====================================

This is an edit since the live broadcast broke halfway through :D

Those live stream gremlins!

[0.0] Jae: I need to go and get a beer.
[2.0] Jae: Well, well, I do believe we might be live.
[4.72] Jae: So welcome everybody to the like this.
[7.16] Jae: Let's join out on Thursday, the 23rd of March.
[10.76] Jae: It's the last one of GMT for us until next year
[15.56] Jae: or the end of this year, as in we get our British summertime back
[18.04] Jae: very shortly, this Sunday, in fact, meaning instantly from Sunday,
[21.72] Jae: we have good weather, sunshine, no wind, no rain, no snow, hail.
[26.52] Jae: Yeah, yeah, I mean, it's definite.
[27.6] Jae: It's just it's like clockwork in this country.
[30.0] Jae: So we are lucky.
[31.8] Jae: Yeah, this week we're joined by the NJ Tech, a night owl,
[36.0] Jae: if I ever did know one, who's flying around at night these nights.
[39.64] Jae: I think I've seen you, sir.
[40.76] NJ: So yes, yes.
[42.8] NJ: Lots of fun. Lots of fun in the evening.
[45.08] NJ: A true night owl.
[46.8] Jae: We've got Tony, the CIA.
[49.68] Jae: Onshore.
[50.88] Jae: There is a point on that, actually, that I'll have to get to later
[53.2] Jae: about flying at night and the fears of what these cameras enable.
[56.68] Jae: But welcome, Tony.
[58.76] Jae: Hi, how are you doing?
[60.92] Tony: Yeah, good. Thank you.
[62.12] Jae: Yeah, it's good to have you back.
[62.92] Jae: You sounded really good this week last week.
[64.24] Jae: You're a bit quiet.
[65.0] Jae: But this week is sounding good.
[66.32] Jae: Is this a new mic or something?
[68.72] Tony: Well, I've had it a long time.
[70.0] Tony: I just haven't used it properly.
[73.8] Jae: Well, we'll try it out this week then.
[75.16] Jae: And somebody who has been off on adventures all over the country
[77.88] Jae: and all over the world,
[79.64] Jae: book fairs and all sorts, I believe, Mr.
[81.56] Jae: Adam Juniper. Hello, Adam.
[84.56] NJ: He's now rejoining us. There he is.
[87.24] Adam: Perfect timing, you know.
[88.56] Adam: Isn't that magic?
[90.8] Adam: My Mac decided that it was exactly the right time
[94.28] Adam: to install the new version of the software.
[97.92] Jae: Oh, well, last week we had quads being killed by message tones.
[102.6] Jae: So this week we might have your MacBook giving us grief.
[105.68] Jae: But hey, it's part of the show.
[107.0] Jae: This is the Let's Show now.
[108.8] Jae: Yeah, so all four software updates here.
[111.64] Jae: Just maybe not right.
[113.52] Jae: So, Adam, I do believe that you've been playing with some expensive drones
[116.84] Jae: again, yet again.
[118.56] Jae: What have you been up to?
[120.84] Adam: Well, what I did was hide for a long time and play with books.
[124.64] Adam: Everyone loves books.
[127.6] Adam: They're a bit outdated this day and age, I think, actually.
[129.8] Jae: But yeah, everyone still loves books.
[131.32] Adam: Some of them were e-books, if that helps.
[134.52] Adam: Because in my line of work, we have two things.
[136.72] Adam: We have the London Book Fair, which is massive,
[139.92] Adam: and then the Fog Photography Show.
[141.72] Adam: And the one happens immediately before the other.
[143.92] Adam: And I have an annoying amount of prep to do, but for both.
[146.4] Adam: So I sort of hid for a bit.
[147.88] Adam: And that's where I've been when I've not been here.
[152.2] Adam: So at the Book Show, I talked about books for a bit.
[158.48] Jae: Was this promoting your own book, by any chance?
[161.24] Adam: No, well, mine's long and out there and very much past news
[165.28] Adam: as far as the industry is concerned.
[167.84] Adam: No, I'm chatting up bookstores, persuading them to host upcoming books from
[172.96] Adam: ILEXpress.
[175.68] Adam: We're going to be doing some cool tech stuff,
[177.44] Adam: as well as the photography list, which we've been doing for ages.
[180.52] Adam: So if any of you feels righty, you know, let me know.
[184.16] Jae: Oh, good update. Good.
[186.8] Jae: Yeah. How did they get in touch with you?
[188.36] Adam: And if they do feel a bit righty, go to ILEXpress.
[193.92] Adam: Google it. We change the website every week.
[197.08] Jae: Is that because you have a closing down sale and restart or what?
[199.72] Jae: Why do you change it every?
[201.4] Adam: I don't know. It's just not long ago, I decided it was cooler if it was
[206.0] Adam: ILEX.press without any comm or anything like that.
[211.92] Adam: Which was it?
[213.4] Jae: I'm not sure, but it's done now.
[215.88] Jae: All right. So if they want to write for this drone book, then,
[217.72] Jae: because it is related, they can get in touch with that website,
[220.84] Jae: which you can put if you're on the chat, it might be good to put in the chat.
[223.8] Jae: I'm not sure.
[226.84] Jae: Well, yeah. Yeah.
[229.24] Jae: I mean, I've been finding we've been making
[231.24] Jae: some homemade gates in the woods actually recently.
[234.16] Jae: And it's been quite fun.
[236.04] Jae: Electric gates, like magic countergates or just like,
[240.72] Jae: you know, when you scrape your pennies,
[242.04] Jae: you know, when you scrape your pennies together
[243.4] Jae: because you keep on destroying gates or you destroy the ones.
[246.48] Jae: And actually, they turned out pretty good.
[249.0] Jae: But yeah, so this week, I mean,
[252.36] Jae: it's just a shame that I've had so many issues with my quad
[254.44] Jae: and the weather's starting to turn, but at least now it's getting better.
[258.96] Adam: But it has been miserable, hasn't it?
[261.48] Adam: Like, really surprisingly miserable for a really, really long time.
[266.44] Jae: No, well, it's winter in the UK.
[272.24] Jae: Yeah. But actually, I'm looking forward to this year.
[275.04] Jae: And obviously, there's a few things yet to be determined with shows.
[278.96] Jae: But one show that was at one place that's opened up this this time around,
[282.8] Jae: I think for a permanent FPV venue is a place in Nottingham.
[285.52] Jae: And I'm really excited about getting up there.
[288.6] Jae: Yeah, I thought you would have been there already.
[291.16] Tony: No, not yet. It's too far.
[293.2] Tony: It's a long way. It's like a three hour drive or something.
[296.84] Jae: Why don't you fly?
[300.96] Jae: East Midlands Airport.
[303.28] Jae: Gatwick to East Midlands. Yeah, yeah.
[306.4] Tony: Yeah, I would like to do that.
[308.88] NJ: But Gatwick to East Midlands sounds like the hell in the world.
[314.8] NJ: It's your dream. It's your dream trip.
[317.32] Tony: And I can't really fly.
[320.16] Tony: I can't fly indoors very well.
[321.76] Tony: I don't know what it is, man.
[322.88] Tony: But just indoors.
[324.32] Adam: I don't think Gatwick to the East Midlands is technically outdoor outdoor.
[328.32] Jae: And I don't think you have to fly the plane.
[329.96] Jae: I think they fly it for you.
[331.84] Tony: You know what I mean.
[334.08] Jae: I mean, what sort of issues do you find when you're flying indoors?
[336.36] Jae: Is it the multi-power thing or is it just the fear that you're going to smash every quad?
[341.16] Tony: No, I don't care about the quads.
[342.96] Tony: It's not being able to see.
[344.96] Tony: I mean, I watched Gary Kent's video and he was blindingly fast.
[348.88] Tony: But the just the breakup of his video and it's like you've got to
[354.16] Tony: I know he does it.
[355.0] Tony: He guesses the next corner and stuff.
[357.92] NJ: This is why Clearview needs to come down in price.
[361.24] NJ: Everyone needs a Clearview.
[362.76] NJ: They're astonishing for that kind of thing.
[364.56] NJ: I definitely it's on my list.
[366.92] NJ: Maybe at some point I'll get to it.
[369.72] Tony: Well, I think Neil from iDrone is going to order some on Monday.
[374.16] Tony: I think if you private message him.
[377.04] NJ: Yeah, I saw Neil post that he was going to going to bring a few in.
[381.4] NJ: Maybe I might be able to bend his arm to borrow one for testing.
[384.08] NJ: But, you know, everything I'm hearing about that thing is awesome.
[387.12] NJ: So I definitely want to have a go.
[389.2] Jae: You do know what that means, though, don't you?
