[244.56] Tony: the maiden to the x-class drone and it was so good it needs a lot of work it was quite
[250.08] Tony: vibrating but we were flying unbalanced cheap props in case we crushed it and stuff but
[255.76] Tony: now we've balanced the props we've changed it from one shot to multi shots um we are going
[261.92] Tony: to put vibration dampeners on the big massive motors like that big but it was so cool to fly
[269.04] Tony: such a big thing balance the props man yep that's what we've done they were cheap ones because
[277.92] Tony: the the the triblates for four is 36 quid for four you see i can i can tell immediately
[289.12] NJ: when people have got into the hobby because five six years ago when you when you got your early
[295.44] NJ: you know seven or upwards inch quadcopter you not only had to balance the props no matter what
[301.68] NJ: they were and how they manufactured carbon composite or not you had to balance the props
[306.16] NJ: and you had to even balance the motors in fact the early motors that you used to get used to have
[310.64] NJ: to get some tape on there and there were all kinds of tricks for balancing motors using a laser pen
[316.32] NJ: and a mirror to to to do it so uh yeah that's no big thing balancing the props only takes five
[323.76] Tony: minutes no yeah we've done that now so but yeah it's um it's different flying something that big
[332.56] Andy: but it was so cool i think i think it's a problem in general with bigger quads is like
[339.36] Andy: because the the rpm is lower the the vibrations that you get at lower rpm can be seen much
[346.8] Andy: more through the camera than like a mini quad that's red and really high yeah they're more
[351.92] Andy: sort of slower waves um and this is something that i think isolation you fill a stone
[358.64] Andy: yeah but but like it's amazing that dji have managed to like get rid of all that and we just
[365.44] Andy: take it for granted really on on their bigger copies but it's really tricky to do on it because
[370.4] Andy: i i when i was building 450 copters exactly the same issue a slightly lower kv and uh your camera
[376.88] NJ: just have loads of jello over it have i ever showed you guys franken quad my my very first
[383.68] Tony: i've seen it on your videos because i saw it's just about
[387.52] Tony: really carry on well nine inch props ain't so bad it's when you get to x-class of 14 15 inch
[395.2] Andy: that's crazy yeah even when balanced it's going to be difficult to to get that it sounded right

[415.04] NJ: those on the actual and these are really early dji uh motors as well they are as well yeah and

[428.96] NJ: eses that's the gps bit isn't it gps there and then this side that is the current sensor
[435.76] NJ: apparently these were so these had so many problems these things but that you have to
[441.76] NJ: put a piece of tape to block light hitting the side of these early units because it used to cause
[447.6] NJ: the barometer to wig out on them uh when they heated up so there was all these hacks to get
[452.0] NJ: these things to to fly well but yeah look at this that looks like 1960s but this is like from
[461.52] NJ: you know six years ago look how far we've come in that space of time that says it what you were
[467.2] Jack: you saying that was a gps thing that weird yeah gps but yeah let me see what was the gps thing
[474.96] NJ: on the stand for that's the one that came with the kit and that's the one i used because it was
[479.2] NJ: clear of all the other components so some of these early components had terrible rf shielding used
[483.76] NJ: to get all kinds of problems when the components were near each other so it's actually uh it was
[488.56] NJ: better to use that one at the time but yeah it's got it's all kinds of stuff on this yeah i think
[493.76] NJ: it'll still fly i could probably still get some use out i want to do that get some on quads and
[498.88] NJ: do a nostalgic oh that that was the first thing i acrolled as well because you could put it in
[504.72] NJ: rate mode so that was the very first time i acrolled was on that which wow which is hilarious
[510.56] Jack: um yeah i was gonna say the thing is your thing um uh falls down with tony you know like you were
[520.32] Jack: saying oh it's you know it's a way of telling how long someone's been in the hobby for because
[525.52] Jack: obviously tony's been here since the beginning of time you're such i thought you were gonna start

[542.24] Jack: a prop balancer see he's not done doesn't have to use it it's a test it falls to the side you

