====================================

With the 3rd Mini Airshow (and International Drone Day) just days away, we have some of the folk working tirelessly behind the scenes coming on the show. Join TheTonStar1, chipko and (hopefully) NJ Tech as the usual suspects along with Andrew and Clinton who are not sleeping to ensure we all have a wonderful time

[0.0] Jae: live. Oh dear. Hello and welcome. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, it's back. This once again
[7.28] Jae: for LitStro now. I'm feeling a bit disheveled. I hope everyone else on the call isn't.
[11.92] Jae: I can see you. I can see NJ. I can see Andrew. I can see Clinton. We've got a full house
[17.84] Jae: tonight. Is there anyone else? Oh Clinton. Hello. Welcome back. Andrew. Welcome back.
[26.36] Jae: Hello. Hello. Hello. Hello. We've not had this in a while, you know. It's good. So this week
[33.56] Jae: obviously is the pre-warm up show for the Mini Air Show. Who's excited? I am. We got your French
[43.72] Jae: back again, Tony. I am not ready though. I mean on my list of things to do I have to pack. I have
[49.8] Jae: to pack for everything. I have to find my tent. I don't know where my tent is. Pillow is sleeping
[53.96] Jae: back and then I still have to put my five volt on. I've only just fixed my VCX issue. I have to
[58.12] Frank: swap the whole frame out on my communion. Sounds like the troubles that I've been having. I went
[65.48] Frank: out last Saturday and all five cards went wrong. Oh dear. All five? All five. What did you do?
[72.92] Frank: ESC on one, camera on another, motor bell come off on another,
[79.96] Frank: fight controller went wrong and that ended up being a dry joint on my inverter pad on the bottom of
[90.12] Frank: the revolt. And then I can't remember what happened to the other. All within about an hour of
[96.6] Frank: getting there. They all just went. Did they fall off a truck or something? Did they fall
[101.8] Frank: around in your back van? I don't know. You put anything in my van. It's like cursed. You put
[106.04] Frank: anything in there and drive somewhere and it goes wrong by the time you get there.
[110.52] Jae: So at least, well, you're on the opposing team to me, so that's all right.
[118.04] Jae: Let's look after Clinton. Right. Clinton, how are you flying at the moment?
[122.28] Clint: Sorry, I didn't catch that. What was that? I said, you're on my team. I've got to look after you.
[125.88] Clint: Have you got everything flying? Almost. I've just got one left and then I look at all these quads
[131.48] Clint: everywhere. One here and one there and one here and one somewhere else. I'm too busy looking at
[137.4] Clint: the extension cable on the floor. They're everywhere.
[143.0] NJ: N.J., can you come in actually this weekend? It doesn't look likely at the minute. There's still
[148.6] NJ: a slim chance I might be able to make it, but yeah, there are some work commitments,
[153.32] NJ: which means I might not be able to do it. It's not looking great at the minute, but
[156.84] NJ: you never know. That's fine. Do you want to let me on your quads?
[162.2] NJ: Yeah, the thing is, I'm just going to say no. Sorry, that's all I heard. Yes.
[169.96] Frank: I was looking forward to your freestyle. I know. We're going to miss that. I know. Well,
[175.96] NJ: look, there is still a slim chance I might be able to come along and if I can,
[179.4] NJ: I will do everything to be there and put up a few flights of fun.
[183.88] Frank: We've got the freestyle and it's looking like really good weather on Sunday.
[187.88] NJ: Oh, really? I might be able to just come back for the Sunday.
[191.88] Jae: Actually, yeah, you could do. Yeah. In fact, if not, do you want to, I'll tell you what,
[196.2] Jae: maybe we'll hook up something so you can control my call by phone.
[200.6] NJ: There might be a small latency issue to worry about.
[204.12] Jae: Forget about it.
[207.24] Jae: Latency doesn't matter.
[208.44] NJ: Yeah, Skype or something. Just hold it up. Cameras and goggles. Yeah, we'll see what happens.
[212.2] Jae: We can go up to a thousand foot because actually this week and I think it was posted by Andrew.
[216.12] Jae: In fact, Andrew, do you want to share the news that it's happy news about the thousand foot?
[221.0] Frank: Yes. So this is the FPV exemption to say that we can fly FPV and that has been confirmed again
[231.32] Frank: just the other day, which is good because it means we can carry on flying FPV.
[236.68] Jae: So this is the ceiling as well though, isn't it? I think the ironic thing is a commercial
[246.01] Jae: operator, someone who's got the permission for commercial operations can only fly to 400 foot
[250.57] Jae: without getting the extra exemptions. Whereas FPV with a spotter can go up to a thousand feet.
[257.13] Frank: Yeah. So the difference is that if you're completely not one commercial,
[263.93] Frank: but you're flying line of sight, then if it's under seven kilograms, it can be whatever height
[273.85] Frank: is that you can actually keep line of sight contact.
[277.37] Jae: Yeah, like sail planes that have three meter wide wingspan, you can see them.
[281.21] Frank: Yeah, so you can fly as long as it's under seven kilos and as long as you're not making
[286.09] Frank: money out of it, you can fly whatever height you like, assuming there's no air space restrictions
[291.45] Jae: or whatever. If I read correctly though, you might be able to correct me on this,
[295.53] Jae: Andrew, but they don't stipulate you need the buddy box anymore for the FPV.
[300.17] Frank: Correct. So this is part of what the exemption is for is to say that you can fly FPV with only
[310.97] Jae: a spotter and no buddy box. Which is, I mean, let's face it for all this time, a lot of people
[315.77] Jae: have been flying FPV, you've got really annoying asking your buddy to plug in with the same radio,
[321.29] Frank: every single time. I think that's been the past three years, I think that's been the case.
[327.53] Frank: You mean I can stop? Yes, you can stop that. You can stop asking your imaginary buddy to
[334.65] Jae: plug into the package. It's like everybody else does. If you plug in, perfect. Yeah,
[340.17] NJ: it does work, mind you. You just need a placeable spotter with some robot eyes just to sit next to you.
[347.69] Jae: We did actually have one in our group that's cardboard spotter.
[350.89] Frank: I'm bringing this to sell. Does anyone want this?
[354.89] Jae: Good Lord. Okay, Tony, how long have you been trying to sell that?
[358.81] Frank: I haven't really advertised. I have put it on once and then I gave up, but it's an S550. I'm
[367.37] Frank: going to put it on iDrone Storm if anyone wants to see it and buy it.
[372.01] Jae: I believe you need to contact Neil Cody from iDrone if you want to utilize this space. It'll
[378.89] Jae: take a small fee, but that's quite reasonable. You don't have to keep an eye on it and talk
[383.13] Jae: about it or anything like that. How much are you looking for? I don't know what I want for it.
[389.21] Frank: Three and a half hundred. I mean the gimbal on it was 300 on its own. You're getting a NASA
[399.85] Frank: V2 on there and the legs go up on their own. No, when it's coming to land they just pop up.
[412.89] Frank: I think they're called retractable legs on there, yes.
[418.17] Frank: OSD and everything it's got on it, so it's quite a bargain really.
[422.89] Jae: I need to get the link to the YouTube chat for everyone so they can all...
[426.73] Jae: because there's no doubt people in there that I don't even know at the moment. This has had
[429.37] Jae: the shovel day up today. As much as I've been working today and as much as I have
[436.01] Jae: not had a bad day in nervous fixing quads, there's two people on this
[440.65] Jae: call that have been tirelessly working down in a field and they are Clinton and Andrew today,
[446.49] Jae: with scaffolders I believe, putting up tarps, taking up tarps, putting up tarps.
[450.09] Frank: We've had Rich down there along with Jack. Jack's in the chat somewhere.
[455.05] Jae: G'day Jack, I'm going to get the chat up so we can all say g'day.
[458.41] Frank: What's up Rich? What was Rich doing down there putting the tarpaulin up? Someone said to turn
[464.33] Jae: my microphone down. It's not an old message I believe, don't worry about that one.
[469.29] Frank: Okay. Maybe not. I think it's new.
[472.97] Jae: All right, I've got the chat. Here we go, I'll send it to you all but...
[476.73] Frank: If I sound too loud, can you turn me down, Jake?
[480.17] Jae: Yeah, I will turn you down. If we have an answer in the chat, I'll check the levels.
[486.33] Jae: I think you're coming across fine at the moment.
[489.93] Jae: So what's left to do then? Set up the race course, set up the stalls, organize the parking?
[495.85] Frank: Yeah, and the cam thing and all these little things.
[501.13] Jae: Yeah, you don't need to do that. No, I mean it does sound like it's going to be a good turnout.
[506.97] Jae: I think Clinton had some rough approximate numbers of people flying because obviously
[512.09] Jae: he needed a ticket to fly and it was up to 140 or something, wasn't it? Maybe more?
[518.57] Clint: I'm not sure. I'd have to pull the figures out.
[521.85] Jae: We'll make it up. It might be 10,000 people of which 9,000 and some might be put up by the
[526.89] Jae: strong winds of tomorrow. If 10,000 people are turning up, they're not up.
[530.49] Frank: There's 100 million people turning up.
[532.65] Jae: We're allowed to exaggerate it until the day. Judging by the President of the United States,
[538.89] Jae: it means we're allowed to say any size number.
[540.89] Frank: It's going to be great. It's going to be really great.
[544.09] Jae: Anyone who says it is sad.
[547.45] Jae: I'm really looking forward to it. I was thinking this the other night because I've been to each one
[551.05] Jae: and it's amazing the context I've made and the fact that I'm only on this show from knowing certain
[556.33] Jae: people and coming down to the first one. It's actually great to actually put names to faces
[559.85] Jae: of people you might have heard of or seen their YouTube videos and things.
[562.65] Jae: If you're coming down for the first time, you'll meet a lot of friendly folk and say hello.
