This week we are joined by BMSWeb (Paul and Thomas) to find out what they've been up to and finding out their plans as they move towards the end of the southern hemisphere drone season. https://www.youtube.com/user/BMSWEB Also this evening - we are going to be joined by Dom Robinson of Hidden Valley to give us some updates about that awesome flying spot many of us know and love [0.62] Jae: Well, well, well, hello and welcome to Let's Join Out for another Thursday, good to have [6.46] Jae: you here. [7.46] Jae: The chat room is already lively with Zero in there and Striker, two regulars, hello [12.14] Jae: to you all there, and I know many others will be joining shortly. [15.5] Jae: Hello to you, everyone listening. [17.9] Jae: And hello to Tony. [18.9] Jae: Bonjour. [19.9] Jae: Yeah, you're with me and you this week. [22.9] Jae: Two hours, got an hour each, so you realise I'm going to take the first hour and then [28.18] Tony: relax. [29.18] Tony: Oh, don't leave me here alone. [31.18] Jae: No, no, we're going to be going for two hours tonight, people. [34.1] Jae: We've got Andrew here as a guest to tell us about the mini air show. [38.98] Jae: Great. [39.98] Jae: Hello, Andrew. [40.98] Jae: And then later on in the show, hopefully we'll have BMS web for both Paul and Thomas coming [44.62] Jae: online to tell us about how Thomas is taking over from Stu from UAV Futures. [50.78] Jae: And then we do have Dom Robinson also joining us to the end of the show. [53.98] Jae: So it's quite a packed show. [56.86] Jae: And actually, you know, since last week, I've finally tried my race flight with my [61.02] Jae: own quad and I'm happy with it. [64.86] Jae: There's no two ways of saying it. [66.14] Jae: On stock built, it's fine. [69.34] Jae: It flies beautifully. [70.34] Jae: So I'm kind of sold. [73.02] Jae: Not a single thing. [74.5] Jae: Not a single thing. [75.98] Jae: No. [76.98] Jae: Wow. [77.98] Jae: I mean, I did my build video on Sunday, which was a mammoth. [82.02] Jae: I mean, I should have built it quicker. [83.58] Jae: I just didn't do a live stream, but I did that. [85.3] Jae: And then I went to fight the next day and not a single thing changed and I've been [89.74] Jae: quite happy. [90.74] Jae: I think things could be changed, don't get me wrong. [93.1] Jae: But so far, it's just I mean, I got to the point where I wanted to try another flight [98.3] Jae: controller. [99.3] Jae: And to be honest, everyone that I've known had been flying, had been raving about it. [103.34] Jae: So that's what I've been doing. [105.58] Jae: That's my week with a little chameleon. [108.58] Jae: So I mean, it's it's amazing what you can get from a quad these days and that the build [112.7] Jae: quality of this thing is truly amazing. [116.02] Jae: It just went together like, I don't know, just perfectly machined pieces. [121.18] Jae: So at the moment, she's been flying. [124.54] Tony: What's your setup enjoying to us? [127.06] Jae: Cobra Motors 2207 2450 KV shipped from Germany because there's no UK stock anywhere. [136.06] Jae: FedEx 30 and PSE is the high voltage ones, which are a dream race flight and yeah, chameleon [143.3] Jae: frame. [144.3] Jae: You know what? [145.3] Tony: Trump. [146.3] Tony: Do you know what race flight you're on? [147.3] Jae: What release? [148.3] Jae: 222 is it something 064 might have been slightly different. [153.66] Jae: But it came actually the board I got when I got it from UK supply, it was showing out [158.02] Jae: of stock middle of last week or mid last week. [162.62] Jae: So I ordered it from somewhere else that it showed us in stock, but it wasn't in stock. [166.9] Jae: But I know apparently the change of the website, but I managed to get another one. [173.06] Jae: And it came already with race flight one. [175.54] Jae: And I think quite a later version that, you know, pre installed. [178.82] Jae: So I guess it's moving along in there. [181.86] Tony: Leave leave it on because I've run RC 12 and had nothing but problems. [186.58] Tony: And I've just gone back to RC one and I'm hoping it's going to be all right. [191.34] Jae: Well, no, but that's the nature of the beast, isn't it? [195.3] Jae: It wants to update as soon as you connect it up in bootloader mode. [199.18] Jae: I just I just updated it as N.J. [202.02] Jae: said. [203.02] Jae: And they said it's a beta program. [205.34] Jae: Why aren't you updating to the latest one to have? [207.58] Tony: Oh, no, I stayed on beta flight two one six for ages, ages and ages, because I just know [220.54] Tony: that flew and I just didn't want to update. [222.62] Tony: I think things feel the need to. [225.06] Tony: And the same as this. [226.74] Tony: I've just I've tried to the latest race flight and it was just full of stuck bugs. [234.42] Tony: What were annoying me, whether it was just because of my particular setup and my essays, [239.82] Tony: my notice, I don't know. [240.9] Tony: But I've gone back now to a stable firmware and I'm hoping it's all without my problems [247.78] Tony: because I had three days of pulling my hair out, Jay. [250.66] Tony: Look, I'm old. [253.38] Jae: Even more so hard to put your head, put your head closer, put your head closer. [258.98] Jae: Definitely. [260.18] Jae: What was this is race flight or were we being having problems with? [263.98] Jae: What do you mean? [265.5] Tony: Well, I got a new build and I just had problems with the camera. [272.34] Tony: So I still don't know if I've saw without I've either put two cameras in problems [277.78] Tony: like internal problems, loose connections or whatever. [281.42] Tony: Or the TPS Unified Pro, I was powering off the PDB, didn't have enough power to power [288.82] Tony: itself and the camera. [291.26] Tony: Yeah. [291.62] Tony: So I was getting black fuzzies. [293.46] Tony: I've seen it was fine, it's fine. [295.46] Tony: And then it would go like fuzzy, like black and white lines, nothing that I've ever seen [303.46] Tony: before. [304.46] Tony: And then I'd land and it would come back on and then I'd flick the camera and it would [308.9] Tony: go off, flick it and it'd go back on. [310.58] Tony: So I think there's a loose connection somewhere. [314.98] Tony: I flew it last night and it was fine. [317.22] Tony: The camera was fine and it flew fine. [319.9] Tony: No heat on the motors, no heat on the ESCs, landed it, put it on the side of my house, [326.7] Tony: went to work, come out today, took it all out, went over to the field, carry everything [332.58] Tony: over there, plugged it in and it booted up and I armed it and it just shook on the floor. [341.22] Tony: It went, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, it was just shaking and I was like, oh no. [345.1] Paul: What did it do? [346.46] Tony: It was just shaking. [347.46] Tony: I'm not doing it again. [348.46] Tony: Did it not do it again? [349.46] Tony: No, no, no, no, it was shaking and just sitting there having a fit and I was like, what, how, [356.3] Tony: what could happen? [357.3] Tony: So I don't know, I just got really fed up. [360.3] Tony: I got my PC out. [362.1] Tony: As soon as I turned on my PC, it started updating. [364.9] Tony: I was like, oh for heaven's sake. [367.3] Tony: And then I looked and I had 6% battery and it was just, it went from there, it just went [374.06] Tony: down here when I was just like, oh for Christ's sake and then my phone ran out of battery [379.1] Tony: and I just thought like a weirdo sitting in the middle of the field when we dog and stuff [384.54] Tony: around me on a seat with a laptop. [387.18] Tony: I mean, who does that? [389.42] Jae: Well, actually, you just reminded me of Tom Smith carrying off a picnic rug with a stick [393.66] Jae: on the end of a stick. [395.66] Jae: Actually, you know what, sometimes it's useful if people think you're weird, they're less [400.98] Jae: likely to approach you and ask you what you're doing. [403.38] Tony: Yeah, there is that, yeah. [405.86] Jae: So I like your story. [407.82] Tony: There is good out of it. [409.54] Tony: It's weird man, we're broadcasting from 8 o'clock and it's light outside. [413.98] Jae: Yeah, we finally actually got the good weather coming through and today was beautiful. [419.62] Jae: Did you fly anything then or is it complete? [422.94] Tony: No, I thought I'd leave me have a quad, I need to tune this and work on this and I wish [429.42] Tony: I took the other quad because Lisa could have had a fly. [433.06] Tony: And there was no wind and it was like perfect and it didn't happen. [440.3] Tony: I'm hoping I fixed it. [442.62] Tony: I mean, I don't know, do flight controllers hold us an amount of power where they can [447.58] Tony: push it and then if the power drains out of them, do they forget it? [453.3] Tony: You know, I don't know. [455.3] Jae: Repeat the question. [458.18] Tony: Do flight controllers hold any power where they, you know, like when you load something [466.34] Tony: up on it and then just leave it, I left it the night on my side and it's just like it [473.22] Tony: forgot what it was supposed to do the next morning when I plugged it in or like the afternoon. [479.62] Tony: So it was like... [480.62] Frank: I think that's fair enough. [481.62] Frank: I'm like that sometimes. [482.62] Tony: I'm like it every day but I just wondered if my, I just wondered if, I don't know. [490.9] Jae: Things can have a good charge and capacitors can have a charge of things and generally [494.94] Jae: if you left it overnight, it might be different but things wouldn't change necessarily for [499.34] Jae: the worse. [500.34] Tony: You say that but I put a post out on Facebook and someone come back to me and said that [506.02] Tony: they've had the same problem, not with race flight in particular with, they didn't say [510.5] Tony: but they said that they'd flown one day, gone back to it the next day and their PIDs had [516.86] Tony: actually changed overnight. [520.78] Jae: Was that they didn't save the settings though? [522.74] Jae: Because I think that's more likely the flight controller. [524.86] Tony: I don't know, I'd have to find that out but it's interesting, it's something like some [530.34] Frank: sort of like a bootloader kind of pad kind of thing, could it short across there and [537.1] Frank: just reset everything to factory settings? [540.34] Frank: Is that a thing? [541.34] Tony: Well I don't know, it may be but it was still, I don't know, it's still armed, it still knew [548.18] Tony: my arm switch so I don't know, I really don't know. [553.34] Tony: It flew last night, I put it on the side, went out the next day and it just shook on [557.74] Tony: the floor and the motors got really hot so I don't know. [563.58] Tony: And the last night it flew perfect with nothing got hot and it was fine, even the camera worked. [572.1] Frank: Even the camera worked. [574.38] Jae: Maybe he was just saying I don't want to fly that day, sometimes dogs don't want to go [577.7] Jae: on that walk, maybe it didn't want to fly. [582.9] Tony: But it's so frustrating because in your head you go right, is it this, is it that, is it [588.62] Tony: that, is it that? [589.62] Tony: I thought my furious V-freeze had packed up the other day and I got to the, it's exactly [595.9] Tony: the same, I think it was Thursday, what was the day, Thursday today, it was like Tuesday [602.34] Tony: or even yesterday I got to the field, finished my work, sat down, plugged my goggles in, [608.34] Tony: nothing happened, it was like coming on and off, it turned out that it was my fat shark [614.9] Tony: battery lead, gone wrong. [617.34] Tony: So the battery was fine, the lead, you know on jacks, you know the bit of the jack lead [622.86] Tony: in there, you push it and then it worked, you push it and it don't, the same as RCA [627.78] Tony: leads, you remember the old RCA leads? [630.66] Jae: Yeah well interesting, I had, is it the one with the voltmeter on the side where you press [634.02] Jae: the button that shows how much, yeah. [636.1] Jae: I had one exactly in one and flying about a month ago I plugged it into my receiver [641.02] Jae: that didn't work and I thought oh no it was my receiver like you did, anyway then I checked [647.42] Jae: the, I checked the battery and I moved the cable and it came on and I thought I'm not [652.02] Jae: flying with that pack, I don't want it to just come out, it's fine, so I put it on [655.82] Jae: the side, the day yours broke was the day I finally got around to fixing it and it's [661.02] Jae: usually a break in the run to the actual right angle DC connector, usually it's in that cable [669.22] Jae: because that's the bit that gets stretched and bent backwards and forwards and charged [672.42] Jae: and uncharged, that's the bit that breaks and I managed to fix mine so it's worked well [676.98] Jae: because that was always a higher capacity than my one amp original battery which I thought [682.26] Jae: I'd lost and then, well here's the story, I thought I'd lost that battery because it [685.38] Jae: fell out of my goggles somewhere and that's why I had repaired the other bit, I found [689.18] Jae: the other today, all's well, but fix it, you know I'm not saying do this at home because [693.54] Jae: if you're listening and you don't have any skill but if you have some skills with batteries [696.82] Jae: and you take proper precautions they're not going to just go bang in your face, having [700.66] Jae: you know precautions of safety precautions if it goes wrong nearby, there's no reason [704.62] Jae: why people shouldn't be able to fix these things themselves and with a bit of caution [707.7] Tony: I'm not touching it Jay, I've had a lipo fire in my house, I've had a lipo fire in my house [714.94] Tony: and it caught fire to my rug and it cost me £600, so that was just, that was, I lined [724.42] Tony: up three for four batteries, I put my seat in the middle of the room, I was playing online [732.1] Tony: on the PS3 in America, PS4 and I thought oh I charged for batteries, they're in front [738.78] Tony: of me, they're on a fireplace, odd, if anything happens I can talk it out, I have a dog sack [746.86] Tony: bell on me and I've just about sat down and ready to charge them and this battery just [753.66] Tony: leapt off of the fireplace at my feet on fire on its own and it was not, it was in light [762.78] Tony: of my storage mode, it was, I'd flown with it, come home and it just, on its own, it [768.7] Tony: jumped and then just caught fire at my feet, luckily I was there, picked it up and threw [774.02] Tony: it out on the, you know, out on the observatory but it melted a hole in my carpet within seconds. [780.62] Tony: So it wasn't charging on it, it was just, no it wasn't, I was just lining them up, ready [785.46] Frank: to charge. So I've heard of batteries burning up on discharge before, they're like one amp [791.06] Frank: and you're going like, oh there shouldn't be a problem but it can be but. [795.3] Jae: A long time ago and we're talking four or five years ago and I think back to technology [799.66] Jae: has improved in those four or five years, I charged one and they always said never leave [805.14] Jae: one unattended and I just was doing something else on my PC and I looked back and the thing [809.74] Jae: had ballooned so I quickly disconnected, took off power and everything like that but that's [813.34] Jae: probably something that would have led up to something like yours but typically if you've [817.06] Jae: got a good quality battery it's through crash damage and actually I think these days they're [821.26] Jae: a bit more resilient to damage. [824.7] Tony: It was fine, it didn't look bent, it wasn't ballooned, it was fairly known to be honest. [831.14] Tony: It was just on fire. [832.14] Jae: Do you want to say what brand of battery it was? [836.3] Tony: It was from Hobbyking. [838.54] Jae: A nanotech because I've never bought one since. [846.14] Jae: But actually there's someone in our local group that's recently had a fire and a garage [850.7] Jae: and stuff, it can happen, it does happen and that's why you should always take precautions. [855.82] Tony: I don't even leave my batteries in my house anymore, they're in an ammo box outside my [860.98] Tony: house because I just do not trust them. [863.9] Frank: Yeah, there's quite a few people in the chat recommending ammo boxes. [869.78] Tony: I think Fossil Stuff, I think we're selling ammo boxes on Fossil Stuff website, if not [877.38] Tony: now we are soon. [880.7] Frank: Have a look. [882.98] Frank: Also in the chat, Matakala has said about your race flight thing, apparently all settings [892.54] Frank: are stored on flash memory and if your flight controller can't read them at start up it [896.98] Frank: probably resets and saves to default settings. [899.86] Frank: It's happened to him on race flight with old BB builds. [903.66] Frank: Ah, that might be good isn't it? [907.34] Frank: It might be doing that. [908.34] Tony: Well I was on RC12 I think and now I've gone to RC1 so I've gone backwards and hoping that [917.5] Tony: it will make me go forwards. [921.5] Jae: Chris does say that Tony, tech does hate you and I've thought this many a time. [925.3] Jae: Your tech does. [926.54] Jae: It does not agree with you. [928.54] Tony: I know, I'm the hardest but I end up giving it to Brad as in say please fix that or Jack [936.46] Tony: please fix that. [937.46] Jae: I think sometimes the building of a quad is kind of like making a nice meal. [942.18] Jae: You can put the time and the effort into it and the love and the passion and that's what [946.78] Jae: comes out in the final product. [949.1] Jae: It's a magic that sometimes comes from just giving it. [953.62] Jae: Maybe that's the only reason why mine's flying perfectly out of the box per se. [960.09] Jae: So Andrew you've been a very busy person of late. [963.17] Jae: I've been a very busy person of late. [965.17] Jae: Do you want to tell us what you've been up to, what's in the pipeline? [968.97] Frank: So I've been working with Clinton and Fraser on the Mini Airshow 3. [975.49] Frank: So there's been two Mini Airshows previously for the past two international drone days. [982.57] Frank: In fact I believe the first one has been the largest international drone day event [989.57] Frank: outside of America I believe. [991.57] Frank: I think that's what someone told me at some point. [994.25] Frank: So we're aiming for that again this year where we've got the Hidden Valley site for the whole [1004.69] Frank: weekend. [1005.69] Frank: We're going to be setting up on a Friday because there's so much going on that we need time [1009.29] Frank: to set up. [1011.81] Frank: And on the Saturday it looks like we're having all the team racing. [1017.49] Frank: So all the details are still to be firmed up because rotor racing are really busy sorting [1023.61] Frank: out all the finer details. [1024.61] Frank: They're going to do pretty much what was happening last year. [1027.81] Frank: So this was this team relay, teams of four pilots and two frequencies and swapping over [1038.93] Frank: so it's a bit of a relay. [1040.69] Frank: And so they're working on a slightly improved smoothed out version of that because they're [1047.05] Frank: rotor racing and they accept nothing but perfection in their organization of races. [1053.33] Frank: As I'm sure a couple of the Spanish racers who apparently come over purely for the amount [1059.97] Frank: of flying that they get to do with rotor racing running events, that's the sort of level of [1066.73] Frank: perfection that they're going for. [1068.93] Frank: So there's going to be the team racing going on. [1072.53] Frank: We're going to have, we've got the line tracks are coming along and doing their 3D heli displays [1078.25] Frank: again. [1079.25] Frank: We've got people coming along to do demonstrations of racing wings. [1084.93] Frank: We've got all the talks. [1087.25] Frank: We've got a concourse contest. [1090.85] Frank: