[333.66] Curry: we met them at the drone show and i i was talking about sims i said to be honest i haven't looked at
[339.02] Curry: it because roto rush uses a subscription model and i didn't like the idea of carry on paying
[344.46] Curry: for something um but nigel came up with like lots of things that he does and i thought well
[351.18] Curry: that's very good why does nobody know about this and it's mainly because a nigel doesn't tell
[355.58] Curry: them and they they probably just look at the price and sort of move on so we wanted to get
[360.78] Curry: you on the show to to let you explain the extra bits that roto rush does because obviously it's
[366.62] Curry: a sim but you guys are taking that subscription money and doing stuff with it aren't you which
[371.5] Curry: i thought well that's a really nice sort of ethos to have please explain first of all can i just say
[377.5] Nigel: that roto rush is not a sim um the sim is just a part of what roto rush is and i think this is what
[383.9] Nigel: we've we've been pretty poor at explaining and and getting that message across well i've already
[390.06] AndyRC: cut it wrong in the first two minutes now so yeah can i just say as well roto rush was the first
[398.22] AndyRC: as soon as it came out i paid for it and i've still got it i need i definitely need to check it
[405.66] AndyRC: out though how it has changed the last time i checked it out there was a tiny thing and that
[411.26] Nigel: was fun yeah well tiny wup's grown a lot since there's a lot of more tiny wup tracks on there
[418.62] Nigel: and there's been a lot of work done on the front end and just on the sim itself first of all um
[424.54] Nigel: we've stuck to our guns we've always um tried to make sure that roto rush is as realistic as
[433.1] Nigel: possible and that's what we've always tried to do we've um we've stayed away from the game
[439.1] Nigel: gamey sort of uh viewing kept it as professional as possible um we worked closely with um jesse
[446.22] Nigel: perkins from tiny wup and uh there's lots of tiny wup tracks in there and they're being released
[451.1] Nigel: soon there's a training dome which are which is important because i know i'll link on to this is
[455.9] Nigel: some of the extras that you were mentioning that we do um and obviously there's that's that's the
[463.18] Nigel: main sim part of it um we're going to be releasing this week i believe x class into the sim the
[469.9] Nigel: official x class cool so we've um we've been working with noah ferman from x class in california
[477.02] Nigel: and uh we've been working on the flight characteristics uh the sound we've done real
[483.02] Nigel: sound sampling from x class drones so that's been released this week so if you're interested in
[487.26] Nigel: building a an x class and you haven't flown one yet it'll give you the opportunity to find out
[493.02] Nigel: what what it feels like flying x class because it is completely different it's so much especially
[498.3] Nigel: in the corners um but roger rush is it's a community it's not a city and this is what's
[506.54] Nigel: important this is where we fail to get the message across so when you pay that subscription or that
[511.02] Nigel: one off um yearly fee a large majority of that money goes back into the other projects that
[518.62] Nigel: we're doing um the main one of note is the roger rush academy and we give the same sim that you
[527.42] Nigel: guys have flown and tried to schools um all over the world not just in the uk and um schools that
[534.86] Nigel: sign up to the academy get all the software and the backup and the support for free absolutely
[540.54] Nigel: free there's no hidden costs and they get five licenses for for each school um and then working
[547.74] Nigel: with local race groups we try our best to put them in touch with their local race groups and
[553.34] Nigel: because we're also we work with all the race organizations around the world or most of them
[557.9] Nigel: anyway um so we link these skills up with local race groups and their race organizations so that
[563.82] Nigel: when these young people in the schools use the sim to learn to fly there's then support for local
[570.14] Nigel: race groups to teach them how to build the first drones and then they've got a a link then to go
[575.9] Nigel: from the school into the actual sport so what we're hoping to do is to help grow our sport and
[583.02] Nigel: our hobby by giving them one uh a means to learn to fly within the schools and then secondly to
[589.74] Nigel: build and then to start to fly within the the full race community so um and we've got a number of
[597.1] Nigel: success stories and the main one of note uh there's a a stem school in the u.s called mine drive
[604.78] Nigel: uh and they've linked in with their local multi-gp chapter and they've actually sought a number of
[610.14] Nigel: kids now to fly build and they're now these are now competitive pilots within the multi-gp
[617.42] Nigel: leagues in the in the u.s um and it works really well and we do all of this for free so the money
[625.42] Nigel: that you pay or the the normal user pays towards roto rush is helping to fund um this project and
[633.02] Nigel: grow uh the sport commercially um with with the uh local race groups that's great as well because
[640.94] AndyRC: we're we often talk about on the show the decline of interest in this hobby and that's doing the
