[137.7] NJ: because yeah it was just starting to get a bit ridiculous and then of course I
[142.54] NJ: put pictures up in the group of my nice new neat organized office space to work
[148.14] NJ: on quads and was just mocked because apparently you're not a serious
[153.58] NJ: quadder if you if you have any kind of organization it's just got to be a mess
[157.58] NJ: of tools and stuff everywhere to be a real proper quadder so yeah but yeah so
[164.02] NJ: doing that getting organized so that I can crack on with more videos and bits
[168.18] NJ: been sent some interesting stuff I've been waiting for these to arrive since
[172.9] NJ: the second production run which is these guys the nine hall sense of gimbal
[182.06] Jae: give it a feel come on move it it's short in action oh yeah that was a little bit
[188.78] NJ: suggestive yeah really really quite impressed that I mean they're not in yet
[194.26] NJ: but they they do feel very very nice that's the m9 that's the m9 to go in the
[200.86] NJ: x9d and it is literally plug plug and play they've changed a little bit how
[207.5] NJ: they give you a quick flash I'll do a video on this obviously on my channel
[210.94] NJ: but they've changed the mechanism in here and took but by design compared to
[216.86] NJ: the the original ones that are in there so much easier to work on and also how
[221.82] NJ: the how this latch is lifted so that you can have a free positioning throttle
[229.46] NJ: stick that is now done with a with a set screw on the side which kind of lifts
[234.3] NJ: and holds it up so there's a less things to tweak and mess around with to
[238.7] NJ: actually disengage the the throttle stick so yeah it's yeah they've kind of
[243.5] NJ: done a little bit of a nice redesign on these as well as they've tidied up the
[247.5] NJ: design as well as obviously the nice high resolution you get with with the
[251.58] NJ: hall sensors the magnetic hall sensors and yeah it just feels really nice
[255.54] NJ: quality so yeah I'm really looking forward to putting those in the x9d the
[260.58] NJ: ones I really want to get because I'm flying the qx7 a lot of the minute as
[265.06] NJ: you know because we went out and flew today is the m7 gimbals now they are
[269.26] NJ: coming I still don't have a I haven't been told when but I will I will shout
[276.1] NJ: about it as soon as I know at least when they when they should start shipping but
[279.42] NJ: they are they are a product that's arriving soon for those of you that have
[283.42] Jae: got a qx7 see you're all faithful Taranis hasn't even seen the light of
[287.82] Jae: day recently has it I mean your qx7 it's been out there all the time the problem
[293.26] NJ: that I have at the minute with my Taranis at some point while I was
[297.42] NJ: traveling in Australia and when I was in Australia we did I think it was it was
[302.7] NJ: something like 11 flights across two weeks it was a lot of traveling around
[306.34] NJ: the country and at some point something happened on one of those flights and
[312.34] NJ: then I went to fly the next day after one of these flights it was somewhere
[316.78] NJ: about three-quarters of the way through the trip and the the antenna well of my
[321.7] NJ: RS RSSI warnings were going off with it less than kind of you know a hundred
[326.22] NJ: feet away and obviously that's not right and so I don't know if it's a
[330.22] NJ: particular bang or a drop or something happened but yeah the XJ team module has
[334.74] NJ: gone kaput and unfortunately that's that's the actual XJ team module in the
[340.66] NJ: back of the X9D is about a third the price of the actual transmitter itself
[345.46] NJ: which is annoying so I have to replace that but in the meantime I've been
[349.06] NJ: using a module in the back so that's it's just a fast and I need to fix it
[352.94] NJ: and do a few bits and pieces but now they've arrived I'm gonna install those
[357.38] NJ: I'm gonna do a custom paint job and it's white it's already a good color to
[363.06] Jae: start from isn't it so the X9D is silver oh I'm sorry you're gonna do that
[368.26] Jae: some paint job on you ah I think you should paint the white one in fact open
[372.18] Jae: it up to us to paint it for you I mean that's still in hello Kitty
[378.66] Clint: that's interesting so the gimbals aren't cross compatible you can't use them
[382.78] NJ: between the throne us and me and me no and I will have a look I'm sure the
[387.86] NJ: answer is out there as to why but I think it's got something to do with the
[391.58] NJ: mounting the way these mount I've heard some people say it's to do with the
[394.42] NJ: mounting and I've heard some people say that the plugs are different because
[399.38] NJ: these are plug-and-play there's no soldering or anything to do so yeah the
[404.94] NJ: seven gimbals will be different and I imagine they probably will have a
[408.74] NJ: different mounting set up on them so yeah we'll see but yeah you haven't
[415.7] Jae: heard when then no one wanting to upgrade their newly purchased radios well
[420.22] NJ: these about the the second production run of these these are now shipping to
[423.58] NJ: those that pre-ordered them but I know mr. Steele literally six seven hours ago
[429.98] NJ: put up a video about these and saying how much he loves them which is great
[435.98] NJ: but it also means that his 90,000 plus subscribers that didn't know about these
[440.3] NJ: and probably so they're probably gonna go out again so I imagine they've
[444.94] NJ: really got a step up producing these because I think every everyone's gonna
[448.18] NJ: want to switch over to them I mean my the centering is what you'll notice
[451.86] NJ: really go on the Taranis is its ability to when when you go into say the
[456.62] NJ: butterfly configure configurator in the GUI and you get the receiver tab if you
[460.86] NJ: see a lot of twitching at center stick on its own like you know it's really
[465.18] NJ: starting to twitch an awful lot and it could be sort of as much as five
