Tonight we are joined by Andy R.C. [23.5] Jack: Joined once again by the wonderful N.J. loads of people have been asking where you are. [27.5] NJ: Hello I'm still alive, I'm back, I'm back. [30.78] Jack: Yay! And we were also joined by a curry kitten. [35.82] Jack: Hello! And my little French ragamuffin. [41.9] Jack: Bonjour! And I am bright until I fly. [45.98] Andy: I've noticed a lot of us seem to be adapting this [48.94] Andy: hands-up thing when we say hello. I feel like it's catching. [55.66] Jack: Nice credit, curry's fault. You try sitting in that chair and not doing it. [61.66] Jack: There's something about having a big slip behind you that just makes you do that. [65.5] Jack: I have to do it. Yeah, my camera. So we were supposed to have R2K on and that hasn't happened. [75.9] Jack: Next week apparently. Next week's gonna happen. In between that we'll have the live show. [81.02] Tony: Oh god, I forgot about that. Yeah, so you guys. [86.14] Andy: Can I not do that? Well not all the shows live, I'm confused. [89.9] Jack: No, like the live, they can throw stuff at us when we're that shit. [93.34] Andy: Oh, take your vegetables, your rotten eggs and stuff. [97.1] Andy: Patrick should have Andy like put a cage up or something and it's just like no difference then. [103.18] Jack: Like one of those like spaghetti western bars. [106.54] Andy: Yeah, exactly. So before we went live, we're actually starting to have a conversation about [111.98] Andy: the EMAC talk five because NJ's got it and he's just flowing it. So what do you think? [119.42] NJ: So yeah, this turned up right before I disappeared and that was quite annoying. So I was like I [126.78] NJ: really want to get out and fly this because I got it. I think I was probably one of the first to get [130.86] NJ: it and then now I'm going to be the last person to review it. But I've tried not to watch, [136.46] NJ: I've seen Andy's review but I haven't watched anyone else's because I don't want to [141.9] NJ: have anything changed my opinion. But it's brilliant and I think part and parcel of [147.66] NJ: why this is brilliant is the amount of work they've done getting you a flight controller [153.58] NJ: that's not only on the late space flight but is so well configured. That's probably the first [159.18] NJ: I've ever got out of the box and I've been so impressed with the tune. I mean there's always [164.94] NJ: room for a little bit of improvement but generally speaking just looking at the numbers I knew they [168.94] NJ: were going to be roughly right. So yeah, very very impressed with the way that flies indeed. [174.94] Andy: So it's a pretty hefty angle you've got on that. What's that GoPro amount? [180.94] NJ: It doesn't come with a GoPro amount. So that is GoPro amount which I robbed off the, [186.22] NJ: it's the ghost print which you can download in print or thingiverse. Oh as in the mode 2 ghost? [191.98] Andy: Yes and it happens to fit that. I've got one here so I've been building one. I got this down to [199.5] Andy: 205 grams. It's going to be a monster. I think that's what people were racing with at the [206.94] Tony: MultiGP on Sunday and they were there so quick. Yeah, yeah. Oh you mean oh the mode 2 or the [214.46] Tony: Hawke Spy? The mode 2 but my mate's got a Hawke 5 and he swears by it. It looks really nice in [220.14] NJ: the air as well. It flies great. It's tuned really well. It's built very solid. I love the skinny [226.7] NJ: arms that are 5mm so you've got that kind of tank quality but you know the arms get out of the way, [231.58] NJ: the props which is really nice and yeah it's floaty. It just performed great. I was really happy [238.62] NJ: with the flight performance of that. There's very little, although the only thing I will complain [243.98] NJ: about as reviewers curse again is I've got the most hilarious sounding buzzer of just the one [249.9] NJ: that came with it is let me power it. Is anything touching it MJ or anything like that? Can you hear [259.54] NJ: that? It's got a beatbox. Give it a whack. Yeah I've done that. I've prodded it and mucked around [265.94] Andy: with it. I've had a couple of those. It's funny isn't it? I guess they're just cheap and there's [270.58] Andy: no cheap. Yeah I've got one. Yeah it just resonates. I guess you could say it still works though. [278.18] NJ: Yeah I'll probably switch to the motor beeping I think just to be on the safe side because I think [283.46] NJ: only dogs with very high pitch hearing are actually going to pick that up. But yeah brilliant [289.22] NJ: brilliant. As I said the only thing I would have would have I think they missed the trip was not [293.22] NJ: cooked because it's just a large version of the baby hawk was to call it the big baby. I thought [297.38] Andy: I should have done that myself. What do you reckon about the it's really odd because it's [305.06] Andy: got so much power but it shouldn't have. They're only 2300 kv motors. They're like a 2206 so [312.9] Andy: fairly low in torque. I think the props are doing a lot of the work which surprise me. [318.42] NJ: They are. It's definitely amp hungry. It's not nearly as efficient as my Archon which is a much [325.78] NJ: heavier build albeit on much more premium motors. But I completely agree with you. I think they've [332.5] NJ: done a lot of work in the props to make up for the lack of torque in the motor. So it's well [336.74] NJ: matched. I wouldn't mess with it and change the props and stuff. It's well matched. But you do. [340.82] NJ: I certainly found that actually the low end grump was quite nice which is surprising because it's [346.18] NJ: not a great torquey motor which again is made up by the props. So the stopping power at low RPM [351.7] NJ: when you're hitting the deck hard and levelling off is actually good. That felt really nice. [356.66] NJ: Where it lacked for me was the top end. The top quarter of the throttle felt a bit [361.46] NJ: nonspecific and a bit mushy. But I really can't take it. For a bind and fly that's amazing. I [370.42] NJ: would have no hesitation in recommending that. How much is that? UK? [375.94] Andy: 200 and something is it? I think it's 189 pounds I think. Yes that's a steel bike. [382.34] Tony: You might as well just buy that. Do you reckon it'll be a good racer? [385.86] Andy: Definitely. I mean it is a racer really isn't it? It's not really a freestyle model actually. [391.14] NJ: Would you? Freestyle's great. I mean that was my first first flight tonight like an hour ago [396.82] NJ: in what I was saying. It's about eight weeks. Do you use freestyle with 45 degrees on your camera? [403.62] NJ: Some do. Yes those I do because the light quads I have to add more angle because they're lighter, [411.06] NJ: they lack the inertia and I find they just tend to wash off speed