So people from petrolhead kind of scene will know about the concourse delegates. [1096.57] Frank: So come along and show off your very tiny, very shiny, lovely builds. [1102.33] Frank: There's going to be an oddball 3000, which is also borrowed from the automotive side [1106.85] Frank: of things. [1107.85] Frank: So come along and show off your wacky builds as well as we're going to have a space set [1114.61] Frank: aside for anyone of you with all your aerial photography, lovely aerial art things if you [1121.09] Frank: want to come along and show bits off in a mini drone art gallery, then please do bring [1129.05] Frank: stuff along. [1130.05] Frank: Sounds really good. [1131.05] Frank: Sounds like it's getting to everyone. [1132.05] Frank: So it's getting bigger. [1133.05] Jae: It's more and more. [1134.05] Tony: Is there a freestyle? [1135.05] Tony: Maybe there might be a freestyle. [1136.05] Tony: Definitely going to be freestyle. [1137.05] Frank: Jack would not let us run the event if it wasn't for there being some freestyle, so that's [1150.93] Frank: definitely going to be in there. [1151.93] Frank: Well done, Jack. [1153.93] Jae: And this is the sixth and seventh of May. [1156.93] Frank: Yes. [1157.93] Frank: This is the sixth and seventh of May and Saturday and Sunday. [1161.25] Frank: This is at the Hidden Valley site. [1164.37] Frank: So this is near Brighton. [1165.77] Frank: We're going to have camping overnight on, it's going to be available on the Friday and [1171.09] Frank: the Saturday. [1173.09] Frank: All the information is going to be posted up as it all gets found up on the Facebook [1181.93] Frank: page and the websites. [1182.93] Frank: The website is MinnieAirShow.com and we've got the Facebook page, which is Facebook.com [1188.73] Frank: forward slash miniature air show. [1190.73] Frank: You can find us all along there. [1194.69] Frank: The tickets are currently at an early bird, cheaper rate, so get them while they're still [1201.13] Frank: like that because they won't be like that forever. [1204.85] Frank: And that's currently what price then for the early bird price? [1209.73] Frank: So the early bird prices are currently for the flying pass for the whole weekend. [1216.65] Frank: So that's per pilot for the whole weekend is currently sitting at 20 pounds. [1222.33] Frank: The day parking. [1224.65] Frank: So if you're coming along because you're nearby and you don't really fancy camping. [1228.65] Frank: Why not? [1230.17] Frank: You don't even have to fly if you would just want to come along and watch and spectate [1234.53] Frank: because there's going to be lots of stuff going on that you can still get involved with [1237.21] Frank: even if you're not flying. [1240.41] Frank: It's going to be per vehicle per day and that's five pounds flat T. And then we're also going [1247.41] Frank: to have the camping available. [1249.21] Frank: So that's going to be 15 pounds per pitch per night. [1253.77] Frank: So if you want to come on the Friday and the Saturday, that's going to be 30 pounds for [1258.73] Frank: those two nights. [1259.73] Frank: But if you just want to come for one, then obviously it's the one. [1262.73] Jae: But there's going to be toilets and facilities for food and everything. [1266.33] Frank: Oh, yeah. [1267.33] Frank: Yeah. [1268.33] Frank: And the scouts are going to be really, really on the food and drink. [1273.29] Frank: They're going to be running the they've got a big food van coming along that they're going [1277.97] Frank: to be doing hot food and there is going to be non meat eating options as well. [1285.73] Frank: And we're going to have them as well as outside the hot meals. [1295.33] Frank: They're going to be running a bit of a tuck shop for the weekend. [1298.65] Frank: So if you don't bring enough water, then you can get water from them and teas and coffees [1304.37] Frank: and all of that kind of thing. [1305.85] Frank: They're going to be running that. [1306.85] Frank: They're also looking to get a freezer and ice cream and all sorts of things. [1310.53] Frank: So they will be fully stocked. [1313.65] Frank: But we still do recommend that people bring water along with them because there's no water [1318.53] Frank: on site other than bottles. [1321.33] Frank: Yeah. [1322.33] Frank: But yeah, it's going to be really good. [1325.09] Jae: Water isn't too far away if you need to go get it. [1328.09] Jae: Yeah, exactly. [1329.09] Frank: It's a bit of a short trip down to Tesco's, but still you're missing out. [1334.93] Frank: There's so much going on. [1335.93] Frank: You don't want to spend the time going down to Tesco's. [1339.09] Jae: Do you know how many teams are going to be registered and any more details about registering [1343.45] Jae: for a team? [1344.45] Frank: So all the registrations for the team racing and the other competitions, that's all going [1348.77] Frank: to be sent out to ticket holders. [1352.25] Frank: Hopefully it's going to be Sunday evening-ish. [1356.41] Frank: So we're just waiting for the final go ahead on all the details from rates of racing and [1362.93] Frank: then it's all going to be sent out. [1364.37] Frank: So excellent. [1366.25] Frank: They're very busy people, so we're being very understanding. [1369.89] Jae: But it's one month away, so I suppose in the next couple of weeks you could expect that [1374.77] Jae: if they haven't opened up, they will be opened up. [1376.89] Jae: But I guess you'll be posting that on the Facebook page. [1380.33] Jae: So you would need to keep up to date with all the developments. [1382.57] Frank: Yeah, it's all going to be out on the Facebook page and the website and we're going to email [1387.85] Frank: it out to all the ticket holders. [1389.21] Frank: And yeah, so we're going to try and make sure everyone knows. [1392.89] Frank: But yeah, the surefire way of getting the tickets while they're cheap and being notified [1397.73] Frank: of things as soon as it happens is going to be buying your tickets now. [1402.33] Frank: And that also helps us out. [1404.65] Frank: But also, if anyone is up for volunteering, because the entire mini air show is run by [1410.89] Frank: us who are volunteering all that time, we're not gaining out of this. [1415.01] Frank: We're just doing this out of the love of the hobby and that we want to show off drones [1419.81] Frank: and how they can be used safely and usefully and be great fun. [1423.85] Frank: And we want to show this off to the general public who might not know a lot about drones [1429.85] Frank: and might just hear all the media reports that are a bit not very rip-off. [1434.45] Frank: Excited. [1435.45] Frank: Yeah, exactly. [1436.45] Frank: So we want to show them all the good sizes of drones. [1441.73] Frank: So yeah, if anyone wants to come and help, we could do with a few hands on Friday setting [1449.25] Frank: up and we will also need, if anyone wants to help out with the racing, Rotor Racing [1457.65] Frank: have asked for a couple of hands, well, four hands, no, hold on, eight hands, four people [1465.49] Frank: to help out with the registrations. [1470.13] Jae: Eight people, not four, not eight hands, that's still eight people. [1476.05] Frank: And there may be... [1477.05] Frank: Unconfusing things. [1478.13] Frank: They want people to help out with the registrations because if you've ever been to a race before, [1484.85] Frank: registrations takes a long time. [1486.49] Jae: It does. [1487.49] Jae: And actually even the briefing and things like that on the day, be prepared that you [1489.81] Jae: might have to, you know, go for the briefing and show the accords and insurance and things [1493.93] Jae: like that. [1494.93] Frank: Yeah, if you will need to bring along, if you want to fly, you need to bring along. [1499.81] Frank: Yeah, this is good information. [1501.53] Frank: You'll need to bring along your flying insurance, so whether that's BMFA or FPV UK or whoever, [1512.29] Frank: you will need to make sure if you're flying FPV that you are flying on 25 milliwatts and [1521.21] Frank: that you can work to the raceband channels. [1526.53] Frank: Is it all going to be flying just raceband? [1530.81] Frank: It's all just going to be raceband, yes. [1532.89] Tony: Okay, so everyone needs to be a raceband. [1535.25] Frank: Make sure you've got 25 milliwatt racebands capable of BTX and, you know, receivers and [1541.93] Frank: anything else you want. [1543.45] Frank: Make sure you work towards that. [1546.73] Jae: And as for people that need to make repairs, there's going to be somewhere to race. [1550.37] Frank: Oh, yes, yeah. [1551.37] Frank: Again, Jack is pushing for this a lot. [1554.25] Frank: We are going to have a build area and we're going to hopefully, there might well be some [1561.53] Frank: activities going on there, but I will keep that under my hat until I know for sure because [1566.33] Frank: I don't want to disappoint anyone. [1568.45] Frank: Yeah, it's all shaping up really nicely. [1573.29] Frank: We're very happy. [1574.29] Frank: We look forward to seeing lots of people there because especially Let's Drone Out. [1579.37] Frank: There's a lot of spiritual connection there between Let's Drone Out and Mini Airshow, [1583.49] Frank: so we're really forward to seeing lots of people there. [1586.33] Frank: It's going to be good fun. [1587.69] Jae: And it is part of International Drone Day, isn't it? [1589.61] Jae: I mean, the whole of this actual time of year, even though it's different first years [1593.05] Jae: and things, is an international event that this is coinciding with, Mini Airshow is coinciding [1598.13] Jae: with. [1599.13] Jae: Have you got in touch with David Neal to show them that you're doing something over here? [1603.77] Frank: Oh, yeah. [1604.77] Frank: Yeah. [1605.77] Frank: The O'Neals are aware of us and, yeah, maybe you could have them on again because they [1612.57] Frank: were on, I think, last year in the round. [1614.81] Jae: Yeah, right up to it. [1615.81] Jae: Yeah, I mean, it's exactly one month today. [1618.09] Jae: I'm just thinking as well, if people are traveling from a fair distance, because some people [1621.81] Jae: do travel for several hours, if they're coming down on the Friday, the time that they can [1625.89] Jae: start accessing the site to pitch. [1628.25] Frank: We're going to be there all day. [1629.97] Frank: So if people do turn up, then just be aware that we may still be setting things up. [1636.77] Frank: And you might be directed. [1638.45] Frank: We are. [1639.45] Frank: Then we might grab you and you'll be volunteered into helping out. [1643.45] Tony: It's that old day Friday and what time from because I am going to come down Friday and [1650.93] Frank: help. [1653.05] Frank: I'm with me and Clinton and Fraser, I'm sure, are going to be there from early in the morning. [1659.77] Frank: But, yeah, we will if you if you want to help out, we've got a volunteers group, Facebook [1667.73] Frank: group. [1668.85] Jae: And if you don't have Facebook, is there an email address? [1671.65] Jae: Have you got an email address or something that another way they can get in touch? [1675.57] Frank: Yep. So we and I think there is a slightly fancier one. [1681.05] Frank: I can't remember that on the top of my head. [1684.13] Frank: My account is Mini Airshow UK at Gmail dot com. [1688.97] Frank: So that will do. [1690.45] Jae: I'll type it in there. [1691.73] Jae: So that's Mini Airshow UK UK at Gmail dot com. [1699.13] Jae: I'm going to show UK at Gmail dot com. [1701.53] Jae: There you go. If it's in the chat. [1703.93] Jae: Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. [1705.69] Jae: I mean, from the very first Mini Airshow, I met so many people and it was just my decision [1711.93] Jae: whether I went to Yorkshire where I'd spent a lot more time and I kind of knew some of the [1716.53] Jae: people up there where I came down to Brighton and I wanted to change. [1720.01] Jae: So it's here you are. [1722.53] Jae: I know you would have thought anyway. [1726.45] Jae: So you've been pointed. [1729.21] Tony: Sorry. I was just going to say I'm looking forward to my Scottish lads who fly down for [1734.77] Tony: this weekend. [1737.29] Tony: Martin, Dez and all the guys that I met at the Nationals, the first Nationals I went to, [1743.57] Tony: I made friends with these guys and they're all they're all coming down, but they're playing [1749.41] Tony: tickets and they're all excited already. [1751.45] Tony: So they're going to be coming down from Scotland. [1754.01] Tony: It's like people travel a long way to come down and participate in this event because it's [1760.57] Tony: such good fun. [1762.33] Tony: Looking forward to seeing them guys again. [1764.29] Jae: It's good to meet people and stuff that you may have spoke to online. [1768.29] Jae: You may have watched YouTube videos. [1770.17] Jae: A lot of people that you might have known of but never knew who it was. [1773.93] Tony: Yeah, it's nice that that's the nice bit of it when you people have watched you on Let's [1780.97] Tony: Throw Now, obviously, and watch YouTube or seeing you do stuff and then actually come [1786.89] Tony: and say hi is lovely. [1789.49] Jae: Yeah. So is there going to be an option of having campfires at this media show? [1797.05] Jae: Yeah, Andrew, do you know, if not, can we find out? [1800.49] Jae: We've got one month. [1801.53] Jae: We'll start stockpiling our wood. [1803.49] Frank: The plan is hopefully, I'm still waiting. [1807.05] Frank: It might be a communal one, I guess. [1809.33] Frank: Yeah, there's hopefully going to be some fire pit barbecue bits in in the middle of in the middle [1816.49] Frank: of everything so we can all crowd around. [1819.13] Jae: Can I make a suggestion? [1820.97] Jae: Yeah, can we make a quad powered forge so we can I don't know, just make some. [1830.13] Frank: You don't need an item to get the heat. [1832.25] Jae: Yeah, yeah, yeah. [1832.85] Tony: I remember last year there's quite a lot of night flying going on. [1839.61] Tony: So if you if you if you want to get your build ready, there's there was some love. [1845.81] Tony: Johnny Benton had a nice plane up. [1847.77] Tony: We had lights on it and there was quite a few wings flying around with lights on with night [1853.09] Tony: vision cameras. [1853.77] Tony: So yeah, get your get your night stuff ready as well, guys. [1857.05] Jae: Who who had that really lightweight plane that just was completely silent almost and [1863.17] Jae: everyone was a bit questioning to what it was until we realized when it got a bit closer. [1866.49] Jae: You remember that? [1868.01] Tony: I was one that was really lightweight. [1872.05] Tony: Dave, one of our crew come down on Sunday, he had a tiny little, yeah, really lightweight, [1878.93] Tony: but just had loads of lights on it. [1881.09] Tony: And you couldn't really see which way it was. [1883.65] Tony: Yeah, that was one of my mates day. [1886.69] Tony: I think he probably comes down. [1887.97] Tony: I haven't seen him for a few few days, few months. [1890.69] Tony: So I hope you're going to come down. [1893.45] Jae: Yeah, if you're coming down, if you can still write a plane, it'd be good to see it again. [1897.61] Tony: He he buys different things all the time. [1900.09] Tony: Yeah, last time I saw him, he had a I don't know how to pronounce it. [1903.61] Tony: Is it a VTOL plane? [1906.97] Jae: A VTOL, it's VTOL. [1909.37] Jae: Yeah, it will take off and yeah, yeah. [1911.97] Tony: Yeah, OK. [1912.85] Tony: So, yeah, he took off and then. [1915.53] Jae: That's a key, I mean, have you got any insight into the wacky builds at the moment? [1925.97] Jae: I mean, have you had any submissions into this foray into this field? [1931.45] Frank: Well, there's there's always from the LDO drone games. [1937.89] Frank: There's there's the Tupper quads with its windscreen. [1942.57] Tony: That was absolutely brilliant. [1945.21] Jae: Let's see if it's a complete washer and going under the marquees. [1948.33] Jae: That is the question. [1950.09] Frank: So I think that kind of epitomizes what's going to do well on that side of things. [1957.85] Frank: But yeah, I've also seen in the chat questions about casual flying at the Mini Air Show. [1962.93] Frank: And there is definitely going to be casual flying at the Mini Air Show. [1967.01] Frank: Going to do some testing this weekend of [1971.85] Frank: VTX channels to see exactly how we're going to work that one out. [1977.61] Frank: But it's definitely going to happen, even if it's just some time slots. [1982.45] Frank: But we'll keep you updated on that. [1985.29] Tony: So it's going to be like a kind of flight festival. [1987.97] Tony: So a little bit different to last year. [1989.85] Tony: Hopefully a little bit better where more people can participate in different things [1994.49] Tony: rather than just coming and racing. [1996.37] Tony: And that's it. So there's going to be a bit more to do for everyone. [2000.21] Jae: Variety and things. Yeah, exactly. [2002.21] Frank: And yeah, so we're hopefully hopefully going to have some simulators [2007.25] Frank: if they're not stolen off by Flightfest West. [2012.29] Frank: We're going to have a tiny whooping, obviously. [2016.53] Frank: And that's just going to happen. [2017.69] Frank: So we're going to make sure there's space for it. [2020.97] Tony: And I still need to get myself one of them. [2024.21] Jae: A tiny whoop. No, have you got any micro flyer? [2028.25] Tony: I had an Upton. I had a Downton quad. [2033.13] Tony: But I blew an ESE up on it. [2039.05] Tony: Yes. So I need I need I need something else. [2043.17] Tony: I need another one. Dan, I need another one, please. [2049.01] Jae: Yeah, I'm still keen to get something of a smaller variety. [2051.69] Jae: I mean, I've got a few, but I'm winning on props for one that I smashed up. [2055.33] Tony: I like the E-Max bait. Is it baby Hawk? [2057.93] Tony: That looks cool, because it's already built. [2061.53] Tony: You know what I'm like. [2063.81] Jae: Factory factory symbol. Yeah. [2066.53] Tony: Yeah, I don't like just give me something or flies, please. [2069.97] Jae: So, Andrew, what are you flying at the moment, then? [2073.65] Frank: I am flying my TSX to 20. [2077.61] Frank: That's my go to at the moment. [2079.97] Jae: I've still said the one you had last year. [2082.17] Frank: No, that was the set of Martin 50 that is currently sitting in a box [2087.93] Frank: in Jack's room waiting for us to finish a project on it. [2092.77] Jae: But the listening needs to be finished. [2095.69] Frank: Well, I need to contribute to it as well. But OK. [2100.61] Frank: Yeah. And as I'm still just about finishing my tricopter [2107.01] Frank: when I get time in between [2110.33] Frank: the mini air show things, but yeah, [2115.25] Frank: and I'm more than anything I'm doing. [2117.29] Frank: That's a weeping with my UX 90 [2121.05] Frank: just because I can get to places a lot more easily that I can fly that [2124.29] Frank: than anything else. [2125.61] Jae: And it's more options indoor and everything. Exactly. [2128.65] Frank: So you still with the BVF PRA? [2131.73] Frank: Yeah, yeah, that's that's got very, very busy. [2135.45] Frank: There's lots of things going on. [2138.33] Frank: Obviously, with Tom stepping down and Brett stepping up in his place, [2144.13] Frank: there's a lot of stuff being sorted out. [2145.97] Frank: And although I know it always seems quiet [2150.69] Frank: from the outside looking in, there is a lot going on. [2152.97] Frank: And hopefully we'll have the details of the AGM, [2159.33] Frank: I believe, is being sorted out soon. [2162.49] Tony: I hear this talk of [2165.37] Tony: changes in racing format like 4S, 5S, 6S. [2170.89] Frank: Yeah, I think that's kind of a case of looking at the rules and saying, [2176.21] Frank: actually, you know, there are a lot of people that can