=====================================

[0.0] Jack: Hey guys it's Jack here, big massive shout out to our patreons. So these guys are the guys who donate
[9.84] Jack: for the editing and they really do make a huge difference to keep the show alive.
[17.12] Jack: We've been sponsored by Art Faulkner, Ferdy Evers, Mikey Dread and Under Fluke.
[23.2] Jack: These guys are absolute legends. Thank you so much and see you next show.
[30.88] Curry: And that's how you make a nail bomb.
[65.22] Jack: This is going to be a disclaimer heavy show, even before the intro.
[73.7] Curry: Legal notice, any views expressed by any guests on this show are personal and may not reflect the
[78.66] Curry: views of the host or any participant at the show. I'm going to give a special mention here to Andy
[83.14] Curry: RC because he started this whole thing. He shouldn't be trusted.
[92.98] Jack: Anything said on this show is in jest and not meant to offend or harm anyone.
[102.26] Jack: We are all trained idiots and Zoe FPV doesn't count because she's in America
[109.62] Zoe Stumbaugh: and she's allowed to say and do whatever she wants.
[114.18] Curry: I was going to say it makes me an idiot by inheritance, right?
[128.66] Tony: Stop paying us, no don't fault us and we want to pay the queen.
[132.98] Tony: I don't want to pay the queen, can I come to America?
[137.3] Zoe Stumbaugh: But yeah, actually, probably. I don't know. Are you oppressed over there?
[141.54] Zoe Stumbaugh: Do you need to immigrate and you know, because it's severely
[147.7] Andy: I'm coming over there. Tony is depressed, not oppressed.
[158.9] Jack: I'd like to point out that Andy RC has been my friend longer than Tony's.
[163.62] Andy: Is that true?
[164.34] Jack: Yeah, where's Tony's friend anniversary?
[168.82] Tony: I wonder.
[170.1] Tony: I didn't post it.
[171.62] Tony: Didn't need to.
[173.62] Tony: Didn't need to. Me and him talk tightly.
[175.7] Andy: You better not.
[177.22] Andy: Tony's been on my profile photo more than any female, I think, and when I've been in relationship.
[186.82] Andy: Is this the best video?
[187.94] Curry: Are you supposed to change your profile picture because I put one up like 10 years ago and it
[192.1] Curry: stayed like that ever since. This is the thing that we're supposed to change profile pictures.
[197.14] Tony: I think it is the thing. I'll change my own.
[199.14] Curry: Tony money's a good bit.
[201.22] Tony: Anyway, we should start the show properly.
[205.3] Jack: Hello and welcome to another wonderful episode of Let's Be Terrorists and Weaponise Everything.
[213.38] Jack: Tonight you are joined by Andrew Stashfrank.
[218.26] Jack: Good evening.
[219.38] Jack: Our main instigator for disobedience, Andy RC.
[226.5] Andy: I was trying to think of a different language and to say hello, but no, never mind.
[233.3] Andy: Hello, everybody.
[235.46] Tony: It's only one language.
[236.66] Tony: You can say hello in Andy.
[238.5] Jack: Our international arm smuggler, my little Tony.
[245.46] Frank: That was meant to smuggle anyone's arms.
[249.3] Frank: That was even better because he was trying to say bonjour, but it just sounded like he said bomb.
[255.94] Frank: And speaking of bombs...
[256.98] Tony: I've been trying to keep in with the show.
[259.78] Jack: Munition's nail expert, Currykin.
[262.9] Curry: Hello, I have my registered weapon ready to take down things.
[268.1] Curry: Weaponised drone time.
[269.78] Jack: Yeah, and we have our overseas undercover CIA operative, Zoe, FPV.
[282.58] Zoe Stumbaugh: It's actually quite close to the truth that you realise.
[288.74] Jack: And head of this moronic operation, if we mix these two chemicals...
[299.86] Andy: Oh, this episode is not going any further.
[306.74] Andy: I wonder why they're discontinuing hangouts.
[312.1] Frank: So to give everyone a bit of background on what we're going on about already,
[318.34] Frank: because, you know, there are some people who aren't in the UK or aren't on Facebook or
[323.14] Frank: who have managed to avoid this horror of the latest BBC documentary on drones.
[332.66] Andy: Documentary is perhaps a strong word.
[338.34] Andy: They said that it's not a documentary because a documentary contains facts.
[342.34] Andy: And balanced.
[346.1] Frank: Yeah, so it was broadcast this week and has got everyone right angsty.
[353.54] Curry: What was the title of it?
[357.22] Curry: See if Zoe thinks it's balanced from the title.
[362.74] Zoe Stumbaugh: Yeah, what's the title and what was it about?
[364.66] Zoe Stumbaugh: Because as a stupid American, I have literally no idea of what the hell you're talking about.
[370.02] Curry: It's called Drones The Next Air Disaster.
[373.78] Curry: Yeah, that is what.
[374.74] Curry: Yeah, that's it.
[375.78] Curry: That's not a sensationalist at all.
[377.3] Tony: And everyone in England saw it and believed it because everyone who watches TV believes the TV.
[385.46] Tony: It's called Tell Your Vision.
[387.14] Tony: So people believe that.
[388.74] Zoe Stumbaugh: That's also called television programming.
[391.22] Zoe Stumbaugh: Programming and audio.
[392.34] Tony: Yeah, so that's it.
[394.42] Tony: Zoe knows.
[395.62] Jack: So anyway, tonight we're going to show you how to weaponise your drone.
[399.3] Jack: All you'll need is a scalpel or a knife.
[402.66] Jack: Oh my God, he's got a knife out now.
[406.18] Jack: Some sellotape.
[407.14] Jack: That's not a knife.
[408.82] Jack: And a drone.
[409.54] Jack: No, no, no, no.
[410.42] Zoe Stumbaugh: Actually, your new frame project has an actual spike on it.
[414.98] Zoe Stumbaugh: I have actually weaponised my drone already.
[418.02] Jack: So all you do is you take your knife.
[420.1] Andy: And then you take your modified Mavic with a foxy a cab on the front.
[431.46] Andy: Zoe's done it already.
[434.1] Jack: And then you take the knife and then you fly it into people and stuff.
[439.22] Andy: No, not into people.
[440.66] Andy: That wouldn't do it.
[441.46] Andy: That wouldn't do any harm.
[442.74] Andy: You've got to do way more than that.
[444.82] Andy: Zoe's got the right idea.
[446.02] Tony: Way more adventurous than that.
[448.34] Tony: You'll fly it into a plane.
[449.7] Curry: Just to add balance, what I've built is a oral hygiene drone.
[453.46] Curry: And this has got a toothbrush on the front.
[455.46] Curry: And you can just fly this towards somebody's face.
[461.46] Curry: I think these are going to be self continuous.
[464.74] Jack: For maximum effect, all you do is you then tape some carbon fibre to your drone,
[472.74] Jack: fill it full of foam and then fire it out of a cannon.
[476.1] Frank: Don't forget the full massive steel rods that were in there.
[479.94] Frank: I think they were steel.
[480.82] Frank: They looked like steel.
[482.1] Curry: Yeah, they did look like they were part of a phantom, that's for sure.
[486.98] Zoe Stumbaugh: So basically, was it a documentary just like showcasing what drones could do in the future?
[494.1] Zoe Stumbaugh: Or was it like showcasing what they have done?
[496.98] Frank: It was a documentary.
[500.1] Frank: The main presenter was an ex-raw marine's wrist.
[506.18] Frank: Analyst, I think was his title.
[511.46] Frank: Yeah, oh, yeah, he was a sniper.
[513.3] Frank: But now his day job is a risk analyst.
[516.34] Andy: It's not a very good sniper from what I saw.
[519.94] Tony: Yeah, he can't, yeah.
[523.62] Curry: Tony can't stay here because he's not supposed to watch the program.
[526.66] Curry: You can literally say you can't even hit a phantom at 300 metres and that's factual.
[531.22] Curry: That is factual.
[532.58] Andy: Yeah, so just to set the scene.
[535.94] Zoe Stumbaugh: I think my mom put a phantom at 300 metres.
[539.3] Andy: To set the scene, they took a Phantom 4 and they flew it out to 300 metres.
[545.38] Andy: And then they got this marine guy who was the presenter with, he's like an ex-niper guy.