[390.56] Jae: I'm going to change my channel to Fat Shark One.
[392.64] Jae: So second, I was like, oh, can I just buy a receiver while you're not applying?
[396.44] NJ: Yeah, I think I need to start putting in the manuals.
[398.72] NJ: Fat Shark One is just, you know, specifically my channel.
[401.84] Jae: Just so I don't know, here's a better idea.
[403.56] Jae: Have a coin off braided slot that if they want to plug into a receiver,
[406.12] Jae: they put some two pair of coins in.
[407.88] NJ: Yeah, that's a good idea.
[408.8] Jae: And it'll pay for itself after a summer, maybe.
[413.44] Tony: It looks really good, though.
[415.64] Jae: I haven't seen it in operation in the flesh, so to speak.
[418.24] Jae: So I wouldn't mind seeing it.
[419.88] Tony: I haven't seen it in the flesh.
[420.76] Tony: I've just watched back people.
[422.96] Tony: I spoke to metal Danny a couple of days ago and he sent me some videos
[427.12] Tony: and show me some videos of him flying in a car park and it's just crystal all the time.
[432.32] Tony: There's just like no breakup.
[434.56] Tony: And how much money are we talking?
[437.84] Tony: The race edition is 350.
[441.0] Jae: To put it another way, a portion of a kidney,
[442.8] Jae: a measurable portion of a kidney.
[445.52] Tony: And I think the pros about 700.
[448.36] Tony: But I think Benny was using the race edition and that's what he lent.
[455.16] Tony: Is it Daniel Peters who won?
[458.8] Tony: Oh, it's no idea.
[460.0] Tony: I can't remember his name.
[462.16] Jae: I'm not entirely sure who he won.
[463.92] Jae: I don't think I can get the results, but I only saw it.
[466.76] Jae: And actually, you know, the one thing that was a resounding memory in my mind,
[469.8] Jae: if I park my car there, at least my car is not worth anything
[472.08] Jae: to worry about the window being smashed.
[473.48] Jae: But yeah, I don't know what sort of neck of the woods is him.
[476.96] Jae: But Benny's mum's car has been stolen and the window smashed.
[481.44] Jae: Hmm, not good.
[482.92] Tony: I thought I thought stereo feed him went out in the night.
[486.2] Jae: I know. They make the hard to steal.
[488.04] Jae: So all they do is they smash the window nowadays as well.
[490.0] Jae: I don't know which is worse.
[491.48] Adam: My car, which I'm about to give up and become a proper Londoner without a car,
[496.32] Adam: but it doesn't have a stereo as such.
[498.48] Adam: There's a bit where discs can go in, but like there's nothing you can take out.
[503.88] NJ: Yes, true.
[504.48] NJ: There's the old module things kind of sort of thin and gone now.
[508.52] NJ: Everything's just sort of built into the dash, isn't it?
[510.68] Adam: That's why Parrot got into making drones, because, you know,
[515.44] Adam: they used to make car stereos and stuff or car bits.
[518.6] NJ: Yeah, I'm sure I've got a Parrot Bluetooth thingy for my car somewhere.
[523.8] Adam: They needed to expand and they clearly had a sense of fun.
[528.08] NJ: A logical step.
[530.0] Adam: Yeah.
[531.88] Jae: Parrot car accessories, really? Wow.
[534.76] Adam: Yeah, yeah, that was what they did before, I think.
[537.56] Jae: AR.
[539.44] Jae: I suppose their name is transferable, Parrot, if it's repeating sound
[542.56] Jae: and Parrot, if it flies in the air.
[544.64] Jae: Yeah, I've never actually flown a Parrot.
[546.96] Jae: Has anyone here flown a Parrot drone at all?
[550.04] Jae: Oh, hello.
[550.84] Jae: Do we have to put our hands up?
[552.2] Jae: Yeah.
[553.2] Jae: Wow.
[553.64] Jae: I'm the only one that hasn't.
[555.76] Jae: Oh, I haven't.
[557.08] Jae: Oh, sorry, Tony.
[559.12] Adam: I also had one of mine smashed up by a child this weekend.
[562.36] Adam: What?
[562.64] Jae: You want a Parrot?
[563.56] Jae: What are your Parrots?
[566.96] Jae: Yeah, but you don't care, because you're single-handedly keeping DJI afloat, I believe.
[571.56] Jae: Haven't you bought something else DJI?
[574.56] Jae: Come on, I'll get to that.
[576.6] Tony: Come on, Adam.
[578.08] Tony: Oh, your minute is up.
[580.36] Tony: Come on.
[582.08] Adam: All right.
[582.8] Adam: I was going to justify myself, but I was up at the photography show
[588.64] Adam: and I was giving a talk on that stuff in the book.
[591.84] Adam: Why people buy drones for...
[593.68] Tony: Was this in Birmingham?
[595.12] Adam: In the NEC in Birmingham.
[596.68] Tony: Okay, my parents weren't there.
[598.76] Adam: Oh, right.
[599.28] Adam: But I don't know if they came to see me or not.
[603.64] Adam: There weren't any blues, so probably not.
[607.4] Adam: Probably not.
[609.28] Adam: And I thought it'd be more fun if we had some people come up and say,
[613.36] Adam: tries to fly and land a Parrot.
[616.44] Adam: I put a copy of my book, like 15 metres away,
[619.44] Adam: that to take off, fly, land, and whoever landed nearest got to keep it.
[625.92] Adam: And then, yeah, I know what a prize, hey?
[629.24] Adam: And the thing I had lying around from a previous corporate event
[636.92] Adam: was a Parrot bebop.
[639.72] Adam: And I thought, well, you can put the safety things on the side of it.
[643.36] Adam: It's not too expensive and it's big enough that you can see it from a bit of a distance.
[650.48] Adam: So I let this guy do it and he did it very nicely.
[653.52] Adam: And then little kids, oh, I want to go, I want to go.
[655.68] Adam: And he's like nine and he gets up and he flies it smoothly
[660.44] Adam: and he hovers right above the book.
[662.96] Adam: And then he powers it into the wall of the side of the anise,
[666.32] Adam: so they go everywhere.
[670.16] Adam: So, yeah.
[673.72] Jae: Did it make you smile, though?
[674.96] Jae: Or was it fond memories of this thing that you'd?
[677.76] Adam: It actually, I will say this for the thing.
[680.36] Adam: It flew again the next day.
[683.44] Adam: OK, they are the little protected side bits are very well built.
[690.76] Adam: So, you know, because that's what they're for, isn't it?
[693.2] Adam: Having fun with inside and surviving.
[695.96] Adam: They are definitely not for, I can say from experience,
[698.92] Adam: programming to fly around the pier in Brighton with the camera.
[702.64] Adam: So the battery doesn't last that long.
[705.96] Tony: Well, it was light off if you changed it.
[710.2] Adam: How do you mean changed it?
[711.56] Tony: Well, the story was that you do it for a while and didn't change it.
[716.32] Adam: Two batteries. Yeah, I should have put the bat. Yeah.
[720.6] Adam: If I remember there are anyway, what
[725.28] Adam: what Jay's trying to point out is, you know, to make myself feel better
[729.68] Adam: on my way back, I'd like to accidentally spend some money at the DJI stand
[733.92] Adam: because there was one DJI drone I don't have yet.
[737.32] Adam: Got to catch them all.
[739.24] Jae: Yeah. And that was little foldable little map, little Mavic,
[744.28] Jae: the one that you put into a little cop by your bed every night and stroke.
[750.36] Jae: Mind you, it was voted.
[751.48] Jae: It was voted the best consumer slash even semi pro drone,
[755.96] Jae: I guess for its size, portability and it's well, that's what I was thinking.
[759.2] Adam: I'm getting rid of the car.
[760.84] Adam: It's not easy to move around some of the other stuff.
[763.64] Jae: Not that you'll be able to fly in London anywhere soon anyway, probably.
[767.56] Adam: But yeah, that's a good point.
[769.52] Adam: There's stuff going on today, isn't there?
[772.68] Jae: Well, all over the time, I think, but if you know the parrot,
[776.44] Jae: I think that wasn't the first drone to actually get skyjacked,
[779.0] Jae: as in someone showed how you could take over a parrot
[782.0] Jae: whilst it was in flight and you'd lose control.
[785.08] Adam: It's probably pretty easy.
[786.36] Adam: It's a Wi-Fi, isn't it?
[788.12] Adam: So I bet you could do it.
[789.88] Adam: There's probably an app for that.
[791.68] Jae: The thing is, and actually,
[793.4] Jae: and you might know about this, Tony and I were talking the other day
[795.6] Jae: about this new feature to be able to adjust your pits in flight
[799.04] Jae: over one of your spare channels.
