[667.32] SPEAKER_05: So what we're talking about here is the new DJI FPV system that they announced yesterday, end of July.
[676.32] SPEAKER_05: And it is a 720p 28 millisecond latency supposedly down to FPV system,
[687.32] SPEAKER_05: but it's fairly sizable and not very cheap.
[692.32] Curry: It's about $1,000, which I think, call me a cynic, will translate here as approximately £1,000 when it's released.
[700.32] Mikey Trench: No, it's £919 here.
[704.32] Mikey Trench: Has it got the actual price up then?
[707.32] Mikey Trench: You can buy it now, but it's sold out within about three seconds.
[711.32] Tony: What would it sell out? I don't even... I don't get it.
[716.32] Curry: Well, I understand people wanting to fly in HD because you'll be able to see more stuff,
[722.32] Curry: but it's sizable certainly in terms of the VTX and receiver combo.
[728.32] Curry: It's not going to easily fit into many existing quads, is it?
[733.32] Mikey Trench: I mean, I've been saying this now for like two years.
[737.32] Mikey Trench: The next big leap in FPV is going to be HD FPV, and that's what's holding it back.
[744.32] Mikey Trench: And then it's come out, so it's no surprise to me.
[748.32] Mikey Trench: Even though this is definitely not the one you should buy,
[753.32] Mikey Trench: it's no surprise to me that a bunch of people have gone out and bought it.
[758.32] Tony: It had to be coming, didn't it?
[761.32] Tony: But I don't think it's going to be good for us a lot in Europe,
[765.32] Tony: compared to FCC in America and stuff.
[768.32] Mikey Trench: Well, according to... If you go on DJI's website now and buy it,
[774.32] Mikey Trench: it's got all of the same... It's like universal, so I'm not sure...
[779.32] Tony: Well, I think... I thought FCC versus Europe is different.
[784.32] Tony: There's a 4K range, but the CE mode is only 700 meters.
[790.32] Curry: And then a couple of S channels, I understood.
[793.32] Mikey Trench: Well, yeah, four channels instead of eight.
[796.32] Mikey Trench: Where did that come from? Because it doesn't say that on the website.
[800.32] Curry: They talked about that in the Rotorite review, I think,
[804.32] Curry: because they were talking about the range,
[806.32] Curry: and they took out 2.9K or something before they lost it.
[811.32] Curry: But they were quite low down, to be fair.
[813.32] Curry: And then they said the range in Europe is something like 700 meters or something.
[818.32] Mikey Trench: But they also said that it doesn't do analog when it does.
[823.32] Mikey Trench: So I think...
[826.32] SPEAKER_05: But I think it has an analog video input, I believe.
[830.32] SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it is.
[832.32] SPEAKER_05: It's not like it can receive normal...
[836.32] SPEAKER_05: It's not like you can put a module in it and you can't use it to receive automatically.
[841.32] SPEAKER_05: It's just like any other screen with an analog input.
[844.32] Mikey Trench: From what I understand, what those guys...
[849.32] Mikey Trench: What is weird is the people who received units
[854.32] Mikey Trench: aren't reviewers, they're entertainment channels.
[858.32] Mikey Trench: So you couldn't really get much information from it.
[862.32] Mikey Trench: There was like, what resolution of the screens, for example?
[867.32] Mikey Trench: What technology are they? Are they OLED? Are they LED?
[870.32] Mikey Trench: None of that information is there.
[873.32] SPEAKER_05: They didn't even receive a unit.
[875.32] SPEAKER_05: They got invited out and they had a play with it for a short period of time.
[880.32] SPEAKER_05: But they never got to take it away.
[883.32] SPEAKER_05: It's not like it's been given to anyone.