[551.78] Andy: And they're at 300 metres.
[554.42] Andy: And this is a Phantom 4, so it's got the optical flow.
[559.7] Andy: It doesn't move.
[562.34] Andy: It doesn't move at all.
[566.02] Andy: At 300 metres, I think, was it 12 shots?
[569.86] Andy: And he didn't hit it at all.
[571.7] Andy: I think they had to bring it to, was it?
[574.58] Andy: I think it was a sniper.
[576.02] Curry: 200 metres.
[577.38] Andy: 200 metres and it still took him a few goes, didn't it?
[580.9] Jack: Yeah.
[581.38] Jack: Oh, wow.
[582.18] Jack: I just want to remind all of you that he did.
[584.98] Jack: He's done his service well.
[586.74] Jack: He could easily shoot one of us at 300 metres.
[591.46] Tony: He could easily shoot you, Jack.
[593.14] Tony: Probably, just me.
[597.3] Curry: I think we had the main program.
[600.66] Curry: There were so many elements of it, which were horrendous.
[603.38] Curry: And one of the things they did, they said this is a guy that deals with an expert at impact science.
[611.3] Curry: And what they did, they trotted out this old wing from some old plane.
[614.9] Curry: I think it was part of a horizontal stabilizer.
[617.06] Curry: And they said, this is how we do a burst strike.
[619.06] Curry: We use gelatin and they put it in a big air cannon.
[621.94] Curry: So it's kind of bullet shaped and they fired it at this wing and it made a hole.
[625.22] Curry: And it's like, oh, this would be OK.
[626.9] Curry: It hasn't affected the surfaces.
[628.58] Curry: They could still land.
[629.7] Curry: And instead of firing a phantom at it, because they couldn't put it in the gun,
[633.46] Curry: what they did is smashed it up with a hammer, put it in this, like, some sort of epoxy.
[638.66] Curry: It was like an epoxy.
[640.18] Curry: So basically, they ground it into a bullet, essentially,
[643.62] Curry: and then fired out an air cannon at the same wing that already had a hole in it.
[649.14] Curry: And said, oh, look.
[649.94] Tony: And added weird things that we don't know what we're in there.
[654.18] Tony: Some sort of steel rod.
[655.14] Andy: They look like steel rods.
[658.98] Andy: I didn't even care about that because, I mean,
[661.46] Andy: the fact that you've shot it into the same wing as you shot the gel.
[665.3] Curry: It already has a hole in it.
[666.74] Andy: Yeah, exactly.
[668.02] Andy: It's already had its integrity broken.
[670.5] Andy: You fire something else at it, it may get worse.
[674.02] Curry: But I thought the interesting thing about the program is, during the program, it was all,
[678.9] Curry: this is terrible.
[679.7] Curry: This is going to happen.
[680.82] Curry: This is the worst thing ever.
[682.5] Curry: Look, we've seen the proof here.
[684.02] Curry: But Frank linked to an interview he was on via, and we saw the Twitter link.
[690.42] Curry: And he was discussing stuff there.
[692.18] Curry: And he sounded like a normal human being.
[693.78] Curry: He's like, he is like...
[694.5] Frank: No, he was a presenter, by the way.
[695.86] Frank: Not me.
[697.54] Curry: Really, a scientific test he was saying.
[700.18] Curry: He was even saying, like, Gatwick was like,
[702.26] Curry: maybe there were drones, maybe there weren't.
[703.7] Curry: All these things were presented as Gatwick happened.
[707.22] Curry: Look, it can take a wing down.
[708.9] Curry: Everything's going to kill us.
[710.42] Curry: Every drone is weaponized.
[711.7] Curry: They're allowed to get us.
[713.06] Andy: He sort of backtracked on pretty much the entire program.
[716.58] Andy: Or either that, or he said stuff that maybe was said in the program but was edited out.
[723.14] Andy: But what I don't understand is how, if it was unbiased,
[728.1] Andy: then they would have mentioned the fact that Amazon is trying to have an autonomous drone
[735.3] Andy: service.
[735.94] Andy: Instead, they just focused on all of the, you know, if it wasn't balanced at all.
[742.1] Andy: And then he went on that interview and he said, oh, you know, something that wasn't
[747.22] Andy: said in the program that I just want to...
[750.18] Andy: And he sort of said, I want to just say that, you know, 99.999% of people who fly drones
[757.78] Andy: do it recreationally.
[759.14] Andy: They're hobbyists.
[760.34] Andy: They're not a threat.
[762.02] Andy: And that's not who the program is about.
[764.02] Andy: And I'm like, that's who you were exactly saying the program was about pretty much.
[769.46] Frank: He also says, you know, that he's had loads of experience of drones over the past five,
[773.7] Frank: six years, and all of it has been positive through search and rescue or documentary or
[778.34] Frank: whatever else.
[779.22] Andy: Which was never said in the program.
[781.14] Andy: Not a single positive thing was ever said at all, you know.
[785.78] Andy: All they said, all they talked about was the number of people going into shops and
[791.62] Andy: buying drones.
[792.5] Andy: And it was like in the millions.
[794.74] Curry: And it was very much just think about what you could do with this, what could happen
[799.14] Curry: with this all the way along.
[800.66] Curry: It's like, well, that doesn't mean it's happening as phenomenal.
[804.02] Curry: But it's yeah, it's a sensational thing.
[807.78] Zoe Stumbaugh: No, I mean, there is a lot of sensationalism that's happening now.
[813.14] Zoe Stumbaugh: And I think most of the larger drone stories like Gatwick, for instance, have been kind
[817.78] Zoe Stumbaugh: of blown out of the water by the media to the point of where I personally do not believe
[822.74] Zoe Stumbaugh: there's any evidence that there was an actual drone at Gatwick, that that was kind of people
[827.94] Zoe Stumbaugh: losing their mind, one person reporting there's a drone, the cops, then potentially putting
[832.42] Zoe Stumbaugh: their own drone up in the air.
[834.26] Zoe Stumbaugh: And then the report circulating even further from that.
[837.78] Andy: And it's even worse than that.
[840.42] Andy: There were there were 115 drone sightings of the Gatwick incident, all by Gatwick members
[849.7] Andy: of staff, not a single member of the public.
[852.66] Andy: Also, two days later, it changed hands.
[856.1] Andy: It changed ownership.
[858.1] Andy: So there's a lot of things, you know, and that's what I'm saying is like, if you have
[863.94] Zoe Stumbaugh: and this is what I think is happening or happened, potentially, is that one employee
[867.94] Zoe Stumbaugh: or two employees may have been like, is that a drone over there?
[871.22] Zoe Stumbaugh: That looks like a drone.
[872.42] Zoe Stumbaugh: And they call it on the radio tower.
[874.42] Zoe Stumbaugh: We look like we've got a drone that looks like the Northeast.
[877.86] Zoe Stumbaugh: Can you confirm?
[879.22] Zoe Stumbaugh: And then tower in the tower, they're looking for something, right?
[882.02] Zoe Stumbaugh: And they see something that could be a light off of the crane or whatever.
[885.3] Zoe Stumbaugh: Right.
[886.1] Zoe Stumbaugh: And then all of a sudden, they're asking for firm reports.
[889.14] Zoe Stumbaugh: And then people are, you know, saying, oh, I guess that could be a drone because they're
[893.14] Zoe Stumbaugh: already primed to look for a drone.
[896.02] Zoe Stumbaugh: They see a light in the skies.
[897.62] Zoe Stumbaugh: So it's going to be a drone.
[899.14] Zoe Stumbaugh: They think drones.
[900.02] Zoe Stumbaugh: So obviously, they're going to give that report back.
[902.5] Zoe Stumbaugh: Yeah, I mean, it's really easy for that kind of stuff to happen.
[905.94] Zoe Stumbaugh: I mean, just think about all of the UFO reports that happened, you know, years ago.
[911.78] Zoe Stumbaugh: If you look at the FAA's reporting of UFOs, it dropped off as almost as quickly as the
[919.14] Zoe Stumbaugh: drone reports got rose.
[921.7] Tony: Yeah.
[922.5] Zoe Stumbaugh: So it's kind of like the modern day UFO.
[926.98] Zoe Stumbaugh: I mean, it is a lot.
[927.78] Zoe Stumbaugh: It's an unidentified flying object or unidentified aerial phenomena, whatever freaking phrase
[933.54] Zoe Stumbaugh: you want to use.