[802.12] Jae: And this this raises problems.
[803.68] Jae: If you're going to start like changing the actual software
[807.4] Jae: or changing a quad of how it flies and what it does and everything like that,
[810.64] Jae: surely this needs to be starting to be encrypted on the traffic.
[815.2] NJ: Well, it kind of it kind of is anyway.
[818.16] NJ: I mean, the way the spectrum's work, well, the spectrum system work with the SMX
[823.68] NJ: and how the FOS guy stuff works, they're always channel hopping
[827.24] NJ: and they've got a very bulletproof link between the two.
[830.2] NJ: So it's just using the same with the telemetry link as well using export.
[836.24] NJ: It's all running down that system.
[837.92] NJ: So I don't think that's under any threat, to be honest with you.
[841.56] NJ: Well, you can get many, many pilots up in the air at once
[845.64] NJ: without any any kind of problems or interference,
[848.0] NJ: whether it's targeted maliciously by some very clever programmers
[853.28] NJ: to then I don't think the hobby or anything in this side of it is
[858.8] NJ: any kind of feasible target for for any group to take the time to do that,
[863.04] NJ: to be honest with you, right now.
[864.72] NJ: But, you know, if they start putting Skynet style gun drones into the air,
[868.72] NJ: you know, there are malicious people that might think, well, we could do
[871.64] NJ: we could do things with that.
[873.24] NJ: But I don't think we have to worry too much.
[876.68] Jae: Well, I know the US government said that they're going to skyrocket part
[880.56] Jae: and their pun in 2021, they're expecting three point six million drones,
[885.76] Jae: which is up one point one.
[887.24] Jae: So we're three times as many as this year expected to be flying.
[891.4] Jae: And interestingly, last year they had six hundred and seventy thousand
[894.76] Jae: registrations through the FAA.
[896.28] Jae: So I suppose at some point they're getting more mainstream to that point
[899.28] Jae: and exploits and things, you know, they are going to start taking over
[903.56] Jae: more services, I suppose, and the biggest threat would be a flying car
[906.56] Jae: or flying quad that carries people and they may be targeted.
[910.2] Jae: Yeah, I mean, the resilience of the systems is always one thing,
[913.4] Jae: but there are going to be other threats, I think, on that one.
[916.36] Adam: I can never really tell with the future, you know, where the idea is that we'll
[920.04] Adam: just end up sat in one place while drones and robots bring stuff to us.
[924.72] Adam: And we never know. Is that what you want?
[926.88] Adam: Or the other one where, you know, there are going to be amazing little
[930.56] Adam: personal transport devices that get us everywhere without, you know,
[934.24] Adam: the need for airlines or trains or anything annoying like that.
[937.56] Tony: Yeah.
[938.16] Tony: I just worry about Skynet taking over.
[940.8] Adam: Well, that's inevitable anyway.
[942.36] Jae: But I think the number one fear that people have at the moment is spying,
[945.2] Jae: isn't it? Like if I'm flying at that, the number one issue that people have
[948.52] Jae: with FPV in general is, oh, you're going to spoil, you spoil with it and stuff.
[951.72] Jae: And even if they say it quite frequently, that's the thing that the two things
[957.0] Adam: I always include when I when I'm asked to talk about it, you know, the what
[960.6] Adam: if I if I don't, I'll get asked at the end.
[964.84] Adam: Do people use them for spying and will it crash a jet?
[968.32] NJ: Absolutely. Those are the two things.
[969.92] NJ: I completely agree that there's the media side of it, which says
[973.84] NJ: the buzz wording it and trying to make it a scary thing.
[976.2] NJ: That's the jet side.
[977.44] NJ: And then there's the people that don't understand it and don't know
[979.8] NJ: what you're doing and paranoid side of it, which then go, will he using it
[983.12] NJ: to look at look at me whilst I play just dance in my living room?
[988.64] Adam: So that's that's you, obviously.
[992.88] NJ: There's purely purely an idea of throwing out there.
[996.08] NJ: You could be doing anything, of course.
[997.44] NJ: But I wasn't there a video on Richard's channel, that HPI guy
[1002.72] NJ: where someone came over and did exactly that, came over and kicked off
[1005.68] NJ: and said, you could be spying on me.
[1006.92] NJ: And although, you know, it really got Richard's back up.
[1010.16] NJ: And I can understand why.
[1012.12] NJ: I mean, I've had people approach before.
[1013.76] NJ: It's that thing of you've got to be an educator.
[1016.28] NJ: You've got to always keep, you know, normally keep a screen with me
[1020.2] NJ: so that I can show people the minute you show people, look, this is what I'm seeing.
[1024.8] NJ: But it just, you know, they look their face lights up and they think it's amazing.
[1028.52] NJ: But that's part of the responsibility of us as a group of, you know,
[1033.16] NJ: enthusiasts and hobbyists that we've got to educate people
[1036.84] NJ: that that are coming into the hobby because it's growing exponentially
[1041.28] NJ: and make sure it stays safe.
[1043.04] Adam: Despite these big figures, I wouldn't make up a nerd back in like 2014.
[1047.24] Adam: Wasn't there? Oh, was there?
[1049.0] Adam: Why me? Yeah, like he was somewhere on a beach.
[1053.44] Adam: And he was, you know, he wasn't actually at fault, I don't think.
[1057.4] Adam: But he just got basically.
[1059.52] Adam: And it was it was actually quite funny, although, I mean, terrible.
[1063.16] Adam: No, you know, awful.
[1064.88] Adam: The thing I always try and do is point out mobile is point out the cameras.
[1068.92] Adam: I mean, unless you've got fancy equipment with you,
[1072.08] Adam: the cameras are very much like mobile phone cameras.
[1074.28] Adam: You're like four meters away from someone. You can barely see them.
[1077.52] Adam: But that's changed something.
[1078.72] Adam: That's something people really understand, that whole wide angle lens thing.
[1082.44] Adam: I know, I know, Jay, it's not going to last.
[1085.32] Jae: But the other thing is, right, is nowadays we can actually buy things
[1087.96] Jae: that allow you to see mostly in pitch blackness.
[1090.0] Jae: So if people start picking up wind of these, you know, owl cameras and whatnot,
[1095.88] Jae: then that is another aspect to it.
[1097.84] Jae: But to be honest, it means more fun for us.
[1100.36] Jae: Yeah. And why do we want to? Why would we want?
[1103.92] Jae: That is what you mean.
[1105.28] Adam: No, why do we want to spy on people?
[1108.24] Adam: You know, why not?
[1109.08] Adam: You know, we've got a duty to do to uphold for our national interest.
[1111.92] Adam: Oh, yeah. Now, I say spying, spying on people could be considered.
[1116.96] Jae: But you see, there is now.
[1118.28] Jae: I mean, this week they announced a 24 hour, 24 hour day, seven day week
[1122.04] Jae: this drone unit in Cornwall, I think it is Somerset region.
[1125.52] Jae: Yeah. Does that mean does that mean they're on call?
[1128.52] Jae: Or does that mean they've got a lot of batteries?
[1131.28] Jae: No, I think I don't think they're going to fly constantly.
[1133.56] Jae: But I think they'll have, you know, they have the deployment
[1137.16] Jae: ready to go for anything for, I guess, search and rescue.
[1140.36] Jae: Maybe the police are going to become search and rescue as well as police
[1143.92] Jae: because all the firefighters, you see, the thing is,
[1146.64] Jae: the emergency services are starting to employ them.
[1148.72] Jae: And so that's the point where people probably have a vested interest
[1151.52] Jae: in over the security of it.
[1153.72] Jae: And, yeah, interestingly.
[1159.36] Adam: So I'm trying to find a video of that.
[1162.04] Jae: Oh, the yes, it's some young kid, but he he she called the police on him,
[1166.32] Jae: didn't she, even though she's beating him up. Yeah. And
[1171.0] Jae: on his iPhone, it's a drone.
[1173.44] Jae: Tasted in the chat. Are you in the chat?
[1176.52] Jae: By the way, we've got to say some heights to some of our regulars
[1178.72] Jae: that always come into the chat room.
[1179.76] Jae: And if you just post in the country you're from,
[1182.16] Jae: we can see how far around the world we're actually getting.
[1184.36] Jae: So hello to Stryker FPV.
[1186.64] Jae: Chris is Clegga.
[1190.96] Jae: Yeah, it's it's good to see people coming in.
[1192.68] Jae: And there's a few more, but we'll give a shout out.
[1194.72] Jae: If you've got any questions as well, pop them in there
[1196.72] Jae: and we'll see if we can answer them.
[1200.78] Adam: That's a difficult.
