[227.25] Curry: The OLED 2s. A few bits missing though, aren't they? You have to say, I think.
[234.21] Curry: Do you think so? Well, I don't like to say all negative, so the resolution's really good.

[243.73] Jack: It's like they watched their thing and was like, oh my god, let's turn out mock dust.

[254.77] Curry: My problem is being a glasses wearer, they've put the diopters thing in,
[259.49] Curry: but it goes down to minus six. It doesn't take into account astigmatisms and anybody who's got
[264.37] Curry: a positive prescription is going to be a bit screwed because they've taken out the actual
[268.05] Curry: diopter slots to put things in. Why did they use that old DVR instead of that new one they've
[273.73] Curry: bought out, which is much, much better? Because you buy that separately.
[279.09] Curry: Yeah, but they could have stuck it in there, couldn't they?
[281.33] Frank: Well, in the cheap version of what they call it, the DVR is actually made by Immersion RC,
[291.17] AndyRC: not Fat Shark. Yeah, but they kind of do things together, don't they?
[295.65] AndyRC: They're separate companies. When they came on here, they said they just worked from the same
[299.89] AndyRC: building as what they told us. Yeah, but they look really good. I don't really see
[314.13] AndyRC: the need of HD DVR unless they were to record the bite frost system or otherwise it's
[323.57] Curry: useless. No, I don't necessarily want an HD DVR, but the feed can come in. You can capture
[331.33] Curry: what's going on at 60 frames per second and it looks significantly better when you watch it back
[335.97] Curry: because it looks a lot smoother and it gives you more of that. Because when you see things in the
[340.61] Curry: goggles, it's all looking really good and then you look back on the DVR and it's not quite as good
[344.53] Curry: and you have to try and explain to people, it's like, oh, this isn't really my experience,
[349.01] Curry: it looks much better. I just think that's a bit of a shame. I would say things like it's
[355.33] Curry: a shame the bite frost wasn't built in, but I think it's way, way too early for that yet.
[358.77] Curry: They've literally just got it in deeper, so I didn't really expect that.
[365.17] AndyRC: These goggles were probably due for release at 20 pounds before the bite frost. This is a test
[371.33] AndyRC: donation for them. Probably most of their things that they've got were due for release before the
[377.57] AndyRC: bite frost. It's just that they wanted to make sure that they were like, no, we're working on
[384.85] AndyRC: something, so that's probably why. But my thing, they look great, the goggles, and if they could
[396.53] AndyRC: have done anything, like you say, to maybe enhance the experience of like, from my perspective,
[406.05] AndyRC: there's going to be no change. The benefits are going to be through the goggle.
[413.73] AndyRC: For a YouTube reviewer or whatever, if the DVR is going to be the same, then there's no point
[420.13] AndyRC: for me to upgrade. I'm happy with the current goggles and stuff. It'd be interesting to see
[428.45] Tony: who goes for them, who buys them. Are they worth upgrading to, even if you're still running
[439.09] Tony: normal, you know, normal quads, normal gear, no HD stuff?
[445.97] Tony: It's hard to say, isn't it? I mean, what I'm still running with Don V2s?
[452.37] AndyRC: You see, when the idea of OLEDs first were put in, so the HDOs essentially, which are,
[461.17] AndyRC: I think they probably are two years old now. Would I be right in saying that? It seems like about
[468.29] Curry: two years or nearly. I remember it was the year before this year's Mini Air Show when
[476.61] AndyRC: Lee bought his a lot, didn't it? Yeah, so yeah, we must be coming up to two years. Now,
[484.45] AndyRC: back then, I think OLED screens were more important because we didn't really have many
[493.17] AndyRC: decent CMOS cameras. We were still really using CCD cameras. And CCD cameras, they didn't have
[500.45] AndyRC: the dynamic range and the vibrant colors, so the OLED screens brought that out of those
[508.93] AndyRC: CCD cameras. But when these CMOS cameras, and they've taken over now, haven't they,
[515.17] AndyRC: CMOS cameras completely? And I think when you look at a CMOS camera through LCD panels,
[525.97] AndyRC: it's not so much of a benefit as OLED. I think a prime example of this is the
[535.33] AndyRC: DJI LCD panels. The picture looks amazing, but they're not OLED. And they look better than my