[935.14] Zoe Stumbaugh: It is.
[936.34] Zoe Stumbaugh: It's still a thing.
[937.38] Zoe Stumbaugh: And people still freak out over it because humans are humans.
[941.14] Zoe Stumbaugh: And if we can't identify something, I think it's within our pack nature to tell someone
[946.26] Zoe Stumbaugh: else that we don't know what that is for them then to think about what the hell it is.
[951.14] Zoe Stumbaugh: And it kind of creates this almost hysteria.
[955.3] Zoe Stumbaugh: And yeah, like almost so Gatwick was a really interesting case.
[960.74] Curry: For instance, you have something else interesting about the program.
[965.38] Curry: They were talking about the anti-drone measures and talking about something that came into
[969.22] Curry: Gatwick.
[969.62] Curry: And they showed like a couple and literally it's like, this is a jammer.
[972.58] Curry: We're not allowed to fire it.
[973.78] Curry: This is a laser.
[974.5] Curry: We're not allowed to fire it.
[975.7] Curry: But they kept saying that we can't expect airports to spend millions on anti-drone
[981.14] Curry: technology.
[981.78] Curry: It's like, well, if you think about how much Gatwick cost in terms of being shut down over
[987.86] Curry: nothing, then it's probably worth spending millions just to get something that can identify
[993.3] Curry: what this flying thing is.
[995.06] Curry: If the text to be believed and they've got these amazing thermal cameras that can pick
[999.78] Curry: things out for miles, then you can at least say, yeah, that is a drone or, oh, it's just a
[1004.42] Curry: plastic bag or it's a balloon from a kid's pie or whatever.
[1008.26] Zoe Stumbaugh: I love that at least the bigger thing is that so within the US, we have what's currently known
[1013.3] Zoe Stumbaugh: as the FAA Remodernization Act.
[1016.42] Zoe Stumbaugh: And the FAA has been pushing for over the last 10 years now, this concept of the next
[1024.5] Zoe Stumbaugh: gen system, which is trying to create a new set of rules, regulations and technologies
[1032.66] Zoe Stumbaugh: that will enable a whole new airspace system to take flight in the future, basically flying
[1038.34] Zoe Stumbaugh: cars, drones, taking flights for deliveries, long distances, and all of that being integrated
[1044.66] Zoe Stumbaugh: to the national airspace system that's already existing without having it overlap or interfere
[1050.58] Zoe Stumbaugh: with current operations and be able to scale that to hundreds of thousands of operators in the air.
[1057.86] Zoe Stumbaugh: The thing is, is that with that, and this is, I think, kind of the big thing is you're
[1063.62] Zoe Stumbaugh: including a lot more people into the airspace system and naturally you're going to have to
[1069.62] Zoe Stumbaugh: figure out a way to identify them.
[1072.1] Zoe Stumbaugh: And this is where the debate goes like, okay, we have to require remote ID.
[1077.14] Zoe Stumbaugh: Well, remote ID is not going to work for the bad actors.
[1080.58] Zoe Stumbaugh: Remote ID isn't going to keep someone else from taking someone else's remote identification
[1085.7] Zoe Stumbaugh: tag potentially and using it and spoofing stuff like that and creating falsehoods.
[1091.78] Zoe Stumbaugh: What you realistically need is a system that can detect the drones themselves without having to
[1098.1] Zoe Stumbaugh: rely on remote identification and have that in place almost nationwide as far as airports go
[1105.62] Zoe Stumbaugh: and sensitive locations go.
[1107.62] Zoe Stumbaugh: Because going forward, in order for a system where you have hundreds of thousands of more
[1111.86] Zoe Stumbaugh: operators flying around your airspace, you're going to have to have that security on some level.
[1116.98] Zoe Stumbaugh: It's just a matter of figuring out what the hell that is, what makes sense, and then making sure
[1122.5] Zoe Stumbaugh: people understand why it's important.
[1125.86] Zoe Stumbaugh: And it's a really hard argument to figure out.
[1128.1] Zoe Stumbaugh: It's really hard to kind of convey to people.
[1131.06] Jack: Well, it just seems insane that it's the new technology and everyone's like, kill it with
[1136.58] Jack: fire, do you know what I mean?
[1138.02] Andy: Not only that as well, I think, a problem.
[1140.98] Andy: The BBC, we pay out like a license, it's different than in America.
[1146.9] Andy: We pay a license just so that we can watch the BBC and it's supposed to be impartial.
[1154.18] Andy: So, like, America is kind of strange when it comes to what programs are shown because
[1160.9] Andy: it's based on views, isn't it?
[1163.38] Andy: A show will get cancelled if it doesn't have enough views.
[1166.02] Andy: Whereas the BBC over here, the whole idea was that it can show anything and it's to be unbiased.
[1177.06] Andy: Educate, inform, entertain.
[1179.54] Andy: Yeah, and it completely wasn't that, was it?
[1184.02] Andy: It was totally one-sided.
[1186.9] Andy: And then it's like, I'm hearing cases that the news, when it comes to all of the politics,
[1194.02] Andy: it's becoming one-sided and stuff.
[1196.26] Andy: And it's like, no, you can't, that's not what you're paying for.
[1199.3] Andy: So, I understand Tony, you know, not wanting to pay his license fee because we're not getting
[1206.58] Andy: what you're paying for, really, as Tony comes back.
[1210.74] Curry: Presumably, Tony didn't watch it then if he doesn't have a TV license.
[1215.3] Andy: I haven't watched.
[1216.5] Andy: Well, if he went to somebody's house who did have a TV license, that would be fine.
[1222.34] Andy: So, I imagine he would have done that.
[1224.98] Jack: Or someone popped round who did have a TV license and watched it on the internet
[1233.14] Jack: wirelessly with their own 4G network and didn't use a power plug from his house
[1243.38] Jack: to supply power in order to watch it.
[1245.78] Jack: So, as long as it was battery, 4G.
[1248.58] Andy: What's your make about the backtracking, though?
[1252.5] Andy: Yeah, I've seen the backtracking.
[1255.86] Andy: Do you think it's him reacting to a lot of hate because he's obviously quite active on Twitter?
[1261.7] Andy: Or do you think that the program was edited in a way that he didn't think?
[1268.02] Andy: Because I know they always do this thing where they're talking about drones and it's all DJI,
[1276.26] Andy: and then there'll be like a four-minute segment of FPV freestyle pilots,
[1282.1] Andy: and that is exactly what happened.
[1284.26] Andy: And I just wonder, does anybody know those guys, first of all?
[1289.14] Andy: And I would put money on that they did not know that it was going to be an anti-drone program.
[1298.58] Andy: Because, you know, what do you think about that?
[1302.1] Frank: A working title, and they've done a load of filming,
[1305.54] Frank: and they'll have edited it down to a tiny piece of it.
[1308.82] Zoe Stumbaugh: So that's my biggest question.
[1311.3] Zoe Stumbaugh: Having been part of news pieces before, of having news crews come out and film things,
[1317.06] Zoe Stumbaugh: Vice, for instance, they did a whole thing on me, and they made me sound like a sexist asshole.
[1323.06] Zoe Stumbaugh: But it was basically essentially from the questions they were asking.
[1326.26] Zoe Stumbaugh: So they would ask, how does it feel to be a woman in the drone industry?
[1329.62] Zoe Stumbaugh: How does it feel to be competing against all these male competitors?
[1334.1] Zoe Stumbaugh: And then they ask you like 40 other questions that they won't use for the interview,
[1339.54] Zoe Stumbaugh: and then they'll frame it the way they want to frame it in editing.
[1343.78] Zoe Stumbaugh: And editing has so much more to do with it.
[1346.26] Zoe Stumbaugh: Even the host, like you said, he was saying very impartial things.
[1350.82] Zoe Stumbaugh: Like, you know, this drone's been used for a lot of good things,
[1355.22] Zoe Stumbaugh: and you kind of backtrack a lot at the end.
[1357.86] Zoe Stumbaugh: Well, that's really down to the editing and how the editor could have gone to portray everything.
[1363.86] Curry: It's an interesting question, because it's a case of like, did the director set out
[1368.66] Curry: to do it as like a particular sort of hate piece, if you like?
