https://www.youtube.com/user/neiljonesguitar Andy - https://www.youtube.com/user/TheAndyRC Frank- https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfhaKilBilC3aNwxZJ9u4Rg [0.0] NJ: Hello everyone good to have you all here welcome to let's drone out another episode [11.95] NJ: we can't actually introduce our guest just yet because he's currently racing home to [17.87] NJ: to get to his computer so he can be here but he will be here shortly in the meantime the [22.91] NJ: familiar gang are here there's tone star what you're no do the hello again i really liked it [30.19] Andy: well hello perfect andrey hello andy rc hello and welcome back to my rc channel i'm andy rc [40.83] NJ: and today i'm doing the let's run out podcast hey that's brilliant i like that i really don't [47.07] NJ: have any kind of intro other than hey guys nj here that's it right yeah but that is yours [54.35] NJ: it is mine yes sort of intellectually own it because it's my voice anyway hope everyone's [61.31] NJ: well what what news have we got well we're waiting for albert's turn up well weren't there [66.27] Andy: some sort of i don't know maybe proposed regulations to talk about maybe that's okay [73.07] Andy: go on then what do you know well it was uh i think it was all over the news wasn't it that we're [78.83] Andy: gonna as of 2018 if you want to fly a drone over 250 grams and you're gonna have to take tests and [86.27] Andy: all sorts of things yeah it didn't didn't sound good to me yeah it sounds a bit rubbish so the [92.51] Frank: ball's been passed because the you know when it was first blew up in the media everyone looked [97.79] Frank: to the caa and they said i don't want anything to do with that and that sounds like a lot of work [102.51] Frank: for not solving any problem um so they they passed the ball i didn't mind anything to do [108.11] Frank: with that so then it was given to the department department for transport and they they come up [113.47] Frank: with a few suggestions and spent some money on some research and then said yeah i don't really [118.51] Andy: want to get involved in that yeah i mean who's who's gonna pay for it surely taxes a slot a slot [125.79] Frank: you know it's been uh taken up by the home office and they've gone right well if no one else wants [130.59] Frank: to do it we'll do it because we haven't got anything better to do at the moment and um so [136.75] NJ: i think that the actual wording order would have been we don't want to fix a problem that doesn't [140.83] NJ: exist pass it on to the next person well that's why the home office is involved i'm sure because [146.11] Frank: this is like you know there isn't a problem so they can write some legislation and then they can go [151.87] Frank: look you were so terrified about drones and then we wrote some legislation and now there's no problem [156.83] Andy: we sold it we can take the credit so um there's actually a pretty good video on it um [162.51] Andy: simon newton you know on the kitchen table they did a sort of i think it was like a half an hour [167.95] Andy: talk through of the the regulations what was interesting is like there was a lot of things [173.55] Andy: that the news picked up on like things like oh the police are going to be able to ground you [179.23] Andy: well funnily enough they can already do that i think most people would land their drone if the [184.35] Andy: police walked up behind them anyways um so it was just kind of like it see a lot of it [190.83] Andy: was sort of blown out of proportion i think with the news as it always is because like you know [195.55] Andy: they they they love scaremongering and that's what it is and yeah i i don't i don't think much about [202.35] Andy: it and again it's sort of like just wait and see what happens because i think there's a gonna [207.55] Andy: just as before when you know these things crop up i think there's going to be a huge conflict with [213.39] Andy: um things like the bmfa who already have tests and things in place and insurance and you know [221.63] Andy: so the the people that are are like doing it for a hobby that are going to get punished the most [227.07] Andy: probably already got insurance for fpv and stuff then yeah so the bmfa are actually in talks uh [233.31] Frank: at the moment still working out the details of whether we're going to follow the same rules that [239.07] Frank: er so the european aviation safety agency are putting in place um to kind of solve this problem [247.87] Frank: um where they're going to have national bodies nominated so that any member of that national [253.63] Frank: body kind of circumvents this need for registration um so that kind of grandfathers in [260.11] Frank: all the people who have been flying rc models for for years and years and years [263.95] Frank: and years of problems so we might do the same thing but we might not and in all this legislation [271.23] NJ: is there anything anywhere that actually defines what a drone is yet because they're avoiding this [277.63] Frank: in all the legislation drone is a word for press releases it's not in any [284.59] Frank: technical anywhere just because it doesn't it's it's not a thing it's a voice word isn't it it's [290.59] Andy: a word that everyone goes oh that's a drone kind of thing so what word are they using uh so there's [296.67] Frank: uh suas uh small unmanned aerial systems that's the pretty standard word for it and so that covers [305.23] Frank: anything from you know uh like an old radio controlled icy fixed wing up to a dji inspire [315.07] Tony: so you know it's anything really um they're the people that need targeting not being offensive [322.67] Tony: or anything but the it's the people who just go into the shops and buy dji's and go out and [327.71] Frank: fly them and whatever you know but even now i mean like they've they've got the geofencing [332.91] Frank: on the dji stuff they've got the drone coders absolutely everywhere if you go into a shop and [337.47] Frank: try and buy one it's not like you can miss that it's not the right thing to do now the big problem [343.55] Frank: that actually exists is the prisons as far as i can tell doesn't seem to be any other yeah [349.95] Frank: