The best, well the only UK FPV podcast [6.8] Jack: sponsored by the lovely people from our Patreon. Patreon.com forward slash Let's Drone Out. [12.88] Jack: In particular we'd like to thank these guys. Art Faulkner. Mikey Dredd. Wacky Wes. David Powell. [24.24] Jack: Thank you guys. You're the best. We can edit our podcast. Thank you. [58.9] Frank: Good evening and welcome to Let's Drone Out. [62.5] Frank: This week Jack won't be doing the introduction as he is currently presenting to those of you [69.06] Frank: watching live the results of trying to do something that we haven't quite understood [76.18] Frank: with his USB audio interface which has resulted in it being a large number of pieces strewn [82.74] Curry: across his floor. I was present at the time. I can tell you exactly what happened. [89.54] Curry: I'd love to hear it. Which is we were supposed to be doing some streaming last night as phenomenal [95.78] Curry: and Jack had this wishy wishy sort of noise going on which resulted in him picking up his USB thing, [103.38] Curry: saying some choice words and throwing it with force back where it went. [108.42] Curry: So then he realised he was no longer able to contact me or speak to me. So we had to abort. [117.22] NJ: Then he realised that his real life save point wasn't working. [121.38] NJ: Anyone seen the latest? Controls it! Controls it! [124.82] AndyRC: Yeah, yeah, that was good about us. [129.7] NJ: Oh well. Oh dear. Sign language Jack. This can be fun. [133.14] Frank: So we won't have Jack. He can't introduce himself. But this week we have NJ Tech. [141.22] Frank: Hey everyone, been a while. We have Curry Kitten. [144.82] Frank: Hello. We have Andy LC. [148.1] Frank: Good evening. I'm Frank and we might have Tony at some point. [154.18] TTS: Hello, this is my new voice. [155.7] Frank: This is going to be even worse. [160.74] Frank: The kick Jack. [163.38] AndyRC: Because he's dyslexic, so he's using like a voice to tie it with. [167.86] AndyRC: But it's just not going to make more sense than his actual what he says. [175.86] Curry: I did suggest to Jack, if he was going to do this, have some key phrases ready to cut and place. [180.66] Curry: I can't be looking at you doing this. [183.86] AndyRC: You need to up the pitch a bit, Jack. It's a little bit low down in the register. [190.98] AndyRC: Yeah, it's a little bit. [191.86] TTS: Welcome to LDO. [200.13] AndyRC: Okay. [201.57] AndyRC: Can you make him British now? [209.89] Frank: Oh dear. Right. [214.61] Frank: And in anticipation of there maybe still not being a huge amount of flying to be done at the moment, [225.41] Frank: I was very interested to know everyone's different kind of methods or the order [233.33] Frank: of operations of how they go around putting it together a video. [236.85] Frank: I was going to throw Jack under the bus and say it's because. [241.49] TTS: I'm the worst host. [246.82] TTS: I'm the worst host. [249.3] AndyRC: He's the worst host. [250.58] AndyRC: Oh, wow. [252.9] AndyRC: To be fair, that would be really annoying, isn't it? [255.06] AndyRC: You've got more, you've got more technology than Stephen Hawking had. [259.46] AndyRC: So, you know, you should be able to, you know, string a few sentences together at least. [265.14] AndyRC: Bit of content. [265.62] TTS: Why am I under the bus? [270.16] TTS: Why am I? [271.36] Frank: What? Under the what? [273.12] Frank: Bus. [273.84] Frank: I was going to throw Jack under the bus and say he's been sitting on a load of video stuff [281.6] Frank: on and avoiding making videos because he can't seem to get stuff edited and doesn't want to and [288.72] Frank: gets a bit of a tizzy. [290.48] Frank: So, I was going to ask everyone else what their kind of order of operations were. [296.16] Frank: Whether it was also seeing Jack with Lee doing their video together, [302.24] Frank: the kind of post and a six online catch up of their two talks and whether they [311.36] Frank: and sort of seeing how they kind of recorded live and then edited it, [316.88] Frank: which is kind of how we do audio, but for all your different videos, [322.32] Frank: how you put things together in terms of, do you put a script together first? [327.84] Frank: Or do you start filming and work out a script afterwards? [332.8] Frank: Do you do a video and then fill stuff in in an edit and film stuff to go with a voiceover? [339.44] Frank: Or how, what order do you do things in is what I'm interested in. [344.8] Frank: Um, Jack's way through. [347.44] AndyRC: Jack was pointing, so we'll give him 30 seconds to type what it was that he wanted to say. [354.0] TTS: Yeah, I hate a no premiere that is not fair and I like to edit and hang out with NRC. [366.08] AndyRC: Is it just me or is Jack's robot voice a little bit depressed and a little bit calm? [373.04] Curry: It's more Marvin, the paranoid Android than Stephen Hawking, isn't it? [378.08] Curry: Same level of I want to die from it. [384.8] NJ: Say Frank. [386.96] NJ: If we need robotic in camp, we should see if we can find the voice translator. [393.04] NJ: That would do it. [396.0] Frank: Jack, can you say, uh, brain the size of a planet? [402.78] TTS: C3O was five. [407.42] NJ: C3O. [411.74] NJ: You might need to put a full stop after things like that or gap them. [415.74] NJ: Perhaps it's a learning thing. [417.02] TTS: We're all learning about how to use brain the size of a planet. [422.38] NJ: Nice enough. [426.78] NJ: Okay, uh, he's gonna, he's gonna kick off then. [429.02] NJ: Curry, what's your, uh, [430.46] TTS: MJ is XE. [432.46] TTS: Oh lord. [433.98] TTS: MJ is XE. [438.4] Curry: So general product review is, um, I generally film it, me unboxing it. [446.16] Curry: I use, uh, my little Canon, what is it? [450.96] Curry: EOS, um, I forgot what it is now. [453.44] Curry: I've told you, oh, M3, isn't it? [455.6] Curry: Because it's got a mic input and I can flip the top up. [459.68] Curry: Um, so I can plug a mic in. [461.04] Curry: I shove that over the top of my, um, monitor and I can basically do a little [466.72] Curry: spiel about here I am. [468.4] Curry: I'm unboxing. [469.04] Curry: I'm showing you what's in the box. [470.48] Curry: I don't, I don't script things, but I have a sort of, I suppose I have a formula if you like. [476.32] Curry: So I will go through and I will unpack it and I will sort of look at it sort of live [480.4] Curry: as it was my first unboxing. [483.04] Curry: Um, and if it's like a quad, we'll then go through some beta flight just to see how [487.76] Curry: it was set up. [488.56] Curry: At that point, my most important thing to do is to take a photo of it. [492.72] Curry: Because if I go and fly it, then I'm likely to crash it and explode it. [497.04] Curry: And then the photo is going to be bits of quad. [500.08] Curry: So I go in, like I take a couple of shots just for a thumbnail, [504.32] Curry: just so I've got room to stuff stuffing. [506.88] Curry: And then it's mostly about, um, I want to get like a bunch of flies flights in if I can. [513.52] Curry: Um, at that point, I might take my GoPro. [516.56] Curry: I'll take, uh, my GoPro Hero 4 and this little thing just so I can hold it. [520.4] Curry: And from Andy RC, his super tip for using GoPros was this little sort of foam condom. [526.4] Curry: You stick over the top and it really just cut down. [529.2] Curry: They're called, I found that. [530.56] Curry: Wind Slayer. [531.44] AndyRC: Wind Slayer, because I know, I know that because I've just bought one for the Hero 8 and 7. [537.12] Curry: Oh, that's for the 8. [538.0] Curry: I'm going to go with foam condom. [539.76] Curry: I think I like that better. [541.12] Curry: Yeah. [541.76] Curry: Yeah. That really cuts down on the noise. [543.12] Curry: So if you're out in a field, GoPros are terrible. [546.0] Curry: If you haven't got anything covered in them for making a noise. [548.08] Curry: I used to use an external microphone, [550.24] Curry: but the external microphone is particularly bad near a radio and picks up interference. [555.2] Curry: And so I might do some exterior bits to myself. [558.48] Curry: And then I use this because it's, it's part of the freeway. [561.68] Curry: I can just unscrew that. [563.84] Curry: I've got a little tripod so I can shove that down and I can feel myself flying around and stuff. [568.4] Curry: And then all I'm trying to do is I take out like four batteries or eight batteries, [573.28] Curry: and I'll do this over a couple of days maybe, is fly around and try and, [578.4] Curry: my first couple of batteries are trying to get sort of actual, [582.8] Curry: make sure I can fly up and down. [584.24] Curry: Don't do anything too dangerous where I might smash it up and ruin the day. [588.4] Curry: And as soon as I've got things like, you know, I've flown past [591.36] Curry: and I've done sort of general flips and I could fly around, [594.08] Curry: then I'd be a bit more confident about let's do some more exciting things. [598.08] Curry: Let's go through the trees. [599.28] Curry: Let's do flips and loops and all sorts. [602.32] Curry: And I'm trying to just get as much footage as I can. [604.88] Curry: And for me personally, I then shove all that on the editor. [609.12] Curry: And what, what I'm trying to think about is like what happened during a flight? [613.92] Curry: What, what did I like about it? [615.28] Curry: What didn't I like about it? [617.68] Curry: Was there anything, anything niggly when I was setting it up that I didn't like? [621.44] Curry: And I'm trying to, I don't