[58.46] ibcrazy: this is the best you're gonna get i might be an antenna twister but when it comes to pc's
[63.5] Jack: yeah that's not my point i have a bone to pick with you as soon as you're on the show i am on you
[71.5] Jack: um right i'll be feeling right back to you so that this is your why do you make the left hand
[81.74] Jack: what happened to the air screw god damn it because now we've got the big plastic thing
[86.38] Jack: and i immediately buy your antennas stick it in a vice crack the lid off can't we just get the
[91.34] Jack: standard ones i've broken a lobe on my my goggles right and i preferred them without the cover
[97.9] ibcrazy: and i'm really sad about it well the believe it or not the cover it's the same antenna underneath
[103.42] ibcrazy: and you don't have to put it into a vice all you have to do is pull the there's a bead in the bottom
[107.58] ibcrazy: that's a ferrite choke all you do is you pull the the bead down the cover will literally pop apart
[112.06] ibcrazy: once that bead is a lock that locks the cover yeah just pull it off yeah but i've noticed when
[120.22] Jack: you do crash that's like a little bit of a weird because like the original one don't make me get
[124.94] Jack: up because i will get up and get mine the other there's like there i got lost there that's a
[132.86] Jack: dare respect though but yeah hang on i'm gonna don't i might have to so basically when you know
[141.66] Jack: the antenna lobes and then you've got that little gap where the case goes and then you've got the
[146.38] Jack: choke whereas the old one the choke was right at the top so when you crashed you didn't have this
[151.1] Jack: little weak exposed little bit right that's why oh i see what you're saying i see what you're saying
[157.98] ibcrazy: the way we did the race spec it's yeah but that's protected there i see what you're saying i see
[166.06] Jack: exactly what you're saying yeah i don't i i don't like the race back they're a bit they're thinner
[171.82] ibcrazy: thinner gauge wire aren't they uh yeah coaxial there's also the blue beam classics we have out
[178.7] Jack: that have the have a much thicker cable on them yeah why don't you do because i'm left-handed i'm
[185.02] Jack: all about the left the left hand polarization right you know you just us lefties you've left out
[191.34] ibcrazy: you left the right-handed that's all it is yeah the left hand um the reason why i don't do
[198.22] ibcrazy: everything in left hand as right hand is people get confused very very easily so i have the left-handed
[204.7] ibcrazy: air blade and the right hand and then the right-handed air screw um that way all air blades are
[211.18] ibcrazy: left-handed all air screws are right-handed and almost nobody wanted them exposed almost
[218.46] ibcrazy: nobody wanted to see an exposed antenna they always wanted the cover on them so i made the
[222.62] ibcrazy: cover removable um however whenever you remove the cover you've got to push that bead all the way
[230.22] ibcrazy: back up to the top and either glue it or heat shrink it in place yeah to protect it otherwise
[235.98] ibcrazy: you can break the cable up there because they the blue beam ultras and the air blades they were never
[240.62] ibcrazy: meant for multi rotors they were designed before multi rotors really got popular um they were
[247.34] ibcrazy: designed for airplanes that don't flip over and crash on top of their antennas so for the multi
[252.86] ibcrazy: rotors we got the race spec and the dura spec um so you get a nice low profile of the race spec
[260.22] ibcrazy: if you you know if the antenna is protected or um you know or you don't tend to crash really hard
[266.78] ibcrazy: or the dura spec is your practice antenna that you can you might have seen the video where i went and
[271.58] ibcrazy: bashed the ever living spot out of it with a baseball bat and ran it over with a car
[277.26] ibcrazy: that lit it on fire i did like everything to that thing so um and then the blue beam ultra
[284.54] ibcrazy: basically and the air blades were left as my um they were really meant for fixed wing they work
[292.38] ibcrazy: they obviously work great for multi rotors i use them on my multi rotors i got a y6 a couple of
[297.98] ibcrazy: quads a couple of tricopters i use them uh because i protect them a little bit from the cable getting
[303.98] ibcrazy: sheared off uh one of the one of the biggest problems that we had um is when people started
[309.34] ibcrazy: putting the antennas right on top of the frame frame designer said oh convenient place to put
[314.38] ibcrazy: the antenna right to the top of the frame the very thing that gets when the frame flips over
[319.42] ibcrazy: what does it land on right on that point making the antenna the break point um now when the
[324.86] ibcrazy: batteries go up there the antenna is fine because the battery takes the impact but when the battery
[329.58] ibcrazy: goes underneath well now the antenna takes the impact and it's actually better to put the
[333.58] ibcrazy: antenna underneath your aircraft if you're flying a multi rotor if your battery is under there
[337.9] ibcrazy: because it'll protect it so um that was kind of the thing as we went all of my antennas specialize
[345.66] ibcrazy: in something air blades blue beam ultras they specialize in ultimate top-notch performance
[352.7] ibcrazy: the dura spec is durability the race spec is a compressed version of the blue beam ultras and the
[357.98] ibcrazy: air blades so yeah you can take the cover off but the problem is they're not as durable um
[365.58] ibcrazy: because the durability was supposed to be in the cover they're not as durable once you cover off
[369.02] ibcrazy: but the uh but the uh race spec is the same antenna believe it or not the only difference
[375.1] ibcrazy: is we brought it up the cable inside of a piece of heat shrink to act as a choke rather than use
[380.54] ibcrazy: the uh ferrite bead so you can still you take a you take a race spec you cut the heat shrink
[388.38] ibcrazy: tubing and stretch it out and there you got a blue beam ultra again you know um there you go
[394.94] Jack: yeah because i well i just missed the yeah i just missed the old you know the old ones because
[400.38] Jack: they were quite durable with the the choke right right at the top you know and it's kind of it's
[405.66] Jack: kind of nice not to have to take that off because you know some people might want them
[410.38] Jack: the receiver end and it's that has been my my weapon of choice i bought bought them from
[415.58] Jack: idrone here in the uk and they came in a little as a as a pair and the only i mine came unscrewed
[424.38] Jack: before it broke that's how i lost my video oh okay did you so you've got an older revision you've
[432.7] ibcrazy: got a really old rev then um yeah do you see that you know how we have the finger wrenches now right
[439.26] Jack: have you seen yeah yeah the um yeah the plastic ones yeah and then yeah they cut out yeah i'm
[446.7] Jack: i've i've been doing this a while man i remember when you first released them and he got them and
[452.06] Jack: i i bought them heard everything about them and um you know everyone's using the triumph now
[458.62] ibcrazy: which is you as well yep yeah i'm still using the i mean i don't use the triumph because i
[466.06] ibcrazy: you know it's a good antenna but it's a jack of all trades master of none i i prefer something
[471.82] ibcrazy: that specializes in what i'm about to do and usually it's i put my aircraft in places it
[478.14] ibcrazy: just doesn't belong um and that's when you put an aircraft in places it doesn't belong
[485.34] ibcrazy: you want performance so i'm going to grab the air blade or i'm going to grab a race spec
[490.94] ibcrazy: now i fly left-handed too i'm a lefty pilot um so i'm going to grab an air blade race back or i'm
[496.22] ibcrazy: going to grab a full-sized air blade because i'm going to put my aircraft you know behind a building
[501.02] ibcrazy: through trees who knows where i'm going to put the stupid thing so um in that case i need i need
[509.02] ibcrazy: a little bit more performance than the triumph delivers but if i'm going to go out and attempt to
[515.18] ibcrazy: run a multi-rotor race and you know let's say i didn't protect my antenna the way i do i would
[522.22] ibcrazy: i'd run a dura spec because it's more durable than the triumph you know the triumph is a jack
[527.42] ibcrazy: of all trades master of none it does everything well but it specializes in nothing i mean i equate
[533.18] ibcrazy: that to um i equate that to the the average family car you know the average family car you can do
[539.66] ibcrazy: almost anything with it but it doesn't do anything particularly well it's you know if you want fuel
[545.66] ibcrazy: efficiency you go with a motorcycle or if you want you know if you want to haul stuff you go
[550.38] ibcrazy: the pickup truck can you haul stuff in a family car sure just not so much so it's kind of the
[556.7] ibcrazy: the in-between that kind of fits everything um and that was the that was the point we didn't