[579.6] Onigiri: you have some background in engineering is that right yeah yeah so uh i think uh it was it's been
[587.76] Onigiri: a while i've graduated now i think four years i graduated a mechanical engineering
[594.56] Onigiri: diploma i don't know how to call that master degree yeah master degree i think it's equivalent
[600.08] Onigiri: um and uh right after graduating i decided to go backpacking in australia because i had enough of
[608.32] Onigiri: studying because it was long studies a bit complicated but um it's good to have this
[614.8] Onigiri: background um in the hobby uh but it's not necessary i think um and yeah after that i
[622.32] Onigiri: just went to australia and i haven't done engineering i mean as a as a job since then
[628.0] NJ: so i just do it on my free time right got you and and what was your your journey into RC if you
[635.92] NJ: had any kind of RC experience before quadcopters or was it as as an engineer did you see it and
[641.2] NJ: think this just appeals to something that i'm passionate about or tell us your your journey
[646.72] Tony: into getting into quadcopters yeah most girls most girls say it was my boyfriend
[654.56] Onigiri: is it problem if i say this too or don't want to know the truth well done Tony sticking his foot in
[661.36] Onigiri: it no the the truth is uh when i met Kevin so my um current boyfriend and he was getting into the
[670.8] Onigiri: hobby and he was actually building the same drone that you just saw before the flame wheel 450 yeah
[677.36] Onigiri: yeah it was a nightmare it was horrible um couldn't get FPV on him i went to the field
[683.68] Onigiri: with him to try it and i was like what's the point because the thing was so slow and so
[690.08] Onigiri: it was boring he flew around our building and we took like 15 minutes to record i don't know
[696.8] Onigiri: 10 meters i was like oh my god this is so boring and it was not acro not anything and apart from
[704.0] Onigiri: that we had two tiny quadcopters with which were not FPV at all we were just playing line of sight
[711.12] Onigiri: at home and having fun like this um and i was enjoying it but because like i couldn't really
[717.6] Onigiri: see the point i was like that's fun but let's do i like music too i was like okay i'll stop this
[722.8] Onigiri: i'm playing music and then we had to leave for Australia so of course we couldn't take anything
[728.88] Onigiri: with us we just left sold everything in France we left with just some money we bought a van
[735.36] Onigiri: we traveled around we worked a lot and when we finally went back to a normal life
[742.48] Onigiri: i mean stable life uh we asked our parents to send us the little drones back to Australia and
[748.88] Onigiri: we started flying again and of course during this time so that took us to have to be back to
[754.64] Onigiri: a stable life it took us maybe a year a year and a half so of course in the meantime new things
[762.0] Onigiri: appeared and we discovered um some FPV channels on youtube and and we're like wow that's
[769.2] Onigiri: that's incredible and now that there was FPV on drones i was like yeah that's the point that's
[776.08] Onigiri: what we need to do that's the way we need to use squads um to record things to record videos and
[782.48] NJ: and then that's how i got into it right brilliant and then from there uh what was your i mean what
[788.88] NJ: was your what was that drone that kind of got you into the FPV then once you got to that point what
[794.16] Onigiri: do you remember what the frame was yeah yeah i built an rd 210 yeah that's how you say it in
[800.32] Onigiri: english um and uh it was the my first drone and i kept it from february last year well
[808.48] Onigiri: december but i didn't fly much between december and uh in february last year um and then in august
[818.72] Onigiri: i've been asked by armaton if i could fly a chameleon and and then i went on with um armaton
[826.16] Onigiri: and now i fly the rooster but yeah my first my first frame was uh rd 210 it was pretty cool
[831.68] NJ: which one's the rd 210 uh because i can't i can't actually recall that frame was uh
[838.56] NJ: i don't have it anymore is there anyone anyone else in our group know that one andy
[844.16] Andy: no i've not heard of that one no where where's it where's it from australia it's from uh i think