script it, [623.36] Curry: but I might make a couple of bullet points about what, [626.16] Curry: what I need to remember to say about certain things. [628.96] Curry: And then I'm just trying to grab bits of the flight, [631.12] Curry: which I think this is interesting. [632.88] Curry: And normally I've got, you know, 30, 40 minutes of flight footage. [636.4] Curry: So it's not, it's not hard grabbing things from it. [639.12] Curry: Any exciting or interesting crashes, anything that went wrong. [643.6] Curry: I like to try and talk about why it happened. [646.24] Curry: And I'm just trying to then talk about the sort of fly I was doing [650.24] Curry: and pretty much how I felt about it as opposed to like [653.76] Curry: the sort of technical stuff about it. [655.84] Curry: I often like to focus about stuff that's personal to me. [660.16] Curry: Like I like this quad because it ticks my particular boxes, [663.6] Curry: might not tick other people's boxes, but I like it. [666.48] Curry: And I just do my voiceover stuff. [669.2] Curry: You ever on about that for a sort of three or four minutes, [672.4] Curry: and then I might do some sort of closing thing [674.56] Curry: where I'm just sort of sat here and like waving it about saying, [677.6] Curry: here it is again, I'm doing this. [680.64] Curry: That, that is my general, that is the curry kitten trademark formula [684.64] Curry: for reviews, which it may not be very exciting, [687.36] Curry: but it kind of, it works for me. [689.76] Curry: It feels quite organic because when I'm getting something new, [693.52] Curry: that's the sort of stuff I'm doing anyway. [695.2] Curry: I'm looking at it. [696.0] Curry: I'm like, Oh, this is interesting. [697.12] Curry: I'm putting on beat of light. [698.08] Curry: I'm seeing what's going on. [700.0] Curry: And then I'm taking it out and flying it and seeing what, [702.4] Curry: what I can do basically with it. [705.12] AndyRC: Has your process had to change having a house full of people [709.36] AndyRC: because that's something that I had to change [713.68] AndyRC: when the people who I live with are constantly in the house. [720.16] AndyRC: Have been for two years. [725.76] Curry: They're a little bit kind of in the way. [727.76] Curry: So it's like I reviewed the green, the green hornet, [734.0] Curry: which I may have taken and flown it through the house and went out again. [738.16] Curry: But the fact that the family was there means I didn't have any credible excuse [742.48] Curry: for why I smashed something up, for example, if it, if it went wrong. [746.32] Curry: But, you know, it came in handy. [747.92] Curry: I got Sophie to hold my phone so I could fly the little Uzi 65 around [752.88] Curry: and she could follow it for me and got some extra footage that way. [756.08] Curry: It's just a bit, bit weird having people there because where I can, [762.16] Curry: if I'm flying in the house with like whoops and stuff, [765.92] Curry: I've always got, I can always sort of sort it out so I can like turn lights on. [770.0] Curry: I can open doors as I want them to. [772.32] Curry: And now I'm flying around and there's people wandering through and stuff like that. [777.92] AndyRC: Turning all the lights off. [779.2] AndyRC: Why are all the lights on? [781.04] Curry: What are you doing? [781.84] Curry: Or yeah, they're in the kitchen making a mess. [784.8] AndyRC: Well, I think me and MJ probably got a different answer to that because [790.96] AndyRC: we, I mean, I mostly make my videos. [795.84] AndyRC: Well, I mean, the flying is obviously done in a day, [798.88] AndyRC: but all the talky bit is usually done anywhere between one and six in the morning [805.76] AndyRC: because that's where everybody's asleep and there's nobody giving their front lawn [812.96] AndyRC: or back lawn a Brazilian three times a day because we're in quarantine [817.12] AndyRC: and there's nothing else to do. [818.72] AndyRC: There's nobody moving their bins around, which basically just like, [823.6] AndyRC: you know, 24 bass drums in the streets that just get moved around. [829.28] AndyRC: Yeah. [829.84] AndyRC: So that for me, the talky bit happens late at night, [835.68] AndyRC: not just for the people I live with either that it didn't used to be. [841.68] AndyRC: Yeah. [841.92] AndyRC: But when I had the house to myself and it was summertime. [849.2] AndyRC: Yeah, it was you could do the, you know, the talky bits at whatever time you wanted to [856.72] AndyRC: and then go out and fly. [857.92] AndyRC: But now I usually do the flying part first in the winter. [862.88] AndyRC: You kind of have to do that anyways, because you've only got about three hours of useful [867.36] AndyRC: light and that's what if you've got the weather as well. [871.6] AndyRC: But there's another part to the title of this video and it says and influence people. [879.52] AndyRC: And that part for me has got to be about, you know, making videos that you want to make, [891.04] AndyRC: you know, that you're into because I've definitely like in the past when starting [898.08] AndyRC: up when somebody says, oh, we'll send you this free toy and you're like, all right, awesome. [903.28] AndyRC: And you get it and you're like, why did I say yes to this kind of thing? [907.12] AndyRC: And then, you know, but you kind of have to take on those sort of things if you want to sort of [913.6] AndyRC: build viewership if, you know, looking at different tech and new tech is your thing. [920.4] AndyRC: But for me now, you know, I have to really enjoy the thing that I'm doing. [926.72] AndyRC: I think as long as you enjoy the thing that you're doing, then, you know, you'll gain a [934.48] AndyRC: following and influence people at the same time. I get asked questions all the time. [939.36] AndyRC: Andy, how do you get free stuff? The answer is you don't get free stuff. You think working 15, [946.8] AndyRC: 16 hours on a video when you receive a quad, does that mean you've got it for free? Because if I [953.36] AndyRC: charge, I don't know, minimum wage, 14 quid an hour, that's not exactly free, is it? You know, [960.0] Curry: you take the price. I'm not convinced you're in touch with what minimum wages, but it's certainly [964.0] AndyRC: not for free. I think my sort of average... It's my 8 quid, isn't it? [970.48] AndyRC: Oh, I think it's dollars in a million. [972.96] Curry: Spot the investment banker. I don't know. How much is it? [975.52] Curry: About 50 quid, something like that? [978.8] AndyRC: I don't watch many British stuff. I think is it $14 in America? I'm sure if there's 14 as a... [985.44] AndyRC: I think it might be $14. [988.08] NJ: At the minute, that's about 50 quid if you take the currency. [994.72] Curry: Yeah, I don't particularly like the tag like influencer because it's like... [1000.56] Curry: I'm not really got an agenda there. Obviously, there is affiliate sales and that's pretty much [1007.6] Curry: how we make any money at all or barely scrape a living. But it's not like, oh, this is the best [1014.64] Curry: thing ever. This is the best thing ever. Because if you keep just doing that, it's just crap. [1019.52] Curry: But I think there's ways around that. If you get something in that's a bit of a duff and [1024.08] Curry: you know, if you guys are anything like me, if someone suggests this thing and it looks crap, [1028.32] Curry: you'll just say, no, because that's going to be rubbish. You want stuff that looks good. [1032.16] Curry: And if it turns out to be really bad, then at the end of it, I'll be saying, this is bad. [1037.2] Curry: If you're in the market for this sort of thing, hold up other product, which is better. And it's [1042.4] Curry: like buy this instead. And that way, it's still like there's a positive marketing at the end of it. [1047.12] Curry: Like the Usseg 65. I love the Usseg 65. It is now my favorite whoop. I think it's better than [1056.64] AndyRC: the Mobula 6. Go watch my video and see what you think. [1062.8] Curry: I've made my video now, which comes out tomorrow. Okay, go watch mine. [1068.64] Curry: I'll watch yours after mine releases and I'll be like, ah, what did I miss? [1073.44] Curry: But that's the thing. It's all objective. And I said, I said, this absolutely ticks my boxes. [1080.8] Curry: This is the kind of flying that I like to fly with. And I said, like, many people will disagree. [1085.84] AndyRC: Just preemptive people. I think I think what happened with mine was that we've had some really [1095.84] AndyRC: nice weather. So I decided to fly outside and, you know, like a lot of the tiny, especially [1102.88] AndyRC: the 65 millimeter size, they're not really outdoor flyers, but the Mobula 6 just absolutely [1110.72] AndyRC: kills it indoors and outdoors. And for me, that was why it was also the camera. And we won't go [1118.56] NJ: into it. Let's not go into it. Have you two got different KV versions? Just just to... [1123.12] Curry: We have different KV versions. You've got the 25,000 KV. I got the 19,000 KV. So they were [1131.52] NJ: quite similar. How are you? What the hell was that? How are you? That's Jack stroke Ned from [1142.0] AndyRC: South Park. Oh my God. I know you smashed these. My new voice. My new voice. I'm having to translate. [1151.44] Curry: I quite like it. Tony's also a good example. If you are going to film yourself, don't forget [1160.0] Curry: lighting. Do I not? LED lights are quite handy. Just put your face in. I can't be bothered to [1174.48] Tony: lean over there. Jack, I like your new voice. Can