[93.39] NJ: of consciousness I kept waking up on my bathroom floor. Which end was induced by the last thrown
[101.47] Tony: out chat. I was just interested. Both. Oh dear. It was pretty handy that my path was quite near to

[118.27] Tony: before but never like that. I didn't eat for 28 hours actually. It was horrible and listening to

[132.27] Tony: can't crawl to my bed to turn it off. Sounds like some horrible trip. It actually felt like I'd been

[150.19] Tony: actually in the hospital so yeah. I got into the back of the ambulance. I didn't actually get to
[157.79] Tony: the hospital. They said if it is a bug you're going to take it in and hurt people. So I decided
[164.43] Tony: to stick it out on my own and stay in. Which I did. Well Jack. Yeah but Jack's actually in
[172.99] Tony: the hospital so. Anyway let's like they sort his brain out and maybe just sort him out a bit.

[221.79] NJ: Yeah I've been super busy. Which I always hate because it means the channel's a bit quiet and
[226.59] NJ: if I was a little more prepared I'd have stuff to release. Which I did kind of do. I sort of stacked
[232.43] NJ: a load of videos up and then got so excited about releasing the videos that I just released them.
[237.71] NJ: Because one of them was on those those new battery go batteries which they're self-discharging.
[245.07] NJ: Which I'm still not you know I'm still a little bit I'm not skeptical I'm just a little bit nervous
[250.67] NJ: of them until I've had enough time with them to see this self-discharging thing.
[258.91] NJ: For it's time for it to prove itself because I just don't like the idea of 20 batteries all
[264.03] NJ: bringing you know discharging themselves because obviously they're only doing that via heat.
[267.63] NJ: And it's obviously a very very you know it's being done very lightly and we're talking about you know
[273.39] NJ: over a quite a long span of time probably like 12 hours or more. Probably way more than that
[278.91] NJ: actually if you're talking about discharging a full pack. But I hope it's a really cool technology
[285.95] NJ: and it proves itself and you know the battery side of things they've been kicking their heels
[290.99] NJ: a little bit other than just improving C ratings and batteries being able to sustain high amps.
[299.15] NJ: So this is kind of cool so I'm all for it and it'll be it'll be a good thing if it comes to other
[304.51] NJ: battery manufacturers because obviously at the minute it's just Charsoon and they've got a bit
[307.71] NJ: of a mixed reputation. But these cells seem decent so you know I've got to thrash them as
[314.03] NJ: soon as Hurricane whatever we're having now decides to leave us alone. It is a bit mad out there.
[319.07] NJ: That's horrific like this the problem is like I've got review stuff ready to go but most of the
[324.19] NJ: reviews I do I like to include flight video and I'm going to have to do a part one part two which
[329.39] NJ: I know probably winds people up because you'd want to get to the end of the review and then not be
[332.75] NJ: able to see it fly. But flying I've got so many micros and this weather is horrific it's definitely
[339.95] Andy: not micro weather. You know I've lost I did I did a review of this GPS drone this week and I basically
[348.91] Andy: anytime I tried to fly it started raining and the frustration came out in the video and I've
[354.83] Andy: actually lost subscribers because of how how annoyed I was getting at the weather and people
[361.71] Andy: were like that's it I'm out I'm unsubscribing it's just the weather deal with it kind of thing.
[368.11] Andy: So I'm glad that you have the same frustration as me MJ because it's it's been absolutely
[374.75] Andy: diabolical especially today. I actually done a review today I didn't realize it was some sort
[379.63] Andy: of hurricane but I got I bought one of these just just because of how crazy the wind being it's a
[388.91] Andy: a wind meter and this this read 30 mile per hour today three zero. I flew in that today.