[547.41] AndyRC: analog OLED HDO screens do. So that's where I would say, is OLED so important now that we've
[557.49] AndyRC: got better cameras with better dynamic range? That's where I wouldn't be so sure about it.
[565.33] Curry: Well, I thought OLEDs were a lot about having really black blacks, weren't they? Whereas
[570.85] Curry: LCDs traditionally, because the way they were backlit would either show sort of scan lines
[577.17] Curry: when they're doing stuff or make the blacks look gray. But when you're in sort of darkened goggles,
[582.93] Curry: they certainly have an advantage there of blocking out any sort of ambient light.
[587.49] AndyRC: The only reason I say this is I obviously had a lot of problems with my HDO, as you know,
[594.93] AndyRC: they turned up in the special translucent edition. Well, yeah, so I've done a lot of switch. I had to
[603.01] AndyRC: do a lot. And then I had the there was a problem with the regulator on the module. So I was getting
[610.21] AndyRC: loads of noise recorded through my DVR. So I think the HDOs have been back three times in total. So
[617.81] AndyRC: I've had to switch. I had to switch back to the HD3s and back to the HDOs every time they've come
[625.73] AndyRC: back. And the only I mean, also, you'll have heard Josh, Josh, until he received these HDO2s,
[637.97] AndyRC: he's actually been using the HD3s and not the HDOs even though he was center pair. And I understand
[646.45] AndyRC: that, like I say, I've been switching between the two. And if you use CMOS cameras, the difference
[652.77] AndyRC: isn't that noticeable because the cameras are better. So OLED really just brought out the best
[661.25] AndyRC: of a CCD camera, I think, but the CMOS cameras sort of leveled out a little bit more. And even
[669.17] AndyRC: when I got my HDOs back for a few weeks, I just stuck with the HD3s because I was like, I don't
[675.65] AndyRC: want to just move all my modules over and everything. What would you rather fly with the
[681.49] AndyRC: DJI goggles or the HDOs? Well, I don't think you could say that they're two different things.
[691.73] Tony: Are they still that far apart? Yeah, absolutely. The DJI are just like so much in front.
[699.89] AndyRC: The DJI is a different experience. So the fat shocks, the new HDOs are very much still in the
[712.13] AndyRC: analog world. So that, you know, even though you've got bite frost and stuff, I don't think
[719.33] AndyRC: it looks to me anyways that they were just trying to improve on the previous HDO with not really
[727.65] AndyRC: taking into consideration the HD bite frosting. I think that was maybe even a year or two,
[735.17] AndyRC: you know, down the line, not realizing that DJI were working on this stuff.
[741.73] Tony: So you don't think these were rushed out quickly because of bite frost and stuff like that?
[746.37] Curry: You think these are in the making for at least a year? I think bite frost was rushed out because
[751.49] Curry: of DJI. I think these goggles have been in there. I think these goggles were to come out at this
[757.41] AndyRC: point. I mean, they usually do two years. Well, actually, no, it's not true. I think actually
[763.81] AndyRC: before the HDOs, I think that between the HD3s and the HDOs was a couple of years if I remember
[770.93] AndyRC: right. The only reason that there were so many versions of the HD and it got up to the HD3 is
[779.01] AndyRC: because they were basically like a beta goggle until they got to the HD3 and then they were like,
[787.57] AndyRC: you know, the finish kind of thing. Right, let's work on something else.
[791.89] Tony: So in an analogue quad like most of us are still doing, 90% of us, is it even worth
[800.29] Tony: having HD goggles or the HDO1s and 2s? Probably not. You get pretty fair colors and that's it.
[810.77] AndyRC: I'm not going to be upgrading to them unless I, which I've never been sent a pair of fat
[819.49] AndyRC: shot goggles for review so it's very unlikely. I bought every other goggle but the only thing
[828.05] AndyRC: that would change my mind is if, you know, I could get a better DVR recording from it because that's
[836.69] AndyRC: what, from my perspective. They haven't upgraded that, have they?
[840.37] AndyRC: Pardon? I don't think they've upgraded that. No, they haven't upgraded that. It's purely
[844.61] AndyRC: just going to be a, the IPD adjustment is wider so I think that would be good in the field with you.

