[0.0] Jack: Hey guys, it's Jack here. Big massive shout out to our Patreons. So these guys are the guys who
[9.12] Jack: donate for the editing and they really do make a huge difference to keep the show alive.
[17.12] Jack: We've been sponsored by Art Faulkner, Ferdy Evers, Mikey Dread and Under Fluke.
[23.2] Jack: These guys are absolute legends. Thank you so much and see you next show.
[29.44] Jack: Let's drone out now. Right, hello and welcome to another wonderful episode of Let's Drone Out.
[64.54] Jack: Tonight you're joined by Andrew Sashfrank. Hello.
[69.42] Jack: Um, our tricopter overlord. Oh, hello. I thought you were going to start speaking Italian now.
[76.38] Windestål: No, no, no, no, I don't know. I don't know any Italian. Pasta is pretty darn good in my vocabulary.
[84.38] Windestål: Tell you who you are. You're supposed to say who he is.
[89.98] Windestål: He needs no introduction. Oh yeah, yeah, I'm David. Hi.
[93.74] Windestål: David with the storm. I was supposed to say my name. Okay.
[99.66] Jack: Oh, Windows Seal. If you're American, I'm going to say Carne and I'm calling you.
[106.62] Jack: Anyway, moving on from now, I'm really sorry. There's a lot of eating chips in the corner of
[110.62] AndyRC: my screen. I don't know who that is, but it's just clearly committed to this show.
[115.98] Jack: Yep. Our sexy overlord, N.J. Tech.
[119.42] Jack: Evening, everyone. My little tonestar.
[124.54] Jack: For sure.
[127.74] Jack: He dressed himself, ladies and gentlemen, and everyone's favourite curry kin.
[134.54] Curry: Hello, and I just have to say that, of course, any views expressed by any guests on the show
[138.62] Curry: or personal may not reflect the views of hosts or any participant on the show. Also,
[142.46] Curry: the hosts aren't listed. Shouldn't be listened to either. Ignore all of us. It's just a big joke.
[147.1] NJ: Thank you. Yeah, I'm trying not to get out of the time.
[151.18] NJ: How did you think it's getting better every time?
[153.66] AndyRC: David's like, what did you guys do? I keep thinking there's a little loophole,
[157.58] Curry: and we just need to plug them every so often, just in case somebody takes something,
[161.82] Windestål: what we say, to be serious. Oh, wow. That would be bad.
[165.5] Curry: Yeah, exactly. Yeah, we nearly got sued.
[168.94] Jack: You have no list. Moving on.
[171.42] Frank: David, thank you for coming on. We've missed you all from the RC scene for a bit because you went
[177.82] Frank: off making knives and things, and then you went fossil hunting or meteor hunting or something,
[184.14] Frank: and then you've been making lots of things that aren't RC.
[188.78] Windestål: Correct. Yeah, I've been in Italy to make a knife, which is called a maker knife.
[198.3] Windestål: Should I have one here? It's a little pocket tool that uses the changeable...
[206.22] Windestål: Stanley blade. Yes, correct.
[209.5] Windestål: If you want the brand. Exactly. That's like a... What do you call it? A carpentry blade,
[217.58] Windestål: the exacto... It's just a replaceable blade.
[222.94] Windestål: And what do the Yanks call it? A utility knife.
[227.34] Windestål: Yes, utility blade. Basically, all these things
[228.94] Jack: box cutters, don't they? No, this is a box cutter.
[232.38] Jack: Hang on. Yeah, utility knife blade.
[236.06] Curry: That's a box cutter. The blade looks the same from here, but okay.
[242.43] Curry: That one breaks off, right? Yeah, it's got a snappable bit.
[246.99] Curry: That one's better for shiving. This one's better for modeling.
[249.95] Windestål: Exactly. I like it. Yeah, that's good. I'm so glad I bought a bullet proof vest,
[254.51] Windestål: by the way. Step proof vest. So yeah, I've been doing that in Italy with my friend Giacomo.
[264.27] Jack: Your other friend, Jack. No, you neglect me.
[267.63] Jack: I'll bet he's better than this, Jack. Well, he probably smells better.
[271.87] Windestål: Yeah, actually. Okay, anyway.
[279.23] Windestål: So I spent a lot of time in Italy doing that and working on new projects. It's pretty nice.
[286.99] Windestål: It's not such a bad deal to be in the sun. And anyway, so yeah, I did a video on making
[296.19] Windestål: a meteorite ring, which I posted very recently. I shot it quite a while ago, but it went good.
[309.23] Windestål: What was it? 3.3 million views? I just wondered if you got any negative feedback on that from the
[315.55] Curry: point of like, don't cut up a meteor. That's important scientific stuff. Or was it all
[319.55] Curry: cool? Because it was really cool to watch you cut it and stuff.
[322.83] Windestål: Yeah, I got some comments like that, but not too bad because I kind of increase the value of it
[333.15] Windestål: by making it into a ring, luckily. And there is a ton of that material. So it's very well studied.
[343.95] Windestål: It's not going to run out anytime soon. It's fine.
[348.03] Tony: So it's a bit of stuff that's fallen off the dome then, just down into the earth.
[353.87] Jack: It could have been worse. It could have just come out with, it's just a rock.
[359.23] AndyRC: It's a bit of the lighting stuff. Oh, it's back on Truman Show again.
[367.31] Windestål: But yeah, I mean, I stopped reading the comments after the first thousand-ish because man,
[374.35] Windestål: people are, I don't know, okay. I'm not saying retarded, but they are.
[381.07] AndyRC: You called me that once. That's exactly what you just said.
[385.39] Windestål: No, no, no. I didn't say that. What about differently?
[390.35] Jack: Exactly. Tony.
[391.47] Jack: What about Tony?
[394.99] Windestål: No. Yes. I mean, people on YouTube, man.
[401.95] AndyRC: Isn't it just weird how a video like that, like you can't obviously,
[407.63] AndyRC: it could have had 3.4 million views or it could have had a few thousand. It's just like,
[412.75] AndyRC: what is the formula to interest people?
[416.51] Jack: Well, you made something interesting. Good. I think that's the idea.
[420.03] AndyRC: Yeah, but loads of people do that.
[422.27] AndyRC: Loads of people do. I think maybe the YouTube algorithm was in favor of you that day or
[428.35] AndyRC: something. I mean, it's a fantastic video. There's nothing, you know, that's not in question.
[434.43] AndyRC: It's just like, I mean, I bet you, did you expect it to explode like that?
[441.23] Windestål: Not 3.4. I was thinking a million over a month.
[446.19] Windestål: Wow.
[446.51] Windestål: Kind of felt like that scope. But you should have gone.
[453.39] Jack: Sorry. You should have at the end of it been like, you do not have gone to space.
[458.91] AndyRC: I think that does that video have less views. It should be the other way around.
[465.63] AndyRC: That was an insane video. I love that one. One of my favorites.
[469.71] Jack: Sorry, Dave, for cutting you off.
[471.55] Windestål: I can't even remember what I was supposed to say. It's fine.
[476.51] Windestål: Let's see. 2.4 on the space video. 3.8 on the RC tank battle. So that's my best one. It's crazy.
[486.99] Curry: Is that the follow up one where they all sort of morphed into different tanks?
[490.43] Windestål: No, this is the OG one.
[494.11] Curry: I like that one. Is that the one where the tank wasn't expected to explode quite as much as it
[498.67] Curry: did? Yes. You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off, that sort of thing.
[505.23] Windestål: Exactly.
[507.55] Jack: Are you feeling any better? Do you no longer feel the need to blow stuff up
[514.03] Jack: because you're in a climate where there is actually daylight?
[518.19] Windestål: No. It doesn't work like that, Jack.
[523.39] Windestål: That's how I imagine it.
[527.07] Windestål: It's getting harder and harder to get a hold of fireworks in Sweden. It's both good and bad
[534.03] Windestål: because I have a dog. I don't like fireworks, but I like exploding fireworks.
