"Voice of Doom" Robinson Total audience: 189 Platforms: YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q84nLSG6zPE) ===================================== Guest; Dom Robinson; https://www.youtube.com/user/d2consulting (Ideas) (Hidden Valley) (Mini Airshow) (All round Great Guy) [0.0] Frank: 101 we're over a hundred episodes non-stop every week about an hour or so we've managed it but [10.56] Frank: jack hasn't made it this week it's me and it's tony home star one how you doing tony yeah i'm [18.24] Frank: all right not enjoying the weather no it's a bit a bit rubbish isn't it it's very rubbish you know [26.32] Frank: it's just uh time to get the practice in for later in the year what you know indoors you mean [34.88] Frank: yeah time to get the groups out uh velocidrone or the simulators [42.72] Tony: i mean all that kind of stuff actually i haven't played any sims at all i've just never downloaded [50.0] Frank: any any sims or anything no i mean either i've installed them and i've never played them that's [56.88] Frank: my problem i'm like i will do that at some point and i'm like i have many drones to fix i won't get [62.4] Tony: around to it i haven't i've got to do that yeah um but i've got two i've got uh some small quads [69.44] Tony: now so i've got some indoor stuff yeah which is good i've got uh dan upton's little um quad which [79.36] Tony: is probably my best flying quad now um but that's a brush or brushless and then i've got a tiny [89.84] Frank: woop now but i do want the uh the brushless tiny woop the the pepper fish have you seen the video [100.32] Frank: of the pepper fish there's like a little woop sized brushless one um called the yeah pepper fish with [107.84] Frank: the one with the eye of the fish being a one there's video of it flying around with a xiaomi [114.72] Frank: yi camera just strapped under it so it's like a 35 gram quad holding a 70 gram gopro well what is [122.48] Frank: it fopro um is that one that's impressive i mean it lasted about 30 seconds and then that's the [131.12] Frank: battery gun but still it's doable shows how much thrust it's got talking about frost hello mr [138.8] Tony: frost green patchy zero striker everyone in there ariel koala asks uh who's watching whilst repairing [146.72] Frank: a drone uh i currently have a drone in pieces in front of me so i should uh i was like i can [153.92] Frank: be on ldo and fix a quiz at the same time it's not going to happen i can tell you that but i've [160.4] Tony: just done some soldering um i bought one of them new ist chargers oh yeah yeah i've got one of them [169.2] Tony: in the posts i've just got i got it today um i went i didn't like when you take your rucksack out [178.0] Tony: and stuff it's like putting your charger from home in it it's just too big and cumbersome and [184.4] Tony: then you have to go and find the other leads and stuff like that you know without the power cord [188.72] Tony: so i just bought one of them can plug my 16 000 milliamp hour battery into the side [196.08] Tony: so i've just wired up a parallel board as well so i can like do yeah i think i've got the 300 watt [202.56] Frank: one which is 14 amps it can do and i've just bought as well with the isdd t the sc 608 the tiny one [212.08] Frank: 150 watt or something yeah um yeah i got a 10 000 milliamp hour 4s the multistar one [220.88] Frank: yeah that was like the biggest one it's like because that's pretty much exactly 150 watt hours [227.28] Frank: so it's the biggest one you're allowed to take on a plane without getting in trouble i don't know [233.36] Tony: well that's good news because i've got one of them as well i was gonna put my 16 000 and the 10 000 [239.36] Tony: together but i probably won't now you said that if you're allowed to take that abroad yeah i think [246.24] Frank: the 10 000 milliamp hour 4s i think that's the limit you can take on it's still like a house brick [253.6] Frank: yeah i mean having seen someone who's got one and be like you're allowed to hold that i mean that [259.92] Frank: looks like a it's a brick it's a brick size is you're gonna blow something up if that goes wrong [267.52] Tony: i watched a youtube video on where lithium is i thought you you get um oh it's jack he's made it [277.52] Tony: it's jack he's made jack there he is he's not real blessing are you feeling bad mate [284.88] Jack: no i want eight tablets a day oh man tony was right do you know i mean steroids are not i [293.68] Jack: can end up now from taking them like of course i'm going to feel great i'm high off steroids [302.56] Tony: just watch your bloods on steroids that's all i can say just keep checking your blood because [307.04] Tony: steroid induced diabetes is not a fun thing i'm glad you're here and you're um you're taught [314.0] Jack: you can talk for a little while yeah man like the stuff i coughed up it was it took every fiber [323.12] Jack: of my body not to send photos of what came out of me [328.4] Tony: i know i would have been the first one to bloody get them i know i would no no you weren't actually [333.68] Jack: someone someone we both someone we both know who who um sells you propellers the three of them [344.64] Jack: oh no no so tony's a sort of bloke who if he wasn't a vegan would buy a topic bar without any [352.16] Jack: nuts in it yeah just be my mark wouldn't it that's a yeah that's a red dwarf quote [363.04] Jack: go on you carry on had two phone calls last night one from dan upton always a pleasure yeah [369.6] Jack: and one from those two little gits who worked for antac sounds like [377.12] Tony: i had at 12 o'clock looked over half asleep and see it was uh simon bradley ringing me and i [384.64] Tony: chose to ignore it because it was golden 12 i thought i'm not answering that and i had a lovely [389.6] Tony: voice message from them this morning so yeah cheers cheers brothers and gary i know nothing [396.32] Jack: quite like when you're like contemplating whether to go to a&e or not having phone calls from those [402.08] Jack: guys calling you the c-word so well we were we were in a c-word chat uh so how you doing frank [412.48] Jack: we are soldering we are we are ruining your life man i thank you so much for like [420.32] Jack: arranging the stream hosting i feel like there's no lag i don't think um you don't have to deal [427.84] Frank: with anything we have the the ldgo theme tune on for a little bit in the background [435.68] Tony: yeah i think i think he needs to host it all the time this is the problem i shouldn't do things [443.12] Frank: well if i do things well i get asked to do them again yeah there is that the thing is you're [448.32] Jack: confident and you care yes i cannot be trusted [454.88] Jack: oh did um did you see you go oh we're like do you want to go on tv and talk about the [462.56] Jack: upcoming drone stuff and i was just like i say fuck way too much yeah could you imagine [471.04] Jack: yeah um so what are you trying to get all your stuff ready for goggle fest [476.0] Frank: no good professors last weekend uh what's