[248.4] Curry: um not long i've been sitting around here since october and i finally tested out because it was
[253.28] Curry: a review i was writing for a magazine and i wanted to see if there was a difference to
[258.4] Curry: now i i would say you and me uh we describe ourselves as more the casual flight if i can
[263.12] Curry: put us both in there we're not racers are we going to see this big difference in this latency thing
[268.56] Curry: they talk about obviously racer people want to get this like the milliseconds down they can there's
[274.08] Curry: the faster response i can see how they can make a difference but i also thought with racers there's
[279.44] Curry: a kind of like yeah i can feel it i can definitely feel it and it's all like yeah right of course you
[283.36] Curry: can but i have to say i i configured it on a quad so i had my freesky s bus receiver on there
[290.64] Curry: and the crossfire so i went out and i flew a battery on freesky i came back down i spot
[295.84] Curry: the receiver over flew it on crossfire and it i could feel the difference i was amazed it just
[300.72] Curry: feels a lot more responsive and i think it's those you know when you come out like a big maneuver
[306.24] Curry: because if obviously if you just move the stick you quads gonna do this no matter what it's when
[310.88] Curry: you come out and you do those little tiny corrections that you need to make to get yourself
[314.72] Curry: back in again i found it was it was better for that those tiny little things are just more
[319.84] Curry: responsive and you could bring it back but at the same time i could also take the tvs because
[326.16] Curry: i ain't got a big field but there's pockets around my field that if i go low it just goes
[331.52] Curry: around and goes plop and falls out of the sky because it's like telemetry is lost and like
[335.6] Curry: you're down and in the in the tvs stuff i could just go go out anywhere and fly anywhere so
[340.96] Curry: obviously it's you know if you if you whack up the the tx power and fly a reasonable height you
[347.68] Curry: know you get over 10k on it not not a problem of course you run out of video range but it's it's
[353.04] Curry: an impressive system it's very very slick i really was impressed with the uh the crossfire in terms
[358.08] Curry: of you know how it updates the module and yeah over the over the air update is great isn't it

