[0.0] Jack: Hello and welcome to Let's Drone Out. The best, well the only UK FPV podcast
[6.8] Jack: sponsored by the lovely people from our Patreon. Patreon.com forward slash Let's Drone Out.
[12.88] AndyRC: In particular we'd like to thank these guys. Art Faulkner. Mikey Dredd. Wacky Wes. David Powell.
[24.24] Jack: Thank you guys. You're the best. We can edit our podcast. Thank you.
[58.94] Jack: Hello and welcome to Let's Drone Out.
[64.06] Jack: Yeah, the world's gone a bit crazy. You are listening to Let's Drone Out. Today you are
[71.74] Jack: joined by the love of my life, my ex-wife, my little Tony. For sure. The sexiest man alive,
[80.3] NJ: N.J. Tech. Hello everyone. Okay. We're there each week. It's all right. Everyone's favourite
[88.3] Jack: curry kitten. Hello. Can we get a disclaimer please? Yes, I found it today. Legal notice.
[95.1] Curry: Any views expressed by any guests on this show. Personal and may not reflect the views of the
[99.02] Jack: host or any participant of the show. Thank you, carry on. And it is now safe to introduce Andy R.C.
[107.1] Jack: Hello everyone. And the wizard behind the curtains working all the controls, Andrew slash Frank.
[114.38] Jack: Good evening. Oh how I enjoy skipping down your yellow brick road and I'm bright until I fly.
[120.62] Jack: Hopefully we can try and cheer everyone up. N.J. I've been doing some like reviews of some
[128.94] NJ: things that aren't torches. Well I haven't actually done a review as such but I am going
[137.66] NJ: to do a, I haven't talked about the latest build that I have on my channel properly so I'm going
[143.9] NJ: to do that. My success build. Which I love very much. Success or success? Actually we can we can
[152.06] NJ: further that joke. Success with a success. Is that how you say it? I always get stuck on it and I'm
[161.5] Curry: like are they trying to say success? I think they were. No it's sex at the end I'm afraid. Yeah it's
[169.18] NJ: basically sex at the end. Yeah sex. Yeah that's Patrick's humour I think. Yeah from my flight.
[178.62] NJ: That's it. Yes and it's actually got quite, it's an old, it's one of the V1s.
[184.38] NJ: It's a pretty old version, just one that I had. Is that F7 or when you say V1s?
[194.22] NJ: It's the F4 stack with the, it's still BL Heli32 and obviously I'm not surprised because there are
[204.94] NJ: physics reasons why it does work but micro stacks work beautifully with success.
[213.02] NJ: Of course the up up volts down amps principle it's all it's all good so it's been yeah I've
[220.06] NJ: probably put I don't know about about 30 packs I think through this so far and it's been
[226.94] NJ: absolutely wonderful. So this is the Halo RC Osiris. This is actually a prototype frame
[232.78] NJ: because the front and the tail have been actually a little bit longer on the production
[239.66] NJ: model so this one's a little bit stubbier. But this is actually the six inch arms with a five
[246.46] NJ: inch with a five inch setup and there's super skinny arms which you know I like, does a better
[254.06] NJ: job getting out the way of the airflow and yeah nice thick and strong it's just a brilliant bit
[260.3] NJ: of engineering. I always sing Chris's engineering praise but he's done such a great job with this
[265.82] NJ: well I've crashed it a bunch too. But yeah very very happy with it. It's a wonderful thing
[273.02] NJ: slowly converting over the DJ. It is yeah yeah it's got the the air unit in the back and Chris
[280.3] NJ: the good thing Chris always puts up all the principle files for these. So yeah the camera
[287.66] NJ: camera mount the GoPro mount it does a session mount as well I think. I think there's a few
[294.06] NJ: different options there and then this little caddy at the back. I think most people now
[299.98] NJ: building this would probably if they were scratch building just go with a Vista instead of going
[305.5] NJ: with the air unit but I've got two air units so I wanted to use them up but there's a caddy for
[309.98] NJ: that in the back. And then the mount for the air antenna and I've got the TBS Nano Crossfire in there
[318.62] AndyRC: out on one arm there. What props are those MJ? They look like the Nazco ones but are they Azure?