[650.46] AndyRC: opposite that is giving exposure and and free access to have a go at this and and put it in
[658.3] AndyRC: people's heads that oh man this is something that i could do and and get good at so i i didn't i
[664.94] Nigel: didn't realize that the the other thing that we do as well the second part of where uh the money
[671.58] Nigel: goes to is if you go on roto rush you'll notice that we have all the official tracks we're very
[676.38] Nigel: proud of that of most of the main uh race organizations um you know fpv mexico the bdra
[686.06] Nigel: here in the uk kdra in korea um we're in india russia canada um god you know you know that is
[697.26] AndyRC: that is exactly why i subscribed to road to rush because having my youtube channel i thought you
[704.7] AndyRC: know what how how good am i against these top pilots so i went on to your uh i went on to
[713.58] AndyRC: the there's like a list of uh you know fastest times fastest pilots and there was there was
[722.78] AndyRC: bani uk at the time who who when i bought roto rush was at the top and i'm like right i'm gonna
[730.38] AndyRC: see how close i can get to bani uk and i was about 300 300 300 people down the rank and that's what i
[742.22] AndyRC: loved about uh roto rush and i also loved you touched on it there it it was um at the time i
[751.26] AndyRC: i think all the sims have um improved for sure but um at the time it was the most realistic
[759.34] AndyRC: not graphics intensive so you don't have to have like a crazy good computer but that doesn't matter
[767.26] AndyRC: because it was the most going through gates and stuff and going through real gates was uh the most
[775.98] AndyRC: accurate for me and that and that was what i thought was most important about roto rush
[781.82] Nigel: well we've always tried to keep it as realistic as possible um and we often um we have you know
[790.54] Nigel: real pilots trying it for us and whenever we put in new flight characteristics we actually we don't
[795.74] Nigel: do that we we get the pilots to tell us right yes he feels right he doesn't for example when
[801.34] Nigel: tying him up they put in a new new one of these these walks he does an extensive testing process
[808.3] Nigel: until we've got it absolutely right um but just going i just want to finish off on on the race
[814.38] Nigel: organizations and i'm glad you've used it because you get the chance to fly against pilots around
[818.62] Nigel: the world but as well as giving roto rush free to the schools every race organization that works
[824.7] Nigel: with us we put their tracks in the sim for free we don't charge them um we um allow them to put
[831.02] Nigel: their sponsors on the track we don't charge them for that we don't take any kickbacks whatsoever
[836.06] Nigel: so the only funding that comes into roto rush is from the user but that money is helping to
[842.86] Nigel: it's helping your uh race organization whichever one you're affiliated to whether you're in the uk
[848.62] Nigel: us career wherever it's helping that race organization to promote itself to grow to allow
[856.78] Nigel: it to bring in sponsorship so that they can carry on putting on competitions for the pilots and we
[862.86] Nigel: do all of that um basically for free um now we maybe we should have been advertising this and
[869.26] Nigel: telling the world better about what we do with the funds that come in um but now we're doing it now
[875.42] AndyRC: so through you guys so hopefully it's it's kind of tricky as well because you've got all of this
[881.26] AndyRC: competition from uh like freerock freerider lift off uh what what the loss of drug and then uh
[892.14] AndyRC: there's like another one i saw on uav future so that that's probably why you're struggling to
[898.7] AndyRC: to get the um the information out there but i i've done videos on roto rush
[903.82] AndyRC: i should do more videos on roto rush and i want to talk about the conversation that you and me had
[911.1] AndyRC: on the phone for 40 minutes that that you can't remember because we're both because of alcohol
[921.34] Curry: are you sure you weren't just hearing voices at the time andy
[926.46] AndyRC: let's put this to the test okay it wasn't called roto rush initially was it
[932.3] Nigel: what was it what was it called um initially it was fpv events um which was and uh it that was its
[941.74] Nigel: first incarnation and then um it was fpv events for a while uh and then we really we decided to
[947.74] Nigel: do a rebrand and and really bring uh bring it together um and that's when we we changed the
[954.62] Nigel: name to roto rush um and yeah uh i guess it was a while ago then if uh it wasn't roto rush then
[963.66] Nigel: when we were at that competition that was quite a while ago okay i've definitely slept since then
[970.38] AndyRC: i've definitely drunk a lot of coca-cola since then which uh excuse my mind it's just coca-cola
[977.66] AndyRC: for anyone very small glance for coca-cola it looks a bit pale for coca-cola doesn't it but
[985.26] AndyRC: it's alders own version you know that's the that's the reason why okay so um the conversation that
[995.98] AndyRC: we had um it lasted for we it lasts probably about 40 minutes and um well it it sounds like
[1008.14] AndyRC: roto rush didn't go in the direction that it did when we were talking about it to give some context
[1015.82] AndyRC: i was driving on the way to my ex-girlfriend's house boo yeah boot her although she's vegan
