[166.43] Curry: to the field we had to go through that whole set of trees down a sort of thin lane and then we had
[171.71] Curry: to hop over a stream to get to it and all those trees have gone through right now they put up a
[177.95] Curry: fence but i found out a way to get in there if i just pretended i didn't go in that way and wondered
[183.79] Curry: through the woods and jumped over a different stream then i could get into a field that way
[188.19] Curry: and very quickly fly two batteries and run away again before they spotted me
[193.47] NJ: not ideal do you think they're are they trying to uh trying to keep you out i mean were your
[200.19] NJ: suspicions raised when there was a picture of a cat with an international cross sign through it
[204.43] Curry: was was was that a thing i'm not sure if they're after me directly but they certainly don't seem to
[210.03] Curry: be wanting any interesting you know there was fences all along but there was like no signs on
[215.31] Curry: it you'd expect it to say like property of or no entry or whatever so maybe maybe they're getting
[220.75] Curry: a bit overzealous and just like we'll stick this up see if it puts people off you don't think they're
[224.83] NJ: going to move because the last time i saw that near one of my local fields a few weeks later
[228.51] NJ: they moved livestock in so could it be that no there's there's planning application in for new
[234.67] Curry: homes being built there so that that's what it's going to be but they haven't they've they've gone
[240.99] Curry: in i've seen people around for months like the first thing they did was bizarre they put up
[246.51] Curry: reptile fences in order to catch all the lizard snakes and other creepy crawlies to catch them
[253.63] Curry: all and move them because i think what happened is they said planning applications in like loads
[258.27] Curry: of people complain because of course people want new houses and stuff or places affordable living
[264.03] Curry: but nobody actually wants new houses going up near them so when the planning application went in
[269.23] Curry: everybody complained and one of the things they cited was this is natural habitat for snakes and
[275.71] Curry: lizards i think it's one of the the country's uh leading areas where they actually find addis
[281.39] Curry: are only venomous snake so they responded by putting up these these black plastic fences
[288.35] Curry: everywhere and apparently because i talked to one of these volunteers that was connecting them
[292.51] Curry: they they create like heat so the reptiles go and sort of sit near them and then people come along
[298.19] Curry: with a bucket every day and chat reptiles in and move them to a safe space and after this for
[303.87] Curry: several months it's like yep now we can carry on a build so they've been digging holes and and
[308.43] NJ: cutting down more trees and doing a lot but basically nothing can stop them they that's
[313.15] Curry: that's just building isn't it no no i read the planning application and it literally says
[318.51] Curry: there have been this many complaints and this many causes of concern about this planning
[324.11] Curry: planning was passed because it's like this is gonna this is millions of millions and millions
[329.39] Tony: of pounds this is worth to people where are you gonna fly now have you found anywhere
[334.43] Curry: um there's a couple of spots i could use but they're all like 40 minutes in the car and where
[341.47] Curry: i am there i can it's 10 minute walk so it's really convenient so there's a there's a couple
[346.43] Curry: of places that are protected in the woods so i can still do stuff around the trees but it's not
[351.79] Curry: like a big open space so i'm a bit screwed there so i'm gonna go off and and have a bit
[356.51] Curry: more of a look places and see what i can find basically because that's that's all you can do
[360.75] Frank: it's really annoying though isn't it because there's you know there's all those complaints
[364.35] Frank: against that planning application but it still goes through yeah there's money and big businesses
[370.27] Frank: involved that's it it goes through but any like one complaint about um you know hidden valley
[377.55] Frank: and and all of a sudden all that's a planning commitment issue and we can't we can't use that
[382.59] NJ: and injuries is gone isn't it because of walker literally 187 acres and three years of flying in
[390.99] NJ: the spot and i think anyone who subs my channel will know the spot i'm talking about because i
