Dom and Cem discuss the upcoming Formula FPV event, Tony announces the winner of the Rotor Riot Giveaway, and Frank does a field recording from the Queens Cup event.

[2.16] SpecialK?: Let's drone out
[5.2] Tony: This episode is sponsored by Radio C for all your drone related needs home of the drone labs batteries
[11.48] Frank: Good evening and welcome to let's drone out
[17.19] Frank: I'm Andrew and with me here tonight. I have Tony
[22.51] Frank: What's up? Time's the one. I have Dom
[26.07] Dom: You're a voice to
[29.19] Frank: And
[30.59] Frank: At some point. I don't know if he's still muted or not. We have Jim
[38.66] Dom: He's here, but he is muted. Yeah
[43.9] Dom: There we go like all having quorum
[46.7] Frank: Yeah
[48.22] Frank: We're gonna try something a bit different tonight
[51.46] Frank: Hopefully if this all goes to plan completely. I
[55.66] Frank: will be able to play a a
[59.38] Frank: bit of a
[62.46] Frank: Pre-recorded session, which will be interesting
[67.19] Tony: We've got Ed's Ed's birthday coming up Ed's birthday bash at Hidden Valley or this weekend
[73.47] Dom: Yes, getting busy. He's been every weekend down there. We've had we've had flying since gonna be I think seven weeks straight
[80.59] Dom: by the end of by by by the end of August
[85.07] Tony: That's really good. Yeah
[88.43] Frank: And of course when we were at Hidden Valley last
[91.11] Frank: well when I was at Hidden Valley last was actually back at team in the air show and that was run by
[96.51] Frank: rotor riot and
[98.35] Frank: Last weekend. I was over at Queen's Cup
[109.55] Frank: Such a fail
[112.51] Frank: Yeah, rotor racing
[114.59] Frank: Two RRs both FPV related
[118.23] Frank: Sorry
[119.31] Frank: Yeah, then last weekend was Queen's Cup, which was also run by rotor racing. But yeah, so it was
[127.47] Frank: It was a really good weekend and
[130.59] Dom: Go on tell us what happened who is there?
[134.51] Frank: So the Queen's Cup is
[137.63] Frank: the fourth oldest
[140.07] Frank: Sporting trophy in the world or something and it for the past
[145.55] Frank: 40 years or something. It's been for the Queen's Cup air race challenge, which is you know, very pithy and and good name for it
[154.27] Frank: and
[156.11] Frank: so it's been for different things like cross-country gliding and hot air ballooning and
[161.07] Frank: this year the
[163.99] Frank: Royal Aero Club
[165.83] Frank: Gave it to the BFP VRA for the Queen's Cup challenge FPV race
[172.87] Frank: so
[174.67] Frank: there was all the
[176.27] Frank: well, a lot of the big names in UK FPV racing, so there was
[182.47] Frank: all the sort of X-blade pilots there as
[187.35] Frank: Even you know, we had hillbillies made it down all sorts of people and
[192.35] Dom: And the hot courts did anyone sleep no one sleeps in the hot water of air
[199.95] Frank: But
[206.32] Frank: Yeah, we had
[208.12] Frank: it was at Papa marefield
[210.16] Frank: which is a live airfield where they have a lot of spitfires and biplanes and all sorts of things and
[218.52] Frank: They're trying to make a permanent FPV race course there. So there's a big netted area or
[225.64] Frank: Not so big. It was quite a small nested area really for FPV racing, but we managed it
[231.16] Frank: and
[233.88] Frank: Load of trees and things in there obviously a load of gates
[238.88] Frank: And we had this interesting course setup that started off as an obstacle course as it usually does and then by the end of the
[248.32] Frank: End of the weekend we had sub 25 second laps around it
[254.08] Dom: Wow, there's a big I heard on the blogs. It was quite a tricky course, wasn't it?
[258.56] Frank: Yeah, exactly. There's a lot of as soon as you clipped anything you've got
[265.36] Frank: Barely any distance between you and the net so you've either got to
[269.68] Frank: hit the net in which case you're stuck or
[273.04] Frank: absolutely blast it which a few people did and then try and recover or
[277.52] Frank: as a couple of people did end up way outside the net and into trees and then have to go and
[284.76] Frank: Luke Bannister was climbing some trees retrieving quads occasionally
[292.16] Frank: No, you're doing someone else's actually
[299.8] Frank: Yeah
[301.84] Frank: we managed to have
[304.8] Frank: An interesting time retrieving quads from the nets the same as we did it at Farnborough
[312.64] Frank: Because we didn't have quite the right ladder for the job. So at one point
[319.44] Frank: Yeah, it was kind of upper ladder just being held up by people because it was a extension ladder rather than a step
[326.88] Dom: They need a window cleaner in residence
[328.88] Tony: Yeah, they need someone with a big pole
[331.88] Frank: So there you go, Tony. If if you don't called rescue, yeah
[340.48] Frank: Papa marefield might need you at the odd weekend when they're running a bit. I'll be good for something then. Yeah
[352.96] Frank: I
[354.04] Frank: Didn't fly this weekend. Um
[356.4] Frank: Obviously because I was very busy helping organizing the race and not at all because all my quads are broken
[368.6] Frank: Yeah, it was a
[370.92] Frank: Yeah, yeah a little bit
[372.44] Frank: I I did manage to the weekend before just power one into the grounds trying to do some line of sight
[378.6] Frank: Fancy stuff and didn't quite go too well
[381.6] Frank: But never mind, I'm sure I'll fix it. I've got this weekend. I've got a four-day weekend at electromagnetic field. So hopefully
[390.56] Frank: That is
[392.32] Frank: Pretty much a big geek fest
[394.72] Frank: So it's a big camping event where they have Wi-Fi and power to the tent
[400.6] Frank: there's all sorts of things from
[404.0] Frank: Their knitting workshops up to
[407.8] Frank: networking, you know
[409.72] Frank: Network
[411.16] Frank: He's a knitting workshops. Yeah from
[414.96] Frank: Network soldering night
[417.24] Frank: Seminars
[418.6] Frank: Just anything that you make is is the knitting race. It's a knitting race
[424.92] Cem: Like a make-affair
[426.72] Frank: Exactly. It's like a make-affair but for four days in a field
[431.68] Dom: Don't you make a fair? Yeah a muddy make-affair
[436.92] Frank: Make-affair with lots of cables
[440.44] Frank: trailing through the mud
[442.52] Frank: 3d printing in a field. Yes, I'm sure there will be some 3d printing in a field
[449.2] Frank: They've even got like introduction to Japanese is one of them
[454.2] Frank: All sorts of stuff. It's any kind of thing that is happening that they can come up with
[460.52] Frank: But yeah, I will definitely be taking my soldering iron and my quads and trying to put stuff back together
[467.76] Cem: Awesome. Yes, can I take a moment just to ask about like how people feel?
