We are joined by it. None other than Adam Juniper. Hello [12.2] Jack: Alexander [13.8] Jack: That's me and you also work with Matthew if he's still here [20.88] Jack: Yep with running the race box. Is that right? That's right. Yeah, cool. We're doing why Frank or Andrew [29.04] Matthew (KQRC): Hello [30.52] Jack: J. Chipko. Yeah, hello [34.32] Jack: NJ Tech [35.68] Jack: Hello, you'll be right taking my spots and of course everyone's lovable window washer [44.28] Tony: Lazy my genius [48.48] Jack: Thank you and enjoy tonight's show [53.32] Tony: Such a busy house we've got in tonight, I mean [58.92] Adam: Several of us could easily duck out for a bit have a little sleep if need be [66.8] Adam: It's been it's been my first day back at the office for a week it's been you know tiring [72.36] Jae: So did you get to fly a new toy? [80.16] Adam: Here I was last week the shirt the thing came you saw you know the box come behind me [85.0] Adam: I then got up the next morning flew to Greece [87.68] Adam: I came back yesterday last night and went straight to the office in the morning [92.76] Adam: I've got it as far as getting it halfway out of the box [95.84] Adam: That's it. No, that's look awesome though [99.72] Adam: I did I did have a mavic with me in Greece though, which was fun. No, that's right. At least you took something [106.64] Jae: So when I haven't been too bad this week, so I've actually got out and flown a couple of times [110.68] Jae: Something snowed snowed in Athens. Yeah, well we've got them here [115.16] Jae: You can use is all wrong, but yeah, no it's been quite a good flying week, but this week [119.6] Jae: We've got some special guests on other than NJ Tech. We've got Alex and Matthew on [124.72] Jae: so um [126.52] Jae: welcome guys [127.88] Matthew (KQRC): So Germany and are you based in there Matthew? I'm UK. I'm down in Kent [134.08] Jae: God right sweet. Yeah, so um Tony you've been playing with some boxes haven't you? [140.16] Jae: I [146.32] Tony: Have [151.96] Jae: What I found is because I mean we're as small little groups around us [155.4] Jae: We've been like wanting to get these little lap timers in but it's been quite a market that migrated from the cars [161.24] Jae: But there's some exciting new projects out and that that people may not have heard of and that's what I guess [166.64] Jae: They're here to have a chat about tonight [169.72] Tony: Just gonna chat about race box how it come about and everything like that [173.56] Tony: so if we could just hear you guys talk about it, so [178.92] Tony: Matthew and Alexandra would be cool if you could just chat for five minutes of how it all started [187.1] Jae: Well, how did you start? What was the inspiration behind Alex? What I mean, did you want to get your own times? [193.38] Jae: Or what was inspiration? Oh [195.5] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): My inspiration was to learn electronics in the beginning. It was about two years ago and [201.26] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): in the summer [203.34] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): 2015 I started with this infrared system. That's the open source system. You'll see a present. It's called an easy race at trauma [211.06] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): And lots of people were using it and in last January [214.58] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): I started to get interested in this VTX timing solutions and I investigated some time to get used to it [221.98] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): But first of all, I had to finish the infrared version. Hmm [226.86] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): VTX version. Yeah, I think it was about [230.1] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): June or so when this was [232.54] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Ready for the world. Yes, and that's the thing you know now as the pocket edition [237.7] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): It's this little thing or the waste box the one for eight pilots at once [244.94] Jae: Wow [246.94] Jae: But I mean, so there's an open a source of aspect you've got that people can sort of replicate it themselves [252.3] Jae: Or they've got and get or [255.26] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yes, the infrared version is completely open source everything [259.22] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): in this system the PCB boards [262.58] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Everything everything but the VTX version the hardware is not open source yet [268.14] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): But we still have plans to release it by the presence. We can't do just some legal restrictions. There's some other guys and [276.34] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah, and at present we have some competitions competitions on the market. I think you know it and you will see [284.7] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Who will be the winner in the end? Yeah [291.3] Matthew (KQRC): I think the thing for us that and you know work with the VTX system is you know [296.78] Matthew (KQRC): But I started racing at KQRC with you know, David Allen [300.82] Matthew (KQRC): Nick Jones kind of quite a few guys and we wanted to buy an iLAP system [305.34] Matthew (KQRC): Yeah, and we looked at the iLAP system and it was so expensive and you know, everyone's quite happy to spend [312.94] Matthew (KQRC): 400 to 800 quid on the drone, right you tell them that they got a buyer receiver for 25 quids [319.18] Matthew (KQRC): They don't want to buy it [322.86] Matthew (KQRC): So I kind of got online started looking at various other things [328.18] Matthew (KQRC): You know tapped up the road racing guys tried to speak to them [331.86] Matthew (KQRC): they're all on iLAPs and come across kind of like the open source stuff with the IR and [337.86] Matthew (KQRC): It was probably about a year or two ago now and I started messing around with the IR and I built kind of like this [343.74] Matthew (KQRC): It's awful system. It was just but it works. You know, he's using a [348.18] Matthew (KQRC): The first one I used was an MC node [350.06] Matthew (KQRC): I didn't even know how to prygram like a microchip or anything like that. And then kind of as it evolved, you know, the lads [358.7] Matthew (KQRC): No, one really wants to take responsibility for dealing with all the IR and no one really wanted to [364.26] Matthew (KQRC): To spend it and plus the IR modules we made work [367.34] Matthew (KQRC): They were huge, but they were cheap, but they were huge and I got a chat into a few guys online [372.78] Matthew (KQRC): And we made these kind of this guy said oh you can you can time your quads using your VTX [377.74] Matthew (KQRC): And we were like, okay [379.9] Matthew (KQRC): That sounds pretty cool [381.3] Matthew (KQRC): But you know, how's that gonna work? [383.18] Matthew (KQRC): And I I remember putting his post online and everyone's kind of like no, no, it's not gonna work [388.26] Matthew (KQRC): You know, this is this is never gonna happen and never be accurate enough [391.66] Matthew (KQRC): You're never gonna do it and you know, you kind of think I said, you know [395.46] Matthew (KQRC): you try and time all these people in if you want to you know, usually like as you go for it and [401.22] Matthew (KQRC): You know me and another guy Justin at work. We messed about with this guy called [405.3] Matthew (KQRC): I [406.82] Matthew (KQRC): Virgil Buzz Flyer [408.7] Matthew (KQRC): Originally who kind of helped make some bits and pieces and some bespoke stuff but in between all this [414.66] Matthew (KQRC): You know, I met Alexander from air birds who was the only guy at the time who was producing and selling like an open source [423.42] Matthew (KQRC): IR thing so we had this cross between the IR and the VTX and to be honest [427.82] Matthew (KQRC): I didn't really want to do too much with the lap timing system at KQRC [433.94] Matthew (KQRC): And then it kind of you know, I got wind again [438.14] Matthew (KQRC): Alexandra was you know making more bits of pieces and you know, we did a bit we chatted online and you know and your man [446.74] Matthew (KQRC): sent through this bad boy [450.18] Matthew (KQRC): Which I want to almost go as any of you can see this I want to go and get my knees [457.14] Matthew (KQRC): out of the loft [461.02] Matthew (KQRC): And the old control pad for it [463.26] Matthew (KQRC): No, I just kind of want to slot a game in there and it's cool. You know, it's good. I'm not plugging it [468.86] Matthew (KQRC): I might be plugging it a little bit and I was thinking, you know, is it gonna work? [474.14] Matthew (KQRC): That was the biggest thing because the stuff we've made online with people it works [478.46] Matthew (KQRC): Okay, but it didn't work as it should you know, there was errors in it and I won't go with this [485.74] Matthew (KQRC): And [486.74] Matthew (KQRC): what I found and [488.62] Matthew (KQRC): Alexandra probably better help me is you kind of can create a radius of where you are [494.42] Matthew (KQRC): so if your gate is a meter high you can set the box so it's kind of scanning this kind of radius area and [503.62] Matthew (KQRC): When it worked the first time and the second time and a third time and me and David Allen [510.02] Matthew (KQRC): Daniel Peters who crashed