[59.22] Chris: uh no i actually i kind of like it but i have to be honest you know
[63.62] Chris: every time we get a guest on no matter if it's anybody from horizon or stewart from hobby care
[69.86] Chris: or whoever like they come on they're like i'm so nervous like i don't i don't want and i'm like
[75.62] Chris: ah it's no big deal you know we're just gonna chit chat and whatever and then i was okay till
[80.34] Chris: like a few minutes before and then i started getting nervous and i'm like why am i nervous
[84.34] Chris: you know so i don't know it's just different but i i think it's uh i think it'll be good
[90.9] Frank: i think it's the same you know when you're flying as well it's like me coming me personally anyway
[96.66] Frank: that is my new uh 160 when i was flying it around at the weekend perfectly fine and then
[104.02] Frank: there was a meet-up uh in middle of london one evening and so i took all my stuff into work
[110.82] Frank: and you know showing it around i was like oh you know go hover it in the meeting room like
[118.34] Frank: yeah sure you know i've been flying it around in my hovering it in my room fine i'm sure it can
[123.06] Frank: hover it in this massive meeting room and just doing it and my hands just shaking uh i was fine
[129.86] Frank: up until like running it up and then completely out the window not actually out the window just
[134.58] Frank: my hands shaking and my nerves out the window but yeah it's it's kind of a bit weird that you don't
[139.54] Frank: think you can go out the window didn't hit war no i managed to crash it into a chair that was all
[144.98] Jack: that was all it was it's fine i'm surprised you didn't stick instantly to the ceiling you know
[149.94] Jack: that's usually indoor flying like the little hubsons or nano qx's you fly them and then you
[155.62] Jack: just catch wind of the ceiling and it just sticks and then scores its way across the roof
[162.26] Adam Juniper: i've just got back from the nec and jack you'll be interested especially um there were dji were
[168.98] Adam Juniper: there selling drones at a photography show unique for their selling um or promoting their aircraft
[176.02] Adam Juniper: yeah but then the micro the micro drone people were there and they weren't using any sort of
[180.98] Adam Juniper: safety netting or anything they were just flying happily right out of their own stand up into the
[185.54] Adam Juniper: middle you know up above everyone else's and then uh coming back down was that the micro drone
[191.62] Frank: people yeah they just did not give a shit yeah they were doing they were doing the same at the
[196.98] Frank: 3d print show for the past couple of years as well and they were also doing it out over the
[201.54] Frank: tems and everywhere that's typical really middle of london they're just out there over there that
[208.02] Frank: was pretty much what guaranteed that i bought uh my hubson i was like i have to get something like
[214.82] Frank: that immediately on amazon bought it there and then the guy the guy told me that that uh yeah