fly. [2181.33] Frank: I've got quads that don't quite fit into these rules [2185.37] Frank: and it doesn't give them a massive advantage. [2188.01] Frank: You know, having, you know, [2191.97] Frank: I can't think of any at the moment, but it just seems [2195.25] Frank: what why are we ruling that out? [2198.97] Frank: If it doesn't make it completely unfair, then then what's the point in ruling it out? [2204.81] Frank: So I think that's going to be what's going to be debated [2207.57] Frank: amongst a lot of other things at the AGM. [2210.01] Frank: So anyone who wants to have their voices heard on that sort of thing. [2215.57] Frank: Definitely, if you're not signed up already, then sign up [2218.05] Frank: and you can get your your PFPVRA membership card and all the rest of the pack, [2223.97] Frank: which will get you in to get your points registered [2228.21] Frank: from any QEs that you attend. [2231.73] Jae: Will points be registered from a miniature ratio? [2235.85] Frank: No, unfortunately, with team racing, that kind of rules it out. [2240.05] Jae: Exactly. [2241.01] Frank: There was there was a big a big debate early on this year about [2246.09] Frank: are we going to have, you know, individual racing like everything else [2250.61] Frank: or are we going to have the team racing from last year? [2253.29] Frank: And I think having [2256.97] Frank: it was just such a huge positive feedback on the team racing from last year [2261.09] Frank: that we just had to do that again. [2264.33] Jae: Yeah, it was good for me. [2266.17] Jae: It was pretty tense, but I enjoyed it. [2267.89] Jae: It was my first ever race, but most of my team weren't able to fly [2271.41] Jae: with, you know, whatever reason. [2273.45] Jae: And so I had to keep on running up and it would have been more fun [2276.05] Jae: if I had that pressure alleviated by the rest of my team [2279.01] Jae: didn't just abandon the whole idea, but it was a really good fun. [2282.61] Jae: And yeah, guaranteed, even if you haven't tried before [2286.77] Jae: and you want to submit as a team, it would be quite interesting. [2289.73] Jae: But it depends on how many team registrations are available, doesn't it? [2292.29] Jae: As to who snaps them up. [2294.45] Frank: Yeah, but there's the moment there's still plenty of room. [2297.77] Jae: So but it is teams of four. [2299.65] Jae: You can't have less than teams of four, can you? [2301.49] Frank: I believe it is not teams of three or two or two. [2308.29] Frank: Nor five. It shall be teams of four. [2311.73] Jae: And individuals will just, you know, I mean, there's still going to be [2317.21] Frank: opportunities for putting in some lap times as individual races. [2322.13] Frank: But if you want to join the actual team racing on the Saturday, [2326.29] Frank: that's going to be kind of picking up quite a bit of the headline space [2330.89] Frank: on the Saturday, then definitely it's teams of four. [2335.01] Frank: It sounds so exciting. [2336.05] Frank: I'm going to have to get my ticket soon. [2337.65] Jae: And I know a lot of people from my local area will be coming down [2341.21] Jae: and joining in the festivities. [2344.53] Jae: And has anyone built a circular plane yet to copy what we saw at Flightfest? [2349.17] Jae: Who's been tinkering away in the secret shed? [2351.57] Frank: Oh, the big donut thing flying through it. [2354.57] Frank: Yeah, that'd be good. [2357.05] Frank: Yeah. If anyone's got one, get in touch. [2361.05] Jae: Logistically, it seems like you're going to have to manage [2363.45] Jae: a lot of the frequencies at the time. [2364.73] Jae: And I know that people may want to fly other fields, [2368.77] Jae: but you're still testing to whether you can have on 25 [2371.69] Jae: really what two different parts of the site or. [2375.33] Frank: Yeah. So we've we've had some brief testing, but we need to do. [2380.29] Frank: We don't want to kind of say that's going to be fine [2382.65] Frank: and then find out that it's not. [2384.77] Frank: So we're going to have to do a bit more in-depth testing. [2387.93] Tony: I've tested it. It works. [2391.33] Tony: Depending on what field you're in, though. [2394.01] Tony: Yeah, exactly. [2395.77] Tony: Yeah, I know. [2396.77] Tony: It is totally tested. [2399.53] Tony: I do know if you're in one particular field [2402.81] Tony: and you turn on in another particular field, you'll be fine. [2406.25] Tony: But we've got Don Robinson, I think, joined us. [2411.93] Tony: Yeah, that's where I'm popping in. [2414.25] Tony: Is he there? No, no, he might be in the chat, but no. [2421.02] Tony: Don, hello, anyone? [2423.9] Tony: Oh, yeah, I thought we had him on. [2426.54] Jae: He might be. [2427.18] Jae: He might be on in a second. [2428.06] Jae: My friends make funny noises as well. [2430.06] Jae: At least he's not beeping like on a previous episode. [2432.3] Jae: I think at least 10 quads died. [2436.06] Dom: It's curious, am I? Am I in the chat? [2437.98] Tony: Very. Well, there we go. [2442.1] Dom: I thought it was lurking somewhere in the background. [2444.54] Jae: Well, let's go home. Let's join out. [2446.7] Jae: I mean, I don't think you've been to this. [2447.9] Jae: This has to be residing now on our own channel. [2450.26] Dom: I lose track of where I've been. [2453.58] Dom: I have no idea. [2457.3] Dom: Wherever the wind blows me. [2459.42] Dom: I'm trying to conversation with Tony in the pub the other night, [2461.54] Dom: but I think it was on the phone. [2464.54] Tony: It was on the phone. [2466.26] Dom: It was a bit late to be calling me. [2468.38] Jae: Yeah, I'm sorry, Don. [2469.86] Dom: That's all right. No, that's good. [2471.42] Dom: You just caught me in the phone. [2473.14] Jae: I mean, obviously, Dom, you're for people who don't know you, [2476.58] Jae: but a lot of people do. [2478.1] Jae: You're the man behind Hidden Valley [2482.38] Jae: and how this idea of yours to fly came something much, much more. [2488.34] Dom: Yes, certainly kept me busy for the last year or so. [2492.3] Dom: I think since since I suppose the events of last summer kicked it off, [2499.82] Dom: it's it's definitely surprised me how many people have wanted to come down [2503.22] Dom: and fly down there and how many have been through, [2506.38] Dom: even even though we'd had a year or so quietly operating it before [2510.38] Dom: and trying out a few events and so on. [2513.74] Dom: I had no idea that we were going to see, I think, [2515.82] Dom: something like six hundred flights through there over. [2519.46] Dom: When you add spotters with a bit of fanciful conjecture, [2524.86] Dom: you end up with with by my estimation, about six hundred flights there. [2529.66] Dom: In the year we opened. [2531.54] Dom: Wow. I mean, so yeah, it was busy. [2534.58] Dom: We've got got enough of a core membership to keep it rolling. [2538.66] Dom: Mm hmm. So yeah, it's been it's been in its own right. [2543.58] Dom: It's washed its face and it's been a success, which has been good, you know. [2549.7] Jae: But when people three hours away are like saying, [2552.62] Jae: oh, you know, the buzz of it and the whole idea of it [2555.26] Jae: and that the place that it is is caused that buzz amongst a wide community. [2560.26] Dom: Yeah. And obviously, we let thrown out with a great community focus. [2563.62] Dom: It's it's it's obviously been a nice anchor spot for people to fly for that. [2567.94] Dom: But it's actually been there's been lots of other things going on as well. [2570.82] Dom: We've had quite a lot of participation from the university [2575.42] Dom: or both universities locally. [2578.5] Dom: And we've had some really interesting interactions [2580.38] Dom: with a whole wide range of sort of stakeholders [2583.38] Dom: and people who've shown much more interest in it really broadly across the space, [2587.98] Dom: you know, right from the local local community and local schools. [2592.78] Dom: They've been amazing. [2594.1] Dom: In fact, it was one of the local schools [2595.38] Dom: that really kicked the ball in motion by letting us do the letting us do [2599.26] Dom: some of the first International Drone Day events a while ago. [2605.18] Dom: But on top of that, we know the governors and the local community of networks. [2610.22] Dom: But we've also had a lot of support from people like the CIA. [2614.1] Dom: Sounds like a credit roll this, doesn't it? [2617.78] Dom: Yeah, it sounds like a credit. [2618.9] Dom: There's there's an awful lot of people who have all universally been really supportive. [2623.98] Dom: So it's been it's been an interesting year, [2627.22] Dom: probably easier than I think I was expecting it to be, to be honest. [2634.26] Dom: But it's as as far as no. [2636.58] Dom: And one of the reasons why I asked if I could grab a few minutes [2639.94] Dom: on the show tonight is we've definitely hit an interesting technical challenge. [2645.78] Dom: You kind of expect coming from the fly community, [2649.1] Dom: that's going to be something to do with the flight. [2652.38] Dom: But it's not really. [2653.26] Dom: It's about running an activity in a place. [2657.06] Dom: Which is quite complicated and brings up lots of issues about fair use of the space [2662.34] Dom: and so on. And it's become an interesting juncture really for the project, [2667.74] Dom: because we've got to now pitch ourselves exactly right. [2670.9] Dom: We've got to present ourselves right and not not get riled by the frustration [2675.66] Dom: we can't just operate and listen to all the views and make sure that we get all [2680.3] Dom: the parties on our side and understand what we do with flight. [2683.98] Dom: And whether it's drones, quads, gliders, it doesn't matter. [2689.3] Dom: It's a it's an element that I think a lot of people don't normally explore in their [2693.22] Dom: lives. And the news is pre prejudiced and predisposed with a lot of people to [2697.82] Dom: to look at people who can kind of master the air as if they're weirdos and they [2701.5] Dom: want to put them in a box somewhere. [2703.86] Dom: So we've definitely hit a frustrating hiccup. [2709.06] Dom: But if we play it right at this point as a community, I think we're going to I think [2715.46] Dom: we're going to probably win quite an important victory because there's an awful [2718.14] Dom: lot of people who are hoping we win and hoping we get a clear right to just [2723.7] Dom: continue what we're doing. [2727.18] Jae: Yeah, I mean, the actual space that it is and everything like that, it's it's it's a [2732.9] Jae: desire that many of us have is that what we all have as a community that we want [2736.74] Jae: someone to fly and actually having it as a legal framework, even if whatever happens [2740.98] Jae: that, you know, it's going to happen all over the country where people want to fly. [2744.98] Jae: And it was a quite a model to show how it could be done properly as, you know, [2750.62] Dom: getting everybody I think, I mean, you know, I've said this on I think on on here [2755.94] Dom: before, but I've said it before, you know, there's something that reminds me of 15, [2760.5] Dom: 20 years ago, and I started working with MP3 when it was just emerging. [2764.18] Dom: It was highly disruptive and everything to do with the technology got tainted with [2768.98] Dom: piracy once Napster happened, which actually was nothing to do with the [2771.58] Dom: technology. It was just the way people were playing laws with each other and a [2777.86] Dom: new technology and a new way of doing things was coming in. [2780.34] Dom: And in a strange way, I think drone has come to mean a sort of small subset of [2784.98] Dom: model flying, which is disruptive and changes the way we can do things. [2789.82] Dom: And that that has all sorts of implications and raises all sorts of issues. [2796.58] Dom: And it's it's hidden value with hidden value. [2799.1] Dom: We've really tried to go out of our way to make sure we talk to all possible [2802.46] Dom: parties that we think it might involve. [2805.38] Dom: Essentially, I think we missed an individual, but that's the way it goes. [2808.7] Dom: You know, there there would always be somebody who finds it challenging. [2815.94] Dom: And what we've got to do is try to not get right, arise in that because it is all [2821.14] Dom: unchartered waters. There's an awful lot of other people who actually hope it goes [2825.06] Dom: quite well. But there's a lot of people equally. [2827.94] Dom: I think they're kind of reticent to put their head above the parapet with an [2831.06] Dom: unknown. There's an element of risk in supporting something. [2834.78] Dom: So we've just got to make that as risk free as possible for them, which is which is [2839.1] Dom: what we've been trying to do, you know. [2841.26] Jae: Yeah, I mean, whether from the evidence of what you've been doing down there, I know [2845.26] Jae: there was SSSI sort of interesting things in it, how the actual site and the [2851.06] Jae: management of it changed over time to accommodate what actually came up over [2854.86] Dom: that last year. So, yeah, so we, you know, we were always aware that we were right in [2859.46] Dom: the middle of a very beautiful spot. [2861.14] Dom: And we had to we had to bear in mind that as much as that was an attraction for the [2867.22] Dom: flyers, as also has been an attraction for a lot of people for a long time. [2870.98] Dom: And it's it's beautiful because it's really wild relative to this area. [2875.42] Dom: At least it's really wild. It's not the outback in Australia or the rainforest in [2880.26] Dom: Brazil. But you know, it's got an interesting and rich abundance of local [2889.62] Dom: wildlife. And we've worked really hard with the local with a number of different [2893.74] Dom: local conservation organisations and natural England and people like that to [2897.94] Dom: understand what the risks might be and to try to between us keep an eye on those [2903.54] Dom: risks and flyers have been wicked. [2905.86] Dom: You know, we shut down Tony or Bouch for this. [2908.1] Dom: We shut down a couple of our different areas that we fly in for periods when we knew [2913.98] Dom: that there were rare or unusual birds nesting there in nesting season. [2918.46] Dom: We have to regularly do that sort of thing because of course it's a working farm. [2921.82] Dom: So there's times when it needs to operate as a working farm. [2925.5] Dom: We have to just go like, you know, you can fly over two and a half thousand sheep that [2929.26] Dom: are penned into little pens, but it's going to stress them out better to give them a [2932.5] Dom: birth, you know. And so we've been quite, you know, I'd vouch that we know the [2937.78] Dom: countryside and land management there better than most, not not nearly as well as [2941.54] Dom: the as our hosts, the farm and the community around that. [2945.06] Dom: But we're learning quickly and listening. [2948.02] Jae: So, John, there's a site near us that was an abandoned site, but the security would [2954.06] Jae: allow fliers to go there because having flies there would generally stop the graffiti [2958.58] Jae: and the other collection of years that were causing just a problem. [2962.18] Jae: I mean, has that sort of obviously when it had more traffic through for Hidden [2966.82] Jae: Valley, is it sort of did it change anything? [2969.18] Jae: Did you notice any of the changes? [2971.34] Dom: Yeah, absolutely. [2972.98] Dom: A bunch of things happen. [2974.06] Dom: Some of the kids who are a bit bored and were getting involved in some of that, you [2978.62] Dom: know, scrambling on crops and things like that lost interest. [2981.98] Dom: And strangely, they actually one or two of them turned up asking about drone flying [2985.38] Dom: wanting to get involved. [2986.98] Dom: The other mark difference is that vandalism, crop trampling, gates being left open, [2991.42] Dom: the people who generally don't walk with dogs on leads, the horse riding in areas [2997.78] Dom: where you shouldn't horse ride, unauthorized access with motor vehicles, a whole [3003.22] Dom: list of stuff has stopped down there. [3006.78] Dom: And that's just by our presence. [3008.34] Dom: We don't have to be. [3011.14] Dom: I've never had any negative engagement with anyone down there. [3016.06] Dom: And it feels like when we turn up and we're using the space and the way we use the [3020.78] Dom: space, it feels like we're really enhancing the countryside to an extent. [3025.3] Dom: Yeah, there's a bit of change going on and we have to be mindful of that. [3029.9] Dom: But I haven't seen a flyer down there. [3031.94] Dom: He doesn't respect pretty much everything else as a higher order, you know, back down [3036.66] Dom: for the back down for the crops, they'll back down for the farm, they'll back down [3040.82] Dom: for the wildlife, they'll back down for the riders, everyone. [3043.62] Dom: Yeah, most of the time we're there on our own in a small group and we can fly in [3048.26] Dom: peace, which is has been awesome. [3050.42] Jae: Yeah. And, you know, you go down the group, there's always a spotter, you're always [3054.02] Jae: flying legally, you know, that it's what it fosters the space. [3059.9] Dom: Well, you know, there isn't policy and the risk, I suppose the risk for us is that what [3065.9] Dom: happens is we become a test case here and the worst that there's sort of three outcomes [3073.26] Dom: really. Well, one, we get a no to we get a hoop put in front of us that's impossibly [3079.22] Dom: high to jump. So it looks like they've been fair, but it's just an insurmountable [3085.02] Dom: complication. Or three, we we simply get a no. [3092.34] Dom: And in fact, that becomes worse that that's enforced by change of law. [3098.18] Dom: And then there's then there's a whole I don't know what happens then I suppose it goes [3102.34] Dom: into the world of the CIA trying to work things out with different authorities. [3108.9] Dom: But that would be, I think, an outrage if they did that. [3112.78] Jae: See, already there's a commercial aspect of the CIA having to contend with is moving [3116.62] Jae: forward through their roadmap. [3117.98] Jae: But, you know, it'd be interesting that I think I think I think creating creating [3123.3] Dom: organised spaces where people feel welcome to actually just creates a nice sinkhole [3127.7] Dom: where everyone can go cool, I can relax here and know how to fly here. [3132.18] Dom: And I'm not annoying anyone else and people who might pass by know we're here before [3136.26] Jae: they get there. That's kind of a 21st century skate park. [3141.3] Jae: I can be there. [3144.18] Frank: Hence the official names. [3145.7] Frank: Every council up and down the country will be trying to find somewhere to to set up a [3150.26] Frank: drone spot. [3152.9] Dom: It's about the cheapest thing you could imagine setting up in some ways for a council. [3156.38] Dom: You know, OK, we as an organisation, we're turning over, I don't know, maybe it may be a [3160.74] Dom: grand and a half or something. [3162.06] Dom: And I've probably put in, I don't know, a couple of hours, maybe half a day a week of [3168.42] Dom: reaching out to people and engaging various stakeholders for a year and a half, which is [3173.86] Dom: a fair time commitment. [3176.46] Dom: But for a leisure planning officer to create something like that, which can, you know, [3180.54] Dom: give a place a really neat way to manage a problem, it's a pretty cheap way to do things. [3188.3] Frank: And it supports the whole, you know, the other side of the drone hobby or the coding and [3193.58] Frank: electronics and all of this kind of thing that goes into it that, you know, knowledge [3198.02] Frank: economy and the way things, you know, oh, yeah. [3201.02] Dom: I mean, we've got we've got well, you've been down there doing loads of modelling, Jay, and [3204.74] Dom: we've had, you know, we've