[864.37] AndyRC: I can't remember what I'm saying. Oh yeah, the field of view is bigger, 45 against 37. That's
[872.37] AndyRC: pretty noticeable but yeah, I would, I don't think you could say, or should I get the HDOs or the
[880.45] AndyRC: DGI? I'd say if you want digital FPV then DGI, if you want analogs then, you know,
[888.21] AndyRC: either get the new HDOs if you fancy the idea but the previous HDOs aren't, you know,
[897.57] AndyRC: they're going to be fine just for me, you know, they work with rapid fire.
[901.25] Curry: Perhaps the problem is that maybe a lot of people that wanted to go the upgrade for OLED screens
[908.13] Curry: have already done so. That's why I think it's a little bit of a tough sell. So maybe it's people
[912.53] Curry: that are thinking, actually, I want to be HD ready for when the revolution comes or people
[916.93] Curry: getting into it might get the latest stuff. It's quite a hard, it's kind of a hard sell for me to
[923.09] Curry: do the upgrade because goggles aren't cheap and it's really, it's a sort of little improvement
[929.09] Curry: depending where you're coming from. As you mentioned, Andy, the difference between the
[932.93] Curry: goggles now has sort of changed a bit because where we've gone from CCD to CMOS, things are
[939.49] Curry: looking a bit more samey. So yeah, it's hard to see, you know, is there a massive market with
[945.09] Curry: this one? Are these going to sell big numbers or maybe all those people that really, really wanted
[950.45] Tony: the power button, they'll be the ones again. Even if I had the new ones, you know I'd rip them out of
[958.93] AndyRC: my head. I like that they've given the option though. There's a jumper so the power button
[967.01] AndyRC: can work as a power button or not. I think that was a clever thing because
[972.61] AndyRC: the default as being not working. Yeah, because the thing is that there are a lot of people out
[981.89] AndyRC: there who don't want a power button but you don't hear off them because, you know, that they've got
[988.85] AndyRC: what they want with the current goggles. It's the people who want a power button that you'll hear
[994.29] AndyRC: shouting about it because they don't have it. So for as many people that want a power button,
[1002.53] AndyRC: there's maybe even more because I don't want a power button. I think it's pointless, you know.
[1008.77] AndyRC: I do as well. I'm just like, I'm so used to this. Yeah, I'm just used to doing that.
[1015.01] Curry: As Pesky as PV says, internal power for the fan's good. You don't have to mess around with a fake
[1020.45] Curry: balance port anymore. That's a good thing. Once you're not restricted about 2S battery,
[1025.33] AndyRC: you can plug 3S in if you want to. Also, you know, while we talk about the astigmatism thing,
[1031.17] AndyRC: I've got astigmatism but I can use the standard diopters and get a clear image just fine. So
[1039.89] AndyRC: I imagine it's going to be a case of, oh, if you've got astigmatism, find a mate who's,
[1047.09] AndyRC: because no doubt, I mean, you know, we're sitting here saying, oh, people are going to buy, of course
[1051.49] AndyRC: they're going to buy them. You go to a race. If you haven't got the HDOs or whatever, you know,
[1059.49] AndyRC: you don't see anybody with a set of box goggles usually at a race, do you?
[1066.85] Curry: It just depends on the level of the astigmatism. I got custom diopters made but I was able to use
[1072.85] Curry: the regular minus six ones. And I think that's more about you're sat in your goggles for a few
[1077.97] Curry: minutes. If you wore them all day, you'd have probably an impact and get headaches from that.
[1082.69] Curry: But if you're, you know, your three minutes and the goggles are off and normal glasses are on,
[1087.33] Curry: which I think is okay. I think the level of how bad your astigmatism is is going to be, how tricky
[1094.05] Curry: it's going to be without that. But it was mainly for the guys that are sort of the long-sighted
[1099.65] Curry: ones that have sort of different prescriptions, which, and they were a big market for the custom
[1106.37] Curry: diopter people. Because previously, there was only like minus two, minus four, minus six from Fat
[1111.81] Curry: Shock and those horrible little plastic lenses. So that the guys like RHO Lens were doing all sorts
[1116.93] Curry: of weird and wonderful, bizarre prescriptions for people that were actually getting.
[1122.05] AndyRC: It surprises me that people who have like a reading glasses prescription need that with Fat
[1130.85] AndyRC: Shocks, given that the optics require you to look into the distance and not close up.
[1137.97] Curry: Yeah, the reason is, is because they need a distance vision. And what happens as you become
[1142.61] Curry: older is you'd have like a really big positive prescription for reading. But what would happen
[1149.09] Curry: is you wouldn't just have nothing for distance, you'd have less of a positive prescription
[1153.73] Curry: to keep it in focus. So it's still positive, but not as much. It's kind of like my reading
[1158.29] Curry: prescription is sort of less negative than my distance vision stuff. It changes with age as
[1166.45] AndyRC: well. It does. I've started noticing mine going, you know, myself, me and yourself have been talking
[1173.49] AndyRC: about the novice, the ishi novice thing. And usually when, usually when I look through box
[1182.21] AndyRC: goggles that the screen is that close, I can usually, it's a strain on the eyes, but I can read
[1190.05] AndyRC: this fit whatever's there, or it's not blurred, it's just a strain. But with those goggles,
[1197.89] AndyRC: everything is a little bit blurred. So that's probably my eyesight getting worse.
[1204.37] AndyRC: Does anyone know what they're selling them at?
[1208.05] AndyRC: What's the UK price for them?
[1212.05] AndyRC: With one set of, what the entire kit you mean?
[1220.13] AndyRC: They're always $500 across the board.
[1222.29] Curry: $499, aren't they?