[563.1] ibcrazy: when rafael and i started working on it we wanted it to encompass all pilots as you this
[570.78] ibcrazy: doesn't specialize in anything it just works well and it does well for everything it just doesn't
[577.82] ibcrazy: perform its performance isn't quite as good as the bluby moltres but it's more durable um it's
[584.46] ibcrazy: not as durable as the dura spec but it performs a little better so it kind of fit the middle ground
[591.02] ibcrazy: where mine all specialized in something and that was the idea um and honestly i'm really happy with
[596.3] Jack: it i'm very happy with that product yeah because um you know i remember your first you know your
[602.94] Jack: first video of like showing us how to make the the cloverleaf antenna and saying like david does
[609.5] Jack: this method david wendersdale everyone god bless him oh yeah such a such a good guy um yeah and
[620.7] Jack: like you know you're like one of the people who have really like not only given a lot to the hobby
[626.46] Jack: but really done something that changed its direction you know such a game changer like
[634.78] Tony: not just in antennas in in lots more and you know the thing is that hasn't sunk in yet
[640.78] ibcrazy: the impact that that has i i always feel that i'm just an engineer you know and another pilot
[651.5] ibcrazy: it's the the impact that it had on fpv it really hasn't fully sunk in yet i mean as long as i've
[661.02] ibcrazy: been doing this um and i think that's a good thing um more than a bad thing it it it it it
[670.3] ibcrazy: helps me not gonna get a big head it helps remind me that i'm you know i'm still prone to error i
[677.34] ibcrazy: still screw things up but on the other hand um you know it's very hard i mean fpv is it's a worldwide
[686.7] ibcrazy: community and of course i'm interfaced with people that i see you know every day you know that i fly
[692.94] ibcrazy: with every day um you know and every time i go to a different place i start going wow i i can't
[699.98] ibcrazy: believe my little innovation made it all the way out here so it really hasn't sunk in strangely
[705.82] Jack: enough yeah like like middle england you know the uk yeah that's it us us limis you know like
[714.06] Jack: the motherland you know we all run our and run your antennas i mean that must be really strange
[721.26] ibcrazy: you're limited to 25 milliwatts you don't have a choice
[726.22] Jack: yeah about that uh yeah definitely limited um yeah so anyway
[732.38] ibcrazy: um 25 yeah well you're literally living into 25 milliwatts not that anybody really checks that
[740.14] Jack: no but we're savages here you know if it weren't for you teaching us how to walk up right and you
[745.5] Jack: know be like this antenna good this antenna bad yeah well what i'm still bashing rocks together
[754.94] Tony: you know being like there's a merit to that yeah pretty too good impression that one the amazing
[764.46] ibcrazy: the amazing thing that i the fun the thing that i find interesting um i paired up with hugo true rc
[770.86] ibcrazy: canada i mean it wasn't just me believe it or not hugo was the guy in the background working beside
[776.22] ibcrazy: me i just happened to be the first to publish um you know to really have something and publish it
[782.06] ibcrazy: before hugo did um so i get a little bit more recognition actually a lot more recognition but
[786.78] ibcrazy: the truth is is hugo true rc canada that guy is amazing as well and i couldn't have done it
[791.58] ibcrazy: without him he's kind of the silent partner if you if you will so um it wasn't all just me
[799.34] ibcrazy: but the truth is we have some trade secrets between us and we never shared them so we never
[807.66] ibcrazy: really though we taught you how to do what we do we didn't tell you why and so that so what happened
[816.54] ibcrazy: is when all the knockoffs started showing up they screwed it up every single one of them screwed it
[823.66] ibcrazy: up because we published how we make our own we didn't publish how to mass produce what we do
[832.22] ibcrazy: so when people attempted to mass produce them they made a lot of mistakes because we wrote our
[838.22] ibcrazy: tutorials for the do-it-yourselfer we didn't write them so that people could copy what we do and then
[845.5] ibcrazy: compete with us and strangely enough it worked out really well because there are little idiosyncrasies
[853.42] ibcrazy: in what we do that make them work that is the difference between you know the professional
[859.9] ibcrazy: level performance and yeah it works and it's those little things that we never really taught
[866.06] ibcrazy: anybody however the tutorials were written because you know some people would rather build their own
[871.82] ibcrazy: um you know and you can build your own and get some pretty good performance out of it you know
[876.46] ibcrazy: i mean it it will still perform extremely well but we're just not going to give our any way our
[881.42] ibcrazy: trade secrets so there's always going to be that rift between the knockoffs and our professional
[887.42] ibcrazy: lines um and strangely enough that wasn't intentional um but you know when we when we
[894.78] ibcrazy: started realizing that we weren't publishing everything that we knew and just doing certain
[900.46] ibcrazy: things because we knew they worked um it protected us pretty well and so we just you know we we i
[907.26] ibcrazy: mean a lot of people told me to keep my to take tear my tear down my tutorials quit teaching people
[911.5] ibcrazy: how to clone it's like they're gonna clone one way or the other so um what are you holding up jack
[919.66] ibcrazy: uh what's what's with a crashed air blade or what's no no this this is this is my this is my antenna
[927.02] Jack: side this is my um goggles side see the original no no no uh no covers being on that and then just
[936.38] Jack: just one of the lobes this sad little lobe here yeah and that's the only does that does that matter
[947.12] ibcrazy: it does but it doesn't and the problem that you have right there is the guy who makes that is
[953.28] ibcrazy: sam scott he's my actually my quality manager and his thing is he's an artist so he wants to make
[959.2] ibcrazy: it look as pristine as possible and i kept tell and i told him after people started breaking lobes
[967.52] ibcrazy: because they were running and exposed sam put more plastic on that thing
[971.92] ibcrazy: you know um because i want the lobe to not it looks like yours might have broken at the solder
[979.52] ibcrazy: joint and i want it to break i want it to break when the metal is totally fatigued yeah so
[988.08] Tony: for about two years yeah yeah that's that's an instrument right and that was the thing is is
[996.4] ibcrazy: we were trying to compete with people that are i mean there was there was somebody put out an
[1000.0] ibcrazy: antenna that they tried to like everybody thought it was a triumph underneath they're like oh look at
[1005.12] ibcrazy: it it's pretty and i'm going who cares what it's if it's pretty it matters how it performs
[1013.12] ibcrazy: and because so many people were worried about oh what it looks like um sam caught on to that and
[1018.96] ibcrazy: he started uh using less plastic at the theme because it was already covered anyway and anybody
[1023.84] ibcrazy: who most people who would uncover it would use it on their goggles or an airplane
[1028.0] ibcrazy: and if you've got a big gob of plastic on there protecting it just doesn't look as pretty
[1032.8] ibcrazy: and because people care more what it looks like these days don't ask me why then when it performs
[1039.36] ibcrazy: like um you know he started cutting that back unfortunately look i'd be crazy from the the bow
[1046.0] Jack: house kind of thing form over function yep it's good yeah that was the thing is nobody was taking
[1052.64] ibcrazy: the covers off but when people started taking the covers off i told sam you know we've got to put
[1056.72] ibcrazy: more plastic up there i you know i don't care what it looks like people are not going to open
[1060.88] ibcrazy: these and the people who do open these want the durability so let's just do it yeah they're
[1066.64] Jack: beautiful they're really they're really nice i like it you've got it's color coded it's almost
[1071.68] Jack: tony proof definitely be it proof oh my um sorry respect for about two months that lasted that was
[1079.52] Jack: pretty good yeah that's that's that's impressive because like most things two minutes with tony
[1084.56] ibcrazy: like tony's got two modes well hey if it lasted two months that means that tony put it through
[1092.16] ibcrazy: more abuse than running it over five times with a car playing home run derby with it and dipping in
[1098.0] ibcrazy: an acetone and lighting it on fire pretty much not to mention how many hammer swings i threw at it
[1104.24] Jack: yeah tony was born with this tattoo on his ass it's uh uh uh what is it wmd weapon of mass destruction
[1114.72] Jack: thanks well this is my roundabout long way 20 minutes away of asking you can you please ask