[1202.98] Jae: So regardless of the privacy issue,
[1205.58] Jae: I actually had my first option to witness some of these low light level cameras.
[1209.18] Jae: And I was blown away at the 1177 and some others.
[1215.82] Jae: And you were you were the one that tinkered with these
[1218.78] Jae: to get them onto flying machines.
[1220.5] Jae: Do you want to tell us a bit more about your findings
[1222.26] Jae: of these wonderful cameras?
[1224.18] Tony: Good video that I enjoyed that.
[1225.98] NJ: Yeah, cheers.
[1226.82] NJ: No, it was it was a fun thing to do.
[1229.3] NJ: It was the I was asked to have a look at a couple of rung cam bits and pieces.
[1234.3] NJ: So I just sort of looked through what there was.
[1236.78] NJ: And it was because recently we went and did that little night flight
[1240.46] NJ: with the LED gates and stuff.
[1242.14] NJ: And everyone just took their regular equipment down.
[1244.3] NJ: And we soon found out that, you know, some of our quads were
[1248.18] NJ: where we're handling the low light situation OK.
[1251.54] NJ: And some of them were just, you know, with the IR blocking on the the lens
[1255.86] NJ: were really suffering and you just couldn't see anything.
[1258.9] NJ: And interestingly, in that that that test we did because we we looked at three,
[1262.62] NJ: we did my standard HS 1177 with the IR blocking.
[1267.38] NJ: We looked at a owl plus rung cam and rung cam night eagle.
[1274.26] NJ: And the standard 1177 you could
[1279.02] NJ: you could see at night under street lighting, but that's all you could see.
[1283.74] NJ: And the problem is, as soon as you start against the darker areas,
[1286.66] NJ: is your inability to see the ground.
[1288.34] NJ: And that is the ground and the horizon.
[1290.9] NJ: And without those reference points, it becomes it's like flying in space.
[1295.06] NJ: You know, not that I've got that to reference to, but you get what I'm saying.
[1298.22] NJ: It's that whole thing of not being quite sure how far you are from the ground.
[1302.22] NJ: And it's just very uncomfortable to do.
[1304.86] NJ: But the the owl plus
[1308.14] NJ: and especially the night eagle were were pretty phenomenal
[1312.46] NJ: in terms of their their low light performance.
[1315.02] NJ: You know, they really do light up the ground nicely.
[1317.38] NJ: And the owl plus I had on my little 130.
[1320.62] NJ: And you'll see in the video that I put up,
[1323.18] NJ: the second I got on the 130 and the owl plus after flying the 1177,
[1328.74] NJ: it was immediately started, you know, flipping, looping, rolling, having fun.
[1332.94] NJ: You know, it immediately had that comfort level.
[1335.86] NJ: And one of one of my comments has made a good point.
[1338.14] NJ: Actually, they said they live out in Thailand and they said during the day,
[1342.18] NJ: there's such a bad mosquito problem.
[1344.86] NJ: Most people don't want to be, you know, in goggles with their hands tied up
[1348.7] NJ: with a million mosquitoes landing on them. Of course, you can't swap them off.
[1351.86] NJ: Yeah. Yeah. So they said, you know, flying very early in the morning
[1355.1] NJ: or in the evenings, actually, they're the time when everyone tends to go out
[1359.06] NJ: and do most of their FPV stuff.
[1361.3] NJ: So that was quite interesting.
[1362.3] NJ: So they said the owl and the the owl plus and the night eagle,
[1365.62] NJ: these these style of cameras are actually far more popular out in those areas.
[1370.38] NJ: But I really enjoyed it.
[1372.46] NJ: You know, often the wind is a lot calmer in the evening.
[1375.26] NJ: You know, all the thermal activity disappears and yeah,
[1378.18] NJ: often find things calm down a bit.
[1379.74] NJ: So it's often very favorable flight conditions.
[1382.94] NJ: The air temperature cools a little bit.
[1385.58] NJ: So it's it's I can see why there are pros for doing it.
[1390.54] Adam: The only thing I found out, like, would it be possible to take a much bigger
[1395.7] Adam: drone and use it to chop up lots of mosquitoes?
[1402.1] NJ: You can find those in the electrifying.
[1403.82] NJ: You see the electrifying, sweaty things.
[1405.78] Jae: Yeah. Yeah. You could make a lot of money that way.
[1408.06] Jae: I think you need millions of tiny ones to chase them down.
[1411.02] Jae: It's a make them FPV.
[1413.54] Adam: Little little Star Wars.
[1415.34] Adam: You know, I wouldn't allow that, would you?
[1418.5] Adam: You have to gamify it.
[1420.14] Adam: Oh, yeah, of course. Yeah.
[1422.18] Adam: How many is being nice to.
[1423.82] Adam: Until you get malaria.
[1426.78] Tony: But the best thing you should do against mosquitoes is where
[1432.26] Tony: is get cheapest mouthwash.
[1434.3] Tony: You could ever get it.
[1435.66] Tony: Just drench yourself in cheap mouthwash.
[1437.74] Tony: And you'll never get bit every day.
[1439.74] Tony: Well, that is my hillbilly.
[1443.3] Tony: That's my hillbilly tip for summer night flight.
[1446.78] Adam: Does it drive like most hillbillies, your teeth will be great as well.
[1449.82] Adam: If you've got all that florida.
[1452.58] Jae: Amazing. Oh, excellent.
[1455.86] Jae: Yeah. Well, clicker eyes, actually.
[1458.14] Jae: And, Jay, have you actually flown any of them in the daytime yet?
[1461.14] Jae: I mean, you've had all day to date.
[1464.14] NJ: No, I've I'll I'll tell you what I've been doing today, actually, in a minute.
[1468.38] NJ: But that will be my next test because it'll be interesting to see
[1472.74] NJ: that the night owl, the night owl, God, I get these names confused, right?
[1476.34] NJ: The night eagle is the one with the best night performance.
[1479.38] NJ: And that one is black and white only.
[1481.46] NJ: So I'd be interested to see whether that really blows out in the day
[1484.34] NJ: or whether the whether it's still flyable in the day.
[1487.38] NJ: The owl plus is a full color camera.
[1490.22] NJ: So that's the one I'm really interested in.
[1492.82] NJ: I think from what I've my understanding of the owl plus,
[1497.1] NJ: it's not quite as pretty as an I.R.
[1499.02] NJ: Blocked HS 11 7 7 during the day.
[1502.38] NJ: But it's still very good.
[1504.14] NJ: The color, the color palette is great as well.
[1506.86] NJ: It's really natural colors.
[1508.5] NJ: Is it CCD or CMOS?
[1511.46] NJ: You know what? I don't know the answer to that.
[1512.74] NJ: It's no, it's not CMOS.
[1514.06] NJ: I think it is. Right.
[1515.46] NJ: One of them is is CMOS, though.
[1517.66] NJ: But I think the thing with the owl plus is, as I said,
[1519.7] NJ: it's not quite as pretty in the day as a standard 11 7 7.
[1524.86] NJ: So it's a little bit less.
[1525.9] NJ: But then it's got a much wider envelope that it can go way past
[1529.1] NJ: the low light levels that would normally knock out.
[1531.62] Tony: You know, that's the one you're going to want on your quad
[1534.42] Tony: where you fly in late evening and then you can carry on.
[1537.74] Tony: That's the one that will cover the longest in the day and the night.
[1541.38] NJ: Like when we've been up at Hidden Valley in those summer nights
[1544.18] NJ: and it's just, you know, twilight and it's just starting to kick in
[1547.54] NJ: and everyone's coming down.
[1548.9] NJ: With this, you could quite easily keep going for another three or four hours.
[1552.98] NJ: So I think that is and for the price, the other thing with the night,
[1557.86] NJ: the night eagle is is an expensive camera.
[1561.98] NJ: You do have to pay for that real low, low light sensitivity.
[1569.02] NJ: So the owl for me, the owl plus is the one at the minute.
[1571.22] NJ: I'm very impressed with that.
[1572.26] NJ: But I have some more more on the way and some foxier alternatives.
[1575.9] NJ: So, yeah, I'm going to going to try them all now.
[1578.18] Jae: I think flying daytime black and white, it's doable.
[1581.34] Jae: But, yeah, it's pretty much kids of the generation of color TV, aren't we?
[1586.82] Jae: So we're not used to this black and white malarkey.
[1592.02] NJ: Yeah, indeedy.
[1594.38] NJ: Yeah, no, I've really enjoyed doing the night the night fly stuff.
[1598.1] NJ: So, yeah, I'm going to leave the owl in the little one thirty and yeah.
[1603.14] Jae: You know, one of the tests you need to do is in Midsummer in the UK
[1605.86] Jae: where it's pretty much light or even up in Scotland.