[1024.7] AndyRC: tony so yeah i was in the car and i stopped the car because i i thought man this this you know
[1037.02] AndyRC: this is important and uh at the time it it was like um don't mention that it's changing to roto
[1046.86] AndyRC: rush and the conversation that the conversation that we had was regarding how uh sims were be were
[1057.34] AndyRC: were going to be used in that um i think the idea that you talked about was that um there's
[1067.98] AndyRC: there's a lot of these races that go on but a lot because they're all over the world and and people
[1075.58] AndyRC: are busy they they can't uh attend races and i think your idea was to turn roto rush into a
[1084.7] AndyRC: a complete sort of online series where um it was like real racing except through the sim so so
[1095.5] Nigel: well we've actually done that we actually have done that um that i guess is the third element of
[1101.26] Nigel: roto rush um so the e-sports i think is the word that we're looking for um side of roto rush is
[1109.5] Nigel: there has been a lot of work on that um and again this is something that people don't really know
[1114.54] Nigel: about um and um what we've developed when i say we raised on all of the work he's the genius behind
[1123.5] Nigel: uh raised very quiet there in the background but raised the genius behind roto rush and i'm not
[1129.58] AndyRC: aware of of of race so is is ray the i think you should say hello yeah i'm here yeah it's always
[1136.7] Curry: there you can touch him just the word raise on the screen that's the way i can see that but is ray
[1142.62] AndyRC: i i've always spoken to nigel is ray the coder the builder is the inventor be the genius and
[1152.7] Jack: the the way i would describe him he's the wizard behind the curtain
[1156.46] Nigel: yes does that make me does that make me directly i have got some red shoes
[1164.06] Nigel: we don't believe you we want to see them um so the e-sports side of it we've got a a
[1173.26] Nigel: separate control system which allows um those that are given access to it to set up a
[1181.42] Nigel: live online competition and it can set how many laps it is it's got a start grid it's got a pit
[1188.06] Nigel: lane exactly the same as any other competition and you can run live online competitions exactly the
[1194.14] Nigel: same as a real race and uh everything we talked about we have actually done and this is being
[1201.82] Nigel: used by race organizations now um in australia fpvr use it a lot and they've been running online
[1208.46] Nigel: competitions um ddc in spain and they've been running online competitions as well
[1216.22] Nigel: they've run several successful leads and they're doing a big one this year um but we offer this
[1222.3] Nigel: system to every race organization um that's a member of roto rush and if they wish to put on
[1229.5] Nigel: live competitions then they can and a number of them have as well and maybe you you may not have
[1236.3] Nigel: seen them online um it's it's down to them to promote that but we again give them this
[1241.9] Nigel: tool to use for free um tinywup jesse perkins i'm steve neutron uh use the same system and they
[1251.26] Nigel: they're running uh live events tinywup events online events uh regularly and they've got a
[1256.86] Nigel: league running at the moment um and they live stream that um the whole system is live streamable
[1263.1] Nigel: with cameras around the track that you can switch to um and those that use it have are able to
[1269.5] Nigel: switch between cameras from on board and all and cameras that automatically track the drones um in
[1275.82] Nigel: line of sight view around the track so yeah all of these features i guess um your general user
[1282.78] AndyRC: might not know about um but yeah i guess it's just the the the marketing side of actually um
[1290.94] AndyRC: you know getting this out there you know with maybe because every everything um multi-rotor
[1298.7] AndyRC: wise it is online and i i mean you know i i didn't know about it i i've spoken to you but i didn't
[1305.82] AndyRC: know that actually this had been implemented so i guess um it's about um you know um making making
[1316.14] AndyRC: it aware that when these events are happening and and trying to trying to promote it and share it
[1322.94] Tony: as much as possible and stuff but we should have been it sounds like ldo could um we could
[1329.1] Tony: race our patreons and have a patreons night of racing and we don't we we i'm i'm sure
[1339.58] Nigel: ray would be happy to let you guys um um have a um access to the control system and set your own
[1346.94] Nigel: live online event up and uh and you can live stream it there are a lot of fun there are a
[1352.06] Nigel: lot of fun you can invite people to come in and race with you we've actually done that with
[1356.38] AndyRC: velocid drone i think the reason why um um rote we didn't do it with rotor rush is that the prize
[1365.1] AndyRC: is slightly higher than the than the rest of them so i think that is the only reason but what
[1371.82] AndyRC: you're saying is the price is higher because it's actually funding other things yeah yes things um
[1379.58] AndyRC: so uh every everybody i've got rote rush so if all of you guys now can go and and subscribe to
[1388.94] AndyRC: rush and then we'll we'll organize an online race or um on the website there is actually a free
[1396.3] Nigel: trial if anybody's worried whether it'll run on their system or they just want to try it and say

