[44.0] Jae: I mean you have been on a little a few times before, haven't you? And you have quite a few
[48.08] Clint: times now. It must be, it must be a mountain now, must be at least what, three or four times? So
[53.2] Jae: getting used to it. Yeah, well we don't like to just throw you in the deep end usually, but this
[58.24] Jae: week we've got some exciting news of FAA restrictions against Casey Neister and some
[63.6] Jae: other things of DJI chucking out their massive factory, but we'll get to that in a moment.
[68.64] Jae: But firstly Clinton, we've never really heard from you much to regards to what you've been
[73.84] Jae: doing, where you came from, what you do, and maybe give you an introduction. Tell us all
[79.2] Jae: about your life story because we've been reading your emails so we already know all about you.
[83.12] Clint: My life story, well, started with my mom and dad. They both got a little overexcited one night,
[90.08] Clint: and I'm guessing you don't want to go that far back.
[97.84] Clint: So I started flying just over a year ago, and yeah, just loving it really. Just being part of
[103.76] Clint: community, chatting to everybody, talking to everybody, everybody's amazing. Love Let's Drone
[109.2] Clint: out since it started. Lots of tips and useful stuff, and here I am. Feel quite proud to be here.
[115.04] Jae: See, I mean we started coming up two years ago now actually. I didn't think it actually
[119.76] Jae: last that long, but it has been. Have you been flying two years, Clinton?
[127.36] Clint: No, not been flying two years, about a year, a year and a bit I think. So I started off
[133.28] Clint: the Mini Air Show last year. Wow. 2016, yeah, so just over a year.
[139.44] Jae: Actually, and to be honest, I've seen some of your videos, and if you want to see his videos,

[150.4] Jae: actually quite a good pilot, but probably because you're not afraid to splash things into water,
[154.88] Jae: crash them into trees, smash them on the ground upside down. I mean, all sorts of things you put
[159.44] Clint: your little pork wads through. Well, if you're not going to break it properly, then well, you know,
[164.64] Jae: you're not flying properly, right? Well, there is that old adage, isn't there? If you're not crashing,
[167.84] Jae: you're not flying hard enough. Well, I think you're not flying hard enough, that's for sure.
[171.84] Jae: So what have you been flying lately? I think you did venture into a chameleon world,
[176.88] Clint: but you've gone back to your old faithfuls. Yeah, so where am I at the moment? I've got my
[181.6] Clint: Fossil, hevest GX210. I've got my chameleon, which I've had enough of already. There's nothing
[187.52] Clint: wrong with it. It's a good frame. It just doesn't fit my purpose. And then, yeah, my love moves out.
[199.95] Clint: And bless him, Mitch, who's in the chat, I think, somewhere, he gave me, which is laying about
[207.55] Clint: somewhere, he gave me a brand new QX95 yesterday. So I'm back into the micro world as well.
[213.63] Jae: So is that something planned for this weekend, by any chance? Yeah, originally it was, but
[223.07] Clint: so is it Comic-Con? So we're doing some flying at Comic-Con tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday.
[229.87] Clint: But yeah, I've been flying the micro around the house for the past two or three days.
[234.19] Clint: And yeah, I forgot how much I loved it. It's that easy, just being able to pick it up and fly it
[240.11] Jae: without thinking. Yeah, you know, I mean, I always found over the winter months, my micros got all
[246.03] Jae: the action. But in the summer months, it's light till 10 o'clock, so I can fly elsewhere. But I do
[251.15] Jae: miss the little micros. And I know NJ, who's not here this week, is a massive fan of the 130 size.
[256.99] Jae: But the QX95 are amazing flyers, actually. Yeah, I think when I first started with the micros about
[264.83] Clint: six months ago, I don't think they were really sort of pulling their weight as such. They were
[268.91] Clint: a bit sort of sluggish and wobbly. But with the new beta flight, yeah, they've come a long way.
[273.79] Clint: It was really, really good. I'm really enjoying it. Have you got a micro flight, Tony?
[278.83] Tony: I've just bought Dan Upton quad. You know, he designs his own frames and stuff. I've just
[286.27] Tony: got a nice X frame off him. I'll be picking it up tomorrow. I think Jack's bringing it up because
[291.39] Tony: I'm off to Comic Con 2, doing a bit of micro flying up there for tomorrow and maybe Saturday.