[1120.88] Jack: your technician to make me a set of the original pretty no cover i'll pay for them and you can
[1128.24] ibcrazy: oh yeah we can do it no problem in fact just name your problem well that the truth is um
[1134.72] ibcrazy: we went back to that the issue is the great thing about having a small shop and only a handful of
[1140.32] ibcrazy: guys we can change we'll change the product based on what people are asking for we'll do it now
[1146.64] ibcrazy: so the the newest air blades that are coming out are right back to the old style that were more
[1153.04] ibcrazy: protected um the other so that change is already been made the question is when does that trickle
[1161.36] ibcrazy: through the vendors when do the vendors get rid of the get through the ones that were meant to be
[1165.44] ibcrazy: more pretty um underneath that cover and worn on goggles and flown on airplanes and get back into
[1172.24] ibcrazy: and then get trickle through that stock and get into the stock that's more where they went back
[1176.64] Jack: to the durability side um yeah because i was trying to steal it's hard to stay ahead
[1184.16] ibcrazy: yeah it's very hard to stay ahead of what people want because it changes so often um believe it
[1190.64] ibcrazy: or not the blooming mulches are coming out um we're about ready to phase out the uh version
[1196.0] ibcrazy: ones the version well actually what you would you would think is the version one to me it's
[1201.04] ibcrazy: actually the version eight so we've made eight revisions to them since they first came out
[1205.76] ibcrazy: but the current revision is going to be gone um in a couple of months the only difference is
[1212.8] ibcrazy: new covers that are very very small and lighter weight people wanted smaller lighter weight so
[1217.92] Jack: we gave that to them um yeah no no offense but those those old covers i used to call them tumors
[1224.24] Jack: i hated them i hated they were so big they were so cumbersome oh yeah kind of looked like some
[1230.8] ibcrazy: sort of sex aid well i guess that back in the days that uh that when they were designed was
[1236.8] ibcrazy: for fixed wing pilots and that's what they wanted they wanted something a little bit bigger um yeah
[1241.84] ibcrazy: but and don't ask me why because i want something as small as possible um but the new covers actually
[1248.4] ibcrazy: touch the lobes on all sides so it's really really small very compact um and uh if i can
[1256.32] Jack: i think i have one oh my god have you still got the automatic lobe bending machine
[1263.68] Jack: oh god i remember that i've got eight of them that was incredible man i just like can you can
[1270.64] Jack: you send me like a little secret video of that because that's like porn to me i was just like
[1275.2] ibcrazy: this this guy's a genius well here's here's the newest um this is a new man mushroom new cover on
[1282.08] ibcrazy: it um how heavy is it uh it's let's see if i do the math so that's that's what the cover used to be
[1295.44] ibcrazy: right there yeah that's the original and this is the new one so you can see um let me hold it up
[1300.64] Jack: there oh it's like me and tony except i'm the big one that no one wants these little these smaller
[1308.0] ibcrazy: covers um you know and it costs a fortune gets that injection molded so but they're they're gonna
[1314.24] ibcrazy: the new covers are due here the beginning of next week so we're gonna start just making them with
[1318.64] ibcrazy: the smaller lighter covers on them um and the dura speck is going to get the same what's that yeah
[1326.24] Jack: you might have to turn our videos off because uh yeah lagging out we're lagging let's turn
[1332.56] Jack: our cameras go you want me to turn mine off yeah you can do if you want see how you do there we go
[1339.44] ibcrazy: all right okay so so yeah we've been people started asking for the smaller covers we we
[1345.2] ibcrazy: changed the plastic and we made them smaller and it took me oh i don't know how many samples before
[1350.4] ibcrazy: i actually got the plastic right because plastic is technically rf transparent but it detunes the
[1356.32] ibcrazy: antenna inside um and i you know performance first so i had it i went through like four or
[1364.32] ibcrazy: five different plastics to find a uh a plastic that the cover could physically be made smaller
[1371.36] ibcrazy: where i could touch the antenna and the antenna still perform wow and inadvertently i made them
[1377.12] ibcrazy: more durable too yeah it's and it's the the cover is three and a half grams lighter than
[1388.24] ibcrazy: the original cover so it is actually lighter as well so yeah it's always changing everything's
[1396.16] Tony: always changing this is the guy who got 16 pilots in the air in one race 18 witchcraft
[1407.84] ibcrazy: the first try was 16 the second run was 18 because connect said hey we can go to the 5.3
[1414.56] ibcrazy: gigahertz band and put two of them up and so we put two connects quads on hd up with 16 analog
[1420.08] Tony: pilots wow yep we can't even get three of us flying when we go to the field if you would
[1427.76] ibcrazy: if you watch that video i explained that it's the problem i explained the mistakes that people make
[1434.48] ibcrazy: because they don't let's face it rf to most people's black magic you can't see it you can't
[1439.84] ibcrazy: touch it you can only see its effects and the specs of our equipment is seldom if ever published
[1448.56] ibcrazy: i mean the the you get a 200 milliwatt transmitter and you know that's the only spec you have on it
[1456.72] ibcrazy: you know it's 200 milliwatts here's your voltage range here you go and then you power it up and
[1461.68] ibcrazy: some channels are 50 milliwatts others are 500 milliwatts you never even know what you have
[1466.96] ibcrazy: same with receivers the receivers what do you have how many channels the receiver okay great
[1471.44] ibcrazy: how about its sensitivity what about its band rejection and that kind of stuff is largely
[1476.96] ibcrazy: missing because people don't know how to interpret it they don't know what receiver sensitivity
[1482.16] ibcrazy: means or what it does you know or how that helps things or hurts things so when you go out to fly
[1488.88] ibcrazy: you're going to go out and you're going to go with what's convenient if because your receiver
[1494.24] ibcrazy: never told you you need to keep your competing signals so far away so you're going to go right
[1500.08] ibcrazy: up the edge of your field and so everybody that passes by where you're all standing is going to
[1504.16] ibcrazy: wash out everybody else's video if they're farther away um and and that's that's not to the fault of
[1512.8] ibcrazy: the pilots that's receiver manufacturers not specifying their receivers to how well their
[1519.76] ibcrazy: filtration works so they can't filter out adjacent channels very well um and and that's that's my
[1527.84] ibcrazy: point of contention that's why all of my antennas all of the specs are published as well as a
[1532.88] ibcrazy: radiation plot so somebody who wants to who who can use those specs can read and interpret it
[1539.68] ibcrazy: and go okay this is how I get the most out of this product it's not done with receivers and I
[1545.04] ibcrazy: don't really like that but so what I did is I took all the receivers figured out what those
[1551.52] ibcrazy: specs were and then put the video together with how to do that so you don't need to know the specs
[1557.2] ibcrazy: you just know if you want to put 16 pods in the air you need to be one third the distance away
[1561.84] ibcrazy: from the track the track is long so the track's 100 meters long you need to be 33 meters away
[1567.28] ibcrazy: from it and that'll keep other pilots from washing out your video you know yeah because you're
[1573.12] Jack: yeah you're very far away and they're closer and then their their their volume is way louder
[1579.76] Jack: um and washing you out is that right exactly that's exactly what's happening there's also
[1585.36] ibcrazy: some one thing but that's that's the big one the other thing is like I said I mixed polarizations
[1590.48] ibcrazy: I mixed right and left hand between channels and I explained why to do that you know right hand
[1596.08] ibcrazy: and left hand don't talk to each other so if you're on right hand the adjacent channels are
[1600.08] ibcrazy: left hand they come up in at like less than 10 percent the signal strength so that's another way
[1606.0] Jack: to cut the effective volume so can I also can I ask you know if you're watching someone's feed
[1613.28] Jack: on with a left hand antenna and they're um they're on right are you watching their reflections
[1620.8] ibcrazy: essentially now and again is that what that necessarily you know I get this question a lot
[1628.32] Jack: um yeah it seems like a timed like you know interference like it's clear and then you get
[1635.84] Jack: the and it's almost like you could almost set a set a metronome to it it's really strange yes
[1642.0] ibcrazy: and and okay this is a very complicated question and I'm glad you asked it but the truth is