it go faster? You're going to get a girl [1188.45] Tony: round and not talk and just get Tony. Like Tony did to his GF. Like Tony did to his BF. I think it was [1199.65] Tony: GF. Oh, GF. Smash. Smash. It's all in the timing. Is that why you like Tony? No, I was out on a mountain [1212.85] Tony: bike ride. I was just really, really late. I did tell the guys I was going to be late. [1223.65] Tony: Things got up me. I had a long day at work and stuff. [1228.77] NJ: So come on, Angel. What about you then? To be honest with you, I think mine's probably fairly [1235.01] NJ: similar to, I think we've all got something in common in some of our processes. I'm the same. [1240.21] NJ: I don't script anything. But again, I have bullet points of things I want to talk about. I usually [1245.97] NJ: start off by going out and flying. And just like hurry, because I've learned the hard way, [1250.85] NJ: you make sure you take your pictures of how beautiful it looks before you start crashing. [1255.41] Curry: Before it's under a tractor. [1258.53] NJ: Do you know what? That's exactly the one. If it wasn't for beta FPV, actually saying, [1267.41] NJ: don't worry, we'll give you another one. I wouldn't have been able to do anything on that. [1272.21] NJ: But that was the turning point where it was like, right, 100% getting all the B-roll of that now. [1278.21] NJ: But interestingly, the one thing I have made a big, I've only ever used Premiere Pro. And [1284.61] NJ: the last video I did, I switched over to DaVinci Resolve. And I've got to say, I mean, I hate [1291.57] NJ: having to learn anything because I have to do all the time in music where I'm working between [1295.09] NJ: either Logic Pro or Pro Tools or a lot of the big ones. It's a pain switching. And when you [1299.73] NJ: really know a particular editor, you don't really want to start from scratch with another one. [1305.73] NJ: I can tell you now, if you're on Premiere Pro and you go to DaVinci, it will take you [1310.53] NJ: like a couple of hours and you'll know your way around it. Not only that, I actually think it's [1314.61] NJ: better. There's so many great things about that. And it's free. I mean, I can't say enough good [1320.61] NJ: things about DaVinci Resolve. I'm still kind of scratching my brain as to how they've just given [1326.13] NJ: that away. That free version has got so much good stuff in it. So yeah, I'm going to be [1330.93] NJ: sticking with them for the foreseeable future. Really good video editor. But yeah, same order [1337.41] NJ: is pretty much the same order as you guys. Get the footage, get back, do the top-down view of [1343.49] NJ: the quad, talk about it, reference notes I've got to make about it from flying it and things [1348.77] NJ: I've inspected on it that I think need to change or whatever. Put that in the editor and then what [1356.13] NJ: I will do actually is usually once I've done it, I'll give it a good... Well, I try and leave it a [1360.13] NJ: day at least so I can look back at my footage. And that's usually when I'll go, I forgot to say [1366.29] NJ: something. I forgot to talk about that. And I'll then drop in another just a little thing. Because [1371.33] NJ: I hate that when I publish a video and then realized I've missed something that I really [1374.37] Frank: wanted to put in there. So you do like your voiceover and stuff kind of as part of the [1379.01] NJ: editing process. It depends on what's happening. Sometimes, yes, but the majority of the time [1387.73] NJ: I'm talking into the mic whilst with the top-down camera doing what I'm doing. If there's anything [1393.25] NJ: I need to say, then I'll drop in voice over the top. But yeah, it's just whatever is the [1399.97] NJ: fastest method for you, I guess, because we all don't want to be sat in front of an editor for [1403.81] NJ: any longer than we have to be. That's the only sort of soul-sucking part of it. I quite like [1408.69] NJ: editing the flying videos. They're good fun. I really enjoy it. I enjoy syncing the maneuvers [1416.21] NJ: to the music and I really, really enjoy that. It's the review stuff I find could be a bit [1422.77] AndyRC: laborious, shall we say, at times. Yeah, I spent like 10 hours on a three-minute freestyle [1429.73] AndyRC: video just making it match the music and everything, making it do funny stuff and that. [1440.53] Curry: Quite a lot of time. It was quite interesting. [1443.97] Curry: Every time I do a sim release, I do a video and for the network stuff, I had to get Jack [1451.01] Curry: and Frank to fly where I wanted them to so I could film them. It was just like being [1457.17] Curry: out in the field. Jack's like, ah, where are you? I'm at the hill, which hill? By the tree, [1462.45] Curry: which tree? Ah, I've crashed. Where are you? It's just went on and on like that. Just [1467.65] Curry: fly in the line slowly that way and I'll follow behind. It's enamity ensued. [1475.25] Frank: It is quite funny that we can turn up here every week and we'll record for an hour and [1482.21] Frank: at least half of it will be complete nonsense. It goes out to the world. [1489.57] Curry: Well, that is pretty much what most of my recording sessions filming myself are. There's [1495.25] Curry: a lot of absolute nonsense there. There is a huge amount of, if you look at my videos, [1501.01] Curry: you'll notice them. This is not because I'm keeping it tight. It's because I'm getting [1505.01] Curry: rid of all those absolute scrubs or me just going, what's that quad chord again? I don't know or [1511.41] Curry: shouting at the dog to shut up because he's making a noise, that sort of stuff. [1516.53] Curry: Final cut pro for me, obviously, because I'm a Mac user. I didn't know that I knew my editing [1524.45] Curry: software that well. Sometimes you don't think about it, but then you look down and it's like, [1530.29] Curry: I'm just doing all these keystrokes and the mouse this end. I'm just going, not even thinking about [1537.41] AndyRC: it. Shortcut half my editing time when I figured them out. I figured them out way too late as well. [1549.25] NJ: The one for me is zooming the timeline. That is just constantly having to move the timeline in [1554.29] NJ: and out, just zooming the splice. That's the one that gets spanned the most. [1559.65] Tony: Can you do something for that one? [1563.81] NJ: If you go over to DaVinci Resolve from Adobe, by the way, you can take the shortcuts with you. [1570.37] NJ: So it will say, when you first load it up, it asks you if you've come over from Adobe. [1577.09] NJ: You can just start using it with all the Adobe shortcuts. [1582.45] AndyRC: I might need to do that, seeing as this whole situation has left me potless. [1587.09] TTS: So any free stuff, I'm sure. [1599.49] Curry: This now sounds like hell when it's dying. [1603.65] Tony: What's that cod calls out your minges? [1607.17] Tony: Can you type daisy daisy? [1609.25] Tony: Any type falling with style. Thank you very much for your donation or just shout out. [1614.21] TTS: What are you doing, Dave? [1616.93] TTS: Thanks to falling with style. [1621.25] Tony: That's it. [1624.29] Tony: Can it go a little bit faster? [1634.93] Curry: That's what a senile AI sounds like. [1636.93] Curry: What? [1638.93] Curry: What? [1640.93] TTS: What? [1644.93] AndyRC: Jack, surely your computer has like a built-in microphone if you're not using the audio interface. [1650.45] AndyRC: All computers have like a mic input at least. [1653.97] Tony: Sounds like more of a potato than that though. [1656.45] Frank: And you have like three cameras. Surely one of them has a microphone on it. [1660.93] Curry: He says he had a microphone on his inbuilt web camera, but it sounds awful. [1664.77] Curry: But it's got to be better than robot voice. [1667.01] AndyRC: Yes, surely. [1671.78] TTS: It's going so mad. [1677.3] AndyRC: Oh, dear. [1678.98] AndyRC: Anyways, Tony, I thought what did I see chasing a wing this week online? [1684.02] Tony: Yeah, I've been out flying this week pretty much every night. [1686.98] AndyRC: Was that you and Sovaie? Was it you and Jokerfishing, was it? [1690.66] Tony: Yeah, he's been out as well. [1692.34] Tony: So yeah, I was chasing his wing. [1694.02] Tony: That was my old wing. [1695.06] Tony: I got more from five years and years ago. [1700.18] Tony: Sorry, I haven't muted anything. [1703.94] Tony: Yeah, so yeah, I've been mucking around in the evenings. [1707.86] Tony: Flying after a Danny boy and his wing. [1711.78] TTS: Say, welcome to OpenTX. [1718.94] Tony: There's a five pound donation from... [1722.3] TTS: Oh, he is gay. [1725.58] Tony: Thanks. [1726.7] Tony: We've got... [1727.82] NJ: We've done our disclaimer yet. [1729.74] NJ: I think the robot... [1730.62] NJ: Can we do the disclaimer in the... [1735.42] NJ: No robot disclaimer, please. [1737.02] NJ: Yeah, come on. [1738.38] AndyRC: Come on. [1744.86] Tony: So I'll tell you what I use for filming. [1748.22] Tony: Go for it. [1749.98] NJ: This. [1752.3] NJ: Hero. [1752.86] NJ: It's on, isn't it? [1753.9] NJ: Hero five. [1754.7] TTS: We don't know this. [1755.98] TTS: And you expressed by end guests on this show are personal [1760.46] TTS: and may not reflect the new mothers. [1765.5] Curry: This was like from a Vic 20, surely. [1768.3] Curry: This is... [1769.1] AndyRC: Pretty abrasive. [1770.78] AndyRC: It's not exactly Alexa, is it, quality? [1777.82] Curry: It's nice that... [1779.34] Curry: Oh, we can hear it. [1780.22] Jack: He speaks. [1781.42] Jack: Does that work? [1782.94] NJ: Yeah, that's all right. [1783.74] NJ: Have you known all along, are you kidding? [1786.06] NJ: Yeah, of course, yeah. [1786.94] NJ: Okay. [1788.14] Jack: 29 minutes of sensibleness. [1791.5] Frank: This episode was recorded in front of a live online audience, [1794.62] Frank: downloaded and edited to make sense when it played audio only, [1798.22] Frank: censored to please the iTunes people, [1800.06] Frank: hosted on the internet, [1801.1] Frank: forwarded through to your podcast provider, [1802.94] Frank: downloaded, playing on your device, [1804.78] Frank: and is now playing in your ears. [1806.62] Frank: All thanks to our Patreons. [1808.78] Frank: Consider joining them and you'll also get other online benefits. [1812.22] Frank: Find out more at patreon.com forward slash let's drone out. [1816.38] Curry: I was just going to say with Tony showing that mic there, [1818.94] Curry: I think if people are sort of starting out [1821.5] Curry: and wanting to sort of film themselves doing stuff, [1824.46] Curry: two things that sort you out from sort of being sort of crap to acceptable [1832.06] Curry: is first is sound. [1834.06] Curry: Just having a dedicated microphone makes such a difference. [1837.5] Curry: Whether you're just like some cheapie plug-in mic for your phone [1840.94] Curry: is fantastic on a voiceover rather than just having a phone on its own mic. [1847.26] Curry: It's just so much better. [1848.62] Curry: And if you can get that lighting, just lighting your face properly, [1852.54] Curry: then it will look an awful lot better. [1854.14] Curry: You don't need sort of fancy cameras and stuff. [1856.3] Curry: You can do it on a phone, [1857.18] Curry: but just the extra thing about getting your lighting right, [1859.82] Curry: getting a decent mic will just lift your video up way, [1864.22] Curry: way much more than just, you know, your normal sort of gubbins. [1868.54] Tony: Yeah. [1868.86] Tony: This is directional road mic with a dead cat. [1873.42] Curry: Yeah, you've got the same one as me, Tony. [1874.86] Tony: Dead cat. [1876.78] Tony: The thing is with this, when you press start on your GoPro, [1880.54] Tony: which I always forget to do, [1883.74] Tony: and you've got this bit that you have to buy from GoPro, [1888.14] Tony: which is an extra bloody 50 quid, [1890.94] Tony: just for the, you know, it powers the mic. [1896.46] Tony: When you put it in the port and press go, [1900.14] Tony: it says mic okay, but it never is okay. [1902.94] Tony: You can stand there talking, playing back, [1904.78] Tony: and it just doesn't record. [1907.18] Tony: What I have to remember is take that out [1909.74] Tony: and then put it back in, and then it works. [1913.58] Tony: Do you have that problem at all? [1915.9] Curry: No, because I'm using it with this camera, [1918.06] Curry: which is a lot easier. [1919.42] Tony: With a GoPro, you must take it out and plug it back in, [1923.74] Tony: otherwise it just doesn't record your audio. [1925.82] Tony: But when it works, it's really good [1927.5] Tony: because you can have super view and all that lot. [1931.02] Curry: That's the mic I do use for my GoPro 4, [1933.34] Curry: but that's just a very simple, [1935.5] Curry: I've got, there's an adapter actually for this, [1937.34] Curry: there's a special, I didn't pay 50 quid [1940.14] Curry: because on a GoPro 4, I can get this third party adapter [1944.14] Curry: and this whole setup's about 20 quid, [1946.54] Curry: and then that's directional as well. [1948.22] Curry: But as I said, it can pick up interference from the radio [1951.74] Curry: if you're doing that. [1952.46] Curry: But if you're just filming yourself and stuff, it's really nice. [1955.02] AndyRC: And if you've got the GoPro with the screens, [1957.9] AndyRC: so like the silver, Hero 4 silver, [1961.26] AndyRC: it picks up interference off the screen [1963.9] AndyRC: and also the Wi-Fi as well, so you have to be really... [1968.54] Curry: I have picked up this off the screen, Andy, to be honest. [1971.42] Curry: I've done quite a lot of filming on that one with the 4, [1973.5] Curry: which has got the screen for silver. [1976.06] AndyRC: Does your screen turn off after a certain amount of time? [1980.3] AndyRC: I've had that problem, [1981.42] AndyRC: and I was like, the Wi-Fi's off. [1983.02] AndyRC: And then I was like, oh, I kept the screen on fully [1985.42] AndyRC: because I needed to frame some stuff with it. [1989.5] AndyRC: And it ended up being the screen that was causing some problems. [1994.78] AndyRC: But I'm switching now because in my last video, [2000.46] AndyRC: I put the GoPro 8 on my head and it was like, [2005.02] AndyRC: I'd got a gimbal on my head. [2006.62] AndyRC: It was such a... [2007.74] AndyRC: The only thing I'm struggling with is the audio a little bit [2012.22] AndyRC: because the new Hero 8's got this wind canceling thing, [2016.46] AndyRC: but it doesn't sound very natural. [2019.98] AndyRC: And it works, and it still picks up and does weird things [2023.74] AndyRC: with one of these sound condoms on, [2026.86] AndyRC: so I'm still trying to figure that out. [2028.86] AndyRC: But overall, the picture from that, [2032.3] AndyRC: the stability with hypersmooth on your head, [2035.66] AndyRC: it looks like someone's got a point and a gimbal at your quad, [2040.22] AndyRC: and it's just on your head. [2041.66] AndyRC: That I'm going to start using, I think. [2044.22] AndyRC: I think it's time to hang up the Hero 4. [2047.74] AndyRC: It's been going for a few years. [2049.42] AndyRC: And mine is... [2050.54] Curry: I did use my GoPro 7 Black for a couple of things, [2053.66] Curry: and I looked at the picture of quality from it. [2055.42] Curry: I was like, actually, that's nice. [2056.94] Curry: But yeah, I have to get myself a new wind condom. [2061.66] NJ: You said that your head's quite a good gimbal on its own, [2064.22] NJ: so anything mounted to your head's going to have a little... [2065.9] AndyRC: Oh, MJ, you would be surprised that it did. [2069.34] AndyRC: Depends on who you are. [2070.54] AndyRC: I thought so. [2074.78] AndyRC: For me, I mean, you know, somebody said... [2078.86] AndyRC: I think somebody said, someone, have you had a camera man? [2081.26] AndyRC: I was like, no, it's just that smooth. [2083.58] AndyRC: It really is like a gimbal, but the hypersmooth when it's on your head. [2090.22] AndyRC: Anyways, go and take a look. [2092.78] AndyRC: It was like my last, the speed, the DJI speed video. [2097.42] AndyRC: I did a line of sight with the quad, and it was like, [2100.3] AndyRC: even when I saw it back, I was like, yeah, that's better. [2106.22] AndyRC: Yeah, that video is making me want to buy DJI stuff. [2111.02] AndyRC: Yeah, yeah, it's making a lot of math. [2115.26] AndyRC: It's funny, actually, when the DJI thing came out, [2119.58] AndyRC: I think I talked about it on this show. [2121.9] AndyRC: I took it to the indoor sports hall club that I'm a member of, [2125.5] AndyRC: and everyone was like, oh, it's a bit pixely. [2127.98] AndyRC: All the lights, and now every single person in that video owns one. [2134.06] AndyRC: So I've thought about doing a little funny clip [2137.34] AndyRC: where they're all slagging it off and then put at the end, [2141.42] AndyRC: every single person in this video went and bought one. [2146.78] AndyRC: Yeah. [2148.22] AndyRC: I think when people are trying to find issues with that system, [2154.06] AndyRC: they're trying to convince themselves reasons not to get it. [2158.22] AndyRC: Not all that. [2158.94] AndyRC: Exactly that. [2159.9] AndyRC: Yeah, yeah. [2160.7] AndyRC: It's too dear. [2161.98] AndyRC: It's not that great, bam, bam, bam. [2163.98] AndyRC: Especially if you've already spent that amount of money on analog gear, [2167.9] AndyRC: which a lot of us have, you know? [2169.58] AndyRC: Yeah, yeah, of course. [2171.1] NJ: The thing is with the DJI system, it wasn't that great to start with. [2175.34] NJ: It was revolutionary, and everyone just, you know, the wow factor was there, [2179.66] NJ: but it wasn't that great practically. [2181.26] NJ: Whereas now, there's just been so much great stuff done with the firmware updates. [2185.9] NJ: It's a very different unit to when I first started using it as to what it is now. [2191.74] NJ: But yeah, I absolutely love it. [2194.54] NJ: It's definitely the way forward for me. [2196.78] NJ: And new hardware coming. [2198.3] AndyRC: In fact, I got to cover something up on this. [2203.1] AndyRC: Probably won't show up anyways. [2204.7] AndyRC: But this is the new Nano camera. [2207.34] AndyRC: There's something here that I wish I could show you, but I can't. [2212.3] AndyRC: That's for the aftershag party, right? [2214.62] AndyRC: No, I'm afraid not, NDA. [2216.7] AndyRC: But yeah, some exciting stuff coming for the DJI stuff, I have to say. [2222.06] Curry: See, I'm very much in the favour of like, DJI looks amazing. [2225.58] Curry: I'd like to try that, but I'm just in the... [2227.66] Curry: I can't possibly afford it, so I'm just going to be glum. [2231.18] Curry: Some people will then convince themselves actually it's rubbish [2235.02] Curry: because I can't afford to buy it. [2237.26] Curry: It reminds me a little bit of the old, just aged myself here, [2241.1] Curry: the Spectrum versus Commodore 64 or the Atari ST versus the Amiga, [2245.02] Curry: where somebody buys one, they'll put all their eggs in that basket [2249.26] Curry: and they'll slag off the other no matter what. [2251.66] Curry: Because the