[677.39] Frank: This is an esports streaming studio owned by... I can't remember what they've killed in this
[686.43] Frank: particular department, but it is a campus of Staffordshire University, even though it's in
[691.55] AndyRC: London. How do you end up in these places, Andy? Speaking to people?
[699.39] AndyRC: I think he relentlessly emails them.
[701.31] AndyRC: Getting people's dental records and threats and things.
[704.83] Jack: I think you've learned from me to trick people into thinking they're having a sensible

[715.87] Frank: It is. This is actually a connection through FTV anyway, but this is a guy who works there.
[728.19] Frank: He's a lecturer there in games design.
[734.27] Frank: A lecturer in games design? That's a cool job.
[738.27] Frank: Yeah, and so he was kind of showing me around, and we used to go and meet up in
[744.35] Frank: Hamill and fly FPV a bunch. We met at... I'm pretty sure we met at some of the funds,
[752.03] Frank: along with many of us in the FPV community who met there.
[757.79] Frank: We sort of wandered around, and then he showed you kind of at the end of it,
[762.59] Frank: just like, oh yeah, and there's this as well. I look to know it. Whoa, that looks cool.
[768.35] Frank: Have you thought of flying in it, because that looks amazing?
[775.47] AndyRC: Could we use it for anything like that?
[777.23] Frank: Well, that was my initial thought, so that was what I was initially talking about as well.

[784.51] Frank: and you've got some very nice cameras and streaming gear, and can we do something?
[790.11] Frank: And then they started talking about how much it costs to use it, and I don't think this is an
[797.07] AndyRC: audio product. It's a lot of money in that esports, isn't it? It's basically pretending to do

[808.43] Curry: I watched a documentary about it on this game that I'd never heard of, some team event game,
[814.51] Curry: and they do this World Series of it, and it's like 10 million dollars for the winner.
[821.55] NJ: I think all the big ones are actually out in South Korea, and you get people that literally
[825.47] NJ: just live in internet cafes.
[827.63] Curry: Yeah, I mean this was a US one, but they said every year it's either like an east or west
[833.39] Curry: in the final, and they sort of trade who wins on it. It's not a game, it's not Star Quest.

[849.95] AndyRC: If you go on the Drive Tribe YouTube channel, you know that's the YouTube channel for the
[855.23] AndyRC: Grand Tour. They've done one on Gran Turismo on esports, and so that was like car racing,
[864.51] AndyRC: and it was in a similar sort of thing to that. Looks pretty cool, but it's very competitive.
[870.11] AndyRC: Actually as well, I don't know if any of you saw the big fat quiz of the year, but that was one.

[972.75] Frank: who does the loaded Tiny Whoop events, generally-ish, it seems about once a week, I think, in London.
[983.95] Frank: Just been in all sorts of weird and wonderful places, and has a really nice
[989.55] Frank: LED setup for the Tiny Whoops and really good events.
[993.07] Frank: And so I said, you know, might be able to do something.
[997.31] Frank: And sure enough, they decided it'd be a good idea to try something out.
[1004.35] Frank: So last Saturday went along, there was about eight of us, I think, just doing some RF testing,
[1011.95] Frank: testing out the magic box with their very, very fancy streaming gear,
[1016.19] Frank: just getting everything connected.
[1018.59] Frank: So the streaming to the magic box is four normal FPV receivers, like plug-in modules,
[1027.31] Frank: I can't even remember which ones they are now, they're like...
[1032.83] Frank: Anyway, they're just normal FPV receivers that you stick in your goggles,
[1037.07] Frank: and then Jack made four goggles, simulators.
[1043.79] Frank: So it gives all the same pins and the voltages and all that kind of thing.
[1047.95] Frank: And then takes the video feed and sticks it into one of each of four channels on an
[1053.39] Frank: IP security camera encoder.
[1057.15] Frank: So it takes a video feed and it encodes them as four separate network feeds,
[1062.75] Frank: and sticks them on the internet.
[1065.55] Frank: Well, not on the internet, but on network.
[1067.47] Frank: And then you can pick that up with VLC or whatever else.
[1071.79] Frank: And so you can have four separate streams.
[1076.43] Frank: So that's what the magic box does.
[1078.11] AndyRC: That's really clever for somebody who's trying to turn himself into Arnold Rimmer

[1121.31] Frank: So you can have a power over ethernet 48 volt input.
[1125.55] Frank: So you can use a really long ethernet cable and power it,
[1128.67] Frank: have all the power in the computer at one end,
[1130.75] Frank: and have this cable out and have the box at the other end.
[1133.71] Frank: So you can have your computer indoors being powered by the mains,
[1138.27] Frank: and you can have everything powered by the mains.
[1140.51] Frank: And you're just running an ethernet cable out to this weather sealed box
[1143.79] Frank: that you can place wherever you'd like so that you get a nice...

[1439.79] AndyRC: the lighting frequency must be really low because it was flickering like this,
[1446.03] AndyRC: but as soon as you got into the main area where all the tools were, gone.

[1474.51] AndyRC: Well, unless you're using an NTSC camera, but I was using both PAL and NTSC cameras,
[1481.55] AndyRC: and regardless, when we were where all of us tools were, it was flickering.