[1608.78] Jae: Where strikers, they might help you out.
[1610.58] Jae: You see if you can fly on a HSC 1177 all night through.
[1613.78] Jae: Well, you might have to go to Norway where you're going to have permanent daylight.
[1616.18] Jae: But maybe that's the other answer.
[1618.7] Jae: You move to somewhere where you don't get any nighttime.
[1621.02] Tony: Yeah, but it just be raining.
[1625.26] Jae: Oh, come on.
[1625.9] Jae: Yeah, for the pessimist, Tony.
[1628.54] Tony: Yeah, it's always raining.
[1630.3] Tony: I've got FPV buddies up there.
[1632.18] Tony: Oh, we're not even out. It's raining.
[1634.3] Jae: Actually, no, I tell you one thing.
[1635.74] Jae: I've I've had most of my like for my photographic and video video flights
[1641.86] Jae: in Scotland to have a beautiful weather sunshine and the beaches were white.
[1645.1] Jae: And yeah, generally, I've got lovely.
[1648.5] Jae: Yeah, I think it's just like how lucky I am with many trouble.
[1652.94] Jae: Amen. Tony, tell us what you're talking about.
[1655.66] Jae: Yeah, fossil stuff, because fossil stuff have been supporting us for a long time.
[1660.1] Jae: And actually, we really appreciate Martin and fossil stuff.
[1663.14] Tony: Yeah, I just wanted to say thanks to him because he's been a patron for a long time.
[1667.54] Tony: Helping us out.
[1668.3] Tony: So I just want to say thanks, Martin and fossil stuff for keeping us going
[1672.66] Tony: because the editing costs the most to get us on the podcast.
[1679.14] Adam: You were saying that the fossil stuff is also still a good place to go
[1682.54] Adam: to get very solid 180, you know.
[1685.82] Jae: Well, well, what I was saying was actually that they still have the original options
[1689.74] Jae: of the bomb proof ones for new flyers, which I think a lot of people
[1692.82] Adam: have been on the best race to use right now.
[1697.46] Jae: Hey, look, look, we have to just learn to accept terms like bomb proof.
[1701.82] Adam: Fair enough.
[1702.94] Jae: Yeah. Yeah. Car proof.
[1704.98] Jae: That's another thing altogether.
[1706.94] Jae: Yeah. But yeah, no, no.
[1708.06] Jae: And well, the new Revo frame, I really like the design.
[1710.66] Jae: And it's good to actually support because we're in the UK, a UK company
[1714.46] Jae: that's making frames because or too often we look overseas, I think.
[1717.74] Jae: So thank you, Martin, for keeping that strain out on the air.
[1721.74] NJ: Yes. And on that note, I do have a review video of the Revo,
[1726.38] NJ: which I shall be posting very shortly with my thoughts on it.
[1731.3] NJ: But yeah, looking forward to building into that thing.
[1734.02] Tony: Do you know if you're putting
[1736.58] Tony: what what what are you doing with it?
[1738.58] Tony: What what what build?
[1739.9] Tony: What are you see is on the arm or are you going to keep them inside?
[1743.02] NJ: That's what I'm I'm going to try and keep everything
[1746.18] NJ: as internal as possible, try and keep those arms as transparent
[1749.9] NJ: as possible to the airflow, because I want to really see what that effect is like.
[1755.62] NJ: You know, maximize that effect.
[1757.1] NJ: So yeah, and I'll probably go for a 2600
[1760.54] NJ: KV kind of battery killing set up and just
[1764.58] NJ: yeah, see what we get.
[1766.58] Tony: I've just ordered a 2600, 26000 KV.
[1770.22] NJ: Yeah, they do.
[1771.06] NJ: They will monster your battery.
[1772.5] NJ: But, you know, for getting raises, you can't.
[1774.7] Jae: You know, I think you should go for the 2750 white edition battery killers,
[1778.74] Jae: the true battery killers.
[1780.3] Jae: I mean, those are the ones that are coming up.
[1782.62] NJ: I've got those coming whenever they're.
[1784.38] NJ: How do you know?
[1785.94] NJ: They will be coming.
[1786.62] NJ: So maybe I'll put those in there.
[1788.54] Tony: I keep seeing pictures of magnets slipping on on all these new VMAX.
[1794.74] NJ: Really? That's not good.
[1795.94] NJ: I mean, that's not an easy thing to fix
[1799.06] NJ: if they have an issue with adhesive.
[1802.14] NJ: It's the problem is
[1804.62] NJ: that the biggest problem that you've got
[1807.06] NJ: is that you risk taking the motors out of balance.
[1811.1] NJ: If you have to be a little bit careful,
[1815.9] NJ: you know, very you don't need a lot of adhesive
[1818.62] NJ: because remember, there's that centrifugal force
[1823.34] NJ: that's pushing those out and into place.
[1824.9] NJ: So it should be fine.
[1826.5] NJ: But yeah, it's not good that if that's happening.
[1828.58] NJ: I mean, EMAX, those original race series motors
[1831.5] NJ: and I had the prototypes on the original race series,
[1833.94] NJ: which were the Reds that were black before they were red.
[1836.94] NJ: If you follow me, they're still they're still good.
[1839.98] NJ: They're still going.
[1841.42] NJ: Yeah, I've got my life out of them.
[1843.82] Tony: All my quads on my bench next to me are all we max red bonds.
[1848.3] Tony: But the first lot, I know they all seem to be fine.
[1851.62] Tony: But my mate Brad, as he adds two or three go,
[1855.78] Tony: I read on a post where a group of lads had 20 motors.
[1860.3] Tony: All the magnets when I've seen pictures of the new white ones
[1863.9] Tony: with the all the three magnets on one.
[1868.62] Tony: So I don't know if it's just.
[1871.14] NJ: Well, I'll pull the bell housing off before I fly it
[1874.1] NJ: and see if there's anything that's a tell for that.
[1877.78] NJ: But that's certainly interesting.
[1880.5] Tony: Yeah, they could be just like over, you know,
[1884.1] Tony: however many thousand, it's only going to be a few.
[1886.5] NJ: So yeah, yeah, it might just be, you know,
[1889.26] NJ: an issue with the production run.
[1890.62] NJ: You know, these things.
[1892.74] NJ: These things do happen.
[1895.46] NJ: You know, the way Max did that, they felt they're the other.
[1898.62] NJ: The other thing they had was that issue with their first run of
[1901.34] NJ: Beale, Helly, Essie, Essie's.
[1903.14] NJ: But I mean, those were rushed to get out when Beale, Helly, Essie
[1905.78] NJ: was like a light turning on and everyone was winning.
[1909.78] NJ: Right. Beale, he's going to be the next big thing.
[1911.66] NJ: He Max were one of the first to get their lightning, he sees out.
[1914.5] NJ: And I had terrible, terrible issues with those which they fixed
[1919.54] NJ: in the, you know, they did a revision update.
[1922.26] NJ: And Joshua actually pointed out, he said,
[1923.9] NJ: this is the price you pay for living on the bleeding edge.
[1926.38] NJ: And, you know, it is if you you want the first version of everything,
[1929.94] NJ: the second it comes out, there is always a chance you're going to
[1932.94] NJ: you're going to be helping with the beta testing as well.
[1937.18] NJ: And then it's usually the one point one version of the item
[1941.7] NJ: that ends up coming out without the problems.
[1944.02] NJ: So, you know, one of those things. Yeah.
[1948.34] Tony: Well, I've just bought my first set of eight and brother hobby.
[1952.3] Tony: Is it returners? I don't know what they're going to be like.
[1955.38] NJ: They're very good motors, very good performance statistics.
[1959.06] NJ: I haven't actually tried or flown a set, but there's overwhelming evidence
[1963.54] NJ: to say that those are a very good motor.
[1966.22] NJ: So I think you'll have a good results with that. Good.
[1971.1] NJ: Yeah, I've also got the the new Cobras
[1974.98] NJ: because Cobra seem like they've been quiet for a little while,
[1977.22] NJ: but Cobra been around a very, very long time.
[1980.7] NJ: You know, some of these there are some of these motor companies
[1982.78] NJ: that really take their time with with releasing new motors.
[1987.02] NJ: And you shouldn't dismiss them just because they're not the
[1990.54] NJ: the flavor of the month.
[1991.94] NJ: But, you know, Cobra have a lot of experience in motor technology
[1997.06] NJ: and and they produce some fantastic motors for good value.
[2000.98] NJ: So their latest ones, which are 20 to seven.
[2004.78] Jae: Yeah, they're doing 2450 and they're doing a 2600 edition.