out in the UK drone show, you know, we was doing that it missed a few of Dan's [516.42] Matthew (KQRC): But I think Dan was on the wrong channel. He'll probably shoot me for saying that but it was definitely on the [523.1] Matthew (KQRC): And it just works and since then we've we've kind of [526.62] Matthew (KQRC): you know [527.98] Matthew (KQRC): Exana's kind of implemented this web interface where we can tap into it and you can have kqrc and you can have your club [535.22] Matthew (KQRC): You can have your pilots. So in terms of getting into the field and actually [540.02] Matthew (KQRC): Setting up. It's really cool. It's really quick [542.9] Matthew (KQRC): I think that's probably the best thing I liked about it [546.42] Matthew (KQRC): Which you could just kind of as long as everyone's on their right channels, Tony [553.66] Matthew (KQRC): People know their channels that they're on for one [560.02] Matthew (KQRC): You know, it's one of the things we can all build these quads right but no one can [565.14] Matthew (KQRC): No one seems to have the ability to to tune in a VTX channel, which I find bizarre sometimes [577.3] Matthew (KQRC): Absolutely, yeah. Yeah, Tony swears I was on 600 milliwatt [583.18] Tony: Have you seen my video? I did [586.82] Tony: Yeah, whose name scrolled across the screen? Hey, yeah, nobody [595.58] Jae: Well, I mean even if from the IR model the thing that I really like about the system is that [600.94] Jae: Hey, people can actually get it for without, you know spending whatever they've got to get an open source package [606.74] Jae: This for a while. I think there hasn't been anything that's equivalent to that [610.58] Jae: But secondly, I think going forward like the VTX is ultimately the thing that you don't have to attach is the transponder working and all [616.34] Jae: Those issues that come about from fixing something to be quite we eliminated and that's the promising thing for that [621.14] Jae: but I think all these lap time of systems have benefited so much now from [626.3] Jae: Moving to an open source package which we've had for our flight controllers for quite a while now and the whole ethos of our community [631.9] Jae: Is built around a lot of open source stuff? [634.58] Jae: So it's very refreshing to see it bleed out into other facets of our hobby, you know [639.42] Jae: I mean it's gone to our TX is it's gone to it goes everywhere that we start to develop. So [645.9] Matthew (KQRC): That's true. I mean, I think that's the I guess why I kind of enjoyed making it originally, you know [650.98] Matthew (KQRC): I learned to kind of program little, you know, micro controllers and you know, tiny little things [656.22] Matthew (KQRC): I think that's where I got the enjoyment and kind of you know [659.26] Matthew (KQRC): Involvement in building a little bits and pieces badly a bit badly, but you know enjoyed it [665.98] Jae: So Alex you wanted to get into electronic. She said [669.82] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yes [673.14] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yes, and no, I mean I'm learning things or other time and yeah, I started programming about [680.18] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): 17 years ago and I never had something to do with electronics or so [684.06] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): I mean, I know they're plus and minus yes, but that's it. And in the meanwhile [689.3] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah, I can decide PCBs and so on and I have here the really first version of the BTX [698.26] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): tracking system [702.42] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah, it's just a you see a blackboard [706.22] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah, but this was we were ready how I could solve this problem and [711.54] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah, I can show you something. This is a complete [715.7] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): You have a whole secret by the BTX time tracking system. It's a normal module with Justin and Teller and that's it [723.34] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): You're tracks only the SSI value. That's the basic thing behind it. Yeah [729.38] Jae: Yeah, I [730.78] Jae: Suppose you say the basic way but the one thing that I had the first thought when I heard of a solution like, you know [736.7] Jae: the BTX is [738.46] Jae: You have to have it presumably very high at highly directional for receiving [743.26] Jae: Antenna first clocking it through the gate because even you might have bleed forward from a VTX signal and to the point [748.42] Jae: I mean how how accurate have you found you could get the VTX to then do you know? [753.66] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yes [755.34] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): First of the things is and you have to do some filtering on the signal so that you know, okay. Okay now is really [763.38] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Invigate and the accuracy at present with our system is about [768.5] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): One millisecond to five milliseconds. It depends sometimes and in the new version in the version 2 we will release soon [778.54] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): We have less than one millisecond [781.32] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Wow [783.32] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah, there's lots of filtering and calculations [786.96] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): But I have to admit where the air system is always better when the VTX tracking system [792.6] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): It's the nature of it [794.08] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): I mean within the air system you have this line and if you cross the line it triggers and [799.68] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): We will be TX system. Yeah a bubble no matter what how big it is. It's a bubble in the line [806.04] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah, that's the difference [808.2] Jae: Wow, I'll be interested to see it [810.36] Jae: And give it some you know for the road test [813.04] Jae: I remember seeing your videos on YouTube quite a while ago. Actually Alex you're flying quite fast [817.8] Jae: Then do you get much time to fly and the test out you get it yourself? [822.04] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): and [823.48] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Sadly, I can't fly that much anymore [825.8] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): I mean I want to fly all the time and I'm pretty close a lot [829.0] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): But I don't fly them because there's no time for it because of this system. Yeah, and [834.92] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): But the plan for you this year is to fly much much more. Yeah [839.88] Jae: We're interesting your system like any lap timing system is a move for [844.92] Jae: More club events to move into a more of a recognized time structure that means they can go national and it can actually grow as a sport [852.2] Jae: Whereas it's quite limited at the moment for people to get into it from a club level much like the formula [856.36] Jae: You know the the motorsports you don't go in at the top end racing you work your way up through the lower end [861.32] Jae: But there's no facility for to do that without that timing because it's a timing based sport so [867.48] Jae: It's fascinating what flying is it's going to enable and how the flying will change from the system you've produced [872.68] Jae: So I don't think it's been in waste [875.0] Jae: to develop systems like this [878.48] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yes, race birds. We have a small racing [882.4] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): team with three pilots and they're practicing all the time with the system and with the system we could [888.92] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Check what you're doing wrong in [892.28] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Small curves and so on and so they could improve their flying skills a lot [896.48] Jae: Wow, I suppose. Yeah, what what time segments between gates and things you can have yeah [902.72] Tony: So can you fly upside down through the gate and will it still trigger it [909.12] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): The system doesn't know from which side you are coming from [912.28] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): So there has to be some spot loss or something like this and to check if the pilot is [919.04] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Going the right way [921.48] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah, I cannot say he's no flying backwards or something like this if they trigger [926.52] Matthew (KQRC): But it will trigger upside down because if you imagine kind of two balloons when them two balloons meet you imagine that a BTX [934.2] Matthew (KQRC): Signals when they cross that's when the trigger happens. Well [938.84] Matthew (KQRC): What I found is that you can within the program itself. You can set a delay so that [946.16] Matthew (KQRC): You know, unless you're you know, Gary