Join us in the chatroom and say hello [0.24] Jae: Well, hello everybody and welcome yet again to a Thursday night [4.04] Jae: Let's drone out and this week we haven't got our we've only got one regular of Tony and myself [10.96] Jae: We've got some other guests ready to join us this week [14.56] Jae: Who's been key in sort of making the mini air show happen? [19.72] Jae: Who's been 3d printing everything under the Sun? [22.92] Jae: John [27.68] Jae: John is your first ever. Let's draw now and it looks like on your hair. You've put yourself into 240 volts [33.0] John: Yeah, it's the bad power supply my printer [38.24] John: I've been charged through the laminations in my desk [44.96] John: Well this week I joke with Stewart there obviously [48.44] Jae: Yeah [49.92] Jae: Well, it's good to be on the show actually [52.0] Jae: Obviously NJ can't make it this week. We lied in the description NJ had to go sort to a family matter [57.48] Jae: But we believe everything's okay, so he'll be hopefully back next week, but in his place. We've got John [62.92] Jae: So how you both doing? [64.76] Jae: Clinton John Tony, how are we all? I'm all good [70.48] Jae: John [72.32] Jae: You've been printing lots these days everything from camera mounts to camera mounts to camera mounts [76.84] Jae: But also designing them [78.56] Jae: But that's not where you started on all this quad related stuff [82.4] Jae: Where did you first start and what were you doing to get into this stuff? I was [88.32] John: Someone sent me a link to a video on YouTube. I think it was [92.92] John: Sharpie or something. He didn't send me the link. It was the link of a video him flying obviously [97.36] John: Well, maybe you did some eating [98.68] John: I don't know and I watched the video and I thought this is the coolest thing I've seen cuz I I've got a little [104.32] John: I've got a little [105.96] John: qx an old 180 qx [108.96] John: What are they called from from e flight that I used to fly around the garden and have some fun and I saw this [114.48] John: I thought this is exactly what I want to do. This is flying to me [117.6] John: I used to fly helicopters and I've I've built airplanes and flying airplanes and and [121.88] John: Looking at the thing in the distance is all good and fun, but I was I was crap at it [125.56] John: So I needed something that was more [127.92] John: Simulator like so I just got into it. I saw these videos and I bought I bought goggles and [136.04] John: And and the ZMR following that that Kiwi guys [141.24] John: instructional videos on how to build a quad and got into it and it was [145.84] John: 2015 and and haven't looked back to be honest [151.84] Jae: Yeah [153.88] Jae: But he's been pivotal for a lot of people starting off in the hobby and I just wish I did was someone like his channel [159.56] Jae: On quads when I started I had to do the RC groups thing, which is still a good community [164.32] Jae: But yeah, and actually these days though John you're quite adept at building and tuning on yet of these things. I find I [170.96] John: Enjoy the I enjoy I enjoy the technical side of it. So I do really enjoy the building and fixing [177.68] Tony: My own quads. I don't have a service [186.56] Jae: Service of Jack and the others in the group that we were actually a member of BHBC [191.56] Jae: Hello, everyone, and I think chick is in the church, but um [194.88] Jae: NJ tech is a resident builder an expert on these things, but I'm like you John. I like to try and do it myself first [201.8] John: Yeah, there's there's the word the word that you've used there that I don't use is try. Yeah [213.56] John: I haven't I haven't built a quad yet that hadn't worked first time. So [218.36] Jae: Well, okay because you just said that you're a resident expert and and this week [222.84] Jae: It is the chat, but we're opening it up to the chat room for questions [226.68] Jae: So I hope you've got your knowledge out on it doesn't look like it with your hair at the moment [230.76] Jae: You might want to put a hat on [233.56] Jae: If you've got any questions do pop it into the chat room [237.04] John: We're but what how do I see this chat? Where's this chat? [240.04] Jae: I can post I'll tell you what I'll post the link in there if you pop onto that you'll see the live chat [245.36] Jae: I always try and keep up on it, but I'll take us in the chat [249.04] Jae: But I usually get lost in trying to make sure this feeds going out [252.04] Jae: However, if one of us looks at it, we'll get some we've got a few people in there [256.12] Jae: There's always in there part of the LDO crew [258.6] Jae: We've got Erwin zero FPV and striker Clegg is in and we've also got a newbie this week tricky tube [264.4] Jae: Who didn't actually realize that we were doing this? Let's try now [267.24] Jae: So welcome to you sir, so if you pop your questions in there [270.6] Jae: we will also see what we can do to get them answered, but once we've all been working away slaving away on building quads and [277.08] Jae: Flying them breaking them flying them flying them [281.0] Jae: Mr. Clinton has been working tirelessly on organizing a lot of stuff for the mini air show which is coming up in three weeks is it? [291.96] Clint: Was it the sick so to two weeks two days [297.0] Clint: Are you nervous a little [300.6] Clint: Oh [302.6] Tony: Yeah, we're actually phrasing because there's three people that have been key to organizing this there's [306.76] Jae: Andrew who we had on a couple of weeks ago [309.04] Jae: Clinton who've also had on but also Fraser Monterey who actually has had a [314.32] Jae: I think just kind of two shoulders and broke one in three places. So he's currently laid up in a little bit [320.84] Jae: I guess he'll be doing the heavy lifting them when he when he's on site [323.96] Jae: Has anyone heard from him lately, so I know it happened this week [329.24] Jae: I spoke to him today on messenger and he said he was okay. We were still in hospital waiting for [334.84] Jae: MRI gang [337.48] Tony: And I do know that he was he's making the nurses chuckle by walking down to Sainsbury's with two well too dislocated shoulders [345.32] Jae: How that looks? I don't know [347.32] Jae: What can we expect from this mini air show then like what sort of events are gonna be on Clinton? [353.0] Jae: I think the key one which which was the same as last year is the it's the team racing isn't it to relay racing [359.48] Clint: Which I think was yeah was massive last year and obviously bring it back this year as well with where a race in [366.6] Clint: So I think that's [368.6] Clint: The biggest [370.6] Clint: So I think that's a [372.84] Clint: Racing [378.12] Jae: It's the same four pilot teams two flying or in sort of twos is that right? Yeah, so [385.4] Clint: Teams are four and then I think it's relay based relay based racing, isn't it? So I didn't actually do it last year [392.36] Clint: So I wasn't part of a team last year. So I'm not entirely sure on [396.04] Clint: 100 percent how they run it but yeah four pilots two transponders switching the transponders [402.36] Clint: And then each team sort of going around and doing that thing I think and one egg [408.12] John: One egg [409.88] John: I think we should stick eggs on the front of the court just to make it fun. Otherwise the runaways will run away [415.0] Clint: It wouldn't be the first time would it Tony? [417.56] Jae: Tony's a big superstar, I think [420.12] Tony: We used tomatoes and I think I won that race [423.8] Jae: Uh, you did actually and I thought it was super glued [426.2] Jae: I mean there was there was uh [427.48] Jae: There's a dispute of whether it was super glue but even proven it wasn't so these teams then have teams have four [433.16] Jae: How many teams uh, is it uh going to be relaying racing and how many people are going to be taking part from the team side? [439.24] Clint: So currently we have 12 registered teams. There are four spaces left [443.64] Clint: Um, so yeah only four spaces left now and uh, two two weeks two days to register the four before it all starts [450.44] Clint: That's a lot. You got a team [454.52] Jae: Was officially my first ever race ever and [457.48] Jae: It was hair raising, but it was good fun [459.56] Jae: And actually if you've never done it before and you're scared of going against, you know [463.08] Jae: Pilots and everything people like tony and the fossil stuff team. Um, don't worry [468.44] Jae: It's actually just fun to take part and have a go [471.48] Jae: um [472.52] Jae: I know last year that the pilot or the teams that weren't so confident [476.2] Jae: They weren't counting necessarily per gate. Whereas the professional teams they were counting every gate and if they missed a gate [481.16] Jae: there was sort of penalties, but [483.32] Jae: If you there's