[886.32] Curry: Why was that not the case with Umagard's review?
[890.32] Curry: Because Roto and Rolly are selling it in their store.
[893.32] Mikey Trench: No, they're a bit of a dropship in it.
[896.32] Mikey Trench: Sorry, I shouldn't say that.
[898.32] Curry: All right. Well, whichever they're doing, they're sort of carrying it.
[901.32] Curry: They put some on this, like, that's one step beyond an affiliate, isn't it?
[905.32] Curry: It's like, I've got a vested interest in it.
[907.32] Curry: Because they mentioned, for example,
[909.32] Curry: okay, it's using a 5.8 GHz frequency in both control and video.
[914.32] Curry: And they said, oh, I wonder what happens when you plug in an analog VTX.
[918.32] Curry: It's not like they haven't got 50 hanging up behind them.
[921.32] Curry: Nobody plugged it in to show us what would happen, did they?
[925.32] Mikey Trench: Well, I'll tell you what will happen, because it happens when you fly
[930.32] Mikey Trench: a DJI model with OcuSync, you get a load of lines in your analog.
[936.32] Mikey Trench: And you can just about fly one analog FPV model,
[942.32] Mikey Trench: but it's that powerful that, yeah, you struggle to fly analog at the same time as it.
[951.32] Mikey Trench: But I don't think I can.
[954.32] Mikey Trench: I think it's a great thing.
[956.32] Mikey Trench: I wouldn't buy this version of it.
[958.32] Mikey Trench: And to make things even more interesting,
[960.32] Mikey Trench: it sort of made people show their deck of cards,
[966.32] Mikey Trench: because Fat Shark have announced, oh, we've got this competing one
[973.32] Mikey Trench: that actually will plug into your goggles, and it's more, you know, we've been working on it.
[978.32] SPEAKER_05: I think that's the DJI version, I don't think,
[982.32] SPEAKER_05: is really aimed at us as existing FPVers.
[985.32] SPEAKER_05: Because, I mean, if you look at it, it's also got this radio system built into it
[990.32] SPEAKER_05: to do control with a very DJI, standard DJI kind of phantom type controller.
[997.32] SPEAKER_05: And that's all built into it. It's a fairly big system.
[1001.32] SPEAKER_05: I don't think it's aimed at racers or freestylers or hobbyists.
[1005.32] SPEAKER_05: And I think that's probably why it hasn't gone out to reviewers
[1007.32] SPEAKER_05: and why it has gone to entertainment channels
[1011.32] SPEAKER_05: where they've got, you know, professional video editing,
[1015.32] SPEAKER_05: all that kind of thing, where it's heavily, heavily produced,
[1018.32] SPEAKER_05: because that's what they're selling it for.
[1020.32] SPEAKER_05: They're not selling it for us to use as a hobbyist.
[1022.32] SPEAKER_05: They're selling it for cinematography and videographers
[1025.32] SPEAKER_05: who've seen the Cinewoop stuff and want something to do that.
[1031.32] SPEAKER_05: And DJI are going, well, that's a market
[1033.32] SPEAKER_05: that our current user base are looking to get into.
[1037.32] SPEAKER_05: Let's sell them something that will help them stay within our kind of ecosystem.
[1043.32] Mikey Trench: Yeah, I wouldn't half be surprised if they come out with their own
[1047.32] Mikey Trench: quadcopter as well.
[1050.32] Curry: So let me ask a follow-up question there.
[1052.32] Curry: What do people know or what can people say if they know anything
[1055.32] Curry: about the Fat Shark system that is going?
[1059.32] SPEAKER_05: That's for Zoe.
[1061.32] SPEAKER_05: I know people know stuff about it,
[1065.32] SPEAKER_05: but I also know that they haven't been able to talk about it for a long time.
[1070.32] SPEAKER_05: There's been word about an HD system being developed in the background
[1074.32] SPEAKER_05: by a secret cabal of FPV companies for quite a long while.
[1078.32] SPEAKER_05: And it looks like they haven't been planning to release this at this point
[1082.32] SPEAKER_05: because there's pretty much, as far as I can tell,
[1085.32] SPEAKER_05: just the one Facebook post put out by Fat Shark about the Biked Frost HD system.
[1092.32] SPEAKER_05: That's it.
[1093.32] SPEAKER_05: What a great name.
[1094.32] Curry: Which is pretty much, hey, don't all jump off and buy that yet.
[1098.32] Curry: There's something coming from us that's going to be more modular
[1100.32] Curry: and more useful, I suppose.
[1102.32] SPEAKER_05: Yeah, but if you look at the picture that is there,
[1105.32] SPEAKER_05: it's a board that isn't even soldered up to anything.
[1109.32] SPEAKER_05: They've just kind of roughly mounted it onto a quad.
[1113.32] SPEAKER_05: And I suspect that was kind of a quick panic, get something out.
[1118.32] Mikey Trench: You could argue that's what the DJI thing was there as well
[1122.32] Mikey Trench: because there's, you know, nothing.
[1125.32] Tony: It doesn't appeal to anyone here because it doesn't mean.

