[0.0] Jae: We have actually John starting up Rocket League at the moment to see if he can do a physical
[11.36] Jae: challenge and coming up we'll also have Clinton.
[14.08] Jae: I don't know if this week he'll actually be doing something Clinton but in the coming
[16.48] Jae: weeks we're going to be having them.
[17.48] Jae: But if you haven't even done introductions, look at that mug.
[20.48] Jae: Hello John.
[21.48] Jae: Hello.
[22.48] Jae: He's too busy on Rocket League, he'll have this transfixed pose on the screen as though
[30.69] Jae: he's smiling and he's crazily square or something but who knows.
[36.37] John: Much more chill.
[37.37] John: You are actually.
[38.37] John: Over the years.
[39.37] Jae: You've been tinkering away in your shed building stuff so we'll get at that in a bit.
[45.33] Jae: The host this week with me is Clinton.
[48.13] Jae: Hello world.
[49.13] Jae: Hello world.
[50.13] Jae: Well I can't see you, you've gone into pitch black.
[54.93] Jae: You're me?
[55.93] Jae: There you are.
[56.93] Jae: Still here.
[57.93] Clint: Still here.
[59.65] Jae: You must have muted your video because you're just coming up with your logo I think.
[66.42] Jae: Maybe not.
[67.42] Jae: I don't know.
[68.42] Jae: It might be all confused.
[69.42] Jae: Anyway dude, how are you doing Clinton?
[70.42] Jae: Do you have a second week?
[71.42] Jae: Sorry?
[72.42] Clint: Can you hear me okay because it's pretty rubbish.
[75.42] Clint: Let me then go and repeat what you said Jay so I didn't catch that.
[80.86] Jae: How are you doing this week Clinton?
[82.66] Jae: What have you been up to?
[83.66] Clint: I'm good Ashley.
[84.66] Clint: I've got to fly today for the first time in a few weeks or my five inch anyway.
[89.74] Clint: So that was good fun.
[91.18] Clint: We went to the beach with the kids and yeah did some flying on the beach.
[96.74] Jae: So last week with the informal coated all sorts of micro and stuff.
[101.02] Jae: Is your quad that you took to the beach coated in the same stuff?
[104.62] Clint: Of course and I even, I was pre-wearing swimming trunks ready to go just in case.
[111.38] Clint: Still worth it for it.
[115.26] Clint: Sorry man.
[116.26] Clint: But yeah I was ready to dive in just in case.
[120.78] Jae: Nah well I would like to see that because this week I was seeing some of those videos
[125.5] Jae: on the urban drones I think it is with the splash drone and even the gimbal, three axis
[131.18] Jae: gimbal in the skimming across the water.
[132.78] Jae: It's quite impressive.
[133.78] Jae: It's not messing around the same way as yours would but it's still impressive that we can
[140.03] Jae: do that these days.
[141.03] Clint: Yeah I think it's, like I said last week I think everybody should be, I think if you
[147.47] Clint: are flying around water you should definitely consider conformal coating, that's for sure.
[152.51] Clint: What is it?
[153.51] Clint: Take it from an expert in drowning quads.
[155.91] John: What are you using Clint?
[156.91] Clint: So it's conformal coating, it's like a silicone, it comes in like a nail polish bottle with
[163.79] Clint: a nail polish brush and it's a silicone polish.
[167.31] Clint: So it's not nail polish, it's not nail polish, it's like a silicone and you paint it on all
[175.03] Clint: your electronics and it makes them waterproof.
[179.15] John: I guess in theory, silicone comes in liquid form, you mix it up and you can make molds
[185.07] John: and shit out of it.
[186.11] John: In theory you could just dunk your entire electronics stack, all the pieces that need
[190.19] John: to be waterproofed into a silicone thing.
[192.47] John: But then you've got the whole situation of, sorry I've set a goal in there, you've got
[197.51] John: the whole situation of overheating, there's no proper airflow of electronics surely.
[205.99] Clint: I mean we cover everything in heat shrink anyway, so a lot of people heat shrink their
[211.07] Clint: ESCs and they take them down to the arms and by the time you've done that you can put quite
[215.75] Clint: a decent amount of information around the ESCs anyway.
[219.75] Clint: They're the hottest part or going to be the hottest part of the electronics.
[225.39] Clint: But yeah with the conformal coating, obviously it's sealing all the electronics anyway so
[230.19] Clint: you technically don't have to put the, you technically don't have to put heat shrink
[235.31] Clint: on them so I don't know what bothers, just no heat shrink on them.
[238.99] Jae: You see the thing is you could just get your sealing silicone and coat like you say, but
[246.67] Jae: you also sometimes want to remove it to re-solder.
[251.07] Clint: Yeah I mean you can solder straight through it no problem, I have tried on a few occasions.
[258.35] Clint: The other thing is as well with heat shrink, if you've got heat shrink around it then obviously
[263.03] Clint: the water gets stagnant inside and it just ends up stuck so it's technically better not
[269.31] Clint: to have heat shrink around it anyway from what I've read and what I've found.
[274.87] Jae: Wow well this comes from someone who has drowned a lot of quads.
[278.19] Jae: I have indeed drowned quite a few quads now.
[281.91] Jae: Yeah I've only lost one and unfortunately it's lost into a weir so I could never get
[287.07] Jae: it back so I've never had to fish it out of water thankfully.
[291.51] John: So if it's lost to a weir it's still in the weir, it's just not going around there, it's
[296.23] John: been going there for how long now?
[297.75] Jae: It's probably going to get, like the frame will be a smaller frame like a 130 size.
[302.27] John: It'll be worn away yeah.
[307.01] Jae: Yeah well I mean the water after that is quite shallow so I do occasionally look, because
[311.09] Jae: I don't remember my bike there but nothing.
[314.29] John: I had a great flight.
[315.29] Jae: Have you lost anything in water as in flying or RC?
[320.85] John: No.
[321.85] Jae: No?
[322.85] John: The price as I've come to water is on the beach in Cape Town and I was brave enough
[330.09] John: to fly maybe 30 metres out and then fly 30 metres back and maybe skate the beach front
[337.21] John: and things like that but I'm risk averse so I tend not to do crazy things over water.
[341.93] John: I mean I think as I get more confident there's plenty of opportunities to power loop bridges
[349.85] John: and things like that and there's water involved so I think there's always opportunity.
[360.22] John: So I mean I have over the winter I thought a lot about maybe using CFM or something like
[366.74] John: that, one of these sealants that sort of sprays on and polishes off or sprays off in
[372.7] John: the shower as a sealant to, against rain or landing wet or just flying through clouds
[380.02] John: and things like that.
[381.02] John: So yeah I mean I guess I'll have to think of something.
[383.9] Jae: Flying through clouds yeah.
[386.14] John: Well we did that so yeah we tried that and the biggest problem with flying through clouds
[391.06] John: is that your lens mists up and you can't see shit.
[395.02] John: You know it's not a problem.
[396.02] John: It's up to both of them.
[397.02] Jae: Yeah.
[400.02] Jae: Yeah.
[401.02] Jae: So you've still got to try it.
[402.02] Jae: I mean there are issues of signal loss as well over water as it absorbs a lot of the
[409.74] Jae: radio waves rather than it bouncing back up off the other ground so water isn't always
[414.34] Jae: a great thing to fly over regardless even if you've got sun.
[416.98] John: Yeah but I don't subscribe to that because line of sight is not really an issue over
[420.62] John: water is it?
[421.62] John: I don't have trees in the way.