four spaces left, make sure you sign up and have a go [487.0] Clint: I suppose one of the great things about the team racing is it takes some of the pressure off as well, doesn't it? [490.68] Clint: Especially if you're a newbie, you're not sort of always just me on my own [493.8] Clint: You have your you have the other free team members there to back you up and look after you [498.2] Jae: Yeah, john, are you prepared to have a race? Are you coming down to the event? [502.28] John: Yeah, well, it sounds like perhaps I should I I missed out last year. Well, I didn't miss out. I just didn't go [510.44] John: Well, it's it's it's hidden valley it's it's uh [514.12] John: It's a farm stall a tree and an old house with a load of sheep shit [518.2] John: But I mean there is a certain there isn't a certain appeal I suppose [522.76] John: That's about three trees four trees [526.12] John: Yeah, I think i've got i've got a bitter taste because [529.24] John: I destroyed a gopro and one of my tweakers the last time I was there on my last battery of the day. So [538.6] John: Yeah [539.96] Jae: I mean it seems to be in front of it, but it's not just the team racing as well [543.48] Jae: I think there's more racing and more events going on [546.36] Clint: Yeah, so there's going to be a solo solo racing as well. So [551.32] Clint: Um, I think we've got 14 [553.32] Clint: I think it's 42 registered solo racers to put in some times and uh, see see who's the [559.16] Clint: overall fastest on their own [562.04] Jae: Wow, but you are [564.52] Jae: Up against uh competent pilots. Don't be put off. No, but uh, hey the register is still open for the uh, [571.88] Jae: The uh, so they're racing or have you already got enough pilots for that one? [577.16] Clint: Um, so today the freestyle events have been closed off because there are 25 pilots already registered freestyle [585.16] Clint: and [586.28] Clint: With if we take an account for five minutes per pilot, which is a two-minute flight [591.88] Clint: About two minutes of flying and sort of three minutes of starting and stopping getting quads off the ground and everything. It's uh [598.92] Clint: It takes quite a lot of time. So we've kind of had to limit it to the 25 [603.32] Clint: um as for the for the solo racing we can sort of do that in spurts and just sort of make it work through throughout the [609.64] Clint: weekend, I think so [611.56] Clint: That's a bit more easy going [612.92] Clint: But yeah, I think with the freestyle, especially as a lot of people seem to want it to be [617.64] Clint: more of an event this year as well a lot of people have asked about freestyle and making sure that we [622.44] Clint: Sort of do as much as we can with it. So hopefully it'll be good [625.4] Jae: Yeah, good to see more freestyle events like popping up or the desire to have these freestyle events [631.4] Clint: Yeah, we've got some we've got some fun obstacles for up as well. So, um, we've got some towers [637.16] Clint: And some sort of pvc obstacles that people can go through and and use to make it a bit more be more interesting [645.48] Jae: Is that your your uh, homemade pvc tower by any chance homemade that is professional [651.48] UNKNOWN: I'm sorry [652.84] Jae: You know like sometimes if you're talking about food in the pub homemade's good [655.48] Jae: But you're saying that your homemade isn't professional or it is professional [660.52] Clint: That thing took me about four days to build so i'm quite proud of it. But yeah, no, we'll be using that we'll be using that tower [666.92] Clint: Um, it's it's been through it's been through hell and back and it's still going strong. So yeah, it's [672.36] Clint: Should hold up for the weekend [674.84] Tony: I'm just gonna approach any questions [678.28] Clint: A little bit [680.44] Clint: Bit of an unfair advantage I suppose but yeah a little bit. It's good fun. Actually, it really does help you work on [686.52] Clint: close quarter stuff [688.2] Clint: And and sort of timing and and trying to come back on things and everything like that. So [692.92] Clint: Yeah, it's definitely good. I think everybody should have one especially with freestyle [697.88] Jae: Just on the five minute thing not everyone gets to fly for five minutes. Anyway, I mean last time I saw a [703.32] Jae: Freestyle event done at let's run out some people crashed out within 30 seconds [707.32] Clint: I know [708.36] Clint: We still have to account so we still have to account if each pilot has two minutes to fly [712.6] Clint: And obviously they need to be able to get their quad ready take off [715.96] Clint: And then they need to land and if they do crash they still won't pick the quad up. So [719.96] Clint: If we account [721.96] Jae: If anyone's struggling to work out what to do, uh, we have our local resident egg or honor [727.8] Jae: If that's such a thing and that is john because john is the sort of person that whilst you're flying will say do a backflip [733.32] Jae: Do this do this under the tree do a massive power loop five rolls through a tree [737.48] John: Don't you john? Come on. That's how people become better pilots is because I'd tell them to do shit that they wouldn't normally do [743.96] John: Yeah [746.2] John: John take them on so who eggs you on then john? Who's I don't need egging on i'm just naturally gifted [758.28] John: Yeah [760.28] John: There was a power loop down that track in between the two big oak trees that killed that and [765.64] John: I pulled it off, but I skid-plated it and when I skid-plated it it snapped the gopro off and destroyed it [772.12] John: But yeah, I mean egging on is it's part of the fun of it, isn't it? [775.56] John: Because I know that you'll try it and i'm hoping that you'll break a quad, you know [780.6] Jae: Actually, you know what everyone secretly hopes that everyone else can't fly so they can don't have to worry about issues to fight [785.56] John: That's nice [787.24] John: Well, there's that as well. Yeah, I get more fly time if you're busy fixing a motor [791.72] Jae: I'll tell you what when you come down if you when you come down to the air show [794.2] Jae: I'll let you take my freestyle spot and I'll egg you on and you will win. How's that? [798.52] John: Well, we'll see [801.16] Jae: Don't forget everyone if you tuned in drop into the chat room [803.24] Jae: We're going to actually test john's knowledge today since he's a know-it-all and that's not his hair stacked up on end [807.88] Jae: That's just his head growing [810.6] Jae: So [812.6] Jae: Also custom mounts if you like there's a page that you need to like one of his videos and it'll do your free 3d print [821.0] Jae: Tony [822.04] Jae: Your battle scars, how are you doing? Actually? [824.2] Jae: Do you want to give us a close-up of your battle scars and see how you've been getting it all fixed up, man [829.96] Tony: I think that wow that is a good recovery [833.32] Tony: Pretty good for two weeks [835.08] Tony: Looking good. Yeah, it must be your vegan diet [838.04] Tony: Yeah, man, I think it was all to do with the vegan diet [841.72] Tony: Yeah [843.56] Jae: So yeah, have you been out flying much since that incident? [846.44] Tony: Um, i've been out a couple of times. I haven't raced yet with anyone since then but um, I think we're going [852.6] Tony: I'm going back to the [854.36] Tony: Place it happened on sunday [857.64] Jae: Oh [858.84] Jae: Scary and you're still not [861.64] Jae: I think i'd be a bit nervous going out into the track [863.8] Jae: But obviously probably rules have changed for everyone that you fly with now saying that [867.8] Tony: They definitely have changed we are no one's going on the track until everyone's either crashed out or finished racing [875.56] Jae: Uh, and if anyone hadn't tuned in and missed it tony basically, uh tried to get intimate with a quad [881.56] Jae: At about 50 60 miles an hour and obviously trying to kiss it it got it chin [888.52] Tony: Yeah, and chest it bounced from there to my chest [892.44] Jae: So you're going to be reopening team fossil stuff this year in the relay race? [896.76] Tony: We're team unorganized at the moment. I don't even think [900.36] Tony: We have um put the page properly yet. We've all our pilots are away [905.64] Tony: Everyone's away [907.48] Tony: Jb's in america [909.72] Tony: Um all the rest of the crew are away [913.0] Tony: Um on a white so [915.16] Jae: Is ed gonna be done? [916.76] Tony: Um ed's away [919.56] Jae: Everyone is we're calling um temporary members to be fossil stuff john [923.96] Jae: Do you want to be team fossil stuff for a year weekend? [927.16] John: Well, if they want to lose because I hit gates a lot or miss them if I don't feel like it [931.0] John: So yeah, i'm in I don't mind [933.32] John: If i'm there you still go you still gotta [935.96] John: Afford me a ticket for free. Yeah [944.12] Jae: So clinton obviously there's more [946.2] Jae: I heard something about an aerial art sort of gallery where people can bring along their photos that look beautiful and only taken with the drone [953.24] Jae: um [954.76] Clint: Is that something still yeah, I think so the idea where we're focusing everything in the bunkers more this year it means that we can do [962.76] Clint: sort of have tables for people to bring stuff and show off stuff and I think uh [967.64] Clint: To show off some maybe some videos and some art and photos that people have taken and aerial shots and stuff. I think that'd be [974.76] Clint: Quite a good thing to have really saw a different side of [978.04] Clint: FPV racing [979.56] Jae: Because it's not just racing or freestyling is it there's there's more people coming [982.68] Jae: There's people coming down for talks and things that it's not just a flying event. Is it you don't have to fly to turn up [989.64] Clint: No, that's the thing, isn't it? It's all about drone awareness more than anything. So [993.56] Clint: For the drone pilots out there. It's so you can sort of get together be a part of the community the massive community that is [1000.6] Clint: drones [1001.64] Clint: and then everybody else that wants to sort of see what they are and [1004.92] Clint: find out how [1006.76] Clint: You know how to get into it and what's involved and how expensive it can be [1014.76] Jae: Ain't that the truth spend your money on quads and have nothing left for food [1019.88] Jae: It's the painful game it really is [1022.92] Jae: You know what though I wouldn't swap it for anything [1025.64] Jae: it's uh [1026.6] UNKNOWN: it's [1027.56] Jae: Like I think like it captures many of us once you've caught that bug and especially once you've got FPV flight and things [1033.8] Jae: Um, it's so easy [1035.96] Tony: It's so addictive, isn't it? [1039.24] Clint: So if you don't have quite at least once haven't they didn't just come back like an hour later [1044.6] Jae: So, um, you're part of the team I believe uh, clinton [1048.76] Jae: Oh, yeah team teams. Did you do that? [1052.44] Jae: With you [1053.88] Jae: Yeah with me. I mean I was there last year team that does if you do I think it was uh, but [1059.64] Jae: My whole team one person couldn't fly because his vtx got to the first gate and then cut out [1063.64] Jae: So he couldn't do a single lock around there somebody didn't actually turn up and the other person turned up [1068.36] Jae: But didn't actually get his failsafe working. So it was team me [1076.2] Clint: I've actually only been around a racetrack twice once once was with tony last year sort of friendly [1081.08] Clint: Just a quick blitz around and the uh, the second time was last sunday [1085.4] Clint: With some of the local boys down here. So it'll be interesting to see see how it actually goes [1089.96] Jae: It might be I mean, let's face it i've seen some of your freestyle stuff and everything [1094.52] Jae: You're not a bad pilot. So I think you'll be you'll be fine. You'll be fine [1098.84] Jae: Quad destroyer, isn't it? [1100.92] Jae: Have you done official racing john? [1103.0] John: That's what I want to see no [1108.52] John: I've done our trek days and that's about it. I mean it's you know, i've got uh, [1113.32] John: I've got other things that I do on the weekends when it's sunny [1116.76] Jae: Like fly no, but um, well, like I said, it's good to have a go if you've never done it before [1124.68] Jae: What are you [1126.68] John: I'll fly helix. What's your favorite? So I mean it's it's a [1130.84] John: It's it's I suppose if I if I tilted the angle up it would be a it would be a real racer [1135.32] John: But I like it. It's 30 degrees and i'm busy printing out a [1139.8] John: A new uh, gopro stands that I can video [1143.64] John: Um things that look a bit sorry i'm in the middle of a game of rocket league here at the same [1153.24] Jae: You know what I told I told the uh, I ran a drone workshop and I actually said computer games good and actually [1158.44] John: All these people hooked on hockey. There's my there's my 30 degree angle [1161.96] John: Yeah, so that it's it's just great for it's so it's so light and it hangs so well [1166.2] John: So it's great for it's great for uh for acro. It was falling down here [1170.36] Jae: Hangs so well and falls off the wall [1174.52] Jae: Perfect [1176.92] Jae: Um [1178.52] Jae: Yeah, I mean i'm quite lucky on the communion frame [1180.92] Jae: I can adjust the camera angle because since nj was giving us a little bit of uh aching on since you weren't there [1185.48] Jae: Saying you gotta fly with 50 degrees. You gotta fly with 50 degrees [1188.6] Jae: Um, I started and I realized that actually oh you're recording hd camera is still looking at the ground even though you're looking [1195.64] Jae: Yeah [1197.24] John: I can't get into the [1198.84] John: I can't get into the when you've got a slopey camera. So 50 uh 45 degrees or more. I can't get into the [1206.2] John: The mechanics of flight, you know, it's a different way of flying [1209.8] John: You know what I mean? You're you you need to feed a lot more you're in to counteract [1214.76] John: Offsets and things which which you don't have to do at 30 degrees [1219.0] John: 35 degrees, you know, so and and that's the thing that whole line. Yeah, that's the thing that um, yeah exactly. Yeah [1226.36] Jae: I I mean I I was I was finding that but I mean look watch back over my video and what I was doing was [1232.66] Jae: Constantly correcting so it looks so [1235.24] Jae: Shoddy, I mean, I wasn't trying to get race footage. Uh, sorry smooth footage [1239.16] Jae: It is a bit of a mind meld type thing to do that. Have you got any tips for starting to fly at higher angles than tony? [1246.44] Jae: Other than just stick [1248.2] Tony: Start live and just [1250.2] Tony: Go up gradually. Yeah [1253.24] Clint: Yeah [1254.52] Tony: But the problem is don't just go straight [1258.28] Tony: You need to just go up like that slowly [1261.16] Tony: Cut the batteries more batteries more batteries [1264.6] Tony: And then you'll start getting it. I mean, I don't even I don't think I think my camera is 45 probably [1271.72] Tony: Not more than that [1273.72] Tony: A couple of my mates fly well rich lies probably at 60 [1278.92] Tony: He he looks at the top of his quad always joke about him looking at his own GoPro [1284.04] Tony: That's all you see for his goggles is him. He's caught just [1288.68] Tony: Looking up at his underneath of his spot [1292.28] Tony: Mental angle, that's crazy [1295.48] Jae: It is despite the chelix deals, isn't it? We've got a few questions in the chatroom [1298.84] Jae: What uh, what is that? Well say hello to chris aka hobo joe [1303.72] Tony: Uh, what kind of green patches is in that thing? [1307.64] Jae: Nick mike's in the tricky tube green patches [1311.16] Jae: Ah [1312.36] Jae: So come on, we want questions for john really difficult ones. I think there was one from uh [1316.6] Jae: Someone in one of our groups chats, but I can't find it [1321.0] John: Come on chris throw those throw those questions over chris [1324.44] Jae: Yeah, he was gonna like he wanted someone knowledgeable and that's why we put you on here [1328.28] Jae: And obviously the mad einstein hair. We thought it'd be a perfect match. But this is uh, three days after haircut. Oh, wow [1337.96] Jae: Uh [1340.6] Jae: Yeah, so what are you with printing at the moment? I see your 3d printers going in the background [1343.8] Jae: Is that just another gopro mount? Is that all you're printing these days gopro mounts? [1347.72] John: Um in the process of designing one, um for the beast [1351.4] John: Okay, and it's a it's a long and drawn out process and i've got a box of a box of failed attempts over here [1358.84] John: So a bunch of a bunch of failed attempts, so this was attempt number one [1364.92] John: Which is sort of a rip off of the normal ones [1367.64] John: This is a an improved number one, but it's broken [1370.76] John: But I mean it's the the idea is a shroud but that's too heavy [1373.8] John: So neil's saying that's too heavy. So I went so then we've gone to something a little bit [1378.68] John: More slick. So that's a a beast. Wow 30 degree mount [1384.12] John: Because that looks quite flexible very flexible. In fact, yeah, this is tpe. It's it's soft. It's like a soft rubber [1390.68] John: Yeah, but it's it's got a bit of structure to it [1393.16] John: Um, and this is pla. This is what happens when you hit mountains with beasts [1398.12] John: But um, so so i'm slowly but surely sort of designing the thing and this is the latest sort of prototype [1403.56] John: An example of half of a prototype this this print failed. It's a bit. It's