[1423.1] AndyRC: a lot of fun the live events are a lot of fun so plan or or perhaps we could set up some sort of

[1444.14] Curry: it a separate product you you've got to put the vr goggles on and basically so we have got a separate

[1456.06] Nigel: because um um i'm very proud of it because i'm very proud of ray and i think ray's ray's one of
[1461.5] Nigel: the most modest guys i've ever met in my entire life because the stuff that he's done on rotary
[1468.3] Nigel: she's absolutely incredible and you guys tried that um it's it's basically a commercial version
[1474.54] Nigel: if you like of rotarush and it through using vr um you're able to fly line of sight and it's as
[1484.54] Nigel: if you stood in the field and you're flying line of sight and it also has the detached camera so
[1490.54] Nigel: the idea is if you've got a dji phantom that kind of drone you can learn to line of sight fly and
[1497.66] Nigel: and control your camera get your right camera angles we've got a number of scenarios within
[1502.62] Nigel: that that allow you to um if you're a commercial pilot and uh maybe doing um building surveys uh
[1511.26] AndyRC: etc you can use it for that is that what that big blow up dome thing was or am i completely
[1519.34] AndyRC: i'm sorry i i won't say what jack called that he called it he called it a blow up
[1525.1] Curry: no i think that's the entrance to that did look like a certain lady but just to give some context
[1534.94] Curry: to to uh that sort of commercial thing a friend of mine was just telling me a couple of weeks ago
[1540.7] Curry: he did the commercial course it used to be called the beaner i can't remember what they call it now
[1544.78] Curry: and he's sort of an experienced pilot coming into this and the sort of the flight test for him was
[1549.18] Curry: easy and despite like days of doing all this sort of flight manual and stuff like that a lot of the
[1555.66] Curry: guys that were coming into it were very new to it and could barely get around the course so having
[1560.7] Curry: something because the one i flew was inspection of uh the big wind turbines which that's right
[1566.78] Curry: and i could use the vehicles to like look around for my line of sight and i had sort of a sort of
[1571.18] Curry: visor thing that gives me through the phantom and i thought that was a really good thing because you
[1575.18] Curry: were talking about some interesting scenarios there like the shark spotting in australia or
[1580.06] Curry: dropping life uh things to to swimmers i wouldn't i wouldn't want that being done by someone who
[1586.22] Nigel: hasn't got the experience doing it it's like that actual scenario is being used by um in in
[1596.14] Nigel: australia by lifeguards who have been taught to use drones and they're using that simulate our
[1601.82] Nigel: simulator to practice finding swimmers in in difficulty and and aiming the using the camera
[1608.54] Nigel: so that they can aim the flotation aid and drop it in the right place and actually spot sharks you
[1613.34] Nigel: know so these are real these it's being reused for real and i and i'm speaking to a lot of the
[1619.34] Nigel: there was a lot of academies there that teach commercial drone pilots and they were very
[1623.98] Nigel: interested in it now they they were saying the same as you that they're getting a lot of people
[1628.3] Nigel: coming along and although they can they may be even commercial pilots have private pilot licenses
[1633.9] Nigel: etc and they know they they know they practice the theory side of it but when it comes to actually
[1641.58] Nigel: flying a drone line aside they've got very little experience could barely fly at all um and so yeah
[1647.98] Nigel: i think there needs to be a tool where people can practice without feeling of crashing something
[1653.5] AndyRC: that's so expensive as well are they that so just to give some context sadly i didn't get to try out
[1659.98] AndyRC: any of the vr stuff but um what do you need uh i'm you said it's not released yet right
[1669.26] AndyRC: but when you but but if you've got some vr goggles you've got a bit of software that you can learn
[1676.06] AndyRC: how to fly line of sight i've got some i got an oculus rift here that's what we were using at the
[1681.74] AndyRC: show yeah um well uh you've got my email address so if you fancy it would be a good time for me to

[1698.38] Ray: so um yeah um one thing i'll just jump in there and say is that um since the very first uk drone
[1705.18] Ray: show 2015 uh road to rush or fpv event as it was then has always supported uh the oculus rift so
[1712.86] Ray: if you've got road to rush today you can actually fly um in the oculus vr how does that work though
[1720.3] AndyRC: being because you're on board so what you could you can look around on the copter um there's a
[1727.26] Curry: visor thing that so you've got your line of sight view and you've got there's been a couple of
[1732.14] Curry: classes hasn't there where they've got this single visor so you can especially do line of
[1736.14] Ray: sight and fpv at the same time yeah there's two things here though in road to rush uh you can set
[1742.7] Ray: up your view up so you are as if you're on the front of the uh the quadcopter um and for most
[1747.26] Ray: people that's absolutely amazing for about a minute uh but because it's so immersive and your body's
[1752.94] Ray: telling you no i'm not moving but your eyes are saying yes i am most people can only handle that
[1758.54] Ray: for about a minute um the difference uh with the commercial is that it's all line of sight
[1763.98] Ray: so when you're commercially flying you're actually watching your helicopter and looking at a little
[1767.66] Ray: screen separate to it so that works really well so when you when you say commercial you're talking
[1772.94] AndyRC: about selling it to people who are uh flying drones for a hobby for surviving and stuff
[1783.58] Nigel: yeah yeah exactly so that's or even your dgi um fan you know he wants to do some filming
[1789.74] Nigel: and they want to be able to learn to um angle the drone and then control the camera because
[1795.02] Nigel: if you think about it they're actually doing two things at once they're almost fpv and when
[1799.1] Nigel: they're looking into that camera but at the same time flying line of sight it's a lot to get your
[1803.74] Nigel: head around and i think you know there's there's not been a tool out there where you can practice

