[260.08] Andy Shen: So, that's how I eventually, you know, migrated to racing drones.
[267.02] Jack: And, yeah, I can see that you've got, like, a little selection of stuff behind you.

[276.06] Jack: Because on the episode of Droners, you're working on, like, the plus configuration.

[316.94] Andy: Do you find with the plus configurations that because there are less of them about that
[321.82] Andy: the sort of, like, tune on flight control isn't sort of dialed in as it is on a quad
[328.86] Andy: just because of how much sort of resource goes into the quadcopter configuration?

[334.7] Andy Shen: I mean, on beta flight now, you can just take most, you know,
[338.54] Andy Shen: five inch quads and it'll fly great on the stock tune.
[342.14] Andy Shen: But the pluses need a little more work, but it's not it's not that hard.
[347.34] Tony: What's it like flying down low through gates and things?
[351.34] Andy Shen: It's really no different.
[352.78] Andy Shen: Most of the time, you just forget what you're flying after a while.
[356.3] Andy Shen: You know, I've had one plus a long time ago, you know,
[361.82] Andy Shen: it gave to one of the guys to fly and he had, you know, he kind of pounded it on the ground
[367.5] Andy Shen: of a camera, tilt it down.
[368.7] Andy Shen: He started to see the front motor and he just kind of freaked out because he thought he was
[373.1] Andy Shen: still flying an X and he thought the camera had turned screaming.
[376.86] Andy Shen: It was like, it's okay. It's okay.
[379.18] Andy Shen: But most of the time, once you get going, you know, it does fly a little bit differently,
[382.86] Andy Shen: but most of the time you just kind of forget about the whole configuration.
[386.14] Tony: I bet cornering is pretty good.
[389.66] Andy Shen: Yeah, it's kind of hard to explain what it feels like.
[394.14] Andy Shen: Some people say it's more like a plane.
[397.98] Andy Shen: You know, the guy I control that was in that video with me, he finds it like really,
[403.82] Andy Shen: really snappy on roll.
[406.62] Andy Shen: So, you know, everyone has like a different way of, you know, say of verbalizing.

[426.3] Jack: firmware layout because everything's optimized for X rather than plus?
[431.5] Andy Shen: You mean, oh, you mean the lap times we were doing?

[435.18] Andy Shen: We haven't been able to go back out there because Mike was so he had Sebring coming up
[440.06] Andy Shen: and he didn't really want to touch anything else.

[443.26] Andy Shen: So we haven't really had a chance to, you know, to go back.
[446.62] Andy Shen: And now he's actually gone to a top mounted configuration because he feels like that
[453.5] Andy Shen: mimics he flies a lot of simulators.
[456.78] Andy Shen: And he he practices mostly on simulators and he feels like the simulators can't replicate
[464.06] Andy Shen: a bottom battery kind of that kind of wash out in the cornering effect.
[469.1] Andy Shen: So and he also flies so fast that he almost doesn't he fly with he flies ahead of visual
[477.18] Andy Shen: input.
[478.62] Andy Shen: You know, so it's really critical for him to that the quad does exactly what he expects
[483.82] Andy Shen: because he's doing things before he actually sees them, you know, a little bit on the memory
[488.62] Andy Shen: of a horse.
[490.22] Andy Shen: And so he needs the quad and the simulator to match so closely that he feels like a top
[497.02] Andy Shen: mounted, you know, where the CG is right on the prop line.
[500.22] Andy Shen: That's what the simulator is is modeled after.
[503.5] Andy Shen: So that's what he's been going off on.
[506.06] Andy Shen: So I haven't been able to get him back on the plus.

[511.74] Jack: A few people are saying, you know, would be saying, as they listen to the podcast,
[518.46] Jack: can you describe a plus configuration and like what you why you thought it the differences
[525.66] Jack: and why you thought they might it might be better?
[529.26] Andy Shen: Well, the main thing is the, you know, the props get more clean air, you know, they're not
[536.14] Andy Shen: one after the other.
[537.74] Andy Shen: And when you're flying, you can sort of hear, you know, how like when you,
[544.3] Andy Shen: you know, like really drill a quad into a turn and back itself into its wash and the
[548.38] Andy Shen: props sound a little bit different.
[550.7] Andy Shen: But with the plus, you can't hear this a little bit quieter, a little flies a little bit cleaner.
[555.34] Andy Shen: And so it just felt like that it had a little bit of a little bit more efficiency that way.
[560.14] Andy Shen: And also, it just felt really smooth in the air.
[564.94] Jack: One thing I'd like to give, give Andy, I'll see a little bit of a dig.
[569.82] Jack: Did you make the same mistake and buy one of those 360 go GoPros in the background as well?

[662.46] Andy: Obviously it doesn't do the 6K that the GoPro does,
[666.3] Andy: but I've been looking at the smaller ones.

[689.74] Andy Shen: And what I found is that if you have nothing close to it
[695.98] Andy Shen: at the stitch, then it has a good stitch.
[698.22] Andy Shen: But if you kind of get in there close,
[703.26] Andy Shen: that's when the parallax kicks in and the stitch goes bad.
[706.54] Andy Shen: So on this frame, you can see that along the stitch line,
[710.54] Andy Shen: there's nothing.
[712.22] Andy Shen: So if it makes a nice, clean stitch.

[1041.5] Andy Shen: So you're flying a $700 camera around with the lenses kind of poking out.

[1139.18] Andy: People say to me, why did you give up on pixlk and all of that?
[1143.42] Andy: And the answer is, for the money, like, you just can't beat DJI.
[1148.14] Andy: You know, you could spend a thousand dollars or more
[1153.1] Andy: on like a pixlk, fit a gimbal to it.
[1155.9] Andy: But it still won't have optical flow.
[1158.54] Andy: It won't have object avoidance.
[1161.1] Andy: And it won't have the camera controls
[1162.94] Andy: because you'll be using a GoPro.
[1164.54] Andy: And so I gave up with all that DJI and just, you know,
[1169.34] Andy Shen: I mean, the only thing those things can't do is go fast
[1172.46] Andy Shen: and track as, you know, as precise as we can.

[1212.3] Andy Shen: and wraps the prints around it.
[1215.1] Andy Shen: So all this is just all one for your digital printing.

[1773.62] Andy: and then stuck it on a frame that can can take a four inch.
[1778.18] Andy: And it's not benefited as much as I thought it would.

[1789.78] Andy: And they they put the smaller motors on like the 14 size.

[1795.54] Andy: But one thing I've noticed with this is because the motors are smaller.