[568.65] Jae: They don't bite your heads off. In fact, they're very helpful people,
[570.97] Jae: the people that I've known have turned up there.
[573.69] Clint: Yes, it's always been brilliant. I remember last year, my first year last year,
[577.61] Clint: and the amount of people willing to help and it was amazing.
[585.35] Clint: The reason I got involved this year is because it's great.
[589.35] Jae: I met you there, Jay.
[592.39] Jae: You know what? I think was that out on the Sunday? I think I remember meeting you then.
[598.23] Clint: I think we met a few times while we were there.
[600.87] Jae: You weren't the one that crashed your quad. That was Adam, wasn't it, that crashed it into the mud.
[608.87] Clint: Crashed a few times, that's for sure.
[614.66] Jae: I am really looking forward to it. And then, Jay, I hope you can come down.
[617.86] Jae: I believe some people are going to be turning up tomorrow to help out.
[622.26] Jae: So it's not just going to be you guys in it. It is quite amazing how it all comes
[626.74] Jae: from just a bare field to actually having a whole race event and everything.
[631.82] Frank: What's there to do tomorrow, then, guys?
[639.75] Frank: We will have some signage that still needs to go up.
[645.27] Frank: We've got the signage on the footpath, but we need a load of other signage going up.
[649.59] Frank: All the pretty banners and everything. There will be the pits for the team relay
[659.11] Frank: pits. So we've got the netting and that stuff.
[662.63] Jae: Brashing in some stakes.
[665.11] Frank: Yeah, all that needs to be sorted out.
[669.91] Frank: Assembling all the flags and the gates for the racetrack. It will be,
[674.87] Frank: what else, what are we doing? There will be loads of things that we're doing.
[681.18] Frank: It's just all on like a to-do list at the moment in my head.
[691.98] NJ: What time is Clinton's Burger Van rolling in?
[696.15] Clint: My Burger Van?
[700.71] Clint: You want me cooking?
[702.47] Jae: I wasn't that bad.
[706.07] Jae: Well, there is food on site, isn't there?
[710.52] Frank: The food will be there Saturday and Sunday. So tomorrow is a bit of scavenge for yourselves,
[719.08] Frank: campfires and things, which can be fun.
[723.08] Frank: Talking of campfires, are we allowed campfires? Because I was going to bring my pit.
[729.48] Frank: But to protect the farmer's grass and keep all the food there for the sheep,
[735.96] Frank: we're going to ask that campfires are kept to the courtyard in the middle of the urbex hub.
[744.44] Frank: Could we have a fire pit? Because I was going to bring my fire pit. Yes.
[753.67] Jae: As long as it protects the grass. That's what they don't want 100 fires.
[757.35] Frank: I'll bring a fire pit and a slab of pavement or something.
[762.95] Frank: And a fire engine, just to be sure.
[767.91] Frank: I'm going to have my van the weekend, so I'll have 350 liters of pure water in the back.
[772.39] Frank: So I'm on my own fire engine.
[775.91] Jae: I think you'll be firing local residents there and down the street on the beach.
[780.79] Frank: I was thinking about, because I heard it's going to be quite cold.
[784.79] Frank: I can plug my hose back into itself.
[788.39] Frank: So I might get my hose out and lay it on the floor, like underfloor heating,
[793.83] Frank: and then put the tent on top, plug it back in.
[797.51] Frank: And then I can turn my heater on and I can have underfloor heating in my tent.
[801.19] Jae: I know where my tent is.
[802.71] Jae: I feel right now, doesn't it? Nothing's going to go wrong
[805.67] Jae: until you burn yourself as it's heated up too much or it bursts a leak and fills your
[809.99] Jae: quadrant of your way in.
[811.11] Frank: That could happen, but it's worth the risk, I think.
[814.47] Jae: I'd say do it, because we need these little spectacles and we need these little happy actions.
[819.99] Frank: I'm going to. Underfloor heating, just like the Romans.
[823.43] Jae: And does that extend to other tents?
[825.11] Jae: Maybe you could run it across several.
[827.51] Frank: Well, it's 100 meters, so I could do a few tents, if you want.
[830.63] Jae: All right, so if you get down early enough, you can have underfloor heating for the weekend.
[835.75] Clint: Of course, spot next to Tony.
[837.99] Jae: You know, at that point, if I were you, I'd just consider speaking to the farmer,
[841.35] Jae: because the farmer does have some accommodation for air shows only this weekend.
[846.63] Jae: If you haven't got accommodation sorted, you don't have a tent and you really can't be
[850.23] Jae: facing a tent.
[851.43] Jae: There are potential cottage on the farm that you use,
[854.87] Jae: but the bedding, I believe, may not turn up until Saturday.
[857.99] Jae: So take a sleeping bag, just in case.
[860.95] Jae: But that is an option.
[861.91] Jae: I don't know what it costs, but that is an option.
[865.11] Jae: Or there's Tony's underfloor heating.
[868.79] Frank: Yeah, bring your own tent.
[873.64] Frank: Laura in a chat is saying, LDI should do a video, because it would be funny.
[880.44] Frank: Video of the weekend.
[881.8] Frank: So who's up for recording everything and then putting an LDI video together?
[887.24] Jae: I mean, last year, we had fossil stuff putting out a quite a nice bit of sum of money.
[892.6] Jae: But I think maybe this year, what we'll do is we'll scavenge around
[895.32] Jae: and actually we'll have our own little, nothing at the same price,
[898.44] Jae: but we'll have a let's run out for the best and funniest.
[900.92] Jae: And maybe the most dire videos.
[902.68] Jae: We'll have the BB Prize, like a runner up prize, and maybe a main prize.
[906.36] Jae: Because at least then people go out and try and film something.
[908.68] Jae: And actually, that is unless there's somebody that's got a better idea
[912.84] Jae: or more money to put into it.
[914.28] Jae: But it's a good way we can do.
[915.88] Jae: I'm sure we can.
[918.82] Frank: I'm going to be filming bits and bobs.
[922.02] Jae: Don't forget, the ongoing competition that's still open,
[924.74] Jae: because there's no closing date yet, is the FPV stances.
[927.46] Jae: And actually, when that many people fly in this weekend,
[929.62] Jae: you might get some classic FPV stance photos.
[933.54] Jae: So what's this competition?
[935.3] Jae: Are we running in it?
[936.26] Jae: Well, it's a disorganized competition.
[938.26] Jae: But basically, people have funny stances when they're FPVing.
[941.06] Jae: You get the Stevie Wonder.
[942.98] Jae: They're back.
[943.94] Jae: You get the people that are action shots,
[945.22] Jae: like the 100 Over Radio is only going to fall over.
[947.78] Jae: Yeah, there's just all these different poses.
[949.54] Jae: And we're going to try and catalog it so you can say,
[951.22] Jae: ah, they're a Stevie Wonder or they're a, I don't know, action man.
[955.22] Jae: There's no official names.
[956.18] Jae: But I did actually try and catch N.J. out,
[959.06] Jae: but he only does a slight wobble left and right.
[960.98] Jae: He's not worth it.
[964.34] Jae: Mainly planted.
[965.62] Jae: Years of training.
[968.9] Jae: No, N.J., what have you been up to?
[970.26] Jae: I believe you've been playing with cameras yet again.
[973.3] NJ: Yeah, I've been furiously trying to get through the many, many review videos.
[979.54] NJ: I'm so behind at the minute.
[980.74] NJ: So yeah, I'm furiously trying to get through everything.
[982.9] NJ: I'm in the middle of this Beast SX build.
[987.54] NJ: And I've got to say, of all the components that is giving me the biggest
[992.98] NJ: chip, it has to be this new beta flight F3 controller.
[997.14] NJ: As much as I love all the features of this flight controller,
[1002.98] NJ: the biggest problem with it that I have found is that it requires an enormous amount of heat
[1009.78] NJ: on the ground rail, specifically an enormous amount of heat to be able to solder anything.
[1016.9] NJ: And the problem that they've got is there's no thermal relief around any of the pads.
[1022.5] NJ: So basically, if you want to heat up any one of the pads, any one of the ground pads,
[1027.14] NJ: be it a signal pad, be it a ground pin, be it an ESC pad, you've got to heat the whole rail up.
[1033.7] NJ: So it's not until the board gets almost molten that you'll actually start
[1039.46] NJ: getting it hot enough to be able to be able to
[1041.32] NJ: Even be a signal kit.
[1044.74] NJ: Well, yeah, for the ground rail, absolutely, because it's got an enormous copper pour on it
[1051.54] NJ: because it's success rated, so it needs to be.
[1056.02] NJ: I don't know whether they'll revise this, but I think they need to,
[1058.58] NJ: is to put some thermal relief pads in there to stop that happening.
[1064.26] NJ: And there's kind of no way around it.
[1065.78] NJ: And I'm running my soldering iron at 450 degrees, and I'm having to hold it on there
[1071.7] NJ: for a good time to get the board hot enough before I can actually get anything to take.
[1076.98] NJ: And this is the one that I have to do the build video on.
[1080.34] NJ: So it's really making progress slow.
[1083.62] NJ: But the actual functionality on the board, and in fact, it's got great OSD current sensor.
[1091.94] NJ: It's filtered for the video.
[1094.5] NJ: It's the OSD is configurable within the GUI.
[1100.34] NJ: Yeah, it's got an SD card slot for your black box logging.
[1103.86] NJ: It's really, it's trying to do an awful lot.
[1108.82] NJ: So I'm hoping it's going to be worth the aggro of the soldering that's involved with it at the minute.
[1118.18] NJ: But yeah, so that's what I'm doing at the minute.
[1120.42] NJ: And I suppose more topical than that is yesterday or the day before I released my
[1125.22] NJ: round up video, kind of round up and summary on the run cam three,
[1129.06] NJ: only to find out today, as you pointed out, that it's being discontinued in the US
[1132.98] NJ: over some some patent with GoPro.
