[16.14] Jack: Which I haven't pressed our on
[21.34] Jack: Hello, I'm welcome to let's drone out someone please play the intro music cuz I'm going lined up
[26.7] Jack: Tony is going to be joining in about three minutes because he's a laptop's been on since 7.30
[32.1] Adam: So it's clearly steam powered tonight. We are joined by
[36.74] Jack: none other
[39.26] Jack: Than Adam Juniper
[41.78] Jack: Hi boys and girls Frank who's not talking
[45.98] Jack: I'm not talking
[47.98] Jack: I'm not talking
[49.98] Jack: I'm not talking
[51.98] Adam: I'm not talking
[53.98] Jack: Frank who's not talking but it's nice to know he's with us in spirit
[62.71] Jack: We've got
[64.11] Jack: above you
[65.83] Jae: Haha, yes, that's B. Probably known as Chipco or J. Mostly. We've got a little stowaway called nj tech. Hello. Good evening
[77.15] Jack: BS BMS Thomas
[81.31] Jack: Hello
[83.31] Jack: and
[84.87] Paul: And we have also he's daddy BMS Paul or BMS web. I think I'll go by BMS web
[91.11] Thomas: Yeah, they miss we've done. I really don't believe the reason this is BMS Thomas because this is my Google Hangout account thing
[97.71] Jack: Okay
[99.07] Jack: That makes sense. I can hear us lightly in the background. Yeah, dad. I think
[104.67] Paul: That's good. Yeah, I'd like I have my laptop nearby. Sorry about that. I just kill it
[110.15] Adam: It's nice to know we've got one listener. Yep
[115.15] Jack: Yep, but anyone who wants to use the chat it is on
[120.11] Jack: powering on
[121.43] Jack: dot code at UK
[123.35] Jack: you can post your questions and
[126.19] Jack: Comments in there and periodically we will read them out and we just want to say thank you guys for joining us
[132.79] Jack: I can't believe it's like five in the morning there for you. I'm so sorry
[139.07] Paul: That's alright Thomas is actually on school holiday, so it's not so bad
[142.11] Paul: Um, it just means we're gonna get up and go flying after this. Yeah
[145.95] Jack: Can't wait. Is it gonna be the usual spot cut the dies over the old trees and that
[151.15] Paul: Yeah, usually I suppose we'll pick one of the spots depending what we want to do
[154.15] Paul: I mean, we've got the Thomas got Hawaii coming up
[156.43] Paul: So probably could do some more boring training which is gonna be race training and things along those lines want it
[160.07] Paul: Well, you find a boring training. Yeah, Thomas, you know, you just go around with you
[165.35] Jae: It's coming to a season now, isn't it? I mean you're you're having the good weather coming along the like, you know better weather
[171.47] Paul: Well, well
[173.39] Paul: It's meant to be better. This is the irony
[176.95] Paul: Hittings on Melbourne's weather is I suppose not as I assume not as bad as what it was like in Britain
[182.55] Paul: But um, we get four seasons in the one day
[185.19] Paul: It's been spring now for a little while and it doesn't we were wearing snow jackets
[189.63] Paul: We were flying and we'll probably be wearing snow jackets again today flying. So it's that cold
[194.27] Adam: Wow, I think we in this country tend to assume that everyone else's weather is better than ours, but we forget
[201.05] Paul: Yeah, I think I think you're actually correct because we've got a lot of British guys over here
[204.97] Paul: And when I complain about our weather they laugh at me, you know
[207.11] Paul: They're being like dude, it's not so bad. I mean go to Brittany. He's running most of the time, you know
[212.03] Paul: So, uh, we get like a little bit of a drizzle and we're like, oh we can't fly
[215.65] Adam: I'd always imagined that most of America was fine and all the pictures of San Francisco had seen have been absolutely beautiful
[221.81] Adam: You know that bridge the sky and all the rest of it when you get there the places fog for 90% of the time
[230.73] Paul: It's pretty mind-blowing, isn't it when you get different actors and see what the weather's like
[238.61] Jack: The only the only good thing about
[241.69] Jack: Also, how's my sound now guys people in the chat you sound good. Yeah. Sorry about that
[247.69] Jack: Yeah, the only the only good thing about the British weather is when you walk out the door, it doesn't smack you in the face
[253.29] Jack: You know what?
[255.53] Adam: It lets you get far enough out of the house that you think the clothes you chose were fine
[259.57] Adam: And then it gets you
[261.61] Jack: yeah, and you can never have an umbrella when you live a seaside town because
[267.81] Jack: It's always too windy. So it's pointy. You just have to get wet. It's great
[274.49] Adam: About the weather
[281.45] Adam: I've been in photokina, which is the every other year. It's the biggest photography show in the world
[287.33] Adam: So admittedly these are not racers
[290.69] Adam: But I've just been touching the new
[294.77] Adam: GoPro drone, which is fantastic
[298.05] Adam: with a slide out
[300.41] Adam: handle so you've got a
[302.25] Adam: You know portable gimbal with a battery in and you can then slide that into the aircraft shell
[307.65] Adam: Pull the flip out arms and it flies off as well. So you've got all the stuff that DJ I sell in one go
[315.29] Adam: And it does mean you have to buy the new GoPro for hero 5
[319.33] Adam: Did you fly it? They wouldn't let me fly in the hall. No
[324.41] Jae: So it looks good and it sounds good, but we don't know yet. I think it'll be all right
[329.77] Adam: I mean it won't be it's not gonna race is it? I
[333.93] Adam: I had I had some DJI branded beer
[338.57] Adam: So that was that was nice what
[341.05] Jack: That is a real
[343.05] Jack: The other day I found out from Ben Portman and that apparently like with the pre-ordered
[350.65] Jack: Fat shark goggles, you've got a pair of underwear boxers. I never knew about that. I was like what?
[360.53] Jack: Are you guys looking forward to getting hold of the new GoPro hero 5 and smashing it up and then sending it to a blog
[371.53] Paul: But that was actually my handiwork smashing the I go pro hero for that's yet
[376.13] Paul: That's the irony the only GoPro I've actually broken is a GoPro here for for black edition
[380.79] Paul: Which was my part and joy and it was the most
[384.89] Thomas: So it was just wasn't a climactic crash in the face of the planet
[388.89] Thomas: yes, it's like imagine being like only 10 degrees tilted over and you just like clip an arm a wall and
[396.81] Thomas: Somehow the GoPro manages to exploit itself
[399.61] Adam: Did you put all of the force into the into the camera rather than the rest of the cross?
[404.41] Thomas: Yeah, look it will hit on verse. I'm thinking maybe was the app just the way it
[409.17] Thomas: hit that it must have
[411.01] Thomas: Put some strange force on the GoPro or something. Admittedly, it was all concrete
[414.33] Paul: It was an indoor area, but it was realistic. It was the most uneventful accident ever. I couldn't believe it
[421.37] Adam: Yeah, and GoPro they do kind of sell it on the whole action thing
[424.49] Adam: Don't know it's not like it says this is super delicate on the side
[429.53] Thomas: No, not at all, but put my GoPro through hell
[432.89] Paul: Well Thomas as I'll say it he doesn't work and hasn't been working for about the last two years on his GoPro hero
[438.37] Paul: Three pluses it like a vision. Yeah, and that one's still going strong
[443.13] NJ: Yeah, I have the same thing. I have the same thing with my I have a GoPro black
[448.89] NJ: Literally, it must be no more than a mile a half away from where I live and I know it's out there in a field somewhere
[454.45] NJ: Oh, yeah, the silvers have been fine
[457.01] NJ: I've never had a problem like they've got bashed up and they're fine
[459.73] NJ: But my black is out there somewhere and I say the same thing every time you can take the camera
[464.17] NJ: Just leave me the footage, please
[467.57] Adam: Everyone knows mine is somewhere in a bloody forest in what's the hill behind Brighton called?
