Big massive shout out to our patreons. So these guys are the guys who [9.12] Jack: donate for the editing and they really do make a huge difference to keep the show alive. [17.12] Jack: We've been sponsored by Art Faulkner, Ferdy Evers, Mikey Dread and Under Fluke. [23.2] Jack: These guys are absolute legends. Thank you so much and see you next show. [30.0] Frank: Let's drone out now. And action. Jack doesn't know what to do. We're going to wait 10 minutes [46.21] Jack: just for traditional sake. Hello and welcome to Let's drone out. And tonight we are joined by [56.69] Jack: Andrew slash Frank. Good evening. Mako Reactor. Hello. Even that should be Mako Reactor. [68.13] Jack: Five Fantasy Seven. One life. Sorry. One life. We are joined by the sexy NJ. [76.61] Jack: Hello. God I've missed you. My little Tony. Bonjour. Sorry. And everyone's favourite Curry [85.17] Jack: kitten. Hello. Look at that. There's a whole row of people. So much better than a few weeks ago. [90.13] Jack: And everyone's usual. Oh my god Jack's an idiot. Jack's here. Right until I fly. How are we all [97.97] Jack: doing? Well you are. I'm not with it but yeah we are here to talk about your wonderful trip Mako. [112.77] Jack: And you've been and had some experiences. Straight in there Jack. And Tony. We're getting [118.61] Jack: right into it. Tony upset you by texting you asking about your dad. Oh really bad. [130.85] Curry: He didn't mean it. It just got awkward now. [135.97] Mako: I look at it. Well I think actually Tony might have said this. It's more to honor him. [142.37] Jack: Yeah because he was a very intelligent man and he made you. [147.33] Tony: Yeah sure. We'll get back to that bit in a minute. Should we talk about the. Where did you go? [154.21] Mako: All right. Well it was the New York City drone film festival. But it was actually in Jersey City. [162.29] Mako: So it wasn't in New York City. They just called it that. And the Friday night was the film festival [167.17] Mako: and I wasn't there for that. I'm kind of disappointed that I couldn't make it for [170.69] Mako: that because there were some really cool FPV pilots nominated for awards. It was a [174.93] Mako: lot of aerial photography but NERC was nominated. Red FPV was nominated. And I think there might [183.57] Mako: have been GAD 707 was nominated too. So that was really neat but I didn't get to see that. [188.85] Mako: I went on Saturday which was at the science museum. It was called Day of Drones. And it [196.13] Mako: was really a bunch of workshops, panels, classes that you could take as well as some demos. They [205.17] Mako: did some fly demos and tiny whoop racing. So there was a full day of drone activity. It's a lot of [211.73] Mako: fun. I can kind of go into some specifics about my panel if you want. Yeah go go. Okay so there [219.25] Mako: were different panels. Oh my god had a panel. I got to see his about FPV freestyling. [225.73] Mako: Andy Shen drone had a panel and unfortunately I missed his because his was at the same time as [230.69] Mako: mine. But mine was basically bridging the gender gap in drones and it was myself and four other [238.29] Mako: women on the panel. And it really just showed me the variety in drones. These women were more aerial [245.49] Mako: photography drone pilots. They all had their part 107s all in businesses. One is from Australia and [254.13] Mako: she leads this company that basically is like lifeguarding and watching for sharks in the ocean. [261.01] Mako: Such a quite cool job. Like that sounds pretty sick. [265.97] Tony: And then what was that? I wouldn't mind doing that. Sounds good fun. Yeah but she said that [272.45] Mako: they were transitioning more into like people sitting behind a screen and not and just kind [279.09] Mako: of pushing buttons here and there. It was more autonomous it sounded and it sounded something [284.05] Mako: like FPV pilots wouldn't like that. You know we want to be like doing more and behind the goggles. [291.65] Mako: But there was another woman who was like the first female who ever passed the part 107 so [296.93] Mako: that was really neat. And an educator was there as well. And we kind of talked about just how [304.13] Mako: there weren't a lot of women in the drone industry and kind of some of the barriers and maybe what [309.17] Curry: reasons why that is. Just to jump in. Is it any better represented for women in aerial photography [317.25] Curry: as opposed to sort of more freestyle FPV pilots or is it still very very low? For sure. I don't [324.93] Mako: have any facts about that but it seems as though there are more aerial photography pilots who are [330.85] Mako: women than FPV pilots. I don't know if you guys would agree with that but. I only see a few FPV [339.49] Tony: pilots. Yeah. And do you want to really follow any photography stuff? Well I know there's in the UK [346.61] Frank: there's the helicopter girls. So that's they've been running for quite a long long while they're [352.05] Frank: well established as cinematographers and videographers. Got some very nice very fancy [358.21] Curry: kits. I suppose it might be a bit more of a natural progression even if you're coming [364.05] Curry: from a photography background and you're then like oh I could put a camera in the air here or [368.29] Mako: I could film this differently. Yeah that makes sense. But most of the aerial photography people [374.13] Mako: there were so interested in FPV and wanted to start doing that. That's good. That's cool. [380.61] Curry: Did you did you convert any? Did you tell them what to go out and buy in? [384.93] Curry: What was that? Did you do you think you've managed to convert any of them? Did you give [388.93] Curry: them a kit list to buy in and say this is how you start doing it and get on the tiny [392.21] Mako: loop course and that sort of thing? Yeah I don't know. I think they I think they converted the [398.61] Mako: person who organized it, Elena. She's a woman who drones CEO and she was so interested in it [405.33] Mako: and wants to get on board with it for sure. So maybe a little bit but they also converted me [411.97] Jack: I would say. I want to get my part 107 now. We still got a piece from you on account to 107. [423.57] Jack: Tony what's up with your cameraman? Because he's kind of giving you like a cinematic feel. [428.85] Jack: Now you've got like a does anyone else got that? He's got like a border around him. [433.65] Jack: Have I? Yeah it's really weird. Definitely got a lens flare. [440.53] Tony: That's that's God shining on me tonight. You don't believe in God do you? [447.01] Curry: I don't know. It'd be one of the light bulbs in the dome then. [452.45] Tony: Wait that's another that's the Flat Earth series that I'm gonna start next week. [457.89] Jack: I've got I've got a little thing. Apparently we won we won fourth place. [463.65] Tony: We didn't win we are fourth place. That's not winning. [467.09] Tony: It is anything. Oh it's the top 10 so. [471.17] NJ: He polished his head. You never get that in boxing do you? I won second place. [479.49] Jack: It's not for us. We're like the worst. You're even less likely to win fourth place. [487.09] Jack: Well we've got we've got fourth place and you know. [490.69] Jack: Fourth place in what Jack? Yeah that's why I'm wondering. [494.77] Jack: Best drone podcast on Frank. Where was it again? I don't know it's me. I didn't find the link. [502.13] Jack: So I'm reading your website. Yeah I'll post the link hang on. [505.97] Mako: It was free spot blog nameless. Why aren't you letting a sparkler for this winning fourth place? [514.13] Jack: It means opening. [517.57] Tony: I agree we got it. Hang on let me. [521.17] Jack: And also I've been putting up Let's Drone Out episodes up lately. Slowly. [526.13] Tony: Yeah so I had four minute 31 with you and [530.05] Tony: Curry kitten just basically giggling for four minutes. [533.65] Curry: That's what we do. That's what we do together and we tickle each other. [538.37] Jack: I think it works. [541.09] Jack: Fourth place. [547.81] Curry: I'll tell you what disturbs me about this fourth place is that it's such a narrow field. It's like [552.61] Curry: podcast drone based podcast we've never really come forth. Can we have like UK drone based podcast? [560.21] Curry: The UK drone based podcast is on every Thursday. Then we have a more more chance. [566.21] Frank: Yeah because even in UK drone based podcasts we're second. [570.29] Frank: Yeah this is how we're second. Well there's the [577.65] NJ: maybe we could win with an ethnic diversity. We have that into the categories. Yeah we should try. [584.77] Jack: Yeah Let's Drone Out isn't racist. [590.53] Jack: I don't know but I'm proud of you guys. That's what I was going to say. I'm really proud of you. [594.61] Jack: It's an honor. It's taken us three years. [598.29] Jack: Yeah we're not as good as the drone trainer podcast or the Ask Drone You podcast. [604.77] Jack: We're not as good as the drone radio show. Just just to put it in perspective if somebody was [609.81] Curry: to dream up a new drone podcast and put it on air tonight I