[328.06] NJ: These props I've been running for a while now are which I absolutely love these are the Johnny FPV
[333.5] NJ: props. Which are Azure aren't they? Which are Azure yeah so that's why they they probably got
[338.14] AndyRC: a little bit of a hallmark about them. Yeah I just put those on my fans quad and it flew really well
[344.38] NJ: and they're successful. They're so smooth yeah they're super smooth they just have they're rigid
[352.14] NJ: in the right places so they are very very stiff at the at the near the root of the blade and then
[359.02] NJ: there's a nice amount of flex at the tip. So then because they're more about the flight dynamics
[365.82] NJ: than they are about durability when you crash them you'll probably then need to I mean they'll
[372.7] NJ: bend some people just bend them back I can't do that. I can't do that. Come on man you've got
[380.46] NJ: hyper smooth now you don't need to replace props anymore or worry about any of that. Yeah exactly
[388.3] NJ: but yeah these these just fly so so beautifully and there's a 6s I'm running a 6s radiating
[395.9] NJ: shadows which are the their monster 6s 1250 milliamp 100c and with that the very heavy GoPro
[405.34] NJ: black and the air unit and everything else in it it's a just under 700 grams so it's not a light
[414.22] NJ: it's a beast but that's the thing with 6s it just does not care. Those Johnny FPV props I found very
[422.46] AndyRC: efficient as well. It was a 4s rig that I built and with an 1800 milliamp 4s we were getting like
[432.22] AndyRC: eight minute flight times out of it pretty and that was with the DJI system as well so
[437.5] NJ: pretty impressive. The way I fly I'm getting a good four minutes before I need to to bring it
[443.66] NJ: in and land so it's definitely uh definitely working well and just just infinite amount of
[449.9] NJ: power. The motors on these by the way just so we mention those are these are the slightly older
[456.54] NJ: Zing you know one of the early ones but still a great motor. That's the people still I think
[461.74] AndyRC: they're still widely used those motors are they there what state are they? So these are 2207 1700
[470.38] NJ: KV which then success brings this to around a mid KV build mid low it's not like a super crazy
[478.62] NJ: RPM but I was interested what I was interested in was how this was going to perform compared to my
[483.1] NJ: 4s Archon build because that I'm running 2750 KV on 4s and I thought there'd be a quite a bit of
[493.5] NJ: a difference in terms of flight field between a very high KV setup and the same props and then
[498.62] NJ: a lower KV setup but with more oomph because you're on success and the flight fields are very
[505.5] NJ: similar yeah both work great but it's just that absolute I'll tell you what it is what I've what
[512.06] NJ: I kind of really when I speak to people about success the best way to describe it coming from
[518.78] NJ: 4s is it's not that because everyone the way batteries are now battery density and the amount
[525.5] NJ: of amps they can sustain at a given voltage is is generally very good if you don't buy a naff
[529.82] NJ: brand they're so good that you can do those crazy maneuvers where you're really sustaining full
[536.14] NJ: throttle and it's not really a problem and there's not going to be that much feel difference between
[542.46] NJ: 6s and 4s then but what it is it's it's after you've done that crazy powerful maneuver and you
[549.1] NJ: get it wrong a bit and then you need extra power to suddenly recover because you've messed up the
[554.7] NJ: powerful maneuver that's where the 4s starts to sag so you've had your burst power and now you've
[560.38] NJ: messed something up and you need to jam it again for recovery and that's where I find the 4s will
[564.86] NJ: start to go no you never mess it up well I mean obviously uh I was looking for my crash footage
[573.58] AndyRC: the other day yeah have you seen what the latest trend is though on 6s and j just just to finish
[583.1] NJ: my thread of thought but yeah it was just that thing with 4s is there is a point where 4s will
[588.22] NJ: start to give up on the on continuing that that amp draw and 6s you can go back in at full throttle
[594.62] NJ: and it just delivers the same ultimate power and it does that pretty much right the way to the end
[600.62] NJ: so you've got a very harsh shelf on 6s when it gets to the end of its usable voltage it just
[605.02] NJ: sort of goes to sleep and you'll you'll fall out the skies yeah but the usable power is incredible
[610.46] AndyRC: sorry what were you saying oh well um that there's like a new I don't know how new this
[616.54] AndyRC: trend is but um I've noticed a lot of people buying high kv motors so uh you know like
[625.82] AndyRC: what what we used to you know was it like 2600 2700 kv and then put in a uh like a throttle limit
[634.62] AndyRC: on them and then sticking 6s on them so you can either put 4s or a 6s lipo on it to have
[641.66] AndyRC: like a different profile and yeah I mean that would work I'm not sure that that's the most
[647.02] NJ: efficient way of using a motor um yeah you'll get a less less efficient use on uh when you're using
[658.14] NJ: it on the higher volts so things will get probably get hotter and yeah yeah I'm not yeah
[665.5] NJ: thinking about yeah I don't I don't that's not the best but the best way but yeah it's far you
[669.26] NJ: could do it the other way around it would be to if you had a setup like this which I guess most
[674.3] NJ: people don't is I also switch this out to six inch bi-blades and then go 4s so I drop the volts
[682.3] NJ: and go to uh I'll be obviously running 7.2 volts per rpm lower on the motor so the kv will go down
[692.94] NJ: and therefore I can switch this out for a six inch bi-blade which is obviously nice and efficient
[699.42] NJ: and then I've got a nicely geared six inch long ranger with 4s so that's quite a nice
[706.54] NJ: reason for running six inch arms and a five inch setup that's interchangeable that way so yeah
[711.58] Curry: there's a couple of ways to skin the rabbit right yeah so nj on the um on the dji thing you've
[720.06] Curry: obviously got the gopro there as well how is that an absolute necessary so it's it's just the case
[726.22] Curry: although the a unit obviously records it's really a case of dji is good for the goggles but if you
[731.5] Curry: want the best smoothest recording it's always going to be the gopro well I think um in terms