[424.42] Jae: Half a kilometer so 500 meters away that's when you're talking there's going to be more
[428.3] Jae: of an issue.
[429.58] Jae: Not necessarily up close within 100 meters.
[431.66] Jae: Yeah.
[432.66] Jae: I'll bear that in mind.
[433.66] Jae: If you can pull that down it gets worse for the track carrying signal across parents.
[437.62] John: I'll bear that in mind when I start long-ranging.
[440.82] Jae: Yeah.
[441.82] Jae: Yeah.
[442.82] Clint: Yeah.
[443.82] Clint: That's why one thing on my list is that I'd love to get a wing and do some long-range
[449.26] Clint: stuff.
[450.58] Clint: You know we see people flying down through chasms and stuff.
[454.06] Clint: Is that what's that you got there one of the easy UHFs?
[458.14] John: Yeah.
[459.14] John: I've embarked on that dream I suppose.
[464.3] John: So what's your plan for it?
[465.3] John: A wing?
[466.3] John: How long do you have these many?
[467.3] John: I bought a many-tail and they seem to be quite popular.
[471.14] John: They've apparently they're fly really well.
[474.1] John: I haven't flown planes for literally decades you know it was in the it was the late 80s
[480.14] John: when I was a few aeroplanes with any consistency.
[485.94] John: So I just figured I saw this I saw a video and I thought that looks pretty good fun.
[492.06] John: I don't mind trying it out and not necessarily for the long-range stuff just to do like
[496.38] John: sort of you know slow soaring and you know with power on the back rather than actually
[501.14] John: soaping but so I figured what the hell and I saw a special on the mini-tail and kit from
[509.58] John: wherever Banggood for like 35 bucks I thought I'll buy that and I told my wife I said yeah
[514.74] John: I'm gonna buy this plane she said oh that's cool she said how much I said 35 bucks so
[519.22] John: that was the that was the kit she told me there was false advertising and crap so because
[525.74] John: I had to buy the UHF thing which I got from Constable for a good price and I had to buy
[531.78] John: motors and an APM and flight controllers and GPS modules and all sorts of crap and it's
[537.7] John: still rolling in APM hey funny AP and is it you want that it's it's like I mean it's
[547.06] John: so much potential and there's a lot of flies I haven't flown with it yet I'm just saying
[552.74] John: from a no I'm not saying no getting the thing working it looks like it's it's it's not it's
[560.38] John: not I know but that way it's the the control interface which is a thing called mission
[569.46] John: planner or that's one of them there's no there's no configuration page and pit put page like we
[576.86] John: used to where you do the tuning the tuning essentially yeah so you see a lot of the whole
[588.3] John: thing which is which is a bit sort of archaic for me but I mean it is an archaic port it's
[594.22] Jae: not even supported with I do pilot anymore so the same thing is an APM to and there's
[601.02] John: an APM so the older one is the old 8-bit this is the APM 2.8 and they stop supporting the
[608.5] John: I do pilot software on it still supported for I do copter so for for octocopters and
[614.62] John: things like that for I do pilots and supported so you're running an old version of the I do
[619.06] John: pilots firmware which is yeah it's for it's 3.4 as opposed to 3.7 or whatever so you weigh
[625.66] John: in the past but really the only thing that this board has that a regular flight controller has
[633.98] John: doesn't have is a barometer but you can get a full version of most flight controllers with
[638.7] John: the barometer on it anyway yeah and most of them supports inputs for GPS and the only thing that
[645.3] John: they don't support is this radio telemetry which is well it depends where you are in Europe it's
[652.74] John: 4.3.3 in the US is 9.15 it's a little bit it's a little bit funny that because the UHF is your
[661.1] John: UHF control channels at 4.3.3 as well so you're running two 4.3 streams out of your plane one
[667.34] John: for telemetry and one to fly the thing and theoretically you can fly it through the
[671.18] John: telemetry link as well if you enable joystick mode on your on your mission planner which seems
[675.98] Jae: like proper droning I suppose I mean I played the old version of APM I think it's got a lot
[682.54] Jae: of promise and there's a lot of configuration especially on the automated or the autonomous
[688.02] Jae: flight no you give much of a radius when it gets to that right way point how precise do you want
[693.06] Jae: to be and it opens up a lot of things but it's not something to be taken lightly and I think
[697.7] Jae: painless 360 was I kept referring to his stuff yeah I bought up so he's supposed to just launched
[706.38] John: a in this year he started a new series on on our nav and our nav is a fork of clean flight
[713.1] John: yeah yeah girls on the GPS stuff yeah what they've done is they've just brought the autonomous
[720.06] John: flight components back into it so and and into the from the original multi we which was there the
[728.38] Jae: origins of the whole thing that was the mega pirate wasn't it back a long way now John multi
[735.1] John: we had all of the autonomous flight stuff in it and then it disappeared and they changed it all
[739.98] John: disappeared when when whoever took it over and there's a time pop with it and took it over and
[745.18] John: started doing base flight anyway there's a there's a video on it so it's quite interesting to listen
[751.18] John: to explain the whole thing but I know it looks pretty cool in fact it's the first in the series
[754.98] John: from from painless 360 he is he's I like his accent to start with and yeah he's got good good
[765.62] Jae: content so you played with I never forget because Jack actually has played with it a lot yeah I
[772.06] John: haven't I haven't got a I haven't got a flight controller the barometer I mean it easy to get
[777.74] Jae: one but you know until now I think the reason they never actually developed any of the GPS stuff
[783.94] Jae: really other than the backyard things was because NASA was already getting its position hold in all
[791.46] Jae: the you know markets fat and having a useful GPS that should lock on and actually perform pretty
[796.9] Jae: well so they actually already captured that market for the GPS stuff so why would you bother on a
[801.5] John: racer when everything was going smaller yeah you want you you can't do fixed wings on a on a
[806.66] John: nozzle so hmm I don't know I why I haven't think I thought I now have enabled you to I never know
[817.9] John: or regular f3 boards like nice 32s and things like that it's all it is is a flight controlled
[823.58] Jae: parameters where you couldn't add a compass and the GPS module you know exactly so can you run you
[836.54] John: can't run clean flight net top of stuff on a nozzle board we can run a nays 32 but not on a
[842.12] Jae: nozzle can you not on a naza no on a naza as in yeah this is time yeah yeah time cops original
[850.14] Jae: thing is he said it's Japanese it's naza straight my other words to call it a maze nays 32 or these
[863.22] Jae: people have knocked the whole autonomous flying however I find that you know it's just another
[870.54] Jae: robot in that sense and actually it's quite an exciting thing to tinker with and that's what's
[874.78] John: missing from I mean argue the argue pilot thing does robots rovers cars boats whatever you want
[882.86] John: to see so they got us they've got a fork for all of those and all of those other things and the head
[887.46] John: the antenna head tracker is controlled by an APM so if I want an antenna to follow where your quad
[893.5] John: is you can do you can control that through APM as well so yeah I feel like she got one of those APM
[899.18] Clint: 2.8 it's the little gray ones isn't it like the rectangles yeah one of these yeah that's it I've
[905.74] Clint: got one of those knocking about somewhere yeah my tiny APM that's still in the way of going
[912.02] Jae: around around it's getting smaller a year but the pics walk was one of the interesting developments
[916.54] John: I think in that whole idea that's that's the thing that's sort of like superseded all the APM stuff
[923.34] Jae: yeah the pics all stuff expensive yeah all right if you're doing long long range or even if you're
[930.62] Jae: flying in certain areas with a wing or even a plane more likely wing actually having a GPS
[935.66] Jae: to start at circling is not a bad thing you know fail safe yeah exactly back to me when I get out
