[0.46] (Editor): telemetry recovered don't forget this podcast is sponsored by radio c number one for all your [7.5] (Editor): drone related needs pay them a visit at radioc.co.uk and use the promo code ldo for five percent off [13.98] (Editor): your order and free shipping on orders over 80 pounds well hello everybody welcome to let's drone [18.78] Jae: out yeah um back for another week and uh pleasure to be here with jack i think he's lurking somewhere [24.38] Jae: in the background hello ah there you are uh we've got uh frank or andrew on the call hello hello [33.34] Jae: and i think someone lurking somewhere in another room somewhere else is uh adam juniper hi there [43.78] Jack: warning there may be plastic bags floating in the skies taking down planes if they're over 200 [52.26] Jack: grams please register them for the ama and uh they're not drones although they look just [61.06] Jack: the same to a pilot yeah i i'm so glad jay thank you for bringing that to my attention [68.42] Adam: yeah i've got i've gotta say isn't it more worrying that there are pilots that can't [73.7] Jae: tell the difference between a drone and a plastic bag it just went bang and we're like you know i [80.02] Jae: suppose he he would have seen this white thing that's flooding the air looks similar to a phantom [84.1] Jae: bang oh no it went bang so it's like a bag well he said he heard a a bang of some description it [90.02] Jae: could have just been the air pocket of a plastic bag hitting a plane coming in at a few hundred [94.58] Jae: bars an hour you know it's it's probably going to make a noise just like if you popped one [100.98] Adam: uh well i think it all feeds the um good drone conspiracy theory that uh all pilots just hate [106.98] Adam: drones so much that they'll say everything bad about them in airprox reports but we also need [112.42] Jae: to regulate uh helium balloons now as well make sure the kids those school science projects where [119.22] Adam: they put little cameras on them and send them up recklessly uh and a gps tracker i think those ones [125.78] Frank: they're actually clear with the caa first if they know what they're doing if they know what they're [130.58] Adam: doing but that's the whole problem isn't it they want if you manage to get hold of if you manage [135.7] Frank: to get hold of a weather balloon and the tank of helium then you probably have an inkling and [141.22] Frank: have had a google around and you've probably got the caa you know a little bit of the website you've [148.98] Adam: probably just been practicing doing silly voices that's what i do fair enough well similar to uh [156.1] Adam: drones they can get stuck in trees that's true yeah and of course they can make you think uh [163.62] Adam: think deeply about your inner soul and have the place of the world if uh if you enjoyed the film [168.74] Jack: american beauty yeah sorry i just i love the reference do you know what i miss i miss right [174.9] Jack: weird stuff floating in the skies and nut jobs just being like oh ufo now it yes it's a drone [184.26] Jack: it's a drone it's gonna kill us all it's spying on my family um it's got a bomb attached to it [191.3] Jack: that's it we're all gonna die for you know regulate regulate everything put them on a [196.5] Jack: list pervert list well enough of that but that's true i mean the good old days of the x-files [203.38] Adam: people you know smiled and drew a little picture of an alien and and they just assumed that kind [209.06] Adam: of thing but now it's all homeland and what have you on the telly so we assumed that we're all [213.54] Jack: gonna die yeah i say that's why i literally fly an alien sorry do you know that's right [219.14] Frank: but yes to to fill people in who are maybe listening from the future and don't know about [225.3] Frank: what we're talking uh we're talking about british airways airbus a320 that uh was coming into [234.18] Frank: london heathrow um it was about what was it i think 1200 feet something like that 1700 feet [242.98] Adam: 1700 feet final approach but and before it's flaring so they are looking down they should [248.1] Frank: have a good view yeah and then obviously the the pilot saw and believed to to hit [259.22] Frank: what he thought was a drone and what he reported as a drone you know there was a lot of back and [266.34] Frank: forth there's been lots of people that've been rather you know angry about this one way or another [274.66] Adam: um yeah that's very true um i think similar though it's also worth adding um that they looked at the [282.1] Adam: plane where and couldn't really see any evidence of anything and decided it was fine to fly it [286.02] Frank: again yeah that was when i was actually hoping that it was a drone i was hoping that they'd [290.9] Frank: find evidence this is definitely a drone because then you know it wouldn't be so much of an issue [297.46] Adam: then if we'd had a drone it's not an issue anyway where it shouldn't i i completely agree i found [302.9] Adam: myself saying that probably because i hadn't thought things through entirely in the morning [307.38] Adam: when they uh when they asked me to talk about it on the radio um because actually saying to people [313.22] Adam: well i really hope it was a drone that hit a plane and everyone survived is is the sort of thing you [318.9] Frank: don't quite want to have said yeah that's maybe not the best thing to have said oh yeah one of [324.5] Jae: the positives to come of this though one of the positives is that they are now going to go away [328.58] Jae: and ask different country to help out with this and smash drones into jet turbines and planes to [334.9] Jae: see what impact it would have that um just like the chickens used to be of yesteryear it's similar [340.42] Jae: to you know it's a modern thing that's going to have to be done so they're at least