[474.85] Jack: Devil's like
[476.29] Adam: Yeah, no. Yeah, well you go up on the bus. Don't run a nice trip. Anyway, I'm you know
[482.29] Adam: If anyone finds it do please send me the footage and then keep the camera
[486.25] Jae: Mine's washed out to France somewhere has it got washed away with the river my three
[491.21] Adam: I don't know where in the world it is. Now. It could be anywhere
[498.61] Jack: Is that you're flying
[500.97] Jack: I've lost a year up devil's dyke devil's dyke is like the worst place ever to like look constantly lose stuff
[508.85] Adam: It's so well the winds change so quickly
[512.09] Adam: Yeah
[514.85] Adam: It's such a dramatic view it so it's so worthwhile right up until it goes
[520.97] Paul: Well, it's like that isn't it that's the worst thing I think we've never actually lost the camera have we we've lost the memory card
[526.33] Paul: Oh, we have we have that's right
[528.33] Paul: but it hasn't been anything expensive which is um, I think if I had a choice of losing a camera or
[534.49] Paul: Breaking it I pick breaking it any day because that way at least I know it's gone and I haven't got the
[540.25] Paul: That sinking feeling knowing your GoPro's out there or your camera's out there
[543.53] NJ: I still have it. I still have it like it's it's been about a year, but I know it's there somewhere
[548.17] Jae: So suppose they're like gosh, you don't want your pet to turn up missing. You would rather it dead. So you had that closure
[563.53] Frank: Careful Tony's in the corner
[566.09] Adam: I
[567.37] Adam: guess it would be different if we knew that maybe it had been picked up by somebody who was down on their luck and had sold it and
[572.65] Adam: They've bought some you know food to sustain them or you know extra strong lager or something that they really needed
[579.61] Adam: but
[581.29] Paul: It's just the fact that it's actually out there on its own
[584.33] Paul: And it's not being used and no one has it and it's just this this piece of technology going to waste
[590.01] Paul: Kind of like a pick on lost or something like that
[593.05] Jack: Oh
[595.37] Jack: Yesterday
[596.73] Jack: The other day I got a an email a correction
[601.45] Jack: um
[602.65] Jack: So yeah, I just want to write this wrong because here at let's go now
[606.41] Jack: We believe in, you know speaking the truth telling it how it is
[610.09] Jack: And uh, yeah, I've got a lovely email. Um, dear jack, uh, you're an idiot
[615.77] Jack: Um, you've got this wrong
[617.77] Jack: um
[618.65] Jack: hang on and
[620.01] Jack: Yep, it's totally useless the tbs crossfire. It's illegal in every country except for the uk because you in the uk you said
[627.77] Jack: On your show that it was illegal. Come on guys do a bit of research. It literally took five seconds
[634.57] Jack: of google, um
[636.25] Jack: The exception that says eight to six millihertz i've got a whole ww.offcom
[642.33] Jack: link
[643.93] Jack: Apparently you can use those signals, but they are used by a mobile telephone
[649.69] Jack: Um company, so yeah, i've got an awful email and it's from dan upton. Thank you
[655.37] Adam: Let's hear you down. I mean, thank you for that useful contribution. Yeah
[660.73] Jack: So i'll post i'll post the uh the link on that on the um
[666.01] Jack: On the fpv hub
[668.49] Jack: So, uh, yeah jack was wrong. I thought my source
[672.49] Jack: Was reliable. So, uh painless 360 you're listening to this
[677.29] Jack: And you told me that the crossfire was illegal. Um, i've got some notes for you and an email to forward on to you
[683.85] Jack: So I know that's storing you under the bus
[688.25] Jack: But in fairness emails about this now
[691.05] Adam: In fairness jack also to the research point if we did stop for 10 seconds to research everything we said it would be a pretty slow
[697.69] Adam: show
[699.21] Jack: It is now anyway, um
[701.61] Jack: Yo, this this asks these guys some questions. I have been following you guys
[706.57] Jack: Way longer than I can remember and you made it onto my favorites playlist where you guys were chasing each other
[714.17] Jack: On the beach playing. Um
[716.97] Jack: Oh, what is it? Uh, so like finding nirvana or something like that. What's the impression of art nirvana, isn't it?
[722.49] Jack: Yeah, yeah, that's it. Yeah, and you were you were it was just brilliant
[726.25] Jack: You know, you even did like a little let's fly where you spoke over at the commentary as well
[732.17] Jack: And how you guys managed to do that because you guys were locked in on each other
[737.05] Jack: And I can't even remember
[738.73] Jack: You know that that that was before kiss and everything wasn't it but you still had some aliens
[744.25] Paul: Yeah, that's that's right. Look, I think um thomas has really been the one that's been pretty epic at following. Haven't you?
[750.33] Paul: I'm, all right. Yeah, he's he's been pretty modest about it. But yeah, it's um, it's it's interesting. We're sort of
[756.65] Paul: Um thomas is really good at following. Uh, I'm and i'm really good at communicating with him
[761.77] Paul: As in getting the information over to him as uh, I suppose as quickly as possible and thomas is terrible at communicating
[767.69] Paul: Thomas is terrible at communicating
[769.21] Thomas: Like he'll just give you an idea of the one of the last times we tried to follow each other
[773.21] Thomas: We were in a park yet as always and you know
[776.09] Thomas: It's not really a forest, but there's lots of trees around and i'm like to dad. Okay in three seconds
[781.45] Thomas: I'm going to turn around the tree
[783.53] Paul: Turn around the tree the tree, which is the tree. Is it to my left?
[786.57] Paul: Is it to my right? Is it ahead of me in the rain?
[788.41] Paul: So his communication is really really really pretty quite poor. So um, but no look, I think the following footage
[794.09] Paul: We'd love doing that don't we?
[795.77] Paul: Yeah, it's so much fun. I think it's nice seeing a quadcopter or even an aircraft in here
[800.49] Paul: Luke banister just did a video um with wings
[802.81] Paul: We just watched this morning and that's a really really epic video if you haven't seen it
[807.13] Paul: It's really worth watching. It's a really close proximity chase footage. I don't know whether you guys have seen that or not
[813.21] Jack: Um leo was talking about it earlier on
[817.13] Jack: Um in the chat i'm powering on
[820.65] Jack: I haven't seen it. I haven't had chance i've i've been setting up. It's really it's really good footage really good footage, isn't it?
[826.33] Thomas: It is. Yeah
[828.01] Thomas: I know whose quad was the leading quad. I like where they put the leds
[832.81] Paul: You mean uh wing duchy?
[834.81] Paul: Oh, yeah, that was wing chasing. Sorry. I keep that language. It's too early for us
[840.17] Jack: I know
[843.05] Jack: Oh my gosh, yeah you won. Okay, you won the um, australian nationals well done
[850.73] Jack: Thanks
[853.13] Paul: Yes, go on tom better
[855.13] Paul: What is that? I bet this rain nationals. He said modest if i talk about you
[858.33] Paul: Yeah, we'll talk about it. If you if you ask him a question about anything
[861.13] Paul: He'll actually really elaborate he'll open up about it and tell you all about this that whatever
[865.29] Paul: But if you ask him anything about things that he's buying he's like, oh, yeah. Yep. Okay, you know what I mean?
[870.33] Paul: He went through and actually won the race and he was also fortunate enough to actually win the um acro too, wasn't it?
[877.37] Thomas: Yeah somehow
[878.81] Jack: I am
[880.65] Jack: So proud of you for using a gopro as well
[886.17] Paul: Well, yeah, that was his choice. Um, the the problem he had was uh, you've got the 2k
[891.37] Paul: You wanted you to find the issue that you had
[893.85] Thomas: Um, well the issue was originally the acro was going to be a hd camera only
[898.79] Thomas: Competition, but then on the day they changed it to it's just an option
[903.69] Thomas: So my only quad that can carry a camera right now
[907.85] Thomas: Is the alien six inch and the helix is 45 degrees tilt as opposed to 35
[913.93] Thomas: And on top of that the helix is a super fast speedy
[918.89] Thomas: Crazy machine while the um
[922.25] Thomas: The acro chords a bit of a bus compared to that
[925.13] Thomas: So adapting to the gopro is going to be hard in itself and then adapting straight back for the racing
[931.93] Thomas: Back to the helix was what I was scared of and I basically thought I was just going to make a mistake in the crash
[937.69] Thomas: but
[938.65] Thomas: thankfully
[940.17] Paul: I didn't collect anything. Well, what he said to me was he wasn't sure about what to use
[943.93] Paul: He asked me because look do I go to the gopro quad or do I stick with the acro?
[947.85] Paul: I'm sorry with the race quad
[949.53] Paul: Um, and uh, just do my acro with that i'm gonna have more of a chance, you know doing well with the um,
[955.13] Paul: Race quad because that's what i've been flying
[957.29] Paul: So, uh, I asked him what do you want to do? I go what would be the
[960.97] Paul: What are you actually after he was after the gopro footage weren't you?
[963.69] Thomas: Uh, yeah, I wanted to I was reading the mind
[965.69] Paul: He really wanted the gopro footage. I said, okay
[967.29] Paul: So what if you used the gopro and got gopro footage of your acro, but you lost the acro
[973.29] Paul: Um, and then you went through because the camera angle change lost in the race smashed into a gate and it's over
[979.37] Paul: But you've walked away from the Australian nationals with just gopro footage of yourself competing in the acro
[985.05] Paul: Would you be happy with that? And he said yes, I would wouldn't you? Yeah, so um
[990.09] Paul: As a result he went out there and just flew what he wanted to fly didn't you?
