Guest: HPI GUY https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCx-N0_88kHd-Ht_E5eRZ2YQ Co-Hoast: Tony https://www.youtube.com/user/TheTonstar1 Host: Jack https://www.youtube.com/user/brightontillifly [0.66] Jack: Let's drone out [27.07] Jack: Hello, and you should be listening to let's turn out every Thursday 8 p.m. [33.67] Jack: Somewhere on the internet 8 p.m. Ish [37.47] Jack: 8 p.m. It's always ish you have to put it yeah when we're done and we finished arguing Tony, right? [43.55] Jack: I am joined by my man slave who's thankfully not in a bit late. Is it layer? Yeah, Tony. Hello [51.03] Jack: Hello and our special guest [53.79] Jack: HPI guy [55.31] Jack: Hello [56.83] Jack: Hello, how you doing, man? He's a little nervous [62.43] Jack: For any of you who aren't in the know HPI is a brand called HPI racing [68.83] Jack: I'm guessing you used to race cars [73.07] Richard: RC cars not competitively like I do multi-rotors, but em [77.31] Richard: Yeah, yeah, I used to use them a lot and spend a lot of money on them [80.83] Jack: Yep, and you're a traitor you're to your first hobby. What do you say to yourself? [90.31] Jack: Trouble is cars break all the time, don't know [96.27] Richard: Well, I don't know the problem is any SC on the car that I last broke was 180 quid and as when I'm not doing that [103.27] Richard: For one eight one. Yes. See just forget it. That's a lot of longer in it for one. Yes. See [108.15] Jack: Yeah, that is that is a mental. What why I suppose the high current draw [115.63] Jack: To be honest, I didn't know anything [117.67] Richard: Things like that at the time if I did I was just bought a cheaper ESC [120.87] Richard: But I was obviously wanted to replace it at the time with an a proper HPI one and there were 180 quid [127.15] Richard: So yeah, forget that [130.23] Tony: Mental, isn't it? [131.79] Tony: What's the cheapest ESC you can get now for like in the UK? Probably [136.99] Tony: Six or six and a half quid. Yes [141.79] Jack: Yeah [144.11] Jack: He's mental well mind you we have to buy four of them [147.79] Jack: It's usually about a decent ESC is ten or a corner always by five. You should learn that by now [155.47] Jack: Yeah [158.35] Tony: You've got to buy five of everything five motors five ESCs it's just the thing [164.91] Richard: Four motors everywhere. No, I never ever buy five motors and I should start doing that [169.15] Richard: I should learn from my mistakes, but I don't learn [172.75] Tony: You definitely should buy five [176.83] Tony: I'm hopefully gonna order the new Emacs s cuz I love Emacs. I've got Emacs on all my quads [184.07] Richard: I was supposed to bring some back with me and test them on the first bench [187.55] Richard: Tonight, but I've totally forgot to bring them with me. So I'll do that next week instead. I'm here [192.11] Tony: They're pulling about 13 50 on a dowel for five by four [198.19] Richard: Well, uh two blade bad fry braid. Sorry [202.67] Richard: Um, right. Okay. I I thought they were actually pulling a little bit less [206.59] Richard: I seen someone do a thrust test and they were a bit less [208.91] Richard: Um, so, you know, I like to do my own test though to make sure yeah, it's always best to do it on your own [214.11] Tony: But I think this was uh engineer x who'd done it 13 i'm sure he posted it was dowel prop 13 50 [221.07] Jack: Shouldn't be listening to him [225.31] Jack: We're friends with um quad mcfly you should be listening to him and him alone [234.35] Tony: You can't just listen to one it's nice to have different opinions from different people, isn't it? [238.67] Tony: So when hbi does his tests I will watch these as well [243.71] Jack: Yeah consistent data though same thrust stand same esc same conditions [249.71] Jack: It's hard though, isn't it? [252.03] Jack: same same man cave [255.63] Richard: Well, that's how all of mine are done [257.07] Richard: I mean for the next one the only thing that's going to change for the first time ever is the battery i'm going to use the ac [262.43] Richard: Lipo's because I used to use the nanotech 1300s [265.63] Richard: Um, but they're a bit old now and people have moved on and using different batteries [268.91] Richard: So i'll use an ac 1500 next time [271.15] Richard: That's a good one [272.03] Richard: They're gonna change in in my things in my test the esc stays the same [276.43] Richard: You know the same bench. It's still sat there. It doesn't move it stays on that bench [281.07] Richard: So it should be the same results or better or worse whatever [284.59] Jack: How did you get into the hobby? [287.15] Richard: um, so [288.67] Richard: I was doing hbi cars [290.59] Richard: And as I say, I broke the esc and it was too much money and I was like, I just I don't want to do that [294.75] Richard: I want to hobby that's a little bit cheaper for break something on it [297.47] Richard: Because every time you took one of these cars out you were breaking it and it was costing you money [301.79] Richard: Uh, especially if you're running the nitro over the electric, um, you know that cost an absolute fortune. It was messy [308.65] Richard: smelly [310.11] Richard: Noisy and people were starting to not like me using it in the park [314.27] Richard: So I wanted to do something else and I remember always watching. Um, there's a movie called fx [319.31] Richard: I think it was it was about a guy's special effects and he was flying a small helicopter indoors [324.43] Richard: And I was thought wow one helicopter [326.75] Richard: So I started looking at helicopters and thinking okay, which one shall I get and that's when um, [331.39] Richard: I heard about drones and things and there's the the gowie at the time [335.39] Richard: And I thought oh, I'll get one of these gowie drones. They look amazing. And just as about to purchase it I heard about the phantom [341.87] Richard: Uh phantom one being released [343.95] Richard: So i've done a little bit of research on it and I was like, yeah, they they seem quite cool [348.11] Richard: Uh quad copters, um ended up posting a little video of one hovering outside their shop [353.15] Richard: Um, and I was like that's it. That's what I want [355.95] Richard: So I got in touch with them and made sure I got the first one [358.83] Richard: Uh that that was coming in I ordered it straight away [361.55] Richard: And it was to the point that I was so excited [363.39] Richard: I couldn't wait for the next day delivering that they said yeah, they're coming in they're on the way now [367.23] Richard: And I was like i'll be outside your house. I'll be there to get it showing off [370.99] Richard: And I got the first one in the uk and I was rushing home [374.91] Richard: And then mrs [375.71] Richard: Like we've got to go ikea i'm like no I want to get home and start doing videos with this thing [379.71] Richard: And I remember sitting there in ikea [381.23] Richard: She'd gone in and i'm opening up the box and just touching it all and playing with all this brand new drone [386.27] Richard: And it was really really exciting. So I I got into it as well because um [390.19] Richard: Well, I got into rc because of my leg [392.03] Richard: I had a motorbike crash I used to like to ride motorbikes and then I needed a hobby I could do sitting down [396.67] Richard: So remote controls was much easier for me than and safer [400.43] Richard: Uh to do them, you know some of some of the other hobbies out there [403.95] Richard: So that's why I got into the rc done the cars and then went to the to the drones [407.55] Richard: Um, that's basically how I got into it really [410.35] Jack: how long [411.87] Jack: Before you got forward to the final one [414.27] Richard: Not not really that long. No, no, it was it was it was quite long actually thinking about because [419.47] Richard: It didn't have fpv on there. You just had to stick a gopro 2. I think it was on the bottom [424.67] Richard: The yellow there was lots of issues [426.99] Richard: So I was always doing work around to try and fix all the issues and then it was like well [430.91] Richard: I want more range. What can I do? So it was how to modify or stick a new radio in there [435.63] Richard: So I was modifying um putting futaba thj's in there [438.99] Richard: So you could do a mile range and things and then it snowballed from there then because people were like [442.91] Richard: Yeah, I want more range so they would watch the video and do it [445.71] Richard: And then I think there's something else new to do and then start my first