[272.24] Andy: white and um you're right yeah yeah about speaking of music i see a
[277.28] Glen: guitar in the background there what's you know this is my studio this is uh
[282.64] Glen: this is what i do for a living is it really very talented man
[286.56] Glen: i didn't another music so what what do you do for a living then
[290.64] Glen: um well i've got a studio the purpose built studio at the
[294.64] Glen: bottom of my um garden and um i've been doing that for about 15
[301.12] Glen: 20 years um and then about seven years ago i did all the video work as well

[310.08] Glen: so yeah uh that's that's what i do basically

[316.32] Andy: musician or you run a studio for other musicians
[320.32] Glen: a studio yeah but my main living my main

[330.72] Glen: um i guess so yeah the singing promos have you seen them on facebook is they
[337.52] Glen: are they the ones you're referring to uh i
[342.48] Glen: yeah i guess yeah uh are you talking about the um god i love fpv series on my

[380.08] Glen: it's kind of a mix of everything so um it's a bit confusing

[452.24] Andy: usually how we start these things how how you got into rc
[455.76] Glen: and where did it begin yeah uh it was three years ago
[460.0] Glen: and uh i well actually about four years ago i started
[464.72] Glen: i was one of the guys that started a drone business um
[468.0] Glen: or tried so i got forgot alone um i got i got the the big can you
[474.56] Glen: remember the um can you remember the uh what they
[477.92] Glen: called the uh fleet flame wheels oh 15s yeah the
[482.56] Glen: the big ones the big um the big one meter ones that are kind of
[487.92] Glen: what's it called cine star can you remember them
[490.8] Glen: no the big ones that carry the cameras and there was a
[494.56] Glen: they were about 25 grand or something oh so we're talking like proper
[498.4] Andy: professional video yeah yeah yeah so um
[504.0] Glen: i actually um i started that um i started that uh and kind of did
[510.88] Glen: that for about a year um i missed the boat because
[514.64] Glen: there was um everybody that was the time when the phantom came out
[518.48] Glen: and then the phantom kind of just everybody just started
[521.68] Glen: jumping on the light the the aerial kind of bandwagon
[528.24] Glen: um and then they just blown everybody out and so
[531.92] Glen: before the phantom there was only like all the big
[535.04] Glen: stuff the like 10 15 grand machines that could carry a camera
[539.52] Glen: um and then yeah then it just got wiped out and then
[544.64] Glen: the video work uh that i was doing just um kind of started going and stuff
[550.56] Glen: like that so i ended up not having much time
[553.44] Glen: to um to do that so i still get little jobs now and again
[558.08] Glen: but that's kind of how i got into it um and then i just had a mate he just
[564.32] Glen: says have you seen these um flying like these really fast uh
[568.88] Glen: racing drones and um i had a look i thought that looks fun
[575.68] Glen: and um i remember i think it would buy for props can you remember buy for props
[581.6] Glen: the uh the online yeah and we just bought like
[585.28] Glen: one you know you get everything all the motors everything you just put it all
[588.24] Glen: together and fly and that's how i started really
[591.76] Glen: so i'm not i'm not like some rc guy that's been doing it for years i've
[596.56] Glen: just um i'm relatively i'm kind of new to it you know
[600.24] Curry: it's really jumping all in isn't it by something
[602.96] Curry: that that's sort of serious is this so you went the sort of route of
[606.88] Curry: being an aerial videographer if you like and then getting more into the sort of
[610.0] Glen: hobby side of it yeah i'd already started the actual uh
[614.08] Glen: video work doing show reels and stuff mainly musicians and doing music videos
[619.28] Glen: um and then it just kind of was like a step up
[622.96] Glen: to that so um so yeah and that's how that's how i started so um yeah and i got
[630.4] Glen: i got quite a big loan um and then and that yeah so
[636.08] Glen: but yeah i think i broke even but um i would uh i would never go uh
[642.8] Glen: you know i think it's just too i think too many people doing it
[646.4] Glen: i think now there's um a lot of companies actually
[649.84] Glen: go in house now you know they'll get somebody and
[653.04] Glen: get somebody to so i passed my bnuc i've got my permissions and all that
[657.2] Glen: lot so um i've done all that so uh but and i
[661.36] Glen: still get the odd job uh which is cool so that's uh yeah
[666.16] Andy: yeah i think i think the biggest problem with um
[669.44] Andy: having your own sort of shop is trying to compete with
[673.04] Andy: with the huge chinese resellers and retailers and
[676.96] Jack: and also sorry glenn uh andy rc's a massive racist
[682.56] Jack: from his uh comes from him being up north he really hates chinese people i
[688.24] Jack: should yeah and he works with fat shark which is
[692.4] Andy: based in china isn't it um is it i think glenn's even more north
[698.48] Andy: than me to start off with well if i go if i less racist
[707.52] Andy: but i think uh going back to what i was saying i think um
[710.8] Andy: i i wonder how anyone like manages to sell
[714.4] Andy: drone parts that because the number of returns
[717.84] Andy: it seems absolutely crazy to me like like it's the kind of technology where
[722.8] Andy: um um there's there needs to be a lot of work
[726.96] Andy: in order to get the stuff going and it's so easy for the user to blame
[731.52] Andy: the product rather than you know there's a lot of knowledge to be gained
[736.08] Andy: and the amount of like um questions i see oh it won't bind this
[740.8] Andy: stupid thing that i've bought it's like no yet there's it's it's probably
[745.04] Andy: something you're doing but like so for the small businesses
[749.68] Andy: that um are trying to sell these parts it's really difficult the kind of
[753.84] Andy: support from from what i see and i think that's why
[756.48] Glen: why they struggle yeah yeah definitely i think i mean you just see it from the
[762.64] Glen: the forums on facebook and all the help pages you know you just you just see all
[768.32] Glen: the people having problems and you just know it's their fault not the
[771.6] Glen: drone's role um that you just see that all the time
[776.0] Glen: all the time so i'll be one of them yeah well that's the thing as well isn't
[781.28] Andy: it we've all been that person and then you raise a support
[785.36] Andy: ticket and then all of a sudden you know you take an option and beat
[788.72] Andy: a flight and it all starts working and oh yes it was my round of times i've
[793.44] Jack: done that well just like this thing clearly doesn't
[797.44] Jack: work blah blah get get a reply on the ticket
[801.12] Jack: like literally half an hour just after i figured it out
[805.2] Jack: yeah yeah yeah and then having to write back i'm a dumbass ignore this

[1084.35] Glen: but it worked but um yeah i i had no problem with radio c
[1088.75] Glen: um but the the actual the ones at the moment i think like
[1095.15] Glen: hubby r c um air jacker um uh uh what's what's what's the one you like

[1153.07] Glen: when you just when you just got alone and you started a brand new business and

[1189.55] Andy: a very specific incident maybe with a certain product

[1196.67] Andy: i had a load of problems with hobby king um but then
[1200.27] Andy: a lot of people tell me oh they're the best people to buy from so
[1203.87] Andy: it is really a difficult one to recommend companies i think
[1208.19] Jack: yeah yeah it is yeah my favorite thing about radio c
[1212.19] Jack: is i could send the most offensive email to them and it'd be fine
[1218.35] Jack: like you know and um also depending on who you get um uh

[1231.87] Jack: i have sent some pretty entertaining um offensive emails to will um impulse
[1239.31] Jack: rc and it's totally fine okay