one I've got is better and I don't like yours. [2254.78] Tony: It's the same with PS than Xbox, isn't it? [2258.38] Curry: Oh, we could bring it up to date and say PS4 versus Xbox One. [2262.78] AndyRC: We have to buy them all. [2264.78] AndyRC: We like to have the crowd. [2266.62] AndyRC: We like to be in a conservative or labour. [2272.14] AndyRC: We like to stick to us, you know. [2274.38] Jack: Nintendo or Mega Drive. [2279.18] Frank: That's actually a psychological phenomenon [2280.94] Frank: because they've done that with people with memory loss. [2285.9] Frank: So they've only got short-term memory [2289.82] Frank: and they give them a painting but hide it until they've forgotten about it [2296.62] Frank: and then give them the option of two paintings [2299.02] Frank: and they'll always go for the one that they've been told was theirs. [2302.7] Frank: So there's this circuit in the brain of things that you own is better. [2308.3] AndyRC: Yeah. [2311.82] AndyRC: But what if you own both of them and don't have a preference for either? [2319.74] AndyRC: That's my perspective on this whole thing. [2324.14] AndyRC: That's what makes me sad. [2325.26] AndyRC: It's like people are fighting over it and it's just, you know, [2333.5] AndyRC: whatever you like to use, then just use, you know. [2337.02] NJ: I like this in the chat. [2339.58] NJ: We got Sega or Amiga. [2342.14] NJ: It would actually have to be Amiga for me. [2343.82] NJ: That was such a big part of my Amiga 500. [2347.1] NJ: Yeah, I had all the Sega consoles and I've still got two of them. [2350.06] NJ: I've got the Mega Drive, the Mega CD, the Master System. [2355.42] NJ: Two of those are still in the loft. [2357.1] NJ: But I've got to say, it was just the Amiga. [2362.46] NJ: It was so awesome. [2363.82] NJ: I had just a box full of games on the Amiga. [2366.86] NJ: I love that thing. [2367.74] AndyRC: Well, I had the choice between the Commodore 64 or the Mega Drive. [2371.42] AndyRC: So the Mega Drive was like a supercomputer for me. [2375.1] NJ: Oh, the Holy Grail compared to the... [2377.98] NJ: Lost Jack, I'm making a father and father. [2380.06] Curry: You get that, you bastards. [2381.74] Curry: You know I've been after those. [2383.74] Curry: Son of a bitch. [2385.02] AndyRC: You losers. [2385.82] AndyRC: What do you have to hold shit for? [2387.5] AndyRC: What do you be buying VHSs next? [2389.42] AndyRC: Jesus. [2390.78] Curry: I've still got two boxes of Amiga floppies in my loft. [2395.74] Curry: Just in case I could get an Amiga back. [2397.98] Curry: There was actually a bunch of programs I wrote that I can't remember how to do this particular [2402.46] Curry: sine-cosine function where these sprites are going around in such a lovely pattern. [2407.02] Curry: And I need to get back off that desk to find out what I did. [2410.54] AndyRC: Yeah. [2411.02] AndyRC: Floppy is the word that cooks the mind when you talk about that sort of stuff. [2415.9] NJ: If you had an Amiga, you'll remember X coffee. [2418.54] NJ: That's all I'm going to say. [2420.62] NJ: That was how everything got shared around school. [2426.06] NJ: Dear oh dear. [2427.18] Curry: Tony King, feel free to send me one of those because I still need them. [2433.1] Curry: And I haven't got them. [2434.3] Curry: That's sad times. [2435.5] Curry: I can't remember. [2436.46] Curry: I don't believe I got rid of my Amiga. [2438.06] Curry: I don't get rid of anything. [2439.74] Curry: If you could see what's in the shelving here and above, [2442.86] Curry: it's just littered with consoles and games and stuff. [2445.34] Curry: But for some reason, my Amiga's not here. [2448.46] Jack: My Amiga battery leaked so bad, it totally killed it. [2453.66] Tony: I had the Spectrum 128 with a disk drive. [2456.62] Tony: Yeah. [2458.46] NJ: I thought it was a cassette only. [2460.14] NJ: Did they they brought a disk drive? [2461.42] Tony: No, it was a disk drive one on it. [2463.98] NJ: Wow, posh. [2465.74] Tony: Yeah, I think my dad had a good year, that year. [2468.62] Tony: Capping. [2473.42] Jack: They would have dazed. [2474.14] Jack: You had to stick a load, don't lie. [2479.74] Tony: That's good, that's good. [2481.1] Tony: We had good fun on them games. [2482.7] Tony: And then PS1, and then I've had all the PS's, [2486.3] Tony: and I'll probably get a PS5 when it comes out. [2488.3] Tony: And I think it's coming out this year, isn't it? [2490.94] Curry: Well, we got to just to see what Unreal 5 is all about. [2494.3] Tony: Yeah. [2494.78] Curry: It's just the engine. [2495.58] Curry: We just want to see the pretty graphics. [2498.3] Tony: It's looking good. [2499.98] Jack: Have you got an RTX card, Enjay? [2503.02] Jack: Are you part of the future? [2504.46] NJ: I've got 1080 Ti. [2506.46] NJ: I haven't gone to RTX. [2507.42] NJ: I'm skipping that. [2508.06] NJ: I'm going to go to the next release. [2510.78] NJ: RTX just wasn't as big a jump for me to make it worth the price tag. [2517.42] NJ: When that card dropped, RTX was awful and just super... [2520.06] NJ: I mean, it's still is power hungry, [2521.34] NJ: but it was just not very good. [2522.94] NJ: And now it's better. [2524.86] NJ: It's still power hungry. [2526.94] NJ: It's not worth it. [2527.98] NJ: So yeah, I'm going to wait for the next series. [2529.74] NJ: So I'll stay on my 1080 Ti, which is still beautiful. [2533.42] NJ: Is RTX still in video? [2535.26] NJ: Is it different? [2536.22] AndyRC: Yes. [2537.18] NJ: AMD have got their own version, which I can't remember the name of, [2541.26] NJ: but they're all working on their own version of this type of lighting. [2546.14] NJ: Because I mean, there's a beta version. [2550.86] NJ: I really have to correct myself for this. [2555.5] NJ: Yeah, there's a version of Minecraft. [2557.9] NJ: If you own Minecraft on the Microsoft Store, [2559.74] NJ: you can get the beta version, which lets you turn RTX on. [2563.26] NJ: And even the 1080 Ti's with RTX are crying, running that thing. [2569.02] NJ: That's how, you know, as in sub 100 frames per second, [2573.66] NJ: it's like 70 or something, I think, to render it 4K. [2577.42] NJ: It's crazy, crazy hungry, but it'll get better. [2586.53] Frank: Can you say 100 frames per second, like that's a bad thing? [2590.45] Frank: Like, I don't get more than like 20 frames a second on anything. [2601.41] NJ: I shutter at 60. God, 20. [2605.33] NJ: That's like a flick book. [2606.93] Frank: Exactly. [2608.61] NJ: I could animate it faster than you're seeing that. [2611.09] Curry: See, over here, I ticked the box as VSync, [2613.73] Curry: because what I can't be dealing with is like varying frame rate. [2617.65] Curry: Just lock it down to 60 frames a second. I'm happy. [2620.93] NJ: You're right. VSync is fantastic. [2623.01] NJ: The problem is the input latency. [2624.69] NJ: So all the guys, all the competitive gamers won't turn it on. [2628.05] NJ: They'll just run it at whatever the graphics card will churn out, [2632.93] NJ: which is maybe 200, 250 frames per second or something. [2637.73] NJ: Just conquers. [2639.49] NJ: But yeah, VSync, I like VSync for the prettier games. [2644.53] NJ: You're going to stay there, Ryan. [2647.87] Curry: Well, that's quite a digression, isn't it? [2650.83] NJ: Yeah, that was an unusual direction. [2655.63] AndyRC: What we should talk about is NJ recently had a change in direction on his channel [2661.55] AndyRC: if we are talking about channels. [2664.43] Curry: Fleshlights, was it, or something else, do you get confused? [2667.79] AndyRC: I knew that would come up. [2669.55] AndyRC: Come on, NJ. [2672.19] NJ: Even that title bothered me, because I thought, [2675.23] NJ: they're torches, right? [2676.59] NJ: We're British. We call them torches. [2678.43] NJ: And I thought, hang on a second. [2679.79] NJ: I know statistically, like 55% of my subscribers are American. [2686.91] NJ: So I thought, I won't put torch. I'll put flashlight, [2690.27] NJ: which just meant there was at least six Fleshlight comments in the... [2696.35] Jack: Whoever those six people were, I'm proud of you. [2699.39] Jack: And if you'd like to subscribe to a channel where it may or may not [2704.19] Jack: contain a Fleshlight, youtube.com forward slash Brighton Drive Live. [2710.59] NJ: Yes, not a new direction, but under the tech bubble of NJ hasn't been sent anything to review [2717.79] NJ: for a while. I found that my extensive collection of newfangled Flashlights, [2725.71] NJ: that's the new way of saying it. [2729.23] NJ: Yes, I thought I'll just talk about those because, you know, it's something to do. [2733.55] AndyRC: I have to say, I've been around when he got his torch out and it was pretty impressive. [2740.03] AndyRC: You're not helping. [2743.39] NJ: That was a genuine thing, and it still sounded wrong. [2747.47] NJ: You see, the thing is, every time I step foot back in this little arena, [2755.87] NJ: where Jack is muted, essentially, the essence of Jack is still here doing its work. [2763.31] NJ: You don't understand what he's all about. [2764.75] Jack: The Lord's work. [2768.51] NJ: You're all disciples and you don't even know it. [2771.79] AndyRC: My car got stuck, right? Me and NJ are in the car. [2776.03] AndyRC: My car got stuck. He got out, got his torch out, and we escaped and we were fine. [2782.51] AndyRC: There you go. That's almost normal, isn't it? And it was very handy, wasn't it? [2786.99] TTS: Exactly. [2787.47] TTS: The girth on the left, the brightness. [2796.27] Jack: If I die, I expect you all to