[917.5] AndyRC: don't speak to the engineers don't do you speak to the marketing person

[936.37] AndyRC: maybe someone's taken it apart and had a look at it and stuff like that

[974.61] AndyRC: forget f4 sky because it's really f4 sky that

[991.97] AndyRC: page uh open tx and we'll start you know it it'd be like a
[999.65] Curry: demise I think so well I I had my first go at access this week
[1004.85] Curry: and I wasn't particularly impressed because I was trying to work the new r9
[1009.09] Curry: system with the super duper r9 mm over the
[1013.49] Curry: air which updates over the air and as you
[1017.01] Curry: as you say you have to hold down a button
[1019.73] Curry: not to bind it but to register it which is kind of the same thing
[1023.97] Curry: after that point it binds and then I found out after wiring it in
[1027.89] Curry: that over the air updates do not work with this combination of this radio
[1033.01] Curry: and this receiver uh and I was trying to get from f4 sky
[1037.57] Curry: is this problem with the module or the open tx firmware
[1040.53] Curry: but they they succeeded in saying thank you for pointing this out we have
[1044.37] Curry: noticed this too we're going to fix it and and I when I asked them where the
[1048.29] Curry: problem was that's when they sort of went offline again so it's like
[1051.57] AndyRC: yeah yeah I think that's what jumper have got
[1054.93] AndyRC: you know I was talking to jack because jack recently
[1058.05] AndyRC: bought the new tyrannis and uh I think that's probably what jumper
[1064.29] AndyRC: have got on their side is just how slow
[1069.25] AndyRC: f4 sky is I mean look how long has the r9
[1073.25] AndyRC: been out now it's it's a year and a half and it's
[1076.69] AndyRC: it's not ready and access has been out a good six months and like you say it's
[1084.05] AndyRC: over all this that they promise you have to
[1086.69] Curry: upgrade the hardware I'll tell you I'll tell you what annoys me about this
[1089.57] Curry: because I my last job was in um well my second
[1093.17] Curry: last job was in testing and there's like functional testing and
[1096.77] Curry: system testing system testing being like the real
[1099.25] Curry: weird cases the stress tests that sort of thing functional testing is like
[1103.41] Curry: does this work pretty basic stuff does it do what we said it would do
[1107.57] Curry: and then we'll get it onto the guys that can put it through the the bigger
[1110.77] Curry: testers where you sort of get beta testing in this industry
[1113.81] Curry: but what has happened is they've skipped the whole functional test does it work
[1117.25] Curry: well I wrote the code I expect so so all you have to do someone in freesky
[1121.65] Curry: said I've written this code does over the air flashing work
[1124.45] Curry: no it doesn't and even they said well let's go rewrite it they said ah
[1127.81] Curry: whatever I just released the code and we'll let people find out we won't
[1132.45] Curry: mention it's broken we'll just let them solder it in say
[1136.37] Curry: you don't have to desolder things anymore to update receivers
[1139.25] Curry: and then watch it break and then watch some idiot spend
[1142.85] Curry: another hour desoldering stuff so he can wire it back up plug it into his
[1146.77] Curry: radio up the receiver I'm sold again sold it back in
[1151.65] Curry: who would that be yeah I don't know who who would that be then
[1155.49] Curry: be me this idiot fixing problems which shouldn't exist all
[1160.85] Curry: week and and perhaps accidentally setting fire
[1164.69] Curry: on things but that's that's can you show it how
[1168.13] Curry: accidentally well you know you you wire up a battery the
[1172.05] Curry: wrong way around these things happen