[396.75] Andy: Yes so nice and yeah pretty crazy but yeah we're not having much luck I don't think it's either
[404.43] Andy: see the gale force winds or or rain and I'm trying not to I'm it today like I did I done a review of
[411.71] Andy: the I think it's called the diatom tire and S and I was trying to not complain about the weather as
[417.79] Andy: hail is pelting at me whilst I stand when I stand when I do FPV and the wind was actually
[425.63] Andy: I'm like getting like vertigo as the wind's hitting me and I'm trying to do a review but
[432.91] NJ: I'm glad I'm glad you said that. No it's true I'm gonna obviously when I'm exacerbating this by
[439.31] NJ: saying a hurricane there is no official hurricane but if there was we'll call it hurricane boring
[444.11] NJ: because I'm thoroughly bored of this terrible weather we're having. We didn't have an Indian
[449.07] NJ: summer we've just it's just gone straight to winter pretty much and it just sucks so I was
[455.47] NJ: hoping to get more micro stuff done now because it may be that it's time to hit the halls perhaps
[463.79] NJ: and go you know 3D print some flags and gates and sort of look to do that because we've got almost
[471.07] NJ: no light now and the light we do have is just as you say peppered with terrible weather surrounding
[477.15] NJ: it so yeah it's slowing us down a little bit but you know do what we have to I guess. Did you say
[483.95] Andy: that the weather's the same in Europe though it's not just those? You know what I was in so I've been
[489.87] NJ: in Holland for the last 10 days and I was there this time last year and this time last year it
[497.71] NJ: was literally blue skies and beautiful for the entire time I was there which was nearly two weeks
[503.55] NJ: I think last time this time we did about 10 11 days and this time it was literally like I took
[508.99] NJ: the British weather and somehow packed it in my bag and then it jumped straight out and then some
[515.07] NJ: it was horrible you know even the Dutch were kind of looking around going you know what's
[519.63] NJ: what's going on it was it was horrible pretty much everywhere we were so yeah I couldn't do
[525.79] NJ: too much I did manage I did take some drones out with me because I planned to do some
[529.87] NJ: some flying and in the end I think I got one late night flight around a town square with
[535.79] NJ: you know very little town where no one was around with one of the micros and that was it so I may
[541.63] NJ: put that up on the channel but yeah it's not been a lot of flying going on. So have you had a lot
[547.63] Andy: of stuff building up then whilst you've been away in the post? Yes yes I've been opening boxes to
[554.91] NJ: see what's what's arrived and I have had the the stack you know the little purple kind of run
[563.71] NJ: cam stack thing that E-Sheen have brought out yeah so I've got that guy to have a look at which
[570.03] NJ: seems to I see there's a few videos out on it already but I'm going to take a nice close look
[575.47] NJ: at that thing is it called just stack f4 something it's got an X in it as well I think that's it stack
[582.67] NJ: X f4 that's it so yeah that E-Sheen one but the only thing I don't like actually let me just
[588.99] NJ: stretch to grab it presumably see here because I open boxes pull stuff out and then that's it's
[594.11] NJ: just lost in the it's got quite a lot of cool accessories which is nice so you've got you know
[600.03] NJ: that's the first time I've seen one of these come with an SMA and RPSMA pigtails that's a smart move
[607.63] NJ: that's different yeah although you know who uses RPSMA I certainly don't I've just got tons of
[612.99] Frank: SMA's so that's moving out to a UFL anyway aren't they generally by the looks of it well exactly
[619.79] NJ: um but yeah there we go that's the um that's the stack so you've got um a very similar kind of
[626.67] NJ: affair to the split and the split two um but this thing that's pretty it's wrong that's yeah that's
[634.59] NJ: that's going to only fit in certain frames I think that's the probably the biggest issue with
[638.59] NJ: that um but it's nice you know everything apart from the VTX I think is oh VTX and receiver um
[644.75] Andy: I think VTX is in there isn't it or am I wrong I could be wrong I bet you're right well of course
[649.87] NJ: I'm being stupid so I'm out of practice of course I've just shown you that there's