carry on as normal. [2802.19] Tony: I'm going to carry on in that voice. [2806.83] Curry: We can just replace you with an AI with that voice. [2809.15] Curry: I should be able to code up in a couple of hours. [2811.87] Jack: There's maybe enough stuff that I've said over my old podcast and this podcast. [2818.51] Frank: Well, we'll just pay a transcription service to transcribe everything that you've said on LDO, [2824.83] Frank: and then we'll feed that into a generative adversarial network, and then we'll just have a [2829.79] Frank: button that presses. [2832.83] AndyRC: Jack's thing that he's got where it does it. [2835.31] AndyRC: AI Jack. [2837.23] AndyRC: Yeah, we did have a couple of sensible episodes when Painless did the Back to the Future thing, [2844.51] AndyRC: and then Jack came back and everyone was like, what the hell is this, Chef? [2850.83] NJ: That's the thing I love about Lee. He'll come in and he'll just roll with an Iron Fist, [2855.07] NJ: march on with the timings. [2856.75] Jack: And yeah, the best thing is, whilst I was doing that bonus little thing with him, he basically [2871.39] Jack: put on his full channel. [2877.39] Jack: He had a ring at the doorbell and he ran off and he was wearing shorts and didn't have any shoes, [2881.55] Jack: and I was making commentary and saying stuff about him. [2886.43] Jack: So I know that he had, at one point, he was like editing and being like, [2894.03] AndyRC: I got caught out in it. [2895.63] Curry: Yeah, he got some edits. There were lots of beeps when Jack spoke. [2900.51] Jack: Oh, did he beep out my swearing and stuff? [2903.15] Jack: He beeped out your swearing. Have you not watched it back? [2905.87] Jack: No, I haven't. [2906.99] Jack: Did I swear that much? [2908.11] AndyRC: I didn't notice anything. [2910.43] AndyRC: There was no swearing and all the comments were very nice. [2913.87] AndyRC: One said it's nice to see Jack acting normal, for once. [2920.27] AndyRC: To be fair, I did type that comment, but still it counts. [2928.91] Frank: Seeing Jack trying to talk seriously and just being very nervous, [2934.99] Frank: it reminded me of being back at school when people had to go out the front of the class [2939.87] Frank: and give them a little talk. [2941.87] AndyRC: I don't think he looked at this. I think he looked all right. [2945.15] Jack: How many times? [2946.91] Jack: That was just me masturbating under the table. [2950.11] NJ: Is that acting normal? [2951.79] NJ: Is he acting normal by whose standards? [2954.03] NJ: Because I bet our standards of his normal are different to other people's. [2958.67] NJ: Do you know what, despite us going off on a tangent, [2960.83] NJ: I don't know if you've seen in the chat, but there is lots and lots of talk about [2965.31] NJ: we've got Golden Axe, we've got Wolfenstein. [2969.47] Jack: The Blues Brothers game, where they threw records, so good. [2975.71] Jack: Someone said Michael Jackson game, I remember that. [2979.79] Jack: What was it? Deathball, you know that? [2981.71] Jack: No more curses. [2983.15] Jack: Deathball, was that it? [2986.43] Jack: You're in an arena and you pass the metal ball around. [2989.71] Jack: Speedball. [2990.43] Jack: Speedball, that's it, yeah, like heroin and coke at the same time. [2994.59] Tony: What's that dragon, what's it, double dragon? [3000.11] Curry: Double dragon, you could just do the whole thing with the elbow. [3004.11] Tony: You could just elbow, cut the whole thing. [3006.51] NJ: So it's that from the end, where you had to fight your mate. [3009.07] Jack: A tiny girl bite me, a couple of times. [3010.83] NJ: One of you had to get the girl at the end, [3012.19] NJ: so you had to fight your mate if you were playing with your friend the whole way through. [3014.91] NJ: That's a shame, a kill with one of the others. [3016.91] NJ: Yeah, one of you had to go. [3018.91] NJ: That's it. [3021.47] Tony: He's one pound in an arcade, he would last all day. [3025.55] Curry: Well, that's the thing, double dragon, I timed it 20 minutes to go. [3030.11] Curry: So you think you're being like, oh, look at me, I'm so cool with my elbow. [3033.23] Curry: It's only 20 minutes a game. [3037.07] Frank: Just trying to kind of bring it back, [3039.79] Frank: topping a conversation to something where I can have any input at all. [3046.11] NJ: Final fight, that was the one I loved back in the arcade. [3048.51] NJ: Oh yeah, final fight, that was good. [3052.27] NJ: Final fight. [3054.91] Jack: Sorry, you're completely in love with my comfort zone now. [3060.51] Jack: I mean, old game territory is like, oh, bloody zoomer over there. [3064.59] Jack: I don't know what a video game is. [3066.51] Jack: What? You used to pay money for it to play them. [3072.11] Frank: So, I mean, the original thing I was wanting to get people talking about, [3075.95] Frank: the kind of process for getting a video out, [3078.35] Frank: because I mean, I'm just as guilty as Jack, really, as having ideas. [3085.15] Curry: And never getting videos out, Frank. [3088.11] Curry: Because you have lots of ideas and you do lots of interesting building things. [3092.27] Curry: And you do lots of filming as well. [3093.95] Curry: I'm just going to do a live stream for four hours. [3097.23] Frank: Yeah, well, that was kind of the thing. [3100.91] Frank: I mean, me and Jack have made, like, plans to make multiple videos. [3106.59] Frank: And we've met up and we've done the things and we've filmed it. [3109.63] Frank: And we've had, you know, multiple cameras and multiple microphones and recordings. [3114.59] Frank: And we've had made sure it's all on a memory stick and then not done anything with it. [3123.79] Curry: Terrible. [3125.87] Curry: So what is stopping you? [3127.23] Curry: Is there some intimidation of the editing phase because you've got all this stuff [3132.19] Curry: and no clear idea about how to put it all together? [3136.67] Frank: Yeah, I think that's the thing. [3137.71] Frank: I mean, even like other videos I've put together or filmed myself and I've, [3142.51] Frank: you know, spent ages just going through the footage and noting down which timestamps [3149.07] Frank: and which files and things need to actually go in and where the interesting things are [3154.19] Frank: and all that kind of thing. [3155.95] Frank: And then actually sit down and start editing and lose interest at that point. [3161.79] AndyRC: Oh, if like the editing part is the bit that you don't enjoy then, [3167.63] AndyRC: just, I mean, you've both got full-time jobs. [3170.59] AndyRC: Just do the thing because it's fun and don't put it on YouTube for me. [3175.39] AndyRC: Exactly. [3175.79] Frank: That's all I do, really. [3177.07] Frank: But there's something to it. [3178.19] Frank: It's like this would be nice to make a video of, [3181.15] Frank: especially when we've like spent the time filming it. [3183.71] AndyRC: For me, like when I started my channel, I was so motivated. [3188.19] AndyRC: I was working full-time and I was doing voiceovers for videos in my car on my lunchtime at work. [3195.63] AndyRC: Wow. [3196.03] AndyRC: And then I'd come home, film the video, edit it, you know, and it was up, you know. [3202.35] AndyRC: I probably made more videos back then than I did now. [3205.07] AndyRC: I was just like, just mad on it. [3207.55] AndyRC: I just love the entire process. [3209.47] AndyRC: So if you don't love the entire process, but you like part of the process, [3215.23] AndyRC: it doesn't mean that you have to make a video out of it. [3218.59] AndyRC: It's like Jack, you know. [3220.43] AndyRC: He made his Mavic. [3223.95] Jack: It felt really, really when bloody, was it RCLobotics? [3231.31] Jack: I was like, oh, I never knew Jack made that. [3233.07] Jack: I really want to watch the video. [3235.31] Jack: And there is no video. [3238.83] AndyRC: You look like you have to have that like, you know, even if you don't have it, [3244.51] AndyRC: if you haven't got the drive, then it just doesn't happen. [3247.15] AndyRC: And if you've got the drive, you know, I'm the same now, you know, [3249.55] AndyRC: I've been doing this for years. [3251.07] AndyRC: And, you know, just recently, I think with all this lockdown stuff, man, [3256.11] AndyRC: I went to like a really dark place. [3258.67] AndyRC: And then when the flying field opened and I could fly again, it was like, [3264.27] AndyRC: like I could breathe again, man. [3265.87] AndyRC: And like, just videos hitting almost every single day. [3269.79] AndyRC: And it was like going back straight to the start, you know. [3272.59] AndyRC: So, yeah. [3275.39] Curry: There is no point to that, isn't there? [3277.39] Curry: Which is sometimes if you queue stuff up and like you've gotten all this stuff [3283.23] Curry: and it's going to be absolutely epic, then it can be too much. [3286.43] Curry: It's like, I want to mountain climb. [3288.75] Curry: Let's hit Everest. [3289.87] Curry: You don't do that on your first time. [3291.15] Curry: So sometimes if you're not like making videos every day, then it's easier to go. [3296.19] Curry: Let's go simple. [3297.07] Curry: Let's do some easy bits together to make a video. [3300.19] Curry: And all the time you're doing these nice, easy videos, [3302.35] Curry: you're getting very familiar with the software. [3304.35] Curry: You're starting to get into a process. [3305.95] Curry: It starts to become second nature. [3307.23] Curry: And you sort of ramp up to where you're like, oh, let's get multiple angles, [3310.91] Curry: multiple