[301.15] Jae: I'm one recommendation. I don't know if you're supposed to do it, but there is a big car park
[304.51] Jae: that is uber cool, but it does break small micros. And I actually destroyed two in the car park nearby
[309.55] Jae: there. I didn't advocate that. Don't do that. According to me, just do it if you're on your own
[314.51] Jae: back. But that's the beauty of micro flyers. You could probably get away with a lot more flying.
[318.75] Jae: He's still covered by the same rules, but hey, yeah. Well, that sounds really exciting. So have
[327.07] Jae: you flown any planes or anything before Clinton? Because I know a lot of people are getting into
[330.27] Clint: planes these days. See, the problem I had when I first started, I didn't know about FPV. And the
[335.39] Clint: first, well, I was going to say quad, but the first thing I built was an octocopter with 11 and a
[342.35] Clint: half inch blades. So I threw myself in the deep end, that was for sure. So yeah, and I couldn't
[350.03] Clint: really fly very well. Didn't really know what I was doing. And yeah, crashed it, destroyed it,
[354.75] Jae: and then found out about FPV. And here I am. I'm actually Hidden Valley. I think that's where I
[362.93] Jae: first met you on your birthday. And it's actually been great to fly with you since. I appreciate it.
[368.29] Clint: You know, I'm enjoying so many decent people and so many people in this community that just want
[374.29] Clint: to help and friendly. Gav or Gary, first person to ever give me fly in acro mode. So yeah, I've got
[382.69] Clint: some really successful Tony and Ed as well. First people I've met before I'd even built a quad.
[388.61] Clint: And they were fantastic. I remember Ed offering me a cup of tea. I was like, wow. You know,
[394.21] Clint: literally that moment was just, I love this community. It was great. I remember coming
[398.53] Clint: home with a big smile on my face and talking to Junior like, wow, they're brilliant.
[402.61] Jae: It looks like you've still got that same smile on your face today. Has it ever wiped off?
[408.93] Clint: No, I don't know what it is about Ed, but he has this, there's something about him that just
[413.65] Clint: even thinking about it makes you happy. I remember taking, taking one of my mates up to Hidden Valley
[418.77] Clint: and he hadn't even got his goggles yet. And it was just like, no, I feel I've got a spare pair
[422.21] Clint: of goggles in the car. And he just come out and gave them to you. What? You know, it's amazing.
[427.81] Jae: Just incredible. Actually, Tony, what have you been flying these days? Because I know you've been
[433.47] Jae: going through, I don't know how many different flight controllers like the dodo is even flying
[438.43] Tony: again, isn't it? Even though it's a flightless bird that was dead. Well, if I show you what it's
[444.43] Jae: like two seconds, it's just here. Oh, this is exciting. Here we go. That was, that was literally
[452.11] Tony: two seconds. I've been flying race bikes for ages and I just went back to my two turn with me dodo
[461.55] Tony: and it felt so fast and just, I don't know, it felt really good. But as you can see,
[467.95] Tony: got motors dangling around and stuff. I blew an ESC a little bit when I crashed. I don't know how.
[477.31] Tony: And then I put it all back together, rewired it and it was fine. I programmed the ESCs and
[484.03] Tony: everything and it was really good. And then plugged it in to check all the FPV camera and
[489.95] Tony: burnt another ESC just by plugging it in. Did you fly it from the motor? Is the motor naked or?
[501.15] Tony: I'm not sure it's a new motor. So it's like the new, it's all three of them are like two years old
[508.03] Tony: and still going strong, but this one, this one's a brand new one. It could be. I've yet to think
[514.99] Tony: about, I've just bought some SpeedX ESCs for nothing. They're like six quid each.
[523.07] Tony: I love the SpeedX. They're really small. So they should fit in the house of the 210
[530.11] Tony: quite nicely. Is that a 20 amp version? Yeah, 20 with a burst of 30 for 10 seconds,
[535.87] Jae: which is all you really need, I think. You know, the funny thing is like in the last couple of
[539.95] Jae: weeks, I've seen so many people posting, say, has anyone got any little bit 20 amp,
[544.27] Jae: like, and V1s and stuff. I reckon if you've got a hoard of them somewhere,
[547.71] Jae: they're going to be worth more than gold in about a few months.
[553.07] Jae: Just like you, Tony, you have always been reluctant to move on from the little bees.
[557.15] Tony: They are the favorites. Literally. I'm flying F40 pros now.
[562.75] Clint: And they're still running on the little bees, no problems.