[394.43] NJ: used to fly there all my videos were produced there and just in that three years so much
[399.07] NJ: positivity towards um flying and and the people that were that interacted with us and then one
[406.75] NJ: guy says they scare my dog and that was it he was adamant to get us kicked off and in 187 acres
[411.87] NJ: they couldn't find us one little spot it was that was it wrote to the woodland trust he kicks up a
[417.23] NJ: huge fuss and they and we came back and there was no drone signs all over the place so yeah it's a
[423.39] Frank: terrible shame yeah we'll have to go back to flying over getwick whatever i do think this is
[431.31] Frank: the biggest problem now is is spaces to fly um well yeah it's like we the rules are don't
[437.95] Curry: fly near buildings and people and cars and that's completely reasonable but if you take away all the
[442.51] Curry: spaces we could fly it's not much left to do and there's all this effort being put into making
[448.99] Frank: lists of places that we're not allowed to fly all the effort with a dgi um updating all their um no
[456.43] Frank: fly zones there's all the um gnat stuff and the drone assist app and the no fly drones.co.uk
[463.87] Frank: and all that kind of thing it all says like you're not allowed to fly here um there was the issue
[469.47] Frank: with um was it Coventry you just flat you know no drones in Coventry exactly um and there's not
[478.75] Frank: i mean the only real resource of a list of places that you can fly is the BMFA club map
[486.67] Frank: you know and that's still you've got to be a member of that club and all that kind of thing
[491.63] Curry: and wear sandals and grab it and fly around in circles is that what i've got to do now

[561.07] Frank: the presence of my quads it sucks i was a member of the local club last year but it was all um old
[566.91] Frank: men flying other west wings and they frowned on me for flying fpv yeah we're just being pushed
[572.75] NJ: back on the ground really aren't we i mean the other thing i i kind of hey i i don't really
[577.63] NJ: like flying on my own i like having you know people there so you've got sponsors and you know
[584.11] NJ: you can watch out for people the places i've been flying now are literally farmer's fields out in
[588.59] NJ: the middle of nowhere just to be away from everyone and um i'm just wary of any interaction
[596.83] NJ: with people now because of how i think they view us that's also another problem is that there's
[601.87] NJ: been a psychological effect i don't know if anyone else i mean yeah big don't give a crap but for me
[608.35] NJ: it's um you know i i hate the fact that i'm worried now whereas i used to have people who
[614.67] NJ: look at it and are so excited for what we were doing we now i think they're looking at me with
[619.87] NJ: very judgmental eyes you know and that's just such a shame but it's it's i can see why it's

[656.99] NJ: i've not got the rtf kit but the only thing i'll say with kits is i've got a tiny hawk and it's a
[663.23] NJ: great little machine you do need to change the quad props um which are a separate purchase or
[667.95] NJ: it won't turtle um but it's a great quad but the only thing i'll say with kits is this
[672.99] NJ: if you're going to buy a kit you're going to have to start replacing stuff as you get more
[678.59] NJ: into the hobby um so there are certain things like your radio transmitter that that are worth
[683.87] NJ: investing in from the off it's the same i sort of say the same with goggles as well uh your goggles
[689.31] NJ: and you transmit if you buy right the first time even if it's a little more money that's it that's
[693.95] NJ: the only purchase you'll really need to make you know quads will come and go but you'll have the
[697.55] NJ: same transmitter you'll have the same goggles so with a kit it'll be going but you may waste a
[703.15] NJ: little bit of might we'll have to purchase upgrades later right by once yeah exactly yeah and also
[710.35] Jack: your goggles and transmitter don't end up in a tree or you know going into the ground yeah true
[719.31] Tony: well you'll see ended up in a tree once didn't you yeah yeah about that yeah i went out flying
[727.07] Jack: with me and tony who knows what might end up in a tree all we know is me up there yeah definitely
[734.43] NJ: out of history another good comment here um from uh batwoman fpv hello um says uh gigawatts and i
[744.67] NJ: were getting all the older guys at our club interested about fpv and quad copters today
[748.91] NJ: it was great seeing them actually engaging with us rather than giving us dirty looks