[273.78] Chris: tricopter so you might get a bunch of questions about that or one we might be talking about the
[278.42] Chris: beaver or something and then i'll get a ton of emails and questions about that so i think it
[282.9] Chris: just depends what we we talk about that week if we don't talk about anything in particular then
[287.62] Jack: i won't get any emails that's generally the way it goes i was praying you were gonna say radiant
[293.14] Jack: because that's all i hear you guys go on about is like the radian oh yeah yeah i mean we do we do uh
[300.34] Chris: we push out quite a bit because we just love that airplane we haven't found really anything to to
[305.62] Chris: beat it as far as just ease of flight uh thermal flying cost-wise i mean it's just tough to beat
[312.74] Frank: that's still one of our favorites oh man yeah i've been looking for one but they they all seem to be
[318.1] Frank: the radium pro now they didn't seem to sell it as a normal radian yeah the the regular radians are
[324.34] Chris: hard to find especially used um and usually i don't know if you've heard i ran about the radium
[329.94] Jack: pro but yeah i know all day long uh used for sale hmm lame how you find in the mini tricopter
[339.06] Jack: have you i suppose you haven't been out that much we're there i'll tell you what i have been flying
[343.78] Chris: the daylights out of that thing yes it is unbelievable like i knew it would be good
[350.98] Chris: because you know i talked to david on a weekly basis um but you know he made a surprise visit
[357.38] Chris: over here for um a couple weeks and i had it and i was almost had it built and ready to go
[363.46] Chris: i'm i'm happy he was here because we literally went down in chad's basement one evening
[368.5] Chris: he plugged it in set it all up and we're actually running some beta firmware um so it's
[374.02] Chris: not even out yet we got it all loaded up and i'm telling you this is the best flying tricopter
[380.02] Chris: i've ever flown it's unreal and i've put it in some hands of like wane and and mike and those
[385.3] Chris: guys and the second wane i mean got like two feet off the ground and and made a pass you could just
[391.14] Chris: see his face light up he's like this thing is unbelievable so he's got one coming uh so we're
[397.46] Chris: going to be probably in the next two three weeks we're going to be doing some pretty good testing
[402.02] Chris: and comparing and then we're going to get david on the line and really dive into it and do a pretty
[407.54] Chris: in-depth review i would have loved i bet jack's drilling right now yeah you know do you know one
[413.22] Jack: thing i wish is that you know wrote a riot released a video where they did the little you know
[419.54] Jack: affordable quads and david set a time i would have loved to have seen david set a time with the
[424.9] Jack: tricopter because um that that would have been interesting to see the vast difference between the
[430.1] Frank: two of them but um they're obviously going for the the top gear star and a reasonably priced car
[437.14] Frank: thing aren't they so presumably that frame is going to be it's common across everyone they have
[441.22] Chris: on and going around the course yeah the the cool thing is is you know there are some tricopters
[447.62] Chris: out there but you know david's got a very unique one and he's just got it he spent so many years
[454.98] Chris: just refining and refining and now you know obviously you guys probably know he flew off the
[459.78] Chris: the kk2 board forever and that was you know his setup and and finally he he converted over to the
[465.94] Chris: nays 32 and they're constantly writing new code and updating the nays 32 to where even when i
[472.26] Chris: talked to him um last week they're already on another like beta version even for the one i
[478.66] Chris: just got like two weeks ago they're already in the process of making one he says it's even better
[484.1] Chris: so with today's technology you know the the look of the tricopter the way it flies it's just
[490.34] Chris: different you know for me i've said it before there's nine million different quadcopters out
[495.86] Chris: there frames whatever people you know i get questions all the time you know what frame
[499.86] Chris: should i get what motor should i get and blah blah on and on and on well here's something
[503.3] Chris: it's just different it flies different looks different anybody that sees it goes like oh
[507.94] Chris: wow that thing's it's cool it's different looking you know so that's one thing i like about the
[512.58] Jack: tricopter and i think david's got going for him yeah i mean um i i own a tricopter mini as well
[520.5] Jack: so and i'm a massive fan of it and i'm surprised how far my camera isn't tilted and how quick that
[529.14] Jack: thing is i'm not using i'm not even using his recommended package i'm still using the sn20 scs
[537.38] Jack: i'm guessing you've got the little bees on if it's new and but i'm running cobra 2206s rather than
[545.14] Jack: the 2208 dys oh okay and it's just an animal like and um i'm loving the little uh tricopter uh
[556.74] Jack: rear setup tool because i first flew triflite version um 2.0 and you didn't need the tricopter
[565.38] Jack: setup tool moved on to the uh number three and then you needed it and i didn't know about it
[571.78] Jack: so it flew like an absolute bit of garbage it just spanned around in a circle you'd fly forward
[578.74] Jack: it would just you like just slowly curve towards the to the um to the right and it was just a
[585.54] Jack: nightmare and uh like i feel like i'm the only tricopter owner in in like the the south really
[592.82] Jack: the mini tricopter owner i know there's got to be some more but you know um i am i am a massive fan
[598.98] Jack: of it Niko not still have his big tricopter he does but he's had nothing but problems with it
[604.34] Jack: it was we moved since we've put it on a nays it has just been a right little cow it just are you
[612.18] Jack: running triflite on that or yeah we are now um i originally it's meant to have its own like
[619.46] Jack: clean flight version that you could pre-flash pre-flash that it didn't like that at all and
[625.78] Jack: then moved on to triflite set up the um rear tail servo that seemed to be fine hovered it in my
[632.66] Jack: living room that seems to be fine touch wood and um when we did do it the first time we went out
[639.14] Jack: to the field and the uh the motor on the left uh motor three i think it is um started chugging
[649.94] Jack: instantly got red hot and uh it slammed to the ground broke its camera tray and that's the only
[656.1] Jack: old that's the only problem with the the original tricopters that you know of davids they all rely
[662.66] Jack: on that camera plate and i i wanted to like hassle chris and see what he thought because
[667.7] Jack: like you know the electro hub and all that you know like those camera plates i've never
[673.06] Jack: i've never had any luck with them you know you put the battery to them and you have the
[677.54] Jack: the camera there and it's all good for the weight but they break so easily yeah if you get yeah any
[684.74] Chris: kind of contact with the with the ground they usually break or you bend the wires or or what
[689.62] Chris: have you um i actually uh with the new mini i haven't uh now it'll carry a full gopro no problem
[697.78] Chris: and it actually sticks right on the top plate i haven't run a gopro but it's also set up for a
[703.54] Chris: like a run cam 2 or a mobius and it's kind of well protected so i think i'm just going to stick with
[709.54] Chris: that um but i was going to tell you i don't know how much i can say maybe maybe it's already out
[714.9] Chris: or maybe it isn't i don't know but um the beta version i am running uh it's there's absolutely
[722.82] Chris: like you have he's got a new setup a new uh tail tune setup that actually you can tune it right
[729.62] Chris: from the radio now and there's absolutely no tail drift now whatsoever the thing is rock solid like
[736.9] Chris: i really couldn't believe how i would put this up against any kind of uh quadcopter whatsoever as far
[743.06] Chris: as um stability and and you know being uh like rock solid through the turns and everything no
[749.94] Chris: drift nothing it's unbelievable how well he's got this thing now so hopefully soon i would imagine
[755.86] Chris: that beta version that i have now should be out soon i think yeah triflite fives out at the moment
[763.3] Jack: i never had any luck with the tail tune did he do it with the musa sticks in a certain way
[768.66] Jack: flicks the switch it starts beeping when it finishes beeping you land set the sticks that's
[774.26] Jack: already out i do it i flick the switch on it beeps then stops beeping and that's it um i i
[783.06] Chris: do know um i'd have to double check but like after it stops beeping i know too you got to set them
[790.34] Chris: sticks a certain way in order for it to save if you don't do that it will not save the tail tune
[796.18] Jack: programming that you just did but yeah i mean i'm literally hovering in the air it beeps it does its
[801.22] Jack: initial startup beep um like i think you do it from the ground you take off it beeps and then
[808.34] Jack: it stops beeping complete silence and then you land and then you bring the two sticks out as if
[813.62] Jack: you're gonna disarm a yes a phantom yep yeah and um that's how you save it but yeah i fly and it
[823.86] Jack: just stops beeping there's no like beep beep nothing just stops so yeah so i don't know if
[830.18] Jack: you see him ask him about it okay you know like jack's a dum dum honestly though if you got any
[837.38] Chris: problems or whatever just shoot him an email i mean he's he's seen every possible thing that
[843.38] Chris: could go wrong or doesn't work or whatever and he'll probably just shoot you an email right back
[848.42] Chris: the next day or maybe two days if he's if he's kind of busy if you know and fix the problem or
[854.9] Chris: let you know what's going on with it he's really good about that yeah i know how busy he is like
[860.18] Jack: i mean i um you know i sent him the the david uh you know the arcy explorer screen printed t-shirt
[868.26] Jack: and um like i met him at festival fly really lovely such such a nice guy and i was a complete
[874.5] Jack: noob and he just totally sorted me out and um i've got i've got him on skype and everything but
[881.62] Jack: i know how busy he is like uh you know i've like chatted to you know i've sent an email and like
[887.7] Jack: joanna his wife's like answered me and i'm just like i'll figure it out i'm sure i'll run into
[893.78] Jack: him sooner or later you know i'd be meaning to get him on the show he says yeah sure but he's just
[899.06] Jack: so busy you know like the the next thing you hear he's over there like surprising you guys so
[904.66] Jack: yeah i know i know i just i know he's like swamped with orders trying to find manufacturers of arms
[910.5] Jack: and stuff and i think you know what tell tune not beeping i can get over it you know flies well
[917.46] Chris: enough yeah but honestly uh just shoot him an email though let him know what's going on whatever
[922.5] Chris: and i'm i'm almost guaranteed he'll get back to you pretty quick and and work out any bugs you
