=====================================

[0.0] Jack: Hello and welcome to Let's Drone Out. The best, well the only UK FPV podcast
[6.8] Jack: sponsored by the lovely people from our Patreon. Patreon.com forward slash Let's Drone Out.
[12.88] Jack: In particular we'd like to thank these guys. Art Faulkner. Mikey Dredd. Wacky Wes. David Powell.
[24.24] Jack: Thank you guys. You're the best. We can edit our podcast. Thank you.
[30.56] Frank: Good evening and welcome to Let's Drone Out. Episode 251. This week there are only four of us.
[68.29] Frank: There is me. There is Curry. Hello. There is Turdie. Bonjour. And there is Jack.
[79.81] Frank: Because NJ has abandoned us because he's got more important things to do. And Andy has been on a
[87.89] Frank: editing streak for the past 40 hours and is no longer functioning. But Bill, be sure to see some
[96.61] Frank: more videos in his feed I'm sure at some point soon. I think Tony's got some videos queued up
[105.01] Tony: to go out as well, right? I'm sponsored by Magic Rock today. Not ready Eddie this time.
[111.97] Curry: The best drink. Despite our very best efforts of bigging out ready Eddie
[119.17] Curry: towards best battery, we did not receive any ready Eddie batteries in any state before.
[125.49] Curry: Nor any emails from ready Eddie. Nothing. Oh well. Yeah, I've been sitting on a video for
[135.81] Tony: it's probably near on a year now. So I'm probably going to upload it Sunday evening.
[141.41] Tony: When everyone's at home. It's not this stuff I've done before. You can tell. I've uploaded a teaser
[150.93] Tony: video this afternoon. But I've been editing all day because it's been waning. So no flying
[159.73] Jack: because it's been whining. And that is a pain like that. Sorry wine. Almost safe to talk.
[170.24] Jack: Hello, how are you? Oh, he's here. Yes, I am here. The guys talking about my socks and the chat,
[179.44] Jack: which is always good. Did any of you guys watch the drone his life stream? I flicks on for a bit
[188.64] Tony: and then I had to do stuff. So I didn't watch all the apparently someone special come on off as
[195.84] Jack: well as Mr. Seal. Yeah, I've heard rumors of sharpness. Yes, literally had God on the show.
[205.92] Curry: I know we get our hosts to show up.
[211.36] Jack: Like the last time I heard off him was when we said he was God and I emailed it to him and
[217.84] Jack: he messaged he emailed me back. And that was that was a while ago. But I don't know, man, I could
[225.52] Jack: never he's not the last the last person, you know, like was there was on my old hit list.
[234.56] Jack: We got someone very important. And we're going to talk about some drone stuff. Apparently,
[239.76] Jack: I wouldn't say important. Good evening, guys. How you doing?
[242.96] Jack: I'd like to point out what he made me do.
[248.56] Tony: I don't think he made you do. I thought you were balls and was going insane.
[253.04] Jack: He's whipping me. He was like, yeah, shot color. That looks nice, Jack. What is it?
[260.88] Jack: Look at all sordery bullies. Is that that do anything for you, Tony? I know those red nuts.
[268.4] Jack: It's such your nipples.
[275.28] Lee: Which is true.
[277.04] Lee: There was no Catholic prods involved. I just Jack was on the chat and he was saying half
[282.24] Lee: make building something. So I said, oh, you got a spare five inch frame. And I said, yeah,
[289.6] Lee: I have. And I've got so sent in the stuff. And bless him. He's been sending me pictures.
[294.88] Lee: I'm built of quadrages. I'm kind of living vicariously through his videos and images.
[299.92] Lee: So thank you, Jack, for building that. So it seems to be going all right, don't it?
[304.08] Jack: Yeah, I've really missed it. I just wish I had all the parts.
[309.2] Jack: I need to have a bit of a dig around. But yeah, it was it was nice to put something together and
[315.36] Jack: fiddle around with it and get the multimeter out and try not to blow it up.
[320.8] Tony: It was just it was probably just nice you talking to your ex-mate again.
[326.16] Jack: I know. Yeah. Now, but I'm trying to prove that I'm useful.
[331.36] Jack: John winning back. Yeah, but obviously no one's as useful as Frank. Frank just has to flick his
[338.32] Jack: air about the place a bit and it's all I know. Running up a hip mountain, dipping it in a
[345.28] Jack: waterfall. So yeah, it was really good fun. I mean, I should have done a little stream.
[355.28] Jack: The thing is doing that is it takes it takes so much longer. It takes like three times as
[362.48] Jack: long to do anything. And like whenever I seem to do them, I always like run into problems.
[368.24] Jack: So I do feel a bit jinxed by them.
[370.96] Lee: The problems aren't a bad thing, though, are they, Jack? Because the thing is, if you bump into them
[376.8] Lee: and you and you kind of explain how to fix it, you know, there's hundreds of other guys and girls
[381.2] Lee: in exactly the same boat are going to hit it. Yeah. But now it's I must admit, it's been it's been
[387.28] Lee: a fun one. I'm just looking at everyone's hair on the stream, just seeing how everyone's coping
[391.68] Lee: with lockdown. Obviously, Frank, you've just kind of just you've just gone full hair for it.
[397.92] Lee: Yeah, you're as a me. I know. I haven't seen you with really long hair like that before.
[404.0] Lee: That's impressive. So what's that about three months? Yeah.
[412.06] Frank: Looking good. It was I was literally going to get my hair cut as lockdown started.
[420.3] Frank: That was when I was going to go. So
[422.7] Lee: fantastic. You're looking very, very
[432.06] Curry: it's like the reverse come over instead of trying to get a bald person to bring all their hair
[435.66] Curry: forward or my hair is sort of pushed back. It's it's really long, actually. My wife keeps offering
[440.3] Curry: to cut it. And I say no, because I don't want my hair cut like that. So I just wait out. It is
[448.7] Curry: I know your lovely wife's been cutting your hair for you. And it looks the same. So she's obviously
[452.38] Lee: doing a good job there. I must admit that the first time she did it, she took like the very
[457.1] Lee: smallest amount off. And she was being very careful. And then then about the fourth time
[462.86] Lee: she did it, she just was like, I'm going for it. And I did say, well, if it goes really bad,
[467.66] Lee: I'll just do a number two for the whole thing and just wear a hat for the videos. It'll be fine.
[472.06] Lee: But actually, yes, I could save a fortune when this is all over.
[475.98] Lee: How are you doing, Tony? You're looking good, brother. Thank you.
[479.1] Tony: Good. Thank you very much. I obviously cut my own hair.
[485.66] Tony: It's been this short since I was 21.
[489.26] Jack: Do you fancy flying this when I'm done?
[492.46] Jack: Me? Yeah, I have a go.