[469.18] NJ: microseconds either side they're basically they're going bad and mine my
[473.78] NJ: Taranis is probably about a year old and the centering on them is pretty
[476.18] NJ: terrible now and you solve that turn your dead band up a bit to take care of
[480.02] NJ: it but it's not ideal this obviously being full sensors magnetic sensors
[485.62] NJ: great resolution centering should be absolutely bang-on and there's nothing to
[490.1] NJ: wear out so these are you know and for the price 20 pounds each you can't go
[494.54] Jae: wrong so it's quite funny actually because I've got if any more members in
[498.98] Jae: the old DX 7 radio doing that same jittering around the center stick and so
[504.46] Jae: I decided to I did actually test out the customer service horizon hobby and
[508.5] Jae: this is like a ten-year-old radio send it in we'll fix it for free it's like
[511.74] NJ: mmm but I mean I won't use it horizon we're great actually I had a few
[517.78] NJ: over the years and they they fixed some stuff up for me yeah they're a good
[522.18] Jae: company they are a good company so I don't know this is why it's just a shame
[527.42] Jae: the feature set isn't as rich indeed I was gonna say I had a question is I was
[533.02] Clint: curious I was thinking today is do you do you because obviously you do a lot
[536.5] Clint: of reviews and stuff what what do you think the score is on the new on a new
[541.98] Clint: Toronto sort of qx7 do you think it's worth people upgrading from the
[545.68] Clint: tranis to the qx7 or do you think it's it's basically go there if you don't
[549.3] NJ: have one you see that's an interesting thing that you've said upgrading
[553.94] NJ: because some people would argue it's a downgrade because you know you're going
[558.02] NJ: for less features I was for some reason there was this misconception that this
[562.94] NJ: because it was named the seven and not the nine that it would support less
[565.98] NJ: channels which of course it doesn't it supports the full full 16 channels YRS
[570.7] NJ: bus and in fact it will support if you can combine it with the XJ an X separate
[575.5] NJ: XJ T module in the back and actually run 32 channels if you really want and go
[580.48] NJ: absolutely nuts if there's something you're running 32 channels for which I
[584.22] NJ: can't think maybe a an RC or RC or yeah with gun turrets that can move in both directions
[591.98] NJ: but it's really I think if you if you were to put I was gonna say if you put
[598.1] NJ: money aside it's kind of hard not to because it is so good for the money
[602.26] NJ: there is definitely something in terms of what they've done form-wise I think
[607.34] NJ: there's lots of little design improvements in terms of how easy it is
[611.7] NJ: to access get into how you know switches don't fall out of it when you open it up
[616.42] NJ: they've just they've done really nice little design revisions to kind of make
[623.3] NJ: it easy to work on it's just been tweaked really nicely but it does just
[629.7] NJ: lose a couple of features a couple of switches and a couple of sliders at the
[633.98] NJ: back and other than that you know the speakers better it's it's much clearer
[638.18] NJ: and doesn't distort and yeah there's the definitely a preference thing I think it
[644.5] NJ: takes a little while to get used to your holdings it does feel a little bit
[647.94] NJ: wider it's about 200 grams lighter there is there's the biggest thing is you
[653.74] NJ: can't charge it has got a charging port on it which is I think some people will
[659.1] NJ: probably turn their nose up at that although you could fit one yourself but
[664.18] NJ: on the whole yeah I think it's a great transmitter for the money with a set of
[668.78] NJ: whole sense of gimbals assuming they're going to be the same price as the ones
[671.82] NJ: that are available now for the x9d you're talking about 140 140 pounds and
[680.14] NJ: that's a really yeah with all sensors that's a very compelling very compelling
[685.82] NJ: package I'd say I'd say anyone that is interested in both that and the x9d I
[691.54] NJ: mean the the community is huge you must know some people that have got one or
[696.46] NJ: the other go and just have a feel of both and see which you like because I've
[701.06] NJ: seen people who have seen mine and initially didn't like the concept of it
[704.94] NJ: picked it up and actually said god I really like this and I'm talking about
[707.86] NJ: people that already own an x9d so so yeah I think it could yeah it's
[713.56] NJ: brilliant it's great great product I don't think anyone that I haven't seen
[716.22] NJ: anyone buy one and say they're unhappy with it you know and I'm enjoying using
[720.34] Jae: it so it does ask if anyone's fine with Futaba t10 I haven't used Futaba in many
[727.9] NJ: many years I think I haven't lost a really old Futaba and so I can't
[732.74] NJ: remember which one it was actually last time I flew Futaba a great actually
[737.22] Jae: somebody got a plane and it had it looks like it was from the 1960s a Futaba
[742.26] Jae: radio and it probably still works for this day but it was 72 megahertz I
[747.1] Jae: think they're crazy but I mean they've been one of the longest run ins haven't
[749.82] NJ: they yeah well we are s buster for you taba you know they're yeah they're
[754.14] NJ: brilliant Futaba stuffs always been been really great I'm sorry there's a
[758.58] Jae: question yeah is the screen the same it's not is it it's a lower resolution
[764.3] NJ: on there it's slightly the resolution didn't bother me in the slightest I
[768.18] NJ: didn't even notice at first until I turned them both on and put them side by
[771.74] NJ: side it's it's been laid out I mean it is physically smaller and I think a
[778.14] NJ: little bit taller but the menus have been laid out the open TX guys have done a
[782.86] NJ: great job with the menu system and it's been laid out to work with the hardware