[473.48] Cem: Regards like technical tracks and stuff because like looking at farm bro and in a popper
[480.6] Cem: You know, they're getting twistier and turnier is that
[484.76] Tony: Seem to be the norm. It's like being indoors, isn't it? I don't like it. I like stretching my legs a bit
[492.32] Cem: It's like it's come straight out of the triangle racing that roto racing used to do
[496.6] Cem: Yeah, a lot of the tracks are like that like Tony says like an indoor track but with trees
[502.8] Frank: Yeah, I mean both farm bro runs Queens Cup was a case of being given
[507.56] Frank: This is the space that you've got. Yeah, and to make an event happen make it happen
[512.32] Frank: And so Brett's been working really hard to design the course that is making use of the available space, but still
[521.16] Frank: not
[522.28] Frank: impossible for
[524.68] Cem: Hats off to Brett like these courses are great. It's just I'm wondering, you know, I like a big old course much
[531.04] Cem: Like what Tony just said, you know, like, you know, there was a German one recently with the three rings
[536.32] Cem: like really big
[538.32] Tony: Yeah, I love that cool. That looked amazing
[542.36] Dom: It had a sort of fold back thing, you know, didn't it we had to turn back that was amazing
[547.56] Cem: So, you know that kind of a you know, you get some legs on you get a bit of speed up
[552.4] Cem: Before you have to slow down, you know, I'm seeing these tight twisty corners and not seeing much top speed
[558.24] Tony: Yeah, same here Jim. I'm with you man
[561.16] Tony: I like that all that tops all the twisty stuff needs to be like indoor stuff. I like
[567.4] Tony: courses
[568.52] Cem: Yeah, exactly. And he's like, you know, we've got a lot of new users and a new new pilots
[575.08] Cem: Your top 10 on most of the lists will do that twisty Tony stuff in their sleep
[580.84] Cem: But the rest of them, you know, you're gonna get people crashing left, right and center
[585.12] Cem: I'm not you know making any assertions, but I think an open fly fast flowing track
[592.16] Cem: Much like one that you know coming up soon. Yeah
[595.72] Tony: That is a brilliant lead into into it
[600.2] Tony: What a great what a great leading to talking about
[604.6] Cem: Very subtle
[608.76] Cem: But away Jeff what's happening tell us about yours in well, okay, we've got a fast open floating track
[616.88] Cem: Form your FPV. You've all been there. You've seen it. I just want to make it a little bit better than it is last year
[622.44] Cem: That's really my main purpose. We've helped from Dom yourself
[628.4] Cem: My god, if you if we can do what you're planning to do we've I think we're gonna revolutionize it
[634.2] Dom: I think well, I'm stroking the box. I'm stroking the box at the moment
[639.64] Dom: As well, but I want it covered the only thing I insist on is it's covered in drone stickers when it comes back
[645.24] Dom: It will have to be I think we've got just to hold it together
[648.92] Cem: But like now look we've got great pilots undoubtedly the UK has bred the most amazing pilots
[656.6] Cem: Like it could well have come from all of this indoor flying but our pilots, you know
[661.2] Cem: We we can turn a bloody corner mate. Yeah, so the pilots are good
[666.64] Cem: You know, we've got a lot of backup. We've got a lot of decent retailers to find us the right products
[671.56] Cem: You know, we've got my opinion the best independent race control
[676.32] Cem: Which is rotor racing? Yeah
[679.92] Cem: So what we need is a way of promoting ourselves of pushing ourselves out there and ultimately it's gonna be through video
[689.24] Cem: And again, I'm not saying nothing to note against anyone
[692.88] Cem: So far we haven't had good UK video output of any of our races
[698.92] Cem: It just hasn't worked
[701.48] Cem: Yeah, you know, you might get one video of someone flying round
[705.4] Cem: But no complete
[707.88] Cem: You know as much as we could possibly do to try and make it like a little show
[712.48] Cem: Yeah, but you could sit and watch. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah
[716.04] Cem: And it I feel that that's what's missing in our element
[719.52] Cem: Yeah, and that's where we're gonna start stroking into mainstream, you know
[724.88] Cem: It's good to watch someone else flying fast
[727.4] Cem: But unless I'm being told about it or have some reason to bond with a particular pilot
[734.44] Dom: What am I continuing to watch it for? Yeah, how do you get to the personalities of the fliers and stuff and
[740.92] Dom: Build the thing around it. No, I totally agree Jim
[743.6] Dom: I think you know, we there's been some attempts and I think half the problem has been just that well
[749.56] Dom: It's two aspects of it. One is anchoring the the video feeds it naturally there there's some complexity in there and you know
[756.8] Dom: I've had two or three
[758.8] Dom: The big boy broadcast is sky and press association come to me and go, you know
[763.0] Dom: We'd love to come and video it but can we hook into your production system because they haven't got a clue how to deal with
[770.2] Dom: With the five and eight media stuff and all that and I do think I think one of the things that I've seen over the last
[777.8] Dom: year has been
[780.0] Dom: Some I think the sense of how big the space is has settled down a little bit
[785.44] Dom: so people have started working together a bit more rather than trying to create lots of isolated pools, which I think is great and
[790.2] Dom: I love with which with everyone really kind of tipping their hat to what rotor racing are doing in terms of organization
[797.0] Dom: That's giving us a real spine
[799.0] Dom: with that we've now hopefully got scoring that people can agree on and
[804.48] Dom: So as long as we can get the scoring stuff into the video feed, I think that's going to be the magic for fauna FPV
[810.56] Dom: I don't from what I'm doing
[812.96] Dom: And I'm trying to bring it bring in from my seat. I don't necessarily think this time it'll look absolutely glorious
[819.8] Dom: But the idea is to have all the parts in there
[822.48] Dom: And then hopefully over the autumn we can polish that so that by the time we come around to the next season
[828.12] Dom: We can produce a season with a consistent look and feel for all the different events. Yeah
[833.68] Dom: We can help people
[835.36] Dom: Televise or produce their own events in a similar format, even if it's a sort of, you know minimal
[841.88] Dom: Version just using Facebook live approach that sort of stuff
[845.96] Dom: But make it so that we can all find it
[848.28] Dom: that's the important stuff is that we can all find it and tune in when the events are on and
[852.84] Dom: getting get engaged with what
[855.04] Dom: Who the pilots are what they're doing to compete with each other and same way you do with formula one
[860.32] Cem: And some of them is that work. Sorry
[863.16] Cem: Tiny but some of it Dom is work that you're doing now to refine it down to like three or four boxes that we plug together
[870.16] Cem: Yeah, rather than just like what the Lincoln. Oh, am I looking at? Yeah. Yeah
[874.88] Dom: It's got got to be something that a club could read a website and build themselves. Yes, I
[881.04] Cem: Think that's that's the element. We're all right. You're test bedding it at formula
[885.56] Cem: But I want Delta Hawks to be able to use it or you know
[889.16] Cem: Yeah, value or just any club to be able to you know, their output to come up as well
[894.0] Cem: It's not just about formula. We just have the next venue in the you know, the one that can use it. Yeah
[901.36] Tony: Yeah, next next in the calendar in a way
[904.2] Cem: Yeah in in some respects, you know
[905.98] Cem: It's worked out that way that it will be a formula that we may get the first video that people will want to watch a second time
[912.92] Cem: Yeah, yeah
[914.36] Cem: Like with a bit of structure and you know
[916.46] Cem: This is where the pilot was and I'd like to see the pilot's name on the screen as I'm as he's flying around
[922.44] Cem: I made my little demand there with their OSD, you know, I'd like to see bios in between racing
[929.72] Cem: You know, I'd like to know more about each pilot. I don't know enough about
[934.76] Tony: That's
[936.76] Dom: That's brilliant. That's a brilliant idea. So listen, you know those have you seen those website
[941.4] Dom: Have you all got profiles on those websites? Like what's the one where you can create on?
[945.92] Dom: Let me just see if I can find it while we're talking. There's a
[950.72] Dom: Profile site I've seen some of it some of the flies I know up there
[955.12] Dom: Who've got it's you can go in there. You can attach your YouTube feed you can attach your
[960.88] Dom: Facebook feed or various social feeds into it and create a profile put in details about what you're flying and so on
[967.84] Dom: I've got to remember the name of it
[970.52] Dom: Talk amongst yourselves. Well, I can find it
[973.16] Tony: It's all really got to be under one thing though, isn't it? You know, like
[978.76] Cem: Yes or no, but look Tony yes and no, you know the league definitely I know I'm a big fan of inside FBB
[985.28] Cem: Yeah, the league definitely sold our points
[988.6] Cem: the technology
[990.24] Cem: You know and how another group puts their their logos on and where they put it and you know their color
[997.44] Cem: Variation that could change that obviously like a different program. Yeah, you know
[1001.68] Cem: I think if Tom does the show the work he's doing now and there's another guy Tim or I'd like to mention
[1007.28] Cem: Yeah, yeah, sure. He's in the chat room. Yeah top boy
[1011.88] Cem: If that if we can just make it like this is how you do it guys not even use this
[1017.64] Cem: You know, this is the bits that needs to be done
[1020.96] Cem: With all right, so I you know, my main drive is getting us away from blokes in the field
[1025.92] Cem: I don't want to be labeled as blokes in the field. Yeah, and you know without decent output. I think we're gonna struggle
[1033.36] Cem: We know how fabulous it is. We absolutely love what we do
[1037.76] Cem: But how do you show someone else that without telling them that? Oh look this guy was seventh and now look at him
[1044.04] Cem: He's inferred. How do you do that?
[1047.12] Dom: So have you seen them FPV racing TV?