[541.31] Jack: Is it really Sweden or is it just because your name's actually made it on some sort of list now?
[551.15] Curry: There's a little picture of you in every shop that sells explosives. Do not sell to this man.
[556.51] Windestål: Actually, I get a discount for real at the place where I buy it.
[563.07] NJ: Do I never learn? When you say shop that sells explosives, is that a trade?
[569.63] Curry: I think I see you just nipped across to Syria occasionally and picks up a paradise store.
[577.39] Windestål: Yeah, there's pyrotechnic shops, but usually it's like during New Year's, even the local
[587.47] Windestål: supermarkets carry it sometimes so you can get a hold of, but that's cheap stuff, but still,
[594.43] Windestål: it makes a bang.
[597.47] Jack: There's one at the top of Dyke Road in Brighton that sells fireworks all year round.
[603.39] Windestål: You don't have to have pyramids and stuff, right?
[606.19] Curry: No, not in England. There's one close to me, which is all year round fireworks.
[611.39] Windestål: Really?
[614.67] Windestål: Maybe I'll go there and do stuff. That'd be sweet.
[618.83] Jack: Well, you can't Brexit to keep terrorists on you, you big, beardy, weirdo.
[624.43] Windestål: I had to work so hard.
[630.51] Windestål: I had to work so hard on getting, I made some meteorite rings to sell.
[636.51] Windestål: I had to work really fast. I'm like, Brexit, Brexit?
[640.51] Windestål: I was like, oh, it's this Friday, and maybe it's hard Brexit.
[647.55] Windestål: It was very stressful. I can tell you that. I got it out on Thursday.
[653.23] Jack: You've been to England and it's a silly place. You had nothing to worry about.
[659.87] Jack: You've seen the show. This is based in England. We don't get anything done.
[663.23] Jack: It weren't for Frank.
[666.51] Windestål: Yeah, poor Frank.
[670.11] Windestål: Yeah, I don't know, man. I think I'm on some kind of list because I always get
[676.27] Windestål: randomly selected at airports.
[680.27] Windestål: You and me both, brother.
[681.47] NJ: Oh, really?
[683.47] NJ: What did you do?
[684.35] NJ: I wouldn't have nothing to do with cocaine on the show a lot.
[690.27] NJ: No, no, it's just this is not apparently the best look for international travel.
[696.27] NJ: Because you're not white enough.
[697.95] Windestål: You just go with a scorecard with different colors.
[705.47] Jack: I apologize for my people, Enjo.
[709.31] NJ: What can you do? It's just one of those things.
[713.47] NJ: I must ask, David, because I cannot contain my excitement. I am going to move you on to
[719.39] NJ: the news about your tricopter. Let's move to RC. What an hour.
[723.63] Curry: In the DLG.
[728.35] Curry: Before you go to the tricopter, because I got my one down from the wall,
[732.19] Curry: and I haven't had it out for a while. I've got to say, the original tricopter 2.5
[736.83] Curry: is like the original X-Class. It is so big. I can't believe it.
[741.47] Curry: That's crazy.
[741.95] Curry: I'm going to see what the new one looks like that flies for an hour.
[744.19] Curry: Because this, in its best day, flies for about 15 minutes.
[748.27] Windestål: What is it?
[748.59] Windestål: On a 3S, the 2200 or?
[751.31] Curry: No, that's on about 1,000 3S.
[755.87] Curry: It's possibly overloaded. Maybe a 3300 is the best point for it.
[762.11] Windestål: Good old DT750s.
[764.51] Curry: Still got the DT750 on it. It's still got a K-COT on it. I desperately need to go back
[769.47] Curry: and update it. To be fair, it does fly like a dog. I can't remember if it used to fly nicely
[774.67] Curry: or I just used to think it used to fly nicely because I wasn't used to a more smoothy flight
[780.59] Curry: controller.
[781.15] Jack: Is it on Stevie's?
[783.23] Jack: What is?
[783.95] Jack: Stevie's?
[785.87] Windestål: Stevie's firmware?
[786.91] Windestål: Yeah. It's the good stuff.
[789.63] Curry: No, that might help.
[792.19] Curry: I think new flight controller and new everything.
[794.35] Jack: But no, you can't erase history.
[798.27] Windestål: Yeah, exactly.
[799.31] Frank: Jack with KK2. He must want to build something with it.
[804.51] Frank: I gave mine away.
[806.83] Frank: Do you regret it?
[807.63] Jack: I've got a couple around.
[808.91] Curry: They're a bit big though, aren't they?
[810.83] Curry: Yeah, they're mini ones.
[812.51] Curry: Tell us about the new tricopter, David, because this is what we're all about.
[816.75] Windestål: To be honest, it was designed in two days and it was because I missed flying long range.
[827.95] Windestål: I basically wanted something that was easy to transport and kind of flew like the old
[835.71] Windestål: tricopters, like the big ones that was just nice and swooshy and very soft flying.
[844.99] Windestål: As you can see, the size of it is a lot smaller, but it still swings eight-inch props.
[851.95] NJ: What are you on, like 900 kV, somewhere around there?
[854.83] Windestål: Actually, it's 1600 kV.
[857.39] Windestål: Oh, wow. On eight-inch props.
[859.47] NJ: Okay, so that's...
[860.43] Windestål: Yes, so you fly it on 3S.
[862.35] Windestål: Fly it for...
[863.07] Windestål: Oh, okay, 3S.
[864.67] Windestål: Exactly. Oh, that's the good stuff. I was just been waiting for this to happen.
[870.03] Windestål: Mini-quads going to 6S was like the thing I was waiting for because that meant
[879.63] Windestål: motor manufacturers lowered the kV and made low kV motors really efficient and very well-balanced,
[887.55] Windestål: good quality stuff. Because before, it was all kind of like bad quality.
[894.75] NJ: Don't you miss putting bits of tape on the side of your motors and using a laser to balance them?
[899.55] NJ: Oh, man.
[900.55] Curry: Those were the laser?
[902.27] Curry: What? You just put tape on them and listen to the noise, didn't you? Surely.
[907.55] Windestål: Oh, and the bearings were so bad. Everything was just bad.
[911.47] Jack: Oh, man. I had to bang bearings out of my old lumineers.
[915.87] Windestål: That's not even... That's like a couple of years ago. That's like recent.
[924.75] Windestål: It's super nice because then, I mean, it's made for 6S on five-inch.
[931.63] Windestål: So if you drop it down and do 3S, you can do eight-inch very efficiently.
[937.79] Windestål: But the efficiency on these motors are really high. It's really good.
[942.19] NJ: And those motors are? Which motors?
[944.19] Windestål: E-Max RS2? Yeah.
[951.87] NJ: Yeah, same ones I'm running on my six-inch. And that is, again, on bi-blade, same thing.
[957.07] NJ: So efficient. They're brilliant. I mean, I'm getting sort of eight minutes of flight out of
[960.91] NJ: a 1500 4S on that. It's crazy. Really good.
[964.67] NJ: Mental, you must get bored. Your legs hurt.
[967.15] Windestål: Yeah, you sit down usually. It's really nice sitting in the car doing long range.
[975.79] Windestål: It's very relaxing. You listen to audiobooks and...
[980.75] Jack: Harry Potter.
[982.51] Windestål: Of course. But yeah, I like it because the carbon frames, like the design of that,
[992.75] Windestål: or like the materials we have access to and like the idea of the normal quad frames.
[1000.99] Windestål: It's so lightweight. It's like making a frame like this. It's five millimeter thick
[1008.35] Windestål: solid carbon fiber booms or arms. And the whole thing, empty frame weight is 112 grams.
[1017.07] Windestål: So, I mean, it's compared to the old tricopter, which is almost twice as heavy as this. And that
[1024.91] Windestål: was a light frame when that came out, the tricopter V4.
[1030.03] Curry: I think mine's 1800 grams, once I put a battery on it.
[1033.63] Windestål: Nice.
[1036.51] Windestål: Oh my God.