[787.42] NJ: that's the important bit and they've made things scroll more think more
[792.26] NJ: options scroll scroll vertically than scroll horizontally like they do on the
[796.38] NJ: x9d now you've got that nice jog wheel on the on the qx7 it's just a nice match
[804.54] NJ: so that screen and the layout is tailored really well to the new hardware
[809.94] NJ: so I think they've married those too well to the point where it's yeah it
[814.06] NJ: nothing annoyed me about the way that's all laid out now it works works perfectly
[818.34] NJ: and yeah yeah it's it's good that's that's absolutely not a reason to be
[823.58] NJ: concerned at all the screen screens not an issue whatsoever just to make it
[828.46] Jae: clear nj does not receive any endorsements for the number of times he
[830.94] Jae: mentions the products but you were a spectrum you I mean you've migrated
[839.1] Jae: across for presumably telemetry and all those features that yeah I mean what
[844.02] NJ: was your reason for migration so I my favorite thing about spectrums in the
[850.34] NJ: world has to be the gimbals the gimbals on speccies are just delicious
[855.98] NJ: absolutely delicious gimbals that just do a wonderful wonderful job they're
[861.18] NJ: just the the centering that's a real big thing as well is how how a stick
[866.74] NJ: recenters and yeah I've tried loads of radios over you know 25 years of our
[873.62] NJ: seeing and there's just something special about the gimbals on spectrums
[878.3] NJ: yeah they they center beautifully the resistance right the way at the edge how
[882.9] NJ: smooth they are the bearings everything you know if I could I think you can
[887.26] NJ: actually retrofit so yeah but bastard eyes one of my one of my hot glue and
[901.34] NJ: superglue the issue I had was with the DX8 specifically which was the range
[906.98] NJ: issues and that was driving me nuts because everything was great and I was
[912.82] NJ: you know flight as soon as I got just the medium distance away not even that
[916.94] NJ: far and yeah I just get you know drop outs and it would go fail safe and fall
[921.94] NJ: out of the sky and it just drove me nuts and the DX8 specifically it was I think
[926.82] NJ: the EU version which we all got was 25 milliwatts okay it was really even you
[933.8] NJ: know 2.4 slightly longer wavelength it's still pretty good but 25 milliwatts is
[939.26] NJ: just it's just not enough you know whereas the tyrannis is up more like a
[942.22] NJ: hundred I think which is probably the legal limit of where we are on 2.4 in
[946.9] NJ: this country but yeah that the DX8 that was the biggest problem whereas the the
[951.9] NJ: American version of the DX8 that did have a hundred or even 150 milliwatts I
[957.22] NJ: think so there was a lot of people who were actually getting theirs on import
[961.5] NJ: so that they could you know have the radio that they wanted but without these
[965.46] NJ: problems but I think the DX9 like you've never had a problem the DX9 them I don't
[970.46] NJ: know what the output is on that but they obviously saw I don't think I've ever
[976.14] Jae: seen you they were the dual dual antenna I think design helps a lot on
[981.02] Jae: that so I think that's one strengthening part of it but I mean the
[985.46] Jae: other day when we're near it near to a phone mast the spectrums each seem quite
[988.54] Jae: work solid and it's always comforting for me because I mean I invested it
[991.62] Jae: since the DX7 you know all the heli pilots were flying and I thought well
[994.9] Jae: that's a bit long before the tyrannis even came about that's why I thought
[997.74] Jae: what if a 3d heli pilots find these things that's why I invested into it but
[1001.22] Jae: the receivers are always so expensive on the spectrum and that's why I kind of
[1003.8] Jae: been locked in because I already had some I've made slow improvements on that
[1007.68] Clint: yeah problem doesn't it as well as receivers like go from one radio to
[1012.08] Clint: another and have to upgrade everything yeah exactly so like when I went from my
[1016.84] Clint: 9xd and got my turn of G evolution I love this thing but I am a little bit
[1023.08] Clint: concerned about the range I don't know I mean it hasn't felt safe to me yet but I
[1026.84] Clint: am a little bit concerned not having external antennas and not being able
[1030.24] Clint: to upgrade them but how far it is gonna go before it does sort of fail over a
[1033.6] NJ: building or something I think with the antennas it's there's there's no reason
[1037.64] NJ: to be paranoid about the antennas it's to be honest it's more about placement
[1042.16] NJ: the antenna inside the inside the radio that matters for instance if you want to
[1046.44] NJ: have you know generally people fly out in the area in front of them where
[1050.28] NJ: they're going to use a radio so it makes sense to have the antenna flat this way
[1055.24] NJ: and to have it you know as close to the front edge as possible a terrible place
[1060.06] NJ: to put it would be to put it at the back under that screen you know where
[1064.22] NJ: it might have a big metal shielding and lots of things to block it and that will
[1067.22] NJ: reduce your age so a lot of a lot of range can be down to the radios design
[1071.06] NJ: itself and I think there's been I think was it the Horace maybe had a few issues
[1075.78] NJ: with with the range on that because of where certain components were placed but
[1081.78] NJ: I haven't heard anything bad at all about the evolution I'd like to mess
[1086.22] NJ: around with one I just didn't know if it would suit my style of flying because I
[1089.98] NJ: pinch I find that that's more like a gamepad isn't it yeah I mean it's I mean
[1095.34] Clint: I love it because the throw is shorter okay when you're trying to do nice fast
[1100.06] Clint: moves you just haven't got to move the sticks as far and I really like that I