had the universities doing some different research projects. [3211.38] Dom: We've had some private enterprise. [3214.3] Dom: We've had some private enterprise companies coming to do some testing down there. [3220.5] Dom: And we've got various different pros, including the police, they signed up to use it as a [3224.78] Dom: training site as well. [3226.58] Dom: So it's complicated anyway, it's interesting. [3230.46] Dom: And it was I suppose at some level, it was bound to hit this roadblock. [3235.1] Dom: I think it would be a travesty if something mechanically prevented it from happening at this [3241.1] Dom: stage. But we're going to see it through and we just got to be patient and not get into a [3244.98] Dom: great sort of mission about it at the moment. [3249.3] Jae: Often great festivals, a great spot to have a fallow year, you know, it's however long it [3253.58] Jae: takes, isn't it? [3255.18] Dom: Yeah, I don't think it's going to take that long. [3256.66] Dom: No, I think it's going to take probably weeks now. [3258.9] Dom: But it has been quite one of the things that has been going on actually for quite a while. [3263.02] Dom: It's been an interesting fencing batch, a match. [3265.86] Dom: It's a, you know, it's raised lots of interesting issues. [3271.5] Dom: We don't change the land at all. [3273.34] Dom: We don't leave anything permanently there. [3274.82] Dom: We don't do anything persistently. [3276.86] Dom: We don't make noise persistently. [3279.78] Dom: You know, there's we don't disturb the nature. [3282.02] Dom: I think we're in a pretty strong place, really. [3285.5] Dom: But there's obviously one or two people who are kind of religiously averse to something that [3288.9] Dom: they can call a drone, which is which is challenging. [3294.5] Jae: I mean, I was just flying the other day recently in my local area and I was flying in and some [3298.94] Jae: lady, it was recent surveillance and nuisance, you know, the recent news and the lady stopped [3303.94] Jae: me and I could see her taking it along to the gearing of does it have a camera? [3307.38] Jae: She asked, does it have a camera? [3308.38] Jae: I said, yeah, I only had an FPV camera on it. [3310.38] Jae: So I said, that's when to see where it's going. [3312.5] Jae: And I could see her leading it towards like what she said. [3315.18] Jae: Can you see people? [3316.18] Jae: And I thought, I know where you're going with this. [3317.62] Jae: And I said, no, no, no, people about size of ants and cars are about size of people, you [3323.02] Jae: know, explaining the technology. [3324.1] Jae: And it's interesting how people's perceptions of these things, they just think they can [3327.78] Jae: spy on everything that they, you know, and it's that's that's got to change. [3332.02] Jae: But places like Hidden Valley allowed people that had never seen it before to come up and [3336.62] Jae: see on a screen and actually be amazed by everything down there rather than actually [3340.1] Jae: reading it from a paper to get a bit of news on that. [3342.58] Jae: Hold on a sec. [3343.66] Dom: Just one second. I need to just move my mic a second. [3346.34] Jae: Yeah. [3347.74] Frank: And this is exactly the sort of thing that we want to do with Mini Airshow and International [3353.5] Frank: Drone Day is just get people to actually see what we can actually do with these things, [3358.3] Frank: what they're actually like, what we can actually use them for and see that they're not big, [3362.98] Frank: scary, horrible things that are spying on you. [3365.14] Frank: They're these, you know, interesting, fun, useful tools and toys and and that's the way [3372.66] Frank: they should be. Even lifesaving. [3374.9] Frank: Yeah. [3378.65] Dom: Indeed, it's kind of I think it's kind of complicated painting over painting the good [3384.13] Dom: picture. I think it's an important aspect, but the people who are kind of religiously [3388.41] Dom: against it, they they they face a different belief in what it is. [3395.97] Dom: They don't they don't see it as a as a something that can do good. [3400.21] Dom: They just see it as something that can be bad. [3401.93] Dom: They kind of filter out the positives. [3404.09] Dom: And I think for that reason, it takes a lot of educating and I don't think it's necessarily [3408.25] Dom: about them showing people having fun with it. [3410.73] Dom: I think that's part of the story. [3412.89] Dom: I think that what they what they what they really need to see is it it affected directly [3419.05] Dom: affecting their lives with a benefit. [3421.49] Dom: Yeah, that's really difficult to do when people kind of just have no connection with that [3426.97] Dom: type of technology at all. [3428.81] Dom: You know, very non-threatening things can seem threatening unless they unless they have an [3433.81] Dom: immediate utilitarian purpose in that person's life. [3437.53] Jae: And especially to the many old people in usually the decision making places that are just [3441.13] Jae: waiting for their pension to come through in retirement. [3445.37] Dom: Yeah. [3447.37] Dom: Yeah, I think it's I think it's easy, easy to donate those guys. [3450.53] Dom: You know, actually, they make a lot a lot of a large contingent of the drone for the leisure [3453.89] Dom: drone flying community as much as anything. [3460.41] Dom: But yeah, it's it's it's it's got its challenges. [3463.89] Dom: It's and we've got to be sympathetic to them as well. [3467.45] Dom: If we just block them out, we're going to have to go and buy warehouses everywhere. [3471.13] Dom: The problem with that is I think that's a great idea, but I'm not I'm I'm not seeing the [3477.17] Dom: continued growth of the sport at that speed. [3480.61] Tony: I think that and I can't fly indoors. [3484.49] Jae: Well, and not only that, we'd be buying more bits from overseas that are manufacturing these [3489.05] Jae: motors that we keep on knackeying. [3492.85] Dom: I don't know about you guys, but my print, as you know, I can't hit an airgate with my with [3497.17] Dom: a guidance system, right? [3500.69] Dom: But but I like, you know, one of the reasons I like flying is I like getting off the ground. [3505.29] Dom: I like exploring that three dimensional space and it makes a difference when you fly and you get [3509.45] Dom: that moment where you're not pulling tricks or trying to do something technical and you just [3514.21] Dom: take a take a look real time at the most beautiful landscape and take a breath and go, [3520.57] Dom: I'm here. Wow, that's awesome. [3523.25] Dom: And that that that essence of it for me needs outdoors. [3527.81] Dom: It needs big space. [3530.61] Jae: It does. It does. [3533.33] Jae: You know, someone who can actually get us during the chat, you might be listening in. [3538.13] Jae: It's none other than Thomas from VMS Web. [3541.85] Jae: Welcome to us. [3543.21] Jae: Hey, you know, I think we should actually do a different screen. [3547.37] Tony: You know, you know, yeah, you know, you need to do this. [3552.97] Tony: Now you need to be the stew. [3555.25] Tony: Go on, do this. Do you want to get out? [3558.13] Thomas: And let me just get a stew here from UAV Futures. [3564.37] Thomas: And today we're with a drone out. [3570.97] Jae: You've got so many media conference and that's the things now I'm guessing that you can't even keep up, [3575.93] Paul: can you? Pardon, sorry. [3579.65] Paul: It was it was crazy, actually, because we didn't think that people would be as interested as they [3584.09] Paul: were with that. I mean, it was fun. [3585.29] Paul: It's just one to get together with us. [3586.93] Paul: Probably what would you say six or seven months now? [3590.09] Thomas: Yeah, it's been a while. [3591.25] Paul: Well, he's only been he's only been an hour and a half away from us. [3594.29] Paul: So it's not that it's not too far away, but it was just trying to organize a time that would actually work out. [3599.49] Paul: And then finally Thomas was on school holidays and we got in touch with that with each other. [3604.21] Paul: And we got together. That was awesome, wasn't it? [3605.89] Paul: It was. [3607.21] Jae: Yeah, I mean, he's got quite a name for himself, really. [3611.53] Jae: He's got that catch mark at the start, which is all important for a good YouTube channel. [3615.01] Jae: And then he's got, you know, there's this wall that keeps on growing with new cards, new cards, new cards, new cards. [3619.65] Jae: But down to earth. [3621.49] Jae: That is an epic wall. That wall is insane. [3627.05] Jae: So, yeah. So, Thomas, you've been doing very well lately. [3630.01] Jae: Do you want to tell us about your achievements and stuff? [3631.77] Jae: Because you've had the summer, the joint season and now it's coming to the end. [3635.37] Jae: What are you being? What are your achievements and highlights of the year or year? [3639.93] Thomas: As in for 2016? [3641.77] Jae: Yeah, to what, 2017? [3643.65] Jae: 16, 17, isn't it? [3645.09] Jae: We're lucky. We've just got it in one year. You're over there. You've got to split it. [3649.89] Jae: 16, 17. [3651.17] Thomas: OK, so the 16, I mean, that's really when the racing for me kicked off. [3655.69] Thomas: So, I mean, I had going to Dubai, going to Hawaii, somehow managing to get the AU Nationals. [3663.77] Thomas: Don't know how to pull that off, but apparently things weren't right. [3666.77] Thomas: So that was good. [3669.81] Thomas: Then there's the UTT tracks where we gave them a go. [3673.93] Thomas: That was wicked. That was heaps of fun. [3675.77] Thomas: If anyone hasn't done the UTT tracks, you should give them a go. [3678.61] Thomas: They are some of the scariest tracks because seeing a quad fly that quick through gates [3684.37] Thomas: because they're pretty straight line is terrifying. [3689.21] Thomas: Like it's only complete opposite end of the spectrum. [3691.81] Thomas: You're terrified. You're terrified. [3694.81] Thomas: It is. [3696.81] Thomas: But it's something that I think everyone's going to give a go. [3699.81] Thomas: It's because the tracks, they're inherently quite a simple design. [3703.81] Thomas: But because of that, the only way to get a fast time is to go right to the very limits. [3709.81] Thomas: And so because of that, you are traveling through their gates so freaking quick. [3716.81] Thomas: I mean, next time we need to record a video, if we do it again, of what it looks like from third person, [3723.81] Thomas: it doesn't look human at all. [3726.31] Thomas: Like compared to all the tracks we normally do. [3728.31] Thomas: Oh my gosh, the quad to moving quick. [3730.61] Paul: It's just trying to pick up time at every single turn. [3733.51] Paul: And any any parts where you would normally back off, where it would be logically or logical to back off, [3739.11] Paul: you've got to actually get rid of that fear and just keep pushing through. [3742.51] Paul: And I know when I watch him do it, it's just it's especially the UTT ones. [3746.21] Paul: When we get together to do that, they're pretty crazy to see. [3748.81] Thomas: UTT one's the scariest by far, in my opinion, because the quad doesn't. [3753.61] Thomas: It's like at least with the other ones, if you crash, you know, the worst you're going to do is break a prop with UTT one. [3759.31] Thomas: Like you can expect a frame to go if you clip anything. [3762.81] Thomas: Yeah. [3763.41] Jae: Yeah, definitely. [3764.21] Thomas: But it is also so fun. [3765.41] Thomas: Yeah. [3766.41] Jae: Yeah. [3767.31] Jae: I mean, this is your top 10 training tips then to I mean, you can't give away all your secrets. [3773.71] Paul: Actually, I don't think there are any secrets. [3775.71] Paul: That's that's the only I think people sort of think there's [3778.81] Paul: I sort of liken it to Arnold Schwarzenegger where he said to become a really fantastic bodybuilder, [3785.01] Paul: all you have to do is three things, just three things. [3787.41] Paul: And it's applicable just about any sport is basically have your diet is going to be really good. [3791.61] Paul: You've got to train really hard and you've got to sleep. [3794.31] Paul: So if you can do all those three things all the time, then you could essentially be the greatest bodybuilder ever. [3801.41] Paul: But it's so hard to do that all the time, isn't it? [3804.01] Paul: I mean and your what you do, I mean go through some of the tips that you have and I mean like there's no real secrets. [3810.21] Thomas: Is it not really? [3811.81] Thomas: I mean, I guess it's like anything. [3813.11] Paul: It's just stick time and you know being obviously I mean, you tend to analyze a lot of what you do and try and work out where you can improve. [3822.21] Paul: I mean sort of typical things that you would do with I suppose with any form of racing, isn't it? [3828.81] Jae: I suppose now it's how accurate you can get your timing through segments and you know, [3833.51] Jae: timing system in general, how accurate you're going to get it. [3835.41] Jae: And I suppose this is still it's going to get to the point where you're in shaving point, [3839.91] Jae: you know, zero something of a millisecond off around a corner and things like that to improve on speed. [3845.61] Jae: And I suppose that's the point where at what point they're going to have the investment in the technology to monitor it to improve these things. [3852.31] Jae: I mean we are still really at the start of the whole racing around the world. [3860.01] Thomas: Yeah, it's definitely I've got to say in 2017 and our two clubs have got in Melbourne, [3865.11] Thomas: the scenes picked up a lot specifically the racing side where we've got heaps of new members coming in and they're not slow either. [3871.71] Paul: You should probably explain the dynamics of what we've got as far as racing goes and now local sort of two clubs and sort of explain that. [3878.21] Thomas: Yeah, okay. [3878.71] Thomas: So in probably what's considered our main racing club MMRC, we've got four divisions right now. [3886.21] Thomas: So we've got the C division, which is like any new parts that have just came in or if you've gone through and you know, [3893.71] Thomas: you've kind of stayed at that kind of lower tier, that's kind of where you sit. [3897.31] Thomas: And that's where you have to go through some gates, but not all then we've got B division. [3902.51] Thomas: There's a pretty big range of parts in B division, but generally they can all go through gates like fine and all the racing there is pretty competitive. [3911.41] Thomas: Like usually end up with, you know, one, two, three, four finish. [3914.81] Thomas: Yeah. [3916.51] Thomas: Then there's A division, which is absolutely nuts because a lot of those guys can hit full throttle still through straights and stuff like that. [3924.61] Thomas: So you're seeing these quads blipping around through gates like crazy and A division is probably our biggest division. [3931.01] Thomas: And then we've got the super class, which is just kind of I guess generally the faster people. [3939.41] Jae: Yeah, I think it's good to have that structure though, because that way it's easier for people to come in and not feel so swamped by all the pro pilots that are still just fine the same course. [3949.81] Jae: And actually that class division, I think is a good idea. [3952.41] Jae: It is. [3954.41] Thomas: I'm not sure about the naming system with super class. [3956.61] Thomas: I mean, maybe that should just stay as A division and then everything else kind of followed. [3961.41] Thomas: But I mean, it does work. [3963.41] Thomas: So we do generally get now a lot more closer races in the other club. [3968.11] Thomas: We've got Eastside. [3969.51] Thomas: They've now switched having eight quads at once all on legal bands in Australia industry. [3974.21] Thomas: We've got some bands that we can't jump on in some frequencies. [3978.11] Thomas: And so we've got everyone right next to each other and I have no idea how we're pulling it off, but we've got eight quads at once on neighboring channels on a track. [3989.61] Thomas: And we don't actually have too many midair collisions, which is not too many. [3996.81] Thomas: I did not expect it to actually work out this way. [4000.01] Thomas: So but it's that's hectic. [4003.31] Thomas: There's eight quads at once on a small track because our tracks in Australia are generally quite small, especially in Melbourne. [4010.61] Thomas: It's my Melbourne. [4013.11] Jae: I wouldn't have thought that though for Australia. [4014.51] Jae: I would have thought because you've got larger parks and things. [4018.11] Jae: With barbecues, gas barbecues everywhere that you could should be able to have bigger tracks that you can probably potentially set up for. [4024.81] Thomas: Oh, you could definitely go for bigger tracks. [4026.61] Thomas: I know in Sydney, so in one of the other like kind of cities in one of the other states, [4034.31] Thomas: they generally do really big tracks compared to what we do and lots of massive straights, [4038.81] Thomas: not quite like the Hawaii level couple hundred meter straights, but still a lot more up in that category. [4048.51] Thomas: I think it's just in Melbourne too. [4050.91] Thomas: I know that's just the path we've gone now more technical making the tracks smaller and more difficult over time rather than bigger and more straight line. [4059.91] Jae: Yeah, I suppose it's the type of flying that you're comfortable with, isn't it? [4062.81] Jae: I mean a lot of people like Tony, you don't like the technical ones. [4065.31] Jae: You like the faster ones, don't you? [4067.41] Tony: Yeah, man, I like going 78 mile an hour. [4071.01] Tony: The small courses are fine and if you're outside, I can't do them inside, but I prefer, you know, full throttle going really, really fast. [4083.31] Tony: And I think people who come and view us and watch like you going past, you know, rather than stop over a gate through over a gate. [4094.11] Tony: Okay, that's the point. [4096.31] Tony: I just think that for people who are viewing it, the bigger tracks and the faster and the bigger crashes are more fun. [4103.81] Thomas: But there's no reason why it's just like, why does UTT1 look epic? [4108.51] Jae: What is that saying? [4110.11] Thomas: I guess it's kind of like, why does UTT1 look so insane from third person? [4113.71] Thomas: And that's because it is quite a big track where the quads are at full throttle for multiple seconds. [4119.81] Tony: Yeah, which is fun, fun, fun, fun. [4123.41] Jae: And I still sort of watch some of the freedom class. [4126.41] Jae: I think they're going to force a different size ratio because at the moment, I mean, what sort of, you're flying the helix, aren't you, at the moment? [4133.51] Thomas: I'm flying the helix, yeah. [4136.21] Thomas: Yeah, I'm just building a six inch and actually it's, I just realized it's finished. [4140.81] Thomas: All I need to do is put the most required receiver in and get it all flashed and ready to go. [4145.31] Tony: So yeah, it's so fast on your five inch anyway. [4152.21] Tony: Oh my God, you're going to be quick. [4154.91] Thomas: Yeah, the six inch one, I've got actually can't take six inch props there because of the way I've got it set up. [4159.01] Thomas: So I need to fix that. [4160.21] Thomas: But that'll be later. [4162.31] Thomas: I'm not going to be using six inch on it anyway. [4163.81] Thomas: So I'm not yet. [4166.61] Tony: You also launch off the start. [4170.61] Tony: You are very, very quick. [4172.51] Thomas: Yeah, it's kind of funny because that's like a lot of the guys in our club can launch even quicker. [4187.31] Thomas: I don't even know how they rotate off the ground that quick. [4191.01] Thomas: But in so many of my videos, I'll have to do a compilation of just like quads in view because we do tend to get some pretty crazy like chains of quads flying at once. [4202.41] Thomas: And the