[1036.99] NJ: So obviously, that's nice and efficient in transitional lift as well. So what's your
[1042.67] NJ: kind of flight time now with that one? What's the max you've got out of it on that setup?
[1048.27] Windestål: So I flew these old multi-star 5200 3S 10C. Yeah, 10C batteries, around two of those.
[1061.15] Windestål: So 10,400 milliamps and I got one hour and eight minutes.
[1068.27] Windestål: Whoa. It was pretty. Yeah, it's pretty decent.
[1072.11] Curry: That's awesome. And are they okay lifting like, you know, 10,000 milliamps?
[1077.79] Curry: Yeah, it's a...
[1078.83] Curry: No struggle. It's just cruising around. It's fine.
[1081.71] Windestål: It's yeah, I mean, you're not going to actually, you can't do flips and rolls in that, but it's
[1087.31] Windestål: calm stuff. It's not the crazy five inch stuff. It's more cruising. Yeah. It still weighs just
[1096.03] Windestål: under a kilo with that battery, those two batteries on it, which is amazing, I have to say.
[1103.71] NJ: Yeah, that's incredible. And how's the, on this new one, how's the kind of eternal battle with
[1111.07] NJ: PIDs that you have with tricopters? How's this one flying in that regard?
[1115.23] Windestål: A little bit better. Larger, it's more forgiving because it takes more time to do things.
[1121.95] Windestål: And the inertia of the tail moving is, it's an issue because you tilt the motor,
[1128.99] Windestål: which means that you're moving mass. So you're always, when you tilt it to one side, the
[1139.71] Windestål: quick movement pushes the tail in the opposite direction that you want it to be pushed.
[1146.99] Windestål: Sure. So you move this, the mass left. That means it pushes it to the right, but then the
[1154.27] Windestål: thrust pushes it to the left again. So you get an interaction of gyroscopic
[1159.87] NJ: force as well, right? There has to be exactly. Yeah.
[1164.19] NJ: Got you. So do you think that it's, I mean, from my knowledge of tricopters,
[1170.91] NJ: have you found the faster tail servos to be better or is it more about just brute force?
[1177.31] Windestål: It's a little bit both. You can get into trouble having too fast servos.
[1183.39] NJ: Oscillation problems.
[1185.23] Windestål: Yes. Because you flip the mass back and forth very quickly. Then that gets back to the flight
[1192.35] Windestål: controller and it corrects it. So it always like jumps back and forth and you have to add filters.
[1200.35] Windestål: And then you're back to basically the same speed as you're adding the latency.
[1206.83] Windestål: Exactly. And it just feels the same at that point. And high speed servos, having
[1214.67] Windestål: a different gear ratio inside of the servos usually makes them more prone to breaking during a crash.
[1223.55] Windestål: Right. So yeah, lower speed servos usually lasts longer.
[1230.59] NJ: Or plastic?
[1231.95] Windestål: It's all metal gear. It's a stainless steel output shaft, which is my own design.
[1241.15] Windestål: Nice.
[1242.19] Windestål: It's a Bluebird servo, a BMS 210, DMADH, I mean. So my version has a feedback servo wire. So
[1256.03] Windestål: you give a fourth wire that goes into the flight controller,
[1261.23] Windestål: which tells it at what angle the servo is at all time.
[1267.79] Windestål: Right. That's cool.
[1269.15] Windestål: So it can do math. And instead of like doing a virtual servo model, because it needs to know
[1279.23] Windestål: or guess where the tail is before doing a new command to it, because you send a command,
[1286.03] Windestål: go to the right. It takes time for the servo to move. And if you send the command to go to
[1292.27] Windestål: the opposite direction, you don't know what angle you're already at. And you can be a lot more
[1296.99] Windestål: efficient by knowing, OK, I'm at this angle. So I know I can just slow down and stop earlier
[1303.47] Windestål: instead of kicking it all the way to the other side and stuff like that.
[1308.03] Windestål: And it also helps a ton with setting it up.
[1311.55] NJ: That's brilliant. That's just awesome information for the loop to get you a more accurate result.
[1317.07] NJ: Brilliant. So is this part of is this custom code? Is it your custom code or code you're involved
[1323.71] Windestål: with? I cannot code that well. This is the forums, the RC Explorer forums. There are some crazy
[1335.31] Windestål: intelligent people. They're very gifted that do this because they like it.
[1342.59] Windestål: And it's it is a challenge because nothing else uses servos because it is a I'm going to say it's
[1351.68] Windestål: an inferior technique to do yaw when it comes to like it's it's dirty. It's gritty. It's
[1362.24] Windestål: ah, it is analog instead of everything being digital.
[1367.04] Curry: But I think that's where the purists will say, well, analog is better in some things.
[1372.96] Curry: The turn on a try for people that have just flown quads is completely different. It doesn't it's not
[1378.08] Curry: it's not your ring. It's going into a lovely sort of bank arc a bit like it's similar. It's more
[1384.64] Curry: similar to when you go into a a turn. Exactly. It is. It feels like a plane.
[1391.76] Windestål: Like if you fly it really fast forward, you level off on a quad. If you input yaw, you just look.
[1400.16] Windestål: It just literally just turns continues straight. So you turn it and you can look in a different
[1405.6] Windestål: direction. It keeps traveling. If you do that on a tricopter, it's going to like just like dive
[1411.92] Windestål: down the nose and kind of like do a coordinated turn. Sort of like rudder input on a plane then.
[1418.96] NJ: That's really interesting. But of course, you do have quite a lot from my experience,
[1424.24] NJ: you do have quite a lot more yaw authority when you want it in terms of fast turning than you would
[1430.16] NJ: with torque differential. As you do on a traditional quad, you've actually got something
[1434.08] NJ: thrusting in the direction so you can sort of pan to the other side very fast if you want to.
[1441.2] Windestål: You can, yeah. Mini-quads have become really good at that because they use
[1447.36] Windestål: very high RPM and the braking on the ESCs today is so fast because that didn't used to be a thing.
[1456.32] Windestål: So now you can vary the RPM very quickly to get the yaw speed so you kind of get enough
[1464.64] Windestål: yaw speed with the five inch quads or six inch even. Because way back in the day when
[1472.24] Windestål: tricopters were superior was when we had 10 inch quads that couldn't yaw like at all.
[1481.36] Windestål: There were pretty horrible times because it was low RPMs and it was slow fly props. Everything
[1489.04] Windestål: was just flying a sponge. It was fantastic. 50 hertz update rate, not 32 kilohertz, not.
[1499.52] Windestål: 50 hertz is how I like to watch my TV. Now leave me alone.
[1509.04] Windestål: I mean, it was possible to fly like that. You just made the copter larger and the tricopter
[1515.04] Windestål: was so nice because you could whip it. Large prop, same RPM. You keep the RPM. You don't do
[1522.56] Windestål: anything changing the motor speed. You just tilt that back motor and it does the yaw.
[1530.56] Windestål: And keeping the RPM is the key there because it was like quads were just freaking out when you
[1537.68] Windestål: tried to do fast yaws because you lost half of the lift doing that. It was bad. Frames were not
[1548.48] Windestål: that stiff either. So it was just following airplanes and everything. The tricopter was king
[1557.36] Windestål: for sure. But now it's kind of it is outdated tech for sure, but it's so nice flying it. It's
[1567.44] Windestål: just it is like flying a plane that you can hover kind of a thing. I want one. Oh, thank you Tony.
[1578.24] Tony: And he's asked David what's the difference in the flight compared to a stanza though
[1586.16] Windestål: without that feedback? But the difference is between having a feedback and non-feedback
[1593.92] Windestål: servo. It just makes the algorithm so much more efficient where you can have it
[1603.04] Windestål: kind of predict what it needs to do instead of just sending a command. Move to this position.