[1104.3] Clint: mean I have had this thing apart and the antennas there's two antennas one on each
[1107.02] Clint: side right in the back right and they're sort of flat flat antennas I have four
[1111.9] Clint: about putting some SMAs on the back with some right angles and sort of put
[1116.5] Clint: some antennas on the back extend it yeah that's yeah I have I haven't sort
[1120.54] Clint: of seen anybody's done it yet but I was was thinking about giving it a crack I
[1123.58] Clint: mean I love this thing I I went from the 9 XD the Tyrannus and yeah did you
[1130.22] Jae: think you're flying got better as in because you can do the fascistic
[1133.9] Clint: movements straight away because you just don't have to move everything as far you
[1137.02] Clint: you know it's still the same amount of points isn't it but it's like the
[1141.5] Clint: throttle it's it's such a short throw to get from one place to another it's just
[1145.9] Jae: not far at all and I'm an answer to your question you asked about pinching I did
[1152.66] Jae: actually borrow or use yours one day playing on blossom drone Clinton and I
[1156.18] Jae: actually found you can't to pinch on it reasonably well despite the small form
[1159.66] Jae: factor but I always thought it was for me I like a chunky radio to know it's
[1165.46] Jae: there you know that it's it's there in control and I suppose when I tried the
[1169.54] Jae: evolution first up it did feel like a games controller and so I don't know if
[1175.18] Jae: I I was comfortable with that size because that weight I don't know it just
[1178.82] Jae: it's what I was used to so it was quite a shock but it's a nice little radio
[1182.9] Clint: when I was when I was playing the simulators a lot of times I couldn't be
[1186.98] Clint: bothered to hook up my Tyrannus and ended up just playing on an Xbox pad
[1190.74] Clint: and I found that I was flying a lot better with the Xbox pad than I was with
[1194.46] Clint: the Tyrannus even with a sprung throttle sprung even with the sprung
[1199.18] Clint: throttle that's weird a lot easier to use that than what I was to use the
[1202.9] Clint: Tyrannus I found the Tyrannus really sort of cumbersome and clumsy I guess
[1207.62] NJ: it's yeah it's horses for courses isn't it I mean for me yeah because I've you
[1212.38] NJ: know I've been using these things since I was you know a little kid I'm just
[1216.9] NJ: used to the feel and the precision and having the extra room gives you more
[1221.06] NJ: more precision in terms of the finer movements for me whereas the closer it
[1225.18] NJ: is the harder it is to find those yeah that's but that's just for me personally
[1229.46] NJ: that's very it's a very subjective thing but as I say with all these things you
[1232.78] NJ: know when it's right because you pick it up and then all of a sudden you feel
[1235.58] NJ: the change that's positive so it's good to try all these things out does it
[1239.14] NJ: actually have a arranged test mode on that and another so it does have RSI I've
[1247.1] Clint: never had it be the meat sorry not not RSI the button to hold down to it's your
[1252.5] Clint: power output no range check like the Tyrannus okay that was that was wondering
[1257.26] NJ: because then you could sort of I mean you can do a range test but it's a long
[1261.06] Clint: walk for someone yeah yeah then one of the kids out yeah bring it back I'm
[1273.06] Jae: waiting for the day I mean I think someone did actually train a dog once to
[1275.9] Jae: fetch them back didn't they as in quad lands in a park and the dog brings it
[1280.1] Jae: back amazing I'll never forget the day actually hidden valley I think it was
[1287.14] Jae: the weekend we actually met up actually Clinton it was your birthday last year
[1291.1] Jae: music our way back and I think it's the first unofficial landing you've ever
[1296.34] Jae: done that's aided by a dog dog assisted landing and I was fighting a little
[1301.94] Jae: microphone and the dog was chasing it and I was thinking it just swallowed up
[1305.02] Jae: in one one foul swoop but you put your gravity up for a little while didn't you
[1309.3] Jae: and I'd never seen it before in the air but coming to land you want to tell the
[1312.46] Clint: story so it's the GSX GSX no was it was the fossil yeah FSG X 210 and yeah the
[1322.5] Clint: dog was chasing it so we thought our better better sort of hover and I must
[1326.82] Clint: have been sort of what free meters in the air and the dog managed to get that high
[1330.5] Clint: and caught the quad straight out the air I feel quite bad I mean we well we did
[1335.86] Jae: check the dog over at the time and there was a person that works with dogs that
[1338.54] Clint: didn't give it official yeah I mean the dog was fine good old stiffly we have
[1345.26] Clint: PV the dog I was just about to say something I can't remember who he was we had a little micro
[1349.26] Clint: micro camera off one of the little microtrains and we managed to strap it
[1354.82] Clint: to the dog's collar it was quite it was quite a dog running around a field and I
[1360.5] Clint: could do that all day but yeah no that was that was a good day that was a good
[1363.94] Jae: day yeah it was good to me actually and look at us now you're on the show this
[1367.94] Jae: week so but that's not your most well I mean technically that's not a crash is
[1371.66] Jae: it you came in quite but you've had some pretty horrific crash stories I think I
[1375.66] Jae: have what's your what's your but what's your best one then what do you think oh
[1379.86] Clint: dear I think there's been a few I think it's been a few the most annoying one
[1383.94] Clint: was at Hidden Valley an hour and a half driveway and getting there I had some
[1389.42] Clint: brand new batteries and it was actually Tony that put me straight on this but I
[1393.3] Clint: I'd assumed that I'd had a radio dropout or something and the quad just wouldn't
[1398.3] Clint: go over the top of these buildings as much as I put the accelerator on it just