[1137.22] Jae: Yeah, like somebody said in one of the groups actually, they said, you know, like,
[1140.74] Jae: there's a constant across the car industry, there's a lot of people that there's a lot
[1144.5] Jae: of standard sized connectors, a lot of standard sized things.
[1146.74] Jae: So, you know, why can't someone just have the same design?
[1150.82] Frank: I didn't think GoPro invented the cube or the bottle.
[1156.9] Jae: They had the original session, didn't they?
[1158.9] Jae: But someone was saying that the Polaroid cube might have come out first.
[1162.26] NJ: It did. Yeah, the cube came out first.
[1164.26] NJ: And then the cube took GoPro to court over it.
[1168.66] NJ: So yeah, there's I guess there's this is business, isn't it?
[1171.86] NJ: Up at the up at the top end like this, there's going to be a lot of shit thrown going on.
[1177.06] NJ: And yeah, I don't know where that's going to end up.
[1180.1] NJ: But at the minute, GoPro, a big company, Runk Ham are not as big as GoPro.
[1186.58] NJ: And they are, you know, are they quite in the same heavyweight division?
[1192.34] NJ: If they start throwing around legal letters, I don't know.
[1195.38] NJ: But that's that's quite a that's quite a thing to suddenly turn around and say,
[1200.5] NJ: a market is as big as the US to say, that's it.
[1203.54] NJ: We're just continuing it.
[1204.98] NJ: That means something pretty serious has been said.
[1210.5] NJ: So yeah, I guess I don't know.
[1212.42] NJ: But I did I did see earlier the link for the BBC article on the Polaroid cube
[1219.54] NJ: fighting with GoPro over a patent.
[1221.3] NJ: So I don't know what patents they're specifically relating to,
[1225.46] NJ: because that would probably make for a more interesting discussion on it.
[1228.02] NJ: But I guess it's a case of watch this space and see what see what happens out there.
[1233.38] Frank: We can still buy it in the UK and stuff.
[1235.86] Frank: And it's not going to go away from you.
[1238.26] NJ: Yeah, for once, for once, FPV restrictions, it's good to be in the European Union for a change.
[1247.94] NJ: We're normally on the losing side of all the FPV stuff.
[1250.26] NJ: So yeah, we're OK for a while.
[1252.1] NJ: But, you know, generally stuff like this, if it hits the US and it goes through,
[1256.42] NJ: that kind of thing will surely make its way to the UK manufacturing.
[1261.46] Jae: If they say your manufacturing is the same,
[1263.22] Jae: then it doesn't matter what market you're putting it out in.
[1265.14] Jae: It's just going to stop.
[1266.42] Jae: So I don't think that I think this was ceasing production now.
[1269.54] Jae: So even if it was still available in the UK,
[1271.22] Jae: you're not going to be able to get them because they're going to.
[1273.7] NJ: It must be one component or element of the design that is
[1279.14] NJ: undisputedly infringing on the GoPro patent
[1282.58] NJ: for them to actually cease production and say, we have to redesign this.
[1289.94] NJ: Because that's that's a big step.
[1291.22] NJ: Normally, there'd be a lot of legal to and fro before.
[1294.18] NJ: Maybe some of that's already happened.
[1295.86] NJ: And we're just further down the line.
[1298.5] NJ: But to actually cease production, there's this.
[1300.58] NJ: It's got to be pretty unanimous that they are infringing a patent.
[1306.02] Frank: So it's quite interesting because the GoPro.
[1311.7] Frank: So the GoPro session came out after the Polaroid Cube.
[1317.38] Frank: And there was the argument originally that Polaroid brought up an argument against GoPro
[1322.9] Frank: saying you're copying our design.
[1326.74] Frank: Then GoPro, I think, went back and said, you're infringing on our patent for a waterproof
[1336.98] Frank: cube box shape.
[1339.54] Frank: And then also, I think it was the case I read, wasn't it?
[1344.02] NJ: Or they brought out a waterproof case and GoPro came back over that.
[1348.02] NJ: Yeah.
[1348.42] Frank: Yeah.
[1348.82] Frank: And then also like the viewing, like previewing the camera
[1355.62] Frank: position from your phone, having that app on your phone to be able to see what the camera
[1360.5] Frank: is seeing.
[1360.82] Frank: It doesn't help us a lot, though, because GoPro is more expensive than the Runcam.
[1366.26] NJ: Yeah.
[1366.5] NJ: And as I mentioned in my review, the GoPro app completely sucks compared to the Runcam app.
[1372.34] NJ: The Runcam app is brilliant.
[1374.02] Jae: I suppose GoPro saw a threat to their sales and probably quite a sizable threat to their sales.
[1381.06] Jae: And that's why they've probably started to push this.
[1383.54] Frank: Well, GoPro needs to put their prices down a bit, then.
[1386.66] Jae: Don't forget, GoPro lost a lot of money with their Karma drone.
[1389.62] Jae: And so anything drone-related now, no, it's hard.
[1391.86] Frank: I'm really getting this.
[1393.54] Frank: They did indeed.
[1394.74] Frank: They wasted a lot of money on that, I think.
[1396.74] NJ: It'll be interesting to see also how this affects the Fox ear box cube,
[1402.26] NJ: whatever it's been called with the box.
[1404.18] NJ: Yeah.
[1405.38] NJ: Then you see one that's I'm due to get a sample of that when it's before it comes out.
[1411.94] NJ: But whether I'll receive it now, whether they're also going to be in trouble, I don't know.
[1417.78] NJ: So that's another one to keep an eye on, because that looked like the kind of it looked like it
[1422.66] NJ: was going to sit quite neatly between the Runcam and the GoPro in terms of price points.
[1431.7] NJ: And it's a 4K camera.
[1433.86] NJ: So it looked like it was going to be perhaps that one worth making the extra stretch to
[1437.78] NJ: that had more in common with the GoPro.
[1441.54] NJ: So that's kind of annoying if that's now going to might not come out.
[1446.9] NJ: That would be a real shame.
[1448.26] NJ: So I don't know.
[1450.1] NJ: We'll have to wait and see.
[1451.14] NJ: But these guys are just going to fight it out, I guess.
[1453.38] NJ: And we'll have to kind of sit tight and deal with the results of it.
[1457.3] Jae: Yeah, I mean, run cam in the GoPro mounts kind of.
[1463.94] Jae: So it is very close.
[1465.78] Jae: We'll wait and see what happens.
[1467.38] NJ: Yeah, I haven't.
[1469.06] NJ: Every TPU mount I've had so far, even the ones with the kind of tightest tolerances and
[1475.38] NJ: best printed, the Runcam has fit into.
[1479.62] NJ: So if it's a dimensions thing, it really is just the lens that protrudes slightly further than
[1485.78] NJ: the GoPro one does.
[1486.74] NJ: Other than that, they're all incredibly close, I'd say within half a millimeter.
[1492.18] Jae: But the SD card, because I've never tried to put an SD card in Runcam 3.
[1495.7] Jae: Is it going sideways or is it on an angle like on the session?
[1500.98] NJ: No, it goes in.
[1501.94] NJ: It goes in perpendicular.
[1503.54] NJ: If that's what you say, it doesn't go in a sort of funny 45 degree slum.
[1509.14] NJ: And, you know, one of the things Runcam said they'd address was a door over the SD card.
[1514.58] NJ: But again, that's the thing popping GoPro and it looks like that's perhaps not the way
[1519.78] NJ: they want to go.
[1521.94] NJ: So, yeah, I just don't know where that's going to end up.
[1526.84] Jae: Yeah, I suppose all these people that couldn't quite stretch to a GoPro,
[1530.04] Jae: you don't have to find another solution.
[1532.44] Jae: I think Yami was supposed to be releasing a similar cube size.
[1537.56] Clint: Can you just get your GoPro, Jay?
[1539.72] Jae: I did eventually.
[1541.24] Clint: Have you tried it yet?
[1542.6] Jae: Um, I've recorded a couple of things, but nothing major with that.
[1545.88] Jae: I haven't put it on my quad.
[1547.48] Jae: In fact, there's a, I mean, there's a few of his,
[1550.36] Jae: Clegg has actually got one and he's put one in a TPU mount on his Chameleon.
[1553.16] Jae: And he's getting vibrations through the mount, because the mount wasn't stiff enough.
[1557.96] Jae: I think you mount yours directly straight onto the plate, don't you?
[1561.08] Jae: With a strap.
[1563.16] Clint: I have a TPU mount.
[1570.52] Clint: It goes in naturally, but not on the Chameleon.
[1577.05] Clint: Straight on the top plate.
[1580.6] NJ: I mean, the other thing not to discount is actually the session four.
[1586.04] NJ: You know, I had one of those as well, the original GoPro session.
[1589.96] NJ: And although the image isn't quite as good as the GoPro five, it's still,
[1596.6] NJ: it's still a great image and it still does decent high resolutions.
[1601.0] NJ: It's still waterproof.
[1602.04] NJ: It's still got a great microphone.
[1604.44] Jae: The Runken session four is still, I think, £180 these days.
[1609.72] NJ: I think you can get it even cheaper than that now.
[1611.64] NJ: It's still, you know, between,
[1615.96] NJ: floating somewhere between the Runken three and the session five.
[1619.24] NJ: So it's just one that I think people have kind of forgotten about,
[1622.68] NJ: but it's still a very viable option.
[1625.32] Jae: And it also pays to not just go for your favorite supplies.
[1628.04] Jae: I mean, I managed to get a session five brand new,
[1632.36] Jae: for £209, completely sealed in the box.
[1635.0] Jae: Everything's still sealed.
[1635.88] Jae: Wow, that's good.
[1637.08] Jae: So if you're sharp, you can sometimes find good ones.
[1640.2] Jae: Although the delivery was shined.
[1642.92] Clint: Was that direct from China?
[1643.96] Clint: Yeah.
[1644.52] Jae: No, no.