[1612.56] Windestål: You just send 1500 microseconds or 2000 microseconds that moves it that way. You don't
[1619.28] Windestål: know if the servo has actually moved all the way over or not. But you can know that with the
[1625.76] Windestål: feedback servo and compensate for it. So instead of going all the way back and moving back and
[1631.36] Windestål: forth and just guessing, it kind of knows, okay, this angle, I'm going to produce this much thrust
[1638.24] Windestål: or this much jaw authority. So you can kind of gauge that beforehand and use that in the algorithm
[1646.32] AndyRC: instead of just blindly doing stuff. David, so the fly controller before was an F3. This time it's
[1656.56] AndyRC: the Kukute F4 from Holy Bro. Have I got that right? Yeah. Yeah. So if I remember correctly
[1665.92] AndyRC: from the F3, you had a specific pad for that feedback for the servo. Is that the case with
[1672.96] AndyRC: the F4 and have you had to remap that pad or something? Is it tri-fly that you're using with
[1681.76] Windestål: it for the BSI version? No. Okay. The Kukute has a RSS iPad. So just push it there. It's an analog
[1694.08] Windestål: input. On most processors in the STM family, you can just remap to analog input. So you can steal
[1706.96] Windestål: an RSI pad, which is already an analog one, or in the case of a bicopter, you can steal
[1717.52] Windestål: an RX pin on a UART and use that for the second feedback, but still keep the TX on that UART
[1726.72] Windestål: to do telemetry and that. So you kind of still don't lose it. Man, I can't remember what I
[1736.94] AndyRC: was talking about. No, it's probably because I threw like about five questions away at the
[1741.98] Jack: same time. If you log in to LDO, hopefully the buffer and the playback, you'll be able to catch
[1748.7] AndyRC: it. I think one of the other questions I asked was, is there like a special version of tri-fly
[1758.46] AndyRC: through B to fly for the Kukute F4 because before it was based on the RCX? Well, not just that,
[1765.98] AndyRC: but the RC Explorer F3 board, which had its own custom B to flight firmware. Yeah,
[1774.54] Windestål: that was a modified firmware of B to flight that we called tri-flight because it had all the tail
[1781.74] Windestål: setup stuff and the feedback servo support and all that. We don't do the B to flight anymore.
[1791.5] Windestål: We're using D Ronin. It's very interesting. It doesn't
[1800.46] Windestål: move on as quickly as B to flight does. Keeping up with B to flight releases is not easy.
[1808.94] Windestål: We don't have the manpower to do that. The changes in B to flight and that, it doesn't
[1817.66] Windestål: impact the tricopter as much as you would think because it's mainly made for quads. Of course,
[1829.34] Windestål: stuff is good for the tricopters, but yeah. He's such a liar. It's because he had an auto tune.
[1836.86] Windestål: He can't be dealing with... Oh, I love it. It's so nice. Yeah, Dronin has an auto tune feature,
[1844.22] Windestål: so you... Don't listen to him, kids. Oh, it's fantastic. You put your copter out on the ground
[1849.74] Windestål: and flip it, your arm it, take it off, flip it into a mode and it goes...
[1857.34] Windestål: And then it does that for like 30 seconds and then all the pills are good. It's pretty nice.
[1863.18] AndyRC: You kind of had that in B to flight though, didn't you? You at least had the tail tune
[1868.54] AndyRC: option. So, it's taken it that one step further than what tri-flight had them, basically.
[1874.94] Windestål: We still have the tri-flight setup in there as well. So, you can do the... There is a step where
[1885.34] Windestål: you in flight... Or first of all, you want to set up the tail so you have 40 degrees of deflection
[1892.54] Windestål: each way. And you do that by going into the servo calibration mode, which we call it now,
[1900.78] Windestål: it was tri-flight setup before. And you move it with the stick. So, it goes until it touches
[1913.1] Windestål: a little calibration device with an angle measurer. And when it does, you go to the other side,
[1921.34] Windestål: that makes it so that the flight controller knows what analog signal voltage is what angle.
[1932.78] Jack: Hang on, David. Tony's got business to do. Come on, read out my message.
[1939.02] Jack: I'm not doing that, you...
[1940.3] Jack: Come on, David. Mom, if you're listening...
[1944.3] Tony: No, I'm doing a party popper crash. During the week, I got some random stuff sent to me.
[1950.7] Tony: Party poppers, a gender reveal, boy or girl. Thanks.
[1955.66] Jack: How much, Frank? How much? How much?
[1960.62] Tony: I got birthday candles. They sparkle as they burn. And I just read on the back.
[1966.06] Jack: They are imp... I've tested one. They are impossible to put out.
[1969.82] Jack: They are impossible to put out.
[1970.7] Jack: Oh, great. And it says to be in...
[1972.54] Jack: They've put it away from candles.
[1974.14] Jack: Well, you've got to light me a candle.
[1975.74] Tony: Light in a darkened room with good ventilation. You trying to kill me, Frank?
[1981.1] AndyRC: Hang on, gender reveal. Is that like a baby? It's a boy.
[1987.9] Curry: If Tony's a boy or a girl.
[1990.06] AndyRC: Well, if Tony's a girl, it's going to be Janet, so I'll do pink.
[1993.9] AndyRC: I thought there were 78 genders. How have they managed to fit that in all that firework?
[2000.54] Tony: This is going to make my room messy, Frank.
[2003.18] Jack: That's why I was trying to get you to set it off.
[2005.66] Tony: That's... That's, er, ashes too, Quid.
[2009.5] Jack: Nobody saw that.
[2012.38] AndyRC: Did you do it downwards?
[2017.1] AndyRC: Somebody needs to present Tony while he's doing it, as well.
[2021.26] Tony: I'm not lighting these, because I'm not in a ventilated room. I'll do another party popper, then.
[2026.06] Jack: No, I... What? This is bullsh**. I paid money.
[2029.74] Tony: Well, there's your money.
[2031.74] Tony: There you go!
[2033.9] NJ: Thankfully, due to the 10 frames per second we're getting from Tony.
[2038.46] NJ: Oh, it's my internet. It's rubbish tonight.
[2040.86] NJ: And not only that, we went off during all the frames that weren't available to us.
[2045.02] UNKNOWN: Okay.
[2046.86] Tony: Well, that's it. I'm sorry.
[2048.78] AndyRC: Not only that, he did it under the desk, so it just looked like something ejaculated from
[2055.26] AndyRC: underneath the desk into the corner.
[2057.9] Tony: That's been a while.
[2061.74] Frank: How much for the gender reveal?
[2064.7] Frank: That's the yellow tier in the Super Chat.
[2068.94] Tony: What's yellow tier?
[2070.62] Curry: More than your measly five quid, Jack.
[2073.34] Curry: What's there in discussion about colours? I must have missed that one.
[2076.62] Frank: It's a Super Chat thing built into YouTube, so the Super Chat comes up as different colours.
[2081.98] Frank: Oh, I see.
[2082.3] Curry: Depending on how much it is.
[2083.9] Curry: So we've got green, blue must be low, green is middle, and yellow is higher.
[2089.82] Frank: Light blue, green, yellow, orange, magenta, red.
[2094.54] Tony: We've had a red before.
[2095.66] Tony: Oh, someone, someone, please.
[2099.02] Jack: Do us a yellow.
[2100.22] Tony: I'm not shouting, I'm gay, mum.
[2102.62] NJ: And then...
[2111.5] Jack: Isolate that, I'll tip you.
[2117.04] Tony: I'm gay, mum.
[2118.48] Tony: Gay, mum.
[2120.48] Tony: Gay, mum.
[2122.08] AndyRC: That's how my, that's how my tyrannis is going to start off from now on.
[2129.6] Curry: So I had a question.
[2130.72] Tony: We're spelling that.
[2132.72] Curry: It leads on from a couple of other comments.
[2135.12] Curry: So someone mentioned about why not iNav.
[2137.12] Curry: And I saw, David, that in your description, you said GPS is maybe coming,
[2141.84] Curry: but it's a bit experimental at the moment.
[2143.52] Curry: And when people think long range, they sometimes think,
[2146.24] Curry: oh, I need to return to home at some point.
[2147.92] Curry: So is that something that's coming along?