this weekend this weekend uh going down to [484.4] Frank: Falmouth with a couple of mates or towards there that's that ultimate goal anyway um [491.2] Jack: Falmouth that's my way what no it's not oh no that's Falmouth [502.72] Jack: i just realized what i said yes trill trill's eaten up oh dear [514.32] Jack: don't just don't ask me anything i can't be trusted no the moment fix all your things andy [520.4] Frank: yeah i'm trying i'm sorry i'm sure uh there we go i'm sure i put some of these [525.68] Frank: jumping leads somewhere there we go [530.32] Jack: oh clega i know clega well spotted original ps1 right next to an oscilloscope [538.08] Jack: this is like my birthday present are you trying to well that's that's the plan we're gonna [548.08] Jack: you're just hacking stuff vectors yeah it has it's got x and y i could vexoscope it could listen [556.8] Jack: to and watch all the pictures and everything i'm so excited like i don't think sheldon realizes how [563.04] Jack: much i'm like sheldon makes my life better he's like one of these very rare people like i've got [570.24] Jack: a few of you now whereas before i really did want to shoot myself in the head but um don't [577.2] Jack: in a weird way tony is one of these people who makes my life better because like [581.36] Jack: as soon as like i get my quad stuck in a tree or i lose my gopro he does actually come down [586.56] Jack: and help me that day before it rains yeah got to get to equally he's like it's been three months [593.04] Jack: why would you built my quad i'm like or nag me like it will be like 2 a.m on a tuesday he'll [598.72] Jack: text me and be like why haven't you uploaded a show so he'll be like i'm dying and he'll be like [605.12] Jack: well what are you doing yeah i know like he comes down drives down pokes me the stick [611.68] Tony: busted well mr frost says he can't hear anyone you need to turn the volume up mate i think [618.56] Tony: everyone else can hear us can you not curry kittens in the chat what's up we just talked [623.36] Tony: about the ps1 on the floor i think we down baby boys in green patches here we are [631.6] Frank: when are we going to expect um the uh live streaming of the zoom radio ps1 games yeah [640.0] Jack: and your tiny right i'll i'll be i'll be honest with you um frank yeah you know like you sent me [645.52] Jack: all those links yeah like they were they were in a different chat and i closed the window [655.18] Jack: oh i haven't ordered the one because i can't find the eight pound version that you found [660.86] Jack: oh well um i know so like it's all me um the ps the ps1 is basically there's something called [669.18] Jack: open source um the arduino code they found the you back in the olden days i've already mentioned [676.3] Jack: this once already so i'm sorry if anyone keeps hearing it is um there was uh you'd get chipped [683.74] Jack: playstations and you you'd go to see someone and they chip your playstation it you could [691.5] Jack: play pirate pirate games but i want to do it so that i can play homebrew games [696.78] Jack: and international games like hang on i'll i'll grab one hang on welcome to uh [706.29] Tony: it's not let's let's game out let's game on i know i know i'm sorry [711.81] Frank: all right so this is what we do in in the uk because the weather you know even though it's [719.17] Frank: like beginning of august i look out [722.29] Frank: i'd nag these are blowing all over the place [726.69] Tony: rain is horrible i nagged jack for three weeks to build my french quarter and i'll pick it out [732.69] Tony: for five minutes because it's just been god damn it i was like i can hear a loop and it's [741.09] Jack: fucking me sorry this is um this is how i can't be trusted i'm not no comment there jack [748.85] Jack: so this is final fantasy seven one of the best games ever never completed it [753.17] Jack: because i can't do the roller coaster bit on the um uh the golden saucer if anyone knows or even [761.65] Jack: cares um i spill lens cleaning fluid so this is the state of my bookler it looks like one of the [770.93] Jack: magazines that tony had when he was a teenager i mean it it doesn't open or bend very well [779.97] Jack: thanks jack so i need to buy another one um it's going to be a lot more than 14 quid [787.81] Jack: um but this is the japanese version i imported look how beautiful look at their discs [796.85] Frank: look uh you're offering to get some custom velocidrone discs mate made them [805.65] Jack: yeah there's like color manuals the manuals are in color it's beautiful obviously i won't be able [813.01] Jack: to understand a word of this but like you know yeah you know i just like sick i mean i i've [822.21] Jack: paid my dues to society trying to teach tony how to soldier do you know what i mean so i've done [826.77] Tony: some soldering tonight you'll be i have you know of what uh i've got a new ist charger is that what [838.53] Tony: they call ist you know ist the field little field charger um and i had to put a xd 60 on the end of [849.49] Tony: it so i could charge in the field uh because i wanted to use a parallel charger in the field so [855.33] Tony: i could charge like six batteries off my big battery so i managed that thank you very much [863.3] Jack: so there's a perfect guide disc but it's in ntsc so that's kind of why i'm doing it [869.94] Tony: why this game this is how you do it what's the point i don't know that's stupid [876.98] Tony: i don't know i want to know what it is there's dom hopefully dom will bring us back to drone [884.1] Tony: drones please don't it's electronic we don't have to [889.46] Jack: soak it and do you want to come back on we'll send you we'll send you the link if you want [894.02] Jack: message me and i will email it to you because we love talking to you and it was beautiful because [898.82] Jack: like after you're after we had you on you got like really sort of um yeah a little bit of solid [904.66] Jack: clicker so yeah uh you know a bit bigger and spunk to you man it was beautiful it's like i'm [911.22] Jack: loving your content i was addicted man i got milky solids milky solids no that was good [918.02] Frank: oh space station yeah so how are you doing then dom oh man you don't want to know [925.54] Dom: sorry i'm having to multitask here i'm going to try and [928.5] Dom: give me something where are we eat and drink beer all at the same time [933.86] Dom: and breathe a bit like that breathing's an option man i'm not sure about that one [940.18] Dom: how you doing anyway can you hear me all right yeah perfect good good good good oh dear oh dear [946.26] Frank: how have we all been well we're you know struggling with the weather but [950.9] Dom: running god damn it avoiding the rain yeah more indoor flying parks much needed [958.98] Dom: maybe if we go for this planning permission for hidden value we should just apply for a hanger [963.38] Frank: well um it might be worth going up to see the bmfa buckminster site at some point because they've [968.58] Frank: got a really