[752.99] NJ: so there's there's the other side of the coin i mean that's great you obviously got quite a
[756.67] NJ: progressive uh club there that's definitely not something i've seen with with some of the clubs
[762.27] Frank: i've been to yeah that's great you just need to find like a few of them to hand around the goggles
[769.87] Frank: that they're slightly open-minded and they'll back you i think you know especially the you know
[775.39] Frank: the guys having having been vaguely involved with a few clubs the guys that run all the admin stuff
[784.19] Frank: of the clubs generally have a very wide range of interest and aren't don't actually fly that much
[791.87] Frank: so they're quite happy to ride along and then we'll back you whenever there's an admin decision to be
[798.03] Frank: made that you know can affect you um that's that's my top tip for dealing with clubs um find them
[807.07] Frank: and give them your goggles give them a ride along
[812.43] NJ: yeah so there's two clubs near me and i did when i first moved to this county i i got in touch with
[817.87] NJ: them and primarily um even though i was sort of quite this probably about five years ago primarily
[825.79] NJ: i was looking to somewhere i could also fly my helicopters because i was doing that long before
[829.87] NJ: i started doing the quad stuff and both of them were like no absolutely no helicopters here so
[834.35] NJ: i didn't even pose the question about multi-rotors at that point because they said you know everyone
[839.31] NJ: that's learning helicopters just hovers over the runway and takes up a spot um which i always think
[844.27] NJ: silly because you could easily mow out a section off to the side which is what my old area club
[849.07] NJ: used to do for people that were hovering and i mean i'm not that person anyway i'm long past
[854.27] NJ: hovering but when people have these rules in their head that's it those those are the club rules you
[859.71] Frank: know it's all right because they'll run out of members at some point and then they'll need
[863.87] Frank: someone to fill those members in you know in a couple of years time why why do the memberships
[869.39] Tony: what what happens why does it run out because they die because they're so old people find other
[877.15] Curry: hobbies obviously that's it you know sitting in wooden boxes for long periods of time that sort
[883.47] Curry: of thing but there are for for everyone because i i've never been a member of club i've never
[888.75] Curry: been particularly interested um i i guess i found the right one yeah people and flying in circles
[896.51] Curry: but i i do hear from people about telling me about their club and their club is excellent
[901.79] Curry: because they all are into quads or they're all into fpv or they're more forward thinking and
[906.27] Curry: they're quite happy to mix it up with traditional and stuff and don't forget we we had um what's
[911.31] Curry: this face very northern guy from the bfma on and it was it was all about it is even more
[918.51] Curry: northern than andy it was all about if you want to form yourself a club you can do and of course
[923.15] Curry: these new clubs are coming in and they're doing like quad racing you said that was one of the
[927.47] Curry: most popular um affiliated club formations now is like people that want to race quads so they're
[932.67] Curry: out there it's just where they are and i do find that um somebody somebody was telling me who who
[940.43] Curry: i i used to fly with in my field that he tried to join a couple of clubs and like they didn't
[945.47] Curry: get back to him or they weren't interested in him or they said we're full right now so sometimes
[950.83] Curry: it's like some of them make it really difficult for some reason you'd think they'd want to grow
[955.07] Curry: their membership and get people into it but it's kind of like it's almost like a private members
[960.19] Curry: club where we're not accepting any more members right now because we're we're our little friends
[963.71] Curry: group and we don't want anybody else but the good ones are out there as well yeah and yeah the other
[968.83] Frank: thing is you can start your own group and like you say i mean that's that's sort of one that's
[974.99] Jack: just me in my garden we did think about doing that starting a let's thrown out bmfa club
[982.27] Frank: yeah for no reason other than to annoy them if they run that then please feel free

[1095.79] Frank: and uh kqrc and uh what are the other ones anyone anyone name any nominate any uh open and friendly