[493.58] Jack: Yeah. You know, like when we were friends and we used to like hang out and do stuff.
[497.98] Jack: That was a long time ago.
[499.98] Jack: Yeah, I know. I'm thinking about it.
[502.14] Tony: You've lost quite a lot of friends lately.
[504.54] Curry: What's the missing jacket? It looks fairly complete from where I'm sitting,
[507.58] Curry: but I can't see the whole back.
[509.98] Curry: BTX.
[511.26] Jack: Yeah, Tony's on it.
[513.9] Jack: What do you mean, lost a lot of friends?
[516.22] Frank: Time to get your line of sight skills up, then.
[519.82] Frank: Yeah.
[526.62] Lee: Your views hasn't washed everyone away.
[529.82] Lee: I know.
[530.3] Tony: I definitely can't fly it, will you?
[531.9] Tony: Right, we can put the new beaterfly at 4.20 on, which I've heard.
[535.9] Tony: I'm hearing some good stuff about it at the moment.
[538.54] Jack: It looks very, very mad.
[540.38] Jack: It had 4.1 on there.
[543.34] Jack: So it was pretty up to date.
[545.26] Jack: And Type C connector.
[549.1] Tony: Zero just donated.
[550.7] Tony: Thank you very much, Zero.
[551.82] Tony: Someone light something.
[554.22] Tony: Please.
[554.94] Tony: Jack, can you light something?
[557.82] Tony: Sorry to interrupt everyone.
[559.26] Tony: We have to do this every time someone donates.
[561.34] Tony: It's very kind of you.
[562.3] Tony: Thank you, Zero.
[563.18] Tony: You get a shout out.
[564.14] Tony: Cheers, bro.
[568.7] Lee: It is going to go horribly wrong one day.
[570.7] Frank: I was going to say,
[571.58] Frank: you're literally going to hatch fire, isn't he?
[573.58] Lee: Yeah.
[573.98] Frank: A haircut with fire.
[580.94] Lee: Jack's desperately trying to come up with new things to do.
[583.82] Tony: If you're listening to the podcast, Jack is at the moment licking a firework
[590.54] Tony: and has burned his tongue.
[595.1] Jack: Thank you.
[595.66] Jack: That was really hot.
[596.7] Jack: I burnt the end of my tongue.
[599.34] Lee: Well, you had just licked a live firework, Jack.
[602.06] Lee: You can't tell me that was a surprise.
[604.54] Jack: No, it was a little bit.
[608.86] Jack: Oh, sorry, carry on.
[610.22] Lee: Sorry, I was just going to say,
[610.94] Lee: speaking of surprises, Andrew slash Frank,
[613.82] Lee: I believe, well, it was your birthday at the weekend.
[616.38] Lee: So again, happy belated birthday wishes for that brother.
[619.74] Tony: I'll do 23, 24.
[624.38] Frank: It's the last year of my 20s.
[629.9] Lee: Don't worry about that.
[630.86] Lee: You know what?
[631.42] Lee: The 30s and 40s are actually fab as well, brother.
[633.82] Lee: Don't let anyone feel yet.
[635.5] Lee: I've got to say that I've been told.
[637.74] Lee: But I believe you tried to go out flying
[640.14] Lee: and it didn't quite work out for you.
[641.9] Lee: You went for a kind of a birthday fly.
[643.42] Lee: What was all that about?
[645.26] Frank: Yeah, so on Monday, I took a day off.
[648.38] Frank: And went to my local flying field,
[652.46] Frank: which is only two and a half hours walk away.
[657.02] Lee: Okay, so a quick round the corner.
[660.62] Frank: Yeah, exactly.
[662.62] Frank: So I dusted everything with four hands.
[668.94] Frank: And everything was working fine.
[671.66] Frank: And then got to the field.
[673.1] Frank: And this was the I was trying it last week.
[675.9] Frank: The bicopter wing combination thing
[679.82] Frank: with thrust spectring on the twin motors on the back wing.
[683.82] Lee: Yeah, that was really good.
[685.1] Frank: And the plan was to just fly out as a wing
[690.14] Frank: using the elevons to get up to a good few mistakes high.
[695.98] Frank: Switch over to thrust spectring
[698.22] Frank: and see how it kind of reacted
[700.62] Frank: and make sure that whole system actually worked
[703.58] Frank: before kind of setting up a flight controller
[708.14] Frank: or doing anything else with it.
[709.66] Frank: Just make sure, does it actually have any control
[714.94] Frank: in all the axes?
[716.46] Frank: Is it relatively stable?
[717.66] Frank: Is there too much slop in the system?
[720.94] Frank: Does it just wobble about
[722.54] Frank: and give it loads of problems
[724.78] Frank: just from the mechanism or that kind of stuff?
[729.9] Frank: Can it land without smashing itself to pieces?
[732.3] Frank: All those kinds of things.
[734.38] Frank: Just kind of minimum level of just the receiver.
[738.94] Frank: Send it up as a wing, fly it, done.
[742.3] Frank: Got there, plugged in the battery, set it all up.
[746.14] Frank: Got it going.
[752.86] Lee: The battery police are about to kick some of these doors out.
[755.98] Frank: Yeah, got a Fraser to chuck it off
[763.66] Frank: so that we're a bit dubious about how much,
[769.02] Frank: how well this is going to fly
[770.62] Frank: because it is quite heavy.
[773.34] Frank: So I'll just keep both hands on the sticks
[776.22] Frank: just because we don't know what they're going to do.
[778.54] Frank: Got Fraser to give it a chuck,
[781.1] Frank: but it just spiraled out.
[784.14] Frank: Oh, that's a bit weird.
[786.46] Frank: I'll try that again.
[788.54] Frank: This spiral is the same way.
[789.9] Frank: Oh, it's weird.
[790.86] Frank: And then I put it down
[795.1] Frank: and just full throttled it
[797.1] Frank: and didn't touch anything else.
[799.5] Frank: And then the left-hand motor died
[801.9] Frank: after fractions of a minute.
[806.14] Lee: That was the video you sent me, wasn't it?
[807.82] Lee: It was indeed.
[809.26] Lee: Yeah, okay.
[810.14] Lee: So what's happening with that motor?
[811.34] Lee: Is it just de-syncing or is it BSC?
[815.98] Frank: I haven't quite got to the bottom of it yet,
[818.46] Frank: but I do have another two of those ESEs
[821.02] Frank: and another two of those motors
[822.62] Frank: because I was ripping it off an old quad.
[824.62] Frank: So I got four of each.
[827.42] Frank: So I will be able to work it out at some point.
[829.74] Frank: But for now, it's still sat on the ground
[833.98] Frank: where I dumped it on Monday evening.
[838.46] Lee: Can we have a regular weekly update
[840.62] Lee: on how that builds going, mate?