think they would be eighth wouldn't they [613.65] Jack: or something. But we beat the FPV show. Screw this guys. That is an interesting point you make [623.25] Frank: Kerry. Because it does say top 10 and there's only nine on the list. Why are we spoiling it [631.17] NJ: for long girls? We're being so British about this aren't we? That's what's happening here. [637.97] NJ: Yeah. Give an award to a bunch of Brits and they'll just completely tear it apart. Well there no we [642.93] Mako: didn't really win anything. I should have said there are nine because I would have thought maybe [647.33] Jack: there were 20 and it would have sounded better than before. No we can't even do that right. [653.89] Jack: It can't even come from us. Jack you got a lighter fizzy thing. Oh the patches yeah. [662.21] Jack: The patches just donate a huge two bucks. Why are you buying sparklers man? I've got to buy a lighter [666.85] Jack: as well because um. Oh my word. Because the lighter doesn't work. If only there was a pound shop. [675.01] Jack: I don't like it. Bleach is my retinas. [677.49] Tony: Any patches? Keep it away from your Goldilocks. Don't get it. [685.97] Tony: Hold it up you can't see. [689.65] Tony: I like it being this end of it and not lighting it and stuff. It's good. There you go. There you go [694.93] Jack: patches. Cheers mate. And I'd like to thank everyone who tunes in every week and listens to [700.61] Jack: this god-awful monstrosity and uh yeah like thank you for helping us get fourth place. [708.13] Jack: If you really love us I mean really like adore and listen to this podcast and it provides you [715.57] Jack: with any sort of help whatsoever please go to our iTunes review and leave a positive review [722.69] Jack: other than uh we got a nasty review and then you read later on and then it's actually one of our [728.53] Frank: friends. Do you mean you can comment? Yeah. You mean iTunes review? Yeah iTunes review. Not YouTube [735.57] Frank: review. Sorry. That's not a thing. Yeah. I think Gary's in the chat by the way. Hello everyone [743.33] Tony: wave to Gary. Hi Gary. He's so gonna be called Gary forever now. Don't accidentally click the [755.57] Jack: report a concern. That won't help us. Sorry. Mako what were you saying? I was thinking actually [763.97] Mako: there was an interesting statistic um that they brought up at the panel that said often women [771.73] Mako: when they apply for a job will only apply if they have 100 of the qualifications and um men I think [780.21] Mako: it was like they would do it 60 percent you know so I don't I think that's probably pretty close [786.29] Mako: to true. I never applied unless I had 100 percent of the qualifications. Who just died? Someone [797.09] Jack: collapsed in shock. What was that noise? So yeah guys if you got if you got iTunes [805.17] Jack: leave us a review. Please. Please. Thank you. Oh there's the link. Yeah um a similar statistic [815.49] Frank: I've heard to that is that um like I can't remember what percentage but like men are much [821.65] Frank: more likely than women to ask for raises and and things like that um but was it out of your panel [829.01] Frank: discussion was there anything in particular that um kind of came up as like a major hurdle I mean [835.97] Frank: obviously you said like applying for jobs is is one thing but was there anything is there anything [841.17] Mako: else out there that's like a major hurdle? Yeah I think we really talked about just the way we were [849.17] Mako: raised and how that was a bit different and nowadays like there's more STEM and you're getting [854.05] Mako: more of that um in the schools in the classrooms and you see more girls doing kind of the hands-on [860.29] Mako: stuff now um I know when I was in school I took home ec you know I didn't have those kind of tech [868.77] Mako: classes I was always encouraged to kind of play with the the dolls and that sort of thing but [875.17] Mako: I always wanted to go out and play with the boys and that's where Jack only likes the idea of that [882.29] Tony: Jack used to be encouraged to do home ec and play with the [885.81] Mako: dolls and stuff didn't you? I also think kind of staying in it staying in the hobbies hard when um [892.29] Mako: I just don't have that tech background you know I have to learn so much more like even the tools [898.61] Mako: that we use I was never really comfortable using so I'd like well which screwdriver do I use [903.97] Jack: something as simple as that have you bought yourself a pink set just to add to the cliche [912.29] Jack: or get your favorite parent anodize it pink you know and just take it back Rosie the Riveter [917.73] Mako: you know but I'm trying to learn more and more I um I did that little build video of that frame [922.77] Mako: I know it's just a frame it's not that difficult to build but it was fun doing [926.85] Tony: I don't know you don't seem to only try and build a frame let's not talk about that I've got pink [932.77] Frank: tools talk about applying for jobs that you're not qualified for oh yeah oh you may oh yeah [942.93] Curry: it's interesting what you say about the stem subjects because over in the UK [946.93] Curry: the computer I think it is actually the computer science subject now is now a lot more programming [953.65] Curry: based but um it turns out at least at my daughter's school to be not that popular as an option [958.85] Curry: because it's hard which is I think a good thing because it should be hard and then it's very [963.09] Curry: challenging but because of that there's there's like a handful of boys and girls that have actually [967.57] Curry: chosen it as opposed to like the what I call the soft subjects like sociology that was very popular [973.73] Frank: yeah well if you look back through sort of the past few decades back in the 80s computer science [980.29] Frank: was was actually dominated by women in in academics in academia and then all of a sudden [988.85] Frank: it sort of became this I think it was when it kind of became the computers became a hobby thing [994.93] Frank: and you could access it all of a sudden it stopped being such a female dominated area and [999.97] Frank: and became seen as a kind of masculine thing to do for some reason um but I don't know why that [1006.85] Frank: is or what we can draw from that but that's that's something that's kind of fairly regularly [1011.57] Frank: shared in in the kind of um IET and that sort of group that you know look at where engineers come [1018.37] Frank: from over the past few decades um it's just like there's been this kind of change in who goes and [1024.05] Frank: does computer science um but I don't know what we do about that that sounds that sounds like a job [1029.97] Jack: for my trans activist friends you know like talking about we're going in dangerous ground [1036.69] Jack: that us idiots should never go yeah especially this sort of like level of show but I'm glad that [1045.09] Jack: you know girls are doing more like you know techie stuff and getting a bit more sciency [1053.01] Jack: and stuff it's like it's bizarrely sort of like gender assumptions you know it's just like we're [1059.97] Jack: all people at the end of the day you know tony's good at washing windows whether he's a woman or [1065.89] Jack: not and I look like Janet when I straighten my hair I could be a receptionist even though I'm [1074.13] Jack: dyslexic I do love the Janet receptionist look I know it's quite a good look at it really [1079.25] Mako: we have a fair number of girls at my school who are really into it now and actually um [1086.69] Mako: I don't know if I mentioned this last time it was on your show but came to my race and um [1091.73] Mako: watched me race and put on the goggles and then tried some flying at the end of it so [1096.69] Mako: I have a bunch of girls who will love it probably just as much as the boys that's really cool [1102.45] Tony: that's really cool did you get to meet and talk to tommy at the show [1106.69] Mako: yeah yeah I think he appreciated us in the audience he kind of talked to us a little bit [1111.25] Mako: because it was more interactive in a discussion because we were one of the few people who were [1116.13] Jack: FPV pilots there um so I think we understand what you're saying it's fine oh yeah [1126.13] Mako: but yeah he was really interesting I asked him about his acrobat because I keep I'm on the lookout [1131.97] Mako: for really a really good micro cinna cinna micro I guess um I had a diatone one and I'm working on [1140.29] Mako: that one and I have one it was interesting the acrobat but now I think I'm gonna go the [1144.61] Mako: shun drone route and get a nutmeg I've never heard of that I don't know these yeah they have [1151.33] Mako: the square and the nutmeg I know listen to those names don't worry we've got the the potato wars [1157.89] Curry: going on at the moment yeah let's let us all say hi right all right because we know you watch and [1164.21] Curry: steal all the ideas nice to meet you come on don't take any views any views expressed by any guests [1173.89] Curry: on this