[1050.92] Dom: I've seen the biggest biggest database that I know of of
[1056.16] Dom: People in my mind setting themselves out as you'd set yourself out and expect to start seeing a profile of data that we could grab into
[1065.48] Dom: A video show because you know, there's there's lots of boxes of data and images
[1070.04] Dom: Which if we could if we could just reach into that
[1073.94] Dom: Website and pull that sort of data up as fliers are taking the flight line
[1080.06] Dom: Then it'll make it make the whole program in which I think we need a bit of a brainstorm of those ideas on it
[1084.3] Dom: Maybe it maybe a Facebook group would be a nice place to just pull a lot of thinking
[1091.46] Cem: Earlier this collaboration thing like I know what I can do
[1095.02] Cem: But I don't know what other people can do and there's people I'm sure that were happy to put some of their time involved
[1101.78] Cem: For the greater good, you know, I'm not asking them to make me a product. Yeah, you know this
[1107.7] Dom: There's a sense of open source about it, isn't there?
[1110.02] Dom: we might get further if we do a sort of open source production, but have some sense of standards so that we
[1115.78] Dom: When you when you go to watch content, it's really representing the sport
[1119.58] Dom: Well, and by the time it matures to being a you know, proper televised sport and so on then everyone knows how it works
[1127.26] Tony: Mmm, where is it exciting times at the moment? We're like the pioneers. We're the
[1134.86] Tony: We're the guys who were gonna make it mainstream and I do think it will go there
[1140.42] Cem: I'd like to mention something about pop them that I don't think many people realize I don't know
[1145.14] Cem: Maybe they do but just the fact that we were selected as drone racing for the Queen's Cup is tantamount to being
[1153.22] Cem: approved by the Queen and by the state and that
[1157.66] Cem: Be
[1159.1] Cem: accredited as a proper
[1161.42] Cem: Yeah with that accreditation from the you know, we was chosen as you know at the Queen's Cup
[1167.22] Cem: That's you know, they don't they didn't choose tiddly winks
[1170.78] Dom: Yeah, they're losing their first the
[1173.58] Dom: Grand on the grand scheme of things
[1175.26] Dom: I think the the state in very loose terms is losing its fear of drones and starting to engage on the
[1182.18] Dom: Especially the one magic word to mention to the police and politicians and counselors is stem and
[1188.18] Dom: Since you point out there how much learnings got to go in to making something fly very quickly
[1194.38] Dom: And so on once you realize the breadth of skill that that you can sort of tease into the education
[1201.3] Dom: additional framework with with the drone
[1204.78] Dom: Every door just opens and suddenly go. Oh, this is a political winner
[1208.58] Dom: This is cool for the kids and it's great for great for great for promoting all sorts of things that we want to promote
[1215.34] Cem: Yeah, there is the other there's another very big strong unity angle
[1220.46] Cem: Not that you're going to use it as an angle, but this is the only sport I know of where you can have an eight-year-old kid
[1228.7] Cem: And the girl a boy a disabled guy a fully able guy all on the same level playing field
[1236.14] Tony: Yep, and a 60 year old 40 year old. Yeah, exactly. Yeah
[1242.34] Cem: And you know, there's I don't can't think of any other spool
[1246.14] Cem: That is even it that inclusive
[1249.46] Tony: Yeah, but when we are against the teenagers, we do get our asses kicked
[1258.86] Tony: Good eyes and stuff
[1261.82] Dom: Andrew you still stay still in the background. I am still here. Yes. Yeah
[1266.3] Dom: I think a big request from me from because LDR is like a key
[1272.34] Dom: Magazine point in the week for me. It's a point where okay, we can look back at the last week and look forward to next week
[1278.66] Dom: And I think when you next get together with Jack once he's with Brent until I fly once he's back in action
[1284.1] Dom: I think you should look at having
[1287.38] Dom: Making sure you have a particular even if it's just the last five minutes or
[1291.22] Dom: Half past eight every week or something have a particular slot
[1294.66] Dom: Where you make sure that people get their listings into you and you just give a run through all the events that are going on
[1300.66] Dom: But I think that I think having a you know, there isn't a particular there are websites which have various bits of data on
[1307.66] Dom: But I think if it's also
[1309.66] Dom: Motivated by people getting in touch with you and keeping us as a community through the podcast up to speed with what's going on
[1315.38] Dom: On a weekly basis you'll get that magazine vibe
[1318.02] Tony: Yeah
[1318.5] Dom: And that'll mean that it becomes easier to then promote webcasts of things and people will bother to do them because they'll get 50
[1324.26] Dom: Hundred hundred and fifty maybe thousands of people tuning in to watch events
[1328.98] Frank: Yeah, that's that's definitely the idea. It's what we're trying to keep people up to date with you know
[1334.7] Frank: Events information, you know, we have our notes and we tried to go through them
[1339.98] Frank: But sometimes we do get carried away just with chatting to people once we get into the flow of it
[1343.98] Frank: Yeah
[1348.1] Dom: I think I think if I need to tune in at half past eight every week and there's gonna be 15 minutes
[1353.54] Dom: Here comes the weekly race listings went round around the world
[1357.98] Dom: I'm sure Chris from MotoGP would feed up feed in tons from the States
[1363.7] Cem: Which is a good liaison to have yeah, yeah, I can agree with that, you know, like even if it you know
[1369.62] Cem: just the intro would be
[1371.82] Cem: You know this week's racing includes from this country from that country, whatever it may be but yeah
[1377.78] Cem: I'll go with that
[1379.42] Cem: Cuz I I'd search a lot. I'm guessing most of you know
[1383.1] Cem: I'm online a lot and I search a lot for
[1386.14] Cem: Races and racing events because I like I'm fully FPV and I want to push that back out onto my formula page
[1393.18] Cem: But it's very difficult to actually find a decent list of what's coming up. Yeah
[1401.62] Dom: I'm given let's join out as the most regular podcast because it's weekly if you just make it half past eight every week
[1407.58] Dom: You can tune in somewhere you get 15 minute roundup. That's that's a global tool for everyone. Do you know what I mean?
[1414.14] Tony: Yeah, you know good idea though. Nice one big tip done
[1418.66] Dom: Yeah, well, it's all a sort of daisy chain of seeing how things hang together
[1421.74] Dom: Cuz I've just taken jiu-jitsu through from being a sort of very immature
[1426.1] Dom: Sport and a friend's really driven it and along the way I've given him lots of input on on building his webcast
[1431.58] Dom: And we got the webcasting to a point where his stuff suddenly magically looked like Euro sports
[1436.7] Dom: You know, it's a few thousand pounds worth of investment to do that
[1440.7] Dom: But as soon as that happened they got on the radar of massive international investment and they're becoming an Olympic sport
[1446.94] Dom: So I do think it's possible. We're drawing racing over a period of years to really
[1452.66] Dom: structure it take sort of take control of the
[1455.78] Dom: Format of it at this stage as a community
[1458.42] Dom: So that we say how we like to fly rather than get some big-name sponsor coming and dictate it badly because they're you know
[1465.3] Dom: The guys been into it for six months and isn't really as you say Jim fully FPV
[1474.1] Dom: If it comes from us the content will be more engaging for us in five years time once it's really mature
[1478.78] Dom: It'll stay engaging. It won't suddenly become like
[1482.34] Dom: You know drone again and or whatever it's called which are good good things, but they they're distractions from
[1489.82] Cem: From what I think's going on at the grassroots level. It doesn't include anything that I like about FPV like for me
[1496.1] Cem: You know FPV only fast long fast tight gaps speed faster. And yeah, how does drone the Geddon?
[1505.42] Dom: well, I
[1507.26] Dom: Think it I think it popularizes it which is valuable because it brings people into it. I think it toyifies it but
[1514.34] Cem: To me there's not sure there's a skill there line of sight skill. I appreciate that
[1519.38] Cem: But when you're flying, you know, why do we why are we enthused by Red Bull air races?
