[75.54] Jae: So this weekend I did my bit for community service, hopefully
[80.02] Jae: Estying enough time and for free community service
[82.64] Jae: I called teaching kids how to fly these things and often giving it I think it was about over a hundred kids their first flying
[88.22] Jae: Experience and they loved it as they should
[90.26] Jae: So hopefully now all the parents will be involved and everything like that
[93.34] Jae: So hopefully even though I am knackered and it is actually treacherous work

[100.78] Jae: Yeah, which is a good thing for that. I think what are you being up to MJ?
[106.58] NJ: Yeah, just still head down trying to get through
[110.06] NJ: gazillion reviews of things. So yeah, I've got some interesting bits and pieces on the on the bench to
[115.4] NJ: To look at so yeah, maybe we'll talk about some of those a little bit later
[121.52] Jae: Yeah, I think we have to get you down to teach these kids a bit better
[125.44] Jae: I mean your tutorial videos are a bit lacking these days. I think we need some more of these tutorial videos
[129.48] Jae: Wait, I'm waiting on the weather. That's my excuse right now
[137.32] Jae: It was actually yeah, my my quads been down and out actually I've had one problem
[142.72] Jae: but in in the effort of trying to fix it is basically just
[145.92] Jae: Wigging out if I did like left and right it would just cut out and reboot and fall to the ground
[150.12] Jae: And I was trying to work out what it was but in the event of actually trying to fix it with one thing. I
[156.04] Jae: Actually caused another problem which threw me out for another day or two
[158.8] Jae: And it was just a tiny blob of solder on the back of a connector as I was trying to make repairs was in the
[164.24] Jae: quad and
[165.48] Jae: You're sure it's fine. Yeah, it was a sunny day and it's like I need to fly but there's nothing
[171.12] NJ: This is why you need a nice modest 30 or 40 quads at any one time
[177.24] NJ: Yeah, exactly. You can take care of problems like this. Just throw one away and you pick up the next one and carry on
[184.36] NJ: But yes, okay, I was supposed to go out and fly today with karma FBB Bruno, which I was very much looking forward to
[192.64] NJ: Because that's usually hilarious and we'd end up pushing each other

[197.92] NJ: but yeah, the wind has been like 20 mile per hour and climb throughout the day, so we had to call it off but

[206.44] NJ: but you know, I shouldn't complain about the weather or any of us shouldn't have here in the UK because

[216.72] NJ: There's always a quite a lot of snow around and that looks like pretty cold snowy weather for you

[238.94] Seth (RC Addict): 30 and that's Fahrenheit. So

[246.06] NJ: Yeah, yeah, that sounds pretty horrific and you can't even

[251.74] NJ: yeah, tell us a little bit about
[254.58] NJ: How you got into the hobby because obviously you're
[257.7] NJ: Yeah, you're probably a little bit younger than Jay and I but you know
[261.66] NJ: How what what drew you to doing the quadcopter thing? How long ago did you did you get into it?
[268.9] Seth (RC Addict): It was about two years ago when I my one friend we were camping he had a it was like a DJI
[276.46] Seth (RC Addict): 450 or some just sort of a big aerial quad that he built
[279.98] Seth (RC Addict): And I saw that and I made it leave when we got home bought a RC helicopter just like a little I think it was
[286.46] Seth (RC Addict): four channel three channel something like that
[288.98] Seth (RC Addict): And then after that, I got a couple of those and then I saw flying Ryan on YouTube
[295.06] Seth (RC Addict): He did a lot of toy reviews of quads and stuff. He still does them and
[299.54] Seth (RC Addict): I started getting some quads based on his videos and then I talked to him a little bit and then I started my channel based
[306.5] Seth (RC Addict): Of his basically started reviewing a bunch of toy things and it grew from there
[310.82] NJ: Right amazing and you're at what now for about 12,000 subscribers. I think somewhere in that region

[320.42] NJ: Fantastic. Yes. Yeah, you've done done really well in that amount of time. Sorry about my iPad going off