[1130.32] Curry: Flying an HD appeals, but I'm not spending none of the quid on it.

[1228.32] Tony: Yeah, that's like the license entropment.
[1230.32] Tony: What don't exist and drive around and go, hey, there he is over there.

[1238.32] Mikey Trench: Because I had a quad years ago fly away,
[1243.32] Mikey Trench: a spectrum transmitter.

[1249.32] Mikey Trench: And I was driving around to try and find it
[1252.32] Mikey Trench: and I got to the street and fat shot one,
[1257.32] Mikey Trench: perfectly clear Sky Sports picture and I was like,

[1264.32] Tony: Well, we've been out before and tuned in to someone on Sky TV.
[1268.32] Curry: Did you ever figure your quad had just taken the day off
[1271.32] Curry: and was watching some TV?
[1272.32] Curry: Perhaps.
[1273.32] Curry: It wasn't just Sky Sports.
[1275.32] Curry: My local shopping centre broadcasts its security channels on 5.28.
[1280.32] Curry: I can pick up two of them.
[1282.32] Curry: I had the same thing. I was looking for a quad.
[1284.32] Curry: I was about 200, 300 meters away from where it was
[1287.32] Curry: just going and trying to pick up a tiny.
[1289.32] Curry: We've been sitting here, I'm seeing this car driving down
[1292.32] Curry: and it's like, what's going on there?
[1293.32] Curry: Very odd.
[1294.32] SPEAKER_05: Yeah, the field up in St. Albans where I used to fly,
[1299.32] SPEAKER_05: there was all the CCTV around there was all on 5.8 as well.
[1302.32] SPEAKER_05: And sometimes you're like, no, that shouldn't be broadcast.
[1307.32] SPEAKER_05: That's not meant to be broadcast.
[1309.32] Mikey Trench: This could be a problem for this system.
[1312.32] Mikey Trench: In fact, I think that was raised that you're not to fly near any Wi-Fi.
[1317.32] Mikey Trench: And it's like, well, you know, there's no Wi-Fi around places
[1322.32] Curry: and towns and things.
[1323.32] Mikey Trench: There's Wi-Fi everywhere.
[1325.32] Mikey Trench: The bus drive past, it's got Wi-Fi.
[1328.32] Tony: Mikey Dred says it's taken me a year to upgrade to the HDOs.
[1332.32] Tony: I'm not changing for at least two years.
[1334.32] Mikey Trench: I tell you now, if it hadn't have sold out,
[1337.32] Mikey Trench: I'd have stupidly bought one.

[2706.32] Mikey Trench: I said, if they could ever get this into FPV, then that's going to be the next big thing.
[2715.32] Mikey Trench: However, when I got to about 200 meters away, the same thing started happening.
[2722.32] Mikey Trench: The corners started getting blurry.
[2725.32] Mikey Trench: The entire resolution started getting blurry.
[2728.32] Mikey Trench: They've got sort of like an adaptive thing that reduces the bandwidth when you get further away
[2735.32] Mikey Trench: so that you maintain the latency.
[2740.32] Mikey Trench: I think it's just a progression of what they've been doing for a while.
[2745.32] Tony: Remember, we've only seen the best bits.
[2753.32] Tony: We've not seen the European side of it because I've heard on the grapevine
[2758.32] Tony: it's going to be half the channels and 700 meters.
[2762.32] Mikey Trench: Well, if you look on GGI's website, the UK version, it does not say that.
[2769.32] Mikey Trench: If you buy a GGI model now in the UK, I think actually there is a CE version of the air.
[2782.32] Mikey Trench: The Mavic air is limited to 2 kilometers, whereas the FCC version I think is 4,
[2790.32] Mikey Trench: but you can unlock it by just pressing a couple of buttons.
[2795.32] Mikey Trench: If that's the case, I imagine they wouldn't come up with different hardware.
[2800.32] Curry: What that is, they limit the amount of channels you have.
[2805.32] Curry: It's basically the power output and the number of channels.
[2810.32] Curry: All you have to do is either you can get like a little application,
[2815.32] Curry: an Android phone that says, I am in the US as far as the GPS signal goes.