[2009.06] Jae: That's the mode I'm going to go for the 2450s, I think.
[2011.98] NJ: Yeah, that's my favorite KV that I've got those coming at some point
[2015.34] NJ: to the start. Yeah, really excited to check those out.
[2018.46] NJ: Again, I know a few people I trust that have reported good things
[2022.22] NJ: about those in terms of performance and power.
[2025.7] Tony: Whereas I've got the 2400 F40 on my
[2030.74] Tony: Acro quad. Yeah. Freestyle quad.
[2033.7] Jae: Oh, Tony does Acro Freestyle.
[2035.42] Jae: He heard it here first.
[2036.98] Jae: Actually, I saw you with your freestyle stuff the other day, man.
[2040.54] Tony: But you know, that was that was on a real frame, which is designed
[2044.18] Tony: basically for racing.
[2045.34] Tony: But I think it flies well.
[2047.06] Jae: You know, forget the magnetic pulse switching.
[2051.9] Jae: Tony switched from racing to doing freestyle events and diving through towers.
[2056.22] Jae: And Jay's world now boarding his horizons to potentially think
[2060.14] Jae: racing. And Adam's going to start.
[2063.06] Jae: Adam is going to do his first FVV thing soon.
[2065.18] Jae: So what is happening with the world is getting turned upside down.
[2067.46] Jae: It's not right, is it?
[2068.66] Adam: One of us soon is going to deliver a pizza.
[2070.78] Adam: That's going to be there.
[2071.94] Jae: No, I mean, first we had ordering on the Internet next.
[2075.1] Jae: It's pizza delivery with drone.
[2078.46] Jae: It's only a matter of time.
[2080.38] Adam: Yeah. No, I mean, you can't get him to not politely on the door
[2084.18] Adam: and wait for a tip. That's the problem.
[2086.78] Jae: It's about the thing about motors is actually the other thing is, I mean,
[2090.58] Jae: I think you had the problem with your ZMX motors where sometimes you might fall
[2093.9] Jae: in love with a motor.
[2094.66] Jae: But if you don't buy enough spares when they're actually out, you can find it hard
[2098.06] Jae: to find spares again for the set of motors.
[2100.58] Adam: So yeah, or if you're not one off and put it somewhere sensible
[2104.78] Adam: and then forget where somewhere sensible is.
[2108.7] Jae: Yeah, I mean, the other thing is with the EMAX, I think because there was other
[2112.1] Jae: issues with the standard red bottom S when they some people were saying some
[2117.06] Jae: issues and you wonder if they are so popular from the original time
[2120.34] Jae: around, can they really keep the quality control up for the next batch of runs
[2125.5] Jae: that they do? And are they just going to maximize profit for nothing?
[2129.38] Tony: I think all the motors had problems like Cobra.
[2131.62] Tony: You remember Cobra went bad for, you know, six months and people were just like,
[2136.94] Tony: Cobra done now, that's it.
[2138.98] Tony: And then people were so moaning, but they seem to out their game and come back now
[2143.78] Tony: with some not really nice looking motors.
[2146.54] NJ: I think it's like anything, isn't it?
[2147.82] NJ: You can you can only you test this stuff to a certain length, but then at some
[2151.62] NJ: point you've got to say, let's go for it.
[2153.74] NJ: Let's let's get the production run done while marketing is going on and we'll get
[2158.02] NJ: it out. And at which point you've got stock of a massive amount of motors.
[2160.94] NJ: And if they have some inherent problem,
[2164.3] NJ: you know, that's that's going to be there's there's an element of risk in there.
[2167.58] NJ: It's a costly it can be a very costly thing.
[2171.98] NJ: So, yeah, you know, that's that's just the way things go, I guess.
[2176.34] Jae: Yeah.
[2178.94] Jae: And you've framed, I mean, I've always strike as saying is TSX 200 is his
[2184.3] Jae: current favorite racing frame at the moment.
[2186.58] Jae: And this is the one point I'd like to get to.
[2188.34] Jae: I know UAV Futures changed his favorite frame.
[2190.98] Jae: What's your current favorite frame then, Jay?
[2194.38] Jae: For whatever motors you're putting on, what is your current frame?
[2196.94] NJ: My current favorite frame of the minute, which I'm really working to get perfect
[2202.78] NJ: in every way that I can, is the Beast X.
[2206.62] NJ: That is my just because it's it's there's really, really nice engineering
[2212.46] NJ: ideas that have gone into it.
[2214.1] NJ: And it's a tank and, you know, I've crashed it.
[2218.74] NJ: The first race like video I put up of it on the stock settings.
[2221.7] NJ: I mean, I crashed it a good 60 mile an hour straight into a tree.
[2224.94] NJ: And, yeah, it's just one prop, which I changed out.
[2227.06] NJ: You were there and we went flying again.
[2228.9] NJ: So it's tough, which is great freestyle.
[2232.18] NJ: It's a great way.
[2233.42] NJ: It's like the design layout, like where things are mounted, how it goes together.
[2238.42] NJ: It's just, you know, that that is ticking a lot of boxes for me as a frame.
[2244.14] NJ: But as a freestyle frame for me, you know, if you're a racer or if you do 50
[2250.38] NJ: percent of your time is racing, then you may think there's something more suitable
[2253.58] NJ: for you, you know, it is a it's a very subjective thing.
[2258.18] NJ: So, yeah, but that's my current favorite.
[2261.06] NJ: Beast X. Yeah, it's a good.
[2264.22] Jae: Yeah, see, I know some of you bought a chameleon, a clever, in fact,
[2268.46] Jae: and he's still got his old weaver trying to migrate.
[2271.1] Jae: And I'm just wondering, did you go straight to your Beast X straight away?
[2273.5] Jae: Or is it a love affair that you developed over time?
[2275.78] Jae: Because you've liked your Beast X pretty much from the get go, haven't you?
[2280.94] NJ: Well, the designer Sharon, Sharon Otterskin, he he he'd been sending
[2287.54] NJ: me photos of this, like 3D drawings of this this quad, probably a good six
[2294.26] NJ: months before anything kind of tangible was there to then say, right, here you go.
[2298.74] NJ: This is this is what I'm going to do.
[2300.14] NJ: I want to get I'm going to get five made up.
[2301.94] NJ: I'm going to send you one.
[2303.34] NJ: You know, so I had a bit of time to get excited about it.
[2305.5] NJ: And, you know, and what I saw he was doing, I was just really liking
[2310.9] NJ: the various ideas that he came up with.
[2313.82] NJ: And then in the room, I had the GT2, which which shares some similarities.
[2318.62] NJ: And I just really like that kind of style of frame that seems to suit my style
[2324.38] NJ: and tunes up well and fly as well.
[2329.26] NJ: I'm not really on the on board with the stretch next thing.
[2331.78] NJ: But then again, I'm not a racer.
[2333.1] NJ: That's that's more of a racing thing.
[2335.5] Jae: So the thing is, I find it interesting.
[2337.06] Jae: It brings a tear to my heart when people are selling their QAVRs.
[2340.06] Jae: And I think, oh, wow, I've loved my QAVR for the whole summer.
[2343.5] Jae: Almost a whole year coming up to half a year.
[2345.94] Jae: I've loved it. And it's really grown on me.
[2347.98] Jae: And I don't know if I could ever part with it.
[2349.38] Jae: But I know you've got rid of yours.
[2351.02] Jae: Other people saw those.
[2352.26] Jae: And at what point does a favorite become a I'm going to move on?
[2355.54] Jae: And I don't care about it anymore, because I know people that buy a new frame
[2359.34] Jae: that may fly very differently sometimes don't move back anymore.
[2363.74] NJ: So yeah, I guess it's just evolution of design, isn't it?
[2367.42] Adam: When people have their second children, they just get rid of their first.
[2371.94] Jae: That's true. Yeah, yeah.
[2376.34] NJ: So here is a question.
[2377.82] NJ: There's something that I've got in the post today for a random subject change.
[2381.14] NJ: Who knows who knows what this is?
[2383.34] NJ: Any guesses in the comments?
[2384.98] Tony: I reckon it goes in the terrace.
[2388.38] NJ: That's a very good guess.
[2389.86] NJ: Now, do you know what it is?
[2392.02] NJ: It's something to interface with.
[2394.3] NJ: Well, as the saying goes, I don't know what this is.
[2396.58] NJ: But here comes another one.
[2399.26] NJ: Yeah, this is the broken one.
[2401.3] NJ: And this is the one that's being replaced.
[2403.26] NJ: Yeah, this is the internal XJT module of the terrace.
[2407.82] NJ: For any of you out there that haven't opened up your terrace
[2410.5] NJ: or don't know what this part is, that is the internal module.