[914.32] Onigiri: how to tune um it was before better flight 3.2 yeah it was the yeah it was it was good i mean
[924.88] Onigiri: it was a good frame to train on i had zm zmx motors uh and an old um controller i don't remember
[932.88] Onigiri: which one it it was now but now i have it next five sorry the nays five controller no uh i did
[943.92] Onigiri: not have it for too long because i quickly upgrade to my tyrannis qx seven and um and at that time i
[950.96] Onigiri: it was hard to learn all the names and stuff because i'm not like this at all in general anyway
[956.0] Onigiri: so i don't remember and i was flying with the screen i didn't have fat sharks and it's only
[960.72] Onigiri: when i met someone from adelai he said oh you don't have fat sharks if you want to give
[966.48] Onigiri: you mine for i don't remember but a ridiculous price i said yeah thank you and it changed
[970.88] Onigiri: everything like flying with a screen is completely different than with my yeah so immersive isn't it
[977.6] Tony: that's the bit when you actually taste flight and oh you get hooked yeah yeah but definitely
[984.16] Onigiri: yeah and then i didn't have a gopro first on it because i saw kevin destroying his gopros i was
[989.04] Onigiri: like nah i'm just doing this one is enough and then uh i bought the session and i broke it and
[996.32] Onigiri: then bought another one and broke it and so far so far it's better now but yeah you have to
[1003.44] NJ: crash to learn anyway yep yeah i've definitely gone through my fair share of gopros as well over
[1009.84] NJ: the years i i think the worst one ever was uh it was on one of these large quads and it was a
[1016.4] NJ: hero three black and i took it off the quad and put it on the roof of my car
[1021.84] NJ: and then i packed away the quad and i drove off and i thought was that funny noise
[1026.4] NJ: no yeah and it was a yeah it's a gopro three black which is the expensive one
[1032.56] NJ: um was it the black plus or just the black i think yeah the top yeah it was just the black i
[1037.52] NJ: don't think that the three plus had been out yet so it was the one before that but it was enough to
[1041.76] Onigiri: to make me cry a little bit you know i exploded a gopro um the whole day we were with a friend
[1048.72] Onigiri: we were flying in the car park so uh you know covered car park so really it was fine like well
[1054.56] Onigiri: we were doing well and after i don't know 10 batteries 15 batteries he says oh why don't we
[1059.52] Onigiri: just finish today we relax we go on a field like a footy an australian football field and i said yeah
[1065.68] Onigiri: yeah let's do that let's just cruise and finish the last two batteries and we go there and there's
[1071.44] Tony: one pole yeah so where's the one yes never fly your last battery either yeah take your battery
[1081.84] Tony: and just take it home don't come just one last one because that last one ruins everything but
[1088.48] NJ: people uh i don't know people say that don't they it was the last flight that did it well
[1094.24] NJ: yes because you can't fly after you broke your throat no so it's always going to be the last
[1099.52] Tony: one you could stop nj and say right i'm not doing that last battery i know what you mean i've got a
[1104.88] NJ: bit superstitious like that as well my very last pack i i do leave that one now because that's
[1110.96] NJ: the last charge pack is the one where things go wrong nice um yeah so um tell us about the name

[1499.36] Onigiri: left everything on it so it was perfectly tuned um and um it has his his own rates so my rates were
[1507.52] Onigiri: were a lot slower at that time so of course the first time i tried it i was like whoa what's going
[1512.8] Onigiri: on but i could definitely tell it was everyone asked me to explain i mean usually the questions
[1520.4] Onigiri: i have is like why do you prefer kiss now it's hard to explain it's just you have to try i always
[1525.68] Onigiri: say if you have a friend flying kiss try it and you'll see you'll see what i can't really explain
[1530.32] Onigiri: because you say it's smooth it's lofty and you feel more confident but that's my opinion some
[1535.84] Onigiri: people tried kiss and were like i don't like the feeling and went back to butterfly according to
[1540.8] Onigiri: what i read in my comments for example so i don't i can't really explain what happened but when i
[1548.08] Onigiri: tried it i was like i feel better um and i got used to the rates and um and then um i broke the
[1555.6] Onigiri: quad i did like uh like that's uh that's role um the other question is did you ever find out what
[1565.36] Onigiri: those weird red marks were on his motors oh no i never asked actually um yeah it's true that
[1578.16] Onigiri: i changed that no i didn't change any of them actually but yeah there's red marks on it i
[1582.88] Jack: didn't ask why i should have that would have i i saw his quad at the london meetup yeah and i did
[1591.36] Jack: actually ask him and he just went there's gotta be a reason for it i will ask him i will ask him

[1697.68] Onigiri: way it's not the latest one because when when he sent it it was the still the mr still original
[1702.96] Onigiri: yeah um no not many issues like i said i destroyed the bottom plate and the motors were fine so
[1710.88] Jack: so no they're pretty good no wonder yeah i'm sure he just gets you know like he does testing and
[1717.28] Jack: stuff i sure i'm sure like a lot of these pilots get the best of the bunch like the promo ones and
[1723.84] Jack: then when it goes to manufacturing for the rest of us it's like standard slip
[1732.64] Jack: how about half the reviewers enjoy and no well they're they're probably different things here
[1738.72] NJ: because uh when it comes to reviewing stuff i have been hit with the reviewers curse
[1743.76] NJ: many times or i've had stuff turn up and it's been dead on arrival or a vtx has been dead or
[1748.56] NJ: something's been wrong with it so i know the stuff that i'm being sent from these various companies
[1753.36] NJ: is not cherry picked um you think maybe there was some of that um if they want to make sure
[1758.32] NJ: all this stuff gets a good review but nine times out of ten um it will turn up and most
[1763.92] NJ: of the time you can see from the soldering straight away uh this is not cherry picked
[1768.24] NJ: quad um and i'm sure andy you've had a few duds before as well haven't you i mean sometimes it's
[1774.08] Andy: quite the opposite in fact because you're getting a really early version sometimes it's a prototype
[1779.12] Andy: that's you know it's not been tuned or anything like that and oh yeah i get it all the time you