[565.15] Tony: What? No, F40 ESCs, sorry.
[570.03] Jae: I was going to say, I thought you were running F40 motors on a little bee, Tony.
[574.75] Clint: I think it's like I've got the F60 pros of my community. I can't imagine what 20
[581.55] Clint: FCSCs would say to them. They'd come down a bit warm.
[586.27] Tony: We've done a test, though. We ran, I've probably said this before, we ran 5S on a mounted,
[595.31] Tony: on a mount with a 2300 KZ EMAX motor. We run it for one minute on a 20 amp little bee.
[603.79] Tony: And was just doing that.
[607.79] Tony: And left it 5S one minute and the little bee was fine.
[613.39] Clint: It's good when you get decent ESCs.
[617.07] Jae: When are you saying that they were rated to like 30 amp anyway as burst or even 35 on your 20 amp?
[624.83] Tony: The little bees are underrated. I think you can.
[627.55] Tony: They're like 37, I think. And the burst, we had it full whack for one minute on a 5S.
[635.55] Tony: I mean, I fly 5S, any of my 5S videos, my 5S punch outs, they're just on the little bees still.
[645.63] Tony: Wow. Still something.
[647.31] Jae: I'd like to, I mean, so it's comparable size because I haven't seen the SpeedX 20 amp.
[651.07] Jae: I'm running 30 amp on mine because I just wanted that safety net.
[653.55] Jae: But I mean, are they similar size to the little bees?
[657.55] Tony: They're smaller. They're actually smaller.
[662.75] Tony: I'm just seeing if they're in here. I don't know where I'll put them.
[666.67] Tony: See, I've got another, I've got a 1A here I need to sort out as well.
[673.87] Tony: This has got an F4 flight control in it, but I can't get it into DFU mode to

[789.5] Jae: I have had the misfortune and the fortune of testing warranty claims for our 10 quads.
[795.9] Jae: And I must say, I'm impressed after dismantling my chameleon after breaking. I mean,
[802.06] Jae: I think it's been fractured for quite some time. Before Mini Airshow, I actually bought a new base
[805.82] Jae: plate to put on my chameleon, which I love. But I did eventually smash it into a few two
[811.74] Jae: minute trees, hit the ground and tumble and cartwheel until the point that one of the arms
[815.1] Jae: was flopping off and would actually wave to me when I took off. So I took apart my quad thinking
[821.1] Jae: I could just take a picture of the base plate. But no, you actually have to take a picture of
[824.14] Jae: the whole complete quad. However, I sent an email as later, they sent me a code, I just paid
[831.82] Jae: postage, which worked out to £3.99. And I'm getting a new base plate and new rear antenna
[837.34] Clint: mount. So kudos to Armatan for doing that. Any ideas on the actual time it takes, the whole
[845.58] Jae: process from start to finish to get the pass? Well, I guess it's international post. So there
[850.86] Jae: is a tracking number, I don't actually bother tracking it. It's probably going to be a week
[853.42] Jae: or maybe two weeks. I know some of the things get shipped from China and they can be slightly
[857.66] Jae: delayed. But you know, I guess in the past, I've always bought frames and had to buy another frame
[863.42] Jae: to actually repair the existing frame. And it's one of those things that I never thought I'd truly
[867.26] Jae: see a bumper to bumper warranty on a quad. And now I've had the chance to test it out. I'm quite
[874.06] Jae: impressed. But everyone's impressed with their Armatan quads, are they Clinton? Oh, yeah, I love
[881.42] Tony: mine. No, you don't. You hate it. Come on. You've already posted it. Why do you not like it? And
[888.3] Clint: what is that big quad behind you? Oh, this thing. Right. So when I first started, I built a
[896.46] Clint: hexacopter. And then what I did is sorry, an octocopter. And now it's at the moment,
[902.78] Clint: and you get something. Is that a gate for micros?
[909.34] Clint: So this was a H frame. And yeah, I used to have big motors and 11 inch props on it.
[914.38] Clint: And yeah, I kind of it lasted all of two or three days, maybe.
[919.18] Clint: And what happened was I was flying it in angle mode. And then I found horizon mode.
[927.58] Clint: And then I found that I could do backflips and left and right flips. And yeah, I only had one
[934.7] Clint: battery. So I took it out, did a backflip. I got all excited, come home, charge my battery up,
[939.74] Clint: went out to do another backflip. And I forgot to turn the accelerator off while it was upside down.
