[222.36] Adam: And I think it was a bit of a surprise when Jack and I were up at the stand
[227.8] Adam: at the drone show when Sarah came up and interviewed us.
[232.32] Sara: That was almost a year ago now.
[233.6] Sara: It seemed like a long time ago.
[236.2] Adam: It's not even a year because it was December, wasn't it?
[238.64] Sara: Yeah. Well, yes, it's almost.
[241.16] Sara: Yeah. Looking out of the window.
[243.16] Sara: I'm already thinking about the next December.
[245.56] Sara: You know, next next show, next UK drone show.
[248.04] Sara: So maybe that's why it's kind of on my mind already.
[251.0] Adam: So and honestly, that was the first time I had heard of drone mines.
[254.76] Adam: And yet there you were with really lovely tote bags,
[257.48] Adam: which I still use when I go shopping.
[259.2] Sara: Yeah, that was our idea to to give away some bags because we thought
[262.8] Sara: people always got all those leaflets and then, you know,
[265.8] Sara: and you never know where to put them.
[268.28] Sara: But yeah, that's really the first kind of big event we went to.
[270.56] Sara: We actually went to one in London before the UAV commercial show.
[274.72] Sara: But that was very, very small event and and didn't have that many
[280.44] Sara: that many people from interested just in hobby flying.
[284.52] Sara: So that's how we were.
[285.76] Sara: And then we had our actual stand on UK drone show.
[288.36] Sara: And it was really interesting to see all those people who
[292.4] Sara: wanting to pick up the hobby and had lots of questions
[295.84] Sara: or maybe if you're feeling going commercial, but couldn't really find enough advice
[299.12] Sara: or everything is kind of confusing.
[301.52] Sara: I think all the schools and you're not sure really what you need.
[304.6] Sara: Some people think they need a license to fly as a hobby
[307.84] Sara: or they're not sure which one to choose.
[310.36] Sara: There's so many.
[311.64] Sara: And so that's that's what kind of what we try to help people with
[314.88] Sara: and to give them some advice and and help them to choose the drone
[319.24] Sara: depending on what they use it for.
[322.2] Adam: Awesome. So so tell us a bit about how you got started doing that.
[325.56] Adam: What made you want to fill YouTube with it?
[329.4] Sara: Well, and Jonathan, who started John Minds,
[332.32] Sara: he's already been running an aerial photography company
[336.12] Sara: for a number of years before and before drones really were called that.
[342.36] Sara: And he and he asked for some helps and then there I was
[346.64] Sara: and then just kind of we got busier and busier.
[349.96] Sara: So that's actually another interesting aspect that
[355.2] Sara: we we both work, you know, for aerial photography company or filming.
[360.48] Sara: And we use that experience to help people as well
[363.68] Sara: if they need any advice about commercial flying.
[367.72] Sara: And he wants to share that knowledge.
[370.2] Sara: And I help that.
[371.16] Sara: And, yeah, we mostly just do YouTube videos when we when we can.
[375.04] Sara: So this week was pretty busy, so it didn't do any.
[377.72] Sara: And and we've got Facebook.
[380.08] Sara: You can find the drawings on their Twitter, Instagram,
[384.44] Sara: now even on Skype and not sure that other be used.
[388.92] Sara: And and, yeah, so you can communicate with us there
[392.92] Sara: and mostly on the forum as well.
[394.96] Sara: So all the videos that we do that you can see on the channel
[398.92] Sara: are all explained on the forum.
[400.36] Sara: And that's how we can interact with other pilots and with us as well,
[404.96] Sara: because we kind of believe in that openness.
[406.88] Sara: So if you do anything interesting in your video,
[410.44] Sara: we try to explain how we did it and we we open about anything we do.
[415.16] Sara: So same as an editing and just answer any questions people might have.
[422.72] Adam: And what sort of people do you or what sort of questions do you get the most?
[426.72] Adam: Because, you know, Tony, who's looking down quite quite seriously
[430.6] Adam: into the camera right now, he's he's very much a racer.
[433.68] Sara: No one's falling asleep, I think.
[435.36] Adam: So that's good. No, no.
[436.96] Jack: We like the sound of your voice.
[438.84] Jack: I say I'm having an alert comparison.
[440.84] Jack: Phantom 3 Pro, Phantom 4.
[443.32] Sara: I'm just on your yes. Yeah.
[445.6] Sara: Well, my favorite video that's in there, it's called
[448.32] Sara: and it's the unique Q500 that we are landing on water.
[452.76] Adam: And I was going to ask you about that one, especially,
[455.4] Adam: because did it land on water? Yes, it did.
[458.44] Sara: It landed on water. It took from water.
[460.4] Sara: We actually switched the motors off