or Luke and you're pulling eight second laps, you know [952.48] Matthew (KQRC): most of us are pulling I mean, you know tonestar you do about 35 but you know, it's [960.84] Matthew (KQRC): You can set it so that it won't register anything under 20 seconds [965.56] Matthew (KQRC): So, you know the quickest lap round there is 20 seconds you set that to 20 seconds [971.32] Matthew (KQRC): You know, it's not gonna get a false reading if you you know [974.24] Matthew (KQRC): You're coming back across a bit of the circuit and I think one of the things that obviously air birds have done is [979.6] Matthew (KQRC): The the software the back end of it is quite clever with now the actual unit itself [985.68] Matthew (KQRC): you know [986.28] Matthew (KQRC): it's it's items and they work but the software on the back ends doing quite a bit and you know, [991.84] Matthew (KQRC): that's what I was most impressed with and [994.64] Matthew (KQRC): You know that it seems to it seems to work really well [998.88] Adam: Good good. I want to come back about your lap speed [1004.85] Tony: He just knows I'm faster he's just trying to get a dig in [1011.77] Frank: I [1014.53] Frank: With the because you're using a VRX and then just taking the RSSI out of that [1022.29] Frank: German of the video strength from the ATX [1026.41] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yes, that's what [1028.77] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): That's the first step yet [1032.29] Frank: Yeah, but do you because do you cuz the the VRX is like demodulating and finding the [1038.97] Frank: The the the start of a frame and all this kind of stuff [1044.49] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Hey [1046.53] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Well, it doesn't know where the frame starts and so on but [1051.93] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): It won't [1053.37] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah, it's not it's not an issue because the system will trigger for each court at the same [1060.01] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Place, I mean and they have a wound [1064.05] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Racing track and even if the system will trigger for one quarter one meter away of a [1070.41] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): starting finish gate it will trigger at the same place in the next round and [1075.89] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): So for our people it's telling the same leptans [1080.17] Frank: Yeah. Yeah. I was just thinking that could there be another version of this because [1086.81] Frank: The VRX, you know if you are just using a VRX and and it's doing [1093.05] Frank: Stuff like it's doing what it would usually do to produce a video signal [1097.69] Frank: But you don't need any of it. You don't need it to do any of that to give you a an RSSI signal [1104.97] Frank: No [1107.21] Frank: Is there any way that you could just [1110.89] Frank: the future some [1113.13] Frank: dedicated it's just it's [1115.97] Frank: The RSSI and not not putting out any [1119.73] Frank: Any of the work that is involved with that? Do you know? I [1125.26] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Don't understand the question correctly [1127.7] Tony: Nor do I because you were breaking up a little bit there as well [1132.3] Frank: I'll type it in the chat and get someone else to read it out then [1138.5] Frank: Thanks [1140.5] Jae: So like you've obviously like tinkering with the you know version one version two [1145.58] Jae: Is there anything in the pipeline after this then now that you've got to the point where? [1149.54] Jae: You're back to flying Alex. Is there any other exciting projects you're thinking about or working on that? [1156.82] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah [1158.42] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah, there are lots of projects. I mean we are creating motors at present. Well, they're present [1164.34] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): they're doing an example for about one year and you have to do a lot of research on it and [1171.38] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): yeah, they have some prototypes in our office now and the first pilots are testing them at present and [1177.62] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Then we will release them and everything is done in Germany [1181.62] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): I mean if they signed them in Germany, and we are something them in Germany. No, China [1186.86] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): That's important for us [1189.86] Jae: Motors weren't they German hacker. I can't remember actually come back [1198.18] Jae: Well, they yeah [1201.14] Jae: Well, I mean go back to the helicopter days. Yeah. Yeah. Well, it's back in my start of my fixed wing days [1206.78] Jae: Yeah [1208.1] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah, and we also have these [1211.34] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): yeah, this [1214.02] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Platform called a PV store [1216.18] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): FPV spots that I owe and it's this race management software and it's also open for everyone. It costs. Nothing you can use it and [1225.62] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Many different companies and organizations at present are using the software and they're also using the API of a software [1232.9] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): this means [1234.74] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Although the hot air may not be of the source of all the systems, but we are trying to make everything [1240.5] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): else to be open as possible [1243.62] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): For example, anyone can use the waste box API to code their own [1249.62] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Time-tricking system or whatever the protocol is open [1254.86] Adam: Are you hoping that people will use but will buy your hardware? [1260.34] Jae: No, no, you can make the hardware. I've got the new one. Yeah [1264.9] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): But something will be to be implemented the software few days ago [1272.06] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Okay, that's your wife. I have to buy it from us. That's correct. Yeah. Good. Well [1277.5] Adam: Good you deserve something for your hard work [1282.54] Tony: Indeed what I like about it is [1285.46] Tony: Not having to prepare for a for a race like you happen to find a vibe [1289.94] Tony: Take your quarter part finding a five volt out and then it not registering when you fly through a gate [1297.62] Tony: sometimes [1299.62] Tony: As we're this will register every time [1303.06] Tony: Even if you're upside down or as slow as Matt Austin [1308.66] Jae: Wow, are you two friends or enemies these days? [1313.42] Tony: Right, he started [1316.34] Matthew (KQRC): Because he's got a slow car. That's all it is [1319.42] Matthew (KQRC): There's a whole lot to this [1321.74] Jae: It sounds like rather than NJ taking the place of Jack tonight. It sounds like you two [1327.34] Matthew (KQRC): Yeah [1328.7] Matthew (KQRC): No, we had we went for we went in China and youth fly in place over the last weekend and it was some [1335.94] Matthew (KQRC): video clashes that we were [1340.34] Jae: Bad news this week of a site [1343.82] Jae: In Cambridge, it's fabled. I mean there was there was many stories written about this place was called our RAF upward [1350.38] Jae: It was an abandoned RAF base [1352.74] Jae: But they left most of the buildings there sometimes you can fly through all sorts of things [1358.06] Adam: But they even [1361.66] Jae: Fly around tell me I mean you guys you guys can fix stuff up. You think we could get the tanks working [1367.82] Jae: We can actually you can turn the Torah around you can spin them right around [1372.34] Jae: I mean as a flying site [1374.02] Jae: It's FPV paradise as we call it because there's some buildings to go down these you know trees and there's all sorts of just interesting [1380.38] Jae: bits to fly around [1383.02] Jae: But sadly there's a lot of people that could also gain access to light fires and through a gas can [1386.86] Jae: You know cat aerosols on fires and things and letting the pigs out to get shot eventually [1392.3] Jae: So they've been decided to close it and ban it for anyone going on site. So it's a bit of a sad thing [1400.62] Jae: But [1401.94] Jae: It came I mean I'm quite I've only been there a couple of times and it sounds like they closed it down but [1408.74] Jae: There's no there are people that use the site for airsoft things. There's no reason why they probably wouldn't open it up [1414.5] Jae: And now I've got this dilemma [1415.74] Jae: I don't know who's on site there to say look if everyone pays 50 pounds for the next nine months before it's knocked down [1421.38] Jae: We just fly on the site. You know, they've just checked check ID or something. There's got to be a way to make it work [1426.9] Jae: From the landowner [1428.5] Jae: But sadly, it's it's one of the good sites around this area that's being closed down or not closed down but denied access [1437.54] Jae: Well, I don't think so, I mean there's farming on the site and everything there's there's different land ownership [1444.58] Jae: Aspects to it. I think they just left it in the mid-90s and left the tanks there presumably [1450.82] Jae: but [1452.26] Jae: Yeah, I think they got dropped in later, but [1455.62] Jae: It's a shame [1457.3] Jae: Let's do [1459.94] Jae: Rust in peace [1464.98] Jae: Yeah, I mean what it was it like over in Germany pretty if you got it's a much larger space Alex [1471.22] Jae: Presumably you've got some nice flying spots [1474.82] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Um here in saland there are not so many spots because everything is very on in one big place here [1481.86] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): um [1482.34] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): But where i'm living next to french and Luxembourg and yeah, we have some nice places here, of course and in um expa [1489.94] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): And maybe you heard of it. There was the first german fpv ways made by a ralph wends uh two years ago [1497.38] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): What was it called again? [1499.14] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Rolf vents [1501.46] Jae: Oh, I know ralph. Yeah, is he the guy who works in the garage? [1505.54] Matthew (KQRC): Rolf fence. Sorry. Yeah [1509.46] Matthew (KQRC): I see stuff but been posting stuff in a garage. Is that a guy? Yeah, that's him [1513.54] Matthew (KQRC): He's really funny. I saw a thing where he did something waiting for bits from bangard [1517.94] Tony: He was kind of screaming and all sorts. Yeah, he's quite funny. He's videos [1523.38] Jae: I did I wasn't sure if um [1524.9] Jae: They would have banned flying after one lender that andrla merkle's feet wore in front of her about a year ago [1532.26] Matthew (KQRC): So, uh, i've been talking about banning it did we uh, I saw a post this week about the front of an aircraft [1542.18] Matthew (KQRC): So and then i've seen some other posts kind of, you know nulling out this this kind of story [1547.94] Matthew (KQRC): What's what have you guys heard? [1551.22] Tony: I heard that it was a drone strike and then I heard [1554.98] Tony: It was actually a plane [1558.34] Tony: Hit I think they were towing it and it hit another plane or something. That's what I heard. So [1564.26] Tony: The lady looks from the [1566.66] Tony: damage to be a bird [1568.9] Jae: Or drone well, they said it could have been a structural thing because the actual uh radome or whatever it's called radome, uh was actually replaced [1576.5] Jae: four or five years ago in south, uh, south, uh, africa and they showed by a drum [1582.18] Jae: so [1583.06] Jae: Uh, they're saying it's not a drone though. It's either structural. It's something on the ground or it's a structural problem with it [1588.18] Jae: They crumpled in because if you're trying like at least 200 miles an hour on these things anyway [1592.98] Jae: If it has a weakness in its structural thing, but the important thing is [1596.42] Matthew (KQRC): It wasn't it wasn't again. Yeah [1599.38] Matthew (KQRC): Yeah, well at least it wasn't a plastic bag this time [1602.18] Matthew (KQRC): No [1605.62] Tony: Um, what have we got asked here? [1608.42] Tony: What is the [1609.94] Tony: Grand's signal port on the pocket edition for is it wide connection instead of bluetooth? [1617.46] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Um, yeah, okay [1620.42] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): You need your raspberry pi [1623.54] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): And your pocket edition and um the quote. Yeah, it's a card signal [1629.06] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): But there's also a seek [1631.78] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): And you connect it to one of the gpi opens you have to check the documentation. I can't remember the pin number [1639.22] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): But then you can get the vtx signal [1642.58] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): I mean the triggering to your raspberry pi and then the open source version of easy way to time up [1648.34] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Has a core of vtx time tracking solution [1654.9] Tony: Bsm web says I love the airbird system. It's been an amazing tool so much great data [1661.86] Tony: uh [1663.54] Tony: and erwin l asked what is the difference between the tbs systems and [1672.02] Tony: Between this and the tbs system [1675.06] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah [1676.9] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Okay, I have here the tbs system [1680.42] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): and [1681.86] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): There is no difference [1683.94] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): I mean if they're using [1685.54] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah, they're using the same technology. It's at this eye tracking also with their own algorithms to check [1691.54] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Um how the cord is flying by and so on. I think the main difference is the software [1696.98] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): um [1698.18] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): yeah, and [1700.18] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Honestly, I never checked out the tbs system [1702.82] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): But what I've heard is um, if you lost the connection to the tbs system via bluetooth, you're also losing the data [1709.7] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): and [1710.58] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): With our system you're not losing the data because everything is [1714.9] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): It gets calculated on the system and if you lose [1718.82] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): The bluetooth connection you can go back and read out the data. So you don't have to [1723.62] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Be in range of the bluetooth [1726.82] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): I think that's the difference [1728.58] Tony: Okay. Yeah, we saw that on our bsm webs video they done. We we could see [1735.46] Tony: We could see [1744.66] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Ah [1746.82] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): One last thing to add um [1749.7] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): I think the tbs system can track the conic system [1755.78] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): And yeah the version 2.1 of our firmware we can trade also all channels of the conic system [1761.78] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): It was tested last weekend in las vegas on the ces show and this was done by nike version from fab canada [1769.54] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): It tested out and it worked [1772.26] Tony: Matt's gonna have to be unmuted now [1774.5] UNKNOWN: Yeah [1775.86] Jae: Well, uh, why did someone meet them? [1778.66] Jae: So we've also got nj and the check of the call we've heard a couple of times [1782.34] Jae: And j have you uh flown through many gates and electric times? [1785.78] NJ: Would you like to set the safety lap? [1789.46] NJ: Yeah, set the safety lap the president for everyone else. I mean [1793.22] NJ: It sounds uh, yeah, I don't do it [1794.82] NJ: I don't do an awful lot of racing to be honest with you [1797.14] NJ: But I mean the thing that i've seen from what i've read [1800.9] NJ: plaguing other systems seems to be things like [1804.02] NJ: The variables like a quad passing very close to the gate and not actually going through the gate triggering certain systems [1810.66] NJ: I'm, not sure if this is more something that has been an issue for the ir based stuff [1815.46] NJ: um [1816.42] NJ: As opposed to this system. I guess a lot of it is probably going to be in [1820.9] NJ: The calibration as you say the quicker this can be set up the quicker it can be calibrated to the size of a particular gate etc [1828.42] NJ: I guess that's that's probably one of the the more important things [1832.1] NJ: I mean how how is that how is that actually done say if you set up a small gate and you want to calibrate that as your [1839.3] NJ: Uh, say your start finish point. How do you go about doing that and how quick is it to do? [1846.05] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah, um, I was uh tracking a tiny loop ways last weekend [1851.57] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): And i've tested the system with a tiny loop and it [1855.49] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah, it was just about about five minutes for me to set it up [1859.01] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): But honestly on this weekend, it took me about [1862.53] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah, nearly one hour because [1866.29] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): I've had so many different tiny loops and all of their vgx transmitters had different output range and it was always fluctuating [1875.73] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Um, but