going to get [344.34] Jae: some findings for how so far they added that that's been that's been rumbling on for a long [349.3] Adam: time the discussion about the need to do that um there's a virginia tech apparently produced [355.7] Adam: some report that an eight pound drone would have a catastrophic effect on a jet even if [361.46] Adam: a six or eight pound bird wouldn't but so would an rpg what so so would an rpg the thing is you [370.74] Jae: don't need all your engines to fly um a 747 or any of these other ones they're designed so that [377.86] Adam: they can survive on yeah but it's a very expensive and oh indeed i don't want to be in that position [384.1] Jae: if it's a risk assessment that that's what essentially they're going to find out it may [387.78] Jae: destroy an engine it may not it may bounce off the fuselage but at least there'll be some findings [393.7] Jae: and i mean the truth is that some countries are going to start putting them into their airspace [397.78] Jack: anyway regardless of what the uk or the usa do hey chris g andrew explain yourself right [404.26] Jack: because you were saying that birds can take down airplanes because of what is it flots yeah i can't [412.82] Frank: so yeah um explain yourself i you know there was the famous hudson river incident where a plane had [422.1] Frank: both of its engines taken out by a flock of birds because birds went in both engines both engines [430.34] Adam: went bang um there's also an airbus three a320 there we go um successfully landed on the river [438.74] Adam: hudson by captain sully the hero um because you know he took off from the garden he couldn't [445.3] Adam: get as far as new york which shows you know just once you've taken the jets out planes don't go far [452.98] Adam: do they no their glide slope isn't as good then but um but it's sort of encouraging that everyone [460.66] Frank: got out i mean in that respect that was amazing good effort you know it was said that his pilot [466.34] Frank: thing was you know it was a particularly lucky yeah it was very lucky to have a big convenient [472.58] Adam: river right there um yeah you know exactly where he needed it everything just kind of worked out [478.9] Frank: quite well compared to what could have happened um there's a switch he's meant to have pressed [485.62] Adam: before an emergency water landing which he didn't and there was some discussion about that as well [491.3] Adam: i can't imagine thinking oh yeah i must reach around and find the emergency water landing button [496.42] Adam: you know i think you probably have some other thoughts going through your mind it reminds me [500.02] Jack: of red dwarf this is definitely a red alert that does mean changing the bulb um yeah uh [508.98] Jack: dan says it's all been driven by money greed doing deals with the likes of amazon and google [515.22] Jack: to clear the skies under 500 feet to fly the effing delivery drones they will take it away from us [524.1] Jack: and sell it to the highest bid is i need to calm down let's just see if that's right maybe take [530.66] Jae: your tin foil hat off for a little down yeah i think if it's gonna happen it'll be in the u.s [535.86] Jae: first for their airspace he says mark my words it'll be like the american virgin islands or [542.18] Adam: somewhere like that where they can safely do tests without too many commercial flights or [547.22] Frank: nirvana i suppose well australia has already done uh at least an assessment um with their [555.62] Frank: civil aviation safety authority so their version of the caa or the faa um did a study along with [563.06] Frank: monash university in 2013 into what sort of effect something of uh sort of ilk would do to [573.7] Adam: um you know an airliner are they now having um what do australian people eat like barbecues [580.9] Jae: delivered by a drone there's so many applications though so i mean it's always going to be a [588.18] Jae: progression to to get the next advancements to have the better sensing to enrich lives or [593.14] Jae: to to for search and rescue the technology is not going away and i think governments have to be [598.34] Jae: careful how they implement it into their airspace fear of being technologically disadvantaged from [603.78] Jae: not investing whilst they can because there's many applications all over the world from surveying and [609.78] Adam: things and mapping and yeah and i think each application as the technology becomes [615.7] Adam: properly convincing that each application will come on stream one after the other now video or [621.62] Adam: you know the first thing was making films because that's completely under a pilot's control [625.94] Adam: and not that many people are doing it that surveying which involves a certain amount of [630.5] Adam: automation is you know coming next and that and now you can start to see cleverer things that [637.94] Adam: require more of the computer coming next and i know that the people trying to create flying [643.62] Adam: uh defibrillators that can arrive at a scene to help rescue someone um yeah that's been around [650.82] Adam: for a couple years well it's been a while the the idea but that's because uh the kid who came up [656.66] Adam: with the idea did did a press release first and the work second jack's gonna hate me but the star [661.86] Jae: of the show of the nab 2016 by someone apparently they they rated was the metree 600 as in for being [667.94] Jae: able to out of the box carry a red epic camera you know i had some serious lifting power for [673.86] Jae: cinematography and videography work you know so i suppose there's so many different ways that [679.78] Jae: they're just getting better and more efficient to do these things though so it's exciting that's [684.74] Adam: so describe the 600 because i've um been after the loop for a week wasn't yeah well um it's a [691.78] Jae: hexacopter which is the old metreeze was the uh it was a quad copter yeah exactly um uh i think [699.22] Jae: they're showcasing their a3 uh flight controller oh yeah the a3 looks really cool yeah and the [705.7] Jae: redundancy they've you can essentially add to it uh lightbridge 2 i don't know the specs of it [710.34] Jae: really i haven't actually had a chance to look at it once this uh week but it's aimed at the [715.14] Jae: professional video market you know and essentially why they're at the nab in vegas right now well i [721.62] Adam: i mean i don't yeah i have no idea what lightbridge 2 would offer over lightbridge 1 but is that [726.18] Frank: going to be 1080 light i would imagine it's 1080p up to five kilometers distance there you go right [732.58] Jae: here at some point you'd want the high output from these cameras that are supposedly flying [739.94] Jae: with a gimbal to uh but i think that can take the whole handheld gimbal setup so yeah it's [746.66] Frank: taking the whole um ronin mx gimbal when they launched the ronin they did an amazing you know [755.06] Adam: single shot i don't know if you ever saw the youtube but it's well worth looking up um one of [761.22] Adam: the you know one of these videos where someone who moves shots and goes indoors and outdoors [766.02] Adam: and upstairs and all sorts of things um just with never never cutting um and i was just wondering [773.78] Adam: if they can just hook the ronin on and then have it fly off for a single shot that comes through [778.5] Adam: the house in the in the hand control of the camera operator and then he ducks under the blades hooks [785.54] Adam: hit on the drone and watch it disappear that would be fantastic i've yeah i had i think i've seen [791.78] Adam: something like that there's a it's a whole movie called is it victoria an hour and a half single [798.42] Frank: shot there was there was one i've seen that sort of showed the behind the scenes for a shot like [803.38] Frank: that yes well they were sort of sticking it down the rope and all sorts of things yes i think that [807.86] Adam: that's probably it because yeah obviously gj are much more interested in you looking at the [811.86] Adam: behinds of the scenes for the um for the shot because the behind the scenes was hey look go [817.38] Jae: buy this well okay go actually did the one take multi-roader on a trolley and then flew out on [824.66] Jae: the video share uh for one of the music things i won't yeah and that's always that's quite an [830.66] Jae: achievable uh one yeah essentially i think that's what's going to happen you're going to get more [837.06] Jae: transitional shots from a ground to an aerial shot for movies and things i think more seamless [843.06] Jack: wasn't there an advert where they were like riding scooters and they were holding a dji [849.54] Jack: some you know there's two people in the scooters one was driving it one of them was sat [854.26] Jack: the other way around the scooter and they were driving along holding a [857.86] Jack: fan and and then they lifted it up and then flew it from there's a sort of transition between [864.5] Jack: like regular shot and then oh my god it can fly i think that's how they were doing it [871.14] Jack: i'm leaning into google it now i know um apparently that was you know really well [877.06] Jack: done but you know i don't know sorry sorry if i've killed it killed the conversation [883.38] Adam: i can talk about it's interesting the technical achievement of a film and the uh you know the [888.82] Adam: outcome or the sorry the you know the effect of it it's not always the same is it i'm trying to [895.38] Adam: think of a good example no there are too many examples of movies which look spectacular [901.94] Adam: and are rubbish jurassic park three so have you got that ready to play jack what not what do you [909.06] Jack: mean the the scooter advert no i was gonna say jurassic park no i don't oh yeah tony tony's not [917.22] Jack: here anymore i mean he is he's in the chat say hello tone but for those of us stuck up in london [924.74] Adam: uh has anything fun been happening in Brighton this week um no i think i'm going flying with [930.34] Jack: dan on saturday i think but um me and frank and nico went out this saturday or sunday [941.46] Jack: saturday yeah and did some team poop training yes we did you the team is that your team name [950.98] Jack: team poop yep yeah ed's also in it but he he's done no practicing i don't know whether he's even [958.02] Jack: found his quad at quad topia yet apparently it might have not ended up in the river [963.78] Jack: might not at the end of that yeah says says tony's gopro uh rest in peace [971.7] Adam: tony's gopro rest in pieces oh that's a tragic loss well somewhere in a field over Sussex you'll [979.3] Jae: probably find my gopro oh no my gopro has probably been washed out to France by now [986.18] Jack: no you you've got a run cam coming though yeah that'd be sweet lovely thanks so team poop wow [994.1] Jack: yeah we're trying to get sponsorship from the poo museum on the island right [999.7] Jack: not not like any financial sponsorship just you know we just want to have t-shirts with their [1005.06] Jack: lego on really yeah be like if we win you know like any if we get any fans we can give them [1012.18] Jack: free tickets or something they've still got to get to the eye of light but who knows [1017.46] Frank: i think it started more as a comment on our piloting skills i know i thought it might be [1022.82] Frank: that than your particular fascination then the national poo museum made the news quite a bit and [1029.86] Frank: then we thought well that would be a fantastic logo to have on some t-shirts or or if our one [1036.58] Jack: of our quads lands in poop we can then donate it take some bits yeah maybe that's it maybe you [1042.26] Jack: can retrieve poop for them maybe we can attach poop to our quads i feel like i want to draw an [1049.22] Adam: art for your t-shirt featuring um at the moment of poop down splashdown whatever you want to say [1057.38] Adam: um yeah well you know there's if it's your imagery you were the guys who went with team poop [1067.62] Frank: if you've seen the logo for the national poo museum it's it's quite a nice ligo i think uh [1073.54] Frank: no i can't say i have i'm pretty sure it's poomuseum.org um there we go nice off topic [1082.42] Frank: it's not moon mowers this week but it could be you know uh instead it's just poo yeah i think [1089.38] Adam: that's it hallmark of the episode seeing a logo i'm just saying it says national poo museum [1095.38] Jack: yeah it happens or something and have you have you written to them jack no i haven't i you know [1100.66] Jack: if it gets too close to international drone day i will be making a phone call during business hours [1106.82] Jack: have you looked from i'm hoping i'm hoping like an ambassador or a staff or [1111.14] Jack: some sort of poo museum representative will come and watch maybe you'll get a key ring [1116.42] Jack: i'd love it yeah we could add it to the prize for whoever wins we're not gonna win it feels [1122.5] Adam: a bit like the loser's prize doesn't it yes here's some poo in a bowl yeah yeah maybe that's what [1128.18] Adam: we have yeah we're gonna um i mean sorry i know we've drifted into it but you were saying it's [1135.38] Frank: in the news a lot well there was it was getting some coverage for existing because it's just [1142.02] Frank: opened or something yeah because i don't think it's actually its own museum at the moment [1148.1] Frank: it's uh an artist's well i think it's more of a hoarder's collection who's decided to make it [1156.58] Frank: into a bit of a exhibition i suppose if you live on the isle of white they're always [1161.62] Adam: tourists wandering around it seems i'm more of an isle of man kind of thing to me well they also [1166.58] Frank: want to get it as an exhibition that's going to tour the country obviously and i'm sure the cities [1172.26] Adam: of the uk will be proud to welcome all of this if you actually look into it it's actually quite [1178.58] Frank: clever i think i mean it covers all sorts of things from you know civil engineering biology [1184.74] Frank: up to aerospace on the international space station you know that's a lot of what they're [1189.3] Frank: doing is working all of that kind of stuff out so you mean that go under the big bang theory [1193.7] Jack: you built the toilet isn't real um all right joe joe are you are you trying to get me to save [1200.5] Jae: from this i think we should talk about drones i think we should talk about drones yeah definitely [1206.18] Jae: uh right well actually there is some big news that there's apparently some senate [1211.3] Jae: action in america going to ban all sort of homegrown drone action so i'm publicly [1218.74] Jack: senator who wants to do that yeah so i'm public enemy number one and your book is then going to [1224.82] Frank: be contraband exactly oh well that would be brilliant have you seen how well books do when [1231.3] Adam: they're banned yeah that's a good point you'd make a mint dear america please ban my book yeah [1239.06] Jack: it should not be allowed on your shelves uh yeah i uh fabby has been banging on he's like [1248.5] Jack: what do you think of the little b pro who's so i had a little look at the little b pros [1254.5] Jack: uh they're escs for anyone who cares uh so this is how we're gonna dangerously [1259.7] Jack: edge close to the esc episode but um yeah the little bees have released like the little [1270.66] Jack: b pros and all it is is that it has a different um chip on them um that runs at a faster faster [1283.62] Jack: rate so um uh the er rpm limit is around 200k whilst the um f three nine x is 360k [1301.54] Jack: er p.m so um basically with the new dys um v2s for the xm20s they run a lot smoother i've noticed [1312.74] Jack: totally different sound um the little bees are struggling to keep up with that and kind of get [1318.26] Jack: a bit choppy so i'm looking forward to trying to grab some of those little b pros now and at what [1325.86] Jack: point do they start catching on fire i don't know yet so of course you have to buy five of them [1332.82] Jack: by my recommendation is uh they're going to catch on fire six if you're going to really [1338.58] Jack: set light to them yeah and and uh that's about it really um yeah i've managed to put my quad [1346.18] Jack: back together somehow and uh touch wood everything appears to be working um so i'm now running a [1353.86] Jack: tornado bored on my alien and i'm pretty much halfway through the other alien with the um [1363.22] Adam: you say um you said back together jack what happened to it [1366.9] Jack: uh the bottom plate was the thin bottom plate and that had cracks in it [1374.5] Jack: and um i had like a really pathetic weedy little crash and that blew a load of diodes so um you'd [1383.62] Jack: plug it in the board to try and set fire to itself again this is a board i haven't paid [1388.9] Jack: money for it used to be bradders old um spf3 board and uh yeah it just used to have like a [1396.02] Jack: red hot glowing orange diode of death and basically that board's been killed about three times um [1406.26] Jack: loads of the headers have been ripped off it's kind of held together with glue it's got scorch [1410.66] Jack: marks all over it from where bradders had an ese fire and uh it was just time to let it go [1417.38] Jack: so i've whacked a tornado on there that i could never get working um so is that the motor lab [1423.22] Jack: tornado fc yeah yep that's right uh now it's old hat because we've got the cyclone now um you can't [1431.06] Jack: connect