.66] Mr Steele Davis: helicopter for my grandmother and then oh two weeks later I bought a line 450
[3339.86] Mr Steele Davis: collective pitch heli and then like a month later I bought a gowie x5 and
[3343.3] Mr Steele Davis: learned to fly like collective pitch helis and then thought quads were stupid
[3347.74] Mr Steele Davis: because they just hovered in place this was like April of 2014 and then in May
[3355.06] Mr Steele Davis: I stumbled across a trappy video and and then I got excited on FPV and then found
[3361.1] Mr Steele Davis: flight test and started watching tricopters and I was super psyched on
[3365.54] Mr Steele Davis: getting a tricopter but ended up getting a Discovery Pro as my first aircraft oh
[3374.38] Mr Steele Davis: and then like a couple like probably a week after that I called get FPV and
[3379.54] Mr Steele Davis: like blew this guy named Sean he's a one of the guys that works there are the
[3385.06] Mr Steele Davis: coolest dudes that works at get FPV and he told me everything he knows and then
[3390.18] Mr Steele Davis: I bought a blackout mini H and I had that up until drone nationals the same exact
[3395.3] Jack: aircraft well yeah cuz I hear that I hear the blackout was amazing and I did
[3401.1] Jack: want one at one point but then rumors started going round skit so talks about
[3406.22] Mr Steele Davis: it and no one really knows it doesn't know anything about blackout he never
[3409.74] Jack: even had one no about the rumors and stuff okay yeah well down he used to
[3416.02] Chad N: fly yeah Danny Boris I did the the blackout RC groups forum was actually
[3424.02] Chad N: where I first met steel mmm yeah out to middle Danny from tonestar yeah that's
[3434.06] Jack: the point I get Danny get getting get on Skype man I know your English isn't that
[3440.74] Jack: good but it's fine you can just be like I don't ski on Skype Danny and say hello

[3449.34] Chad N: from someone that was just asking me random questions earlier on about many
[3453.66] Chad N: quads and he said I can pick up your bags for you and this is a guy called
[3459.38] Chad N: Jameson who lived in Las Vegas so he was kind enough at like at around midnight
[3466.06] Chad N: during a workweek to go and pick up the bags and look after him for us and we
[3470.5] Chad N: picked him up the next day when we when we flew in and and he'd only been been
[3474.5] Chad N: flying for about a month or so at this point in time so he was not sort of
[3479.02] Chad N: anyone well known or a fantastic pilot but we ended up hanging out for the
[3483.62] Chad N: entire week and becoming really good friends so you you meet so many cool
[3488.62] Chad N: people in random places and it's it's kind of humbling for me to feel like I
[3493.98] Chad N: can almost go to any any city in the US and someone's gonna say hey come and
[3498.66] Chad N: stay at my place and so yeah I mean we're all just a bunch of hobbyists
[3505.02] Chad N: having a bit of fun and I feel like I've struck up a friendship at least
[3510.82] Chad N: being an online friendship with so many people out there that it's hard to
[3514.82] Chad N: narrow it down to a few hey Danny how you doing
[3517.3] Chad N: you know what's the best time of year for us to go and visit your your forest

[3779.9] Chad N: cool there's actually a couple of manufacturers doing that what I'm seeing
[3784.66] Chad N: is what we've got now shrunk down to an even smaller size which is very very
[3790.26] Chad N: interesting so yeah I think in my mind what we've got in terms of flight
[3795.22] Chad N: controller software hardware and ESCs software and hardware we're kind of
[3800.86] Chad N: plateauing so we're getting gains but it's the the gains are getting less and
[3806.14] Chad N: less and less for the work that's being put into them but I think what we're
[3811.06] Chad N: what we're what I'm seeing now is getting that same hardware but shrinking
[3816.54] Chad N: it down to a smaller more manageable size so we've got those pure X quad
[3822.18] Chad N: races which are becoming very popular for racing and their biggest problem is
[3827.38] Chad N: they have very limited real estate for putting the electronics in telemetry
[3831.86] Chad N: have we lost these guys hello guys mum dad yeah just basically reducing the
[3839.9] Chad N: actual size of the components and the number of components so you can fit it
[3843.62] Chad N: into a smaller form factor that's really the the main thing that I see
[3849.94] Chad N: realistically yeah the ESCs and the flight controllers that we're using we're
[3857.42] Chad N: we're plateauing on that there's no real major change with regards to frame
[3864.22] Chad N: design I mean let's face it we've got we've got four arms and we've got some