[329.62] NJ: What what steered you towards the racing quads?
[331.9] NJ: Cuz I mean I was similar actually I had the first quad that I I built and got into was an old DJI
[337.3] NJ: 450 and sort of built as a camera platform as it were
[342.06] NJ: But you know what steered you towards the mini quad scene and you know
[346.06] NJ: What was your first experience with that was it also through Ryan's channel? Was there was there some other way?
[351.38] Seth (RC Addict): Called your arm. He he doesn't like to
[354.98] Seth (RC Addict): He doesn't like really I mean he does hobby grade stuff, but he doesn't like to build at all
[359.62] Seth (RC Addict): So he only buys like radio fly stuff
[361.54] Seth (RC Addict): But Bruce from RC model reviews is a CMR 250 build videos a couple years ago that he did or a year ago
[368.9] Seth (RC Addict): Something like that. That's what I followed
[371.06] Seth (RC Addict): I first built my ZM R250 because I basically just wanted more power and to go faster
[376.22] NJ: Yeah, yeah, that's the same things we all want all the time that never goes away
[381.3] NJ: Yeah, yeah, I think we've yeah again Bruce RC model reviews
[385.5] NJ: I'm sure he's responsible for getting many many people into the hobby. Yeah, it's great great chassis everyone

[394.34] NJ: Yeah, yeah, and there was a time when they were quite hard to get hold of when they the ZM R250s and
[401.3] Jae: Can you still yeah, can you still get them now? Well, I think one of mine's in the river
[411.71] Jae: Yeah, I don't think they still make him do they they may I I guess the evolution of these things
[417.27] Jae: It's so quick. We've quickly forget these old favorites of yes, the year
[421.15] Seth (RC Addict): You can still buy the ZMR style frame for like $18 on banggood. Yeah an ebay one a
[427.95] Seth (RC Addict): legitimate one or a clone one
[430.95] Jae: Well, they're all clones obviously
[434.95] NJ: Yeah clones of clones it's pretty mad
[437.43] NJ: I you know I was I know this could obviously got it got published in a few different places the the the clone
[443.63] NJ: That get policy have done of the obsession
[447.35] NJ: Which has just recently come out and you know, you know, it annoys me more. I mean it should annoy you anyway, but when you see
[455.11] NJ: so much love goes into the design of these things and the designers should get their money for their great work and then
[461.15] NJ: You know that the copies are just so
[464.31] NJ: shameless, aren't they you know, there's no
[466.79] NJ: That they might change a color here and there or maybe the the end of the arm design
[470.63] NJ: But they'll pretty much outright say yeah, we'll have that we'll knock it out cheaper and we'll sell a ton of them
[477.79] Jae: Yes, and often I think people getting into the hobby might think well
[480.99] Jae: I'll buy two of them for the same cost of one that way if I break one
[483.87] Jae: I've got this bet and I suppose the clients never match the same build quality of the original bit the love's been
[489.87] NJ: You know, yeah, that's very true. Very true. Often the carbon parts aren't nearly as nearly as nice
[496.43] NJ: You know, it's kind of a compact and tight the weavers and the carbon is often often quite inferior
[503.31] NJ: Although you know, they have got better
[507.51] NJ: Yeah, you're not really getting the same the same thing as the designer intended it I don't think
[513.31] NJ: But yeah, what can you do?

[518.87] Seth (RC Addict): Saw a post by I'd be crazy Alex grieve the other day about his new ion antennas. They're really small and
[526.03] Seth (RC Addict): About people cloning his designs. He said he spent like fifty five thousand dollars and like six thousand hours on these things
[532.91] Seth (RC Addict): And they got cloned in a week or whatever

[539.27] Jae: Ironically of that most cost was the legal fees and the patent fees costs two things that don't really say against it other than
[546.99] Jae: In a legal sense and I've read that with interest and yeah
[550.87] Jae: It's a shame isn't it because then not only the manufacturer but all that that was only a small subset of it of cost wise

[558.51] NJ: Yeah, I mean is it is it worth anything then?
[562.39] Jae: If it's just gonna get cloned anyway, so