exactly uh flying you know phones into prisons and things so yeah and that's already illegal [356.99] Frank: so yeah i don't know it's not really solving a problem as far as i can tell it sounds like [362.27] Frank: they've got to define the problem first before they solve anything which they can't for a problem [367.23] Andy: rather than yeah it's a funny one isn't it because if you think about like gun regulation [373.31] Andy: there was a problem first there was a problem with guns and then regulations come in but here [378.67] Andy: they're bringing regulation in before there's a problem and it's like it's it's crazy i think [384.27] Andy: but anyways yeah yeah that happened it was disappointing and every time it happens my [389.71] Andy: comments lie to what what's your opinion on it and my opinion my opinion is usually well [395.95] Andy: until something's set in concrete you know then it's it's speculation it's it's a headline for [402.19] Andy: the daily mail to uh you know make everyone fearful papers yeah yeah i think you enforce [409.15] Tony: anyway i haven't seen a placement in about seven exactly that's the thing i mean there all these [414.11] Frank: things are already illegal um you know endangering people uh flying where you shouldn't you know [420.91] Frank: doing all these things that's already illegal so new laws aren't going to change that what's going [425.87] Frank: to change it is enforcement and you know we've struggled already to try and get that information [432.67] Frank: out to police forces um accurately uh the only times that i've seen the advice to the police [441.87] Frank: um about how to deal with jones the actual details of being wrong about you know saying fpv is [448.59] Frank: illegal when that's not true um so hopefully they've uh behind the scenes sorted that sort of [455.63] Frank: stuff out um i've at least seen that they've been told the reasonable advice of don't try and take [462.67] Frank: over the control of the drone just wait for them to land yeah and that's that's what their advice [468.51] NJ: to do and that seems part of me still thinks there's going to be a point at which the media [472.75] NJ: gets bored with this and something else will come along and then no one will will give a crap again [476.91] Andy: so i don't know you know that's that's all i hope i hope so because at the moment it's like [485.07] Andy: you see the news and like you know my parents sort of say oh is this going to affect you kind [490.35] Andy: of thing and it like if you know that if you're thinking oh i quite like that that sounds like a [496.35] Andy: nice hobby to get into but i'm gone i've read on the news that you need to take a test you need to [501.87] Andy: have insurance oh i won't bother and then is it going to completely kill uh you know um because [508.35] Andy: at the moment there's a lot of technology out there and it's like all the time but is it just [513.47] Tony: going to stop because people i don't think it i don't think they they will want it to stop because [518.83] Tony: it's you know it's a billion dollar industry more than that i hope not it will be in the next five [527.23] Andy: i think what sparked it off is again i think the same happened last year where there's like some [532.51] Andy: sort of survey that says that drones are going to be the biggest sort of christmas presents this [538.67] Andy: year i think that's what i think it's scaremongering for that maybe i don't know the best bit i saw was [545.55] Tony: that a drone reached 35 000 feet i mean yeah a bit squiffy isn't it um yeah my worry at the back of [557.55] Frank: my head like most of the times i'm looking at this going they're gonna realize it's going to [562.59] Frank: be really expensive and not do anything and as soon as the media gets bored they'll put these [568.11] Frank: plans away and forget about it and uh you know and it's just for show and to keep face being [575.07] Frank: politicians um but back in my head i do have a bit of a worry that companies like amazon um with [583.55] Frank: those sort of drone deliveries and the technology behind that that it's actually a bit of economic [591.15] Frank: encouragement to try and keep control of the space and and have some space for for those guys to do [598.19] Frank: their work and do the rnd over here like they've started to do um and maybe this is more leaning [607.47] Frank: towards that way but either way i'm being cynical um whether the government's being just trying to [613.31] Frank: get votes and safe face or just trying to um set up some business further along the line but [622.27] Andy: those are my two thoughts it's kind of hilarious isn't it because on the one hand we're getting [627.23] Andy: prosecuted for a hobby and having thought it out on the other hand amazon are allowed to have [632.91] Andy: autonomous drones flying about the place that no one's in control of it's just ridiculous to me [639.07] Andy: but there you go i got money that's true i think as i said there's there's got to be a whole lot of [646.03] NJ: serious defining uh before any of this as it would you know doesn't get completely laughed [652.83] NJ: out of court so i think we're a long way off off really worrying not saying that there shouldn't [657.31] NJ: be some concern over it because they need to know that we're going to cause them problems if they're [661.95] NJ: going to try and enforce this stuff but i don't consider it a threat right now personally i don't [667.71] NJ: either i'm not actually that worried yeah um so on a more positive note um um leading neatly on [676.59] NJ: the drone's under 250 grams that's our fun like five inch drones um i did get to fly and finally [683.55] NJ: put my review out on the dietone gtr 90 and it is an absolute hoot um flies really well [692.19] NJ: and yeah great camera and i think it's 110 grams all up something like that it's super light [701.71] NJ: and it will run 4s which i'm i'm just waiting to uh to get all right oh yes it's 4s compatible [711.07] Andy: i didn't realize that what 4s batteries are you going for well that was the thing i wasn't quite [715.95] NJ: sure i mean the big problem is that drone on its own the dry weight of