[562.64] Ash: something that's edited because then you can in theory follow it as you're building the quad

[688.96] Ash: dot co thing um so about two years ago there was a big fiasco with a proud drone called xano
[697.6] Ash: I don't know if you guys are familiar with it nothing to do with FPV racing or anything like
[701.28] Ash: that but it was one of the first small micro um racing racing course but video capture kind of
[708.96] Ash: drones type thing isn't it and it drags a lot of people in it had a really flashy promotional
[716.0] Ash: video that got everybody excited as they do and thousands of people backed it and basically it
[722.8] Ash: was crap and it didn't deliver the company yeah it was one I think it was the biggest crowd
[729.92] Ash: thunder that failed actually so I was one of the I mean I was kind of fairly new to drones back
[738.26] Ash: then it was quite some time ago were you talking about the lily no way before that xano
[745.7] Ash: um company little company in wales uh
[751.06] Ash: talking technology where over the bridge in wales oh wales oh there's your problem
[760.18] Ash: um so that failed um a starting group for people to basically join and discuss and
[766.42] Ash: write back is refunded and helps people to try to find lots of drones and then that really just
[775.46] Ash: spawned out to a community and a group of people so we named it droning on and it went up from that
[782.82] Ash: really and then the group group of bigger beer started writing editorials and then companies
[788.34] Ash: wanted to send drones for review and a lot of crowdfund manufacturers wanted to send me drones
[794.5] Ash: which is probably a big mistake because a lot of them weren't very good
[798.58] Ash: honest to my own good so if it's rubbish i've always said it's rubbish um and it went on for
[803.62] Ash: no really cool and somehow you've ended up here yeah you asked me last week and how could i
[811.09] Andy: possibly say no we're sorry this has got to be the peak of his your career surely absolutely

[1055.57] Ash: review up there i wouldn't enjoy doing it as much because i love doing the editing and stuff like

[1080.37] NJ: um so do you did you go out um did you really go out on researching your lighting setups and stuff
[1085.97] NJ: or did you just go right i think this is the stuff i need let's let's go for it i just bought a camera
[1090.61] Ash: a goprostruct it to my head and that's about it i mean literally some of my early videos there's
[1096.93] Ash: so much i just listened back to them now the audio is rubbish because i'm um i've got the camera
[1101.97] Ash: halfway across the room and i just didn't think about stuff like that but i mean it takes a long
[1106.85] Ash: time you know editing these videos i'll be sent a really really cheap crappy little drone for review
[1113.41] Ash: and the video will take me eight hours to film and edit and i think afterwards
[1117.17] Ash: you know was it really worth it when the drone actually wasn't that good but actually it is
[1120.85] Ash: because if it saves someone else from buying it or if it saves 50 people from buying it and it's
[1126.13] Ash: worth one so yeah i do enjoy it keeps me busy but we we've got a six month old baby now
[1132.85] Ash: and i must say it's thrown my whole reviewing and editing cycles absolutely out the window
[1138.45] Ash: it's like andy said earlier trying to get a quiet moment in the house is almost impossible yeah
[1144.69] Frank: that's the most difficult part for me yeah definitely i saw your um article recently on the
[1152.29] Frank: the snap drone and oh yeah all the stuff that's going on with that um did you have you got hold
[1160.21] Frank: of one of the uh pot dealers drones of choice or you sort of read about it when you got a hold of
[1167.97] Ash: some information on it i after zano i tried to focus so i've got the review channel on youtube
[1173.97] Ash: but i used the droningon.co website to write articles on any other crowdfund drone so
[1180.13] Ash: anything that's currently being crowdfunded on the market like qdrone or selphi or snap as well
[1185.73] Ash: as another one i try and write about it look at the specs see if it's viable and just really try
[1191.65] Ash: and help backers to understand if it's worth investing in because there are unfortunately
[1196.29] Ash: lots of people out there who are sat just waiting to give away their money to these campaigns uh
[1201.57] Ash: snap was one that i always actually had hoped for but they seem to have been slightly distracted
[1209.73] Ash: and they're now um struggling to get the drone out to the backers and there's thousands of people
[1214.85] Ash: waiting for it and it's it started looking really good now it's looking a little bit dodgy
[1219.49] Ash: the the drones that actually have ships people are crashing and flying out of control and
[1226.21] Ash: worryingly the cnn has just been cnn have just been granted a waiver from the faa
[1231.41] Ash: the heads of the public so it's a bit of a worry so i'm following that one really closely
[1236.45] Frank: yeah because you know maybe if it was like a tiny whoop sized thing then it wouldn't
[1241.49] Frank: be able to make for a problem but it's it's you know a fairly chunky piece of kit that
[1246.93] Ash: hasn't been very thoroughly checked yeah that's a one and a half pound drone and their argument
[1252.53] Ash: is will the props are shrouded it's you know fully enclosed props and it uses formula one
[1257.57] Ash: technology to break up on impact well that's a little consequence to someone if it lands on
[1262.05] Ash: break up on impact on your head exactly they also claimed um that it's got auto rotation
[1270.21] NJ: there's absolutely no chance of that at all exactly yeah a drone can't auto rotate if it's
[1275.97] Ash: got no power in the event of a failure how is a drone going to auto rotate and land softly it
[1280.93] Ash: won't it might it might drop down a little bit slower but it's not going to have a cushion
[1285.65] NJ: ball well for a start they'd have to be almost completely frictionless in terms of the ability
[1291.09] NJ: to rotate and if they're a fixed pitch they'd have to stop the direction they're turning and
[1294.69] NJ: reverse in the other direction by which time they would have fallen probably a thousand feet in a
[1299.41] NJ: couple of seconds so exactly that's just that's just utter arse that's also on the assumption
[1306.93] Ash: that the drone even fly a false level yeah of course there's no power to the rotors it's just
[1311.25] Ash: going to be flopping all over the place so yeah i think they're struggling and a bit like lily
[1315.73] Ash: the the sort of signs are there right now i think that that's the company in distress i think they're
[1320.93] Ash: running out of money to produce enough drones to get out to their backers so keep an eye on snap