too quickly if I don't have the [416.42] NJ: heavy angle even on a 2.1 lens. So less angle on the Archon which is a heavier build but on those [423.14] NJ: and also that other DY-Tone prototype racer. That's saying 45 on both of those. [429.94] Andy: Wow yeah because a lot I'm seeing now a lot of the GoPro mounts for freestyle are coming out at like [435.94] Andy: 20 degrees and when I flew with these guys they're using 25 to 30 and I tried to to go up like 45 [444.18] Andy: 50 on mine and the footage just came out terrible but I imagine a lot of it's to do with your [450.82] NJ: talent of flying and my lack of probably. You know it's interesting you do have to make an [456.58] NJ: adjustment because things like the the Archon being a bit heavier I'm not sure actually if [462.74] NJ: Bloods is in the chat he'll be able to you can see that's not 45 at all so Bloods will tell you [467.78] NJ: what that is 30 something probably but because you've got that extra inertia once you set your [473.78] NJ: forward angle it just carries and just tracks beautifully with the lighter quads if you're at [479.78] NJ: that angle that speed will just wash off really quickly and you have to jam it forward a bit so [484.74] NJ: if you're running at an angle like this on something incredibly light you just spend the [488.1] NJ: whole flight staring at the floor even on a wide angle so that's kind of the trying to I mean this [494.66] NJ: is my this is the feel I genuinely prefer generally prefer heavier quads for freestyle [501.46] NJ: because I just like the way they feel and you've got the props out of shot as well with the arms [507.3] NJ: yeah with the arms like that so really I'm just trying to mimic the feel of this on a lighter [513.3] NJ: quad by getting the angle up where it does where it does mess with you though is the fact that [518.02] NJ: you end up with uh needing to make piloting adjustments to certain maneuvers like inverted [523.94] NJ: yaw spins yeah all of a sudden you have to tip a little bit further to get the yaw to actually [530.1] NJ: pancake nice and level otherwise you go for a yaw spin and it sort of ends up looking diagonal [536.42] Tony: a bit weird yeah it depends how fast you how fast you are at a freestyle pilot I fly quite slow [545.06] NJ: yeah so I'm not it depends on the area to be honest with you when I'm flying out in my local [550.74] NJ: testing ground where it's incredibly flat and there's only a few trees and you've just you've [555.22] NJ: got nothing in the way you tend to fly very fast and you'll go through the battery quicker [560.26] NJ: um in some of the spots I've been more recently well I say more recently the last time I was [565.62] NJ: doing a lot of uh youtubing stuff um whereas a lot of close proximity stuff [571.46] NJ: then you're kind of a little more conservative and and trying to be careful you're not jamming [575.46] NJ: the throttle everywhere and even on the Archon on those instances I was getting between four and [581.62] NJ: five minute flights on a 1500 milliamp battery um but yeah this little light thing down at my local [589.7] NJ: field where I can open the throttle up a bit you know three minutes have you seen the pitch on [595.06] NJ: them props though um what the the e-match ones the avants well they're a little bit deceptive [601.7] Tony: because they're very steep at the root but you've got to remember they do fight out for it yeah [608.42] Andy: don't they say they're a 54 e5 something like that so they're not too heavy no they're not [614.74] NJ: they seem to work well across the range they get quite an even throw but the thing you have to [618.9] NJ: remember is where they're heavy that pitch is heavier on the route here this is the slowest part [623.86] NJ: spinning part of the prop the fastest spinning parts here right at the tip and you can see that's [628.98] NJ: almost completely flat and it's tricky to to get it up but the actual prop there you go [634.82] NJ: that's hardly got any angle on it at all so yeah I said design's a huge subject I said it looked [642.42] Andy: like a prop design by committee because the trailing edge it looks like it was designed [646.58] Andy: with a ruler it's got all sorts of line changes and all sorts but clearly they know what they're [651.62] Andy: doing because yeah it's funny that when the first reviews came out they were like I don't like these [656.02] Andy: props the first thing I thought was I do like these props and um there are other videos out [661.06] Andy: there where they've like stuck a dull cyclone on and they've just said ah this is man I'm like [665.7] Andy: no you need to this this is designed to run with these props and that's it basically I think you [672.02] Andy: stuck any other prop on there it wouldn't perform they've they've properly picked this and tuned it [677.38] Andy: and all sorts and uh yeah it's funny that you say that you were one of the first to get it and [682.02] Andy: you'll be one of the last to review it the thing is if there's nothing come in between so it'll [686.98] Andy: still be relevant when when you do your review the only thing that it's missing is the small audio [692.82] Andy: for these days doesn't have small audio however I've heard some rumors that there's going to be [699.22] Andy: a pro version so oh we'll see I just a rumor I don't know um all of these I think it's interesting [707.54] Andy: actually that um because because like they've actually come from America and there's a chat [713.46] Andy: called I don't know if you've heard his name I think his name I'm sorry if I've got your name [717.38] Andy: wrong I think it's Brandon Cruz you ever heard of this guy he designed the baby hole he just I think [723.7] Andy: and again I could have this wrong I think he designed the view XL goggle and so the baby [729.54] Andy: hole car and now this is the same guy behind all three of those so I think they're sort of [734.98] Andy: going off the success yeah and it's a it's a guy in the USA rather than in China I think is basically [743.3] Andy: maybe become a correspondent for emacs and just like to know this is what we want and just clearly [750.42] Andy: got it right you know rather than just piling components on stuff and hoping that it works [756.1] Curry: well I can assure you won't be the last reviewer because I have one I'm trying to get one a couple [761.7] Curry: of months ago and when was this like screw up but I'm gonna carry on trying since you guys love it [767.7] Curry: so much I'm desperately jealous not to fly away but it's made a synthesizer in the background [772.98] Tony: that sounded like um was it attacking you know that was some oink on a motorcycle outside my [779.62] Andy: house the one you told me about how it ruined your video yeah I've just uh