the drone without the [720.75] NJ: battery is 75 grams now finding a 4s under 75 grams isn't necessarily that easy and you know [728.35] NJ: having the battery weight the same as the quad is obviously not great i've actually just got some [734.67] Andy: of these and these were the smallest i could find there are 550 milliamp 4s you've got a scale next [741.39] Andy: to you uh yes actually uh or have i oh i thought the next question if the answer to this is good [750.11] Andy: say look sorry that's okay tony i've expected ridicule let's have a look let's see [757.71] Andy: it weighs are you ready for this have you got a post bag ready to with my dress on it [764.83] Andy: i've got a few of them i got another one here i actually bought this for a three inch [770.51] Andy: what what do you reckon let's uh so it's so 550 milliamp 4s 70c what weights do you reckon well [778.19] Andy: if you take that stupid connector off it that's true let's take the stupid connector off what [783.63] Andy: was that i'll be 65 grams uh i can't get the connector off glued on yes hold on i can't get [792.75] Andy: it off yeah okay okay okay with the connector on 59 grams well there you go now my only problem [801.39] NJ: with those xf is that the xf battery from there that's the one where i got five of them and two [806.75] NJ: of them were good and the others had colossal internal resistance problems yeah i found that [812.11] Andy: with them actually but they were the smallest ones i could find and i actually got it for a [817.23] Andy: three inch model because i want it because i've been flying my three inch models on 850 milliamp [824.99] Andy: and people like people have got a real problem in the comments about the battery looking like a big [831.95] Tony: brick underneath it does look funny i've got my my three inch revo and it just looks like you're [839.95] Andy: flying around a brick underneath okay i've managed i've managed to get the thing off so that weighs [845.95] Andy: one one point one point four grams so it is weighing now 50 58 grams not bad that sounds [854.99] NJ: pretty spot on to me so um i think that's the one to try out on the gpr 90 so yeah it won't [863.95] NJ: blow up it is forest compatible but um yeah there is another battery actually tattooed to [870.03] NJ: a 450 milliamp which is quite light and it's 75 c and that's a battery manufacturer i definitely [876.19] Tony: trust in terms of their c rating and quality can you really get 75 c out of that smaller battery [881.23] NJ: though if the sound density is high enough yeah absolutely yeah it's when they're suspiciously [886.83] NJ: like that you start to think hmm it may when it's new but uh the price of tattoo batteries is [894.51] NJ: horrendous though isn't it do you know how much these are they're 11 pounds each tattoos for 450 [901.15] Andy: i think this was four pounds so if it's crap maybe but four pounds man that's you know that's [907.63] NJ: not bad yeah i might order the tattoos just to know what a really premium battery is gonna [913.39] Andy: perform i am i bought a 6s tattoo battery for one of my 6s models 45 pound [920.75] Andy: for one battery that's a lot longer in it that was from direct from uh i can't remember the [927.55] Andy: company that that's recently changed hams hasn't it who provide tattoo batteries i can't remember [934.27] Andy: off the top of my head but if you go direct it's expensive yeah no i'm interested to try that uh [942.83] Andy: it's it's on the way i didn't realize it was 4s that's amazing so is it is it xt30 and yeah i [948.19] NJ: can't remember it is yeah that's cool with the current sensor calibrating drastically [953.95] Andy: uh yeah yeah that looks cool though hopefully i should get that yeah you know what it's funny [959.23] Andy: when we talk about all these uh weight limits etc the majority of the models that come in my way [964.83] Andy: now are like three inch two inch you've only got like you know a handful of five inch rtf models [973.55] Andy: but the micro is winter no but i mean i i think that's been the case all year and i'm happy to [980.67] Andy: see that you know i think i think people who um are more into the five inch class really want to [987.39] Andy: build their own it's and and with the micros it's you know they're they're more stealth and [994.51] Andy: people don't want to i tell you what as well micros are really tricky to build i've built [999.63] Andy: a lot of them and uh you know you really have to be good at the micro sold in so i think that's [1005.47] Andy: that may be why as well and you know they're they're a little bit cheaper as well these days [1011.79] NJ: so so interestingly on the subject of uh of winter flying like i just despise the cold like [1019.15] NJ: you wouldn't believe i i can't survive for more than five seconds in the cold without starting [1023.31] NJ: to winch um but i did fly um when i was out testing that gtr 90 i went to the local retail [1030.83] NJ: park which is where i usually do my night flying uh with that little micro and uh that was my first [1036.27] NJ: encounter with the police i was there with my friend rob who's in the chat um and we had [1040.83] NJ: the internal car lights were on and i was just sat inside the car flying with the seat heaters on [1046.51] NJ: and my commander's on and as just literally i was at the end of the battery i was swinging around [1051.79] NJ: and i was like i think a police car is coming up here but i was still mid-flight and i couldn't [1056.03] NJ: come into land because the police car was driving around where where we were so i didn't really want [1060.59] NJ: to then fly in front of the police car and anyway i kind of hovered behind the police car the police [1066.27] NJ: car stopped and so rob tells me the guy just kind of looked in saw me smiling with my goggles on in [1073.39] NJ: the driver's seat and they just saw me with teeth yeah well he just saw that and the goggles literally [1078.83] NJ: stared for a minute turned his head away and just drove off i'm sure uh i'm sure he's seeing a lot [1084.67] Andy: worse peering into cars at night yeah just really looked in and went i'm out i don't know what you're [1090.67] NJ: doing but