[993.85] Thomas: Pretty much and somehow
[996.09] Thomas: They decided that I won
[998.41] Paul: So yeah, no, I'd actually the irony was I they'd already awarded the race win
[1002.65] Paul: and I'd walked away at that stage and started packing things up and um
[1007.21] Paul: When they announced the acro, they mentioned his name as the winner and I was miles away, wasn't I?
[1011.93] Paul: Yeah, so I never I never never got back and got a photograph of you. Did I?
[1016.33] Paul: Oh, not for the acro. Not for the acro. No, I didn't so. Yeah, he looked he did really well
[1019.37] Paul: He did really well. He was trained hard. He's worked hard. So yeah
[1024.12] NJ: Brilliant stuff. Well done. Thomas. Good job
[1026.44] Jack: Yeah, good doing man. You're slaying it teach um teach final glider lesson who's real
[1034.52] Jack: Um, what is the helix like
[1038.28] Thomas: Um, it's really really good for it's kind of it's the next configuration like a lot of the new races going
[1044.04] Thomas: Yeah, um, one thing that's awesome about it though
[1046.6] Thomas: Is that it's got that integrated pdb of flight controller on one board and then it's got the
[1053.64] Thomas: Ah, no, it's a custom one just for the helix. Oh, okay
[1057.8] Thomas: Yeah, and it cleans up the build heaps and um
[1062.92] Thomas: It's epic because it's
[1065.24] Thomas: It's pretty much a full racer
[1067.72] Thomas: But then you've also still got good serviceability
[1070.68] Thomas: So like for example, I blew up one of the uh flight controller pdb's recently
[1075.4] Paul: He actually crashed at any decor on fire
[1078.36] Paul: Um, and obviously that short circuit or something and kill flight controller went
[1082.44] Thomas: Yeah, and we were able to switch everything out in about 10 minutes and have it all flash ready to go again flying
[1089.32] Thomas: So
[1090.28] Thomas: You've got pretty much a full race frame, but it assembles really well
[1094.52] Paul: It's worth mentioning too that what what he's actually flying with at the moment are prototype, uh frames
[1099.4] Paul: Uh, he he got a prototype. Um, you got the first one outside of uh,
[1103.64] Paul: Impulse and that was back in may
[1106.2] Paul: Uh, and the irony was they brought it over to him a week after his birthday
[1110.28] Paul: So he got a hand-delivered completely built quad for him to test and try it and provide them with feedback, wasn't it?
[1117.08] Jack: Yep
[1118.2] Jack: using the gopro 2 lens
[1122.04] Thomas: Uh, no i'm using his standard japanese
[1126.2] Thomas: You can on the on my ones you can yeah, we got the new plate so you can um, the helix
[1131.96] Thomas: Pretty sure can take the gopro one. Um
[1135.48] Thomas: Why did our screen just turn off what? Oh, here we go. Um
[1139.24] Thomas: So yeah, if you can take the up to the 2.5 gopro, I think i'm not sure if you can go any like with the thicker
[1146.92] Thomas: Lenses, I think you can I think you can yeah
[1149.16] Thomas: I can't remember what it could take they just recently redesigned it again before the release
[1152.92] Paul: They've modified the top place because originally it was set to uh, I think you only run the 2.8 mil lenses the standard lenses
[1159.24] Paul: and um
[1161.0] Paul: The team pilots when they received that some of them were using the 2.1s
[1164.44] Paul: so they made some modification changes and
[1167.24] Paul: Believe it can take the 2.1s now tom has actually raced with the 2.8
[1171.72] Jae: Okay, I you know what over here 2.8 seems quite rare. I've liked 2.8 for a bit, especially if i'm trying to aim for a gap
[1179.16] Jae: Um, but most people on 2.1 over here
[1182.76] Paul: Well, i'll i'll share you my with my experience with 2.1 was uh, everyone was telling me that 2.1 is better
[1189.72] Paul: And soon as I put 2.1 on I loved it. Absolutely loved it, right? There was nothing I didn't like about it
[1195.8] Paul: I could see around corners. It just felt right
[1198.76] Paul: The only problem was at the time it was just before a race meet
[1202.36] Paul: And thomas was timing my laps and all my laps were slower
[1206.2] Paul: And after about 30 packs, I couldn't get back up to the same speed
[1210.04] Paul: Um, I gave up and went back to 2.8. So
[1213.56] Paul: If you talked about if you asked me what did it feel like it felt fantastic
[1217.24] Paul: There's just no two ways about it all but I couldn't get my speed back up to um
[1221.96] Paul: The times I was doing with uh the 2.8
[1225.96] Paul: So as a result, I dropped the 2.1 and um thomas was able to get to back to his speeds wouldn't you?
[1231.4] Thomas: I was like if it was early race
[1234.2] Thomas: I'd be better off on 2.1
[1235.64] Thomas: Like if for some reason I missed out on a practice or something I could easily
[1239.24] Thomas: Get quick times on a 2.1
[1241.56] Thomas: But I found once i'd learned to track on 2.8. I could go so much faster with fine tuning
[1247.24] Thomas: That
[1248.36] Thomas: For me, I was just like I'm just gonna trade off the field of view and the ability to
[1253.24] Thomas: Learn the track as quickly for precision
[1256.76] Paul: It's it's worth mentioning in tune with thomas. Um, he is a bit of a freak in that he can quickly adapt
[1262.44] Paul: To virtually any quad like insanely quickly, uh, you know one or two packs and he's
[1268.12] Paul: In tune with the quad and he can fly just about anything
[1271.08] Paul: so um
[1272.28] Paul: But that's not the norm for most people takes a little while to get used to a different quad and
[1275.72] Thomas: Well, i've been lucky though because with the reviews and stuff like that you get to fly a lot of different quads. So
[1280.92] Paul: That's true. Actually, so he's got a lot easier
[1283.08] Thomas: You've got used to flying different quads over and over and over again. Haven't you? Well, you've only flown realistically about three different quads
[1288.52] NJ: Yeah, I think there's there's an argument as well for it's a real horses for courses, uh kind of thing. I mean i've found
[1296.52] NJ: Certainly with the uh, the freestyle stuff, especially if you're doing anything that involves backwards flying
[1301.88] NJ: It's really advantageous to have that 2.1 field of view
[1306.04] NJ: But of course because it it gives you such a wild wide field of view
[1310.44] NJ: Your distance anything in the distance is suddenly compressed so much that you know, if you're looking for a gate those things become
[1318.04] NJ: Very difficult to hit. So I think there is a kind of argument for 2.1 being a really great freestyle lens, but obviously
[1326.12] NJ: Down to a 2.5 or a 2.8 is much more advantageous for racing
[1330.6] Paul: Yeah, look, I think you hit the nail on the head. It's um, whatever works for you. That's
[1335.96] Paul: You've got to go
[1337.24] Paul: Some things work for some pilots and other things work for others
[1340.2] Paul: So, um, if it works for you, that's the only thing that really really counts because I mean there's arguments for everything
[1345.4] Paul: People will go racing and say well
[1347.24] Paul: Um running the 2.8
[1348.84] Paul: You can't actually see where you're turning if you've got to turn say around a flag and then hit a gate
[1353.8] Paul: Because you can't sort of see around in it
[1356.36] Paul: towards the size of the screen
[1358.92] Paul: They're saying well that makes it actually harder
[1361.88] Paul: Flying the track. So um
[1363.96] NJ: Yeah, I think that's that's another thing, isn't it knowing it knowing the track before you turn up or knowing the layout
[1370.2] NJ: Uh that then gives you the advantage if you want to go to 2.8 knowing where you should be turning left or right
[1375.24] NJ: But if if you're if not, then yeah, absolutely something a little wider will let you see that on the side
[1381.56] NJ: Uh, yeah a lot easier. Yeah, it's interesting
[1384.6] Paul: Can you guys look it's it's one of those concepts
[1386.84] Paul: It's really really hard to get your head around what's right and what's wrong
[1389.16] Paul: I mean someone turns around says this is the absolute correct lens
[1391.88] Paul: I just think well, it's the correct lens for you, but it may not be for me or someone else. I'm still you're funny
[1398.84] Paul: I'm still in between and torn. I mean like thomas flew the acro
[1401.56] Paul: I mean, this is another thing if you're doing a acro competition
[1404.6] Paul: um
[1406.28] Paul: If you were running a 2.8 like thomas was because thomas likes the precision of the 2.8
[1410.6] Paul: That's a major disadvantage because the footage looks