[1690.96] ibcrazy: right hand or left hand dominant just like if you are right-handed that doesn't mean your left hand

[1705.68] Jack: also got the linear where what you're doing is using that ferrite choke to not have the signal
[1712.16] Jack: run down the aerial but you are going to get that a little bit and you could favor that because

[1721.44] ibcrazy: called antenna balance so uh the cable if you keep if you allow the cable to resonate the
[1727.04] ibcrazy: radiation pattern gets distorted you no longer get what you want however no antenna is purely
[1733.68] ibcrazy: right-handed or purely left-handed so there is a left-handed component to the right-handed antenna
[1739.28] ibcrazy: and a right-hand component to a left-handed so what's happening is when you're on a left-handed
[1744.64] ibcrazy: receiver antenna there's a there's you know and that signal's coming in there's the direct path
[1750.8] ibcrazy: with a very weak left-hand component and then there's reflected path where the main the main
[1757.92] ibcrazy: component reversed rotation and got in so you've got these two fighting signals you've got the
[1762.56] ibcrazy: reflection and the direct path both making it in a reflection if you lose a significant amount of
[1770.8] ibcrazy: signal strength so often that reflection is at the same strength as your um opposite rotation
[1779.2] Jack: component coming in oh so you get two videos at the same time but they multiple multi-path the
[1786.88] Jack: same video so you think it's interference but it's not it's multi-path videos looking exactly
[1795.52] ibcrazy: ah i get it yep in fact it's basically like running linear it's like running a dipole at
[1802.4] ibcrazy: one sixth the signal strength is about the best estimation i have at it so you would get this if
[1809.12] ibcrazy: you're running a left-handed antenna receiving a quad on a right-handed antenna at 200 milliwatts
[1815.6] ibcrazy: it looks about the same as if they were transmitting 30 or 35 milliwatts on a dipole

[2373.95] ibcrazy: a gosh i sort of know their names like but i can't gosh it's been forever um
[2382.11] ibcrazy: what was the other one the ab what abc which is which is a standard sinusoidal and those
[2387.55] ibcrazy: were the 9n12 piece a nine stator poles 12 magnets and that's a true sinusoidal motor
[2394.43] ibcrazy: those don't require the big capacitors on them because they're not constantly surging the voltage
[2400.51] ibcrazy: the voltage actually evens out on those versus the distributed lrk which is what we typically use
[2407.63] ibcrazy: the it surges the you actually get surges in those motors that go back through the electronics and
[2413.79] ibcrazy: that's what fries electronics and that's what you see in your goggles yeah right on the other hand
[2419.55] ibcrazy: a distributed lrk motor is easier to jam the brakes because what happens is the voltage
[2426.59] ibcrazy: rises very sharp than it flat lines and any if you're going to change speeds on that motor you
[2433.31] ibcrazy: it doesn't matter the position very much you don't have to there's actually a little processor inside
[2438.35] ibcrazy: your your speed control that senses the position of the motor and when it hits that peak and flat
[2443.39] ibcrazy: lines you can hit that motor at any time during that flat line to activate the brake um versus a
[2449.95] ibcrazy: sinusoidal it comes up and it has a rounded peak and then drops back down so peak detection is
[2455.95] ibcrazy: harder um so a speed control would actually work harder with the with a multi-rotor um to sense
[2464.03] ibcrazy: position to get the brake that quick braking action on a sinusoidally wound motor which makes sense

[2638.35] ibcrazy: headset on and this is this is a giant trimmerian setup with a scratch filter link yeah oh i don't

[2651.79] ibcrazy: wound motor and he the guy was so blown away by the fact that i wound my own motors um you know