through it via um via via the b r heli suite so me direct soldering my eses to it wasn't [1441.7] Jack: a good idea so um yeah i'm i'm looking forward to breaking this really uh the sooner i break it the [1448.5] Jack: better because uh that means i can put uh little b pros on there and uh enjoy some motor pins and [1456.82] Jack: then eventually when uh uh you what is it impulse rc get some more uh psychones in stock i can put [1465.06] Jack: one of those on there and live a normal happy up-to-date life like everyone else jack do not [1471.22] Adam: be on fire i'm always on fire it sounds like you're taking a lot more safety precautions than usual [1478.18] Adam: other than other than doesn't already have exposed overheated parts other than [1483.38] Jack: cellotaping a fire extinguisher to my quad i don't know what else i can do because like for [1488.5] Jack: someone who fixes quads for other people a lot i have nothing but trouble for my own and it's not [1495.38] Jack: i'm not doing anything over complicated any i mean i've got a lot of i'm finally using the [1501.22] Jack: um open log on my quadcopter yeah um i haven't taken any of jay's advice which means uh using [1509.62] Jack: a bit of tape to keep the sd card in there um you know you're relying on luck right [1516.82] Jack: yeah pretty much and the fact that it's it just doesn't fit in there there's nowhere to put it so [1522.82] Jack: i've kind of like wedged it in there with a bit of foam tape and i you know and it's it's a [1528.26] Jack: ridiculous 32 gig card so you know like what kind of unless i want to like record every fly ever [1537.7] Jack: for the next 10 years i don't i until you lose the sd card yeah till yeah or land in a puddle of [1545.38] Jack: water um i'm looking forward to um frank turning a uh the rat's nest is is he's got he's got an old [1554.42] Jack: quad it's got a nays ref 5 we don't even know what version of clean flight it's got and it's got some [1563.22] Jack: oh what are they some escs yeah i think they're emacs esc so we're gonna like take a capacitor [1571.06] Jack: and a resistor off there put the bl heli suite on there they're not one shot compatible but we're [1576.66] Jack: going to see how a cheap quad back in the day how good you can bring it up to date now so um [1584.02] Jack: that's our mission i thoroughly enjoyed that weekend so we've kind of sent some benchmarks [1588.82] Jack: and some tests and we're going to try and make it as good as we can yeah it was it was a good day [1595.94] Frank: it was a good day for flying i think yeah which we've started to have a few more of which is nice [1602.66] Frank: yeah the weather's been cheering up anyone in london as me and adam are is this is not the [1610.66] Frank: weekend to be doing that because we have barack obama in town no flying at all nine o'clock this [1617.94] Frank: morning to half past 10 sunday evening absolutely no drone flying of any sort or you'll get very [1627.38] Adam: arrested very arrested very arrested presidents are super annoying when i was at uni we had um [1636.26] Adam: the g8 summit took place it was in birmingham and they landed the the two helical marine one and [1644.18] Adam: marine two next to where i was living because it was the nearest and then drove in the armored [1649.86] Adam: cart or wherever the thing was and we got thrown out of a pub by the special secret server [1656.18] Adam: because the president was going to go for a photo op and we didn't look you know photo op enough [1661.94] Adam: what me and my student buddies were physically were not quite physically but certainly [1666.66] Adam: made to feel extremely unwelcome by the secret service coerced yes that is that is complete [1674.74] Jack: horse i was very i was just what it's your own country you're allowed there you your mum [1684.1] Jack: spewed you out here you know you're not a criminal what can i say you know i just i don't look with [1690.58] Jack: look you know he yeah you should have charged him some t-tacks some overdue t-tacks [1700.18] Adam: and said you know in fairness if i it was bill clinton back then if i was him i probably wouldn't [1706.1] Jack: want any students in the background either yeah looking vicking away oh is that a plastic bag are [1713.78] Adam: you planning on taking down as yet oh yes all of my semtex in my plastic bag i don't do not go out [1720.98] Jack: with a plastic bag maybe that's what you guys should do oh we can't fly so we'll uh play with [1725.3] Frank: our plastic bags make a plastic bag kite this plastic bag well actually under the under the [1731.22] Frank: restrictions in london there's also no kite flying is nothing more than two kilograms meant to be up [1738.18] Frank: in the air pretty much that sounds a bit that's fine then what about that fad where you used to [1743.62] Jack: record on your phone and throw it up in the air is that more than if you get like a really old phone [1748.9] Adam: that's more than 2k new terrorist then you mean like an old car phone one of that yeah even even [1756.9] Jack: the knock here whatever it was weighed less than two kilos no fair enough yeah 144p 144p yeah [1768.34] Jack: video resolution oh yeah yeah yeah yeah that's like jay's first flying fpv experience [1778.42] Jae: this old phone attached oh you know what i had looked through some of my old ones [1782.9] Jae: just it was clunky how i did it but it's going back four years now pioneer my friend for five [1788.58] Jack: years yeah you had the vision um not to be a complete scaremonger but i've heard some rumors [1795.38] Jack: about um them clamping down on vtx um milliwatt lately and um i'm finding it very suspicious how [1804.26] Jack: some of the people who are running 25 milliwatt um now reminders of the regulations 25 milliwatt [1812.9] Jae: max on 5.8 gigahertz and um you all right yeah sorry don't worry and