[1403.3] Clint: not a throttle up it didn't want to move and I hit the side of a building two
[1408.7] Clint: minutes and five seconds into driving an hour half and didn't have a spare quad
[1413.38] Clint: which was quite irritating that was the most irritating one but I think the
[1416.62] Clint: worst one was when my quad got run over by two cars no no I hit a tree it must
[1426.58] Clint: have been a good it must have been a good 40 meters away from the road and I
[1430.34] Clint: hit a tree and it just it just seemed to go through everything that was green and
[1434.02] Clint: didn't hit anything on its way through it actually went through two trees and
[1437.06] Clint: a tree line and then ended up in the middle of the road and yeah someone
[1441.46] Clint: decided that they were gonna steer their car directly at it so anything's

[1473.58] Clint: that one yeah it's pretty pretty pretty pretty horrific but to be fair I got
[1479.54] Clint: home and when I realized I had the DVR footage it it was all okay well this is
[1484.06] NJ: that this is just the thing isn't it if anyone talks to me about what's the
[1487.66] NJ: worst thing that's happened there's no crash I mean I could tell you about
[1490.22] NJ: thousands of crashes over the years with different aircraft but it's always about
[1494.02] NJ: losing the damn camera that is the worst by far you lose a camera and it's
[1499.28] NJ: just devastating I don't care about the camera it's the footage I want the
[1502.92] NJ: footage because cameras will come and go quads will come and go the only bit
[1506.56] NJ: that you can immortalize is your footage that's the that's where all the cool
[1509.88] NJ: stuff is and I've got at least two cameras out in the field up the road
[1513.88] NJ: from me with amazing footage on them that's just you know well by now it's
[1518.08] NJ: probably been chopped up in a combine avister and in someone's breakfast but
[1522.24] Jae: you know my very first foray into aerial photography I used to just I
[1527.32] Jae: didn't have a GoPro on him as long before GoPros were about and you know I
[1530.96] Jae: had to stop my mobile phone to it and it went through did various iterations but
[1534.68] Jae: my quad at one site I struck my phone to it and send it up and it turned upside
[1538.56] Jae: down mid mid-air felt all the way straight to the ground and I tried
[1541.6] Jae: riding it but surprisingly the phone survived the court did not but that was
[1545.88] Jae: all because if we talk last week about the mounting of it had to mounted in
[1548.56] Jae: this thick pattern foam just so I didn't get jello all over the video so that
[1552.04] Clint: it worked but I was gonna say another another great crash was I don't know if
[1556.84] Clint: you you guys were in Carlito Carlos and yeah he put his phone on his on his
[1563.28] Clint: quadcopter and did a live stream from his quadcopter and I saw it and I was
[1566.32] Clint: like oh that's a great idea I'm gonna go do exactly the same thing so I went out
[1569.84] Clint: started live streaming to Facebook and within about 30 seconds I ended up in a
[1574.2] NJ: tree somewhere live streaming a tree I think Facebook live must have a lot to
[1581.0] NJ: answer for on a daily basis there's some dodgy things on there somewhere

[1597.32] Jae: there was a crash last night somebody hadn't I won't name and shame them but I
[1601.36] Jae: actually saw a light going through a night sky in slow motion as it was
[1605.6] Jae: heading towards cars and thankfully no car was hit but if you hit something
[1609.04] Jae: there is the your spin of death or does the you know that it can control them
[1612.88] Jae: and they can launch up rather than just crashing to the ground so let's hope

[1645.56] Clint: installed this and set it up I was having so many issues like everybody else
[1649.8] Clint: with the your twitching and everything like that but now I just I don't think I
[1657.48] Clint: could fly it's like going from angle mode to acro and you know after a few
[1664.04] Clint: weeks if you try to fly angle you just can't do it it's like impossible you like
[1667.88] Clint: how how did I ever do that and I think race flight has has literally become
[1672.0] Clint: like that I can't ever envision flying anything else now it's just I'm 100%
[1678.64] NJ: sold on it and let me let me ask you this have you actually bothered tuning
[1683.64] NJ: it or if it has it flown great on defaults and you've just left them where
[1686.96] NJ: they are and just playing the race I've been playing with the race it's I don't
[1692.24] NJ: know about the PIDS what have you done with those nothing see that's the bit
[1697.44] NJ: that I'm finding interesting is how many people are just you know if it flies
[1701.72] NJ: well out the box and then just get the rates where they want them and don't
[1704.76] NJ: touch them so I messed around a lot more today with the tuning to try and get a
[1708.6] NJ: feel it's it's it's interesting because I mean the number systems different
[1715.12] NJ: that's the bit I wish all these controllers having flown most of them
[1718.96] NJ: they've all got their own numbering system and one can be you know you know
[1723.0] NJ: five point six is a good P term and then on another is 140 is the the P term good
[1730.68] NJ: point and all that stuff makes things a little bit a little bit tricky but I've
[1737.08] NJ: tried to move the numbers in some kind of meaningful way on on RF1 to see what
[1743.64] NJ: was different and I'm finding that what my initial suspicions were that the
[1749.48] NJ: tuning envelope seems to be a lot bigger and that you can move what you'd
[1754.44] NJ: consider to be fairly meaningful numbers where you start to see differences in
[1758.24] NJ: the P term and you might you still might not see it until you keep moving and
[1761.56] NJ: keep moving so there's obviously a quite you know whatever this default tune is
