[216.58] NJ: from the dentist. He actually just said, yeah, he got a set of pliers and just pulled it out himself.
[223.38] NJ: Tell me how he stuffed aspirin in it. And he's completely fine. But it's amazing how,

[313.22] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: So my real life name is Jamie. I had been flying for just over a year and yeah, I enjoy flying
[324.42] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: quite a bit. I fly as often as I can and I have a lot of other hobbies as well for the people that
[332.18] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: don't know. I just urge you to check out my social media because it's way easier than trying to
[336.42] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: explain all of the things that I do. But yeah, I'm kind of just like my own human being.
[342.82] NJ: So what got you into it? Was it someone or something you saw happen? What drew you into
[349.62] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: quads into this trap that you are now? Okay, so I was out hiking one day and I ended up in a
[357.14] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: situation that would have easily been avoided had I been able to just, you know, look around a corner
[361.62] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: instead of dangerously going around it and then being stuck and having to go back around. And
[368.18] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: that spurred me to think about like drones in general. And I started looking into the Mavics
[372.58] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: when they were in Kickstarter. And then that sort of led me into mini quads in general. And then
[377.54] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: that's where I'm at now. It just all sort of evolved from that one incident of getting stuck
[382.1] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: while I was out hiking and being like, man, this is terrible. I wish I could just look around the
[385.62] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: corner. And now it's grown into something totally different. Yeah, that's really interesting. That's
[390.74] NJ: quite an unusual way to get into the hobby, but very practical explanation for how a good logical
[397.78] NJ: line of thinking. So what are you flying now? What's your quarter choice at the minute?
[404.42] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: Well, I have three. And they're all kind of the same, but kind of different. The one that I fly
[411.78] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: the most right now is probably it's a custom frame that one of my Coastal Carolina guys designed and
[418.66] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: built for us. Mine has four and a half inch arms instead of five, but it runs five inch props. And
[424.26] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: I have a luminaire Popo's on it and flight one. So is that those behind you what we can see? Because
[431.94] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: there's three. How'd you look at the Popo's? Oh, goodness, I love the Popo's. So this is the one
[440.82] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: I was just talking about. Um, I call it the free J. Like that's its nickname. And the Popo's are
[447.14] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: just about like the most amazing thing in the whole world. I'm terrible about I'm super terrible
[452.66] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: about like cutting my fingers up when I'm tightening my props on any of my other motors. But these
[457.22] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: ones, it's just as simple as just putting the prop on and twisting till it clicks. And that's it like
[463.14] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: it doesn't come off. And I love it. Like I've crashed into trees and the ground and concrete
[471.38] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: and everything and the props will bend a little bit, but I haven't gotten them to release at all.
[477.86] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: So they're actually really amazing. And they fly super smooth in general, just by themselves.
[482.42] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: So like, of course, they do luminaire in general, all of their motors are just like super silky
[487.54] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: smooth. But these ones are really nice. They have a really nice punch to them. I love them a lot.
[492.34] NJ: Awesome. Are they actually I presume with that mechanism, they're a little more expensive than
[497.38] NJ: standard props or the props or the motors? That's the props themselves. They're like four bucks a
[505.14] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: pack. So they're really not that much more expensive. I know that HQ just put out props
[517.46] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: that are Popo compatible as well and a couple of other brands. But honestly, I think that
[522.42] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: every brand of motors, it would be super smart to do something like this because look at how easy
[527.62] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: I just put that prop on and it's not coming off like no tools, no nothing. I'm going to sit here
[532.5] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: and just like pop it on and off just to fiddle with it the whole time I'm sitting here now.
[535.86] NJ: Well, this is a bold move, I guess, by it's get FPV that came up with those, wasn't it?
[541.3] NJ: The linear guys, Tim, his name is. So I mean, I think that's great. That's the innovation side
[549.3] NJ: of the hobby that I think needs to happen. And you just need to keep pushing forward with great
[555.06] NJ: ideas and hope that more manufacturers adopt the technology. But yeah, I haven't seen anyone. I
[562.02] NJ: mean, obviously, there's a lot of skepticism about the about the design before it came out,
[566.74] NJ: but it's nice to hear feedback from someone who's actually using them and flying them that they are
[570.74] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: good and convenient and all the good stuff. Oh, yeah. Well, I was extremely skeptical. Like
[576.9] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: when I first got them, the first session that I had with them, I'm not even going to lie,
[581.78] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: I had prop nuts on because I was like, my props were just gonna get lost. So it really,
[588.42] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: he I was really worried that I was just gonna like end up in the top of a tree or whatever.