i'm out and turned around drove off didn't didn't care at all um but yeah the main [1096.99] NJ: thing i was getting to was um absolutely fine flying from the car the video was fine we did a [1103.07] NJ: little bit of a range test the range was fine so yeah there's there's kind of for me that's it now [1109.15] NJ: when i'm flying outside i'm going to do it from the car right that's what i have to do so i think [1115.79] NJ: we have albert in the chat albert how are you good how are you neil yeah good man good to have [1121.79] Albert Kim: you i had some uh technical problems i i tried to connect to you guys with my phone and it doesn't [1127.47] NJ: let me do that oh that's weird okay so you're on the pc instead yeah i had to dig out my laptop [1134.03] NJ: so so so what time is it is it there for you now it is about 12 15 and you're in sunny california [1141.15] Tony: is that right yeah sorry yeah yeah yeah we're talking about how cold it is it's from three [1148.43] Albert Kim: degrees today and snowed oh seriously wow it's about 70 degrees over here and sunny and it's [1156.19] Andy: cold for me this is how albert puts two videos a day out because he's got constant sunshine [1164.67] Andy: and i have to sit i have to sit here waiting for the rain to stop i get a third second window [1172.03] NJ: yes a few of us were wondering albert we were we were contemplating whether you were actually [1177.23] NJ: a robot with the the sheer number of videos you managed in such a short 12 you know 24 hours [1184.67] Albert Kim: but i um i have a like i guess i have a pretty good workflow i i just film a bunch of videos [1191.39] Albert Kim: all at once usually like on the weekends and sometimes like actually if i weren't wasn't [1195.95] Albert Kim: on the podcast with you guys i'd probably be flying right now i usually fly during my lunch [1201.39] Albert Kim: breaks you know like wherever i can there's like parks down the street from where i can fly so i [1205.95] Albert Kim: fly micros all the time so i can just uh you know during the 30 minute break get like five six [1212.43] Albert Kim: batteries in and i have lots and lots of like footage i have 30 videos i need to edit that are [1219.63] Albert Kim: sitting on my my pc's hard drive like i just don't have time to edit there's just i'm way way behind [1225.23] Andy: right now albert i'm i'm glad that you've come on because i'm able to thank you face to face now [1230.43] Andy: because uh what happened was i was flying my floss frame and i broke an arm and albert saw that he [1238.59] Andy: sent me he bought more arms he sent me i tried to give him money he wouldn't have it absolute legend [1245.31] Andy: my floss my floss is sitting up there now with all four arms intact so thank you very much you're [1253.31] Albert Kim: very welcome my uh my floss build has been cursed what happened well i haven't really [1259.39] Albert Kim: get that video out i don't know what's wrong every time i i put it together something is [1264.67] Albert Kim: wrong with a part usually i'm testing apart so like i put something in i'm testing and then [1269.55] Albert Kim: you know like for when you see doesn't work or not working so i've built that thing like twice [1274.67] Albert Kim: now and each time i take it out to fly it doesn't fly and i'm like oh man so i just put it on the [1278.43] Albert Kim: shop and i'll get back to it later yeah put that video out yeah it's just yeah what what i really [1284.03] Andy: what i really dislike about being a reviewer is that if i i don't really have one complete [1290.35] Andy: copter because they all end up getting stripped apart because someone will send me like a run cam [1296.99] Andy: and i'm like it's it's not the perfect component that that i want but i need to test it so like [1303.71] Andy: all my copters have like two or three components that aren't the best but i had to switch them for [1309.47] Albert Kim: the review i'm sure you're there yeah and all of my copters are franken copters now it's ridiculous [1316.19] NJ: so albert i've got to ask because obviously this is your your first time on the show [1320.35] NJ: how did you get into the hobby and was your background in other aircraft or was it i'll see [1325.39] NJ: other stuff i mean what what how long ago did you get into it and and how i mean i've been flying [1330.75] Albert Kim: for about two years and i before i got into rc like about two years ago i didn't know anything [1338.11] Albert Kim: about rc never never did like a rc car or plane or anything like that and i think i saw some videos [1345.39] Albert Kim: from flight test back then you know 2015 ish and i was like oh okay that's kind of interesting [1350.83] Albert Kim: but i didn't want to build anything so the first plane i i bought was a e-flight umx radian [1357.47] Albert Kim: and um that's yeah it's really really uh it's a really good beginners plane um easy to fly [1365.31] Albert Kim: that's how i learned to fly kind of sad good way and line of sight and yeah that's how my youtube [1371.95] Albert Kim: channel started as well i was like okay i'll just put some videos up um i met uh a fellow named [1378.51] Albert Kim: jeff yang he's seven seven demo seven on youtube oh yeah he kind of lives he kind of lives near [1383.55] Albert Kim: where i live it's about 15 miles maybe 10 miles away and we got you know we got to being friends [1389.39] Albert Kim: and we start flying together you know i start flying airplanes and stuff with him and he had [1394.19] Albert Kim: a youtube channel he's like okay i'll start youtube channel see why not just put up videos [1397.63] Albert Kim: all my videos from the very very beginning are still on my channel you can go back two years and [1401.55] NJ: see how bad those videos are no i think we've got some bad bad videos from early on people do forget [1409.55] NJ: to look back i mean uh we're a really good one actually if you if you think certain people are [1415.39] NJ: just immortal incredible like untouchable pilots i mean even johnny fpv gun look at his first [1421.79] NJ: videos you know really kind of janky and not not the person that we see now and and absolutely [1427.55] NJ: love to watch fly and