[927.46] Chris: have with it says i you know once you really get that thing flying good i think you'll really
[932.66] Chris: enjoy it he's still running it on 3s so he moved on no i'll tell you what i made the mistake we
[938.82] Chris: talked about it and i didn't really have any good four cells to run on and i said ah you know i just
[943.22] Chris: want to play around the yard a little bit and it's it's pretty tight and full of trees and i said i'm
[947.46] Chris: just going to run it on three cell and the first day i must have broke oh my gosh like eight nine
[953.7] Chris: ten props i don't know i kept crashing and crashing i'm like ah maybe it's i just got to
[957.94] Chris: get used to it so ordered some four cells finally fluid on four cell it's night and day like i'll
[965.86] Chris: never go back to a three cell it it's not even the same copter on four cell and i never crashed
[971.7] Chris: once and never knock on wood i haven't broke a prop since so it's staying on four wow 18s or 15s
[980.18] Chris: actually i'm running uh i have both i have some multi-star 1400s and some new graphene 1800s
[987.7] Jack: wow oh my god those graphene 1800s i bet they're massive yeah i was gonna ask it with the
[995.22] Frank: graphines have you been running them out running down a lot have you tried them out uh just just
[1001.46] Chris: briefly i ran a little bit through them i haven't even like probably you know uh like 10 minutes
[1008.34] Chris: you know here and there but i really haven't i almost have to go out to a big open area to
[1013.94] Chris: to really push it and see because like i said around my house like i'm dodging in and out of
[1018.02] Chris: trees and they might just punch it for you know you know this thing climbs like like a rocket so
[1022.9] Chris: like two seconds you're at 300 feet you know and then you're back down off the power so i need to
[1027.94] Chris: get out in the open somewhere when the wind dies down here soon and and uh give them a push and
[1032.74] Chris: see what they're gonna do but i don't think you know they're gonna have any problems at all with
[1036.82] Jack: them uh joe joe yeah yeah you had a few questions about the youtube community and the education
[1048.42] Jae: safe flying yeah i mean it was uh just one of the videos i saw recently uh that you did quite a few
[1054.98] Jae: years ago about the anti-drone stuff and i just thought actually this seems to be as they seem to
[1061.06] Jae: get more and more mainstream the dangers of education where people are just getting these
[1065.3] Jae: things and flying them because they see how much fun they can be obviously you've had
[1070.74] Jae: quite a problem where they're all registered and we've had a few discussions about that and how
[1074.18] Jae: it's not well working so i i guess the question is do you do you think the youtube community's
[1079.86] Jae: uh like flight test or like any of these should be promoting more of the safety aspect
[1085.06] Chris: to protect our our uh pastime our fun uh you know that's kind of a touchy subject because
[1093.3] Chris: i mean yeah we could or i shouldn't say we pretty much them got you know the regular
[1097.86] Chris: flight test crew you know josh and alex and austin and um they probably could maybe do more but i
[1105.78] Chris: think the problem lies over here is you you get these people who uh see a video of a drone or or
[1113.14] Chris: i talked about around christmas i'm you know over here we have these big stores called best buy
[1118.18] Chris: and they started selling the uniques and the djis and everything and you know here's these
[1123.14] Chris: these dads going in there and they're seeing these big you know displays and says anybody can fly
[1129.14] Chris: and you know shoot video and blah blah blah and they're they're standing there drooling over this
[1133.86] Chris: thing and i just want to go over and go don't bother buddy you're gonna waste your you know
[1137.86] Chris: you're gonna spend 1200 and you're gonna go out and the thing's gonna either fly away you're
[1141.78] Chris: gonna crash and you're gonna be out your money that's what i want to do i i think the problem
[1145.7] Chris: is you know if if you're in the hobby or you're you're starting in the hobby you may find some
[1150.18] Chris: you know stuff and learn about it through flight tests or whoever else or or whatever but it's
[1155.62] Chris: these people that you know it could even be a photographer you know coming in and saying you
[1161.06] Chris: know man i could get so much better if i bought bought a drone uh so it's the people not in or
[1167.06] Chris: around the hobby that's the problem you know and they're not finding you know the the videos or or
[1172.9] Chris: the um sites or whatever that you know explains some of the safety features or or you know things
[1180.42] Chris: to do and not to do i think that's where the problem lies i was talking to someone who bought
[1187.54] Adam Juniper: so i've just been four days after the photography show so loads of people buying that thing
[1193.3] Adam Juniper: asking me for advice yeah and um one of them was saying they actually went and bought a phantom
[1200.26] Adam Juniper: and then opened it and there was nothing in the box except maybe just a quick start guy they didn't
[1205.54] Adam Juniper: know what the sum of the switches on the remote was for yep exactly i which is terrifying and
[1210.9] Chris: they've still gone out and had a flight yeah and and you know you got a 50 50 shot there of like
[1216.98] Chris: yeah it's either gonna go and and everything's gonna work out and come back and you're like oh
[1220.82] Chris: man i'm a hero or you know you're gonna lose your 1200 dollar drone he was saying like oh yeah it
[1226.74] Adam Juniper: started going uh going around in sort of circles i'm like did you manage to turn on the you know
[1232.58] Adam Juniper: the orbit mode and you're like the what exactly exactly yeah what's what's compass calibration
[1239.54] Adam Juniper: you know i mean he did at least manage to have done the dance that it was uh yeah that's there's
[1249.22] Adam Juniper: there's a quick start guide with the pictures of the dance then after that you have to download a
[1253.62] Adam Juniper: pdf but no one's downloading a pdf when they're excited are they i think no no i think that's
[1259.06] Frank: where flight test does a really good job in that that's something that we can point people towards
[1263.94] Frank: and they will still stay say excited about it and still pick up you know the key things of what to
[1271.46] Adam Juniper: avoid what to do it's definitely a lot it's definitely a lot more fun than a 64 page black
[1276.74] Chris: from white pdf oh yeah i agree i i mean even when i bought my phantom three uh i was nervous
[1283.14] Chris: like i've been doing this you know 10 years when that thing arrived and i know what i paid for it
[1288.74] Chris: and everything i'm telling you what i was nervous like i was afraid to like go outside my yard like
[1295.14] Chris: this thing was just gonna i i think it stems from way back in the early days of flight test you know
[1300.42] Chris: when fpv was first coming around and when you know some of the guys like josh and david were messing
[1305.62] Chris: around with the early gps stuff and sometimes it would work sometimes it wouldn't the whole
[1310.66] Adam Juniper: you know and i seen so many failures well i've seen gps do the bad thing as well exactly and
[1317.14] Chris: and you know it's like 50 percent of the time it seems like the stuff didn't work so i had that
[1322.9] Chris: instilled in my brain like it's murphy's law if something can go wrong it's going to go wrong
[1327.94] Chris: you know if the moon the stars don't align and you're out so even with the phantom and i all
[1333.86] Chris: the feature and everything like i studied uh youtube videos you know about the app uh flight
[1340.5] Chris: problems people had i was on the forums for like a month like trying to study and learn everything
[1346.1] Chris: i possibly could about this phantom of what possibly could go wrong but luckily i will say
[1351.86] Chris: besides my own stupidity i haven't had any problems with it whatsoever it's just been fantastic
[1357.86] Adam Juniper: nah yeah i would say for all of the DJI stuff the only time i've done any bad stuff with it is
[1362.66] Adam Juniper: well except for the naza which that can off right and right um but uh yes it's been very well
[1371.22] Adam Juniper: worried but yeah the thing about the money is a mate like when you build it something little
[1376.26] Adam Juniper: it's great when you've um spent over a thousand pounds or dollars um it's it's terrifying isn't
[1384.26] Adam Juniper: it it really does change your your view of it yes absolutely my mom doesn't understand why i fly
[1390.02] Adam Juniper: them at all she's like well you've got it but why why are you gonna risk it it and it was really
[1396.5] Chris: funny is uh the first time i really flew uh we were down at chad's house and of course chad has
[1401.86] Chris: one and he has it for the company and uh and we hit we were in a more of an open space and now
[1407.3] Chris: even then i'm nervous and we're up flying around he's like ah just go just follow me if something
[1412.82] Chris: happens don't worry about it you know and we're flying all around and we were talking i'm like i
[1418.02] Chris: haven't even tried to return to home yet because i'm thinking it's just gonna freak out and go
[1421.62] Chris: somewhere else because it's fine he just reaches over and hits return to home and of course you
[1427.7] Chris: know it comes back lands by and you go see it's fine just fly the stupid thing so that kind of
[1434.02] Adam Juniper: i've noticed also that all the bad stories that people now really do expect them to go to chenson
[1438.74] Jae: every time well yeah next month in well in april uh over the uk skies they uh have some
[1447.46] Jae: war games going on as a military exercise which means they're actually going to start
[1452.18] Jae: doing gps jamming as well so therein lies a problem for people relying strictly on gps to
[1458.34] Chris: get it back oh man which you shouldn't you know it blows my mind too i was just watching some
[1464.82] Chris: youtube videos of uh the phantom four and um i don't know if it's dji or other companies giving
[1471.38] Chris: them out or they have these youtubers that are you know either have six million followers or
[1475.62] Chris: whatever and they're like oh man maybe it's a good idea let's send them a dji and i've seen
[1480.5] Chris: like three or four now where these guys get them don't know anything about them pull them out of
[1484.34] Chris: the box take off and they're just flying around they're like well it says it just lost signal
[1489.06] Chris: what does that mean you know and there are things going all over the place they're like well let me
[1492.74] Chris: read those words yeah let's hit return to home it's not even in sight and he's pushing return
[1498.82] Chris: to home looking around like do you see it do you hear it where did it go oh hey there it is look
[1504.26] Chris: it came back and i'm thinking oh this is just terrible terrible same thing and i've seen that
[1510.5] Adam Juniper: same video oh my god marketing departments it's like they just go for the biggest you know yeah