[2150.0] Curry: Yeah, yes.
[2151.76] Curry: Miles away.
[2152.88] Windestål: I do like not having a shape in that.
[2156.56] Jack: Sorry, Jack.
[2157.44] Jack: What is that black lump on your, on top of your tricopter?
[2160.96] Jack: Is that the VTX then?
[2162.08] Jack: Because I thought it was a GPF park.
[2164.16] Windestål: No, that's the video transmitter.
[2166.64] Windestål: Yeah, it's from...
[2169.36] Curry: It must be a 1.2 again with your big ground station still.
[2173.68] AndyRC: Oh, I love it.
[2174.64] AndyRC: It still works great.
[2175.84] AndyRC: Is it the reason why Get FPV got a big fine, I think?
[2180.72] AndyRC: Is it that one?
[2181.44] Windestål: I don't think it's felt.
[2187.52] Windestål: Yeah, it's coming, GPS.
[2194.16] Windestål: My friend tested it the other day, actually.
[2197.6] Windestål: So it's on the way.
[2200.48] Windestål: So return to home is gonna work.
[2205.2] Windestål: I'm like 90% sure it's gonna work.
[2208.24] Windestål: I don't know how like smooth it's gonna get there.
[2213.04] Windestål: Like if you try to get really good video, that is not the mode to be in.
[2218.32] Curry: I think as long as it comes vaguely back.
[2220.4] Curry: So I'm back in control range.
[2221.76] Curry: You're happy again, aren't you?
[2222.8] Curry: And you can see stuff.
[2223.44] Curry: Oh, yeah.
[2225.28] Windestål: That's kind of, I like flying it without the safety net though.
[2228.24] Windestål: It's very exciting.
[2231.04] Windestål: It's a really bad idea, but I like it.
[2233.92] Windestål: I've done so much flying that way.
[2236.0] Windestål: And it's sometimes you drive down the road and you're like,
[2239.84] Windestål: Oh man, there's hot air balloons.
[2242.4] Windestål: I need to go fly around those.
[2244.64] Windestål: You jump out, you take off and you fly around and like,
[2247.36] Windestål: I don't know where I took off from.
[2249.44] Windestål: I don't know this piece of land.
[2252.4] Windestål: Everything looks the same.
[2255.36] Jack: I've had that a couple of times more than I would care to remember.
[2259.12] Tony: That's why you wear a luminous yellow jacket now.
[2263.36] Tony: Even if it's sunny or not.
[2265.76] Curry: I think David slightly skew here because he flew something down from space,
[2269.52] Curry: lost video and it's like it's somewhere in the trees in Sweden and he found it again.
[2273.52] Curry: So anything's just, I'm just a couple of miles away.
[2276.0] Curry: It's no big problem.
[2277.04] Curry: I'll figure it out.
[2279.04] Curry: It's a level of what you've done before, I think.
[2281.44] Jack: I'm sure he trains his dog to sniff lipos and he's like, go find it.
[2288.32] Windestål: Man, no, he's never going to do that.
[2293.44] Windestål: But yeah, it's a good technique when trying to find your way back,
[2297.76] Windestål: by the way, up in the air is flying one direction.
[2301.28] Windestål: If the video gets worse, then turn around.
[2305.92] Windestål: You'll find yourself in the end.
[2312.4] Windestål: Yeah, an hour flight time, dude.
[2314.24] Windestål: That's the stuff.
[2315.2] Jack: Notice he didn't say, use the direction of the sun.
[2318.16] Jack: Oh, wait, I'm in Sweden.
[2319.44] Jack: There is none.
[2320.16] Curry: I use, when I'm flying in the trees, I can't figure out where I am.
[2326.08] Curry: And I just try and listen to the noise.
[2328.4] Curry: It's in my left ear.
[2329.68] Curry: It's getting quieter or it's coming into my right ear.
[2332.24] Curry: I must be going that way.
[2333.76] Curry: So I just need to come back a bit and I'll eventually find my way back.
[2337.2] NJ: Did you know what it is for me?
[2340.32] NJ: Especially when I'm going up in a new area, it's always roads and headlines and things.
[2345.44] NJ: Roads are especially useful.
[2346.64] NJ: It's exactly the same if you're up in a real plane.
[2349.12] NJ: You can use a road to get yourself back or look for a massive, any kind of big landmark
[2354.88] NJ: when you first take off and your position to it and the rough direction of it.
[2358.96] NJ: And all those things are useful.
[2360.88] NJ: But unfortunately, just go up and go flips, rolls, and then forget about all the things.
[2368.8] Windestål: That's the problem.
[2369.68] Windestål: You get excited.
[2372.24] Windestål: I did the same thing when I went to Hollywood, the Hollywood sign.
[2379.28] Windestål: Right.
[2380.0] NJ: That's a good one.
[2380.64] NJ: That's a good line book.
[2381.84] Windestål: Yeah, it's recognizable.
[2384.64] Windestål: We went up there.
[2385.52] Windestål: I had a tricopter in my hand and a police officer comes up and was like,
[2391.2] Windestål: oh, what are you doing with that?
[2392.32] Windestål: I'm like, ah, I thought I would fly around.
[2394.56] Windestål: No, you're not.
[2396.0] Windestål: Okay.
[2397.92] Windestål: So we went down and took off from the car instead.
[2402.4] Windestål: Nice.
[2403.68] Windestål: Flew around it.
[2404.4] Windestål: It was great.
[2406.16] Windestål: And it was far.
[2407.68] Windestål: It was a couple of kilometers, maybe three, four kilometers.
[2411.52] Windestål: It was on a 3S2200, big old tricopter, rewound motors, hand-wound motors to get the efficiency up.
[2426.88] Windestål: And I flew just straight out.
[2428.88] Windestål: Flew around the sign.
[2429.76] Windestål: This is awesome.
[2430.4] Windestål: Turned around like, oh, no.
[2433.76] Windestål: There was no clue at all.
[2437.6] Windestål: Everything looks the same.
[2440.32] Windestål: And I think I flew for maybe 30 seconds.
[2443.6] Windestål: I started counting the way back and I had a friend with me.
[2447.52] Windestål: And we tried to listen, but it was so loud there, like cars and people talking.
[2454.96] Windestål: Man, I came back and the battery was puffy.
[2459.28] Windestål: And when I landed, it was hot and puffy.
[2461.92] Windestål: So that was a one-time use lipo, basically.
[2465.76] NJ: I suppose your other option is to turn around, face the Hollywood sign,
[2468.88] NJ: and just fly backwards and see if you can roughly work your way out in reverse.
[2473.36] NJ: I like that.
[2474.96] NJ: Yeah, should have thought about that.
[2477.2] NJ: Interesting challenge.
[2479.12] NJ: Sadly, I'm going to have to go.
[2480.56] NJ: But just before I do, I must ask quickly, you have a, I think we just got on to chatting
[2485.92] NJ: before we went live, but you've got a DLG in the background there.
[2488.56] NJ: And obviously, I love DLGs.
[2490.08] NJ: Is that a blaster, was it?
[2492.16] Windestål: It is a blaster to wing.
[2495.92] Windestål: And a fuselage and tail from a friend of mine, he makes his own DLGs and sells them.
[2506.4] Windestål: Really nice stuff.
[2507.44] Windestål: So bladder molded, super lightweight, all carbon, nice and super stiff.
[2515.04] Windestål: And then the wing I bought, they had bad damaged ones in transit.
[2523.2] Windestål: Like, yeah, so they couldn't sell them for full price.
[2526.0] Windestål: They sold them super cheap at the local swap meets.
[2530.48] Windestål: I'm like, I'm buying three of those.
[2533.12] NJ: Yeah, that's a great idea because blasters are expensive DLGs anyway.
[2537.84] Windestål: Oh, for sure.
[2538.64] Windestål: And this is the hollow core wing, which is stupid when it comes to catching it.
[2548.32] Windestål: You can very easily squeeze it too hard on it.
[2551.2] Windestål: It's a pressure.