[842.3] Lee: Because I'm actually really interested in that
[844.22] Lee: because you're doing something really wacky,
[847.18] Lee: which I love the idea of.
[850.22] Frank: I mean, weekly might be pushing it.
[851.9] Frank: I mean, considering that I started,
[854.38] Frank: I've got this,
[855.98] Frank: because I was talking to David Vinstahl about it
[859.34] Frank: when I first was thinking about it
[860.94] Frank: because I know, you know, he's got the...
[863.18] Frank: Another friend he nicked!
[865.1] Tony: ...mycopter.
[865.98] Frank: Mycopter.
[869.74] Frank: He actually gave me the files
[872.46] Frank: for his tilt mechanism
[876.46] Frank: back before he'd opened up
[878.38] Frank: all the files on his website
[879.5] Frank: so before he shut his shop down.
[880.7] Frank: So that's kind of how long
[882.78] Frank: this has been simmering away for.
[887.74] Frank: Is when Ask the Explorer was still going.
[891.34] Tony: It's full of world-wet mental.
[894.3] Frank: Yeah, I'll far be on then.
[897.74] Frank: So yeah, I'll probably get around
[901.42] Frank: to having another look at it this weekend
[903.1] Frank: and pulling all the heat shrink off
[905.26] Frank: and actually seeing what's going on.
[907.74] Frank: I suspect because it was on the ET160
[911.34] Frank: so the motor wires are really short.
[914.38] Frank: So there's these kind of solder joints
[918.22] Frank: where I've extended the wires
[920.38] Frank: that are where the tilt mechanism
[923.1] Frank: is moving the motor.
[924.94] Frank: I suspect that probably
[927.42] Frank: over the course of either
[928.54] Frank: just in the testing
[929.66] Frank: and wheeling them back and forth
[931.58] Frank: or as I was walking with it
[935.1] Frank: and having it on my backpack,
[936.7] Frank: I suspect it's probably fatigue cracks.
[940.14] Lee: What would one or more...
[943.18] Lee: The way it's stopping
[943.98] Lee: doesn't look like one
[944.94] Lee: because all of the people
[946.94] Lee: listening to the podcast
[947.82] Lee: will know that if you have one
[949.18] Lee: of the three phases of a motor
[950.7] Lee: give up, you tend to just get
[952.3] Lee: stuttering.
[953.58] Lee: The motor's just stopping cold,
[955.58] Lee: isn't it?
[956.06] Lee: It's definitely worthwhile checking.
[958.7] Lee: I'm just fascinated to see you fly this thing
[961.58] Lee: because I would love to build one
[963.66] Lee: once you've figured it all out.
[965.9] Frank: Yeah, oh, absolutely.
[970.38] Frank: I also showed you recently
[972.7] Frank: some screenshots or pictures of...
[975.5] Frank: I was scanning the nose
[977.58] Frank: of the mini AR wing
[979.5] Frank: because I was twiddling my thumbs
[982.94] Frank: in the office
[983.66] Frank: and we've got some 3D scanning equipment
[985.5] Frank: and I had to go just...
[988.94] Frank: There's a thing that I might want
[990.78] Frank: at some point.
[993.5] Frank: I've stuck up on Thingiverse
[995.58] Frank: so you can go Thingiverse,
[997.5] Frank: Frank's Roodle
[998.62] Frank: or just probably search
[999.9] Frank: mini AR wing nose.
[1001.82] Frank: I've put up...
[1003.74] Frank: I haven't spent time tidying it up
[1007.18] Frank: but I just kind of put the scan up
[1009.18] Frank: and a couple are very quick.
[1011.58] Frank: Clicking a couple of buttons,
[1012.86] Frank: what can I do with this
[1013.82] Frank: to make this something
[1014.62] Frank: that I might want to print?
[1016.7] Frank: So if anyone wanted to play around
[1021.1] Frank: with a scan of the nose
[1024.22] Frank: of the mini AR wing,
[1026.14] Frank: then that should be up
[1027.42] Frank: on Thingiverse somewhere.
[1028.06] Frank: We've got Jack's face still on there.
[1031.42] Frank: I haven't put Jack's face
[1032.86] Frank: up on Thingiverse, no.
[1037.26] Frank: He may have heard of me.
[1038.7] Curry: We want a new scan of Jack's head
[1040.46] Curry: so it looks more like Jack
[1041.58] Curry: so I could abuse it in my game.
[1046.14] Lee: Got some good questions
[1047.34] Lee: on the comments actually.
[1049.5] Lee: One was from MrShady saying
[1053.34] Lee: the battle system that was used
[1056.46] Lee: in the Channel 4
[1058.3] Lee: Battle of Britain stuff.
[1059.26] Lee: Was that ever released?
[1060.3] Lee: Did you ever hear anything
[1061.42] Lee: more about that, Frank?
[1063.1] Frank: So there is a guy...
[1066.7] Frank: somewhere who has released
[1069.66] Frank: the FPV combat system.
[1073.42] Frank: It's been a long while
[1074.38] Frank: since I heard anything about it,
[1075.58] Frank: but at least there have been
[1077.18] Frank: some pre-production ones
[1079.26] Frank: made and sold.
[1083.18] Lee: So for those of you
[1083.98] Lee: that don't know,
[1084.62] Lee: is it worthwhile talking
[1085.58] Lee: about what it is actually
[1087.18] Lee: in case, no, because not
[1089.74] Lee: a lot of people saw
[1090.54] Lee: the Battle of Britain stuff, I think.
[1093.18] Frank: Hmm, so it's a little kind
[1096.38] Frank: of OSD board with a signal input,
[1103.98] Frank: so a PWM input,
[1105.9] Frank: and a couple of infrared LEDs
[1111.34] Frank: and infrared receivers.
[1115.1] Frank: And so you fly around,
[1117.58] Frank: you've got some cross tears
[1118.78] Frank: in your FPV feed
[1120.3] Frank: and then you find someone else
[1123.02] Frank: that's flying with another one
[1123.98] Frank: of these systems
[1124.94] Frank: and then you hit your trigger
[1126.38] Frank: on your radio,
[1127.34] Frank: that's the PWM signal
[1128.62] Frank: that goes into it.
[1129.42] Frank: It starts flashing out
[1130.54] Frank: your code over the infrared LEDs
[1133.82] Frank: and the person who's in
[1135.5] Frank: your cross hairs,
[1136.86] Frank: their infrared receivers
[1138.78] Frank: pick up that code
[1139.9] Frank: and then go,
[1140.7] Frank: ah, I've been hit.
[1142.14] Frank: And then you lose life
[1143.74] Frank: and eventually when you lose
[1148.7] Frank: all your health points,
[1149.74] Frank: then you end up with some issues
[1153.1] Frank: of either it does something
[1154.78] Frank: to your throttle
[1156.22] Frank: or something else as well
[1157.1] Frank: that you can do.