yeah i've got i've certainly got some some pretty shoddy uh early flights so [1435.31] Albert Kim: i cringe when i when i look back at my old videos like oh my god i flew like that like [1439.39] Andy: it's this terrible my uh my first video was a review of a phone power bank [1449.31] Andy: completely nothing to do with fpv but they know how did that fly uh it was it was all right it [1457.23] Andy: charged my phone but it didn't fly very well but uh i had no followers so i didn't care it's probably [1462.67] Andy: got about 70 views or something but there you go that's the question that's a good video if i get [1476.99] Andy: 70 views oh you get loads of views be quiet yeah albert uh there's a question in the chat um how do [1486.51] Frank: you like the bold clash b06 for indoor woop replacement the b06 i think as a brushless uh [1494.43] Albert Kim: indoor micro it's okay i mean it's honestly like for small indoor spaces the six millimeter and [1502.19] Albert Kim: seven millimeter brushed micro your tiny lips are just fine they're fast enough you know you can [1507.39] Albert Kim: still move around i mean obviously you can't do like acro tricks inside the house but i wouldn't [1512.51] Albert Kim: do that with a with the b06 anyway but but the motors but the motors burn up though albert [1518.67] Andy: you know okay i'm told mine never burn up but that's what i'm talking about i have had uh some [1524.83] Albert Kim: burn up on me but what actually happens to the brushed the brushed ones in my case is the [1531.79] Albert Kim: fets actually burn up after a while yeah yeah especially on the older boards where they have [1537.87] Albert Kim: like the two amp bets or the one amp bets those those don't last very long but i know that now [1542.83] Albert Kim: that there's a newer uh board that i think isheen just came out with that has like an osc and [1548.51] Albert Kim: everything that has like 10 amp that house so i'm like that shouldn't burn out now be [1552.83] Andy: be called v2 i think it's cold isn't it i think yeah yeah i think i'm gonna be getting one of [1557.87] Andy: this are you getting one of those two yeah me too i'll be coming up on the channel shortly [1562.59] Albert Kim: it might not have shown up yet seems like you seem to get everything so much faster than me i'm like [1567.47] Albert Kim: how's he gonna so quick that's why i think about you know i think about you hang on a second these [1575.15] NJ: companies are playing this off against each other aren't they they are i do you know what i think [1578.91] Andy: they said right we'll send this one to that person this one's about person and then when [1583.07] Andy: they both find out they'll both be annoyed i think that's what's going on that is totally [1588.91] Andy: random do you know what though i love it when someone gets stuff before me because then i'm [1592.35] Andy: like well you've got all the information already i think i think you can definitely learn off [1600.43] Albert Kim: people's reviews definitely yeah i think so i try not to watch too many other reviews nowadays [1607.15] Albert Kim: because i want to form my own opinions about stuff before i see other people's reviews [1611.71] Andy: i hate it i hate it when like um you receive something and you can't get it to work so then [1617.87] Andy: you search and then you realize you're the first one to get it so then you have to come up with the [1624.11] Andy: the uh the way to solve it that happens that happens a lot that was a lot yeah but it's [1630.83] Albert Kim: okay i think now it now that i've seen so much stuff you kind of have an idea like okay this [1636.03] Albert Kim: is probably what's wrong with it so okay this is this is kind of the direction i need to go try and [1640.19] Albert Kim: fix it and then get it up in the air no it's not too bad nowadays so one thing i've i've noticed [1645.87] NJ: i mean you've you've got a real uh kind of affinity for the real uh the smaller quads i [1652.11] NJ: know you do review all different sizes but unless that shelf of yours is actually really far away [1657.79] NJ: i'm going to assume those are all the tiny quads yeah those are those are all the mikers let me [1662.03] Andy: see if i can wow oh my goodness all right let's have them all piled up on top of each other [1669.71] Albert Kim: and that's not even everything that's just like i don't know maybe a third [1673.55] Albert Kim: the rest of them are in the other room and the big ones are up top right gotcha [1680.19] Albert Kim: i i just like yeah it's just kind of crazy just they're coming they're coming so fast [1684.51] NJ: so fast now so is there one bearing in mind you obviously have quite a large turnaround here to [1690.75] NJ: get through and review all of these and you probably every time you go in the field you've [1693.55] NJ: got two or three you've just got to fly for review purposes is there any one that you [1697.71] NJ: tend to find goes back in the bag anyway just because it's a really good fun to fly i'm not [1702.19] NJ: necessarily saying a favorite but one that you've you've kind of got on well with and flies well [1707.31] NJ: nicely for you yeah the leader 120 i keep in the car there you go that's exactly the same thing [1713.47] Albert Kim: yeah so like if uh i take like three quads out to the three mikers to the park and like [1719.07] Albert Kim: i've had those instances where all three of them don't work and i'm like okay well it's all 30 [1724.99] Albert Kim: minutes i'll burn some packs and the leader went wait that'll fly yeah it's it's great i mean it [1729.55] NJ: had to make a few little upgrades to that one myself like putting the the rung cam in like [1733.79] NJ: you did uh but it just there's something that flies great about it the board in it's well [1738.91] NJ: matched it just pigeons like a dream and yeah it's loads of fun to fly and put the uh the [1745.79] Albert Kim: gem fans the new gem fans on the 2540s you'll really like it so these are the triple uh [1750.75] NJ: the tribolones let me see if i uh have one here i've just seen them on the uk amazon actually [1755.71] NJ: so i'll order some tonight oh okay and you you prefer these over there 2035 quads