[1935.9] Ray: the later software from um oculus only only works for the latest kit well what i find really
[1942.14] Nigel: interesting is when you do um you know the standard roto rush the commercial um we're
[1948.38] Nigel: thinking of the name roto pilot i think it'll be called um to differentiate it from roto rush
[1953.74] Nigel: because roto rush is a racing sim and it's different but when you but that's actually
[1959.34] Nigel: vr capable and it always has been and nobody actually tries it but if you put your oculus
[1964.7] Nigel: rift on an fpv race in full vr um it's quite cool um i love it i don't feel sick but some
[1973.9] Nigel: people start to feel sick after a while and because it's just too much but for me um i
[1979.5] Nigel: actually love it i must be one of those weird people that doesn't get seasick well it's all
[1983.74] AndyRC: to do with refresh rates from what i i've discovered
[1994.46] AndyRC: because i i get because we were chatting about that at bandai nanko yeah i i get motion sickness
[2000.94] AndyRC: so if i'm in a car yeah i can't look at a phone uh for any more than like 30 seconds without

[2045.74] Curry: about it it's something to do with the field of view angles as well for me as well as the refresh
[2050.14] AndyRC: rate it's not the frame rate yet it's the refresh rate exactly so i think the oculus rift works at
[2058.38] AndyRC: 90 hertz and it's all it's all to do with um your your eyes seeing things that your body isn't
[2066.7] AndyRC: feeling and i i believe that the higher the refresh rate um the the less motion sickness
[2074.06] AndyRC: you've got so i when i use my oculus there's a there's a fantastic um app where you can be in
[2081.82] AndyRC: the space station and i can be in that light for hours and hours and not feel sick but are you sure

[2097.74] AndyRC: you're talking about tony i only need to be in for about 30 seconds so um but the international space
[2108.7] AndyRC: station i can be but but um yeah the the the resolution is low because um at the moment
[2118.3] AndyRC: because the in order to do that the the refresh rate has to be high to have to have like 4k
[2128.14] AndyRC: 90 uh hertz at the moment i guess would be very expensive and the hive have just released their

[2429.74] Nigel: a few academies around the world and we wanted a way for them to talk to each other and then we
[2435.66] Nigel: thought well wouldn't it be good if the race organizations could talk to each other and then
[2439.98] Nigel: wouldn't it be good if the pilots could communicate as well so um as a minute everybody either uses
[2445.1] Nigel: facebook and unless you're in that facebook group or your part you know you're linked with friends
[2449.58] Nigel: it's very hard to find information so we're going to be launching very soon what we've called the
[2455.74] Nigel: community hope it's not a very exciting name but it does very it does describe what what it is
[2462.22] Nigel: really well so anybody who's a member of roto rush whether that's an academy a race organization
[2469.02] Nigel: um a group um a team because there's teams as well um you know there's quite a few teams
[2474.86] Nigel: racing in roto rush as well and they'll be able to see other academies other race organizations
[2480.62] Nigel: and link with each other and the idea being that the um through our system they'll be able to
[2487.1] Nigel: an academy will be able to find their local race organization and ask for help or show them what
[2492.86] Nigel: they're doing and get that link race organizations were able to find other race organizations or
[2497.74] Nigel: groups um they'll be able to find academies etc so basically it's all of the different people that
[2504.38] Nigel: use roto rush and it's giving them a means to communicate with each other built into that is a
[2510.62] Nigel: newsletter that's automated and people can tell their stories and what what events they've got
[2515.98] Nigel: going on and the great stuff that they're doing and it automatically sends it out to everybody
[2520.06] Nigel: and yeah it's uh it's a really great tool that that me and ray have developed and raised on all
[2526.54] Nigel: the hardware and coding and i just tell them what it should look like um and uh yeah and we're
[2533.58] Nigel: about to launch it's called community hub so um i'm hoping that uh it will make a difference