[463.44] Sara: on the river, on the like really crazy river.
[466.32] Sara: And then and then took off again.
[468.36] Sara: You need to stop that thing that when you kind of you kind of drops about 30,
[472.44] Sara: just have to stop the motor and then what's doing harder.
[475.48] Sara: Yeah, basically, it was very easy.
[477.96] Sara: We just attached those kind of foam floats and leggings.
[482.6] Sara: Yeah. And and it was all
[485.4] Sara: I was a couple of kind of testing her to find the center of gravity
[490.84] Sara: for it, because it's kind of disturbing.
[493.48] Sara: And then it's and it worked and we kind of had a boat as well
[497.68] Sara: that we attached a landing pad on and landed a drum on that as well.
[502.56] Adam: I use the same foam stuff.
[504.24] Adam: I know well, because when I first smashed up a
[508.68] Adam: massive hex I built and it had fairly thin carbon fiber legs and even
[514.68] Adam: I was going to say even a good landing,
[516.08] Adam: but I don't think ever really got a good landing mine.
[519.56] Adam: It would tend to break the legs.
[521.72] Adam: So I ended up putting those things on and never even occurred to me
[524.52] Adam: to try and float it on water.
[526.56] Jack: I do it fire death.
[529.16] Adam: What I will say is that I would say that they definitely contributed
[532.56] Adam: to the thing being blown away because there's a huge sail area to them.
[537.44] Adam: So when you get up further, they do catch the wind.
[540.08] Sara: They really light.
[541.04] Sara: So I think that's what kind of makes you think they would be perfect for the
[544.04] Sara: world. I mean, that's really what I think of them when I saw them.
[547.88] Sara: I didn't think of any pipe.
[549.28] Sara: So it's just like in being cute and think that would be perfect
[552.16] Sara: because it's just you can actually fit the the legs of the unique.
[556.12] Sara: But yeah, we we use the unique drum for any kind of experiments.
[561.44] Adam: So we do it because you're saying it's sort of disposable.
[566.04] Sara: Well, we've got two of them and the easier to kind of
[569.8] Sara: move high into it, we've been like 12 volts and
[575.08] Sara: and it's just easy to open it and experiment on.
[578.08] Sara: And. But we did we did.
[581.2] Sara: What did we do? We did put some
[584.36] Sara: oh, we did a police police drone for an April's Fool.
[587.6] Sara: It was like a joke where we had a speaker.
[590.88] Sara: We had a speaker and some like crazy police lights on the unique.
[596.08] Sara: And it was really loud.
[598.0] Sara: We used actually the
[600.56] Sara: and the sound bites from Grand Theft Auto, you know, like
[604.88] Sara: so we had the unique drum shouting all those crazy phrases.
[608.68] Sara: And it was pretty it was really good.
[610.96] Sara: Those sound people, unfortunately, didn't get the joke.
[613.92] Sara: And I think they thought it was serious.
[616.24] Adam: Did you use it to terrorize real people?
[618.4] Sara: No, no, it's like in the middle of nowhere.
[621.64] Sara: And it's tempting. It's tempting. Yeah.
[625.08] Adam: Although obviously it'd be very naughty to do things like that.
[628.28] Sara: Yes. Well, yeah, safety, absolutely safety.
[631.56] Sara: Everything we do, we try to follow the safety
[634.44] Sara: and validation on the forum when people share their videos.
[637.84] Sara: We always try to point out if there's the flying over the roads or buildings
[642.92] Sara: and too close to people always try to point that out and follow the
[647.56] Sara: regulations, especially in UK.
[649.72] Sara: And I would always recommend to send people to like see
[653.44] Sara: the website and any kind of other blogs and just to keep
[660.56] Sara: interacting with other pilots.
[663.04] Sara: Because it's I mean, it's very important that we all support each other
[667.2] Sara: because the regulations and legislations
[670.96] Sara: and and general public awareness is not catching up with technology.
[677.08] Sara: So if we all kind of maintain a good name for drones,
[681.16] Sara: then it would be just easy for everyone, whether it's a racing hobby
[685.56] Sara: that you enjoying or just more aerial photography.
[690.92] Adam: Yeah, I think we definitely agree with that sentiment here.
[693.48] Adam: Is it always an ambassador, aren't you, for the aircraft?
[696.84] Adam: Jack's. Jack taught me that.
[699.96] Adam: I mean, I knew it already, but Jack actually does it quite well.
[704.28] Adam: Well, except on the air show.
[708.24] Jack: What happened at the air show?
[711.96] Jack: I'm not saying anything.
[714.76] Adam: Yeah, nothing.
[715.64] Adam: Nothing happened to the air show.
[717.76] Adam: We absolutely didn't.
[719.2] Adam: Neither Jack nor I said anything that in any way upset anyone.