[677.44] NJ: but no the problem was originally the the the massive um cost of the of the big unit that does
[687.84] NJ: up to was it one or two watts that's the one andy bought yeah i remember saying and whenever i
[696.08] NJ: chat to andy about this stuff like we had a chat about going crossfire and i said look you've got
[699.84] NJ: to jump on it it's great check it out and then i think he had a few beers and then he was meant to
[704.96] NJ: get the the micro crossfire and just ended up buying the full one seriously 100 milliwatts is
[711.84] NJ: plenty to go miles like you don't need to get get the crazy one but um that's that's where things
[718.32] NJ: ended up but yeah it's that's very affordable that new unit the uh the micro tx and the performance
[724.0] NJ: is great and now because of the latest update which unlocks the amplifier to 250 milliwatts
[729.92] NJ: which incidentally i checked out this evening and on my six inch quad went for a long-range fly
[735.76] NJ: and it was pegged at 99 rss i like the entire flight it didn't it budged maybe once or twice
[741.68] NJ: in a turn but i was out more than i was comfortable i always say fly as fly as far as you're prepared
[748.56] NJ: to walk because if stuff goes wrong you've got a hell of a walk to go and get it there you go
[753.28] Jack: that's why jack hasn't built one it would be insane thanks for saying by the way well you
[761.44] NJ: just said it as well so yeah but it's it's a it's a fantastic system i think the thing that makes
[769.04] NJ: tv i mean they've been around for a long time tbs and they've been you know right at the beginning
[773.2] NJ: that even when we go back to things like for those of you that remember the f 450 flame wheel kits by
[780.16] NJ: dji and those people were modifying those and tbs came out with uh i can't remember the name of it
[786.0] NJ: someone in the chat will have to nudge my memory discovery there you go exactly that for and it
[791.12] NJ: was an adaptive kit that would take the dji arms and that was that was brilliant and they're just
[798.08] NJ: enthusiastic trappy was always in the forums he was always talking to everyone and and that ethos
[802.4] NJ: of support is what they're so approachable as a company and there's such a good community
[808.08] NJ: helping all the time and feeding back and beta testing and blah blah blah so they feel like
[814.24] NJ: they're very much part of the hobby whereas some companies you just get stuff and if it works great
[819.52] NJ: if it doesn't you're kind of shouting at a brick wall in terms of getting things fixed and updated
[826.08] NJ: and revisions and what have you you know this thing with the amplifier unlocking the amplifier
[831.52] NJ: this was a classic example where you've got someone who did the modification said yeah
[835.68] NJ: this amplifies fine for 250 milliwatts and then trappy and his team turning around and saying
[841.36] NJ: okay sure we'll we'll put the update in and yeah it seems to work we'll let everyone have it
[847.6] NJ: so the constant listening i think is what keeps them relevant i think it'd be good if more
[852.48] Ash: companies did that but then on the other hand i've got an x9d i've never felt that i needed
[857.84] Ash: support for it i've got lots of fr skyreseeker so cheap that when they pop you just buy another one
[863.84] NJ: yeah that that is true and they they i mean it depends what's driving it because what if fr sky
[870.4] NJ: didn't have open tx would it be the same situation you know open tx is a kind of the driving force
[877.68] NJ: behind a lot of the fr sky stuff and they but they do listen when they bring out the hardware
[883.04] NJ: and and even if things are missing they try and correct it with accessories and and what have you
[888.0] NJ: but they got they got a lot of stick for putting in that that part of that component that altered
[895.12] NJ: the bound rate a board rate sorry i upset people when i say bound board rate yeah when when that
[902.8] NJ: came out that ended up hindering the crossfire stuff and there was a lot of speculation that
[907.36] NJ: they were doing that to push their own long-range system um and that that obviously meant a lot
[914.56] NJ: there was a lot of people who didn't buy the x10 because of that problem i was lucky my x10 which
[919.76] NJ: was uh it wasn't a prototype but it was a very very early release one for review didn't have that
[926.08] NJ: hardware modification in it so mine works fine with crossfire haven't got the board rate problem
[931.04] NJ: yeah weirdly i've got a really early um qx7 and that's fine as well yeah exactly the same thing
[937.2] Curry: exactly the same thing although you do notice that the new uh x light is absolutely fine with
[941.04] Curry: it if you're prepared to hack the back off and do stuff to it yes yes it's i've actually opened
[946.0] NJ: that up quite recently because i'm going to install and do a video on let me show you this
[951.12] NJ: for anyone that's got an x light anyone know what this is these are the switches but i don't think
[957.6] NJ: you can see it if i just show you this one it springs back so they've got a momentary block
[965.36] NJ: that you can put in there if you're missing the fact that they come without a momentary switch
[970.4] NJ: it's quite involved to chuck that in but um i've already taken it apart once it's a bit of a pig to
[976.4] NJ: undo but yeah we're going to be installing one of those momentary switches in there
[982.48] NJ: well a trainer switch well you can use it for that or for pre-arms the other thing that people like
[987.12] NJ: having momentary for so you obviously hold it in arm your quad and then when you let go it springs
[991.76] Ash: back triggering things like um flights and readouts and voltage readouts and things yeah i'm just
[999.12] Jack: going to take the cart of you saying boat rate or whatever it is i'll be making triggering
[1006.4] Curry: doing some soldering with these router in a second i know lie so i suppose the question
[1012.0] Curry: in nj is we were talking about um no doubt crossfire's fantastic system but is it is it the case
[1018.8] Curry: that um trapeze acting like a dick with all this like oh free sky cloning us because they've made
[1025.52] Curry: a t antenna that looks like ours and everyone's against us because they've altered the board rate
[1031.2] Curry: and ignoring the fact that all the crossfire systems out there plug into tyrannuses and stuff
[1036.24] Curry: um but as we were saying earlier on it's although free sky is sort of taking the high road as it
[1042.88] Curry: seems in in what they're saying that they're also producing a module and a receiver for 30 quid which
[1047.36] Curry: is insanely cheap and really doesn't undercut what uh well isn't isn't that a little bit of the
[1053.28] NJ: chinese ethos in terms of you know getting this stuff made making a penny on every product they're
[1058.88] NJ: probably still making a profit that's the funny thing isn't it yeah just about i mean i i totally

[1069.36] NJ: tyrannis weren't the first to come up with that module but it was actually jr that that came up