the system itself has some nice [1879.65] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): tricks to get uh, yeah to handle this situation [1883.65] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): And um, basically you only have to set a one value in the system and this is called the smart sense tolerance [1891.49] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): A smart sense is just an algorithm [1893.89] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): And for example, if you fly through a gate the system met us your highest at the side strength [1900.53] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): And it knows okay, this is your highest value. This means you was very close to the gate [1905.89] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): And then you can set a small tolerance for example, and this tolerance is the distance you can set for a gate [1913.33] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): For example, the tolerance of five is a gate of about 30 centimeters [1917.73] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): And that's the way you set up [1920.05] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah, the right of the [1921.73] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah, the width of the gate and so on [1923.97] NJ: And how much how much um [1927.65] NJ: How much of a variable is the actual [1930.85] NJ: Strength of the vtx as it's passing so we're the ones at 25 milliwatts or where the ones at a higher output [1937.65] NJ: How will that affect? [1939.41] NJ: The race if you've because quite often at races you get people well, I mean everyone should be on the same strength [1945.09] NJ: um, but we we hear instances of [1948.05] NJ: Of that of yeah people going through this people being cheeky and trying to get the advantage [1952.93] NJ: But I mean is there a way to account for that without it causing too much variation or causing problems with the calibration? [1963.41] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah, um, this issue should be handled by this smart and [1967.41] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Value this algorithm. Um [1969.41] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): But like I said before if someone is everyone is using 25 milliwatt [1973.81] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): But if someone is losing 20 200 milliwatt, for example [1977.57] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): The system will trigger [1979.81] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Far more away from the gate. That's that's for sure [1982.85] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): But on the next round it's shrinking at the same place [1986.37] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): So it won't make such a big difference [1989.09] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): That is for the first round, but then they are on par like the other ones [1993.81] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): really [1996.13] Tony: fpv canada says we [1998.77] Tony: Use airbirds timing exclusively for canada amazing product and it is better than anything on the market [2006.05] Jae: Try to test it then yeah [2009.01] Tony: um [2009.81] Tony: And not nalstrom also, I can't pronounce your name. Ask my pocket edition never saves the set vtx channel [2017.57] Tony: When you go off the settings page and back is this an app bug? [2024.44] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Um, that's something I can't [2026.84] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): answer now, but um [2032.84] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): well when you go to the [2035.0] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): I think he's talking about a mobile application. Yes, and then he's going [2039.96] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah, then he's going to the [2041.96] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): settings page [2043.4] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): um [2044.76] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): It's reading all the settings from the device [2048.52] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): I think this should be a bug. Um, yeah, just contact me via facebook or the email [2053.4] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): And I will resort this out to the sky. That's no problem [2056.28] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): I'm doing all the time to part of our facebook and skype and so on [2061.08] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): It's something i'm used to [2064.04] Tony: There you go [2065.96] Tony: cool [2067.32] Tony: so, um [2069.0] Tony: Everyone needs to be on 25 matthew [2071.7] Matthew (KQRC): absolutely [2074.84] Jae: The legal limit you can't have an input [2077.64] Matthew (KQRC): Yeah [2078.76] Matthew (KQRC): Yeah, I think most people are now on 25. I think it's it's got better since the [2084.76] Matthew (KQRC): Since the kylin fx ones come out with a little button. She's certainly got better [2089.32] Tony: Yeah [2090.68] Tony: um [2091.48] Tony: someone else has asked uh [2093.96] NJ: I think something that will also help is just uh trying to encourage people to buy at least one set [2099.88] NJ: Of left hand polarized antennas so that you can have [2103.16] NJ: Eight pilots four on left hand four on right hand. Um, and that makes that makes things a little cleaner still [2109.88] NJ: Um always tricky to try and get people to to do that though [2114.28] UNKNOWN: Um [2115.64] Matthew (KQRC): Yeah, it is tricky but um [2117.96] Matthew (KQRC): it's [2119.32] Matthew (KQRC): We you know, we've tried that quite a bit of kqrc [2121.88] Matthew (KQRC): We tried the whole left hand right hand. We separated out channels at 40 hertz [2126.12] Matthew (KQRC): We tried the raceband channels, but there's always some little uh, you know, there's always a rogue in there [2130.68] Matthew (KQRC): And it's not you know, they could be on the right channel, but [2133.4] Matthew (KQRC): Um, you know one of the guys at the club david allen [2136.28] Matthew (KQRC): He's got um, he's got kind of an rf scanner unit and you know, some signals are very clean [2141.8] Matthew (KQRC): And other signals are very you know, what we call dirty where the the kind of bottom of them is maybe [2147.72] Matthew (KQRC): You know spreading across two channels. I think that's once vtx are tidied up and someone just puts eight channels only on them [2155.64] Matthew (KQRC): It might start helping [2158.44] NJ: It's also got to do with the area as well because the area can have its own, you know, sort of sweet spots. Um [2165.16] NJ: That that certainly can play a part in it. We've we've [2168.36] NJ: Traveled around the different spots and found certain areas. Uh [2171.72] NJ: can be quite unfriendly to certain [2174.02] NJ: frequencies, so I guess that's something that that's always [2178.12] NJ: Worth checking with a scanner before you actually assign channels. Yeah that and whether [2183.56] NJ: Yes, of course. Yeah, the moisture density definitely, uh causes problems but more uniformly [2190.28] Tony: um, someone else has also said, uh something about um rfe explore vtx has changed their power [2197.56] Tony: And frequency as they warm up. Will this have an effect? [2203.56] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Well, yes, it would have an effect if you just do [2207.0] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): If you just measure the size strength of the algorithms, it won't have an effect because the purpose and so on [2214.12] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah, it won't have an effect when it does [2217.08] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Okay in the software [2219.4] Tony: Sorry, jai you zane [2221.16] Jae: Um, I was just going to say less than you know [2222.92] Jae: Like we shouldn't forget that we slam these things into hard objects [2226.76] Jae: And these electronics are never really designed to take these sort of impacts sometimes they get [2232.92] Tony: Yeah, you're right they do get abused and smashed up a bit they do [2238.68] Tony: Is there any other um, it's what they wanted [2242.2] Matthew (KQRC): Yeah [2243.56] Matthew (KQRC): So we do um with the airbirds now will it um i've seen kind of raceband 2 appearing which is [2250.12] Matthew (KQRC): lower down the channels [2252.04] Matthew (KQRC): well [2253.48] Matthew (KQRC): Would uh, would this system kind of work with raceband 2 or [2259.32] Matthew (KQRC): Is it a completely kind of new rx that you're going to need in the newer system? [2264.76] Matthew (KQRC): Have you come across raceband 2 yet? [2267.7] Matthew (KQRC): Alexander [2268.84] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): um [2269.96] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah in present the box you have [2273.16] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): it supports 40 channels [2275.48] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): And um, we are testing a present internal new firmware version and you can set any channel you want [2281.72] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): On the 5 gigahertz band [2283.88] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): All right [2285.0] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah, that's