someone in the chat [790.34] Tony: tom all slot said uh evening oh I just joined and there are more viewers here than the RC [795.86] Tony: groups podcast and people are saying this one's better than theirs so cheers and Andy is this [803.46] Tony: really you or your brother because you're not naked what you're wearing a hoodie you're wearing [810.1] Andy: way too much photo okay I don't believe it's actually him well I'm very I'm very conscious [816.66] Andy: to all of these uh comments that I keep getting about oh is that now I kind of feel how you know [824.82] Andy: the um the transgender community feels at the moment with all of this you know hatred towards [830.18] Andy: them and but you know kind of feel we're going to hate you kind of feel the same about my uh low [834.5] Andy: cut tops there so I'm covering up and at mini air show because the sun will be out I shall [839.94] Andy: basically be wearing a bin bag over my entire face I'll put an Andy RC sticker on the bin bag so you [846.26] Andy: know it's me but uh it might it might not I'm getting absolutely toasted at the moment another [852.34] Tony: reason why I'm covering up is everyone um organized and ready I've been like half a day getting ready [860.02] Andy: I saw quite a reason everything I saw a picture Tony that you posted and it looked like you're [864.58] Andy: going for about 10 weeks with your fucking TV with him from that picture as well to be fair [871.54] Tony: there I've I've had to pick up Brad has dropped off about a billion flags um so I've got my cars [878.98] Tony: full up with so many pole you know flag poles and flags and stuff like that so quite a lot of that [886.42] Tony: was stuff um for you know for the track and stuff are you taking the doggies with you no they're [892.34] Tony: going to their nands tomorrow morning but I'm gonna miss them three days you're going to your [897.78] Tony: nands aren't you they like it they get spoiled everyone everyone here's going right we're all [904.26] Andy: yeah sweet so be good to have us all in one place so the setup start tomorrow is that what's happening [911.94] Jack: well yeah kind of boy kind of Jack I'm ready to set up tomorrow uh Frasier can't get hold of a van [920.82] Jack: so he might be a little bit late what time's everyone getting there uh I don't know but you [927.22] Jack: know with you you're gonna leave at four in the morning anyway probably that's what you do yep [933.46] Jack: I like to live life to the fall what I don't understand is Andy RC is boiling hot so he puts [941.38] Jack: a fan on in his room but then wears a hoodie yeah because I don't want to be discriminated for [947.94] Andy: he doesn't wear his wife's beater anymore I feel like how Joshua Bardwell feels with his dress [953.3] Andy: you know I'm feeling conscious so yeah I'm I'm covering up there's what's going on and I've [958.66] Curry: couldn't just put a t-shirt on I suppose instead or do you not own those is it just constant vests [963.78] Andy: and hoodies can't buy t-shirts up here what are you talking about they haven't invented sleeves [968.34] Jack: up there yeah struggle to buy a jumper up here yeah no no twitch stream this this weekend I was [975.54] Jack: trying to get these guys to play Stardew Valley with me but no one will well I didn't know what [981.94] Andy: it was first of all why don't we all do you know what I've been we play after do you know what I've [986.82] Andy: been doing I've been going on liftoff and the multiplayer's working and I've just been randomly [992.98] Andy: been going in liftoff and that's been kind of cool because people because I'm I've got my name [998.66] Andy: as Andy RC and people just join and completely thrash me but I thought like that'd be awesome [1005.3] Andy: why don't we do something like that because it's really good the multiplayer on Velocidrone [1010.5] Andy: and liftoff is brilliant so I agree I own both of those already so I don't you know I own [1015.94] Andy: Velocidrone we could do we could have a bash I don't but I could yeah I think I actually [1022.66] Andy: think liftoff's more accurate when it comes to racing but I thought Velocidrone was better [1029.14] NJ: in terms of the feel of the quad oh well this this is where it's all going to kick off isn't it [1034.26] NJ: how do you think and which personally I think um Velocidrone is is where I sit but the the two [1040.9] NJ: have alternated they've alternated you know the very first iteration of liftoff was amazing then [1047.14] NJ: they broke all the physics ruined it and then it got really good again and then bad again and [1051.94] NJ: I think it's great now it really is um but Velocidrone for me just at the end of the day [1057.06] NJ: this is what I say to everyone about simulators which one feels the most like your quad [1061.86] Andy: that's the one you use I think there's something else going on with me in that I crash less and [1066.42] Andy: liftoff I think it may be Velocidrone's more realistic but I crash less and liftoff so that's [1075.14] Jack: my favorite I have a medium shirt that the test shirt that looks really strange wow that's like a [1087.14] Jack: uh one off like special thing so if you want a medium shirt and you're at the um at mini air [1097.62] Tony: show all you've got to do is uh don't say kick me or something I know you're gonna say something [1105.46] Jack: slap tony and you'll get it for free if you pants tony you get it for free [1113.22] NJ: tony we're about constantly I do um another thing I was I was thinking I would do when I'm there [1123.54] NJ: at mini air show is I'm going to give away a few things because I'm feeling super generous [1128.5] NJ: since returning so I'm as usual with uh banggood whenever they send me stuff for review they [1134.9] NJ: sometimes send me two or three of the same thing for no reason whatsoever so um I have a set of [1141.94] NJ: goggles to give away although they are probably better suited to a wing pilot but they're still [1147.78] NJ: nice um and I have I'll say what I will do I'll probably give away a couple of my favorite battery [1155.46] NJ: because uh um ready Eddie have sent me over a brand new big fresh box of my favorite 95c 1500 [1163.94] NJ: milliamp forest battery so um we'll devise how we're going to be giving some stuff away I guess [1169.86] NJ: maybe add it to some of the competitions that are won um or maybe I'll hold my own one [1176.1] Curry: I suppose the question is are these goggles are they going to have all your nose changes [1182.66] NJ: they're going to be piled with sugar or whatever it's you know what I may actually do that Wayne [1188.18] NJ: that's a really good point you know the sky zones which obviously I use my fat sharp [1193.22] NJ: dominators back there I don't use the sky zone