show a person may not reflect the views of these hosts also the host may talk rubbish as [1178.53] Tony: well so ignore them but that is quite true but yeah me and frank did a potato quad ages ago [1188.53] Tony: what have they called they're not rotor right anymore though are they [1195.09] Tony: no they rename their facebook fan club is it rotor right a fan club yes I think I didn't [1202.77] Tony: think it went down well and I don't think they can change it for 20 more days or something [1207.73] Jack: which I find quite funny um batwoman asks batwoman fpv asks I've had my daughter's teachers asking [1216.93] Jack: about it today they want her to bring her little quadcopter in to show them that's awesome hi [1223.41] Mako: batwoman oh yes showing the love um at school I've done a few presentations you guys should [1231.17] Mako: look into doing that you should go in and do a presentation for the whole school like you don't [1234.93] Mako: have to do the whole school at once but small groups can come in you could fly for them [1239.25] Curry: they would love it but you'd ask lot turning up at a school suggested I go in for careers day [1246.21] Curry: and I had to decline based on apparently lynch me and you don't have a career anymore [1253.97] Curry: I know it's like what do you do I don't do anything really I sit home sometimes I fly some [1257.73] Curry: drones and make some youtube videos because all the kids would be that's amazing you want to do [1261.57] Curry: that what kind of questions you need none at all you just leave school now it's so funny [1270.61] Mako: it's so funny how into youtubers they are if they find out you have even five followers you [1276.37] Curry: a celebrity in their eyes it's ridiculous that's the only thing that keeps me even vaguely cool [1283.33] Curry: at school amongst my daughter's peers otherwise I'm just that stupid old man I'm a man of your [1289.89] Jack: youtube channel curry kitten and I mentioned you the other day and someone said I really love [1297.17] Jack: curry kitten I can't remember who it was but they liked you as well good enough I'll take it [1304.69] Frank: richard wild one in the chat says his 10-year-old daughter flies fixed wings [1308.93] Frank: and he's getting into quads and she loves watching and learning the build and fix process [1313.97] Frank: so there you go definitely to put her on to your to your video yeah great god I don't know whether [1322.05] Jack: me and tony can be trusted like you know we'll pass the criminal background check have you [1326.53] Jack: done anything dodgy tone it's just called airing it's just trying to get in the dead hookers in the [1337.89] Jack: search in this show being like he's got a wank sock [1351.41] Jack: see whereas you're like doing good and you know in fact we're probably making your reputation work [1357.49] Frank: yeah sorry about that green patches in the chat kindly requests that richard wild one keeps his [1365.25] Frank: daughter flying fixed wing I imagine because green patches feels uh slightly uh at risk of [1372.13] Frank: going further down the global leaderboards oh having another a 10-year-old uh start starting [1380.05] Frank: to fly quads because as we know you know below 16 years old you're far better at flying quads [1389.25] Frank: yep and then you hit that that age and then all of a sudden a terrible pilot all of a sudden [1395.65] Jack: right should we should we go off topic uh well like on topic what yeah off off the the topic [1404.37] Jack: that is mako reactor on our show and talk about the big uh the new laws have come in and now you've [1413.25] Jack: got to phone the airport to let know that you've changed your battery and you can take off again [1418.05] Frank: five and a half nautical miles uh yeah all of that kind of stuff um yeah we've had some changes [1425.97] NJ: over here have you got a rundown of the changes andrew that you can yeah I'm sure you've got this [1432.21] NJ: bullet point is in front somewhere somewhere organized man you are I'm not organized enough [1437.73] Jack: on that I I actually hate them and I might even make a video on it where I phone um shorum airport [1447.17] Jack: seven times in a row uh yeah I'm gonna call you back in another three minutes because that's how [1451.73] Tony: much long my batteries last I'll mention I'm taking off again is that how bad it's gonna be [1459.49] Curry: I've heard on the grapevine that airport seems to be less willing to grant um an exclusion for [1469.65] Curry: somebody wanting to fly because they're slightly more worried about like liability for some reason [1474.77] Curry: so so people that have been flying in the zones now um are and I mentioned this just from comments [1482.69] Curry: I've seen around in various places that concern that they're not getting the permissions that [1487.17] Curry: they thought they'd be able to as easily how that holds up or not the I've seen quite a few people [1495.73] Frank: who have done this have rung up their local ATC when they're going to fly in and what's what's the [1503.41] Frank: initialism for this one I think it's flight restriction zone um so what it is is that all [1511.41] Frank: the airfields and airports and all that kind of thing now have a I think it's five and a half [1518.85] Frank: nautical mile um exclusion zone around them and then a bit along the runway as well it's a little [1526.69] Frank: bit further that's in like kilometers or something because air law loves mixed units for some reason [1533.81] Frank: um and then so if you're going to fly in one of those areas you have to ring up the ATC and say [1541.41] Frank: hello I want to fly is that okay and they go yes um so from I've seen quite a few people who have [1549.97] Frank: done this and it's been absolutely fine quite a few of them have been told by the ATCs to just [1555.73] Frank: like yeah it's if you're going to be flying there in that particular spot over the next six months [1561.73] Frank: that's fine go away call us again in six months just so we don't forget about you um I think there [1568.37] Frank: have been maybe one or two people who have been a bit adversarial when they're calling up and [1577.73] Frank: that hasn't gone particularly well for them um but basically don't be a dick and it will be fine [1586.05] Frank: um that's checked naked yeah yeah um I wouldn't recommend calling up Shoreham every time you're [1592.29] Frank: about to take off but just call them before you take off the first time have a bit of a discussion [1599.01] Frank: with them they'll probably say yeah you're far away we don't care about you you're flying below [1605.33] Curry: the tree level it's fine so I guess you shouldn't say I want to go up really high so I can see your [1610.29] Frank: plane's land that would be unpopular that would not go down well but if you say I'm flying below [1617.73] Frank: the tree level or I'm only going up to a thousand feet or whatever you're doing [1622.37] Frank: um and say you know I'm staying in this particular area and it would help to have [1628.77] Frank: you know some longitude and latitude or particular I don't understand longitude and latitude [1635.33] Frank: you don't need to just look it up on google and read it out to them it's fine um they'll know what [1641.57] Frank: it means just don't just just just be polite to them just ask the question they'll say yes why [1650.77] Frank: are you asking us you idiot um I can see I can see this ending ending with a logbook [1657.97] NJ: that's where I think this will be very similar to general aviation well we're all left the right [1663.09] NJ: well we just keep keep whether it's an app or whether it's a physical logbook some way of saying [1670.93] NJ: I was here over these days and these hours because if you're saying this is my area [1675.17] NJ: I'm going to be flying here I hope you guys are cool with it and ATC say yeah you're absolutely [1679.65] NJ: fine if anything happens then the first people that they're going to call this probably you [1685.97] NJ: at which point you'll have to say here's my logbook I wasn't flying on the day that event happened [1691.49] Curry: I suppose the other worry is you call them up and they say yeah you're fine for six months [1697.57] Curry: um if you keep flying that area and then something somebody turns up says hey you're [1702.61] Curry: in a restricted zone you say it's okay I've got permission from the ATC and they say prove it [1709.57] Curry: and uh the ATC say oh yeah I don't know John was on that day did he write it down don't know [1714.53] Frank: no we haven't got anything I think there is a club or two that I have seen that have literally [1719.89] Frank: got an email with the ATC saying yeah you're fine for that amount of time [1724.05] Frank: flying in that area so it might be worth doing that if if you're going to be flying in the same [1728.69] Frank: spot for that amount of time but basically I don't think it's anything to panic about until [1734.05] Frank: you've actually had that conversation if they say no go away we never want you flying anywhere near [1739.01] Frank: us ever again stay away then we might it might be worth actually bringing that up and see what [1745.81] Frank: we can do as a community but for the moment I don't think it seems like anyone's hit up against [1751.33] Mako: that kind of hard wall yet well here um I fly in a location that you're supposed to be within [1759.49] Mako: and not within you have to be farther than five miles from an airport here [1763.57] Mako: um and I fly a place that's like 4.75 so I originally called the ATC and the first time [1770.45] Mako: I called they took like my name my number what time I was flying a bunch of information my license [1776.45] Mako: number I think too um and then driving and they're just like basically leave me alone and hung up [1788.05] Curry: Frank if you're in five however many dautical miles of an airport but you flew five miles away [1794.13] Curry: in a different direction is that okay just so we can get clear that one up [1800.13] Frank: if as long as you're flying away from the airport that's fine uh as long as you're [1805.73] Frank: within you know visual line of sight I've got very good eyes and I can see through my goggles [1811.17] Frank: it's not you it's your spotter that needs to have very good eye invisible timing is awesome as well [1814.93] NJ: yeah I do know I'd prefer this I'd prefer this system if it was done on email just so you've [1820.85] NJ: got something officially and writing I would I would probably not call ATC I would if they're [1827.57] NJ: gonna have an email that you can make them out of hours that they might otherwise be busy doing [1833.01] Jack: more important stuff not my favorite would be I call them record the conversation then I get [1839.49] Jack: drugged to court and then I'm like I have got proof and then I play it and then they're like [1844.93] Jack: we're gonna now see you for recording us without our permission this is the other question which [1849.89] Frank: mr fruity cakes in the chat does ask is who's gonna enforce this who's gonna drag you to court [1855.09] Tony: over this like who's gonna do that who is gonna enforce exactly who like I like his names well [1864.29] Frank: yes good name um yeah I don't think there's anything to worry about at the moment uh just a [1872.45] Frank: reminder to everyone that tomorrow Friday the 15th there's gonna probably be some well no it's [1879.17] Frank: gonna be Brexit news let's be honest but there's the possibility of there being some news about [1883.65] Frank: the drone bill that's gonna be talked about but it's not the real drone bill ignore it don't worry [1888.69] Curry: about it I think you probably get buried under all the Brexit stuff yeah I think we're safe [1892.93] Jack: what's happening with Brexit other than we're not I think we should dig up guy forks [1900.37] NJ: I think that guy had the right idea well two two-thirds of parliament voted against [1906.37] NJ: anything happening by the end of the month so basically they've also voted against nothing [1910.61] NJ: happening so yes yeah it's it's just just gonna keep getting right they're all addicted to putting [1917.09] Curry: things down now which is great they're just enjoying it whatever comes up now hey guy they [1922.45] Jack: better let you back in from your travels when Brexit does happen and I'm really annoyed if they [1927.81] Tony: don't the other chat wants to know what Brexit is it's a it's a new drone Brexit means breakfast [1935.81] NJ: everyone's knows that um anyway yeah interesting uh in answer that uh Jack travels there's something [1945.33] NJ: with a lot of us who work in and out of Europe and the world travel regularly it's this is a [1952.21] NJ: strong danger of it becoming a huge pain in the arse yeah I know well do you think that's because [1959.89] Frank: the you know the border of control gonna finger so everyone's listening to this get away from this [1966.45] Frank: so drones are brilliant drones are good hashtag has anyone of us uh flown this week because the [1975.09] Curry: weather has been unbelievable it's been blowing like 60 mile an hour winds outside every day [1980.69] Frank: good weather for like dynamic soaring but other than very dynamic don't get round with a glider [1987.41] Jack: and I had to make a battery adapter so I think Dom's gonna go out gliding soon that sounds that [1993.57] Tony: funny that means it'll the the wind will drop and it'll be fine for flying mako you've been out [2000.61] Tony: lately were you flying a hole in here though flying where do you have tiny ropes in a hole [2007.89] Mako: yeah hole where many quite outside um this past weekend it was finally warm enough [2015.65] Mako: oh I flew around some trees and uh there was snow on the ground but still got snow I can't [2023.89] Mako: believe it yeah it won't go away it won't melt but I fly indoors a lot because we do the tiny [2030.21] Jack: wolf racings racing every week yep and I tune in now and again and you pay me a little bit of [2036.37] Jack: attention on twitch and I'm like oh she's on twitch you're the best how long do you get [2045.49] Jack: five you need to do it more so you get five continuous viewers and over 12 and then we can [2053.73] Jack: subscribe to you it's my husband's thing you need to I'm sick of watching adverts for call of duty [2066.05] Jack: even more mobile camera yeah but I don't know what did you see any interesting stuff on the [2072.69] Jack: the you know drone video like awards yeah I was gonna ask what what was the format of those was [2079.25] Curry: it yeah was it bits of drone footage in other films or was it all especially just shot from [2085.81] Curry: drones especially for it or what was it what was the deal teach us well the film festival part [2092.69] Mako: with a lot of um just like videos of drone flying like aerial photography and fpv videos [2098.85] Mako: like I think the one of NERC when it was when he was flying around maybe a museum [2102.93] Mako: I don't know if you ever saw that video he did I think he did it with his Shen drone squirt [2107.17] Mako: um but I wasn't there for that part of it so I don't really know much about that but the day [2111.73] Mako: I was there you could go into different workshops so there was like an editing workshop you can [2116.61] Mako: learn about editing footage and there was someone really professional that's been doing it a long [2120.37] Mako: time and kind of teaching you about it uh Andy Shen drone did his uh cinematic footage with [2127.17] Mako: racing drones so he talked about that um and uh oh my god did the flying freestyle with fpv [2135.81] Mako: and there were places where you can go and kind of demo drones for people so they had the cage [2141.57] Mako: and they had this autonomous one that kind of followed you around I think it was called a sky [2145.25] Mako: deal maybe um and then they did some fpv tiny whooping in the cage to kind of demonstrate that [2151.89] Mako: and then we did some tiny this part was really fun we did some tiny whoop racing in one of the [2156.45] Mako: exhibits and the kids were holding up kind of wands with circle gates and we got to fly through [2161.73] Mako: them and demonstrated there were a bunch of screens around the the room where people can [2166.69] Mako: watch the screens um but it was in the 9-11 exhibit so that was kind of interesting the [2171.73] Mako: world trade center exhibit and there were steel beams from the actual towers in there so it kind [2176.61] Mako: of was like a little awkward flying around at the same time because it's kind of like [2181.17] Mako: you don't want to crash into any of them it's also like yeah you want to be careful but you're [2186.29] Mako: flying around and respectful of it because there's so many emotions attached to that yeah wow [2192.93] Frank: oh man that's that sounds like no nothing from you tony i don't i don't want to know what you're [2198.21] Jack: gonna say anything oh my god no just by saying that i know what's in his head yeah [2206.21] Jack: no comment all my workmates are fascinated by you [2211.89] Frank: they all wanted to know we're not going down this rabbit hole oh please um quickly thinking [2217.65] Frank: of something else to say uh this weekend's there's drone clash happening in the netherlands is anyone [2222.85] Frank: going either anyone in the chat going do we know anyone who's going no no i've been watching i [2230.29] Curry: watched peter streeple's video about him uh checking it out and i think number god's built [2237.17] Curry: one has any for uh his team to do it and it's essentially you have like uh what is it like a [2244.61] Curry: queen that acts as like the base and a bunch of things attack it and there's defenders and [2250.21] Curry: attackers etc have i got that generally right it's a drone fight then it's something a bit more [2256.13] Curry: it is a drone fight but there are there's like a base ship and i think there's like fighters [2261.17] Frank: so they're all sort of built slightly differently oh so it's kind of like a defender and a couple [2266.69] Curry: of attackers or something yes like the