[654.83] Andy: yes hey hey just because just because they've given you an SMA doesn't mean there's a VTX

[680.19] NJ: printed the GoPro mount with the uh little capture on the back so yeah looks like there's
[686.51] Andy: enough room for an elongated camera in that frame as well there is but I just know I'm going to love
[692.75] NJ: this so um I think this is going to be a premium only component build that one and then the last
[698.67] NJ: one let me just quickly show you this because I think this is really cool this is the new
[702.35] NJ: diatone uh you've already reviewed this Andy haven't you no no I haven't you haven't got this
[707.71] NJ: okay so this is the GT race R90 R90 yeah absolutely so I know I can't get too good
[716.75] NJ: of focus on that um in the red and white scheme here but this has so much cool stuff in it um
[724.19] NJ: you can't really see too well though but there's a little kind of 3D printed stack in there
[728.67] NJ: yeah and everything kind of slots into it with a little capture lug um it has a TBS unify in there
[736.75] NJ: smart audio already pre-wired which is cool as hell um it's just it's just got these nice little
[742.03] NJ: things like I can't really get props out of the way to see but there's a 3D part of the 3D print
[747.55] NJ: has this little shoot at the back for the antenna to kind of keep out the way down the bottom they've
[753.31] NJ: made this little lug here for rip tie zip tying for the antenna it's an f4 OSD uh all the usual
[760.59] NJ: stuff you'd expect um you see there is it an xt 60 or 30 it's a 30 this thing is is yeah I mean
[767.95] NJ: I haven't got huge hands but it's ditty I mean actually let me just put it up next to the right
[772.51] NJ: so there's your five inch icon it's a two inch shell yeah it's it's it's pretty it's pretty I
[779.79] NJ: believe I believe it's got a built-in current sensor as well it does now this is one of the
[785.15] NJ: cool things I'm glad you brought that up they've actually gone and put it straight on on the xt 30
[791.07] NJ: so you can it's going to be hard to make out but basically that you can just about see the you see
[795.95] NJ: the shunt on there yeah yeah there's there's your little component for your uh so that that's quite
[801.71] NJ: a nice idea again I don't have great stuff like that if they if it just doesn't come on the board
[805.87] NJ: they're like they'll think of another way to put it on that must link up to a sensor on the
[812.35] NJ: flight controller that I'm guessing yeah because I think most flight controllers these days if they
[817.07] NJ: don't have current sensing on board they'll have the current sense input yeah which this one
[822.59] NJ: obviously does the only thing this is something I have to do a video on I think is the only thing
[828.27] NJ: it is not that is usually terrible on these with the exception of maybe the Maytech stuff is
[834.67] NJ: more often than not the current the calibration of the current sensors usually miles out they
[839.47] NJ: never come set up calibrated well so it's like just plugging it in without turning the motors
[845.15] NJ: it's showing it's drawing one and a half amps which is you know tosh it's not doing that at all
[850.11] NJ: so there needs to be a bit of current sensor calibration done there so I'm going to look at
[857.07] NJ: a few ways to try and do that as pain-free as possible you do that in beta flight messing with
[862.11] NJ: the uh with the scale with the scale that was it yeah because obviously it's dead easy to do the
[867.47] NJ: battery voltage scalings you just literally put you know a multimeter in the back of that in well
[872.59] NJ: you can use the balance port on the furthest than the ground pin of the battery and then check what
[879.87] NJ: you're actually getting as a reading in beta flight and adjust the scale till they match
[883.71] NJ: but it's a little bit more boring having to set up the current sensing but yeah great little micro
[890.67] NJ: um and the one thing they've done right so let me just talk about very quickly
[895.23] Andy: it's quite cheap as well nj i think it's about 145 pounds i think so i live today and it's at 130
[902.91] Andy: so maybe it's probably uh it's probably black friday deals actually thinking that's probably
[909.07] Frank: what it is so and if anyone sees any other black friday deals that they want to post in the chat
[914.59] Frank: and and we'll get a collection of them and share them around in a minute so there's one i should