[2664.67] ibcrazy: what got me in that art what got me that article was i got so much power out of that stupid motor
[2671.07] ibcrazy: because it was a really unique winding pattern i launched the plane
[2676.19] ibcrazy: and i just gave it all it was worth and this huge glider sat on its tail and rocketing straight
[2682.99] ibcrazy: up in the air and he was just like oh my god what motor do you have in that and i was like
[2689.39] ibcrazy: oh it's a hand wound scorpion 30 14 and i told him that you know the winding pattern and all
[2693.79] ibcrazy: that he's like as well geez he's there trying to write it down and i'm not looking at him i'm not
[2700.11] ibcrazy: looking at him i'm going to sit down and i'm putting my headset on and then he turns over
[2704.75] ibcrazy: you're not looking at your plane oh my god you're not looking at your plane it's like dude tell me

[2719.95] ibcrazy: believe it or not i tried to do my own motor line and um unfortunately it fell through
[2727.71] ibcrazy: that was another project i was doing trappy um i wanted my in fact i've got one of the motors
[2733.87] ibcrazy: sitting here on the desk um i can't build a motor in the state so it cost a fortune yeah um so trappy
[2742.11] ibcrazy: he found a motor manufacturer that he liked and i just started to design motors specifically for him
[2749.87] ibcrazy: and the problem we ran into was that this manufacturer couldn't build a motor
[2754.99] ibcrazy: to save their life they were really bad at it um i designed motors that i wound up here
[2763.63] ibcrazy: that were getting twice as much power as the ones that they could wind in china well and it's not
[2770.11] ibcrazy: unusual for a hand wound motor to have more power but to have twice as much as very unusual um in
[2777.15] ibcrazy: fact the motors were having had like 80 percent of the power that what we were already using had
[2785.07] ibcrazy: and it's like you know it says more power i'm generating almost 60 more power you're generating
[2792.99] Tony: you know 20 less with the same exact specs wouldn't there wouldn't there be a um market for
[2800.99] ibcrazy: hand wound believe it or not they've got cnc winding machines that wind motors better than
[2808.67] ibcrazy: you can wind by hand nowadays have you ever seen that dji motor yeah wind is perfectly stacked
[2815.15] ibcrazy: that that's actually a cnc machine that does that right um now cobra is still hand wound uh
[2822.03] ibcrazy: cobra motors are hand wound um i can tell because it's sloppy and it's done quickly but god gone
[2828.51] ibcrazy: because they pack a lot of copper into that stator um you know and and really that's what
[2833.63] ibcrazy: it sounds you need this counts because you're stuffing copper into that stator the more copper
[2838.19] Jack: you get into it the more power you get out of the motor right and and it you know if you scuff one
[2843.71] Jack: of the windings it skips yep as well that makes a big difference you got you got to wind it right
[2850.35] Jack: the first time not let anything bad happen to it oh yeah binary throttle says hello as well

[2879.87] ibcrazy: four minutes okay so when you spin a motor it's a generator a spinning motor is a generator it has
[2885.31] ibcrazy: back current that's how you activate the brake well if you've a shorted winding think about when
[2890.91] ibcrazy: you short a motor out short short the windings of the motor the three-phase motor touch three all
[2895.71] ibcrazy: three phase together and spin the motor it's hard to spin it's a magnetic break so what happens when
[2901.95] ibcrazy: you short a winding out there's literally a winding shorting itself out acting as a break
[2907.23] ibcrazy: working against the motor and heating up it only takes a matter of seconds before that thing gets
[2912.67] ibcrazy: red hot the copper becomes liquid goodbye motor so basically you've got a little auto transformer
[2918.99] ibcrazy: inside your motor that when that motor is turning you have a short circuit with however much current
[2926.91] ibcrazy: is running through the motor um so if you're running 10 amps let's say 10 amps through each
[2933.07] ibcrazy: phase of the motor and it has 22 turns guess what that shorted turn is pumping out 220 amps
[2941.15] ibcrazy: shit it's gonna last a couple of microseconds goodbye it's quick that's why a shorted turn
[2948.27] ibcrazy: that's why if a motor shorts out it's gone it's not like you can short out that turn and it won't
[2953.79] ibcrazy: work anymore like you you know you can't like remove it from the circuit if it's shorted that
[2958.19] Jack: motor is done yeah um what do you call it what's that you know you know when you know when uh when
[2966.11] Jack: a motor is like skipping a phase and it's we call it hunting do you call it skipping or tracking
[2973.47] ibcrazy: usually we call it tracking and it's in the speed control most of that's in the speed control it's
[2979.07] Jack: failure to detect the motor position yeah um uh gucci fpv says why is the trunk triumph so good
[2988.91] Jack: you say it's a jack of all trades right you missed that earlier on but why is it good

[3001.95] ibcrazy: to the the triumph it's it's uh the project's actually three years old it started a long time
[3008.27] ibcrazy: ago and we wanted a way to make a just a different literally the goal was make a different type of
[3015.55] ibcrazy: circularly polarized antennas that was that was the project that was handed to me no bent wires
[3021.63] ibcrazy: i want a different a trapeze said i want an antenna that nobody else has because everybody's
[3028.03] ibcrazy: they've already started to clone what you do i want something that nobody has ever seen before
[3032.83] ibcrazy: and so i worked on um a style called linden blad which um tony from fpvl law had made a parasitic
[3041.71] ibcrazy: linden blad and he couldn't get it to work so i decided um the linden blad was a good structure
[3050.51] ibcrazy: but you had to get around the physics that made it not want to work so i attempted to uh so i drove
[3059.31] ibcrazy: the elements so a parasitic elements like a yagi there's only one element that does everything
[3063.87] ibcrazy: and the other ones are called parasitics they kind of drive the signal and it doesn't work with
[3068.99] ibcrazy: circular it just doesn't work at all and and tony um had read some white some some people's articles
[3076.59] ibcrazy: on doing this and then came to realize that they really didn't know what they were talking about the
[3081.55] ibcrazy: antenna didn't work so but the structure was good it's just the method was bad so i fed the elements
[3089.31] ibcrazy: instead of using a parasitic element feeding the elements with a dipole in the middle i fed them
[3094.03] ibcrazy: with a micro strip and fed them directly so there wasn't any there wasn't anything going on inside
[3101.15] ibcrazy: the antenna that wasn't supposed to be there um and we were because we were using a dipole
[3108.11] ibcrazy: structure versus a one wavelength loop it got really small so we were able to bring the size down
[3115.23] ibcrazy: um and because of the way they're built um i designed it so it could be built repeatedly
[3122.67] ibcrazy: very quickly very repeatedly so you know things didn't like it wasn't up to oh it wasn't assembled
[3129.87] ibcrazy: right or something that would change the performance a performance is set based on the way the antenna
[3135.07] Jack: was designed straight out um and such a weird radiation pattern sorry i'm looking at it i've
[3141.87] Jack: never had a guest on where i literally have to google every every topic yeah well fascinating

