He's on the phone. I know he's muted because he's on the phone. Say hello, Tony [22.73] Frank: Sup, please. I'm sorry [25.89] Frank: Menace RC [27.59] Jack: Hello [29.05] Jack: Greg who's clearly an alcoholic? [32.45] Jack: I've never told you cup of tea mate have a swing. It's all right. I'm on the red again. And Frank [46.75] Tony: Frank is not there anymore. I [49.57] Tony: Don't know what's going on tonight. We've got gremlins again. They wouldn't be let's turn out without them [55.47] Tony: No [56.73] Tony: It wouldn't you're really white Jack. Hey feeling [60.73] Jack: Not amazing they gave me a load of drugs [64.65] Jack: In my junkie arm. Look at it. I look like a junkie [68.77] Jack: I feel really weird [70.85] Jack: I'm definitely not all [73.29] Jack: There like more than usual [79.33] Jack: I'm [80.73] Jack: I wish we had someone to fill in [84.05] Jack: But yeah, I'm here. I know plus I was a little bit excited for [87.97] Jack: As well, I I've missed him a little menace. I remember [95.25] Jack: Where were we Greg? [97.53] Jack: Western Park. Yeah, that was it and I chat with him and Andy RC and a bit painless [103.57] Jack: Look at me name-dropping [106.73] Jack: Tone you are right. I am way white and I is that better [111.81] Tony: Yeah [114.17] Tony: I think it's just a lamp [116.65] Jack: No, I'm got the lamp on the lamps never on that's just a [121.49] Tony: I'm looking at you know, I sit here and look out my window now again the the [128.77] Tony: The Sun's going down in a different a [132.89] Tony: Different place dimension now, it's weird [136.81] Tony: anyway, man, it's RC [139.49] Jack: Yes [140.93] Tony: You're our guest tonight [142.09] Tony: So we should be talking to you not writing on about a lot of rubbish like we do [146.97] Tony: But this is their own out [149.29] Jack: Do you listen to any of the other episodes or do you just? [154.73] Jack: Have you only listened to the one you you're in? [158.81] Greg: Hey me [161.21] Greg: Me yeah, I've had a listen to a few of them, but yeah, maybe the one I was in. Yeah, sorry [168.85] Frank: I [170.93] Tony: Said quite a few listens actually, I think 700 and something on SoundCloud so not bad [177.17] Tony: Plus it's do it also on Apple iTunes. So there's probably more on that [184.89] Tony: Amazing which is it's pretty good fruit because it's such a niche market. We're all in anyway. It's not exactly [192.01] Tony: big at the moment [194.13] Jack: David [196.89] Tony: Getting bigger so [199.25] Tony: Sorry, we've got you've got some new stuff to talk about you want to talk about any of your new goodies because we like your old [205.65] Tony: Goodies, maybe you should talk about your old goodies now. So that's going first and then talk about your new goodies [210.37] Greg: Okay, we'll talk about that [213.33] Greg: so [215.13] Greg: yeah, we started out with the invader the patch and [220.61] Greg: That was it's I think it's coming up about a year old now the patch [226.57] Greg: and [228.57] Greg: It is just doing phenomenally. Well, I [232.69] Greg: Mean, it's a great. It's a great patch. I think most people have used it love it and [238.17] Greg: It's it's reaching out to a lot of places now around the world and it just seems to be every time I [246.77] Greg: baby [249.25] Greg: Yeah, you look on YouTube or something like that at a race or something and you just see these little [254.57] Greg: Menace and beta patches [256.61] Tony: It's amazing. Yeah, it must be cool seeing it all around the world. Oh [262.21] Greg: Absolutely. I still can't believe [264.93] Greg: That a little antenna like that has done so well in the FPV industry. I [270.69] Tony: Think it's because it works out. Well when the price is bloody good [276.65] Greg: Yeah, well, you know like like we said when I was on before it was it's always about [281.81] Greg: Making a good quality product at an affordable hobby price [287.41] Greg: You know [288.89] Greg: That's what menace tries to do all the time and I think we achieved it quite well with the invader agreed [296.97] Tony: Yeah, I use I use your pagoda and your patches on my [305.93] Tony: Clear view and [308.85] Tony: To be honest [310.21] Tony: My your patches work better than the pagoda on the clear view at the moment [315.57] Tony: But now I am actually testing one pagoda and one patch which worked really well last week [324.69] Tony: The guy at clear view said people would actually [328.73] Tony: He says in his thing you need to the same but now he's actually saying maybe people are finding it better with pagoda and a patch [336.21] Tony: So last week I'll run your pagoda and a patch and it was perfect on the on the track [341.93] Tony: And I've also done a high altitude flight with just your patch flew behind me and everything. It was perfect [349.25] Tony: It's really good. So with the spot [351.77] Jack: I didn't go above the legal limit. It's not right Tony exactly right there Jack. Thank you [359.53] Jack: You know, you know the guy who made the menace [362.85] Jack: who are [365.49] Jack: I'm the Eddie Martin. Yeah Martin. He came out with something else, isn't it? [370.77] Jack: The sort of way that you've got two connectors and you could screw [375.65] Greg: For left and right. Yeah, he's come out with a [380.21] Greg: They call it a triple feed patch [384.25] Greg: Really it's like to do even though there's only two inputs to draw feed patches [389.25] Greg: and yeah, you can select your left hand or your right hand in the [394.21] Greg: In the same patch just by putting your connector