[1159.5] Lee: But yeah, so that is...
[1161.26] Lee: We had this stuff rigged up
[1163.1] Lee: for that thing.
[1163.82] Lee: I mean, you were doing it
[1164.78] Lee: with smoke bombs underneath.
[1166.94] Lee: It's basically an infrared gun system
[1169.02] Lee: for air-to-air combat
[1170.46] Lee: is what it is,
[1171.1] Lee: and it's kind of a little
[1171.82] Lee: self-contained thing.
[1172.94] Lee: But Frank was lashing up
[1175.42] Lee: in the middle of fields,
[1177.66] Lee: kind of stripping wire
[1178.54] Lee: with his teeth.
[1180.22] Lee: I kid you not putting smoke bombs
[1182.7] Lee: underneath planes
[1183.5] Lee: and when the plane was hit,
[1185.18] Lee: the smoke bomb would go off.
[1186.46] Lee: And it looked amazing.
[1187.66] Lee: It was absolutely fantastic.
[1189.18] Lee: But it's just that was two years ago.
[1190.86] Lee: And I'm surprised that it hasn't
[1192.94] Lee: come out as a thing
[1195.58] Lee: because I was actually flying
[1198.62] Lee: Monday this week.
[1199.58] Lee: I was doing some chase footage
[1200.94] Lee: with my friend.
[1202.62] Lee: And again, it was one of those situations
[1204.46] Lee: where I would love for us to have,
[1206.54] Lee: you know, to be able to actually
[1207.66] Lee: do virtual dog fighting like this
[1209.42] Lee: with real RC, well, wings, as it was.
[1212.62] Lee: So I'm just a bit gutted
[1213.82] Lee: that you still can't buy it.
[1214.86] Lee: So who knows?
[1216.94] Frank: I've just posted a link
[1219.02] Frank: to another YouTube channel
[1222.62] Frank: of the guys who are actually
[1223.9] Frank: building this PCB.
[1226.86] Tony: Have you flown the new
[1230.14] Tony: Beta Flight 420 at 4.20,
[1232.7] Tony: whatever it is?
[1233.98] Lee: No, not yet. I'm planning to.
[1235.58] Lee: It looks really good.
[1237.02] Lee: Everything I've heard about it.
[1238.14] Lee: It says it's fab.
[1239.66] Tony: I know I keep looking and thinking,
[1241.58] Tony: do I put one of my quads on it?
[1243.74] Tony: It's got the freestyle bit I like on it.
[1249.58] Tony: I think it what is it called?
[1251.26] Tony: What did they call it?
[1252.38] Tony: The mid-frottle idol, is it?
[1257.02] Tony: Have you heard about that?
[1258.62] Tony: Something like that.
[1259.66] Tony: Yeah.
[1259.98] Tony: More hang time, I think,
[1261.5] Tony: when you're freestyling.
[1263.1] Tony: Mid-frottle or it puts you,
[1265.34] Tony: obviously puts your motors
[1266.62] Tony: down to a really solid speed
[1268.06] Tony: at mid-frottle, obviously.
[1269.82] Lee: Yeah.
[1270.54] Lee: I mean, the challenge is,
[1272.06] Lee: Tony, though, isn't it?
[1272.86] Lee: Is that you want to put it
[1275.26] Lee: on a half-decent frame
[1276.38] Lee: in order to assess it properly,
[1277.9] Lee: but you don't want to risk
[1279.82] Lee: one of your half-decent builds
[1281.9] Lee: in case something goes horrible
[1283.66] Lee: and you end up with it smashed to pieces.
[1285.66] Lee: It's almost like you want to
[1287.66] Lee: keep a quad for testing.
[1291.26] Lee: But the problem is that
[1292.3] Lee: those quads that I always have,
[1293.82] Lee: I always end up upgrading them
[1295.5] Lee: or I'll get a flight controller
[1296.62] Lee: and I'll think, oh, I know,
[1298.22] Lee: I'll put it in here
[1299.1] Lee: and I end up making a nice one again.
[1301.34] Lee: So how do you guys handle that,
[1303.58] Lee: Curry?
[1303.9] Lee: I mean, are you one of those people
[1306.38] Lee: that does a lot of the
[1307.1] Lee: beta flight stuff as it comes out?
[1308.78] Lee: Or are you like me
[1309.58] Lee: that tends to wait until
[1310.62] Lee: it's out in the weeds?
[1312.78] Curry: No, I'm generally in the sort of
[1315.34] Curry: camp of if it's not then
[1317.74] Curry: I don't want to upgrade it.
[1318.78] Curry: Because when I've got something
[1319.74] Curry: flying really nice
[1320.86] Curry: and something comes along
[1321.9] Curry: and it's new and shiny,
[1323.26] Curry: as tempting as it is to sort of
[1324.94] Curry: bring a new thing along
[1325.98] Curry: and let's try it out.
[1327.18] Curry: I'm scared of like losing
[1329.02] Curry: what I had there
[1329.58] Curry: because if it does fly really nicely,
[1331.18] Curry: unless there's a specific feature
[1332.62] Curry: I'm after,
[1333.74] Curry: I don't usually go for it.
[1334.7] Curry: So the only reason I've been flying
[1336.46] Curry: some 4.1 stuff lately
[1338.7] Curry: is that I've had quads
[1339.66] Curry: that have come in before.
[1341.58] Curry: It's been like,
[1342.78] Curry: oh, what's this VTX table?
[1344.62] Curry: I need to fill this in and that.
[1346.78] Curry: So I haven't really looked at 4.2
[1348.7] Curry: to be quite honest.
[1350.62] Curry: Again, I've got the same thing.
[1352.54] Curry: My nice quads on the wall
[1353.58] Curry: behind me is like,
[1354.54] Curry: well, these are the ones that are flying nicely.
[1355.98] Curry: I don't want to mess with those.
[1359.02] Curry: A crappy old quad,
[1360.38] Curry: then it's like,
[1360.94] Curry: well, it's still crap.
[1362.38] Curry: I don't know if you're going
[1363.1] Curry: to make it better.
[1365.66] Curry: Sometimes it's the case of like,
[1367.02] Curry: I will just wait
[1368.38] Curry: and eventually get one on 4.2
[1369.98] Curry: by some means
[1371.42] Curry: and then see what it's like there
[1372.62] Curry: and see if there's a massive difference.
[1374.7] Curry: Because it'd be interesting
[1375.5] Curry: just to take a quad
[1377.66] Curry: and sort of set it up from scratch
[1379.82] Curry: in need of like whatever,
[1381.58] Curry: an earlier version,
[1382.3] Curry: then go to 4.2
[1383.5] Curry: and see what you had to do
[1384.7] Curry: and see what differences
[1386.54] Curry: it was out of the box
[1387.26] Curry: and how much fiddling
[1388.06] Curry: you actually had to do with it.