[2414.18] NJ: Now, one of the problems.
[2415.78] Adam: What do you do to screw up the first one?
[2417.86] NJ: Well, this is something I don't know because it was while I was traveling in
[2421.34] NJ: Australia and, yeah, one one day out of the 11 or so flights I took
[2427.26] NJ: where everything was going in the hold, more or less.
[2429.06] NJ: The radio was in the hold anyway.
[2431.06] NJ: I just went to fly and I had a range of about 50 meters.
[2433.82] NJ: And I thought, well, that's definitely not right.
[2435.74] NJ: And yeah, the the internal module had had died.
[2439.3] NJ: So I've ordered a new one.
[2441.14] NJ: Now, the the actual risk, the bit that broke this bit here.
[2444.94] NJ: So that is the transmitter.
[2447.3] NJ: This this one on top is that tiny little thing.
[2450.86] NJ: But it is hard soldered on there and it would be an absolute pig to remove.
[2454.58] NJ: And you can't get it on its own.
[2456.86] NJ: That's something they've done, something about with the QX7.
[2459.18] NJ: They've broken this up into more sections
[2461.98] NJ: because you can see this also carries the main communication from the LCD screen.
[2465.86] NJ: There's there's the on the back.
[2467.58] NJ: You've got the USB connection, the SD card.
[2471.22] NJ: There's so much on here.
[2472.58] NJ: And the actual only bit that's gone is this.
[2475.86] NJ: And that's one thing I don't like about the terrace internal design,
[2478.66] NJ: because this is about one third the cost of the whole terrace
[2482.7] NJ: running at around 50 quid.
[2484.22] NJ: So that's one nice thing.
[2486.26] NJ: They changed to the QX7.
[2487.5] NJ: They've broken this up into a few more parts.
[2489.26] NJ: But yeah, I'm going to be
[2491.46] Tony: so do you reckon it was sand or do you reckon it was going through?
[2496.5] Tony: You know, when you have to put stuff through like an X-ray machine,
[2500.06] Tony: would that muck it up?
[2501.82] NJ: Yeah, no, the X-rays won't do anything to electronics.
[2505.34] NJ: They'd have to be they'd have to amp that up to some pretty considerable
[2508.58] Adam: levels of radiation, the throwers and the enthusiasm.
[2512.22] Tony: Yeah. What about sand?
[2513.98] Tony: Because you said you had sand in there.
[2515.66] NJ: I did find some sand on the adhesive of the screen,
[2520.02] NJ: which I posted to Paul over at BMS Web
[2524.02] NJ: just to show him that I did bring back some some Sydney sand with me.
[2528.74] NJ: From us. So I don't think it was that.
[2532.06] NJ: It's a really difficult thing to be able to find out why that happened.
[2535.26] NJ: It's also happened to Bruno Carmo,
[2537.46] NJ: the other guy who I fly a lot with, Carmo FPV.
[2540.3] NJ: Is has happened the only.
[2543.06] NJ: Yeah, it's maybe I mean, the border vision I noticed here.
[2547.46] NJ: Let me just see on the my tyrannis is probably about a year and a half old
[2552.7] NJ: and it's version four.
[2554.86] NJ: See, I've got a version number here.
[2557.62] NJ: So it is version number zero point
[2562.02] NJ: rev zero point four.
[2564.42] NJ: That should a revision of a board shouldn't have zero.
[2567.54] NJ: In front of it, a production version to have one point something zero
[2571.7] NJ: usually means beta. I'm not sure if that should be right.
[2573.62] NJ: But anyway, yeah, zero point four.
[2575.82] NJ: The new one is zero point six.
[2577.5] NJ: And I was having a look. There's a few trace layout changes.
[2579.98] NJ: So it might be that this is
[2583.94] NJ: as the border vision has been updated, they may have fixed a few things on it.
[2587.06] NJ: I don't know difficult to confirm, but you know, things are always changing.
[2590.94] NJ: So you never know.
[2592.14] Jae: And Jay Raymond does ask if these for the original tyrannis or the plus.
[2597.1] NJ: That's for the plus. Yeah, it's 90.
[2599.46] NJ: Yeah, you get it, Raymond.
[2600.78] Tony: But I'm still on my original mind about two years old then.
[2604.94] NJ: Yes, I mean, generally the quality of that stuff is great.
[2608.42] NJ: And you open one up, you see that they're very nicely loomed.
[2611.58] NJ: And yeah, I just think it's one of them things.
[2614.78] NJ: Unfortunately, it happens to me.
[2616.46] NJ: But I should say any better.
[2619.7] Adam: It's not not entirely related, but I had a nice snowboard.
[2623.66] Adam: I was sat still in an easy jet flight at Luton Airport.
[2628.58] Adam: I watched them throw the thing out of the plane, fell onto the runway,
[2634.1] Adam: and then they ran over it with a little train.
[2636.1] Adam: Oh, nice. OK, three for three.
[2638.94] Adam: Yeah, it wasn't the only thing they ran over, but they did grudgingly
[2644.86] Adam: except because there were tire lines over it when it came out.
[2649.26] Adam: Maybe they had to replace it.
[2651.02] NJ: Yeah, my good friend of mine's a pilot and I can't remember what he
[2657.1] NJ: they've kind of got a a nickname for them.
[2659.82] NJ: I think they're called runway rats or something like that is there.
[2663.54] Adam: I still call them throwers after the Fight Club scene.
[2666.62] NJ: Yeah, I just wish they didn't look quite so smug when they do it.
[2670.18] NJ: Yeah, well, I reckon they try and get a few done.
[2672.54] NJ: Bit of job satisfaction.
[2674.34] Adam: Runway rats. I'll remember that.
[2675.9] NJ: Yeah, it's something like that. Yeah, that'll do.
[2681.06] Adam: Oh, shout out to the London Drone Racing Club while we're on.
[2685.1] Adam: Why are you competing in that?
[2687.26] Adam: I'm not competing in that.
[2688.58] Adam: They're just a nice group of lads who
[2692.66] Adam: who cannot stop texting each other.
[2696.02] Adam: Oh, I'm on the WhatsApp or whatever.
[2701.86] Adam: It's called the chat thing.
[2703.06] Jae: So you're not paying.
[2704.02] Jae: I'm on the phone. Yeah, it is constant.
[2708.78] Jae: So so why are they a nice group of people?
[2710.74] Jae: Do they make you tea or coffee?
[2712.38] Jae: Do they give you biscuits?
[2713.66] Jae: Do they what's so nice about London?
[2716.34] Jae: What was it?
[2717.14] Adam: I went and went and had a little fly with them when I when I just wanted to play
[2720.78] Adam: and they just were very welcoming.
[2722.94] Adam: I think. Oh, yeah.
[2726.22] NJ: Because it's a lovely community we have.
[2728.38] Adam: Yes. Well, that's it.
[2730.3] Adam: We're all lovely.
[2731.5] Adam: Speaking of lovely.
[2732.66] Adam: Look, look, look.
[2734.54] Adam: Oh, is it?
[2736.86] Adam: Oh, I love you when you're wearing it.
[2742.18] Adam: You don't need my help, do you?
[2743.22] Adam: And I'm supposed to sleep on the floor.
[2749.34] NJ: Does she just realize?
[2751.22] NJ: Yeah, I think so.
[2752.78] Jae: I do hope that he's going to be flying a TV after you.
[2757.34] Adam: Yeah. Oh, I just went.
[2759.38] Adam: Sorry, I've just went out the joke she was doing.
[2763.42] Adam: It was referencing that BBC guy, the guy being.
[2766.34] NJ: Oh, is it walking?
[2767.54] NJ: Oh, I see. Right.
[2769.02] NJ: Yeah, I can read.
[2771.58] Jae: In fact, do we get a question?
[2773.02] Jae: No, I ask you if you could come on and answer a few questions about drones.
[2776.22] Jae: We'll we'll make them easy.
[2778.18] Jae: Right. Have you ever let a fly a drone?
[2781.42] Adam: No, it was worth it.
[2784.94] NJ: And can Adam buy more?
[2787.78] Adam: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[2788.9] Adam: Yeah, maybe we should avoid that kind of question.
[2791.9] Adam: Well, I mean, actually, I genuinely can't remember.
[2800.54] Adam: I think I tried to persuade her to try the Phantom or Phantom 4
[2807.88] Adam: when I had that, but she wasn't very interested.
[2812.32] Jae: I do remember actually living.
[2813.76] Jae: Don Robinson's kids have a five percent or four and they loved it
[2817.0] Jae: and they were quite young at the time.
[2818.08] Adam: But, you know, he's with the kids.
[2820.52] Adam: Yeah, I think the little one is a little too young.