[1225.25] AndyRC: So that's 500-squid UK, yeah?

[1232.69] AndyRC: They're not coming out till is it the end of November, if it was. So you set some time,

[1247.41] AndyRC: We usually have to pay more, don't we? It's usually about 500 quid.
[1251.17] Curry: Normally, it's just translate dollars to pounds, isn't it?

[1259.41] AndyRC: That's usually how it's worked when I bought the HDO.
[1263.25] Tony: Well, I've heard that quid is a lot of money to spend on FPV, isn't it?
[1267.57] AndyRC: When they don't come with a module, it is, yes.
[1272.29] AndyRC: But people pay for it. And also, you know...
[1275.65] Tony: I mean, I haven't upgraded mine for...
[1278.21] Tony: Well, mine are Dom V2s, and I've had them since day one.
[1282.13] Tony: So they're five years old.
[1284.29] Tony: But I mean, is it worth upgrading?
[1290.69] AndyRC: No, it all depends if you want the latest and greatest, I suppose.
[1294.29] Tony: I've always won for the latest and greatest.
[1297.41] Tony: But it's like you're trying to make something...
[1302.29] Tony: It's like buying a HDTV 4K TV, but they're still broadcasting an analogue.
[1309.49] Tony: And you're like, yeah, I've got this 4K TV and I'm watching analogue TV on it.
[1315.41] Tony: It's just like pointless.

[1340.77] Curry: which was the Mavic Mini, which came in as unexpected at exactly 249 grams.