take offs, it's so interesting, especially with a lot of people in our club are using the four bladed props. [4211.11] Thomas: And so crazy acceleration, but they cap out quick. [4215.11] Thomas: And so I've got so many videos of you see a whole bunch of quads in front of me in the first and all of a sudden the quad just kind of slowly catches them all as they cap out. [4224.21] Thomas: And so it's interesting when you see that and you just kind of go, okay, that guy's using four bladed prop four bladed prop up. [4229.11] Thomas: That person must be using someone something different because he's still pulling away going to proper moment, by the way, Thomas. [4236.21] Thomas: Okay. [4237.31] Thomas: So right now I'm using four different props now. [4240.01] Thomas: It was only three, but now I just know what I like. [4242.71] Thomas: So right now I've got my guess my still three main race props would be the Rotoride Edition five by four by three props. [4253.21] Thomas: Specifically the Rotoride Edition because for some reason they fly better than the other ones. [4258.21] Thomas: I don't know why, but I guess it must be mauling or something. [4262.21] Thomas: And they're only for tight tracks. [4263.41] Thomas: They don't have too much top end speed, but their cornering is insane. [4267.81] Thomas: And so on a track that's really cornering heavy like the last Eastside meet we had that prop would be really, really useful. [4277.61] Thomas: Then there's my main go-to prop for now, which is the HQ 5045 V3s. [4283.41] Thomas: They're a new HQ prop and they're really nice and balanced where they've got really good top end speed. [4289.11] Thomas: Not quite racecraft level like in say a hundred meters straight. [4293.11] Thomas: The race crafts will pull away by quite an amount, but they've got a lot more than what the Rotorides do and they've also got cornering still. [4301.81] Thomas: And so for a lot of our tracks, they're really balanced. [4305.21] Thomas: They're the V3s, aren't they? [4306.91] Thomas: They're the V3s, yeah. [4308.21] Thomas: So the ones that look kind of diamondy shaped if you look at the prop. [4311.61] Jae: And they aren't, I mean, they're quite durable. [4314.31] Jae: Have you found the durability? [4315.41] Jae: Yeah, they're really durable. [4318.21] Thomas: They're like as in like they're probably carbonate like they tend to just bend. [4323.21] Thomas: I know some people like to bend them back. [4324.71] Thomas: Generally, if we bend a prop, I still take it off just because you know, it'll be out of balance after and not quite the same bit. [4332.21] Thomas: I mean, you can without a doubt do what a lot of other people do and bend them back and like bend all the damage in the leading edge and make it all flat and smooth again, which I've had done for a race before. [4343.31] Thomas: But I generally still switch props and just use it more as okay. [4346.81] Thomas: I've crashed in a race. [4348.11] Thomas: Okay. [4348.41] Thomas: All my props are working. [4349.31] Thomas: I'm going to take off and keep going. [4351.01] Thomas: So we haven't covered the other practice. [4353.01] Thomas: The other prop is the racecraft 505 ones. [4359.41] Thomas: Okay. [4359.91] Thomas: Yeah. [4360.41] Jae: It's like Vegemite or Mama. [4363.11] Thomas: Yeah, well, they're an interesting prop where if you run them like I was originally, they feel terrible. [4370.91] Thomas: Yeah, which is basically using them at the kind of what 30 to 60% throttle range where they just they feel quite wishy-washy. [4379.41] Thomas: They don't seem to power through the turns very well and then for I tried for like a whole day to try and get them work. [4385.31] Thomas: I was like, this doesn't make any sense. [4386.81] Thomas: What's going on? [4387.81] Thomas: Then all of a sudden I got really fed up did a massive punch out for it over on that and the quad stayed a hundred percent locked in like nothing I'd ever felt and I was like hang on what just happened there? [4397.91] Thomas: What it turns out was and I guess it's just the way they design the prop. [4401.41] Thomas: It's really geared around that top-end speed and using that kind of at least with my throttle expo setting that 70 to 90% throttle range. [4409.41] Thomas: And so when you hit that throttle range, they become crazy locked in and really really fast. [4415.91] Thomas: And that's why I think what they geared around for that more top-end speed. [4419.21] Thomas: So for a track like Hawaii where they had big straights, the race crafts are currently really just I mean, they've got the top-end speed like nothing else. [4428.61] Paul: I don't think anything would come close with it. [4430.31] Thomas: Yeah, so like on the tracks with MMRC, they're not the most perfect but I mean on a big track right now, I don't think. [4440.11] Thomas: Yeah, I mean there might be quote quote props that get closer now because I know some people have been trying to make up more props for that kind of range of track. [4449.41] Thomas: But at this point in time, I don't think there's anything with the same top-end as the race crafts. [4455.21] Jae: Was that three or four? Pardon me. [4459.21] Jae: You haven't mentioned. Was that all your different props? I thought it was four. [4462.81] Jae: All right, four. The new one. This is so interesting that your take on it. [4468.01] Jae: That's why it's good for your different reasons why you've got these props you carry around. [4472.21] Thomas: It's awesome. Okay. [4473.51] Thomas: And this one I actually just ran out of my sets because I only got a couple and then I simultaneously destroyed them both. [4479.21] Thomas: But the V1S four-blader props. [4483.21] Thomas: Excuse the polycarbon ones. [4485.41] Thomas: Yeah. So they're kind of like in that roto ride edition prop category again, but even more extended where it's got really good cornering now, but it caps out instantly. [4497.21] Thomas: And so for racing, I don't really use it, but it is an insanely fun prop to use and just trying to get time out of everything else is I mean, it's a really fun prop. [4510.41] Thomas: It's one of those props that the quad just feels like a go-kart. [4512.71] Paul: That's just a confusion with infinite bite. [4514.81] Paul: It started confusion with the video we did with Stu because everyone saw him with quad blades and then I all of a sudden assumed he was using quad blades every single race and it wasn't. [4523.71] Paul: Do you just use the quad blades to make it a bit more fun with Stu didn't you? [4526.61] Thomas: Yeah, they're a lot of fun. [4528.21] Thomas: Like if you can get your hands on the four-blader V1S props, they fly really well. [4533.81] Thomas: The three-bladed V1S, I don't like too much. [4536.41] Thomas: I find that the top throttle range on 2400 kV motors, they make this really crazy sound and then they lose efficiency. [4544.31] Paul: But that is kind of like the racecraft under which people either love them or they hate them. [4549.31] Paul: It just doesn't work for me or other people will turn around and say, oh my God, this is just fantastic. [4554.71] Paul: And they just love them, isn't it? [4555.91] Thomas: Yeah, but with the V1S, it was weird. [4558.51] Thomas: It was like I'd hit that top throttle and make the really weird screeching sound and all of a sudden I'd have to just back off throttle. [4565.41] Thomas: And then all of a sudden I get power again. [4567.31] Thomas: So I think on my motors I'm running, they might be running a little past what they're designed for or maybe it's just I'm not good at controlling them, [4576.21] Thomas: which is more probable because I only flew them for three packs and I thought, no, I don't like this. [4580.71] Thomas: I'm moving on. [4581.71] Jae: So maybe there needs to be a BMS web sort of Thomas edition, which is the best of you. [4591.41] Paul: There are some things in the works where Zong is actually working on some props with us. [4597.91] Paul: But yeah, I don't think they're going to be a Thomas prop as such, but you've had a lot of input in them, haven't you? [4603.91] Thomas: Yeah. [4604.91] Paul: So I was just trying to find that right prop that I think is... [4607.91] Paul: But look, I think like anything, you may find a prop that Thomas may like, but I think there will always be a handful of props that you're going to use depending on what the track is or what you're trying to achieve. [4619.91] Paul: Whether you're doing acro or racing. [4622.91] Thomas: And also a big thing is preference too. [4624.91] Thomas: I mean, a lot of people in our club too don't generally go towards the more aggressive props. [4630.91] Thomas: For me, my setup is based around having the quad as aggressive and as agile as possible. [4636.41] Thomas: And then basically just being like, okay, so now you can't complain about the quad being slow or incapable because you're flying now. [4643.91] Thomas: And then a lot of people too. [4645.91] Thomas: I mean, I guess it's kind of like what the whole stretch thing is based around, which is trying to smoothen out the pilot and try and clean out some kind of pilot era. [4656.91] Paul: And that's why some people use racecraft. [4658.41] Paul: They'll like it because it'll actually smooth out those bad inputs at the lower end. [4662.91] Paul: It does. [4663.41] Paul: So some people will race with a racecraft at lower end, which isn't efficient. [4666.91] Paul: But because it's smoothing out those inputs, all of a sudden they're taking better lines, aren't they? [4671.41] Thomas: Yeah. [4671.91] Thomas: And it's like, you can't say they're flying worse or it's worse for them because you look at the times, it's an improvement. [4678.41] Thomas: You look at the consistency and it's an improvement. [4680.41] Paul: And that's the other thing I think people look at and trying to work out what's the best prop. [4684.41] Paul: And there is no such thing because it's really dependent on the individual. [4687.41] Paul: I mean, I've raced racecrafts on a track where Thomas wouldn't use racecraft. [4693.41] Paul: Mind you, his times were heaps faster than mine. [4695.41] Paul: But then I might jump onto another prop and my times will be better than what they were before. [4699.91] Paul: So in that instance, at that point in time, those props were actually better for me than what Thomas was using. [4708.91] Tony: I'm like Stu. [4709.91] Tony: I like the V2 Cyclones. [4714.91] Thomas: They're a nice prop. [4717.91] Jae: But even the 5045, on the 5046, I fired mostly 5045. [4722.91] Jae: They were the go-to prop and I tried them and my quad felt more responsive, like you're saying. [4727.91] Jae: And I loved it. [4729.41] Jae: It just had that magic combination of everything I liked. [4732.41] Jae: And for my flying ability or style and things, I loved them. [4737.41] Jae: I tried. [4739.41] Jae: I haven't looked on. [4740.41] Thomas: Sorry, Jay. [4741.41] Paul: The Dalby 2s are pretty nice props. [4743.41] Paul: The Dalby 2s? [4744.41] Paul: Yeah. [4745.41] Paul: They're really nice props. [4746.41] Thomas: There are definitely no props. [4747.41] Thomas: But even I had a problem with your prop. [4749.41] Thomas: I've got sunlight. [4751.41] Jae: You need to have spare props. [4753.41] Jae: You've already got four sets. [4754.41] Jae: You want some spares of each one. [4757.41] Jae: There's a car full of spare props. [4760.91] Jae: Oh, we've got a lot of props. [4763.91] Paul: We've got a lot of props. [4764.91] Jae: And especially if you change them after you've bent one slightly, you can put it in the pile. [4768.91] Paul: Yeah. [4769.91] Paul: Yeah, I think Thomas is just maintaining, making sure those motors are going to last as long as possible. [4773.91] Paul: Because he gets a hell of a lot of usage out of his motors, more than most people. [4776.91] Paul: But then again, I know he babies the crap out of him. [4779.91] Paul: Like a prop spend, he'll check them and quickly change them over. [4782.91] Paul: And as a result, his motors will last down. [4785.41] Paul: And they'll last long in the mine anyway. [4787.41] Paul: Yeah. [4788.41] Tony: He's obviously doing something right. [4790.41] Tony: Because he's winning quite everything I've watched on your channel. [4794.41] Tony: He's like, Thomas, one, Thomas, one, Thomas, one again. [4798.41] Tony: Which is awesome. [4800.41] Paul: This is the funniest thing. [4802.41] Paul: Because he started year 12 this year. [4804.41] Paul: I'm not sure whether he covered this or not. [4805.41] Paul: But Thomas, because I went away to drop off my wife shortly, dropped off at the train station. [4810.41] Paul: But he has started year 12. [4812.41] Paul: So it's been a really hectic year. [4814.91] Paul: That's the last year, isn't it? [4816.91] Jae: Year 12 is the last year of high school. [4818.91] Paul: So he's coming to the first race meet. [4820.91] Paul: And I think he'd hardly flown, probably flown once that week. [4824.91] Paul: And he's like, oh my god, I'm just not confident. [4826.91] Paul: Blah, blah, blah. [4827.91] Paul: So he went through and actually won that race meet. [4829.91] Paul: And we thought, oh, that's good. [4831.91] Paul: And he's going to me, oh, everyone's going to catch me at the next one. [4833.91] Paul: Did you see the gap? [4834.91] Paul: Blah, blah, blah. [4835.91] Paul: I'm not feeling confident. [4836.91] Paul: The next race meet comes along. [4838.91] Paul: He does the same thing again. [4840.91] Paul: But the margins are a bit bigger now. [4841.91] Paul: You know what I mean? [4843.41] Paul: And the last few race meets, I mean, you haven't done much in the way of flying. [4846.41] Paul: So I'm not sure exactly how the hell he can be improving when he isn't flying as much [4851.41] Paul: as he probably would like to. [4853.41] Paul: So that's kind of been strange. [4854.41] Paul: I'm not sure what he's doing now, what the secret is. [4857.41] Paul: Because it's got me totally bamboozled. [4859.41] Jae: I mean, do you get much stick time on the Sims and stuff? [4861.91] Jae: Like, for practice, do you use any in particular? [4864.41] Thomas: Um, not anymore. [4866.41] Thomas: I used to kind of midway last year. [4868.41] Thomas: But as of recent, I haven't really touched the Sims. [4871.91] Thomas: Um, I may occasionally go on liftoff or something just to see how the development of that's going. [4877.91] Thomas: Um, other than that, though, really, do I play on the simulators? [4883.91] Jae: See, over here, we have winter and it's very cold wet and horrible and probably, you know, [4887.91] Jae: it's much worse than the winters in Australia. [4889.91] Jae: We probably have, you know, your rain's heavy, but it doesn't rain as much. [4893.91] Jae: Anyway, so we have more of a need in the UK. [4895.91] Jae: But we're coming into our season where we can get up at 6am and go flying in the morning. [4900.41] Jae: And it's already sun up. [4902.41] Jae: So, are you still looking to fly over the winter over there? [4906.41] Jae: Do you have to make adjustments to your flying? [4908.41] Jae: Or are you still going to get a lot of stick time? [4910.41] Thomas: In winter, it's more just, I guess, for us, it's really cold. [4914.41] Thomas: It's our cold. [4915.41] Paul: But we're pretty wimpy by everyone else's standards. [4919.41] Paul: I'll complain about how terrible the weather is and how it's freezing. [4923.41] Paul: And people will look at the videos, like, from Europe and all that and say, [4927.41] Paul: but there's no snow. [4928.41] Paul: I can't see anything. [4929.41] Paul: How cold could it possibly be, you know what I mean? [4931.91] Paul: Well, it's like about 3 or 4 degrees Celsius. [4933.91] Paul: And they're like, that's not cold. [4934.91] Paul: That's up below zero, you know. [4936.91] Paul: It doesn't get to minus 4. [4938.91] Jae: I mean, they have wood burns. [4939.91] Jae: A lot of people put those in Australia, outside of Australia. [4942.91] Jae: Yeah. [4943.91] Jae: I know. [4944.91] Thomas: But our weather's very, very unpredictable. [4947.91] Thomas: That's probably the biggest issue we have where we can have it, right, [4952.41] Thomas: overcast in the morning. [4954.41] Thomas: Then it's really heavy downpour. [4956.41] Thomas: Then it's bright and sunny and all the water and stuff's dried up off the ground. [4960.41] Thomas: And then all of a sudden, it's raining again. [4962.41] Thomas: And then it's sunny again. [4963.41] Thomas: Where it's like all in the one day. [4965.41] Jae: Tropical. [4966.41] Jae: Tropical, I suppose. [4967.41] Paul: Yeah. [4968.41] Paul: Just the unpredictability of that's all. [4970.41] Thomas: That's more in Melbourne, though. [4971.41] Thomas: I mean, we go to Queensland, which is where they're holding the Nationals this year. [4974.41] Thomas: Like, the weather there is so consistent. [4977.41] Thomas: Like, FPV dream, as far as consistency. [4982.41] Jae: You're moving soon, aren't you? [4984.41] Paul: And we've thought about it. [4985.41] Paul: I can assure you we've really thought about it. [4987.41] Jae: Yeah. [4988.41] Jae: Yeah. [4989.41] Jae: Well, if you ever need one to fly in the rain, we can put you in touch with someone that [4991.41] Jae: does have to go along with a windscreen wiper. [4994.41] Jae: Yeah. [4995.41] Jae: Let's see. [4996.41] Paul: I think we're having it. [4997.41] Paul: There's actually waterproofing quads. [4999.41] Paul: We haven't really tried it, as in conformal coding and all that sort of stuff. [5004.41] Paul: And I think it's something that we need to actually learn about more and find out if [5007.41] Paul: there's any impact with conformal coding. [5009.41] Paul: Say, a BTX, does it actually throw the tune out a little bit or not? [5015.41] Paul: You know what I mean? [5016.41] Paul: They're the sort of stuff that we've got to research and try to understand better, [5018.41] Paul: because we definitely don't understand that, do we? [5020.41] Thomas: Yeah. [5021.41] Thomas: Even my knowledge of tuning is so little now compared to all the stuff you could do, [5024.41] Thomas: like filters and stuff like that. [5026.41] Thomas: I have no idea how those work. [5027.41] Thomas: I need to learn them, because all my recent tunes have gone not well. [5032.41] Thomas: No. [5033.41] Jae: Not well as in non-existent, or just you're not getting into the nth degree that you want it. [5041.41] Thomas: Just not getting the nth degree. [5042.41] Thomas: I can get them part the way there, but then just trying to get that top-end speed to tune [5046.41] Thomas: properly has been so difficult. [5048.41] Thomas: Even on setups that I already have, where I've just thought, you know what? [5051.41] Thomas: This setup worked before, so I know there's nothing wrong with the motors or anything. [5055.41] Thomas: Let's try tune it. [5056.41] Thomas: And then it's like, okay. [5057.41] Paul: I think his line style has actually changed quite significantly since then. [5061.41] Paul: And I think that could be the reason why things aren't working. [5063.41] Paul: And even his Acro, I mean, we had N.J. down here. [5066.41] Paul: His Acro is not actually flying slow, you know what I mean? [5070.41] Paul: It's not that big of an Acro. [5071.41] Paul: It's freaking insane over-unders where he's powering through the over-under, [5074.41] Paul: you know what I mean? [5075.41] Paul: So it's not like he's letting it quite sort of float over a tree. [5078.41] Paul: The only time he cuts throttle is if he's doing an inverted yaw spin or something like that, [5083.41] Paul: and he wants as much airtime. [5084.41] Paul: Most of the time, that throttle's actually on. [5086.41] Paul: So I think his flying style has actually changed. [5089.41] Paul: So as a result, the old tunes aren't working that used to work before. [5094.41] Thomas: He got affected by N.J. [5097.41] Thomas: That was amazing. [5099.41] Paul: Yeah, it was really good