a bit bigger [1408.92] John: But it fits the top plate really well [1411.16] John: I've got a beast here and i'll show you what I mean with another one of these prototypes. So it hooks on [1417.56] John: And it plugs in so it's so you don't lose it [1420.04] John: You know the worst thing is you have one of these wedge things you take a gopro off put it on another quad [1424.36] John: And then you lose your mount in the grass or some crap like that. Whereas this the beast has got these little [1432.28] John: Little holes in the top plate there on the left and right between the screws [1436.12] John: And all i've done is i've just manufactured the base of this thing to slot into that [1441.16] John: So it will slot right in there and snap in so that you don't lose this you can't it's not it's going to hold the drone [1446.84] John: But it won't you can't you still need a strap to hold the the gopro on [1450.84] Jae: Yeah, I much prefer using straps though than pushing something in well, exactly. Yeah, so I mean [1456.2] John: Um, it just it's lighter. So this thing weighs seven grams [1459.96] John: As opposed to one of these things which weigh about 19 grams and according to neil [1466.12] John: 10 grams makes a difference apparently so [1471.08] John: 10 grams does make a difference to me [1473.96] Jae: That's it [1474.76] John: Well, I do believe these things these things are super light as you know [1479.08] John: Yours is somewhat heavier probably 100 grams heavier the chameleon. Yeah, um, whereas these little beasts and things these run in at [1486.2] John: Without a gopro and a battery on they're running at about 330 340 grams, which is super light [1491.8] John: So if you've got the right combination of props and things for acro, you get a hell of a float [1497.48] John: You know, you can hang in the sky and it doesn't fall quickly [1500.2] John: Which makes a big difference and every gram does count because because if you aren't lifting that gram [1505.72] John: You've got that much energy back into your flight time effectively, you know [1510.92] John: So even if it's two or three seconds, it's still two or three seconds [1513.48] John: Then it all adds up stewart and christen then we're going on about titanium bolts and saving your weight and the reality is is that [1520.2] John: A packet of bolts weighs a bit of ways, you know, here's a here's a thing [1524.68] John: If they're still uh bolts that weighs that probably weighs about 60 70 80 grams, you know [1529.88] John: So if there's 10 of those of 20 of those on your quad [1533.24] John: That's 20 times, you know half a gram each it's it's adding up. Hey my five seconds extra flight time or something [1540.04] John: It's all noticeable, isn't it? There's a difference but uh, I don't think to the layman to the average flyer [1546.12] John: It's it's noticeable to me. It's not noticeable. Um, but to people that [1550.6] John: That um understand the mechanics of flight and and understand things a lot more than I do. I'm sure it does. So, you know [1558.44] John: We've got a one trend [1562.52] Jae: Well, actually yeah, that's true every so often but don't spend too much money on boarding the hype train because sometimes it doesn't get [1568.12] Jae: To its destination. That's all i'll say [1571.4] Jae: Watch the video today. You were a guy with destinations. It's no longer a hype train anymore [1576.76] Jae: It's a regular running train at the moment only because only because you've got one now [1582.44] Jae: Actually [1588.44] Jae: A season ticket for the next nation before I get on it [1596.76] Jae: People are now building frames with a lot of aluminium on them [1599.88] Jae: I mean the beast was one of the first ones that I saw obviously the obsession the comedian and there's many more that are coming [1605.16] Jae: through like that, um [1608.04] John: But [1609.16] John: I've noticed a few people but you know what the attraction you know what the attraction of that is though the attraction of the [1615.8] John: It's the it's the lack of standoffs [1617.88] John: Standoffs are the weak link in a in any frame you look at any one of those old h frames with the top deck and the bottom [1623.48] John: Deck and standoffs the weakest link is always the the six or eight standoffs you have [1628.92] John: Because you're not putting titanium standoffs in you're putting aluminium soft aluminium standoffs that just bend [1635.0] John: So get rid of them [1636.52] John: And that's what these aluminium sub structures are all about [1639.4] John: It's about improving the quality because those things are typically, you know, 70 76 or whatever it is aircraft [1645.56] John: aluminium or the or whatever, but I mean the cheap standoffs you get are [1650.12] John: You know shower door aluminium not not exactly that powerful strong [1655.08] John: no [1657.24] John: Shower door [1659.4] Jae: Like an aircraft grade even whatever it is. That's the ultimate [1663.88] Clint: So I'm a comedian as well because I keep seeing picture after picture after picture of people smashing the fronts of them up [1670.12] Clint: Um, actually i've got a photo from neil today. I think he's done it as well where he's he's bent one side in [1675.56] Clint: It's just destroying his camera [1678.28] Jae: Of what sorry, what's this? [1680.12] Clint: So neil neil sent me a photo earlier where? [1682.68] Clint: Has he got a comedian or I don't know [1684.04] Clint: He sent me a picture of a comedian where they the aluminium front [1687.48] Clint: And the bar on the side has just pushed in and destroyed the camera and i've seen quite a few of them now [1692.12] Clint: And that's the only thing that's sort of putting me off [1695.4] Jae: Yeah, the omitting. I mean, yeah [1698.2] Jae: Uh kleger has flown one and he flies very hard, uh, and he's managed to break one of the frames [1702.84] Jae: Um a lot of the obsessions are breaking but the truth be known [1706.12] Jae: He hasn't had that long [1707.16] Jae: His brain is [1708.6] Jae: Indestructible, what are you flying through attorney? [1710.6] Tony: I've just said he hasn't had that long and he's already destroyed it who kleger [1715.8] Jae: It's because he tries shit [1717.8] Jae: Uh, no, he flies hard [1719.88] Jae: He he he like flies so hard into the tree to try and knock the tree over. He's that you know, he's that brave [1725.88] Tony: Does anyone subscribe to that? [1728.04] Tony: Um, I don't know how to pronounce his youtube name. He's like kebab fpv or kabob or [1734.12] Tony: Babadobadobble [1738.2] Tony: You'll have to give us a few more clues there tony. I don't know he flies. Um, he was I watched his video today [1744.36] Tony: And he said anything under 250 grams or anything over 200 [1749.56] Tony: everything anything over 250 grams [1753.08] Tony: You shouldn't use for racing and it's too heavy [1758.52] Tony: 50 grams, yeah, um, so who's your sponsor? [1768.36] John: This is this is one of this is one of nj's um arguments is that there's a well [1773.0] John: I think a lot of a lot of the the pro designers and things there's a [1777.4] John: There's a point at which something becomes too light [1780.36] John: Because you lose the the inertia that the weight gives you [1784.6] John: And with inertia comes control [1787.72] John: So you you need [1789.4] John: weight to control the to to [1791.62] John: Control the heavy turns and things like that to a certain degree. I mean if this thing was [1795.8] John: Was in zero degrees and just had uh in an infinite like power, you know [1800.84] John: um to weight ratio [1802.84] John: It would be it would be unflyable. The the the controller wouldn't be able to handle the [1808.28] John: The oscillations. I mean the you know what I mean? It's it needs weight. You need weight [1812.04] John: It's just I don't know what that weight that critical weight is. There's got to be some critical weight [1816.76] John: It's some somewhere in the world that that um that [1821.24] John: We get to where everything just works to its absolute optimal. So 250 grams you reckon [1828.84] Jae: That's an answer I believe is it uh, I think we've just got it from [1833.24] Jae: That's tiny. What's kebab? [1835.64] Jae: Quads kebab no back to kebab fpv. Is that the one you're trying to mention? Yeah. Yeah [1841.16] Jae: It was zero studies designed the hyperlight [1844.6] Jae: I guess you know [1845.72] Jae: Like if you if you're trying to change your momentum if you've gone through again [1849.0] Jae: You need to do a hard turn obviously your weight that you have to therefore change the inertia a light frame is good [1855.08] Jae: but [1855.96] Jae: unless you're actually any good and you're not hitting anything then I think actually having a well-built quad because [1861.72] Jae: Gates do destroy quads the