and sky O3s but they're very good and they've had [1198.02] NJ: my custom nose mod done to them so they will fit a western western nose compatible um [1204.18] NJ: yeah I'm making it close away oh you're not sending them back though so they know I've [1208.26] Andy: customized them they're going to be better than whatever they say no but they're apparently [1213.3] Andy: even though no one's been contacted yet um that apparently they're changing the DVR as well so it [1219.62] Andy: might be worth it might be worth unless you're done with them I've been keeping a hold of mine [1225.06] Andy: just in case because um I've got a friend who received that on way v2s um and those also have [1232.66] Andy: got some issues so once again we had fat shark on the show last week and you know everyone was [1239.14] Andy: complaining about fat shark with this with the hdo but still people are struggling to to match [1246.18] Andy: them so um have you had had a chance to look at the hdo stuff and jay or just completely removed [1253.38] NJ: from it I haven't I was I was just gonna quite simply buy a set just so I could get my hands [1258.5] NJ: all the time to check out but they are quite expensive I'll tell you what I am interested [1262.34] NJ: in having a little peruse of uh some of the the hobby stores to see what's new can anyone tell [1268.82] NJ: me anything about this new immersion RC rapid fire module yes yes I can tell I can tell you it's [1275.22] Andy: better than Clearview and then and no one should buy Clearview actually that's not for me I think [1281.46] Andy: Joshua Bardwell mentioned that um rapid fire is where it's at and that no one's I don't well I've [1288.42] Andy: certainly not got one and I'd have to buy one probably um but um it's it's sounding good yeah [1295.22] NJ: so yeah they're looking interesting and I've actually got finally got an email back from [1300.02] NJ: Clearview saying they said they are going to send me a module once they've addressed some of the [1305.22] NJ: issues that they had I know there was that problem with the PCB that they claim to have had and they [1310.9] NJ: now sending out new ones once it had been retooled and re-manufactured so they're going to send me a [1316.26] NJ: new version of that and then I'll try and get hold of one of these rapid fires but they seem to be [1321.14] Tony: out of stock everywhere as well I'm making very great timing for immersion RC sorry to interrupt [1327.78] Curry: me no I was just going to say I made some very subtle um comments to sand assassin and skype [1332.82] Curry: saying things like do you think I could have one um you're so cryptic which which he somehow ignored [1340.02] Curry: that one but answered on my other questions but I was quite I'm excited about it for a different [1344.74] Curry: way apart from the fact that it does the merging of the two images he claims it works with the old [1350.42] Curry: immersion RC 600 modules which sounds really pointless to a lot of you people but [1355.94] Curry: who runs that big five of those planes back there have them in very when you say you mean 600 you [1361.94] Andy: mean 600 milliwatts yeah works with it as in we didn't we didn't say that live on here I think [1369.54] Curry: I've got one in here somewhere yeah the problem is that the the RX 505 or what is it no our 5805 [1377.46] Curry: modules don't work with the original um IRC 600s which is all down to this modulation problem [1384.18] Curry: but the newer models will work with them the old ones do this weird rolling screen thing looks [1389.78] Andy: absolutely awful all right yeah I've been getting that on my old 600 with the fat sharks so so that's [1397.46] Curry: what that's what you're referring to yeah you I did a test so I put in my uh next wave module [1403.7] Curry: flew out to like a kilometer and a half on a wing all perfect put in one of the um diversity modules [1410.58] Curry: that basically the same thing everybody has and all rolling horrible thing because I thought I [1415.3] Andy: had a faulty set wow I'm getting that with my I'm actually in the process of updating my alien [1421.06] Andy: because it's got one of those 600s in because it's doing that and I didn't realize okay so my alien's [1426.98] Curry: fine if you've still got a next wave module put it in and you'll see it's it's perfect again [1432.58] Andy: yeah I probably have somewhere yeah it's a good I thought it'd become faulty the vtx [1438.26] Andy: that's really interesting although 600 milliwatt these days you can't really fly it not at any [1443.86] Curry: events anyways or anywhere because it's illegal kids yeah I mean this is for me flying in different [1452.58] Curry: countries and all planets but there you go I still don't want to dig them out of the five planes [1457.7] Andy: there yeah if anyone else ever asks any questions just say it's a private island go away and I'm [1463.62] Andy: the authority there um do you want to know what I've been up to yes not really no fine okay I do [1474.34] Andy: jack I do too go on you've been twitching you've been building clocks you've been uh [1486.58] Andy: street playing resident evil and it all anything that jack does I see this troll in the comments [1496.1] Andy: that and it's tony just saying things like set fire to it and stuff like this um show them the [1503.06] Jack: scary schematics of the um the scan thing you're you're doing oh my god so I got I was like I'll [1515.3] Jack: get an upscaler because I've managed to pick up a um what's an upscaler I don't know [1525.14] Jack: but I'm gonna be building one and it's official I hate you Andy RC why [1532.98] Jack: what do I do I have a seven page mouser order and I've been going through individual components [1543.54] Jack: and having to buy seven of everything and some of it I can't even find and if you didn't do it [1555.62] Andy: though jack I've been just sitting here on my own just crying into my hands so you know you think [1562.66] Jack: you're helping me in that sense you know someone someone's got a short ground on their audio [1569.3] Andy: equipment it's uh it sounds like a guitars not it could be it could be me but I don't think [1577.38] Jack: someone wiggle individually Andy RC move around that was just an excuse to make me look like a [1584.34] Jack: tip wasn't it is it you venture you'll know it's a new sound not me you're the guitar lord [1590.98] Andy: is it me I wanted to ask him actually um who was that who was that it's like someone did it then [1598.9] NJ: wasn't I didn't think it's karikin what's the green bar watch the green bars and the offending [1604.1] Andy: noise arrives anything no nothing ghost in the system ghost in the shin yeah sorry what are you [1614.18] Andy: saying Andy I was saying um so right you've had this