having N.J. over here. [5101.41] Paul: But unfortunately, the day he came over, he was stuck doing the sound check for the concert. [5109.41] Paul: And then that delayed him by about an hour. [5111.41] Paul: And by the time we left where he was, we were stuck in traffic most of the way to get to the park. [5116.41] Paul: Then we finally got there, had our flight, and it was absolutely fantastic. [5119.41] Paul: Had a great time with it. [5120.41] Paul: And then spent like another hour and a half driving him back again [5122.41] Paul: because it was just bumping above the traffic. [5124.41] Paul: But I think at time with N.J., it was really, really quite cool, wasn't it? [5128.41] Paul: I mean, like, I mean, you guys know what he's like. [5130.41] Paul: For us, it was meeting someone new. [5132.41] Paul: I mean, you know him online, but that's about it. [5135.41] Paul: But then meeting the person and actually chatting with him. [5138.41] Paul: But even being in the car with him, I mean, that's probably one of the good thing about this hobby, [5142.41] Paul: just chatting with people, you know what I mean? [5144.41] Jae: Yeah, and meeting people that you wouldn't have come across any other way, generally. [5147.41] Jae: You know, the different walks of life that all come together for is common. [5150.41] Paul: And that's the irony with this. [5152.41] Paul: I mean, you haven't met someone. [5153.41] Paul: I mean, like, N.J. is a classic or even Stu. [5156.41] Paul: We'd never actually met him. [5157.41] Paul: He was just, I mean, he could have been no different to you guys. [5159.41] Paul: We've spoken a little bit, but you've never actually met the person. [5162.41] Paul: But then when you do, you're like best buddies and everything just clicks. [5165.41] Paul: You can laugh about this and things that you have in common. [5168.41] Paul: That I think is what really drives the hobby and makes what we do so unique. [5174.41] Paul: Exactly. [5176.41] Paul: Yeah. [5177.41] Jae: The people, the community comes together. [5179.41] Paul: I mean, we don't know you guys. [5181.41] Paul: We have met you guys. [5182.41] Paul: But I'm 99.9% sure we could hang out with you guys. [5185.41] Paul: And it'd be like we were the best of mates and we've known each other for the last 10 years [5188.41] Paul: or something like that. [5189.41] Paul: And you'd click, you could have a laugh at Thomas and he'd have laughed at you guys. [5192.41] Paul: And it would just, the whole, everyone we meet, it just works. [5197.41] Paul: So hopefully then we will see you in the UK soon. [5200.41] Paul: I definitely want to come to the UK. [5202.41] Paul: I mean, that's one of the places that we have, look, I've never met my wife, been to the UK. [5206.41] Paul: But we've never been to the UK and it's definitely some place we want to go. [5209.41] Paul: More so now, only because we've, there's so many people that we actually know in the UK. [5215.41] Paul: And I don't know, I think Aussies and people from the UK tend to sort of put a little bit of shit on each other [5222.41] Paul: and joke around and all that. [5223.41] Paul: And I think we have that connection with each other. [5225.41] Paul: Us the convicts and all that sort of stuff. [5228.41] Paul: So as a result of that, I think we've got that unique connection, [5232.41] Paul: which is slightly different to everywhere else in the world, isn't it? [5236.41] Jae: Yeah, the shared history and now with the shared passion of FPV and flying these things. [5242.41] Paul: That's right. [5243.41] Paul: So we've got a lot of friends in the UK. [5244.41] Paul: I mean, like, I think if we came to the UK, I don't know, I mean, how long would you spend there? [5249.41] Paul: No matter what, if I spent three months in the UK, I reckon it still wouldn't be enough [5254.41] Paul: just to catch up with people. [5256.41] Paul: Absolutely crazy. [5258.41] Frank: It's the entire flying season, though, you realise? [5262.41] Paul: Yeah, I know. [5263.41] Paul: I know. [5264.41] Paul: I mean, people have been telling me about how you guys, it gets dark really quickly there and all this. [5267.41] Paul: And I'm thinking, oh my God, the stuff that we winch about, it's like, I mean, I think if you guys came out, [5272.41] Paul: you'd look at us and turn around and say, these guys are just a bunch of wusses. [5276.41] Jae: On the flip side, if you go all the way up to the top of Scotland, [5279.41] Jae: you can fly pretty much 24 hours a day in the height of summer. [5283.41] Jae: Wow. [5284.41] Jae: Yeah, it's true. [5286.41] Jae: I mean, it gets to dusk, sort of levels of light, and then it'll get bright again. [5291.41] Paul: Ah, okay, that'd be nice. That'd be really nice from that. [5294.41] Paul: That would be cool. [5295.41] Jae: Yeah, do a 24-hour stream, as Stryker suggested. [5298.41] Jae: Yes, yes. [5299.41] Paul: Isn't that what our thing did with his podcast? [5302.41] Paul: FPV Life, I think it was. [5304.41] Paul: Yeah, yeah, they did. [5305.41] Paul: I haven't seen it all yet, but it's... [5307.41] Paul: I had no idea what was going on. [5309.41] Paul: I mean, we're in Australia, we had no idea what was going on. [5311.41] Paul: Also, this podcast was going. [5312.41] Paul: We went away, came back from flying and... [5314.41] Paul: Wait a second, it's still live. [5315.41] Paul: You know, what the hell's going on? [5316.41] Paul: It's still on. [5317.41] Paul: Still on, yeah. [5318.41] Paul: I don't know how those guys do that. [5319.41] Paul: I've just got no idea at all. [5321.41] Paul: So, yeah, I think we've got invited a couple of times to go on that one, [5324.41] Paul: because we're too busy flying and doing other things. [5327.41] Frank: Well, have you had a go at the DRL tryouts? [5333.41] Frank: They're ending this Sunday. [5338.41] Frank: Is that doing well? [5342.41] Paul: Yeah, we haven't run any DRL tryouts yet, have we? [5345.41] Thomas: No. [5346.41] Thomas: Well, it's a DRL simulator, I think. [5348.41] Paul: Yeah, it is. [5349.41] Paul: It's not a simulator. [5350.41] Paul: Oh, that one, yes, yes, yes, yes. [5352.41] Paul: I think Thomas played around with that in the early days [5355.41] Paul: and tried it a bit, but that's about as far as we're going to see. [5358.41] Jae: I think, like all these sims, they've come a long way. [5361.41] Jae: Each one's come a long way. [5363.41] Jae: Some have broken along the way, [5365.41] Jae: namely Liftoff, because I think they went downhill. [5367.41] Jae: But, yeah, DRL, the recent ones, it was much better for what it came out as. [5372.41] Paul: So, the flight dynamics feel better? [5374.41] Jae: They did feel a lot better. [5376.41] Jae: Well, to be honest, I couldn't use it originally, [5379.41] Jae: because it was Spectrum. [5381.41] Jae: So, it was Tyrannus only, so anyone without a Tyrannus couldn't use it. [5385.41] Jae: Oh, that's it. [5387.41] Thomas: My DRL might be different recently. [5390.41] Thomas: Like a few, about a couple months ago, I went on DRL, [5394.41] Thomas: and just like, it keeps crashing on my computer. [5397.41] Thomas: I have no idea what I've done. [5399.41] Thomas: But, somewhere over, because I had to get my computer reformatted. [5403.41] Thomas: And so, somewhere over doing that, I think I may have lost some drivers or something. [5408.41] Thomas: And so, DRL has just stopped working on this machine. [5411.41] Paul: And you haven't really tried to get it going, have you? [5413.41] Thomas: Not really, I spent like... [5414.41] Thomas: You did have a cracker view of the records, didn't you? [5416.41] Thomas: I did have a cracker view of the records, yeah. [5418.41] Thomas: That was good fun. [5419.41] Thomas: That was a lot of fun. [5421.41] Frank: Yeah, I was just going to say about that, that on Sunday, they're closing the tryouts. [5426.41] Frank: So, the top 24 times are then going to go into a grand final race. [5431.41] Frank: And the winner of that is then going to get a $75,000 contract to go into the DRL for this season. [5438.41] Frank: And so then, the grand final for that season, I believe, is the one in Alexandra Palace in London. [5444.41] Frank: So then, you'd get a trip to London out of it. [5448.41] Paul: I think also DRL is also a perimeter too. [5451.41] Paul: It is. [5452.41] Paul: I think Thomas is underage, so he was never going to be able to go into it anyways. [5457.41] Paul: That was the other issue that Thomas actually had. [5459.41] Paul: He had to be 18, I think it was. [5461.41] Paul: So, that was never going to really venture back, which is kind of a bummer. [5465.41] Paul: Because he would have loved to get out there and actually race with those guys. [5468.41] Frank: Have you seen the new DRL quad as well? [5472.41] Paul: Yes, they look really, really quite good. [5476.41] Paul: I mean, they touch bases with you. [5478.41] Paul: When they touch bases with you, was that in August last year or something like that? [5481.41] Paul: I can't remember. It was just after the Hawaiians. [5483.41] Paul: Yeah, so they touch bases with him. [5485.41] Paul: We were thinking about getting him down there to try out and all that. [5487.41] Paul: And then, everything was looking really, really good. [5489.41] Paul: Then, they realized he was 17 years old. [5491.41] Paul: And they said, oh, no, he's too young. [5492.41] Paul: So, that sort of kind of fizzled. [5494.41] Paul: So, that was kind of a bummer. [5495.41] Paul: It was a little bit of excitement there for him. [5497.41] Paul: But hopefully, in the future, he gets an opportunity to go out and do that. [5504.94] Frank: But, yeah, there's people saying in the chat as well that, yeah, [5508.94] Frank: Velocidrone seems to be very popular sim at the moment. [5511.94] Jae: I do like it. I do like Velocidrone. [5514.94] Jae: And, you know, I often think, what would happen if they actually, [5516.94] Jae: all these different independent developers of these various ones, [5519.94] Jae: they've gotten to very good standards, [5521.94] Jae: all came together to create something we'd have ultra-realistic. [5524.94] Jae: We would call perfect flight sim. [5527.94] Paul: Gosh, if we had ultra-realistic, that would be just so freaking awesome, you know what I mean? [5531.94] Paul: Wow. [5532.94] Jae: Yeah. [5533.94] Jae: Okay, one point on the Velocidrone, because I tried an early version, [5536.94] Jae: but recently they released one that's called Country of Something. [5539.94] Jae: It's like this big park. [5540.94] Jae: But the trees on a reasonable computer look like trees with different branches. [5544.94] Jae: So, you can practice that close quarter, you know, flipping over [5547.94] Jae: and not having to worry about getting it stuck. [5549.94] Jae: But developers, you stick muscle memory. [5551.94] Jae: So, they are getting to that point where if you run them at the right resolution, [5556.94] Jae: they do start to look quite amazing. [5558.94] Jae: Wow. [5559.94] Jae: So, Velocidrone's perfect. [5560.94] Paul: Yeah, yeah. [5562.94] Paul: Something definitely to try for us. [5563.94] Paul: I've got Velocidrone on my MacBook, [5565.94] Paul: but I don't think my MacBook's fast enough to run it properly. [5567.94] Paul: But it runs all right still. [5568.94] Thomas: You can use back if you want to try it. [5571.94] Paul: Aww, that's very kind. [5575.94] Paul: Thomas is always on his screen. [5578.94] Thomas: Pardon? [5579.94] Thomas: Yeah. [5582.48] Thomas: What was that? [5583.48] Thomas: I'm sorry, I think... [5585.48] Thomas: We missed what you said, so are you? [5586.48] Thomas: Yeah. [5587.48] Jae: So, we've got a mini-airshow coming up for International Drone Day. [5591.48] Jae: Are you doing anything for International Drone Day over in Oz? [5594.48] Jae: Have you heard anything on that side of the world? [5596.48] Jae: Yeah. [5597.48] Jae: Do you know anything about it? [5599.48] Paul: No, you don't. [5600.48] Jae: It started three years ago. [5602.48] Jae: It's the third year this year where that drone show in America, [5606.48] Jae: the podcast has been running a while. [5608.48] Jae: They had this idea that on one day back in March, a couple of years ago, [5612.48] Jae: that they'd start this thing to promote the fact that drones are good. [5615.48] Jae: You know, there's many aspects of it. [5616.48] Jae: We're actually nice people. [5617.48] Jae: We're not scary people. [5619.48] Jae: But there's actually many positive users of the technology as well. [5622.48] Jae: So, it's a worldwide event where people would go flying on that day. [5625.48] Jae: So, 6th and 7th of May, you'll be joining many other people around the world. [5629.48] Jae: So, I know there's teams all over the world that have signed up. [5632.48] Frank: There's one in Brisbane, one in... [5634.48] Frank: Brisbane! [5636.48] Frank: Brisbane. [5637.48] UNKNOWN: Brisbane. [5638.48] Jae: Whatever. [5639.48] Jae: Brisbane, yeah. [5640.48] Paul: I don't know. [5641.48] Paul: We don't pronounce it properly anyway, so it doesn't matter. [5644.48] Paul: Yeah, there's a few here. [5646.48] Frank: Yeah, they all seem to be that neck of the woods. [5650.48] Paul: Yeah, yeah. [5651.48] Paul: There must be something in Melbourne, right? [5653.48] Paul: There must be something. [5654.48] Paul: We'll have to have a look and find out whether there's anything happening. [5657.48] Paul: If there isn't, we could probably start it. [5658.48] Jae: Yeah, exactly, exactly. [5660.48] Jae: I mean, it's a month. [5661.48] Jae: It's a month from today, essentially. [5663.48] Paul: Yeah, yeah, so... [5665.48] Frank: Yeah, it's internationaldroneday.com. [5668.48] Frank: And then there's... [5669.48] Frank: You can join the team now. [5672.48] Frank: And you can even make a team. [5677.05] Paul: We've got this one, Tom. [5678.05] Paul: This is quite a... [5679.05] Paul: Tom is just hopping away. [5680.05] Paul: On his mechanical keyboard, making an absolute racket. [5685.05] Paul: Whoa. [5686.05] Jae: Sorry, I might have just dropped off the connection there. [5689.05] Jae: Oh, okay, I can see it. [5690.05] Jae: Okay, we've got the site up. [5691.05] Jae: This is good. [5693.05] Jae: You know, we started our original show on the Thursday night show. [5697.05] Jae: We listened to it after the show because it has some amazing things. [5700.05] Jae: And in fact, Dom has a show on there as a voice of doom. [5703.05] Jae: But we've always had technical gremlins that usually like to play [5706.05] Jae: because on Thursday nights, it's the Thursday night thing. [5709.05] Paul: Well, it's Friday for us, isn't it? [5712.05] Paul: What is now there? [5714.05] Paul: Yeah. [5715.05] Paul: So this is Friday morning. [5716.05] Paul: So what is it about? [5718.05] Paul: Not only 7 a.m. in the morning, or not 6.30 I think it is at the moment. [5720.05] Paul: So we're looking at probably going flying a little later on. [5723.05] Paul: So are we going flying today? [5724.05] Paul: Probably. [5725.05] Paul: I want to get that quad tuned up. [5726.05] Paul: He's got a new quad that he's just built. [5728.05] Paul: And he wants to try and finish it off and get that tested out there. [5730.05] Paul: So... [5731.05] Jae: You know, it's due that made me finally purchase my new one. [5735.05] Jae: I built my own chameleon. [5736.05] Jae: But he was still flying his chameleon in your video, wasn't he? [5739.05] Jae: Yeah. [5740.05] Paul: Yeah. [5741.05] Paul: He's loving it. [5742.05] Paul: I mean, Stu was just amazing. [5744.05] Paul: I mean, like we went out there. [5745.05] Paul: We had this flying session. [5746.05] Paul: We spent the morning with him first. [5748.05] Paul: Had a coffee with him and he was showing us his studio and all that. [5750.05] Paul: Good coffee. [5751.05] Paul: Yeah. [5752.05] Paul: Good coffee. [5753.05] Paul: And grounded. [5754.05] Paul: So that was really, really cool. [5756.05] Paul: But then we went out flying and they did a hell of a lot of packs by the time the day [5761.05] Paul: was through. [5762.05] Paul: Lots of props damage. [5764.05] Paul: We were buggered. [5765.05] Paul: Thomas was really... [5766.05] Paul: And Thomas was learning to drive. [5767.05] Paul: So Thomas drove up there and on the way back he goes, I'm too tired to drive home. [5771.05] Paul: So we're driving home and I think we must have been home probably for about 45 minutes [5776.05] Paul: or so. [5777.05] Paul: And I get a text from Stu saying, the video is up. [5780.05] Paul: And I'm thinking, what do you mean the video is up? [5783.05] Paul: We literally just got home and you're telling me the video is up. [5786.05] Paul: That guy's an absolute gun at getting stuff out. [5788.05] Paul: Like he just... [5789.05] Paul: I mean, he must work his butt off to produce that much content. [5792.05] Paul: It's just absolutely amazing. [5794.05] Paul: Oh, it's good. [5795.05] Jae: I mean, it is always good to watch his videos as well. [5798.05] Jae: I think... [5801.05] Jae: These reviews are just down to earth and he shows the different showcase of it. [5804.05] Jae: You know how it... [5805.05] Jae: I just relate to how his review style. [5807.05] Jae: I really like his review style. [5809.05] Paul: I like it because you see his thought process when he's actually talking about things. [5814.05] Paul: It's not like this is X, Y, Z and this is just what it is. [5819.05] Paul: And he'll turn around and say, look, I think this is good because of this. [5822.05] Paul: And I'm pretty sure it would work this way. [5824.05] Paul: You know what I mean? [5825.05] Paul: So you can see he's actually sticking it out. [5828.05] Paul: I just... [5829.05] Paul: I like his style. [5830.05] Paul: I really do. [5831.05] Thomas: It is. [5832.05] Thomas: Good for him. [5834.05] Jae: If you are listening to this, we'd like to do a g'day in today. [5837.05] Jae: We're speaking to BMS Web on our show with you, you say. [5841.05] Jae: You nailed it. [5842.05] Paul: You did that better than Thomas does. [5844.05] Paul: Thomas does not have A's in there. [5847.05] Jae: I grew up in Perth, so I kind of got that. [5850.05] Jae: Oh, really? Did you do it? [5852.05] Jae: Yeah. [5853.05] Jae: Hilary's, yeah. [5854.05] Jae: I mean, I'm from here, but yeah, I grew up there. [5857.05] Jae: So they come with the Aussie dance paper. [5859.05] Jae: So how long were you in Perth? [5862.05] Jae: Sixteen, seventeen years. [5864.05] Jae: My formative years. [5865.05] Jae: Wow. [5866.05] Jae: Yeah. [5867.05] Jae: Yeah. [5868.05] Jae: Have you been over that side? [5870.05] Paul: That's the irony. [5871.05] Paul: We haven't been to Perth and I know Vic is in Perth. [5874.05] Paul: And we've been meaning to get down there to see him. [5876.05] Paul: But this is really hard because Thomas has got school, year 12. [5879.05] Paul: So at the moment, we're not even sure what's going to happen with some of the international events. [5883.05] Paul: I mean, there's the multi GP, if you can get into that one. [5887.05] Paul: And then there's the one, I think, is it in career or something like that? [5889.05] Paul: He's going to do the Australian Nationals for sure. [5891.05] Paul: That's a given. [5892.05] Paul: Yeah. [5893.05] Paul: So he's going to do that for sure. [5894.05] Thomas: I'm trying to use this school holidays to try and get a little bit ahead of my work [5898.05] Thomas: so that I can afford to do maybe one or two big competitions. [5902.05] Thomas: And then maybe like if I do one of those, then like I just fall like onto the school level, [5909.05] Thomas: maybe a touch behind rather than like way behind because in year eleven, which is last year, [5916.05] Thomas: like it was actually like it wasn't that hard at all to go to a competition, come back, [5920.05] Thomas: spend a couple of days just like working really hard. [5922.05] Thomas: And all of a sudden, that's it. [5923.05] Thomas: You're back like to where you were before. [5925.05] Thomas: But