[1523.3] Chris: one video the guy was they was laying on the ground the the remote was like off beside him
[1530.1] Chris: and he's just you know hit return to home waiting for the thing to come back
[1534.58] Jack: oh man it's it's like if you ever watched that video of um the guys it's two uh stacked buildings
[1543.94] Jack: what they called like high rising flats yeah what you what do you guys call them uh sky
[1549.3] Jack: skyscrapers maybe no like but you've got each layers like got different flats on it condos
[1555.62] Jack: yeah i can't i'm trying apartment building yeah apartment building yeah yeah that's it sorry i'm
[1561.46] Jack: trying to i'm trying to change yeah translate it so the uh you can understand so um they're flying
[1569.94] Jack: clearly from their balcony and they go behind the other high rise building and then they can't see
[1576.98] Jack: and hit return to home and you're watching this youtube video of this naza try and head back home

[1663.54] Chris: now that it doesn't work so this guy was testing it out and he knows all about it has a three
[1669.62] Chris: flipped it to sport mode forgot that it doesn't work in sport mode went flying toward this fence
[1675.38] Chris: and it didn't stop and it just slammed right into it so i'm thinking i wonder how many problems
[1680.42] Chris: people are going to have when they flip it between sport mode and camera mode and forget
[1684.18] Chris: that they you know the avoidance doesn't work or in the case of this kid lara's talking about

[1767.22] Chris: i really don't even mess with that because for me it's too expensive but if you had the money to buy
[1773.22] Chris: the inspire or just get the pro uh or i should say the phantom 3 pro is there many advantages
[1781.06] Chris: unless the inspire besides obviously the the rotating camera and the you know the retractable
[1787.14] Adam Juniper: here and as a photographer type i would say that especially against the you know the newer phantom
[1794.9] Adam Juniper: the 4s phantom um there's there's not a lot in it in the picture quality unless you're getting
[1802.9] Adam Juniper: the x5 which you know is a lot more money and that is that is an amazing camera changing
[1810.74] Adam Juniper: oh yeah and stuff that's stunning but yeah otherwise no the fans are actually a lot better than
[1818.34] Jae: i'd say the phantom 4 with 28 minutes and okay if you said 20 odd minutes yeah flying is actually
[1823.78] Jae: a better thing than the inspire's 18 minutes yeah yeah no exactly well even the even the phantom 3
[1830.74] Chris: has a comfortably longer flight time yeah i'm i'm generally getting a good 15 minutes of pure flying
[1837.86] Chris: and then got that five minute kind of reserve to get it back on the ground but the only thing i
[1842.18] Chris: can really see the inspire like i've had a few shots where um you know if the camera's pretty
[1846.9] Chris: much straight ahead and if you got a heavy wind or you're really chasing something kind of fast
[1851.46] Chris: you generally do get the props in the shot where with the inspire i don't think you're going to have
[1855.86] Adam Juniper: that problem you're very ready do you see it when you make a really harsh turn you know when you
[1861.38] Adam Juniper: really kick it into a full speed from nothing you might for the moment free um you know if the camera
[1868.18] Adam Juniper: happens to be at that angle uh-huh but you know yeah no it's incredibly rare yeah it's cool that
[1874.66] Adam Juniper: you know they they even as a one operator you can use the screen to rotate rotate the camera
[1880.26] Adam Juniper: so you can sort of drag on the um the screen with your finger while you're controlling with the

[1942.1] Frank: then it's going to make it into the inspire line as the pro line so i think it makes a lot of sense

[2049.54] Jae: tracking and i've seen some pretty impressive car following just from you know the shape recognition
[2054.82] Jae: and it produces good cinematic results and essentially it is a flying camera it's not
[2059.78] Jae: necessarily something you race around but it is a flying camera to do that autumn you know
[2064.18] Jae: with smoothness that it would be tricky sometimes to yaw and track and uh you know so i think the
[2071.3] Jae: automation comes in and uses in some of the flight modes such as the point of interest and the active
[2075.86] Jae: tracking point of interest where it's somebody's walking and it's panning around this person
[2079.86] Jae: there's i think the potential to create interesting shots is what the technology is not giving us and

[2500.11] Jae: here probably didn't i did oh okay yeah too then so um as a kid i had one but it crashed and then
[2508.51] Jae: for years i didn't have one and there was a computer bit retailer so they just basically
[2513.31] Jae: sold computer components but they got these cheap rc falcon sort of plugged together gliders and
[2518.75] Jae: i actually was hooked on that again so from about 2007 i was strapping my mobile phone to my planes
[2524.99] Jae: trying to get aerial photography because yeah i mean a couple of times it crashed and then
[2531.07] Jae: sometimes it worked well to the point where i was doing like dives like rolls and stuff it was
[2537.07] Jae: yeah um and then i'd take my phone off and i'd use that as my mobile phone so uh there's always
[2542.83] Jae: been that wanting to do it and then i've i mean multi-roads for me about four years but only
[2548.43] Jae: recently really to a 250 size for fun but yeah so mine's mine's a past of that and i bypassed
[2556.11] Jae: haze because they were always too expensive to repair but i wish i kind of got into helis earlier

[2593.63] Jack: going going on to youtube and then typing in uh rc drift cars and watching the japanese drift them
[2600.03] Jack: around oh yeah little mock mountain oh it was amazing and that then why didn't you just get ridge
[2606.83] Jack: racer on the playstation one no it's not the same dude you got you got to destroy some actual rubber
[2612.75] Jack: you know and um you know i'm watching them tweak their suspension and that and like they're speaking

[3265.55] Chris: or rope or something and they would hang the heli upside down off the poles and practice inverted
[3270.99] Chris: maneuvers so that way they could try different things uh inverted without it completely

[3365.63] Chris: tuffling it out for immersion or something i think he was testing it yeah i remember
[3371.87] Frank: i've been trying to find any more details about it and it's obviously not out yet but