[566.31] NJ: Yeah, it's a tricky one. I think you know, you hear stories of these
[570.27] NJ: Factories in China if they do ever get you know enough legal weight against them a lot of these companies will just simply close down
[579.39] NJ: So and disappear off the face of the earth for a week and then a brand new one opens up next door and it's under
[586.15] NJ: A different name and probably all the same people doing doing something else. It's the same thing
[590.19] NJ: Yeah, so it's I think it's a very very tough thing to
[593.55] NJ: to do anything about
[595.99] Jae: you know, that's but surely then the only way to tackle it is for the buyer to not buy these claim products, but
[602.23] NJ: Yeah, you can try and you know, yeah, you can try and
[607.23] NJ: Pull on the heartstrings of the people that are buying it
[610.19] NJ: But I guess that at the end of the day the budgets the budget if you've got the money there to build a clone and get
[614.75] NJ: airborne and fly
[616.27] NJ: Or it's a case of waiting another month and a half before you've got the funds to buy the original stuff
[623.11] NJ: you know the temptations there isn't it and
[626.47] NJ: People want to get airborne I can I can see how it happens
[629.27] NJ: But I always try and encourage if you can't if you got you know
[632.79] NJ: if that's your budget if you can't afford it and you've got to go to the clone route and this was something that I
[637.15] NJ: Try and suggest whenever I talk about flight controllers like the SPF 3 clones and whatever
[642.39] NJ: I always say look you're happy with it
[644.55] NJ: Wait, it's all worked out just go and donate to Dominic Clifton go and just drop some donation money into the to the designers
[650.63] NJ: At least it's something
[652.31] NJ: That they won't get a return on any other way
[655.39] NJ: Yeah, and so that's that's all you can do really is just try and encourage that a little bit more
[660.87] NJ: but yeah, I guess it's one of those things so
[664.83] NJ: Seth one of the other things I wanted to ask you it's really nice to see in your your videos
[669.63] NJ: which I don't often see in a lot of other review videos you do
[673.03] NJ: you know your your great line of sight flyer and
[676.91] NJ: You know, that's one of the things that for me I used to fly 3d helicopters
[681.23] NJ: Which is obviously all line of sight and it's been so long since I've done it now
[684.55] NJ: But I think my line of sight actually sucks pretty bad now these days. I spent all my time in in the goggles
[690.55] NJ: I watched you play a hilly
[694.91] NJ: But yeah, I'll notice you
[697.35] NJ: really make a point of doing a good line of sight flight with all of your builds and
[701.67] NJ: Do you specifically spend time practicing that is there a specific draw to line of sight flying that you have because you know?
[708.99] NJ: People comment on it a specific what sorry it can't cut out. Sorry is there
[716.24] NJ: Is that what's the drawer of line of sight flying for you?
[719.48] NJ: Is it is it something that you regularly practice that you want to be as good at doing that as the FPV?
[725.36] NJ: How's your what's your feeling on the line of sight stuff?
[730.45] Seth (RC Addict): I just think it's cool to be able to see it because if you're flying through the goggles
[734.01] Seth (RC Addict): I mean FPV is cool, but to actually see it, you know fly through the air. I think that's definitely like a lot with
[739.89] Seth (RC Addict): 3D helicopters you can you could find FPV, but it's a lot better to fly in line of sight
[744.45] Seth (RC Addict): And it's just on a cool aspect to it. I think yeah, I totally agree
[748.09] NJ: Yeah, absolutely and your your latest line of sight flight with the b-sex was was it looks like that things loaded
[756.61] NJ: And it seems pretty hot. It's like it's gonna
[758.85] NJ: It's gonna be a lot of fun when you do go in the goggles with it
[761.21] NJ: Have you actually flown it FPV yet? I'm sure temptation must have got you
[765.37] Seth (RC Addict): No, I haven't because I've just been so busy with other videos. I was actually just

[779.29] Seth (RC Addict): Did the line of sight flight with the beast here right before?
[783.61] Seth (RC Addict): They're coming on for this and I found them to be really really good

[799.09] Seth (RC Addict): Right. Um, so a little bit slower maybe in the full top end, but these are 2300 kv motors
[804.29] Seth (RC Addict): But they definitely seemed pretty efficient because my battery I didn't I don't have a current meter on this one

[811.69] Seth (RC Addict): Maybe after this but my battery definitely seemed to like them even at four minutes of flying pretty hard there

[862.01] NJ: smashed literally though that it just threw it through

[875.05] Jae: And I suppose if they've had previous factors or something from crash damage
[878.17] Jae: I mean I've lost the whole prop of the cyclones recently, but only after I've knocked it a few times
[882.77] Jae: But yeah, I don't know I'm keen to try some of these here, but yeah, I've heard similar things as well

[1028.29] Seth (RC Addict): Which is why I'm on Facebook and stuff. I have a fake name, but
[1032.25] Seth (RC Addict): Definitely this summer I do I joined a couple multi GP chapters a couple hours away

[1040.69] Seth (RC Addict): Race or even just go to meetups this year
[1045.57] Jae: We're quite lucky I suppose the UK it's such a small country full of lots of people that most people do get that but I
[1051.09] Jae: Suppose it's a downside because we don't get the sports to fly as often but on the plus side
[1055.37] Jae: We you know have race events you must have didn't you have the the lovely areas to fly
[1061.01] Jae: With nobody around sort of clear frequencies everything surely yeah
[1066.25] Jae: And I suppose within what was your fear about not telling anyone at school then dude can I have a ghost syndrome or is it?