[1645.48] Jae: It was supposed to turn up on Saturday from a very,
[1648.04] Jae: very, very slave oriented company called Very, as in slave picking and stuff.
[1653.16] Jae: And obviously they're overworked.
[1654.12] Jae: They couldn't get my first out in time on Friday to get it to me on Saturday.
[1658.04] Jae: That's not nice.
[1659.88] Jae: No, there's nothing worse than waiting for bits.
[1661.4] Jae: No.
[1661.56] Jae: And they say it's going to turn up one day and it doesn't.
[1664.04] Jae: I'm happy I got it now.
[1665.96] Jae: I mean, I'd had a GoPro before.
[1667.88] Jae: The Yami did very well with the script and the super view.
[1674.86] Jae: Okay.
[1675.1] Jae: It wasn't quite a super view.
[1676.22] Jae: It was a poor man's super view.
[1678.7] Jae: But it was a good camera for the right price point.
[1681.18] Jae: And it's a shame if GoPro are going to quash anything else
[1683.34] Jae: and still rise up there, hike up their prices.
[1688.28] Jae: You could always just record DVR this weekend
[1690.12] Jae: and not smash up one GoPro,
[1691.64] Jae: but everyone wants HD footage of how fast they can rip around that course, don't they?
[1697.56] Frank: I'm not going to record HD this time.
[1701.32] Frank: No.
[1702.12] Frank: I don't think so, no.
[1704.92] Jae: Is that because you have no working quads or five a day?
[1708.04] Jae: Well, they're working again.
[1709.16] Frank: Well, they are.
[1710.68] Frank: Well, I need to tune my Revo, which I'm flying the weekend,
[1715.88] Frank: but it's been windy and gray and cold.
[1719.32] Frank: I haven't done anything.
[1721.4] Frank: So I'm hoping to do that Friday at some point tomorrow,
[1724.76] Frank: but I'm also hoping to come down and do some helping down the valley ready for Saturday
[1732.36] Frank: and go to work as well.
[1733.72] Frank: So it's going to be busy tomorrow.
[1738.33] Jae: Yeah, I've still got to travel a couple of hours to get down.
[1741.29] Jae: People are coming down from Scotland and they're all traveling down for the road.
[1744.01] Jae: By the way, hello to Striker, blood zero, green patches,
[1746.65] Jae: Mario, Clegga, Clinton.
[1748.73] Jae: Oh, Clinton's on the call.
[1749.61] Jae: We don't see him either.
[1753.05] Jae: You're usually in the chat.
[1754.01] Jae: You're a different listener, man.
[1755.13] Jae: Let's pretend we're on the show.
[1756.01] Jae: Laura is on the chat.
[1758.01] Jae: She's the one this week.
[1759.45] Jae: I'm sure there's others that are Matthew Gemmons.
[1761.13] Jae: I'm sorry if I've missed a new welcome.
[1764.49] Jae: Yeah, so Tony, when's all our folks from Scotland coming down?
[1769.45] Frank: Saturday morning.
[1770.33] Frank: I think they're going to be here by half nine.
[1775.29] Frank: Or I think I know they're flying down all the lads from Scotland.
[1780.25] Frank: So get to Gatwick and then I don't know what they're doing.
[1784.01] Frank: I don't know if they're hiring a car or what,
[1785.69] Frank: but they are definitely going to be there Saturday morning, which is good.
[1790.33] Frank: I like seeing them not every year at the mini air show.
[1795.37] Jae: So the winds tomorrow, I've heard conflicting reports,
[1798.17] Jae: but they're up to 25 miles per hour.
[1800.97] Jae: Oh, yeah.
[1802.41] Jae: Much more in Saturday, isn't it?
[1803.77] Jae: Sorry.
[1807.53] Jae: I mean, we had put up some gates the other weekend just for a bit of practice
[1811.61] Jae: and it was blowing a gale, probably similar sort of winds.
[1815.13] Jae: And I've come to the realization in this country,
[1816.97] Jae: you just have to learn to fly a wind now.
[1820.57] Jae: And it's not too bad if you're tracking through gates.
[1822.97] Jae: It's when I, what I found is when I was putting,
[1824.89] Jae: punching it up to go through a split estimate and that's when it threw me out.
[1829.69] Jae: Do we know if, have we got any kind of information,
[1832.65] Jae: if there's split s or anything that, you know, any higher updates or is it a standard run?
[1839.13] Frank: And let me dig out the updated track.
[1846.09] Jae: You mean you've got the updated track.
[1847.21] Jae: How much do we have to pay to get a copy of it?
[1850.65] Clint: 499 pounds.
[1851.85] Clint: There we go.
[1852.57] Clint: He knows.
[1853.53] Clint: Payable to me.
[1855.13] Jae: Okay. Hold on.
[1855.85] Jae: I'm passing it through now.
[1857.21] Jae: PayPal's okay.
[1857.93] Jae: Yeah. Definitely.
[1859.77] Jae: Yeah. PayPal's perfect now.
[1866.09] Jae: I suppose, I mean, it's weather dependent and everyone has to put up.
[1870.33] Frank: There is a up and over or over and under.
[1873.29] Frank: I can't look at which way around it is.
[1875.61] Clint: Well, I was talking with Martin Wright about using the tower as a split s
[1880.89] Clint: because I think he was, we were talking about it the other day,
[1884.01] Clint: but I don't know.
[1884.97] Clint: I haven't seen that new upgraded racetrack.
[1887.61] Clint: So be interesting, not at an unfair advantage.
[1892.09] Jae: See, have you filled in all the teams now?
[1894.81] Jae: All the team registrations are closed.
[1896.65] Frank: All the other industry teams are closed.
[1899.29] Frank: All that's all locked in.
[1900.89] Frank: All the transponders are locked in and that's all ready and set to go.
[1906.33] Jae: So there's no one we need to single out and name and shame on this call
[1910.17] Jae: because they haven't actually provided enough details.
[1912.41] Frank: No. We were trying to get in jab.
[1918.33] Frank: Jab 1A, James Bowles, last minute, him and his team.
[1923.45] Frank: Unfortunately, their transport is not going to be functional.
[1933.69] Frank: It's waiting on parts.
[1935.69] Frank: So unfortunately, they're not going to make it.
[1938.33] Frank: But otherwise, we were up to the full 16 teams.
[1944.57] Frank: A bit unfortunate that one team's had to drop out.
[1947.85] Jae: But yeah, it gives me more of a chance of having a chance to win.
[1952.57] Jae: I'm looking up.
[1953.37] Frank: Yeah, there you go.
[1954.57] Frank: So you're already ahead.
[1957.77] Frank: We're not going to come last.
[1960.57] Clint: We're not going to come first either.
[1963.05] Jae: You know, because a few people I've been talking to,
[1966.81] Jae: it's their first ever race.
[1968.01] Jae: It's the best of a show like this.
[1970.25] Jae: And I think a lot of people are getting nervous.
[1971.93] Jae: And despite the Carlos last week,
[1974.49] Jae: showing his tips on how to chill out and relax music.
[1980.57] Jae: If you haven't done something like this before,
[1982.17] Jae: it can probably be a bit daunting,
[1984.25] Frank: especially with the added double jeopardy of being in the quite high winds.
[1991.45] Jae: Yeah, you know, well, I don't think you notice the winds
[1996.57] Jae: as much once you put the goggles on.
[1998.33] Jae: But even so, it does affect the quad.
[2000.89] Jae: All I'd say to people is don't worry.
[2002.41] Jae: It's about having a go on a racetrack and actually flying and competing.
[2008.33] Jae: It's not about winning.
[2009.13] Jae: It's about meeting some other people, having fun and actually giving it a go.
[2012.89] Jae: I think that's what Mini Airshow has always been about,
[2015.13] Jae: of having a go at something maybe you haven't done before.
[2018.49] Frank: And the team format is something that is not done,
[2025.93] Frank: as far as I'm aware, pretty much anywhere else.
[2030.41] Frank: I'm not going to say that for definite.
[2032.01] Jae: Yeah, no, I don't think you can have a thing.
[2034.17] Jae: He was certainly a first for road racing last year, wasn't it?
[2037.37] Frank: Yeah.
[2037.85] Frank: And I'm pretty sure he hasn't done it anywhere else since.
[2042.65] Frank: And I'm pretty sure he's not going to do it again.
[2046.89] Frank: He's right only for Mini Airshow, right?
[2051.61] Frank: And possibly not even after this year,
[2054.33] Frank: unless there's a big change in software,
[2058.25] Frank: just because I'm sure anyone that's been involved in the team relay
[2062.65] Frank: has known about all the issues of needing transponder information well in advance
[2068.73] Frank: so that Eric's got the time to set it all up because it is a very involved process.
[2073.29] Frank: So if you turn up on the day and are like,
[2076.33] Frank: ah, I got my transponder number wrong, you will not be popular at all.
[2081.85] Jae: So bear that in mind.
[2084.33] Jae: Well, you may actually be even more popular for somebody else
[2086.41] Jae: because you might count against their laps.
[2088.41] Frank: Yeah, it might just be that your laps don't get counted, unfortunately.
[2096.01] Jae: A big credit, actually.
[2098.65] Jae: When you turn up on the day, it's easy to just have a go and say,
[2101.85] Jae: ah, that was fun, blah, blah, blah.
[2103.21] Jae: But there's a lot of tireless work that has gone on from the racing side.
[2107.45] Frank: I think into the racing, into the team format,
[2112.81] Frank: all of that has been a huge amount of work on Eric.
[2114.81] Frank: He's done that.
[2116.17] Frank: Yeah.
[2116.65] Frank: Very, you know, really bent over backwards for us to get this going.
[2121.45] Frank: So, yeah, we definitely appreciate that.
[2123.53] Frank: And hopefully, this time next year, the VTAC system will have been come on even more leaps
[2134.41] Frank: and bounds than it had between last year and this year
[2136.73] Frank: in that it don't think it existed last year.