[1107.55] NJ: yeah i can certainly uh speak for bhbc because i'm one of the admins in that that group over
[1113.07] NJ: on facebook really friendly bunch and and we've grown it i think we've got a couple of hundred
[1118.67] NJ: members now or somewhere in that region so if you're within those counties the hearts beds bucks
[1124.43] NJ: cambridge chair uh territory then then do look us up and join and you know i'm certainly and
[1131.55] NJ: all the other guys are in there and very active so we we help out and suggest spots and we have
[1136.67] NJ: you know lots of uh support there so um these groups do exist and yeah facebook's definitely
[1142.11] NJ: a place where you can find local groups so um another one gigawatts has put in the chat is uh

[1255.55] NJ: um it's a really i found it quite an interesting subject and i've been talking an awful lot with
[1260.91] NJ: um nate who is mr shutterbug for anyone who follows him on youtube and he's the guy who
[1268.03] NJ: works quite closely with uh beta fpv um on there and sort of consults with them on their various
[1275.47] NJ: designs um and you know they produce some good stuff but i know their most recent release which
[1281.55] NJ: is the 85x hd there's been a few of them that have been catching on fire um and to be honest
[1290.59] NJ: with you i mean my strongest suspicion with that is probably down to the fact that i think it's
[1297.95] NJ: it's the tune that they provided with it is massively off the mark now this this mini
[1303.79] NJ: mini whoop does come with bl heli 32 now first thing i'll say is bl heli 32 is massively
[1311.39] NJ: over the top for a whoop i really don't think it's necessary to be running a d shot 1200 protocol
[1316.99] NJ: on something that small but it's nice to have the only issue is um when you go to the bl heli 32
[1324.19] NJ: protocol and things are operating as such so much faster you've got a much more increased chance of
[1329.95] NJ: smoking your esds um which people have been doing and the included tune on those uh as soon as i saw
[1336.75] NJ: it um and saw that it had a d term of 50 um i was pretty concerned and what i did was to actually
[1345.79] NJ: scrap the tune that was included um updated to the latest stable beta flight not beta flight four
[1351.95] NJ: just 3.5 point whatever it is is the latest and then go ahead and and tune that from scratch and
[1358.27] NJ: where i got to with the tune and i'll be doing a video on this later was considerably lowered and
[1363.71] NJ: it was locked and flew beautifully was considerably lower than the pits that they provided um i know
[1369.23] NJ: andy flew his on the included pits because that's you know that's a normal reviewer thing usually
[1374.35] NJ: if you're given stock pits you go out and you fly what was provided but those numbers in particular
[1379.23] NJ: concerned me so i retuned came up with much lower figure and it flew great and i pushed the life out
[1385.15] NJ: of it and i had a great flying experience and absolutely no smoke so i think that is possibly
[1391.15] NJ: one of the problems with them with that particular model um but i need to get in touch with beta fpv
[1397.07] NJ: and discuss it with them a little more um but yeah i'll be doing a video on that particular
[1402.11] Tony: they look really good flying inside but not so great footage outside i liked andy's stuff flying
[1408.19] NJ: inside yeah i flew it inside a couple of days ago an indoor me and i and really it's the 85x
[1415.79] NJ: is a bit too big for the indoor stuff it's you know it's a three claimed 4s uh micro quad uh
[1423.39] NJ: whoop i think 4s is just overkill uh if you pair it with the right power are they talking for that
[1429.47] NJ: 4s i don't know because i was flying it on 3s and 350 milliamp and getting three minutes and
[1436.35] NJ: all the power i needed to freestyle it so i think 4s is just just bonkers at that point like most of
[1442.35] Frank: the most of the battery pack it's going to be like the insulation isn't it yeah it's the other thing
[1449.23] NJ: as well with with going 4s is you're increasing the weight and when you combine weight with an
[1457.31] NJ: adding mass to these mini ducted whoops you start having this problem and there's an aerodynamic
[1462.99] NJ: issue in there as well with the ducts you have this yaw washout problem which lots of people have
[1468.03] NJ: have had which is where you're in a steep dive and as you flatten out it just the yaw just kicks out
[1473.87] NJ: and it's only a phenomenon that affects ducted podcopters so there's something aerodynamically