[1389.34] Curry: There you go.
[1389.9] Curry: That's an interesting idea
[1390.94] Curry: for a video for you.
[1391.9] Curry: You do that, Lee.
[1392.54] Curry: I'll watch it.
[1393.66] Lee: No, no, no.
[1394.14] Lee: You can do that one, mate.
[1395.98] Lee: I'm way too busy.
[1397.18] Lee: I'm up to my eyeballs
[1398.38] Lee: in mini-dracks
[1399.26] Lee: and nano-dracks at the moment.
[1401.02] Tony: Yeah, I watch your video.
[1403.42] Tony: Loving that drag.
[1406.06] Lee: I'll tell you,
[1407.1] Lee: I was flying it on Monday
[1408.62] Lee: and I finally figured out
[1409.74] Lee: how to get the miles per hour speed
[1411.74] Lee: in the on-screen display
[1412.78] Lee: for the DJI stuff
[1415.18] Lee: because interestingly,
[1416.22] Lee: it wasn't working
[1417.74] Lee: and I oddly couldn't find a video
[1420.46] Lee: that told you how to fix it.
[1422.14] Lee: So it was one of those things
[1423.34] Lee: where I just buggered about
[1424.54] Lee: until eventually it appeared.
[1426.7] Lee: And what I hadn't appreciated
[1428.14] Lee: was for the DJI HD goggles,
[1431.02] Lee: even though it doesn't use
[1433.34] Lee: the on-screen display
[1435.58] Lee: from the flight controller,
[1439.1] Lee: in terms of the position
[1440.22] Lee: of all the elements on the screen,
[1441.74] Lee: it still uses that tab
[1443.18] Lee: in Betaflight or iNav
[1444.62] Lee: to position everything.
[1447.02] Lee: And I hadn't turned on the speed.
[1451.42] Lee: I just thought it would read it
[1452.54] Lee: from the telemetry screen,
[1453.66] Lee: but oh no, no, no.
[1454.78] Lee: It doesn't do that at all.
[1456.14] Lee: So if you're listening to this
[1457.18] Lee: and you want to play with this stuff
[1458.3] Lee: and you're using DJI HD goggles,
[1461.82] Lee: then you've got to still position
[1463.58] Lee: everything in your on-screen displays
[1464.94] Lee: that you want it to.
[1465.66] Lee: Anyway, long story short,
[1467.18] Lee: finally had the miles per hour on there.
[1469.5] Lee: Had my new E-prop all balanced on it.
[1472.22] Lee: My mate chucked it.
[1473.66] Lee: We just tested a plane
[1475.98] Lee: that isn't out yet.
[1477.42] Lee: So I can't talk about it.
[1478.78] Lee: But the thrust angle
[1481.1] Lee: on the prop was wrong.
[1483.02] Lee: So as he threw it,
[1484.14] Lee: it just immediately started
[1485.5] Lee: to do a massive great big nose up
[1489.02] Lee: and came round in a big circle
[1490.78] Lee: and tried to hit us in the head.
[1493.66] Lee: Which was very exciting.
[1495.98] Lee: So when he threw the drag,
[1497.9] Lee: I was a bit nervous
[1499.34] Lee: about giving it full beans
[1500.78] Lee: because we nearly killed us both
[1502.62] Lee: on that test.
[1504.78] Lee: And it wasn't enough.
[1505.66] Lee: So he just threw it
[1506.46] Lee: and he just fell into the grass.
[1508.94] Lee: And for those of you that fly wings,
[1510.38] Lee: you'll know that you'll know
[1511.5] Lee: what I'm describing
[1512.54] Lee: as it kind of gently
[1514.14] Lee: flopped into the grass.
[1515.18] Lee: A little piece of plastic went bing!
[1517.58] Lee: Off the...
[1518.06] Lee: And I went, that's a prop.
[1519.9] Lee: I've lost half the prop.
[1521.26] Lee: So sure enough, I had.
[1522.86] Lee: Luckily, I'd taken
[1524.3] Lee: a really old crappy prop.
[1527.02] Lee: It was the wrong side.
[1528.14] Lee: I'd snipped the end off
[1529.18] Lee: to make it a bull nose
[1530.38] Lee: and shaved bits off
[1532.94] Lee: to try and balance it.
[1533.9] Lee: Stuck it on the back of it.
[1535.26] Lee: And even with
[1535.82] Lee: that really crappy prop,
[1537.26] Lee: it did 89 miles an hour.
[1540.14] Lee: Wow.
[1541.5] Lee: Which when you go over...
[1544.38] Lee: I haven't released a video.
[1545.34] Lee: I was talking to Jack
[1545.98] Lee: about this in the week.
[1547.18] Lee: But with the HD goggles in 16.9,
[1550.54] Lee: doing 90 miles an hour,
[1552.7] Lee: blow over the tree.
[1554.06] Lee: Oh man, it is epic.
[1557.42] Lee: So epic.
[1558.46] Lee: Hang on.
[1559.18] Lee: Let me get this.
[1562.86] Tony: Enjoy evening.
[1565.74] NJ: Hello.
[1569.36] Lee: I've got the Nano.
[1571.36] Lee: So for those of you
[1572.08] Lee: that have been watching,
[1573.84] Lee: I've actually built this
[1575.04] Lee: over the last four days.
[1577.2] Lee: So yeah, the bloody expensive things.
[1580.48] Lee: And they're a bugger to build
[1583.76] Lee: because it doesn't come like this.
[1585.44] Lee: It comes in...
[1587.6] Lee: Everything is unconnected.
[1589.28] Lee: So you have to put it together.
[1590.32] Lee: But Frank, check out
[1591.84] Lee: all these little 3D printed bits.
[1593.84] Lee: We've got little bits
[1594.64] Lee: to hold the front in.
[1596.16] Lee: We've got a little catch.
[1598.72] Lee: See if you can do it.
[1599.84] Lee: A little catch to hold the side bits in.
[1605.6] Lee: But I must admit,
[1607.04] Lee: I am dead impressed with this.
[1609.52] Lee: The only problem is,
[1610.56] Lee: I thought I was going to get this one
[1612.08] Lee: because this would be easy
[1613.12] Lee: to transport than that big.
[1615.04] Lee: It's not that big,
[1615.76] Lee: but the Mini-Drac is like
[1616.8] Lee: a 40-inch wingspan.
[1619.36] Lee: Unfortunately, this Nano-Drac,
[1621.76] Lee: I got it with the 40-inch wings,
[1624.32] Lee: so it's the same size.
[1628.88] Tony: You have to fly them fast.
[1630.24] Tony: You can't fly them slow, can you?
[1632.96] Lee: The thing is, they do fly really slow.
[1635.76] Lee: In the video.