[2206.54] NJ: so Diamond VTX, Crazy B, and the Crazy B F4 V3,
[2211.98] NJ: and the Cadix baby turtles is looking about 65 grams.
[2219.42] NJ: So once we chuck a 40 gram high C3S on there, we're in the ballpark.
[2224.94] NJ: So I think that's where we're going to end up.
[2227.26] NJ: So it'll definitely be lighter than the twig.
[2231.74] AndyRC: What high C3S lipos are you using?
[2234.06] AndyRC: The GMD ones?
[2237.26] NJ: Just because I had them, the Tattoo 75 C3S.

[2245.1] AndyRC: Yeah, I think they are the best for the toothpick style models.
[2250.62] AndyRC: And yeah, we all thought DJI was going to take over,
[2253.98] AndyRC: but with all these regulations, and then this talk in America
[2260.86] AndyRC: about having an electronic tag on your foot if you want to tell that one.
[2264.86] Jack: Yeah, it's even worse than the color that I came up with.
[2268.3] NJ: Just quickly before we move on to your MC creations,
[2272.54] NJ: as I said, there are 30 no 3s coming from T motor 2.
[2275.42] NJ: That's going to be sweet.
[2276.78] NJ: Yeah, I think there's definitely forming a sweet spot with the toothpick class,
[2282.06] NJ: and you'll see the numbers move around.
[2284.22] NJ: But 1204, 30 no 3, 1105, they're kind of all doing the same thing,
[2290.14] NJ: but they're achieving torque in a different way.
[2292.38] NJ: You either make the motor smaller, but wider will generate torque through being further out,
[2299.1] NJ: or you can make it further in, but make the states taller,
[2301.82] NJ: and you'll get more torque from essentially having more area there for the rotation.
[2310.54] NJ: So you kind of balance the two, but there is a flight feel difference between those two,
[2315.5] NJ: whether you go for smaller size and taller stator, or shorter stator and large diameter.
[2322.38] NJ: They are getting around the same torque figures,
[2324.3] NJ: but they will have a different feeling flight.
[2328.3] NJ: And 1204 is kind of right in the middle,
[2331.26] NJ: and seems to be the one that gives the most linear throttle response.
[2336.14] NJ: So that's the one that I really like.
[2339.74] NJ: 1105s, I found like there was a lot.
[2343.9] NJ: There's a lot of the top end that I didn't need,
[2345.66] NJ: like the smaller you make the stator and taller, taller the stator, but smaller the diameter,
[2351.98] NJ: I tend to find that you end up with loads of this sort of strange overpowering at the top
[2357.82] NJ: that just makes the actual curve of power a bit strange for me.
[2361.82] NJ: But yeah, 1204 is just this really nice linear, for freestyle it's great.
[2367.1] NJ: Maybe for racing, 1303 will be the way to go, or perhaps 1105.
[2372.22] AndyRC: I found as well, just from flying all of these different toothpicks that came out,
[2377.98] AndyRC: the taller the stator was, the higher the voltage sag.
[2382.78] AndyRC: I received this HCLRC, I think it was, or was it an iFlight one?
[2388.78] AndyRC: It had 1106 motors on it, and even using the 450 milliamp 3S,
[2395.18] AndyRC: the voltage just sagged straight away.
[2398.3] AndyRC: It's amazing how like just an extra couple of millimeters can affect the voltage.
[2403.66] NJ: There's so much variation as well between manufacturer and their windings and winding
[2408.06] NJ: techniques. But in terms of the like 1303 versus 1204 versus 1105,
[2418.7] NJ: the best way I think to describe it is like taking the lid off a jam jar.
[2424.46] NJ: If you made the lid bigger, you'd have more torque because you're further out from the
[2430.06] NJ: fulcrum, so you could keep it very thin, a thin lid, but you've got more torque out here to turn
[2435.98] NJ: the jam jar. But equally, if the jam jar was tough, but there was a lot more of that jam jar
[2442.06] NJ: instead of being just a thin lid, if it was that much bigger and you could get your whole
[2445.1] NJ: hand around it, you could then achieve more torque that way.
[2448.78] NJ: It's about how you achieve the torque and how that all comes in,
[2452.22] NJ: ties in to affect the kind of flight feel.
[2456.78] Curry: I like it when you guys talk about motors because it makes me feel like such a caveman.
[2461.74] Curry: It's literally, I put motors on and go, quads flies.
[2468.62] Curry: Who knows? It's just like, I went to NJ and then-

[4357.74] AndyRC: So this transmit that you've got, you can tune it from the transmitter.
[4361.34] NJ: Yeah, it's got two-way communications, basically 2.4 telemetry, but they give
[4365.82] NJ: their own flashy names to it because it's proprietary and they want to make it sound
[4368.94] NJ: very clever.
[4369.9] NJ: But one of the cool things that they have, because Mikado Vibar, the company that's been
[4373.9] NJ: doing it for such a long time, is they actually transmit live vibration analysis.
[4378.7] NJ: So you actually get a graph moving in real time on the screen.
[4383.1] NJ: Oh, nice.
[4383.98] NJ: So you can see if there's certain frequencies of resonation, a very indicative of, say,
[4391.5] NJ: imbalanced tail or main blades and stuff like that.
[4394.06] NJ: There's lots of cool stuff that it does.
[4397.18] NJ: And yeah, obviously the nerd in me got overwhelmed and drawn to it.
[4401.9] NJ: And yeah, it's all I've done instead of flying it.
[4404.3] NJ: It's just spend more money like an idiot.