[809.36] Jack: Are you keeping up with it?

[811.92] Jack: Or are you finding new stuff?
[815.04] Sara: Personally, that's like extremely difficult because well,
[818.8] Sara: there's always something new.
[820.0] Sara: And I'm not sure if it's an expression.
[823.08] Sara: But definitely there is that pressure.
[825.64] Sara: And I mean, it's exciting at the same time, like, for instance,
[829.48] Sara: there was a lot of like bars and publicity about the Phantom 4
[833.56] Sara: and the phone age coming out and a lot of kind of
[836.56] Sara: and people discussing that and which was better.
[841.0] Sara: And the same as if
[844.12] Sara: whether it's smartphones or computers, there's always something new.
[848.24] Sara: And people, you know, manufacturers, they want you to buy the new things.
[851.8] Sara: And I think if you you have to kind of have a common sense as well about that,
[855.72] Sara: like, what is it that you actually need?
[857.8] Sara: Like, if you think about it, Phantom 3 Pro, for instance, photography
[861.72] Sara: is still great if you are just a hobby flyer.
[864.72] Sara: Or if there's something after if there's something new from DJI
[868.72] Sara: similar to like being inspired, which is great.
[872.12] Sara: And if something new comes out, then maybe that's enough for you.
[877.16] Sara: But there's definitely something exciting things like
[880.04] Sara: maybe digital zoom on drones and obviously they're going
[884.16] Sara: getting smaller and smaller and the light rich technology
[888.76] Sara: becoming more affordable.
[890.44] Sara: So hopefully we'll see that on the racing drones, maybe,
[894.16] Sara: and having the better quality of the video down links.
[898.08] Sara: That's like exciting, big things.
[900.64] Sara: And maybe, you know, HD, no lag.
[903.72] Sara: Like the traffic.
[904.36] Adam: We were talking a couple of weeks ago about that on the show.

[922.44] Tony: Yeah, but you've got to remember, if you get HD feed,
[925.0] Tony: you don't need a GoPro on top to your saving £350 there.

[941.0] Adam: and being responsible about the rules in the UK.
[943.16] Adam: Does that mean you get to travel and shoot elsewhere?
[946.96] Sara: Oh, no, no, I was just sort of.
[949.4] Sara: Well, I think we just because we all are connected, I think.
[953.16] Sara: And sometimes it's easy to forget that people might be in different countries
[956.92] Sara: and they might be kind of different knowledge or awareness and.
[961.68] Sara: Different ideas, and it's difficult to speak for the whole world, like I wouldn't
[969.04] Sara: want that responsibility because there's different regulations
[972.84] Sara: and it's probably just best to always check locally.
[975.44] Sara: And same as if you before you fly, you know,
[978.04] Sara: you check where you're going to fly and see what's in the area.
[981.04] Sara: And I would say if you go on holiday with your drone,
[984.16] Sara: I would obviously follow, you know, check everything,
[987.0] Sara: make sure that you can go there and fly wherever you're thinking of going.
[992.68] Tony: Hmm. I took my phantom to grace and I had no problems.
[996.12] Tony: And I think, Juniper, you took your.
[998.36] Adam: Yeah, I took the inspired a couple of times and I came home
[1002.92] Adam: having been really careful around the motorway
[1007.04] Adam: and turned the telly on.
[1008.6] Adam: Well, not turn the telly on.
[1010.12] Adam: My my girlfriends, they always have the TV on and grease.
[1013.76] Adam: It's really weird.
[1016.04] Adam: And there was a report about a kid who'd been flying
[1019.64] Adam: in pretty much the same place with his phantom flying over the motorway,
[1023.36] Adam: swooping around, up and down, round a bridge, going really close
[1027.32] Adam: to doing something you definitely shouldn't.
[1029.76] Adam: And they were just saying, oh, isn't it cool drones?
[1032.88] Adam: There was nothing about it being illegal or anything like that.
[1035.88] Sara: But did you get any sort of interaction with the public members when he was there?
[1040.48] Adam: Yeah, yeah, they all want to go.
[1043.28] Adam: Basically, they're all excited and interested.
[1046.2] Adam: The only person who's looked forward is my girlfriend.
[1049.2] Sara: All right.
[1051.8] Adam: Well, she's the one who has to fill the questions because, you know,
[1054.48] Adam: I need to translate it.
[1055.68] Sara: Oh, well, that was looking at my question.
[1057.24] Sara: Like if you're if you're flying and you've got someone,
[1059.96] Sara: I don't know, trying to talk to you, it's only it's not.
[1063.04] Sara: It's already quite distracting.
[1064.6] Sara: I think if it's if it's in your language.
[1067.52] Sara: So if it's if you know, it can be quite stressful, I think.
[1071.68] Adam: So you fly a lot near.
[1074.68] Adam: Well, you're based in your we would all think of as the north.
[1078.88] Sara: Yes, yes, mostly mostly around around Yorkshire.
[1082.28] Sara: So it's actually great.
[1084.52] Sara: You know, I have all that space and seaside further than you buy.
[1088.64] Sara: North Yorkshire more.
[1089.56] Sara: So it's really open and there's plenty of places to fly.
[1093.24] Sara: I'm really lucky.
[1096.76] Adam: I think I think I'm pretty jealous about that.
[1099.8] Adam: Now I'm in London, so it's impossible, really.
[1104.08] Adam: But Jack tones are down in Brighton
[1108.4] Adam: and there's there's a lot of flying there.
[1111.64] Adam: Andrew's in London as well.
[1113.2] Adam: I am. You got to build, though, didn't you?