[2606.22] AndyRC: the whole multirotor thing it's funny actually because um the the line of sight non-fpv stuff
[2616.06] AndyRC: is non-existent on youtube but the mo the multirotor stuff it's all about youtube and i think that's
[2623.74] AndyRC: because it's very uh video orientated gopros dvr and stuff like that so my my advice would be uh
[2634.22] AndyRC: to maybe try and promote it through there as well as facebook because facebook has got huge um
[2644.06] AndyRC: communities and and stuff i've i'd be willing to to do stuff on it wayne i've i've just volunteered
[2652.22] AndyRC: you to do stuff to do stuff on it as well i guess the message we're trying to get across is there's
[2658.7] Nigel: a lot of tools on rotorush and there's a lot of stuff in rotorush that is is there for people to
[2663.66] Nigel: use you know um there are a lot of race groups out there that could have their own track within
[2668.62] Nigel: rotorush and use it for promoting themselves and um 99.9 percent of the time it's completely free
[2677.26] Nigel: and we do this to help the community and we've not been very good at communicating that um i mean
[2684.06] Nigel: everybody's seen that the quality of the maps and everything in rotorush now realistically are and
[2689.1] Nigel: you know even some of the smaller groups have got you know um you know there's we've been approached
[2696.46] Nigel: by um we're going to be doing a track for delta hawks and and groups like that you all know these
[2701.74] Nigel: guys you know and and we're happy to put those tracks in in rotorush so so that you can promote
[2707.34] Nigel: your own track you know and we want to build the community and wait so you need to you know we want
[2712.54] Nigel: people to get in touch with us and and and start using the tools that that race felt such a long
[2719.74] Nigel: time perfecting i guess i guess there's been a little bit of we've not wanted to push it too

[2829.74] Nigel: still a subscription i suppose um but when you pay that it's it's what you're joining a community

[2841.82] Nigel: that's part of you know and if you just want to use the sim now and again and and it's just for
[2847.9] Nigel: that and you're not interested in these other groups then roberos probably isn't the choice
[2852.46] Nigel: for you and there are other sims out there and they're very good sims we're not you know
[2856.54] Nigel: velocitrone is an excellent sim and so is liftoff um but it's it if you want to
[2864.62] Nigel: know that some of that money when you're whether you're using it or not is helping to fund these
[2869.82] Nigel: other projects um and you know that then maybe maybe the appeal for roberos is is is more than
[2879.26] Nigel: you thought it was it's our job to show you where that money's going and that's what we haven't

[2953.18] Nigel: to play games that are all over facebook and you think it's free and before you know it you've
[2958.14] Nigel: spent 30 40 pounds in a month just trying to keep up with everybody so just to buy the latest skin
[2963.66] Nigel: everything else um when you pay that subscription every update every new track you get there's never
[2969.66] Nigel: any hidden costs with rolerush so we don't want to go down the free to play with micro
[2975.02] Nigel: purchase for that reason and we can really afford to go down the one-off payment route because we
[2982.54] Nigel: want to carry on funding these great projects that we're doing so that's the answer to it

[3094.62] Ray: what's the deal are you considered steam yeah we have considered steam obviously that's the whole
[3102.3] Ray: ecosystem in itself uh one thing you need to know about roerush is you download the sim you've got
[3108.38] Ray: that software on your pc but we our whole infrastructure our race control um a lot of the
[3116.38] Ray: community hub that Nigel has just been talking about is actually out there on the global cloud
[3122.46] Ray: so for instance if you wanted to run a race event uh all your pilots would have roerush
[3128.94] Ray: on their computer but you would be logging into our cloud system so i wouldn't rule it out but
[3134.94] Ray: we wanted to have specifically a very pro race control system and that's what's sitting in the
[3143.26] Ray: cloud right now it enables us to do a lot more to integrate the races the community and everything
[3150.22] Ray: else by having our own infrastructure i mean it's not our own it runs on the uh the google
[3155.26] AndyRC: world yeah i i do like how when you uh open it and if there's an update you click it and it updates
[3163.5] AndyRC: which is very similar to steam it it's just that steam is it has has become sort of like the

[3189.34] AndyRC: and every time i will say that roerush is more realistic it doesn't have the graphics but it's

[3204.54] AndyRC: you you probably haven't tried roer to rush but if you try roer to rush compare it to lift-off
[3210.62] AndyRC: and when you go through a gate it's it's exactly the same as going through an actual although we

[3221.58] AndyRC: accurate sim yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah that's true but roer to rush is even better try it

[3238.38] Curry: casual users or like begrudgingly have to use a sim when it's raining perhaps if there's more to

[3422.7] Nigel: the wider hobby um to further encourage them to to get out there and fly um you know in clubs and