[3527.39] Chris: whatever it's just he's just got this uh thing about him to where he's very just easy to talk
[3534.03] Chris: to down to earth and seems to know a little bit of about everything and i just found him fascinating
[3540.67] Chris: i mean just very personable but but even and then to to go out and see his flying skills and
[3547.63] Jack: it was just amazing i can't believe how much of a wind-up merchant he is he will make you chase
[3554.67] Jack: your tail you know like the whole sent your pids to four um like even you know um
[3563.31] Jack: you know the dubai stuff here we go this is this this has started a whole new thing about dubai
[3568.43] Jack: but he he would like make up different ages for um for uh bani who who won he would be like he's
[3576.51] Jack: 12 he's 13 oh yeah if you listen to various news reports they're quoting his like you know paul
[3583.15] Jack: shapu is apparently not from spain he's from uh what is it mexico yeah that's it like you know
[3589.63] Jack: he's not he's he's mexican apparently so um oh that's funny it's definitely very intelligent
[3596.99] Chris: and yeah like the the time he spent you know testing things and trying things or whatever
[3602.59] Chris: and even the the one night i was down there between him and david vindenstahl and and steel
[3608.59] Chris: like going in very very in depth of of things beyond pids of i was i was so blown away and
[3617.07] Chris: it was so over my head that i was i was completely out of the conversation but listening intently
[3621.79] Chris: because it was so interesting how in depth they were getting like you know well three months ago
[3626.91] Chris: this was this number and we tested this with this prop and then we had to change this pid to that
[3631.47] Chris: you know change the p to this and the d to that i was like wow blown away hmm i mean um i i quite
[3639.63] Jack: like steel you know as much as like at first i wasn't sure about him but that guy has got no
[3645.87] Jack: time for bullshit you know he's an interesting yeah for sure you know you kind of admire him
[3653.23] Jack: by the way he works kind of you know he was like so you know he gets given a kiss flight controller
[3660.67] Jack: he's like turns all the filters off and he's like ah that makes sense and it's like he almost finds
[3666.91] Jack: his own way so that's what i quite like about him but he's quite easy to like give up on things
[3673.39] Jack: that he's an interest it's like herding cats yeah you know those guys i can't imagine the fun
[3679.15] Chris: you guys must have had with them yeah i mean it basically you just kind of sit back and observe
[3685.39] Chris: that that's that was the cool thing and the one thing about steel that it just blows my mind is
[3690.91] Chris: how little time he's been in the hobby and what he's learned and been able to do and his flying
[3697.95] Chris: skill that's what really gets me like the guy can go out and just do just about anything imaginable
[3704.75] Chris: very rarely crashes um and it's just like wow and you've only been flying for how long that's
[3710.83] Jack: just insane yeah i think he had a lot of transferable skills from the helis you know i think that's
[3718.99] Jack: made a big difference you know sure yeah you know because a lot of us are like oh if we crash or
[3725.39] Jack: break a prop whereas like the heli guys are like if i crash yeah hours of like money hours of repair
[3733.15] Jack: and possible death right you know so yeah i think it's a different breed oh for sure yeah you're
[3743.07] Adam Juniper: right that background does make you think very differently yeah like you know those those
[3748.35] Jack: you know those things like when they crash they're kind of yeah it's quite difficult difficult
[3754.43] Chris: yeah yeah i've been there i went into helis early on and and realized uh you know i was so intrigued
[3763.07] Chris: by him and learning to fly them but that was my problem you crash and then spend four or five
[3769.47] Chris: hours rebuilding the head and retrimming everything and getting it to fly right and then you'd be so
[3775.31] Chris: nervous to like try another maneuver you're like i don't want to crash i don't want to crash
[3779.55] Chris: and you just finally got to the point where okay i'm i'm over this i'm i'm done you know
[3786.35] Adam Juniper: that is what would be completely beyond me about the helis yeah like i'm that nervous
[3791.07] Adam Juniper: you know we were talking before about like a phantom which is pretty much flies itself
[3795.79] Adam Juniper: right imagine how nervous i'd be about that whereas you know i can see uh like well jack
[3802.03] Adam Juniper: when you just bammed it into the ground in front of the other day and you just dust it off and
[3806.75] Adam Juniper: you're off in the air again it's yeah that level of relaxation is fantastic right i i think though
[3813.87] Chris: i mean i could be wrong but you know with horizon hobby coming out with this safe technology stuff
[3818.67] Chris: and now they're starting to put it on some some of their helis i think they're kind of testing the
[3822.43] Chris: waters a little bit you know with the we call it the oh crap or the oh button you know where you
[3828.03] Chris: can actually go up here you swear yeah uh you know to go sorry producer whomever yeah
[3836.59] Chris: you know to actually go up and try a maneuver you know and go oh crap you know and hit the button
[3841.95] Chris: and and everything's good you know that that may bring helis back into the game a little bit
[3848.11] Frank: yeah yeah that's still a big part of displays at shows and things i think you know because
[3853.71] Frank: the 3d helis at least to do their big you know uh well lit displays they're still really
[3860.03] Frank: impressive especially with all the noise and everything from the back and forth i totally
[3864.83] Chris: agree to for me uh a good oh yeah 3d heli pilot yeah you can't beat a 3d heli pilot show i mean
[3873.31] Chris: that like you said the sound and the the noise and the way it looks in the air and you can't beat it
[3879.87] Adam Juniper: i don't think yeah no i'm just saying i'm too scared that's that just makes me more impressed
[3885.31] Jack: by the people and it is funny watching people hide behind other people oh yeah that's me yeah
[3892.67] Chris: that is yeah you know when i i never really gave it too much thought until the day we were shooting
[3898.83] Chris: the episode when david had the big 500 heli and he had the mannequin out there and he's whipping
[3904.03] Chris: this 500 heli around and runs into it you know with the blades of death and it just literally
[3910.27] Chris: you know took this dummy out like the we had a watermelon there and i was just like oh he missed
[3915.47] Chris: the watermelon didn't he or something yeah he kind of missed it but he actually went back and
[3920.03] Chris: did it again but holy cow that brought a whole new perspective to like you know what that that
[3926.03] Chris: really could just literally cut you in half and not even think twice about it it's happened as
[3931.55] Chris: that kid demonstrated yeah yeah it's it's uh happened over here in the states there's been
[3935.87] Chris: uh a few people uh one uh maybe a year ago in new york city that was a big it was on the news here
[3943.63] Adam Juniper: yeah yeah i remember feeling it was a bit crass that they were filming it from a helicopter
[3948.83] Adam Juniper: to try and show the scene you know obviously they'd got a tarp or something but yeah but he was a
[3954.83] Jae: competent pilot wasn't he yeah i don't know if he had a malfunction i mean who knows what happened
[3959.95] Adam Juniper: but yeah i i would guess he was getting a bit close you know could be getting interested
[3965.63] Frank: he was on his own wasn't he no one knows yeah right right 3d heli displays uh do you get involved
[3971.79] Chris: much in the flight fest side of things um yes and no like those guys pretty much playing everything
[3980.43] Chris: out um this year i think we're going to do a little bit more we have a few ideas of uh maybe
[3985.71] Chris: doing some live podcasting during the event uh we may actually uh we've been kicking around the idea
[3991.95] Chris: doing maybe you know like uh we did it last year too but it wasn't like set in stone like we didn't
[3996.99] Chris: have a set time or anything but this year we might do you know like uh we're gonna have a couple uh
[4002.35] Chris: radian flies or some whippets you know get a bunch of people together um but other than that uh you
[4009.71] Chris: know it's just nice to to hang out you know meet people talk to people you know
[4016.75] Chris: really i don't get to fly that much which is okay because it's almost more fun just to hang
[4022.43] Chris: out meet people talk to them and watch other people like i really enjoy watching other people
[4027.63] Chris: fly and you know seeing different airplanes or aircrafts or quads or whatever and just talk to
[4033.63] Chris: the people about them you know what gave you that you know the idea to build that or how does this
[4037.63] Chris: fly or what do you you know that's what really interests me so you know if i even it i could
[4042.83] Chris: probably go through the whole weekend and not fly at all and be perfectly content but i think this
[4047.31] Chris: year we're going to try to do a little bit more flying and maybe organize a few events yeah because
[4052.43] Frank: i've been to quite you know some reasonably big organized events but the fun fly events i've been
[4057.71] Frank: to we've all been fairly small people fairly small groups where everyone knows everyone else and it's
[4063.79] Frank: all quite you know we all just kind of know each other by by name and as the community is growing
[4072.27] Frank: a lot more i'm wondering whether the events this year are going to be a lot bigger so i was wondering
[4076.51] Frank: if with your experience having seen the massive fun flies at the flight fest what's you know do
[4083.55] Frank: you have any tips for like what's gone well and like what should maybe either organizers or us
[4091.87] Frank: going to these events is there is there anything different when it gets really big
[4097.47] Chris: um you know i think we've been very fortunate um the the strange thing with flight fest is it
[4104.83] Chris: was so community driven um that it just felt like even though you you were meeting people for the
[4112.51] Chris: first time it like you knew each other uh you know and again some people uh talked on the forums or
[4118.83] Chris: whatever for a year or two or you know knew each other a little bit but we haven't really run into
[4125.63] Chris: any problems so far so i you know as far as um you know maybe dos or don'ts or whatever i you know i
[4134.27] Chris: flight tests ran you know even last year we had some weather problems but even the first year that
[4138.91] Chris: first event ran so smooth and everything went so well it was just almost too good to be true
[4145.71] Chris: we had absolutely zero issues no problems nobody getting hurt um we had a few issues last year i
[4152.35] Chris: think with the fpv stuff you know every now and then somebody might flick something on or try to
[4156.75] Chris: go for a little little flight here and there um but other than that uh it's been uh going really
[4164.19] Jack: smooth i mean uh i think what helps for you is you've got jen which uh that is a valuable
[4170.99] Jack: absolutely you're like just hearing about her um i loved the whole people recognize you for your
[4176.35] Chris: voice um that made me that made me laugh um that is really strange man just to walk down somewhere
[4184.67] Chris: and talk or i'll be talking to somebody and they'll turn around and go you must be chris and i'm like
[4189.79] Chris: yep they're like i recognize the voice and the funniest thing was mike you know mike has this
[4195.95] Chris: this voice and this laugh that is yeah yeah you can recognize that thing from miles away and mike
[4201.87] Chris: would just laugh and people would just swarm around him because instantly they knew who it was
[4206.67] Chris: it was just crazy and he almost the first day just didn't know how to take that you know
[4212.27] Jack: mike's quite nice he laughs quite nice is that if you crack a joke and he laughs you kind of feel
[4216.91] Chris: good about yourself you know it's like that guy he is he is pure entertainment gold whether it's
[4223.87] Chris: in the studio whether you're out flying with him whether you have to lunch with him i mean
[4229.55] Chris: he's just entertaining again he's kind of like that friend i love to be around mike because he
[4234.35] Chris: he always makes me laugh or i have a smile on my face and there's always entertainment no matter
[4239.15] Jack: what he does it's great um yeah i mean the uh the other side of like the good thing is uh
[4245.95] Jack: everything's foam so you're pretty safe you know i don't think anyone's going to injure themselves
[4251.23] Jack: you know you're all it's all electric yep yep yeah it's all you know it's all kid friendly
[4255.87] Jack: i mean um you've got people like ibc crazy who are giving out dummy loads so the um you know you
[4261.87] Jack: can test your fpv gear and you know you got well organized you got volunteers who uh you know and
[4268.51] Jack: you kind of from a get-go of watching a first video you know you kind of you've got the sort
[4273.39] Jack: of like religious side of it of like you know everyone's a you know brother and like you know
[4277.95] Jack: you're around good people you know like yeah and that from the the get-go of like you know be nice
[4284.27] Jack: be respectful and it's kind of like bred into the videos and like build the hobby you're a good
[4288.75] Jack: represent representation of the hobby you know think about every time you go out and i think
[4294.59] Jack: that's just kind of passed through so that when everyone gets there they're still reading off the
[4299.31] Jack: the same him page shall we say see yeah a little little reference i think that's um
[4304.91] Jack: that's pretty good and i what really sort of like you know shocked me was um you know you had like
[4310.91] Jack: the uh stone blue airlines and they crashed into a hobby uh they had a wing and they crashed into
[4317.55] Jack: a heli and people were like here's 20 bucks towards this and there's actually a video of it
[4323.15] Jack: yes you know and it's just like here dude i you know like you know don't be down here's 20 you
[4328.51] Jack: know and like people were just giving him money had more money than the thing was worth you know
[4332.91] Jack: they were just like get something better like and you know here's here's some here's some money
[4338.19] Jack: just because you can't fly right now you know like have some beer or some food and right you
[4343.31] Jack: know and i just thought wow this this hobby and um you know at the fpv nationals um my buddy was
[4352.51] Jack: flying over in the uk he was he was in the race and that and uh he went for a bit of a fun fly
[4358.27] Jack: afterwards with me over a field and his vtx burnt out so we went back to the nationals and
[4364.59] Jack: i literally stood in a crowd of people and was like has anyone got one of these and held it up
[4369.31] Jack: and people were like what is it passed it around and then sorry jack i thought for a minute you
[4374.35] Adam Juniper: were stood right here holding your uh you know does anyone follow these yeah half of us do and
[4380.67] Jack: the other half of we're naughty but yeah some you know uh funny enough banny you know the you
[4387.95] Jack: know 15 year old champion he was like yep i've won one of those here you go give us 30 quid tomorrow
[4393.47] Jack: and then just walked off and was like you know it was just it's the hobby's just great like everyone
[4399.07] Jack: wants to help each other out and i i don't i've never experienced anything like that in my life
[4403.79] Chris: where you know like nothing's a problem no i i totally agree you know besides maybe you know i've
[4409.95] Chris: been my big background is the motocross community which is very similar as far as people wise and
[4416.35] Chris: helping out but yeah the rc community is unbelievable and like one of the things
[4420.43] Chris: that really blew my mind that first year you know when you had i forget what the number was
[4424.59] Chris: you know like 3 000 people or whatever we had that first year is after sunday when we were
[4429.63] Chris: you know just kind of winding down and cleaning things up and everybody was gone you didn't find
[4434.91] Chris: one piece of trash on that whole property after all those people left i mean it's that's just the
[4441.39] Chris: kind of people we have coming to flight fest i mean to me that kind of blew my mind yeah that's
[4448.19] Adam Juniper: now that's really true of yeah people here too and the it literally is the best community that
[4454.03] Jack: doesn't have a lesson brilliant right uh yeah i just i can't believe you know yeah you're right
[4461.63] Jack: i mean there's people that will actively like look for their broken props and that
[4465.87] Jack: just because they don't want to litter yeah you know and you know if we if we do see them we do
[4471.55] Jack: like pick them up and it kind of it just encourages like you know it kind of it passes on you know
[4477.23] Jack: i'm like come on man we're not savages here and i can't you know we'll have a we might look like it
[4482.91] Jack: yeah that's what i do definitely you know and it you do i mean i'm you know like my recycling box
[4490.59] Jack: outside my house is like full of props and there must be someone who walks past and goes