[1525.98] Cem: Because it's damn fast, you know, they're going along and they're going along low. Yeah
[1533.26] Cem: It's all of that excitement that thrill that speed is
[1537.86] Cem: quite necessary I think for
[1540.26] Tony: My view of what the sport should be. Oh, I totally agree with you Jim. Totally
[1546.74] Dom: So I've just had I've just had an absolutely mental idea, you know
[1551.02] Dom: Carlos did that 3d
[1553.46] Dom: stereoscopic camera set up. Yeah
[1556.42] Dom: You can press a button in YouTube feeds to do that. So it works for Google cardboard
[1562.3] Dom: Yeah, that would be awesome, which is only possible by webcasting it and it doesn't change what we're doing with the webcast
[1568.9] Dom: It just changes the input. I'm just not sure how the input can be plugged in. Anyway, there's one for offline
[1578.66] Cem: So another thing I'd like to just quickly mention because I just want to
[1582.86] Cem: Seriously reiterate how important the Queen's Cup is and if we can just find the right people to say the right things to the right
[1589.42] Cem: counselors
[1590.46] Cem: We can start pushing for drone parks
[1593.18] Cem: Like right now we are struggling like we are struggling hard to find somewhere to fly
[1598.38] Cem: We're doing our best to be all concerned and be nice about it
[1602.22] Cem: But for God's sake if you see something booting around the sky, why would you go and walk next to it?
[1609.42] Cem: You know, so if we can get to the point we need
[1613.58] Cem: Three to six tennis courts worth of space in any park. Yeah, and we can have a good little fly in there
[1619.78] Tony: Well, I guess like a skate park, but we could build it a drain a drone park
[1624.5] Cem: Yeah, and we need to you know springboard off the Queen's Cup and that accreditation
[1629.94] Cem: You know use that to push ourselves towards actually being a sport and present ourselves in the right way
[1635.82] Cem: with the work that we're doing, you know and
[1639.26] Cem: Find a way to get us
[1641.58] Cem: You know recognize there's not villains
[1643.78] Cem: We're not out I tell people about drone racing and the first thing they say to me is about dropping stuff in place
[1649.62] Cem: Yeah
[1650.94] Cem: Looking into people's houses and I'm like, oh god, mate
[1653.94] Cem: You don't even understand how much snow we have to look through, you know, just to see the track. Yeah
[1660.02] Cem: It's so not what happens and we need to if we can actually show the videos where someone
[1666.94] Cem: Will watch it or show their mum or dad and their mum or dad won't just look what's that stupid mess?
[1673.46] Cem: Then they're gonna understand what the difference is between what we're doing
[1678.22] Cem: Yeah, and what the crazy Russian man with a gun on his stupid
[1683.34] Dom: Like how ridiculous is that? But yeah, it's out there. So where do you go sit in five years time? Do you see?
[1690.14] Dom: the
[1692.46] Dom: The sort of video like where you're engaging with what's going on around the world. Do you think it'll be?
[1700.34] Dom: Programs of sort of sort of along the lines of extreme sports and skate and BMX
[1707.1] Dom: Yeah, or do you think it'll evolve to be something like canoeing and athletics or what?
[1712.58] Dom: What I think there must be a million views on it, but I just wonder where you guys think it might end up
[1718.78] Cem: I'm thinking that it's going to become a very fast school
[1723.42] Cem: And I'm also seen like in my own head
[1727.1] Cem: Like where it goes into schools that you was mentioning before
[1730.34] Cem: Where now we're actually teaching the difference of thrust dynamics. I guess you could call it
[1735.82] Cem: It's not really
[1737.82] Cem: In schools as a you know as an engineering term
[1742.26] Cem: Yeah, and then go from there and then you could take it like this
[1745.98] Cem: There's plans for helping people with rehabilitation problems and physical disabilities
[1751.62] Cem: To actually get them the sense of motion and the sense of flying. Yeah, this this this you know
[1758.46] Cem: That you're flying should not be taken lightly
[1761.7] Cem: Yeah, you know, that's what man has wanted to do since the dawn of time
[1766.78] Tony: That's that's the bit I can't get over when I tell when I try to tell people
[1772.3] Tony: What the experience is like?
[1775.06] Tony: Like when I say like you're I'm fine this I it's so hard to cook to get that across
[1780.5] Tony: I'm in the quadcopter if I want to flip over that tree
[1784.86] Tony: I can flip flip. I it's me doing it you're yeah
[1790.3] Tony: between your brain and
[1793.14] Tony: doing that
[1794.98] Tony: It's incredible. I follow a guy on YouTube who's in a wheelchair
[1800.1] Tony: And he flies and he just says how free he feels like he's he's in a wheelchair all the time
[1806.94] Tony: But when he's in that quadcopter flying, he's he's
[1815.62] Tony: Over to people
[1817.62] Dom: You reminded me it works like one of the most
[1820.46] Dom: It's kind of left to feel but one of the most emotional stories I had when I
[1824.54] Dom: Was promoting the first mini air show about I must be about 18 months ago
[1828.14] Dom: I went around all our local primary schools with like a couple of planes in my and a couple of quads and that sort of thing and
[1835.5] Dom: One of the schools before we were setting up before we started the teachers came in with a blind child
[1841.7] Dom: and said, you know, she wasn't going to get any of the
[1846.1] Dom: Without having actually put her hands on the planes
[1850.02] Dom: Could she touch the planes and I was like, of course and sort of actually let her engage with the planes
[1856.02] Dom: First of all, which he had a picture of I think in her mind and then put the quad in hands
[1860.74] Dom: And her face just go, huh?
[1864.06] Dom: It was quite emotional moment
[1865.78] Dom: No, the the sense of actually giving people with this disease is an appreciation for flight. I think it's powerful
[1872.82] Tony: It's very very very very very very powerful
[1876.22] Cem: I've spent some time as you know on the Neil from I drone nice little plug
[1880.9] Cem: Neil stands at most places that you've ever been to and I promote it ages ago
[1887.5] Cem: I promoted freerider and the irrelevant of the
[1890.9] Cem: Sing the point was what I was trying to do was give people that experience
[1894.08] Cem: And what I realized that stood on the flight line looking at it line of sight is one thing
[1899.82] Cem: Watching it on a screen in saying
[1902.54] Cem: Is yet another thing. It's a little bit more exciting
[1905.9] Cem: Going to immersion is is you know, you see them doing a bit of swaying, but they don't get the heartbeat
[1913.06] Cem: When you go immersion and you put a set of sticks in their hand everything changes
[1918.54] Cem: Yeah, you they took the goggles off and I smile on these people's faces. Yeah, it's just so incredible because it's
[1928.54] Cem: Actually, they've realized that they are flying. I don't think until that point
[1935.26] Cem: Funny enough segue nicely into something. I want to just quickly chat about if you don't mind
[1941.1] Cem: Which is tiny work? Yeah
[1944.22] Cem: Tiny work is in my opinion the perfect gateway quad
[1948.54] Cem: Yeah, and I mean that in you know coming from joan junky
[1951.34] Cem: I mean that in that I could put time in your mum's hands and get her to fly fpv within 15 minutes
[1958.7] Cem: Yeah, I mean like i'm talking about someone that has got no interest in flying modeling
[1964.2] Cem: engineering
[1965.66] Cem: Anything like that. I'll see at all and you could get that person to fly
[1970.46] Cem: yeah, and
[1972.06] Cem: Is so powerful and I think we need to work out ways
[1976.94] Cem: of
[1978.14] Cem: Doing that more. Yeah, like, you know, like we've all got a tiny book most of us have yeah
[1983.82] Cem: Thank you very much speak for yourself
[1987.42] Cem: Soon enough tony you've got
[1989.5] Cem: All right, but you need a tiny winter's coming tony. It's august already, man
[1996.14] Cem: To then
[1997.1] Cem: Give someone else that experience using your tiny whip
[2000.06] Cem: I wouldn't for one second give anyone my 180
[2004.06] Cem: I wouldn't even give them my tiny little spider from propel, which is about 120 ish
[2010.22] Cem: Yeah, I wouldn't do that exposed propellers and all that too much speed, but I would give anybody a tiny whoop
[2017.66] Cem: Yeah
[2018.46] Cem: So for me, I want people to like think about that like share that joy that you're having