fpv experience [450.67] Richard: uh, and and that was on real learning to fly fpv [455.47] Richard: And it's just snowballed from there really [458.35] Tony: It was just the same same as me that's exactly all I done [462.75] Tony: Not that got that they got the phantom one fpv'd it [467.39] Tony: What's all your stuff? [469.71] Tony: Didn't do the futaba stuff couldn't afford it. But just um ended up finding out you could turn the [475.79] Tony: Uh tx over on the phantom and turn that dial up. Yeah. Yeah on the back to give it more range [482.59] Richard: It was in those days because there was all these little holes in the back and things and nobody knew it was like [487.39] Richard: Oh, what if I do that? Oh, no, I did like ruin the the settings or something. So nobody [493.47] Richard: Yeah, so it was really good times then [496.91] Tony: It was I enjoyed that i've bought the phantom one phantom two and i've still got a phantom three [502.11] Tony: Which I enjoy flying now. I haven't flown it for about a month and a half, but [507.31] Tony: There's still such a good machine and now dejo brought out the uh [511.71] Tony: Phantom four [513.23] Tony: Is it pro? [515.15] Richard: Yeah inspired to buy two and last month's the the mavic as well for the mavic today [520.83] Richard: That's a really good little machine quite quite like it. But um, whether I need one or not, I don't know [527.23] Jack: I I justine just she loves the mavic man. That's all that comes up [533.95] Jack: in my light suggestions [536.83] Jack: Yeah, yeah, she's all about that. I mean gopro karma that got recalled. How mental is that? [544.43] Richard: Yeah, I think they called that karma because it was supposed to be karma against eji wasn't it [549.31] Richard: Yeah, but that [551.07] Tony: Just didn't work. Did it? [552.75] Jack: That's a bit of shame [554.91] Jack: Apparently the reports the the news on those that [559.79] Jack: They just fall out the sky [561.87] Jack: Oh [562.75] Jack: That's that's the issue. Apparently that's the official [566.27] Jack: By the way, it falls out of the sky [569.71] Tony: Why don't they send these things out for testing? [572.99] Richard: Yeah [573.79] Richard: Well, did you I used to do that in the early days? [575.95] Richard: They would send the machines out to dealers to people that knew what they were doing [579.71] Richard: And then they would be to test them and and and give feedback [583.71] Richard: but now they just do all their own thing and then send it to you know, uh, [588.03] Tony: Someone like ijustine or casey nice that or casey or casey who just [592.91] Jack: Flies over new york and doesn't give a monkeys. I know. I know. Um, I was trying not to mention him [599.95] Jack: like [600.99] Jack: Sorry, but I watch I watch his videos because you know, he's a interesting fun guy and everything and [609.63] Jack: He gets so lucky such a jammy son of a bitch. Yeah [614.27] Jack: I just am I allowed to say [616.91] Jack: I got in trouble once, uh, like a little function after a wedding and I had a dog male dog and I went [624.43] Jack: Maxi you son of a bitch and everyone was really horrified and then I went it is true [634.11] Jack: Yeah, but son [639.15] Jack: Yeah [643.95] Jack: No, I had I had a message I am i'm slowly getting back to there of um [647.87] Jack: Gary ken and he was just like I thought the show had finished. I thought you'd put your mouth [653.07] Jack: You know your foot in your mouth again and like got in trouble and there was all heads were rolling [658.83] Jack: You know like you've totally done something and there's no more show you've been cancelled and I was like no [664.51] Jack: Uh good news. The editor has come back [667.39] Tony: Good because we're behind like five episodes. So sorry people [672.03] Tony: We are behind about six episodes, but they are on their way out to soundcloud, etc [677.79] Jack: The good news is I fixed everything. I've got a pile of stuff that sticks [681.79] Jack: All i've got to do is sit around and flash everything [684.59] Jack: depending on what everyone wants [687.23] Jack: flash [688.51] Tony: So yeah, so what are you flying at a moment rich? [691.55] Tony: What did you take to career? Do you want to talk about career? [694.51] Richard: Yeah, I only fly one frame now and that's the x hover. Um r5 lx [700.43] Richard: um, I got tired of switching between frames or having [704.03] Richard: um [704.51] Richard: Say three different frames when I go to a race and everyone feels different. Everyone has a slightly different setup [709.87] Richard: Uh, it's like, you know btx and things like that. So I just went you know [712.75] Richard: What i'm going to standardize in the whole fleet [715.31] Richard: So i've got about five or six now of the x hovers [718.59] Richard: uh, the only difference being is the motor kv [722.11] Richard: so it depends on the course and the track and things then i'll switch with the [725.39] Richard: Um the the props to match and use the the the the right machine [730.27] Richard: And it's going to be best for that course really [732.43] Richard: And then obviously if a deck one [734.67] Richard: It's easier to just pick one up and take another one out of the box and get going [738.51] Richard: And fix the other one during a bit of downtime [741.55] Richard: Because sometimes at some races the turnaround can be quick. Sometimes it's quite quite long. So you've got time to fix stuff and that [748.43] Richard: Um, I just I just don't like having to fix something [751.23] Richard: Um out in you know in the pits and then the first chance you get to test it is in your next race [756.67] Richard: Um, and and you know, you could you might not fix it, you know [759.71] Richard: As well as you think you've fixed it and then you have a problem and in the end you've ruined that race [764.27] Richard: That um gives me well, that makes me rage quick then I get really fed up of everything [768.67] Richard: I just like want to go home [770.27] Richard: So it's just easier for me to go right another quad [772.99] Richard: I know it's the same take that fly that fix the other one in my in in the bare time [777.31] Richard: So i'm not stressing yourself out [779.71] Tony: It is stressful, isn't it? How do you feel about um, if if everything got standardized and everyone had to fly the same thing? [787.95] Richard: Um, I I would be happy about that [790.03] Richard: I've got no problem doing that at all [792.35] Richard: If everyone had to say fly, you know qav with these motors and them escs and and that flight controller and a particular battery [799.95] Richard: I'd be happy with that. I would [802.35] Richard: It'd be very interesting to see as well the difference it makes between the pilots would sometimes start to you know [808.35] Richard: Would you see someone else winning instead of luke and gary? [811.55] Richard: um [814.19] Richard: So it would be nice I like the way um [816.83] Richard: Is it drl they make you don't they they make you use all the same quads [821.87] Richard: You can set up the machine with the pids and rates that you want. So it flies the way you want people keep the [827.31] Richard: Pidgable stuff all the same. I'd like that [830.19] Tony: Yeah, I think it's a good idea because it's um, I mean it's got it's good and bad points, isn't it? [834.75] Tony: I mean people who just starting who are good at flying and racing and who haven't got [840.43] Tony: um [841.39] Tony: Six quads to take with them. Yeah only one [844.83] Tony: It's going to be better for them. I mean, is that the norm now to make six quads? [849.87] Richard: It's starting to go that way. I mean the first time I seen it was uh, say about three three months ago, uh in chucheon in [857.87] Richard: Korea the first time I went there who was it kim tang [862.27] Richard: And johnny, I think it was uh, johnny fpv [865.31] Richard: They opened up their boxes now the identical quads all just stacked in and I was like that's what I need to do [870.75] Richard: I've not seen anyone doing it before so I didn't want to do it. I don't know. I don't know why I didn't want to do it [876.99] Richard: But now yeah, i've done it to all my quads. It's it's the money, isn't it? Really? [883.39] Richard: Totally I sold a lot of stuff [884.75] Richard: I had a wall full of quads that I didn't fly that much and I just went you know what i'll get rid of all this [889.71] Richard: And because it's just gonna get you know, it's gonna depreciate anyway [893.23] Richard: Um and do it that