[807.33] AndyRC: it is it's more than kiss i've ever managed it's the power distribution board it's got a built-in
[812.45] AndyRC: on-screen display um and it's got a five volt regulator and so it's kind of strange

[830.21] AndyRC: but of course i need to do all of the um there are there are some hoops that you have to jump through
[836.21] AndyRC: in order to because they're non-kiss csc's kiss uses a serial base system so to need to to get
[845.41] AndyRC: you can't do a pass through to like bl halle because the serial system blocks it so you have
[853.01] AndyRC: to use this little circuit board thing and yeah it's quite complicated so but it's all that that's
[859.57] AndyRC: actually stopped me flying it and i wanted to make sure that um i got all that down before i
[866.13] AndyRC: actually flew it because there's a chance that i could fly it and it just smashes ups and i can't
[872.37] AndyRC: and what i want to do is explain all of the things that you have to do um because because like
[878.21] AndyRC: with kiss it's weird because it stands for keep it super simple and the software bit is just
[885.17] Curry: that as simple as it stands for i think you find it stands for keep it simple stupid
[891.17] Curry: is it well yeah that's what i thought i thought well controversy i like the fact that an acronym

[927.73] AndyRC: at is the the hardware part of it it couldn't be any more you know it's the most difficult thing
[934.93] AndyRC: ever it's the software that's simple um but it's the whole serial system the whole closed
[942.69] AndyRC: source of it that is actually the limitation in making the hardware bit simple so if you
[949.33] AndyRC: want to use non-kiss ESCs with a kiss board then you have to disconnect the signal wire
[956.85] AndyRC: because uh otherwise that it's looking for a serial number to for the pass-through to work
[963.65] AndyRC: to get to bl halle sweet so um anyways yeah that's that's my dream thing that i've got going
[970.29] AndyRC: on but i couldn't fly it because i i need to do all of the i was actually just before we started
[975.81] AndyRC: the show in the middle of filming how to do the on-screen display because the on the the kiss
[982.69] AndyRC: on-screen display is awesome and telemetry is awesome as well um like you know you get your
[988.69] AndyRC: you could get your temperature even even on non-kiss ESCs if they are telemetry capable
[994.37] AndyRC: you can get your rpm you can get your temperature you can get your amps of each
[1000.45] Jack: individual ESC if you want to go that far i'm really excited is if you do manage to damage a
[1010.29] Jack: um damage a motor or or an ESC i'm wondering if it would show you a lower rpm or something
[1019.41] AndyRC: well you could troubleshoot easier because uh it's funny you mentioned that because um
[1026.93] AndyRC: with a particular hglrc stack so um i think it was called the f440 something like that
[1036.29] AndyRC: it had got ESC uh temperature telemetry and i could actually see and i i put a um
[1046.13] AndyRC: a motor and a prop on actually no i was running 5s when i shouldn't have been and um the the
[1052.85] AndyRC: temperature on the ESCs uh shot up to like 120 degrees but because they were 32-bit ESCs they've
[1061.97] AndyRC: got like a cutoff yeah over current protection yeah exactly so it fell out of the sky but then
[1069.33] AndyRC: when i went back and watched the on-screen display i could see that that information yeah you can see
[1075.57] AndyRC: whether whether an ESC is failing because like let's just say you've got three ESCs that are
[1082.21] AndyRC: running at 45 degrees c but 120 you can say something's not right there we can like use i
[1092.29] SPEAKER_04: want to know can we can we use the rpm thing to uh feedback and have um some uh force feedback
[1103.57] SPEAKER_04: i mean i want force feedback hotas to fly something just for them to happen it always
[1110.53] AndyRC: comes back to the force feet what through the sticks like yeah like on the microsoft
[1115.57] AndyRC: side wind there yes exactly that uh very i don't know the the rpm thing's interesting because i
[1123.73] AndyRC: thought it was actually rpm but it's not it can't be um it has to be something called erpm um and
[1133.49] AndyRC: that is because um all motors have a different number of magnets or holes holes yeah so some
[1144.05] AndyRC: magnets have like the ones that tile your bathroom yeah yeah so what you should be making that joke
[1154.85] AndyRC: so yeah what you have to do to get the actual rpm of the motor is you have to do a little bit of
[1160.21] AndyRC: maths i think you take i can't remember off the top of my head but you can count the number of
[1165.65] AndyRC: poles that you've got in your motor by just you know the the the gaps between them if your
[1171.73] AndyRC: magnets are strong enough then that'll or you can take the bow off and count how many magnets you've
[1177.73] AndyRC: got i think i think like most motors have about 14 so um you have to do some maths with the number
[1186.85] AndyRC: to get the true rpm of the motor and because so so that so erpms like the standard but it's
[1193.65] AndyRC: not the actual rpm you have to do a bit of calculation so i don't know maybe a bit of
[1199.49] AndyRC: software could come out uh as part of beta flight or well probably not kiss because that that'd make
[1205.97] AndyRC: it not simple wouldn't it where where you could enter the number of poles into uh into the
[1214.21] AndyRC: software and then it works out properly for you i think they're i think they're working on that or
[1219.09] AndyRC: or there's there's some sort of hack or something like that where you where you can do that in a
[1223.49] AndyRC: command line but uh yeah getting our exact rpms kind of tricky because of the all of the different
[1232.29] Jack: styles sizes of motors and things like that i can't get over the music library that's grown for
[1240.05] Jack: um for the music of eses and motors like you know yeah unbelievable there's even like undertale
[1250.37] AndyRC: songs and everything like isn't there a specific channel where like yeah that makes them and you
[1256.77] Jack: can like request stuff and yeah each motor is doing a different instrument and stuff like that
[1262.93] AndyRC: one crazy i just can't believe i just can't believe with the kiss the two-bit eses that
[1270.13] AndyRC: they actually talk to you so i know i plug them in and it says uh kiss esc d shot 1200
[1279.33] AndyRC: like it actually tells me what the settings are why not yeah yeah and people are always like what
[1286.69] AndyRC: what was that your cup did it just talk to you how did it do that and to try and explain that
[1292.21] AndyRC: it's actually the motors twitching at a particular frequency and then it resonates through the frame
[1300.13] AndyRC: in order to to do it it's yeah it's kind of it's almost kind of like uh the way a record player
[1306.61] Curry: works in a way isn't it i suppose music like motors is a bit like making music with old disc drives
[1313.01] AndyRC: you have a big rack of them yeah it's still good though i like it earlier i was licking

[1849.12] AndyRC: of the thing that didn't turn off like i got and i got asked that thing but of course then