the firmware which of us was also using comics to test our system in Las Vegas [2291.0] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): So we know it works and will also work with low band and so on [2295.64] Matthew (KQRC): That's good. That's yeah, that was one of the things I think is going to be important because potentially with raceband 2 [2301.56] Matthew (KQRC): um [2302.76] Matthew (KQRC): You could end up with 16 pilots in the air [2305.88] Matthew (KQRC): You can have raceband 1 and 2 running and if you run it like your man says with left and right hand aerials throughout the group [2312.44] Matthew (KQRC): You might have to build a race tracker for 16 people rather than 8 [2316.76] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): And it's a raceband 2, uh, waistband plus this low band [2321.32] Matthew (KQRC): It's a lower band. Yeah [2323.64] Matthew (KQRC): Okay, it's uh, i'm not sure where it sits. I think it's five six five something [2330.29] Jae: When did you hear about it then? [2332.45] Matthew (KQRC): Matthew I um [2334.61] Matthew (KQRC): I'm kind of friends with the guy ollie peters who everyone calls saggy none [2339.41] Matthew (KQRC): um [2342.21] Matthew (KQRC): It was a bizarre name it's a bizarre name, but he's uh, you know, he's a really cool [2345.73] Adam: And any backstory on that? [2347.73] Matthew (KQRC): I i'm hoping he's listening and actually he's going to kind of come up and tell us why he is called saggy none [2355.01] Matthew (KQRC): You know, that's less expensive if you tell us but um, the ollie peters was stringing [2360.77] Matthew (KQRC): Um a btx that he got for banggood and he could run his btx while everyone else [2366.77] Matthew (KQRC): Oh, he's quite selfish. So he wants to race while everyone else is practicing. So, um [2371.65] Matthew (KQRC): You know if he's on a frequency that's kind of all the way down the bottom end and doesn't it feel with one to eight [2376.53] Matthew (KQRC): Or raceband, you know, he was up and flying as well. So that's how I [2380.53] Matthew (KQRC): Come about it just through a bit like everything you see someone with it and you you know, even though you don't need it [2385.89] Matthew (KQRC): You you kind of want one [2388.45] Matthew (KQRC): Yeah [2390.61] Tony: Um, there's another question come in where is the best place to put the vrx timer with respect to the gate [2396.61] Tony: to get the most precise [2398.61] Tony: uh time [2402.95] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): In the middle of a gate. Yeah palm and middle I would think [2407.91] Tony: Okay, so we can crash into that bit [2411.51] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Uh, well on our event, um, I made a small hole [2415.19] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): uh [2416.39] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): On the chair there and put the box in it [2419.03] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): And it worked very well, but even if you place it next to the gate, it's not that [2424.55] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): That much uh better [2426.71] Tony: If you go next to it or or in the middle is best [2433.08] Tony: Excuse me [2434.28] Tony: So the mid the middle of the gate is the best place to put it really? Yeah [2438.76] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Okay, but but you can also place it next to the gate won't make much a big difference [2445.8] Tony: Okay, cool [2449.67] Tony: Have we got any more questions anyone else any got any questions? [2454.15] Jae: Yeah, if they are they I mean they can find us on the youtube page and uh chat to there if they've got any questions [2460.15] Jae: so, um [2461.51] Jae: There is someone who's been building so many different little quads these days who hasn't been on the show for a little while [2466.07] Jae: I think and his name is nj tech. I think when you first came on this show you had about [2470.37] Jae: 3,000 subscribers and you've copped another thousand now. So think we're looking up for you. Mr [2474.87] NJ: Nj tech yeah, it's slowly getting there. Um [2478.71] NJ: As things are kind of expanding on the channel. It's uh, i've just got more and more things to try and cover so [2485.35] NJ: Uh time time is is somewhat of a premium [2488.79] NJ: but uh [2489.75] NJ: Yeah, i've certainly started to look more at the micro stuff and that's really just down the fact that the weather's so [2495.11] NJ: Damn awful in the uk at the minute [2497.27] NJ: And uh rather than going out and getting cold hands. It'd be nice to be able to fly some some nice micro stuff and [2504.23] NJ: When i'm building at the minute it's kind of that 90 size like the the real [2509.51] NJ: tiny [2510.63] NJ: brush setups, um [2512.39] NJ: one of those in in brushless form [2515.11] NJ: um running little 10 000 kv motors on a on a on a 2s and so uh [2521.91] NJ: Yeah, it should be uh should should be interesting to see just that just how well these things can perform down at the the really [2528.55] NJ: the really tiny level [2530.07] NJ: And brushless is obviously great because you don't get that sort of motor fade that you get with the brushed ones when you start abusing them [2536.31] Jae: Exactly. Well even just for a long one [2538.15] Jae: I mean we did a go truck car track for a little while and going around the track quite a few times [2543.51] Jae: You know half an hour if you're going battery after battery, they do start sagging and [2548.39] Jae: I've got to give them more money [2550.55] NJ: Yeah, they they do. I think you know, it's the brushed motor technology has as it's [2556.95] NJ: Pretty close to being at its most mature. I can't see that [2561.35] NJ: Really getting much better. But obviously it's it's quite cheap to produce which is why you get lots and lots of these these quads [2567.75] NJ: sort of appearing every week, um [2570.71] NJ: But you know making these tiny brushless components there [2575.51] NJ: I mean up when I actually received the pack of these tiny little I think they're 11 03 [2580.21] NJ: 10 000 kv brushless motors. They are literally [2583.59] NJ: half the size of your thumbnail [2586.63] NJ: Which is which is incredible really that they're they're actually managing to produce these things so small [2592.47] NJ: And I suppose yeah, it'd be interesting [2594.95] Jae: For the u.s market that's complete no registration or anything, isn't it? Yeah [2599.67] Jae: Yeah, I believe so quite powerful. So i'd be interesting to see that when you uh, yeah [2606.55] NJ: Yeah, so it's that and the um, the other one, of course, which I still have to follow up on was this dietone [2612.71] NJ: gt2 which again i'm really quite stunned by how good some of the rtf's are getting because [2619.43] NJ: As you know for those of us who've been in [2621.91] NJ: Doing this for a fairly decent amount of time now [2624.71] NJ: We've we've kind of grown with that all the various technologies, but for someone who's just getting into it [2630.71] NJ: It's so easy to forget there's there's kind of an overwhelming amount of information that you have to learn [2635.91] NJ: um [2636.79] NJ: You know in terms of of what everything does and you know how to [2640.79] NJ: To what you know, they're just terminology that we're so used to to someone who's just getting into it and I get this [2645.51] NJ: You know just the other day are two people [2647.91] NJ: Sort of local to me that we're asking about getting into it and you start to explain to them [2652.71] NJ: What everything does and you know, it's it's an it's an hour's chat just to try and explain everything [2658.79] NJ: Um, so the rtf's that are getting [2662.23] NJ: Better is that's a real good thing. You know, I think everyone assumes that most rtf's are generally [2668.95] NJ: Fairly terrible and you know [2670.71] NJ: A lot of us try to encourage sort of custom building from the start by your frame [2674.71] NJ: Choose a good set of motors good set of escs, etc [2677.91] NJ: Um, but this dietone gt2. I was I was genuinely shocked at [2683.43] NJ: the quality of the components [2685.51] NJ: Um, you know the freight the frame is absolutely brilliant [2688.87] NJ: I've got a lot of uh good things to say about that and i've [2692.23] NJ: I've done some good crash testing with it as you've seen in some of my videos and it's uh [2696.95] NJ: Yeah, there's just good. There's good thought that's gone into the design. Um, and that's as long as that's happening then [2703.75] NJ: I'm happy as long as people are innovating and coming up with with fresh solutions rather than just you know [2709.19] NJ: And we see this a lot just copying [2711.59] NJ: Current ideas or ripping off frame ideas and just putting it out for the sake of trying to make a quick butt [2717.43] NJ: dietone have actually done something quite good here and come up with some really nice ideas and solutions to make a [2723.75] NJ: A really great little rtf something that you know as a custom builder. I wouldn't otherwise have bothered with [2730.55] NJ: um [2731.67] NJ: If it hadn't been handed to me and I had a chance to try I I can now actually recommend this to even seasoned pilots [2738.71] Jae: So, um, yeah, it's it's all I mean, there's only one quadcopter that I could ever recommend the product brochure [2745.75] Jae: To get a laugh from and that is for the gt2 [2749.03] Jae: um [2751.35] Jae: I mean, it's a