[1479.71] NJ: that's going on there but it's also a mass and an inertia thing um so keeping the battery as light
[1485.23] NJ: as possible and this is why one of the only quads that doesn't yaw washout is the mobula 7 and it's
[1491.63] NJ: why it's my favorite the power to weight on that thing is fantastic no yaw washouts and it flies
[1497.79] NJ: beautifully and it's the lightest of the bunch that's an interesting uh observation on the yaw
[1503.31] Curry: i think we were talking about this the other day weren't we the yaw washout because i was saying
[1507.39] Curry: i was getting it on a couple of quads and i i was wondering if it was the props out scenario because
[1513.87] Curry: i noticed the mobula wasn't doing it which is props inwards but of course the mobula is way
[1518.43] NJ: lighter than the other stuff i was flying i've managed to bring out um above a certain way if
[1524.43] NJ: you were to add heavier batteries to the mobula you would get it to do it absolutely it's all down
[1529.23] NJ: to the the power to weight and the amount of inertia that's in that thing um and it's something
[1534.19] NJ: to do with the way it's it's the lateral airflow over the quad because it's usually in dives it's
[1539.39] NJ: air coming this way not the the natural direction of of airflow intake on the props and there's
[1545.31] NJ: something about because obviously yaw is gripped through torque differential partly there is
[1551.15] NJ: partly a torque differential there's also that that torque has to be generated with grip from
[1555.71] NJ: the props and there's a way that when you're coming straight down into airflow like this
[1562.35] NJ: that the the the airflow is obviously spoiled by the front of the the ducting and it's spoiling
[1569.71] NJ: it to the point where the prop is not gripping the air enough to to translate that torque into
[1575.79] NJ: useful yaw and stabilize itself because that's when the yaw really is tested and put to work
[1582.75] NJ: is as you come out of that dive and obviously at the bottom of a dive as well that's when the quad
[1587.71] NJ: weighs the most because you've got this inertia going this way the quad at the bottom of a power
[1592.43] NJ: loop weighs more than it does in a hover or when it's you know that's uh that's how that that's
[1598.11] NJ: just how it works but all of these things together will create yaw wash outs you need to
[1602.59] NJ: keep that micro ducted quad as light as possible um and i think this is why my beta 85x on a 350
[1611.55] NJ: milliamp 3s didn't yaw wash out on me but i've seen lots of videos where they are and i honestly
[1617.39] NJ: think part of that is just running too heavy a battery well there's there's two things to to
[1623.63] Curry: touch on there and first off aside from the beta 85 of course the the tiny leader and the tiny
[1629.23] Curry: leader hd also had a lot of problems with failures if you look at their facebook page you would think
[1634.83] Curry: that everybody has failed and they seem to be using uh some sort of bad erc component they they
[1640.67] Curry: were getting burnouts on erc boards and motors letting go which i think they've upgraded now

[3451.28] Curry: fail this is um it's a really nice board it's an from frisco it's the omni next f7 board and it has
[3457.76] Curry: on board the uh r9 mm receiver uh and it had really nice pin layout nicely fought out it has
[3465.68] Curry: two iamus in it it's like oh this is going to be really cool to fly until i had to upgrade the
[3471.36] Curry: firmware on it and um oh god and then you need an inverter you have to be dongle and no it's worse
[3478.72] Curry: than that if it would be great what is with freesky man and updating stuff here's what you had to do
[3485.76] Curry: you have to take this plastic thing off the top and then you have to get the little r9 mm which
[3492.24] Curry: is really delicately placed on this ribbon cable and then you have to solder three connection points
[3497.76] Curry: to that little thing um and then you have to connect that to the back of your tyrannis and
[3502.24] Curry: upgrade the firmware now first they said when i got it upgrade to the latest firmware so i did
[3507.2] Curry: using the r9 mm firmware um and i plugged it into usb and it didn't power on and i thought oh i need
[3513.28] Curry: power so i put power through the ec using the right pins and that powered up the receiver and
[3518.56] Curry: i found the receiver and that was all okay and i plugged it back in usb and nothing happened
[3523.44] Curry: so i had to then call freesky and say oh i think it's broken i just plugged it into power and it's