mics and mix them all together and cut it all to music. [3314.43] Curry: That's like a couple of steps along sometimes. [3317.07] Curry: So sometimes it's a case of like, we've got this epic stuff, [3320.59] Curry: but it's like it's too much because we're starting from dot [3324.27] Curry: and we can't just go straight to that. [3325.95] Curry: We have to have some little things on the way to get us there. [3329.55] Frank: I do. I've done a lot of video editing over the years. [3335.23] Curry: All right. No excuses and get on with it. [3336.75] Curry: Lazy. [3337.23] Frank: I know. I know that before FPV did like still a load of RC stuff. [3343.23] Frank: And even like in school did like video editing courses and clubs and things. [3350.19] Frank: And I really did forget how you are with video editing. [3354.75] Curry: That's amazing. [3355.47] Frank: Yeah. I mean, we still like at school, it was still the point of having like [3362.11] Frank: DV tapes. It wasn't like SD cards at that point, but still there was that. [3369.31] Curry: We had a BBC Micros at my school and that was that was luxury. [3373.79] Curry: We came on from a Commodore pet. [3376.67] Jack: This this was this is my problem was that I originally learned how to edit on [3383.07] Jack: Final Cut Pro 5, which was the original one with like the horse and everything. [3389.47] Jack: And that's what I kind of like learnt how to do. [3393.15] Jack: And then I started using iMovie. [3396.03] Jack: And then how long did me and you spend editing the Mini Air Show 5 video and the RC? [3406.51] AndyRC: Oh, couple of days, was it? [3408.75] Jack: Yeah, a couple of days. [3409.71] Jack: Would you like to know how many views that got? [3412.35] Jack: How many views? [3413.95] Jack: 207. [3416.27] AndyRC: Yeah, well, I took me if if you if you're thinking about this, this was the same right as well. [3424.67] AndyRC: Like people think I need to get views. I need to get subscribers. [3429.15] AndyRC: If you have if you are in that mindset, you you will fail straight away because that was never [3435.23] AndyRC: like YouTube for me, my computer was so crap. [3438.03] AndyRC: I do when I got into FPV, I do a flight video. [3441.79] AndyRC: And I had that little space on my computer. [3444.67] AndyRC: YouTube was the only place I could keep it, right? [3447.63] AndyRC: So I was uploading just flight videos just so I could watch them back. [3451.63] AndyRC: No music, no editing, whatever. [3453.87] AndyRC: And like, somehow people would find them like the odd person that my videos are strictly [3462.03] AndyRC: a personal diary of the stuff I've done. [3463.95] AndyRC: Not a great way to build it. [3465.23] AndyRC: No, it is. [3466.19] AndyRC: That's what I'm saying. [3467.63] AndyRC: Like my channel was a way was a way to store videos that I didn't have enough room on my [3472.51] AndyRC: computer. And then people would say, and of course, I'd sit there modifying it and things [3478.03] AndyRC: like that. And people would say, Oh, how did you do that and stuff? [3481.23] AndyRC: And it was like, Oh, well, it'd be quicker for you to make a video on it. [3485.71] AndyRC: Like we'll just just point my phone and show it. [3488.75] AndyRC: And then that got it took me two years to get 500 subscribers, man. [3493.55] AndyRC: And I didn't know that at the time because I wasn't counting. [3498.83] AndyRC: And I wasn't counting views. [3500.91] AndyRC: You couldn't monetize videos back then. [3504.19] AndyRC: But I was spending hours and hours, four hours, all of my spare time outside of work [3512.83] AndyRC: doing this stuff because I found it interesting and enjoying it. [3516.51] AndyRC: And if you don't do it for that purpose, then don't do it, I would say. [3522.91] Curry: Yeah, I agree with any. [3523.87] Curry: And that's the reason I highlighted Eric's comment there. [3527.39] Curry: You're pretty much doing it just for yourself because it's fun to do. [3531.23] Curry: And if people don't watch it, then they don't watch it. [3533.55] Curry: If they do watch it bonus. [3535.07] Curry: But I think if you took away, I've said this before, and I think we've all said before, [3540.75] Curry: if you take away the monetization or the affiliation stuff, then I think I'd still [3544.99] Curry: be putting out the same videos because it's kind of like fun to do. [3549.79] Curry: It obviously wouldn't be so much product stuff because somebody [3552.35] Curry: he wouldn't be sending me stuff. [3553.47] Curry: But I still be making videos because it's quite fun. [3556.19] Curry: I enjoy it. [3557.63] Tony: I love going out flying. [3559.79] Tony: Go out flying, do a days FPV, run somewhere, even at the local field at the moment, [3566.19] Tony: but we should all be allowed out soon. [3569.47] Jack: I just feel like, you know, no one cares. [3573.31] Jack: You know, like the sort of. [3575.23] AndyRC: Yeah, no one does care. [3576.59] Jack: I'm sorry, I'm just like, what am I doing here? [3578.59] Curry: The amount of effort you put in a video does not reflect his views. [3583.23] Curry: Sometimes we've all done this and we had a formula for it. [3586.51] Curry: It'd be amazing. [3587.87] Curry: You know, I've spent days, weeks, and months putting videos together, [3591.71] Curry: which have been like, whatever, we might as well throw it in a bin. [3594.67] Curry: And then I've just done like a five minute just like, oh, I've just thought of this. [3597.87] Curry: I'll just do it quickly. [3599.07] Curry: And that goes crazy for some reason. [3600.75] Curry: It's like, why does that happen? [3602.35] Curry: So it's nothing to do with the amount of effort you put into it. [3605.39] Curry: It's just like what happened on the day. [3607.63] NJ: It's nearly always the opposite. [3609.39] NJ: Actually, I find the ones I spend the most amount of time on are the ones with the least views. [3614.83] NJ: Yeah, I've said it before. [3617.79] NJ: I've said it before, one of my biggest, I mean, my tutorial stuff did really well, [3624.91] NJ: but my still my best video that's done the best is a review of a soldering iron. [3630.51] AndyRC: I mean, and mine's been really useful. [3637.15] AndyRC: And the only reason that it's popular is because I was feeding geese and not ducks. [3641.87] AndyRC: So half a million people, half a million people thought that they wanted to tell me that they [3648.11] AndyRC: were Canadian geese and not ducks. [3650.59] AndyRC: So it took like 15 minutes to make that video. [3655.79] AndyRC: Another example, last year, my friend Phil decided to put an FPV camera on one of those [3661.31] AndyRC: little bikes. [3662.75] AndyRC: It took me less than half an hour to edit the video together. [3667.31] AndyRC: 63,000 views in like the space in the space of two weeks where I spend sometimes 16 hours [3674.35] AndyRC: and get to 3,000 views. [3676.59] AndyRC: You can't think about views, man. [3678.51] AndyRC: You've got to be enjoying it. [3680.35] AndyRC: And I hold my hands up, right? [3682.67] AndyRC: And someone will have said, or like, I bought something like I bought a one eight scale, [3690.43] AndyRC: it's like huge RC motorbike. [3693.15] AndyRC: And at the time, because I had a go of one, I was like, this is amazing. [3697.15] AndyRC: Then it turned up. [3698.03] AndyRC: And I was just like, oh, man, why did I do that? [3701.15] AndyRC: I'm not, I'm not so much into it. [3703.15] AndyRC: And, you know, you sort of, I think between the time something, [3706.51] AndyRC: something seems like a good idea at the time. [3708.43] AndyRC: Then when it arrives, you're like, oh, I'm definitely guilty of that for sure. [3712.83] AndyRC: But you've got to find things that you love. [3715.71] Frank: It's still my favorite video that I've ever made. [3720.19] Frank: And it makes me happy every time I watch it is the LDO YouTube channel intro. [3725.63] Tony: Yeah, I enjoyed that video a lot. [3734.91] Jack: You've got enjoy being there all sexy and he's hardly ever here. [3739.15] Jack: I hate. [3742.67] Jack: I really missed you and Joe. [3744.91] Tony: So in your sexy robot voice and you might go. [3749.71] Curry: I can link back to our previous conversation on games to say my most popular video was [3754.67] Curry: a Halo 2 ending, which I call the legendary ending, which has had 1.8 million views, [3760.43] Curry: mostly people telling me that there isn't a specific legendary ending for Halo 2. [3765.79] Curry: And thus, you are shit. [3772.19] AndyRC: There's the genius. [3773.15] AndyRC: Yeah, it's essentially trolling. [3775.71] AndyRC: I always put a little mistake in my videos on purpose. [3778.67] AndyRC: And I put the thing at first because I saw Josh doing it and I even admitted it. [3785.07] AndyRC: It was like, you want to get views? [3786.75] AndyRC: Put a little mistake in there because people would love to like people love correct. [3791.47] AndyRC: I can see a lot of sense in that. [3793.15] AndyRC: It's like I had that one that was today that somebody said, [3798.19] AndyRC: I think you'll find it's KHP, not KPH. [3804.35] NJ: Whatever. [3804.91] NJ: Yeah, the pedantry is just unbelievable. [3809.55] NJ: What I don't like, I don't mind it when people comment and they say, oh, by the way, [3815.23] NJ: this is actually this or it's interesting, but you've got that wrong, but here's why. [3819.79] NJ: It's when people will say you've done this massive long technical review and all they'll [3825.23] NJ: do is just say, you said this wrong and there'll be