[942.38] Jae: of range I'll stay around come back a bit yeah so until I get signal then I'll take over again
[949.98] Clint: oh my quads where they just fall out of the sky and end up drowning
[956.38] Jae: planes are graceful aren't they? Quads beat gravity into submission
[961.34] Clint: because I've never I've never I've never flown a plane except someone let me have a go on a buddy
[966.06] Clint: box on the cup was it a cup the thing oh sheldens and I realized just how difficult it was flying
[973.98] Clint: line of sight but I would really really like a wing like an FPV wing I feel that'd be pretty
[980.06] Clint: astonishing but I don't think it's practical unless you've got the long range gear like is easy UHF
[985.26] Clint: which are they're they're the open source ones aren't they as well so it would be interesting
[989.66] Jae: to try one of those um I the long range stuff uh is one thing but I miss having a fixed wing to
[998.06] Jae: fly and things like that it is it's the sunday flying that I used to enjoy do you know do you
[1003.02] Jae: not have a fixed wing man well I do actually I have a big one that I wouldn't let you fly and
[1007.98] Clint: try and dive on I've got it I've got my trophy here somewhere it's buried away somewhere
[1017.9] Jae: maybe it's just me if anyone's can see Clinton's video there's no the chat room because I can't
[1023.18] Jae: anyway we should give some shout outs to the people there in the chat room we've got Stryker
[1026.78] Jae: got Scotty FPV the sloth FPV some more of the regular zero FPV I think the chat is so lively
[1036.06] Jae: if you haven't actually been to the YouTube not live on this page obviously now if you're
[1038.86] Jae: listening to it afterwards but if you're live at the moment pop into the chat room there's all
[1042.38] Jae: sorts of technical and funny things going on in there so we got uh gigawatts if we can tear away
[1048.78] Jae: find uh we'll find the chat room we will uh read some chat so we need some wonderful ideas as well
[1057.34] Jae: yeah well the idea is this we have the idea of Clinton's challenge don't we so every week or
[1062.94] Jae: maybe every other week we get to do something in a lot of time maybe we under certain conditions
[1068.22] Jae: so maybe I don't know um whatever it is standing on the head uh trying to resell the ESCs to a
[1076.22] Clint: flight control or something okay so we've got to try to try to try to re-solder my ESCs in the
[1081.34] Jae: microwave yeah using nothing but trying to reflow something in the oven you know whatever
[1088.06] Jae: challenge it is and it's not always going to be solar related it might be anything else and if
[1091.5] Jae: you've got suggestions pop them in the chat room yeah oh we've got Matt Gammons in the chat as well
[1097.26] Jae: Matt actually uh lost his quad the other day I know is how how has he lost his quad
[1102.38] Jae: um I think there was an antenna that wasn't right it failed safety but failed safety in like a
[1108.94] Clint: meadow with quite tall and I think you can actually find it for the no beeper or anything though
[1117.5] Jae: no I see that's the trouble sometimes if you swap out ESCs or something like that you don't always
[1121.74] Jae: set the beacon mode on it or if you're just trying out a quad like on my quad I haven't actually
[1125.58] Jae: attached a buzzer yet even though it's my main quad and I float it for a bit just attach a buzzer
[1130.86] Jae: and I've got plenty of them I give you enough away you're just getting around to it isn't it
[1134.7] Jae: so preparing a building and whatever not uh we do sometimes forget these things and it's always when
[1141.18] Clint: we're looking at buzzers buzzers and more buzzers if you've got buzzer put another one on if you
[1147.26] Jae: haven't got one put two on I never really subscribe to these locators however I'm not knocking them
[1153.58] Jae: and actually someone who but when I was flying with them they couldn't fly they lost it in a fair
[1158.7] Jae: way away I wouldn't have ever thought to walk there I saw rough direction it went but it just
[1163.5] Jae: flew off I was flying with Simon anyway he had one of the locators in it pretty much found it
[1171.74] John: yeah I was flying with Jason and um Stuart and uh Simon this morning this afternoon and
[1177.34] John: and in the buttercup fields um you're talking waist deep in buttercups and yeah we you found
[1185.9] John: he's found his quad twice with the locator today so it's definitely especially in long grass
[1190.78] Jae: so that's another that's a plus two I don't think they're cheap probably they're a little bit of
[1195.02] Jae: investment and they're also quite a large tag that sits on the quad I was I was going to put
[1199.26] Clint: them on my uh I was going to put them on the gopros um the gopro is always on the on the quad
[1204.78] Clint: anyway and I'd be more upset if I lost the gopro at sort of 250 not a bad idea the trouble is
[1211.42] Jae: that the locator is like a parachute for a gopro session nowadays so that's that's my I mean I
[1217.5] John: always turn the wires it's not quite I always turn the wireless on my gopro because if it does go
[1222.54] John: down that gives you what like about 30 meters range connection for the wifi and with that
[1229.9] John: wifi and that you can enable it remotely and you can enable the locator on it which is we've tested
[1235.1] John: it today it's quite a good beep as well if you quiet in the field yeah it's birds usually like
[1242.86] Jae: upset that violence isn't it it's the summer season we fly and that's when all the birds are
[1247.98] Jae: chirping and I've tried to find beeps in a field of long grass and and had that same problem
[1254.22] Jae: here for the birds but I think on your on a plane especially a locator is probably not a bad thing
[1260.78] John: and it's proven to you today John that they work yeah yeah I mean I don't think you I don't think
[1267.5] John: you have that much chance of successfully using the locator if you've got a telemetry link
[1275.98] John: um then you or your you had your if you have a telemetry link then theoretically you should be
[1281.9] John: having to rewind and look at your GPS coordinates so so if you're running a long-range plane your
[1288.06] John: GPS record coordinates are typically accurate to like two meters so yeah yeah but um things
[1296.7] Jae: also sail when they're coming down so if you lost your video at that altitude it could still sail
[1301.66] Jae: for a fair way yeah exactly actually maybe that's and that's why that's why you got your fail safe
[1309.82] John: set up to return to home so it's all about what the autopilot will allow you to configure
[1319.42] John: and what you can still push so one of your one of your connections needs to be infallible
[1325.98] John: so is that your your long-range transmitter is it your telemetry link is it your goggles well
[1331.82] John: that's pretty useless if you have the best you can see is that you can watch your plane going into
[1335.66] Jae: the ground i've seen that enough with my quad on team fair safe but yeah yeah so the ranger sorry
[1344.86] Clint: i was just i was just reading up on the locators as well and uh the range is about 122 meters or 400
[1350.54] Clint: feet so that's pretty substantial especially for like mini mini quads so it gives you a 122 meter
[1360.22] John: buffer you need to know where it went down approximately though so today's last um endeavor
[1367.34] John: into the fields to find a quad resulted in the locator not working and us searching in
[1372.86] John: completely wrong place by a good 120 meters bizarrely okay okay this is not such a game
[1381.82] Jae: well i've heard mixed reports and that's why i throw it up if anyone in the chat room has used
[1385.66] Jae: the locator and swears by or not and actually someone uh is it ben that turns up quite late
[1389.82] Jae: hidden valley uh at least last summer um he's used some quite successes yeah i've seen a few
[1398.06] Clint: people with those locators and i've heard nothing with good things about them to be fair i always
[1402.46] Clint: look at the price and think well that'll buy me four new batteries so yeah exactly and and also
[1411.82] Jae: it's quite a large thing to attach and they all you know yeah i guess the grand scheme of things
[1418.46] Clint: they're not they're not that big are they um you know they fit on the side of a gopro nicely
[1425.82] Jae: so at least a what for three to four centimeters three four centimeters