[2024.78] Cem: Share that tiny work, you know
[2027.02] Cem: Like you've gone to a barbecue to have a little fpv fly stick it on someone else. Give them the controls. Yeah
[2033.9] Cem: Don't just you
[2035.58] Cem: Show what what it's doing
[2037.74] Dom: You know
[2038.78] Dom: So I start I I got my camera off you this week and I stuck it on my little hubs and I don't recommend that
[2044.38] Dom: The bit too small the moment's too short, it's just yeah, it's hectic
[2048.78] Cem: You can't enjoy the pits on the hubs and okay
[2051.34] Cem: There is one that you can but you can't normally program the pits and the hubs and is not it doesn't respond fast enough
[2058.46] Cem: Unlike say like the micro drone. I don't know if you guys have heard of the micro drone
[2062.7] Cem: B3 from bernan and the guy created it himself and wrote the algorithm algorithm himself
[2069.02] Cem: And that's got adaptive algorithms, which are now coming into flight controllers
[2073.82] Cem: Like the nays and the clean flights
[2075.9] Cem: But he did that something like three years ago
[2078.38] Cem: And the same flight controller could work
[2081.02] Cem: with three different sized arms
[2083.58] Cem: Yeah, so that kind of flight controller you can stick it on the top and have no worries about changing how it's balanced
[2089.74] Dom: Wait, jem. I've got interrupt. I'll say somebody got a dot matrix printer running. Sorry
[2097.02] Dom: Is it a dot matrix
[2100.54] Cem: Oh
[2104.22] Cem: Tony you can put can you put that picture on
[2106.94] Cem: Um, that's what it is
[2109.18] Frank: But i'm 3d printing and i'll pause it for you if you can upload it to facebook or somewhere then I can put it on
[2116.14] Cem: Uh, I'll put it on skype
[2120.14] Tony: Let me let me take a picture of it and i'll send it to um, andrew
[2125.9] Cem: It's just gonna be uploaded somewhere. Let's see if it's making if it's too much. Let me see if i'm pausing
[2131.26] Tony: It's all right. Um, I just leave it running. It's fine. It's been running for a long enough. Yes
[2136.3] Dom: Yeah, I was getting wet at the sound of it. I love the sound of dot matrix printer
[2144.94] Dom: Lasers just don't do it for me, you know
[2147.9] Tony: I've just said i've sent it to frank. So he should be able to put it on the canvas
[2152.62] Cem: I'd like to see if anyone can guess what i'm printing
[2157.34] Cem: Invo invoices
[2161.42] Cem: And the only problem is I don't really want to say what it is just yet
[2165.18] Cem: Just you know people are going to be printing the heck out of this one
[2168.46] Frank: See this is another thing we need
[2171.18] Frank: You can uh, you could uh check out the picture by going to
[2175.0] Frank: Facebook and facebook.com slash let's draw it out and it will be up there by the time you're listening to this
[2183.9] Tony: So are we gonna have a formula fbv winter tiny whoop event
[2188.78] Cem: How did you get who told you that? Oh, it's just get out of my head
[2193.02] Tony: Okay, i'm just get i'm just
[2195.32] Tony: Spectating here. I'm just really what's going on jim. Come on
[2199.42] Cem: It's very early for me to talk about it, but I can say
[2203.02] Cem: That um nec we're talking with ollie the top man
[2207.58] Cem: About doing a formula fpv micro
[2211.66] Cem: So that will include tiny whoops
[2215.26] Cem: But we'll also include things like the speck and the puck from the righteous boys
[2220.3] Cem: um
[2221.42] Cem: You know faster eight and a half mil style motors, but still on the small scale
[2228.94] Cem: Yeah, oh the mini racing so you've got mini racing in one room. Yep as normal and then you've got a
[2235.58] Cem: a micro room
[2238.46] Cem: And it'll be fully fpv micro
[2241.1] Tony: Sounds good, man. Are we there?
[2243.26] Dom: Yeah, so we're going to need to find some interesting places to host those sort of events
[2247.42] Cem: Yeah, so see my issue was after formula last year
[2250.94] Cem: Um, I spent ages and ages and ages trying to find an indoor venue
[2256.54] Cem: That would satisfy my needs for speed as opposed to terms
[2261.34] Cem: Um, and I failed miserably, you know hands up. Uh, it's just impossible unless you've got a fat wad of money
[2268.22] Cem: um
[2269.18] Cem: so
[2270.22] Cem: for me
[2272.28] Cem: Micros once you're in the quad once you're flying you don't know how big that quad is. It doesn't make any difference
[2278.7] Cem: Yeah, so I feel that we can have smaller quads
[2282.62] Cem: Flying in a micro indoor event, which we need in england because it rains so much
[2288.38] Cem: Yes
[2289.34] Cem: agreed
[2290.78] Cem: um, so I think we can have indoor events more fun and
[2294.94] Cem: Safer even like, you know, imagine the safety considerations would just be so much less
[2300.38] Cem: And we're still going to be doing safety, of course, but
[2303.34] Cem: Just so much less, you know hit on the head by a tiny whoops
[2309.58] Dom: You still I mean
[2310.94] Tony: Knocked my glass over. Yeah, that's that's the thing. I mean you can fly them and your pets
[2315.58] Tony: It doesn't you know, it doesn't affect pets or anything and we all we're all animal lovers in this country. So
[2321.98] Tony: That's a good thing as well
[2323.9] Frank: safety consideration for a big tiny with event being
[2327.82] Frank: Uh wearing a hair net if you've got long hair, so you don't spend three hours taking it out afterwards
[2336.54] Dom: It's not something i'm afflicted with these days
[2339.1] Frank: Yeah, little me
[2341.66] Dom: Am I alone in this?
[2343.34] Dom: If you get stuck for venues, let me know but unfortunately, I know loads of venues
[2346.46] Dom: But they're all in the southeast round Brighton, which is probably getting boring for people
[2350.38] Cem: But if you get if you get stuck just shout my only problem with that and I love hidden valley
[2355.5] Cem: I'm not saying anything. It's just that you're at the end of the road
[2358.78] Cem: Yeah, yeah find places in the middle to help everyone
[2362.38] Cem: All right, i'm london and formulas around the corner for me. That was very personal. But yeah
[2367.66] Cem: I think we need to be a little bit more more north
[2370.46] Cem: Not too far, but not quite birmingham but
[2374.22] Dom: Halfway, maybe all right. So here's one for you for everyone. I got approached by coral dog stadiums
[2380.14] Dom: about to see if uh
[2381.74] Dom: To see if uh, we might be interested in using the broadcast feeds to host
[2385.98] Dom: Um races from their stadiums when they're not doing dog racing
[2391.1] Dom: Okay, i'll put that out there. I put that out there because uh,
[2395.34] Dom: And I thought that's me that that's me and my marriage or that's drone racing at the coral dog stadiums
[2403.58] Tony: It would be better it would be a better thing to have drone racing near than dog racing that's
[2409.02] Dom: I would second that I would second that
[2411.58] Dom: You know, and if I imagine a dog track that's gonna be pretty big that's big enough
[2416.46] Dom: So how about chasing the rabbit with drones as the race making it very very simple?
[2421.9] Tony: That would be better than poor dogs
[2424.14] Cem: It would be you know, what i'd like that if you allowed me to do
[2428.78] Cem: Did any of you guys see the toronto race? There was one
[2432.14] Cem: Basically, they had like, you know, like horse racing hurdles
[2435.9] Cem: But one's coming from the ground and one's coming from the ceiling. So you went up and under
[2440.86] Cem: Right. Yeah, that would be awesome. So you're chasing the rabbit. It's just an overall but up and under
[2446.22] Cem: So we've got the 3d element there
[2448.22] Cem: Yeah, yeah, i'm with you. I'm a big fan of 3d. So if you know that yeah, so the rule is you can't overtake the rabbit
[2456.06] Cem: If you can catch the rabbit because that'll be belting it, wouldn't it?
[2459.42] Cem: I don't know. Would they be faster than rabbits? They probably would be probably would
[2464.3] Dom: Probably the rabbit's going about 50 odd. I thought who knows let's find out
[2468.54] Dom: That's yeah, if that appeals then i'll find out
[2472.62] Tony: Can you um, tell us any more about a formula fbv because I know you've got wing race in there
[2477.98] Tony: It's over three days. There's food
[2481.42] Tony: Can you do a rundown of everything and do you know how many laps everyone's got to do because we know it's a big course
[2487.58] Tony: And we're quite a lot of people are worried about. Um, how many laps we've got to do on our batteries
[2493.82] Cem: Okay
[2495.82] Cem: Is it the same?
