[228.35] Frank: This is relating to Jack's sideline of podcasts and music.
[236.35] Frank: So the reason he occasionally disappears early at the end of a podcast is he's doing that live in a festival in a field this weekend,
[246.35] Frank: because I volunteered to do his volunteer slot for him so he could do some DJing.

[263.35] Frank: Yes, I'm going to be donning a Hyvis jacket again, just like I did at Mini Air Show.

[270.35] AndyRC: So this episode is sort of like the Mini Air Show rundown.
[274.35] AndyRC: Is that the idea?
[276.35] AndyRC: Yeah, what we saw.
[278.35] AndyRC: So what I want to, I guess this is a selfish question for me, but I was only there on the Saturday.
[285.35] AndyRC: So what went down?
[287.35] AndyRC: Perhaps I should say what happened on the Saturday, but I want to know what happened on the Sunday because I wasn't there.
[294.35] Frank: What's your sign?
[298.35] Frank: So should we start from the beginning?
[301.35] Frank: Yes.
[302.35] Frank: So Mini Air Show, that was a week before last, the weekend after International Drone Day, because that's when we could get a venue, essentially.
[315.35] Frank: And so on the Friday, a load of us turned up to set up the first thing in the morning.
[325.35] Frank: There was me and Gavin there emptying stuff out of their cars to try and have somewhere to sleep later on.
[334.35] Frank: The guys had already put up the giant marquees that we had, and we had a massive generator to play with.
[344.35] Frank: Eventually, we got going.
[345.35] Frank: So in previous years, Mini Air Show has been a sea of mini generators all over the place.
[351.35] Frank: We now have one massive one.
[353.35] Frank: So personally, that was like a good toy to play with.
[358.35] Frank: We got a load of things set up.
[362.35] Frank: We had the brand new flags and gates and things set up on the bottom drone zone dedicated netting area for FPV racing.
[376.35] Frank: So we set up the track over there with these massive hoops that were new for this year to raise up a section of the track around the trees where previously a lot of pilots have been caught out by going very low
[391.35] Frank: and ending up behind a little chalk mound and then you lose the entire signal because you're trying to transmit FPV signal through solid rock, which doesn't work too well.
[400.35] Frank: So we had these hoops to raise everyone up around that bit to try and improve the signal along there a bit.
[406.35] Frank: We had Martin from Fossils putting up the relay bays.
[416.35] Tony: And me, my IAD. Yeah. Thank you.
[420.35] Frank: Yeah. Lots of people were helping out in all these ways.
[427.35] Frank: Then we had you also brought along all the flags that Dom managed to get hold of a hold off for the event.
[437.35] Frank: And so we had those out for the for the racing wings and for the X class and freestyle. So we had those out on the main field at the wing pylons as well that were out on the field.
[459.35] Frank: We had a huge number of tables and benches and things all going up.
[464.35] Frank: We had the drone workshop area. We had the pilot's tent all filled with power and tables and chairs and things.
[473.35] Frank: Everyone could be charging and fixing and soldering and all that kind of stuff.
[477.35] AndyRC: That was packed, that tent was, wasn't it?
[480.35] AndyRC: Yeah. So I couldn't believe how much gear there was. Yeah.
[483.35] Frank: Yeah. Some of the photos and it's just like mountains of stuff.
[487.35] Tony: And the light track getting ready.
[489.35] Frank: Yep. Yeah, definitely.
[493.35] Frank: So Gary made use of the other half of that space and filled it with all his LEDs and interactive.
[504.35] Frank: The binary throttle racing system.
[508.35] Frank: He's in the chat. He's working on some course upgrades as we listen.
[516.35] Frank: So there were the lightning modes that Tony was demonstrating a lot.
[526.35] Frank: I did enjoy that.
[528.35] Frank: Yeah, there was the smoke generator and all sorts of things going on.
[537.35] Tony: There was even, I think Ash got a big surprise in his, one of his, should we not talk about that?

[553.35] Frank: Our resident fire marshal took it upon him.

[563.35] Tony: Someone was flying, Ash was flying his tiny whoop.
[569.35] Tony: And Richard decided to show Richard's tiny whoop to Ash.

[582.35] Frank: Many, many beers were had.

[597.35] Frank: Yeah, so we were all setting up the running cables and Jack was taught how to solder whatever fittings they were.
[608.35] Frank: I can't remember what they were now.
[609.35] Jack: They were the quarter inch Jacks and speed connectors as well.
[615.35] Frank: Yeah.
[616.35] Frank: So given a crash course in that and pointed in the right direction and soldering up all their speaker cables.
[623.35] Frank: We were doing a lot of stuff from scratch and managed to get it pretty much all working ish.
[634.35] Frank: The Saturday morning came along.
[637.35] Frank: We had the arts doing the freestyle out on the field while we were doing the registrations and the popular modelers were setting up on the field to do that kind of have loads of static displays like flying displays.
[657.35] Frank: So in between our demos that we had, they were kind of making use of the time in the space and keeping everyone entertained.
[667.35] Frank: They had 3D nitro helis, they had some 3D biplanes, all sorts of things they had going on there.
[681.35] Frank: Yeah, there was an alpha jet, there was a turbine vampire, there was Rupert White came along with his EDF vampire as well, so there were two vampires out there.
[692.35] Frank: He also brought along his fun jet, which went through, I can't remember, some crazy number of milliamps in under a minute.
[704.35] Curry: Did you all catch that? Because I was bigging out roots for a while saying you've got to watch how he launches it because it's mental.
[710.35] Curry: He just stands there, throws it in the air and it does about 50 spins before he gets it under control.
[716.35] Curry: And I was like, that's insane. And he's like, no, it's easy, you could fly it.
[719.35] Tony: One minute, 20 seconds, success.
[724.35] Jack: Mental.
[725.35] AndyRC: The noise that thing gave off as well was just like, when it started up, it like made me an ash jump.
[732.35] Tony: Oh, yeah, I jumped out of my skin hundreds of times when he started that thing up.
[738.35] Jack: Why are you employed in the car park?
[741.35] AndyRC: Yeah, it was so fast, wasn't it? It was just scarily quick, yeah. Like quicker than probably you could get a turbine going, really.
[750.35] Curry: I was way quicker than that turbine. But he had such trouble keeping it in that field because it's only small.
[757.35] Curry: It's like about two seconds worth of flight before he has to go up, come straight back down because he was getting towards 400 feet and straight back again.

[768.35] Curry: I was just going to say he has got a 12S version, but he didn't bring that with him because that would be, well, really mental.

[919.35] Tony: I started charging on this charger. I put it on my batteries and this bloke was going, excuse me, mate.

[930.35] Tony: What are you doing? You told me I'm allowed to use your charger.

[937.35] Curry: There was one interesting thing about that tent and that was the amount of really big, like,
[942.35] Curry: 12 amp multistar batteries running charges, but also the amount of races that have gone over the crossfire now.
[949.35] Curry: It was literally all crossfire. I didn't see any 2.4 gear at all now.
[954.35] Tony: I know there was. I haven't switched over, but there was. Everyone was on it.
[960.35] Tony: Mind you, I got told every if you if quite a lot of races are on crossfire, they start having problems.
[966.35] Frank: They have to turn off the telemetry on the crossfire protocol because that interferes with everything else.
[973.35] Jack: It makes that I'm too wide, isn't it?
[976.35] Frank: Yeah, something like that. I don't know. Radio magic stuff. I just know that it's bad.