nice indoor space that's going to be used for indoor flying um for the i have it on [977.94] Frank: good authority for the bfpvra british championships which will be announced sometime soon [984.26] Frank: so that sounds like fun yes it's like festivals everyone needs an indoor site yeah so that's [991.14] Frank: what they you know a goggle fest i think was kind of the the trial for that for that and it seems to [997.54] Frank: be a really nice place to fly that everyone that went so it was a really nice [1000.98] Frank: pretty nice place to go and fly something so up north ish that'll be where to go fly um [1010.5] Frank: pretty much any time you want so it's kind of along the hidden valley lines [1015.14] Tony: that the bmfa have set something up um cool we got any more news on hv dom yeah a little bit [1024.5] Dom: some pieces um so um it's been a bit of a roller coaster as you probably saw we're [1031.38] Dom: oh look at that sager you're gonna make it fly jack [1037.7] Jack: oh no it's 16 fair boy yeah i'm sure look at this eight bit bad boy so make it fly [1046.26] Jack: oh mate it's got a linear otherwise you're off topic i know look at it you've just attached [1053.38] Jack: it looks like one of those like roller hovers nine volt he used to run off nine volts [1062.9] Tony: back in the day when they had nine volts huh yeah he's showing her age now [1067.62] Jack: rf out so it's got an rf generator so if you attach an amplifier to this andrew [1074.1] Jack: could i then transmit sonic the hedgehog analog tv to all my neighbors [1084.96] Jack: on a dedicated channel that'd be so funny sorry analog twitch is that what you're going for [1092.4] Dom: yeah analog twitch i'm just going to go back to my curry from [1097.04] Tony: yeah you eat your curry dom tell us about hidden valley in a sec [1101.04] Dom: no come on what's up with hidden valley then i can eat my curry and chip in with city comments so [1107.52] Dom: so it's been a bit of a roller coaster as you know we've um we we we found uh that there were [1112.64] Dom: various people sort of trying to um raise the profile of the issue somewhat and uh perhaps um [1120.64] Dom: i don't know they were they were doing what they do uh and it was um it was yeah let's not let's [1126.72] Dom: not go there um but uh i didn't say anything i didn't say anything and it was a bit it was [1136.48] Dom: it certainly challenged me so i wrote a bit of a forthright letter which actually [1140.96] Dom: uh managed to get it printed in uh let me find it in full across their two pages of their newspaper [1153.6] Dom: which was fair enough it's lost your based on yeah i know it's because it's there we go it's [1159.6] Dom: looking for a thing that's around my neck that follows the cat that makes the camera follow me [1162.56] Dom: that is really clever i was just um wondering how that camera's moving on its own means i [1168.16] Dom: can wander around and i've got a little cameraman that i've nailed to the wall um so oh look at this [1178.56] Jack: tracking shots man awesome so you want to know me attached to a fucking boom that's all i get [1188.32] Dom: i just trained the cats well they're just sitting there with the [1191.6] Jack: but you have got the most beautiful cats ever i love them all they're so fluffy sorry so um so [1199.52] Dom: yeah so we basically we got that letter out and then uh they uh came back with a slightly um [1206.48] Dom: uh i don't know a response i think is the fair way to put it um to which i i i kind of went back [1214.88] Dom: with a fairly conciliatory look the point is not to get into a big fight here the point is to talk [1219.44] Dom: and to work out a way forward um we're actually you know you i think they'd kind of prejudged us [1225.44] Dom: there's a bunch of hooligans who are sticking a middle finger up to them and they've got a lot [1228.88] Jack: of facts wrong so once we put a lot of that stuff straight i'm not helping then i do [1238.24] Jack: when's the deadline for writing um the thing i've got right we reckon i reckon i'm away next week [1244.96] Dom: so i reckon by the time i get back i'll have an official um point where we can go and actually [1250.4] Dom: have a have a conversation with the planning authority and hopefully by then um all of the [1258.4] Dom: various powers that be who have any objections would have decided what the objections are and [1263.28] Dom: got their ducks in a row um and if they've got their ducks in a row then with any luck um we [1270.32] Dom: might actually be able to have a sensible conversation because that's been the hardest [1273.44] Dom: problem is everyone says oh you should be asking for permission but you know nobody the people who [1278.16] Dom: can give us permission to fly the caa and they give us permission to fly there well it's not [1282.16] Dom: explicit but it's implicit in what we're doing so it's all about access to the land and and running [1287.04] Dom: business on the land um something somebody somewhere has definitely had a b in their bonnet [1292.8] Dom: and they've um they seem to have pressed every single red button they could in every organization [1298.96] Dom: which really got on my nerves about the point where i wrote the letter because it had gone [1303.76] Dom: beyond us as hidden valley without any conversation with us it actually started targeting the farm [1308.96] Dom: itself and i i just think that was unfair um i i think at the end of the day um a piece of land [1315.76] Dom: like that people can fly wander through on the public ride away and fly um and they've kind of [1321.12] Dom: put the pressure pressure on the farm to police this and the farm as you all know the farm's [1326.24] Dom: stretched anyway it's it's it's a tough job and in many ways we were helping out by um by just [1333.28] Dom: simply being there uh we were extra eyes extra hands on occasion you know we i think we we look [1339.36] Dom: the last two years we were a very constructive addition to the landscape the um the real [1346.0] Dom: complication uh was was much more that somebody some way decided to press the technical buttons [1351.44] Dom: and where other people had sort of shrugged and gone well we don't know how to give you permission [1356.8] Dom: um who should do so um but but you know as long as no one's in complaints surely it's fine and [1362.56] Dom: basically somebody's somebody's got to be in there bonnet and made a complaint and what was [1368.48] Dom: most frustrating is this has all gone on without any direct interaction with us uh and uh and you [1374.08] Dom: know we i don't think that as an organization hidden valley could have done more outreach we [1379.6] Dom: tried to reach out to every single organization and stakeholder that we think might be affected [1384.8] Dom: uh to at least bring the discussion to ground and nobody anywhere produced a piece of paper saying [1389.6] Dom: permission to run a drone flying park uh because that sort of piece of paper just simply doesn't [1394.0] Dom: exist so and we knew