[2140.57] Frank: So we'll see if maybe next year, there'll just be a team format thing in the BTAC software
[2147.69] Frank: already made.
[2148.57] Frank: It doesn't need any jiggery-pokery to make it work.
[2152.17] Frank: And Eric can just like lie back and it'll all work and you can turn up on the day.
[2158.33] Jae: I don't think anyone can ever just lie back at the show.
[2162.41] Frank: No, that's true.
[2163.45] Frank: I may be pushing it a bit far, but I can dream.
[2167.53] Frank: I can dream.
[2168.89] Jae: Oh, you can.
[2169.85] Jae: I mean, I hope you and Clinton, Fraser may not be able to fly with his dislocated shoulders,
[2174.09] Jae: but at least I hope you and Clinton get at least one battery in somewhere.
[2180.01] Jae: I mean, Clinton shoot because he's racy.
[2182.49] Frank: Well, I think Jack's silent in the chat now, probably because he's fixing my quads.
[2187.37] Frank: So I just gave my quantum and like fix this, please.
[2195.21] Frank: I want one to work for the weekend.
[2198.57] Clint: Yes, I will do that as well.
[2203.77] Jae: It's better to fix all your quads now Thursday than and this is a perfect setting to do it.
[2208.25] Jae: We'll chat about if anyone's stuck right now, we've got the very knowledgeable
[2211.13] Jae: N.J. on the call, so he can always.
[2214.25] Frank: Let's ask N.J. a question now.
[2216.97] Frank: So if it's going to be windy the weekend, should we put our
[2224.97] Frank: pits up?
[2225.69] Frank: Should we put our eye up in the pits?
[2230.01] NJ: To be honest with you, when it comes to wind, it's really more about having a tuned
[2234.89] NJ: eye term than it is a P term.
[2236.57] NJ: You won't really find that the quad is adversely affected by wind,
[2242.25] NJ: unless you're talking about some pretty serious wind.
[2244.89] NJ: I mean, I've flown 25 mile an hour gusts plus,
[2249.37] NJ: and I've been pretty shocked at how well the pit controllers deal with it.
[2256.09] NJ: I mean, generally speaking, gusts of wind, I mean, it's large bodies of moving air.
[2263.93] NJ: It's not anything that's actually going to cause the kind of,
[2267.37] NJ: but you won't get any oscillation.
[2269.29] NJ: The worst kind of oscillation you'll ever see in quads is during things like prop wash,
[2273.61] NJ: which is hard, fast turning and very aggressive split-essing and things like that.
[2278.81] NJ: So when it comes to sort of higher winds and things like that,
[2283.61] NJ: the only thing I would recommend that you pay attention to,
[2286.33] NJ: especially when you're racing, provided the kind of not necessarily the gates,
[2291.61] NJ: but the flags, a lot of them were weather vain.
[2294.89] NJ: It's important when you're racing to look at which way the flags are weather veining,
[2298.89] NJ: because that will tell you which way you're going to suffer drift when you're on a straight line.
[2303.37] NJ: And in fact, the last time I went out and we set up a course and I put that video up with me
[2307.53] NJ: just having a go around the track, you can see which direction all the flags are weather veining.
[2312.25] NJ: And it really helped, especially on the far straights to kind of angle into the wind
[2318.01] NJ: and accommodate for that drift that you're going to get.
[2321.05] NJ: So it's really drift that's going to be your biggest problem is know your wind direction
[2326.41] NJ: on the course and know when you're going to be fighting it.
[2329.45] NJ: And when the wind, I mean, if you're splitting S-ing into the wind,
[2332.97] NJ: you're going to have the resistance to make that split S very tight.
[2335.77] NJ: And if you're split S-ing downwind, you're going to start the split S.
[2339.45] NJ: And if you don't put the power on quickly,
[2342.09] NJ: that you're going to be miles away from the gate before you start approaching it again
[2345.37] NJ: to come back to it.
[2346.73] NJ: So that's really the biggest effect of wind in terms of it,
[2349.77] NJ: affecting your P term, though you really won't find any good need for that at all.
[2354.49] NJ: So yeah, pitch should be fine.
[2356.01] NJ: Just watch the flags, know which direction the wind's coming from
[2358.97] NJ: and hopefully that will help you get around the course.
[2362.01] NJ: One thing to be on a huge adrenaline rush anyway.
[2365.37] Jae: Wind isn't a uniform, you know, all the air.
[2368.89] Jae: There's different pressures within and when you get wind, you get different air pressures.
[2372.41] Jae: So it's a husband drop and have all sorts of weird problems just from different pressures anyway.
[2378.17] NJ: Yeah, I just keep an eye on the flags.
[2380.17] NJ: And just as you're going, it's a really hard thing.
[2383.29] NJ: You're concentrating so much when you race and you're so focused,
[2387.13] NJ: it's just not something you think about.
[2388.73] NJ: So really, it's something just to try and get in your head before you put the goggles down.
[2392.97] NJ: Just glance over at the course and look at which way the wind is moving
[2396.57] NJ: because you've got no perception of wind once you're flying.
[2400.33] NJ: If you've got nothing to tell, you know, if you're in a real aircraft,
[2403.85] NJ: you've got immediate feedback on the controls and the aircraft shifts,
[2408.09] NJ: you feel it in your body, all those things that are removed
[2410.65] NJ: when you're looking through a set of goggles.
[2412.73] NJ: So you have to look for the visual cues and then make the adjustments.
[2416.01] NJ: Otherwise, you know, the wind can quite easily push your way off your target for a gate,
[2420.49] NJ: or it might, you know, change the way you turn around a gate,
[2423.77] NJ: round a flag and push you into another one.
[2426.33] NJ: So if it's anything over kind of 15 knots, 12 to 15 knots,
[2431.77] NJ: I think you'd be, or anything over that, you're gusting over 12 to 15 knots,
[2435.61] NJ: then if you want an advantage, just have a little, you know, eyeball the flags.
[2441.85] Frank: What's that in real money? Knots, Marlin?
[2444.09] NJ: Oh, at that level, they're fairly similar to miles.
[2446.65] Jae: Yeah, maybe 16, 17 miles an hour.
[2449.53] Jae: Yeah.
[2450.73] Frank: 12 knots is 14 miles an hour.
[2455.93] NJ: Thank you, Google.
[2456.49] Frank: Knots, 12 knots, yeah.
[2459.53] Frank: Three quads.
[2461.05] NJ: And if you have a proper windsock down there, you can tell by reading up
[2464.81] NJ: an actual aviation windsock by the segments and how far each segment droops down.
[2470.49] NJ: So if you've got the first section of a windsock straight and then it droops down,
[2474.89] NJ: then you've got five knots of wind.
[2476.09] NJ: If the second section is out and it droops down from there, you've got 10 knots of wind.
[2479.93] NJ: So someone go and pick up an aviation windsock and stick it down.
[2483.93] Jae: I am actually going to be just concentrating
[2486.49] Jae: solely on getting through gates and around corners.
[2489.53] Jae: Wind or no wind.
[2490.81] Jae: It doesn't matter.
[2491.61] Jae: There's a gate through it.
[2494.57] NJ: I'll just do one of those before you fly and then you'll look really serious.
[2498.57] Jae: Genuinely want one of those, though.
[2500.65] Frank: I've got a window meter thing.
[2502.49] Frank: Wind meter.
[2505.05] Jae: Yeah, I'm going to bring mine down just so we can record the highest winds, I think,
[2508.25] Jae: on the race day.
[2508.97] Jae: Or maybe we strap it to the top of a pole at the top of the hill so we can get that.
[2513.21] Clint: So we'll just strap in old socks to the back of our quads.
[2515.29] Clint: Is that what you said?
[2517.37] Jae: Yeah, old socks with a hole cut in the end.
[2519.21] Jae: Have to have the hole.
[2520.17] Clint: Oh, we'll cut hole in as well.
[2523.29] Jae: Yeah, if you've got the right, you know, you can sock someone through the hole in the front.
[2526.09] Jae: Hey, here's one I prepared earlier.
[2530.09] Jae: Yeah.
[2531.61] Jae: Who knows that?
[2532.25] Jae: You know, like what the thing about this, the UK and the weather is,
[2535.05] Jae: you never really know what's going to happen.
[2536.89] Jae: So on the day, you can have a rough idea, but you never really know.
[2541.13] Jae: So plan for everything and bring water because it might turn into a heatwave thing.
[2547.21] Frank: Okay, bring water.
[2548.81] Frank: That's always a good idea.
[2552.33] Frank: It's looking dry at the moment, but I'm not saying that.
[2556.65] Frank: So make sure you bring lots of waterproof coats and, you know, dry clothes and things.
[2564.25] Frank: And even when it gets rid of the rain, if you bring those.
[2567.45] Jae: If anyone went to the one last year, Jack, who was down at the build area on the Saturday,
[2574.97] Jae: Tinker with Quads and building a quad, he found it really bad because even though it's sunny
[2578.89] Jae: weather during the day, it got freezing cold at night.
[2580.97] Jae: So also for that, you don't want to wake up on Sunday when you've got a big freestyle event
[2585.61] Jae: to really pull off and you're all tired and not.
[2589.53] Frank: You don't want to be like waking up with trench foot or something.
[2592.81] Frank: So, you know, make sure you are prepared.
[2595.77] Jae: If you do get cold, by the way, you can just move into Tony's 10.
[2598.33] Jae: He's got on the floor.
[2600.01] Frank: He's got on the floor heating, yeah.
[2602.25] Jae: He's at the sublet, yeah, your tent.
[2608.41] Frank: If you bring enough dry clothes, you'll be fine.
[2614.31] NJ: So, sorry, we've just got a question in the question that I thought looked quite interesting.
[2619.91] NJ: So it's from Chris Alt, I think it says here.