[2497.58] Tony: Yeah, because should we start there work because I in my head
[2501.66] Tony: I know the course and if you're going to change it that's going to piss me off
[2505.1] Cem: All right. So
[2506.22] Cem: This is this is what's happened and you know
[2509.34] Cem: As you all know i'm very honest and straight up. Yeah
[2514.22] Cem: There was a lot of call for our event to be classed as a qualifying event
[2519.9] Cem: For the national cup thing. Yeah
[2522.38] Cem: um
[2523.42] Cem: in order for us to accommodate that request
[2527.1] Cem: We can't let you race the track as is
[2531.26] Cem: Yeah, so, you know
[2533.18] Cem: From last year. My big point was here's the track now
[2536.46] Cem: I put it in a simulator get good at it come back next year and race faster
[2541.1] Cem: Yeah, but in order for you guys to have it as part of a qualifying event
[2546.62] Cem: It can't new because of the way the rules are written. They may change i'm not arguing rules
[2552.3] Cem: um
[2553.42] Cem: But because of the way it was written
[2555.66] Cem: We can't tell what the track is
[2558.62] Cem: Yeah
[2559.42] Cem: Now I've had a special dispensation. We've had a lot of conversations about this
[2564.22] Cem: Where we're just going to adapt
[2566.46] Cem: The track that we've got
[2568.14] Cem: I can't tell you the adaptations
[2570.54] Cem: So this is why I wrote a post and some people took it the wrong way, but that's fine. Um, I wrote mostly the same
[2578.22] Cem: Because I don't know actually what I can and can't say. I can't really say anything. I don't think i've actually said anything in that
[2584.3] Cem: um
[2585.34] Cem: so
[2586.38] Cem: From that point of view you're mostly going to be
[2590.54] Cem: Flying the track that you know
[2592.54] Cem: And the pros we're going to have to deal with some right
[2595.66] Cem: nasty additions
[2597.66] Tony: Oh great. Can you change beef from pro to sport, please?
[2601.98] Cem: I can the sport track
[2604.46] Cem: The sport track will be last year's track
[2608.86] Cem: I'm happy for anyone that wants to change class. There's no
[2613.34] Cem: No
[2615.42] Cem: Shame or anything. No change, you know, we've only segregated pro and sport in the sport class
[2620.78] Cem: Maybe some people don't realize I said you don't have to do gates
[2623.98] Cem: There will be flags either side of the gates. So you still narrowed in I just want to be as inclusive as I can
[2632.06] Cem: You know, there are pilots that aren't pros that that's just maybe their first race
[2637.26] Cem: So, you know, they just want the experience of going around the track
[2641.1] Cem: under some pressure
[2642.94] Cem: But they don't want to crash halfway around
[2646.06] Cem: Yeah, which is why i've said look if you can go through the gate if you can't go through the flags
[2651.9] Cem: yeah, um
[2654.46] Cem: So, you know moving from there
[2656.94] Cem: the
[2657.98] Cem: Sport course is the same course that you know
[2662.54] Dom: Right
[2663.42] Cem: So you can take from that what you want about the pro course
[2668.38] Cem: Yeah, so most of the pro will it will be mostly the same
[2672.54] Tony: So they get shocked saying that the fun event has turned into it may not be fun. It may be pressure now
[2681.34] Cem: Well, look, you know
[2682.22] Cem: Like I said at the very start we have the best pilots in the world and in order to test the best pilots in the world
[2687.98] Cem: You have to create something that will test them
[2692.38] Cem: I would love to have a bag load of money and create a whole new course
[2697.34] Cem: Um this little bit of info by the way guys was only recently dropped on me
[2703.9] Cem: It would have been helpful if it was
[2705.98] Cem: Totally before
[2707.66] Cem: Uh, so I don't really want to change the course dramatically
[2711.58] Cem: And i've also got pilots that have been flying the sim for six eight months
[2717.56] Cem: Practicing i've got four international pilots coming that are coming
[2721.98] Cem: Because of what we've said about the sim and here is and get better and you know
[2727.58] Cem: Don't care about your qualifying event
[2730.3] Cem: so
[2731.58] Cem: You know, what do I do about them?
[2734.06] Cem: Yeah, it's a hard call, isn't it hard to keep everyone happy. I think that i've found the right enough balance
[2740.94] Cem: Yeah, like I say if you want to race the original track
[2744.62] Cem: Go for the sport class
[2746.54] Cem: Yeah, or original class. Let's call it. It doesn't matter what it's called. Does it?
[2751.1] Cem: Yeah, if you want to race the original track, that's the one
[2754.46] Cem: If you want a right tough test, like there's certain people on that list
[2759.18] Cem: That need this test
[2761.26] Cem: Yeah, that I think you know a way beyond
[2765.26] Cem: 90 percent of the people currently flying fpv their skill set like these guys are just
[2770.78] Cem: I could name them, you know if you want me to but yeah
[2774.14] Cem: But we all know who they are
[2776.62] Cem: And they're the top 10
[2778.14] Cem: consistently the top 10
[2779.82] Cem: Yeah, and they
[2781.82] Cem: They're you know, look as much as I love formula. They're going to be well bored on the formula track
[2788.3] Cem: Yeah, you know they they was doing it on the sim in the minute and a half for three laps guys
[2793.5] Cem: like
[2794.38] Cem: That's incredible. That's almost muscle memory, you know
[2799.1] Cem: So I need to try and keep everyone happy at the end of the day
[2802.54] Cem: The whole reason of what i'm doing is why i'm doing it is to make everyone happy. I just want people to come
[2808.3] Cem: Have a better time than they did last year raise the profile of formula
[2812.3] Cem: Do as much as I can to make it look professional and get everyone, you know that
[2817.66] Cem: Half a step one step up from where he was
[2821.42] Cem: Yeah, you know if you've never flown a track
[2825.26] Cem: You know you're making it hard on yourself forcing yourself to do tunnels and gates tight turns
[2832.78] Cem: I'd rather you just all right
[2834.7] Cem: Excuse me, mr. Tunnel mr. Gate, but you've gone round the lap four time three times
[2840.06] Tony: Yeah, because there is we've got to remember there is
[2843.66] Tony: A new people coming into the hobby all the time or the sport all the time
[2847.82] Cem: Yeah, that's what we wanted. We need to be inclusive. We need to remember that there's new people
[2853.34] Cem: Yeah, we've been in it three years four years. Yeah, we're the pioneers, but
[2858.54] Cem: Don't the pioneers make the roads for the guys coming behind them? Exactly. Yeah, we've got to have um
[2864.3] Tony: We've got to have it so they enjoy it rather than not enjoy it the day
[2868.78] Cem: Yeah, so that's why i'm not happy with my two-class system. I don't like calling it a class system like
[2875.02] Cem: The vision or whatever but yeah where you've got a pro track
[2880.3] Cem: And most of it is the same for the sport or the you know, the the open class
[2886.7] Cem: Yeah, so that you can
[2888.86] Cem: You know, you can get air time around the track look we've all been there in a field
[2893.42] Cem: All of us, you know
[2895.1] Cem: And we've progressed to one flag and then three flags and then we've got the hover speed eight flags and all the rest of it
[2900.62] Cem: Yeah
[2901.66] Cem: but with without those
[2903.88] Cem: Indicators and those flags and a timer and oh the pressure of actually being in a race
[2908.86] Cem: You're never going to get that experience
[2911.42] Cem: and if it's all too
[2913.82] Cem: Again, don't take me wrong. If it's all too
[2916.86] Cem: Farnborough or queen's cup you're never going in a race mate. There were people at queen's cup that didn't get around
[2924.14] Cem: Yeah, you know, how are you going to introduce more people if you only have
[2929.74] Cem: Top end professional races. Yeah, do you understand what I mean? We're only eight people can can even compete
[2935.74] Frank: Yeah
[2936.7] Cem: Yeah
[2937.74] Cem: You know until you've got enough people in the sport
[2941.82] Cem: Then you can segregate and you've got open races and proper pro races
[2946.78] Cem: Right now. I can't promote a race for 10 people. Can I know?
[2950.78] Cem: Yeah, you know, we've got nigh on 70 something pilots
[2954.78] Cem: that's
[2955.82] Cem: You know think how many people?