[920.91] NJ: just talk about quickly on that subject to that micro or micros and f4s um be very careful going
[926.83] NJ: for a micro with f4 because the problem is the f4s are super super sensitive and i think there's
[934.99] NJ: there's a fair few different actual gyro the actual mcus that are used with the f4s
[940.43] NJ: and some of them are just way too sensitive to be hard mounted and a prime example of that
[945.87] NJ: although i've taken this one apart was this guy which was the spc maker uh 90 ng and this was one
[952.91] NJ: that came with just incredible components you know it's got the uh the micro swift it came with uh xm
[960.67] NJ: plus it's got an f4 with both fly osd d shot 600 blah blah blah blah really good micro and i've had
[967.31] NJ: three of these and not one of them flies out the box because the uh it just shakes itself to death
[972.51] NJ: because it can't deal with the vibration um and the one thing they did when putting an f4 on this
[977.79] NJ: ditone again if you can see is they actually soft mounted it in a really clever way so um
[985.23] NJ: yeah if you're looking for any micro with an f4 if it doesn't have soft mounting um you might have
[991.07] NJ: some issues you might not but the more i'm getting of f4 micros that haven't got any kind of dampening
[997.23] NJ: they've got issues um and they need some kind of soft mounting so this is what ditone do well
[1002.35] NJ: though they take their time rather than just rushing to get something out to market um the
[1006.83] NJ: only thing ditone do wrong um for me anyway and i've reviewed pretty much everything ditone have
[1012.27] NJ: put out quad wise is they always put terrible props on on their quads and they always supply
[1018.03] NJ: them with terrible props and they did the same with this they're some bullnose terribly inefficient
[1023.79] NJ: um and not very nice flying tri-blades uh and i swap those out for the gem fan two inch and
[1030.03] NJ: it's yeah night and day difference so but i'm fine with that being the only weakness of ditones
[1035.15] Andy: that's the cheapest thing yeah that's the thing you tend to swap out you tend to swap those out
[1039.95] Andy: anyways on any model i find so it's a disposable part of the quad for me the the props absolutely
[1047.15] NJ: so yeah yeah that's all the goodies i have for now i think there's a few others but i've seen uh

[1263.07] NJ: tendency to to do this yeah i remember tom smith actually a few days after having his
[1268.91] NJ: posting up one on his insta of the whole cage kind of off to the side but i think the biggest
[1273.95] NJ: problem was it it just missed a few more uh kind of lateral struts uh which i think people did as
[1279.87] NJ: a modification and it strengthened that up and it was fine after that um but yeah i haven't actually
[1285.95] NJ: seen the rooster so i'd be interested to have a look what a great name for a quad a yeah but i
[1290.83] NJ: pulled bs uh bms web just said i want the chicken next the uh the other thing that i saw this week
[1300.11] Frank: was the um fai leaderboard um i believe adam guch is currently the the top uh ranking uh uk
[1310.99] Frank: pilot on there at the moment so it sounds like maybe go guch yeah you're doing well um there's
[1318.83] Frank: a lot of uh swiss guys and polish guys and all sorts of people uh on there and it's it's kind of
[1326.67] Frank: an interesting read to see kind of all the events that have been going on that have been um fai
[1331.95] Frank: registered um so for people that don't know the fai is like the world uh kind of official body
[1340.27] Frank: for all aero sports so everything from uh pylon racing so there's like rebel races up to um
[1349.39] Frank: you know air balloons gliders all sorts of things um that and then you you sign up and you get a
[1356.27] Frank: license and and then it means that your points from these international events go towards that
[1362.03] Frank: so i think the ones in the uk were um i think was western park one of them um i think maybe
[1371.55] Frank: and i think there might have been one or two others um but yeah that's an interesting one
[1376.27] Frank: and so it's it's them that are going to be organizing the um international events next
[1381.63] Frank: year uh in shanzhen uh which is uh the event i mentioned a few weeks ago now that the bmfa
[1390.43] Frank: are probably going to sponsor a team all expenses paid to go over um and represent great britain