in [398.53] Greg: It's quite a quite a neat [401.17] Jack: Design there these come up with on that. Have you done anything with it? Have you tried it with you? [407.33] Greg: No, we're making some to test out and see what see what they're like and how they perform [414.97] Greg: Things [416.25] Greg: you know, I think [418.37] Greg: Having switchable left to right is a good idea. But I also think the concept of the patch [425.49] Greg: With a single connector would probably be a more [431.09] Greg: Desirable thing in the marketplace because most most guys have either gone down a right hand route or they've gone down a left hand route and [439.41] Greg: There's only a few guys that have got a selection of both [443.17] Greg: I don't know if you find that the same of you guys if you're lefties or righties [449.05] Tony: Jack's Jack's [451.05] Tony: He only left the amongst us everyone just went down the righty route because it was just the thing to do [457.61] Tony: Jack just likes to be different. I [460.33] Tony: Mean, that's just it [463.13] Jack: It's good. I [464.97] Jack: Prefer, you know, like the thing is as well. Everyone sells out the right hand and Dennis [469.97] Jack: And there's always some left hands kicking around and no one's and I'm just like I just hoover those up and it's fine [476.53] Jack: And like everyone flies all right, so I've got a better rejection against all the right ease. I [482.69] Tony: Think it's a good idea [484.53] Tony: Good idea for racing and stuff like [488.17] Jack: Plus I'm left-handed and so is Andy RC [491.89] Jack: But he ruins it by being a mode one [495.73] Jack: Mode one boy, isn't he? Oh God, what the hell bloody no, I think he's right hand patch as well [503.61] Jack: Does he does? [506.45] Tony: The Australian something [510.85] Jack: And so you gave Tony a linear patch, I'm sorry he milked you again he's like that [519.61] Jack: Milking you for everything he can [523.13] Jack: I'm only bringing that up because I'm glad Tony got some stuff [527.09] Jack: But I know it'll annoy someone but yeah [531.13] Tony: The bandicoots I've just played with them tonight [534.73] Tony: They're really cool [536.37] Greg: so [538.77] Greg: Well, we're on patches [541.89] Greg: Yeah, the invader is done done really well, but then I was noticing a lot of guys were using [548.29] Greg: micro drones and tiny work drones and [551.89] Greg: They were trying to reduce the weight by taking off the clover antennas and putting the little whip antennas on there [559.93] Greg: And you know really cutting the weight down, but they've gone over to linear [565.21] Greg: Whilst they had linear on their drone [568.13] Greg: they [569.53] Greg: They were still using their existing antennas to receive their circular polarized antennas [576.37] Greg: and [578.65] Greg: When you you sort look at the signals you're using mixed linear and [585.77] Greg: circular polarized signals [588.37] Greg: You get a about it's about a three decibel [592.49] Greg: Dropping signal so whilst they're probably flying these things and they're getting a very good signal as is [599.69] Greg: They're losing 3 DB now every 3 DB you lose you're effectively. It's a half of the power [608.01] Greg: So if you've got your tiny tiny work with a 25 milliwatt VTX [615.09] Greg: It's effectively a 12 and a half watt [618.53] Greg: Milli, sorry 12 and a half milliwatt VTX because you've mixed the signals you've lost your 3 DB [624.41] Greg: That's when I was thinking I need to try a linear patch [629.97] Greg: so I just started making a few linear patches here in the lab and [636.17] Greg: I was quite surprised that you know getting your 3 DB back and I was on my drone [641.85] Greg: I was getting about 40% further range [646.37] Greg: So that was just by using it's basically using the right tool for the job [653.49] Greg: So a few tweets later and yeah come up with the [658.89] Greg: The bandicoot a linear patch I've just tried them all I can say is [667.58] Jack: like crash bandicoot [669.58] Tony: That was quite a good impression actually Jack [672.82] Jack: Yeah, I know Andrew's back by the way. Hello Andrew [677.1] Jack: Hello [678.54] Jack: What happened with your sound card? [681.02] Frank: well because YouTube hangouts on there needs [686.5] Frank: HD what [689.7] Tony: Andrew [692.02] Tony: Boy, but now we can actually see him and hear him. I've lost the top of my [697.74] Jack: screwdriver because [699.74] Jack: Excitement, sorry [702.42] Frank: Yeah, so hangouts on there [704.54] Frank: the [706.14] Frank: Let's draw now account [707.98] Frank: Because I had that muted because I wasn't using it because I was using my own account. It was like ah [712.98] Frank: It's silent. There's no one speaking. So I can't let you go live [717.34] Frank: so then I had to switch everything over so that I wasn't on my account and I was on the let's turn out account and then [723.7] Frank: Set it up on there and convinced it that there was someone talking and that we could go live. So that was [731.5] Jack: Yeah, it's the worst but I hate running dual the thing it's the worst I hate it [740.9] Frank: Like I did last week and have the theme tune playing through the let's join out account and then it'll know that there's something coming [748.42] Frank: Yeah, have we got the same team to play us out tonight? I can set that up [753.18] Frank: I'll be fiddling about with that in the backgrounds. Hey, that's good. Good [757.9] Tony: Watch out. I've tried your crash bandicoot [765.86] Greg: That you know, that's gonna be the