[1413.96] Paul: Any movement looks quite abrupt in it. It doesn't look smooth. Yeah, um
[1419.48] Paul: Downside so if you've got a 2.8 lens versus a 2.1
[1423.0] Paul: The footage from the 2.1 will always look much much better. It's no different to thomas's race footage
[1428.2] Paul: One of the problems we have is when you compare his race footage to someone else's race footage
[1431.96] Paul: You're comparing a 2.1 to a 2.8
[1434.44] Paul: So it's hard to tell how your speed compares to another pilot
[1438.68] Paul: um
[1439.96] NJ: So it's it does create
[1442.44] NJ: So have you tried right down the middle have you tried the 2.5 because I I did and I
[1446.84] NJ: I'm still not sure how I feel about it. I think I like one or the other but
[1450.68] NJ: 2.5 is a pretty big everyone's been suggesting the 2.5
[1453.96] Thomas: So it's one of the things we've got to try got one recently. So I want to put that in an acro quad
[1458.92] Thomas: Um and see how that is especially too with how the hawaii one's going to be judged by video
[1464.6] Thomas: And i'm thinking it could be worth having
[1468.2] Thomas: the illusion of speed
[1470.12] Paul: And also the illusion of smoothness
[1472.28] Thomas: Yeah
[1474.12] Paul: So yeah, so I mean the other the other advantage is to um
[1477.88] Paul: With the 2.8
[1479.72] Paul: If you're running a hd camera like a gopro or something like that if you're running 2.8
[1485.32] Paul: Every one of your movements have to be that extra bit smooth. Um
[1488.84] Paul: Because it just looks terrible in the fpv
[1491.16] Paul: so
[1492.2] Paul: If you're striving to get those movements smoother and smoother when you look at the hd footage, it just looks
[1498.92] Paul: Pretty epic doesn't it? Like it's really really smooth because you've had to be that little bit more precise
[1503.48] Paul: So that's another advantage with running the 2.8
[1505.64] Paul: But you look that's there's pros and cons to both of them
[1508.52] Paul: And if someone turned around to me said what's the best lens my answer would be i've got absolutely no idea
[1513.88] NJ: I think that's great
[1521.36] Jae: He's still running that 2.5 on your uh
[1524.32] NJ: Fast beast neil. Yeah. Yeah, I am. Well, I did I put that on my my
[1529.6] NJ: My x-racer. Um, just because I didn't want too much of a departure from from what I normally fly for freestyle stuff
[1535.76] NJ: Which is the 2.1
[1537.44] NJ: And it was nice. I could tell it there wasn't too much of a departure. It did still feel good. But um,
[1543.92] NJ: uh
[1545.04] NJ: It also takes away a little bit of having to have that up tilt angle so critically right. Um
[1551.92] NJ: And I think when you flying 2.8 on a very very fast machine getting the up tilt on a 2.8
[1559.52] NJ: Is is quite a critical sweet spot
[1561.76] NJ: Whereas a 2.5 is a little more forgiving and obviously a 2.1
[1566.56] NJ: You can almost run the thing flat and whatever angle you put the corner you can just you can just see
[1571.2] NJ: um
[1572.0] NJ: so but but yeah for for
[1574.0] NJ: For something that moves as fast as that x uh that I have I I think the 2.5 again
[1579.92] NJ: it's always so subjective as as Paul and Thomas have said but
[1584.0] NJ: Um, the 2.5 for me is working working pretty well
[1588.0] Paul: Here look, I think the 2.5 is something that we have to try for sure. Um, one of the biggest
[1592.56] Paul: Issues we have we had people over. Um, and Thomas was flying his race quad
[1596.48] Paul: This is the one previous to the helix
[1598.64] Paul: And they come over for a flight with us and Thomas did the most amazing display for this thing was just hiking
[1604.4] Paul: Look, it was just so fast taking these tiny gaps doing overunders at insane speeds
[1608.88] Paul: Like he was powering down through the overunders
[1611.12] Paul: So he's like, you know coming straight through really really fast
[1614.0] Paul: These guys were totally blown away
[1616.08] Paul: And Thomas has come up the battery has come to land and he's pulled it caught up probably
[1620.72] Paul: Um about I'd say, you know 20 feet away from us
[1623.6] Paul: But he's probably about 15 feet or so up in the air and then he just cuts throttle and just slams into the ground
[1629.04] Paul: And the reason for that was he couldn't actually see the ground. He thought he was actually on the ground
[1632.64] Paul: But because he's only right because he's only running the 2.8
[1635.52] Paul: He thought it was down low, but he wasn't but it looks funny because he did this most epic display and the most
[1640.64] Paul: Absolute shocking landing wasn't it? Yeah, I break props on landing a lot
[1645.92] Paul: That's another disadvantage. I mean we can't see the ground
[1648.08] Paul: I mean we've got people running 65 degree camera tilt and they can see the ground perfectly when they're coming into land
[1653.76] Paul: Uh, we're running 45 degree camera tilt where thomas is running 45 degree camera tilt and we can't see the ground at all
[1659.52] NJ: Yeah, we call those arrivals thomas not not hard landings. Just say it's just an arrival
[1665.92] Paul: We'll run with that one. What do you reckon? Yeah
[1668.8] Jack: Guys, what were your first quads?
[1672.16] Jack: Um first quads ever
[1674.56] Paul: Yep
[1676.16] Thomas: Um, so I guess that'd be the v939 which is like a little ladybird quad. Ah, that's right
[1680.72] Thomas: Yes, it was and I think the first you want to go for first fpv quad that would be a for me
[1685.92] Thomas: It would be a flame wheel 450
[1688.08] NJ: Did you?
[1691.12] NJ: Don't get upset jack, but that's the same one I had too. So i'm in that corner
[1695.52] Jae: My first fpv one was a warthox, uh fly dreino frame
[1701.84] Jae: Fun memories
[1703.36] Jack: Knuckle h quads. Um, well, no actually no tell I uh, an anycopter kk2 made of wood
[1715.36] Paul: Yeah, yeah
[1716.96] Paul: So you guys have been doing it for a while then
[1718.96] Jack: Oh man, i'm prehistoric. Like I mean i haven't been doing it since the dawn of time like tony
[1724.32] Jack: I don't think anyone has
[1726.0] Adam: Well jack was building them out of wood by the time everyone else was buying proper parts though. You just like it
[1732.24] Jack: Yeah, I like wood wood is good. Like tony's tony's first cord was made out of dinosaur bone
[1739.04] Jack: Is tony still there tony he's there he hasn't said a word like no retaliation
[1744.88] Jack: I bet he's going mad or he's got or he has actually bought a voodoo doll and he is sticking pins
[1751.2] Adam: Or he's swearing away at you, but he's he's not worked out the silencer button
[1755.44] Jack: Yeah, I mean he dobbed me in I missed the swear word on the last episode
[1759.68] Jack: You know the the one that's like an hour and a half long and then
[1764.0] Jack: right into the chat
[1765.84] Jack: Dobbed me in oh you missed it on the 10 minute mark
[1770.4] Jack: At least he didn't complain to broadcasting standards. Oh
[1774.64] Jack: Doesn't doesn't have a little quiet word with me. Oh, no, he's left. He's upset
[1781.36] Jae: Tony if he wasn't upset before he is now
[1784.56] Jack: Tony just grass me up
[1787.28] Jae: Oh and live jack i'm sure I know
[1790.4] Jae: I mean to be fair to be fair on the show you did actually say. Oh, we we don't have to worry about swearing
[1794.88] Jae: Yeah, I know we can we can swear on my youtube man. Don't worry about it
[1800.72] Adam: Sorry internet, but i'm sure you've heard those words tony has had internet worries. So he might be just
[1806.56] Jack: We let add him here and he says
[1810.88] Jack: Sorry, i'm listening to you
[1813.84] Jack: He's just moved
[1816.88] Tony: I've been listening to the aura rants about 2.1 and 2.5
[1821.04] Tony: Etc
[1822.48] Jae: Oh
[1823.44] Jae: It's an interesting topic. I think because it is
[1826.24] Adam: Your field of view from the start of synergy start flying. It's it's off the top of anyone's head. What are the efls for?
[1834.0] Adam: Real photography
[1836.81] Frank: Do you know that equivalent focal lengths? That is that is what it is, isn't it?
[1841.61] Frank: Like the 2.3 and 2.4 it is just that wide angle
[1848.01] Adam: Surely not it'd be like 28 or you mean the equivalent as in for yeah, I know what you mean
[1855.77] Frank: I have no idea what the size of the ccds are but they're tiny so
[1861.21] Jack: Yeah
[1862.25] Jack: It's how it feels. I'd say I have had a ps. Um
[1866.41] Jack: I got I got told off that uh
[1869.13] Jack: Basically adam jay, you guys need to talk about phantom stuff a bit more
[1875.21] Adam: Jay and I are gonna set up our own show so we talk about that stuff, right?