[593.22] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: They were just gonna pop off. And then after flying them as much as I have, and like I said,
[598.34] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: I've slammed them into anything, everything, and they don't come off. I am so confident. Like,
[604.1] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: this is for something that other motor companies, other brands, everybody should really adapt this
[610.34] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: type of because it's awesome. Like it is 100% innovative. And I like I said, all of my other
[617.14] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: ones, I cut my fingers up tightening props. That one is just like pop, pop, pop, and I'm done.
[622.18] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: And I'm not bleeding anywhere. So it's kind of great.
[625.94] NJ: Awesome. So there's there's a question we can throw out to the board. What's, what's everyone's
[630.26] NJ: favourite type of prop? What a good question. Andy, let me hear because I know you probably go
[637.06] NJ: through and test as a million types of prop as I do. So what's what's working for you at the minute?
[641.62] AndyRC: Just just one that's not broken, really.
[646.82] AndyRC: Oh, my favourite prop. I don't know. I'm kind of what it depends really, because that's a freestyle
[654.9] AndyRC: and racing completely different, really, isn't it? You know, for freestyle, I like the low,
[662.42] AndyRC: low pitch for the slowest, smoother speeds. And then for racing, just yeah, if you if you're
[669.3] AndyRC: into speed that any brand preference, come on, commit. So so for three, the thing is, when we're
[675.62] AndyRC: talking about speed, I don't think five inch, I mean, I was talking to MJ about this the other
[681.38] AndyRC: day, but the speed like three inches where it's at for me. And so I haven't tried she said.
[688.18] AndyRC: So I haven't tried the latest gem fan. What is it, MJ? The 5030 56C, which are the ones I've been
[702.58] NJ: trying on that on those Cobra 4100s. And yeah, they're actually great. That one thing I should
[708.26] NJ: say about those, I've actually got this in bits because I'm modifying it. But one thing I can say
[712.98] NJ: about these props is, even though it's rated as a 56, being what a lot of the Emacs props do,
[720.34] NJ: like the Yvonne props were very heavy at the root, which is where they get their 56 figure rather
[724.58] NJ: than an average to describe the pitch. And it actually tapers out very flat towards the tip.
[729.22] NJ: So even though it's described pitch, of course, making the pitches pitch, even though it flattens
[737.22] NJ: out towards the tip, it's actually a very efficient prop. So don't be put off by the high
[743.54] NJ: pitch figures and think it's just going to be a crazy high amp drawing prop. It's actually not,
[749.54] AndyRC: it's pretty good. Good top end as well. Yeah, so for three inch, then I haven't tried that one,
[755.94] AndyRC: but the Flash 3052s, they got some insane performance on three inch. But I don't know,
[767.38] AndyRC: it's different for every copter. Like for example, I've tried those Avan flow props on
[774.02] AndyRC: loads of different copters and they haven't been that great, but on the Hawke 5, they're just
[780.34] NJ: perfect. So agreed. Yeah, they did go very well with those motors. So it all depends. Yeah,
[786.1] AndyRC: I try not to like have a preference to a brand otherwise. I like to try all sorts of different
[793.46] AndyRC: ones. But actually saying that my favourite prop is the Dal Cyclone 5046 and 45. Yeah,
[800.9] NJ: they're great props. Yeah. Such a solid prop. I used to use those on a lot of quads for quite
[805.86] NJ: a lot of time before my favourite. But yeah, I can see them. Yeah, Stella's just pointing them
[811.06] NJ: out the back there. I can see you've got a few there. Yeah, great prop. For me personally,
[818.1] NJ: at the minute, I was very much about those Dal Cyclone 5045s were great for me. It's now the HQ
[827.14] NJ: V1S and they are the 4.8 pitch tri-blades. So those are just in terms of efficiency and
[832.98] NJ: performance and fact that they're light. They're just working really well for my setups, motor
[837.46] NJ: KV and all the rest of it. Tony, race of perspective, what's working for you?
[842.34] Tony: Cyclones. Really, what pitch?
[845.62] Tony: 40.5s I like. Right, on a high KV? All low at call.
[850.1] Tony: 23 and 26. Okay, that's very different setups.
[853.78] Tony: I prefer my 2300 KV to my 26. But I like them for freestyle as well. I've moved over to the
[867.46] Tony: oh shit, what were they called? V1S? Yeah. And I had quite a lot of jello and my
[874.34] Tony: mate Brad was like, go back to cyclones and see if you get jello and I don't anymore.