[2551.92] Windestål: Exactly.
[2552.32] Windestål: So it's very interesting how they make that though.
[2554.88] Windestål: So the inside of the wing is hollow.
[2558.24] Windestål: The outside is a very thin layer of fiberglass, which is stuck to Depron.
[2569.36] Windestål: So it is super lightweight, but it's not a wing that when you throw and your elevator
[2579.28] Windestål: flies off and it nose dives, that wing is not going to survive that.
[2584.24] NJ: Right.
[2584.64] NJ: It's going to pretty much disintegrate.
[2587.2] Windestål: Yeah, for sure.
[2589.36] Windestål: And it's a lot better to just run a super thin airfoil today.
[2597.44] Windestål: Like when they're thinner than servos, which is already made for gliders.
[2605.2] Windestål: Because if you get height, most of the time you can win.
[2611.44] Windestål: If you get higher up and you're good at finding thermals, powerful ones,
[2619.6] Windestål: you usually win.
[2620.88] Windestål: Like height is so important.
[2623.68] Windestål: So a thin one usually goes high.
[2625.68] Windestål: This one is thick.
[2627.84] Windestål: So throwing that, I can't get that more than maybe 30 meters.
[2634.64] Windestål: It's decent.
[2640.8] Windestål: I don't practice on the other hand, but I mean, it's decent.
[2646.64] Windestål: You can find some really nice thermals, the ground ones that are like the dust devils.
[2652.0] Windestål: Oh my gosh, so much fun.
[2653.76] Windestål: So you go in and then just spiral.
[2655.84] Windestål: Basically, the wing is vertical.
[2660.56] Windestål: Nice.
[2661.04] NJ: So you're literally in it like this.
[2662.96] NJ: Yeah, it's fantastic.
[2664.72] NJ: Oh, it's so much fun.
[2665.6] NJ: Oh, I'd love to see a video of that.
[2667.52] NJ: Is there any video of someone actually getting in one of those?
[2670.0] Windestål: That would be, I think I have one.
[2673.76] Windestål: Yeah.
[2674.96] Windestål: I think it's even in the course I bought a long time ago.
[2678.88] Windestål: I bought a thermal course from, I can't remember what, the sailplane people.
[2685.44] Windestål: It was a DVD, which I ripped.
[2689.04] Windestål: I have it on the computer so I can share it with you if you want.
[2693.28] Windestål: Very legal.
[2694.8] Windestål: But yeah, I shouldn't have said that.
[2699.6] Windestål: Anyway, no, it's just great.
[2703.2] Windestål: They talk about how thermals are made, what to look for and all that.
[2707.2] Windestål: And he goes out and shoots some video of a tractor going forward.
[2712.88] Windestål: And you see the cloud behind it and it's plowing.
[2716.48] Windestål: You see the cloud behind it and you see a thermal forming
[2719.92] Windestål: because all the particles in the air, it's fantastic.
[2722.56] Windestål: And then he goes out and flies his DLG and he flies it so close to the ground,
[2727.36] Windestål: just doing dust doubles, moving around.
[2729.84] Windestål: And it's like, it is, he is so amazing.
[2734.48] Windestål: So what DLG do you have?
[2737.2] NJ: Oh, I did have a blaster a long time ago, which met its unfortunate demise.
[2744.96] NJ: And that really put me off them because they're so expensive
[2747.44] NJ: and it was such a heartbreaking crash.
[2749.52] NJ: And then I got back into it with an elf.
[2751.76] NJ: Okay, which is obviously really simple light,
[2754.88] NJ: but it's still a really premium little DLG for just a one meter wingspan.
[2760.32] NJ: And I actually ended up doing quite a lot of my learning thermals on that one
[2765.28] NJ: because it just flew great.
[2767.44] NJ: Yeah, I've had some amazing sessions thermaling that.
[2772.4] NJ: So I've kind of been really getting back into it with that guy,
[2776.56] NJ: but I can see myself getting another blaster now that I'm that bit better.
[2780.88] NJ: And I miss not having the ailerons because, you know, you can have so much more fun.
[2786.72] NJ: Yeah.
[2787.6] NJ: And obviously being able to set the kind of crow set up for the super slow flying
[2792.72] NJ: when you're when you want to do your hand catch.
[2795.12] Windestål: Oh, that's the best thing.
[2797.12] NJ: Yeah, exactly.
[2797.92] NJ: Where it just puts its nose down and almost comes
[2800.56] NJ: like one mile an hour towards you for the catch is just just so awesome.
[2804.64] Windestål: It is like, yeah, you do.
[2807.28] Windestål: Um, it's the ailerons on a, uh, on one of those planes.
[2812.16] Windestål: What you do is, uh, you do it as flaps.
[2816.32] NJ: Um, yeah, it's flapper on mix.
[2819.68] NJ: I think.
[2820.16] NJ: Yes.
[2821.2] Windestål: That's the word.
[2822.24] Windestål: Yeah.
[2822.72] Windestål: And like it's 90 degrees down.
[2826.72] Windestål: It's so amazing for people that haven't seen it.
[2829.68] Windestål: It's just so weird.
[2830.96] Windestål: And like you said, the noise pitches down like crazy.
[2835.12] Windestål: And it just like it's, it doesn't look like it's supposed to be able to fly.
[2839.44] Windestål: And it just, you can just literally like pluck it out of the air.
[2843.12] Windestål: Like you don't have to, like it doesn't fly hard towards you.
[2846.56] Windestål: And kind of like try to run and catch it or anything.
[2850.0] Windestål: You just, it just goes towards it.
[2852.32] Windestål: It's amazing.
[2853.92] Windestål: Anyone that hasn't tried it.
[2855.6] Windestål: It's amazing, but it's so expensive to get into.
[2859.76] NJ: Exactly.
[2860.32] NJ: Yeah.
[2860.64] NJ: I think, I mean, there are some cheap ways in like hobby kingdom, a couple of cheap ones.
[2864.72] NJ: I mean, the elf's not super cheap.
[2866.72] NJ: It's still over up to sort of 150 odd pounds, I think.
[2870.08] NJ: But it's a great introductory because obviously these things can go into the
[2874.56] NJ: thousands if you really want to start spending your money.
[2877.36] NJ: But it's just so much fun and it's free.
[2881.36] NJ: It's just a bit of swinging energy.
[2883.36] NJ: Your arm's going to hurt the next day probably.
[2885.2] NJ: But it's, you know, other than that, it's pretty, pretty magical thing to fly.
[2890.4] Curry: Yeah, I bought the chibi hobby king one and it's, you know, it's nothing special,
[2894.32] Curry: but you can throw it.
[2895.36] Curry: It flies around.
[2896.24] Curry: You come and catch it.
[2897.12] Curry: I like it because it's very interactive.
[2898.72] Curry: There's lots to do.
[2900.96] NJ: They're so brilliant.
[2901.92] NJ: I've got to run chaps.
[2902.88] NJ: David, great to see you again.
[2906.0] AndyRC: Take care, guys.
[2911.36] AndyRC: Does anyone know where NJ is off to?
[2914.24] Curry: Something musician.
[2915.6] AndyRC: I was going to say probably, you know,
[2919.12] AndyRC: I keep saying to him the minute he gets the call from Ariana Grande,
[2925.44] AndyRC: if I don't get a ticket,
[2928.4] AndyRC: backstage pass, I'm going to be livid.
[2931.44] AndyRC: Yeah, it's probably something like that, isn't it?
[2934.24] AndyRC: It's Tony talking to himself, but it's got his microphone.
[2937.84] AndyRC: Are you talking to Tony?
[2942.24] Windestål: Oh, wow.
[2944.56] Windestål: So Andy, what have you been reviewing?
[2946.72] Windestål: Anything fun lately?
[2948.56] AndyRC: Man, yeah, there's just so much stuff.
[2952.16] AndyRC: But I think you're definitely on to something there.
[2956.64] AndyRC: The long range thing is definitely something that people are interested in
[2960.56] AndyRC: in terms of quads.