[2958.94] Cem: Out of that 70 it that's their first race
[2962.22] Tony: Yeah, quite a few I should think a good half of them
[2966.22] Cem: Yeah
[2967.02] Cem: And then the right then and then the half of the ones that have had a race it'll be their second race
[2972.38] Tony: That's it. Yep
[2974.78] Tony: So
[2975.58] Tony: What about the wing wing racing?
[2977.9] Tony: Can you talk anything about that because I know there's a few people want to fly wings
[2982.14] Cem: All right, so it came to my attention that a few people were doing fpv wings
[2988.46] Cem: Um, I put you out there and I said well if you fancy doing a wing
[2992.3] Cem: Thing round f round formula i'm happy to let you do that
[2996.78] Cem: During the weekend. It'll be entertaining for the spectators that i'm trying to bring in it will be entertaining for us
[3003.42] Cem: It will give us a little breathing time between intense heats
[3007.26] Cem: Um, so i'm open for we haven't had much response
[3011.02] Cem: We've had a couple of guys and a couple of negatives, but oh well, you always get that
[3015.58] Cem: Um, so i'm open for you know, you're going to come
[3018.78] Cem: At best follow the original formula track
[3022.94] Cem: In a wing let's see if you can do it if you can do it we're going to have more wing racing
[3029.18] Cem: Yeah, it's not, you know, i'm not trying to put pressure on anyone, you know
[3033.26] Cem: We're going to call it a race because someone's going to get there first
[3036.78] Cem: Yeah
[3037.66] Cem: But really it's a bit of a demonstration and a bit of a prover point and a bit of a can we really do this?
[3043.9] Tony: Yeah
[3044.86] Tony: Yeah, i'll think i'll think it'll be good
[3047.66] Cem: It's the same thing with the fpv truck racing like i've done a lot of rc car racing and it's always been line of sight
[3054.78] Cem: And when I did the truck we in that neil did at hidden valley, you remember that?
[3060.7] Cem: I was astonished. I was in love. I was like, oh my god
[3063.42] Cem: Now I want to do drifting and have the camera turn side to side while i'm
[3070.22] Cem: You know, so i'm
[3071.82] Cem: Right into fpv car or truck racing. I said truck because we're going to be on the grass
[3077.34] Cem: If we had a flat, you know, like a sports all it would be drifting. Yeah
[3083.18] Cem: So anyone that's got a truck
[3085.5] Cem: In between racing we're going to have
[3088.7] Cem: Time for you to turn up. I don't really want to do line of sight truck racing
[3092.54] Cem: It's not about that. You need to put a camera in it have the vtx get it checked. Make sure it's 25 milliwatts
[3099.5] Cem: Make that point across the board formula fpv 25 milliwatts max
[3104.3] Cem: Yeah, these changeable vtx's
[3107.66] Cem: Sorry guys. No
[3109.42] Tony: Yeah, some some of the um people going to stop them. I hear we're having problems
[3115.34] Tony: Yeah, it took people out and everything awful. Yeah, there was um people running 25, but they were 500. I think
[3122.46] Cem: Yeah
[3123.5] Cem: It's not right. The manufacturer has been told and they're going to deal with it
[3127.58] Frank: Yeah, the fox here tm25s for anyone that's you know
[3131.1] Frank: If you've got one of them you might want to get it power checked before
[3134.22] Frank: Trying to race with other people because it was a bit of an issue
[3137.58] Cem: Yeah, if any pilots have got uh, you know vtx that they they desperately, you know, they can't do it
[3143.74] Cem: We're going to help you out. We'll try and do it. We'll give you a discount whatever it is to get you the right one
[3149.58] Cem: Yeah, um, but we can't accept the changeable ones
[3154.06] Cem: at all
[3155.26] Cem: Yeah, you know even if you've done your power check
[3157.98] Cem: Sorry, it's just going to mess everything up if I take one unless I take them all
[3162.22] Cem: Um look for a 25 milliwatt transmitter, please please please. Yeah, definitely good point
[3168.7] Tony: um, can I just um
[3171.58] Tony: put out
[3172.78] Tony: uh the winner for the competition to win the rotor right here hat and two stickers people would have been listening for that reason
[3182.14] Tony: um, the winner is
[3184.14] Tony: Randomly picked is a kyle g so
[3188.38] Tony: kyle g you need to um
[3191.02] Tony: Somehow contact us andrew if you got any ideas how we can contact us
[3195.26] Frank: So we're on facebook at facebook.com slash let's drone out
[3199.82] Frank: Otherwise you can email us at let's drone out at gmail.com
[3204.3] Tony: So because we need your address to send you your goodies
[3209.42] Dom: Yeah
[3210.46] Dom: We should have a round of applause for that
[3216.32] Tony: Thank you very much. Dom you're useful, aren't you?
[3221.36] Tony: So that that's kyle g
[3223.68] Tony: He's got a picture of him flying a looks like an alien and his profile picture is
[3230.72] Tony: um
[3232.64] Tony: An alien on top of a transmitter
[3236.96] Tony: Uh in the field kyle g
[3239.84] Tony: There we go
[3241.2] Tony: Hopefully i'm saying that right
[3243.2] Tony: So you have won the rotor right hat and two stickers. Well done, mate
[3249.28] Frank: Brilliant
[3250.96] Frank: Okay, so we're coming up to the top top of the hour
[3254.48] Frank: so uh after us we will have
[3257.68] Frank: hannah
[3258.72] Frank: The 3d printing lady coming on with amuseings and talking all about some uh, I think she's got something quite explosive to talk about so
[3267.76] Frank: that could be interesting to listen to but uh
[3271.52] Frank: Uh as i'm still waiting for notice that she's ready
[3276.24] Frank: I'm going to play the queen's cup recording. So fingers crossed
[3281.28] Dom: Here we go. See you soon guys
[3283.12] Cem: Thanks. Dom. Thanks. Jim for coming on. Thank you. Tony for inviting me. Thanks. Dom for your stalling work
[3289.04] Cem: Always help out angry. See you all soon. Thank you. Thank you for coming on
[3293.54] Cem: Thanks
[3299.38] Frank: It's the evening of saturday the 30th of july 2016
[3304.82] Frank: Uh, it's the end of the first day of the queen's cup air race challenge
[3311.46] Frank: Beyond the rotor fest
[3314.1] Frank: Bazing stone and it is the very first let us drone out field recording. I have with me today leo
[3323.38] Frank: Hello, let's drone out people. Yeah
[3326.74] Frank: So yes leo you've done pretty well today. Well pretty well today wouldn't say well, but yeah
[3331.86] Frank: Come on. You got in the top 24. Yeah
[3335.62] Leo: It's quite an intense day. I had uh video problems in the practice and then
[3339.7] Leo: Straight into qualifiers. I had more video issues
[3342.42] Leo: Then I had one round and then I just crashed and then I actually had a few rounds or I got three laps
[3347.38] Leo: So I only had like a total of nine laps, but i'm in the top, uh 15
[3351.46] Frank: Exactly top 15. There were
[3354.1] Frank: 54 people were something registered to come up today
[3357.86] Frank: Two people didn't turn up or didn't race. So one person didn't turn up and one person didn't race because his pop was broken
[3363.54] Frank: Yeah, so there's 52 pilots here
[3365.94] Frank: You know
[3367.14] Frank: And you're in the top 24
[3370.1] Frank: How did you end up in the end?
[3371.86] Leo: What was your ranking? Do you know? What was it? I think i'm either 14 or 13. I'm not sure. Yeah, there you go
[3377.94] Leo: But yeah, that's pretty high ranking out of early I was I was down because I was like, yeah, i'm nowhere
[3383.78] Leo: Got caught with some issues
[3386.1] Leo: But yeah
[3387.3] Leo: pretty happy now
[3389.46] Frank: Good yep, as you should be. Yeah, and then we've got tomorrow. We've got the
[3394.74] Frank: uh
[3395.7] Leo: Last couple of qualifying rounds. Yep, and then on to finals and knock out rounds. I think is how we're doing it
[3401.7] Leo: And yeah, it should be quite intense
[3403.38] Leo: Yeah, people are going to be pushing each other and send
[3405.94] Leo: Either some amazing crashes or some amazing racing will happen. So we'll see. Yeah. Have you booked the tickets for hawaii yet?