[737.9] NJ: of the footage I think it's very very usable really quite good the uh the air unit recording
[744.86] NJ: and the bitrate is decent enough I think Andy's mentioned it before it's sort of comparable to a
[749.9] NJ: session five I still think it's not quite as nice that's that's that's kind of either the beholder
[755.42] NJ: stuff and obviously you've got to manually mesh the super view if you want to get that out of
[761.42] NJ: that super view warping you've got to put that user plug in to get that um or use the old gopro
[768.38] NJ: studio there's links where you can get those so that you can drop the file in and apply the filter
[772.7] AndyRC: oh no there's not no didn't do that um theoretically what I say about it is I think um the way I say
[784.7] AndyRC: it's comparable to a session five I don't think the um the bit rate and the resolution obviously
[791.74] AndyRC: doesn't go as high as a session five but I think it makes up in dynamic range I think uh even
[799.02] AndyRC: dynamic range is awesome dynamic range is better than the current hero line it just doesn't have
[804.3] AndyRC: the stability the super view and all of that and the sound of course as well as nowhere near on
[811.1] NJ: so that's where you need to stick a gopro yeah agreed but the hero eight has been I skipped
[817.58] NJ: quite a few generations uh I think the last one I had was a five with yeah it was the five series
[824.54] NJ: gopros uh so I've now since having those now gone back to uh gopro growth height eight black and
[832.86] AndyRC: that's been uh amazing the only annoying thing with it it's a different size so all of my oh
[839.58] AndyRC: I've got loads of zero seven five to seven mounts that don't fit so that's very annoying
[846.46] NJ: but other than that it's great yeah so there's just yeah there's my 4s ark on uh with the gopro
[853.66] NJ: five on it um just to give you an idea so that's with the 2700 2750 you know I'm also
[861.66] NJ: stator on this is 20 I don't know 220 2306 okay so very comparable stator in a different direction
[872.14] AndyRC: but yeah you can get both of them yeah I think I just slightly prefer the 23 stator to the uh 22
[879.5] AndyRC: for freestyle I find that I don't know I find them just a little bit smoother and I don't know
[885.1] AndyRC: why I mean maybe it could be me uh yeah I prefer 2306 because I've got um I've got an iFlight DC5
[893.42] AndyRC: with the 2207 those exact ones the 1750 kv and it's a weird thing it's it's a feel thing isn't it
[901.34] NJ: because I'm I'm 2207 I there's just something in there that I prefer but I know everyone's got
[907.58] NJ: their own preference for for one of those two but they're they're sort of same sort of power but
[911.98] AndyRC: yeah you're right yeah I just think maybe because like well you're a smooth flyer in general but
[917.9] AndyRC: for me they just feel a little bit more twitchy and uh making the the two three stator seems to
[924.3] AndyRC: just iron that out for me a little bit uh yeah here we go what slider FPV saying 2306 freestyle
[932.14] AndyRC: and 2207 2208 for racing I say that because you tend to find the higher the stator the uh the more
[940.3] AndyRC: sort of performance you get the more my instant punch that that's what I find personally but
[946.62] AndyRC: you get more voltage sag the higher the stator as well I find yeah I've found for me I've always
[954.38] NJ: found it's it's you have a bit more instant talk from a taller stator than lower the stator and
[959.58] NJ: widening it so they're they're achieving talk in different ways but the 2207 just works for my
[965.98] AndyRC: thumbs well you've got very steady so perhaps that's why you get the best of both worlds then
[972.7] Frank: yeah well on uh on Friday we had the uh AMA last AMA of the of the group Andy doing his AMA
[985.5] Frank: did you do one Andy I thought we've still got one we've all done one now okay cool I need to
[991.66] NJ: I haven't seen NJ's that's the only one I missed they're all in they're all in the discord maybe
[997.74] NJ: we should um repost all of them in the AMA channel one after the other so everyone has all of them
[1003.26] NJ: to go and look at FYI if you haven't already get in the discord that's it's nice and active
[1009.9] NJ: lots of tech support always gets answered in there and there's place to post your videos so
[1014.46] NJ: we can watch them etc come and join us in the discord what's it called there is a link down
[1020.62] Tony: there somewhere okay well done have you managed to get out yet Frank no floating indoors out out
[1030.46] Frank: off about me I've I've been I've been still working on this this bicopter thing it's still
[1037.26] Frank: kind of a bit of a let's have a look let's have a look it's um well I did
[1044.38] Frank: like frankly that oh so it's uh oh right okay so it's just thrust vectoring there's a little
[1059.44] Frank: thrust vectoring thing that I've adapted from David Vinderstahl's um tricopter servo tilt
[1068.64] Frank: but made it slightly smaller so it fits for the what is this
[1072.0] Frank: 1306 motors that I had lying around um and using some David Vinderstahl fancy shiny servos
[1084.8] NJ: so in theory if you if you get the thrust vectoring working well enough you could remove
[1091.6] NJ: the need for combining the ailerons and rudder elevator right you could just have them as ailerons
[1098.32] NJ: and have the rudder and have not the rudder the sorry the elevator operate from thrust
[1102.16] Frank: vectoring well what I want to do is completely remove these servos eventually once I've actually
[1110.4] Frank: made it work so the the plan at the moment is because I've got I've got an f765 a Maytec
[1120.48] Frank: wing board around here somewhere but uh I just got a bit bored of trying to make that work well
[1127.52] Frank: I mean I didn't try very long but I decided it was more fast than it was worth so I've I've just
[1135.68] Frank: got um a six channel radio for the moment just to because my my I'm not sure what it's gonna do
[1145.52] Frank: when you're flying along like whether it'll have any glide slope how controls would work
[1152.48] Frank: if it was just on the thrust vectoring like with the drag of the props still mean that you've got
[1159.28] Frank: control even if you've you're on essentially no thrust I don't know how that will work so
[1166.72] Frank: not if you take away the control surfaces well that's what I mean is that then the the actual