uh break on your youtube channel because [1620.9] Andy: you've been out gigging with Kim and are we going to see um some videos on your youtube too [1628.1] NJ: uh videos of well not of music stuff no no no I mean actually no that's another thing I wanted [1636.18] Andy: to ask because while you were on tour you took your mavic out I did I took the air with me so [1642.1] NJ: that I could get some nice shots of all the beautiful coastline and various other because [1647.78] NJ: we literally went up and we went right up to Glasgow down to Yokeville we went literally and [1653.3] NJ: everywhere in between so uh yeah I've got some really nice mavic air footage and I had a good [1659.22] NJ: chance to kind of get to know the drone a bit and yeah it's brilliant I said it's an amazing [1665.3] Andy: drone in competition only with itself are you yeah exactly are you going to do a uh like a montage [1671.86] NJ: for your channel or anything like that oh I definitely will I'm really interested as well [1677.54] NJ: within the next few weeks I'm thinking about trying to get some nice static shots with the [1681.78] NJ: air whilst I fly my mini quad around yes if I can get some interesting footage having that as [1688.98] NJ: a second camera perspective like one of the things I was thinking of was having the drone up above [1694.66] NJ: the canopy pointing down and then coming up with a mini quad doing some risky stuff see if I can [1701.14] NJ: get some interesting angles for if you can manage to break it by colliding yeah pretty much let's [1706.34] Andy: I've had a go at that before and I've got a friend who has a mavic and the only thing that we get [1712.82] Andy: is um I think you do tend to get a little bit of interference on your video feed when running them [1720.9] Andy: because it's very they're very powerful the DJI stuff and it's wi-fi you know so um and I think [1729.14] Andy: I don't it depends which DJI you use actually because some of them run on 5.8 I think they [1734.02] Andy: switch sometimes as well you can you can manually set it to either yeah yeah you can you can get some [1740.42] Andy: interference but I've done it before the one thing that'll surprise you the most is how close [1745.46] Andy: you have to get to the mavic in order for it to be a good shot yeah it's crazy fov fisheye isn't [1751.78] Andy: it so yeah if anyone can do it though it's it's you I'd love to see I'd love to see some of that [1758.42] Andy: footage of the uh the rocks that we went to because that looked epic on you yeah that that [1764.18] NJ: from the pig district yeah that was that's probably some of the best footage actually that [1768.26] NJ: that day when we flew out and that was amazing actually because when Andy and I went to this [1773.22] NJ: spot or that Andy took to me which I think you guys had all been to the week before um I it's [1779.86] NJ: so weird because these valleys and these big mountains when you fly away like to my mind I [1785.46] NJ: was like what's that about a kilometer and then Andy looked down and we were nearly three kilometers [1790.9] Andy: away 2,700 meters it was absolutely nuts but perfect video quality and uh and the reception [1799.86] Andy: so have you heard about the phantom four no I was just going to ask that we just saw it's [1806.9] NJ: no phantom five then no no it's a bit like done then I think that I think they can afford to put [1813.94] NJ: their feet up a bit in the R&D department today I don't think they've got much to worry about [1819.46] NJ: because yeah there's there's no there's no other company that are coming near the middle there so [1823.94] Tony: why not put a couple of versions on then put a phantom 4.1 or what it's it's barely like [1830.74] Andy: do you know what's funny as well they did the phantom obsidian phantom 4 obsidian which was [1837.3] Andy: just the phantom 4 painted black and then they've got uh and now the phantom 4 v2 and all they've [1847.14] Andy: done is that the first one uses something called light bridge and they've added ocu-sync so [1853.7] Andy: apparently slightly lower latency on the video but who cares about that it's a GPS quad that's got [1859.78] Andy: too much latency even with ocu-sync um and the so the latency has gone from yesterday to today [1866.98] Andy: basically yeah well yeah yeah that's it so the mavic uses ocu-sync and what was the other thing [1873.46] Andy: that they've done as well oh they've made it 40 quieter than the original which is surely just [1880.66] NJ: going to be a different set of props i wouldn't imagine how do they measure that see there's a [1886.02] NJ: thing about the way decibels and noise scales and it's non-linear so i don't understand that [1893.22] Curry: i think one decibel above the last one is a lot a lot louder or something yeah [1897.46] NJ: so i don't know how they can it's like a percentage for that but isn't it like 4 db is double or [1902.9] Andy: something like that yeah so um but they did exactly the same with the mavic and actually [1908.9] Andy: it it worked i've got a friend who bought the new mavic props because they brought the mavic [1914.98] Andy: platinum out and they still exactly the same set it's much quieter and it is it's a lot quieter [1921.3] Andy: but he just went and got the mavic platinum props and put it on his old one and then it's [1926.98] NJ: just prop design unless they're actually redesigning the body as well then if it's quieter it's just [1931.78] NJ: a different set of props and maybe a different kv if they're going for a lower kv and a flat blade [1938.42] Andy: profile it still flies for the same amount of time though same camera and i do actually think [1944.58] Andy: at some point dji are gonna have to bring out something like new because just these small [1951.38] Andy: changes i can't see anyone if they've already got the original one and i would say if you [1957.7] Andy: if you're into this then it's it's probably probably already have one by now i'd be very [1962.58] Andy: surprised if the sales of those these little changes are going to be massive speaking of [1969.7] NJ: of changes or rather non-changes i was very surprised to finally start upgrading stuff [1975.7] NJ: before i went out for my flight this evening to see that beta flight has been on 3.2.2 for quite [1981.62] NJ: some time very uncharacteristic with beta flight i know the rc's under development isn't it for 3.3 [1988.1] Andy: i know we're on three we're on three three one now i think yeah well i think it's three three [1994.82] Curry: i'm confused hang on i've got a ready to fly quad on three three no i'm talking rubbish let [2000.9] NJ: me get everyone's left to go work on butterfly sorry 3.3.2 is what i mean that's been around for [2008.74] Andy: quite a while now hasn't it and