sort of thought so he's tried to build it so you [2271.89] Curry: couldn't get into the ducks and it can like survive having things thrown on it and it can [2277.33] Curry: obviously air mode over but of course the more the more you surround the ducks with like uh [2282.77] Curry: wiring stuff as he found out trying to make sure nothing got into it the heavier and less [2286.85] Curry: efficient it becomes it was like full throttle trying to get this thing off the floor which would [2291.97] Curry: fly for about two minutes so he went through a whole thing about trying to make it more efficient [2296.45] Curry: and more usable uh so that i think that's sort of an interesting concept that people are going to [2301.41] Curry: be different ideas to it and people have got like different ideas about how they're going to attack [2305.57] Curry: it so some will go sort of all out with something they can smash and others could just like well i'm [2309.73] Curry: just going to hang this string down as if and get it into a prop and that sort of thing i'm [2314.29] Frank: interested to see how this goes because in the u.s there's been for quite a while uh or quite a few [2319.89] Frank: years i think it's at one of the maker fairs where there's game of drones um which is a similar kind [2325.25] Frank: of idea but it's one on one as far as i can tell or at least it's kind of it's not teams it's [2331.09] Frank: individuals even if there's like a few of them in an arena at the same time and they're like you say [2336.05] Frank: having strings coming down from them but this sounds like it's a kind of a team versus team [2340.45] Frank: as far as i can tell seems that way but it's yeah it's interesting i am very tempted to like buy a [2346.37] Frank: last minute ticket and go and have a look because it sounds quite fun you should do it film it and [2350.61] Frank: report it next week yes come on because i was meant to be going to pop them this weekend and [2359.65] Frank: sourcing stuff out with kqrc but unfortunately trying to get three busy people into the same [2365.33] Frank: place at the same time isn't working out so well uh so it's probably not going to be this weekend [2369.97] Jack: you didn't see my invitations to the mini air show for things that are not working out so well [2375.57] Jack: what the inviting people to talk uh i i honest to god i feel like jk job jack i i felt like jk [2385.09] Jack: rolling but with a shit version of harry path what what's rejection all around what [2395.25] Frank: i you i think you're far deeper into harry path to lord and i am [2400.93] Jack: she was unemployed she was taking her book round everywhere and everyone was saying no [2409.17] Curry: so jack jack's the alternate universe where jk rolling was turned down by everybody [2413.57] Curry: yes and half hung herself i'm off the kitchen table [2418.37] Tony: jesus christ what do you take medicine wise at the moment jack well soon in april i will [2425.09] Jack: be cold turkey because it's going on the controlled substance list and i will be in pain [2433.49] Tony: so you're gonna be even more happy yeah is this why you're thinking of giving up flying [2440.21] Frank: yep i'm very screwed so we we need lots of uh donations from everyone for various [2448.21] Jack: analgesics for jack so that he carries on flying i know i'm not allowed cannabis laced gummy bears [2454.37] Jack: i'm not allowed pre-gabble in i'm not allowed government in when you say you're not allowed [2458.77] Curry: them is this because of a stomach reaction or the government the government have stuck them [2464.45] Jack: in ireland they've got a bit of a pre-gabble in issue there are we sending you over to ireland is [2470.13] Jack: that a thing no no you'll have to send me back to the eu where they i'm allowed to be treated [2475.09] Frank: and put down we're gonna have to have like export licenses for that i don't know if it's not too [2480.61] Curry: late to send them off to dignitas if you want to just like cut it off no i'll end up going to [2485.33] Jack: sweden instead of switzerland that's the problem with dyslexia isn't it i've come here to kill myself [2501.89] Jack: anyway that was a bit so mako would you like to tell us about your your daddy [2509.81] Mako: yeah [2513.57] Jack: tony where were you tony you you do this segment because you wanted to learn stuff [2520.05] Jack: hold on hold on we've got to stop there i've got nothing to lie all i've got is this whole [2525.49] Tony: panel that's locked in the lantern i guess robert's uh gig ever be right thank you buddy thank you [2535.33] Tony: thank you so much for the donation 20 bucks from roman i really appreciate everything for this [2542.05] Frank: this gives tony some valuable thinking time oh yeah also remember the cameras further up [2548.85] Jack: called up and up up up up there damn it have you got the fire extinguisher handy [2558.5] Jack: no i'm just gonna hope for the best oh well and push them all together [2562.5] Jack: oh that's uh that's kicked off quite a bit [2572.74] Jack: look at it it's molten [2576.26] Curry: pleased together wow it's like it turned into thermal lance or something that's amazing [2583.7] Jack: no one likes your t-shirt by the way this was a christmas present off my dear friend frank [2589.86] Jack: yes it was and just saying thank you man i love it it was one size too big and i've grown into it [2597.54] Jack: shirt that fits because awkwardly my new colleagues asked me you know what do you do [2606.26] Jack: at the evening and i'm just like i sleep i eat and i you know everywhere and uh i was like that's [2613.86] Jack: it i think i'll just just think of me as a big giant bear that's hibernating in brain yeah [2621.78] Jack: which is a whole new rabbit hole to go down [2627.22] Jack: but i would like to point out if i was a big gate there tony would be my cub [2634.5] Jack: yep yep little cubby because you're not a twink um nj would probably be nj you you're older [2642.58] Jack: than me though aren't you um yes i am elder than you jack mentally and [2650.66] Curry: nj is really considering hard if he wants to acknowledge that question [2656.18] NJ: why he came back the reason no the reason he said that was because my birthday is on [2659.86] Jack: monday and it's unfortunately a big one no way it's the big three oh but maybe a bit more than [2668.18] NJ: that i'm afraid oh shut up nj you look 12 yeah really the life begins at um yeah it's that one [2679.86] Jack: oh god half 37 as well or is it 27 when are you meant to do yourself in if you're a talented [2686.66] NJ: musician oh um yeah i think it's 20 yeah it's 27 is the kind of that's there was one magical [2695.06] NJ: magical was completely the wrong word um don't use that at the um tree tower [2702.26] NJ: yeah i think jimmy hendrix died in curcobain there's all these there's maybe why now they all [2708.1] NJ: seem to seem to uh yeah well that was a bleak turn for tagging off the back of my upcoming [2715.38] Curry: basically you failed as a musician because you're still alive that's an interesting way of looking [2719.7] Mako: at it exactly i'm actually stoked to turn 40 because not it's a few years away not too many [2726.18] Curry: though all right just push that one on that don't worry about us it's like no it's many years away [2730.18] Mako: from me but i'll be stoked about it well you can fly in the um like the older people race i don't [2737.22] Mako: know what they call it at multi gpio you can fly at the 40 plus race yes dimension special i think [2746.1] Jack: yeah let's fly the wind job tony what is this called [2758.58] Frank: oh dear is that it's like a class we're gonna have to bring in a uh mini air show oh please do [2764.9] Frank: i might win that you're gonna have to like have like uh geriatric x-class and then that's like just [2771.46] Tony: you well it looks like it's just gonna be me anyway i'll put out a uh a shout out the other [2778.34] Curry: day it was like you finally got a chance of winning a race at least i know we're gonna be [2782.74] Frank: you in it so anyone listening who has an x-class or has some parts for an x-class or is looking to [2788.66] Frank: build an x-class please be by maybe you know this better than i do tony may the 12th there you go [2796.74] Jack: i keep forgetting um yes all the days you haven't forgotten it's just all the days are blending into [2803.3] Frank: one mass panic and yeah well the thing is is because we've got like the the camping starting [2810.42] Frank: on the 10th and then assessing setting up happening on the 11th and then no no camping [2816.34] Frank: starting on the 9th sets up having on happening on the 10th and then the racing and everything [2821.22] Frank: happening on the 11th and the 12th and it's really days it'll be fine it'll be fine it puts [2827.7] Tony: gun in mouth i do need some x-class people to fly with yeah well what do you do for your birthday [2833.22] Frank: nj um are we clubbing up together and getting nj next class is that what you're saying jack [2839.86] NJ: because i think that would be fun i think