[1121.04] Sara: Yeah, it's a lot of a lot of, you know,
[1126.92] Sara: drone pilots run in Yorkshire, actually.
[1128.8] Sara: So we went we went a few times and we always meet people
[1132.28] Sara: and got like a media database of people around us that fly.
[1138.4] Sara: I mean, that would be the kind of the the drain
[1141.84] Sara: to be able to meet up with people locally
[1144.28] Sara: and and have a better kind of networking
[1148.24] Sara: a structure for for everyone to meet up.
[1150.32] Sara: And I know they're like flying clubs, but.
[1155.72] Adam: Have you ever been to like a flying club,
[1157.36] Adam: an old you know, old school RC flying club?
[1159.76] Sara: No, no, maybe I should.
[1162.12] Sara: I know there's actually an event on this Saturday
[1165.64] Sara: and around, you know, there's a fast lad shop near Leeds
[1170.96] Sara: and they we kind of go there sometimes
[1174.16] Sara: and they've got leaflets there about that.
[1175.96] Sara: But no, I should. I should.
[1177.8] Sara: I'd like to do that.
[1178.72] Sara: I mean, same as I'd like to get more into racing.
[1181.24] Sara: And I was kind of a bit
[1184.96] Sara: well worried you might be like really bored

[1188.32] Sara: because I think you're kind of very technical about racing,
[1191.12] Sara: which is really fascinating.
[1193.56] Adam: They are. I still love the cameras.
[1198.12] Adam: Tony, Tony's Tony's little eyes lit up, as you mentioned.
[1203.16] Sara: Well, like, like, that's what maybe
[1205.48] Sara: maybe there's anyone out there who's listening
[1207.68] Sara: and is like willing to travel to Yorkshire,
[1209.96] Sara: leave in Yorkshire and just.

[1266.8] Adam: And what are her tips to get to enjoy it more?
[1270.2] Adam: From a girl's perspective?
[1272.04] Sara: So about racing,
[1273.96] Sara: drone racing, I don't know why would girls not like it?

[2550.43] Dom: Actually, we did we did sit back and let people fly very fast,
[2555.43] Dom: reasonably heavy objects around a very expensive video screen
[2559.15] Dom: without without doing much more than turning away and going,

[2563.11] Dom: And I think that actually that trust was
[2568.67] Dom: that was really rewarded because I think everybody actually,
[2572.75] Dom: although they took it to the edge in some cases, everybody flew safely
[2575.79] Dom: and everybody had a lot of fun actually flying at the event.
[2578.91] Dom: And one of the things I picked up that I was really keen on for the air show
[2583.39] Dom: was that flyers could fly.
[2585.67] Dom: And I don't know any flyers that came to that event
[2588.11] Dom: that didn't get something in the air for a bit, which was really good.
[2591.39] Dom: So so that was cool.
[2593.31] Dom: Anyway, I'm rambling.

[2596.87] Dom: But that's very unfair voice of doom. We love that.