[879.94] NJ: Yeah, well, this is the thing. It's a horses for courses thing and it sometimes does work out that
[886.5] NJ: one particular prop just won't work great with one particular quad. So it's always good to
[891.86] NJ: try these things out. How about you, Kerry Kitten?
[894.82] Curry: I don't know about you guys, I don't often get the chance to say here's my one quad that I'm
[901.06] Curry: going to use a lot and change props. So it's kind of like this is going with this props,
[904.18] Curry: what are these like? So they're the ones that are crap. And when something's crap, I was like,
[908.34] Curry: I'll put my cyclones 5045s on and then you watch it fly better. So that's always a great go to.
[914.74] AndyRC: I can see them in the background, a set of green ones.
[918.1] Curry: There's a setup there. I really like the HQ V1S on the Mojo 230. It's not something I would have
[928.42] Curry: looked at because they're only like 5040. But that thing flies really nicely for freestyle. It's
[934.98] Curry: like completely different than all the other quads. So I'd certainly go and buy those again.
[940.26] Curry: If I ever get time, it's going to sort of get one quad, put a bunch of props on it and actually see
[944.5] Curry: what flies better because it's normally the case of I have these props, I break them,
[948.26] Curry: I replace them with the same props instead of trying other things.
[953.54] NJ: Andrew, have you got any input on your prop preference?
[956.82] Frank: I bought a huge tonne of 5045 V2s and I've just been using them because I got them.
[965.62] NJ: That's a good one. Yeah, that's come up plenty of times.
[969.14] Frank: Yeah. Jamie, because we're just talking about, and Jay said about racing versus freestyle.
[980.26] Frank: I've seen a lot of your videos, you've been doing basically, I mean, everything.
[986.1] Frank: You've been doing proximity and bandos, you've been doing freestyle and big spaces,
[990.9] Frank: you've been doing some, I saw some racing sort of, was it end of last year-ish I think?
[998.98] Frank: Have you been doing more racing as well? Or have you stuck with freestyle?
[1003.86] Frank: What sort of way have you been finding some of the most fun recently?
[1008.18] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: So, I started with a lot of racing because actually my local group established the multi-g
[1014.82] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: group that we have and I did that for quite a while and then my job prevented me from attending
[1020.74] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: races. It seemed like I was always working every single time we would have a race, so I just
[1026.5] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: sort of fell out of racing in general. But overall, I much prefer freestyle.
[1031.38] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: I like being able to bop around and sort of like listen to music and flow and do the things that I
[1035.54] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: want versus being like stuck in a particular track where I have to go exactly the same places
[1040.9] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: where everybody else is going the whole time. I really like being able to be creative and just
[1045.3] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: sort of move about a space and just do what feels right in the moment that I'm there.
[1050.34] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: And my bounds versus, I don't know, racing. A lot of the guys are super duper competitive as well
[1057.06] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: and I feel that while a lot of times that can be a lot of fun, sometimes it also takes away from
[1062.9] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: how much time flying can be because they're being a little bit too competitive and they're worried
[1066.66] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: about breaking everything they own and breaking hundreds of dollars a year, which I can't stand.
[1072.58] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: I can't. I don't like breaking stuff and when I'm flying freestyle, I break a lot less
[1077.3] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: because I'm not like slamming into other people or other people aren't slamming into me or I'm not
[1081.94] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: slamming into two inch metal poles or stuff like that. I don't know. I much prefer freestyle and
[1089.3] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: I've sort of just stuck with that mostly because of my schedule, but also the couple of opportunities
[1094.34] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: I've had, it's just I've gone out to the tracks and it's not really felt right anymore. So I
[1098.66] NJ: don't really do that a lot. Jamie, just a quick question because it's slightly topical from last
[1105.14] NJ: week. Just for our viewers as well, what part of the world are you in? We're about to see you.
[1109.7] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: I'm in eastern North Carolina, close to North Carolina.
[1112.82] NJ: Right. Okay and how are the regulations out there for you and have you found any
[1122.26] NJ: negativity towards the hobby or have you had any experiences that might be slightly negative or is
[1127.14] NJ: it mainly all been positive? Any incidents with authorities or anything that you can tell us about?
[1133.06] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: Personally, no. Honestly, I haven't dealt with any negativity from any sort of authority or
[1140.98] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: from either even bystanders. Most of the people that have seen it have been really, really curious
[1146.42] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: and when we go on race, we have written permission where we go on race at. We've had the mayor come
[1152.5] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: out a couple of times and he's come out and checked out things and we've had spectators and stuff like
[1156.1] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: that. But in general, I've never dealt with any issues. We try to stay out of the air during
[1164.66] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: certain times because I live in a very heavily military area and there's a lot of helicopters
[1169.78] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: and stuff like that. So when we hear the choppers, obviously we stay out of the air because we're
[1174.5] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: trying to give them their space and not cause any problems. But we haven't had any sort of issues.