they the [1763.39] Albert Kim: so i'm i'm i'm i think i'm the one i told you about the uh four bladed ones the ones that kind [1767.55] NJ: of put together yeah so that's what i've got on on your recommendation that's what i've got on [1772.35] NJ: them on the leader now and it's great with those albeit it's a little bit over propping those [1778.35] NJ: 1104s a little bit so i've had to raise the motor idle a touch because they're two and a half [1783.71] Albert Kim: uh inch wide as opposed to two so um yeah yeah so uh actually these are more efficient than the [1792.03] Albert Kim: 2535s oh great you draw less amps and you get just as much power and they're quieter too [1799.47] NJ: really okay you should definitely be ordering some of those and they're 2040 2540s 2540s yeah [1807.15] NJ: oh okay they're 2.5 yeah but they yeah they won't fit on like 100 frames [1815.71] Albert Kim: they won't fit in there yeah the two inch frames they won't fit on but they'll fit on the leader [1818.59] Albert Kim: the leader will take up to 2.8 inch prop i believe yeah oh albert the thing i was going to say to you [1824.11] NJ: as well let me just grab this other quad here in that gt review i did recently um yeah did you [1831.47] NJ: notice i mentioned the notorious yeah the flight controller do you know that you know for an [1840.27] NJ: unknown reason to me they sent me three of these thank you three of those three yeah they sent me [1847.63] NJ: one and i just thought well this is completely unusable and you'd already put out your video [1852.59] NJ: calling it a lemon which you're absolutely right because it was unflyable and shook itself to death [1856.83] NJ: and then they just kept turning up a few days later a second one turned up a few days later [1862.03] NJ: no idea why but yeah i'll have to reframe these i guess it's almost like they knew that [1867.23] Andy: they mostly weren't working so we'll send three just in case yeah oh my god so nj for anyone [1875.23] NJ: listening wanting to avoid it was it called again so it's the spc maker 90ng um that is the one [1883.63] NJ: and so much money like 190 pounds i think for us in the uk yeah i think there's a deal i saw some [1890.91] NJ: of my commenters say on the gtr 90 at the minute and i've seen some people have been able to pick [1896.11] NJ: that up for instead of 130 which is a great deal anyway 100 100 for 100 pounds you could get the [1901.79] NJ: gt 90 using a banggood email offer i think um and if you can get it for that and find a way to get [1908.51] NJ: a coupon to get get it for 100 then that's massive steal i mean it's awesome milk i mean it's good [1915.95] Albert Kim: for that price it's good for the parts to just put it in another frame that's what i mean that's [1920.11] Albert Kim: why in my video i just took the parts up in a different frame and made sure the flight [1923.39] Albert Kim: controller was soft mounted to eliminate the vibrations oh sorry you mean this one the 90ng [1929.15] NJ: yeah yeah that's that's why unless um you know the the gt the gtr 90 oh okay the one with that [1937.95] NJ: one i got um a spare one of those little moldable stacks and i'm wondering whether i could get one [1944.83] NJ: of those stacks to fit in there talking about this one here right that guy yeah so yeah this one [1950.03] Albert Kim: uh and i won't this one probably won't fit in there i don't know it might but might do if we [1955.71] NJ: cut sort of trim down the uh the height slightly perhaps yeah it's possible maybe but uh yeah [1963.95] Andy: we've got uh we've got droning on in the chat and he's saying that i'm not subscribed to him you [1968.99] Andy: git well i'll tell you i'll tell you i am subscribed to you and a lot of people tell me [1974.83] Andy: this but i wouldn't pay attention to the thing on youtube that says who subscribed to you because [1981.31] Andy: uh it's not accurate um but i am subscribed to droning on i i watched your videos how rude [1992.75] Andy: anyway sorry to sorry to sorry to and why isn't he on here sorry okay [1998.75] NJ: carry on just quickly uh yule adams said did you dump 3.2 dynamic on it and i presume you're [2006.91] NJ: talking about the dynamic filters on this one so just a super quick summary the f4s are very very [2013.47] NJ: sensitive to noise and they particularly don't like high frequency noise which these guys are [2017.71] NJ: going to do a lot more than uh than uh the larger five inch quads do so if you're going to have an [2024.35] NJ: f4 in a micro it really does need to be soft mounted that's not something that can be fixed [2028.51] NJ: with dynamic filters uh just to quickly answer that question yeah actually it's very neil it's [2033.47] Albert Kim: specific to the gyro that's on that's kind of combined with that f4 so the 90ng comes with that [2039.39] Albert Kim: 32k gyro those need to be soft mounted the ones that come with the mpu 6000 they can only do 8k [2045.31] Albert Kim: those don't those are not a sensitive to vibration absolutely yeah the mc it was the same with some [2050.83] NJ: of the f3s do you remember the x which is the xsr uh the the the freesky flight controller that [2059.07] NJ: had the receiver built in that came with that same super noisy gyro the mcu9 something the 9050 [2067.55] NJ: and that was horrific yeah that's also a bit very bad yeah but yeah i'd completely agree the mcu1000 [2074.51] NJ: is a fabulous fabulous gyro and that's the one bodice recommends yeah so if you get the um [2079.87] Albert Kim: the flight controllers with they come from hglrc those have the f4s with the mpu 6000s and those [2085.95] Albert Kim: are very good you don't need to worry as much about soft mounting those but then uh you're not [2091.47] Albert Kim: going to be able to run those up at the uh you can't run 32k enough but it doesn't matter i mean [2098.11] NJ: 8k is good enough yeah 20 honey even the gtr 90 i did say that in the review i just all of my [2105.39] NJ: micros 8k 8k accelerometers you need it and for the answer crash the gtr 90 will do 32k it does [2113.63] Albert Kim: have the uh the the icm series gyro but it's a it's a different series that's the nine sorry it's [2120.11] Albert Kim: a 20680 i