[4504.03] Chris: all over the world that show up for that event and everybody's on the same page you know they're
[4508.91] Chris: just happy to be there they once want to hang out and have fun and like i said with with the ft
[4515.47] Chris: community you know it just seems like everybody already knows everybody even though a lot of
[4521.39] Chris: people have only met there for the first time you know whether it was people we were talking to from
[4525.95] Chris: australia or over in europe uh hawaii i mean well i think it was six different countries we had 42
[4533.79] Chris: states represented i mean it was just unbelievable i would love to come over to to flight fest it's
[4541.15] Jack: just you know like i get there what do i do do i rent a car you know where am i going to sleep you
[4546.99] Chris: know um um did you hear i think we talked about on the podcast but did you hear the story of i can't
[4553.39] Chris: remember his name but i think he was coming from china no we had a kid from china he decided he
[4560.75] Chris: was coming to flight fest bought a ticket hopped on a plane uh flew into cleveland i mean he just
[4567.15] Chris: did this on a whim he had it he had nothing but the clothes on his back and the suitcase
[4571.55] Chris: of stuff he brought with him he had a complicated visa it filled out yes you know uh rented uh took
[4578.59] Chris: a bus down the canton got in the canton figured out a taxi to getting you know out to the field
[4584.67] Chris: strolling down the driveway in a suitcase you know and when we realized what this kid went through
[4590.03] Chris: and how he got here and everything like everybody just jumped in like fred's like oh here here's
[4594.59] Chris: here's my my hammock tent you know and uh you know you can stay here or here's the food or here
[4599.95] Chris: you know whatever you need they just help this kid out because he just traveled you know how
[4604.99] Chris: eight thousand miles to come over to flight test for three days so if that's the problem don't worry
[4610.67] Chris: about it we'll take care of you one way or the other you know somebody will put you in a motor
[4614.91] Chris: home or something you know take you out and get you food i will bring you coffee and the more
[4620.27] Chris: whatever you need buddy just you know hop on that plane and come over we'll take care of you