[1173.6] Frank: props themselves are going to be some drag so if you're moving them there you're still moving the
[1179.04] Curry: center yeah but they're right in the center aren't they and your your surfaces that need
[1183.6] Frank: normally control out there not there's a big chunk of drag isn't it not yes yes you're talking
[1191.76] NJ: about you're talking about the the moment but what you if you were to actually if you're going
[1197.28] NJ: to be able to as well as move them up and down together can you split them yeah yeah right so
[1201.6] NJ: in that case even though it is from quite far in it should still I think have enough talk to be able
[1208.72] NJ: to slowly yeah you could potentially fly that controller without control surface I mean as it
[1215.76] NJ: knows ailerons but the only thing I would say is you've got to have a minimum to negate that drag
[1221.68] NJ: thing is to have trying to have a minimum rpm that they run at so at least they're neutral
[1227.2] NJ: to to whatever they need to be neutral to whatever is just above the stall speed
[1233.12] NJ: uh and and then you should then that should work oh that's not really is it I need that's still
[1240.4] Frank: running them you have to finish this now I'll probably get some footage but yeah so this sounds
[1245.76] Frank: awesome my plan is to take it up a few mistakes high just on ailerons and just with motor staying
[1253.84] Frank: still because that's the other question is like I'm not convinced that these are going to have the
[1259.6] Frank: same rigidity of the nice RC Explorer injection molded ones I don't know if this is gonna have
[1269.2] Frank: if there's gonna be too much slop in this mechanism um so I'm interested to see whether even just
[1275.04] Frank: holding it level and so it's not thrust vectoring it's just normal thrust with two motors and just
[1281.68] Frank: flying it on the ailerons and the control surfaces whether that's just going to be jittering all over
[1287.04] Tony: the place because the motors are kind of not secured to me yeah my motor's not secured
[1302.72] NJ: I swear if you had a channel if you had a youtube channel and you just you'd be you'd be massive you
[1309.6] Tony: would doing stuff like this it's got like 20 subscribers you need to do any like I said last
[1316.56] Frank: week he doesn't like doing the end bit doesn't like the end bit this bit I started drawing it up
[1327.36] Frank: ages ago I've I've got this this conversation with David Bendersall about it where it's you
[1333.76] Frank: know messages from like months together like he's in in the time that I've been thinking about this
[1341.36] Frank: and thinking about putting it together he's shut his shop down like I bought these things
[1347.36] Frank: when they when he was still selling them and that shop no longer exists so and and he's having a
[1353.28] Jack: child and everything and yeah it's a whole new life he's made millions of meter right rings
[1359.84] Frank: by now he sent me the link to the files before those files were publicly available on the front
[1365.68] NJ: page of the website like they know but you know I feel I feel sad to think the rocket fist is
[1371.28] Jack: gathering dust somewhere and a rocket knife you really stole the show Frank he loved you more than
[1381.6] Jack: me now it's taken painless painless he's gone you've taken David everything oh dear
[1390.96] Jack: the one you've left me is with with Tony and Andy RC hey I've gone now
[1399.36] Frank: oh just telling your story about your wing that you were trying to fly oh I just I got the Cappy
[1405.76] Tony: rebuilt and um tried to fly again and so many things were going wrong with it it was annoying
[1412.16] Tony: me and Joker vision were not the fields uh a couple of days ago and we're flying it because
[1416.64] Tony: it was such a nice evening there was no wind or or anything decided to put a hero 7 in to see what
[1423.28] Tony: how good the stabilization is in a wing and it's bloody good but um yeah had so many things I had
[1429.92] Tony: to take out some weights from the front of the nose of the plane wing to offset the uh hero 7
[1438.48] Tony: because I used to run a four in it and it's quite a bit heavier than that and then yeah flying
[1444.0] Tony: around lovely and then emergency landing which I just about pulled off that stick landing yeah
[1452.24] Tony: and uh the motor mount the motor would come out and you know when it comes out and just spins on
[1458.32] Tony: the wire and just totally wrecked the wrecked it so I had um I had Danny come out from under the
[1466.08] Tony: seat um let him take it home and fix it so you know no no problems for you then
[1477.76] Tony: so hopefully it'll be working again when it's um we're going to test it again when it's not um
[1483.52] Tony: windy or rainy or cloudy like it's been the last couple of days I don't know when that's coming
[1488.32] Tony: when the summer's coming back is that it have we had it has it gone yeah that was summer I'm afraid
[1493.44] Frank: we went that out it's outside and then it rains I'm sorry I've got something flyable and the
[1499.6] NJ: weather's turned yeah I said summer was Wednesday last week apparently according to records well
[1506.08] Tony: that cappies long range one so I'm gonna hope to do it like a 20 minute it takes a 5000 it's
[1512.4] Tony: 5000 milliamp 2s 2100 kv we probably fly for 20 minutes hopefully is that a tv s swing wasn't
[1522.32] Tony: there a tv s swing number one that right yeah I've got the one they're quite nice aren't they
[1527.04] Tony: jack's got the second one aren't you jack show us is it that's a hand oh come on it can't go far
[1535.04] Tony: look how far look you're bobbed only there
[1541.68] Tony: that has got a point it's literally on the floor too he's right near the
[1546.88] Tony: wanks off the back oh dear i know why he's not getting stuck to the thing isn't it jack
[1562.64] NJ: jack's not answering anyone back today what's going on behind the comebacks
[1567.36] Jack: i think i can go get it but i'm not wearing any trousers
[1570.64] Tony: i am
[1589.36] Jack: so you can cut that editor if you want that
[1593.2] AndyRC: for that the start now we know the reason why jack can't get it we can move on he doesn't have
[1598.64] Frank: to get it i think this episode was recorded in front of a live online audience downloaded and