[1637.52] Tony: Because every time
[1638.48] Tony: I see someone flying them,
[1639.92] Tony: they're flying them all the time.
[1641.52] Tony: They're flying them so fast.
[1643.6] Lee: Well, the thing is that
[1644.56] Lee: the Drax do fly incredibly quickly.
[1646.48] Lee: But if you cut the engine
[1648.48] Lee: and you just kind of,
[1649.52] Lee: they glide really well.
[1651.92] Lee: And the first...
[1655.2] Lee: Anyway, this thing on Monday,
[1658.16] Lee: flying it, like I said,
[1659.52] Lee: with a really crappy prop,
[1660.72] Lee: about 89 miles an hour,
[1663.04] Lee: over the heads.
[1663.92] Lee: And in the video,
[1665.6] Lee: I was watching it back
[1666.8] Lee: because my mate's got his hat cam on.
[1668.32] Lee: He's watching it.
[1670.08] Lee: He's doing my spotting
[1671.04] Lee: as I'm flying with the FPV stuff.
[1673.68] Lee: And he's like,
[1674.56] Lee: it's a little bugger
[1675.84] Lee: because what he does,
[1676.64] Lee: he says, always,
[1677.28] Lee: go on, go on,
[1678.16] Lee: give it full throttle,
[1678.88] Lee: give it full throttle.
[1680.72] Lee: You know, we've all got
[1681.76] Lee: one of those mates at the field,
[1683.04] Lee: right?
[1684.88] Lee: Go on, Tony!
[1686.72] Lee: Go on, give it the full beat.
[1688.24] Lee: So I'm doing passes
[1689.92] Lee: at full tilt over overhead.
[1691.84] Lee: Hey, MJ!
[1693.52] Lee: Hello, mate.
[1694.08] Lee: And as it goes over the top,
[1699.68] Lee: the noise is incredible.
[1701.44] Lee: And all you can hear
[1702.56] Lee: is him and I on the video
[1703.92] Lee: from the from the hat cam.
[1705.84] Lee: Absolutely killing ourselves,
[1707.52] Lee: laughing and giggling
[1708.48] Lee: like little 13-year-old kids
[1710.72] Lee: as this thing just tears off
[1712.48] Lee: into this guy.
[1713.2] Lee: Hey, never grow up.
[1714.96] Lee: You know what it is?
[1716.4] Lee: And it is just so nice
[1717.84] Lee: because I have so missed flying
[1719.92] Lee: under all this lockdown stuff.
[1722.96] Lee: And I'm sure I'm not the only one,
[1724.4] Lee: but I think lots of us
[1725.36] Lee: were kind of forgetting
[1726.24] Lee: what the hobby was all about
[1727.76] Lee: and how fun it was.
[1729.68] Lee: That's a good one.
[1730.64] Tony: What outside was.
[1733.84] Tony: Yeah, I think a lot of us
[1735.04] Tony: did.
[1735.36] Tony: I mean, I'm joking.
[1736.08] Tony: I like doing it now.
[1737.44] Tony: I keep forgetting to arrange
[1739.44] Tony: to go out on the weekend.
[1741.76] Tony: But I'm trying to do it again now.
[1743.44] Tony: I'm starting to go out.
[1744.24] Tony: Monday was the first time
[1745.84] Tony: I've left the postcode.
[1747.12] Tony: So we should ask MJ about 120.
[1750.48] Tony: Is that what you're going to say?
[1751.28] Tony: Yeah.
[1751.76] Tony: I'll get you to it.
[1752.32] Curry: Yes, because MJ is an early adopter
[1755.12] Curry: and likes to be on the cutting edge
[1757.12] Curry: of tech.
[1757.6] Curry: The bleeding edge.
[1758.16] Curry: The bleeding edge.
[1760.48] NJ: It's not about cutting.
[1761.52] NJ: It's about bleeding
[1762.88] NJ: in a horrible heat.
[1763.68] Curry: Well, one comes after the other
[1765.44] Curry: generally, doesn't it?
[1766.48] NJ: Yeah, yeah, I'm afraid so.
[1768.08] NJ: But 4.2.
[1769.52] NJ: Is that what we're talking about
[1770.96] NJ: in terms of a B to flight?
[1773.36] NJ: But I'm very careful to say that
[1774.72] NJ: right in front of the carrier
[1775.76] NJ: triggering if I say B to flight.
[1779.44] Curry: We're not American here.
[1782.56] NJ: It's been very, very good.
[1784.16] NJ: Very I mean, I always jump on the RCs
[1787.04] NJ: just to see what's happening.
[1788.48] NJ: And I've got enough sacrificial quads
[1790.24] NJ: as I know you mentioned earlier
[1793.04] NJ: to throw as a test bed
[1795.28] NJ: for these things.
[1796.64] NJ: And I'll usually put it on a couple.
[1798.08] NJ: So at least I've got some hardware
[1799.76] NJ: variation to see how they work out.
[1802.96] NJ: And in a long while,
[1804.64] NJ: this has probably been the first time
[1808.56] NJ: it's been very solid
[1809.68] NJ: right through the RCs.
[1810.8] NJ: I haven't had any issues
[1813.2] NJ: right up to release.
[1814.48] NJ: Certainly nothing.
[1815.12] NJ: I've felt the need to jump on
[1816.88] NJ: and report.
[1818.56] NJ: So it's been very, very good.
[1820.16] NJ: And the big thing I liked
[1822.64] NJ: was them adding in the ability
[1824.0] NJ: to add kiss rates or race flight rates
[1825.84] NJ: because I've always liked the way
[1827.36] Lee: the stick feeler kiss worked.
[1829.68] NJ: Yeah.
[1830.08] NJ: So that's been a really welcome feature.
[1832.96] NJ: So yeah, I've got very little negative things.
[1835.68] NJ: Have you found the mid-fro idle thing?
[1841.04] NJ: Yeah, I've not missed about
[1842.4] NJ: too much with it yet.
[1843.28] NJ: I've just sort of put the feelers out
[1845.12] NJ: and seen how things are feeling
[1847.12] NJ: and checking motor temps
[1848.24] NJ: and all that kind of thing.
[1849.76] NJ: Something Curry mentioned earlier,
[1851.04] NJ: actually, the one thing I always do,
[1852.48] NJ: especially if I've got a quad
[1853.52] NJ: that I know flies well,
[1854.72] NJ: I'll just do a dump,
[1855.84] NJ: chuck it in a folder.
[1856.48] NJ: Yeah, do a dump.
[1858.08] NJ: Then at least I know
[1859.28] NJ: if it all goes wrong,
[1860.08] NJ: I can flash back
[1860.96] NJ: and drop that dump back on
[1863.6] NJ: because yeah,
[1864.16] NJ: it's always a little bit of a
[1865.36] NJ: should I, shouldn't I,
[1866.24] NJ: when you've got a good flying quad.