[3235.23] ibcrazy: 5.8 gigahertz goes positive negative positive so fast the speed of light only moves two inches
[3242.67] ibcrazy: it's so insanely fast that we don't realize how high these frequencies are so if you would tilt
[3250.59] ibcrazy: so what we do is we space the dipoles away tilted at 30 degrees so i've got one here and i've got
[3258.27] ibcrazy: another one here so as a single approaches you okay this one gets to you first yeah then this
[3269.55] ibcrazy: one gets to you delayed they're a third of an inch apart guess what a third of an inch is 120 degrees
[3276.11] ibcrazy: guess what the difference in angle between these two is 120 degrees so what happens is this one
[3282.11] ibcrazy: gets to you then the two sides get to you which is vertical then this one back here gets to you
[3288.11] ibcrazy: and because they're physically delayed it adds up to a rotational wave and that's how it works

[3399.07] ibcrazy: the multiple pilots in the air thing the skew planer wheel doesn't work because of that
[3403.31] ibcrazy: elliptical pattern and that's why the skew planer wheel will never ever compete with the tbs triumph
[3412.35] ibcrazy: it won't it just can't there's just the tbs triumph is just built to the point where the
[3418.91] ibcrazy: open source designs that everybody's copying simply can't compete with it the physics are

[3651.31] ibcrazy: reflector behind the flashlight the light won't reach out as far and that's exactly what a
[3657.79] ibcrazy: directional antenna does you have a certain volume of air that you can fly within you can't
[3663.55] ibcrazy: the only way you can make it bigger is to increase your transmit power or decrease your or excuse me
[3670.99] ibcrazy: increase your transmit power or increase your receiver sensitivity this has nothing to do with
[3675.31] ibcrazy: the antennas so the a directional antenna takes that volume of air and changes the shape to drive
[3683.39] ibcrazy: it out in a specific direction so it's like a flashlight if you put if you take a light bulb
[3688.43] ibcrazy: and put it up with no reflector the light will go so far but if you put a reflector behind it and
[3694.43] ibcrazy: drive the light out away from it it's going to be a lot brighter in that direction but obviously
[3700.11] ibcrazy: behind the reflector it's going to be quite dim it's the same thing here the very exact same thing

[4115.33] ibcrazy: ignorance strangely which is the exact same thing that's harming multi-rotors but same ignorance um
[4122.53] ibcrazy: but you know what i found with fixed wing is that it caters to people who are in multi-rotors
[4130.05] ibcrazy: that are ready for something different because i don't care how many different multi-rotors are
[4138.37] ibcrazy: out there they will never fly as different as a fixed wing will so fixed wing is just a
[4145.41] ibcrazy: completely different set of skills it's a completely different way to fly it's very graceful um and i
[4152.77] ibcrazy: don't know how many people have asked me hey what flight controller do you put in it none and i
[4157.57] ibcrazy: just laugh we go guys the model airplane they've been around since the first airplane model airplane
[4163.89] ibcrazy: 1917 what flight controller do you think was in that um you know they don't use flight controllers
[4170.61] ibcrazy: and it's what the multi-rotor guy says what do you mean you know um so it's a completely different
[4175.89] ibcrazy: world so when the guys are starting to get tired of the multi-rotor thing you know but they still
[4182.29] ibcrazy: want to do fpv that they just they just want to try something different they go you know that fixed
[4187.73] ibcrazy: wing looks really good because they're faster they fly longer they don't they have they have
[4192.61] ibcrazy: you know a two-minute flight time on an airplane people like man you better put a bigger battery
[4196.85] ibcrazy: in that thing um you know where i was a multi-rotor it's common so if they're looking for longer flight

[4207.57] ibcrazy: into fixed wing all you do is buy a couple of servos and build it up that's it you know and so
[4213.97] ibcrazy: it's a very easy transition and the cool thing is you don't have to worry about oh somebody updated
[4220.21] ibcrazy: beta flight or somebody updated race flight i gotta update all my aircraft no it was never in
[4225.33] Tony: there in the first place yeah that's it yeah the 15 minutes of flight time from going from two
[4233.17] Tony: minutes flat out to 15 minutes and you can still go pretty fast oh yeah oh yeah that was the uh
[4239.65] ibcrazy: one of like a lot of people that fly multi-rotors that are big multi-rotor guys
[4243.89] ibcrazy: they pick up fixed wing just so they can fly longer that's the first thing they do
[4247.81] ibcrazy: and then they realize how much faster a fixed wing can go than a multi-rotor
[4252.37] ibcrazy: and then they go wow i really i really like the speed but the problem is is now you need a big
[4257.33] ibcrazy: field you know i can fly a multi-rotor in my backyard you know very very comfortably
[4264.21] ibcrazy: very few fixed wings fit my backyard and my backyard is bigger than most of yours you know
[4270.61] Jack: put together yeah you know it's like the size of whales here um i i remember you sitting in the
[4277.81] Jack: garden chair out in the field and getting your um uh you know uh flying your glider and like
[4284.21] Jack: saying how relaxing it is it was a tutorial on my fpv and you know like getting familiar with where
[4290.61] Jack: you are and you know um i i think you know your little um fpv bag i think it should be brightly
[4297.25] Jack: colored so it's like a return to home fpv bag you know make it like neon color so you can kind
[4302.69] ibcrazy: of see where you are in the field believe it or not that has a strobe inside there's a strobe light
[4308.77] ibcrazy: inside if i want no way activate there's a strobe light in there so yeah so why do they call you
[4319.25] ibcrazy: ib crazy um before i got into fixed wing uh before i got into fpv really um it was
[4333.41] ibcrazy: i was the type of guy who refused to accept everybody else's method i needed to come up
[4343.49] ibcrazy: with my own so when i was getting into fixed wing aircraft line of sight this is when i was
[4349.89] ibcrazy: 16 years old um pull my first one and then from there every other one had to be built
[4358.93] ibcrazy: from scratch as many components that i could build i would even if i could just go buy them
[4365.17] ibcrazy: and then i would show up to the field with these planes that were covered in like neon pink neon
[4370.53] ibcrazy: green covering you know and people go like why don't you make that look like a real airplane
[4376.77] ibcrazy: because i can't see what it's doing i i can see pink and green i can tell what's up and what's
[4382.61] ibcrazy: down i can't see like warbird gray it's meant to blend in you know and then i proceed to fly like
[4390.61] ibcrazy: an absolute nutcase you know really low to the ground extremely aggressive and they go dude you're
[4398.13] ibcrazy: crazy what the heck you're crazy and so it kind of stuck you know between the the scratch building
[4407.41] ibcrazy: everything from the ground up and refusing to buy anything that i could build to the ridiculous i
[4414.05] ibcrazy: mean i'd come home with almost every airplane wadded up in a ball you know they go out in the
[4419.49] ibcrazy: field with a broom and like sweep up my air but you had some yeah but the thing is i was learning
[4427.73] ibcrazy: yeah and now when i slam my my airplane into the you know the big the big struck the metal
[4436.29] ibcrazy: structure that they used to drone nationals at 90 miles an hour i pick it up and in 10 minutes
[4442.05] ibcrazy: the plane's repaired back in the air because i learned how to make them tough yeah but it
[4447.41] ibcrazy: literally the ib crazy name came from people saying dude you're nuts all the time from like
[4453.97] ibcrazy: some people would say you're nuts just to build your own planes why don't you buy them you know
[4458.53] ibcrazy: why are you actually go build your own hot wire cutter and all this stuff just buy an airplane
[4464.53] ibcrazy: build it and fly it why are you winding your own motors and then um and then of course they called
[4470.85] ibcrazy: me crazy when they saw me fly because i really didn't care if i crashed or not because when i
[4474.53] Tony: crash it cost me 50 cents to cut another plane you know are you flying through um like courses
[4483.49] Tony: like fpv courses do they do you go through tunnels hoops and on that or man i make courses
[4491.17] ibcrazy: um around here there's a lot of development going on so there's a lot of land that's being
[4499.33] ibcrazy: knocked where that's being deforested for housing developments and well you know after
[4506.45] ibcrazy: hours there are these stick built structures standing around with no walls they're perfect
[4513.89] ibcrazy: obstacles to fly through and they're all over the place so i make my own obstacle courses
[4520.85] Jack: oh my word oh it's great i mean can you imagine going up to the new homeowner and being like here
[4528.05] Jack: look at my dvr footage at first they're like what's dvr footage and then be like i flew through
[4534.21] Jack: your house you know i remember i i've gone 80 miles an hour through your kitchen that's right
[4544.13] ibcrazy: is there any more questions in there yeah i've yeah well you know when you do that i've actually
[4553.65] ibcrazy: done that to some people where i've gone back to the development and flown through other
[4557.73] ibcrazy: houses that were being built and they came up and asked what what i was doing and i'd show them
[4563.17] ibcrazy: oh that's really cool and i and i tell them you know and then i figure out there from that
[4568.77] ibcrazy: development i say you know i probably have videos somewhere of flying through your house before it
[4573.33] ibcrazy: was built you know before it was fully built and so if i find that i i take you know i take still
[4580.05] ibcrazy: shots or whatever so they have aerial photographs and photographs of their house before it was built
[4586.69] ibcrazy: so they kind of have some nostalgia about you know what was there before their house was
[4591.89] Jack: yeah so what i've got a question you know the old ibc crazy uh tbs patch antenna how's that
[4600.85] Jack: holding up nowadays because that is prehistoric man i think i think tony was 16 back when that
[4606.85] ibcrazy: was made um well i'll be honest you remember i said i didn't like the skew planer wheel
[4613.49] Jack: i don't like patch antennas either really do you know the forward
[4621.17] ibcrazy: i might have designed it but that doesn't mean i like it um and the reason i don't like it is
[4625.49] ibcrazy: the bandwidth is really narrow the bandwidth is um it's 5800 megahertz plus or minus about 60 megahertz
[4634.61] ibcrazy: and then it really works poorly uh patch antennas are narrow band um i just don't like them because
[4642.29] ibcrazy: they're very limited and a lot of my clients that are not in fpv that are in you know drone
[4649.73] ibcrazy: like full-scale uh drones aerial mapping mesh networking you know for internet services
[4656.77] ibcrazy: i'm swapping out their patch antennas for my other antennas and just blowing them away they
[4663.49] ibcrazy: are amazed at what change across here on there yeah the cross area is probably the most popular
[4669.33] ibcrazy: antenna that i swapped a patch out for but it's more expensive the patch was meant to be cheap
[4674.85] ibcrazy: and easy i mean it's a it's a really cheap and easy to produce antenna and it works it's just
[4680.77] ibcrazy: not the level of performance that i want you know i don't my motto is performance first
[4688.69] Jack: the patch you got form factor first yeah you know have you got any info you can give us because
[4696.05] Jack: when you were testing the connect system you had a little covered covered antenna can you tell us
[4701.89] ibcrazy: anything about that i can tell you i will be producing it as a commercial product but as
[4706.29] ibcrazy: far as what's under that cover not going to tell you so you're going to be producing a line of