we knew that going into it um and to to a certain extent being pragmatic i [1400.72] Dom: think we always expected that hidden valley would have an element of if somebody does find it [1406.4] Dom: challenging um then it there's a good likelihood that they'll um step they'll uh step in and make [1415.6] Dom: us a bit of a test case so it's not that we weren't ready for it but what i wasn't really [1420.48] Dom: ready for was being a test case without actually being at the involved in the discussion uh and [1426.72] Dom: that was a bit weird and then to be portrayed in the press a couple of weeks ago as if we were [1432.24] Dom: ignoring instructions to stop was it wasn't exactly accurate uh we hadn't received an [1438.0] Dom: instruction but we had stopped anyway there was some confusion because the mini air show went into [1442.8] Dom: a third year and obviously i'm personally identified with the mini air show but that's [1446.16] Dom: nothing to do with hidden valley it certainly wasn't this year there was you you might as well [1449.84] Jack: have had um you know property of mini air show tattooed on your butt cheek there's no way of [1456.72] Dom: getting away from it no exactly exactly so basically i understand the free sort of free [1461.92] Dom: association but as you know i didn't fly at the mini air show i was pretty careful to [1467.76] Dom: keep myself at arm's length had no access to the business if you like of this year's air show so [1473.52] Jack: you needed to visually tape your hands together yeah which was frustrating because quite honestly [1479.12] Dom: i'd like to have had a hack about you know that was a good opportunity to have a fly but and it's [1482.72] Tony: quite difficult watching everyone else have a fly does there no flying of any thing down there [1487.28] Dom: whatsoever at the moment there is a um there was a um i want to pick my words a bit carefully but [1493.76] Dom: there was a um fairly explicit direction from a group that we'd been talking to right at the [1501.12] Dom: beginning who were in the process of allowing it to operate on the farm there was a fairly explicit [1506.96] Dom: message from the people who do control the farm land and the relationship that it has with the [1513.36] Dom: farmer who basically on one point were drafting a an amendment to the agreement that for the farm [1521.68] Dom: to operate and allow us to operate and then a few weeks later were writing letters saying if a drone [1527.44] Dom: is seen operating on site will evict the farmer and so that was when i pulled the red flag and [1534.08] Dom: went right no guys you know how good the farm's been to us we can't ruin his livelihood for our [1539.44] Dom: hobby that would just be not right um so uh so we put out a red flag notice and it did seem that [1547.52] Dom: while we'd taken the login links and the uh and all the membership access and all the booking [1552.96] Dom: system down at the beginning i think it was the beginning of march or over march that was obvious [1559.6] Dom: to the community that using it you know you guys couldn't book um but we hadn't made a big public [1564.96] Dom: hoo-hah about that because frankly i didn't want you know we're on a nothing budget anyway [1570.32] Dom: and immediately passing rumor that we were in trouble and that we were closed and would then [1575.6] Dom: need undoing you know mud sticks pretty hard and once people go oh hidden valleys shut down they [1580.0] Dom: don't make it a destination to go fly so i was quite keen to keep it just amongst us that we [1588.88] Dom: were having this complication and just amongst the members because the members were already on [1592.32] Dom: board they were easy to communicate with because they were we were socially networks and on email [1597.68] Dom: and so on so forth so it's quite straightforward to make sure that the members knew what was going [1602.72] Dom: on but it seems that we didn't let the public know clearly enough that we we'd um chained [1607.12] Dom: ourselves in a box and not let things happen so the public thought we were carrying on operating [1612.08] Dom: and sticking a finger up to a notice which wasn't actually served to us but it was served to various [1618.32] Dom: other parties around us uh and uh and we heard about it so we voluntarily stopped uh because we [1625.04] Dom: didn't want to antagonize anything but obviously there's people out whoever is who's got a bee in [1629.76] Dom: them on it seems to to some extent want to be antagonized and when this notice came out in the [1636.96] Dom: next town and longs local newspaper it didn't sense me that that people were sort of trying [1643.12] Dom: to collect feedback from the public as to how disaster it was that these people were still [1648.32] Dom: operating their drones despite having been instructed to stop so would people write [1653.36] Dom: letters about it to them they didn't go so far as letters of complaint but you know it was strongly [1660.16] Dom: inferred i i felt so i i wrote a strong piece back which was that piece in the letter in the [1665.44] Dom: newspaper interestingly the only direct response we've had to that um was an extremely polite [1672.08] Dom: complaint and actually the the the one thing i'll say about that is uh oh sorry alongside [1679.2] Dom: several dozen letters of support um but the one thing i'll i'll say about that letter of complaint [1685.92] Dom: is i actually felt a bit thankful for it because i was beginning to feel i was suffering from some [1690.48] Dom: sort of delusional confirmation bias you know that actually the only media i see is mine the [1696.64] Dom: only people that talk to me are people who are believers in hidden valley so everyone wanted it [1700.32] Dom: to happen so what's this nonsense that you know nobody's complained but somebody seems to have [1706.32] Dom: trained the guns on us or what was nice is the complaint letter sort of speaking in terms of [1710.48] Dom: you know i like to get walked through there when it's tranquil drone racing sounds like a really [1714.48] Dom: good idea but can't you find somewhere else so i explained that that was a fair i really appreciated [1719.68] Dom: and fair and and polite considered bit of feedback made did explain in the letter why hidden valley [1726.64] Dom: was more of a happy accident as it had evolved there because of my personal relationship the [1730.64] Dom: farm and because of me being in the area to talk to various stakeholders not least also because [1736.64] Dom: it's a spectacular place to fly um but it had sort of happened there by accidents and for me to then [1742.72] Dom: take all the time that i've committed to start driving several tens of kilometers to another [1747.2] Dom: location um then just changes the whole metric i'd have had to go and befriend some new people [1752.96] Dom: build the relationship establish the operation raise the profile of it talk to the stakeholders [1758.16] Dom: in that area etc etc because it's near hidden valley is right on my