[1879.77] Jack: Yeah
[1885.21] Jack: And freestyle I prefer freestyle you you guys eggs and spoons is where it's at
[1891.05] Jack: eggs and tomatoes and spoons
[1893.77] Jae: I don't know whether you
[1896.09] Jae: I I'd like to start a race circuit next year and just practice a bit
[1899.93] Jae: But i've always just enjoyed flying straight around in the air, but I don't think nj will let you
[1906.09] Jack: very nice
[1911.69] Jack: Jay, uh, let me tell you a story. Uh, paul and thomas jay
[1916.65] Jack: Um, you know old school flyer flu fix wing got got into the old dronos
[1923.21] Jack: Uh, it's got himself a vnuk
[1925.93] Jack: And and you know, he's been flying 450 kind of stuff and then um, you know
[1931.05] Jack: He started to get into mini quad racing and stuff
[1934.01] Jack: And yeah, it's quite late to me
[1936.57] Jack: Yeah, and then he starts hanging out with nj and like it was some sort of like nazi
[1942.15] Jack: military
[1943.45] Jack: like training
[1945.45] Jack: Like you will be fast jay
[1947.93] Jack: You know like and it's turned what I can only describe as neil from the young ones into roadrunner
[1955.13] Jack: Wow
[1956.09] Jack: Anything like it was just like I was like is jay flying that you know and like
[1962.49] Jae: Wow, but if you you know, I've only had most people i've been flying line of sight mostly
[1968.01] Jae: So I guess this year's been my fpv year and it's been a fun year
[1972.09] Jack: I can't wait for nj to get out there meet thomas cheer with paul
[1976.81] Jack: Do a bit of flying with with those guys and then he's going to come back and jay is going to
[1984.33] Jack: You know, he's going to be shouted at like an abused housewife
[1988.49] Jack: And he's going to come in he's going to kick the door in he's going to be like it's not fast enough
[1994.17] Jack: Start slapping you about because obviously thomas has made him like light speed now and um, you know
[2000.65] Jack: It's like this is not good enough and he's showing things on his phone and you know, like waterboarding jay
[2007.21] NJ: Yeah, as I said before it pretty much was the the kind of typical 80s training montage
[2015.05] NJ: Sat there and went through everything and you know
[2017.85] NJ: There was lots of lifting heavy carts of farming equipment. And yeah, we we got there in the end. We're running up
[2025.61] Jae: You know what the motivation was a long time ago jack you did say oh jay doesn't fly right he flies waypoint
[2031.63] Jae: It's like ah
[2032.83] Jae: Yeah, you say such things right and that was the whole motivation to try and just think yeah one day one day jack
[2038.35] Jae: I'll have to go up against you
[2040.91] Jae: And beat him at acro
[2045.55] Jae: Yeah, the let's drone out games
[2049.07] Paul: So, what do you guys think of the um racing scene at the moment, um
[2053.47] Paul: In the uk and all that or suppose the whole of europe tony you answer that
[2058.27] UNKNOWN: But
[2060.27] Jae: Fast my internet's going wrong. Okay. I think one problem that's going to exist soon
[2065.47] Jae: If it's not already in anywhere is that there's going to be different levels of ability?
[2070.03] Jae: Uh racing against each other and I think that's
[2072.59] Jae: It's going to be harder for people to perhaps get started if you know what I mean
[2076.51] Jack: Yeah, yeah bunny exists in this country. And if you don't know he's very very fast
[2082.51] Jack: Yeah
[2085.15] Jack: And yeah
[2086.91] Jack: Those guys are unbelievable down to a nice guys
[2090.59] Frank: But they can't all make it to every qualifying event. So, you know, I think there will still be plenty of ways in
[2098.27] Jae: But I suppose it doesn't really have the focus for the
[2100.91] Jae: People to even want to like, you know people that want to do it big do it for the interest of what it is
[2105.47] Jae: Rather than actually the fame of being a racing car driver per se except for the people who do it for the fame of being
[2110.91] Jae: on sky tv
[2113.87] Frank: Yeah, true a world champion, but aren't they all being americans and being shipped in any way for that one
[2121.63] Jack: almost certainly
[2124.19] Jack: No, come on guys, let's not sound bitter
[2127.07] Jack: uh
[2128.43] Adam: You know we love americans
[2133.15] Tony: We've got our nets in a week. Yes, we do
[2136.99] Frank: So that's the british pv racing association
[2141.15] Frank: british championships, so there's going to be shiny trophy and
[2146.75] Frank: Blacks and things and you have all sorts of
[2152.03] Frank: Yeah
[2153.07] Jae: Just so, you know, it is actually
[2155.07] Jae: It's the biggest uh radio control show and finals of many things have fixed wings pilot racing
[2161.39] Jae: All sorts of things wow
[2164.35] Jae: They've only just allowed the multiple
[2167.95] Jae: Into the uh into the areas
[2171.15] Paul: I mean, it's actually mind-boggling how much the sport's actually grown now
[2173.79] Paul: I mean like it's just the size of it like two years ago racing really didn't really exist
[2177.95] Paul: You know what I mean other than a few mates going out and saying let's race around this tree and that tree
[2181.95] Paul: You know when all of a sudden?
[2183.79] Paul: Um, you've got
[2185.39] Paul: I know in australia we've had a few national events haven't we?
[2187.63] Thomas: Yeah, we've had three this year. We've been joking
[2190.19] Paul: We want to actually hold our own event. I'm gonna i'm gonna call it the intergalactic
[2194.19] Paul: Drone championship so we can invite aliens and everyone may as well make it bigger again
[2198.51] Thomas: Yeah
[2200.51] Jack: Shouldn't that be held in america because like anyone america is like, you know, not from america and they're legal alien on it
[2208.99] Adam: I hardly think we could be resolved on the whole foreigners hating thing at the moment in this country. Yeah
[2215.79] Jack: Yeah
[2219.63] Jack: The reason why he's like literally listening to this yes, I like the racist one with the dory blue
[2227.15] Jack: It's my right wing
[2229.47] Jack: um
[2230.59] Jack: Oh my sometimes I wonder who let you on here and then I realize me
[2236.75] Jack: Also, it says something about my sense of humor
[2239.63] Jack: You know, I like you scare the living hell out of me every time you open your mouth
[2245.39] Adam: Oh, come on. You're not exactly, uh without fault in that
[2249.47] Jack: I know you encourage me
[2252.11] Jack: There's some cringe-worthy moments
[2255.23] Jack: Someone's got to do it. Anyway, like me me and adam don't care about
[2261.47] NJ: So I have a I have a question to that to the chaps, um, how do you know, um
[2267.55] NJ: Juz and what's your your history with with juz?
[2270.99] Paul: Wow
[2272.35] Paul: Do you want do you want to I'll I'll go through my quick. Um, for those of you that know who juz is
[2277.79] Paul: Juz was there from the beginning. He was fpv'ing. Um
[2280.67] Paul: Going out with backpacks and fp'ing on the beach, uh pulling off epic footage way
[2286.99] Paul: Grandfather exactly and he is the nicest nicest guy ever and on a side note. Um, if you
[2294.27] Paul: He's the sort of guy that if you turn around and say oh that was the most epic footage
[2298.11] Paul: I mean, he's like, oh I got lucky. You know what I mean? Or that was the most amazing flying he goes
[2301.23] Paul: Oh, no, it's a quadcopter. He will never ever take credit for anything whatsoever
[2306.03] Paul: He's just the nicest most humble guy ever now that being said
[2309.87] Paul: Um, the first time we came across juz was basically his videos like everyone else
[2314.59] Paul: And we didn't even know he was australian. Did we? No
[2317.55] Paul: Uh, and then we'll go into this one race meet. Uh, it wasn't race. But was this a multi?