[1765.08] NJ: and it might be a trick of the filtering I don't know because there's
[1769.48] NJ: there's a lot to adjust in filtering on on RF1 as well but it does seem like
[1773.24] NJ: that tuning envelope is is is bigger having now spent a little time messing
[1777.8] NJ: around with the tune but again it's not I'm not having a making fun of you in
[1783.72] NJ: any way if it if you get out of the box and it flies great why did why would you
[1788.12] NJ: touch it leave it set the rates where you want it and go fly have fun yeah I
[1792.32] Clint: mean I to be fair I've never been big on tuning anyway I mean I have flown
[1798.16] Clint: quads that you can just tell that they are terrible and they definitely
[1803.04] Clint: definitely need a tune but I can't see I can't see anything wrong with it when I
[1808.16] Clint: fly I can't see any wobbles I can't see any twitching I can't see anything it
[1812.24] Clint: just goes and does exactly what I wanted to do and when I wanted to do it so I I
[1817.52] Clint: wouldn't know where to start with tuning race flight I even debate whether it's
[1822.84] NJ: possible yeah it's yeah that's that in itself is an interesting thing and
[1829.76] NJ: something that you know we kind of touched on with Joshua last week which
[1834.36] NJ: was you know I mean there's there's Josh who goes to the absolute nth degree to
[1840.16] NJ: to teach people how to tune and understand the real precision in
[1845.44] NJ: understanding the black box and how to look at the data from that and you know
[1851.16] NJ: seeing in look at the data and how to make it work for you to get a better
[1855.92] NJ: tune and really the nitty-gritty of it and there's going to be a point where
[1861.68] NJ: there's almost no need for that which I find kind of sad actually because I
[1865.92] NJ: really like that side of it and especially when you can look at
[1869.24] NJ: something like a black box log and and see what's going on and know what to
[1874.56] NJ: correct in that in terms of the numbers to then get it to work and then it works
[1879.32] NJ: it's that's a real accomplishment and it gets you a better understanding of
[1883.08] NJ: pit controllers and how that works so I really like that by understanding there
[1888.88] NJ: are people that don't and just want to just don't want to mess around with it
[1891.8] NJ: and want to go out and fly so if race flight are kind of making steps towards
[1894.88] NJ: that point where you can just plug it in and it's great you set your race and go
[1898.84] NJ: then you know power to them I think that's I think that's a good thing
[1902.88] Clint: another thing I was curious about because beta flight used to have like an
[1907.22] NJ: auto-tune feature didn't they I don't think later flight ever did clean flight
[1912.54] NJ: that had a jitter was it g-tune Jay something so you g-tune yeah there was a
[1917.62] Jae: APM also had an auto-tune and a few of them have had that auto-tune and I
[1921.58] Jae: actually tried it on an APM board because it was just flying on a 250 and
[1925.3] Jae: it was jittery and it did actually did it improved it but I've never tried
[1928.98] Clint: g-tune which was on that clean so you wonder why they haven't haven't
[1933.58] Clint: continued that feature like why isn't that something that's available and being
[1937.42] Clint: and being sort of tweaked and got why because I the trouble is there's so many
[1942.3] Jae: different things out there and they can make something that will roughly work
[1944.94] Jae: you can't cover all sort of aircraft that board might be installed on and I
[1948.42] Jae: think rather than people putting too much faith in it they probably won't
[1952.58] Jae: develop it any further for the new boys because I mean you're basically saying
[1956.38] Jae: here fly wildly and then learn what you're doing so a quad flying light
[1961.02] Jae: quite wildly may actually sort of crash and burn if you know what I mean so it's
[1966.26] Jae: all these things always to be used with a bit of caution with a lot of caution
[1970.86] NJ: really yeah I never bothered with it I saw videos of how it did its thing and
[1976.22] NJ: watched it obviously sitting there oscillating madly before you know what
[1980.74] NJ: and I just thought you know what I don't like the idea of the quad sitting up
[1984.26] NJ: there doing that without me having any real control over it yeah I'll do it the
[1989.94] NJ: old-fashioned way actually in the chat I see Ian Ian Payne has said it was G
[1995.62] NJ: tune and they ditched it only tuned P anyway so there you go and Gucci FPV
[2004.38] NJ: does NJ bleach his teeth no yeah interesting I think that that whole
[2022.86] NJ: subject is quite interesting as to where you know where tuning and filtering and
[2027.06] NJ: not filtering and where all this stuff is going because I'd like to see a happy
[2030.74] NJ: medium I'd still like to see meaningful movements in the numbers give you
[2035.9] NJ: something on the output side so that those that want to tune can really get
[2040.42] NJ: that that sort of extra 10% try and get it as perfect and prop wash free as
[2045.26] NJ: possible and get it really really nice and then there's that one that you can
[2049.42] NJ: just get out the box and it will be you know it will be decent so yeah those are
[2055.06] NJ: all those are all good things so I mean as Joshua pointed out last week we
[2060.14] NJ: can't judge race flight until it's out of release can it is RC one at the
[2064.38] NJ: minute I try and keep keep an eye on what's happening but when it does go to
[2069.94] NJ: final release then yeah I'll certainly take a real close look at it and well
[2074.02] Jae: just like some don't always update them over phone apps they don't always update
[2079.22] Jae: these things because they can break these things in updates as you and that
[2082.3] Jae: it's not as good as your last version are you not going to go back to the