highly polished, uh [2753.83] Jae: You know blurb it says about all the design things they've done and have to have to think outside the box and rebuild it [2758.55] Jae: From the ground up and that's all fine [2760.47] Jae: But just some of the comments they left in there because it got lost in translation for what was marketing material and perhaps what was design notes [2767.27] Jae: Such as it's such a pity that we left with the titanium screws out and you steal ones [2772.15] Jae: And it's like it's about a pity you've chosen that and it's a marketing stuff. I have never laughed so hard [2778.95] NJ: I think there's one guy that could literally mop up and just go around to all of these companies rewriting [2784.71] NJ: All the marketing materials to make sense and the instruction [2790.63] NJ: Some of the hard it is to write that stuff though [2794.15] NJ: Like what to actually write i've written technical manuals for uh products outside of uh [2801.19] NJ: Outside well in in a different industry [2803.99] NJ: um, so yeah, I do I do appreciate how how tricky it is to do but um [2808.55] Adam: The worst thing I have to do is write the back cover of books [2811.59] Adam: You know the bit that's meant to capture you in a couple of paragraphs and make sure to buy it [2815.67] Adam: But when you oh my god [2817.27] Jae: Physics like the one of their points was that they can focus the gravity around this thing and yes [2826.79] Jae: Yeah, no, it looks like a promising machine and from your flight test it looks uh, like it flies very well actually [2833.43] NJ: Now it's on it, wasn't it? The motors were made in [2837.57] NJ: Collaborate wealth, you know, I use the term collaboration loosely [2840.39] NJ: They may have just turned around sunny sky and said make some motors and put hard branding on it [2844.31] NJ: Um, but you know rebranding motors is no new thing [2847.59] NJ: Is it you know tiger motor did it years and years and years ago for various different companies and? [2852.87] NJ: I think they were who is it that they would do it? [2854.95] NJ: Was it for luminaire until they got their own they've got their own factory now luminaire, I think but um [2860.47] NJ: Before that I think they was it was it tiger that we're making for them. I'm not sure [2865.51] NJ: um [2866.39] Jae: But yeah, you know [2869.35] Jae: For the year who knows what is space alex, what do you find these days then a fix wing? [2874.71] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): You've got to watch what you're trying. Oh, I tried flying a fixed ring last year, but I stopped [2881.03] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Directly with it because it just crashed all the time [2884.31] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): And I didn't manage to start it. It was just going into the ground all the time. It's it was a bonsai [2892.15] Jae: Oh, yeah, I know bonsai [2894.15] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): It was [2895.35] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): It was it said no [2897.59] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): And at present I built a few days ago with a decoy obsession [2903.11] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): And that's the plot and quad i'm flying at present [2906.23] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah [2907.91] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): You see it no no banny fly is that I think yeah. Yeah, maybe I also have a [2914.15] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Three yeah, this one. That's clearly a guitar [2921.67] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): This one is a [2924.15] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Smaller quad with free store drops it crashed last weekend, but um [2930.55] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah, it's very good. It has a it has a built-in this kiss ayo [2936.71] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): This new all-in-one flight controller. Oh, yeah. Yeah [2940.31] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah [2941.35] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): right [2945.11] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah [2946.71] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): That's what i'm trying in present [2948.95] Jae: Cold cold [2950.31] Jae: I know i'm flying because he's a reverb at the moment turn three math. Matthew. What are you flying then? [2955.75] Matthew (KQRC): I'm flying the uh [2957.75] Matthew (KQRC): Looks like we're doing this. Hold on [2960.79] Jae: What how was it? [2962.95] Jae: He's lined them all up. I mean i've seen this other frame but yeah [2967.67] Jae: It's new year, isn't it? [2969.67] Matthew (KQRC): Your wife really gets annoyed with them now [2973.51] Matthew (KQRC): They live somewhere [2975.27] Matthew (KQRC): So i've got the uh [2976.47] Adam: Is that is that the bedroom that you share with your wife as well? Absolutely. Yeah, it's safer away from the kids here. Believe me [2983.43] Matthew (KQRC): There's three kids running about downstairs. So i've got the um the sean orca [2989.03] Matthew (KQRC): Running race flight. Um [2991.43] Matthew (KQRC): And this is really cool. I really like this. It's um, i'm not very good at pit tuning. So [2997.27] Matthew (KQRC): The revo f4 board works really well in that and then i've just built the the new [3003.51] Matthew (KQRC): lumineer one [3005.75] Matthew (KQRC): Um, so this is pretty cool [3007.75] Tony: What's that cool? [3009.43] Matthew (KQRC): Uh, i'm not it's the sharp who won dave [3013.03] Matthew (KQRC): dave [3013.91] Matthew (KQRC): dave's frame. It's the qavx [3016.23] Matthew (KQRC): Qavx. Yeah, yeah [3018.39] Matthew (KQRC): so [3019.75] Matthew (KQRC): I prefer dave [3022.15] Matthew (KQRC): You could rename it you could rename sharp who dave definitely [3027.51] Tony: Nj, we'll be sending you a revo soon. We're the motor mounts will be in soon [3032.15] Tony: So you'll be getting one of them to build and review [3035.11] NJ: I've got a big stack of components waiting ready in in one corner of my my building room [3040.55] NJ: Tony so very much looking forward to uh to seeing that and having a play [3045.83] Jae: Yeah, alex you referred to your motors then. I mean, is that something likely to be uh out on the market this year or [3053.19] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yes, of course, of course, uh, we will release them this year for sure and um, yeah, we have a [3059.83] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah, I have to say a funny problem at present [3062.47] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): And we have a professional measuring stand for testing all these values of a motor [3067.83] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): But we are not getting the same value like for example with this mini quad test bench [3072.95] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): And even if you test motors from other manufacturers [3077.11] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): you're also getting the same values like the one for mini quad test bench [3081.91] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): And at present we are checking what's going on. It's uh, yeah, it sounds a little bit strange but um [3089.03] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): It's not that easy to uh to do measurements [3092.55] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Who are all the time the same? [3094.79] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): especially with some [3101.4] Tony: Do we not can you can you tell us anything about what kv you're gonna do is it gonna be [3107.48] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Additions yeah, um, we have uh, I think we also release a picture of it. I have to check it. Um, [3114.76] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): yeah, um, of course, we have [3117.38] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): 2205 [3119.62] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): 0.5 with a 2300 kv and [3124.24] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): 2500 kv [3126.5] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Okay, cool. Yeah [3127.94] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): And the weight why what was the weight? I don't know [3131.38] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): the country member, um [3133.62] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): But it's I think it was the same way to like the corporate championship the present one the um, the [3141.09] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah, the 2205 [3143.73] Tony: Yeah, they're gonna be called airbirds. Uh the same [3147.57] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Um, we don't have a name yet at present [3150.93] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): We are looking for a name at present. Um, but um, yeah [3155.57] Tony: So we could do an ldo competition then to know [3159.33] Adam: Okay [3161.33] Jae: Someone got mine already. Uh, yes. Sorry Adam [3168.21] Tony: We've got uh a couple of questions here gabriel bow asks nj [3173.09] Tony: Uh, are you ever have you ever thought about doing some stick vids nj? [3178.13] NJ: Um, so [3179.81] NJ: In my playlist for the flight tutorial stuff that i've done, uh, and i'm very particular about