[4744.03] Jack: and i started up this other podcast i've left that now and um dot doom who's into he's running the
[4752.83] Jack: mini air show on the seventh i met him at his first mini air show and i got chatting to him and
[4760.11] Jack: and uh he was he i i helped build him a new quad and i was chatting to him and uh he offered me to
[4768.43] Jack: come around on his show and talk about you know drones because he was interested in them so i
[4773.31] Jack: went around um i'll i can send you the link as well and and spent an hour on his show talking
[4779.79] Jack: about quadcopters and everything and then after that he said that was really good there was loads
[4783.87] Jack: listeners um would you like to do your own show and um during the show jay is being particularly
[4792.67] Jack: quiet tonight um not always not always he was very vocal on the chat and i liked some of his
[4799.15] Jack: questions he was asking and that so i i grabbed him as a co-host i got tony the wonderful moan star

[5170.83] Chris: head plays got all excited ran outside fired it up cranking around i probably was doing 80 miles
[5177.55] Chris: an hour down the road with a tricopter and got towards the end of my road boom pitcher just
[5182.51] Chris: gone i was like ah throttle down comes down crashes on the road i'm like oh what happened
[5188.75] Chris: go over of course everything's fine that that mini tri is a beast come back i'm looking over
[5194.11] Chris: everything and here dummy me was in a hurry and got excited i never put the other antenna
[5199.31] Chris: on the head play goggles so i had no antenna on there oh no yes oh so that was my uh fun
[5208.75] Chris: experience here uh last week oh that recently yeah oh yeah just last week yeah i was uh i'm
[5216.11] Chris: like i gotta get these things on i want to test them out got in a hurry and you know it's amazing

[5225.39] Chris: there was no fuzz no not instantly nothing and i was like oh my god what am i going to do now

[5255.31] Jack: one of the tricky ones is an sma connector with an rpsma antenna already did that yeah no oh man no
[5265.39] Jack: it you know and you never know you'd never know because it doesn't burn your vtx out because it's
[5270.59] Jack: got that load on it yeah so but as soon as that thing wiggles loose that's it you know game over
[5278.03] Chris: yeah or the same thing it'll work great close but once you get out there a ways in it it breaks up

[5335.39] Frank: for a little one to round my family and uh i i gave it to my mum and she immediately because i
[5343.07] Frank: i didn't really sort of think about it i'd only been playing around with it with myself for a
[5347.23] Frank: short while so i was just like these are what they do have a go and uh my mum just immediately
[5353.95] Frank: falls throttle up in the sky she jumped she was like ah it's disappearing i don't know what to do
[5359.79] Frank: now i was just like drop it drop it meaning drop the throttle but obviously
[5365.23] Frank: oh no there's a bit of ambiguity there so yeah that was that that was me having to then jump
[5375.63] Frank: over and and try and get it back so then okay panic over mum runs and slides and panicking
[5382.03] Frank: give it to my dad and he immediately flies it full speed then he understands or understood
[5389.15] Frank: what i meant by drop the throttle he drops the throttle and dead in the pond oh no i was running
[5396.35] Frank: over there yanking it all out this is fine it flies perfectly fine i just uh hung it up on
[5402.27] Frank: the washing line for the rest of the afternoon well okay i i'm gonna uh yeah learn some lessons
[5410.59] Frank: from this if i'm handing a controller around i will uh take a bit more time to explain things
[5419.15] Frank: that's what the buddy box is for my i've set that up now so yeah i've had my brother on the
[5427.15] Frank: buddy box uh on the zmr and and that that worked all right although i did a similar thing in that
[5434.03] Frank: i didn't really think far enough ahead and really confused myself when i put it over to the so he
[5440.35] Frank: had control now it's just but it was the first time i'd ever done it on the tyrannis so i wasn't
[5444.75] Frank: entirely sure i'd programmed it correctly so i just took it out poppered it flicked it over
[5449.79] Frank: and then got really confused when it started falling out the sky and i didn't think to
[5455.31] Frank: switch it back until much much too late so yeah then again it's like i need to think through
[5462.27] Frank: these things a bit ahead of actually getting once you have time to think about it it's either

[5472.91] Jack: of that podcast you know the flight test podcast of that kid landing that other guy's plane
[5479.23] Jack: oh yeah the big glider one oh my word yeah man what happened to that like i just how can you

[5507.71] Jae: and this cord would fly everywhere there was nice fields near me but they were quite dusty every
[5511.47] Jae: time i took off i think i once landed in some rapeseed oil plants and it got covered in more dust
[5517.63] Jae: but the story goes that i strapped my mobile phone of the time to my cord because usually
[5523.23] Jae: that had the best camera of what i had accessible that was small enough to get aerial video i thought
[5528.75] Jae: you were going to bring up the wasps well i know the wasps well that's that's still a scary moment
[5535.95] Jae: no but what happened i was flying on this pretty cloudy and wet day and i went up i didn't let it
[5542.27] Jae: go into the clouds but the clouds are quite low and i think the moisture in the dust short of my
[5547.55] Jae: gyros because the next thing i know it faced upside down was apparent towards the ground
[5552.75] Jae: um i righted it the right way and it flipped over again i think the gyros was short shorted
[5559.47] Jae: it thought up was down came down hit the ground and it was all recorded on my camera and on my
[5565.31] Jae: mobile phone it still worked and the videos the videos are the web um because i i've been trying
[5571.71] Jae: to mount these things in uh jello free to make you know the video if you didn't get the mount
[5577.55] Jae: right it was just jello so i'd have all these sort of strange zip tied foam padding and it
[5582.67] Jae: survived the fall but it was a lesson learned that sometimes dust and moisture don't mix on
[5587.87] Jack: fine electronics that are exposed to the elements i can't believe i'm admitting this but i had a
[5593.39] Jack: compact sony camera and i literally masking taped it to a quad and it didn't go down too well and
[5601.47] Jack: that's all i'm gonna say that's all i'm gonna say yeah oh man uh the lens doesn't go away it