[1603.76] Frank: edited to make sense when it played audio only censored to please the itunes people hosted on
[1609.04] Frank: the internet forwarded through to your podcast provider downloaded playing on your device and
[1613.44] Frank: is now playing in your ears all thanks to our patreons consider joining them and you'll also
[1618.8] Frank: get other online benefits find out more at patreon.com forward slash let's drone out
[1625.12] Frank: thinking of other people that have been doing stuff on the youtube channels of building
[1629.84] Frank: weird things and should get a load more views uh lurgy in the chat put out a great video recently
[1637.92] Frank: of a biscuit squad
[1642.88] NJ: literally a biscuit that flew someone post someone post it in the chat i haven't seen it i want to
[1650.16] AndyRC: see that can we watch it now if lurgy gives you permission and he doesn't copyright
[1662.48] Frank: yeah that was a good video i just that was a though i did suggest he should have eaten
[1667.76] Curry: the cord at the end but he said it was pretty hard and he may have hurt his teeth
[1674.72] Frank: there was a definite biscuit it's quite impressive it was a biscuit
[1681.04] NJ: so um curry what have you been flying what have you been doing with yourself
[1686.48] Curry: i actually went outside into the zombie apocalypse to go to the field and fly some stuff
[1695.04] Curry: and i flew a bunch of stuff because i went out today i flew the sector 132
[1700.4] Curry: and i flew the green hornet which is a bit like flying a breeze block except
[1707.36] NJ: these books are more obvious is that a cine whip then yeah
[1712.88] Curry: right one four dryers i yeah so loud and then today i took out uh two hlc things i tested out
[1723.04] Curry: one of their vtx's and a gps to make sure that all worked nicely so i was happy and then i flew my
[1731.44] Curry: um uz 65 indoors and i fixed the problem with the camera angle this camera is now flat
[1738.88] Curry: which i did by rearranging the uh the vtx which is it's a really stupid design basically it's like
[1746.0] Curry: they they sort of designed the canopy and then they tried to fit the stuff in and said oh it
[1750.48] Curry: doesn't fit in very well let's just put it in angles that that way you can't hold the camera
[1754.32] Curry: but if you notice my vtx has now turned around the other way allowing me to put the camera down
[1759.76] Curry: so you can see basically your prop stuff so when you're going very very slowly you can see where
[1765.28] Curry: you're going sorry tony is this the one s um everyone's riving a bit at the moment this is the
[1770.4] Curry: one s um for me it was it was better for me than the mobula i did watch your video andy
[1778.96] Curry: although you did only fly outside well mostly outside and then you can
[1783.28] AndyRC: outside and inside i like to give it a because because i mean there are people that that are
[1788.72] AndyRC: just flying them in their houses but there are also people who are racing them you know taking
[1794.0] AndyRC: them to like in the indoor sports hall uh if if you would set up a race or something like that
[1800.64] AndyRC: and you're in acro mode and the thing just pitches out on you then that's no good so um i i really
[1808.56] AndyRC: liked it flying indoors flying around the house great and if you can fix the camera angle then
[1814.88] AndyRC: even better um but it lacks power if you want to do i would say uh like racing or i think if you
[1822.56] Curry: were racing i don't think you'd you'd go for a 19 000 kv one you'd always go for the 25 000
[1827.6] Curry: which puts you in the mobula or the the beat your fpv whatever it's called yeah they did one didn't
[1834.32] Curry: they yeah but yeah i really like this one because i like i just like the way it flew but yeah that
[1839.44] Curry: goes nice and slowly now in the house because previously as as you saying it kind of pulled it
[1843.84] Curry: upwards and it made it really a bit tricky when you're trying to get through stuff
[1847.12] Curry: because you're as you're stopping it was how much how much are like 75 quid something like that
[1856.48] Tony: to get any batteries or anything we can get four batteries four batteries and that'd be good to have
[1863.12] Tony: them when we go away somewhere and all all have one and all like you know set up a you know when
[1868.0] Tony: we do our thing where we go to wiles or saying and all the hell do you know hopefully yeah all
[1874.8] Tony: that we're allowed to have the same you know set up and stop racing so it's yeah so it's all on
[1881.52] NJ: the same level i'm just um i'm just watching that video i've left i didn't realize it was an actual
[1887.76] NJ: biscuit that he's put i've gotta ask if he's still got it can you fly can you finish it off by flying
[1895.92] Tony: it into a giant cup of tea you haven't watched the end of the video yet have you nj i'm almost
[1911.6] Jack: i'm almost at the end it's so good how do these patches the model don't understand
[1918.96] AndyRC: you have to watch the video play the video on it says we can he's putting the chat
[1927.12] NJ: that's so good i love it but he needs to fly into a big cup of tea
[1930.32] NJ: this has got to be a sequel maybe a shortbread shortbread copter yeah wayne i just thought
[1937.44] AndyRC: though it's just classic ishi and that vtx thing the smallest of things that they just don't think
[1943.84] Curry: about do they oh yeah it's such it's such i mean the how it was lying originally looks stupid
[1950.08] Curry: because it is literally if if you imagine your your control the base is like this and the flight
[1956.0] Curry: controller didn't fit so they put it this way and they shoved a bit of sticky under it and then
[1960.4] Curry: they put the camera there and of course then the camera can't lean normally and actually what i
[1966.32] Curry: said my video is if you bring the camera forwards there's a notch in the top of the canopy here so
[1972.56] Curry: you have to kind of force it past there so that they obviously didn't consider it at all they just
[1977.68] Curry: like put it in at that angle that's good nobody want to move it doesn't care that it was yeah
[1982.88] AndyRC: classic ishi really it's just my further problem with it is that it's a hundred milliwatt vtx so
[1990.56] AndyRC: it's um like four times the power of uh you know the 25 milliwatt but it's still using an spi