[1075.69] Seth (RC Addict): I just I don't know if I was only doing like mini quad stuff like I'd probably be okay with it
[1081.69] Seth (RC Addict): And maybe just fpv videos not necessarily reviews, but like the older toy reviews. I don't really
[1087.73] Seth (RC Addict): Like like I wouldn't like to share those. I don't think they're very good

[1095.81] Jae: Most from what I've learned is most people see anything that flies is something cool
[1100.37] Jae: No goddess of size or how it came in and people will spend good money on rubbish
[1104.01] Jae: How are the copters and rubbish toy things that they get from shops of like one channel?
[1108.29] Jae: You know so people generally love things that fly so that's what I'd say, but I guess maybe it's different over there
[1116.05] NJ: Yeah, so what what I'll see stuff were you into before the quad copters came along said

[1123.21] Seth (RC Addict): Basically just toy quad as I start once I started out helicopters
[1126.89] Seth (RC Addict): But I kind of when I was building my channel a little bit more in the beginning
[1130.97] Seth (RC Addict): I tried to get like a car a plane quad just try to bear free stuff, so I had more
[1137.69] Seth (RC Addict): Spanning there, but then it basically was just all toy quads
[1141.01] Seth (RC Addict): And then I built the ZMR 250 and then I flew that and it was immediately much better than anything I've ever flown
[1147.85] Seth (RC Addict): So I just built up from there basically and now I'm pretty much not taking any toy stuff anymore. Just all hobby green
[1156.37] NJ: Yeah, that's that's a very good shout
[1159.65] NJ: I'm kind of the same in terms of just trying to pick
[1162.89] NJ: Because you know I'm sure you're the same you get sent a lot of links of stuff that these companies want to promote
[1169.49] NJ: And it's you got to make sure that what you receive is something. That's going to be
[1175.85] NJ: It's going to be good content for your subscribers. You don't want to be putting them
[1180.73] NJ: Stuff up there just for the sake of advertisements. Yeah, yeah, I don't think that's that's necessarily the way to go
[1186.97] NJ: What have you got coming up on your channels or anything interesting?
[1189.97] NJ: You've got coming in for review that you're excited about reviewing

[1195.97] Seth (RC Addict): Got new ESCs for the holy brochure connects one because mine kept having y'all twitches and desyncs
[1202.53] Seth (RC Addict): um so they came out with a new ESC that I
[1205.69] Seth (RC Addict): they sent for me to put it on because I know a lot of people were having the issues with it and
[1210.69] Seth (RC Addict): Testing those out maybe tomorrow
[1213.57] Seth (RC Addict): To see if they fix the issue
[1216.41] NJ: Okay, that's interesting and they they acknowledged. It was a an ESC problem as opposed to
[1222.05] NJ: Anything else
[1224.45] Seth (RC Addict): Yeah, because it uses the Raptor or the I think fly color Raptor 30 amp and they said it had some firmware issue
[1232.97] Seth (RC Addict): Right got you, okay, that'll be interesting

[1238.37] NJ: Well, I got this today in the post, but I did a review on the
[1242.85] NJ: UB 130 as I'm massively into my 130s now and
[1247.81] NJ: One of the I actually got sent some spares for this and this is actually quite a cool little combination here
[1255.73] NJ: That comes with this. It's an SPF 3 that are rebranded by well assembled by awesome
[1262.85] NJ: And it's it's got the VTX
[1266.33] NJ: built into
[1268.25] NJ: Where is it? Yeah, the VTX is built into the seat on the other side onto the flight controller
[1275.81] NJ: so you end up getting a a
[1279.21] NJ: Little sma to to put on that and then it direct connects to this guy, which is a BL Heli s
[1288.09] NJ: 20 amp by 4
[1290.41] NJ: Which is a really nice little package for a 130
[1294.81] NJ: So yeah, that's I'm quite excited to to load that up
[1297.85] NJ: I'm I think this is going to be the future now these combination boards
[1302.33] NJ: seeing more and more stuff just coming out like that and it just keeps the deck nice and low and
[1307.73] NJ: Keeps all the wiring a bit simpler. So tidy. Yeah, and there's a lot to be said for it
[1313.33] NJ: I think you know gives you more space in there you can
[1317.01] NJ: Just get either way a knee to build so I think that's probably the way forward
[1321.89] Jae: You know every time that Bing goes off a quad dies and Jay