[1433.34] John: it's probably um 30 millimeters across i would say that disk yeah they're 32 millimeters to be
[1440.06] Clint: exact you were you were pretty close but you got it close yeah they're probably way
[1447.58] John: three to four grams i would have thought let's push our luck so just out of interest so what
[1454.38] Clint: do we say three point two so that would literally clean fit on the clean fit on the back of a
[1462.94] Clint: of a gopro perfectly so a gopro is uh three point five centimeters you just wouldn't be
[1471.02] Clint: able to get to the switch at the back anymore you'd have to stick it you'd have to stick on
[1477.82] Clint: the side yeah but you can stick it on the side and yeah by the looks of things it would fit
[1481.82] Clint: perfectly it was like they they were designed for it you always be slightly off the center
[1486.62] Clint: when you're flying along yeah well that's the thing because if you've got more than one quads
[1493.1] Clint: to have one of those locating discs and i don't think they're that expensive but they still cost
[1496.78] Clint: money um yes that's a good idea one on your gopro and you know you're you're done aren't you
[1503.82] Jae: and let's face it your gopro never launches that far away from your
[1507.42] Clint: from your club somebody's priced i've lost one in the field for three months
[1513.66] Jae: this is why it's got a strong connection to you isn't it that's why you're thinking instantly
[1517.42] Jae: i'll attach it to my gopro i don't get it last week is to whether you lick your gopro
[1523.34] Jae: lens to clean it do you oh this is john i do lick my gopro lens to clean it
[1531.34] Jae: you do your big gopro just for the record thank you thank you lens as well that's what we're
[1536.78] Jae: going to say on the subject this week ask every person that's new to the show windows myself
[1547.11] Clint: oh this will be fun i mean it you know whatever works really but i mean a good good white with
[1552.15] John: a t-shirt sort of like an apple i agree the lenses are super tough i um i got given a um one
[1561.11] John: of those those glass foot over lenses you know the thing that's meant just that's what i came
[1567.67] John: in yeah what they call it tent bit glass or whatever yeah oh yeah for the gopro on the gopro
[1573.91] John: one flight first flight hit a tree and smashed it and i've hit trees a lot harder than that
[1580.15] John: with a gopro and okay so the worst happens i've destroyed a gopro but i mean typically they they
[1585.75] John: just scuff that glass than the native gopro glass and you can polish it out a lot oftentimes you
[1592.31] John: look and you think oh great i've screwed the glass up and then you clean it give it a bit
[1596.31] John: all clean and it's perfectly fine so the toughened glass use i mean there's a reason you're paying
[1602.23] Jae: 250 bucks for the thing you know so they're designed to be solid um i okay my gopro is
[1609.35] Jae: relatively new but after quite a few smacks i've noticed there's method uh gouges out of the rubber
[1614.71] Jae: surround so it's had some knocks but the lens is still nice and clean and and scratch free
[1622.47] Jae: i had a watch like that it was a seiko watch a long time ago even though the
[1625.59] Jae: new and everything would get scruffed up and everything the watch face didn't and i was always
[1630.23] Jae: amazed that they could make glass pretty strong even though the metal band had that and clearly
[1635.59] Jae: this didn't have that glass for a while but gopro glass is strong so you're going to put another
[1639.51] John: temp in one arm no no no point i've got one but um still probably asked for it back so
[1647.98] Jae: and not only that you've got to peel off if it doesn't break off in one piece every other bit
[1652.38] John: of the glass shard that's left it's good like a um like a gel backing to it so it all comes off
[1658.22] John: in one piece when you do put it off it was it was stuck to the floor here for a while
[1664.46] Jae: in my office yeah i need to think about some uh insurance for uh my gopro you say protect my
[1671.02] Clint: bubble don't you yeah i mean i've got um i've got my session four which is in short by pc world
[1677.34] Clint: or curries and uh that's actually fantastic because they don't repair the sessions
[1682.54] Clint: you walk in and they just go and get your brand new gopro off the shelf and give it to you there
[1686.22] John: and then so that's that's very good incidentally that's that depends on your on your curries some
[1692.7] John: curries uh think they smart and try and send them away to some agent to get repaired and then screw
[1698.06] John: you over which is what happened to me but i mean the insurance still paid out and i and i ended up
[1702.62] John: with another gopro after destroying the lens which is cool i was lucky in the sense that i just walked
[1708.38] Clint: in they replaced it but i know now because i bought the session five recently and um they
[1714.3] Clint: no longer do their insurance policy so you you can't buy it on the session four or session five
[1718.62] Clint: anymore so they don't do the insurance anymore you have to get it from somewhere else so that's
[1723.74] Clint: recent then yeah yeah so that's quite a recent thing so i think because they don't repair the
[1728.54] Clint: sessions um they didn't want to insure them because it was costing them too much to replace
[1732.46] Clint: them i guess so it's just the sessions are not the blacks no no just the sessions as far as i'm
[1737.98] Clint: aware so they they don't they no longer do insurance on them um but this is just
[1743.98] Clint: a short through uh protect my bubble and then this uh 50 pound excess if i break it
[1749.34] Jae: have you cleaned through them before though because the half the trouble is often the claim
[1755.18] Jae: is what sorry the claim process alone like have you actually tried to claim from uh protect my
[1760.22] Clint: bubble i haven't no um hopefully it's not too bad but i haven't broke one yet to be fair so
[1768.38] Clint: yeah i mean have you do you know something i don't know i know i don't actually that's why i'm just
[1774.06] Jae: curious um insurance companies are in the art of trying to get out of it especially with gadget
[1780.62] Jae: insurance um and i had a lot of camera once no it was just a point and shoot but i think in the
[1786.62] Clint: sense that you know they do have the um 50 pound excess it's probably makes it a little bit easier
[1795.02] Clint: in the sense of you know you're not just going to keep sending the camera back to getting replaced
[1800.14] Jae: and you didn't you contact them to say do you cover this even if it's flying blah blah blah
[1805.98] Clint: yeah and uh the the best thing is is they even ensure it against theft and loss as well so um
[1812.22] Clint: that's pretty cool i mean that's if you lose it well i have i have lost yeah i have lost gopro
[1818.62] Clint: so mind you know turn up again it's always the session four i don't know what it is about my
[1823.66] Clint: gopro session four i couldn't tell you where it is now but that thing somehow gets lost anywhere
[1830.38] Clint: it could be in my pocket and i'll lose it and find it two weeks later in my pocket so yeah i
[1836.14] Jae: swear it's possessed um hey that's a new one is it possessed with uh the dark spirit of uh
[1848.79] Clint: tim west whatever his name is well i lost i actually i lost my session four about two weeks
[1854.23] Clint: ago and we we turned the house upside down trying to find it do you know where it was
[1859.51] Clint: um in your car under the coffee table in my mother-in-law's house
[1868.57] Jae: what are you filming under your mother's coffee table that mother-in-law's coffee table
[1874.09] Clint: i genuinely don't know how it got there but yeah that's where it was
[1877.77] Jae: that raises many more questions than it answers uh
[1880.81] Jae: uh-oh
[1886.07] Jae: no i the trouble is these are getting very small now and uh it's not easy to
[1890.95] Clint: but it's it's always you see the session five i always know where it is you know i can i can
[1897.27] Clint: just walk pick it up and it's there always know where it is the session four never never and they
[1905.27] Clint: look the same they feel the same that i just don't know why so yeah there's something wrong
[1911.59] Clint: with it it's a four it's nothing wrong with it to be fair um by the time you take session four