[3530.0] Curry: wrong and then they said oh you've just probably put the wrong firmware on it
[3534.32] Curry: you have to use the specific one for the board which wasn't available when they said update the
[3538.64] Curry: latest firmware it wasn't so i downloaded that and it only works on f port so i thought okay
[3544.16] Curry: maybe there's some weird wiring thing in there so i i had i've obviously unsolded all the bits from
[3548.8] Curry: it to fit it back in so now take it all out again i soldered all my three connections my
[3553.2] Curry: third connection to the s port just a little this this is how it looked this is my real-time
[3559.12] Curry: soldering of that wire that was enough to take the solder pad off which is like oh that's that's
[3565.6] Curry: broken now what did i do i had to talk to freesky again already embarrassed at this day saying hey
[3570.16] Curry: i just broke something else uh anything i could do they said yeah soldered it to this corner of
[3575.36] Curry: these two resistors on there which i did very delicately and i thought i had a good connection
[3580.8] Curry: plugged it back into the tyrannis to try and flash it did not work didn't get a response from it i
[3585.36] Curry: thought oh let's try a little bit more solder on there let's try a better connection splurge goes
[3590.16] Curry: the solder oh no so trying to take that off and like i'm sure there were some resistors there
[3595.52] Curry: so but yeah basically i buggered the r9mm for sure but i was like i'm still suspicious that
[3602.48] Curry: this board isn't working so i removed the r9mm and completely plugged it in using the power
[3607.28] Curry: plugged it in using usb it's dead at that point i threw it against the wall and got slightly fed
[3612.16] Curry: up with it it feels great after all this freesky then said oh yeah we've been talking to the
[3618.8] Curry: engineers about this as it sounds like you had some trouble and oscar got one of these and oscar's
[3625.04] Curry: better at this stuff than me and he managed to damage the ribbon cable while he was doing his
[3629.2] Curry: so he had to take separate connectors on the r9mm and run them onto the normal pins on on
[3634.8] Curry: the flight control as well so it's it's a stupid thing but they finally said that they they've
[3639.76] Curry: worked out their wireless protocol so soon you'll be able to update r9 receivers using a wireless
[3647.12] Curry: protocol much like you can on the crossfire but of course before you can do that you'll probably
[3651.36] Curry: have to update the receiver manually with the right firmware level to support wireless
[3656.64] Curry: that's a pro that's not actually something you can buy this is the release product right now
[3661.12] Frank: holy that's ridiculous that is ridiculous so as as flying monkey says in the chat fls guy
[3668.4] NJ: good ideas executed poorly um so we've how do they do the usual things is release phoney ceo

[3690.8] Curry: to be a pass through no i was like it's not working and when i sent them a picture of what
[3695.36] Curry: i did they say oh no no you have to take it out the thing i was like really you you want
[3701.68] Jack: consumers in there didn't you yeah so that is 100 just dumb me being as careful as i can as
[3709.52] Curry: completely killed and i mean it's not i mean you get a lot in it it's not not a bad price for what
[3714.32] Curry: you get it's like 61 but that's when you're dealing with really delicate things that you
[3719.6] Curry: because r9 is so beta you're going to have to go in and out of there four or five times potentially
[3724.72] Curry: to keep upgrading the firmware and that is gonna that is gonna break because that is that is
[3729.36] NJ: delicate to say the least if you've got if you've got reviewers struggling to do this stuff that
[3734.72] NJ: are fiddling and dealing with these electronics all the time and you're still getting problems i
[3740.56] NJ: mean what's that going to be like to the the mass public it's just such a terrible i don't know i
[3745.6] NJ: don't know how stuff like that gets out the factory door i'm really um i sit in the room and go yep

[4028.69] NJ: they fixed it silently by changing to an m12 lens which is the same as the one that the turtles v2
[4034.53] NJ: runs it doesn't have a lot of jello it has no jello problems but they did it quietly they didn't
[4039.09] NJ: all you know they're a reputable company that all they had to do was put a post out and say

[4049.73] NJ: for people instead they did it quietly like no one was going to notice and you think hang on