[1868.96] Tony: So just put a kiss on your quad
[1871.6] NJ: and go and fly and it's fine.
[1874.32] NJ: Don't start that whole argument again.
[1876.08] Curry: One of my questions
[1877.2] Curry: about when you're moving up
[1879.2] Curry: a release like that is,
[1880.4] Curry: how much do you have to do?
[1882.64] Curry: It always would be great
[1884.48] Curry: if you could just move your firmware up
[1887.84] Curry: and just take it out and fly it.
[1889.12] Curry: And it's like, oh, look at that.
[1890.16] Curry: It flies great.
[1892.48] Curry: Which is I prefer it
[1894.0] Curry: because nowadays,
[1895.68] Curry: if you look at exactly how much
[1897.04] Curry: there is to mess around with in stuff,
[1899.44] Curry: there's an awful lot to it.
[1901.2] Curry: If you've missed out
[1901.84] Curry: a couple of releases,
[1902.64] Curry: you're like, what is this stuff?
[1904.88] NJ: So I think personally,
[1906.4] NJ: the one thing that you should make
[1907.92] NJ: a habit with now is to,
[1909.68] NJ: with every new release,
[1910.88] NJ: go and look at the tuning notes
[1912.88] NJ: for that release.
[1913.68] NJ: If you just Google
[1914.64] NJ: beta flight 4.2 tuning notes,
[1917.44] NJ: you'll see a whole page
[1918.48] NJ: with a load of CLI
[1919.84] NJ: that's tuned specifically for
[1922.96] NJ: racing, for fast race,
[1925.04] NJ: stroke, freestyle,
[1926.4] NJ: one for cinematic.
[1927.52] NJ: Like there's so much
[1928.8] NJ: that goes into them
[1930.64] NJ: now categorizing
[1932.16] NJ: how you might like to fly
[1933.36] NJ: and then giving you a load of code
[1934.64] NJ: to kind of give you that help
[1936.64] NJ: rather than you having to search
[1937.92] NJ: through and understand
[1938.88] NJ: every type of filter setting.
[1940.4] NJ: And really, you can just
[1942.0] NJ: paste that code in
[1942.88] NJ: as a good starting point.
[1945.04] NJ: And then always say the same thing
[1946.48] NJ: like go out and fly the defaults
[1948.32] NJ: are so good in the envelope
[1949.44] NJ: so wide on the defaults now
[1952.16] NJ: that it covers so much gear
[1954.08] NJ: and flies well
[1955.12] NJ: just without having to do
[1956.08] NJ: anything with the PIDs.
[1957.04] NJ: I'll usually do a stop flight first
[1959.52] NJ: just with the default PIDs
[1960.72] NJ: and this tuning code.
[1963.52] NJ: Check things over
[1964.4] NJ: and then start to push
[1966.16] NJ: sliders around and tighten
[1968.88] NJ: the nuts and bolts.
[1972.16] NJ: But yeah, I guess
[1974.4] NJ: because I do it a lot
[1975.68] NJ: I've got a bit of a process to it
[1978.32] NJ: and the certain quads
[1979.36] NJ: I know off by heart
[1980.48] NJ: what the ports are
[1982.0] NJ: and all the other stuff
[1982.88] NJ: people usually flash
[1983.92] NJ: and then go,
[1984.88] NJ: oh, I didn't take a screenshot
[1986.24] NJ: of my port settings.
[1988.24] NJ: And it's when you do things like that
[1989.44] NJ: it becomes a ball ache.
[1990.64] NJ: But I think it's good.
[1993.12] NJ: Make a dump of the quad
[1996.0] NJ: and the few screenshots
[1997.04] NJ: of your configuration page
[1998.72] NJ: so you know your port settings
[1999.92] NJ: and whether you were running
[2001.36] NJ: bi-directional D shot.
[2003.36] NJ: If you're doing that
[2004.08] NJ: how many motor poles have you got?
[2005.68] NJ: If it's a five inch
[2006.32] NJ: it's probably 14.
[2007.28] NJ: If it's just a little one
[2008.32] NJ: it's probably 12.
[2009.44] NJ: All those little things
[2010.32] NJ: will just mean
[2010.88] NJ: you can fly through it quickly.
[2013.84] NJ: But yeah, there's also
[2015.12] NJ: as you say
[2015.52] NJ: a good argument for
[2016.72] NJ: it flies great
[2017.68] NJ: leave it
[2018.32] NJ: just enjoy flying.
[2020.0] NJ: So that's more about you.
[2022.88] Curry: The good news about
[2023.76] Curry: the tuning notes
[2024.64] Curry: because I remember
[2025.36] Curry: looking at those in past releases
[2027.12] Curry: and it was some really ancient document
[2029.68] Curry: that was sort of
[2030.88] Curry: the very first time
[2032.08] Curry: somebody videoed something
[2033.52] Curry: and like here's a pea oscillation.
[2035.2] Curry: So if they've updated that
[2036.56] Curry: that's a good start I think.
[2038.56] NJ: Yeah, it's very good.
[2039.6] NJ: And the actual amount of code
[2040.88] NJ: you have to write in.
[2041.68] NJ: I mean obviously just copy paste
[2043.44] NJ: enter save and you're done.
[2046.08] NJ: But it's well explained now as well
[2049.6] NJ: they're doing such a good job
[2050.72] NJ: of kind of putting this
[2052.56] NJ: into more layman terms
[2054.08] NJ: where things aren't.
[2055.2] NJ: Even in terms of the configurator
[2058.0] NJ: the little question marks
[2059.12] NJ: next to everything
[2059.76] NJ: if you hover over them
[2060.72] NJ: a lot of them have been rewritten
[2061.84] NJ: in a very understandable way
[2065.28] NJ: that's not totally understandable.
[2068.88] Tony: I think so.
[2069.6] Jack: Yes, it could never be.
[2076.16] Jack: Do you know what I always do?
[2077.28] Jack: I always do a dump
[2078.32] Jack: forget some sort of settings
[2079.52] Jack: and then have to hover.
[2080.16] Jack: We know you always do a dump.
[2084.16] Jack: Genius.
[2085.44] Jack: There's a question here for you.
[2087.36] Jack: Any advice on putting iNav
[2088.88] Jack: in a F-16 foamy?
[2093.12] Lee: Yeah, I kind of didn't finish
[2095.52] Lee: my story before.
[2096.48] Lee: The whole reason
[2097.76] Lee: and it kind of relates back
[2099.04] Lee: to the whole PID tuning thing.
[2104.56] Lee: The very first flight
[2105.76] Lee: of the track that I did
[2107.04] Lee: was horrible on iNav
[2109.44] Lee: and what I found
[2110.4] Lee: was that in a stabilized mode
[2112.4] Lee: the nose was wobbling
[2114.8] Lee: and it felt like the P gain
[2116.56] Lee: was fighting the fixed wing.