[2623.35] NJ: Okay, so over 50% throttle my front end nods.
[2627.03] NJ: It's not CAG and I've been tuning.
[2629.43] NJ: My eye is at 59.
[2630.71] NJ: I don't really want to exceed 60, any suggestions.
[2633.67] NJ: So the chances are, this is a tricky one because I-term is quite a slow reacting thing.
[2643.43] NJ: And when you go too far with I-term, and I mean at the real extreme end of I-term tuning,
[2648.55] NJ: if you go too far, you get very kind of, they're not like P-term oscillations,
[2653.99] NJ: which are very quick and I mean like really aggressive fluttering.
[2657.19] NJ: You get a much more slow wobble, much more exacerbated,
[2660.47] NJ: and that's more indicative of I-term where you've gone too far.
[2664.31] NJ: Now, interestingly, and what makes I-term a little bit tricky to tune,
[2668.15] NJ: is if the I-term is too low and you are in forward flight and it starts to nod,
[2674.07] NJ: and it could nod or it could raise, that can be a sign that the I-term is too low,
[2679.27] NJ: but it can also be a sign that you've gone too far with the I-term.
[2683.19] NJ: So you can get the same problems, actually showing the same symptoms at both ends of the scale.
[2690.63] NJ: So what I would be tempted to do is actually back that down.
[2694.23] NJ: Now, with I-term, the way I check it is fast forward flight,
[2698.79] NJ: and again have the throttle at around 50%.
[2702.47] NJ: And then I just let go of the right stick and I look at how it tracks.
[2705.75] NJ: And if it's holding its track, your I-term is actually good.
[2710.55] NJ: And it's not really, it's not directly the culprit, but it is indirectly the culprit.
[2717.35] NJ: So what I would then do, especially if you're on base flight,
[2720.95] NJ: is look at increasing the anti-gravity gain.
[2723.83] NJ: And this was something which Boris added in specifically to try and take care of this problem,
[2729.91] NJ: where you would get this kind of, especially as you were throttling,
[2733.51] NJ: you'd get this kind of, this kind of nodding, whether it was up or down.
[2738.07] NJ: And you do see it in the bottom of power loops as well.
[2741.19] NJ: As you come out of the power loop and you start putting the throttle in,
[2744.63] NJ: you'll notice that the nose comes up by itself without you putting any pitch input in.
[2749.11] NJ: So what I would do is bring I-term back down.
[2751.59] NJ: If you're at 50, or 60, or close to that, I come down to 40.
[2756.31] NJ: And then I would take your I-term, sorry, your anti-gravity gain,
[2759.99] NJ: which you're entering the CLI, and I would move that.
[2762.47] NJ: I think the default in 317 is around three.
[2766.07] NJ: So I would take that to four, retest it, try again.
[2768.79] NJ: Then take it to five, retest it, try again.
[2772.23] NJ: And that specifically works to try and take care of
[2775.99] NJ: the fact that I-term can't respond fast enough to it.
[2780.15] NJ: That will compensate for that and hopefully start to tune that out.
[2783.67] NJ: Another good test for I-term is to make sure it's holding well.
[2786.15] NJ: And I do this with every time I'm tuning is I go straight up,
[2789.91] NJ: nice and high, I flip to an inverted angle, and I just let it drop.
[2794.07] NJ: So it's under no power, and I want to see if that starts to drift
[2797.35] NJ: or whether it just holds its angle as it falls.
[2799.35] NJ: So it's kind of a knife edge, but then on its side a little bit.
[2801.83] NJ: So put it in a really awkward angle and just let it drop.
[2804.79] NJ: And I want to see there's no kind of movement, no sway.
[2808.07] NJ: Once it's doing that, your I-term's good.
[2810.63] NJ: So at that point, I'd start looking at,
[2812.55] NJ: and if you're sure your P-term feels nice and locked,
[2816.47] NJ: then I would then look towards the anti-gravity gain
[2818.87] NJ: and just bringing that up in increments.
[2820.95] NJ: So try all that and hopefully you'll get some success.
[2824.71] Jae: Try all that without wind.
[2826.79] NJ: Yes, wind will make things a little more of a pain.
[2829.11] NJ: So yeah, not in more than sort of five to 10 knots of wind.
[2833.43] NJ: I think anything more than that,
[2834.71] NJ: it's going to make that a tricky one to try out, but yeah.
[2838.71] Jae: Speaking of all your aerodynamic stuff for N.J.,
[2843.35] Jae: you touched briefly on giving us all a massive science session.
[2846.79] Jae: How's that coming along?
[2848.79] NJ: It's such a, the more I've read into it
[2850.87] NJ: and the more I'm sort of going back to studying.
[2854.39] Jae: We won't understand.
[2855.03] NJ: The fluid dynamics, the cross I'm getting.
[2859.03] NJ: But yeah, I mean, look, I've mentioned it in my latest build video
[2863.75] NJ: and I've talked about it before.
[2865.27] NJ: It's a case of thrust versus drag.
[2868.95] NJ: There is no aerodynamic lift involved in the lift coefficient
[2873.51] NJ: of how quadcopters work.
[2875.11] NJ: It's really, lift has nothing, kind of nothing to do with it.
[2879.83] NJ: There's no aerodynamic, nothing aerodynamically advantageous
[2884.95] NJ: about a quadcopter's design.
[2886.39] NJ: Really all you're doing is you're just adding more power
[2890.71] NJ: to take care of the problem.
[2891.83] NJ: There's nothing, there's no pressure differentials
[2894.15] NJ: that will give quads lift.
[2895.83] NJ: If anything, when you're flying towards an induced airflow
[2898.87] NJ: like this, the actual high pressure points
[2901.27] NJ: on the whole top surface of the quad,
[2902.63] NJ: which is trying to keep you down.
[2904.47] NJ: So the PID control is working overtime to fight all the drag
[2908.15] NJ: and yeah, it's just brute forcing its way around the sky.
[2912.39] NJ: Things like the Revo and other frames designs
[2915.91] NJ: that are now starting to flip the arms this way.
[2918.87] NJ: What you're really doing is straightening out the airflow
[2922.39] NJ: for the propellers so that you're creating less wash
[2924.79] NJ: around the arms and that will help with acceleration.
[2929.11] NJ: That will help with, you know, essentially help
[2932.31] NJ: with clean air around cornering.
[2933.91] NJ: And there is advantages to streamlining the airflow
[2940.07] NJ: working with the props.
[2941.19] NJ: Trying to make the body of the quadcopter
[2943.83] NJ: as translucent as possible to the airflow of the propellers.
[2948.87] NJ: There is that.
[2950.31] NJ: Design goes in that direction, I think that's a great idea
[2953.11] NJ: and that can have its advantages.
[2955.43] NJ: Will it ever, even the most, say if we somehow managed
[2959.35] NJ: to make two tiny thin carbon rods to each motor
[2962.79] NJ: that basically completely got out of the way
[2964.71] NJ: of all the airflow, how much difference would that make
[2967.83] NJ: in terms of actual flight time?
[2970.79] NJ: It's still going to be a matter of seconds.
[2972.55] NJ: It's not going to make that much difference.
[2974.31] NJ: But will that quad accelerate a hell of a lot faster?
[2978.87] NJ: Arguably, yes.
[2980.71] NJ: But what people, what you need to realise is, as I said,
[2985.11] NJ: quadcopters are power, thrust versus drag.
[2989.51] NJ: So, you know, that's as good as it gets, I'm afraid.
[2992.39] Jae: So don't forget, that is NJ Tech,
[2993.83] Jae: and today you've learned something.
[2996.95] NJ: There is one other thing, there is actually one other thing,
[3000.07] NJ: which is a really interesting topic.
[3001.75] NJ: So in, and I'll try and keep this boring bit to a minimum,
[3005.67] NJ: there is something called vortex generators.
[3008.07] NJ: Now, what vortex generators do,
[3010.71] NJ: because normally we associate vortices as a bad thing.
[3015.11] NJ: If you've ever seen, you look at a plane, a commercial plane,
[3017.75] NJ: they put these little things on the eggs called winglets,
[3020.71] NJ: and they're to stop vortices basically starting to form,
[3025.99] NJ: as the high pressure air on the underside of the wing
[3028.47] NJ: meets the low pressure air on the top,
[3030.39] NJ: as they escape off the tip of the wing, they swirl.
[3033.19] NJ: That creates a lot of drag and lots of problems
[3035.11] NJ: for the planes following it behind.
[3037.27] NJ: So vortices are normally a bad thing,
[3038.95] NJ: but what vortex generators do is they're tiny little deflectors
[3044.23] NJ: that sit on the front edge of the wing,
[3046.71] NJ: that actually create these tiny little vortices
[3049.43] NJ: that go, and what they're doing,
[3052.39] NJ: you've got something called the boundary layer.
[3054.23] NJ: So this is going to, you've opened the can on fluid dynamics,
[3058.39] NJ: and now you can learn about it.
[3060.31] NJ: But basically with a fluid,
[3062.23] NJ: when a fluid is in motion across a stationary plane,
[3064.87] NJ: and areas of fluids basically,
[3067.67] NJ: you have the fluid on top which is moving,
[3070.55] NJ: you have what's called the boundary layer,
[3071.91] NJ: which is basically saying there's a stationary layer there.
[3074.95] NJ: And that stationary layer is very,
[3076.55] NJ: have you ever tried to blow the dust off of something?
[3078.55] NJ: Have you noticed how not all the dust goes away, right?
[3080.87] NJ: Some of it stays, it's sticking to that boundary layer.
[3083.99] NJ: And on the top side of a wing or a propeller,
[3086.71] NJ: and the propeller is basically a rotating wing,
[3089.99] NJ: you have the boundary layer,
[3091.35] NJ: and what that boundary layer is doing
[3092.87] NJ: is helping that high pressure air
[3094.63] NJ: stick to the surface of the wing as it goes across nice and fast.