[1372.82] Curry: And then even if the guy was being like quite sort of measured about it, say,
[1377.06] Curry: oh, can we do one more where like act more scared?
[1380.1] Curry: So it's like really shocking.
[1381.38] Curry: And he does a couple of takes on that.
[1383.06] Curry: And they just use all of that.
[1384.5] Curry: And they just use all those and he's coming out on a TV,
[1386.74] Curry: but he doesn't he doesn't want to say, no, they took it all out of context
[1390.34] Curry: because I want to do more working documentaries.
[1392.26] Curry: He's just like, yeah, here's my here's my personal opinion.
[1394.98] Curry: I can't quite figure out where it was coming from.
[1396.9] Curry: Where it was him or the director or the general direction of what they wanted to do.
[1401.62] Andy: He never dismissed the documentary and the sort of the sort of backtrack.
[1406.74] Andy: Did he? It was it was to promote the documentary.
[1410.34] Andy: And then I think he wanted to he was either saying stuff that he wanted to say
[1415.78] Andy: or that he felt like he had to say because he was getting all this hate.
[1419.62] Andy: And I guess we'll never know the answer to that.
[1422.26] Zoe Stumbaugh: You can't go out there and say, you know, they really made a hit piece out of me.
[1425.94] Zoe Stumbaugh: I never want to work with these people again.
[1427.86] Zoe Stumbaugh: Screw the industry.
[1429.46] Zoe Stumbaugh: Like there's like it's really hard to be a working professional.
[1433.62] Zoe Stumbaugh: I would expect in that industry and be able to maintain like your own views,
[1439.78] Zoe Stumbaugh: build a speaker mind, but not cross that line.
[1443.46] Andy: The thing is, there were things that he said that you could not edit.
[1447.46] Andy: He said he said things like, I literally I literally wouldn't get on a plane
[1452.9] Andy: with this information that I've got.
[1456.26] Andy: That's pretty you can't you can't say that.
[1460.1] Andy: You know, you can't someone can't tell you to I refuse to say something.
[1465.22] Andy: If somebody told me right now you got it, he was sat on a plane.
[1468.5] Jack: Well, we've got a recording of you saying that now.
[1473.54] Curry: They're editing.
[1474.82] Curry: And we all know Tony's very gay because he said that.
[1477.7] Curry: And that's that's been interesting to a song now.
[1479.78] Andy: The only problem is, Jack, in order for you in order for you to make use of that,
[1484.26] Andy: I'd have to edit it for you.
[1487.62] Jack: Yeah, true.
[1490.26] Andy: I am happy.
[1493.14] Zoe Stumbaugh: Okay, go for it.
[1493.94] Andy: Sorry.
[1494.9] Andy: No, it's all right.
[1497.06] Andy: He said things that I don't think that he said things that I would refuse to say.
[1502.58] Andy: If somebody said to me, say this, I know that I was being led on.
[1507.62] Curry: It depends.
[1508.18] Curry: It's like, are you acting as a documentary maker?
[1511.86] Curry: Or are you just the mouthpiece for this?
[1513.78] Curry: In which case, here are the words, say them.
[1516.74] Curry: And then we'll do our magic.
[1518.34] Curry: And by the way, if you want to keep making your little adventure series is
[1522.18] Curry: get on and say the words for us because this is the BBC.
[1526.02] Zoe Stumbaugh: It can be more insidious than that, because it could have been them making a documentary
[1530.18] Zoe Stumbaugh: about the potential dangers of drones in the airspace system.
[1534.98] Zoe Stumbaugh: Just by having that whole concept of them looking into the potential dangers,
[1539.14] Zoe Stumbaugh: it frames what they're doing from the get go versus them looking at drones
[1545.06] Zoe Stumbaugh: from a different point of view.
[1546.98] Zoe Stumbaugh: So I guess it really begs the question, what was that initial, you know, concept?
[1553.22] Zoe Stumbaugh: What was it that they're trying to document?
[1556.26] Frank: I would be very interested to know what the working title was that they got everyone involved
[1561.46] Frank: under both the people at Cranfield, I think it was, and the
[1569.22] Andy: secret investigation.
[1570.66] Curry: Frank's been like profiling all the production team.
[1573.94] Curry: He's been getting nazed.
[1577.06] Jack: Like the police are itching to kick in the door.
[1579.7] Jack: What you want to do now is go to Frank's thing.
[1582.66] Jack: And he's got pictures of them with bits of screen.
[1585.94] Frank: With the string with a little thing all leading to that.
[1588.02] Frank: You should see that side of the camera.
[1589.62] Frank: There's just string everywhere.
[1591.14] Andy: Tony, are you still are you still there?
[1592.98] Andy: Because I've got eyes disappeared.
[1595.22] Andy: There's a bottom joke in that.
[1599.94] Andy: Zoe might not understand.
[1601.46] Andy: There's a TV show vehicle bottom.
[1603.54] Andy: And there's a there's a bit in there in one of the episodes where he said he reads it.
[1610.26] Andy: He's on the phone.
[1612.1] Andy: It just says, I don't know.
[1614.9] Andy: He just said go a squad and then all these people, like all these
[1620.18] Andy: like military people smash through the windows and like kill them and stuff.
[1624.42] Andy: And I just have the thought of that happening like instantaneously.
[1628.9] Andy: All of us on Hangouts.
[1631.3] Andy: People smashing.
[1635.38] Jack: Go.
[1635.86] Jack: If any, if any officers are watching this is just isopropanol.
[1640.1] Jack: That was it.
[1641.06] Curry: Tony, I did some sort of film.
[1644.5] Frank: Would you like some consumer information?
[1650.34] Frank: The regulations in the UK.
[1653.62] Curry: Go on, tell us about that.
[1654.82] Curry: Yes.
[1655.3] Curry: Is this is this to do with your talk with the BFMA and how you understand what's coming in?
[1660.42] Curry: No, the BM.
[1663.38] Andy: You said the BFMA.
[1665.46] Andy: First enough.
[1666.42] Andy: British flying model and so that works still.
[1669.3] Curry: Yeah, that's why models.
[1671.14] Curry: Yeah, as long as the first letter and the last letter is correct.
[1673.94] Curry: The stuff in the middle is can be anything.
[1677.54] Andy: It just feels in.
[1678.9] Andy: At least you didn't say six seconds instead of six milliseconds.
[1682.74] Andy: That's another.
[1683.94] Andy: No, I did suggest that the other week.
[1686.5] Curry: Without how long you can laugh.
[1688.34] Curry: A little what's called a toothpick had 65 inch props instead of 65 mil.
[1697.54] Andy: You left it in a video.
[1699.06] Curry: I left it in.
[1700.5] Curry: I couldn't be bothered to record it because it was me talking.
[1702.9] Curry: And I just put a little little title up there saying 65 mil.
[1706.98] Curry: Little asterisk just pops up for a second.
[1710.42] Andy: You can't do that once it's uploaded, man.
[1713.06] Curry: No, it wasn't uploaded.
[1715.38] Curry: I did that, but I couldn't be bothered to go back and rerecord it.
[1717.94] Curry: I'll just put a title up.
[1720.02] Curry: If I had to rerecord everything I got wrong, I'd just be rerecording stuff all day.
[1724.66] Curry: Yeah, that's what I do.
[1727.22] Andy: That's why it takes me four days to make a video.
[1732.02] Andy: Because I just, yeah, just scrutinize it.
[1734.82] Andy: But somehow I missed.
[1736.82] Andy: I said this FPV camera's got a latency of six seconds instead of six really seconds.
[1744.58] Andy: Oh, God.
[1745.54] Andy: That's probably the time now.
[1746.82] Curry: Tony's losing, I think.
[1748.9] Curry: Go on, Frank.
[1749.7] Frank: Tell us more.
[1750.5] Frank: A few days ago, at the beginning of July, in the UK,
[1753.46] Frank: some new laws came into being.
[1756.82] Frank: That means that things are going to change again come July 2020.
[1763.06] Frank: So I have actually made a video with painless outlining all of these.
[1767.22] Frank: But as a quick update for everyone,
[1769.94] Frank: if you've made peace with the registration coming in November,
[1772.74] Frank: wait till what's happening July 2020,
[1775.78] Frank: because there's even more stuff to deal with, including a test at a test center.
[1781.62] Curry: I thought they were joking about those.