way. I didn't actually have the money [896.03] Richard: I just sold everything I had and then started from it from a scratch. That's that's that's the way to go. Yeah [902.75] Jack: I'm just getting what? [904.59] Jack: What are hpi knuckles knuckles? [908.19] Jack: Yeah, hpi knuckles are 15 quid and made of cheese [913.39] Richard: All right. So I think that's the bit where the um, the prop shaft goes down [917.23] Richard: Uh to like a like a copper thing and they they do wear out [921.55] Jack: Yeah, well done. Uh, when will the batteries catch up, uh to the demand? [926.59] Jack: I mean the ant demand motors and eses are way out there batteries kind of on the [932.35] Jack: Kind of hold back in my opinion [937.47] Richard: Yeah [940.11] Richard: Hard one to answer nobody really knows we need we [942.19] Richard: We need a leap in technology. I thought graphene was going to be it, but it doesn't seem to be [948.03] Jack: What about you? [949.71] Jack: Don't you have a wall of quads to sell? [953.39] Richard: He just said that and he sold them all yep sold them all and then bought all fresh [958.19] Tony: Ah [959.15] Tony: All fresh the same [960.91] Jack: Yeah [962.11] Jack: That's daniel x hover, isn't it man? What's it like getting parts though for that because he's out in the usa? [968.51] Richard: Uh, I've got a good relationship with daniel. I've I've had a few of his quads in the past. Um [973.23] Richard: And he's just a really nice guy. It's easy. It's easy to get stuff out there. Um, yeah, I don't have a problem at all [980.11] Tony: Are you not getting stung with any? [982.27] Tony: Bloody, uh, I just got stung with a 68 quid [986.91] Tony: Import tax for bloody free dodos, which i bought [991.79] Richard: Uh four months ago. Oh, no. Yeah, I get stoned all the time [996.03] Richard: In fact, I just paid the fedex bill on another two then and what's really annoying is that uh, the charge was four pounds [1002.03] Richard: And then after they put all their charges on it was up to 16 or 18 pounds. I can't remember [1006.51] Tony: It's it fries my brain. It really does. I know my my bill now for my [1014.03] Tony: Tax import tax it was more than the three boards i purchased from america. Yeah [1020.91] Richard: Yeah, I think that's not [1023.31] Jack: But it's just it's a it's a bug or anything. It's a joke. It is it's daylight robbery [1029.71] Jack: Is it gonna get worse with brexit? Oh sure. Sure. Out comes the tin foil hat [1036.43] Jack: Ah, just oh here we go [1040.11] Tony: He's got his hat [1043.15] Tony: If you uh want to wear this you've actually got the real flat earth on your hat [1047.79] Jack: Yeah, look there's a little tin foil hat. It says flat earth on it [1052.19] Jack: Fuck the lizard people are taking over. This is the segment of the show [1056.91] Jack: Tony i've had some questions in about you and flat earth [1060.59] Tony: No, i'll pull point all my stuff to eric dubai. Look at his youtube channel [1066.51] Jack: Yeah, but it's no fun like that. So tony. How does it work? [1070.43] Jack: Is the sun just the light bulb and is it swinging about that's from fab? [1075.55] Tony: Do you really think that the earth? [1078.43] Tony: is [1080.01] Tony: Revolving at a thousand mile an hour traveling through space and time [1084.59] Tony: And all everything sticks to it with the gravity and all that [1089.95] Tony: The height you go it's still flat you put a level in a water it's flat flat flat [1094.51] Tony: Look at eric dubai. It's flat. The earth is flat when you realize do your research [1098.59] Tony: You will come back to me and go actually that guy's right [1103.07] Jack: Guy this is the part of the show where we ignore the guests and argue between ourselves [1108.61] Jack: Rich what do you think? What shape do you think the earth is? [1112.93] Jack: Uh, I don't say oh bloke spear [1116.61] Tony: He's flat rich. Look at when he when he go flying look at the mental don't listen to him [1122.13] Tony: He's flat [1123.97] Tony: anymore [1126.05] Jack: How was uh, well no actually dubai [1129.57] Jack: We don't think about that because I I run into you was it the gadget show? [1134.61] Jack: I think it was [1135.97] Jack: yeah, and you you gave me like a little bit of a little bit of a low down and and [1141.57] Jack: Told us about the cameras and you had to keep the the the streaming cameras going and plugging in one battery before carry on [1149.01] Richard: Yeah, yeah, that's right. So that was a bit stressful our normal pit stopper [1152.77] Richard: In fact, we hadn't even practiced pit stop or anything [1155.25] Richard: Anyway, so it was already stressful enough [1156.77] Richard: But one mistake in that pit stop you would if you unplugged any power from the uh, the machine [1162.77] Richard: Then the hd system would turn off and it would take about two minutes [1165.97] Richard: Properly for it to turn back on and broadcast again [1168.53] Richard: So they said if you do that if you unplug then you'll disqualify from the whole competition [1172.61] Richard: So there was a there was a lot of stress there all of a sudden for just a change in a battery [1177.57] Richard: and um [1178.77] Richard: They said oh we will give you a connector [1180.85] Richard: So when you land you can plug in what they called the house power into the quad [1184.29] Richard: So there was power constantly on there so you can change your battery [1187.41] Richard: But when we were um, these were left out in the rain and things [1190.29] Richard: We had a really bad storm out there [1191.65] Richard: But when we tried to plug it in it was really freaking the quads out [1195.57] Richard: Um and the flight controllers. Yes, these are all doing crazy things when we plugged it in so we were like [1200.05] Richard: This isn't safe, you know, um, we we don't like it [1202.93] Richard: So we had two xt60s on there [1205.57] Richard: So you could land plug nxt60 in and then quickly take the uh, the other one off because again [1211.25] Richard: Putting that fresh battery in with the old battery would surge into that old battery and the battery that's just been used [1217.81] Richard: And uh caused problems again with the the things like osd and and the flight controller again. So [1223.65] Richard: Um, it was a little bit stressful. Just just because [1226.85] Richard: You're the pit stop guy luke luke was was flying and if I mess up I ruin it for him [1233.57] Richard: That was the scary thing. I didn't want to ruin it for it for anybody else. So me and uh, dominic quickly [1238.61] Richard: Decided to team up and we would do it and talk [1241.97] Richard: To each other whilst we were doing we had our procedure that we would do [1245.17] Richard: Uh, just just just to stop any mistakes and two people being there, you know [1248.61] Richard: Two people's better than one you can spot the if the other guy's about to make a mistake and so on [1253.17] Richard: So it worked out really well [1254.85] Richard: Um, I think our last pit stop [1256.85] Richard: Was uh was maybe three seconds longer than than it should have been really [1261.09] Richard: But we would just double check and everything and luke caught up and got back up in front anyway [1266.29] Richard: So the pit stops were new they were quite good [1269.41] Jack: Yeah, because didn't you go out there to try and apply? [1273.09] Jack: and qualify [1275.09] Richard: Well, we were told um before leaving. Yeah, you could go you could go and um have a go at qualifying and things [1281.73] Richard: And when we got there, that wasn't the case. That wasn't the case at all. Unfortunately [1285.17] Richard: I would have loved to have flown on the track and things but no, um, we did have an internal [1290.21] Richard: Uh thing where all the guys were timed. In fact, I ended up running that so I didn't fly at all [1296.05] Richard: When I was there. I just ended up helping out and being a tech and doing the timing and things [1300.21] Richard: So we done a an internal, uh, we've done a track and then done an internal race [1305.09] Richard: I was timing everybody we got all the fastest times and those were the guys that we then chose to go through to do the um [1311.65] Richard: The indoor course with lit that was lit up with all the leds [1314.77] Richard: Yeah [1315.41] Richard: There was a few pilots that did go and um didn't get a chance to fly in the races [1319.81] Richard: Uh themselves because they didn't make it through our own internal, um race, you know the times went good [1326.61] Richard: um [1327.49] Richard: but yeah [1329.25] Jack: it was a funny lot of arguing and stuff I hear and [1333.09] Tony: yeah, a lot of [1336.45] Tony: We heard things about the money and like not getting paid on time and you had to front it all yourselves and things like that [1344.21] Richard: yeah, yeah, well, um [1346.69] Richard: We we didn't have to worry about too much about the money because that was all down to our manager [1351.73] Richard: And they were sort of know that out. Um, and we were just going to you know, do what we could do and um [1358.61] Richard: um, um, just try and um do what we could do on the money that we had and then just borrow money if we had to [1364.69] Richard: And that's that that was the case. We had to borrow money [1367.41] Richard: Um, richard richard helped us out because they changed the dates as well. Uh during the final I think it was [1372.77] Richard: um [1374.21] Richard: We would choose to fly out [1376.29] Richard: And then they had to change everyone on our team [1378.29] Richard: That's about all new flights forward and for you know [1380.93] Richard: Like 24 hours later or 12 hours later and it costs like 20 odd grand just to do that for all of us [1386.13] Richard: Wow, yeah richard paid for that out of his own cash at the time [1389.89] Tony: To keep us all there. Oh, that's crazy [1393.17] Richard: But yeah, the prize money everyone was waiting for as well [1397.01] Richard: um [1398.13] Tony: And and people are still waiting to get paid for it naughty naughty, isn't it? [1402.77] Tony: We we keep hearing this [1405.49] Tony: in america in what [1409.33] Tony: We spoke to quite a lot of people and they keep saying that people [1413.41] Tony: Keep giving it the talk and then they don't pay out and it's starting to really annoy everyone [1419.89] Richard: Yeah, yeah. Well, there's there's going to be people out there that are going. Do you know what i'm going to [1424.21] Richard: Be very serious about this. I'm going to train hard [1426.61] Richard: I'm going to use my own money to get out here and i'm going to try and compete [1429.73] Richard: Because then if I win the money that's going to sort me out for the rest of the year to be able to compete [1435.25] Richard: and and live basically, uh, so when when you get the uh, the the guys that you know [1440.21] Richard: The the people that run in the races not paying out quick enough then the the guys do struggle [1446.69] Richard: It's not fair. Is it really? Yeah, so we went we went to korea [1450.37] Richard: Uh, I came back on sunday night and we had a couple hundred quid between us [1456.13] Richard: uh, because we went as a team, um myself, uh james balls and uh aaron [1462.05] Richard: We only had a couple of quid between us and when we got to the hotel they said oh, it's going to be 300 000 [1466.85] Richard: And we were all looking at each other going we can't what we're going to do guys. That's all our money [1473.97] Richard: No money to eat or anything and then we were like can't we get all in the same room? [1477.65] Richard: They were like no, no, no, we were like no we can sleep on the floor. Give us another blanket [1481.49] Richard: We were we were on a proper proper small budget [1484.69] Richard: When we got out there [1485.41] Richard: I mean we got off at the airport not knowing what bus to get because we [1488.37] Richard: Needed to get on the bus for an hour and a half to get to the hotel [1491.49] Richard: We didn't know what was going to happen. It all worked out. Well in the end and [1494.69] Richard: Um jab and aaron share the bed together. I had a single bed to myself [1499.01] Richard: We all got in the same room and um, it worked out [1501.97] Richard: Well, um, but yeah [1503.81] Richard: Some guys are doing it on a small budget and then some you've got guys doing it on a on a on a really big budget [1508.93] Richard: Getting per diems getting decent money per day getting paid for being there [1513.17] Richard: Yeah, so, um, I don't know. It's it's hard when you're not getting paid [1517.25] Tony: It is [1518.29] Tony: It does sound like a [1520.53] Richard: Well, it's all good that you know, the thing is we we love doing what we're doing [1524.21] Richard: So when you're so passionate about it, it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter at all [1527.65] Tony: I see you you do take sleeping with james bowls [1531.57] Tony: on the chin [1535.33] Richard: Yeah, i've got i've got some pictures of them they're not like i'm not allowed to share here [1539.89] Richard: No, I'm lying in bed together [1542.93] Tony: I think we should have one of them posted out. This is a sneaky one [1546.85] Richard: Uh, see matthew's thing that how come none of that was sorted if you had sponsors to pay for you guys to go over there [1551.97] Richard: so we did have a couple of sponsors to pay for us, um and [1555.49] Richard: Uh, we were asking for the money, you know, it's we're about to leave. Can we have the money? [1558.77] Richard: Can we get the money where you know, we're getting on the plane [1560.85] Richard: It's literally getting on the plane and sponsors hadn't given given us money [1564.05] Richard: We were hoping to get there and the money to be transferred and stuff like that and um, believe it or not [1568.61] Richard: We got there and and I think it was one of the sponsors didn't even bother to reply to any of us after saying [1573.17] Richard: They're going to pledge this money to us [1575.49] Richard: And being in contact with us constantly [1577.49] Richard: Yeah, they sent us nothing. So we were like wait, we're already short on funds and now they've dropped out [1583.17] Richard: um [1584.05] Richard: And we were we're not getting a lot of money from these sponsors at all. Um [1589.17] Richard: Korea themselves the um, the korean it's actually the korean government paid for the flight which really helped [1595.17] Richard: You know, that's a big expense when it's like 500 pounds each [1598.53] Richard: So so, um, we only had a couple of hundred pounds [1601.09] Richard: I mean when we're saying sponsors here you think oh they'll get this paid for they get that we had nothing [1605.17] Richard: We had to wear our own t-shirts from from our last race and ibefa, which we've only got one t-shirt [1610.37] Richard: Um, you know, we don't have multiple things. So [1613.41] Richard: Our team's a very small team, but we we get by with what we've got and we seem to do. All right with it as well [1619.65] Tony: It's nice that you you you're coming across and saying like that because people on the outside go [1624.21] Tony: Oh, look at them. Look they're going out there, you know, and they've got this they've got that [1628.45] Jack: cocaine they get [1630.53] Jack: Sent to the hotel room while these two guys share in a single bed, you know [1637.01] Jack: That's the hbi guy [1640.53] Jack: Right off it [1643.09] Richard: Honestly, I think some people will be surprised on on how little money we actually have to to do what we're doing [1649.25] Richard: And you know the exploits these guys. Um [1652.77] Richard: I've got plenty of money plenty of sponsors plenty of backing and plenty of help and experience [1657.65] Richard: um [1658.61] Richard: Where we're going out on our own just just just us free lads not knowing where we're going out [1663.89] Richard: We're getting there and everything. It was a little more exciting. Um, and you know [1668.61] Richard: It worked out really well and it's made it give us a lot of memories [1672.77] Tony: Yeah [1675.01] Tony: Aaron placed well, it was a good it was a track that I would have liked a big [1680.21] Tony: big gates fast [1682.53] Richard: Yeah, yeah [1683.97] Richard: I really enjoyed it this time last time I went there I took um [1687.17] Richard: The wrong quads, you know, they're all 2400 kv with [1690.37] Richard: The wrong props and things and I was like the guy with the fastest quads going to win here on this this particular track [1695.49] Richard: Because it was very open compared to the track we went on this time [1698.69] Richard: Um, and sure enough that was the case [1700.53] Richard: I mean I just left the throttle full open last time just kept on it kept going around and I just couldn't keep up with [1705.25] Richard: Everyone even though I was on full throttle [1707.41] Richard: This time um, I i'd learned from that mistake and as I say I have different quads different motors [1711.65] Richard: So I could you know adjust for the track now [1714.05] Richard: Um, so it made a real big difference. Um, and I always got kept getting put in the air races with you know, minchank him [1721.25] Richard: zach [1725.25] Richard: All the fast people were in my group and I was I looked at aaron [1727.97] Richard: I was like I don't [1729.17] Richard: Anyone in aaron's group was like aaron. Come on swap with me. He's like no. Nope. Nope. So yeah [1735.49] Richard: He had an easy pass [1737.89] Tony: Minching kim that that that kid is quick. How old is he? [1742.13] Richard: Is he younger than banney? I think he's around the same age, isn't he? [1746.29] Richard: Same age. Yeah. Yeah, he's taller than banney now [1750.29] Tony: They're both bloody quick aren't they them too? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, absolutely [1755.15] Richard: Ridiculously quick but the funny thing was um, I don't know what it was this time [1759.49] Richard: I don't know if it's because I couldn't understand what everyone was saying [1761.81] Richard: So I wasn't really stressed out, you know taking everything in I was just kind of sat there in the moment [1766.45] Richard: Um, I actually really enjoyed it [1768.45] Richard: Um, you know, it's just listen out for the beeps. All right [1770.61] Richard: Look, it's time to go kind of thing where normally i'm like even it actually is i'm sat there going [1774.77] Richard: Why am I doing this to myself? Because when i'm on the line I get [1779.25] Richard: Yeah, I get it. It's just out [1781.25] Richard: Yeah [1782.05] Jack: I can I can tell you're stressed out. I'm always like is there anything I can do to like churn them out other than drugging [1788.69] Jack: I'm like smoky. Have you got any of those painkiller things like, you know, like i'm [1794.05] Jack: holding down [1795.41] Tony: That's the same though. There's people who really look like they really enjoy it like banney [1799.41] Tony: Just go doesn't race and then go lands. It goes. Oh, that was [1802.93] Tony: Easy you lot [1804.69] Tony: Yeah, and then like i'm there stressing. I was there the night before at the national stressing or better have a whiskey [1811.01] Tony: See if I can do this [1812.85] Tony: and like the build-up to it and then the [1818.29] Tony: And then you crash on the first gate and you go, oh you idiot if I was flying with my mates [1822.29] Tony: I'd be in the lead and all that lot and you yeah [1825.97] Tony: it is a lot of [1827.65] Tony: That stress really does do it really [1831.01] Tony: Does it for me as well? I know exactly what you mean [1833.89] Richard: Listening to that start up tune, you know the beep beep beep because when I start hearing that that's when my heart starts pumping [1840.05] Richard: I'm like, oh my god, it's happening. It's about to happen. Ah [1843.09] Richard: So yeah, I need to like condition myself to those beeps or something [1846.37] Jack: Yeah, i'm gonna start playing them when I get a sleep. What's it called? Is it pavlers dog or something pavla pavla? [1853.49] Jack: No pavla, you know, like you know [1855.17] Jack: He did the experiment he brings bells and then feeds the dogs and the dogs he rings the bell and the dogs start salivating [1862.85] Jack: Is it I can never remember what it's called [1865.41] Jack: Maybe we should train you guys like that, you know, like the beeps go off and then you get to look at something nice [1875.01] Tony: And then we we we get palpitations and I need to go for like we and all that [1879.49] Richard: Yeah, yeah, no that's one thing i'm I definitely do do I have me nervous way i've got to run off and have it a quick [1889.17] Richard: Oh, it's all right rich, yeah, no, no, no, it's just nerves just nerves. I'm it's not me [1895.33] Jack: No, it can't all be like new tone [1898.45] Jack: marking marking your prehistoric territory [1901.33] Jack: Yeah, give me a little bit [1903.81] Jack: I remember I was I was there like you were running about and someone crashed out and restarted the race [1909.49] Jack: And I went and took your transponder off and I was like, here you go [1912.93] Jack: It's like you got plenty of time and you ran back and forth before you actually went [1917.33] Jack: Oh, actually i've got enough time to put it on and I was just like [1921.65] Jack: Uh, you know i'm trying to help but you just wind yourself up a bit more. It's [1926.69] Jack: You know, yeah [1929.97] Tony: It's not it's not easy like them beeps will haunt me. Do you know that do you know when you die? [1935.33] Tony: Do you know that bit where I say you hear or have flashbacks i'm gonna be [1943.89] Jack: Gates i'm the worst at I just can never get through gates [1947.97] Jack: I'm so bad of them unless i'm going the wrong way around a track. Then i'm great [1953.25] Tony: Yeah, let's not talk about that [1957.89] Jack: Um, oh god, what what else has been uh, what's happening? Do you want to mention the uh, tvs? [1965.41] Jack: Um instagram we spoke about that earlier. Yeah. Yeah [1971.33] Richard: I'm uh, well i'm probably starting to get a name for myself a rage quitting [1975.01] Richard: I rage quit all the time if something's not going my way [1977.81] Richard: It's getting thrown or something and that happens yeah out about it just to get me frustrations out. I'm not trying i'm not [1984.69] Richard: Naturally nasty or anything, but you know, it's like we've been trying to work on something electronics for for so long [1989.57] Richard: You spend hours on you're like, why is it not working? I've done nothing to it [1993.81] Richard: And yeah with that happened with me with tvs with the power cube and I [1998.37] Richard: I read a big way with my uh instagram rage quit review [2003.01] Jack: Have you got a link for it man? I was wetting myself when you know, it's so funny [2007.89] Jack: Like have you got is it hpi? [2010.53] Jack: Or is it that hpi guy on insta? It's so funny. I remember seeing that [2016.93] Jack: You know this uh tvs [2018.93] Richard: Um, no, this is beast bs. This is bs. That's b. Yeah, and i'm just starting to throw in it and yeah, man [2026.53] Richard: Win that through it that hard. There's still a dent in it and the metal things on the windows [2030.13] Jack: Oh my word, like there's something else man. We've all been there though [2034.93] Richard: But I feel like the only one that has these problems like for example, like these cmx motor problems i'm like [2040.61] Richard: Look, this why this is brand new. Why is it not working? I've done nothing to it [2044.37] Richard: They said they've updated it. It's new version blah blah blah and nobody else is having a problem [2049.01] Richard: Why is it always me? So then I rage quit and post about it and start throwing things [2053.57] Richard: If if anything man, it's funny. Everyone comes out the woodwork then starts messaging me going. Oh, i've got that problem [2058.93] Richard: Yeah, i've got this i've got that and i'm like, well, why is nobody talking about it? [2062.05] Richard: Why is everyone just still buying the crap? [2064.13] Jack: Yeah [2064.37] Jack: Well a lot of people are ashamed that they they break stuff all the time [2068.29] Jack: I just seem to set light to things since someone puts a camera on me building something [2073.97] Jack: Up it goes on in smoke [2076.37] Richard: And then they start making gifts on it like it happens. I was actually live on facebook [2082.69] Richard: Sitting over there. The guys were watching with me and I was like, all right, finally built it [2086.53] Richard: Let's go and I plugged it in. It's right [2088.77] Richard: They said oh, it's gonna blow up and I was like, yeah, whatever plugged it in and it blew up [2093.01] Richard: If that's just part of what happens every day. I build quads every day [2097.17] Richard: You know, I built one today and I was like, okay, i've powered it. Okay, if it's good, it's in stages, right? [2101.33] Richard: Okay, i've got to arm it now. Let's hope it doesn't freak out. We've got the props on the right way [2105.17] Richard: The motor's going the right way [2107.01] Tony: It's just part of it. Even that's stressful, isn't it? [2109.89] Richard: Yeah, you just have a brain fart and you'll forget something and you'll be outside, right? [2113.41] Richard: Let's go pull it and rip itself apart because you forgot to turn one motor going the right way [2118.05] Richard: So, you know, it's totally natural for us to smash these things up and no one should be afraid of that or even [2123.33] Richard: Deny it because it's going to happen to everyone. It is going to happen to everyone [2126.61] Tony: So rich you mentioned earlier that you were waiting outside [2131.07] Tony: quadcopters.co.uk for your [2134.85] Tony: Drone so you weren't working there at time because you weren't there now, don't you? Yeah. Yeah. No, I wasn't there [2139.09] Richard: No, um, I was I was just talking about it. I didn't even have the machine the phantom one and I was just like [2145.25] Richard: I've got nothing to do i'm sitting here exciting. Let's talk about it [2148.45] Richard: So that's all I could do until I got it and then when they said yeah [2151.41] Richard: The shipment's just arrived in the uk now we're waiting for it to be delivered and I was like [2155.09] Richard: Well, i'm gonna there's the shipment. There's me. There's your house [2158.77] Richard: I'm gonna go there and got there and I was like, right give it here [2161.25] Richard: I'm not waiting till tomorrow next day delivery. I want it now. So yeah [2166.21] Tony: How did you get the job through for them guys they just that's the he's enthusiastic let's employ him [2172.77] Richard: I guess so something like that. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I was always up there then for for extras [2176.53] Richard: Oh, I need a baccio. I'll need some props or they would have something in, you know [2179.73] Richard: A video transmitter when I wanted to start doing fpv and things like that [2183.49] Richard: So they although the parts I just thought well, I know these guys now i'm just going to keep going to them [2187.49] Richard: And it just kind of went on from there and then they were like, well, we're getting busy [2191.01] Richard: We need some help and you know what you're talking about. So [2193.65] Richard: Come and help us and that's how well that's how it all began [2197.41] Tony: So you so you're in another job full-time and then you just went with them full-time or did you start off? [2204.13] Richard: because um, it was during the time when I was [2207.49] Richard: Coming in and out of hospital because I had the motorbike crash [2209.81] Richard: Uh, so I I couldn't actually go to work or anything because my normal work meant I had to be on my feet all the time [2215.65] Richard: Well, if you're quad building you can sit down [2217.89] Richard: And so yeah, that's how that's I've just rolled into that instead and you're still there now [2222.85] Tony: Yeah, yeah. Yeah, haven't it cool. Cool. Jack. Have you still got your hat on? No, I'll put it back on [2228.69] Jack: Why? [2231.41] Jack: Anymore, I just like wearing the hat [2233.97] Tony: Yeah, you know that symbol there is the um [2237.49] Tony: symbol for [2238.85] Tony: flat earth, don't you from the [2240.93] Tony: government [2241.97] Jack: I remember your first flip on a 350 qx quad loll tricky tube [2248.05] Richard: Yeah, I remember that I was very nervous as well because um, it was a brand new quad [2253.09] Richard: The uh, I was funny enough. I was looking at one of them today. We've got one up on the wall [2257.09] Richard: um [2257.73] Richard: And it's such an amazing flying machine [2259.97] Richard: It would flip really quick and uh, yeah that I remember doing them and then trying flipping it in fpv and things [2265.89] Richard: They were my first line of sight flips as well using that machine [2269.01] Richard: Which was you know about the same size as a phantom as a 350 size [2272.53] Jack: Uh machine that is crazy, man. I um, I I'll show you what i've been i've been working on. Hang on. I've uh [2280.85] Jack: Gone back to back to my roots if you guys carry on [2284.77] Tony: 450 stuff. All right, rick. I remember watching your [2289.63] Tony: 1600 foot which is one mile no 1600 meter one mile flight with your tbs discovery [2296.61] Tony: We used a 2.4 gig for video [2301.73] Tony: This thing's massive. Now. Look at that. That is messy 450, isn't it? [2306.53] Tony: That looks big. What size is that? [2309.25] Jack: I have no idea and that means getting the ruler [2312.85] Jack: it is roughly [2315.01] Jack: 30 by that bolt and [2318.69] Jack: Another 21 millimeters. Yeah [2322.69] Jack: Um, so yeah [2324.77] Jack: Oh [2326.05] Jack: Yeah, don't worry. Um, yeah, I sweeten eight inch props [2330.13] Jack: and [2330.77] Jack: um [2331.81] Jack: It's running. Uh [2333.65] Jack: Inav because i'm getting a little bit bored of mini quads [2339.01] Richard: Well, all of this goes in phases and I can see it happening. Uh, it's just like fashion [2343.57] Richard: You know one thing comes in another thing goes and it comes back in again [2346.61] Richard: It's going to happen with the the quads and stuff, you know, people are going back to wings and things and uh, including myself now [2351.81] Richard: you know i've got [2352.77] Richard: Uh two two wings and a big set. Um, yeah, what what have you got back there? [2358.37] Jack: Also, are you still flying for taba you animal? Yeah. Yeah, of course [2363.25] Richard: For taba all day every day nothing [2366.37] Richard: This past forever [2368.45] Richard: That's it. Yeah, I had to go [2371.01] Richard: I was like, what is this? This is horrible [2373.41] Richard: Yeah, plain wise. Uh, there's a tbs copy down there that I got the phone for free [2378.37] Richard: So that's the only reason i'm using tbs [2381.09] Tony: And what's your launch of that? It's very very good. It's good, wasn't it? [2385.09] Richard: perfect launch [2386.93] Jack: Straight into I can believe you if i was there I would have rugby tackled you bad lego and all [2392.37] Jack: I just turned around at the camera like did that just happen? [2395.33] Jack: I know [2397.33] Jack: I didn't give up [2399.01] Jack: meanwhile electronics [2402.77] Jack: Yeah, it doesn't work that doesn't well one time tbs got it right. I've just got into wings [2408.29] Tony: I've always always wanted to fly since I was a kid. I always wanted to fly. I never thought I could ever fly [2414.05] Tony: Then like dji come out and I was like, oh, this is so good. It almost flies itself. I can do this [2420.37] Tony: And now I like flew started flying an acro. I [2425.09] Tony: Started flying a mini quad. I got someone to build me one [2428.21] Tony: I like was nearly gave up so many times [2431.41] Tony: And then got the hang of it with stabilise ace mode and then I got chatting to metal danny and he said go into the middle of [2437.01] Tony: A field sit there go on acro [2439.33] Tony: You'll love it when you get it and I like got through about 10 15 batteries and then loved it [2444.05] Tony: And now like i'm on the same like i'm flying a wing now [2447.57] Tony: uh [2449.01] Tony: wing [2450.53] Tony: Gabe robinson. He's like 16 year old kid. He's really good at flying works [2456.13] Tony: All in flying and then I bought a tbs cafe because one of my mates did because it can hold a gopro for the footage as well [2464.37] Tony: But i've got mine on a 2s setup [2467.09] Tony: 5000 milliamp 2s set up. Okay. Yeah, mine's on 3s [2470.85] Tony: It's just it's so light like I can fly like five mile an hour. Yeah, it's ridiculous [2476.29] Richard: Apparently, it's not very good flying. Uh wing, uh, especially not for a beginner anyway [2481.73] Richard: No, apparently not. Yeah. Well, i've just glued the front bit back on yesterday [2487.25] Richard: Destroyed it. Um, but you know this this thing I don't know if it's just me [2491.73] Richard: Uh, it just stalls all the time and there's no getting out of it [2495.49] Jack: Really? [2498.29] Richard: Shape of the foil [2499.57] Richard: I think it's also because i'm used to flying mini quads [2501.57] Richard: So I try and do a flip or a roll like a mini quad. I need to do it differently. Yeah [2507.41] Jack: Yeah, also if you hang around with people who do fly fixed wing [2511.81] Jack: they [2512.93] Jack: rip [2513.97] Jack: The granny out of you [2515.33] Jack: They're just like you guys just dance on the throttle because we're like that all the time up down up down up down [2521.25] Jack: And they're like look there's three modes to a throttle [2525.17] Jack: Deepened out full out full out and then three quarters and mid nothing else [2531.73] Jack: It's just those you might as well get [2534.45] Jack: A sewing machine foot pedal as your throttle because it's just on or off and that's apparently that's how you fly [2541.33] Tony: Like it or not, but uh, I really enjoy my wing. But what I like is the [2546.05] Tony: Minutes flying. Yeah, the 20 minutes of sitting there [2549.71] Tony: exploring like [2551.09] Tony: But you know with a mini quad you're two minutes full whack round a track down [2557.01] Tony: Yeah, change battery like now i'm out 15 minutes out one way 15 minutes back [2563.09] Tony: I'm really really really enjoying it, but i'm really enjoying it when it's a proper calm day [2568.37] Tony: Like no wind whatsoever. Well, you know them days when you just get it and it's just nothing [2573.49] Richard: well, we planned a big a big trip and we got a whole bunch of us and we went up to [2578.05] Richard: Ribble viaduct we thought yeah, we're gonna fly up there and we got there. We were like we can't even see it [2583.57] Richard: um [2584.61] Richard: We didn't think we were in the right place to be honest [2587.09] Richard: eventually all the fog cleared and this massive viaduct appeared next door was like [2591.81] Richard: fbb heaven, you know for the for these quad planes and then all the other lads are like [2596.45] Richard: No, that's still a bit misty. I was like get this thing in the air 5.8 [2599.97] Richard: For the video just get it going and and and I was the only one that flew that day. It was really it was really good [2605.25] Richard: I only risked the um, the the capi, uh, i've got an x6 there. I didn't really want to risk that [2610.77] Richard: It's a totally different experience. Uh flying the the planes, um, and i'm glad that i've decided to do it [2617.25] Richard: I was really worried about it because of flight controllers and things and things that i'm not um used to you know [2622.93] Richard: i'm used to like nazas and [2624.93] Richard: um, you know flight controllers for quads and i was like how the planes work and i was too scared to to do it and now i've [2630.61] Jack: I've actually had to go. It's actually really easy. I um, because i'm [2635.09] Jack: Have you got a flight a flight controller in your capi then not in the capi? [2639.09] Richard: No, that's just you know, the radio straight to this kind of thing. But in the x6 there is a flight controller [2645.09] Richard: um, you know for for return to home and and and for um, [2649.49] Richard: I can't remember what it's called now where it levels itself basically in the air [2652.93] Richard: So you don't have to stay on the sticks and stuff. Yeah, i'll put 1.2, uh video on it now [2656.85] Richard: So i should be able to get some decent range out of the x6 [2660.05] Richard: The plan is to launch, you know where that that video you were talking about with the tbs where i fly the tbs across the the marshland [2666.77] Richard: So that's that's that's england basically and right across all that marshland [2670.85] Richard: There's a river and things and then it's north wales [2672.77] Richard: So technically i'd be flying from from one country to another so i was thinking of doing that [2677.33] Tony: That would be good [2680.77] Tony: I'd definitely enjoy watching that because i'm just starting to get into long long distance stuff now [2687.01] Tony: and i was thinking about buying the [2689.41] Tony: Tbs stuff, but it's all so bloody dear [2692.37] Jack: you need to [2694.29] Tony: When when jack says oh look we can get a four watt [2698.05] Tony: Thing off by you by where you can you know, don't tell people about that [2702.29] Tony: I know we're we're experimenting [2704.61] Jack: It's not gonna work. That's us. Look there's two reasons why i've built the the [2711.15] Jack: Ghetto copter, um, it's from a [2715.01] Jack: This um a flight test electro hub [2718.13] Jack: Which is the only thing I can say is that it is a good it's got a good power distribution board [2724.61] Jack: I don't know whether anyone remembers these hang on i've got one and I hate them [2731.09] Jack: Hang on hang on. Hang on [2733.25] Jack: Yeah, the abuse mark [2735.65] Jack: power distribution boards for a [2738.91] Jack: These are [2741.87] Jack: Oh my word i'm gonna nail one to a plane [2746.27] Jack: And fly it and then switch off the transmitter and let it just crash into wales [2751.87] Jack: And let them and then all note it will just say [2755.55] Jack: I don't know. It'll just say like I love trump. Please set fire to me or something. I don't know [2761.23] Jack: like I just [2765.15] Tony: How much that's changed in what six months from that to what we've got [2769.15] Jack: Thought that was a good idea [2772.43] Jack: I just honestly [2775.23] Jack: Um, yeah, but you bought one. I bought one. I think I think someone gave it to me. Um, anyway, so yeah the inav as well [2782.67] Jack: Uh, there's i've been watching a series. I can't remember the guy's name [2787.07] Jack: But I can I can google it if anyone wants it and i'll mention it next week's show [2791.31] Jack: but there's this guy and [2793.31] Jack: Uh with inav it gives you the ability to set way points [2797.15] Jack: And you can use them in a wing [2799.95] Jack: As well, so you get the stealth stabilizing you've got gps hold [2805.87] Jack: Where it kind of stays in its same position and you've got return to home and you've also can use a mission planner for um [2813.71] Tony: Taking your way points the enjoyment out of flying though, doesn't it? [2817.23] Tony: I mean, I like the fact that you could fly miles and then you can you can return to home but [2823.87] Tony: I like the fun out of it. No, not necessarily [2828.99] Jack: Yeah, like admittedly you'd still fly it on rate mode all the time and everything but [2834.67] Jack: it's [2835.79] Jack: you know, it's it's it's nice to have those features and use the self stabilization mode because [2842.91] Jack: I don't know whether any of you guys have ever watched you remember old flight tests [2846.67] Jack: There's there's a flight test gremlin and they fly out in a storm [2851.47] Jack: I haven't seen that one. You haven't [2854.03] Jack: Look for it, man. It's um [2856.75] Jack: What is it a flight test? I haven't seen it. Yeah, check it out flight test gremlins the channel [2861.07] Jack: It's their little hidden channel for ages and david and chad [2865.55] Jack: Kappa go out and they the two the secret thing that they love doing is flying in a storm [2871.79] Jack: And there's massive storm in a high over at the flight test house [2874.83] Jack: They launch and they've got like I think it is a wing. I can't remember. No [2879.71] Jack: Actually, it was a plane and they launch it and they say like they love like it's a bit of a challenge [2884.99] Jack: But that's self stabilizing [2887.31] Jack: You're able to use that to keep in the air for the storm. So that helps you [2892.67] Jack: you know and like the [2894.75] Jack: Yeah, you've got the the gps like uh waypoint and stuff, but that's that's a great thing for testing [2903.31] Jack: You know testing things like [2905.63] Jack: You know the edge of your range where you haven't got any more headroom left [2910.27] Jack: And it snows and you can't get it back flick it on return to home comes back to you [2916.35] Jack: And you're not looking for your plane [2918.35] Jack: Do you know what you mean? You don't have to use anything. You can just do you go straight to pass through [2922.19] Jack: Yes, and fly it normally [2924.27] Jack: but instead of like amping up your system and all that's fine, um [2930.19] Jack: you know with with [2932.03] Jack: You know like more milliwatt or you know bigger antennas and and up in your power and that you can [2938.99] Jack: Have it so that if you do get to the edge of the signal you can switch the return to home and position hold [2945.47] Jack: For people like you who need people [2948.67] Jack: like you tony [2950.35] Jack: Um who need people to launch and stuff? How awesome would it be to be able to launch brad launch? [2956.35] Jack: Uh get braddus to launch you you position hold so it flies around you [2961.79] Jack: above your head and then you launch bradders [2964.99] Jack: And then put your goggles on and then it's just handy stuff that you'll never [2969.79] Jack: Have to use isn't you know, it's not like you get in your car and you're like, well, i've got a sunroof [2975.07] Jack: I paid for this sunroof. I must use it [2978.11] Jack: All the snow starts coming in, you know [2982.19] Jack: You know, it's like it's there if you need it and it's quite fun [2986.51] Jack: Trying to get this stuff to work as well and it's all in development [2990.37] Tony: rich, what what what did you say you're going to use for 1.3 on video was that [2996.13] Richard: Yeah, so i'll just stay both from civella zone or surveil zone for the first time and it was the 1.2 video