you were definitely [1820.82] Adam: i'm trying to keep you listener friendly guys [1826.66] Jae: anyway so you were saying jack that there's more people turning up 25 but i suppose 25 [1833.94] Jack: yeah wow well i've heard i've heard rumors of offcom you know flexing their muscles now [1841.78] Jack: well um how far does that get you i used to when i first started i used to run 25 milliwatts [1848.9] Jack: and i never found it problem i used to fly on my own and it wasn't till i showed up at summer's [1853.3] Jack: pond where people were running 600 and so forth uh tony uh you were one of them your little [1861.54] Jack: those allegations can't be proven now carry on yeah yeah yeah it's just all word of mouth um [1867.46] Jack: yeah uh i i'd switch on my 25 milliwatt and it was nothing but black screen like totally it was [1874.9] Adam: oh is that because of their interference like if they were on 25 would you've been fine [1879.62] Jack: uh yeah in theory as long as we're not in the same channel i wouldn't get any [1883.3] Jack: like multi-par thing or anything you know or channels closer together but [1887.46] Adam: if they're on 600 even on a different channel yeah totally it just absolutely causes some [1893.78] Jack: problems it doesn't matter yeah yeah totally it just totally the decibels drown out my um [1901.46] Adam: yeah my transmission so what you're saying is the uh offcomer probably right presumably more [1907.3] Jae: race events than larger form like larger events that that's the point they'd show up so they're [1912.26] Jae: not going to show up to clubs so i suppose where else they're going to catch them otherwise yeah [1917.46] Jack: i mean i think what i'm trying to talk about is vendors selling the uh yeah that's where they're [1924.34] Jack: going to try and clamp down yeah clamp down and i'm i'm wondering you know would that start leading [1929.54] Jack: into the border of like you import these things and they check through your packages and you know [1936.82] Jack: if they find an illegal milliwatt transmitter is it illegal to own one or is it just when you power [1943.14] Jae: it on it it's it's illegal to operate one operate one yeah so they've had um they've had quite a sort [1950.74] Adam: of generous campaign haven't they a knowledge spreading campaign off gone they showed up to [1957.22] Adam: the uk drone show and that kind of thing and they they were generally just trying to make people [1962.1] Adam: aware of the rules i think they their perception was that most people just bought the most powerful [1967.22] Adam: one because that's what they saw online and didn't know it was it not allowed yeah i mean you can [1973.06] Jae: maximize your output from a 25 milliwatt if you have a clean setup not running next to two big [1977.7] Jae: power lines and things like that you know it depends on how well you build it as to what [1982.26] Jack: yeah you get from i mean um you know the use of good antennas um and and good filtering uh helps [1992.26] Jack: um shielding your cables really helps um you know so making sure you're using all your ground points [1998.98] Jae: and everything what would be good is if they just said you know we'll meet you halfway you can have [2004.02] Jack: 200 and that's no more yeah well they made an exemption at the um nationals the BMFA nationals [2014.26] Jack: they had an exemption of 200 milliwatt for for the um the show and surprisingly i was um you know [2026.02] Jack: i was quite far away like i was over in the vendor section and um i could barely pick up a little [2033.3] Jack: glimpse and flicker now and again um on someone and they might have been a vortex running uh at 600 [2041.22] Jack: or i think doesn't the vortex run at 350 now or something really bizarre like that the vortex pro [2048.5] Jack: but um yeah i was like you know i could i barely they were quite far away but it was a good [2056.42] Jack: clear open field you know obviously there's a lot of interference with people on mobile phones and [2061.78] Adam: bluetooth but you know i was going to tone star in the chat is apologizing to jack for the 600 [2068.82] Jack: oh it's all right man just fine oh bless you don't have to you know you've learned the errors of your [2076.18] Jack: ways um brad's says they're they're poo uh the 25 milliwatt but we all it's not quite how we phrased [2086.66] Jack: no but apparently apparently we're we're all you know we're all limited to 25 milliwatt during the [2094.58] Jack: mini team mini air show event so that's very compliant of us yeah so i don't know you know [2102.18] Jack: but there was talk about raceband but i don't see any raceband frequencies because it was fat shark [2107.94] Jack: seven and farm wife and the other ones were boss cam one and i don't know something i don't know i [2114.82] Jack: don't pay any attention to boss cam so uh you don't need a raceband transmitter i don't think [2120.02] Jack: it's just pretty strange but you know i i found brad as you know come on come on and defend [2126.1] Jack: yourself but i i didn't find much problem with my 25 milliwatt you know i don't i don't know [2131.94] Jack: anyone else who's like used them he meant the lb pro the lb pro little bees pro [2140.82] Jack: oh what they're they're rubbish yes rubbish yes that was it brothers explain yourself [2150.18] Adam: actually i'm impressed with hardy he's um written or contributed to something which looks a lot like [2155.3] Adam: a physics essay harmonics offer carrier close to your own channel yes it was a bit strange that [2162.02] Frank: he said that because i've heard that offcom aren't even allowed to make that exemption [2168.02] Frank: because of uh how they have to be for the eu yeah commonization across all the eu they they [2174.98] Frank: have to pass it past everyone else first and no one's gonna say it because everyone else