[1929.75] Clint: and session five by the time you've uploaded it to youtube is there really a noticeable difference
[1935.11] Jae: and often it's not just the uploading to youtube but you've got to be careful when you're exporting
[1938.55] Jae: these videos i i put one up not so long ago and when i exported it from just standard matching
[1944.63] Jae: the bit rate from this you know the files it came out quite blocky and it was only when i
[1950.87] Jae: traveled the size from 500 to 1.5 gig did actually start to look okay so it's not always youtube's
[1957.11] Jae: fault compressing it sometimes it's before you even upload it the compression there
[1961.19] Clint: okay well i do i do need to review my settings in many ways i've changed my settings to 60 frames
[1971.35] John: per second super view and never had an issue so but then again i used to do 90 frames per second
[1978.15] John: and but i encoded with the gopro app rather than using so maybe the way the maybe the way the gopro
[1986.23] John: um studio application works um makes things work a little bit better i don't know well often it
[1994.62] Jae: knows that it's an mp4 file it can cut it for where it thinks it should be it should actually
[1999.9] Jae: know exactly how to cut it up to the right spots sometimes you know learn in native format that it
[2008.3] Jae: knows completely about yeah well i can't wait for a new gopro i think they are coming out later this
[2016.07] Jae: year so only a few months now let's see how much the gopro version 5 sell for was there was there
[2022.31] Jae: any more information on that do you know on the gopro not really it's usually in the full time
[2030.15] Jae: the three month period up to christmas so they usually aim for so expect something by september
[2035.35] Jae: i'd say um there was rumors of doing ak but they might actually go down to something like 5k
[2041.75] Jae: plays out there for like mac books and stuff like that so they might actually just increase
[2046.47] Jae: that slightly you probably see an increase of the 4k recording to like 60 frames a second or
[2051.83] Clint: and more on the 1080p every interest to see you see where the logical step would be
[2059.83] Jae: well this is you know they've tried other ventures now with the
[2064.39] Jae: calmer drone which will fly them but they they didn't have a great success with that and also
[2070.79] Jae: some of their social media stuff that they probably pumped a lot of money into quite take
[2074.71] Jae: off in the same manner i think so as long as they concentrate on the cameras and as long as they
[2079.51] Jae: put all the other competitors at bay rather than through them through lawsuits but innovation
[2084.95] Jae: we've probably still got a few years yet of a yearly this release cycle um the gopro because
[2090.87] Jae: they haven't always had that it's usually two years on some i think the three two years the
[2096.47] Jae: three plus and stuff but they've adopted them apple philosophy release it late the year before
[2104.07] Jae: christmas and make it uber cool and everyone will want one but that makes that makes sense i suppose
[2111.67] Clint: yeah i mean i i have tried a few upper cameras and i personally not found anything that comes
[2117.83] Clint: close to the gopro and the durability of them as well i mean like john was just saying you know
[2122.31] Clint: these these glass the glass on these things are absolutely insanely tough yeah exactly never
[2129.03] Clint: broke one and i've crashed quartz a lot so um the other bonus for me is i had my old three
[2137.59] Jae: and i had some bike mounts and all sorts of other mounts i could now use my session because they
[2141.51] Jae: get at least kept the cage mounting bracket exactly the same so ah so even though i went
[2147.51] Jae: away for a while and had a ye i have come back to the gopro well so how long before your planes
[2158.82] Jae: up and flying then john how many of you didn't see it fly and then crash because you haven't
[2162.02] John: flown in decades well i'm waiting for a motor to come from dang good to start with so that's the
[2170.66] John: one primary um component that's still missing and i probably have to buy a couple of batteries
[2176.9] John: so i have to buy a couple of five five thousand million powers or something um the electronics
[2183.06] John: is here on my desk i've now got the head tracking working um i'm in the process of tweaking the head
[2189.46] John: tracking so that it's so i can so i can do pan and tilt off either the head tracker with it
[2194.98] John: and then toggle the switch and and uh and use uh the sliders on my radio so that i can do one
[2202.26] John: or the other you know because maybe you want a fixed pan position as well so um uh so that's
[2209.86] John: that's done now i think i've got the electronics working i just have to suss out how to configure
[2213.7] John: the apm module to support vtail because this is a vtail plane um and then i should be good to go
[2220.58] John: i haven't sussed out the the telemetry link yet so i haven't i've got to know the steel on the thing
[2225.94] John: which is which should be sufficient um for your regular flight but um they say the the telemetry
[2232.9] John: link is good for mission planning and mission changes during but i mean it's not a big thing
[2236.66] John: for me but it's good for locating it if it goes down because it logs all of the data in the mission
[2241.06] John: planner so you get like a little um usb uh receiver that you plug into a usb port on a laptop and you
[2248.26] John: run the thing live so there's that that i need to do and then there's um putting the thing together
[2254.18] John: so i've i've created all the wings i've created the tail plane um i've printed a bunch of stuff
[2262.34] John: uh to improve some of the parts that they give you because they um well they could do with
[2267.86] Jae: improved something rocket league can talk this is everyone if you look at the live stream now
[2275.46] Jae: in rocket league face just have a look i've learned i can i can share my screen if you want
[2281.3] Jae: i mean the level of concentration in that face is just focus when you add so much onto something
[2287.86] Jae: though there's more of it to go wrong in the initial sense no no apm well yeah you're right
[2292.98] John: i mean i should really be flying it with just off the receiver to start with but then the weight
[2298.34] John: parameters change and your center of gravity changes and everything so yeah it's easier to
[2303.38] Jae: change but you should just fly it as minimum as you possibly can just to check things over
[2308.42] John: check yeah so um i i'm not adding anything on that isn't in the kit um so in other words
[2317.22] John: there's a frame in the kit that they give you like a wooden frame and but there's no base to
[2321.62] John: the frame so how do you match it in a frame with no base so um this thing is just like a
[2329.78] John: it's a shelf that's been printed that fits onto that existing base so it's a it's a it's about
[2334.82] John: another 60 grams in total of um of weight when you've got a takeoff weight of 101.3 1.4 kilos
[2343.54] John: 60 grams is not really going to make much of a difference so um it's just you know and skids
[2350.5] John: find the need so they let they give you landing gear in the kit but the landing gear is pretty
[2354.5] John: pretty pretty crappy to be honest because i don't have a runway to land on i've got a field with
[2360.74] John: long grass to land in so the wheel is superfluous so i've just put some skid plates along with
[2366.1] John: along the bottom that i printed out um it's all there's a guy um called mark q who who um who
[2372.42] John: builds these things he's built four of them uh he's got a great blog on on the internet where he
[2377.7] John: goes through all the different things and he prints and designs all sorts of different
[2380.82] John: modifications for his plans and things so um that i'm following his best advice you know so i'm not
[2387.86] John: i'm not necessarily following the manufacturer's guides but i mean the thing is is a is a is
[2393.86] John: apparently a workhorse it flies a great it's a great thing to fly and um and i'm looking forward
[2400.98] John: to it i think it's an easy fly they say they say that's one of the most important things that isn't
[2405.3] John: it flies well it doesn't need a you know you don't need a um an eagle eye on it so to speak
[2411.7] John: although this thing will have an autopilot which will automatically stabilize because of the three