[3098.95] NJ: Now the problem is as the angle increases on the wing,
[3102.23] NJ: relative to the induced airflow,
[3105.11] NJ: that stickiness starts to give way.
[3107.67] NJ: And what happens is the airflow no longer sticks down to the wing
[3111.59] NJ: and stays nice and fast,
[3113.11] NJ: and it actually goes, separates more off up the top.
[3115.83] NJ: And this is called the critical angle of attack
[3117.59] NJ: because there's a point where that airflow
[3119.83] NJ: will separate and straighten up
[3121.43] NJ: and not speed down the back end of the wing.
[3123.35] NJ: And you get all this turbulence,
[3125.11] NJ: you get air coming backwards towards the wing,
[3127.27] NJ: in this turbulent, it's really nasty.
[3129.83] NJ: And what vortex generators do is create vortices.
[3133.67] NJ: So you have rotating air
[3136.23] NJ: that picks up some of this boundary layer air
[3138.87] NJ: and mixes it with high speed air and forces it.
[3142.95] NJ: And because it's doing that,
[3143.91] NJ: it's now re-adhering to this top side of the wing.
[3148.31] NJ: So what a vortex generator does is basically create vortices
[3151.51] NJ: that scoop up the still air
[3152.95] NJ: and make it once again kind of remain high flow
[3156.63] NJ: and adhere better onto the top side of the wing,
[3160.47] NJ: which gives us lift.
[3162.31] NJ: Now, there has been application for doing this on propellers.
[3166.79] NJ: It hasn't been, it was actually CAA approved as a design
[3171.43] NJ: where they put vortex generators on propellers
[3173.35] NJ: so that they could run at higher pitch angles
[3176.23] NJ: and still rather than get to a point
[3179.27] NJ: where they're just creating masses amounts of drag
[3181.19] NJ: because they're effectively stalling,
[3183.19] NJ: these vortex generators will cause that air
[3185.83] NJ: to still stick to that top high pressure part of the airfoil
[3189.99] NJ: and allow more efficiency and potentially more thrust.
[3196.55] NJ: So yeah, the CAA approved the design.
[3199.11] NJ: That means that the design was approved
[3201.35] NJ: and therefore it's not gonna harm the aircraft,
[3204.15] NJ: but that doesn't necessarily mean
[3205.75] NJ: that it was a working practical thing
[3209.91] NJ: that is brilliant and works.
[3211.19] NJ: And why don't all propellers have vortex generators on them?
[3214.47] NJ: But I wonder if there isn't something in propeller design
[3216.95] NJ: that could be done along those routes
[3220.23] NJ: to further increase the performance of quadcopters.
[3223.19] NJ: I think that's where most of the design advantages are.
[3225.51] NJ: It's in propeller design.
[3227.59] NJ: That's where most of us find that we've got the real,
[3232.31] NJ: most of us, when we go and fly, we swap a set of props.
[3235.83] NJ: You know you swap props.
[3237.35] NJ: It's usually the biggest change to your quadcopter.
[3240.31] NJ: You put a new set of props on, you go,
[3241.83] NJ: wow, that feels different because of X, Y and Z.
[3244.63] NJ: And that I feel at the minute is where the real benefits lie
[3249.03] NJ: is getting the real aerodynamic geniuses to sit down
[3251.91] NJ: and work on propeller design.
[3254.79] Jae: Get your NJ vortex inducing props this time next year.
[3259.35] NJ: Yeah, well you never know vortex generator props.
[3262.23] Jae: Funny how many pitch quads are propped anyway
[3265.11] Jae: and then come back down a little anyway.
[3266.87] Frank: The other way I've had vortex generators explain to me
[3272.31] Frank: was that the drag is the kind of the bubble,
[3277.83] Frank: you know, when you when you stall the wing
[3280.55] Frank: or a aerofoil plate or whatever.
[3283.59] Frank: Yeah.
[3283.83] Frank: It's the bubble of low pressure behind it
[3286.15] Frank: that's doing the drag.
[3287.35] Frank: And so what the...
[3289.67] NJ: That's correct.
[3290.71] NJ: That's called the critical angle of attack.
[3292.31] NJ: So that is the point at which you're not really generating lift anymore.
[3296.55] NJ: And the drag has become so bad.
[3299.99] NJ: And the weirdest thing if you ever look in slow motion,
[3303.59] NJ: there's loads of this on YouTube.
[3304.79] NJ: If you ever look at how those generate,
[3307.83] NJ: those vortices generate behind the drag starts to form,
[3311.43] NJ: you'll actually see in the smoke tunnel
[3313.03] NJ: as it gets past this critical angle of attack,
[3315.35] NJ: you'll see smoke coming backwards towards the wing.
[3318.63] NJ: You actually get vortices coming back at it
[3321.99] NJ: no matter how fast forward it's going.
[3323.67] NJ: It's just the weirdest thing to look at.
[3326.47] NJ: But yeah, it creates all these incredibly...
[3329.27] NJ: The other drags, the drags then horrific at that point.
[3333.99] NJ: And yeah, it's got to do with that top layer separating
[3336.87] NJ: and no longer adhering to the top side of the wing
[3340.15] NJ: because that low pressure air has to remain low pressure.
[3343.99] NJ: And this has to remain high pressure
[3345.91] NJ: for that difference to generate the lift.
[3349.51] NJ: And yeah, as soon as that starts to separate,
[3351.35] NJ: you've got the vortices in the drag,
[3352.55] NJ: then yeah, that pressure differential is not there.
[3355.83] NJ: And it's not going to fly very well anymore.
[3360.31] Jae: Wow. I think everyone's really busy in the chat room.
[3363.51] Frank: What I was going to try to say,
[3365.59] Frank: to try and explain vortex generators
[3367.51] Frank: was that the vortex generators
[3369.59] Frank: then just disrupt the bubble that's on the other side
[3371.99] Frank: by just mixing all the air together.
[3373.99] NJ: Yeah, exactly.
[3375.67] NJ: But what you have to remember is
[3377.03] NJ: we've got airflow separation this way.
[3380.07] NJ: So if we're looking at the wing this way,
[3381.43] NJ: but if I spin the wing this way,
[3383.35] NJ: that is the way that the vortex generator is working.
[3386.39] NJ: So this is going along scooping up boundary layer
[3389.59] NJ: and mixing it with high pressure fast flowing laminate air.
[3393.83] NJ: So it's taking those two things and mixing them
[3396.15] NJ: and keeping that adhesion
[3397.75] NJ: rather than allowing that separation process.
[3401.27] NJ: And I mean, you can literally buy a kit
[3404.07] NJ: of these kind of printed vortex generators
[3406.55] NJ: and they look like little kind of inverse V's
[3409.51] NJ: that go on the front edge of the wing.
[3412.15] NJ: You can get in general aviation for cessnas and stuff.
[3415.35] NJ: And it can take a cessna
[3417.35] NJ: that has a stall speed of around 55 knots
[3419.99] NJ: and take it down to like 45 or even 43 knots.
[3423.43] NJ: I mean, that's a big deal.
[3424.55] NJ: That suddenly makes the plane a whole lot safer.
[3429.03] NJ: But yeah, it's fascinating stuff.
[3431.11] NJ: And then at the other end of the scale,
[3432.47] NJ: commercial airliners have this problem
[3434.07] NJ: where you can actually get high speed stall,
[3436.95] NJ: which is to do with airflow breaking the sound barrier.
[3441.91] Jae: We've got someone just mentioned a comment in the chat.
[3444.79] Jae: Apparently Tonstar1 says,
[3446.39] Jae: he has a vortex generator after sprouts.
[3453.51] NJ: How much lift does it generate?
[3459.35] Jae: There's that boundary layer.
[3460.63] Jae: I think after sprouts, it sticks to everything.
[3464.07] Jae: No, you know, it's fascinating subject.
[3467.75] Jae: It's so like there's so much
[3469.75] Jae: and obviously you've done your research.
[3471.27] Jae: I've been joking that we're having a test on this
[3473.27] Jae: and you're going to set some questions.
[3475.75] NJ: But it's interesting.
[3478.79] NJ: There's enough content out there on YouTube.
[3482.23] NJ: If it's all new to you,
[3483.35] NJ: that you can start to learn about it.
[3485.11] NJ: And just understanding a little bit of that
[3488.15] NJ: just makes you look at the whole thing a little bit differently.
[3490.23] NJ: So I find it absolutely an absolutely fascinating topic
[3494.15] NJ: because you look at aircraft fly and things like A380s
[3497.67] NJ: and you think that, I still look at it and think,
[3499.59] NJ: how the hell is, how's that in the air?
[3501.51] NJ: It shouldn't be in the air.
[3502.31] NJ: It weighs an absolute ton.
[3505.35] NJ: It just, it shouldn't fly.
[3506.47] NJ: So, you know, the physics side of it,
[3507.91] NJ: I think is pretty interesting.
[3510.39] Jae: You are quite unique that you go down
[3512.07] Jae: to the NJ Tech degree of knowledge
[3514.95] Jae: and actually, you know, it's good to actually,
[3516.39] Jae: because most of us wouldn't actually go through
[3518.23] Jae: and like learn a lot of this,
[3519.27] Jae: but it is relevant to everything we do.
[3521.11] Jae: And I find that, you know,
[3522.79] Jae: some people like cars who work on cars, driving cars.
[3524.95] Jae: Some people just like driving cars.
[3526.31] Jae: And I think some people love working on quads
[3528.15] Jae: and the theory behind it,
[3529.19] Jae: or some people like Tony just like flying quads.
[3532.79] Frank: That's all I do, like doing flying.
[3534.47] Frank: I hate mending them and I don't...
[3537.03] Jae: No, but, you know, there's so much actually knowledge.
[3540.55] Jae: There's so much that makes these things work.
[3542.87] NJ: Do you know what it is?