[3868.58] Chad N: electronics in the middle and it's it's all about making it light but strong and
[3873.74] Chad N: keeping the weight centralized so that you know you're not spreading the load
[3878.34] Chad N: out on the pitch or roll axis which is where we're going with the the X quads
[3884.7] Chad N: yeah I think the the next big leap we're probably going to seize in terms
[3890.66] Chad N: of VTXs and batteries because right now that's where the weak link is in what
[3898.94] Chad N: we've got particularly in the batteries we need to have that next big breakthrough
[3902.46] Chad N: in battery technology and how far away that is I don't know but I'm sure
[3907.46] Chad N: something will come along and blow our socks off like any of the old-school
[3911.18] Chad N: pilots that are around here will know what I'm talking about when lithium
[3914.66] Chad N: polymer battery first came on the market when we before that we were using
[3918.14] Chad N: nycads and nickel metal hydrides and lipos just they they they made the the
[3925.02] Chad N: indoor flying scene a an actual thing before it wasn't that and and it
[3930.5] Chad N: totally made a whole new sport happen and then in turn as the battery
[3937.02] Chad N: technology matured more it also changed the outdoor scene and now we're seeing
[3944.1] Chad N: almost more electric stuff than we are petrol stuff so have you guys tried any
[3948.9] Chad N: of the graphene batteries yet well I had in the past already tested some
[3954.9] Chad N: graphene batteries but I didn't know they were graphene batteries I had sent
[3959.18] Chad N: some batteries and they were they were good I I'm not a hundred percent sure
[3964.62] Chad N: they were graphene batteries because hobby King did send me out some batteries
[3967.66] Chad N: and labeled say here test these with once your feedback I believe they were
[3973.18] Chad N: the graphene batteries now that I was testing they were nice they were
[3977.06] Chad N: certainly not blowing my socks off I haven't tried the production graphene
[3980.74] Chad N: batteries but I do want to get them I'm looking at them and going yeah I'm sort
[3986.42] Chad N: of like yeah the the experts telling me there's no such thing as what as a
[3992.14] Chad N: graphene battery at this stage so I'm not an expert in that area but I like to
[3998.14] Chad N: take anything that any sort of big industry player like that says with a
[4002.7] Chad N: big grain of salt until it can be confirmed or denied so I do want to get
[4008.18] Chad N: some batteries and test them we might do that through road or riot the one thing
[4012.26] Chad N: that I'm noticing is that these graphene batteries seem to be noticeably heavier
[4017.82] Chad N: than some of the competition batteries they're like 20 grams heavier so are
[4023.54] Chad N: these batteries in fact 1500 milliamp batteries that are that are that are
[4028.02] Chad N: practice 1300s and of course if you've got a bigger capacity battery of course
[4032.42] Chad N: it's gonna handle voltage sag a little bit better so what I would like to do is
[4037.82] Chad N: get a company a competitor's battery that weighs the same or very similar to
[4042.82] Chad N: the graphene battery that's probably going to be like a 1500 milliamp pack
[4046.86] Chad N: and compare them that way because to me all in my opinion I've tried heaps of
[4053.38] Chad N: different batteries of the top quality batteries they all fly pretty much the
[4058.18] Chad N: same the difference between the battery manufacturers really is how much they
[4063.1] Chad N: weigh and how many cycles you get out of them before they start causing your
[4066.14] Chad N: drums so I'd like to a graphene battery with a competitive about
[4074.02] Chad N: competitors battery that weighs the same so that would be a competitor's 1500
[4078.18] Chad N: milliamp our pack which I'd be very keen to test out yeah I'd want to like just
[4085.41] Jack: have a little car park basher and you know 1806 and everything kind of like
[4090.53] Jack: cobbled together out of scrap parts and that oh that kind of thing well yeah we
[4094.97] Chad N: can do that anyone who's been flying for long enough has got a big pile of parts
[4098.53] Chad N: you got four different motors with four different props
[4104.05] Chad N: that's why I was thinking like you know like a six inch on one side six by four
[4109.25] Chad N: point five and you'll have a five by four point three on another one and then
[4112.17] Chad N: you'll have a five by four point five bull nose on another one and then a five
[4116.01] Chad N: by four point five no non bull nose on one you'll have an 1806 you'll have a
[4119.45] Chad N: 2208 you'll have a 2204 and you'll have a 2205 all different KVs that would be