[2322.19] Thomas: It's a first ever melvin multi-runner meet. Yeah, that's right
[2325.15] Paul: So, um, it was basically a group of multi-runner guys who got together and said look, let's have a barbie on a barbecue
[2331.39] Paul: Um, we'll have a just do some fun flying
[2334.43] Adam: It was all into any stereotype. So
[2337.15] Paul: Exactly. Yeah, so so um, anyway, um
[2341.31] Paul: They organized this event. It was really cool. And um,
[2344.35] Paul: Juz was there wasn't he and that was the first time we actually met him. Yeah, and uh,
[2348.43] Paul: Thomas absolutely thinks well
[2349.71] Paul: And we can tell him a bit about your story was your first encounter with him and probably your first flight with him
[2354.11] Thomas: We're invited you out. Ah, so my first flight with him
[2357.63] Thomas: Oh, I can't remember how we organized that's something that kind of happened where it was like, oh, there's a uh park
[2363.71] Thomas: I've been meaning to fly it do you guys want to go down and we'll try it because he's um
[2368.19] Thomas: He's with parks victoria. So he's kind of he's a ranger. He gets access to like heaps of different places
[2373.55] Thomas: So he's got his footage
[2376.03] Jack: Yeah, he's going to come on the show and he's just like i'm not into self-promotion and it's like
[2381.39] Adam: The third the third video down on his site is of kangaroos. So you probably should have guessed he was australian
[2387.87] Paul: Yeah, I know
[2388.99] Paul: I think the first one first one we saw was um
[2391.55] Paul: We saw we saw a couple of um videos and they were just of anything
[2395.55] Paul: Then there was one at the beach, which was at wilson's prometry. Yeah, that was golden. That's famous
[2401.71] Jack: He flew he didn't fly a tricopter as well
[2404.51] Jack: I said yeah
[2405.55] NJ: Well, I can actually tell you going going even further back than that
[2408.91] NJ: Because I I started subscribing to jazz. This was probably
[2412.11] NJ: Six seven years ago when I first started getting into things and this was when I was experimenting with putting
[2418.51] NJ: Cameras on my rc helicopters and just had a great one of a t-rex 500 carrying a gopro and he created this crazy
[2425.87] NJ: Custom under carriage for it and got this amazing footage
[2428.83] NJ: So I remember subscribing to him way back then when he was experimenting with getting aerial footage before he started
[2436.51] NJ: Producing these
[2438.19] NJ: Awesome quad copter videos on sort of 500 size quads and then obviously eventually things started getting smaller
[2443.95] NJ: But um, yeah, he's been doing great videos for a long time. Someone's battery's charged
[2451.95] Paul: He has that's for sure I mean, um, his his footage has been absolutely epic from day one and um,
[2457.07] Paul: so my point of view he's the easy grandfather of uh,
[2460.59] Paul: This multi-roader boom, you know what I mean? And um, the thing that's like I said
[2463.71] Paul: You got a lot of people you got some people coming through that have got really big egos
[2467.23] Paul: Which is kind of sad to see but I mean you're going to get that irrespective. Um, and that's probably what makes
[2472.99] Paul: Someone like drus jazzy more attractive because he's such a humble guy
[2476.99] Paul: And that's probably the reason why he doesn't want to be on the show because you won't want to talk about himself
[2481.39] Jack: Yeah, I think you can just
[2483.47] Jack: I mean tell him that you know, like let's turn out they talk about lawnmowers everything, you know what I mean?
[2489.71] Jack: This is a chat of the flying field
[2491.71] NJ: I was generally shocked to see him put up a video where he actually vlogged because again
[2496.19] NJ: I've never got the impression of him ever doing stuff like that and all of a sudden he's talking to camera
[2500.19] NJ: I was like, whoa, there he is. I was blown away by that
[2503.95] Paul: I made sure I got onto him and said dude, you've got to do more of this stuff
[2506.83] Paul: It's fantastic and always like oh, no, he's like doing it
[2509.31] Paul: He was I think he wasn't gonna upload that one because he um wasn't sure about it at all
[2513.47] Paul: Look, just just don't think about it. Just bloody do it. You know what I mean? Because um
[2518.19] Paul: Here's one person I'd like to see more of we're gonna probably go flying with him a lot more this year
[2521.71] NJ: Yeah, especially now to I think he's someone with a bit of a golden touch as well
[2526.83] NJ: Because I used to chat to him
[2528.35] NJ: Although sort of under a different alias at the time back on the open pilot forums when the cc3e was
[2533.87] NJ: Sort of first around and he was one of the few guys that managed to
[2538.03] NJ: Pilot through some of the the bad parts about the cc3d software
[2542.59] NJ: Because it used to be you know as i've chat with jack about this
[2545.71] NJ: You know, there's a lot of pushing sliders around that didn't do an awful lot. It was very
[2549.95] Jack: What was the thing to make it more twitchy like snap or something a snop? Oh god. I can't remember
[2555.15] Jack: No, that was that was the turnigy 9
[2558.51] Jack: X weren't it snop roll. That's it. Yeah. Yeah
[2562.91] NJ: But he was great
[2564.03] NJ: He he could just he just had the magic touch where he could pilot through even the you know
[2569.79] NJ: The the strangest most erratic flight controllers and get these beautiful
[2575.07] NJ: Outputs and you know, I think there's there's a lot to to be credited there
[2579.87] NJ: Yeah, it'll be definitely a pioneer
[2582.83] NJ: Sure thing. Absolutely
[2584.83] Jae: Guys did you get my kiddo v500 that i'm not built because of that man?
[2589.23] Jae: Oh, I mean he's definitely a big one sydney
[2591.55] Jae: I mean huge to think of it just flying them around the parks these days. It'd be crazy
[2597.63] Jack: Like how did you start out before have you done any helis or I think you guys have done for some fixed wing, haven't you?
[2604.83] Paul: Yeah, look my background is probably 30 plus years ago when I started in the hobby
[2609.23] Paul: As in the radio control aspect that I was always building rubber-powered models
[2612.91] Paul: Couldn't get into radio control till uh, I started working that could afford it
[2617.55] Paul: And the radio gear was really expensive back then
[2619.71] Paul: So, um, it was basically I went out flew my first radio control aircraft crashed it within 10 seconds
[2625.31] Paul: Then joined the club learned to fly. Um, and that was sort of my background
[2629.71] Paul: Uh thomas the irony with thomas is he was interested in radio control. So he's interested in aircraft
[2636.03] Thomas: Yeah, I was interested in radio control, but not for flying myself and he was it was not interested
[2640.99] Paul: He'd made paper planes. He did everything except want to fly radio control aircraft and um
[2647.15] Paul: He was probably mid primary school when I decided to get rid of all my radio control gear because we weren't using it anymore
[2652.99] Paul: And then all of a sudden he got back into it
[2655.15] Paul: Well, he got into it. He was all of a sudden interested in actually flying
[2658.11] Paul: So that's how thomas got into it
[2659.31] Paul: He wanted to let it fly and I think all of his first flights are on youtube all that stuff is also there
[2664.19] Paul: and um
[2665.95] Paul: Then all of a sudden we had a couple people send us
[2669.15] Paul: some frames to review through the uh, what was it cgx 250 and the minion and the minion and that were the mini quads which we
[2677.85] Paul: Reviewed just for the heck of it because we thought oh, yeah people begin to fly this quads
[2681.79] Paul: We should probably do a video on a video on it and I never would have thought the quad coppers would have taken over
[2687.55] Paul: And they haven't had me. It's a whole different world, isn't it? Yeah
[2690.59] Jack: I know I was thinking that the other day. I was walking up my road and thinking
[2694.91] Jack: Man, I bought a hubson
[2696.99] Jack: And I flew it and it just attached itself to my ceiling
[2701.23] Jack: and then uh, I switched it off
[2704.43] Jack: And and now it's my job and it's really weird and I get to talk to you guys and everyone else and it's a real pleasure
[2712.51] Paul: And oh look it's it's and it's also fantastic the other special thing about the hobby is
[2717.55] Paul: Um, you've got the opportunity to meet so many different people. Um, we're really lucky because we get to meet people from all over the world
[2724.11] Paul: um
[2725.31] Paul: And the thing is when you meet up with anyone you guys would know this too
[2728.35] Paul: I mean you might talk to someone on youtube or facebook or something like that and all of a sudden you go for a fly with them
[2734.19] Paul: And it's like you guys are best mates and you've known each other for ages. You know what I mean? Yeah
[2738.51] Paul: So, um, most of the community I'd say 99% of the community is absolutely fantastic
[2742.51] Paul: And that's probably one of the big things when you go to these race meets
[2745.23] Paul: Um, like the nationals or you got people from all over australia or if you go to dubai, um, we had people from all over the world
[2751.07] Paul: And you've got this commonality and you tend to click with all these people. I remember when dubai was over
[2756.75] Paul: Um at one stage tom was turned it turned around and said we're not going to see you know, metal denny
[2760.75] Paul: We're not going to see uh, you know, um, the right of right guys and blah blah blah
[2764.59] Paul: It was just really kind of sad when you leave these meets because you get to know these people and over that course of one or two days
[2770.91] Paul: you sort of become mates and uh
[2773.79] Paul: That's really the way the hobbies and we get that even like I said when people come out for a fly with us
[2777.63] Paul: And we'll have a great day and all of a sudden they're gone. It's like oh, that's a bit sad
[2780.35] Paul: You know what I mean? But yeah, look it it's it's a good community and 99% of it is just absolutely fantastic
[2786.35] Jack: Yeah, I I totally get what you mean like because I don't know whether it's because like only some sort of contagious disease on my life
[2792.43] Jack: But he really does feel like family to me
[2795.31] Jack: You know
[2798.11] Tony: I love you jack
[2800.75] Paul: It was like when you rang me up jack
[2802.11] Paul: I mean that day on skype and we just chatted a little bit on facebook
[2805.79] Paul: Yeah, and you and we were going to have a quick five-minute chat
[2809.79] Paul: And I don't know how long the chat went for and eventually I
[2814.03] Paul: You know, it's like we're supposed to be this really quick, um skype chat and we were just talking like we'd known each other for years
[2819.23] Jack: You know what I mean? So uh, yeah
[2821.95] Paul: It's like that, you know and i'm even talking to you now
[2824.27] Paul: This is the second time i've actually spoken to you as in spoken, you know
[2827.71] Paul: Yeah, and um, even the rest of the guys you just feel like your mates
[2830.51] Paul: I mean you could go and hang out with each other go for a drink or whatever. You know what I mean? Um
[2834.19] Adam: Have a fly. That's true. That's a really really low
[2837.63] Adam: Asshole ratio in the um in the place
[2842.67] Adam: And I mean we we do all want to talk forever and I could I could say that for those of you who listen to the show
[2847.95] Adam: Regularly and aware of our many technical problems
[2850.83] Adam: You wouldn't believe how much time we spend talking about the show when we're not on air
[2854.67] Adam: Like the conversation is actually almost continuous. I know this because recently i've got an apple watch
[2860.43] Adam: And it links into the sky every time one of those messages each other it wobbles my wrist
[2867.47] Adam: Is live 24 seven
[2870.43] Adam: And we still start late every week
[2872.51] Jack: Yeah, that's it. We were up till like one or two in the morning like sorting a few things out
[2877.63] Jack: But yeah, this this show has literally turned adams juniper's arm into a battery operated sex aid
[2887.39] Jack: And that's why he's late
[2893.23] Jack: Into the hour mark, you know what happens with jack
[2896.67] Jack: Yeah, good point
[2898.75] Jack: Yeah, you you've you've heard the the secret episode that I will get on to editing soon. So
[2904.75] Jack: Uh, oh, yeah, the uh, yeah the boris episode
[2911.95] Jack: Oh, that was pretty epic. Yeah, as thomas listened to it is he scarred for life?