[3543.67] NJ: I think the one thing you should take away from this
[3546.39] NJ: is you should just have so much respect
[3549.75] NJ: for the guys that can, like Boris B
[3552.47] NJ: and like our Dominic Clifton's
[3553.99] NJ: and the guys that do the programming for this,
[3556.39] NJ: because you really don't have any concept
[3561.99] NJ: of just how much work that flight controller is doing.
[3565.91] NJ: You know, you're just giving it an idea
[3567.43] NJ: of what you want it to do.
[3568.87] NJ: And it's saying, well, I see what you're trying to do.
[3570.63] NJ: And then it does some seriously complicated work
[3574.39] NJ: to give you an output that feels organic,
[3576.79] NJ: that feels like you're controlling something very directly.
[3581.27] NJ: It's absolutely incredible.
[3582.63] NJ: And especially with propellers,
[3584.23] NJ: you see the kind of...
[3585.11] NJ: There's all kinds of things like center of thrust,
[3587.75] NJ: there's torque, induced airflow.
[3591.59] NJ: It just goes on and on and on.
[3592.95] NJ: And you realize that these flight controllers
[3594.95] NJ: are working out a way to negate all of these problems.
[3597.51] NJ: And as I said, give you a feeling of direct connection
[3600.63] NJ: when you're on the sticks.
[3601.67] NJ: It's nothing short of magical, you know,
[3603.67] NJ: what those guys are doing.
[3604.71] NJ: So, yeah, big respect to Boris and the team
[3609.51] NJ: and all of those guys that keep making these things fly
[3611.83] NJ: so damn good.
[3612.95] Jae: And respect for you to sharing some of the little bit more
[3615.27] Jae: that we wouldn't have actually...
[3616.47] Jae: We would have just gone on and spent our props and flown,
[3618.79] Jae: not actually understanding the vortex generators
[3621.75] Jae: and all sorts.
[3623.75] NJ: Well, yeah, it's a tricky thing to try and condense
[3627.19] NJ: into things that don't make you go cross-eyed.
[3629.43] NJ: And believe me, I spend most of my time cross-eyed reading it.
[3631.67] NJ: But yeah, if it's an interesting topic,
[3634.95] NJ: it's definitely one worth having a look into.
[3638.31] Jae: Sorry, not F6, it's Quinton.
[3641.99] Jae: It's Cobra Motors for the win.
[3645.27] Jae: Anyway, you know what, I think there's a lot of us here
[3648.79] Jae: that are probably just thinking,
[3650.07] Jae: when am I going to be able to get enough stuff
[3651.75] Jae: of my stuff packed and fixed ready to go fly tomorrow?
[3658.71] Jae: Maybe we should call it a show.
[3659.83] Jae: But maybe something, Quinton or Andrew,
[3662.07] Jae: any last thoughts for Mini Air Show, any last requests?
[3666.15] Jae: Make sure people print out the tickets,
[3667.59] Jae: make sure you know where you're going,
[3669.19] Jae: make sure you bring water.
[3671.11] Frank: Yeah, bring water, bring warm clothes if you're camping,
[3675.35] Frank: bring dry clothes if you're not,
[3677.59] Frank: bring your tickets, bring your quads, don't forget things.
[3682.95] Jae: Has the sheep been moved from where they've been residing?
[3686.63] Jae: Because I know there's been a lot of sheep
[3687.83] Jae: as they move around.
[3689.83] Frank: Cool.
[3690.39] Frank: The sheep have been hopping around
[3693.51] Frank: and I believe they'll be moved out of the way
[3696.71] Frank: if not in time, by the time we get there tomorrow,
[3699.27] Frank: by the time everyone else gets there or something.
[3701.83] Jae: There may have to be some sheep herding with their quads.
[3705.19] Jae: But don't do that, actually.
[3709.83] Jae: Yeah, it's going to be a fun weekend, isn't it?
[3711.27] NJ: No, how to loop the sheep, how to loop the sheep composition.
[3715.83] Jae: Yeah, how many sheep can you herd into that field over there?
[3718.31] Jae: With the morning temperature.
[3719.27] Jae: With the individual line of sight.
[3720.63] NJ: Yeah, I think it can be done with a watch.
[3722.55] NJ: I don't even know.
[3723.91] NJ: They've probably seen bigger wasps down there
[3726.31] NJ: than some of those whoops.
[3727.51] Jae: The trouble is though, I think because they're used to that noise,
[3730.87] Jae: they don't react as much as other sheep in other fields
[3733.91] Jae: because they haven't actually got used to that noise.
[3735.51] NJ: They're pretty immune to it now, I think.
[3737.75] NJ: I'm quite surprised.
[3738.71] NJ: They don't really care, do they?
[3739.75] Jae: I mean, I've been flying near sheep at least 100 meters away, at least,
[3743.91] Jae: and they all run across to a field.
[3746.63] Jae: And I just see these little white dots on the video
[3748.55] Jae: all running to the other side of a field
[3750.07] Jae: because this slight buzz got them all spooked.
[3753.83] Jae: But it is going to be a fun weekend.
[3755.83] Jae: We'll have a catch-up.
[3756.63] Jae: And I don't know if the competition will take place,
[3759.03] Jae: but please take some video because we would like to share it.
[3761.11] Jae: And I think last week is winning competitions.
[3763.43] Jae: Someone stuck a bombed, sticker bombed everyone else.
[3767.51] Jae: So sticker bombed for the win.
[3769.59] Jae: Mikey, there we go.
[3770.39] Jae: A prize that hasn't even been done yet.
[3773.35] Jae: But, Andrew, I hope you can make it.
[3775.03] Jae: Andrew, I will be seeing you there.
[3776.63] Jae: Tony, I'll be seeing you there.
[3777.91] Jae: Clinton, I'll be seeing you there.
[3779.03] Jae: And you will be seeing me and, I think,
[3780.47] Jae: Ektras and all the others that are coming down from Scotland
[3782.47] Jae: all over the place to Mini Air Show Number 3
[3786.71] Jae: for International Drone Day.
[3787.99] Jae: It's going to be awesome.
[3789.91] Clint: Yeah.
[3790.71] Jae: I'm looking forward to it.
[3791.91] Jae: Once I get packed and ready.
[3793.67] Clint: Yeah.
[3794.55] Clint: And you've got your, did you get your frame fixed?
[3797.67] Jae: I've got to do that now.
[3799.43] Jae: It is just, it's a lift and shift.
[3801.67] Jae: So I basically, I just replaced the bottom plate.
[3805.19] Jae: No soldering, nothing.
[3806.79] Clint: You broke your medium.
[3807.99] Clint: It's doing one piece.
[3810.39] Jae: What's that? Sorry, Tony?
[3812.47] Frank: You've snapped your medium, have you?
[3815.59] Jae: It's the V1 frame that hadn't snapped.
[3818.55] Jae: Chances would have it, this week,
[3820.39] Jae: just getting ready for the show.
[3821.43] Jae: I thought, great, I'll go down on flight.
[3822.95] Jae: And then I looked at the arm and it's like,
[3824.15] Jae: oh, there's a crack.
[3825.67] Jae: And it's like, oh.
[3826.63] Jae: And then I took a picture.
[3827.83] Jae: It's not easy to see on the other side,
[3829.03] Jae: but it's gone through both sides.
[3830.63] Jae: I did a rigidity test.
[3833.19] Jae: It seems pretty rigid.
[3834.71] Jae: But the last thing I want to do
[3835.75] Jae: is in between one of the heats on Saturday
[3837.19] Jae: is to have to swap out my mainframe there.
[3838.55] Jae: So they're warranted.
[3840.95] Jae: I'll just...
[3842.63] Frank: Best do it now, then, and not tomorrow or Saturday.
[3846.87] Jae: Yeah, yeah.
[3848.63] Jae: So, yeah.
[3850.23] Jae: Other than that, it's going to be fun, guys.
[3851.83] Jae: Yeah, I can't wait.
[3853.35] Jae: It is going to be a fun one.
[3855.75] Jae: You want to start.
[3856.47] Frank: You're going to be able to sleep.
[3859.19] Frank: Are you going to be able to sleep, Jay?
[3860.95] Frank: You're so excited.
[3862.47] Jae: It's like Christmas.
[3863.35] Jae: No, I won't.
[3865.35] Frank: I will definitely be able to sleep.
[3867.83] Frank: I've been up since five-something this morning.
[3870.63] Clint: It was an early start, that's for sure.
[3873.27] Jae: Clinton's just got his props and spinning by hand all night long.
[3877.35] Clint: I've just noticed I've got a load of clay in one of my motors,
[3879.51] Clint: and I'm upset about it.
[3881.51] Jae: Oh, they're F60s, aren't they?
[3884.31] Clint: Yeah, yeah.
[3886.55] Jae: Sorry.
[3887.35] Clint: I'm not happy.
[3890.22] Jae: Anyway, thanks, everyone, for tuning in.
[3891.82] Jae: We'll see you after the show if we're still alive,
[3894.46] Jae: if we're still flying.
[3897.98] Jae: I'm sure we will be.
[3899.1] Jae: Thanks, everyone, for tuning in.
[3900.46] Jae: As always, it's good to have you here.
[3902.14] Jae: The regulars, the new people, and you guys helping host this show.
[3906.78] Jae: So thanks, all.
[3908.38] Jae: Thanks.
[3908.78] Jae: See you later.
[3910.22] Jae: Yeah, see you at the show, if not afterwards.
[3914.46] Frank: And, Jay, you better come down, man.
[3917.18] Frank: I want to see you fly.
[3918.62] Frank: I want to do my best.
[3920.86] Jae: Do your best.
[3921.42] Jae: Do your best.
[3922.06] Jae: I'll do my best.
[3923.82] Jae: All right.
[3926.54] Jae: Thanks, everyone.
[3927.82] Jae: Till next week.
[3929.34] UNKNOWN: Bye-bye.