[1356.21] Jack: Yeah, if you look at the batteries, yeah.
[1358.13] AndyRC: Yeah, they're not even light, are they?
[1360.45] AndyRC: It flies for 30 minutes as well, apparently.
[1364.05] Frank: I am kind of a bit bummed that I bought the Mavic Air like only some number of months ago.
[1369.73] AndyRC: Yeah, but the Mavic Air does 4K, the Mini doesn't.
[1374.93] Frank: I'm never going to use 4K because I can't bloody edit it with it.
[1380.45] Curry: That's it.
[1383.49] Curry: It's this little incremental thing.
[1387.73] Curry: I've got the Mavic Air as well because it's nice and small.
[1390.37] Curry: You can take it anywhere.
[1391.41] Curry: And then you're like, oh, no, the Mini is even smaller and you can take it even more places.
[1394.69] Curry: But then you get any thinking, but they pretty much both do the same thing, don't they?
[1399.01] Curry: You're not going to be like, oh, man, I feel like such a clumsy X-Class quad
[1403.65] Curry: with this massive Mini in the Mavic Air, which is this big instead of this big.
[1408.61] Frank: Isn't there also, I mean, I've vaguely looked at some article and not really taken much in,
[1415.25] Frank: but I vaguely remember seeing something about them having a different radio connection.
[1421.73] Frank: So they've got the sort of the more robust longer range radio connection with the Mini
[1427.25] Frank: than they do with the Air.
[1429.01] Curry: I haven't looked at that, but they were saying four kilometers,
[1432.21] Curry: weren't they? Which is more than they were saying the Air would do.
[1435.97] Curry: SFCC.
[1438.13] Frank: Maybe that's just what I was looking at.
[1440.69] Frank: I've got an Air design too, but I mean...
[1443.09] Frank: No, so it's the same thing, I think.
[1445.33] Curry: That's what you do, you know, get your Android phone, get your satellite little...

[1452.77] Tony: But two kilometers seeing something the size of a phone,

[1460.13] AndyRC: What we should be talking about, though, is that the weight
[1464.45] AndyRC: isn't really going to make much of a difference here, right, Andy?
[1468.21] Tony: Yeah, because they're going to call it...
[1470.37] Frank: Yeah, I mean, you wouldn't have to register until July 2020,
[1481.81] Frank: but because it has a camera on it and it isn't registered under the toy standards,
[1487.49] Frank: then it'll have to be registered in July 2020 anyway.
[1490.45] Frank: So maybe we can have fun for a whole year.
[1493.33] Curry: Well, not even a year, but...
[1495.01] Curry: Oh, if you need to go have fun.
[1497.17] Frank: There'll be some benefits in terms of if you're allowed
[1499.57] Frank: to fly closer to people and things, but...

[1504.53] Tony: It's quite cool what they've done, though.
[1506.37] Tony: It's like literally the size of my phone and probably the weight of my phone.
[1510.29] AndyRC: It's the size of an iPhone, the latest iPhone, isn't it?

[1514.61] Tony: They're telling you.
[1515.89] Tony: And has a three-axis gimbal and can shoot in 2.7K at 30 frames.
[1521.33] Tony: Well, good.
[1522.13] AndyRC: Yeah, and apparently it's $400, which is cheap for a DJI.
[1527.57] AndyRC: They have launched it very cheap.
[1528.93] Curry: And that, because normally you'd think,
[1530.61] Curry: okay, well, I asked for $100 for the controller,
[1532.77] Curry: but they've given you the lot there, it would seem,
[1534.69] Curry: which is very unlike DJI.
[1536.77] Curry: I don't know if it's the case that DJI are quite scared
[1539.49] Curry: that maybe people aren't going to buy drones now
[1541.65] Curry: because they're a bit worried that people are bringing in
[1546.13] Curry: all these regulations and they're going to be nice and attractive.
[1549.17] AndyRC: You've also got the other problem of the second-hand market.
[1554.53] AndyRC: If you've ever tried to sell a DJI, second-hand.
[1558.69] Curry: I feel a personal story of bitterness coming on here, Ed.
[1562.05] Jack: Oh, that is a point.
[1563.09] Jack: I phoned you.
[1564.85] Jack: Like, you know, you were trying to sell something
[1567.97] Jack: and someone said that they were happy.
[1570.45] Jack: What did you get for that?

[1577.49] AndyRC: I will just say that second-hand DJI,
[1582.45] AndyRC: they're competing with their own second-hand prices
[1586.45] AndyRC: of old stuff, I would say,
[1588.69] AndyRC: which is probably why they've had to bring the price down.
[1592.13] AndyRC: What surprised me about this one is the lack of sort of,
[1598.85] AndyRC: there was no livestream.
[1600.69] AndyRC: There was no, where's the Casey Neistat?
[1604.21] AndyRC: He's the one that gets his review out when they do the livestream.
[1609.73] AndyRC: It just all seemed very low-key and not the same amount of buzz as usual.