[1397.79] Frank: so yeah extra incentive to get involved with the uh the racing scene next year though get practicing
[1406.03] Tony: enjoy get practicing yeah um you got your race gimbals come on uh it's uh pretty
[1414.99] NJ: pretty mediocre at racing on the more than the freestyle side no you could easily race
[1422.67] NJ: i might i might be tempted into doing i'd really like to do some indoor races like the the micro
[1427.87] NJ: stuff i'm really keen for the micro side to take off what great jokes um but i they're just so
[1435.95] NJ: they're so good now they fly so well they're so agile i just feel like the micro thing
[1440.67] NJ: on the race front deserves some space or it should do you soon so i'll be up for that for
[1446.99] NJ: for racing racing the micros but i'll be in any race as long as i know it's not a class where
[1454.03] NJ: thomas bit martyrs in uh well he's getting half handed to you yes uh there's any other way to put
[1462.99] NJ: it um so yeah let's let's jump on a class before thomas gets hold of it um but yeah i'd like to i'd
[1469.07] NJ: like to see the micro racing thing get some attention because it's more manageable isn't
[1472.99] NJ: it i think more of us could abuse us a small local hall and yeah darkford have got a nice little um
[1480.91] Tony: there's a guy down in darkford uh he's got a big warehouse and um he sets up normally like the
[1488.11] Tony: weekends or a wednesday night and it's quite big i mean the guys were flying five inch in there no
[1493.39] Tony: problem and i flew him a little two inch push on prop micro quad in there and i had a hell of a
[1500.03] Tony: good fun in there i really really enjoyed it it was um good fun so yeah i'm all for micros as well
[1506.83] Tony: they fly really actually my dan upton two inch push on prop micro quad is probably my favorite
[1514.59] Tony: and probably my best flying quad to be honest i want to know when they're going to do reverse
[1520.59] Frank: not reverse but like flying back props inverted props for the push on props that seems like
[1528.99] Frank: because i have so many that just fly off and ping off and it's i've never had any fly off i crashed
[1535.95] Tony: quite i crashed in my video of the darkford one i crashed into a gate and i guess isn't it
[1543.55] Frank: the the prop shaft uh whether it's the right one for the props um so i guess it's probably
[1550.19] Frank: the prop shaft on this is not to the right tolerance or whatever what do you mean when
[1554.91] Andy: you say push on as in props that don't have any screws in what yeah yeah they can literally
[1560.35] Tony: plastic with a hole in and the shaft the motor and you just push them what size are we talking

[1692.35] NJ: what whatever sim you try they're all getting pretty good um velostrone's great so is um lift
[1698.99] NJ: off now it's coming a long way because it got it got way worse before it got better it's now
[1703.07] NJ: really good um there's there's a whole bunch out there even some free ones that are great um i do
[1708.59] NJ: think it's worth whichever one you go for go for the one that feels like the quad you fly don't
[1713.47] NJ: because the last thing you want to do is to get a quad to fly completely perfect in the sim and
[1717.87] NJ: just feel completely alien to what you fly in real life that defeats the point get it to fly like
[1722.43] NJ: your quad so it feels feels right the rates feel right get it as close as you can and although
[1728.27] NJ: it's tempting to go nuts with the power because with the sims you can put you know success on
[1732.43] NJ: there and it's hilarious fun but does nothing for your real world flying get everything as close as
[1737.15] NJ: possible and then start trying the stuff out that you promise yourself you're going to try out when
[1741.95] NJ: you go to the field but you don't you just go through all 10 batteries and just blast and have
[1746.75] NJ: a load of fun and you may have said to yourself first three batteries i'm just going to try this
[1751.31] NJ: new trick i've been working on in my head and you never do it you just get the field you blast
[1756.27] NJ: so use the sim for that just go over and over a trick that you want to work out and
[1761.87] NJ: it will get you within the ballpark of what it's going to feel like on the
[1765.63] NJ: on the quad and i've done that there's certain maneuvers that are a little more complex that i