[1181.94] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: The cops have all been super friendly and super interested in it when they've seen it.
[1185.54] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: And then when I'm traveling, even when I'm traveling, I haven't dealt with any, I've had one
[1189.7] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: mean asshole cop. That's it the whole time I've been flying.

[1198.42] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: Yeah, he actually, he was like a run a cop and we were in a parking lot of this big building where
[1203.86] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: there was nobody there. It was a completely big, empty open parking lot and we were just goofing
[1208.42] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: off. And one of the guys I was flying with apparently flew a little bit too close to him
[1213.14] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: while he was just sort of like walking around the perimeter of the building. So he came over
[1217.54] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: and he got yelled at us and told us that we were on private property and we were trespassing and
[1221.86] Jamie 'littlestellarfox' Ann: we needed to leave and got all angry and ridiculous. But we were like, whoa, man. So we just left.

[1538.5] AndyRC: very cheap and they're like multi-protocol. And so, yeah, they came out with the Jumper T8SG plus,
[1546.74] AndyRC: and it was DeviationTX based. And it couldn't run Crossfire because DeviationTX doesn't support
[1555.3] AndyRC: Crossfire. So they come up with an OpenTX version, but they did it. Now, I think OpenTX knew that
[1565.54] AndyRC: they were doing it, but I think there was some conflict over. Wasn't it something about they
[1573.14] AndyRC: just basically copied the Freesky QX7? Yeah, that's from what I read. Yeah, if anyone's not
[1581.22] NJ: sure what the Jumper transmitter looks like, there's one. There's my little review unit that
[1585.86] NJ: I haven't actually reviewed yet. Oh, it's MJ Tech Yellow. It is an MJ Tech Yellow. I can't even
[1591.62] NJ: stick upon that, can I? Because my logo won't show up. Yeah, it's the new version of this.
[1596.82] NJ: This runs DeviationTX and has a built-in four-in-one module so it can run multiple protocols.
[1602.66] NJ: But the biggest complaint was that it wasn't natively Crossfire compatible despite having
[1607.22] NJ: the module in the back. So what they did was listen to that. They brought out an OpenTX version
[1612.9] NJ: which does have native Crossfire compatibility because this will work with Crossfire. But as
[1619.62] NJ: Andy has mentioned before, this will only work with Crossfire in a PPM manner, which obviously
[1625.46] NJ: then doesn't give you the latency and all the wonderful stuff that Crossfire gives you.
[1629.78] NJ: So yeah, that new T12, there's a bit of controversy about what's going on. But the long and short of
[1636.74] NJ: it is, I think, they've said at the end, the guy over at Jumper has turned around and said,
[1643.46] NJ: we're going to fork it, in which case it's open source anyway, and we will start this fork
[1648.5] NJ: from version one and call it JumperTX. Is that right? Yeah, so there's going to be,
[1653.14] AndyRC: I don't understand, though, how something just called OpenTX can get refused to be used
[1659.46] AndyRC: because it makes, and I think it's upset. If you look at the, it's very sort of polarized,
[1665.7] AndyRC: isn't it? Some people like, well, don't call it OpenTX if anyone can't use it. But then I think
[1673.38] AndyRC: there's a lot of people that have put a lot of work into OpenTX and they don't like what
[1677.94] AndyRC: Jumper have done. So then they're sort of saying you can use the code but not the name,

[1689.78] NJ: they seem like the main honcho over at Jumper was trying to go the correct route to inform
[1697.62] NJ: people that it was going on to the transmitter, X, Y, and Z, and apparently he made his sizable
[1704.18] NJ: donations to the team and what have you. And they've come back and said, well, what we're
[1708.66] NJ: upset about, this is only my interpretation, which I probably got wrong, but they seem to be
[1714.66] NJ: upset because of the lack of innovation. Like they'd just taken a straight copy
[1718.58] NJ: of OpenTX from the QX7 and dumped it onto the transmitter and tried to botch it into working
[1724.42] AndyRC: as opposed to. When I got it, it was, it got the internal RF module turned on and it hasn't
[1732.1] AndyRC: gotten internal. So yeah, they definitely, yeah, things like that are a bit lazy. Yeah,

[1925.7] NJ: He said the quad ball bearing, the actual material we chose for the gimbals was very specific.