think it's a not as sensitive as the other one that's in the 90ng but they they've you [2128.19] Albert Kim: know they've soft mounted the flight controller in this one they've got the nice little silicon [2132.35] Albert Kim: grommet so you know that's why this one that's why this one flies better yeah it's just classic [2138.11] NJ: diatone though they they take their time they don't rush stuff to market and they usually come [2142.27] NJ: up with some cool little innovations as well so they actually fly them and test them yeah [2149.47] NJ: andy what was it i sent to you earlier because i was going to send this to albert as well spc [2153.55] NJ: maker have now just put a new quad out and it's in the new products page on banggood i know 100 [2161.47] Andy: something or other and i i ignored it straight away just because the last two sbc maker quads [2167.31] Andy: i've got they come in a lovely a nice little package that you can carry around but that's [2172.43] Andy: all that's good for because uh they just don't fly very nice so yeah i i think that they have [2179.95] Albert Kim: someone over there that grabs all the nice parts but yeah they put them together and the construction [2185.55] Albert Kim: is you know kind of not very good they really stop them and get a really quick and no one flies [2190.83] Albert Kim: them over there they all kind of with defaults like they just flash whatever their latest beta [2195.23] Albert Kim: flight is they don't tune it at all so i mean i mean they never they don't even fly the silly [2200.91] Albert Kim: i get them and then like they just twitch on the bench without any props on like obviously [2204.99] Andy: no one's flown this it's funny isn't it i think a lot of the quads that all of us reviewers like [2210.59] Andy: are quads that actually get test flown so we mentioned the leader 120 earlier and according [2216.43] Andy: to lewis from full speed he says they all get test flown and and that's a that's a huge thing [2222.35] Albert Kim: they they should do really that's an absolute given they actually must do that and so one of [2231.65] Frank: the questions in the chat earlier albert was um what what's your preferred size of quads because [2238.69] Frank: i mean we were talking about how you know now it's kind of miserable over here we need to get into [2243.73] Frank: like the micros and tiny tiny things and then with the laws coming in even in the summer we're [2249.33] Frank: going to be looking at the sub 250 um size uh so that we can still fly but um what's what's your [2258.93] Albert Kim: preference you know these days i pretty much am flying only the two and two and a half inch [2265.17] Albert Kim: models uh there's going to be a lot more three inch models coming up but uh you need a little [2269.97] Albert Kim: more space to fly those are really fast i mean that i don't know if you saw the xjb 145 that [2275.49] Albert Kim: thing is a freaking rocket ship and a lot of play a lot of the parks i fly in are kind of smaller [2280.69] Frank: so yeah so we're coming up against the sort of park flyer problem that there was with the [2287.01] Frank: the fixed wing stuff and and you know like that with the quads yeah with the uh the two and two [2292.77] Albert Kim: and f inch micros i can fly pretty much any park they're not as noisy even on three s and uh they're [2299.17] Albert Kim: not super super fast so you know these parks are like maybe 200 meters are probably fine [2305.09] Albert Kim: but then you get to the three inch where i'm flying four s way too this parks are too small [2310.21] Andy: for for those do you get do you get hassled albert's like what are the laws like i'm obviously [2316.53] Andy: california you know heavily populated what about like what are people's sort of reaction to you [2323.41] Andy: turning up with a quadcopter do you ever get hassled by the public by the police or anything [2328.37] Albert Kim: i have never been hassled by uh anybody in terms of like okay you should not be flying that like [2334.53] Albert Kim: you should leave i've had people come up and ask questions about stuff i mean you show up at a park [2339.57] Albert Kim: with one of these two inch micres they're just not going to care okay yes yeah exactly and as you [2345.09] NJ: were saying earlier about the these excuse me the three inch and two inch thing this really marks [2351.41] NJ: difference in the amount of noise a three inch makes compared to a two inch the two inch are [2355.57] NJ: almost silent yeah but the three inch of where the noise really starts to uh to to make you know [2361.81] NJ: something that's noticed you're on your own whenever i see you fly anyway there's no one [2367.97] Albert Kim: around you just got sunshine in a beautiful field to play yeah i you know um i try to do that because [2375.65] Albert Kim: i i i'm kind of busy and i don't want i don't want to be interrupted by people because then [2379.81] Albert Kim: i've been in situations where i'm around people and they come from they ask you questions they [2383.01] Albert Kim: go would you buy that like how much is it and i end up wasting 30 minutes talking them yes i don't [2388.77] Albert Kim: want to be rude i want to like you know you know i want to be helpful and stuff but then at the same [2393.17] Albert Kim: time i don't have a lot of time to talk to people about stuff because i want to i'd rather just test [2398.61] Albert Kim: them and make my videos and uh you know get on with stuff because uh i don't actually do this full [2403.81] Andy: time i don't know if you guys knew that and i actually i'm so i'm so surprised because like [2409.57] Andy: i do do this full time and you put out more content than me [2415.49] Albert Kim: how do you do it i i film uh i just film everything when i'm flying basically whenever i go and fly [2423.17] Albert Kim: i just film film film and i just monster loads of video footage and then i'd edit everything [2428.53] Albert Kim: on the weekends um i usually can edit 10 videos in a weekend wow oh my gosh yeah you see i don't [2437.33] Andy: i don't work like that at all the video that you see uploaded today is the video i made today [2442.77] Andy: yeah and i think i