[3748.0] NJ: geprc sparrow that looks nice i tell you what this only weighs 145 grams so this is going to be
[3757.36] NJ: a real monster because it's got um let me see what the stator is on this my eyes are terrible so it's
[3763.36] NJ: a 3500 kv 1408 um and a 1408 uh because i was using 1306s on my other where's my other one

[3779.92] NJ: guy and then you look at this guy this this weighs a whole lot less that looks out for us and they're
[3785.68] NJ: claiming this guy will quite happily fly with a gopro you can see they've actually put the straps

[5585.5] NJ: serious about the channel but i think it's one of those things it's just a platform to to do
[5591.1] NJ: whatever you want with it so i mean yes there is a kind of typical model with goals and
[5597.1] NJ: pledge for this and you'll get that and literally with my one i said if you want to donate something

[5608.06] NJ: build tutorials or tips and tricks if there's something that's helped you and you want to

[5748.22] Ash: really demotivated in the last few weeks just really because of subscriber building is very
[5753.9] Ash: slow and i feel like i'm doing something wrong with my reviews maybe i'm being too honest um and
[5759.74] Ash: also getting comments on the videos is also it seems to be hard work to get people to just write
[5764.54] Ash: a simple comment and you can't ever force people to do that but all you ask is you know if you enjoy
[5770.3] Ash: the review or if you don't enjoy it drop a comment but it's very the youtube audience i think is a

[5819.66] NJ: it's one i use as my main one now instead of a 140 pound weller and i just thought i bought it

[6501.58] Andy: completely what you would say completely successful crowdfunded project like everyone
[6508.54] Andy: was happy with it like the majority because like that's why i'm getting from this is like
[6515.34] Andy: a lot of people pile so much money into it and then they're just disappointed every time
[6520.06] Tony: i know one um what's that um quadcopter what the following one purple plastic air dog
[6528.22] Ash: air dog that work our dog has been very popular yeah it hasn't really conquered the consumer
[6535.02] Ash: market it's quite specialist sports um market because it's waterproof and it's foldable and
[6540.78] Ash: you have to wear a watch yeah i mean that's one of the real niches about air dog it's got a tracking
[6545.82] Ash: bracelet which you don't have to worry about carrying around a phone or a transmitter strike
[6549.98] Ash: uh starker is another one a norwegian sort of air dog copy which again is struggling to get to
[6555.5] Ash: market but it's finally being shipped out to customers now and they seem quite happy with it
[6560.46] Ash: so yeah there are some success stories but i think um even if the product is really good
[6567.74] Ash: a lot of the frustration can come from the time that it takes to get that product to yeah i mean
[6573.34] Tony: air dog looks really good though everything i've ever watched on it look really really good it's
[6579.02] Andy: it's a really unusual process i think i think it's interesting crowdfunding because it's like
[6584.46] Ash: a loan really isn't it it is what my advice to customers would always be to make sure that when
[6590.06] Ash: you do put your money into a company on a crowdfunding basis that it's very clear that
[6594.38] Ash: your money is only invested when the product goes into production yeah your money's not used to fund
[6599.74] Ash: rnd or marketing or anything else or you know even running costs of offices and staff because
[6605.18] Andy: that's what sometimes happens it's class as a gift isn't it i was looking okay it's class as a gift
[6610.94] Andy: and because of that they i don't think they have to pay tax on it as well as long as it's
[6616.7] Andy: invested into the product yeah i think i believe so because i always thought that's it's really
[6622.7] Andy: strange because technically you're just getting given a lump sum of money and surely you know
[6628.7] Andy: if you were to do that as an individual well i don't know because like if you look at microdrome
[6632.62] Andy: for example it was like didn't it raise like millions three three million if someone all of

[6689.26] Ash: that after the campaign had concluded that the same drone had been on amazon for a year at half
[6694.38] Ash: the price under a different name so it's it's a shame that the crowdfunding concept is being