[946.38] Clint: So it's, yeah, plummeted into the ground upside down with the, the Frotlet Max.
[952.46] Clint: So it's had the lawn then. Sorry?
[955.82] Clint: Mowed the lawn then. Mowed the lawn. I think it left a crater in it.
[962.94] Clint: Yeah, so I was very, very inexperienced. I had no idea what I was doing. I didn't even know about
[967.98] Clint: FPV at this point. So yeah, yeah, but it was, it was a good starting point, kind of.
[976.78] Jae: Well, I suppose everyone has to learn somewhere. And I mean, I'm thinking about dismantling my
[981.98] Jae: larger QAV500 or the 540. Just because let's face it, I guess the bigger ones, we don't fly as much
[990.14] Jae: anymore. And FPV, they've come a long way for the redundant for the other aerial, you know,
[996.54] Jae: photography platforms that exist these days that are out there.
[1002.06] Tony: Let's turn them into the 100 mil, you know, the big quads that everyone's doing at the moment,
[1007.58] Tony: like Zoe FPV and, you know, the 150 mil. You could turn that one in. I'll get my hexacopter
[1016.06] Tony: out of the loft and I'll take the gimbal off and then put a race flight in it and I'll have a hex
[1021.66] Tony: racer. You can have the height, right? Joe, you can have your big QAV. Let's have a big race with
[1029.74] Jae: massive gates. Yeah, minimum size prop of nine inches or something. That's a quad you're not
[1037.34] Clint: going to want to get in front of, Tony. No, I'll definitely have to try ducking. Yeah.
[1046.22] Jae: Actually, you know what? That is not a bad idea. I might actually,
[1049.42] Jae: uh, yeah, I might actually see what we can do. The trouble is the QAV is a very heavy beast.
[1053.98] Jae: I mean, it's probably like a couple of kilos as it is there abouts. The problem is if you start
[1058.3] Clint: going up to that scale, everything will start getting very expensive. So motors, instead of being
[1062.7] Clint: 10, 15 pounds, are going to start costing 20. Hold on. I don't know. Tony's already got his motors
[1067.1] Jae: on there. I've already got motors on my, in fact, they're T-motor pancakes. So
[1071.74] Jae: um, you'll just have to buy motors. I'm afraid. Another one I've got actually, which, uh,
[1079.42] Clint: Carlito Carlos gave me last year existing, which, uh, I keep, I keep meaning to do something. He got
[1086.78] Clint: it for my birthday last year. And, uh, what I was going to do is buy some, uh, some of the race
[1092.38] Clint: style motors and the race star ESCs and just sort of see what it does really keep it maybe five.
[1101.82] Jae: The 2306 or something. I mean, they're so cheap. You'd have two spare as well. If you bought two
[1106.38] Tony: sets, that's 60 pounds. Looks like I might not be making it. I think Andrew is working on space
[1112.46] Tony: to buy it. So I might not be taking it apart after all. Well, he might want the upgraded race
[1118.38] Jae: flight, uh, version of the hexacopter. You never know. He might do. I think it'd be great. I think
[1126.22] Clint: on that note, though, does, um, those race flights support the hexacopter and octocopters?
[1131.34] Tony: Pass. Don't know. Yeah. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I've been watching stuff on the spark and I
[1140.94] Jae: really like it. The DJI spark of any guy. Okay. Okay. Come on. You do. Is Jack listening? Because

[1153.66] Jae: Um, okay. So this week they did announce yet another, um, another tiny little, uh,
[1162.46] Jae: quad. It's half the price of a Phantom, half the price of a Mavic pretty much. Um,
[1166.78] Jae: and what do you know about it, Tony? Come on. Are you going to sell it? Because you own DJI
[1170.46] Tony: products. I do. Um, I think it's really cool. Um, I'm, I'm going to buy it without the
[1175.98] Tony: controller and everything. I just want the hand gestures, the fly up, take a photo of yourself,
[1183.02] Tony: do that, takes a picture of your, comes back, you hold your hand out and it lands in your end.
[1187.66] Tony: Do you think it's that it would take a picture? I mean,
[1192.38] Tony: that might. Apparently if you wave like that, it comes back and lands on your hand and stuff.
[1198.62] Tony: It looks, it looks really good. Uh, it weighs 300 grams. It's the same size of,
[1204.38] Tony: it's just a bit bigger than a foam. Like I say, it's sort of the size of a can of Coke.