it's yeah it's been around for a while yeah what's a while [2016.66] Andy: in the quad talk about like four days yeah no i think what and just probably getting out as well [2024.66] Andy: i imagine that i know you you try a lot of the uh like the early releases so maybe there's a bit [2030.9] Andy: of that in it as well because yeah i think 3.3 as a as a sort of early rip like unstable release [2038.34] Andy: or whatever's been around for quite a while but it stays long people are switching to butterfly [2044.98] Andy: now there because um i've i've tried it i i do think it's better i don't think it's enough to [2052.9] Andy: make the switch but it's definitely better when it comes to prop wash oscillations and and it's [2058.82] Andy: slightly smoother as well i think it actually feels a bit more it's funny because um i flew [2064.82] Andy: my kiss cop to the other day it felt a lot more like kiss than uh beat of light which yeah i've [2072.58] NJ: not touched butterfly yet because i wanted to see things stable out a little bit more but i will [2077.14] NJ: try it although as i said with that that emacs this evening it was brilliant no prop wash just [2083.3] Andy: none it was amazing well i think kebab fpv put butterfly on the emacs five and i have to say [2090.18] Andy: its footage looks great and the good thing about butterfly as well is that it's not like um any [2097.54] Andy: difference to beat of light so there's no learning curve it's the same so um it's an easy switch if [2104.58] Andy: you want to try i'd recommend trying it honestly um it's the thing is though like i think a lot [2111.06] Andy: of people are so loyal to beat of light because it's got so much development and um i i think [2116.98] NJ: butterfly has less people working on it yeah i i think with this base fight as well it's just [2123.3] NJ: it's just so good if it flies great if it's doing everything i want it to do and the prop [2127.86] NJ: wash isn't there and it's just perfect and i just don't feel the need to to move away from it that's [2134.1] NJ: been most of the time when i have switched through race flight through kiss with all of these [2137.78] NJ: different flight controllers and and firmwares it's it's been in pursuit of a certain feel um [2143.62] NJ: and i think bait flight's right really got it nailed at the minute blood's actually cleared [2148.5] NJ: that up the latest one is only six days old whoops um but 3.3.1 was out for four weeks before [2156.5] NJ: the latest release so yeah it's quite a long time to play that's probably yeah just before you went [2161.22] Jack: on tour i would say that was that wow that lasted a whole nj on tour yeah that's a lot of cocaine [2171.22] Andy: and hookers i can confirm there was none of that around unfortunately i don't know what you're on [2181.14] Jack: your skimpy little tops you're tart you're lucky his wife doesn't find out [2189.22] Jack: just give me tops i don't know isn't it old boob tube i only wear the small tops because [2195.78] Jack: i'm just always too hot all the time just too hot for youtube i'll just add that into the tags [2205.22] Andy: with me i mean hotter than temperature sorry i should say eat heat because heat and temperature [2213.14] NJ: yeah i'm gonna stick bus flight i might stick it on the the diatone racer just to to try out these [2219.46] Andy: um missile filters filters they still haven't released that you know and it's my fault [2225.54] Andy: because i keep um uh they they gave me a couple i i found some massive issues with them [2233.14] Andy: and uh so yeah and they've just found another issue so they're pushing it back again so um but [2240.02] Andy: i think it's it's it's it's going to be a nice quad when it comes out but that's why it hasn't [2244.1] NJ: come out because of me and i say you've you've got there's a lot of uh speed gun testing diagram [2251.22] Andy: like me yeah i kind of got a bit addicted to it really because i versus videos [2258.02] Andy: well yeah yeah yeah well it's funny i got flight i think i'm always interested in like how a motor [2265.94] Andy: and the esc performs and i i've talked to you about this in the past about thrust stands [2272.02] Andy: and how the a thrust stand is pretty useless tool in the hobby and um because i you know [2281.46] Andy: i've done it as well i've got a thrust stand it'll give you all these figures and you're none the [2285.54] Andy: wiser and so what i thought i'd do is i've got like i've got a few of my quads that are flyable [2291.7] Andy: and i've got this um this this speed gun thing and um it's been really interesting actually to [2299.22] Andy: see what different prop combinations uh different motors and escs have effect on speed and not not [2306.9] Andy: just that as well the the state of size i talked i was actually when i talked to you when um [2313.86] Andy: when i when i came to you at bookston um i was unsure about that you know state of size state [2319.22] Andy: of height and i've talked about it on here before and doing these speed runs has given me a lot more [2324.82] Andy: data on what stater width and height and prop choice does and i'm actually basing the bit i've [2332.9] Andy: done an extreme build here i've um found a 2204 motor that does 3000 kv which is crazy it's [2343.7] Andy: actually designed for a four inch but i'm trying to take it to the extreme to just see if um like [2351.54] Andy: state of size against weight and and because not not just your prop pitch prop weight is important [2360.74] Andy: as well like really important especially on high kv motors yeah exactly so so that the higher in kv [2367.7] Andy: you go the more torque you need to to get to those higher rpms on the on the thicker props so i've [2374.98] Andy: been experimenting with lighter props in fact there's a there's a prop called the dow 50 51 c [2382.74] Andy: and it's the lightest prop you might have seen them really skinny uh blades yeah oh you're so [2389.22] Andy: lucky i got sent them i i bought some to this and um they sent me the wrong one so i can't do the [2396.34] Andy: test but but yeah the idea with that is it's high in pitch but it's lightweight so in theory a less [2404.02] Andy: talky motor uh hasn't got to worry too much about the weight it's got to worry about the pitch [2409.86] Andy: because obviously that that's that's a resistance but yeah anyways that's what the speed gunners [2414.98] Andy: are all been about to try and get my head around because like everyone says oh that motor is [2419.22] Andy: brilliant and look at the look at the thrust that it produces and then on a copter it's like well [2424.82] Andy: it feels like every other single motor so what in what give me a figure why it's better and that is [2431.14] Andy: why even though like um you know a