[2090.1] NJ: my I'm I think part of my problem is the x25 those ZMX I love those motors in
[2096.86] NJ: terms of their power and efficiency at 2300 kV but there is an issue with those
[2102.9] NJ: and the magnets and they do not like I mean even a medium timing they seem to
[2109.02] NJ: favor medium low or low timing which is which is quite unusual and it is
[2112.74] NJ: definitely something to do with these very strong magnets that are installed
[2117.5] NJ: in them so I know I need to switch out for another set of motors I've got a set
[2122.18] NJ: of those new emacs white colored 2450 kV 2207 is coming so I'm going to chuck

[2313.06] Clint: pretty terrible I mean normally they're quite durable and they've they've just
[2317.66] Clint: been breaking one after another and yeah I mean before that I was flying the 5050
[2322.34] Clint: ones which I've actually gone back to and I know they're quite aggressive but
[2325.5] Clint: either more durable and be I think they're a lot more punch let me just let
[2333.3] NJ: me just quickly ran okay I've got like a thousand times me I'm trying to look
[2342.34] NJ: for a set of my cyclones to kind of I don't know if there's any difference
[2346.94] Jae: between the 5045 and the 5046 but the 5045 I've found very durable very
[2351.74] Clint: durable I mean I literally free sets in a couple of days which is really you
[2356.14] Clint: know normally my blades last weeks that could see getting run over okay so this
[2361.18] NJ: there's pros and cons okay so these are what have I got on here so these are the
[2366.7] NJ: 46 I'm here yeah these what I like about these these blades are slightly fatter
[2373.98] NJ: these 46 5046 but if you actually what you need to look at is the actual the
[2380.98] NJ: profile the way it sweeps down at the base and most importantly they've kind
[2385.62] NJ: of got you've almost got the width of a bull nose prop but this this taper here
[2389.7] NJ: although it kind of looks like a razor blade if you have a look at the wing of
[2393.86] NJ: something like a Dreamliner jet aircraft or any of the modern aircraft that are
[2398.42] NJ: coming out these days they aren't actually going for these retrofit kind
[2402.74] NJ: of flick-ups on the end which are all there to they're all designed to destroy
[2407.5] NJ: the vortexes that create that are created on the edge of a wing remember
[2411.94] NJ: these are just wings they're just rotating wings and the vortexes that you
[2417.42] NJ: get on the tips which create drag and they basically this is why bull noses
[2421.9] NJ: with this with the square tips are so inefficient is that you've got high
[2425.94] NJ: pressure air on the underside of the blade desperately trying to get to the
[2430.5] NJ: low pressure air on the top and as this height and remember you've got the
[2433.98] NJ: centrifugal force as well moving outwards so what you end up with is the
[2438.5] NJ: airflow underneath that's on the high pressure going up meeting the the low
[2443.86] NJ: pressure airflow the fast-moving air flow over the top and then you get this
[2447.5] NJ: vortices start to form off the tip now these basically this kind of curved
[2453.18] NJ: swept design allow those to meet more gracefully allow for much smaller
[2458.42] NJ: vortices and this is exactly why you get this kind of design on modern air
[2463.96] NJ: craft now to improve efficiency and it might only be improving efficiency by
[2467.52] NJ: five six percent but it's very very well in the aviation in commercial aviation
[2474.24] NJ: that can result in you know saving millions millions and millions of pounds
[2478.88] NJ: in fuel but this this I could tell as soon as I saw the cyclone blades that
[2485.08] NJ: this was developed by someone with some aeronautics background as opposed to
[2490.36] NJ: some of the some of the aircraft some of the prop designs I have seen which
[2494.04] NJ: are just ludicrous I mean some of them have got stripes in that go across the
[2498.48] NJ: blade and like jagged sections like great it looks looks really cool and cyber
[2506.0] NJ: but it's absolutely going to destroy the aerodynamics and efficiency and and this
[2510.36] NJ: is one of the first props I've looked at and thought I know that's going to be
[2513.76] NJ: quieter I know that's going to be a really good efficient powerful prop and
[2517.92] NJ: they are these these are my favorite props and for those reasons and lots
[2522.12] NJ: more these the cyclone v2 5046 I can't recommend these props enough certainly
[2529.4] NJ: on something around that 2300 2450 KV if you're gonna run the higher 2600 KV going
[2535.88] NJ: for the 2045s which aren't quite as aggressive but that's why I love 5045
[2541.44] NJ: sorry yeah 2045 but the other thing is these props are a little bit heavier and
[2551.32] NJ: there is a lot to be said for not over propping and how that works against the
[2555.56] NJ: amount of torque you've got available on a higher KV motor a heavier props not
[2559.72] NJ: really a great idea you tend to you know the light of the prop is the quicker the
[2564.12] NJ: motor can change RPM so there's that whole argument as well but in terms of
[2568.4] NJ: an aeronautics point of view fluid dynamics point of view these props tick
[2572.64] NJ: a lot of boxes with me and I've now been with them for using these for a long
[2576.96] NJ: time I think they're great yeah it's Cleggo that got me started on them but
[2581.0] Jae: I mean I was noticed on my QAVR the actual tip to prop tip on one of the
[2586.36] Jae: axes it's like five mil it's not much so I guess that tape point and that can
[2590.6] Jae: help in a lot when the props are going to almost touch yeah well you can you
[2593.92] NJ: can hear as soon as you hover it you put it in the hover those those props are
[2596.84] NJ: so quiet you know you know it is straight away and the fact that they're
[2600.52] NJ: quiet in the hover immediately tells you like well this is a much more efficient