in year twelve, if you miss one day, yeah, it's actually crazy how far behind you get. [5931.05] Thomas: Yeah. [5932.05] Paul: The education system here, I think I'm not sure what it's like in the UK, but it's kind of the work [5936.05] Paul: is just nuts. [5937.05] Paul: And I don't it's like they're just pumping out the work, but it's not focused on learning. [5943.05] Jae: Yeah. [5944.05] Jae: In the last year, year twelve, definitely. [5945.05] Jae: It's like just preparing for the exams, isn't it? [5948.05] Jae: Yeah. [5949.05] Paul: Yeah. [5950.05] Paul: And I'm looking, I think as an adult, looking at the way the school system works, it's like [5953.05] Paul: this doesn't really make much sense. [5954.05] Paul: I mean, whereas in life, are you going to get exams working as an engineer? [5959.05] Paul: No one goes and goes out and tests you and says, oh, do you remember this or do you remember [5963.05] Paul: that formula? [5964.05] Paul: You know what I mean? [5965.05] Paul: I mean, life just doesn't work like that. [5966.05] Paul: And he just realized it's so different. [5968.05] Jae: See, we had our sciatic tone and he would say that he wouldn't necessarily mention the YouTube [5972.05] Jae: channel around his peers and stuff at schools and stuff because of the he didn't want people [5978.05] Jae: to think of his review things and like thinking that toys. [5980.05] Jae: But have you found the have you found that Thomas obviously at school and people must [5986.05] Jae: know about drones and people must not everyone, obviously, but have you had any notoriety [5990.05] Jae: for being on YouTube and things? [5994.05] Jae: Nobody mentioned a thing. [5996.05] Thomas: A couple people talk about it occasionally. [5998.05] Thomas: How's the channel going? [5999.05] Thomas: Are you still flying your planes? [6001.05] Paul: They say Thomas keeps things pretty quiet. [6007.05] Paul: He won't actually come out right and actually say that he does actually do fly drones and [6012.05] Paul: he won't. [6014.05] Paul: I don't know whether it's modesty or he just doesn't want to get it. [6017.05] Paul: He just wants to keep it separate or I'm not sure what it is. [6019.05] Paul: But I know he won't come out and actually just say that he does. [6022.05] Paul: He does actually fly drones. [6023.05] Paul: I mean, they didn't know until recently some of the teachers that look, he was doing quite [6028.05] Paul: well and how serious he was taking it. [6030.05] Paul: They've only just worked it out pretty much this last few months of your school. [6034.05] Thomas: Yeah, it was so funny. [6036.05] Thomas: This is like at the start of the year, the principal walks and he's like, oh, he'd been [6041.05] Thomas: doing some big things this year. [6042.05] Thomas: It's like, I'm really proud of you. [6043.05] Thomas: You're doing really good. [6044.05] Thomas: You're going to get you in the morning and all that money. [6046.05] Thomas: It's like a magazine thing we have at our school. [6048.05] Thomas: And he's like, and he just walks off. [6050.05] Thomas: So I can say, Thomas has come home. [6052.05] Paul: He goes, yeah, the principal spoke to me. [6054.05] Paul: I'm like, what do you speak to you about? [6055.05] Paul: He goes, oh, he told me I'm doing really well and blah, blah, blah. [6057.05] Paul: At school wise, you guys didn't ask me. [6059.05] Paul: Okay. [6060.05] Paul: So you just, you ask him. [6061.05] Paul: It's like, no, I didn't ask him. [6063.05] Jae: That's a compliment. [6064.05] Jae: Just take it. [6065.05] Jae: Take it. [6067.05] Paul: Yeah. [6068.05] Paul: It's interesting. [6069.05] Paul: I mean, I think I'd love to see it more in schools adopted more because I [6074.05] Paul: think kids can learn so much from this hobby because it is technical. [6078.05] Paul: It involves research. [6079.05] Paul: I agree. [6081.05] Jae: Well, there's the math, the science, physics, engineering, you know, [6084.05] Jae: programming. [6085.05] Jae: There's so many facets and still even artistic. [6088.05] Paul: Yes. [6089.05] Paul: Yes. [6090.05] Paul: There's just so much to it that it just ticks so many boxes and you're [6093.05] Paul: learning whether you like it or not. [6094.05] Paul: And you just, you're, you're pretty much enjoying it as a challenge and you're [6097.05] Paul: being rewarded for it. [6098.05] Paul: So I think there's just so many positives, uh, with drone racing or, or [6103.05] Paul: flying drones in general, whether you're flying acro or just cruising around to [6108.05] Paul: check out sites or whatever it may be. [6110.05] Paul: There's just so many. [6112.05] Thomas: I remember last year, my physics teacher, he was really excited about the drone [6117.05] Thomas: racing and me doing it all. [6118.05] Thomas: Like he was like so supportive of it. [6122.05] Thomas: And I, it was like pretty cool because then occasionally I'd bring in like, [6125.05] Thomas: like when the race car props came out, I was like, I have a look at this is [6127.05] Thomas: kind of the new prop design that people are starting to go for. [6130.05] Thomas: And this is like what I normally use. [6131.05] Thomas: And he's having a look at the shape and going, okay, so this must be for this [6134.05] Thomas: reason and that reason. [6136.05] Thomas: That was cool. [6137.05] Thomas: He like, as far as the technical aspect of the hobby goes, he really loves that. [6141.05] Thomas: Do you want to give him a shout out? [6143.05] Thomas: You don't have to. [6146.05] Paul: Do I use his last name? [6148.05] Paul: He's his first name. [6150.05] Paul: No one's going to know who he is. [6151.05] Paul: Just use it for God's sake. [6153.05] Thomas: I was like, this is from last year, Robert. [6155.05] Thomas: He is, he's amazing. [6157.05] Thomas: He's a really good English, uh, sorry, physics teacher. [6159.05] Thomas: Like he's really, he loves the practical sense of it too. [6162.05] Thomas: So like explain something and then it will show it to you and be like, this is the [6166.05] Thomas: experience space learning. [6168.05] Jae: And you know, like anyone that's had to muck in and learn coordinates and [6172.05] Jae: building them by themselves, fat to learn about batteries and soldering and [6175.05] Jae: electronics and flight controllers and all this. [6178.05] Jae: Um, so there's a lot to learn and you can fully understand that. [6181.05] Jae: And you can fully understand anyone wanting to see or seeing it as an [6185.05] Jae: education opportunity. [6186.05] Jae: But I think it's still on slow uptake because the technology itself is so [6190.05] Jae: involved to get started. [6192.05] Jae: You can't just say here is something, you know, flies. [6196.05] Jae: There's so many bits of a different technologies to understand all of the [6199.05] Jae: components to understand, to actually get it to fly. [6203.05] Paul: Well, that's the hard thing about it, isn't it? [6205.05] Paul: Like someone new starting out, you're telling them that they've got to flash [6208.05] Paul: the firmware on a flight controller. [6211.05] Paul: Then you've got to tune the flight controller and then you need electronic [6214.05] Paul: speed controllers. [6215.05] Paul: By the way, you can actually flash firmly on your electronic speed [6219.05] Paul: controllers. [6220.05] Paul: Oh, and there are settings on your speed controller that you can adjust. [6223.05] Paul: And it's all of a sudden at this point, they're thinking, oh my God, it's not [6226.05] Paul: just flashing firmware, but I've got to play with numbers. [6228.05] Paul: You know what I mean? [6229.05] Paul: What I would do with that. [6231.05] Jae: I want to see what I'm looking at on these screens. [6234.05] Jae: Okay. [6235.05] Jae: Another thing altogether. [6236.05] Jae: Yeah. [6237.05] Jae: It's crazy. [6238.05] Paul: Really, really hard. [6239.05] Paul: It's really, really like it's full on. [6241.05] Paul: But I mean, look, I think it's challenging and I think that's what makes it [6244.05] Paul: rewarding. [6245.05] Paul: And I think everyone is actually struggling with it and even trying to keep [6249.05] Paul: up to date with the actual technology. [6251.05] Paul: I mean, it's just moving along so bloody quickly, isn't it? [6253.05] Paul: Yeah, it is. [6254.05] Paul: Yeah. [6255.05] Jae: In many facets of it. [6256.05] Jae: Yeah. [6257.05] Thomas: Yeah. [6258.05] Thomas: Yeah. [6261.05] Thomas: I recently, like literally a few weeks ago, made the jump to multi shot. [6266.05] Thomas: Okay. [6267.05] Thomas: Just like recently. [6269.05] Thomas: I love it. [6270.05] Thomas: It's really good. [6271.05] Thomas: I am. [6272.05] Thomas: I'm running on four kilohertz or two kilohertz. [6274.05] Paul: Eight and four. [6275.05] Paul: I think he's running at the moment. [6276.05] Paul: Eight and four. [6277.05] Paul: Yeah. [6278.05] Thomas: Yeah. [6279.05] Thomas: And what flight control are you running at the moment? [6280.05] Thomas: The Helix flight controller. [6281.05] Paul: Yeah. [6282.05] Paul: Yeah. [6283.05] Paul: It's built in, isn't it? [6284.05] Paul: Yeah, of course. [6285.05] Paul: Yeah. [6286.05] Paul: Yeah. [6287.05] Paul: And he's also playing with a race like for two at the moment too. [6288.05] Paul: So he's trying that out too. [6290.05] Thomas: So I'll be sure to see how that goes. [6292.05] Thomas: It's like possibly the worst quad. [6295.05] Thomas: Just put a flight controller on to see how well it can make it work. [6299.05] Thomas: Because one of our friends, Biz FPV, like he has to do a video on it one day. [6305.05] Thomas: He's got a twig, BDX twig, which is as the name suggests. [6309.05] Thomas: It's a twig. [6310.05] Thomas: It's a twig. [6311.05] Thomas: Literally the arm, like with your finger, you can just like poke the arm and it just [6315.05] Thomas: like full on moves to the side. [6317.05] Thomas: And then like you can tilt the arm, like one arm. [6319.05] Thomas: It's just so tilty and the whole thing bends. [6321.05] Thomas: It still flies well, isn't it? [6322.05] Thomas: And it flies, actually. [6323.05] Thomas: It's like the video wise. [6325.05] Thomas: You can't even notice jitters or anything. [6327.05] Thomas: Yeah. [6328.05] Paul: So we're trying to find out whether the dark side, I'm not sure whether race flight like [6333.05] Paul: us calling them the dark side. [6334.05] Paul: But anyway, finding out whether there's something unique and special about what they do. [6339.05] Thomas: Yeah. [6340.05] Thomas: So I've put it up. [6341.05] Thomas: Like it's not really a fair test, but I've put it on a quad that we know has issues. [6344.05] Jae: Yeah, that's good. [6345.05] Jae: I mean, I was just saying at the start of tonight, I'm really impressed with how it [6350.05] Jae: flies straight out of the box on a new build. [6352.05] Jae: And it's a nice build. [6353.05] Jae: So, but yeah, I was amazed, amazed. [6356.05] Jae: So interesting to see what happens with that then. [6359.05] Paul: If we can get flight controllers to a stage where you're not wasting so much time tuning. [6362.05] Paul: I mean, guys, that would be heaven. [6364.05] Paul: You know, it's just, because tuning is such a, I mean, I know some people like it, but [6370.05] Paul: it's, it is an art. [6372.05] Paul: And that's the thing that people don't realize. [6373.05] Paul: I sort of want this magical number. [6375.05] Paul: You know what I mean? [6376.05] Paul: Thomas' tune may be different to my tune, purely because of the way I fly my quad. [6381.05] Paul: Whereas if you spoke to me about a year ago, I would have said a tune is a tune. [6385.05] Paul: Maybe your PIDs might be different. [6387.05] Paul: You know what I mean? [6388.05] Paul: Sorry, your PIDs be the same, but what would be different? [6391.05] Paul: It'd be your rates and expo and stuff like that. [6394.05] Paul: But the tune should be the tune. [6396.05] Paul: And now we've actually realized that that's not quite the case either, is it? [6400.05] Paul: No. [6401.05] Paul: So it's like giving someone a paintbrush and some paint and saying paint something. [6405.05] Paul: Everyone's going to do it slightly different and there's no right or wrong answer. [6408.05] Jae: And what medium are you using? [6410.05] Jae: What flight control are you doing with it? [6411.05] Jae: Because I know KISS is different from tuning a beta flight, which is different. [6414.05] Jae: You know, so even then, it's actually an art. [6418.05] Paul: It is without a doubt. [6420.05] Thomas: And we've got our tuning guy, Zankins. [6423.05] Thomas: I think he's Zendumbo on YouTube. [6425.05] Thomas: Zendumbo on YouTube, yeah. [6426.05] Thomas: And he is the tuning God. [6428.05] Paul: He's one of those guys who, if there's a new firmware out for anything, he's on it. [6434.05] Paul: That's what I mean. [6435.05] Paul: And he's trying it out. [6437.05] Paul: He's one of those guys that tinkers and doesn't mind tinkering. [6439.05] Paul: Whereas I prefer to fly or Thomas prefers to fly. [6442.05] Paul: Yeah. [6443.05] Paul: So he's usually our go-to person when it comes to tuning issues. [6446.05] Thomas: Yeah. [6447.05] Thomas: It's like, I can't figure something out. [6448.05] Thomas: And it's like, OK. [6449.05] Thomas: I'm going on for it so I don't understand it. [6451.05] Thomas: Zankins, help. [6452.05] Thomas: Yep. [6453.05] Thomas: Yep. [6454.05] Jae: So it's quite interesting. [6455.05] Jae: And, Jay, I thought something was relatively tuned. [6458.05] Jae: And I learned to fly. [6459.05] Jae: I adapt to it. [6460.05] Jae: And I like you. [6461.05] Jae: I just much prefer to fly. [6463.05] Jae: And it's like, that's not tuned. [6464.05] Jae: It's like, OK. [6465.05] Jae: You know, a little bit later, it's more fun to fly. [6468.05] Jae: But I just get used to what it's tuned to. [6471.05] Jae: That's what I liked about race flight. [6472.05] Jae: It's probably not a perfect tune straight out of the box. [6475.05] Jae: But I'm happy to fly. [6476.05] Jae: And it's been one of the smoothest things to fly. [6479.05] Jae: So, yeah. [6480.05] Jae: Interesting. [6481.05] Paul: That's one of the things I think people focus so much on tuning and all that sort of stuff. [6486.05] Paul: And sometimes just go out and fly and just work on those skills and have fun, you know. [6491.05] Paul: If it's working, it's working. [6493.05] Jae: Exactly. [6494.05] Jae: If Tony, if Tony's actually had a lot of grief lately with his, he doesn't know how much [6499.05] Jae: luck today. [6500.05] Jae: But we won't come in there again just now. [6503.05] Jae: But get it working and just leave it. [6505.05] Paul: Yeah, it's like that, isn't it? [6508.05] Paul: But we know grief. [6509.05] Paul: We understand grief really well. [6510.05] Paul: Thomas has got no functional GoPro quads at the moment because all of them have decided [6514.05] Paul: they don't want to work. [6515.05] Paul: So he's got no Echo Quad at the moment. [6517.05] Paul: That's the plan at the moment, trying to get him an Echo Quad working and working well. [6521.05] Thomas: So I'm hoping this six-inch works. [6522.05] Thomas: If this one doesn't work, then yeah. [6526.05] Thomas: Literally, it's so stupid because I had the GoPro on one quad. [6530.05] Thomas: First, I had a normal GoPro on the quad. [6532.05] Thomas: It was working fine. [6533.05] Thomas: Then I built my new SuperDuper Helix F40 Pro Echo machine. [6537.05] Thomas: First day, insane. [6539.05] Thomas: Stopped working properly after the first day. [6541.05] Thomas: Okay, that's weird. [6542.05] Thomas: And then after spending a couple weeks, I was like, okay, I really want a GoPro Quad. [6545.05] Thomas: I'm just going to put my session on my old GoPro Quad and use that. [6548.05] Thomas: So put the session on the old GoPro Quad. [6550.05] Thomas: That doesn't work anymore. [6551.05] Thomas: It can't go beyond half-throttle. [6552.05] Thomas: After half-throttle, the power difference is just the same. [6555.05] Thomas: It just won't. [6556.05] Paul: Just do anything. [6557.05] Thomas: Yeah. [6558.05] Thomas: And it makes a really weird, annoying sound. [6559.05] Thomas: Something's wrong with that. [6560.05] Thomas: Yeah. [6561.05] Thomas: So I'm like, okay, so I'll put the GoPro then on my old aliens because they've been bulletproof [6565.05] Thomas: since the Dubai race and stuff like that. [6567.05] Thomas: And I was using them in the AU Nationals. [6569.05] Thomas: So put the GoPro on that. [6571.05] Thomas: It works well for like four packs and then all of a sudden one of the motors is let's go. [6575.05] Paul: Yeah. [6576.05] Paul: So not a smooth run. [6579.05] Thomas: Yeah. [6580.05] Thomas: So if every quad that's had the session on it, it's not working. [6583.05] Jae: Maybe it's cursed. [6586.05] Jae: Have you cleaned it in holy water? [6590.05] Jae: I think they're waterproof. [6592.05] Jae: You can just put it in. [6594.05] Paul: It's become paranoid, that's for sure. [6597.05] Jae: I had to have this theory that if I used parts from a quad that was owned by a bad pilot, [6603.05] Jae: I'd fly worse once they're attached. [6605.05] Jae: And then the same flip side, as soon as I borrowed one of NJ's old motors, [6610.05] Jae: it's like I have the spirit of NJ and I feel a lot better. [6613.05] Jae: So maybe it's the part, not the pilot. [6617.05] Paul: We're very much like that. [6618.05] Paul: We're kind of not really superstitious, but every quad... [6621.05] Paul: Well, I am a little bit. [6622.05] Paul: Thomas has got like all these rituals and stuff and what t-shirts he wears. [6625.05] Paul: And it's like, oh, I can't win a race if I wear this t-shirt. [6628.05] Paul: I've got to wear this other t-shirt. [6629.05] Paul: I've broke that recently. [6630.05] Thomas: You broke that. [6631.05] Paul: You have to break that curse. [6632.05] Paul: You know what I mean? [6633.05] Paul: It's a win with a t-shirt. [6634.05] Thomas: It's a self fulfilling prophecy, isn't it? [6636.05] Jae: If you're not careful. [6637.05] Jae: Yeah. [6638.05] Jae: So when you changed the shirt, did you still do well? [6641.05] Thomas: Oh, I didn't do it as well the first race, but then the next race I did better. [6645.05] Paul: Next race you did better. [6646.05] Thomas: And I did have a quad stop working on me when I had that shirt. [6649.05] Paul: Yeah. [6650.05] Paul: That's right. [6651.05] Paul: See ya. [6653.05] Paul: This means more testing, I think. [6654.05] Jae: This means much more testing. [6655.05] Jae: And the worst bit is too. [6656.05] Thomas: It's like, well, okay. [6657.05] Thomas: I mean, realistically, you know, it is just superstition, but then because it's just mentally [6662.05] Thomas: there, it's like, well, then it is kind of a reality that you've just, well, yeah, like [6666.05] Thomas: you said, it's self fulfilling where you've now... [6668.05] Paul: You've convinced yourself it's going to go wrong and it does go wrong. [6671.05] Jae: Yeah. [6672.05] Jae: So this is my idea, right? [6674.05] Jae: You have a placebo that makes you faster reactions, like, I don't know. [6678.05] Jae: And you believe you have faster reactions in a race, but how are they ever going to test [6681.05] Jae: for that? [6682.05] Jae: Not that they test for anything at the moment anyway, but what I'm saying is the placebo [6686.05] Jae: is a powerful effect. [6688.05] Paul: Oh, without a doubt. [6690.05] Paul: Especially what we do is just so... [6693.05] Paul: I think it's more mental based. [6695.05] Paul: I mean, especially with racing, most people just crack under pressure. [6700.05] Paul: I do. [6701.05] Paul: I fly terrible when I race. [6704.05] Paul: Thomas seems to handle it quite well. [6707.05] Paul: And it's just the nerves. [6708.05] Paul: It's just being able to, you know, you've got adrenaline, your thumbs are shaking, and [6712.05] Paul: all of a sudden you've got this quad now, you're putting random inputs that you