[2961.52] AndyRC: They're going up in Prop size seven.
[2964.96] AndyRC: It comes full circle.
[2966.4] AndyRC: It's strange, you know?
[2968.0] AndyRC: It kind of started off with huge quads and people sticking GPS and things like that on it,
[2974.88] AndyRC: but using APM and Pixar and stuff.
[2978.4] AndyRC: And then it got small and people got bored of that.
[2982.16] AndyRC: So now it's like they're getting bigger and they're like,
[2984.32] AndyRC: hey, be it a flight, make GPS at work kind of thing.
[2988.08] AndyRC: So it's kind of like, no, no, that used to work ages ago.
[2991.36] AndyRC: We can do that.
[2992.64] AndyRC: But I think it's sort of going around in circles and people want to do long range and big.
[2999.2] AndyRC: And then at the other end of the spectrum, they want to go tiny with their micro stuff.
[3004.16] AndyRC: So extremes at the moment.
[3007.36] AndyRC: What I wanted to ask though, David, over here, we've got a lot of...
[3014.48] AndyRC: Is hysteria the right word, Andy?
[3016.64] AndyRC: You probably know.
[3017.28] Curry: Hysteria is the right word.
[3018.8] AndyRC: Yeah.
[3019.2] AndyRC: When it comes to anything that flies, whether it's a plastic bag or you call it a drone,
[3026.96] AndyRC: it's in the news.
[3028.32] AndyRC: What's it like over where you are or where you've been?
[3033.28] AndyRC: Because we're sitting here talking about long range and at the same time,
[3039.84] AndyRC: we kind of feel like we're restricted to just flying in about a meter squared,
[3045.12] AndyRC: bit of space at the moment with all of us.
[3048.48] AndyRC: They call it the G word, the Gatwick incident.
[3052.0] AndyRC: What's it like over there?
[3053.6] AndyRC: It sounds like you're not getting any of that from what you've been talking about.
[3058.4] Windestål: No, not really.
[3059.04] Windestål: I don't get...
[3062.56] Windestål: It's not portrayed as drones are not considered bad yet because we haven't had any big stuff
[3069.76] Windestål: happen.
[3070.48] Windestål: People are annoyed with sometimes the Gatwick stuff that was pretty bad,
[3078.88] Windestål: but people forget about it.
[3080.72] Windestål: It's not in the news at all.
[3084.48] Windestål: It's basically from outside the country and it's not covered that much, luckily.
[3092.64] Windestål: Normally, if someone sees you fly, they're interested.
[3095.92] Windestål: They don't get freaked out or anything.
[3098.56] Windestål: They just wonder what you're doing and you put the goggles on them and yeah,
[3103.36] Windestål: you make a new friend.
[3104.32] Windestål: It's still like the golden days, you know?
[3109.28] AndyRC: Yeah, it's not quite like that here.
[3111.52] AndyRC: What I find is we have to convert a lot of people to convince them that what I'm flying
[3119.92] AndyRC: is not what caused Gatwick.
[3122.4] AndyRC: I think I mentioned on here a few weeks back, we were just flying in a big open field and
[3129.92] AndyRC: this lady came up and said,
[3132.08] AndyRC: you're not the one flying around the airport, so are you in all this?
[3135.52] AndyRC: I'm like, no.
[3138.56] AndyRC: That's not us.
[3139.36] AndyRC: I'm going to have to explain the difference between a quadcopter or whatever and a drone.
[3145.2] AndyRC: Then we had this silly program that was on the other night.
[3151.92] AndyRC: Did you guys all...
[3152.88] AndyRC: I mean, David, not well.
[3156.72] AndyRC: It's almost like they were just trying to milk a bit more.
[3160.88] AndyRC: Like, oh, remember that Gatwick thing?
[3163.12] AndyRC: Yeah, we've got no evidence or no new conclusions,
[3166.72] AndyRC: but let's make a half hour and it's really big.
[3171.04] Tony: Yeah, it was completely waste of time, wasn't it?
[3174.64] Jack: I'm trying to release a children's book with me and Tony being like,
[3178.96] Jack: there was a good drone with Gatwick, use your imagination,
[3184.96] Jack: there's a drone, the earth is flat.
[3188.56] AndyRC: What I think was most disturbing about it was how it demonstrated to would-be terrorists
[3194.16] AndyRC: how to use a drone.
[3196.16] AndyRC: This is what you could do.
[3197.76] AndyRC: It's almost like saying to people who like to stab others,
[3200.64] AndyRC: do you know you can just use a pen?
[3204.08] AndyRC: It was kind of like that, wasn't it?
[3205.68] AndyRC: But with like a drone.
[3208.0] Jack: A pen, a lighter and a razor blade.
[3210.16] Jack: You could melt the pen and then insert the razor blade into it,
[3213.6] Jack: let it cool and then you have the perfect prison shiv.
[3217.2] AndyRC: There we go.
[3218.08] AndyRC: Jack, we're just as bad as them now.
[3219.68] Frank: It wasn't a weird half hour because it started off like,
[3226.08] Frank: it started off like the first bit was like,
[3227.92] Frank: drones can be used for many things,
[3229.6] Frank: they can be very helpful and they'll save lives
[3231.6] Frank: and done search and rescue and all this other thing.
[3235.36] Frank: That was for like the first 30 seconds and then,
[3237.84] Frank: but Gatwick drone incident and then at the end it was like,
[3242.24] Frank: but things blow up and it just like shows video clips like grenades attached to drones.
[3248.08] Frank: Yes, but there's the grenade blowing up.
[3250.16] Frank: That's what makes that dangerous, not the drone.
[3252.8] Frank: Like if you've got grenades, the drone is not the problem.
[3258.8] Tony: It's the same as guns, isn't it really?
[3261.12] Tony: They don't kill anyone.
[3262.32] Curry: The problem I found with that was the spokesman for Gatwick who would,
[3266.08] Curry: he was like some religious fundamentalist who would give him a logical statement
[3270.24] Curry: and he'd find a way to explain it like,
[3271.84] Curry: how can we never saw any drones?
[3273.6] Curry: We think it was an inside job and they knew everything about it.
[3276.96] Curry: How come when you got these drone detectors
[3278.56] Curry: with specialized equipment and cameras, they didn't see any?
[3280.88] Curry: Yes, we think they were somehow intercepting our messages
[3283.68] Curry: and knew about it and then went away again.
[3285.52] Curry: It's like every single time something...
[3287.92] Jack: It's like Tony trying to explain the earth isn't flat.
[3291.68] Tony: He had quite a punchable face as well as that, John.
[3294.56] Jack: They all did.
[3295.76] Jack: No, don't say that.
[3297.68] Frank: Why can't we say that?
[3298.72] Frank: It was very literally like the arguing with the full flat earth thing
[3303.92] Frank: and it started out like,
[3305.68] Frank: oh, there was a drone and it's like,
[3307.2] Frank: but you had a drone detecting setup actually working at the time
[3311.12] Frank: and it didn't detect anything.
[3313.04] Frank: Well, it was a specially picked drone.
[3315.6] Frank: Specially designed, yeah.
[3316.64] Frank: Quite lighting stuff, yeah.
[3319.04] Frank: Right, okay, but there were no photos of it.
[3321.68] Frank: Yes, well, yes.
[3323.92] AndyRC: I thought it was interesting how they said there was 115 sightings of a drone,
[3328.48] AndyRC: but all by Gatwick staff, not one member of the public,
[3332.4] AndyRC: it's like, hmm, that's a bit suspicious.
[3334.08] Tony: Yeah, and on them days, if you look back in the news,
[3338.16] Tony: in September, I think, they said they were going to do
[3341.6] Tony: a walkout or demonstration, the Gatwick staff on them same days.
[3346.4] Frank: Bit weird.
[3347.44] Frank: Anyway, yes, there's been some bad drone use,
[3350.72] Frank: but there's been lots of good drone use as well.