[1080.0] NJ: anybody everybody in fpv is jr got out the got out of the the transmitter making business a
[1087.04] NJ: while ago now they they quit which is a shame that i love the early jr stuff i'm sure i've
[1091.6] Jack: still got one somewhere in there stand for japan radio and out but i mean even when it came down
[1097.12] NJ: the lawsuits with trape um he's a man of you know wherever you stand he's a man of integrity stands

[1111.6] NJ: now i respect him for what he's doing and he's always been very receptive so you know i'm very
[1116.08] NJ: much uh appreciate what he does for for the hobby and whatever you but i mean this stuff

[1128.24] NJ: about what other companies are doing i mean at the end of the day the competition is healthy

[1138.96] NJ: this is a classic example is cadix the cadix turtles which i've been flying and i've put in
[1145.28] NJ: this guy and did a review in comparison against the run cam split mini one of the things i said
[1150.32] NJ: about it was it it's great because it's a single board and fits in the flight stack whereas the
[1154.48] NJ: run cam split mini was two boards literally within i think it was last week run cam posted
[1161.44] NJ: a picture saying hope you like our new run cam split mini two all the same compo it's essentially
[1167.44] NJ: it's the same camera but now they've added added it all onto one board which was clearly a response
[1173.6] NJ: to say we don't want cadix taking any of our business um otherwise they would have left their
[1178.48] NJ: feet up on the coffee table i'm sure um because that when there's been long periods like that
[1184.56] NJ: they where nothing's in direct competition with them they they're quite happy to take their time
[1189.52] NJ: cadix comes out and suddenly so does this as a response again we win because we get the
[1195.36] Tony: products one looks really good well one of my mates has got got a little um one we fly to cadix
[1203.04] NJ: in there and it's it looks really good it's taken a lot more messing around with than the run cams
[1208.48] NJ: uh the the split um the split you just the fpv picture's good from the off the only thing
[1214.24] NJ: i'll say is i do notice a latency difference it's definitely i think um arcy shim does really good
[1220.88] NJ: latency test if you want to know latency on a camera you should go and check him out
[1225.04] NJ: but he's um he did a test on this and actually came in at 22 milliseconds which is great that's
[1231.68] NJ: that's really good for a fpv feed latency that's also doing a 1080p 60 yeah recording as well well
[1239.6] Tony: it's got to be the future then if the if is there a gopro session six coming out or is it
[1245.04] NJ: no that's why the gopros went on sale went down crazy low and now everyone's going mad for them
[1251.44] NJ: and the prices are rocketing again so if you want a session five and you see one cheap get it
[1256.4] NJ: because they're now going up in price again because they realize gopro aren't making another one
[1262.24] NJ: it's still the defiant it's still the benchmark that's that's the thing and i've taken out today
[1268.96] NJ: and i don't know where i've put it now but i've got the uh runcam sent me the 3s box camera
[1275.52] Jack: doesn't fit not the same form factor though bigger than the session yeah it's bigger than
[1280.56] NJ: the session so it won't fit anything um that's probably to the point being sued again isn't it
[1285.2] Curry: yeah it's probably it was i think for a product that's discontinued it was the form factor that
[1291.2] NJ: got runcam sued in the first place exactly the same dimensions it's bigger and lighter isn't it
[1296.96] NJ: it's lighter by a couple of grams nothing meaningful if you're going to run an hd cam
[1301.04] NJ: anyway um it's a pain because you've got to reprint for me the focus would have been
[1306.88] Jack: let's make it a tiny bit smaller not a tiny bit bigger yeah and then and then have people just
[1313.2] Jack: put a wedge of foam a bit of something in there yeah exactly yeah that that would have been the
[1318.0] NJ: way to go um but making it bigger and although it's a few like a millimeter or so you you notice

[1363.6] NJ: to find out what people wanted in an hd cam because i'll sit in there thinking is it just
[1368.48] NJ: me that thinks this stuff is just all bad decisions making it bigger going with an
[1372.88] NJ: external battery which i think is fine if you're someone that wants to replace batteries and you're
[1377.44] NJ: using it all day but i think most of us are happy just plug it into a usb and charging it and go
[1383.04] NJ: but i ran the poll and the number one thing of everyone that did the poll
[1387.2] NJ: was waterproofing everyone wants waterproofing that was a real real big one and that might be
[1393.52] NJ: just my group i've seen a lot of cameras killed going into puddles and and into water yeah if
[1399.68] Tony: you're gonna do a fight over the sea and or pond or whatever and and you do stack it and you can
[1405.12] Tony: retrieve your quad but you want that footage don't you you wouldn't want it wrecked as well
[1410.0] Tony: you want oh at least i've got the footage of me crashing yeah take the quad take the quad just