[3412.42] Leo: I have not
[3414.26] Leo: Don't know i'm in school at that time. So I don't know whether i'd actually be able to go
[3418.1] Frank: Why are you even here? I don't know. That's the ultimate prize tomorrow. Yeah, the top two pilots are going to walk away
[3424.42] Frank: Very true. Yeah
[3427.78] Leo: Yeah
[3428.9] Leo: I would love to do that. But yeah, I don't think i'm there at the minute
[3431.78] Leo: Come on
[3434.34] Frank: Today we've had gary ken up at the top consistently all the way. Yeah, he's amazing consistent pilot fast
[3443.06] Leo: Thing i have a feeling he will get into hawaii whatever happens. Nah, he's doing really well. He deserves if anyone here
[3450.18] Leo: Yeah, he deserves to go. He's just consistent all weekend
[3453.62] Leo: Rocking it. Yeah, definitely
[3456.58] Leo: Well done
[3457.78] Frank: It's can't try now. It is we've got so the bmfa
[3463.54] Frank: Have just only just returned so they've come back to
[3466.82] Frank: The scene of about a million quads in the air all at once all brightening it all
[3472.34] Leo: So what turned out from phil me and two other people coming down here just for a casual flight with the gate has turned into
[3478.98] Leo: About 20 people here now some people eating dinner and a load of people flying
[3483.78] Leo: And we set up uh three gates and we're just blasting around
[3486.82] Leo: Yeah, because the course has been locked down locked out avoid anyone getting any untowards practices in indeed
[3493.94] Leo: So we've just thrown something together and we're just ripping around
[3497.46] Frank: Letting loose the brotafest flight line has been just abandoned. I think because it was only line of sight
[3505.54] Frank: There's there's something very bright and glowing but i'm not entirely sure that's even from the flight line
[3510.18] Frank: I think that might be from the campsite. Yeah, I think something's just messing around. Yeah
[3514.18] Leo: So yeah, we're down here. We've got a load of brightly
[3517.94] Leo: Neon colored quads. It's all a bit mad. Yeah, there's lots of leds all been shining nicely on leo's
[3525.6] Leo: Facebook live stream in the fpv group. Yeah a bit of fun
[3530.5] Frank: So how many people do you have on there at the end?
[3533.36] Leo: 230 it's all 300. I can't remember a huge amount though good two or three hundred people
[3538.82] Frank: Yeah, I don't know who it was, but there was someone's quads had an led on the back
[3543.86] Frank: That I i'm sure we're gonna have to make rules against it was so bright. Yeah, it's like following a police car
[3550.9] Leo: Mad we've now got a lot
[3553.14] Leo: Tamer leds, but there are a lot more colorful. So yeah, and then there's just someone rocking the standard flashing transponder and dtx lights
[3561.3] Leo: My quad with leds on it doesn't work. So it's just sitting in the car
[3565.3] Leo: Ah
[3567.94] Frank: Yeah, I mean it's it's quite dark and yet everyone's still happily flying around underneath the car
[3572.34] Leo: This is owl cam yet. Yeah, just bump up the contrast and all that and your goggles and you can carry on. Yeah
[3579.78] Frank: If we weren't camping out I think everyone would have given up and gone home about sunset but it's about
[3586.42] Frank: 9 30
[3587.94] Frank: Yeah, so it's a good half hour past sunset. It's the end of civil twilight. Yeah
[3592.66] Leo: And everyone's burning the last of their batteries
[3596.74] Leo: Yeah, quite interesting
[3597.86] Leo: I think a few people actually crashed before they completed a lap so they had batteries with barely any use
[3603.14] Leo: And they were like right i'm not going to charge it up. I'm just going to go out now and belt around
[3607.22] Niall: but yeah
[3609.54] Frank: I think johnny's going up for his third fixed wing that he's going to be flying today
[3614.02] Frank: So he was virtually he doesn't fly that one into a pole
[3617.06] Frank: And now he's flying
[3619.62] Frank: Ever-present very brightly lit plg. That's not a dlg in you
[3624.18] Leo: So that is a dlg fuselage or not
[3627.06] Leo: So a tail and a wing and then there's an fd power pod on it and a load of leds
[3631.94] Leo: And on the back there's a credit card for the other the ailerons. Yeah
[3636.5] Frank: Quite enough authority
[3638.26] Frank: Anyway, so he put on credit card break style stuff. Yeah
[3643.14] Frank: He's just whipping it around the sky
[3645.22] Frank: Yep
[3646.5] Leo: We've got one set of headlights lighting up a bit of the course a couple of gates
[3650.26] Leo: That's actually a mix if everyone did that and we've all put our led headlights on here
[3655.62] Leo: That would be sweet
[3657.22] Leo: We we may have to go and do that now. Yeah, we might have to just having one looks awesome
[3661.62] Frank: So what what have you got coming up because you were talking talking earlier to johnny about your wing
[3667.76] Leo: Expedition. Yep. So that'll be coming out soon. I guess yeah a group of us went up to the lakeshrix
[3672.6] Leo: And flew wings and quads up in the mountains and yeah followed the terrain down to the proximity stuff
[3679.32] Leo: Yeah, that was really good
[3682.12] Leo: See that and wait for it. So I post a lot on instagram as at leo withers fpv
[3688.28] Leo: And on youtube as leo withers fpv
[3691.0] Leo: Um, how do you spell that?
[3694.04] Leo: W h i t c e r s there we go. And uh, yeah, you should find some stuff on there and uh,
[3700.68] Leo: There's a short edit from diving down a gully with a quad but there is some wing stuff coming out
[3706.28] Leo: But we're doing a group edit for that. So we'll post that somewhere any other projects coming up?
[3711.16] Leo: uh
[3712.12] Leo: I'm preparing at the moment for the euro cup in abita
[3716.12] Leo: And formula fpv really and until then it's just going to be practicing building wings and
[3722.76] Leo: Having a chilled out summer really
[3725.56] Leo: This year last competition until formula fpv at least from fpv
[3730.12] Frank: Yeah, i'm sure we'll have lots of talking about formula fpv. No, it's gonna be amazing
[3735.56] Frank: I'm sure last year whenever this is being broadcast there will be chime in the chat. Yeah plugging it away
[3742.2] Frank: Yeah, so hello cham in the future. Yep
[3746.12] Frank: Yeah, so that will be the next big event I think
[3749.16] Frank: Well, thank you very much leo. It's all right joining me on the very first. Let's throw it out field recording
[3754.76] Niall: Yeah, we'll see what the quality is like. Yeah, hopefully we'll get hopefully that audio isn't exploding
[3780.04] Frank: It's the second day of the queen's cup
[3783.08] SpecialK?: And i'm here with chris
[3785.56] SpecialK?: Hi, um, yeah, my name's chris
[3789.08] SpecialK?: Yes
[3790.28] SpecialK?: My first race i've ever been to so
[3792.52] SpecialK?: I've never had the opportunity to approach racing or flying gates or fly of anyone else really so I thought you know
[3799.32] SpecialK?: What a better way to come down here and and have a go and probably chose a bit of a hard race to start off with
[3806.12] Frank: This is a really tight course. It's like loads going through tight bits of trees
[3810.44] Frank: Exactly. Yeah, we've got the nets on the side that are like
[3814.52] SpecialK?: Minefields to go into it's it's for me. It's not really a case of how many laps but uh, can I finish one?
[3821.08] SpecialK?: disasters happen
[3823.08] SpecialK?: yesterday, I was just
[3825.32] SpecialK?: In the qualifying round and uh, I just have a pretty brutal crash. I was 100 sure I was out the out the game there
[3831.32] SpecialK?: I was a bit upset and uh, luke banister came up to me and actually just
[3836.12] SpecialK?: He just said
[3837.32] SpecialK?: Dude, take my quad, you know gave me one of his spare quads. We whacked a btx on it
[3841.64] SpecialK?: Dialed my rates into it and he said go it's yours for a weekend now
[3845.72] SpecialK?: And I was just blown away, you know, it was so nice to be out to just one get back out onto the racetrack
[3852.04] SpecialK?: Well, it was just a quad. It wasn't experience. You know, so dialed in and you know, it was fast