[1771.55] NJ: definitely worked on on the sim to get the muscle memory to start to come together so i don't have
[1776.51] NJ: to think about it as much when i do the maneuver on the real quad and it will save you some cash
[1782.03] Frank: because you might not crash as much and the other thing of course i mean it's a long while ago for
[1788.67] Frank: us but i mean there's people still getting into the hobby i mean we i think we kind of forget
[1793.87] Frank: that sometimes that there are a lot of people still just joining the FPV community and
[1800.59] Frank: definitely you know if you don't know what a quad should feel like then get a sim and find out
[1808.11] NJ: totally there's two guys that i've um i'm good friends with um and they both wanted to get into
[1815.71] NJ: it and they both started on sims so the complete opposite ends to the way someone like me has been
[1821.87] NJ: had done it uh completely the opposite way started on the sim went to a quad and i took the guy uh one
[1828.19] NJ: of the guys fairly local to me spent hours and hours and hours on the sim finally got him to go
[1834.27] NJ: and try out the real quad and he got it within three to five flights and then he was doing circuits
[1842.75] NJ: you know it was it was quite remote and i mean three to five flights he was in acro mode
[1847.39] Tony: doing yeah that's that we had that guy that's really impressive we had that guy jack from south
[1852.35] Tony: africa um if you listened back to a year ago on our podcast um he he started out on uh he was a
[1861.55] Tony: gamer um big gamer had lots of youtube uh you know followers and stuff and he he started flying um
[1870.83] Tony: on the sim and then he approached people and said look someone sent me a quad and he got sent
[1877.07] Tony: a quad and he was flying his quad in an acro within for the first few batteries yeah it's totally
[1883.31] NJ: doable it can fly really well i mean it's nothing new it's just not as exciting i think people get
[1890.03] NJ: bored of it quickly but for me it was it was invaluable when i was flying 3d helicopters
[1895.95] NJ: because you just can't afford to crash those things unless you've got a very fat wallet and
[1901.15] NJ: you're happy to spend hundreds and hundreds of pounds every time you come back from the field
[1905.39] NJ: so there was maneuvers uh with the helicopter there's one in particular i really really wanted
[1910.83] NJ: to do called the death spiral which is where you put the helicopter on its side and you basically
[1915.71] NJ: pull with it on its side so it's like a razor blade going towards the ground and as it's free
[1920.75] NJ: falling you pull him back elevator so it sort of spins on its axis and then you bail to invert it
[1926.99] NJ: at the end and the idea of actually doing that on a one and a half thousand pound helicopter
[1932.51] NJ: it had me shaking at the thought of it so i just practiced it to death on the simulator
[1940.03] NJ: you know years and years ago and then went out and did it on the cheapest helicopter i had first
[1944.43] NJ: and it was it was just amazing it was like that felt like it did in sim and after that i thought
[1949.95] NJ: right well this is where to practice stuff um learn to do that stuff there and it'll save you
[1954.75] Andy: a bunch of money so yeah i think sims are totally worth it i i'm i'm the same i actually i never
[1961.87] Andy: flew a helicopter before i learned to fly helicopters purely in a sim and then i went
[1967.23] Andy: and bought a helicopter and i could just fly it like it did in the simulator i was amazed
[1973.15] Andy: um i learned to fly planes in a club i was in a club for like 20 years or something and uh i um
[1981.07] Andy: any and the same same there any sort of new trick i wanted to learn go in a simulator they don't
[1987.15] Andy: have to this is the thing people say what what's the most realistic simulator it doesn't need to be
[1992.75] Andy: completely realistic it just needs to be transferable uh so i went in lift off and did like a trick
[1998.83] Andy: series i was able to do all of the tricks that i can do with a copter i mean yeah that you you
[2004.11] Andy: have to adapt but it you get a different copter you have to adapt how that flies not all copters
[2008.99] Andy: fly the same so um all of the sims are a good uh lift off velocidrone rotor rush even the drl
[2016.99] Andy: simulator after a bit of setup um you have to pay for that one now though uh free free rider i