uses [2180.18] Frank: it for other things like internet bureaucracy yeah but you know on the other hand they would [2188.82] Frank: i from what i've heard you know they're not particularly bothered by it as long as you don't [2192.9] Frank: interfere with someone and so you know they're not going to waste their time trying to find it [2199.06] Adam: but yeah they've got other worries haven't they like yeah they've got trying to become [2204.34] Adam: lord high chiefs of the vbc and all sorts well it's a huge and weird agency they've got a lot [2212.58] Frank: to deal with you know there's a lot of signals going around the place and they got to try and [2216.82] Adam: keep up with everything but yeah but that's not that's only part of their remit they also have [2222.1] Adam: like tastes and standards and you know if people want to complain because they saw a boob before [2226.9] Adam: nine o'clock on some channels that you know it's crazy i mean it's a miracle we let you go somewhere [2233.38] Frank: so i'm just glad i don't have to have that job so you know if the if it means you know even though [2239.94] Frank: they have to keep up with their harmonization if they don't care then that's enough for me [2245.54] Adam: because i personally feel that i would be excellent at responding to complaints about [2249.14] Jack: broadcasting standards if you join offcom our friendship will be tested to the limits [2257.06] Adam: rather depends i might grant exemptions to all of my buddies and then spend a lot of time writing [2261.86] Adam: back saying no i thought this use of the offensive language in the children of television was entirely [2266.82] Jack: appropriate you monster it kind of reminds me of um anyone somewhere yeah i could i could just [2276.1] Jack: imagine you uh you know like the young ones if any of you can remember the young ones vivian [2281.3] Adam: storming through the good life being like no no actually yeah no vivian's probably the least [2287.54] Jack: unflattering character to me i know he's funny i like it you know um uh dan are you are you not [2298.9] Jack: interested in the little bees or are you not interested in lowering yourself to 25 milliwatt [2307.3] Jack: because i'll be very surprised if people do i have got i am so skeptical you know i don't think [2314.9] Jack: people are going to show up to the mini air show with 25 milliwatt i don't know i mean frank do you [2321.46] Adam: own 25 milliwatts imagine imagine no one will check care huh i said i imagine no one will check [2328.9] Adam: carefully because i think it could be really awkward and embarrassing if no one could fly [2332.74] Frank: yeah because also there's a thing of oh let's just change the sticker on it to say don't [2337.54] Frank: you find many what oh even if it says on it then you know will you have the gear to measure it [2345.78] Jack: well i mean someone can i mean immersion i see sell a device for measuring the milliwatts [2352.5] Frank: isn't that measuring radiated rather than but i mean not that it matters anyway but you get a [2357.78] Frank: rough idea it's all dependent on the antenna and yeah what you're saying what you're saying is [2364.18] Adam: if it's if the aircraft has been done properly you know the um there's no rf interference and [2369.94] Adam: you've got a good antenna um which nobody has dropped down any drains sorry jack um then [2377.3] Adam: you absolutely don't need any more than 25 and everyone else is just a loser yeah i think they [2383.46] Jae: must be able to screw straight onto the antenna to check it if you took your antenna off you'd [2388.02] Frank: measure direct so yeah you could uh but i just don't think the emergency one is is it don't know [2395.14] Jack: i think you might be able to run it in series with it maybe okay maybe i don't know you know i [2402.9] Jack: can't i i saw one for roughly a few hours with no instructions whatsoever you know and i i did some [2412.74] Jack: mild testing of um the fx uh and uh the fx uh vtx you know the one with the seven nine five t [2425.06] Frank: the one that's switchable by solder tabs or something yeah it's got a little wire and you [2431.62] Jack: can cut it and i i tested that and it came in at nine milliwatts really really way under the [2440.02] Jack: wow um i won't be cutting my wire then uh no you want to cut your wire that raises it up to [2447.78] Jack: the two hundred does it not it says the other way around yeah okay uh i i i [2456.42] Jack: i say otherwise but um there you go i uh because they ship out at 25 milliwatt [2464.58] Frank: you cut that wire to make it higher well i've been flying with other people that have been [2472.1] Frank: running 200 milliwatt and i haven't been crushed so i'm pretty sure mine's at 200 [2479.38] Frank: milliwatt and i haven't modified it hmm anyway that's not the most interesting chat there is [2485.38] Adam: um but what i was gonna say i think we certainly covered it fairly thoroughly now yeah yeah um the [2492.1] Frank: only thing i would say is that from the experience at the events like white chapel [2497.14] Frank: the only thing that really gets on people's nerves is the 3d vtxes the ones that have the [2506.66] Frank: the two cameras so that a nerd cam and that sort of stuff so it's got two cameras and basically [2511.86] Frank: two vtxes and in one board and it's transmitting on two frequencies at the same time but they're [2518.9] Frank: really broadband and so you even if they're on the correct frequencies that they've been allocated [2527.06] Frank: it just stomps on everyone and everyone gets very angry with them and they have to go sit [2531.3] Frank: in the corner and and cry so if anyone is going to the mini air show who has got one of those [2539.54] Frank: i would recommend maybe having a backup that isn't one of those yeah because you are worse than Hitler [2548.35] Adam: i mean that's quite a long way i mean yeah [2552.99] Adam: they can be fun on their own but they're not good for events maybe you are worse than silvia [2557.39] Jack: burlesco me yeah uh tony's corrected me my 25 was 18 milliwatt i do apologize [2566.03] Jack: i do apologize i forgot it was a while ago is that has time star been in any races or anything [2575.63] Jack: no and do you know what i'm slightly concerned about if anyone can like fill me in is that [2580.59] Jack: you know how like last year we had several attempts to qualify for the nationals [2587.47] Jack: we haven't had that many this year have we and are we going to andrew maybe maybe not [2596.43] Frank: no i'm pretty sure there will be um i will try and get the details okay jay since when did [2603.71] Jack: producer frank become andrew again i don't know well yeah frank i was expecting him you [2608.75] Jack: know like when you introduce him i'm hoping that he'll just go don't do drugs kids and that's it [2613.71] Frank: you know like talk to frank if he is an addiction and we have to talk about it yeah very good is [2619.31] Adam: an addiction which you can take uh you know to supplant or maybe wean yourself off heroin [2626.11] Adam: i don't know it definitely helped me it's cheaper than heroin a bit um although actually that's [2632.59] Adam: only partly true um it's you know different and it gets you out meeting real people [2640.51] Jack: yeah and you probably won't catch anything well definitely got more friends [2645.63] Adam: yeah jack's got more friends now than when he was a heroin addict yeah [2650.83] Adam: were you a heroin addict jay no okay there you go but the point stands even if it's not based [2656.59] Jack: entirely in fact jay yes um i i've been trying to watch your streams from your phantom [2667.87] Jae: oh yeah well i haven't actually started one up yet because i didn't have internet [2672.03] Jae: but did they did they come live because i set it up to just stream it i'm very disappointed did [2678.67] Adam: you do a live stream from um at the gi thing i actually well no the history goes i started [2684.91] Jae: doing it to record my flights because i didn't have a dbr i wanted to see where my signal was [2689.23] Jae: cut now so i just thought well at the same time i could upload it to youtube so i did uh just an [2695.07] Adam: experiment see how it worked yeah somewhere there's a little clip of my old flat because [2700.35] Adam: i just accidentally turned on broadcast while i had it you know for testing yeah it's it's it's [2708.03] Jae: does it really have any use not really but surely it's conflicting frequencies [2713.23] Jae: no no i well it's digital isn't it so you can do more with your bandwidth so sweet [2722.19] Adam: good point how many yeah well they'll all be completely compliant won't they there's no way [2727.79] Jack: the they'll be breaching the unless tony finds a bit where you can stick the screwdriver isn't [2735.39] Adam: that right tony you little there was um news article saying star says he's qualified second [2741.95] Frank: at london for the uh yeah yeah so the first qualifying event was the white chapel event [2749.95] Frank: last at the end of last year then the second one was the thunder drone event at the beginning of [2758.59] Frank: the month and where was that i'm trying to find that those details out but all the information [2768.43] Frank: uh it's so where is it so i see that was girls i think thunder drone info was the thunder drone [2778.75] Frank: event i believe and i'm still trying it doesn't say not easily anyway where it was uh badge worth [2788.19] Frank: arena uh the s26 to q u i never just south of bristol there we go uh if you want any more [2797.07] Frank: events they as they're coming up they will be listed on the british fpv racing association [2806.19] Frank: website which is bfpv rl.org but at the moment it's it's a bit of a work in progress because [2814.59] Frank: people are still organizing them and so there's not a particular list at the moment but if you [2822.03] Adam: keep checking there that's where it would be qualified and they're still being organizing [2827.07] Frank: the qualifying event because there were the two that were already organized um but the rest are [2834.91] Adam: not yeah but what i mean what if people go along to those other events and are really really [2839.23] Adam: brilliant is tonestar going to fall down the list or is he fine no he's he's definitely qualified [2846.11] Adam: he has a place hey okay he has a place so it sounds like it should be you know they should [2852.59] Adam: know what's going to happen it just sounds weird to me i've been uh saving one little bit of news [2857.07] Jae: for jack because i know how much you come on let's have it right well did you know uh the chinese [2862.35] Jae: government's basically requesting dji to hand over data they collect from all these uh dji [2868.03] Jae: products around the world flying and basically hand it over for intelligence services and it may [2872.91] Jae: actually affect other countries going forward they may start collecting data from everyone's [2877.23] Jae: flights so if you think about it if you have a cached copy of uh imagery and things you can [2883.79] Jae: have spy cameras in another country essentially wow yeah it's brilliant i think i'll be buying [2890.35] Jae: american from now fly home fly home so well thanks everyone for tuning in it's been a pleasure [2899.79] Jae: it's been good fun yeah jack jack's on holiday next week maybe so you might not get jack who [2905.47] Jae: knows but uh jack did we just obsess now he wants a holiday we might let him have a holiday [2911.39] Jae: we might he's good jack if you're good yeah if you're good you might let you have it [2916.99] Jae: wow thank you for tuning in to let's drone out telemetry last