[4720.05] ibcrazy: going to be uh about two months before i have the covers made um we just put in the order for
[4726.61] ibcrazy: the mold today so it'll be about two months before i actually get the covers in um from having the
[4733.65] ibcrazy: mold made to having the prototypes made verifying that it's right all that kind of stuff because
[4738.29] ibcrazy: it's gonna it's not going to get a laser cut cover on it like the rest of mine do um we're going to
[4743.49] ibcrazy: injection molded covers um again the market had shifted they want things that look like they
[4748.69] ibcrazy: remained a factory not hand built pieces of art which is what my business was founded on was
[4755.01] ibcrazy: that hand built hand craftsmanship well now they want a look of mass produced yeah i don't care
[4761.33] Jack: anyone says man i prefer prefer that like the handmade because like if you have any problems
[4767.09] Jack: with it you know like if you crack that you know the the front bit you can just you know get a bit
[4772.77] Jack: of ca remover and like you know fix things you've got a little bit extra white um coax
[4778.85] Jack: than you need to so if you break the end you know if you break it off you can re-solder it
[4783.33] Jack: it's those little things that they've made think about like this yeah if if you've designed
[4790.85] ibcrazy: something to be manufacturing friendly you've sacrificed performance you automatically do
[4796.37] ibcrazy: because you have to make it capable of being manufactured but if you don't and it has to be
[4803.09] ibcrazy: done by a craftsman you get a better product every time i mean come on talk about i mean
[4808.45] ibcrazy: you like the swiss watch i mean come on that's that that's in that the the the stereotypical
[4815.25] ibcrazy: built by a true craftsman and and then yeah you know that's the that's the top end so and that's
[4822.69] ibcrazy: what i want my antennas to be that top of the line performer um and they are and they are and
[4828.69] ibcrazy: that's the other side of it is i if i design them to be mass produced quickly they don't perform
[4835.89] ibcrazy: nearly as well as if they're made by hand um and the only exception to that is the tbs triumph
[4843.09] ibcrazy: that one was and that's why it's a jack of all trades because it was designed to be manufactured

[4873.17] Jack: video i'm guessing yes you do you do but you don't recognize it uh multi-passing in digital
[4882.53] ibcrazy: video looks like um the resolution drops your frame rate drops so or you get more lag so one
[4890.53] ibcrazy: of three things happens either your your your video starts to get laggy the resolution drops
[4897.17] ibcrazy: or the frame rate the physical animation speed drops so you don't see it as scrambling in your
[4905.41] ibcrazy: image you see it as a different type of distortion probably harder then probably worse well i think
[4914.21] ibcrazy: it's worse i'd rather see the distortion through distortion i can't fly through a freeze frame no
[4921.73] Jack: yeah locky pixels of the awful yeah i can't when it does drop it it drops doesn't it it just goes
[4929.97] Jack: through sharp yeah i mean um i i thought you'd just get glitching rather rather than actual
[4937.57] ibcrazy: multi-passing yeah it can show up as glitching but not very often um it's more like freeze frame
[4945.49] Jack: you know all kind of stuff all screen burn blur stuff you know is it the conic system you're
[4953.41] ibcrazy: working on you're still gonna have that problem because that's ingrained in the digital but
[4959.01] ibcrazy: kenex challenged me and uh they said we did 3.9 kilometers you're not gonna challenge your legs
[4968.29] ibcrazy: and um on our very first try my operations manager and i went out did 4.1