doorstep it's been easy [1763.76] Dom: for me to at least network to the local second liaise liaise exactly with the local local [1771.6] Tony: community no drones i don't like it's or or anything flying well like what about things [1780.08] Dom: so it's a no no flying policy at the moment um now it's not it's not a policy [1786.72] Dom: it's um it's it's it's basically hinged on the fact that um in my understanding of the law [1796.16] Dom: you can fly there but in practice if you do fly there what's going to happen is the planning [1803.04] Dom: process is going to view that in a dim light and the people who can uh formally allow the [1811.84] Dom: farm to allow us to operate uh will uh can get to us not by stopping us flying but by [1820.96] Dom: attacking the farm and then uh attacking us for planning contravention and so on so it's it's [1828.08] Dom: complicated so essentially i'm asking you to not fly there because it's a favor to hidden valley [1832.72] Dom: and it's vitally important to the farm yeah that they don't get into any more trouble it does bring [1838.8] Dom: the question of the wider policy of flight on the on the downs so i'm going to segue a second i got [1845.2] Dom: contacted by vice magazine this week because they are filming in Sussex and they and the shop that [1851.36] Dom: they've taken from each of the academics that they've interviewed for this particular project [1856.48] Dom: they're doing has opened with a panning sort of zooming out shot of an academic that they're [1861.28] Dom: interviewing um and uh they had they were based in boston and they'd been ringing ahead desperately [1869.76] Dom: trying to find permission to fly in the southeast so that they could pick this academic up for one [1875.6] Dom: of the local universities and do this opening shop for their their documentary um and they had [1882.4] Dom: contacted um well they contacted the national trust first of all who told them not just that [1889.28] Dom: there's no cross property but there was no flying on the south towns national parks no flying in the [1894.72] Jack: south towns at all no flying in the Brighton area no no speaking about flying no booking tickets to [1902.48] Dom: go fly out unless of course you're a commercial pilot who wants to pay them a stink load of money [1907.6] Dom: to give them some profile on the BBC documentary or something so um so basically i i explained the [1914.24] Dom: law to the documentary makers i showed them the the uh the uh the territory that the national [1922.08] Dom: trust trust actually has any dot jurisdiction over and it's important to understand they they do have [1926.56] Dom: a bylaw you can't legally fly on national trust properties um but their jurisdiction on the south [1933.04] Dom: towns in the area that we were looking at extends to the car park around uh around ditching beacon [1938.72] Dom: um and actually you know wider than that it's over to the south towns national park authority [1943.6] Dom: who themselves are as part of likewise of the national park authority don't yet have a fully [1949.28] Dom: formed drone policy in practical terms the more we wind them up the more they will head towards [1957.44] Dom: finding the budget to get a bylaw put into the national park authority for sure i can see that [1963.28] Dom: there is there has definitely been some faction that has caused the strength of reaction against [1970.0] Dom: hidden valley who um who are politically motivated and do have the wherewithal to go and [1976.88] Dom: start the process of creating a bylaw um now a bylaw would be far reaching for us um it would [1984.64] Dom: once the process of putting that bylaw in place has gone through then other organisations will [1990.16] Dom: be able to copy it as well so um so i you know while the it's all very convoluted but they're [1998.8] Dom: getting us on planning commission because we're a commercial operation which they they feel is [2003.04] Dom: operate well they feel is operating where it needs planning permission we often flying uh [2011.84] Tony: thing on the national trust just up the road isn't there uh yeah well saddlescomb which is a bmfa [2017.92] Dom: site which is the other side of brighten um sits within a national trust area but it itself i don't [2024.0] Dom: believe is national trust property okay so it's kind of it's surround as far as i can work out [2029.2] Dom: it's surrounded i've never quite worked that out but also if you go go over to their flying site [2033.04] Dom: it's uh i haven't flown there i hasten to add but it looks about the size of a cricket pitch [2038.24] Dom: um so it's a very different thing to what we're trying to do with hidden valley now [2044.24] Dom: hidden valley itself is a big area and we are overflying other places and you know where where [2048.88] Dom: the storm all started was where we started to talk to um to understand whether we could open [2054.96] Dom: up a wider um territory and actually overfly the sssi and the caa are happy for us to do so and [2061.44] Dom: that actually have the jurisdiction where we might want to fly but there are sensitivities [2065.76] Dom: there um and the stakeholders who manage the nature reserves and the sssis are important [2069.68] Dom: people to win over and we spent a few months engaging with them and we've actually got [2073.6] Dom: written correspondence that they're very happy with the way we operate and they think we're very [2077.2] Dom: responsible um that's not a yes you can fly over there but that is a we're not concerned about it at [2084.4] Dom: the moment yeah so um so it's interesting that it got to litigational technicalities [2092.64] Dom: rather than a straightforward out and out we don't like drones don't fly them um this is [2099.84] Jack: can we make our own bylaws so you have to fly somewhere [2104.32] Dom: it's like a little it's mandatory not to touch the ground yes yeah sorry yeah no i mean i think i [2112.24] Dom: think it would be good it would be good in my books if hidden valley can um ring fence itself [2120.08] Dom: and can form a model on which policy is formed rather than be the target of shutdown based policy [2128.0] Dom: that that in my books is the ideal at the moment so uh we're prepared for that discussion and [2133.44] Dom: i sense a softening all around now that people have actually talked to us and realized that [2137.84] Dom: i'm an articulate bastard and i'll i'll uh i'll engage with them on whatever level they want to [2144.0] Dom: but if they if they do want me to snarl i will snarl and i'll do it really publicly [2149.84] Dom: but they also have to realize that just by being a drone fly we aren't the enemy [2153.92] Dom: you know and uh and it's really important that we don't um paint ourselves into a corner [2159.44] Jack: i think i think that people have been respectful you know i mean i asked the phone to tony [2166.64] Tony: and we go in the middle of nowhere do you know what i mean it's not as if we're [2170.08] Jack: dive bombing the high street or ever