think a lot of it is i mean what time does it go dark there in california [2447.97] Andy: about five p.m six p.m about five p.m now about five by thirty so the the light here at the moment [2454.21] Andy: after after half past two is useless absolute useless yeah so i get up at i get up at six a.m [2462.37] Andy: with a looking to fly it's about nine o'clock and uh it by two o'clock is absolutely unusable light [2470.13] Albert Kim: so uh yeah that's i'm usually flying during my lunch breaks you know like 12 ish so the sun's [2476.85] Albert Kim: up in the middle of the sky it's you know pretty bright so is that um is that where you've got that [2482.05] Andy: big lake that i see or is it a pond or something like that i've seen quite a bit of footage it's [2487.09] Andy: like a big building and then like a an area of water next to you maybe no maybe not [2496.13] Albert Kim: i don't really i don't usually fly around lakes so i'm going to see someone else's video [2500.37] Andy: no i think it was your video i'm sure it's really maybe it's a body of water you've never noticed [2505.97] Albert Kim: or left for you that's impossible but maybe it maybe looks like a body of water but it's not i [2510.53] NJ: mean it's possible right now um yeah go ahead i'll just quickly uh just drop in the chat so [2517.73] NJ: everyone can see this there is a link to the uh the new spc maker that we are talking about and [2526.61] NJ: do not lie this is the one again loads of premium components if you have a look there but the thing [2531.65] NJ: that leaves me worried i can see a hard mounted a hard mounted flight controller again so back to [2538.37] NJ: what we were saying have they test flown it are you going to get it out of it uh i'm actually not [2546.13] Albert Kim: sure which one you're talking about is it the 110ng it's called it was a vt it's called the spc maker [2553.17] NJ: 110 vt is that for two and a half inch props i think so uh i have to see i have to see what kind of [2564.29] Albert Kim: a gyro it has if it has a mp6000 i'd review it if it has the other one i'm probably not going to [2568.85] NJ: review it yeah i can't see maybe they have some info on the gyro but it is just down to the gyro [2574.85] NJ: if they've hard mounted it that gyro is going to be super important but i can't see any mcu [2581.57] NJ: information here so maybe they've chosen to hide it that's possible yeah let me look it up um [2591.81] NJ: where's the uh the chat i don't know if i can actually just post this straight in the chat [2596.93] NJ: everything's changed on google hangouts where's the chat now oh there is okay so it's this one [2603.25] Andy: there you go you should i also i i think with the amount of uh sort of duds that have been released [2610.05] Andy: at all even if you come out with a review and say this is actually pretty good i i think people [2615.65] Andy: will be put off with it just just because of the the past and speaking of the past um albert i don't [2623.73] Andy: know if you've got chance to check out the topsky goggles did you i can't remember you did um have [2630.13] Albert Kim: you been uh contact those goggles really you're joking right seriously okay i i actually have them [2640.53] Albert Kim: and i'm not going to review them because uh i i didn't i i tried them out they didn't i didn't [2645.81] Albert Kim: like them and i just figured there's no point in beating a dead horse because that thing's been [2652.21] Albert Kim: pretty much destroyed in the reviews anyway so i'm like i'm not going to bother you know [2656.13] Albert Kim: throwing in the bad reviews so i just those move on to other stuff so i got contacted yesterday [2661.01] Andy: to say that they fixed all the problems and would i like to check them out so i said well i wouldn't [2667.97] Andy: like to check them out but i'm interested to see if they fix the problems so hopefully uh you know [2674.21] Andy: i'm gonna check them out but goggles i i find are the worst thing to review because it's all [2680.37] Andy: opinion based because you know you really have to try goggles on to know whether you like them or [2685.89] Albert Kim: not but it's it's so subjective and so it's like hard to really you know if you look at a reviewer's [2693.25] Albert Kim: opinion i mean they might like it for whatever reason then you might not like it because you [2697.41] Albert Kim: have different reasons it's so subjective and personal yeah that's the beauty about having so [2702.85] Andy: many different opinions you know so it's good to to have loads of different reviewers and stuff [2708.53] Andy: i just hope they can like i want the top sky company to succeed i do in fact like read when [2715.81] Andy: you read all the comments like they're saying that basically it's pretty much bankrupted them [2721.33] Andy: for a mile reviews but you know i really want to see them succeed so i hope i hope that um [2727.57] Andy: they can come back strong i'm skeptical but i'll get i'll give anyone a chance it just [2733.41] NJ: so there's so many conflicting things about those goggles like there's you know the aesthetic design [2738.21] NJ: was they they look really cool but there was just so much that was it just felt like they'd not [2744.85] NJ: spoken to anyone any single one pilot that uses actual goggles and and actually fpvs which could [2752.13] NJ: have saved them a fortune in one like 15 minute chat with any one of those people and i find that [2757.89] NJ: just an incredible oversight from the rnd perspective i mean even and i just continue [2764.69] NJ: to find problems with things like having no settings persistence i just felt that insane [2769.41] NJ: like how can you have something that forgets all your settings the minute you pull the power [2773.89] NJ: um yeah it was it just went on and on with that and yeah interestingly though andy i never got a [2780.05] NJ: never got a single contact from tops guy uh over my review um maybe it was the uh the hair dryer [2787.65] NJ: for the eyes yeah fan that does a million rpm yeah bizarre all right well we should probably [2798.13] NJ: let albert go and i think we're actually going to possibly wrap this one up a little bit earlier [2803.01]