speed gun might not necessarily be like completely accurate every [2438.9] Andy: time that's why i do lots of different runs at least it tells me against all of the other models [2444.74] Andy: what it's doing in terms of performance i can speed and that [2449.7] Tony: here's the so what was it 117 miles an hour was the top one or something 112 yeah 112 yeah which [2457.22] Andy: is nice crazy and i struggled to get the five inches going that fast the emac sort five did [2462.9] Andy: 106 and my quickest ever reading was from a 6s but a high kv 6s 118 and i really struggled to get [2473.46] Andy: i can't get anything to go faster than that there's something about the drag and and it's [2479.06] Andy: kind of like when you when you start getting into hiker cars and they have to add like an [2484.18] Andy: extra 500 horsepower to go 10 mile per hour faster it's that sort of thing but anyways yeah [2491.3] NJ: in juice drag yeah it's it's it will stop there will be a point where it will start messing with [2496.74] NJ: it but yeah it's it's interesting that the thrust down stuff is is good it can be good information [2502.34] NJ: but from it's very one-dimensional information it can give you good uh you you it's like having [2508.42] NJ: the quad in hover where you've got a static load against the prop but the minute you start revving [2513.14] NJ: the prop up to to high power and you've got because remember you've got a pressurey the [2518.1] NJ: side of the prop and that changes depending on the speed of the props moving through the air [2523.54] NJ: and that affects efficiency and all kinds of other factors as well and then you've got to [2527.22] NJ: bring drag into that and having it stuck you know the prop maxed out with with a static resistance [2533.38] NJ: where the as if the quad isn't moving is that's not a realistic uh that doesn't give you a realistic [2541.46] NJ: figure of the power curve so yeah it's that those prop stands static thrust things are [2549.06] NJ: they give you some information but on the whole the only way to do it is to get it on the quad [2553.22] NJ: and actually go out and fly it and it's incredibly subjective to the quad the geek in me needs to have [2558.74] Curry: an algorithm for this and a benchmark like you come up with a standard quad benchmark based on [2564.42] Curry: using a bunch of sensors to think of things like motor heat and the kv and the prop and the overall [2572.98] Curry: speed and the drag factor and then you put all those in this big thing and it comes out with a [2576.74] Curry: number and that's your number of your your relative quad performance you know what's [2582.02] Andy: interesting though as well there's so many variables even a different flight controller [2587.54] Andy: that actually affects the quad speed it's it's weird i've got i've got copters that have almost [2594.9] Andy: identical setups that give completely different speeds where the only difference is the flight [2600.58] NJ: controller and so yeah it's not fly by wire isn't it you're only telling the controller what you [2605.78] NJ: want what you want it to do and then it it does all the deciding so yeah exactly but yeah i did say [2612.66] NJ: this there's definitely a video that i will do as i've been thinking about it for quite a long time [2617.3] NJ: which was the idea i think i spoke to you about this when we were driving to that pig district [2622.74] NJ: spot about the idea of doing a video called throttle pits which is a strange concept but [2629.38] NJ: it's it's one where we we look at tuning the throttle to you and your flying style because [2634.42] NJ: what i like out of the throttle response might be completely different to what the rest of you do so [2640.1] NJ: but these are things that you need to be aware of to know how to tune the throttle to feel [2645.3] NJ: in in line with how you have your quad tuned for instance but we we just think of throttle as [2650.74] NJ: this linear you know zero to 100 go or stop and i know plenty of people actually fly like that [2656.74] NJ: 100 or nothing bloods saying that not pointing it good but but for me um one of the big things [2664.9] NJ: that i have to have on a quad is is when i'm falling and i want to stop like a couple of [2669.94] NJ: inches above the ground and i i want it to hit like a barn door and there's nothing in the [2674.58] NJ: tune that's going to do that you have to have the correct you have to have a moment with the right [2678.9] NJ: amount of torque and you have to have the correct prop match to that you need for me um and the way [2685.06] NJ: i like to fly i i've 2400 kv 2450 is about perfect a high torque motor and a prop that won't flex [2693.38] NJ: under load so when you put the throttle back in the prop won't actually twist and flatten out [2698.82] NJ: where i like problems with a high kv deflection that's called yeah i've been learning about that [2704.1] Andy: because those those thin blades apparently do that so that's something i'm going to watch out for [2709.54] NJ: and you can find if you go for a lower kv motor like i'm running but with a prop that does have [2715.62] NJ: a lot of that deflection problem where it flattens out you end up with quite a spongy throttle and [2721.14] NJ: why would you put up with a spongy unpredictable throttle feel when the rest of your quad is [2726.34] NJ: absolutely razor razor sharp in the tune so it's very important to get those two things well [2731.78] NJ: matched so that you get the feel i mean some people quite like the sponginess and they learn [2735.46] NJ: to fly to it and they know to jam the throttle a little harder before hitting that point where [2740.82] NJ: they want to stop suddenly for me i want to bring the throttle to a set point and have it just stop [2745.7] NJ: dead and and sit there and i've got lots of examples of that in flight videos and that is [2750.42] NJ: 100% down to proper motor choice um i i think it's an important subject that people tend to [2757.14] NJ: overlook and it can be the reason for a crash there's one video on my in my on my channel where [2763.7] NJ: i put a crash in at the end where i crashed into a tree and i'd spent the whole day [2768.42] NJ: doing close proximity to this tree with no issue at all and then the last flight i thought well [2773.22] NJ: let me try out those new uh it was one of the new v1s props which had a lot more flex in it than [2780.9] NJ: the props that i was using at the time which were the cyclones and i went and did exactly the same [2786.1] NJ: maneuver and i put the throttle put it in and there was just that little bit of extra sponge [2790.82] NJ: and it just went straight into the tree or it was the last battery [2797.22] NJ: final flight it's always the last battery [2801.38] NJ: always