nothing about the video. [3830.35] NJ: Nothing to say the video is great. [3831.79] NJ: Good information. [3833.23] NJ: It will just say, oh, you said that wrong or you called it something when you shouldn't, [3838.19] NJ: you should have called it this instead. [3840.11] NJ: And you think, have you literally just come on to specifically correct me on one time? [3844.75] NJ: It's going to make a lot of difference. [3846.27] TTS: The answer is yes. [3847.95] NJ: Yeah, this hobby needs a name, doesn't it? [3852.99] NJ: It's a form of pedantry. [3856.11] Jack: It's called sea lioning. [3858.27] Jack: That's its actual term. [3859.63] Jack: Really? [3860.27] AndyRC: Is it really? [3862.91] Jack: It's not trolling, it's sea lioning. [3867.39] Curry: I like the people that comment as they go, which is weird because normally, [3872.35] Curry: for me, I watch the whole video and then I decide. [3874.59] Curry: But some people, you see a comment, it's like, why didn't you talk about this? [3878.99] Curry: And then two seconds later, it's like, oh, okay, you did. [3881.31] Curry: I didn't watch that bit yet. [3882.35] Curry: And then they'll comment again at the end of saying, oh, yeah, I now watch this bit. [3885.15] Curry: That was interesting. [3887.87] NJ: My favorite one. [3890.35] NJ: Sorry, go on, Jack. [3891.63] Jack: Oh, it's a time for trolling or harassment that consists of pursuing people with persistent [3896.59] Jack: requests or evidence of repeated questions while maintaining the prevalence of [3901.31] Jack: civility and sincerity. [3903.63] Jack: It might take the form of insistent, bad faith in variations or engaging in debate. [3913.87] Frank: Why is it called sea lioning? [3916.43] Jack: I don't know, but it's just like, it's the thing about being genuine and civil and then [3924.83] Jack: just setting someone off and then maintaining that sort of level of. [3929.55] NJ: The other the other one I thought was. [3933.15] Jack: That's my secret impression. [3934.43] NJ: That was more like the scheme we do. [3939.39] NJ: That was pretty good, actually. [3941.71] NJ: Go on, I put a video up and I use the word practice in it. [3948.91] NJ: And that's that was the best thing I could have done, because obviously, [3952.35] NJ: there's a couple of ways to spell practice with different meanings. [3954.99] NJ: There's a practice is in the place. [3956.51] NJ: And then this practices was in repetition to learn something. [3960.27] NJ: And I put something FPV practice. [3963.39] NJ: And I've never seen so many comments go up and then immediately get deleted after whoever's [3969.15] NJ: tried to correct me has looked it up and realized that all these years they've been getting the [3973.23] NJ: spelling of practice wrong. [3976.43] NJ: That was great fun. [3977.71] NJ: I just saw the notification come up. [3979.31] NJ: And by the time I clicked on it to see to see their comment, it had gone already. [3983.71] NJ: And this this happens like for a good a good few days of people. [3987.95] AndyRC: Hey, I think about their spelling. [3990.35] AndyRC: I think there's something we should talk about, though, because it's quite a big deal in it. [3996.03] AndyRC: It's around sort of like Joe Rogan taking his podcast to Spotify. [4001.95] AndyRC: I mean, we've always talked about there's no platform to compete with YouTube. [4006.75] AndyRC: But if Spotify are going to come up with like a video platform for Joe Rogan, then [4013.47] AndyRC: surely they're not just going to use it for Joe. [4016.19] AndyRC: And the idea is that the platform where I now the censorship is crazy that is getting [4022.19] AndyRC: demonetized like crazy. [4024.51] AndyRC: And, you know, what do you think? [4026.99] AndyRC: I think that could be I mean, it's such a big pull. [4030.27] AndyRC: Rogan, do you think Rogan disappearing from our platform? [4036.67] NJ: Well, if you thought the monetization of YouTube was bad, [4039.87] NJ: you ain't seen nothing yet when it comes to Spotify. [4042.43] NJ: I'll just say that as a musician, I know this. [4044.67] Curry: Yeah, aren't there many musicians that just don't do Spotify? [4049.07] Curry: Because yeah, they're literally just the play is so ridiculously small. [4052.91] NJ: They're like, forget it's fractions, fractions of fractions of a penny. [4056.19] AndyRC: But what if it changes, though? [4058.27] AndyRC: I mean, I know they've Joe's got some Paul, they gave him 100 million. [4062.99] AndyRC: A lot of artists said I would have to stream like 19 billion of my songs [4068.27] AndyRC: to get that same amount of money. [4070.67] AndyRC: So I think it was a lot. [4072.11] Tony: But but I know platform then or not. [4076.91] Tony: Or is it just going to be the actual podcast of him speaking? [4080.11] AndyRC: Because they are watching it as well. [4082.27] AndyRC: They're building a video platform specifically for Joe. [4086.91] AndyRC: But I can't imagine that they're just going to keep it for Joe, you know, [4092.51] AndyRC: you know, and if and that's going to have adverts in it as well. [4096.59] AndyRC: So who knows what that will mean for the creator? [4100.59] AndyRC: If it's a sort of a video, and the thing about songs as well [4104.51] AndyRC: is they're quite short on in like three minutes, but our videos, [4108.35] AndyRC: 20 minutes to an hour sometimes, adverts and that could that mean more? [4113.63] AndyRC: I don't know. [4114.27] AndyRC: I don't know. [4115.47] Jack: We don't really make any money from streaming anywhere. [4120.19] AndyRC: It's just I'm talking about bigger YouTube. [4122.27] AndyRC: I'm talking about the being a new Jack. [4127.15] AndyRC: No, not me. [4128.59] AndyRC: I just thought it'd be an interesting conversation. [4131.55] AndyRC: Do you think that that was going to be? [4133.79] AndyRC: I mean, Jack thought it was going to be twitch, right? [4136.51] AndyRC: But that's it's not it's not taken off like this platform. [4141.07] AndyRC: But if someone as big as Rogan, you know, moves, that's that's a big thing. [4148.91] AndyRC: Maybe just for the podcast world. [4150.51] AndyRC: I don't know. [4151.07] AndyRC: But if if I'm in YouTube is used for a lot of podcasts. [4155.31] AndyRC: And, you know, if enough people go, I've got this Spotify thing now, [4159.23] Jack: where all my major went to mixer. [4162.83] AndyRC: So was he bigger than Rogan? [4165.39] AndyRC: Was he? [4167.31] Jack: Well, I don't know. [4169.31] Jack: I don't actually care about it. [4170.75] AndyRC: It was an interesting topic, seeing as we're talking about video creation. [4175.55] AndyRC: And and this is the only platform, but it does seem like even after [4181.23] Frank: you've used or have used or how you have been meant to pronounce it on there. [4188.27] AndyRC: I agree with Frazier. [4189.63] AndyRC: Yeah, it says the same will happen with Spotify. [4192.11] AndyRC: Advertisers will never accept user generated content as as premium. [4198.35] AndyRC: What I think will happen is like, I mean, YouTube used to be before Google owned it. [4204.51] AndyRC: You could do anything on there. [4205.87] AndyRC: People are loading TV shows. [4208.35] AndyRC: Google took over and it started to start to feel the pinch. [4212.99] AndyRC: And now it's like, what can you put? [4215.55] AndyRC: And I think Spotify are going to run it. [4218.35] AndyRC: What will probably happen is they'll just run into the same lawsuits [4222.43] AndyRC: that YouTube came across and it'll get that same pinch. [4227.63] AndyRC: Because essentially, it's about being demonetized about [4232.19] AndyRC: showing other people's copyright playing a song or talking about a certain thing [4237.71] Frank: that, you know, it's about at a point you get big enough and successful enough [4243.79] Frank: that you're now a target for exactly what to actually behave. [4248.91] Frank: But we've got to call it there. [4251.31] Frank: If you want to hear our back catalog of of edited podcasts, you can go to Spotify. [4259.87] Frank: And you should let it turn out on Spotify. [4262.67] Frank: How did the game happen? [4264.51] Frank: So that's an option. [4267.23] Jack: Thank you. [4267.87] Jack: You've been listening to Let's Throw Now. [4269.15] Jack: You've been joined by everyone's favorite Curry kitten. [4272.03] Jack: Goodbye. [4273.63] Jack: I will try to call you 10% less sexy on frequent shows the more you come on. [4278.99] Jack: NJTag. [4280.83] NJ: See you when I believe it. [4281.87] NJ: Bye, everyone. [4284.27] Jack: My little love tone star that's been stolen by his African queen. [4288.75] Jack: Onjaw. [4291.39] Jack: He's my wife. [4292.43] Jack: I'll have you know. [4293.71] Jack: Uh, everyone's. [4296.43] AndyRC: Andy, I see you couldn't be. [4300.83] AndyRC: It just means anyone's word. [4302.27] Jack: I was looking for was liability. [4304.67] AndyRC: Useless. [4305.63] AndyRC: How am I a liability man? [4308.11] Jack: My favorite person to edit a video with Andy RC. [4312.91] AndyRC: Well, I just want to say, Jack, if you are going to dial down the sexiness [4316.91] AndyRC: and Jay for 10% and I'm going to lift up 10%. [4320.03] AndyRC: So [4321.39] Jack: it's a deal. [4322.43] AndyRC: Good evening, everybody. [4323.95] AndyRC: Thank you for tuning in. [4326.43] Jack: And everyone's favorite organizer of the Mini Air show. [4330.11] Jack: Andrew slash rank. [4331.63] TTS: Night. [4333.39] Jack: Thank you. [4333.79] TTS: Bye. [4334.43] TTS: And I'll be right back. [4336.51] TTS: Bye. [4338.03] TTS: Telemetry loss.