[1183.73] Curry: fed up but anyway didn't kill it somehow um

[1233.17] Curry: I plugged in smoke came out it desolders itself here and here and
[1237.57] Curry: basically blew one of the xt60 things slightly apart
[1240.77] Curry: it's all right once you squeeze it together with a pair of pliers
[1243.57] Jack: and that sounds like a very frank thing to do
[1250.29] Curry: don't know what you're implying when I when I rewired it and I thought uh
[1253.73] Curry: something's I assumed at the very least the ESC
[1257.81] Curry: board would have blown and I had a look and all the FETs
[1260.29] Curry: seemed intact I was like that's weird so I was like well I hope it hasn't
[1264.13] Curry: gone through and killed the flight control and stuff
[1266.21] Curry: and when I plugged it back in the white right way around everything
[1269.97] Curry: actually worked which was surprising and I double checked it and rechecked it
[1274.21] AndyRC: and yeah it's still working it's not it's not surprising to me
[1277.65] AndyRC: because what you will have done is blown uh the the capacitors on the ESC board
[1284.05] AndyRC: so um my video noise and noise through to the flight controller
[1288.21] AndyRC: I've done that before where yeah plugged in the wrong way and it's like everything
[1292.13] AndyRC: works fine but if you actually take that if you
[1295.09] AndyRC: take a look at the ESCs you'll find a couple of the ceramic capacitors
[1300.69] AndyRC: are black yeah or or cracked yeah and so I didn't see it when I inspected it but
[1306.29] Curry: I'll you know I'll have a look what happens in terms of the noise
[1309.89] AndyRC: sometimes you can't see it but it's those that uh
[1313.33] AndyRC: that will short and uh if you quicken off and get
[1316.93] AndyRC: so you'll get you'll get the magic smoke it'll smell horrible
[1320.37] AndyRC: you're like it still works but uh I would just say be careful
[1324.61] Curry: because uh yeah I'm not trusting it 100%
[1327.73] AndyRC: uh time when that kind of thing happens when we actually fly it
[1332.53] AndyRC: you'll get the thing is if you're like doing a review
[1335.97] AndyRC: and you get loads of video I'm if you probably get loads of video noise
[1339.65] AndyRC: anyway with it being is it the Tyro thing um
[1343.33] AndyRC: but yeah obviously the more ceramic capacitors you lose on your ESCs the
[1348.61] AndyRC: less filtering the ESCs are gonna have therefore
[1352.93] AndyRC: you'll get more video noise more voltage spikes and
[1357.17] Curry: stuff like that but we'll have a look and see what happens and if anything goes
[1361.09] Curry: wrong I will say well I did blow it up a bit
[1364.13] AndyRC: so yeah cool yeah I said no to that one there's just
[1370.77] AndyRC: too many too many products and it's too like
[1375.25] AndyRC: there's no flying days at all you know it's it's
[1378.37] AndyRC: it's raining every single day when it's not raining it's snowing
[1381.65] Curry: or it's windy or I went to a new place on Tuesday and it's kind of a new place
[1387.17] Curry: by the old place but it took me an hour to walk there
[1390.13] Curry: and I had to go through forests and then hop over a barbed wire fence
[1395.17] Curry: uh to fly for half an hour and then it rained on the way back and it has done
[1399.65] Curry: since so it's not exactly easy going I've been meaning to watch
[1404.69] AndyRC: your LA L5 video I've got it um how how was it did you was it any
[1411.73] AndyRC: good did it but did it break all you did it
[1415.41] Curry: like destroy your lipos it would have destroyed my lipos
[1419.41] Curry: if I flew it at anything over about 40% throttle
[1424.05] Curry: because as soon as you you zap the throttle it's like
[1428.37] Curry: it just actually just immediately went into low voltage
[1432.45] AndyRC: yeah that doesn't surprise me I mean there are motors for
[1436.05] AndyRC: seven and eight in yeah it's all it's almost like
[1440.93] AndyRC: we've got all of these components that we can't get rid of let's
[1444.53] AndyRC: build the worst thing that we can think of and
[1447.97] AndyRC: put it in or I mean it doesn't even make sense it's got the tarsier camera in
[1452.13] AndyRC: there but it's not really a freestyle model so
[1455.89] AndyRC: what you're going to use the hd footage for I don't know
[1458.77] Curry: my my suggestion this one is trying to work out who this was for I say this is
[1463.17] Curry: for the casual flyer it's not certainly
[1465.97] Curry: not a racer it's not someone who wants the best freestyle because he'd be using
[1469.73] Curry: gopro it's for these of us that perhaps go out
[1472.93] Curry: and fly fly around do some stuff occasionally
[1475.81] Curry: think oh I wish I recorded that one that might look nice in hd
[1478.85] AndyRC: hey it's already there yeah but the thing is it's 180 quid
[1483.49] AndyRC: and that that um what's it called the the Nazgul 5 from iFlight
[1489.01] AndyRC: that's my current favorite and that's yet to be beat
[1492.77] AndyRC: so I'd be very subbed and that's a that's 150 quid
[1496.69] AndyRC: is it 180 for the Ali Al5 yeah and definitely you need to receive
[1502.61] Curry: with it but I suppose the thing is with the Nazgul
[1505.65] Curry: like the beautiful as it is and certainly my favorite quad at the moment
[1508.85] Curry: if you want to get hd footage on it you need to stick
[1512.37] Curry: effectively a gopro in it I suppose you could just you know put something cheap
[1515.41] AndyRC: on like a run cam 5 couldn't you uh yeah yeah that that's true yeah
[1521.01] AndyRC: it does give you that but a lot of people that don't like
[1524.53] AndyRC: the image from the taze and you're going to get props in shot
[1528.13] AndyRC: where it's positioned so uh you know i suppose
[1533.17] Curry: i did do my last flight i had the camera angled up enough where i thought i
[1537.25] Curry: wouldn't get props in shot but the taze decided not to record
[1540.77] Curry: because it was having a day off
[1543.97] Curry: i just got dvr footage on that one i also had all part of my
[1548.69] Curry: annoyances leading up to that one and you already know about like the hassles we
[1553.01] Curry: had trying to get it running in the first
[1555.41] AndyRC: place i've not even tried big credits yeah with my also had after i hooked up