[2631.15] Dom: then it would turn it into a fad, which will be as big as Red Bull
[2635.95] Dom: or ESPN are interested in it for their own strategic aims.
[2640.19] Dom: But once they move on to the next hoverboard or the next flying car
[2643.99] Dom: or whatever it is,
[2645.47] Dom: the core drone industry needs to have something sustainable.
[2648.19] Dom: And it's always worth keeping an eye on the organic sort of,
[2652.83] Dom: you know, base end of what what the people who are selling drones
[2656.75] Dom: into the racing community can sustain themselves.
[2659.03] Dom: And I think Mini Air Show is a testament to the fact that it's big enough.
[2662.71] Dom: It's got enough community interest just in its peer group
[2666.35] Dom: that everyone can get to have together and have a really good time flying,
[2670.63] Dom: which is cool. That was good.

[2912.03] Sara: not sure what something not working or doesn't do like you want it.
[2914.91] Adam: And then you had to do nothing, nothing tragic, expensive or smash.
[2919.95] Sara: No, no, that's pretty, pretty boring in that respect.
[2923.47] Adam: That's that is disappointing.
[2924.87] Adam: Did you you tested a drone that was also a car?
[2928.55] Sara: Oh, yeah, that was just like a silly little toy.
[2930.67] Sara: And it was actually really good fun.

[2935.31] Sara: But it was the way it was actually was pretty good.
[2937.75] Sara: And compared to some other kind of toy drones out there, it flew really well.

[2951.75] Sara: So it would be great to have something and something on that kind of better
[2955.95] Sara: scale, maybe, maybe even better video and things like that.
[2960.99] Sara: So there's some interesting projects and we've got lots of ideas about what

[2973.47] Sara: What we can do, especially with the unique Q500, because that's the one we can

[3034.99] Sara: And then probably some of the aerial videos, like there's a video there

[3040.99] Sara: And that's like one of the pictures I send you.
[3043.15] Sara: And yeah, it's because like the other thing that we try to do is try to promote
[3048.11] Sara: is if you were creating some kind of video, even if it's a race, like from a racing
[3053.27] Sara: event, it's to include different different shots and using different cameras.
[3056.91] Sara: So with aerial video, that would be, you know, different ground shots and
[3060.91] Sara: photography, just to really tell a story.
[3063.23] Sara: And because really, like a drone is almost like you, you having this creative
[3068.79] Sara: freedom of having almost a different dimension.
[3072.19] Sara: But that's sometimes not enough.
[3074.03] Sara: And that Humberbridge video.
[3076.75] Adam: Yeah, the still from that video is up on the chat screen now.

[3083.75] Sara: just the camcorder that we did.
[3085.67] Sara: And I think it's got a time lapse in it as well.

[3151.67] Sara: And that was kind of interesting.
[3152.99] Sara: And we did spoke to a number of different people and kind of put it together

[3162.15] Sara: And I really like that video because I think it's really important at those things.
[3168.23] Sara: And I think not many, not enough people know that about the commercial side.
[3173.67] Adam: Dom, if he was still here, would tell you that the room where you could learn how
[3178.79] Adam: to go about getting commercial training, which is at the drone show, it was indoors,
[3184.03] Adam: but it was packed the whole time, apparently, while we were all out having fun.
[3186.95] Sara: Yeah. Well, like I said, when we went to the interest day about going commercial
[3192.47] Sara: was was really, really big.
[3195.83] Sara: And well, while I was saying to people is
[3201.15] Sara: that it's just more than flying, taking pictures and videos.
[3205.07] Sara: That's only a small fraction of what you do because the post-processing
[3210.35] Sara: and communication with clients or whether it's other pilots.
[3214.19] Sara: It's a really big part.
[3216.83] Adam: Yeah, stepping into the community.
[3219.19] Adam: Speaking speaking of stepping into the community,
[3221.71] Adam: I'm going to take us back to December and the drone show.
[3225.55] Adam: The evening after the first night,
[3228.11] Adam: we went to the bar in the hotel in the middle of the NEC area and.
[3236.59] Adam: So we the drone show wasn't the only event on.
[3239.27] Adam: I think there was a clothes show.
[3241.47] Adam: We were outside drinking and smoking.
[3243.59] Adam: And we bumped into a girl who looked at us,
[3248.51] Adam: Jack, especially, with a sort of you don't really look like your clothes show.

[3255.59] Adam: And Jack was very excited to explain
[3260.03] Adam: that we were here about drones and then told her to wait there a second
[3264.03] Adam: and rushed off to get the drone equipment with a plan to go to get a drink.

[3270.91] Adam: Yeah, I still think that's why that's what we're asking.
[3274.39] Adam: What should Jack have done instead of going to get the drone?