laying out my channel [3186.29] NJ: So all the playlists are there so you can find things quite easily [3189.17] NJ: There is a flight tutorial playlist and everything that i've done in that is done in black box with the sticks overlay [3195.49] NJ: They might be talking about whether I want to do [3198.69] NJ: A freestyle video with a top down shot of what i'm doing with the sticks. Um [3204.05] NJ: Yes, if I can maybe coach jay into standing over me and filming down at the uh transmitter while I fly about [3211.09] NJ: Um, sure. Yeah, I might might very well do that [3214.45] NJ: Uh in the future as soon as it warms up a bit [3217.97] Tony: Yeah, it is a bit cold out there. Yeah, it's horrible and [3222.05] Tony: As asked he missed the the rx lap timer talk but ask if the webcast overlay has been worked out yet question mark [3231.33] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): So I think the webcast [3233.73] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Uh, he talks about an overlay for example open broadcast or something like this [3238.53] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): So you can see for example the live footage of a video and over timing data [3243.97] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): And yes, it's done. Um, there are two solutions. The one is fbb sports. There is a script for it. Uh, which you can [3252.77] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): enter a open broadcaster and it will show the [3256.05] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Basic web page with all the information and the other solution is called chrono web [3262.05] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): And they also have a bigger version with lots of video effects and so on it's for big events [3268.29] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): And they also have the support for the webcast and the waste box and so on [3274.83] Tony: There you go. What's of doom? [3277.47] Tony: Is your answer [3280.67] Tony: Right what time we got left only a couple more minutes. Is there any [3285.23] Tony: Is there any [3286.83] Tony: One in the chat with any more questions, please [3292.37] Jae: Any news anything? Yeah [3294.93] Jae: Well, the days are getting longer. I'm looking out to get blind soon. I can't wait [3299.81] Jae: So the spring comes around again [3303.01] Adam: It'd be nice if they got a bit longer and also weren't snowing [3307.25] NJ: No, not snow where you are because we haven't got any here in uh, sunny benfordshire [3312.29] Adam: That's now a couple of hours ago, yeah [3314.93] Tony: It's melting pretty but pretty it's melting a lot fast [3319.57] NJ: I'd like at least to be able to to have one nice snowy video freestyle flight [3325.73] NJ: Just the one and then i'm done with it [3327.97] Jae: There is that he's already had that when he's dive bombing a viaduct [3334.53] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Did you guys really like freestyle [3337.65] Jae: Yeah [3338.61] Jae: Yeah, I mean like freestyle is the [3341.49] Jae: Sorry, let us speak for jack who's muted, but yeah only that only that [3348.13] Jae: It's all sorts, you know like [3350.37] Jae: There's so many facets to this like if I want to get a nice picture of some scenery or video [3354.29] Jae: There's another aspect if I want to just knock around in the park without setting up gates and everything like that [3358.45] Jae: That's that's freestyle [3359.89] Jae: I guess racing is fun [3361.25] Jae: But it takes effort to set up a race and it requires a few of you there to [3364.93] Jae: A put up gates markers pick it all up at the end of it. And that's sometimes the worst you have to have friends [3369.89] Adam: You have to walk around tidying up after yourself [3373.01] Jae: It's just too much, isn't it? [3375.17] Jae: Flying around I think you could make a robot to pick up the markers that you put down [3379.97] Jae: Mobile friends, that's what we did rather than actually walking around to do it [3383.73] Jae: But no, but the truth is it takes more effort to have a race [3387.41] NJ: So I like I think I think there's a there's there's a stress element there as well with with the racing stuff [3393.73] NJ: You sense the people kind of with elevated blood pressure and I could I could I certainly get the adrenaline rush that the uh, [3401.09] NJ: the racing thing [3402.77] NJ: Certainly attracts certain certain people too [3405.65] NJ: But um, i've only found whenever whenever i've done racing this I certainly come home with many more parts of quads than if I'm [3413.15] NJ: freestyling [3418.13] Jae: Do you like freestyle? [3421.17] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Uh, honestly, I am a bad freestyle I can't fly [3426.03] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Beautiful it's impossible for me [3429.81] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): so I don't get it why people like freestyling I mean and I um, [3433.97] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Conspected people who I can do this but for me it's [3438.29] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): It's boring. I I don't get it why people are doing it. But yeah [3443.81] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): I always have to admit I can't fly freestyle [3447.73] NJ: It's a bit of art Alex you have to embrace the art form [3452.05] Jae: Sometimes people fly around and they throw it, you know, they throw it around [3455.33] Jae: It's not necessarily a beautiful thing to watch as in beautiful video [3459.65] Jae: Uh, it can be quite you know [3462.69] Jae: Um, I don't know. Well what i'm saying is I suppose there's different levels of it and I think there's the proximity flying and all that [3468.93] Jae: I think any sort of the flying whether it's a race or a freestyle is is something that can be appreciated [3474.13] Jae: I mean we tried to get tony [3476.13] Jae: To fly freestyle at our let's straight out games [3479.49] Jae: And that's really happened [3481.57] Jae: He started to fly imaginary gates in the sky [3486.05] Tony: I was hunting for gates [3488.69] Jae: But yeah, you know, I I think being boxed in [3493.09] Jae: Sometimes lose out on whatever's there at the time and I don't think [3496.77] Jae: It's whether it's a like or dislike of any of it for me [3502.37] Jae: Racing is something that I think you have to fly it and be flying well at fpv [3506.21] Jae: So i've thought about going through the race circuit this year [3509.65] Jae: And do it jay. Come on. Yeah [3512.53] Jae: but [3513.41] Jae: It also takes more time money and like like nj said sometimes it'll come home with lots of it [3518.69] Adam: All right. I'm gonna have to speak on behalf of jack and say that we're coming to the end of the show [3524.29] Adam: So you two should set a date later on for the race [3528.05] Adam: Um, and we should tell everyone how to get in touch with our guests [3531.49] Jae: Yeah, and maybe if you're coming over to the uk, we'll have a fly-in and we'll set up a race for you [3534.93] Jae: Alex and uh, yeah, it'd be awesome if you have plans on it this way [3540.53] Adam: So, where do we go alex if we want to buy your stuff? [3545.01] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Um for europe you can go to airberts.de [3549.01] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): And for the states you go or america [3552.61] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): You can go to fpv canada. We also have different researchers. Let's also [3557.81] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Make it build it in uk. Yeah also our stuff [3562.13] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): Yeah [3563.25] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): And some other ones, but I can't remember all of them [3566.53] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): I am mainly responsible for the development and efforts and not selling and so on so I can't know everything [3573.25] Jae: Can you go to those awesome places? [3575.25] Jae: Had the i-o it was fpv [3577.73] Jae: Uh i-o or something. What was that website again for people? [3581.09] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): And fpv-sports.io that's the free way spanishment system [3586.77] Adam: Yeah, so and um frank asks if you're doing anything for international drone day on the 6th of may [3595.55] Adam: early may anyway [3599.62] Adam: um [3603.86] Adam: Does germany celebrate international drone day [3608.08] Alexander (EasyRaceLapTimer): International drone day. I think maybe you're running this year actually. Yeah [3614.5] Jae: Um, it started from that drone show the original podcast in america and they wanted to promote it [3619.62] Jae: every year [3621.06] Jae: Okay, they were good and people would fly them [3625.86] Adam: I'll take that as a no [3628.5] Adam: Yeah [3631.46] Adam: Fair enough [3632.9] Tony: All right, we better wrap this [3636.9] Tony: And thanks matthew, thank you [3639.54] Jae: Thank you, the motley crew that is uh [3642.66] Jae: adam [3643.94] Jae: frank [3645.22] Jae: Tony and myself [3647.22] Jae: But it's just [3649.86] Jae: Sort of [3653.46] Jae: He's been in the chat, yeah, we love you jack. We're sorry. I didn't mean to leave you off of that. Of course jack [3657.78] Jae: Is this jack? [3659.38] Tony: But thanks for listening everyone. Thank you. Cheers. Good night [3663.38] UNKNOWN: Okay