[1783.14] Curry: How are they going to fund all that and where the test center's going to be?
[1787.22] Curry: Oh, man.
[1787.94] Curry: £16.50 and not getting a stress to date now.
[1792.34] Frank: Well, the good news is they're not planning to do that themselves.
[1795.14] Frank: They're going to leave that up to other people.
[1799.38] Curry: So they can be charged higher consultancy fees.
[1802.02] Frank: So some of these people may be the NQEs.
[1806.82] Frank: So the people who currently do the tests and the operations manuals and things
[1812.9] Frank: for the permission for commercial operations currently.
[1817.78] Frank: But there may well be a more palatable solution in the works
[1824.26] Frank: that some people may have been on the phone too early or may have been working on.
[1828.74] Andy: You tell us more information than maybe this, maybe that.
[1833.14] Andy: Just say the, if you're trying to set things up.
[1839.38] Frank: That's all I need to know.
[1840.5] Frank: Way, way easier.
[1842.26] Andy: The BMFA do not get enough credit.
[1844.74] Andy: They're doing a lot of work.
[1846.26] Andy: If you look on their website, they've addressed even this program that was on.
[1851.22] Andy: So thumbs up to you guys.
[1853.62] Andy: Keep working for us.
[1854.98] Andy: Yeah.
[1855.46] Frank: They were, Andy, the BMFA was generally very helpful and was on the phone to me
[1862.26] Frank: about an hour ago, telling me all of this information and clarifying everything.
[1867.3] Curry: Well, what is the information?
[1868.98] Frank: In confidence.
[1871.54] Frank: The BMFA are trying to, yeah, it's looking positive,
[1877.3] Frank: but nothing is confirmed that they may be able to help out
[1880.66] Frank: with this certificate of competency that's coming in July 2020.
[1883.94] Curry: All right, well, just to play devil's advocate,
[1886.66] Curry: they did think they'd be able to get their memberships excluded
[1890.5] Curry: or their members excluded from the whole registration things,
[1893.7] Curry: which they kind of failed at.
[1895.3] Frank: They're still convinced that we're not going to be paying,
[1898.58] Frank: or members of the BMFA and the other flying associations
[1901.38] Frank: aren't going to be paying £16.50.
[1904.5] Frank: But again, this is all stuff that is being discussed.
[1908.42] Frank: This is what they're literally doing daily,
[1910.66] Frank: is going into these meetings and discussing all this stuff
[1912.98] Frank: and trying to get a natural answer and a compromise
[1916.5] Frank: on this sort of thing.
[1918.26] Jack: Question, if you own a drone and just have it at your house...
[1923.62] Frank: Straight to prison.
[1924.98] Jack: And don't, really.
[1927.46] Frank: Don't pass go, don't collect a hundred pounds.
[1930.02] Andy: To be fair, to be fair to Jack,
[1932.58] Andy: he's got a lot of stuff other than drones.
[1935.14] Frank: Don't worry about the drones, Jack.
[1936.5] Frank: If you go to jail for a lot of money...
[1938.1] Andy: No worry about Jack's secret drawer.
[1940.9] Andy: Yeah, his secret drawer.
[1942.18] Jack: There's nothing wrong.
[1944.5] Frank: I worry about the parts in Jack's toolbox,
[1947.14] Frank: but I'll leave that to him.
[1949.54] Andy: It's not euphemism.
[1954.18] Andy: Jack's toolbox, it's a mental toolbox.
[1957.46] Andy: It's not a physical one.
[1960.66] Andy: What I've learned.
[1962.02] Andy: I've got a pleasure room.
[1965.7] Andy: He's got a pleasure room.
[1968.26] Andy: Oh, Jack is the pleasure room.
[1972.18] Andy: I'll never forget the first time I flew with Jack
[1978.02] Andy: and I told everybody in my local club this, this weekend.
[1983.3] Andy: I put my FPV goggles on and I got one finger in my ear
[1989.38] Andy: and one up my bum.
[1995.06] Jack: And I was holding a transmitter at the time.
[1997.46] Zoe Stumbaugh: Are you sure you guys aren't a couple?
[1999.3] Zoe Stumbaugh: I mean, the lane homosexuality between y'all is so strong.
[2004.26] Jack: I know, it's great, isn't it?
[2006.74] Jack: We're very inclusive here.
[2009.86] Frank: Richard Warwick in the chat asks, Zoe FPV,
[2016.34] Frank: how are the unicorn sails going?
[2018.66] Zoe Stumbaugh: Oh, good.
[2019.38] Zoe Stumbaugh: I just put in an order for 40 frames.
[2023.54] Zoe Stumbaugh: And most of them are already taken.
[2026.42] Zoe Stumbaugh: So I'm like really stoked.
[2030.5] Zoe Stumbaugh: Yeah, I'm exhausted.
[2032.1] Zoe Stumbaugh: It's taken me like a year to design, source,
[2034.82] Zoe Stumbaugh: manufacture and like do everything with the frame.
[2039.94] Zoe Stumbaugh: Like a lot of people tend to work with another manufacturer
[2044.26] Zoe Stumbaugh: to design their frame.
[2045.7] Zoe Stumbaugh: I didn't go that route with it.
[2047.62] Andy: So that's great.
[2050.82] Zoe Stumbaugh: Yeah, it's taken me a lot of time.
[2052.58] Zoe Stumbaugh: It's just, it's been exhausting.
[2055.46] Zoe Stumbaugh: And then like the freaking hugest issues
[2058.34] Zoe Stumbaugh: that the way the arms integrate with the rail system,
[2062.58] Zoe Stumbaugh: there's all this sloth that was in it.
[2064.74] Zoe Stumbaugh: And so getting rid of the sloth and the issues
[2067.14] Zoe Stumbaugh: that was coming with the unique design just took forever.
[2071.78] Zoe Stumbaugh: So it's finally on a spot that I'm happy with.
[2075.06] Zoe Stumbaugh: And yeah, I'm looking forward to it.
[2077.22] Zoe Stumbaugh: And I'm already working on my new next design.
[2080.42] Zoe Stumbaugh: So I'm, yeah, pretty jazzed.
[2085.22] Andy: Is it a rate, it kind of looks like,
[2088.34] Andy: is it like a freestyle frame for me?
[2090.66] Andy: I've not heard much about it myself.
[2093.7] Zoe Stumbaugh: So it weighs about a hundred grams,
[2096.02] Zoe Stumbaugh: about 105 with all the hardware.
[2101.14] Zoe Stumbaugh: Mostly start with 3D.
[2103.22] Andy: 3D props on that.
[2104.5] Andy: Are those the race craft ones?
[2107.62] Zoe Stumbaugh: Yeah.
[2108.02] Zoe Stumbaugh: So these are actually the Gemfan 3D master props.
[2110.82] Zoe Stumbaugh: Oh, yeah.
[2111.22] Zoe Stumbaugh: I guess they're round.
[2112.74] Zoe Stumbaugh: They've been around for a while.
[2115.14] Zoe Stumbaugh: So yeah, this is mostly my 3D setup.
[2117.3] Zoe Stumbaugh: I actually designed it for the IQ motion control motors,
[2120.18] Zoe Stumbaugh: but I don't have that on this bird.
[2124.34] Zoe Stumbaugh: With these motors and the props,
[2126.26] Zoe Stumbaugh: it gets the center of gravity to a much better angle
[2129.38] Zoe Stumbaugh: and kind of gets it like almost perfected.
[2132.5] Zoe Stumbaugh: So with the GoPro and the battery in line,
[2135.14] Zoe Stumbaugh: when you're doing your transitions and flying,
[2137.78] Zoe Stumbaugh: you don't have a lot of inertia fucking up your momentum.
[2142.18] Zoe Stumbaugh: Because if you have like a really heavy top mounted quad
[2145.3] Zoe Stumbaugh: with a lot of extra weight up here kind of hanging around,
[2149.3] Zoe Stumbaugh: wherever your weight is,
[2150.66] Zoe Stumbaugh: the machine tends to kind of tumble in that direction.
[2154.02] Zoe Stumbaugh: So by minimizing the inertial weight
[2159.54] Zoe Stumbaugh: and kind of getting it kind of centralized,
[2162.1] Zoe Stumbaugh: it really allows the machine to not like tumble
[2165.7] Zoe Stumbaugh: in the wrong direction when you're at very low throttle with 3D.