[2531.84] Onigiri: second one i couldn't try the mini one but it's cool it's it's good but it's still not a gopro
[2538.32] Onigiri: like when people ask me i'm like nah it's not a gopro and my dream would be that one day we have
[2544.4] Onigiri: just one camera just just a tiny one hd and i'm like when that day arrives i would like to be
[2550.56] Onigiri: able to design a frame with such a camera in it that's what i would like to do but i know it's not
[2556.08] Onigiri: tomorrow it's probably not far away though not that far away we're getting closer hopefully
[2562.08] Onigiri: but um i've always been like this is such a shame we have to to have two cameras it would be so much
[2567.52] Tony: better and everyone thinks that we could just put the split in place of the gopro which would save

[2580.48] NJ: that is literally i was showing early this last night but this was the diatone prototype that i
[2586.72] NJ: did a review on so that is now about to drop as a product and it's very good for any of you who
[2591.68] NJ: haven't actually seen my video on this thing it's a real ripper but one thing i did get with this
[2597.2] NJ: was i printed a mount for the gopro stuck that on and put the gopro on and it just changed the
[2603.92] NJ: quad so much because it's such a light quad that it's almost a third of its weight as opposed to
[2610.16] NJ: a 600 gram quad when you put 85 grams on it's not that much difference in the way it affects
[2615.2] NJ: the performance but on something this light it really affects it but i did manage to shoehorn
[2620.16] NJ: into that if you can see a split mini with a little 20 by 20 stack in there yeah so um
[2628.0] NJ: yeah i'm gonna it'd be interesting to see how that how that works out i think the big thing
[2632.0] NJ: for me one apart from gopro being obviously better because it's a bigger sensor so you get
[2636.96] NJ: more light in and it's it's just and it's an expensive sensor that's why these uh gopro
[2641.44] NJ: footage is always better than something with a little sensor like this um is is also the
[2647.52] NJ: super view thing because the way super view works um and the way it crops the fit picture
[2653.36] NJ: and stretches the edges gives you this amazing perception of speed and it gives you that extra
[2658.72] NJ: horizontal uh vertical view as well and that's something um i never talked about this before
[2664.08] NJ: but that's something gopro have actually patented and it was yeah it was it was one of the reasons
[2669.6] NJ: why a lot of other cameras couldn't yeah call in the term super view or actually do that super view
[2674.48] NJ: thing but i'd really like someone to make any people who do coding or plugins to actually
[2680.8] NJ: make a gopro super view filter plug-in for something like premiere pro or for some of
[2685.92] NJ: the video editors so you can take your your footage and then apply a super view filter
[2691.68] NJ: because i think everything in super view just looks so good um there is one but only for after
[2697.68] Andy: effects oh is there can't do it in front yeah yeah because i was looking at this as well um
[2703.52] Andy: yeah um but it's you can only do it it's cool i think it's called mesh warping and basically
[2709.36] Andy: it's it it's like um well it's a mesh and you sort of drag the edge um drag the edges um but
[2717.12] Andy: yeah you need after effects it's a little bit more complicated but i agree a premiere plug-in would be
[2721.84] NJ: awesome there was uh do you remember the show me camera that had the hack you could just they
[2727.76] NJ: they made an open source hacked didn't they and they put the firmware onto the card and you could
[2732.08] NJ: get super view out of it yeah so um yeah i think that that's definitely a part of what makes the
[2737.84] NJ: gopro footage look so great on quads um but yeah that's a good dream definitely i don't know nj
[2745.28] Andy: but they've released the new firmware for the the mini as well i don't know whether mind you
[2750.88] Andy: yours is a new one yeah yours is a new one though isn't it but they they had a problem
[2756.48] Andy: initially where you got um like digital artifacts when you upload it uploaded it to youtube in the
[2764.16] Andy: corner and they fixed that um so um if you get that there's a fix out for it uh that's good to

[2776.88] Andy: install it and stuff i need to do it on mine because mine it still has the the problem but