anything like that tony hasn't fired bombed one person he just [2176.48] Dom: like yeah that's a whole summer of trying to fly through helicopter windows that we've [2182.8] Jack: missed in our training this year but that's why tony puts up no tans deliberately deliberately [2190.24] Dom: to dogfight with them excellent well with my flying i need to put up no tans but anyway um [2198.64] Dom: so yeah i i think the uh there is always going to be somebody that uses a piece of land and [2204.88] Dom: if we suddenly descend in there and start flying that's going to be a change for them [2210.16] Dom: and that enters the world of change of use um i would argue that we change the use for takeoff [2217.6] Dom: but once we're in the air we haven't changed anything the air is still being used for air [2221.12] Dom: traffic and the ground is still being used for whatever's going on the ground so um so but the [2227.52] Dom: but the problem is there'll always be some litigation which then says oh yeah but it's [2230.64] Dom: cars going down there oh oh yeah it's people standing still for a long time or you know i [2235.36] Dom: could i could see it's people it feels loitering on loitering or meant to be articulate i i joke [2243.04] Dom: but i mean it takes me back to the early 90s in the rave scene when you know congregations of [2248.56] Dom: of people were were they were trying to prevent congregations of people and and put that into [2253.36] Dom: litigation as a method to stop raves and actually those laws still linger around in the background [2259.52] Dom: and i'm sure you could probably use the same laws that you shut down a rave to shut down a drone [2264.24] Dom: race i'm sure it's almost identical in in real legal terms no more than three people to be stood [2270.96] Dom: next to each other exactly and and whatever no electronics that make noise either so it's [2277.12] Dom: difficult i think the problem is that the same people who are driving the litigation are wearing [2281.76] Dom: the banner of trying to encourage young people to use the use the outdoors and get out and um [2288.0] Dom: you know looking at looking at the group on this uh on this hangout certainly probably with one [2293.52] Dom: exception i think that four out of the five of us probably hadn't been for a country walk for about [2298.16] Dom: four years before we started flying drones so you know i think uh i think there is a real argument [2305.52] Dom: that drones are actually getting people out and about again and getting they are it took a lot of [2310.16] Jack: negotiations with the um the elderly retirement home to get tony out [2321.92] Jack: well that's it yeah but um yeah you know crack jack suddenly feeling better drugs are kicking in [2330.8] Jack: mate i do feel a bit fucking space cowboy oh have you got the head cold [2335.2] Jack: oh mate i've had a i've had infection and i'm on do you know why it is it's because you've not [2340.32] Dom: been out you've been in that bedroom unable to go to hidden bags i know playing with it will be [2346.32] Dom: 30 year old electronics that's what we need young people need to get out and away from their [2351.36] Dom: computers no i know we say on the computer sharing it on facebook that's a bit andrew [2358.96] Dom: andrew um so i've got a question for you guys what are you i got called up by drone mag this [2366.08] Dom: week um they like picking on me for regulation things i think it's because i i like long words [2371.12] Dom: but um they ran me to ask about what i thought of the um sort of uh regulation update that was out [2378.72] Dom: was it a week ago ten days ago yeah about that um and uh i think that reasonably surprised [2388.56] Dom: mark my own view just to sort of see the discussions i actually don't have any problem [2392.88] Dom: with drone flyers registering i have a real problem with drones being registered [2399.12] Jack: i don't want to be on some sort of pervert list [2402.64] Dom: well try to stay off them then jack but i don't mind being on the drone fly register [2407.36] Frank: that's what it feels like though yeah my concern with it is that there's going to be this list of [2413.52] Frank: people who've registered as drone pilots and then whenever a drone is spotted doing something [2419.6] Frank: they shouldn't do that they go on the list and go oh who's the nearest person to that [2424.72] Frank: and then go master binim have you been flying can you prove where you were at this time [2430.96] Tony: i don't really want that every weekend to be honest and the people who are going to be [2435.36] Tony: known to be the people that aren't going to register yeah you know what i mean [2443.92] Dom: i think the only outside to you know i don't you know i don't mind don't encourage the job [2450.56] Dom: i'm just trying to find a bit of a pragmatic middle ground because sometimes it sucks a lot [2454.8] Dom: of wind out of their sails if they realize that they haven't got a fight but um you know from my [2459.92] Dom: point of view i've never had a problem with having insurance i think that's a good thing [2463.6] Dom: uh that's as good as a register anyway um it might not be publicly accessible immediately but [2468.8] Dom: uh a freedom of information or data protection and process come short and elicit data from [2474.88] Dom: insurance companies if there's a police warrant involved um i don't have a direct objection to [2480.88] Dom: going down to the post office and registering myself as a model flyer um and doing that on [2485.76] Dom: a periodic basis if that then is a a gate that needs to be ticked for me to get insurance and [2490.96] Dom: if it's between me the register and the insurance company i agree with you and you i don't think [2495.52] Dom: that's something that should be freely uh free something that can be freely interrogated um in [2502.4] Dom: terms of whether that solves a problem if a drone is then flown through you know a greenhouse or [2507.28] Dom: worse into a jet jet engine um i think uh you know there is an argument for you've registered [2517.04] Dom: here's a dozen other stickers with your registration number on it [2520.8] Dom: if you want to stick them on your models that valid that will validate your insurance [2525.44] Dom: um but i think i think registering the drones is lunacy that that's just that that is for people [2530.64] Tony: who think that the drone market everyone like i've got 15 drones that's what i'm saying i think [2537.04] Dom: it's an optional thing i think if you want to put it on there um it's it's a way of uh a return to [2544.4] Dom: return to sender if you lose it but b i think it's also a way to uh for the insurance company [2551.6] Dom: to say well look you know he's identified himself uh we are going to pay out and i think there should [2556.16] Dom: be a uh i think that if it was possible i think it would be good if then there is a an increased [2562.8] Dom: likelihood that any insurance claim would be paid out cleanly um but you know i i think registering [2569.68] Dom: the drones is just nuts i think it's it's a it's a regulatory point that's failed in the states in [2574.24] Dom: many ways yeah and i think it's i think it's nonsense so don right let's let's let's do a [2582.72] Jack: bit of role play because like i know you're into that you got a couple of kids um i'll find my [2588.56] Dom: strap on golf ball where is it oh not that sort of role play sorry jack yeah yeah um i'm a criminal [2598.48] Jack: dom i have somehow publicly i thought this was role play yeah right i have somehow uh you know [2610.96] Jack: publicly or illegally um uh found out that tony is registered join pilot [2621.12] Jack: role playing tony oh okay yeah hi yeah tony is a legal registered drone pilot and i am a criminal [2629.68] Jack: so what i do is i then scope tony's house i steal one of his drones [2638.56] Jack: like or get his id number by coming friends that's easier yeah easier whatever whatever [2649.92] Jack: method i get it i get a drone i attach it to it then i throw it at my or someone else's car [2658.16] Jack: someone else's car andrew's car me and andrew are criminals together and um but you know no direct [2666.08] Jack: i throw tony's drone at his car and then that way andrew is then able to take that as evidence and [2674.4] Jack: then pursue because essentially what's happening is it's giving tony might as well just get [2681.84] Jack: a bit of paper right feel free to sue me here's my insurance policy here's 20 quid as well [2688.72] Jack: attach it to a balloon and then let go of it i know what you mean and then whoever finds [2696.16] Jack: it gets to have their vicious way with tony's butthole all right i mean putting my putting my [2702.16] Dom: being a pain in the ass to the lawyer's hat on that's just the same as somebody popping [2705.6] Dom: around to my house stealing my car and then going driving it through a shop window [2710.48] Dom: yeah yeah but logistically there's criminal intent there's there's there's where was tony [2717.44] Dom: there's all sorts of things it does put an onus of responsibility on tony to prove his innocence [2722.64] Frank: i think maybe the bigger problem would be i mean at the moment someone steals a number plate or makes [2728.48] Frank: a fake number plate that matches up with someone else's registration number they put it on their [2733.6] Frank: car go commit a crime that gets reported if as long as they check what the you know what the make [2742.08] Frank: a model of color and everything of the car was they can see the vin and all that like oh it doesn't [2748.88] Tony: match up somewhere but if it's just a bit of sellotape stuck on to the side of a cord [2756.24] Frank: it's not going to be recorded as being a phantom or but i think the um okay it'll be forged by [2763.12] Dom: some some mastermind who's really determined to go and do an insurance claim on a car but [2767.44] Dom: i think you could quite easily produce a serial number uh on the um on the judge i think the other [2773.28] Dom: key thing to bear in mind is i think the that reading that government report a couple of weeks [2779.92] Dom: ago vastly overestimates the um the real value of the market yeah there's gonna be one guy who in [2790.88] Dom: two years time is going to be fine working for the dti or whoever sets this registration process up [2797.04] Dom: there's going to be one guy who's going to be fighting to justify his job in two years time [2800.88] Dom: if he's if he's appointed there's just not enough money you know i know for a fact that [2805.84] Dom: um okay the bmfa is quite a large organization and it's quite it's got quite a lot of heritage [2811.92] Dom: it's probably been bequeathed quite a bit of money it's probably got some land that's that's making [2816.08] Dom: it money and so on and so forth there are smaller organizations um and they don't turn over anywhere [2821.6] Dom: near enough money to have a full-time staff um and you know even some of the insurance companies [2828.48] Dom: that just don't have enough money to have a full-time bum on the seat going out promoting all the [2832.56] Dom: good that that insurance company does so the dti can go and appoint a 60 gram civil servant to sit [2839.2] Dom: and start is dashing out stickers and running training courses and so on but after a while [2845.36] Dom: they'll be down to one training course a year that's in the middle of the country that nobody [2848.72] Dom: can afford to get to um or there'll be an online registration service which is just made a mockery [2854.4] Dom: of by a bunch of hackers you just find out every possible way to fiddle it hopefully brad [2859.52] Frank: has been doing i was going to say with the fpv community that seemed pretty likely and knowing [2864.88] Dom: the knowing the it guy knowing the it guy's his service contracts into the dti it's going to cost [2869.68] Dom: you way more than 50 60 80 grand a year to build set up and build a secure well-managed drone [2878.16] Dom: registration database um so you know better to have a guy with a pen and paper if you're going [2883.04] Dom: to do something practical but hidden valley you know we we had several hundred flights um over [2889.84] Dom: the years but we weren't into triple figures with members no it wouldn't pay it's never paid [2896.24] Dom: anything for my time if i included my time to it it would go bust in about a minute [2903.68] Dom: so i think there's a real overestimation estimation of the of the value that the [2909.04] Dom: government will see back if they do implement that sort of policy because the return will be [2914.96] Dom: oh shit no still means that nobody's flown on into a jet engine we've spent however many tens of [2920.8] Dom: hundreds of thousands maybe millions of pounds setting up this platform promoting it and guess [2925.76] Tony: what the impact is nothing they're doing it because um they need to be seen to be doing [2931.12] Jack: it for the regulation for regulations sake yeah well i mean sooner or later drones are going to [2936.32] Jack: be i'm sorry to tell everyone drones are going to be old news do you know what i mean they're going [2941.6] Jack: to be like oh bloody you know they're not they're not apple like they don't do you know what i mean [2947.76] Jack: like there's so many different things you can do with a with a computer do you know what i mean so [2952.8] Jack: many different avenues you can go go down and create and stuff what do you get out of a drone [2959.92] Jack: aerial shots photography you know like being yeah and and like yeah not even the ledger sort [2970.48] Jack: of thing do you know what i mean it's um but that's the main don't you be wrong there'll [2975.6] Jack: be other reasons and there'll be other stuff but eventually drones will be just viewed as like [2982.24] Jack: a video camera that that flies do you know what i mean like the home movie do you know what i [2988.16] Jack: mean it's like your dad wearing shorts and socks and sandals and recording they'll be they'll be [2995.2] Dom: they'll they'll they'll get look back on like a fidgets spinner or a selfie stick you know [2999.68] Dom: there'll be a fan yeah this is a bigger one it's had it has had some industrial relevance [3005.04] Jack: but i'm sure more people being hurt with selfie sticks is that selfie sticks are banned on um [3011.6] Jack: on like the uh i360 oh yeah are they yeah so you're not leaving i can take my drone on there [3019.68] Dom: i can't take a selfie stick yeah no i mean it's got you know i think there was a sort of period [3029.04] Dom: where the new the kind of new key schisms indicate technology's capability were appearing [3034.88] Dom: every couple of months um but you know i'm no longer waiting for the news watching the news [3041.68] Dom: intently for somebody to pop up saying drone does heart surgery or you know shit like that it's just [3047.28] Dom: not it's i don't think it's really going that way and i think it's past its um initial hype [3054.32] Dom: and now it's bedding in for its real stuff uh and i think for that reason part of its real [3060.08] Dom: stuff is is hobby flying and uh i just think it's wrong to be hounding hobbyists or at least [3066.48] Tony: restricting them no because we're the people who are doing it right and the people don't [3070.8] Tony: want to do it right are the people that aren't going to register and do anything any of that [3074.72] Tony: anyway it's just going to be the i think they i think they should uh i think they would be quite [3081.92] Dom: good if somebody put in a request to the press complaints commission that there weren't any [3085.12] Dom: reports about drone misuse unless there was photographic evidence yeah i think it would make [3093.42] Dom: a bit of a pass the onus of responsibility back because the amount of crap news reports [3098.3] Dom: which just jump on the hyperbole you know plastic bags fruit bats uh you know unqualified tests by [3104.46] Dom: kinetic you know bloody hell when kinetic become an authority on something with results that they [3109.18] Dom: can't publish you know it's just paid for crap yeah and i know i've just said that about the [3115.02] Dom: very queue that is bombs q and they've probably got me bugged and they're going to have me [3118.46] Dom: terminated with crony to sign it don't believe his nipples exactly it's just looking at that [3125.1] Frank: report it did stink of like an intern's summer project that it was done by the guy who wrote [3131.5] Dom: the weapons of mass destruction dossier went on google and did it in 20 minutes and i happened [3137.26] Dom: to have his phone number in my mobile he's very good he's just a bit expensive [3147.12] Dom: there you go that silenced everyone [3151.92] Tony: is the rule what's coming in 250 grams with a battery or without a battery does anyone know [3160.62] Jack: it's going to be with you know it's going to be whole payload it's going to be battery included [3164.94] Tony: those batteries included yeah totally everything nursing's way so my my new three-inch [3172.54] Tony: what can do at least 50 mile an hour my new fossil stuff revo fridge [3177.9] Tony: does 50 mile an hour easy on four s and weighs less than 250 grams so what you do is you add [3183.98] Jack: spikes to it hypodermic needles infested with multiple diseases and if you can stick a grenade [3191.02] Jack: to it that should that should that should do it okay i'll do that then jack yep [3198.38] Dom: jack's lines suddenly going to go [3208.46] Dom: i mean the other thing is um i saw somebody ranting on about how they spent much of their [3213.42] Dom: 20s and 30s flying military helicopters around the the countryside uh like 20 foot off the ground [3219.34] Dom: and so on and so forth and quite frankly i do that does actually get my goat because i know [3224.22] Dom: we have to hold off a great illustrious defender of the realm the army up in high esteem but it [3230.22] Dom: does really piss me off that we're spending tens of millions of pounds flying helicopters around for [3234.7] Dom: fun and practice in a non-war time over non-war zones you know this is an airspace which shouldn't [3242.46] Dom: be shut down to the military into bowing this is an airspace that is our airspace as people [3248.3] Dom: the army and the civil service and the government are our employees through our taxes [3254.62] Dom: and uh i i think that you know given that our previous mp has just stopped flying a chinook [3260.3] Dom: in and out of our local helipad at white hawk uh because he's no longer got his role as an mp so [3266.14] Dom: he can't waste 10 000 pounds of flight getting in out of london on his mp's expenses i i feel [3272.14] Dom: quite strongly that the military are just having a laugh and i want to have a laugh too i think it's [3277.02] Dom: i think that it can't be very difficult to regulate military helicopters i think they're [3282.22] Dom: much more of a target for regulation than hobby drone flyers yeah but they have got numbers on [3288.7] Dom: the side total total waste of money having all that military shrapnel flying around here go and [3294.22] Dom: fly around over bloody you know syria or ukraine that's what you're supposed to be doing with them [3299.18] Dom: you don't drive a jcb around queen's park just because it's fun and it can move earth [3303.58] Dom: i gotta practice with this i'm gonna move the pond you know it's like you've got whales going [3311.58] Dom: for bloody flying your special designated area up there for your military training it it the idea [3318.06] Dom: that if there was a war zone declared i get that get your drones out the sky we might be flying [3323.66] Dom: tornadoes around protecting you cool but just training cadets or flying mp's around is not an [3330.46] Dom: excuse for wasting millions of pounds of taxpayers money on on military hardware and saying because [3336.78] Dom: military hardware might fly through the area we might um we might have to ban all everything else [3342.14] Dom: from using it you know tanks might roll down the center of brighten but we don't put bollards up [3347.5] Dom: all the time there was my there you go that was my impromptu rent what one swig of beer and i'm [3354.86] Jack: off on one i'm gonna mute my word it was like what's your what's your what's your little friend [3362.14] Jack: called the one who tried to pick a fight with me tt timmy yeah timmy yeah it was you know it was [3370.7] Jack: proper timmy mode right then so dom if you didn't know tony believes that yeah splat go i don't [3384.94] Tony: i thought we were having one night without bringing it up god's sake so you mean bringing [3391.9] Tony: it across answering any questions on the subject lizard people the answer look at the queen's [3399.34] Dom: eyes when she blinks that that's all i'm saying the KGB she always keeps her eyes shut when i'm [3405.98] Tony: on top of her dirty bitch that's what i said yeah no jack we're not going there this is not freaking [3418.54] Tony: UFO we're out but we could do one of