[5039.57] ibcrazy: wrong i'm turning around and coming back and the plane now we had hd video where the plane just
[5045.97] ibcrazy: stopped responding the the elevator stopped responding so it started dropping so mark found
[5052.13] ibcrazy: a field and he aimed at this best he could the base of the trees well what we couldn't tell
[5058.05] ibcrazy: because it's fpv was that that field was actually a hillside so the plane glided past the field and
[5067.49] ibcrazy: into the trees behind it and uh the way we got it back is going to be part of the video um i

[5083.97] ibcrazy: and it just didn't have enough force to get up 100 plus feet where the plane was so i went down

[5106.05] ibcrazy: shoot the tree down yeah i bought a a youth crossbow a full-size

[5272.77] ibcrazy: connects with a power hog we mark set the airplane down and we went to the recording
[5280.85] ibcrazy: of the video where we set the plane down and went to the last couple frames where was it going and
[5285.65] ibcrazy: we just walked it the problem was is it was a lot deeper into the woods than we thought
[5291.41] ibcrazy: we tried to track it down to the video signal because it was still transmitting but by the
[5296.21] ibcrazy: time we got because we flew over a mountain range by the time we went around the mountain and got
[5301.89] ibcrazy: to the plane the video feed had died so we had no battery on board the airplane because normally
[5309.25] ibcrazy: what we would do is we drive close pull out the the high gain antenna aim it at where the plane
[5315.25] ibcrazy: was and get the gps coordinates off of the airplane well by that time the battery had already died
[5321.41] ibcrazy: so we actually just went back to our recording and walked through the woods till we found it
[5329.41] ibcrazy: um and uh you know it took us six days of searching but i wasn't gonna let that plane
[5337.65] ibcrazy: go i mean it has a lot of really good stuff in it um and then when we because we were going it
[5343.89] ibcrazy: shouldn't be this deep and then i i was walking through a field and this is the other thing about
[5348.77] ibcrazy: this part of the country it's awesome i'm walking through the road i'm walking up to this guy's
[5353.73] ibcrazy: driveway who's a half mile off the road um and i asked him can i walk through your land to find a
[5360.05] ibcrazy: lost drone he's like oh sure i hunt on this land so if i see one what does it look like i'll give

[5730.45] ibcrazy: going on six years old now um and it's still kicking and it's still my favorite but i use
[5737.73] ibcrazy: the exact same antennas on that flytron that i that you can buy from a vendor they're the
[5744.53] ibcrazy: exact same ones mine are not improved they're the the ones you can buy from vas are the exact same
[5750.77] ibcrazy: ones that i use and then the crossfire antennas i designed so of course i use those yeah so i

[5777.17] NJ: hello um yeah the quick question was just about the the new hd systems right um and really was
[5784.93] NJ: was regarding the the kind of the latency issue with with it you know being up at these hd levels
[5792.37] NJ: and and is there a way i don't know whether it's with compression technology or not to be able to
[5798.05] ibcrazy: reduce that latency well believe it or not the kenex doesn't have any more latency any more
[5803.81] ibcrazy: latency than the screen does the kenex is uncompressed hd and i figured out the way it works
[5811.41] ibcrazy: each of those five antennas is an individual receiver and so what happens is the the signal
[5819.25] ibcrazy: is transmitted and it's encoded each part of that signal is encoded and then each of those five and
[5825.73] ibcrazy: five receivers pulls in a part of it and then the processor inside assembles the signal
[5834.37] ibcrazy: you know it takes all the code from each receiver and assembles it so there is a very very very
[5842.05] ibcrazy: small amount of delay in the reassembly but it's not like compression and decompression there's a
[5848.93] ibcrazy: very very small lag there um so the truth is the kenex is about as fast as hd is going to get
[5858.53] ibcrazy: because you've got lag in the camera scan speed which is only 30 frames per second
[5863.73] ibcrazy: if the camera would scan faster say 60 frames per second then you would see less lag if um your
[5871.09] ibcrazy: screen would refresh faster so your screen would refresh at 60 frames per second as opposed to 30
[5877.33] ibcrazy: that would decrease it if you're using a faster screen such as uh the fat sharks are much faster
[5884.45] ibcrazy: than my my um than my head plays that's going to decrease your latency so it's system latency
[5890.13] ibcrazy: overall my head plays are laggy as heck they're almost like i think with analog video they're
[5895.57] ibcrazy: almost an eighth of a second behind you know so when you hook a connects to it you start to see
[5901.01] NJ: the lag a little bit so so is that is that why i mean i know with these this connect system you
[5906.45] NJ: can actually run at the uh for instance a 720 resolution which is reduced and then you can get
[5913.09] NJ: a reduced latency latency running that is that correct i believe that's correct but i'm not
[5919.17] ibcrazy: entirely certain i only know what i've experimented with um and i've kept it in hq mode which is high
[5927.41] ibcrazy: quality mode i have not gone to the hp because we switched to the hp the high performance low lag
[5934.85] ibcrazy: all that kind of stuff mode to do our distance run because we knew we could push it a lot further
[5940.85] ibcrazy: and it looked like such garbage compared to the hq mode that we stuck with the hq mode
[5947.41] ibcrazy: um it's just the h the high performance i would run analog before i ran the high performance
[5953.81] ibcrazy: mode that connects it's it doesn't it offers zero advantages to run high performance mode
[5961.01] ibcrazy: um if you're going to run hd run hd properly you know otherwise run analog um but now grand that's
[5968.77] ibcrazy: my opinion i'm sure there's plenty of people that disagree with me but i mean you bought an hd system
[5973.81] ibcrazy: run at hd don't i mean it just it when you went to the hp mode that it just it just looked bad
[5981.73] ibcrazy: you know compared to that beautiful 720p picture we were getting and then it just went to like ew
[5990.69] ibcrazy: right gotcha so you know and that's personal preference but anything i have an hd video
[5995.97] ibcrazy: system on it's because i want to take in the view you know that's really interesting though
[6000.37] NJ: that the uh as you say each of those antennas is is getting a part of it and it's the like the
[6005.01] NJ: latencies in the reassembling as opposed to compression there's actually no compression
[6009.81] ibcrazy: i think that's right the clearview receiver interesting thing to know the clearview receiver
[6014.29] ibcrazy: from from iftron tech does the same thing it has two receivers built in it's not really diversity
[6020.05] ibcrazy: it reassembles the signal between the two that come into the diversity to make the signal
[6024.77] ibcrazy: so it's a similar thing um it's a similar concept and the reason you do that is because
[6032.93] ibcrazy: hd is very wide bandwidth the wider the bandwidth the less your sensitivities uh the less your
[6039.81] ibcrazy: receiver sensitivity can be so by breaking the receiver up into five different receivers
[6045.25] ibcrazy: and then putting it back together you can get three and four times the distance away
[6052.53] ibcrazy: that you could with one single receiver wowzers yeah it's it's there's a again this is there's a
[6061.89] ibcrazy: lot of tech to this it's not easy i i speak to you about this stuff because i've been in in like
[6069.89] ibcrazy: into it up to my neck for the last six or seven years so all right guys uh we're gonna have to