nothing too huge i don't think i'm slightly suspicious [2849.62] NJ: that something might be organized um after 5000 yeah um but yeah not too much is on the uh on the [2862.42] NJ: agenda as it were i just working through mountains of reviews probably got an army of synne whoops [2867.94] NJ: here that uh need to get done so uh i have uh actually been sent by beta fpv a replacement [2875.3] NJ: for the one for anyone that caught my live stream where i did reveal the sad undoing of my last beta [2881.78] NJ: x 85 xhd which made its found its way under the wheel of a very fast moving tractor [2889.7] NJ: yes it was quite an amusing video i do i have been sent another one now so i will be uh that [2895.3] NJ: looks really nice oh yeah i've just printed a new canopy for it one of the problems with [2899.3] NJ: uh the original canopy was that you couldn't really angle the turtles too well on it [2903.54] NJ: um so i've uh printed a newer one which has a bit more room but um this flew so well on 4s i was [2912.18] NJ: i was this was my favorite little work until it got run over so uh version two we'll see are you [2918.34] Curry: going to be um taking their advice about only running it on freest now are you going to carry [2922.66] NJ: on the forest on it on 4s i i i mean i'll allude to in the uh in the review which is that i think [2929.94] NJ: part of the problem was the pits they provided i just think they were on on a [2933.86] NJ: a whip that's running i mean my biggest issue was they've got a whip running d shop [2938.26] NJ: 500 which is just completely bonkers i don't think it needs that at all um and running a protocol [2944.9] NJ: that fast um and then running d terms of that are up in the sort of mid 60s it's just it's asking [2952.42] NJ: for trouble on 4s with such high kv tiny motors and they're so the motors spin so fast that it's [2959.06] NJ: not something that you'd ever hear you can always hear that metallic ringing of a high d term on [2963.78] NJ: the five inch quad um quite easily you can use your ear to do that but it's less noticeable on [2970.66] NJ: a on a tiny work so i got my end tuned up on 4s with the pits me and mr shutterbug had a chat [2977.78] NJ: about pits and we both independently tuned ours 85x hds and we both ended up with pits that were [2984.18] NJ: around half of the ones that beta fpv shipped it with and i went back to them and said look i [2989.38] NJ: think your pits are too high and this is what smoking your ear sees um so i've gone straight [2994.1] NJ: onto 4s with it and again with my own numbers on it it's been flying great so i'm going to stick [2999.3] Curry: with 4s well hopefully they take note it was it was actually quite good to see uh beta fpv they [3005.22] Curry: put a blog post out about their investigation and i know a lot of companies are quite crap when it [3011.22] Curry: comes to people blowing quads up they're like oh yeah yeah it's it's it's nothing don't worry [3015.06] Curry: about it they put a load of quads through torture tests and managed to blow up a load and they they [3020.42] Curry: figured that some of them were dodgy ear sees and they blew up they had a whole box of 4s failures [3027.46] Curry: and then they had a bunch of 3s ones that didn't fail which is why they came onto the idea about [3032.58] Curry: it's 4s but it'd be really good if they could repeat that test trying something like your pits [3037.94] Curry: and see if they still had the same problem yeah i mean numbers mean things when it comes to testing [3043.3] NJ: like this it does and i've i kind of got a little bit disheartened when i mean face facebook groups [3050.5] NJ: you see all kinds of people in and you saw people just absolutely tearing them a new one i thought [3055.22] NJ: well hang on you've got companies like you know i'll say it but but run cam who go and we don't [3061.46] NJ: support the news that he sorry yeah but you know they sort of discreetly changed the lens [3066.82] NJ: behind people's backs to fix a problem uh and you know they really upset the community with a few [3072.02] NJ: shady moves and then you've got beta fbv who came out completely with their hands up and said look [3077.14] NJ: here's the problem if you've got if this has been a problem for you we'll totally honor fixing it [3081.78] NJ: here's all our research that we've done into why we think the problem exists we're going to write [3085.62] NJ: it for everyone it's completely the right way to do it and i think they should be applauded for that [3090.42] NJ: and as usual you still get people going at them and i i kind of think that's a bit uncool i think [3096.74] NJ: they deserve support for the fact that they've you know they've said we'll honor any you know [3100.74] NJ: if yours blew up because the csc fire if you had any it was still a small number of people who had [3104.58] NJ: the problem but if they did they said we'll send you a new sc we'll we'll we'll make it right and [3110.26] NJ: here's the research so that we we think we found the problem and we're going to fix it and move [3114.58] NJ: forward um so i think they're to be applauded for that for dealing with things that way um but [3120.1] NJ: i've i've chapped with um the chaps over there and i've uh chapped with nate and uh yeah i think [3128.02] NJ: that the pids are definitely something to do that i hope i have i've told them as much anyway so um [3134.02] NJ: we'll uh we'll see how things go i'll continue to run it on for us and you know i'll either eat my [3138.5] NJ: words or uh or not but nate and i have certainly been flying for us for quite a while on that [3143.86] NJ: quad without problems so i think it's fine i think the numbers just need to come down [3148.82] Tony: right there is a question in the chat for mako where uh from con concrete snail concrete snail [3162.1] Tony: good home where does mako stand on the rise of brushed whoops and racing because you don't fly [3169.06] Tony: brushed yet do you i fly both you fly both but you still kicking ass without flying brush [3177.06] Tony: yeah there's been a rise of brushless and a decrease in brushed right that's why i'm [3181.06] Mako: a little bit i fly brush like 65 millimeter brushed yeah but i have brushed list too i [3187.94] Mako: have the 75 brushes i actually really like flying this i've had um this one i have another one around [3194.42] Mako: here but i really like flying the 75 mil it's a lot of fun i feel like it lasts i don't know it [3200.74] Mako: just doesn't get the sag towards the end for some reason i don't know if the battery i use um oh [3206.82] Mako: gosh i wish i had i use like a 600 ma battery i wish i had it but a lot of people use like the 300 [3214.18] Curry: right oh yes what is that a 2s uh 600 or no 1s oh wow that's it feels quite heavy but it obviously [3224.42] Jack: works for you yeah it's brushless oh you've got like a little blanket on you i'm cool oh [3234.1] Frank: there is snow on the ground oh i didn't see that oh yeah that's quite a meaty looking [3239.62] Jack: not really uh there we go it's your face you've got to cover your face it face tracks you [3248.82] NJ: yeah so i use a pretty large battery here it's got to be it's funny it's one question i get asked [3255.14] NJ: um quite a lot on my channel is what batteries i'm using with various different works and i'll [3261.22] NJ: say the same thing to them as i'll say now it really doesn't matter i use a load of cheap [3265.62] NJ: batteries because 1s when you're pulling a decent amount of current from them and they're [3269.38] NJ: so small in capacity they're going to puff and die anyway and they're so cheap so just use them abuse [3275.38] Tony: them and throw them away jack's girlfriends what girlfriends [3284.5] Mako: no tiny who has their um brushless motors now so i'm really interested in making a 65 mil brushless [3292.02] Tony: you've also got a new is it is your little new frame going to come out do you think or is it just [3299.78] Mako: for you why i think it's just for me so um they this is the one they released or are releasing [3307.78] Mako: to the cat i think they're doing a contest right now where you and it might have ended i don't [3315.86] Mako: know but where you submit artwork and they'll print some of the frames for prizes bring that [3322.26] NJ: up onto a camera again we've got you presenting so we can get yeah look great oh so it's got like [3329.3] Mako: a little on it that's funny it's like a hydro bit print or something hmm yeah but yeah they put my [3338.58] Mako: logo on it was it's pretty awesome i can't wait to get it it's in the mail so oh so you got your [3343.78] Tony: one coming so it's going to be the same as that with your with your logo yeah and i'm not sure i [3350.34] Mako: like if i should fly it's too nice that that they may need just hanging on the wall yeah and i um [3356.5] Mako: fly who sent me these crazy gold bling i think i'm going to put them on it it's just [3364.58] NJ: something you should probably wear around your neck yeah [3366.82] Frank: yeah i know and what about um i've seen on your your instagram uh with