[2415.7] John: actions jar and all that nonsense so i'm looking forward to it'll be good fun um that's a good fun
[2422.82] Jae: i mean because i've got fixed wing it's you know topping and i've lost my low wing but
[2426.9] Jae: um i always wanted a wing of something but the one that uh i've been interested in for a little
[2431.3] Jae: while it's the skywalker series the x5 x8 you know i think it's two meter wingspan but it's
[2437.06] Jae: done as a just a pretty much as a wing but with a proper canopy i think they have a total sort of
[2442.42] Jae: um payload capacity of a few kilos often like i think even four kilos and some of these things
[2450.98] Jae: and this is essentially a plane isn't it there will be just as much fun as applying a line of
[2457.46] John: sight through the air exactly if you look at search for quadmover on the internet on youtube
[2464.82] John: quadmover and many talent and he's he uses one as a as a around the park fire so it's great fun
[2471.22] John: and even just local so i mean i think the autopilot and long-range stuff is just you know
[2476.34] John: something a little different um yeah no specific aspirations there seems to be a sort of a 10 or 12
[2482.5] John: kilometer average radius i mean you need battery to get 10 or 12 kilometers the thing that can
[2488.58] John: potentially fly at something like 100 mile an hour or 100 kilometers an hour 110 kilometers an hour
[2494.58] John: when you got the right props and things like that but um it's it's it's something fun i'll probably
[2500.34] John: lose it on the first flight and be back to quadmover it's not it's not a lot of flying
[2506.9] John: podcasts i mean especially when i'm where i am at right now with my my flying skill development
[2514.58] John: you know i've started pinching you'll be happy tonight so i'm a little bit cold turkey a week
[2520.5] John: and a half ago and just started pinching and just stuck with it and and where is it you get you get
[2526.98] Clint: used to it really quickly it's such a strange thing because you do ice ice just out of interest i
[2532.9] Clint: spent a few days pinching on the simulators yeah me too and i got really used to it and really
[2538.34] Clint: good at it and i was i felt really happy and comfortable and then i'd go out and fly and
[2542.98] Clint: couldn't pinch i just couldn't do it i had to had to go back to thumbs but then over the course of
[2548.74] Clint: about a month maybe a month and a half i just naturally started pinching and yeah i i wouldn't
[2554.66] Jae: go back now i'm i think a lot of people make the assumption the pinching and it's not necessarily
[2559.46] Jae: pinching is pinching the sticks but sometimes people do the hybrid which is the thumbs just
[2566.5] Jae: on top to stop so i think i mean i don't really fully pinch in the sense that it's pinching the
[2574.02] Jae: sticks and that's what people sometimes say hybrid but i think having two fingers on a control stick
[2579.78] Jae: stops any of them just slipping off because it's not even that you know it is for me
[2585.38] John: i hang the radio from the lanyard so i'm not holding the radio i'm resting my hands on the
[2590.5] John: radio like it's a like it's a desk you know and that releases the tension in your hand which gives
[2596.5] John: you so much more granularity on the pinch so and that's a massive change whereas when you're
[2602.42] John: holding and thumbing you've got this tension in your wrists because you're holding the radio even
[2607.62] John: if it's on a lanyard you're still holding it with your fingers and your and your thumbs are
[2611.62] John: are i don't know it's hard to it's it's hard to explain but i mean it's i hybrid to a certain
[2618.34] John: degree so um it's over the top you know my thumb my index finger over the top and my thumb's kind
[2624.5] John: of on the top of the stick it's not a true pinch i will work towards the two print pinch but i'm
[2630.74] John: still i'm still at that point where if i'm going to do something a little bit um a little bit more
[2636.5] John: ambitious than usual i sort of fall back to to thumbing which i'm slowly trying to get myself
[2641.94] John: out of you know to to do all of this stuff and i found that the yaw becomes a lot more accessible
[2648.18] John: when you pinch so yaw and i've always been wary of the yaw with when i was thumbing so but now
[2655.46] John: do i like do a roll over a tree and then do a flat yaw spin inverted over the top and it's just
[2661.06] John: natural you know so it's it's it's changed just changed my life a little bit yeah yeah my sex life
[2668.18] Jae: is better and yeah i think it's sometimes a bit of a culture change to actually go to to move across
[2684.34] Jae: but i think when i did a post on road right they got it was about 500 responses that came back and
[2690.42] Jae: there's more thumbers out there and they have good pilots there first and rubbish pinches and
[2695.22] John: damn good pinches with rubbish you know i'm so good at it i pinch for rocket league man
[2703.14] Jae: i'm on your tarantines are you actually serious you guys i'm like that's what actually your
[2708.34] Jae: face turns orange and blue as it changes different sides no game i wonder i wonder if the thumbing
[2717.14] Clint: has come from theory games and whether that's where people have progressed over yeah and just
[2723.3] Clint: gone with with farming because that's obviously what i was doing as well and being an xbox player
[2728.26] Clint: um yeah so i wonder i wonder whether that's the progression of it but i don't know there are some
[2734.1] Clint: really good pinches and there are some really good farmers there's some good hype everything
[2737.7] Clint: i think people just stick to what they they need to stick to yeah it works for them i'm not i'm not
[2744.42] John: an advocate of pinching i'm not like uh going to punt it but it's i've done it and i've found
[2749.54] John: that it improves my flight but that's not to say that the next guy you know moves away from from
[2754.82] John: pinching to thumbing and enjoys he's going more you know so oh he's going his flight
[2760.58] Jae: it's more of the the flying itself do you feel comfortable flying and how do you feel comfortable
[2765.62] Jae: flying i know very local flyers very good thumbers that but i do just hear occasional stories where
[2771.14] Jae: on a hot sweaty day you're in the air there's people that have slipped off that thumb i do it
[2776.34] Jae: all the time which may result in a crash i've never happened all the time before i started i was
[2782.26] Jae: slipping a finger yeah slipping like i'm through putting into pinching because it didn't get
[2789.54] Clint: locked in the face it's a hard transition as well though i mean to go from thumbing to pinching or
[2797.14] Clint: pinching to thumbing like actively trying to make that change yeah not it's not something you can go
[2801.78] Clint: and do in in sort of three or four packs you have to sort of stick at it and do a review you need to
[2807.94] John: be brave and do it a little bit by a little bit in a sense so um something i found interesting
[2814.5] Clint: or something that i discovered this week was i have never seen a tiny one until uh until this
[2820.82] Clint: weekend i've never seen one in the flesh i've never seen one in the flesh until until this
[2826.66] Clint: weekend gone and i assumed that things like the qx 95 and the qx 80 were similar but i've actually
[2834.74] Clint: discovered that they're not remotely the same in in in kind of what they are i mean that the um
[2843.46] Clint: the tiny whoops and the little inductrix pods they're a completely different kettle of fish
[2848.82] Clint: yeah they they are i genuinely because i bought a qx 95 thinking that would be a nice indoor flyer
[2855.38] Clint: fly around in in the house and everything like that but when you actually when you actually
[2859.22] Clint: consider what you're flying around there's this this being a high screen and when you do get hit
[2864.1] Clint: by them they're not going to seriously hurt you but they do nip and do um clip you and stuff so
[2871.54] Jae: and i saw i mean you can get fast tiny whoops but the other indoor flyers the qx
[2877.22] Jae: and the things and stuff and all the other brush to micro are often quite fast windows
[2883.7] Clint: i mean i i i got the pleasure of flying with jesse parkins who's uh who's he's the owner of
[2890.1] Clint: time to look and seeing his work fly around absolutely incredible the control the precision