ground destroys quads as you come down [1865.24] John: Yeah, but there's the opposite argument there where weight is [1869.24] John: An impact is just it's just one of newton's laws for every force. There's an equal and opposite opposite force [1875.8] John: so if you're putting 300 kilogram or 300 grams at at [1880.92] John: 60 mile an hour into a gate the force to someone's chin [1885.4] John: Yeah [1888.28] John: The uh, the opposing force is equal to that which means theoretically the heavier your cord the more damage gets done in the in [1895.0] John: The equation whether it's to the gate or to your quad. That's the that's the trade-off. Yeah [1899.96] John: on quad design and [1901.96] John: Quality, so I don't know. I think light is good because light for for acro light means [1909.48] John: Longer longer flight times is the is the longest is the best thing the most important thing for me [1923.29] Tony: It doesn't really [1925.85] Jae: But this 305 grams is that the cobra to joy 724 or no which which motors are that on it's gonna get 305 grams [1933.85] Jae: Wow [1937.29] Tony: yeah [1940.17] Tony: My freestyle cord is about five [1947.21] Jae: And again it comes down to though [1950.49] Jae: They all fly differently and stuff and whether you'll actually notice much of a difference between 10 and 50 grams [1955.21] Jae: Maybe not 100 grams. You might I [1957.21] Jae: I can only fly what i've got and at least I want something in a little because i'm not always accurate through gates [1961.85] Jae: I need something a bit tougher and generally the bit tougher frames are a bit thicker carbon and a bit thicker of the you know [1967.61] Jae: stuff [1968.41] Jae: I'm not saying it's indestructible [1970.49] Jae: So who uh for you lot clinton john have you tried any four and one escs? [1976.01] Clint: I haven't yet. No i'm thinking about it [1980.01] Jae: I think for a while it was always well if i'm [1982.89] Jae: I'd want to change it over. But how many times have I knackered an esc? I think in the last year i've done one [1988.89] John: Yeah [1990.73] John: That's fair to say but you the one that you've done was out on an arm where it was getting its own cooling it had [1999.61] John: All of the space around it on its own to cool itself [2002.65] John: Whereas now i'm packing four of them in the middle of a sandwich with limited airflow [2007.93] John: And all of them contributing to the same heat mess [2011.53] John: so [2012.89] John: I i'm not a massive fan [2015.21] John: I don't think you need I sort of tricky ask early on [2018.65] John: Do you do you need a four in one to get a um a neat build chris will argue that in order to get a small build [2024.17] John: You have to get one have to use a four in one [2026.65] John: But I don't I mean i've only ever burnt out one esc and then i've prop struck another ec so it's two that i've done [2032.89] John: in my whole time so [2035.13] John: You know the the odds say that yeah four in one is is a workable solution [2039.61] John: But I think I think from a an engineering standpoint. It's got a long a shorter [2045.21] John: Lifespan because of the heat, you know heat is the the end all of everything [2050.57] Tony: Yeah, i'd like that but i've been running [2054.17] Tony: 20 and little bees in the back of a bottle [2057.13] Tony: Six things for over a year [2059.53] Tony: a year and a half stacks together [2062.09] Jae: Actually, even on [2064.97] Tony: Yeah, haven't you really put [2066.97] Tony: And running five for five s now and again and carrying a GoPro all the time [2072.01] John: Okay, what i'm like [2074.25] John: I wonder what the I wonder what the airflow through one of those fossil frames is actually it was it completely sealed off [2079.29] Tony: There must be some there is there's there's holes. I mean there's air holes on the bottom and that's all so [2085.85] John: Yeah, but they still they're still individual though [2088.49] John: So when one ESC's board gets hot hot the it's only that ESC's board that's getting hot whereas [2095.61] Tony: They're strapped together [2097.77] John: Yeah, but they individually heat sail sealed though [2101.29] John: So when you when it's one board that heat will distribute will dissipate into all four of the devices [2108.17] John: Much quicker than if they just stacked [2110.65] Jae: Yeah, that's true. Yeah. Yeah, but it sounds like somebody needs to try this out. Uh [2116.09] Tony: Yeah [2119.61] Clint: The only one out there is the race light one for the race flight ones are having problems as well, aren't they? [2126.81] Jae: Do you want to tell us more about that then uh clinton? [2128.81] Clint: I don't know that they released the video and it made was it last week? [2131.61] Clint: um, I think a lot of people are having problems with their all-in-one ESC's [2135.53] Clint: And uh, what they've done is they've now started sending out free capacitors to put on them [2139.61] Clint: Apparently when uh when you're breaking the motors are throwing the power back into the [2143.69] Tony: Yeah, but that's that's not [2146.41] Clint: No, I'm sorry. I saw a heat issue, but there's an issue [2149.61] Clint: People that have had issues with the race flight. Is that with breaking then that it's [2154.73] Jae: I mean that must be where it's getting the rest of its its current back and heating up because it doesn't have anything to do [2160.41] John: That'll be that that'll be the act of breaking [2163.05] John: um [2163.93] John: Generating back pressure in the electrical circuitry, which is effective [2167.85] John: Is it is it is it causing problems for the ESC's or is it causing problems for every all the other electronics in the gas rigs? [2174.81] Tony: All of the above [2177.45] Clint: I'm not sure I really may like I said [2180.09] Clint: They released uh, they released the video about a week ago [2182.65] Clint: Which was a solution to the problems that people were getting with their particular ESC [2187.53] Clint: um, I mean let's face it you should probably have caps on now for everything but [2191.77] Clint: um, yeah, apparently [2193.85] Tony: Apparently just the noise and everything coming back from the motors was throwing ESC's out with whatever desyncing or whatever [2209.93] John: But you had a fat cap on the on the on the side of the ESC as well though [2214.09] Jae: Yeah, he did. So it was actually period see that you'd do that [2217.21] Jae: But to save space now, they decided to either make it smaller or not [2220.81] Tony: Does he does he's a little bit he's haven't gotten them on lately. They don't know they they've got [2227.13] John: So that was the so the little bee's got like a little a little block capacitor on the ESC itself [2232.57] John: Which has been gone for a while now, but as well [2234.89] John: but [2235.69] John: The the the whole point about the little bees is was that active braking was [2239.85] John: Was the most aggressive of all of them because the dys [2242.97] John: Didn't have that and the acorns didn't have that it was only the little bees that had that and that's when this whole [2247.45] John: Slap any cap over your battery terminal, you know start everything and then it started getting big [2252.81] John: I mean they started off with thousand microfarads or something and then and then it was or [2257.85] John: 25 volts then it was 35 volts. There's my cap. It's the one that comes with the matek board [2263.29] John: It's just above the just above the thing [2266.09] John: It's a force. It's a 470. So [2269.53] John: Because what will happen is if if that if those ESCs ever back pressure and try and blow the circuitry that cap will pop [2276.09] John: I don't care if that cap pops and I just pop a new one on you know [2279.05] John: It doesn't have to be a massive heavy capacitor to fly around with [2284.41] Jae: No, but I I mean it's often for smoothing out your power lines and everything isn't it of course it is yeah [2289.69] Jae: They're useful. I'd say and i'd rather put a cap on even if it does detract from the sexiness of a build [2295.21] John: I'm not saying don't put a cap on i'm just saying you don't need a massive cap [2298.25] John: You just need a tiny cap, you know, just have to have the right amount of just don't go slow [2304.09] Tony: There is [2311.69] Clint: The video on the race flight is actually probably worth watching because um [2314.65] Clint: I think the the problems they were having is noise was coming all the way back to the flight controller [2320.41] Clint: From from the active braking and it was actually throwing [2324.01] Clint: Throwing gyros and everything off. Let's just [2327.53] Jae: You were saying in that video [2328.57] Jae: They actually said what type of capacitors probably that they found to be the best ones to use [2332.49] Clint: Yeah, somebody do a panasonic. I don't know. Maybe they're just [2336.09] Jae: Maybe they're sponsored by panasonic [2338.89] Clint: Yeah, that'd be something. Uh, I don't know. I don't know. I think they've done some testing and uh in the video [2343.61] Clint: They actually show you all the testing they're doing with the capacitors [2346.57] Clint: Um, that's uh, it's an interesting video. Yeah behind the cactus. So it's an interesting video to watch [2353.29] Clint: Um, but mind you saying that I put capacitor in mine and it actually made my flight horrible [2357.85] Tony: Same in it [2359.85] Tony: Well, I did exactly the same [2362.65] Jae: placebo though, did you think oh no, it's extra weight in some of the uh, no, no, it's it's horrible [2367.13] Clint: No, it was um, I was getting problems with the camera. It was flickering with uh with the cap on and also it just felt a bit wobbly [2376.2] Tony: I'm saying [2377.4] Tony: Mine flew terrible [2380.12] Tony: So clinton i've got a question for you [2382.76] Jae: And maybe other have you have you decided on a frame yet? Because you will [2386.36] Jae: I haven't so here's what frame should clinton buy [2390.04] Tony: What have you got? [2392.04] Tony: Buys one every week you might as well just name one seven for a [2396.76] Tony: couple of months [2399.32] Clint: I uh, yeah, I go through quite a few that's good to be fair. But um, yeah [2404.44] Clint: You know what I was looking the other day and i've had it for seven months now [2407.96] Clint: I've had the same frame for seven months. It's been run over [2411.4] Clint: Um, it's it's been bashed. It's been it got run over by two cars [2415.8] Clint: It's been bashed. It hit a tree full on and that's clinton running it over with his own car. No, it wasn't my car [2423.16] Clint: I'll run my gopro over that was my car [2428.82] Tony: That's worse than rooms in it valley [2431.62] Jae: We've got a few more people joining us in the chat room [2433.78] Jae: Uh, which you can find on the youtube on the right if you're not there bloods fpv matikala fpv [2438.82] Jae: We've got matt gammons and sundance squid. There's quite a few in there actually now. Welcome everyone [2444.1] Jae: We've got 29 watching. I think we're just setting in a record. John. Wow [2448.58] Jae: No, but tricky did post it around everywhere. So thank you. Well if it's your first time here [2452.42] Jae: We do this every week [2453.94] Jae: Uh, sometimes I write the same people on sometimes we don't so we open it up to everything there [2458.82] Jae: um [2460.34] Jae: and actually uh [2462.1] Jae: We do thank everyone that tunes in this week and our patrons and our sponsor [2465.94] Jae: Do you want to tell us who our sponsor is this week tony? [2470.76] Tony: as ever [2475.48] Tony: Eat the main man. He helps us out loads because uh behind the scenes [2480.92] Tony: We've got editors we've got people putting [2483.96] Tony: Editing together. We've put it on you. Uh, we put it on youtube. It goes on to soundcloud. It goes on to apple [2489.8] Tony: Lighting so you can listen back [2493.24] Tony: For about a year and a half if you want you can go back and listen to us [2497.24] Jae: Yeah, well since we started really [2499.48] Jae: uh, also hello to that corner quads, I know yeah, I mean we're on um [2504.12] Jae: Soundcloud and everywhere these days we we put ourselves out there just for the fun of it so you can laugh [2509.0] Tony: And that's pretty much where the money goes [2511.0] Tony: I'll leave it in and getting it up on there because we have to pay monthly for it to be there [2515.0] Tony: Can you guys listen back? [2517.88] Jae: So we are going to have a secret actually [2520.6] Jae: Um, we do still have a running competition [2522.6] Jae: I believe has anyone got any pictures yet of people on their fpv stances? I tried to get one of nj [2528.04] Jae: He did rock a little bit. So if you're listening, uh nj [2531.24] Jae: I I didn't get a photo but uh [2533.96] Jae: Still the current winner in my book is sundance grid for his action-ready fpv stance [2539.56] Clint: But uh, I would have had the perfect one was uh flying in the car park with a mate and he decided to stand up [2544.92] Clint: Like flying his quad in the next week just fell over into a bush [2550.36] Clint: But how to keep going because he's caught the still in the air [2553.64] Jae: You know like the number of people i've seen fall over holding their transmitter and it's like a baby [2558.12] Jae: They will make sure their transmitter doesn't get injured in their fall. Even if they take more knocks themselves [2566.76] Jae: And I suppose it is a fair chunk of money [2571.64] Jae: Um, so you haven't decided on the frame yet then clinton [2574.84] Clint: No, i'm still i'm still working on it. Really get a beast dude. Get a beast [2580.12] John: I mean, how do you rate the beast? Do you rate it? I rate it second to the helix [2584.3] John: The helix is the helix is phenomenal. Um, I love the thing. It's it's uh, it's was fun to build [2595.42] John: There's you don't have to piss about with flight controllers and everything it runs beta flight [2600.14] John: It's got a osd on board and all that nonsense. It's it's a great build. It's a it's a great quote [2605.74] John: I think it's brilliant. Um, i'm actually contemplating getting a second just to have spares [2610.78] John: Because the seven-day wait time from australia is a bit undoable for me [2614.86] John: But if I didn't have that i'd be flying this beast everywhere. It really is a great little thing. The only the only [2620.22] John: Complaints i've got about it is the is the fact that the camera's a bit exposed and you can [2624.78] John: Download it that little cow thing that I showed you earlier [2627.58] John: Which is meant to give it a but i'm in it needs to be made out of some kind of reinforced [2632.7] John: You know, um carbon fiber or whatever [2634.94] John: so that it doesn't it doesn't die or some kind of rubber because [2639.42] John: You smash lenses if you hit anything you smash your lens on the front of your fpv cam and they if you've got a decent [2644.54] John: One that's like 12 bucks a time [2648.25] Clint: 12 bucks for a camera [2650.01] John: Yeah [2651.21] John: No, just the lens lens [2656.25] Clint: No, yeah, i've not decided but I mean it does look good maybe send me some links but my [2661.77] Clint: The only thing that I find i've always found quite important is trying to get them in the uk [2665.85] Clint: So when you do need spares or replacements, I don't want anything. You can just order them and get them next day [2671.29] Clint: um [2672.17] Clint: I'm gonna be flying x5s now [2674.65] Clint: seven months [2676.65] Clint: When I keep ordering frames and arms and spare plates and everything like that. The only thing that's really annoying me with it is [2684.25] Clint: I bought [2685.53] Clint: Seven brand new ac batteries and i'm currently down to three in about a month and a half just from where they're under [2691.85] Clint: Slung on the bottom of the quad and just keep getting bashed [2694.81] Tony: So try a 3d printed like [2700.73] Clint: Yeah, i've had one of those somewhere around have one but yeah that got destroyed as well and then I [2707.29] Jae: Cameras like vtx's are actually considerable parts just as much as props [2711.21] Jae: I you don't want to you know replace them every single time, but you can't expect a camera to last forever and [2717.53] Jae: It's one thing I don't actually have in my spare [2719.77] Tony: Cameras are actually cheaper than batteries. I've rather destroyed a battery than the camera [2724.81] Tony: Batteries are 120 something clear to the cameras [2728.41] Jae: Camera takes you out of action at least just destroying a battery whilst you're out in the field. You can just fly the rest [2733.77] John: So i'd rather destroy that square out as well [2736.89] Tony: That's what tony's saying dumbass [2747.07] John: That's why they invited me on because i'm not a [2749.87] John: This is my new batteries that i'm starting to run from [2752.75] John: tomorrow [2754.51] John: Do you like them? I don't know. This is uh fresh out of the pack. So we'll find out tomorrow [2760.83] John: The problem i've got is that um with with for some reason [2765.95] John: It'd be props on which I have at the moment these [2768.99] John: Oh john [2771.79] John: You've just lost here [2774.11] Jae: John i'm here [2776.11] Jae: I've got his face [2778.11] Jae: He's had nothing from you. Maybe your hair was caught in the interference with your brain. I don't know [2782.99] Clint: You know the problem i've been getting with the aces is the uh, the xt 60s keep popping off [2787.23] Clint: And when you actually look at the soldering, they're only soldered around the top. They