[3352.88] Frank: There was very recently the drones were used by the Parisian firefighters
[3361.36] Frank: in helping identify the hotspots in the Notre Dame fire.
[3366.96] Frank: Oh, yeah.
[3368.64] Jack: No, but it was a drone that caused the fire,
[3371.36] Jack: and we must say all drone users.
[3373.84] Tony: That'd be next.
[3374.48] Tony: Sorry.
[3375.52] Tony: I must admit, the Gatwick panorama,
[3379.28] Tony: them guys, the drone racers, I must have watched,
[3384.48] Tony: because they were their tin pool hats,
[3386.4] Tony: and so there was no drone and stuff.
[3389.12] Tony: You must watch.
[3391.2] Tony: And you want to come on the show.
[3392.72] Tony: Thanks, talking as a guest.
[3396.24] Frank: Come on.
[3397.12] AndyRC: Yeah, they were from Yorkshire.
[3398.88] AndyRC: Yeah, so what I thought, because David and maybe a lot of people didn't see the show,
[3403.68] AndyRC: because if you look at the comments on it,
[3405.68] AndyRC: it seems like the only people who watch the show were people who flew drones
[3409.2] AndyRC: because they were just so like, this is just this is fake.
[3413.2] Jack: Grandmas who don't have Twitter.
[3415.68] Curry: I think it's because like every single person that owns a drone
[3418.48] Curry: was basically being told by their partner, family or significant other that,
[3422.24] Curry: was this you or you doing this?
[3425.12] Curry: I'm going to get on the internet and prove it to people.
[3428.32] Curry: They were all defending themselves heavily.
[3432.0] AndyRC: Yeah, no, it was it was one thing I noticed was every reconstruction was done with a DJI,
[3438.72] AndyRC: which would be impossible because they're geofenced.
[3442.72] Curry: You hear Andy, the software is out there to get around this.
[3446.0] Jack: Yeah, it's the same people who are smart enough to attach a grenade to a drone with sellotape.
[3455.6] AndyRC: Actually, I think the software is only available for the Mavic and they were using
[3459.36] AndyRC: inspires and P4s.
[3460.96] AndyRC: So I actually don't think the software is out there for that.
[3463.92] Curry: Just stop using logic.
[3466.0] AndyRC: But anyways, anyways, when anytime like they talked about the Gatwick incident,
[3470.8] AndyRC: they showed a DJI and anytime they talked about registration,
[3474.32] AndyRC: they showed a freestyle cup.
[3475.68] AndyRC: So it's almost like, you know, they were it was almost trying to throw out a message.
[3480.96] Tony: This is the baby say.
[3482.72] Tony: Yeah, yeah.
[3484.24] AndyRC: Yeah.
[3484.72] Jack: So it's like, I can't wait for Doris.
[3487.52] Frank: We have a very exciting guest who's spent time taking his time out of his day to come
[3492.56] Frank: and spend time with us.
[3494.16] Frank: And we're here to, you know, encourage people remind people that there is this
[3498.72] Frank: community of people that enjoy drones and don't just complain about it all the time.
[3503.28] Curry: I would just put a bit in perspective.
[3505.2] Curry: One of my favorite David videos and stories is the time he lost his easy start.
[3509.52] Curry: It's an awesome video.
[3510.56] Curry: But the fact it crashed into the town hall and then they took a photo of him put him
[3515.92] Curry: in the paper and said, isn't this cool?
[3519.04] Windestål: That was a different time for sure.
[3520.8] Windestål: Yeah.
[3521.28] Windestål: They're like, oh, it's our mini 911.
[3523.76] Jack: It's not the supported views of late.
[3533.92] Curry: It's not for monetization at this point.
[3536.72] Jack: Yeah, it's the take the monetization of please forward your complaints to David at
[3542.8] Jack: RC Explorer dot se.
[3546.64] AndyRC: I think David finally talked the things that I've said on this show.
[3550.8] AndyRC: I don't know.
[3551.52] AndyRC: Thank you, David.
[3552.64] AndyRC: I'll send you some paper of me.
[3555.68] AndyRC: I've been getting some grief for the things I said.
[3558.72] AndyRC: Should we write something?
[3560.48] Frank: Obviously, if you have somewhere near you where you can, you know,
[3567.6] Frank: you want to be able to fly for an hour and eight minutes within, obviously,
[3570.96] Frank: line of sight and below 400 feet and whatever the other.
[3575.44] Frank: So that's pretty much it at the moment, isn't it?
[3577.2] Curry: You can get relaxed.
[3578.32] Curry: I think you can do this.
[3580.0] Frank: Yeah, exactly.
[3581.36] Frank: Then you can go to RC Explorer dot se and there's a link in the description here
[3587.6] Frank: that takes you directly to the tricopter LR page.
[3592.24] AndyRC: Awesome.
[3592.96] AndyRC: Thank you.
[3593.76] AndyRC: David, have you done a build like you did with your mini tricopter with the new one?
[3601.2] Windestål: Yes, it's shot.
[3602.48] Windestål: It's not edited yet.
[3606.4] Windestål: I have had to do other things.
[3609.44] Windestål: I'm going back to Italy like end of the week or early next week
[3616.0] Windestål: and I'll edit it there or on the plane on the way or something.
[3621.76] Jack: Tony.
[3622.96] Tony: What if I got a light something coming?
[3624.88] Tony: You got anything left?
[3626.4] Jack: Come on, man.
[3627.36] Jack: Is that yellow?
[3629.12] Jack: That is yellow.
[3630.88] Jack: I think I'm going to leave.
[3633.04] Jack: Tony, where are you?
[3634.24] Jack: I'm going to move this door.
[3636.0] Jack: Duh, come on, Tony.
[3637.84] Tony: I'm not doing that one.
[3638.72] Tony: It's stupid.
[3639.36] Tony: You make a mess everywhere.
[3641.2] Tony: You've already got a mess.
[3642.24] Tony: Can I just put one thing?
[3643.6] Tony: I'm going to be a girl.
[3644.88] Tony: Where am I doing this?
[3645.84] Tony: Behind me and into the camera?
[3647.44] Tony: On you.
[3647.92] Tony: To the camera.
[3648.8] AndyRC: If you're going to be a girl, Tony, you've got to tuck it between your legs.
[3657.76] Tony: Are you ready?
[3660.24] Jack: Up.
[3660.8] Jack: Up more.
[3661.92] Tony: It's not doing anything.
[3664.0] AndyRC: Twist it till it comes off in your hand.
[3666.24] AndyRC: I am.
[3667.84] AndyRC: Tony's last words were.
[3669.28] AndyRC: It's not doing anything.
[3670.72] AndyRC: It's really interesting.
[3671.92] AndyRC: It's not working.
[3672.72] AndyRC: It's in direction.
[3674.56] AndyRC: Righty tighty.
[3675.44] AndyRC: It's rubbish.
[3676.72] AndyRC: Don't move directly into it.
[3678.8] AndyRC: Yeah, maybe.
[3680.88] Windestål: It's like the first thing at the gun course, yeah.
[3683.44] Tony: Nothing.
[3684.72] Tony: Doesn't work, Jack.
[3685.76] Tony: You've got a fake one.
[3687.36] Tony: Right, I'm going to have to light one of these.
[3690.48] Tony: How does it not work?
[3692.08] Tony: Oh, Frank, these are good ones.
[3693.76] Tony: And they look like they're all in the car.
[3696.16] Tony: Right, I'm getting a window opening.
[3699.76] Tony: It's going out onto my car.
[3702.96] AndyRC: Right, just be careful.
[3704.32] AndyRC: I kind of feel like all this pyrotechnic stuff that David's done in the past has
[3708.4] AndyRC: rubbed off on the show in some way.
[3710.48] Tony: I like it.
[3711.36] Tony: Which end do I like?
[3712.8] Tony: It doesn't really end.
[3713.84] Jack: There's no instructions.
[3715.52] Jack: Oh, my God.
[3717.12] Jack: Did you send him a lighter as well?
[3720.16] Tony: No, I went and bought one.