nickname now, isn't it? Yeah, they're gonna say I put a bandicoot on and I crashed [778.58] Greg: Don't know there's a few of us we were just banks and a few names around and [783.3] Greg: It just sort of I don't know it just kind of happened really [789.82] Tony: Some I [791.62] Tony: Like that. I like the fact that you've gone with a different name and a different color and things like that [796.02] Greg: So yeah, it was to sort of differentiate the patch just to make sure it you know people yeah at a glance [802.5] Greg: You know if you're picking up your linear or you're picking up a circle of polarized from the Menace range. Yeah [808.82] Tony: Well, they're all gonna be hopefully you'll be selling them [813.98] Tony: Turning out soon because everyone's well feels like winters already here [818.98] Tony: Doesn't it in a place it because it's been chud for the last four weeks [823.78] Tony: And I was just gonna say, you know, everyone's gonna be flying their tiny whoops and stuff and most of them now. I've got [830.54] Tony: linear whip antennas, I've [833.14] Tony: I've tried it tonight as I say and was flying through the house and out the window and out of front and it was [840.1] Tony: Seem to be working. Well [843.1] Tony: So I'm I'm quite impressed. So it's thumbs up from me [847.46] Jack: No, thank you [849.98] Jack: You know, there's there's a stream for kittens [853.3] Jack: You can watch a stream for tiny kittens six tiny rescued orphan kittens [864.66] Jack: Tiny kittens calm tiny kittens HQ [873.1] Jack: I like kittens [875.86] Tony: When I get older [878.9] Tony: If anyone wants to not look like Greg we always go up to off-topic [884.9] Jack: People like it when we go off-topic [891.86] Jack: Yeah [895.38] Jack: Antenna there's a bloke you like make stuff [899.14] Jack: And it is [901.66] Jack: Who makes stuff in a shed somewhere. I [907.34] Jack: Know he does like loads of stuff [911.18] Jack: His names [913.66] Jack: Is it I don't know. I don't know what his name is. He does the cantina [919.9] Jack: Andrew Nikkal [922.78] Jack: Yeah, there he is [925.42] Jack: Sorry, I'm just having a look so I just wanted to like find something to like send to [931.9] Jack: Menace and be like here man. Do you fancy trying this out? [936.82] Jack: Well, I was gonna say you want built personally get [941.82] Jack: maybe [944.9] Jack: Have you seen the 5.8 wave slot was it is this on this guy's channel? Yeah [954.3] Jack: I [955.66] Jack: Post it here [957.26] Jack: Post and yeah, man. I just there's all kinds of different types of antennas and [963.18] Jack: I quite like it and there's just this antenna or one. It's a [969.3] Jack: Yeah, that by quad. Yowgie antenna [972.94] Frank: Is it yaggy? [974.62] Jack: Yaggy [975.94] Jack: Yeah, I give a [978.58] Jack: That's [981.3] Greg: Tony I know I know yes. Yep [986.38] Jack: Andrew Andrew McNeil. Yes. Yeah, man, guys are legend [991.1] Greg: he's he's um [994.54] Greg: Yeah, he's built loads of stuff in his sort of like little lab at home, isn't he? Yeah [1002.52] Greg: I'm sorry [1004.56] Greg: He hasn't he hasn't posted for about six months now. I have nothing to happen to him [1011.5] Jack: But what do you think of this? [1014.5] Jack: No, it's 2.4. Darn it [1017.82] Frank: Well zero reckons you should call it banjo kazooie [1023.35] Tony: Can you great can you tell us about could you a little package together? [1031.74] Tony: so people could buy not just by your menace patch and [1036.1] Tony: your [1037.42] Tony: Pagoda they can buy a [1039.74] Tony: Little box set currently which I found I thought was a really good great idea [1044.98] Greg: Yeah, well, um [1047.02] Greg: What we noticed when we when we had the pagoda as well, we had the on these [1051.86] Greg: People were buying from the website and they were buying [1056.18] Greg: An invader and a couple of pagodas whether they were buying the normal length or the stubby, you know, it was a mix [1064.22] Greg: But we were also getting quite a lot of questions from people with different styles of goggles [1069.1] Greg: You know like the the box goggles [1072.58] Greg: I think they put RP connectors on them and [1075.46] Greg: and [1077.06] Greg: Some of them connect at the front of the goggles some of them connect on the top of the goggles [1083.18] Greg: so [1085.62] Greg: Basically after a discussion with [1089.3] Greg: Neil I drain [1092.54] Greg: He was saying to me well, why don't you do a pack and in the pack have your [1100.34] Greg: Antennas so someone who's starting out they can just buy the pack knowing that you've got everything to go [1108.1] Greg: so [1109.3] Greg: Yeah, I took that idea and then looked at all the goggles on the market and made sure we put in the pack all the connectors [1115.42] Greg: That you are likely to need with the current offer and a goggles at the time [1122.5] Greg: So anyone starting out by the pack and you know, it's gonna fit your quad it's gonna fit your goggles and [1128.7] Greg: All the antennas are gonna work together [1131.7] Greg: greatly [1132.78] Tony: So yeah, we put the antenna back. Well done Neil and well done you we love Neil. Well, I'd rain [1144.1] Tony: Bless him but we we do love Neil what [1148.82] Greg: What's what's in the package and how much is the package right in the pack you get an invader our patch [1157.58] Greg: You get a one of the stubby [1161.78] Greg: Pagodas you get a normal length pagoda you also get a [1170.18] Greg: Flex extension which is made out of RG 402, which is for 5.8 gigahertz you get a 45 degree [1179.46] Jack: Connector [1183.7] Jack: Sorry [1186.58] Jack: You could use that first 2.4 as well if you wanted our G4o [1194.66] Greg: But it stretches it goes up quite nicely up to 5.8 if you [1199.58] Greg: And cables some cables when you get to about 3 gigs [1204.94] Greg: They're terribly lossy. So yeah, we let the cables it suitable for the job [1212.42] Greg: And also you've got you convert if your RP to SMA [1218.26] Greg: In there as well and a couple of the little spinners, you know for tightening up your SMAs in that I love them [1224.5] Tony: It's little spinners [1228.66] Jack: I'm surprised you actually haven't got them on your nipples. Jack. I might I might get some tattoo with the little sign that says property of Tony [1237.42] Tony: I [1244.06] Tony: Greg the your stubbies how popular are they? I think they're [1248.7] Tony: But really really good antenna. They're [1251.86] Tony: really good in crashes and they're just [1255.1] Tony: Such a good size. Are they doing better than the normal pagodas or [1260.86] Tony: Yeah, well buying one pagoda for their goggle and stubby for them. I [1266.62] Greg: Think that the normal length pagodas. I think they're more popular for the goggle end [1273.3] Greg: Or some people putting them on FPV planes, but yeah, the stubby is definitely the most popular [1282.06] Greg: At the code is that we do it purely because it you know, it's shorter it's more robust and [1288.54] Greg: It's better for sort of erasing drains and things like that [1293.58] Tony: Cool cool [1294.86] Tony: Yeah, you got any more stuff in the pipeline. I know we talked about the bandicoot [1299.58] Tony: Maybe we should talk about that a bit more, but you got anything else in the pipeline [1304.86] Greg: I've got quite a few things that I'm always working on [1311.02] Greg: I [1312.82] Greg: absolutely love [1314.5] Greg: Experimenting so anything that you know grabs an interest or I think I can do it better [1320.1] Greg: I [1321.14] Greg: Get and just make some and just get stuck in and build it and try it out [1325.9] Greg: Half the time it doesn't make it to the light of day [1329.02] Greg: You know, you've got to do all these experiments to find out [1333.02] Greg: What is good and what is not good? [1336.94] Greg: But yeah a lot of my time is doing that that kind of experimentation [1343.78] Greg: So, yeah, there's quite a few things in in the pipeline and [1350.82] Greg: We may have [1353.14] Greg: Another new product by the end of the year [1356.42] Greg: Because we've had some promising results on something. I'm working on [1360.5] Greg: But I'm not going to share it today [1365.46] Tony: Drink more of that tea, but then you might tell us [1372.78] Tony: Well, it sounds I mean all your products are really good so we look forward to that I was thinking is there any way [1380.02] Tony: You could because I fly a wing and I'm just trying to trying to do a long-range [1386.3] Tony: wing flights and [1388.98] Tony: It always just use a normal pagoda or something on my wing [1392.7] Tony: I was just wondering if there's any way you could put four patches [1397.5] Tony: No one that way one that way one that way and on that way [1401.22] Tony: So, you know, they're all stuck together and whatever way you are because patches work better than [1408.06] Tony: Other than the bagodas don't they a long-range and [1411.94] Greg: Yeah, it's interesting that because you know that the patch is a higher gain [1419.02] Greg: Antenna than the [1421.58] Greg: Than the bagodas [1423.78] Greg: Obviously, they're very directional. So I think what you're saying there is you put them [1428.46] Greg: So all the directions make up a 360 is that the sort of thing? [1433.14] Tony: Yeah, cuz I mean when I'm flying away from with my plane [1435.98] Tony: I use two patches on my ground station, but I'm going quite far hmm and [1442.5] Tony: You know, I just wondered is there any way you could stick for so they all face [1450.29] Greg: Yeah, yeah [1453.09] Tony: Is that possible would it work [1456.57] Greg: It could be an experiment [1459.77] Greg: Off the top of my head [1462.21] Greg: Anything's possible and anything could work whether it's actually something that would be quite powerful [1469.81] Greg: Yeah, you know that to actually do that and get your four antennas connected you're gonna have to have a network [1477.93] Greg: connecting the [1480.17] Greg: Connecting the four antennas together. So it's all balanced and they're all receiving the right [1487.09] Greg: Power and everything like that and they're all in phase. So yeah [1492.17] Greg: It seems quite straightforward. But yeah, it's quite quite an effort to get all four to work together [1500.81] Jack: Something someone done online did you did you check out the oh, what was it called? [1508.29] Jack: Look, oh [1510.25] Jack: God, you know [1512.09] Jack: I'll be king had it. It was like basically with a load of that was on the ground [1516.81] Greg: the overlord [1518.65] Jack: Yeah, overlord. Yeah [1522.45] Greg: Yeah, no, I haven't used one but yeah, I can see the prints for your wings [1529.49] Tony: Well, we'd be a bit heavy with it Jack. Come on [1532.97] Jack: Well, you know [1534.57] Jack: You like it like that? [1536.89] Jack: You could do it see see how it works test it [1542.49] Tony: I'm willing to test anything from menace RC because it's all the thinking is done for me. I just put it on and test it [1550.77] Tony: My idea was that the wing side of things it would be good to have four patches going each [1559.09] Jack: Beach