put that one away yeah but um yeah i think it's an interesting thing getting it [2808.18] Andy: yeah it's as sharp as the rest of youtube i'd love to see that video yeah because like [2814.9] Andy: nothing that i'm doing with these speed tests has got anything to do with that [2818.5] Andy: what what what i realize as well with the speed test is like usually like if someone approaches [2824.66] Andy: you they they ask you two questions well i ask you a few but they usually don't say hello either [2830.74] Jack: which always bugs me i haven't seen you here before do you come here often no what a smashing [2838.42] Andy: blouse you have on me i don't wear a blouse out there no way that's just for the show the blouse [2845.86] Andy: um they they say how much does it cost how fast can it go how high can it go and usually no one [2853.46] Andy: just set on 60 mile per hour and it actually seems that they're going a lot faster than 60 [2859.3] Andy: mile per hour quite a lot faster even my slowest quad is uh will will report like 48 50 mile per [2868.26] Andy: hour and that's a little micro and the micros are going much faster than we think they're going [2873.94] Andy: faster than the five inch less less drag more insane power and uh let less weight stops quicker [2882.66] Andy: as well i think three inch is the three inch models um they could i think they could really [2889.38] Tony: pounce all over five inch models in a way yeah i said that a few months ago yeah the lighter [2894.66] NJ: inertia as well you could definitely corner them like house flies that's the other thing as well [2900.1] Andy: i i've noticed i'm doing these runs that are 100 mile per hour plus and you turn and they've stopped [2906.1] Jack: you know so it's crazy yeah uh dan william says i got asked the new one are you a scientist [2914.98] Curry: that's quite a good one i'd love that question and my last question was do you have permission [2920.18] Curry: to be here yes which is rich coming from someone who's looking through the field as well or do you [2925.86] Jack: probably you know you probably got a bit of a suntan since you've been out there probably like [2929.94] Andy: you know brexit's happening you know i got i got asked once are you training for isis [2938.42] Jack: really yeah not helping your racist card [2943.54] Andy: are you working for isis and then he said did you know there used to be an airfield and that's two [2948.5] Andy: weird questions put together and and yes hello as well no yes i am no i did no don't say that [2957.46] Andy: i said i said i'm doing it to look in that window over there yeah yeah she's 19 [2967.78] Andy: uh yeah i but i don't know do you ever find like they never say hello it's the first thing i say [2974.02] Andy: i say hello all right no you go a up a lot yeah a up and and people just say how fast it go mate [2983.22] Jack: and like how are you how far mind you i did that at the um castle when we went and saw the guys [2990.82] Jack: didn't i i was like hey how fast is it how high does that go the guy started answering me took his [3001.7] NJ: goggles off and just went oh it's that dickhead i think green patch is uh a good one here you [3009.46] NJ: haven't been flying and when you land and take off the goggles there's a family quietly standing [3014.18] NJ: yeah i've had that i've had that it's scared the crap out it's funny it's funny though because um [3020.34] Andy: yeah if you're stood there with goggles people like will keep their distance but if you if you're [3026.66] Andy: just looking at it they'll come up and talk to you it's almost like you know they're they're [3032.02] Andy: they're afraid of you with the goggles on which i like of course i was out i was out for the other [3038.66] Tony: day went uh two days ago and um we had a group of oap's doing a walk pass and they all stopped and [3045.38] Tony: had a look and um one of my mates ran over with the goggles and handed it around and they were [3050.58] Tony: like oh he's upside down and it was they were loving it i think they'd been down the old pub [3056.9] Tony: yeah but they really enjoyed it and then we all just went over there and [3060.98] NJ: you know handed them the drones and apparently ash got uh it got licked in the face by a dog [3070.9] NJ: well he's just flying at the weekend so yeah absolutely get pumped by it [3076.9] Jack: he's like that i mean it's just like [3080.82] Curry: dogs are my biggest problem because the field i go to is quite inaccessible and it's only known [3085.22] Curry: about by professional dog walkers so i get groups of like seven to twelve dogs come up and they [3091.7] Curry: either take great offense that someone's there with goggles on which dogs don't recognize [3096.02] Curry: so as a pack they also are like and then they're in there or they're super friendly and they come [3101.3] Curry: and jump all over your stuff and uh because i've just put my glasses down on the mat and like i [3106.1] Curry: spent it was like scooby-doo where a velma loses her glasses and i was searching around for them [3111.06] Curry: on the floor because these dogs had come by and picked them kicked them around i was like terrible [3117.78] Andy: well i imagine at mini air show you're gonna have from my experience from hanging out with these [3122.98] Andy: guys there'll be fingers going in your ear up your bum all sorts of things i know they were [3130.66] Andy: horrified at what i got it was my it was like my first time flying in a big group of people and [3136.26] Andy: alls i've got is like fingers being poked in me everywhere i bet they stole your lunch money as [3141.86] Andy: well didn't they well they they stuck everything what lunch money's more than my soul they stole [3148.66] Andy: my dignity definitely i even brought sun cream [3155.94] Andy: oh yeah it's pointless for whales what's the weather forecast for tomorrow [3160.5] Tony: don't let's not even talk about it i'm not looking i fitted windscreen wipers to my camera so it's [3169.78] NJ: it's all fine so i was like who was it wasn't me i wasn't planning to get there until saturday [3179.7] NJ: morning but it's the five to go down tomorrow during setup is that what's happening yeah [3187.78] Tony: when the dude people go down there you know so yeah you should turn up i'm going down there to [3195.38] Tony: help set up basically so i'm going to be there from probably 11am okay i'll probably make maybe [3203.22] NJ: i've got some stuff to do before i leave and dig out my tent and all that so i'll probably maybe [3207.46] NJ: aim to get there so maybe three four something like that i think friday night's gonna be a good [3213.54] Tony: night when i've got a race saturday and do a demo but all right all right guys um why not to drink [3220.5] Jack: too