your um 128th [3376.98] Mako: rc truck uh have you been driving that around a lot no not too much because we brought it to um [3385.3] Mako: the new york city thing the john festival and it got squished in the [3389.78] Mako: oh so it's a little i need some repair [3395.14] Mako: but maybe i'm hoping to like work on that a little bit because at the hobby shop we race at [3399.7] Mako: they do car races too so it might be fun to go down and try that out they don't do it fpv so i [3405.62] Mako: think if we walk in and do it fpv they'll give us funny looks but i think that's the way to go fpv [3412.34] Frank: more realistic my first fpv experience was a 136 lozy micro t with a 2.4 gigahertz um [3421.22] Frank: old security camera on it and yeah it's just great fun to just drive around the house i think [3426.34] Curry: the problem is on on like a racetrack is it can be too bumpy yeah you need to have the right [3432.18] Curry: combination of suspension and camera to to get it right yeah it's just gonna be like get a bit sick [3438.74] Jack: can't you get the jello balls does that not do anything or does that amplify quite a small [3446.74] Curry: guess it depends where you are if you're like an indoor sort of carpet track type thing which [3451.14] NJ: which could be a lot of fun what you need is some kind of three-axis gyro for the camera [3456.98] NJ: or the cheap way of doing that would just to be to build one big enough to hold a chicken [3461.86] NJ: and then you mount it to the chicken's head we want to see the video of the guy who moves the [3466.02] Tony: body of the chicken yeah i've noticed that by you mountain biking i wear a chest harness [3472.5] Tony: and it goes up and down but if i put it on my helmet the camera my hand works as a gimbal [3479.06] Frank: a video that i saw many many many years ago by i'm pretty sure it was uh a lexmus who did uh [3486.98] Frank: he built his own gyro kind of gimbal thing but it it was like the chicken he built it around [3494.26] Frank: the idea of the chicken so it had like a an arm that so it would stabilize not just in [3499.94] Frank: in direction but stabilize it up and down as well and it looks amazing and i think he just used it [3505.54] Frank: in one little video and then it never appeared again and um i really like one of those you just [3513.46] Curry: need the gopro seven now don't you sir it does work nicely people in the chat are saying that [3518.58] Curry: the same thing that's in my head i thought you needed an owl for proper bird gimbal type tracking [3524.02] Jack: but the chicken that you do on the cheek they're much easier to go than before the best fbv podcast [3530.74] Tony: we're talking about gimbal owls exactly you know it's on topic ish and it's inventive you've had a [3540.66] Frank: chicken in your in your flat jack we've talked about normal you're a chicken you're a grateful [3546.18] Jack: prick oh thanks what friends do what we need to do if you bought a chicken if someone bought you [3555.14] Jack: a chicken gaffer type of camera to it said clearly have you had to go i mean we had to go [3564.58] Frank: at the uk drone show uh maker have you had to go with a tiny wolver yet a what a tiny hoover [3572.42] Jack: tiny hoover hoover pulling into general uh gender stereotyping [3579.7] Mako: i don't know what that is so it's a little like uh hopper craft okay okay i do know what that is [3585.54] Mako: i just didn't know what they're called i haven't tried one they are crazy fun because we had um [3592.82] Mako: sort of i don't know what it's called it sort of looked like a wing and it had like a try a [3596.66] Tony: whoop in it yes that's that's and what's that one called i can't even remember i've seen something [3602.9] Tony: like that which like it's got a wing attached to it yeah i did i have actually fbv my hoover once [3612.34] Tony: i'm not even joking funny like you're saying fbv watch your control method surely it's your hand [3619.3] Frank: no comment is this is this related to your live streaming tony of all yes it was yeah [3626.58] Jack: it was i'm so tempted to buy a rumba and stick an fbv thing on it even though you'll have no [3632.82] Jack: control over it just make it around tony's house and make a big thing of it and be like tony i've [3639.06] Jack: made you a present remember yeah so you can sit there and like watch and like not have control over [3648.66] Jack: it that sounds like an excellent 24 7 live stream no it does yeah but it's not big enough to 24 [3655.46] Tony: hour hoover air i just want to quickly talk about mako and her father and what her dad did and where [3664.18] Tony: he was stationed and things like that because this is really because we know stuff for people [3669.38] Mako: we do yeah i'm sorry i guess for those of the people who don't know my my family we're an [3676.42] Mako: air force family my dad who's no longer with us was in the air force and he was a tech sergeant [3682.82] Mako: and he was a mechanic so he worked on planes and he worked on the sr-71 that was one of the planes [3688.58] Mako: he worked on which is a pretty famous plane it's known for being really fast like three times the [3695.54] Mako: speed of sound over 2 000 miles per hour the cia basically went to Lockheed Martin and asked them [3702.9] Mako: to create this crazy surveillance plane so that's what they came up with and they're about 30 made [3708.74] Mako: and i my my family was stationed at in california at vl air force base which is basically the home [3715.62] Mako: of the sr-71 so pretty much all 30 32 of them have been in and out of that air force base [3721.86] Mako: so my dad's probably climbed around on all of them but um he was a crew chief so he was in [3727.38] Mako: charge of basically all the mechanics and making sure the plane ran but the plane was incredible [3733.22] Mako: i went on my honeymoon to go see the actual plane that my dad worked on the most [3737.94] Mako: and got to touch it and everything it was really exciting but um that's cool yeah but we went to uh [3744.18] Mako: this is methodian museum in dc and we saw a ton of world war two planes and this the sr-71 was just [3752.5] Mako: huge in comparison i can't even describe how big it is um i don't even know how they got it [3758.26] Mako: in the museum like if they had to take off the roof it's or take it apart into pieces but i don't [3763.14] Mako: even it's humongous but um it's made of titanium and it's pretty loose fitting so what happened [3770.74] Mako: was when it wasn't flying it would leak fuel and my dad bathed in fuel i think at least once [3778.66] Mako: but um they would then when it would fly it would uh you know the speed and the heat it would expand [3784.34] Mako: and then it would fill those holes and it wouldn't leak anymore but um he went up in the [3790.18] Mako: couple times uh as a pilot and he had to wear a space suit because it's like 80 it goes up like [3796.18] Mako: 80 000 feet um but it flew a lot of hot missions they call them so and they don't know exactly [3804.82] Mako: where they're flying but my dad did know that um they would fly over Nicaragua Cuba and then [3812.02] Mako: we were stationed in Okinawa and that's where kind of the big big missions go out of and then also [3818.1] Mako: and um mildenhall how did you how do we pronounce it oh yeah that's in the UK yeah yeah so he was [3827.7] Mako: stationed there and they flew a bunch of hot missions out of there too um but he was also [3833.62] Mako: in Saudi Arabia he traveled a lot um due to his job yeah that's incredible i mean that that was [3841.22] NJ: absolutely one of my like childhood poster planes that i just absolutely obsessed over is it [3847.3] NJ: one of the sexiest looking planes in the world it's sort of the thing that nine-year-old you would [3852.9] NJ: would draw if someone said draw me a plane and you crossed it with your favorite spaceship [3857.22] NJ: and everything else i mean the technology considered it was designed in the 70s right [3862.5] NJ: was it late 60s early 70s it was yeah it came out like the 60s and the technology i mean even [3868.5] NJ: the way the nose cone retracted in and out of the engines to make sure that the air [3872.42] NJ: the air coming in it could it got such incredible speeds that the nose cones had to move in and out [3878.26] NJ: to be able to bring the speed of the air down to where it could actually combust it was just [3883.14] NJ: insane insane technology in this thing and so i read there was lots of reports of people saying [3889.22] NJ: well we've got the official speeds of this but there's actually it's it's theorized that this [3894.66] NJ: thing could go way faster than that but they never wanted to actually publicize just how fast [3899.38] NJ: this thing could go there's lots of rate uh atc stories of of people saying there's stuff we've [3905.62] NJ: seen move across a radar that we think might have been uh 71 but they've you know we officially [3911.78] NJ: weren't told but it was just ballistic and it probably was that on reconnaissance you know on [3917.06] Frank: the edge of space