have no solder flowing inside [2792.19] Clint: And it's happened four of them now the xt 60s [2795.15] Clint: Really? [2797.63] John: Oh, that's because the that's because the your xt 60 plug is like inside in the fossil frame is like reinforced, isn't it? [2804.03] Clint: It's like really solid in there flying the fossil flying x5 [2807.63] Clint: But I mean I do open up the claws inside to make sure it's high fit [2812.51] Clint: And a few of them where they just welded inside where they obviously sparked [2817.55] John: But it's actually fixed to the frame quite solidly as well, isn't it the xt 60 the xt 60 is yeah [2823.15] Jae: Yeah, so i'm in [2824.83] Jae: The recent design that it's on the comedian which actually has two wires that go over a rubber grommet from the xc60 [2830.35] Jae: It means there's a bit of play and it doesn't put all that stress in the solder joint [2833.63] Jae: I think that's an absolutely amazing idea and you could probably recreate it [2837.39] Jae: Just by having a rubber grommet that you have to you compress down. It is amazing idea [2842.03] Clint: You're trying to sell me that comedian as much as I try [2846.11] Jae: The xt 60 connector that is the best design i've seen to stop you ripping them off [2851.23] Jae: As most people do when it's hard sold to the board to the pvp [2854.99] Tony: I'm still flying my overlander batteries and i'm absolutely loving them [2858.83] Tony: They just seem to just keep going and going i've had them bumps now [2865.82] Tony: Sorry, have you tried the latest version? [2868.38] Jae: I haven't tried those batteries [2871.34] Jae: I'll give you a go. I'm liking the latest batteries at the moment. They've taken so many beatings [2876.54] Jae: I've destroyed cells i've managed to de-sell it [2878.38] Jae: You know take them apart fix up from two dead batteries and and they go strong and they still go strong even though i've [2884.62] Jae: Put them back together [2885.98] Jae: in a monstrosity fashion [2891.77] Jae: But obviously this week there's a new version of beta flight out and I have actually seen the [2896.49] Jae: And prop wash thing in action and I was very impressed. Uh, it was on nj text [2901.05] Jae: Uh gt2, I believe [2903.93] Jae: And it was very impressive. So has anyone else tried it john? [2908.65] John: No, no, I mean I naturally don't have that problem [2912.65] John: I'm kidding. I haven't tried it. Um, I need to probably upgrade but the thing flies so well at the moment that [2919.21] John: They always change something and as long as none of the other parameters have changed, you know [2924.33] Tony: Don't upgrade if it flies fine and you like the way you do it [2927.29] Tony: Don't fall because i've done it the other day on beta flight. I was running two one seven like a year ago and I upgraded and [2935.45] John: Aided it. Yeah, that's my I think um new software unless it's a bug new software is for a new quad really [2943.13] Tony: Yeah [2948.16] Jae: Switching motor direction the default in beta flight race flight clean flight etc [2952.24] Jae: Is the prop spinning in the front and the back was there [2955.76] Jae: There was that talk of having to spin the other way around is better. Have you done that? [2959.52] John: No, that doesn't that doesn't work. I've tried that shit [2964.64] Clint: Someone made a really good point about it the other day was that because they're spinning outwards [2968.8] Tony: You don't get all the stuff or all the rubbish thrown all over your camera. So [2976.48] John: Do you have to change some setting in the flight controller to tell it that the motors are going the wrong way around because I [2981.04] John: Tried that I had them all wired the wrong way once and I thought oh, let's just try it out [2984.8] John: And yaw didn't like that at all. Just freaking flat yaw spin constantly [2989.12] John: So there must be some setting somewhere that that stops that from happening because if because i'm in it [2995.04] John: My brain says that's exactly how it works [2998.88] John: But when you think of how a flight controller talks to the motors if I want to yaw [3003.12] John: In this direction if I want to yaw in this direction [3006.4] John: I'm going to spin one of this one of these motors faster than the other to get it to pull in that direction [3012.08] John: And if this motor is not spinning in that direction and it wants to yaw in that direction [3016.4] John: It's going to it's going to yaw in the opposite direction [3018.88] John: So the flight controller was fighting with itself constantly. I just didn't fly there must be some setting [3024.56] John: In the flight controller to tell it that the motors are going the other way. Otherwise, it doesn't work race flight [3028.96] Clint: I'm, not sure about but I can't even remember what it would be a flight little bit there [3032.16] Clint: It's been so long, but race flight definitely has that feature [3035.92] Jae: I mean i would kiss yeah from beta flight to kiss and then to race flight [3039.76] Jae: So i'm tempted to try the new beta flight stuff again, and especially where people are saying it's very very uh, sweet on the flying [3046.48] Jae: Um on my qavr might swap it out to put my old fp [3050.56] Jae: You know f3 clone board in there because that's all it was running that I saw it on it. It was pretty good. So [3056.4] Jae: Watch this space. I know kobo joke is a massive massive massive beta flight fan [3061.12] Jae: In fact, I think he would sleep with bro if he could [3064.32] Tony: How I know they used to know one of them until race flight come along [3069.36] Tony: It was good having you on the show [3075.36] Jae: Yeah, maybe yeah see if you can get him over for mini air show crinton [3079.68] Clint: Get to know him. Who is that? [3082.24] Clint: Boris b. Boris b. Well, you're always going to go it's worth worth a message [3086.8] Jae: Have you asked people from around the world to see if they want to come over? [3089.84] Clint: Yeah a few people [3091.12] Clint: I just sent a few stuff, but um, i'm not sure what we've had back. Actually. I think andrew was [3097.2] Clint: He was doing some of most of that stuff. So he's on [3100.96] Clint: Coronary city was at a moment. Is it russia or [3103.68] Jae: Uh Brussels, I think he's in for work [3106.0] Clint: Is that russia? I don't know [3108.08] Jae: Geography is almost strong point. Here's clinton's biography. Yeah [3115.44] Jae: Um [3118.08] Jae: Available aren't they for mini air show [3120.72] Jae: Have a bit of time them [3121.52] Jae: Do you want to give a five minute plug for people coming across to find tickets? [3125.52] Clint: So so the tickets the tickets for the mini air show are still available [3128.96] Clint: The only thing that has been closed off at the moment is the freestyle event [3132.16] Clint: So no more no more freestyle pilots just because of the amount that we've got in such a quick [3137.52] Clint: period of time [3138.88] Clint: Um, there are now four slots left for uh team racing [3143.2] Clint: So they're going very very quickly as well [3145.68] Clint: And then obviously we've only got two weeks and two days before the actual event starts. So [3150.72] Clint: um, yeah [3151.76] Clint: So do we buy pants for a flying ticket? Is it not? [3154.64] Clint: So the flying the flying passes we want to fly over the Saturday and Sunday are 25 pounds [3160.64] Clint: If you're just coming for a day visit and you're bringing a car, it's five pound for parking, but it's only for the car [3167.36] Clint: Um camping is is it 15 pound a night? [3170.56] Clint: Um, yeah, so 15 pound a night. Um coming camp [3175.12] Clint: Enjoy the evening. I'm sure we're gonna have some uh night flyers. We have some uh amazing [3180.32] Clint: uh highly lit and [3182.32] Clint: Um quarter quarters and planes last year, which was pretty spectacular. So hopefully we'll have those out again this year [3188.08] Clint: And maybe you know, maybe someone will bring some uh nighttime racing [3192.96] Clint: Gear and we can set up a little night track or something. That'd be pretty cool [3196.56] Jae: I'll bring a can of petrol and set the gate fire [3200.08] Clint: I still haven't seen that footage. I'll wait for that footage from the uh, the uh, the flaming gate [3206.32] Jae: Well, I think I think that we might have another [3209.2] Jae: Event for ldo later in the year and we will make sure there's fire gates [3213.2] Jae: Actually, because if I don't know if anyone's seen the bms web or the web fpv. Um [3218.24] Jae: Fire flying which was actually really good. It was just a field at night lit up in flames and just dancing around with a [3224.72] Jae: Freestyle quad and actually it looked very impressive and i'd love to recreate something like that [3229.84] Jae: Um burning man [3232.88] Jae: We'll fly around them you'll spin [3234.96] Jae: If I want to be anything [3237.2] Tony: so, um [3239.28] Tony: Does everyone need to be on 25 milliwatt on raceband if they want to fly so 25 milliwatts? [3245.12] Clint: Um raceband specifically for the racing anyway, um, but definitely definitely won't have said 25 milliwatt [3251.6] Clint: The reason is we're trying to get segregation between three different areas [3254.8] Clint: And if people are running 200 600 milliwatts, which they shouldn't be running anyway [3259.12] Clint: Then, uh, it could potentially cause problem and allow less pilots to get in the air at the same time [3264.08] Clint: Uh, so it'd be nice to get as many people up in the air at the same time as we possibly can over over the areas [3268.96] Clint: We've got to try to keep as many people flying [3272.0] Clint: As long as possible really or until they destroy [3276.08] Jae: Hopefully not but um, I know for the [3278.56] Jae: Uh team relay they do need to have compatible transponders and even the solar event. Oh, no, the solar event is btx. Is it not? [3284.8] Clint: I believe yeah, so the solo solo is btx [3288.64] Clint: Is timing [3290.32] Jae: But for the team relay, is it not that they need? [3293.68] Jae: um [3294.32] Jae: some [3295.68] Jae: transponders [3296.88] Clint: so [3297.84] Clint: Yeah, the team relay you must have you must either have your own transponders or they are renting some transponders for six pounds [3304.96] Clint: Or you can buy one of their transponders for 35 pounds [3308.4] Clint: Which are the ilap compatible that I've been any official the ones are selling the official [3313.52] Clint: ilap transponders [3315.2] Clint: But you must have an ilap [3317.76] Clint: Um compatible transponder [3320.4] Clint: So I guess that's something to do with the equipment racing using [3324.32] Clint: Yeah [3328.16] Tony: Sorry tony can they be bought can they be bought from you guys? [3332.16] Clint: Yes, so the the link I sent you earlier with the team [3335.6] Clint: Team racing registration on there. There's a little link. So you either buy or rent [3340.54] Clint: transponders and then basically that's coming straight from racing. So [3345.28] Clint: What happened is when you sign up for the the? [3348.72] Clint: Racing if you put your receipt code in and then at the gates [3353.2] Clint: Road racing will give you a transponder or loan you the transponder [3357.92] Tony: Okay, so what's the uh, what's your? [3360.88] Tony: Website call. What is it? [3368.16] Jae: You do by the way people if you do buy your tickets [3370.08] Jae: You do need to then go back and solo register if you want to do the solo event [3373.68] Jae: And um, otherwise when you're buying a ticket you can't choose to do the team relay [3377.2] Jae: But you do need to also register the team with the receipts and you have to have four pilots before you register as a team [3383.12] Jae: Three does not work two or one [3386.08] Jae: Does not work either. So four pilots and you put your transport you at least your receipt number in I think is that not right clinton [3392.08] Clint: That's great. Yeah, so you need some friends, uh, at least three of them [3396.56] Jae: And you might have [3401.04] Jae: Jay's shit out of luck then. Oh, I've already got a team john. Yeah. I think you're the one that's [3406.96] John: Yeah [3409.76] Tony: John's gonna fly four calls at once [3412.56] John: Yeah [3414.88] John: I'm flying. Um, what's it fossil on our backup fossil pilot this year? [3420.56] Jae: The ego is big enough for four pilots, but uh, there's no ego here [3428.4] Jae: So, um, yeah, I guess we'll probably hear more as the developments come along but uh, there'll be more on mini air shows soon [3434.96] Clint: Yeah, I mean it's worth keeping up to date with the website. Uh, things are constantly changing updating in new announcements [3441.52] Clint: There's the facebook page as well. Um, i've just thrown the mini air show link and the mini air show solo signups onto the chat. So [3449.68] Clint: Click away. Go and have a browse. See what see what's going there [3453.28] Jae: You may as well and uh, we get to turn up there. Do you know how many people have bought tickets though? [3457.36] Clint: Do you know the sort of numbers are expecting in total? Um, i'm not I think the [3462.72] Clint: Well, I did have it actually i've just lost it in one of the windows. I believe it was 112 [3467.84] Clint: people are [3470.4] Clint: Coming along so far with [3472.48] Clint: uh [3473.52] Clint: 42 races [3476.08] Clint: 15, uh, sorry 25 free styles. Um [3480.48] Clint: Yeah, there's loads of different numbers. So it's hard [3487.12] Clint: Yeah, so anybody can come [3488.8] Clint: Anybody can come and watch the the only the only thing that you would be paying for is either five pounds [3493.84] Clint: Part your car or camping 15 pound for the night [3497.04] Clint: And then flying is like a separate separate entity [3499.84] Tony: So that's 25 pounds if you want to come and fly over the weekend people can just come and watch for a fighter base [3506.24] Clint: Exactly that and uh, you know, if you're gonna pay a fight, you might as well bring a Carlos. So bring four or five of you [3512.32] Clint: And yeah, I mean that's that's the thing, isn't it? [3514.48] Clint: You know, I think uh, one of the biggest things about fbb and racing everything is the community more than anything [3521.28] Clint: Um, there's going to be other stuff to do as well. So yeah, come and chat [3525.12] Clint: I mean, I know I know a lot of people are well, i've got a lot of friends that are just coming just for [3530.8] Clint: The you know to socialize with all the other pilots and stuff ask the questions find out what's the biggest thing at the moment [3537.76] Clint: Just chat and find out what everybody else is doing [3542.67] Jae: Um, we do have a question from hobo saying is 3d quad flying allowed in the freestyle event [3548.35] Clint: So, you know, that's uh, that's a good question, but I don't think that'd be very fair [3553.23] Clint: I think you should definitely bring your 3d quads and and come and show us what you can do [3556.59] Clint: But i'm yeah, I think that would be unfair for everybody else. Would it? [3560.99] Clint: just [3562.67] Jae: well, i've always i mean [3564.51] Jae: I've seen the capabilities because zoe fpb obviously fires a lot of 3d and it's interesting to what you can do [3569.55] Jae: but I don't think it's as [3571.31] Jae: Acrobatic as a standard freestyle thing. So you'd be down on some of your uh [3575.71] Jae: Ability to fly when you're flying 3d because it props that as efficient in 3d and there's a lot of problems with the 3d [3581.87] Jae: so [3582.91] Jae: It could be here's a question [3584.59] John: other than zoe who else flies 3d acro and [3587.95] John: Publicly a lot there there there isn't there's like her and that's it [3592.83] Jae: Yeah, that's all that's all I know [3595.55] Jae: I know some people are trying to build them but [3597.63] Jae: Um, I think it's fraught with problems at the moment still it's true infancy and whether it takes off [3601.95] Jae: I don't know, but I know there's probably a lot of 3d helipilots that come from that [3606.59] Jae: That would be interested in going to a 3d aspect and having the pitch, you know to throttle down throttle up from here [3613.55] John: That's different [3615.23] John: The the whole concept of 3d heli flying is about watching the helicopter do its weird shit [3620.83] John: Your brain would explode if your eyes were looking through the front of that that [3624.91] John: That helicopter at the at the you know at any time especially going through gates. Yeah [3630.83] John: Yeah, well now i'm just thinking from a 3d heli perspective [3634.75] Jae: Bring it onto the airship because it'll go up and down and up and down and [3638.83] John: Why don't you get njtech to bring one of these 3d helis along and we'll strap a camera on the front of that [3643.39] John: Just and he can do some 3d just to get people's [3646.83] John: brains [3648.03] John: boiled [3650.03] Tony: I think there's some 3d pilots there, isn't there? [3653.07] Tony: Uh, a light track, I believe is it? Yeah, a bit of a helipilot 3d helipope. Yeah [3658.35] Jae: Yeah, jack if you're going people [3661.63] Clint: But I do think I do think just just keep that to keep a level playing field that it should just be standard quads [3667.15] Clint: But I would love to see the 3d quads flying [3670.99] Clint: Maybe if there's enough we could just throw a little event together for the 3d quads [3675.71] Jae: Yeah [3677.39] Jae: Just to one side or something [3679.71] Jae: Jack i'll make you my way in a second [3680.99] Jae: I've got to I think we're at the end of our allotted hour.