[1999.36] AndyRC: receiver so the 100 milliwatt vtx whilst is great bit wasted really you don't get the range
[2006.08] Curry: i think so but i was i i was keen for you to try and measure that with your thing because i didn't
[2010.88] Curry: think the 25 milliwatts was looking very good at all i thought that was putting out less of a signal
[2017.44] Curry: on the regular six oh you know on the ud 65 i thought i thought the 25 was a bit wimpy i
[2024.4] AndyRC: didn't think was putting that much out worse then so it might not even be putting out
[2029.2] Jack: uh 100 i think that 100 is probably like 50 50 you guys with a bit of the old you know
[2037.68] Jack: biscuit bass thing ready um how's the podcast gonna like this i know right we can talk over it
[2048.64] Tony: all right explain what's happening so the
[2051.68] Jack: so he looks like he's rolling up so he's like well done top of it and he's cutting around it
[2062.08] Jack: um yeah uh yeah so he's like cut it out he's now baking it don't know whether he's got some
[2069.92] Curry: strudels on the go it's hot gluing how long did you bake it for lurgy did you to make it extra
[2076.88] Jack: tough did you like bake it for much longer than normal a very long time
[2087.68] Jack: on a biscuit this is this is a whole new world to me oh a little mini camera as well he should have
[2094.72] Jack: ate it after and then sprinkles i think making it rain rain delicious sprinkles i don't know whether
[2104.64] Jack: we've got the copyright to this song is this no we don't yeah i think the annoying thing about
[2111.44] Curry: this is it flies better than a lot of quads i've built out of proper frame it's like this looks
[2117.52] AndyRC: pretty good actually if you look at the fpv footage it's doing all right interesting stuff
[2121.84] NJ: that's why you're not using that you're not using that old carbon stuff are you we've all moved on
[2127.04] Jack: from that we just glue the motors onto the potato that could have worked maybe yeah you did make a
[2133.92] Tony: potato fly so biscuits potatoes what else is what's next should we put a challenge out
[2145.2] Jack: oh no oh what an animal we won't spoil the end of that for our listeners
[2151.52] Tony: i just like to go and watch here
[2164.32] Frank: i was with you there i got it tiny i saw i saw mention in the chat the joker's got this
[2171.04] Frank: isheen mustang that looks pretty cool did you get to see that flying or did you get that i've
[2176.88] Tony: seen someone up our field fly because uh i was like oh that's good i might buy one then didn't
[2181.84] Tony: and then he did crusty stock flying yeah no literally did that i think you're 65 quid that
[2191.6] Tony: little mustang full full plane and it's about that big one s you'd love it frank
[2198.64] Tony: on summer evening on ldo no i think the uk have got them in stock with uk banggood
[2207.04] NJ: in the uk warehouse apparently it's to admit two day warehouse is it actually in the uk well
[2214.16] NJ: no probably not is it um i've just thought of another potential problem though for the biscuit
[2219.84] NJ: quad sorry i'm not going to leave this alone now i'm just just sorry if you thought dogs
[2226.48] NJ: like chasing your quad before that's really asking for trouble that would be good biscuit
[2235.52] AndyRC: quad biscuit only oh god i don't think animal rights activists might have some problems with that
[2248.24] Jack: there's the three hands away from the rabbit if you know what i mean
[2250.56] AndyRC: man tries to get get dog's face cut up by quadcopter by making it dog dog fishing instead of cat
[2261.28] Jack: fishing when you touch a line the quad fly out dog gets it actual fishing might be interesting
[2269.12] Tony: yeah dog fishing i want to make someone make a flip-flop fly that'd be good
[2275.12] NJ: flip-flop
[2282.64] NJ: tony's most beautiful alliteration yes flip-flop fly flip-flop fly
[2295.92] Jack: there's now a clip of me on twitch saying that i'm gay
[2300.16] AndyRC: mom
[2302.16] AndyRC: yeah in a shiny as well
[2306.08] AndyRC: and there's now one on youtube thanks to what you just said
[2311.6] Frank: um what i was trying to segue from tony to about the ichin mistang was that tony uh that andy's
[2320.32] Frank: been flying around a lot more uh fancy looking planes slightly higher higher grades than the
[2327.68] AndyRC: ichin mistang yeah the uh the flying club that i joined um has been open for a week
[2336.88] AndyRC: and we were allowed to go there and i uh yeah it's been great to just follow some of these planes
[2345.28] AndyRC: that uh they fly there but of course you know only been given a week it's been like eight weeks
[2351.44] AndyRC: of pure sunshine wasn't able to fly whatsoever and then one week but yeah no it's been great
[2357.04] AndyRC: yeah a bit really uh wants an edf so badly uh yeah and i got to fly around the edf um lots of
[2366.72] AndyRC: different planes but it was fun practicing getting close to planes i did have a collision though
[2373.44] AndyRC: unfortunately nice sorry oh what happens what happens okay so uh my friend phil had a i think
[2381.92] AndyRC: it's called a multiplex fun cub it's quite an old plane i think from about 2012 um and he he
[2390.16] AndyRC: stuck it in a knife edge because i told him to and well well first of all he was seeing if it
[2397.44] AndyRC: did knife edge and it did but of course with it being a cub and it's got a dihedral on it
[2402.4] AndyRC: you stick it in a knife edge and it slowly like moves like in a positive pitch when it's in a
[2408.56] AndyRC: knife edge so of course as i am flying alongside him getting a great shot this thing's moving
[2414.72] AndyRC: closer towards me and i just punched out it was too late but when i when i slowed it down it's got
[2420.72] AndyRC: a star on the on the wing and i went bang straight into the star and i hit managed to hit it twice
[2427.52] AndyRC: somehow i don't know how that that happened um yeah i got a little bit too close so when it came
[2432.48] AndyRC: to the edf tried to stay further away but actually got a great shot because the edf's got um
[2439.68] AndyRC: three tracks on it and uh i said to my friend just tilt it to the side and put the gear down
[2446.64] AndyRC: and it that that shot looks uh fantastic but i haven't i haven't put it anywhere yeah it's
[2452.32] AndyRC: done i thought i will but uh i have to see yeah i think it's a quite a quite a cool series of