[2170.42] Zoe Stumbaugh: So that's really cool.
[2172.9] Zoe Stumbaugh: Six millimeter arms.
[2174.82] Zoe Stumbaugh: It's actually six by six millimeter at its thinnest point.
[2179.38] Zoe Stumbaugh: I've yet to break one, which is kind of cool.
[2182.82] Zoe Stumbaugh: The frame itself has been in development for a while.
[2186.02] Zoe Stumbaugh: I've done a lot of crash testing, a lot of revisions,
[2189.3] Zoe Stumbaugh: and really, I want my first frame release to not suck.
[2195.14] Andy: Where are you going to be able to get them from?
[2197.06] Zoe Stumbaugh: So right now, I have it available for $25 from patreon.com slash Zoe FPV.
[2204.02] Zoe Stumbaugh: Wow.
[2204.34] Andy: It's going to be its own success here.
[2206.82] Andy: Oh, so I want to ask Zoe.
[2209.46] Andy: I watched one of your vids a long time ago,
[2211.54] Andy: and I'm ashamed to say I've still not...
[2213.62] Andy: Well, I've done line of sight 3D flying.
[2219.38] Andy: But still not FPV.
[2221.54] Andy: I want to know a bit more about...
[2223.38] Andy: I watched a video that you did once,
[2225.3] Andy: and you talked about motors that...
[2229.54] Andy: Special motors that you were working on.
[2232.02] Andy: And you must...
[2235.78] Andy: I must apologize for my lack of knowledge.
[2238.5] Andy: But I think you mentioned the letter I,
[2242.02] Andy: and it's something to do with the seamless transition of them reversing.
[2247.94] Andy: Is that correct?
[2248.82] Andy: Is that what those motors are, what you've got there?
[2252.18] Zoe Stumbaugh: Yeah.
[2252.66] Zoe Stumbaugh: Yeah.
[2252.9] Zoe Stumbaugh: So these are the IQMush control motors.
[2255.62] Andy: They're pretty amazing.
[2258.1] Andy: Is that like...
[2258.66] Andy: There's like...
[2259.3] Andy: I can see some heat shrink and something like...
[2263.62] Andy: What's that in the heat shrink?
[2264.74] Andy: Is there a sensor or something that makes them more smooth?
[2268.5] Andy: How does it work?
[2269.86] Zoe Stumbaugh: Yeah.
[2270.26] Zoe Stumbaugh: So they look pretty unassuming.
[2273.46] Zoe Stumbaugh: Most people apply to see this and just think,
[2275.22] Zoe Stumbaugh: oh, it's just another motor.
[2276.66] Zoe Stumbaugh: Yeah.
[2277.3] Zoe Stumbaugh: But they actually have a really advanced design
[2280.34] Zoe Stumbaugh: that most probably can't even get close to.
[2284.82] Zoe Stumbaugh: So the thing that's here on the heat shrink,
[2287.14] Zoe Stumbaugh: that's actually a capacitor.
[2288.5] Zoe Stumbaugh: I was going to say, it looks like a capacitor.
[2289.86] Zoe Stumbaugh: That's just simply a big power.
[2293.06] Zoe Stumbaugh: And each arm has a capacitor.
[2295.22] Zoe Stumbaugh: That's just for smoothing.
[2296.82] Zoe Stumbaugh: It makes things nicer, allows it to go to stick cell.
[2300.58] Zoe Stumbaugh: And so your ESC and motor are actually in the same module.
[2304.34] Zoe Stumbaugh: Like everything is right here.
[2306.5] Zoe Stumbaugh: Oh, a bit like DJI do that, don't they?
[2310.42] Andy: They have that ESC put underneath the motor.
[2313.62] Andy: So that's the same then with that one.
[2315.38] Andy: There's an ESC under there.
[2318.26] Zoe Stumbaugh: Very close.
[2318.9] Zoe Stumbaugh: Yeah, very much so.
[2321.22] Zoe Stumbaugh: Except there's a huge difference.
[2323.06] Zoe Stumbaugh: With the ESC itself, it's actually a censored module.
[2326.42] Zoe Stumbaugh: So they have a really high-end variation of a Hall Effect sensor.
[2334.34] Zoe Stumbaugh: It's very sensitive.
[2335.3] Zoe Stumbaugh: And it allows the motor to actually sense exactly the position of the bell housing.
[2341.7] Zoe Stumbaugh: And by being able to do that and actually sense the magnetic field of the motor itself,
[2347.86] Zoe Stumbaugh: it can actually manipulate the field of the motor very precisely
[2352.74] Zoe Stumbaugh: and it gains efficiency and power because of that.
[2356.66] Zoe Stumbaugh: And it allows the motor to stop and start spinning a lot faster and seamlessly
[2362.98] Zoe Stumbaugh: without any kind of judder or transition, like start and stop.
[2367.22] Andy: Yeah, because that's the issue, I guess, with 3D is that there's the transition
[2373.14] Andy: when they switch direction.
[2376.42] Andy: So it's to combat that basically.
[2378.26] Andy: It's sensing exactly...
[2379.94] Andy: Wouldn't this new...
[2382.9] Andy: I'm quite naive here, but is it doing something similar to the
[2389.94] Andy: Betafly RPM filters that are being sort of...
[2395.86] Andy: Are you aware of this with Betafly?
[2397.86] Andy: And so they're using the telemetry of the RPM to...
[2406.82] Andy: Like, it's kind of like just more feedback from the motors to make a smoother flight.
[2412.42] Andy: Is it that kind of thing?
[2416.18] Zoe Stumbaugh: So there's that aspect to it.
[2419.86] Zoe Stumbaugh: So the motors allow a completely closed-loop system
[2424.34] Zoe Stumbaugh: and allows the feedback from the motor to be extremely accurate,
[2428.98] Zoe Stumbaugh: more so than what's currently being offered with...
[2435.46] Andy: Sorry, Zoe.
[2436.26] Andy: We have to endure this.
[2437.46] Zoe Stumbaugh: Also, I just realized it's picture in picture in picture in picture in picture.
[2444.1] Curry: I have to say, I tried 3D FPV one time.
[2448.18] Curry: I have to try it again because it was ages ago and it was on a really wobbly quad.
[2451.62] Curry: But the funniest thing I had with it is when I crashed,
[2454.58] Curry: my automatic response is to put the throttle straight down.
[2457.62] Curry: And of course, it then flies upside down into the air and full throttle.
[2462.18] Curry: And it's like, oh, well, I forgot.
[2463.46] Curry: I have to disarm or get the throttle to the middle position.
[2466.9] Curry: I have to get another quad if I got time,
[2469.62] Curry: because it must have got a lot better since I did it a few years ago now.
[2474.02] Andy: I can do it in liftoff.
[2475.7] Andy: I've just never tried it.
[2476.82] Andy: I can even inverted go through gates.
[2481.86] Andy: Once you realize that the roll stays the same,
[2488.26] Andy: then I think the roll stays the same and everything else is backwards,
[2493.22] Andy: then you can convert.
[2497.38] Andy: So in liftoff, I can do it.
[2499.7] Andy: But probably quite different in real life, I would imagine.
[2503.14] Andy: But when you're inverted, the one thing that stays the same is the roll.
[2507.86] Andy: So all you have to do is when you're flying normally is, well,
[2511.54] Andy: pitching backwards is forwards, but your roll is the same.
[2515.46] Andy: So when you do a turn upside down, whatever your maneuver you will put in,
[2522.18] Andy: you're putting the opposite.
[2523.3] Andy: So you're actually sticks both in and sticks both out.
[2527.06] Andy: Well, for me, because I'm mode one.
[2529.54] Andy: But so yeah, that's no, you didn't get kicked.
[2533.3] Andy: You didn't get kicked, Jack.
[2534.34] Andy: I don't know what happened.
[2535.06] Andy: You just disappeared, dude.
[2536.58] Andy: You said the call was ended.
[2538.02] Jack: I thought I'd triggered our overlords.
[2543.7] Andy: You may have done.
[2544.98] Andy: You might have done too much fire.
[2547.3] Andy: What did that guy say?
[2548.58] Andy: Jerome users are clueless.
[2550.5] Andy: You had a t-shirt made, especially clueless.
[2553.78] Frank: Careless criminal.