there is an absolutely excellent book on on the sl 71 and some similar [3924.42] Frank: ones that came out the skunk works so the book is skunk works by ben r rich and i absolutely highly [3931.7] Frank: recommend that and how they kind of trialed different fuels for the sl 71 and ended up [3937.14] Frank: almost blowing themselves up um all the talk about how like the the let you say the the cones in the [3943.3] Frank: engines that produce so much thrust through weird bits of maths and things but it's it's a great [3949.38] Frank: piece of kit and uh someone in the chat i will check who said it uh one who flew over his house [3958.74] Frank: oh it was mr fruity cakes again uh said uh there's an sl 71 at uh the imperial war museum [3966.02] Frank: uh american air museum at duxford um and i've seen that many times i think i've seen that [3972.74] Tony: actually now i'm thinking about it because i went to duxford and flew a tiger morph and i'm pretty [3976.82] Tony: sure that i did see it there now i'm thinking about it it was really big maker have you got any [3984.58] NJ: got any classified classified info can you tell us any secrets if i tell you i'll never kill you [3992.02] Mako: one of them more high club tail jack and then kill jack please tell jack and then kill jack yes [4001.78] NJ: yes that's his one that's one very cool dad and i know you imagine if i become a dad what did you [4007.86] Mako: do i cleaned windows for a living son it's kind of too bad in a way though because no i shouldn't [4014.42] Mako: say it that way it's it's unfortunate because i didn't realize growing up how like sick his job [4020.18] Mako: was until i was really old and then he passed away so i didn't really talk to him more about it [4025.62] Jack: i would have loved to get some dirt yeah cool i now understand that few things interesting [4033.86] Curry: because i remember seeing a good documentary about it because it sounds insanely dangerous [4037.3] Curry: but i remember that the engineer saying actually if something was on fire you could throw that [4041.94] Curry: sort of fuel over it to put the fire out because it was such non-combustible somehow that it was [4048.74] Curry: not considered dangerous that the fact that fuel just leaked out of it when it was on the ground [4052.66] Tony: like that that's crazy it expanded that much when it was going that fast yeah who did the [4058.9] Jack: maths for that i don't worry about the leaker to be five horses in the air can you imagine sending [4064.26] Jack: it to the machinist though are these your tolerances because you do realize it fits [4069.54] Jack: together like a soggy jigsaw puzzle when it's in the air it doesn't no when it's up at yeah [4077.62] Frank: hundred and something degrees it makes a difference it must have got quite warm [4082.98] Mako: yeah it was i guess like over a hundred degrees in fahrenheit in the cockpit yeah i think at certain [4090.74] NJ: speeds it was considerably higher it was like you know really getting the external the external [4097.46] NJ: surface was like over 600 yeah that got really really hot pretty insane i mean imagine being [4104.02] NJ: told what you're about to go and fly don't be concerned the thing you're getting into is about [4108.98] NJ: absolutely hemorrhage fuel but as soon as you get to this point in altitude it all glue itself [4114.58] NJ: together i'm sorry about the fact the nose is going to glow red hot that's cool too we've [4119.7] NJ: sussed all that i've done the math i mean it's just it's bonkers and we'd like you to go at the [4124.34] NJ: edge of space and then fly over you know russia or wherever they're very far you might have been [4130.1] Frank: russia it might not it's crazy yeah don't worry about the u2 that got shot down by a missile a [4135.62] NJ: few years ago like that won't happen again we promised well that plane was one of the famous [4142.82] NJ: stories about that from i can't remember who the uh the pilot was was saying that you know whenever [4147.54] NJ: they got a missile fired at them they just put the accelerators on you know cut the throttle all [4152.02] NJ: the way forward turned on the reheat and they just outpaced it you know see you later missile [4156.5] Mako: that fail to keep up that is i didn't tell you my dad actually worked on the u2 also nice [4168.18] Jack: that is that is a cool dad was he offended by that shitty band [4176.98] Jack: this plane doesn't deserve that bono [4180.1] Mako: um but it's crazy because the sr-71 would go up so high yet be able to take surveillance [4188.9] Mako: of like parking lot lines basically back in the 60s like how [4196.26] NJ: the lens on the camera that was was ridiculous wasn't it that was like one of the most expensive [4201.7] NJ: pieces of kit on the aircraft and it had this just insane zoom and as you say you could see [4208.02] NJ: you know read license plate numbers and you know from however high they were flying it's it's mad [4214.18] NJ: so your dad probably definitely met aliens [4220.74] NJ: flew all four corners of the earth atone yeah [4228.1] Frank: just finishing that this up um does anyone have any recommendations for more space films because [4233.3] Frank: i've i've recently got through all the lists i can think of so apollo 13 uh write stuff um [4241.14] Curry: last your first man um miles of text what about interstellar and gravity yeah i don't like them [4251.38] Tony: so much gravity you need to wear headphones or have a really good sound system interstellar is [4257.06] Curry: very much based on like uh physics the small nano stuff but and they did because they did the the [4264.74] Frank: black hole simulation as well didn't they um that like they did put a load of super computer time [4270.82] Frank: on simulating this black hole to do some weird science math stuff that we now know more about [4277.06] Frank: black holes because of that movie um which is weird um but there's also on [4286.66] Frank: on netflix there's a documentary called mercury 13 that i watched recently but kind of bringing [4292.5] Frank: this back to the the original theme of the show um it was about the 13 women who uh went through [4299.78] Frank: all the uh testing and training for the mercury program yes my parents said that was a [4306.18] Frank: only to watch that it was really good it is a really good documentary um but yeah it's uh [4312.58] Frank: watching that as well as watching the right stuff kind of puts a lot of things in perspective [4318.66] Frank: and i'm first one he's wrong about the earth being flat about many things jake about many things [4326.42] Curry: oh what's what's the one with the the the women being the computers at nasa on something yeah that [4333.06] Curry: that's a black woman wasn't it yeah but they're the computers before they were computers [4341.94] Curry: that's a good film something it's like i can't remember someone looking out come on chat where [4348.1] Curry: are you let's play dementia what was it called i'm the oldest i have a right to forget things [4355.94] Jack: red dwarf life space 1999 on figures hidden figures there you go there you go [4368.5] Jack: i was just testing you guys i'm not honest tune in next week to play another game of dementia [4379.22] Jack: you've been listening to let's drone out shall i end the show yes please you've been listening to [4386.18] Jack: let's show now you've enjoyed by andrew saffron bye they're not only wonderful beautiful and [4392.58] Jack: talented moco ria trot fine it's talking with you oh it's just so lovely so ready to hijack that [4400.74] Jack: goodbye i thought about it and the lovely sexy and talented but probably will get kicked out [4410.26] Jack: because of brexit because we're apparently new version of the windrush uh yeah bye everyone [4418.82] Jack: see you soon all right we love you you're an asset to our thing and i'll make sure frank feels in the [4424.98] Jack: appropriate paperwork to prove that you you've sponsored me to stay [4431.38] Jack: and if it all goes wrong you can either marry me or tony [4434.66] Jack: okay we enjoyed by my little tony for sure i think you'd rather be kicked out than [4450.34] Mako: i'll kind of whoop the rings down the aisle for you oh would you thanks [4454.98] Jack: oh [4465.54] Jack: i can't talk uh everyone's favorite cocaine goodbye and i've been bright until i fly thanks [4471.86] Jack: for tuning in guys and i really appreciate it fourth place thank all patreons jack come on [4481.86] Jack: i'd like to thank patreons anyone who sponsors um everyone that's tuned in just a few booboo ben [4490.42] Tony: swiney did you know colors klai first person great story richard warrick [4500.18] Tony: falling with style what's up i'm going riding sunday if you want to come mr free [4504.42] Jack: shakes give a dollar onto our patreon we'll make you a mod because i'd love to see your comments [4510.5] Tony: green practice tribal fbv some of the girls [4520.26] Tony: for his lovely donation thank you very much thank you and good night peace bye bye [4528.82] UNKNOWN: who can say the last word me telemetry lost