[2826.6] Adam: And having had someone else's little one smash up, you know what,
[2830.12] Jae: though, we should be allowing kids to fly drones, whether the parents or whatever,
[2833.44] Jae: because they will be making the decisions over us in 30, 40, 50 years time.
[2839.24] Jae: Good point. And I want to fly FPV long into my old age.
[2843.72] Adam: Are you saying are you saying that children are going to more successfully
[2846.56] Adam: engage with the political process than we will bother?
[2850.04] Jae: Possibly, yes, though.
[2851.8] Jae: Maybe they'll be a bit more sorted out with technology rather than luddites.
[2856.8] Adam: And I do know that there are various meetings being held in Westminster today
[2861.08] Adam: and tomorrow on the subject of.
[2863.68] Adam: Yes, there is.
[2864.92] Jae: That's very interesting.
[2866.6] Jae: DJI obviously released their their policy department and their legal department
[2871.12] Jae: released documentation saying how many they'd helped save.
[2874.0] Jae: I don't have the exact thing to have, but they were quite
[2877.68] Jae: they limited the factors down to only with the ones that had a news story
[2880.88] Jae: that they could verify, only the ones where the person's life was imminently in danger.
[2885.36] Adam: You're saying that news should be true?
[2887.32] Adam: Because I'm not sure.
[2888.0] Jae: I'm just saying they were very careful, very careful not to do the outmoded.
[2892.8] Jae: A friend of a friend said that their wife was saved by a drone because it cooked dinner.
[2897.36] Jae: I don't I don't know.
[2898.48] Jae: But basically they were saying that anyone had a verifiable
[2902.08] Jae: threat to life, that perhaps a rope was carried.
[2905.2] Jae: They had various cases of that study.
[2907.12] Adam: I can see why they were.
[2908.08] Adam: I can see why they would have to be true.
[2910.0] Adam: They have invested interest in making sure policy changes in their liking.
[2913.92] Adam: I know, but in fairness, but that's that's on our side, too.
[2917.2] Jae: So, you know, exactly, exactly.
[2919.04] Jae: This case, that's what I'm saying is I do hope whilst they're in these discussions
[2922.64] Jae: in parliament and wherever, that they do take it on board.
[2925.68] Jae: And hopefully businesses like that can help push it forward as well.
[2930.4] Adam: So I think it's I mean, I think it's probably, you know, we we know that the Amazon do
[2934.96] Adam: there is each research in this country.
[2937.84] Adam: I imagine now this country will be desperate to do anything that maintains any sort of investment.
[2943.28] Adam: Well, this is the thing.
[2944.24] Jae: So perhaps it's probably quite good news from my point of view.
[2948.8] Jae: From a Brexit point of view, yeah, we could become what the Middle East started to do
[2953.12] Jae: with Dubai and actually start holding less restrictive world showcases of UAV technologies,
[2960.16] Jae: whether it's how fast they race around or whatever.
[2964.48] NJ: Well, probably what we normally do is just to build an incredible prestigious brand
[2967.76] NJ: and then sell it to the Germans.
[2969.76] Adam: Yeah, yeah, like like we did with Mercedes.
[2974.32] Adam: Oh, no, hang on.
[2979.68] Adam: All right, I'm gonna suggest we finish on time.
[2984.32] Jae: I mean, it's slightly early, Mr.
[2987.04] Jae: You have to have it out for a few more minutes.
[2989.52] Jae: Once again, I'd like to say a massive thank you to foster stuff because
[2993.04] Jae: we wouldn't be on the air without that.
[2994.72] Jae: We can't afford it.
[2996.4] Jae: So thank you for some stuff.
[2998.0] Jae: And, N.J., are you gonna have you put the Revo frame?
[3002.08] NJ: Yeah, I'll be uploading my frame.
[3005.44] NJ: Well, it's all done.
[3006.24] NJ: It's uploaded.
[3006.8] NJ: I'm going to publish it probably in the next 10 minutes or so.
[3010.0] NJ: So yeah, if you want to go have a look at my thoughts on the Revo frame,
[3013.68] NJ: I'll be going up shortly.
[3015.12] NJ: Excellent.
[3016.88] NJ: 10 minutes.
[3018.16] NJ: We'll hold it to that.
[3019.12] NJ: Yeah, but I've got to go make a sandwich and do stuff before I, you know,
[3023.12] NJ: order of priorities.
[3025.12] NJ: Yeah.
[3025.52] Jae: Committee upload button is one.
[3027.76] Jae: It's a big task, isn't it?
[3028.96] NJ: I've got to remember which one of these is the broken one.
[3032.08] NJ: It was in your left hand.
[3037.92] Jae: They're both both broken.
[3039.52] Jae: Get a spectrum.
[3040.88] Jae: Actually, it's interesting on the spectrum front.
[3042.64] Jae: Maybe we can chat about it more.
[3044.0] Jae: As in a Taranis user, it's now moving to a spectrum.
[3048.56] Jae: This is something that we know faster.
[3051.44] Jae: No, no, no, no.
[3052.24] Jae: I think so.
[3053.12] Jae: Because maybe it's the hype train.
[3054.64] Jae: Maybe we can have a discussion on that next week.
[3056.32] Jae: But yeah, that's what I'm saying.
[3058.48] NJ: I'm very interested to follow the progress.
[3062.0] NJ: Well, let's see.
[3062.96] NJ: Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on.
[3064.72] NJ: Let's let's not spectrum.
[3068.4] NJ: But I will say the nice thing about the open source of Taranis and the race
[3074.24] NJ: flight guys have said they are considering looking into or looking at the firmware of
[3080.96] NJ: the Taranis and how to make it even faster.
[3083.36] NJ: So that's all good.
[3086.0] NJ: It's all good.
[3086.4] NJ: Just own both.
[3088.56] Jae: Well, you have both, don't you?
[3089.68] Jae: But on one final note, I suppose unless you're really up there with the reaction times and
[3096.32] Jae: things, most people fly brilliantly with the Taranis that they've only ever dreamed of
[3100.4] Jae: on spectrum and vice versa.
[3102.24] Jae: It's more on the pilot than it is the actual radio, I think.
[3105.84] Tony: I think race flight one have just released their new update.
[3109.6] Tony: So you can actually control from your Taranis, you can control everything.
[3113.84] Tony: That's correct.
[3114.72] NJ: Well, yeah, you can now use smart audio telemetry in the latest.
[3120.16] NJ: It's release candidate five they're up to now.
[3122.4] NJ: It just jumped from one to five.
[3124.16] NJ: I didn't spot any kind of intro, but yeah, you can now use Lua script on your Taranis
[3130.8] NJ: and you can set your VTX channel and your power of your VTX if you're running a TBS
[3138.4] NJ: unify or similar that will support smart audio.
[3140.96] NJ: I think the Tramp support smart audio as well.
[3143.6] NJ: The Immersion RC Tramp.
[3145.04] NJ: Don't quote me on that.
[3147.04] NJ: But yeah, it's great.
[3148.8] NJ: I love super cool.
[3151.36] Jae: What it is is we've got an exciting year ahead on, you know, for different developments.
[3157.6] Jae: It's finally perhaps the radios have started to see more development.
[3160.24] Jae: Whereas before in the past, they've just been made.
[3163.52] Jae: But well, someone's gonna talk me out because I have to go back to another PC
[3167.76] Jae: in another room to actually close this call.
[3169.44] Jae: So until I do that, we're all chatting.
[3172.4] Jae: But thank you all for listening once again.
[3175.12] Jae: This is the trouble when Gremlins come around.
[3176.72] Jae: In fact, I would actually give you a live tour, but maybe that's too much.
[3180.32] Jae: But yeah, Gremlins do come around every so often and we do apologize.
[3184.16] Jae: They interrupt the show and you have to find another YouTube stream.
[3187.52] Jae: But thanks for tuning in.
[3189.28] Jae: As always, we will be back next week.
[3192.16] Tony: Sorry, Adam.
[3192.88] Tony: I've muted you and you'll have to unmute yourself.
[3198.69] Tony: Bye bye, little driver.
[3200.69] Jae: Well, thanks for that last passing note to Tony.
[3204.37] Jae: Thanks, Tony, for joining in.
[3206.45] Jae: And thanks, Adam.
[3207.49] Jae: Thanks, N.J.
[3208.05] Jae: Thank you so much for letting us join out.
[3210.93] Adam: And say bye to Leo and Vassy as well.
[3213.17] Jae: Bye bye.
[3213.97] Jae: Oh, bye, Leo and Vassy.
[3215.17] Jae: Bye.
[3215.81] Jae: Say bye, everybody.
[3216.61] Jae: Bye bye.