[1209.74] Jae: I'll give one thing for the DJI. They're a little marketing ad, uh, video where they just have
[1214.62] Jae: people looking at it and then it's flying through all these great places with a couple of beats in
[1218.06] Jae: the background. That does actually sell that little thing, but it is only a two-axis gimbal,
[1221.9] Tony: isn't it? It is, but it does look good. And I think they've got some kind of, um, electric
[1227.9] Tony: electronic stabilization on it as well. But imagine just being on holiday and you,
[1232.7] Tony: you don't want to take your racing drone. You don't want to take your massive Phantom,
[1235.82] Tony: but you can take this kind of Coke size drone out of your pocket. You don't need a phone. You
[1242.06] Tony: don't need a controller. You can just hold it in the air. If you turn it on and hold it to your
[1246.7] Tony: face, it finds your face and then turns on and then starts hovering. You hold your hand gesture
[1252.7] Tony: out, send it away. You've got a beautiful backdrop. You do that. It takes a photo and
[1257.26] Tony: comes down and lands. It finds your face and starts hovering. That sounds like it is a bit scary,
[1264.3] Tony: but it finds your face and chases you down the speed. You're running away screaming.
[1269.1] Tony: Yeah, it has got, um, it's got follow me and all that lot on it, uh, active tracking. It can do
[1275.74] Tony: bits where it does droning, where it will fly backwards and pan away and do a 15 second video.
[1281.18] Tony: It records in 1080p at 30 frames a second. It's pretty good for the price. And I think it's just
[1288.62] Tony: a great little gadget to have. Um, you know, if you, if you're on holiday and you don't want to
[1293.42] Tony: take your racing drones and your fountains and stuff, I'll say one thing. If anyone who's had
[1299.1] Jae: that, uh, logical progression from bigger aircraft and flight controllers over the years to get to
[1304.54] Jae: something that's a smaller, let's say a selfie drone, um, at least they're probably going to
[1309.26] Jae: properly other Michael, these other startups like Lily that fall flat on their face or on their top,
[1314.86] Jae: um, to be a worthy contender in that market that nobody's really entered yet. So
[1321.9] Tony: I can see exactly why they want to do it. It look, it does look really good. I've seen like,
[1327.74] Tony: I've watched, um, other YouTubers who've got given it, I've watched them use it and then hold out
[1333.66] Tony: their hand and it sees your hand because it's got forward facing sensors, downward facing sensors,
[1340.3] Tony: and it sent your hands there and then comes and just lands straight in your hand. I think that's,
[1344.38] Tony: I just think it's a cool little product for, I think it's 520 quid.
[1349.34] Clint: Yeah. 519 pounds. Yeah. Sounds pretty, sounds pretty cool and pretty nifty and stuff, but
[1354.94] Clint: it'd be interesting. It does sound like it could be a bit disastrous if it starts making mistakes.
[1361.02] Tony: I've never seen a DJI drone make a mistake. It's always been user error. It might help.
[1370.46] Jae: Yeah. Okay. Most of the time it is user error. I'd, I'd grant you that. Um,
[1374.7] Jae: and I think it's less of an issue nowadays when, um, the people aren't installing their flight
[1380.14] Jae: controller in something and building it, you know, putting everything right next to the flight
[1383.18] Jae: controller. There's, there's a lot less problems to come up, but be interested to see, in fact,
[1388.94] Jae: anyone from DJI, if you're listening right now, we would love to try one out and someone over
[1392.54] Tony: and we'll put it through its paces. Yes, please. It's got both the GPS, um, modules in it, you know,
[1398.86] Tony: the Russian one and the American one. So yeah, GLONOS, uh, yeah, the G loss. So, you know, it can
[1407.5] Tony: lock onto 20, 30, well, 20, what's it? 25 at the most. Um, I don't know what it'd be like in the
[1415.42] Tony: wind or not, but you imagine it on a lovely night like tonight. I mean, I was walking up the road
[1421.02] Tony: the other day and it was a beautiful sunset and I just, it was all above the trees and I thought,

[2032.86] Clint: with the minimum SDs on it. And it's got a USB on the side and everything was coded except the USB.
[2039.58] Clint: So I think just the spot of all the USB port and just stopped it from powering on. So it was just,
[2044.78] Clint: it was just the pdb. And as soon as that water was gone, it was back on working. No problems.
[2050.7] Clint: So that conformal coating. Yeah. It has my, it has my seal of approval. That stuff is amazing.