[2917.39] Paul: Yeah, look that look. I thought it was really it wasn't bad at all. Look. I don't think it was that bad
[2920.91] Paul: I mean it wasn't um
[2922.59] Paul: Oh, I thought it was fine. It was there was nothing that I heard that was really really like, you know
[2926.03] Paul: Oh my god, you know, I mean do we need to edit that out? I didn't hear anything. That was really really in my that's just my
[2931.15] Paul: That's normal with respect
[2935.55] Paul: Yes true true
[2937.79] Paul: But no and also I mean the the few little odd word that was said here and there it wasn't said
[2942.43] Paul: It was said in a joking way. So I don't think
[2945.47] Paul: Do you know what i'm saying? Like you can say this you could say the same word and you could use it harshly
[2950.91] Paul: with the intent of you know, um
[2953.71] Paul: Sort of putting someone down or whatever or it could be
[2956.27] Paul: Said light hardly and it's just purely a joke and everyone gets it as a joke
[2960.03] Paul: You know the mean so look I think even nowadays people get all the political correctness and all that and we've gotten to the point where
[2968.19] Paul: This is just my opinion some of the stuff some of the stuff that we look at it's been bad
[2971.71] Paul: It's just it's just going over the top
[2972.91] Paul: You know where everyone's trying to be really really careful about what they say with everything
[2976.67] Paul: I mean look we're still careful what we do with what with our channel, you know, because we've got a lot of young listeners
[2981.15] Jack: but um
[2983.07] Paul: I think some people just get too carried away with it and they just you know, try and filter out absolutely everything, you know
[2987.87] Paul: Which is kind of crazy
[2989.71] Jack: That's why we you know, we have we have adam for that so that
[2996.43] Jack: You know, that's that's his role and and the safety why i've got to prepare the little boys and girls for the real world
[3002.51] Jack: Yeah
[3004.11] Jack: Yeah, I just set everything on fire
[3006.11] Jack: Um, I saw the legit guys making custom wings for the bms guys. Is that true?
[3012.51] Paul: Yes, look that that was really really cool. Look, um, they got in touch with me and said look, can you do um,
[3017.55] Paul: the the problem we've got is
[3019.71] Paul: When we started the channel originally it was all about um
[3022.99] Paul: Working on how to do things ourselves and we were trying to find that information on youtube
[3026.35] Paul: And there wasn't that much in the way of information about some of the stuff we're trying to do like what camera did we use?
[3031.15] Paul: What works and what doesn't so as a result we started reviewing the stuff we were buying
[3035.55] Paul: And then eventually it sort of got to a point where people wanted to send stuff out and we'll review it
[3040.27] Paul: Which was great you get something for free and you can share the information, you know
[3043.39] Paul: Um, so that's kind of a win-win for us and it's a win-win for the community. Um in general
[3048.75] Paul: um, but then all of a sudden it got to a point where you've got every man his dog won't i've got people trying to
[3053.55] Paul: Send me vacuum cleaners to freaking review and what i'm not gonna you know vacuum cleaners or a you know
[3058.67] Paul: A blender on a lamp and i'm thinking like I can't really do a blender review on my channel because no one will watch it
[3064.11] Paul: You know, so uh, it's gotten to that point where things have gotten out of hand. So anyway, I will I will admit
[3069.71] Jack: Did you yep, it was you that did the old telemetry?
[3074.51] Jack: Um tutorial, is that right? You did the telemetry tutorial for the nays 32. Is that right?
[3080.91] Paul: Oh, yes, I did. Yes. Yes. Yeah. Yep
[3083.31] Jack: And that's how I learned how to do the analog telemetry via the nays 32. I just want to thank you for that
[3091.23] Paul: This is the funny thing. I had just
[3093.47] Paul: Uh, contact me one. This is we we're already met him. You know what I mean? He goes, um, yeah
[3097.63] Paul: He contacted me and said look, thanks very much for the tutorial i'm using these
[3100.35] Paul: I've actually a favorite of these videos. They're fantastic. You know what I mean?
[3102.99] Paul: And i'm like, how the hell could I possibly be teaching just anything? You know what I mean?
[3108.27] Paul: So that that that was that was kind of mind-boggling and that but anyway back to the wings
[3112.03] Paul: Uh, so anyway, they got in touch with me team legit and said look we'd like you to do a review of your wings
[3116.51] Paul: So I just said look i'd love to but I know how long it takes it takes to build a wing because we did one
[3122.11] Paul: For the juggernauts
[3124.11] Paul: Which is our sweet wings and it was it's a lot of work to put together a wing
[3128.43] Paul: And with what we're doing at the moment thomas is racing and all that
[3131.31] Paul: I haven't really got the time to do that much building and like at the moment
[3134.35] Paul: We've got to build another five helixes for him
[3136.67] Paul: Uh for hawaii
[3138.75] Paul: So, um, we're flat out with all that. So anyway catalog story short. I said look
[3141.39] Paul: I haven't got time to build it maybe try in a couple of months
[3144.19] Paul: So a couple of months went by they got in touch with me again said
[3146.99] Paul: Are you ready for us to send you the wings? I said look i'm really not quite ready yet
[3150.35] Paul: You know what? I mean, maybe give me another couple of months
[3152.99] Paul: So a little bit of time went by and then they got in touch with me again
[3155.39] Paul: Look, um, if we sent you the wings and they were completely built
[3159.15] Paul: And all you had to do was fly them and just share it with the community. Would you be willing to do that?
[3164.99] Paul: And I thought oh, okay, if you're going to send me built wings, yeah
[3168.11] Paul: Why not, you know what I mean? And and I was quite surprised that we're willing to do that
[3172.51] Paul: and then the icing on the cake was um
[3175.55] Paul: We've got heather and shane
[3178.35] Paul: um
[3179.71] Paul: Building for us and they've done an absolutely phenomenal job building these things
[3185.15] Paul: And when I say phenomenal i'm just talking about just the build quality just the amount of love and um
[3190.27] Paul: Thought that went into the build. I don't know whether you guys have seen the wings or not
[3193.47] Paul: Uh that they're done for us. They're absolutely beautiful. And it's just
[3197.87] Paul: So thoughtful what they did i'm just so touched and blown away by with it by it's just mind-boggling
[3204.11] Jack: Yeah, I did every like
[3207.31] Jack: Um, oh god, this is mr. Flash gangster and this is flash gangster
[3215.89] Jack: Team legit always have things that look really good
[3218.85] Jack: They really do they've got such a good little style of them
[3221.65] Jack: I even like their little logo as well because like they were making um power distribution boards the zmr weren't they?