[1427.44] Curry: that's like a tiny mini little camera for the price it's very good it's only 12 quid and that
[1433.44] NJ: it's not bad you can put it on a micro quad yeah tell us about that one curry kitten because i
[1438.8] Curry: saw your video on that yeah i checked out the the sq12 and um who was the other people firefly did
[1446.8] Curry: this little um and that they were they were okay the the firefly actually came out with the most
[1453.76] Curry: stable footage because one of the problems again because it's much much smaller is when you mount
[1459.6] Curry: it with a regular strap around the regular thing designed for a session you've got a great big space
[1465.28] Curry: and so the stuff i had i had some jello coming back from it but the the lighting handling and
[1470.72] Curry: the actual picture quality on it was pretty good especially for 12 quid because it's almost
[1474.88] Curry: disposable like i said you put an sd card in you've just doubled the value of your camera
[1481.52] Curry: and the fact you can carry them on a um a micro is really quite nice because of course previous
[1487.68] Curry: to that we were thinking oh you have to put a dvr board in to get something reasonable
[1492.08] Curry: but where you can just put on a camera that like weighs nothing and you just tape it on
[1496.24] Curry: and takes reasonable 1080p 30 footage it's it's pretty good i mean it's it's not gonna it's not
[1501.68] Curry: gonna compete with a gopro but for the situations i suggested it's for people just getting into the
[1507.52] Curry: hobby you know you don't want to put a brand new gopro on it and stuff it straight into the the
[1512.8] Tony: floor that's a good point do you think the future is going to be like the kadex and the
[1517.6] Tony: the run cams and like not having that um 72 or whatever grams gopro on your quad anymore
[1525.68] NJ: well my personal opinion having worked with i spent some time on both of these the kadex
[1532.72] NJ: and the run cam split and the split mini and all of them is that the improvements are incremental
[1539.2] NJ: but they're getting better you you've got to remember you're getting your main you're getting
[1543.28] NJ: your camera and your hd camera in one and just the weight of those two things which is like 11
[1548.8] NJ: grams so there's a lot of pluses to that where it's more of a problem i think will be for the
[1554.48] NJ: races because they're going to want less late and see them 22 for freestyle it's absolutely fine
[1560.24] NJ: but my point is that this this guy that i did i've been doing the testing on that is a 4s
[1569.52] NJ: now hd 1080p 60 with gps module on it and return to home working and that is 248 grams
[1579.12] NJ: all the power all the power of my bigger quads maybe even slightly more that's got to be the
[1584.48] NJ: future then isn't it well yeah i'm flying it i'm flying it if i fly efficiently i get
[1589.2] NJ: like five minutes of flight out of an 850 4s there and that won't need registration when
[1595.36] NJ: that kicks in next year it's under 250 grams therefore safer it's a bit quieter etc etc it's
[1601.12] Ash: i think this is where things will end up probably will so on that note i'm not a race or anything
[1606.88] Ash: but the guys that fly freestyle and want to capture really good video could the all-in-one
[1612.64] Ash: camera be an issue where they want to point their high definition camera to a different angle than
[1617.6] Ash: their fbv flying camera or do you generally have them pointed at the same angle same angle

[1704.24] NJ: etc so you can really tailor it to what you like um i've now got it to a point where i find it
[1711.44] NJ: it's absolutely fine for flying fpv it doesn't it doesn't upset me let's put it that way whereas
[1717.44] NJ: what i saw out the box did upset me so i think it's fine the other thing i'll say is that if you
[1724.24] NJ: go for one of these cameras make sure you put the OSD extension plug somewhere where you can get to
[1730.08] NJ: because it's a camera unlike the split mini where each day's conditions might need a little tweak
[1738.56] NJ: and it's very quick and easy to do so just plug in tweak it in the fpv feed to get it look nice

[2208.4] NJ: beginners the most disorientating thing for a beginner as soon as they get above 10 meters up