transmitter and a receiver [3004.13] Richard: Um, that's what all the lads that I fly with use [3006.69] Richard: Um, so more of a post link and they seem to be getting decent range with it [3010.13] Richard: Uh, so i've got it's uh 800 milliwatts as well [3013.57] Richard: And so I should be able to get quite a decent range just on the standard stock whips [3018.29] Richard: Um, they're using patches and all these funky kind of antennas as well, uh to increase the range [3023.81] Richard: um [3024.21] Richard: But I think for now the stock whips will do for me and i'll um [3027.97] Richard: I'll have a look around and maybe get a patch or something to go with it [3031.25] Tony: We were talking to ibc crazy and he was saying his [3034.69] Tony: Um [3035.89] Tony: Is it air screw is the best to have on a wing? [3038.77] Tony: But that is from 5.8. I suppose so I don't know what it'd be on 1.3 [3043.81] Jack: Isn't 1.3 a military channel in this country? [3048.69] Richard: I think I think it's called 1.3 [3050.69] Richard: But the it's actually it's it's it can go from lower than that [3054.29] Richard: So it's like 1080 and stuff and it can go up to 1.2 and into 1.3 [3058.61] Richard: So it depends I thought the military was more uh, 3.3, wasn't it? Or that might be the police helicopter. I can't remember [3066.45] Jack: Oh [3067.73] Jack: I'm not too sure. Um [3070.29] Jack: but [3072.61] Jack: I'm in a way basically I say things and then I wait for daniel upton to be like no [3077.73] Jack: You're an idiot and then he takes this [3081.17] Jack: So I could just say anything you like like yeah tone. Yeah, uh flat [3086.53] Jack: 15 minutes after the show [3090.77] Jack: Yes, it is it's not flat you mental head case and not everyone's a lizard people [3097.73] Jack: And you were killing and did not throw up green eggs in her drink [3103.33] Tony: What's that he's holding [3106.05] Richard: Uh, who was it someone asked? [3108.77] Richard: Something beast coke coke beast 1985. I stiff it's a big antenna. So that's the size of the antenna. Uh, and that's a [3116.13] Richard: 5.8 antenna next to it. So [3119.49] Jack: Almost twice the the length really almost it looks like a 5 dbi 2.4 [3125.89] Jack: Rip rip the plastic thing off the shrilled [3129.33] Jack: To see what's inside if you don't mind [3132.29] Jack: Unless you don't want to break it [3134.29] Tony: Don't break it rich [3137.57] Jack: Hang on look you can just [3142.21] Richard: See that's what's in 5.8. Okay. Um, yeah, I don't really want to do that on this [3147.57] Tony: He's he hasn't plugged it anywhere yet. I've been used it yet [3151.73] Jack: I'll break it soon enough. Don't worry. All right when you do let us know [3156.37] Jack: We need to know what's inside [3160.93] Jack: Have you ever flown a tricopter [3163.09] Richard: You know what? No, I haven't now [3167.89] Richard: I wanted to get one a long time ago in the early days when it was all kk2 boards and simon k [3173.33] Richard: simon k escs [3174.69] Richard: And you know [3175.49] Richard: It was all hobby king stuff get as much hobby king stuff as you can and make something and tricopters were something [3179.97] Richard: I did want to make but I never got around to there's nothing inside [3183.81] Jack: It's flat. Oh, no, you're not [3186.53] Jack: Matthew evans you're not hollow [3188.85] Tony: Ertha are you there is actually aliens what live underneath us? Oh, oh my god [3199.33] Tony: So are you going to the drone show are you flying or are you just [3203.81] Tony: Turning up. Are you saying hello? [3206.37] Richard: Yeah, i'll be going and i'll just look to my left and I look this is my conics [3210.53] Richard: Quad and this is how it's current state [3214.13] Richard: So you've got a [3216.13] Tony: Cut of hours to get that going then [3219.89] Jack: Yeah [3221.89] Jack: Wait, what music or that? Do hi hpi make hammers now? [3225.97] Jack: Is that what you're using? [3233.01] Tony: Yeah, so you've got the digital [3235.81] Tony: Okay [3236.85] Richard: You got a digital race and an animal race. Yeah. Yeah, so i've entered myself into both. Um [3242.37] Richard: Yeah, see what happens with that the problem i've got with the the conics at the moment [3246.77] Richard: Well, it's not the conics. It's my goggles. My goggles are 16. No, they're not they're four by three and the conics is 16 by nine [3252.77] Richard: So I get this weird wind [3255.33] Richard: And I need to get used to it, but i've got into a bit of musics and they're going to send me out a headset [3260.05] Richard: So i'm going to probably end up using that during the uh, the drone show digital race [3265.57] Tony: Cool cool. Cool. We hopefully see you there. I think it's quite a few people going this year [3270.69] Tony: Hopefully it'll be bigger than last year last year. It was big [3273.89] Richard: Yeah. Yeah [3274.37] Richard: well [3275.25] Richard: We're thinking of doing we've been offered, you know to get the stands and stuff and have a stand for ourselves [3280.21] Richard: I was offered a stand for myself and i was like, well what i'm gonna do is get there and wave at people [3285.73] Richard: What we're probably gonna do is get some big long uh, like max [3289.17] Richard: And we're gonna put all the props on the inside so we can pay man with some props and we can start some props out [3293.57] Richard: of our max and then just walk [3296.53] Jack: I like that. I look forward to seeing if I see you every time I bump into you you're gonna be like [3302.13] Jack: Can I have a signature? You're gonna have to find new and interesting things to sign [3307.49] Jack: Kk2 board, baby [3311.25] Tony: First you have to take that for a signature [3314.77] Tony: I know old [3319.09] Tony: Nationals [3320.77] Tony: What's up? [3321.89] Tony: I said i've got everyone's signature on the first ever nationals [3325.57] Jack: Did ya? [3326.77] Tony: Yeah [3327.73] Tony: But everyone jabs rich [3330.53] Tony: Luke's that's crazy. I don't think darry was there. I know i raced um [3335.33] Tony: Yeah, lad [3339.25] Richard: Yeah, he was he's he was like that i've still got my quad front from the nationals last year [3345.81] Richard: Which is it? [3347.33] Jack: So you didn't sell all of them. Did you you liar? [3350.37] Richard: B [3351.65] Richard: It is a b. Yeah a bird's eye b [3353.89] Richard: Six inch it's actually huge looking at it now. And I remember going there's no room in this to put a video transmitter and things [3360.69] Jack: Yeah, oh my work those i've got my [3364.53] Tony: I threw the gravity 280 which was six inch props as well and I was free. Yes [3370.21] Richard: No way [3372.21] Richard: I was on [3374.61] Tony: So I was like how things how things change in like a year what in this hobby it changes every bloody [3384.05] Richard: Yeah [3388.05] Richard: That's a point yeah [3392.05] Richard: All this angled motor mounts, you know t motor navigators [3398.21] Tony: I'll put them on my qav 250 [3401.17] Richard: The screws aren't even big enough. It's like do they really fly this thing? [3404.85] Jack: Like how did it fly surely? [3407.17] Jack: That's probably how you hurt your leg booting that across the finish line [3411.17] Richard: Oh, yeah, bl heli dysbl heli. Yes. He's boom 20 out. Oh, mate [3418.13] Tony: n20 [3423.25] Jack: Mate i've got an sn20 sticker right next to the flatter sticker [3429.01] Jack: Yeah [3444.93] Jack: Right guys, thank you for listening and staying tuned [3449.01] Jack: To let drone out. We unfortunately we have run out of time [3453.49] Jack: Erwin said I want a big glider that he that vario summer project. I recommend a dlg. That's what I fancy [3460.61] Jack: Discus launch glider. Yep, small accords are getting quite popular nowadays [3465.41] Jack: uh [3466.53] Jack: One that is from red bottom e max motors. I mean if they push those to ridiculous eus through [3473.17] Jack: Through will should all go light on the grams [3476.77] Jack: I'll be king lol right now [3479.25] Jack: I've been running the wing with a ton of [3482.13] Jack: With an on-off switch on the throttle [3485.25] Jack: hpi [3486.37] Jack: never flew rc before [3490.4] Jack: um [3491.92] Jack: Let's see what else [3494.32] Jack: Uh, that's about it, man. You guys rock. Thank you crispy cargo [3499.28] Jack: Uh gmach fpv sn20s. They were the days [3502.72] Jack: They were the days. I've still got one of those cc3ds2 as well [3507.28] Jack: koki beast [3508.8] Jack: Triween nunchuck soldered to an arduino board with custom firmware.