[2458.72] AndyRC: videos that oh yeah well yeah apart it was i wasn't really going to do anything with it but
[2465.12] AndyRC: then i was like when when you put some relaxing music to it was actually quite nice and uh
[2470.96] AndyRC: yeah so i put put a couple of the videos up but not everything that i have been followed because
[2478.08] AndyRC: uh yeah don't want too much of the same sort of thing i'm sorry i'm sorry this is just the
[2485.68] NJ: chats the chat is just having me in stitches at the minute they're just constantly talking about
[2491.84] NJ: the subject of the biscuit quad is going next level in the chat this is i love it when they
[2496.96] Jack: just like talk amongst themselves it's quite good i like the idea of the wank sock quad
[2502.72] Curry: or the crusty sock as though they yeah they're politically directly calling it i might i might
[2507.44] Curry: have a crack at that you know how i've been trying to repair the the big sky hook from sheets
[2519.2] Curry: of carbon fiber and um that glue which went out of it uh basically i yeah the resin stuff
[2529.52] Jack: you who pour are you talking about i'll say what's that called again new blocks in it or something
[2534.88] Jack: oobleks or something when you do that new it was a non-utanium fluid ooblek no oh there's another
[2545.28] Jack: name for it what are you talking about it like when you add resin to something and it becomes
[2551.04] Curry: a solid object i don't know and there's some sort of resin and some sort of hard look compound that
[2557.12] Curry: you mix together you can paint it on this carbon fiber sheet stuff and thus um yeah this is the
[2571.6] Curry: massive one that yes look in here where you see this is carbon fiber now that is solid it's still
[2582.72] Curry: looking absolutely horrendous you see the big hole here but you now can't shift it because of
[2587.52] Curry: that resin and this carbon fiber sheeting inside that i applied very badly um it's as hard as rock
[2595.52] Curry: so if you apply the same thing to socks what you're planning on making next is
[2604.56] Frank: cotton fiber reinforced plastic if you like reinforced plastic yeah we could do that
[2612.4] Curry: and then basically we end up with the most rigid set of four socks ever which you can just like
[2618.4] Frank: stick motors on and stuff i think jack so that you can have socks and sandals yeah socks and sandals
[2628.4] Tony: flying why is online escape tips quad why it's not that he's gonna have to be a thing but could be
[2638.0] Frank: a thing but i'd quite like uh sort of going back to where we were i'd quite like to see
[2647.04] Frank: like more of the flying around scale stuff i'd like to have that
[2651.52] Frank: at like mini air show like not just for the yeah i mean can you imagine
[2658.64] AndyRC: any RC show like a live feed from a quad chasing so you know on a big screen or something like that
[2665.36] AndyRC: i could especially like DJI kind of level would be really nice you would have to crack the code
[2672.0] AndyRC: before uh you were able to do or pay them a lot of money probably until you do that uh or buy that
[2680.88] AndyRC: transmitter what's it called i think it sticks a logo on it you know as when you do it through
[2686.48] AndyRC: the transmit i think it um yeah what's it what's that that transmitter calls again the transmitter
[2693.52] Tony: fly yeah yeah you could do that yeah hold the quad yeah exactly do that i think another interesting
[2708.4] Curry: project for you is somebody um instead of instead of making something fly have a manual
[2714.64] Curry: quad so forget the idea of a flight controller just have four controls and be able to move each one
[2721.84] Curry: and see if you can get into a hover jeez just four throttles just use your feet use your hands
[2729.44] Frank: oh four actually fine it's kind of super rates but constantly but
[2735.44] Frank: yeah it's entertaining i feel like it would need to be something
[2741.92] Frank: to to have it slow enough that you can actually respond quick enough to have it hover i feel like
[2746.64] Frank: it's got to be quite big yes because that makes it less dangerous doesn't it
[2751.92] Frank: doesn't it
[2758.69] Frank: yeah possibilities all these exciting possibilities
[2765.89] Frank: like helium balloon with a suspended quad underneath so and it's a bit slower
[2774.05] Curry: that is an excellent segue if you like about world record speed planes suspending things
[2780.85] Frank: underneath other things yes talking of things is better underneath other things
[2790.69] Curry: let's let's talk about um ruput white or rups otherwise known as
[2797.73] Curry: only googly bird i think something like that is his youtube handle um you you guys will probably
[2805.81] Curry: know his stuff if anybody's followed any of the fpv speed records um rups has been sort of breaking
[2812.29] Curry: it almost sort of singularly for for years and he was flying sort of 230 plus mile an hour
[2820.69] Curry: on six s fun jets he's had a turbine version in the works for a long time not actually the first
[2828.05] Curry: person to put a turbine on a fun jet i hasten to add um but he basically got his maiden flight
[2834.85] Curry: and if you've ever seen roots launch a plane before it is something to behold because the
[2840.21] Curry: amount of torque that generates from a tiny prop on a fun jet spinning at a gazillion rpm basically
[2848.29] Curry: he froze it it spins about six seven times and he just looks at it and works out how to do it he is
[2856.29] Curry: an amazing line of sight fly i don't find line of sight flying exciting but watching him fly what
[2862.05] Curry: is a dot at 200 miles an hour coming down straight in front of you is is something amazing
[2867.81] Curry: i'm quite a i'm quite a real fan anyway what he had to do to launch this thing because you don't
[2873.09] Curry: just hand launch a turbine because that's a way of getting because it was money and money so he
[2880.85] Curry: built a quite a large quad to to basically take it up and then dropped obviously started his turbine
[2888.53] Curry: up and then dropped his fun jet and then pulled out of it and then did his flight so on his maiden
[2893.89] Curry: flight he reached 502 kilometers an hour um which is just over 300 miles an hour in an fpv flight
[2901.65] Curry: so that is now the new record can we get a link for that yeah yeah let me get the link because