[2897.06] Clint: that it it looks like a big quad flying around a small track um it was absolutely shocking and
[2905.14] Clint: nothing takes them down either because they are inductees they just they just bounce off everything
[2912.42] Clint: um so yeah i'm i am currently that is the next thing on my list i am going to get myself a tiny
[2918.66] John: whoop can we get the new one from from uh from whatever they're called horizon hobbies that's
[2926.1] John: got a that's got the camera built into it so it's all you don't have to buy the camera separately
[2931.78] Clint: yeah i think that's what i was looking at oh i was really lucky actually um maybe some of the new
[2937.78] Clint: uh the new uh is it hot source motors some of the new really high high caving brush motors
[2944.26] Clint: so of course some of those i just need something to put it into now sometimes
[2950.68] Jae: but i want to be there must be enough going for sale on ebay and
[2954.76] Jae: drone drone card uk do people get rid of them i haven't thought about it actually that's a
[2959.0] Jae: really good idea because actually you know after a while the motors do start to wear out then they're
[2964.12] Jae: not on a lot less time than a brushed one if you say enough so you might find something that
[2972.28] Clint: sounds cheap yeah i might i might well do it actually i i it's definitely on my list because
[2977.48] Clint: i think it fills a hole that the qx 95 didn't and that's truly being able to fly around the house
[2985.88] Clint: and you know and setting up a little racetrack and stuff whereas with the qx 95 where they're
[2991.32] Clint: open where the blades are open it just one one little tap and that's it it's down you've got
[2996.36] Clint: to get up go and pick it up take goggles off and everything like that whereas where's the
[3000.44] Clint: work we just carry on just carry on so yeah i'm really impressed so how was that event actually
[3011.38] Clint: coming on um i i i only went up i went up with tony and uh jack nash and we we just went up for
[3018.82] Clint: the friday in the end um i mean there are a few few issues and stuff but overall is pretty
[3024.1] Clint: pretty good it was a it was a good day out and a good experience so unfortunately we didn't get
[3029.38] Clint: tiny whoops fly we were flying the efini 101's are they which brand new darn little bad flyers
[3036.9] Clint: they can work quite well i mean compared to uh compared to what jesse was flying with his
[3042.82] Jae: uh yeah but he would have had the most you know the best uh forward and the best motors on it and
[3048.34] Jae: good batteries and so you can't you know it's a mass factory produced but if you want that tiny
[3054.02] Jae: indoor induction flight you can get it on the cheap um you don't always have to spend the money
[3060.58] Jae: but i've you know actually there's some interesting things that they've done with tiny
[3068.5] Jae: and i i think they're actually going to go from this strength to the next one as as long as they
[3072.42] Jae: keep it up yeah i hope so i change they they set the mark for micro flyers that you could use with
[3078.9] Clint: the proper radio and all that yeah i mean it it's really interesting i said before before the weekend
[3085.78] Clint: and actually seeing one um i i'd always seen them as an expensive qx i hadn't seen them as anything
[3092.26] Clint: other than you know an expensive version of the qx but they really aren't the same thing
[3096.74] Clint: that they're completely different the qx is perfect for flying around your garden or
[3104.34] Clint: you know in little car park um whereas it's sort of a little bit too big and a little bit too fast
[3111.38] Clint: for flying flying around in the house yeah right where's where try flying the house as a baby hawk
[3119.7] Clint: oh yeah i want one of those so bad no i don't actually i don't have an already got a tiny wing
[3127.54] Jae: to fly around in my house no actually what you could do is make a paper plane and you can ask
[3134.66] John: paper planes so you might i have this so let me get this quickly i have this which is
[3143.38] John: which is now broken but you had what did you have what was it this is a phone controlled rc plane
[3149.94] John: thing so it's like a paper plane thing that connects to a usb port i mean not a usb port
[3155.54] John: just connects which is pretty cool to your bluetooth it's just this little thing it's like a
[3160.18] John: rod with a tail a motor on the one end and a tail server on the on the end which is pretty cool
[3167.14] John: so i mean that is it yeah it flies okay i mean you it has to be dead still during the day
[3173.62] John: i have i have pretty much like one um one paper plane outfit but there's a there's a there's a
[3181.14] John: cult following for the things so it's pretty cool it was it was pretty much 10 years ago that
[3188.1] Jae: the spectrum dx never came out which was quite a 2.4 gig he has things so i wonder what's going
[3192.9] Jae: to happen in 2027 now and 10 years from now as everything's got much more miniature and we've
[3198.58] Jae: actually had an electric flight take off really in that time in the last 10 years it's been
[3204.5] John: 20 years more will be interesting yeah it's been you think about it for those 10 years it's the
[3209.94] John: it's the invention of the foamy aeroplane that's that's completely made um rc hobby sport
[3216.66] John: accessible you know yeah indoor flying well you know indoor yeah exactly yeah so i mean
[3223.86] John: it's it's foam it's cheap it doesn't break when you've crashed it once so yeah it's it's awesome
[3230.02] John: but i mean uh some people they crash a plane they buy a new one they don't fix it so you don't have
[3235.78] John: to you know it costs three pounds if you've got a bit of foam and you can make your own plane out
[3240.26] John: of foam if you if you look sky the internet enough you'll find guys who are making planes
[3244.66] Jae: shoot polystyrene you know yeah well it was 10 years ago that my thunder power 1320
[3251.38] Jae: uh three style i think it was was about 40 pounds for one battery for a 1300 yeah crazy
[3261.14] Jae: it was now it's what eight pounds if you're lucky on hobby king or even cheaper yeah
[3268.9] Clint: sorry as i say uh john are you flying um which batteries are you flying at the moment on your
[3273.62] John: drones i run each he's so i've got two tops i've got the 75s and the 95s and the 95s seem to work
[3281.3] John: okay um the 75s are fine as well i mean i now that the warmer weather's here um you know they're
[3288.58] John: 1500s so they do the job they're there okay i've got a couple of 5s um hs as well and those are
[3294.66] John: good fun but they i mean they punch us you know punch out and then and then land yeah
[3304.74] Jae: with a soft landing from above it's under slung from a ballooned battery yeah exactly
[3315.35] Clint: i was just curious i mean i you know i've uh all of my batteries the acs as well
[3319.83] Clint: um to be fair the only issues i've had with them is the xt 60s they seem to be really badly sold
[3326.39] Clint: and i've had at least five that have just sort of pulled out um where have the xt 60 connector
[3333.67] Clint: yeah five of them now well at least five of them you see my batteries are all shrunk
[3337.51] Jae: wrapped together and resold it and that's just thing of mine i never found the ones i've repaired
[3344.15] Jae: um that the xt 60 lead or the connectors have ever broken it's usually the balance lead
[3349.99] Jae: and it's usually their strap that they provide which is punctured enough for myself because
[3354.39] Jae: there's a metal sheet in them um protecting the surf you know main surface area that the cells
[3361.59] Jae: on two sides but that cuts into the causes them to die i like them i find that they've taken a
[3369.27] John: beating beating and abusing and they yeah i find these batteries as robust as my old
[3376.55] John: ternary 65cs the ternary ones that i had they're graphene's right which is saying something you
[3384.71] John: know i've just sold a couple of eight um of graphene's that are probably um a year old maybe
[3391.99] John: to to a young chap that we fly well that we don't fly with but in our group and and um
[3397.35] John: i think he's going to find that those are the best batteries of the of the batch that i sold him
[3401.59] John: you know i'm not a big person to sell second hand batteries but the guys in the spot and
[3405.99] John: and it's going to help in us which is cool so easy on this he's charging charging double yeah