[3504.38] AndyRC: copters need to get bigger i received a seven inch freestyle model and i thought oh this is
[3515.42] AndyRC: this is just nothing and the the views on it exploded and people want bigger quads i think
[3524.62] AndyRC: it's just because of the spectacle now uh when we were at the uk drone show it it was a great
[3532.3] AndyRC: show to watch the racing but all you could see was just a single led flying around and
[3539.82] Nigel: obviously x-class changes that it does and i think um when i was in uh in in south korea
[3549.74] Nigel: in november for the um um for the dsi event for the international drone racing competition
[3557.34] Nigel: um we had meetings all the race organizers and members of dsi had meetings and one of the big
[3562.94] Nigel: questions is how do we make this more a spectator sport and and i guess everybody's coming to the
[3569.9] Nigel: conclusions that the drones need to be bigger so that people can see them um an x-class to some
[3575.18] Nigel: degree uh to you know answers those questions i think we're going to need canopies on there
[3580.86] Nigel: you know if the sports going to really grow become professional you're going to need space for
[3585.58] Nigel: um sponsors to be able to you know be on the vehicles just like any other sport um but i
[3591.5] Nigel: think x-class is really interesting and it's growing very quickly in the u.s it's becoming
[3595.98] Nigel: much much bigger and every a lot of people seem to be experimenting with building their x-class
[3601.1] Nigel: style drones and uh i've not gone down that route yet i'm still catching up with uh with
[3606.22] Nigel: the current trend i've just bought a frame from menace and some new motors and trying to bring
[3610.38] Nigel: myself up to date with with that and uh but i'll certainly be giving x-class to go i think in the
[3616.22] Nigel: next year um yeah i just wanted to say just because we've talked about the um uk drone show
[3624.22] Nigel: i just want to mention how important that event was i think that event was this this just this
[3629.1] Nigel: past weekend because for the first time that was a true international event in the uk and we you
[3637.02] Nigel: know i go to events all over the country and it's it's nearly always the same pilots you
[3642.22] Nigel: know the uk you know you get your banner uk and you carry kent and brett colis and all of these
[3647.5] Nigel: pilots and we all know how good they are but it's it it's very rare in the uk to see them see the
[3654.94] Nigel: uk pilots actually up against the best in the world and min chan kim is the best pilot in the
[3659.26] Nigel: world at the moment without any shadow of a doubt and to see see min chan kim and alex van over
[3665.74] Nigel: you know and sushan park there as well as a lot of pilots from europe as well you had the dutch
[3671.58] Nigel: champion and leo leo was there as well you know it's incredible and i think it was a bit of a wake
[3678.94] Nigel: up call for the uk scene who have been a little bit isolated and feeling that they're doing really
[3684.62] Nigel: good to see the quality of international competition and international pilots and i think maybe now
[3690.3] Nigel: we'll see some uk pilots up in their game a bit i think it was really important i think it's about
[3695.82] Nigel: time that there is there is you know an international element in the uk and a fair play to ollie for
[3704.86] Nigel: putting that event on and making sure those international pilots attended i think it was
[3709.98] Ray: really important just just on that i should really mention the platinum cup last year because obviously
[3716.38] Ray: that wasn't true racing but as far as esports go that was the first that's roach brush you know
[3723.42] Ray: had a world competition and we put all those pilots in perhaps you like to and we're talking
[3728.06] Nigel: about doing one this coming year as well that was the first drone race in esports ever in the world
[3733.42] Nigel: and again we could have done a better job of advertising it but we had we ran qualifiers all
[3739.98] Nigel: around the world and we had a pilot from mexico india australia us nelson came over from us
[3748.22] Nigel: um one from austria and obviously we had a pilot from the uk and uh we flew them all over to the
[3755.42] Nigel: uk and to the which was the event the gaming event that we we helped the finals are
[3763.26] Nigel: dsl yeah in in london and we were on esl's live stage in fact the roter rush finals was
[3771.42] Nigel: just before the uk finals for the counter strike which was pretty cool um yeah and that was the
[3778.3] Nigel: first ever esport competition for drone racing that was a that was a straight for weekend
[3787.1] AndyRC: now these guys tell me that this year's uk drone show was a disappointment and for me it wasn't
[3795.1] AndyRC: because i couldn't go five minutes without chatting to somebody who was a subscriber
[3801.5] AndyRC: and wanted to take a selfie and and stuff like that and by the way if you if like i put a message
[3809.82] AndyRC: out there because i like had so many selfies if if you guys um had a selfie with me then uh put
[3818.14] AndyRC: it on facebook put on instagram tag me in it um but um yeah the the the general sort of consensus
[3827.34] AndyRC: was that it wasn't as popular as two years ago and i find that sad but i do think two years ago
[3835.34] AndyRC: there was a hype in drones and now it's sort of um leveled off and um i think that's probably