way because minutes. I want you to develop this thing off with you now [1568.33] Tony: I [1571.45] Tony: Just wondered would it ever work [1574.09] Jack: For if it's if it's gonna be too hard and maybe I want you to get a unicorn instead of a horn [1581.77] Jack: And I want to ride it was right before we get PV [1587.93] Tony: It was it was an idea that just I just had and just wondered if it would be visible that's all yeah [1600.18] Greg: Sorry, hey [1602.18] Greg: How far are you looking to achieve with your wing? [1607.26] Tony: Well, I don't know. I mean them with the right with the right set up on five point eight [1612.5] Tony: You can you can do you know, I've seen people do [1617.66] Tony: far [1619.26] Tony: Yeah, let's say far. I mean I've done [1622.82] Tony: two and a half miles [1624.86] Tony: on five point eight [1626.98] Tony: But I had one I was going to see I owe you to the tags [1640.74] Tony: I had a five-turn helical 400. Can I say that or not? [1649.5] Tony: 25 milliwatt times a couple of milliwatts and done two and a half miles, but [1657.14] Tony: But you know, you've got to stay in that straight line to get to get when you're that far out [1662.54] Tony: You've got to be in that in that line [1666.38] Jack: Yeah [1677.24] Jack: I'm sure he's gonna write dot dot dot together at the same time [1683.0] Jack: Probably he's an animal. I know I miss you rich man. I'm sorry. I'm being round. I just think fucking hell [1688.92] Jack: I've been I'm yawning. I've had a [1692.08] Jack: bloody MRI scan. I [1694.56] Jack: Can't actually feel my insides. Um [1697.44] Jack: It's the strikers, right? [1699.8] Jack: Hashtag CAI. Yeah, pretty much. I think so. I didn't get my butthole fingers by nurse [1706.6] Tony: Let's try now [1708.28] Frank: So when when Tony first said you that minutes we're gonna come on and talk about the linear patch [1715.32] Frank: And I was asking about why would you want a linear patch? [1719.12] Frank: I mean presume I presumed it was just purely for the microbes like you said [1723.08] Frank: But tiny was also saying that a load of races have been going from the secular polarize to linear antennas [1731.24] Frank: on the you know 250 races or 200 to 250 [1736.88] Frank: just to to save the weight and [1740.96] Frank: And then I've just seen in the past week the [1745.28] Frank: Lumineer [1746.8] Frank: Axi antennas in person for the first time [1749.96] Frank: And seeing the the weight difference that there is between just shedding the entire [1756.36] Frank: SMA adapter and just going from the ufl on the on a unify. That's a vtx [1762.32] Frank: straight to the to the antenna does seem like a big chunk of [1767.68] Frank: Metal to be shedding from the [1770.68] Frank: From the quads. Is that anything that men are still going to be looking to be doing anytime soon with any of their antennas? [1793.05] Greg: We're looking we're looking at all sorts, but yeah the ufl connectors is a very [1798.97] Greg: popular approach at the moment [1802.29] Greg: Purely, yeah, you're getting rid of that chunk of SMA [1806.09] Greg: Metal which obviously is a weight [1809.29] Greg: On on the drone, especially, you know with everyone weight conscious [1816.05] Greg: The thing the things we're sort of up against at the moment with the pagoda style [1823.57] Greg: Antenna if we were going to put a ufl straight onto that [1828.45] Greg: I think we would just be moving a [1832.41] Greg: problem down to the vtx because the cables used on the pagoda are quite [1838.61] Greg: It's a semi rigid cable [1842.17] Greg: So [1844.17] Greg: Whilst yeah, you could do it. I think we're going to cause a problem on vtx's [1850.93] Greg: We are at various ufl options [1856.49] Greg: But I would say the immediate thing that we are looking at is the receiving end [1863.85] Greg: because there are some very good very good antennas out there and [1868.45] Greg: For the for the drone end and there's there are quite a few ufl ones out there already [1875.09] Greg: some being linear linear whips linear V's and then obviously the the very small [1882.73] Greg: Ufl circular ones that we see as well [1886.09] Greg: but yeah, I think you know what what you'll see from us is on the receiving end and then we will [1893.85] Greg: We will hopefully be a bit further along the road with our ufl [1898.29] Frank: Offering we'll look up look out for that then because yeah looking at the the axes. I know what you're saying like if if that gets [1906.17] Frank: tagged on a [1909.49] Frank: Gate or something that could do a fair bit of damage to vtx [1914.45] Frank: That is because all the the air the coax is all pretty much structural in that. It's holding the air the actual antenna [1922.41] Frank: radiating bit out in the air somewhere [1926.01] Tony: Yeah, I think that's why most of the rock [1929.21] Tony: Racing with the linear more more that more so than the way is the is the crash the crashing [1935.65] Frank: Yeah, I was wondering if maybe the the actual that antenna bit the you know with the radiating bit inside it [1942.97] Frank: If that could have some way of having a little [1946.93] Frank: hole for a zip tie or something like that so the actual structural bit is on that lump out there whether it was you know [1953.49] Frank: screwed to the [1955.93] Frank: To the frame or zip tied to the frame or something like that [1959.21] Frank: So the actual yeah that gets caught is all the [1963.21] Frank: Stress is through that bit and directly to the frame without going through the coax and the vtx [1969.29] Frank: That's what I'd be looking out for [1971.29] Greg: Yeah, yeah, absolutely [1973.49] Greg: the [1974.69] Greg: you do because I think [1977.01] Greg: The thing is we've always looked at the antennas and you want them to have the best [1982.37] Greg: Performance you want to be able to have the furthest range the clearest signal [1986.13] Greg: But I think when you come down to racing, you're not actually going that far. You've got good [1993.05] Greg: actual [1994.41] Greg: Rejection then, you know, you're not really wanting a high gain antenna on on your drone [2001.21] Greg: Get round your your race course and I've seen a lot guys [2005.97] Greg: They're mounting the you know, the the active part of the antenna right then in the frame and that's [2013.65] Greg: Probably something, you know that you're sort of touching on there whether whether you have a specific which you can make down in the frame [2019.53] Greg: But it's got the fixings to fix [2022.41] Greg: The weighty part to the frame. It's that's a good idea [2026.69] Tony: so [2030.55] Tony: minutes gonna do any bigger patches for wings the receiving ends and for higher DB's or [2037.67] Tony: Anything like that. I mean I have flown with both two minutes patches and they work fine, but I'm just wondering [2045.31] Tony: Is there anything in a pipeline to make a bigger so we can go further? I know it [2049.79] Tony: Is it right? It will be a narrower beam the bigger the patch kit [2054.39] Greg: It sort of works [2056.99] Greg: As far as antennas go on the receiving side as you go up in game [2063.15] Greg: You tend to have a narrower beam width and that tends to be true on all the different topology of [2071.23] Greg: Antennas that right there. I mean you look at helical [2075.67] Greg: Antennas and I think they range from three turns up to [2080.55] Greg: 12 turns or 15 turns or something like that and their gain ranges from 7 to about 12 DB [2088.71] Greg: But you will notice the more turns you have on a helical the much narrower that theme weight gets [2097.51] Greg: Yeah, I think you know long range but if you're going long range the further out you go [2103.63] Greg: Because your beam gets wider the further you go out [2108.31] Greg: You have got a bit of it more room to play with there [2111.99] Greg: okay, so a careful selection of antennas on diversity or on your clear view and [2119.43] Greg: You might find that that would get you quite a long way. I've seen [2124.31] Tony: I've seen [2131.03] Tony: I've seen [2133.11] Tony: 5.8 goes like 10 kilometers probably even further than that if you've got the right antennas [2140.39] Greg: Yeah [2141.91] Greg: Absolutely. I mean, yeah, we're working on receiving end stuff and we're working on high high gain stuff as well [2149.87] Greg: And hopefully we'll have [2152.11] Greg: One of these ready by the end of the year [2155.67] Greg: before the end of the year [2157.75] Greg: Cool cool. So yeah [2161.63] Tony: You might tell us some more stuff [2166.11] Jack: Has he been playing with dipoles? I don't know asking hello [2175.34] Jack: Dipoles you're gonna do any 2.4 stuff for the tyrannics because a lot of people have done the tyrannics [2181.46] Greg: On the Toronto side on the 2.4. Yeah, I had a look at some of that and [2189.89] Greg: To be fair, I've coined at the moment. I've kind of stuck on the FPV side of things [2196.21] Greg: that's kind of where [2198.69] Greg: I'm getting you know, the most [2202.69] Greg: It's the most interesting for me and I think I've got you know a few things [2208.37] Greg: Yeah, I think will help the FPV [2213.57] Greg: Area, I mean on the on the tyrannis side of things. There's quite a few [2219.09] Greg: Good products out there, isn't there? [2222.49] Greg: Already for getting a much further range with your tyrannics [2226.33] Tony: But I know I know of two mods but quite a lot of people do the mods and and end up mucking up their tyrannis [2232.61] Tony: There's the I'd be crazy [2235.33] Tony: Little looks like a coat hanger Jack. I think you've got one [2242.61] Tony: And then there's the big mod, yeah that thing [2248.61] Greg: Yes, yeah, it's already you have to rip your [2252.61] Greg: Tyrannis apart and get inside and do the actual mod itself and there's been [2257.53] Greg: Isn't there? [2259.53] Tony: People trash in the tranis. Yeah, that's it. There's a lot of stories of people doing it [2264.97] Tony: Yeah, Mikey dreads in the chat and he said he's messed. He's up twice doing [2271.13] Tony: On the tranis [2273.17] Jack: What you want to do is use Dan Upton. That sounds really good at it. What do you think of that by quad? [2277.81] Jack: Yagi 5.8, but I put the link in our chat. Did you get it? Yes. Yes, absolutely. Yes [2284.77] Jack: Does that do anything for you? That kind of does something for me. Yeah [2289.21] Tony: On a little ground because it's pie [2292.29] Jack: Huh, sorry [2296.25] Jack: Cuz it's by [2316.65] Jack: Is the IV crazy antenna for the tranis in your hand? Yes, it is [2323.39] Jack: Joshua bardwell said more than they make it in our PSMA and that's what I had to do. I had to take [2330.55] Jack: Mine apart so to cut the heat shrink off these order it put a new one on [2336.99] Tony: It just looks like a coat hanger didn't it [2341.11] Jack: Leave it a full row to with some bike braid cable around it [2347.07] Jack: And then there's some sort of weird fold there [2350.39] Tony: Does it have to be the right size and things like that then? Yeah, of course [2353.75] Jack: I think you probably found that out Greg