[3415.24] John: well i've i've been i've never yeah you didn't know 20 bucks a shot
[3421.56] Clint: you got them for a steal actually but these are these are 40 pounds each right
[3426.76] John: graphene super extreme yeah they look nice
[3432.68] Jae: but then they come with a bag the original graphene's like a little drawstring bag
[3438.12] John: screen bag yeah i've got them still i kept the bags
[3443.08] Jae: you know one day there's some of these might appear in museum
[3446.92] Jae: mod copters and things that they come up yeah so we've got mr thrust in the chat he came in
[3453.0] Jae: quite late good day mr thrust marty um we're still planning some a weird event probably 24
[3458.36] Jae: hours strikers up for that so watch this space 24 hour live stream hey
[3464.76] Jae: yeah well he knows i mean the summer's here tony sadly tony's um not made it this week his dogs
[3472.28] Jae: hurt himself so he's had to take it to the emergency vet um but uh i know he's up for
[3477.48] Jae: that so we'll get back on to that soon but john it's been a pleasure sir to have you back on and
[3483.56] Jae: paying attention not playing rocket league it'd be interesting to see you playing maybe we could
[3489.72] Jae: have your plane flying is uh in a live stream uh on a Thursday night because the weather's it's
[3495.56] John: still light right yeah yeah we could easily get a well we could i mean theoretically i could uh
[3503.16] John: i could rig my goggles to um to present to the to my screen and then screen share and then fly
[3513.96] John: live and get a friend to launch it outside for me i think that's the definite actually
[3520.92] Jae: what could go wrong first bite it'll be fine second flight it'll
[3529.16] John: yeah i've got nice places to fly around here as well so i'm quite lucky um there's a lot of farm
[3535.4] John: land and i mean i've i don't have the permission to fly on the over the farmland but i mean the
[3541.72] John: farmers here are pretty they're pretty cool and they're not the kids so it's all good and
[3547.08] John: i'll have my dog with me so there's always that excuse no no i'm just training my dog
[3551.64] Jae: with this radio control fetch fetch well i'll be keen to see that i i do like fixed wing um
[3563.24] John: the thing that makes fixed wing fpv even more fun is when you do it in a in a pack
[3567.64] John: a formation fpv is even more fun in a pack so yeah you need to you need to gear yourself
[3576.44] Jae: tool yourself up so in what you're saying is quinton you need to build a uh plane a mini
[3584.66] Jae: talon i need to put a mini talon and uh we'll do that formation flying honest if i if i'd known
[3591.7] John: more about it before i bought the mini talon i would have got a drag so there's a drag and
[3595.94] John: a mini drag and there are some sweet looking look it up dr dr ak i think it is um they have
[3603.38] John: some sweet looking they they wings so they they have elevons or they call them um they
[3609.62] Clint: are elevons aren't they is that the right is it is that the right wing drag it could be yes yeah
[3617.38] John: right three hundred and twenty nine dollars yeah yeah now we're talking then now we're talking
[3624.02] Clint: it does it looks like a futuristic it does look spacious it does look pretty damn awesome
[3629.7] Clint: to be fair the problem with that kind of thing is that being a noob to uh fixed wings i can just
[3635.94] Clint: see myself grounded uh you know putting it hard into the ground on the first run so i kind of just
[3641.86] Clint: want to get myself i've got loads of motors and escs and everything knocking them out so i kind
[3645.78] Clint: of just want something that i can throw what i've got on and just and just sort of go and go and
[3651.3] Jae: hammer it a bit really before spending which what you get from a wing but a wing doesn't necessarily
[3655.94] Jae: fly the same as as a plane um they're very similar in their dynamics and things like that but they
[3661.7] Jae: don't they don't fly like a plane where you can get quite slow stall speeds and things like that
[3666.66] Jae: so if you want to do fixed wing just learn on a simulator and then you'll pretty much
[3671.54] Jae: got the skills and maybe just borrow someone's trainer plane Sheldon if he's around ever and
[3676.98] Jae: have a go on a train a trainer plane which is a high wing with a dihedral uh angle in the wing
[3683.86] John: and they'll fly themselves yeah like a peter or something or big slow what do they call them
[3688.74] John: yeah yeah those are quite common uh fpv planes the big slow and let you know when they're a
[3695.86] Jae: pusher prop as well the front nose is foam they handle crashes so well and that's the
[3701.14] Jae: other thing with a wing you could just get a wing and fly a wing it's just sometimes when
[3705.94] Jae: you're not used to uh aerodynamics a plane is a bit more forgiving yeah it's a good learning point
[3713.54] John: is having a having a stabilizer and you know that said um elevons remove they they they take
[3722.9] John: some of the the complexity of flying with a rudder and an elevator out as well so there's
[3728.02] John: a simplification in the way the thing flies in that it's a detail as well but you can't get
[3735.46] Jae: that crosswind flying so yeah but then that way they are very different so yeah yeah i in fact i
[3743.62] Jae: can't watch this john oh yeah i'm i'm sure everyone can have a go but when it's in pieces
[3749.62] John: or when it's still in one piece no it's not it's not the same as a quad isn't is it is it i mean i
[3754.82] John: mean uh simon lets me fly um one of his trainer his foamy trainers and they super easy and the
[3762.18] John: thing about it is that he's um he's he's quite uh well geared in the in the world of spectrum
[3769.06] John: so he um he understands how to set up a a buddy box and things like that and when you've got an
[3776.5] John: experienced pilot like him along a buddy boxing for you it's pretty safe you know what i mean
[3784.12] Jae: yeah it's dark art setting up buddy boxes yeah it is yeah clinton you're gonna get a plane that
[3791.16] Jae: you'll get you to build it in a wing or something or a plane we'll get you to build it in an hour
[3798.36] Clint: i would like to it's it's definitely on my list of things to do um we've been talking about
[3805.24] Clint: saying i was i do the first thing on my list at the moment is is a tiny work i i really really
[3811.48] Clint: want one of those and it's hard to justify buying all of these things at the same time so
[3817.32] Clint: highly work is next on the list and then followed shortly by uh by a fixed wing i think i must admit
[3823.48] John: i don't fly my tiny whip enough and i've got an awesome tree out the back um i mean it's a
[3828.92] John: walnut tree that's probably about 50 meters tall and they've just 30 reduced the canopy so it's
[3835.0] John: quite open there's a lot of gaps through it and i can have so much fun in there but i just don't
[3839.4] John: you know you don't think of it and then when you do think of it um you've got to charge the
[3843.24] John: batteries which only last for a minute but it's still a great little thing uh i'll definitely
[3848.2] John: having you having spoken about it now i'll definitely be freaking them recharging the
[3851.8] Clint: batteries but it's when you it's when you get cravings as well isn't it you get that craving
[3855.24] Clint: it's like i need to fly i want to fly and i will fly now and it's dark outside yeah grab it go
[3860.36] Clint: you know like and i know you could do that with the qx's and and stuff like that but
[3864.04] John: the same yeah just start around your wife and annoy her to hell
[3868.36] Clint: oh i don't don't even start i literally the amount of times that she's had to
[3872.28] Clint: to cut out chunks of her hair where she's got my quad stuck in it
[3877.56] Clint: she's not not not not not amused so cool we have a time award
[3884.44] Jae: to uh finish up with time i think we should call it a night but thanks to everyone for tuning in
[3888.92] Jae: thanks to also for our monthly sponsor from fossil stuff who pays through patreon if you
[3894.2] Jae: want to support this channel and support what we try and do each week yeah feel free to give
[3898.84] Jae: but thanks john for coming on it's always a pleasure to have you on the show
[3903.48] Jae: playing in rocket league thanks clinton for so joining me and you have been listening to
[3908.76] Jae: let's turn out it's been fun it has been fun yeah