[2794.68] NJ: do not get a 130 that comes with one of those terrible little CMOS cameras you
[2800.48] NJ: know get something that will accommodate a proper HS 1177 style camera
[2805.24] NJ: which immediately puts you in the headspace of flying a bigger quad when
[2809.32] NJ: you look through there and you're like okay this is what I'm familiar with this
[2812.12] NJ: and then you know but the one I had 4,000 kV max red bottoms and the 4s
[2819.28] NJ: tattoo 850 milliamp batteries and that thing is just a complete blast and it's
[2824.44] NJ: only running 4k 4k with D shot 600 and it's a lot amazing little things are I'm
[2834.12] NJ: gonna be building another 130 at some point I mean you say let me just say
[2840.44] NJ: Neil over I drone has sent me some quads the new Atto quads to have a look at so
[2846.88] NJ: I'll be looking at a couple of those one of which is one I think it's a one

[2887.88] NJ: the UB 130 that I took a look at not that long ago very similar looking to
[2893.88] NJ: that and Stu actually did a video with the GoPro on the top of it and it it was
[2901.28] NJ: fine it flew great and it could be done and these new Atto frames I think I
[2904.92] NJ: spotted one on there that they've come up with a new design which will actually
[2909.4] NJ: accommodate something like a session on top so it will lift them I mean it won't
[2914.12] NJ: perform if you think about the weight of that in comparison to the actual power
[2918.32] NJ: weight of what it is for the size it is it's not gonna it's gonna pretty drastically
[2922.4] NJ: affect its acro and thrust ability but it can it can handle it will take it I
[2926.76] Jae: think when you start adding because a CMOS camera is a lot lighter than often
[2931.48] Jae: the CCD one so I think when you start adding it all up depending on how you're
[2934.56] Jae: gonna build it I think but to go back on the CMOS cameras I used to think they
[2939.84] Jae: were rubbish ever since you know I was flying night no but at night I found a
[2948.12] Jae: new passion for these little CMOS you know streetlight FPV that's where the

[2972.88] NJ: 1200 TVL which just sounds like a latency nightmare don't happen to me
[2977.48] Clint: they have and the latency is about half that of HS 1117 or 1177 and apparently
[2984.92] Clint: latency is about half the colors are a lot better the quality is a lot better
[2989.36] Clint: and the viewing experience is just so much more pleasant the only thing is

[3008.36] NJ: interchangeable or if it's IR sensitive or IR blocked this one I don't know to
[3015.44] Clint: be fair it's a 2.5 mil lens I actually don't know if it is IR blocked or not

[3026.08] Jae: good test of that last night didn't we and Jay we set up just an LED gate and
[3031.04] Jae: some go sticks it was quite effective actually but all those with the IR
[3036.12] Jae: blocks had very trouble seeing anything really I mean you could turn up the
[3041.12] NJ: brightness but it was all yeah so we just all went and ordered stuff from Amazon
[3045.76] NJ: I would have this stuff which I mean we're done at the wrong end of winter
[3050.72] NJ: really we should have been at the start of winter this was like what was it five liters for about a tenner on Amazon this stuff was pretty good

[3314.1] Clint: 250s and stuff so maybe give them some form of 3d vision and give it 3d give

[3439.02] Clint: the mini quads hmm maybe even maybe even that's too far maybe maybe they should
[3443.78] Clint: still be more manual and more pilot orientated but yeah I mean I kind of
[3450.78] NJ: agree with with that concept of if you have the tools available and you can
[3454.56] NJ: make it work why not because we are you know it's a very Airbus way of thinking
[3458.62] NJ: about things but we are by definition flying by wire in kind of every sense
[3464.14] NJ: that you know like an Airbus is versus a yoke and stick traditional Boeing
[3469.26] NJ: aircraft is it's exactly that thing I mean if you were to take away the brain
[3474.1] NJ: that is doing all the stabilization work for you and you just had raw control
[3477.9] NJ: over you know the the axes it would be a colossal mess and crash week seconds it
[3483.5] NJ: wouldn't even know that's very true there's so much of it you know I did it
[3487.3] NJ: majority of it's being done by the flight controller and then it's
[3489.9] NJ: interpreting your stick inputs to best guess what you what you want it to do
[3495.42] NJ: you know say if there are more tools available why not it also depends on to
[3500.66] Jae: the point so to take that to one step further and all these flights planes or
[3506.26] Jae: the jet planes you cannot fly it manually because it needs that thrust
[3509.5] Jae: vectoring computational aspect to be able to fly it in the first place so yeah
[3514.46] Jae: exactly what you're saying with yours there's always sometimes the hidden
[3517.46] Jae: aspect that is making it flyable even if it does feel manual indeed but every
[3522.98] Clint: everything has its purpose as well you know a DJI is it's kind of like a
[3526.98] Clint: filming platform a racing drone is a racing drone or freestyle whatever you
[3530.74] Clint: want to do with it and this AI stuff you know think about how powerful that would
[3535.02] Clint: make search and rescue and those kind of kind of things drones for good yeah I
[3539.98] NJ: can say yeah reconnaissance and all that all that could be for bad I suppose but
[3543.34] NJ: yeah I do agree I love do you see the ambulance drone thing that they
[3546.9] NJ: prototypes did you ever see that the yeah with the defibrillator stuff is
[3553.14] NJ: really cool there's some very ideas out there on the opposite end to contraband
[3559.18] Jae: and gun turrets see well as a kid I used to think we'd have these little things
[3564.3] Jae: that would fly around and follows around and they're like in PDA so I guess this
[3567.18] Jae: is all progressed towards what is the enabling of the technology to in which