[2908.69] AndyRC: it's a really good video it's worth watching because i when you mentioned it i typed it and
[2914.29] AndyRC: nothing came up but i imagine with a name with a username like that i didn't have much chance
[2919.81] Curry: of finding groups doesn't he's another one of these people that just does not get enough views
[2925.17] Curry: on his stuff because the stuff he does is always amazing he was at uh funny story actually he was
[2930.85] Curry: at mini ash show four was it and um you know i was writing that article for which magazine was it
[2940.61] Curry: rcm and something yeah so i wrote an article about and it had the tagline of uh sympathy
[2950.77] Curry: sympathy for the devil which i didn't do and they asked me to talk to sort of established
[2957.81] Curry: flying people to find out if they were upset about quads and the funniest thing about is when i
[2962.93] Curry: talked to that guy who was head of the spitfire club i said were you concerned at all about any
[2967.49] Curry: of the safety elements he says the quads were fine it was just that guy with the insane planes
[2973.81] Curry: because if you've heard these things um they are amazing 6s on a tiny prop is ridiculous he also
[2980.69] Curry: has a 6s vampire edf and that sounds like a turbine because it spins at such a rate um it's
[2987.57] Curry: really worth a watch everyone should watch that one so he's gonna obviously continue to fly that
[2992.45] Curry: and we'll see what what else he gets from it if you watch any often he has to use like a tracker
[2997.57] Curry: when he's doing these speed records because you run out of field really quickly when you're doing
[3001.25] Frank: 300 miles an hour it's like yeah that's cool but he's luckily found a friendly farmer with a bigger
[3010.37] Curry: field yes that was jammy i think he went with the basics of he didn't say hi i'd like to try and get
[3018.69] Curry: a world record on an insane turbine jet he was just like hello i fly model planes and i was just
[3026.53] Curry: like she's your field it's quite small
[3034.05] Jack: oh my god that speed just climbs it's crazy isn't it
[3044.05] AndyRC: flying line of sight or or fpv when he he was actually flying fpv he was flying there
[3050.85] AndyRC: his problem was that it was running out of yeah you instantly run out of range
[3055.73] AndyRC: like so sick you've got a pin coming by from standing you would have to have um some
[3063.73] NJ: you'd have to have some pretty serious rates on a switch when you're doing 300
[3068.45] NJ: you'd need to reduce your rates to like 10 of the standard throw yeah you just have
[3076.13] Curry: the purposes of them they just destroyed this is amazing that the amount he spends on servos
[3081.49] Curry: because if you realize you want to move it tiny amounts really accurately but the amount of
[3087.49] Curry: pressure you've got against those wing surfaces when you're just doing that it's just tiny so
[3092.77] Curry: that it's big money build and anybody who's had to buy a turbine before also knows that's
[3098.77] NJ: that's serious money as well with um i just know a bit of this from some of the uh dlgs i've got
[3105.33] NJ: it's also about having the resolution down at those very very fine movements because reducing
[3111.17] NJ: the rates on a servo is one thing but then if you've if if you're going to like a few percent
[3117.57] NJ: of what is a servo that's doing so many numbers of steps when you actually get down here the
[3123.01] NJ: resolution for the new movement might be enough degrees that it's you know really janky to fly
[3130.29] NJ: so i can only imagine this just the servos the that he used were probably crazy expensive oh yeah
[3138.05] NJ: looks like a whole rig looks like a dragon link as well
[3143.41] Curry: yeah i think he's dragging he's strangling in 2.4 i think but yeah previous ones when he's done
[3148.37] Curry: any distance he's used antenna tracking because it it shifts at such a rate that um it it gets far
[3156.05] AndyRC: away very fine that dji thing at 124 mile per hour i mean that was just insane i mean that was
[3165.17] AndyRC: moving across some fields quick wasn't it that's 55 meters per second if you can think about it so
[3172.13] AndyRC: you know how far 100 meters is that's 50 so what i did an hour what's that in miles an hour oh
[3181.33] AndyRC: well i did 124 yeah but um and i covered like two fields in the space of like two seconds you know
[3188.93] AndyRC: so i can't imagine what that kind of speed it must have been so scary little random mad fact
[3195.81] Jack: that i read the other day you know like lockdown everything's been very quiet and like the roads
[3202.05] Jack: have been very quiet uh would you like to have have a guess at the speed the top speed that
[3209.89] Jack: people have gotten up to and have gotten caught i think 201 someone went past to my from peace
[3217.09] Tony: footage from gatwick to peace footage at the time of one mile an hour that's that's a no during
[3224.45] Jack: lockdown no i'm against during lockdown beach it's gotta be a super car probably 250 i'd say
[3232.96] Jack: no you guys are going too crazy it was uh the person got 151 miles an hour is that it
[3239.52] Jack: got caught yeah i mean wow i think it was
[3247.68] AndyRC: it's like yeah i've never done that kind of speed of you andy i've never never even gone over 204
[3254.96] Frank: mile per hour where's like disclaimer again uh it always has to be when andy speaks doesn't it
[3265.36] Frank: andy when are you going to get your dji air unit on a fixed wing and preferably meet up with painless
[3274.96] Frank: and like go following each other's wings around some hills yeah because he's got his on his mini
[3280.88] AndyRC: drag now hasn't he more tips more likely to uh see painless do it i just don't have the
[3288.72] AndyRC: space to keep planes i wish i did um but uh i i don't so uh yeah i'm looking forward uh to uh to
[3297.68] AndyRC: outside locker in your car under your car money for that which i used to have um
[3305.36] Curry: but next time lee tells you he wants to give you a plane accept it but insist it stays in this
[3310.48] AndyRC: garage i keep it in your garage please i think the reason he's passing them on to me is to get
[3316.72] AndyRC: them out of there not to keep them is it just a one-day thing you just get one yeah i want to i
[3324.8] AndyRC: yeah i i'd love to do it on like an edf something quick something like that yeah so you have an edf