[3844.06] Tony: what it was i mean it was it felt it felt bigger a couple of years ago there was more stands more
[3849.5] Tony: people to me tracking everything was really really good though to me i was gutted because
[3856.54] AndyRC: i didn't get to speak to bani uh who like i've always been a fan of and and kalsey and gary
[3866.3] AndyRC: and uh for me though what i i didn't see all the stalls and and stuff like that but um maybe that
[3874.54] Nigel: that's just my situation but um if you put it in context i mean to be fair this is the
[3882.22] Nigel: was it the fourth or fifth uk drone show and there has been a dip tony's absolutely right
[3888.3] Nigel: and i think that's because there's not as much media hype around it anymore i mean it was a big
[3892.06] Nigel: thing when pani were you know one in japan all the news wanted him and everything else but
[3897.18] Nigel: so it's it's it's leveled off a bit but the fact that olivre is you know still able to put on the
[3903.98] Nigel: uk drone show despite the you know the the dipping excitement over drones is a good thing and and i
[3911.26] Nigel: hope it continues because it shows like that that give give you know the smaller independence like
[3917.66] Nigel: make it build it and and menace and stuff for a chance to show off what they're doing and and and
[3923.1] Nigel: this thing you know i think it's an important show it might have not been as exciting as some
[3928.06] Nigel: people would have liked but the fact that it was even there is a is a is a is a i think it's a
[3935.9] Nigel: it shows that the the hobby's not going anywhere the sport's not going anywhere it's going to
[3939.98] Nigel: continue to grow and and it's it's a big risk for for olivre to put on an event like that because
[3946.7] Nigel: you you have to put that money up beforehand i mean it's really expensive to put on an event
[3952.46] Nigel: there and the fact that he's took that risk year after year um i think he's a great thing
[3958.38] Nigel: you can tell a big fan of olivre's um but um yeah because he works really hard and he he doesn't get
[3964.86] Nigel: a lot of credit for it and i think he deserves a lot of credit because he i think it was a great
[3970.54] AndyRC: and and it's only going to get better and bigger i'm not i'm not aware of olivre actually um i
[3976.38] AndyRC: thought um i i i i i met simon newton and on the kitchen table i thought he had a lot to do with it
[3985.1] Nigel: is it is that not the case no the the event is is olivre all brilliant so he gets a lot of help
[3992.06] Nigel: from a lot of people um you know i mean he reached out to the guys at bdra um and uh you
[4000.14] Nigel: know ben who i think he's probably the best race director in the uk now without any doubt um he
[4007.02] Nigel: came down with the whole kit and the track and put that up and uh and he asked elia to do the
[4012.54] Nigel: live stream and you know and everybody chips in but they only do that because um olivre just proved
[4018.46] Nigel: in the past that that you know he's a great person to work with and he he puts on a good show and he
[4023.66] Nigel: does his very best he's olivre behind the scenes has been supporting the the sport and the hobby
[4029.98] Nigel: in this country for many years but he again he doesn't shout about it he just gets on and does it
[4034.94] AndyRC: yeah i think one thing as well that was a bit of a struggle because i i was trying to um
[4042.06] AndyRC: film some of the event is when the racing was going on they had screens up but they they were
[4050.22] AndyRC: like seven frames per second and i think i think that needs to be improved obviously it was indoors
[4058.38] AndyRC: and there's a lot of processing going on but i think uh that needs to be improved for it to be
[4065.26] Nigel: more of a spectator sport as well there's a lot of improvement if you watch if you watch the idsc
[4071.74] Nigel: competition that was in south korea in november they did a lot of things there that have answered
[4077.74] Nigel: a lot of the questions on spectator the best thing if anyone's i don't know if anyone's seen any of
[4082.3] Nigel: the video from the from that event but they had a glass screen in front of the pilot so the pilot
[4087.58] Nigel: sat on a podium and there was this glass screen impregnated with leds and as the pilots walked
[4094.62] Nigel: out these leds showed they were guess i guess it's sort of like a tv if you like a very low
[4099.42] Nigel: resolution tv but they showed the uh national flag of each pilot as he walked out and then um
[4106.7] Nigel: underneath the pilot then it showed the cover of what drone they were flying so there was no doubt
[4112.54] Nigel: when you were watching that racing who was who because even though the leds in at the nec this
[4117.5] Nigel: weekend were easy to see and it was easy to follow the racing it was still difficult to decide who
[4122.94] Nigel: was who and unless you remembered from the big start of the race that mid chan came out the
[4128.22] Nigel: rally red leds for example and finally after blue you could quite easily lose the action whereas in
[4135.5] Nigel: korea you looked over at the pilot so you could clearly see through this glass screen and you
[4139.9] Nigel: could see which color leds who were flying what country they were from what race team they flew
[4144.62] Nigel: far because it was all displayed on this this screen which was amazing and i recommend you
[4151.5] Nigel: look it's it was an incredible event we're slightly over time so tony do you want to do