[2555.7] Andy: Oh, that was another thing we had.
[2557.14] Andy: Zoe, go on, Andy.
[2559.14] Andy: Just briefly give a summary of that to Zoe.
[2561.78] Frank: It's a government parliamentary group.
[2565.7] Frank: So basically a kind of representatives of the public telling the MPs,
[2573.38] Frank: our politicians, what's going on in the world of drones and the guy who's in charge of the
[2580.34] Frank: integration of unmanned aerial vehicles into the National Air Traffic Control
[2589.06] Frank: says that there's three types of drone users, careless, clueless, and criminal.
[2594.42] Zoe Stumbaugh: Yeah, that's actually a place that's been repeated by the FAA
[2598.82] Zoe Stumbaugh: and several higher ups within the FAA.
[2601.22] Andy: It's a shame that Tony's not in the stream because yeah,
[2607.14] Andy: I believe Kelsey got to have a go back to class.
[2611.7] Andy: Yeah, I'd love to know.
[2615.14] Zoe Stumbaugh: Pardon?
[2616.82] Zoe Stumbaugh: I saw that on Instagram.
[2618.26] Zoe Stumbaugh: I was super stoked to see that.
[2619.78] Zoe Stumbaugh: I want to see the flight.
[2621.7] Curry: Yeah, I love it.
[2622.98] Curry: Let any of us fly it.
[2624.18] Curry: But yeah, one, yeah, special treatment.
[2627.06] Jack: Yeah, well, I thought it was a bit weird how he got her to sit on his lap whilst doing it.
[2634.66] Jack: Yeah, just burn it out there.
[2637.38] Jack: No, that did not happen.
[2638.5] Jack: I'm sorry, Tony.
[2639.22] Andy: Kelsey's an exceptional flyer.
[2643.22] Andy: So I understand why she got to get a go and I didn't.
[2648.9] Andy: Although, Tony, I figured out how to do buddy box systems.
[2653.3] Andy: So, you know.
[2655.06] Jack: Yeah, that's the point.
[2656.1] Jack: Exciting news.
[2657.22] Jack: Old mode one can have a go now.
[2660.1] Andy: Yeah, I figured out.
[2661.54] Andy: Well, I know Wayne did this a while ago, but I've done it for my friend and we're doing
[2669.78] Andy: buddy box flying.
[2670.98] Andy: So there's no excuse now, Tony, even though you're not here, probably in the chat.
[2676.42] Andy: I want to go to your ex-class.
[2679.62] Andy: And I can do it.
[2680.58] Andy: I just need your transmitter for.
[2683.06] Frank: Jack wants me to buddy box in fixed wing for some reason.
[2687.14] Andy: Really?
[2687.62] Jack: I'm all for that.
[2689.38] Andy: No, you're not.
[2690.98] Andy: I've seen you.
[2691.7] Andy: I've seen you do it.
[2693.46] Andy: Well, fine.
[2696.1] Zoe Stumbaugh: The hard part for fixing for me is taking off and landing.
[2699.46] Zoe Stumbaugh: Like once it's up in the air, I can like 3D a plane.
[2702.34] Zoe Stumbaugh: No problem.
[2703.14] Zoe Stumbaugh: It's just getting it up in the air to begin with.
[2706.18] Andy: That's the fun thing about planes is that you can prop hang.
[2711.14] Andy: No, I think when she says 3D, I think you mean I think she means fly upside down because playing.
[2718.18] Zoe Stumbaugh: I mean, I feel like hopping and like actually yeah.
[2723.54] Zoe Stumbaugh: Yeah, that's like I thought it wasn't too bad at it, actually.
[2726.82] Andy: Take off and landing is the most difficult part because of the talk from the motor.
[2732.18] Andy: So you're always especially if you're taking off.
[2735.22] Andy: I mean, the hand launch is really difficult because you're essentially, you know, just
[2742.42] Andy: chucking something that isn't flying for a little bit.
[2746.18] Andy: And then all of a sudden, it's got enough speed to fly.
[2748.9] Andy: So that's really, you know, you'll definitely dip a wing on most throws.
[2755.46] Andy: And then taking off from the ground is difficult because you've got the talk of the motor.
[2760.26] Andy: So you have to come back from that.
[2761.7] Andy: And then if it's a tail dragger, you've got to make sure that it's not going to tip over.
[2766.5] Andy: If you've got a front nose wheel, then, you know, you've got to make sure that that's not going to,
[2772.34] Andy: you know, steer like erratically and stuff.
[2775.86] Andy: So yeah, that's why I like quads.
[2779.14] Andy: Well, well, the fun thing about quads is that the takeoff and landing is like a crash,
[2785.54] Andy: essentially, isn't it?
[2786.58] Andy: Like the takeoff is just, you know, just get yourself off the ground as quick as possible.
[2793.06] Andy: And then most landings end up with the quad upside down.
[2796.02] Andy: Well, certainly in my case, and that's acceptable.
[2799.38] Andy: But with a plane, of course, you do quite a bit of repair when you land like that.
[2804.98] Curry: I enjoy the risk factor of throwing a wing up with the FPV goggles on
[2809.06] Curry: because you throw it and then all you can see is sky.
[2811.86] Curry: And you're like, where am I right now?
[2814.26] Curry: And I go horizon or sometimes just ground and grass comes up.
[2818.02] Curry: But if you can get the horizon, you're like, I'm back in and then you could.
[2821.7] Andy: Wayne, all you're doing there is just, you know, you're fulfilling the clueless,
[2828.34] Andy: the careless criminal throwing a wing with FPV goggles.
[2834.42] Andy: But you're just looking at nothing.
[2836.82] Andy: It could be flying into a small puppy or something.
[2840.9] Andy: What are you doing?
[2842.02] Curry: It's fine.
[2842.82] Curry: I've barely killed any children.
[2845.3] Jack: Just a couple.
[2846.74] Jack: This could be weaponized instantly.
[2849.7] Jack: I mean, you know.
[2852.34] Jack: But here's the thing.
[2852.98] Curry: If I launched my flight, I'd be like, that's flying OK.
[2856.82] Curry: Then I'd be like, I'll just take my glasses off.
[2858.42] Curry: Now, where'd I put my goggles?
[2859.46] Curry: There they are.
[2859.94] Curry: And by that time, it's crashed anyway.
[2861.54] Curry: So I just have to go the whole hog and just launch and land an FPV.
[2867.22] Zoe Stumbaugh: Can we talk about the whole weaponizing drone thing for a second ago?
[2870.66] Zoe Stumbaugh: Oh, yeah.
[2871.14] Andy: Yeah.
[2871.38] Andy: Let's let's let's turn it down.
[2878.5] Andy: Jack, I just got a message.
[2880.82] Andy: Sorry.
[2881.06] Andy: Just before we start, I got a message off Phil.
[2883.7] Andy: He said it just says, this is what you've done to my friend, Phil.
[2889.62] Andy: I got I got a message and he just said, suck it, Jack.
[2895.7] Andy: I told you, you've broken my friend and Phil.
[2898.18] Andy: What have you done?
[2899.22] Jack: I like it.
[2900.26] Jack: Look, he was.
[2901.06] Jack: I told you he was naturally this way.
[2903.94] Jack: I've just made him find himself.
[2906.82] Andy: Phil.
[2908.02] Andy: So I got I got I got a friend named Phil.
[2910.82] Andy: He taught me how to fly.
[2912.66] Andy: Like when I was like, you know, 12 30 and stuff and I introduced him to Jack
[2917.54] Andy: and he slowly I have to be careful what I say.
[2922.66] Curry: Coming over to the dark side is perhaps the way of phrasing it.
[2926.42] Andy: He's Jack's done something to him that's just made him say things.
[2932.02] Andy: I've not heard him say before.
[2935.22] Andy: And I'm like, you've been watching too many.
[2937.14] Andy: Let's draw now.
[2939.54] Jack: Anyway,
[2942.5] Jack: weaponizing any tips and tricks.
[2948.02] Zoe Stumbaugh: So so like almost I would say everything on Earth can be weaponized.
[2952.02] Zoe Stumbaugh: It's just a matter of people using that as a reason to, you know, not do something
[2957.46] Zoe Stumbaugh: and or to combat something because like inherently drones are really powerful platforms.