[3228.53] Jack: And they were quite sore. That's right. Yeah hard to get hold of
[3233.09] Paul: Yeah, they've done they've done a few good things at the moment and they're growing at the moment quite quickly
[3236.53] Paul: Which is fantastic. It's good to see wings are really growing and that's
[3239.57] Paul: Um getting back on. Um the radar, uh, we've got luke banister now flying wings again, so that's really really good
[3246.45] Paul: Um, because that's one area the hobby. I mean the biggest issue we have i'd love to know I love flying aircraft
[3251.65] Paul: Really really love flying aircraft. I've got two projects that I haven't finished off. I bought an asw 28
[3258.21] Paul: glider
[3259.41] Paul: And um, I was supposed to be putting in head tracking in it and it was going to be like a radio control
[3266.05] Paul: Gliding simulator that's not really a simulator because it's real, but it's already a control, but I wanted the full gliding
[3271.89] Paul: Experience with the vario the whole works and i've bought everything for it, but I haven't put together yet have I no
[3278.77] Paul: So um, but I want to do more fixed wing stuff too. I really want to get back into it
[3282.85] Paul: I think it's a good career move
[3284.93] Adam: Probably helped me get jobs with the um delivery people and that
[3288.93] Paul: Well, do you reckon the delivery stuff is ever going to happen?
[3291.73] Adam: Well, there are real people actually working on it in this country. I think given the new legislation they're working on the
[3299.09] Adam: Not just the delivery, but there's the you know, hovering
[3303.25] Adam: Mobile phone masks that kind of thing for events and I think you know wings are obviously just so much more efficient
[3310.77] Paul: oh, there's no two ways I remember at one stage we were flying the um
[3315.57] Paul: The fpv wings and we're also flying the quads when we're going through that transition period thomas was flying his uh minion 220 and I was
[3322.13] Paul: flying my zeta fx 61 I think it is
[3326.05] Paul: And um, I was out probably two k's away and thomas crashed his quad and he won a hand looking for it
[3331.73] Paul: So I just switched it over to rth and this thing was circling
[3335.33] Paul: Overhead probably i'd say 30 minutes or so
[3339.01] Paul: And uh, we found his quad
[3341.25] Paul: Um got him going again, put my goggles back on again
[3343.97] Paul: Went out for another few k's worth of flying and then came back and landed and you really can't do that with uh
[3348.53] Paul: With a um multirotor. So yeah, look they're a fantastic platform
[3354.62] Jack: Yeah, what were you saying about the the um
[3357.32] Jack: legislation frank
[3359.1] Frank: I was saying about how the uh
[3361.34] Frank: the way that the prototype legislation that's been released uh about a week ago now for by
[3367.9] Frank: European aviation safety authority that I am still drafting a letter about but um,
[3373.18] Frank: Yeah, that all looks fairly clearly
[3377.1] Frank: in the direction of
[3378.78] Frank: Having drones or at least unmanned aircraft for delivery and all sorts of things
[3384.54] Frank: It's opening that sort of thing up. So I definitely think they're looking that way and probably
[3390.94] Frank: in talks with amazon and
[3393.5] Frank: Also looking at other bits of legislation. I'm pretty sure they're talking to dji as well
[3397.9] Frank: some of the requirements for hardware
[3400.86] Jae: Flight separation. So yes, they I mean there's a commercial aspect of these things flying in the air whether it's a fixed wing or whether it's a
[3407.16] Jae: multirotor
[3408.46] Jae: But one thing they have to try and sort is what point complaints fly out as opposed to you know, manned aviation
[3414.54] Jae: um and keeping stuff in this safe separation, so
[3418.62] Frank: legislation has to catch up with the technology and well, I think that's already pretty clear and sorted out in terms of
[3425.88] Frank: commercial aircraft versus us
[3428.46] Frank: they think the the key bit now is
[3431.26] Frank: uh the
[3432.62] Frank: The low flying lighter particularly helicopters
[3436.3] Frank: like the separation between low flying helicopter operations and us is not that much at the moment and that seems to be what
[3444.22] Frank: The legislation is concerned about
[3447.58] Jae: But the legislation doesn't prevent also people and security methods trying to bring these down from the sky just wait because it's there
[3454.94] Paul: So even not intentionally what about um, you've got they say say you've got amazon doing a delivery of a parcel
[3460.94] Paul: I don't know if they're gonna ever go down that path. You know what I mean?
[3463.02] Paul: but if they they are
[3464.46] Paul: And little johnny's out there in his street. His mum and dad bought him a new kite and he's got it up
[3469.18] Paul: He's flying it. It's probably about three or four hundred feet up
[3472.38] Paul: Um, is this thing?
[3475.5] Paul: Is this thing gonna even know this kite's up in the air? Yeah. Oh, no
[3479.58] Adam: You know with much better sensing technology is gonna be
[3483.5] Adam: Absolutely crucial. I think obviously a kite
[3487.1] Adam: Wow 400 meters in the adage
[3489.26] Paul: and
[3493.98] Paul: So it's still pretty high we used to we used to do competition kiting and uh, we can get our kites up pretty high
[3498.62] Paul: So, um, we used to fly in storms and everything
[3500.62] Paul: So my point being that's pretty extreme
[3501.9] Paul: But still if you're going to be coming to do a delivery you're going to be coming down quite low
[3505.74] Paul: definitely within the altitude range of a quite kite
[3509.66] Paul: And it may see the kite but will it see the actual line that's actually holding it? It's a very good valid point
[3516.22] Adam: That's true. I think you might be the one that no one's thought of
[3520.22] Frank: But this is the point where I think actually they have thought of it
[3525.66] Paul: Yeah
[3526.86] Frank: They have I think they have thought of it because in the class zero of
[3531.34] Frank: Of the new legislation it specifically says unpowered untethered unmanned aircraft will
[3537.34] Frank: Be ruled down
[3540.59] Jae: How do you mean all you need to do all you need to do is ban the kites? I mean, yeah, it's gonna well
[3545.15] Jae: That's what the it looks to me
[3547.15] Adam: Why not simply ban childhood?
[3549.15] Frank: It's bad to me
[3550.59] Frank: Because there's this class of aircraft in the new in the new legislation
[3554.11] Frank: Which is you're allowed this for two years after new legislation comes in and then it's going to get banned
[3560.11] Frank: And that includes unpowered untethered aircraft after that you would need
[3565.71] Frank: You know to get all the
[3567.95] Frank: same
[3569.47] Frank: You know licensing and everything else and a registration on the aircraft and have it all signed off with CE markings and everything
[3577.07] Frank: After that period of time to fly it which kind of looks to me like they're requiring registration of kite flyers
[3584.59] Frank: but
[3585.63] Frank: I am also
[3586.59] Jae: I'm another read
[3588.19] Jae: It comes down to whether the police connect upon something and it's going to go to the jurisdiction of the police essentially to
[3593.71] Jae: police these things in the in the
[3596.83] Jae: Civilian sense and the commercial sense is probably CAA and stuff like that
[3602.67] Jack: Adam do you want to do you want to say anything about this? Well
[3608.35] Adam: I know maybe it's a tiresome and depressing. No, I really don't have anything to say about that subject
[3617.47] Adam: Although it's interesting me I've not noticed that you know, it's uh, no, no i'm not gonna get drawn in
[3624.19] Jack: Dammit
[3627.39] Jack: I was going to create a war. I read something funny. Um, chris g said I found my hubson in the street
[3632.67] Jack: No one claimed it. So I bought a tx and the charger
[3635.71] Jack: Jeep online and it gave me
[3637.95] Jack: Uh gave it a happy home. Sorry
[3640.51] Jack: That's just like I found this kitten. I guess it's mine now. I better get some kibble
[3646.27] Adam: I'm gonna make sure my hubson's not got anyone there
[3649.39] Adam: Yeah, oh we we've hit an hour mark. Is that a problem for anyone?
[3653.71] Frank: I think I should uh hit stop on the record on the podcast, but i'm sure
[3659.55] Frank: You guys probably happy to carry on on the hangouts. I don't know. I I have to
[3665.39] Adam: I have to go but it would be awesome to stay here forever, but I um, I can't
[3669.63] Frank: Sadly so those of us that do have to go we will say
[3674.43] Frank: Good nights to you on

[3680.45] Frank: But i'm sure jack will happily share out a link to listen to the after show
[3688.05] Jack: Yeah, uh, no, I I I want to say if you want to keep the show independent and going
[3693.49] Jack: Frank needs more money for editing because
[3696.45] Jack: I had to edit
[3698.29] Jack: Last week's show and I left a rude word in there and i'm very sorry. I'm not a professional editor. So
[3705.65] Jack: Um, if you don't want to be offended, please give frank money
[3710.37] Jack: Let's go now on the patreon
[3713.09] Jack: And the um, the other news is uh, why it's why if you're still listening