[6458.21] Frank: recently had an articles um covering some like professional analysis of the risk to aircraft from
[6465.57] Frank: drones saying that i'm trying to find it saying that turtles are a greater risk to commercial
[6472.77] Chris: airliners than drones yeah i've i've heard that too i mean turtles birds uh you know you name it
[6480.85] Chris: it's you know there's nothing nothing scientific saying that you know that drones are way worse
[6488.21] Chris: than anything else and i haven't seen any any statistics aware you know if you do suck a
[6493.73] Chris: phantom 3 into an airbus 380 that it's going to take out the engine i highly doubt it did any of
[6499.49] Jack: you see the um uh what was it the mythbusters episode of like birds taking out planes and they
[6509.57] Jack: were saying about the uk they phoned up the american supplier of the perspex glass the
[6518.13] Jack: you know glass and they were saying look you got your you had a lot better success and these aren't
[6525.09] Jack: we're firing chickens at these glass canopies and they're breaking and and then they said uh
[6533.09] Jack: defrost your birds yeah you know and we were we were still using frozen but yeah and it's like
[6540.61] Jack: you wouldn't find a i don't know why they're australian now you wouldn't find a frozen bird at
[6546.29] Jack: 2000 feet now would you or something like that i don't throw it up shoot our bird at the
[6551.09] Jae: plane here mate well i mean that okay there's small little bullets essentially as they like
[6557.73] Jae: to describe them in the official commercial training um you know with the motors four of
[6564.93] Jae: them on the end of you know quad but i think they mostly deflect planes are designed even
[6570.21] Jae: if one did hit one i don't think it's going to be as bad as what they would make out
[6574.05] Jae: to be because they're designed to be able to fly on one engine but even in worst case scenario
[6579.33] Jae: um i i think there's a lot of them just just worried about their jobs of how this technology
[6583.97] Jae: will start to take off more and the eu regulation on the the framework to get them into the airspace
[6591.25] Jae: a bit more to allow things like the amazon drone and that it is kind of uh going to be pushed in
[6597.17] Jae: the next four or five years so i think it's interesting a lot of these perhaps reports
[6602.53] Jae: because people are thinking well i deliver the mail is that meaning my job as a pilot is going
[6606.53] Jae: to be out of out of business i can't fly these things anymore because blah blah blah blah um
[6611.49] Jae: because people are taking my aerial photography work away from me i i do question really the the
[6617.81] Jae: what the motive is behind the mass media and often wrongly portrayed incidents that occur um but
[6624.37] Jae: luckily in the uk we have uh a place that's um called hidden valley which is a sort of an area
[6631.57] Jae: that the caa are aware of and everything that permits flying uh these aircraft and planes and
[6636.69] Jae: all sorts uh and sort of open with a membership sort of scheme and that's that's quite an
[6642.77] Jae: interesting thing that we've got in the uk as a model to how to integrate it and make it work
[6647.49] Jae: where people aren't restricted that they can still fly fpv uh in that model if you know and
[6654.21] Jack: responsibly right i mean we you know like here in the uk we're quite reasonable you know you're
[6660.13] Jack: allowed to fly fpv uh you're allowed to fly a paper airplane i know you guys aren't we believe
[6666.37] Jack: it or not we haven't got jaywalking laws because like yeah because like you know they trust us that
[6673.33] Jack: we're competent enough to cross the roads yeah common sense yeah you know and uh yeah actually

[6870.77] Chris: have fun and enjoy yourself so you know i i let it go up to february 19th which was the deadline
[6877.81] Chris: to register and i finally did register and you know things have calmed down a little bit
[6883.65] Chris: and we we haven't had any problems here with the local law enforcement matter of fact actually
[6888.93] Chris: most places we fly here the guys know us and they they really like us so um we'll stick with it for
[6894.77] Chris: a while and and see where it goes you know if it gets worse and and we're not having any fun then
[6899.57] Chris: i'm i'm done i'll move on but i hope that's not the case i hope you know things work out and they
[6906.29] Chris: kind of relax the rules and regulations a little bit and open up some of these flying areas that
[6910.85] Chris: they've already shut down and you know be smart about it but on the other hand we got to get rid
[6916.21] Chris: of some of these stupid people you know uh the things they're doing over here with with them and
[6922.69] Chris: it's not helping our case any and i think personally what we need to do is just come
[6926.85] Chris: up with some laws just like anything else if you do something really stupid you know we're gonna
[6931.73] Chris: throw you in jail or we're gonna find you or whatever but if you're just out flying and you're
[6936.45] Chris: doing your normal thing and not doing anything stupid then you know have fun go do what you
[6941.81] Jae: want to do so ultimately do a risk assessment and think well is it can i pull this off is it safe
[6948.21] Jae: enough for me to say yeah do this you know i suppose that's the gray line uh yeah again it
[6954.61] Chris: just boils down the common sense if you got the idiot that you know goes out and does something
[6960.45] Chris: really stupid or flies you know through air around an airport or whatever um you know make make some
[6966.69] Chris: heavy consequences you know like i said give them a hefty fine or you know put him in jail for a

[6976.29] Chris: gonna throw you in jail or give you a hefty fine just like that but i think they should make them

[7162.37] Chris: regulated aircraft and it's just turned into a giant mess it's terrible interesting in the
[7169.25] Jae: uk you're not allowed to endanger an aircraft as in they even threatened to shoot one down
[7175.41] Jae: and i've had it happen once in the uk once oh no kidding but the risk of that happening where
[7183.41] Jae: you know it's a rarity for someone to say that and to actually follow that out i suppose is
[7188.37] Jae: different from the u.s where it's probably it's more likely to happen if it's gonna happen um
[7194.45] Jae: but yeah the caa rules are that you're not allowed to endanger an aircraft no matter what that is
[7198.93] Jae: whether it's a quad or whether it's a full-sized manned aircraft right right now that makes sense

[7210.53] Jae: and now i suppose it's a step towards that in that if they've made a federal federal aircraft
[7215.25] Jae: in some description you can't endanger it because i'm sure they'll follow the similar aviation rules

[7228.85] Chris: that's it's a big gray area you know where where one one play okay take this for example uh out in
[7234.85] Chris: california a guy was flying down down along the beach um the guy thought he was goofing around
[7240.93] Chris: and spying on him was throwing rocks at the thing and finally you know uh got it knocked out of the
[7245.89] Chris: air and it crashed well he took him to court well they they the guy sued him and and he actually won
[7251.65] Chris: the drone operator won you know he got a big settlement out of it but then there was another
[7255.89] Chris: one like in texas where you know they shot one out of the sky and it went to court blah blah blah
[7260.69] Chris: well the guy with the drone was was in the wrong i mean it's there's there's no consistent set of
[7265.89] Chris: rules is the problem you know and well actually in the uk and it's probably similar there as soon as
[7272.61] Jae: you put a camera on it it's classified completely differently as in for the data protection act and
[7277.41] Jae: many other surveillance uh sort of uh laws and and all sorts regulations yeah yeah david's cut
[7285.01] Chris: in that same situation there in sweden where you stick a camera on it here you know that's
[7290.85] Jae: yeah yeah so wow unbelievable we're as bad as some of the you know european countries

[7329.25] Jae: youtuber and um people will mock that same behavior uh people see people do and it was so
[7337.01] Jae: interesting because i did a drone workshop for some kids it was part of a science week not so long ago
[7341.65] Jae: a week ago two weeks ago and um i i basically showed uh a schizo fpv you know it was always
[7350.53] Jae: flying in the stadium um f3 expos so and i showed them some racing and the kids all wanted to copy
[7359.25] Jae: the freestyle because it looked more fun and it was easier to to do that and it's interesting
[7364.45] Jae: that people will see you are look this phantom four i can fly it'll come back home i don't even
[7369.01] Jae: need to think about it they're not they're the ones that aren't going to bother reading a drone
[7372.77] Jae: code and that's the problem is how do you get that code out where it's actually start to be absorbed
[7377.81] Jae: because i think anyone that's come through an rc channel flying planes or anything or helis and
[7382.21] Jae: all that have already thought well these are dangerous i've got to be you know do everything
[7385.81] Jae: right yep i know floors um but it's all these newer flyers that how do you get that that piece
[7391.73] Jack: of air law and sensibility across i think i think the best the biggest difference is the
[7398.05] Jack: environment in which it's sold to you where you know like with the internet and like dgi i think

[7410.85] Jack: greatest fun everything will be fine but when you go into an rc shop and you're like i want to buy

[7420.45] Jack: doing that have you thought about this this could kill you your family it will spy on your grandparents
[7428.45] Jack: you know like you know if you buy that that makes you a terrorist and um it's it's the
[7433.49] Jack: environment it's a lot more sensible environment you know it's a lot realistic they want you to
[7437.33] Jack: have fun but they will look after you whereas you walk into like an electronic store like matt pins
[7443.97] Jack: they don't they will sell you their mother yes you know and they won't give you an instruction