when you made the extended [2358.59] Jack: Thing here to make them half a wavelength or something didn't you? Yeah. Yeah, you have to get the right legs [2364.79] Jack: Yeah, so he's in the wavelengths. That's what it's all about. Yeah, I wish I didn't know that because [2371.63] Jack: It's the reason why me and Tony forever single [2377.75] Jack: So [2380.15] Jack: UFL connectors like I've just bought some tramps [2384.71] Jack: um and [2388.23] Jack: I don't like ufl connectors. I don't [2392.23] Tony: Have a little clip on that you could just clip it in. Yeah. Yeah [2401.11] Jack: Ufo the truth is out there. That's the other side. Um [2406.39] Jack: They just [2408.23] Jack: Rip off be it's lost and see you have to use really tiny cable which equals more loss [2413.43] Jack: How is it any good? [2414.95] Jack: And then when that connection this is bad enough having something soldered directly onto it because you'd rip pads out and then fry your vtx [2423.03] Jack: but having a ufl connector that just come on clip and then [2427.99] Jack: Fry you don't you just flop a load of hot glue all over it. No, oh tony. That's your answer to everything, isn't it? [2434.31] Jack: tony, you're the type of guy who [2436.47] Jack: Would really bring a hot girl back realize she doesn't have any condoms [2440.47] Tony: and then just [2450.07] Tony: Sorry everyone who's listening to this back you this is like we always say a light-hearted show [2458.07] Tony: Yeah [2464.87] Tony: You know what i'm saying no like hot glue over it [2485.83] Tony: Every time you every time someone's gonna pick up a bloody gun now, you know, you're just gonna think about it [2492.79] Tony: Oh for god's sake [2495.51] Tony: Sorry about that greek [2501.59] Greg: We were talking about [2503.43] Greg: Table lengths weren't we we were [2506.87] Greg: But um, yeah, you know getting the links right on an antenna is an important thing [2512.63] Greg: I don't know if you saw recently we put up a [2516.87] Greg: 3d printable tool [2519.51] Greg: Um the anyone can download it or thingy verse [2524.39] Greg: And it's basically it's worked out [2527.67] Greg: so that you can make a whip antenna or uh an offset v antenna [2533.51] Greg: And all the dimensions have perfectly worked out. So you end up with [2538.71] Greg: You know repeatability you end up with 5.8 gigahertz [2542.55] Greg: um [2543.59] Greg: The only reason I went and done it was because there's so many youtube videos of people [2549.03] Greg: um [2550.07] Greg: showing how to make [2551.75] Greg: Uh the whip antennas and they're all sort of quoting dimensions and things [2557.59] Greg: And they're all measuring them from different points on the coax. I thought well [2562.15] Greg: Let's make it all [2564.07] Greg: And uh, let's give it away for free. So, um, that's out there if anyone wants to download it [2569.75] Greg: Where can I find that? [2571.43] Greg: That's on thingy verse [2573.59] Greg: Um, if you just hop on thingy verse and search, uh menace antenna tool [2579.59] Greg: It should pop up [2584.92] Tony: Sorry jack didn't hear that are they bias can you turn your mic up jack or turn yourself up? Well frank [2592.6] Jack: Frank has to give me controls frank turn him on a little bit i'm getting there [2600.55] Tony: And and make sure you can turn him down as well [2603.35] Tony: There you go. Take you to places [2606.31] Jack: Okay, oh no, he still hasn't given me if you click give me control [2612.39] Frank: Yeah, i've turned you up as far as you go [2615.67] Jack: Why haven't I got the [2617.75] Tony: We don't trust you with it jack. We talk about oc glue in particular places. So [2623.03] Jack: That's when we need to know access to control. I don't know why my [2628.23] Jack: Why is my sound so quiet? No, you sound good now you sound fine [2632.55] Greg: You sound lovely [2634.23] Jack: Okay [2635.51] Tony: I just know that you remember your question now [2639.11] Jack: Yeah, if you get you know how it's a v shape if you get it wrong [2643.51] Jack: Can it be biased? [2646.47] Greg: Um [2648.55] Greg: Yes, you know, um [2651.83] Greg: The v direction yeah, there's there's quite a few [2657.03] Greg: Um antennas out there where they've got the v at the top of the cable like so [2662.07] Greg: Whereas on the tool that we do you've got the active part here [2665.27] Greg: And then when we do the offset v down to the side [2669.27] Greg: and [2670.15] Greg: basically, um [2672.39] Greg: The ones with the v at the top the impedance is all over the place across the whole frequency range [2679.11] Greg: So by moving it round to the position we've got it on the tool [2683.99] Greg: Basically it levels out the impedance [2686.55] Greg: So it's very important that you get the um the angles [2691.35] Greg: right on [2693.03] Greg: on the v antennas [2696.86] Tony: So what uh, do you know these v antennas people are putting on their quads? [2702.38] Tony: What's what's what what? [2705.18] Tony: Of your antennas would be uh best to use [2709.26] Greg: On the receiving end. So the v the v antenna is actually a linear antenna [2714.38] Greg: So bandicoot we're back to the bandicoot. Yes [2718.06] Greg: Yeah, that would that would probably be the best selection in our arsenal with many antennas [2724.54] Tony: cool [2725.98] Tony: so [2727.18] Tony: Um, there's a couple of people in the chat rich [2730.06] Tony: Rich is flying with me sunday. You need to buy some bandicoots for your antennas [2735.26] Tony: For your goggle. Sorry because you always fly [2738.38] Tony: linear [2740.22] Tony: Always moaning [2742.46] Tony: He never listens to me though, so hopefully you will [2748.3] Tony: Ben ben rise asked greg. What can you do for long-range stuff? Oh, we just talked about [2753.98] Tony: about that [2755.1] Tony: Um ben, so you might [2757.82] Tony: Have to watch this again in a minute when it's on youtube or listen to it on soundcloud. We were talking about earlier [2765.82] Tony: um [2766.78] Tony: Your patches go quite far to be honest. Anyway, so i've flown them um [2772.54] Tony: Within the legal range as it were or it may be a little bit further [2778.3] Tony: You know only a tiny bit [2780.38] Greg: some someone [2783.42] Jack: Speaking of illegal stuff, um [2786.7] Jack: Dan upton, uh [2788.7] Jack: Was chad to me and he said that you know the old [2793.02] Jack: Immersion RC vtx is [2795.98] Jack: Yeah, you know the 600 milliwatt ones. They're like the size of a tumour. Yeah the brick, you know [2801.34] Jack: Yeah [2805.18] Jack: When I used to buy them back in the day when I had all my teeth, um, sorry [2812.22] Jack: Didn't have condoms. You just have to make them ourselves out of a lot of glue [2815.42] Jack: um [2816.62] Jack: like [2819.58] Jack: Sorry [2821.58] Jack: um [2823.02] Jack: yeah [2824.22] Jack: like [2825.66] Jack: He said there seems to be like some sort of weird [2829.26] Jack: It's got some sort of weird pattern in it or coding [2832.46] Jack: like decoding or something in [2835.18] Jack: In those vtxes that if you use it on anything that's like next wave, it works fine [2839.26] Jack: but if you work use it with something that has got [2841.66] Jack: Like the next wave decoding or something and it it's a bit sort of [2845.82] Jack: If it has anyone else ever noticed that i'm just putting that out there [2851.5] Tony: No [2852.54] Tony: It worked. Well i've got one on my wing and it worked with both my menace patches [2857.5] Tony: But I know what he's saying because I've seen [2860.7] Tony: Yeah [2861.98] Tony: That's what i'm saying when it when the 600 is on my wing and i'm the immersion rc 600 i use the menace patches [2868.46] Tony: They work fine on my receiver [2871.02] Tony: I remember [2872.62] Tony: getting just as good range with a [2876.3] Tony: with my old old [2878.7] Tony: Google one just one [2881.66] Tony: And just sticking out and it and it used to go just as far if not further [2886.62] Tony: Yeah, I think you're right there. There is some kind of with the three what immersion has done [2893.5] Tony: In in that vtx [2895.98] Tony: Yeah compared to others [2898.3] Tony: Because I remember getting the same performance. We've just yeah that next wave [2903.74] Jack: Curry kitten said yes. I made a whole video on it. Talk to [2907.9] Jack: sander sunset about it wouldn't work unless you have the newer 600 milliwatt [2913.9] Jack: Can you link me curry kitten? [2916.06] Jack: Lord help me [2917.58] Jack: Like that. He still listens to this [2920.46] Jack: But curry kitten. Can you come back on? [2923.74] Jack: like one day because I felt like I [2927.18] Jack: King shambles episode up [2929.82] Jack: Good, you know if you were around and you wanted to hang out, that would be amazing. I'd like make up for it [2934.62] Jack: I'll let you like shout at me [2936.7] Frank: I'm going to like shut up jack. I didn't say john sandcloud recently jack after sunday [2941.34] Jack: I did. Yeah, i've got i've got two little stories. I've got um [2946.06] Jack: One if you notice if you download that from itune [2950.22] Jack: So, do you know his name? Can I add his name to the episode? [2954.86] Frank: Sam i'm pretty sure it was sam [2957.1] Frank: See i've got a shout out to sam and mike and everyone else at drone racing cornwall [2963.34] Frank: um went up with them on on sunday and uh [2967.9] Frank: and and they had words about [2971.58] Frank: how [2973.18] Frank: How behind let us drone out are on uploading? [2976.86] Frank: Uh episodes on soundcloud. Yeah [2980.06] Jack: Cody's always receiving jack lul [2984.06] Tony: Are you definitely you have a go [2986.54] Jack: He definitely won't be the bottom [2988.54] Tony: I'm always trying to get him to hurry up and upload stuff [2991.74] Tony: Because quite a lot of people like listening to the soundcloud stuff when they're at work or when they're building [2998.06] Jack: so [2999.58] Jack: I said [3001.82] Jack: Upload sam now i'm going to change it to sam who told me to upload some episodes who lives in cornwall [3013.18] Jack: No, it's already been uploaded and I have gotten it i've got an episode we've got chad's episode already uploaded [3020.06] Jack: But uh, like I said on my other podcast i'm dreading it when the editor runs out of the episodes on my youtube [3026.78] Jack: We're on our own. What do we do? [3029.82] Jack: We need [3031.18] Tony: We need your help people let's put a shout out. Does anyone want to edit our let's run out youtube? [3037.82] Tony: Well, no, not even edit [3039.9] Jack: Does anyone want to listen to the episodes? [3044.46] Jack: like [3045.1] Jack: email us [3045.98] Jack: Uh, let's run out at gmail.com. Is that our email? Please tell me that's our email [3053.18] Jack: And I always mess it up but [3056.14] Jack: If you want email, I need a volunteer to sit there and listen to all the episodes basically listen to an episode [3061.98] Jack: I'll give you a list of what episodes you listen to an episode [3067.18] Jack: If timestamps have all the swearing that's all you got to do [3071.26] Jack: Completely incorrect racist, you know what tony's like.