[2963.06] Zoe Stumbaugh: I mean, it's essentially like the new age of transportation allows us to do things
[2968.74] Zoe Stumbaugh: that we haven't been able to do as a society because it opens up new realms of possibilities.
[2975.14] Zoe Stumbaugh: And with those new possibilities, I mean, people are obviously going to think about
[2979.14] Zoe Stumbaugh: how to weaponize it.
[2980.34] Zoe Stumbaugh: I mean, that's just a fact of nature.
[2983.7] Zoe Stumbaugh: People have been weaponizing things since the stone age.
[2987.38] Zoe Stumbaugh: We took a rock.
[2988.66] Zoe Stumbaugh: We sharpened a rock and we started killing things with the rock.
[2993.86] Jack: Look, Tony's only just worked that out.
[2996.66] Jack: Oh, no.
[3000.02] Zoe Stumbaugh: So I guess it's like the whole like drones are bad because they can be weaponized.
[3005.22] Zoe Stumbaugh: Well, anything can be weaponized.
[3007.06] Zoe Stumbaugh: And using that argument is just silly and does not really give credence to all the amazing
[3013.86] Zoe Stumbaugh: and wonderful things that drones can do and that we should be focusing our time on trying
[3019.54] Zoe Stumbaugh: to make them do.
[3021.38] Zoe Stumbaugh: And I think that's what you know, that they should the BBC should totally release another
[3026.58] Zoe Stumbaugh: documentary that counters that, that shows the real possibilities of how drones are saving
[3032.18] Zoe Stumbaugh: lives, changing the world and making things a better place.
[3035.86] Andy: Oh, they did about four, four seconds on that.
[3039.06] Jack: What I love is Mr. Marine, right?
[3042.26] Jack: He's bound to have lost buddies during warfare.
[3045.3] Jack: And it's like, dude, how if you had the drone tech back then, or you had drones that could
[3051.14] Jack: do fighting for you and save your friends lives, I bet you'd be really down with that.
[3056.74] Frank: It does say in the interview that he's seen them used for good.
[3062.98] Frank: The other thing that we know from the people that we've spoken to in the armed forces that
[3067.62] Frank: you know, if out in on the battlefield, if you see a drone, that's not a good thing.
[3074.9] Frank: You want to be far away from that because it's probably someone has weaponized it.
[3079.38] Curry: Well, I do tend to think that that's where the word drone came from was the military tech,
[3083.62] Curry: the Raptor and the whatever, basically blowing up people in Arabic countries for years and years.
[3091.86] Curry: And that they just, the words come over to us and like, well, it must be a weapon then.
[3096.98] Andy: Well, it's a type of B, I believe, and it extend it stemmed from that, didn't it?
[3102.5] Andy: Where they were sending autonomous bombs in World War Two.
[3107.38] Andy: That's where drone came from, I believe.
[3109.7] Frank: Or the target practice with the radio control on it, the Queen B was the drone.
[3117.46] Jack: I think she showed a bit of that, didn't they?
[3119.38] Jack: No, that was on Adam Savage's.
[3122.18] Jack: What was it called again?
[3126.74] Jack: Savage Builds.
[3127.78] Jack: Yeah, Savage Builds that me and Frank legally watched.
[3131.86] Andy: I haven't watched it.
[3133.3] Andy: Turin, are you with us?
[3134.82] Andy: Kind of.
[3136.18] Andy: How did Kelsey get on with the X-Class? Why did she get a go and not me?
[3141.06] Jack: Yeah.
[3141.54] Andy: You're all idiots and she can fly great.
[3144.26] Andy: Good answer.
[3144.9] Andy: Yeah.
[3145.38] Tony: That's a truthful answer.
[3148.5] Tony: Carry on.
[3149.54] Curry: As you were.
[3151.14] Andy: As you were, that was absolutely correct.
[3153.54] Curry: You just do want to risk putting his radio in your hands again.
[3156.82] Curry: What would happen this time?
[3158.02] Curry: It's the question.
[3158.66] Tony: It's the correct answer and it's true.
[3160.98] Tony: Well, you have seen you all fly and your parents compared to her.
[3166.82] Tony: She's in it, she can freestyle, she can race.
[3172.42] Tony: I just trusted her more than anything of you, look.
[3175.14] Andy: When I spoke to her on the Saturday, I said, how's the racing going?
[3179.7] Andy: And she said, I think I'm currently 29th.
[3183.3] Andy: And I thought, that sounds like quite high.
[3186.9] Andy: But then you realize there were 72 people that turned up and I'm like 29th.
[3192.74] Andy: I would not, I'd be 72nd.
[3197.14] Andy: That's amazing.
[3198.02] Andy: She's an amazing pilot.
[3199.3] Andy: Speaking of Kelsey, one of my favourites.
[3202.82] Frank: Speaking of Kelsey, as we wrap up, Jack, do you want to go over and remind everyone
[3208.98] Frank: about the competition that we're running for our fourth year anniversary.
[3215.46] Frank: So starting from episode 100 up to episode 208.
[3220.5] Frank: Can you just talk?
[3221.86] Jack: You tell them.
[3223.54] Frank: Droneers Life have sponsored us for this competition by giving us a ton of goodies,
[3228.98] Frank: which Jack is displaying on the screen when I actually click the link.
[3235.7] Frank: He's trying to display.
[3237.7] Frank: There we go.
[3238.74] Frank: Lots of goodies hanging around out there.
[3241.46] Frank: And all you have to do to be in with a chance of winning these goodies is to find your best
[3247.94] Frank: parts of LDO, either snippets of audio or video or time stamps or whatever else.
[3254.66] Frank: Your favourite moments from LDO over the past four years
[3258.34] Frank: and send them to us either through facebook.com or at emails.
[3264.82] Frank: So let's drone out at gmail.com and we will be picking them on the oh, hold on.
[3272.5] Frank: I haven't thought this far ahead yet.
[3274.5] Frank: It was the week before then, which is the 15th of August.
[3280.58] Frank: We will be picking our favourite suggestions that you send in.
[3285.86] Frank: And then on the 20 seconds, that is our 2008 episode, our four year special.
[3291.54] Frank: That is when we will be announcing it.
[3293.78] Jack: All right.
[3294.26] Jack: Thank you.
[3294.58] Jack: You've been listening to Let's Drone Out, where we do not support your views on terror,
[3299.06] Jack: even though apparently we are terrorists.
[3301.06] Jack: Just ask the BBC.
[3302.34] Jack: You've been joined by Andrew slash Frank.
[3305.46] Jack: Bye everyone's favourite reviewer who's not Albert Kim and ERC.
[3315.86] Jack: Who actually puts in some effort into reviewing things and gives us really accurate information,
[3324.42] Jack: like six seconds of delay and ERC.
[3328.74] Andy: Thanks.
[3329.3] Andy: Thanks, everybody.
[3333.14] Andy: I'm speechless, but for the first time, bye.
[3337.14] Jack: If you're a really good flyer and you're a girl, Tony will let you have a go.
[3343.22] Jack: My little Tony.
[3345.46] Andy: That's not just limited to X class, by the way.
[3348.5] Jack: Don't take that clip out of context, by the way.
[3351.7] Jack: Everyone's favourite dad reviewer.
[3354.58] Jack: Is that a reviewer of dads?
[3357.3] Jack: Yeah, it's race by dads.
[3362.82] Jack: Will one day solve the mystery of the missing pen, Curry Kitten.
[3367.46] Jack: Bye-bye.
[3368.66] Jack: You're flying your unicorn upside down.
[3370.98] Zoe Stumbaugh: WFPV.
[3374.98] Zoe Stumbaugh: Thank you for watching.
[3376.34] Zoe Stumbaugh: Bye.
[3378.98] Jack: And I've been right until I fly.
[3382.18] Jack: Thank you very much.
[3383.22] Jack: Thank our Patreons.
[3384.58] Jack: Thank everyone who donated because that stops Frank from killing me and stressing out.
[3389.22] Jack: And it keeps the show going because it's not been too good lately.
[3395.94] Jack: Thank you.
[3396.42] Jack: Good night.
[3398.5] Jack: Telemetry lost.
[3400.5] Frank: There's three types of drone users, careless, clueless and criminal.
[3404.26] Andy: Is that true?
[3405.38] UNKNOWN: I literally wouldn't get on a plane with this information that I've got.