don't [6715.05] Paul: want to put in. [6716.05] Paul: And it just progressively gets worse. [6717.05] Paul: Well, that's what it feels like for me anyway. [6719.05] Jae: I think it comes back to what you said earlier as well with like, I don't know, [6722.05] Jae: talking about it and saying, like, if you want to be a bodybuilder, what you're putting [6724.05] Jae: into your body, like, if I have a coffee too soon before flying, I'm a bit jittery. [6728.05] Jae: I'm a bit too wired. [6729.05] Jae: So I think it's also, you know, it's different for different people, but if you're just [6733.05] Jae: going up to the start line, you probably don't want to have that high caffeinated [6737.05] Jae: right before you're about to start and the heart pumping. [6740.05] Jae: Thomas just had it. [6742.05] Paul: You were busted to go to toilet, weren't you? [6744.05] Paul: It was like before the race. [6745.05] Paul: You couldn't get a delay because dad, I'm busted. [6747.05] Paul: I go, well, they're going to go on. [6748.05] Paul: And it took them like another, what, half an hour before they went on. [6751.05] Paul: And then as soon as the race was finished, Thomas was gone. [6754.05] Paul: You know what I mean? [6756.05] Paul: It was like, where'd he go? [6757.05] Paul: Where'd he go? [6758.05] Paul: He'll be back soon. [6759.05] Paul: You know what I mean? [6760.05] Paul: So it's kind of funny like that when things like that happen. [6763.05] Paul: But yeah, look, it's a really, really fascinating sport in that sense. [6768.05] Paul: It's just, I just find it just interesting that the psychological part of it is such [6774.05] Paul: a big thing that people don't put much emphasis on. [6778.05] Jae: Yeah. [6779.05] Jae: And even the physiological part, have you drunk enough water before you're racing? [6782.05] Jae: Is your body really, you know, your brain firing and everything at its optimum by [6786.05] Jae: being hydrated? [6787.05] Jae: And I suppose you'd have a quite an issue with that in Australia through [6790.05] Jae: dehydration. [6792.05] Jae: Oh yeah. [6793.05] Paul: Without a doubt, especially when we get our hot summers. [6795.05] Paul: I mean, our hot summers getting very, very hot. [6798.05] Paul: So hence, yeah, you've got to make sure you're hydrated. [6801.05] Paul: You know what I mean? [6802.05] Paul: So you've got to be careful with all those sorts of things, aren't you? [6805.05] Paul: Yeah. [6806.05] Jae: Yeah. [6807.05] Jae: I mean, having, having goggle sunburn just on the cheeks. [6811.05] Paul: It's not on the eyes. [6813.05] Paul: We're seeing that. [6816.05] Paul: My wife's told me off. [6817.05] Paul: He didn't put sunscreen on. [6818.05] Paul: Well, I thought we were in the shade most of the time. [6820.05] Paul: But, you know, it's just, you know, it's moved over and you can't tell. [6825.05] Jae: Yeah. [6826.05] Jae: Yeah. [6827.05] Jae: Well, I suppose it's winter. [6828.05] Jae: You're not going to have as much of that sunshine now. [6829.05] Jae: And you're quite safe now. [6831.05] Paul: No, we should be right. [6832.05] Paul: I mean, we've had good weather these holidays, which is kind of strange because [6836.05] Paul: normally when Thomas is on two weeks school break, we should get the most. [6839.05] Paul: We just get the most horrendous weather. [6841.05] Paul: It's like the weather just turned sour on us. [6843.05] Paul: Yeah. [6844.05] Thomas: Like on the lead up to the A national's last year, like we had school [6846.05] Thomas: holidays just before. [6847.05] Thomas: And that's when I was going to do all my training. [6849.05] Thomas: And we had two weeks of rain nonstop. [6854.05] Thomas: So we never actually flew a pack, really, did you? [6856.05] Thomas: Yeah. [6857.05] Thomas: And it was like a few days before Hawaii. [6858.05] Thomas: I was like, okay, let's see if these quads are working. [6860.05] Thomas: Okay. [6861.05] Thomas: Cool. [6862.05] Thomas: They're working. [6863.05] Paul: Okay. [6864.05] Thomas: That should be paired enough. [6865.05] Thomas: And that was it. [6866.05] Thomas: Oh, no. [6867.05] Paul: Hawaii. [6868.05] Jae: Sorry. [6869.05] Jae: A national. [6870.05] Jae: Yes. [6871.05] Jae: Yeah. [6872.05] Jae: Traveling the world. [6873.05] Jae: Have you got any other plans to travel anymore races coming up in the next week [6874.05] Thomas: or two? [6876.05] Thomas: We've got, so we've got the A national's coming up. [6879.05] Thomas: We've got one in Sydney. [6880.05] Thomas: We've got one in Sydney and then there's a qualifiers for the one in [6886.05] Thomas: Korea, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to do the career. [6890.05] Thomas: And it really depends on whether I can get my schoolwork and stuff. [6893.05] Thomas: Like if I can get ahead so that if I can get ahead, then I will go for it [6897.05] Thomas: because like, well, well, my competitions are fun. [6901.05] Paul: He'd like to get many different Koreans and actually have a good run. [6904.05] Paul: You haven't had much, much luck with any of the international ones. [6907.05] Paul: Have you? [6908.05] Thomas: No, I haven't. [6909.05] Paul: It's like you've been cursed, isn't it? [6910.05] Thomas: Eventually. [6911.05] Thomas: He wants to, he wants to break that curse. [6912.05] Paul: So yeah. [6913.05] Thomas: Well, yeah. [6914.05] Thomas: And also meeting everyone is so cool. [6915.05] Thomas: I'm just catching up. [6917.05] Thomas: Like, especially when you just like see people there, it's like, oh, like [6920.05] Thomas: there's a bunch of guys from the Dubai race that I met once. [6923.05] Thomas: And we didn't get to speak much like to them. [6926.05] Thomas: And then in Hawaii, where we'd just be like, you know, it's been hours, [6930.05] Thomas: just chatting and, you know, chilling out and what's been happening [6935.05] Thomas: where we're from. [6936.05] Thomas: And that's a fun part of the hobby, especially in the world. [6940.05] Jae: Yeah. [6941.05] Jae: That's the worldwide community, isn't it? [6942.05] Jae: It's the names you probably don't even get to see at the big events. [6945.05] Jae: You know, people that got to the worldwide events are generally the ones [6948.05] Jae: that made it through the ranks. [6950.05] Frank: So yeah. [6952.05] Jae: Well, if you're ever in the UK, don't forget on the sixth and seventh, [6955.05] Jae: we have mini S3 tickets on now. [6958.05] Jae: Definitely. [6959.05] Jae: Definitely. [6960.05] Jae: Yeah. [6961.05] Jae: It's quite cheap if you get your early bed tickets at the moment. [6962.05] Jae: Yeah. [6963.05] Jae: Yeah. [6964.05] Jae: Well, maybe this time next year. [6965.05] Jae: Actually spring and summer is a nice time to come to the UK. [6967.05] Paul: Well, next year we're definitely planning on traveling because Thomas [6970.05] Paul: will have finished school at Labor uni. [6972.05] Paul: Uni will get a lot more time. [6973.05] Paul: So definitely next year is going to be a lot, lot easier for us. [6977.05] Paul: That's for sure. [6979.05] Jae: Excellent. [6980.05] Jae: Excellent. [6981.05] Jae: Yeah. [6982.05] Paul: Are you all charged up for a flight today then or are you still going to [6984.05] Paul: charge? [6985.05] Paul: We're charged up. [6986.05] Paul: We've got probably about 50 or 60 packs ready to go. [6989.05] Paul: And just decide where we're going. [6992.05] Paul: Yeah. [6993.05] Paul: Can I hear that right? [6994.05] Jae: 50. [6995.05] Jae: Yeah. [6996.05] Paul: We've got Thomas's packs and my packs. [6998.05] Paul: So it'll be about 30 packs each, but we don't normally fly 30 packs. [7002.05] Paul: I mean, but it's school holidays. [7004.05] Thomas: Yeah. [7005.05] Paul: So we'll be able to fly a few packs. [7007.05] Paul: Hopefully I'd like to have a day off flying. [7009.05] Paul: So that'd be really, really cool if we squeeze that in. [7012.05] Jae: But over here, somebody had a big leisure battery. [7015.05] Jae: So it's like a big car battery, but you can run it completely flat. [7018.05] Jae: It's like 110, 130 amp hours. [7021.05] Jae: Yeah. [7022.05] Jae: And they said with five batteries and a charger, you can fly all day. [7025.05] Jae: Yeah. [7026.05] Jae: But I haven't suggested that theory, but you've got the enough charge [7029.05] Jae: and the big leisure battery to carry the charger all day. [7032.05] Jae: And a constant charger. [7034.05] Paul: That's a good idea. [7035.05] Paul: That's the other thing we've been thinking about actually taking a big [7037.05] Paul: battery with us so we can charge. [7039.05] Paul: On a trolley or something, yeah. [7041.05] Paul: Yeah. [7042.05] Paul: But we could also go to, there's an RC club that we've got that's [7044.05] Paul: recently adopted FPV Racing. [7048.05] Paul: And we can actually go to the club and actually race there. [7050.05] Paul: And they've got power. [7051.05] Paul: I mean, they've got power there. [7052.05] Paul: It's power. [7053.05] Paul: So you can charge, bring your charger with you and just charge packs. [7056.05] Paul: That's pretty easy. [7057.05] Paul: But that does make a big difference. [7058.05] Paul: Someone said power and charge that many times in one sentence. [7060.05] Paul: Oh, no. [7061.05] Jae: Oh, no. [7062.05] Jae: Well, wait. [7063.05] Jae: We can save some power if you charge. [7064.05] Jae: And you need to have your charge from your power to power your quad from [7066.05] Jae: charged. [7067.05] Paul: That's right. [7068.05] Paul: Something along those lines. [7069.05] Paul: You think it was first thing in the morning, we're half asleep. [7072.05] Paul: I know. [7073.05] Paul: It's coming up 7 a.m. [7074.05] Paul: It's not even 7 a.m. [7075.05] Paul: Is it? [7076.05] Paul: No, it's not 7 a.m. [7077.05] Paul: It's almost 7 a.m. [7078.05] Jae: It's one minute from 7 a.m. [7079.05] Jae: Well, it's good to get up early. [7082.05] Jae: I mean, we did we did a silly thing where there's a local park that's [7086.05] Jae: full of trees and nicely mowed grass. [7089.05] Jae: And we usually get up there for about 6 to 6 30 a.m. [7093.05] Jae: Before work, have like an hour and a half fly and then head to work. [7097.05] Jae: You hopefully with a working quad, not with pieces because it's a bit [7101.05] Jae: bit tough to get to work with a quad in your desk or a brick. [7104.05] Paul: I think that's the hardest thing. [7105.05] Paul: We're going to fly first thing in the morning because if you do a flight to [7107.05] Paul: first thing in the morning and then you go to work and if you break [7109.05] Paul: something, you can't actually fix it. [7111.05] Paul: So then it's on your mind. [7113.05] Paul: Was it the air see that when or was it this like the whole day? [7117.05] Paul: You're all message. [7118.05] Paul: You want to get what the problem is. [7121.05] Paul: You just need to know what the problem is. [7124.05] Paul: Usually for me to do. [7125.05] Paul: I know it was pilot error. [7127.05] Paul: Same here. [7128.05] Paul: Same here. [7129.05] Paul: Same here. [7130.05] Paul: I don't know what he was doing with Stu. [7132.05] Paul: We were doing this over under that he does. [7134.05] Paul: And I was having trouble with the vision I was getting. [7137.05] Paul: And I started getting quicker at it. [7139.05] Paul: And usually I curse myself when I say, look, I think I've got this. [7142.05] Paul: And I've turned around and said, going through the two gates, going through [7145.05] Paul: the overrun. [7146.05] Paul: Now I'm thinking, now I think I've finally got the hang of this track. [7148.05] Paul: And as I've pulled out, I've gone straight into the trunk of the tree [7151.05] Paul: because I was trying to hold as tight as I could. [7153.05] Paul: And I thought I had the gap lined up, but I was nowhere near the freaking gap. [7156.05] Paul: I went straight to the trunk. [7158.05] Paul: So luckily I didn't destroy anything too badly. [7160.05] Jae: Ouch. [7161.05] Jae: Ouch. [7162.05] Jae: Oh, yeah. [7164.05] Jae: There is something synonymous with just breaking stuff with this. [7167.05] Jae: But it's still a fun, fun, fun thing. [7170.05] Jae: And I can't do it enough. [7172.05] Jae: I'm addicted. [7173.05] Jae: I'm addicted. [7175.05] Jae: Well, it's like a drug, isn't it? [7177.05] Paul: I mean, I don't have to tell us it is. [7179.05] Paul: It's like, I mean, you see him. [7180.05] Paul: He's got the stress of school. [7181.05] Paul: But when he goes flying, you just see that relief on his face. [7185.05] Paul: He's just so relaxed and so content. [7187.05] Paul: You know what I mean? [7188.05] Jae: You know, coming back to the flying before work, [7192.05] Jae: I found it's a good substitute for coffee if you don't have coffee in the house. [7196.05] Jae: Awake. [7197.05] Jae: Oh, yeah. [7198.05] Paul: In those goggles, I'm having a flight. [7199.05] Paul: It does wake you up. [7200.05] Paul: And then when you have a really good session just before work, [7203.05] Paul: you've only had about two or three packs you've had. [7205.05] Paul: And it's just like your day is just, you're on cloud nine. [7208.05] Paul: Nothing's going to happen. [7210.05] Paul: You've achieved a few things. [7212.05] Paul: You've done a few flights and looking forward to getting back [7214.05] Paul: and having a look at the footage. [7215.05] Paul: And it's like nothing can spoil the day. [7218.05] Jae: Okay, so I guess you could tailor that to say, [7220.05] Jae: if you haven't been flying very long, don't go for early morning flights. [7223.05] Jae: If you're comfortable enough and you're not crashing every time you go flying, [7226.05] Jae: just trade morning flights for that buzz of a day. [7229.05] Paul: Well, Thomas used to do that a lot before school, didn't you? [7232.05] Paul: We used to go into squeezing a few packs just before school. [7235.05] Paul: Yeah. [7236.05] Paul: Especially when he had free periods. [7237.05] Paul: We'd just go in early and just leave normal school time [7241.05] Paul: and then just burn a few packs. [7242.05] Paul: And that allowed him to get a, I suppose, a little bit more practice in. [7247.05] Jae: Yeah. [7248.05] Jae: I wonder if it changed the how well you did on exams [7250.05] Jae: and assignments and stuff. [7253.05] Thomas: Hmm. [7254.05] Thomas: That was interesting, actually, how that goes. [7256.05] Paul: Well, he believes that both of them go hand in hand [7258.05] Paul: because he uses both of them [7259.05] Paul: because I think the mental discipline in quads also helps him at school. [7263.05] Jae: You know, I ran a drone workshop [7267.05] Jae: and told the kids that actually their hand-eye coordination is key. [7270.05] Jae: So you tell your parents to play games. [7273.05] Jae: But as many times as you say, like the mental capacity, the agility, [7277.05] Jae: how fast your reflexes are and everything. [7281.05] Jae: Yeah. [7282.05] Jae: Definitely. [7283.05] Jae: You know, we do have to give, we have some many loyal listeners [7286.05] Jae: and we have some many loyal people to support what we do via our page. [7291.05] Jae: And we also are sponsored largely by one of those fossil stuff. [7296.05] Jae: Fossil stuff, thank you very much. [7297.05] Jae: And you've helped keep this channel going. [7300.05] Jae: And also all the other patrons that, you know, help keep this place running. [7303.05] Jae: Thank you very, very, very much. [7305.05] Jae: And everyone that listens. [7307.05] Jae: I haven't done any shout outs for a little while. [7309.05] Jae: People have all come in to listen to Thomas and Paul. [7314.05] Jae: I've lost the chat window. [7316.05] Frank: There's still the zero, there's still the Seager. [7319.05] Frank: There's still Chris and Matt Gammons, still Dazzle. [7323.05] Frank: Striker is still around. [7326.05] Frank: Yeah. [7327.05] Frank: All the usual crew. [7329.05] Frank: Jack's been in there, here and there. [7332.05] Jae: Jack has. [7333.05] Frank: Yeah. [7334.05] Frank: Thank you all for listening. [7336.05] Jae: But massive thanks to Dom Robbins for coming out from Hindi as well. [7339.05] Jae: Big thanks to all of Thomas and Paul. [7343.05] Jae: Thank you very much for joining us again. [7344.05] Jae: We'd love to have you on again. [7345.05] Jae: It's always fun to have that chat and we'll try not get as early. [7347.05] Jae: We actually ran a two hour show tonight, just so we're going to five a.m. start. [7351.05] Jae: That's a bit, bit cruel. [7353.05] Jae: Yeah. [7354.05] Jae: Next time. [7357.05] Paul: Thank you very much for having us, guys. [7360.05] Paul: Always a pleasure. [7361.05] Paul: Absolute pleasure. [7362.05] Jae: Oh, bless you. [7363.05] Jae: Yeah. [7364.05] Jae: It's good to see more of you. [7365.05] Jae: Thank you for doing well. [7366.05] Jae: Hope you did well in your studies and your driving, actually. [7368.05] Jae: I was thinking, actually, Thomas, you learned with driving. [7370.05] Paul: I thought, I didn't know you had his license. [7373.05] Paul: No, he's actually learning. [7374.05] Paul: He's on our plates at the moment, so he's got to be supervised. [7377.05] Paul: I think in a few months or two or three months, he should be right to actually go for his [7381.05] Paul: license when he turns 18. [7383.05] Paul: If I remember correctly as well, once you pass, you've got a P plate on your car. [7389.05] Paul: Yeah. [7390.05] Paul: Yeah. [7391.05] Paul: It's a red P plate. [7392.05] Paul: Yeah. [7393.05] Paul: And then for the first year, and then it's a green P plate for two years, and they can't [7396.45] Paul: drive a car beyond a certain power to weight ratio, and they've got all these restrictions [7400.61] Paul: on them. [7401.61] Paul: And I think when they're on their red P's, they can only have one passenger, and so it's [7405.37] Paul: kind of crazy. [7406.37] Jae: Over here, it's completely optional. [7409.25] Jae: Once you pass your test, you don't get notified that they've just passed the test. [7412.25] Jae: It's just, there you go. [7413.25] Jae: It's optional on green P. [7415.25] Paul: Yeah. [7416.25] Paul: That makes a lot more sense, yeah. [7417.25] Paul: So it's a bit crazier at the moment, but yeah, what can you do? [7421.25] Paul: Well, good night for that. [7422.25] Paul: And yeah, watch out for what we're getting soon. [7424.25] Paul: It'll be a pleasure. [7425.25] Paul: No worries. [7426.25] Paul: Yeah. [7427.25] Jae: Thanks so much, guys. [7428.25] Jae: Thank you. [7429.25] Jae: Thank you, everyone, for tuning in, and thank you also, our guests. [7432.25] Jae: You have been listening to Let's Throw Now with Tony Andrew, who has joined us this week [7436.75] Jae: as well. [7437.75] Jae: We're going to be sharing the Mini Air Show. [7439.75] Jae: And just a reminder, you can get your tickets as an early bed price. [7442.75] Jae: You have to go to miniairshow.co.uk. [7444.75] Jae: It's our own number of tickets. [7447.75] Jae: Also, check the follow of Facebook. [7449.75] Jae: And if you wanted to have a volunteer out, you might be able to get a free ticket to [7453.75] Jae: fly or something, or you might get some other benefit, like a big shout out on a big thank [7457.75] Jae: you and a big hug. [7459.75] Jae: Then they can send an email to miniairshowuk at gmail.com, or what was that thing you said, [7466.75] Frank: it's a Facebook page. [7469.75] Frank: There's a Facebook page or there's a contact page on the website. [7472.75] Frank: There's loads of ways you can get in touch. [7474.75] Jae: You can get in touch, but they're looking for a few people to help out with the racing [7477.75] Jae: in general. [7478.75] Jae: It's on site, so if you can, it'd be awesome. [7480.75] Jae: But we'll talk more about that as it happens in the next month. [7484.75] Jae: Thank you all for tuning in. [7486.75] Jae: You've been listening to Let's Throw Now. [7488.75] Jae: Thanks, Jay. [7489.75] Jae: Cheers. [7490.75] Tony: Bye-bye. [7491.75] Jae: Cheers. [7492.75] Tony: Bye. [7493.75] Tony: Bye.