[2119.12] Lee: So I kind of came back
[2120.72] Lee: and thinking okay
[2121.36] Lee: I'm probably going to have
[2122.16] Lee: to drop that quite a lot.
[2124.16] Lee: It was quite a slow wobble
[2125.68] Lee: so I didn't know
[2126.24] Lee: whether I needed to increase that.
[2127.68] Lee: It was all that kind of
[2129.04] Lee: messing about you have to do
[2130.8] Lee: and then I happened to watch
[2133.28] Lee: a video
[2134.72] Lee: because you guys have had
[2136.16] Lee: Pavl on here, haven't you?
[2137.2] Lee: Pavl Spikowski,
[2138.4] Lee: the iNav developer.
[2139.52] Lee: Lovely guy, Pavl.
[2143.2] Lee: Pavl's got a really weird video
[2145.2] Lee: about setting up iNav on a wing
[2148.08] Lee: which is kind of answering
[2149.2] Lee: Lergie's question I think.
[2151.12] Lee: Lergie's.
[2152.0] Lee: Because in the video
[2154.16] Lee: what he says is
[2155.28] Lee: on a fixed wing turn off your P gain,
[2159.68] Lee: turn your iGain down
[2161.52] Lee: to almost nothing
[2162.8] Lee: and use feed forward
[2164.72] Lee: the PIF part of the feed forward
[2167.68] Lee: use that to actually control your aircraft.
[2170.24] Lee: And I kind of I watch the video
[2172.72] Lee: and you know from all of the years
[2174.8] Lee: and years we've all done
[2175.92] Lee: with PID controllers
[2177.6] Lee: and setting them up
[2178.64] Lee: and tuning them
[2179.44] Lee: and fanging about
[2180.4] Lee: and midpoint throttle brake
[2181.92] Lee: and all that jazz.
[2184.16] Lee: The idea of turning the P gain off
[2185.92] Lee: just seemed completely wrong
[2187.12] Lee: but then you think about it
[2188.16] Lee: and you go hang on a minute
[2190.08] Lee: a plane is and a flying wing
[2192.24] Lee: is a naturally stable thing.
[2194.48] Lee: If you don't have a flight controller
[2196.0] Lee: you can still fly it, right?
[2197.36] Lee: So you don't need a flight controller
[2199.6] Lee: to do a thousand different corrections
[2202.96] Lee: every second
[2204.72] Lee: in order to keep it in the air
[2205.84] Lee: like for a multi-rotor
[2206.88] Lee: because if you have a flight controller
[2208.16] Lee: and a multi-rotor
[2209.36] Lee: it would immediately just kill itself
[2210.88] Lee: and flip death.
[2212.8] Lee: So the idea of turning it off is great
[2214.4] Lee: and that's what I did with a mini drive
[2215.68] Lee: that's what I did on Monday.
[2216.72] Lee: I had a P gain of zero
[2219.92] Lee: I had an iGain of four
[2222.4] Lee: and then the feed forward
[2223.6] Lee: was what had been calculated
[2225.28] Lee: from the auto tune
[2226.96] Lee: and I flew it in something
[2228.48] Lee: called Acro mode.
[2229.68] Lee: So this Acro still uses
[2232.08] Lee: the PIF controller in iNAV
[2234.0] Lee: manual completely ignores
[2236.16] Lee: all the PIF settings
[2237.44] Lee: and I flew it in Acro
[2238.8] Lee: and it was immense
[2242.4] Lee: absolutely immense.
[2243.92] Lee: So Lurgi what I would do is
[2246.4] Lee: if you're going to put iNAV
[2247.44] Lee: on something like an F16 foamy
[2249.6] Lee: that's already reasonably stable
[2252.96] Lee: just be aware of that.
[2254.32] Lee: I'm doing another video on it
[2256.08] Lee: but Pavel's got one as well.
[2258.4] Lee: Set it up as you would normally
[2260.32] Lee: tune it as you would normally
[2262.64] Lee: like Frank was talking about before
[2264.16] Lee: always do your tuning
[2265.12] Lee: three mistakes high
[2266.16] Lee: that gives you a chance of recovering it
[2269.04] Lee: but once you've got that done
[2270.64] Lee: is then turn the P gain off
[2272.96] Lee: turn the iGain down to about six
[2276.16] Lee: and then keep the feed forward
[2278.64] Lee: whatever the auto tune set it as
[2281.28] Lee: and fly in Acro
[2283.12] Lee: and it will be immense.
[2286.64] Lee: It still works for things
[2287.84] Lee: like return to home
[2289.68] Lee: because the iGain
[2292.0] Lee: what it does is iGain
[2293.2] Lee: is there to take
[2295.12] Lee: and correct for sustained deviation
[2297.84] Lee: and what that means is
[2298.64] Lee: that if you're flying along
[2299.68] Lee: rather being straight and level
[2300.8] Lee: if the wind kind of tips you over
[2302.56] Lee: so one of the wings go down
[2304.0] Lee: in a fixed wing
[2305.12] Lee: that's perfect for iGain
[2306.8] Lee: because iGain will work
[2308.16] Lee: to bring that other wing
[2310.08] Lee: back up to level
[2311.12] Lee: if that's what you're trying to do
[2312.56] Lee: so it takes all of that stuff
[2315.28] Lee: into account
[2316.64] Lee: and things like return to home
[2318.4] Lee: and that still work
[2319.52] Lee: so that would be my bit
[2320.64] Lee: my new advice
[2321.44] Lee: and literally that's something
[2322.56] Lee: I only been doing for the last week
[2325.44] Lee: I watched Paddle's video
[2326.72] Lee: first time I watched it
[2327.6] Lee: I thought this is just silly
[2329.68] Lee: this will no won't work
[2331.04] Lee: second time I watched it
[2332.4] Lee: it started to make sense
[2333.68] Lee: third time I actually made notes in my book
[2335.84] Lee: because I was thinking
[2336.48] Lee: I'm gonna
[2338.24] Lee: because you also do things
[2339.12] Lee: like turn your own little black book
[2341.36] Lee: oh it's a little black
[2342.4] Lee: but well it's bigger
[2344.16] Lee: it's bigger than
[2345.6] Lee: because you've got one as well
[2346.72] Lee: haven't you Jack
[2348.4] Lee: you've got a little book
[2349.28] Lee: with all your notes in
[2351.84] Lee: does everyone not have
[2352.64] Lee: a little book like this
[2353.52] Lee: where you put all your
[2354.16] Lee: really important stuff in
[2360.0] Tony: oh my god
[2361.28] Tony: mines literally got
[2362.64] Tony: birds names in and that's it
[2364.08] NJ: mine used to be a lot smaller for that sadly
[2370.4] NJ: but do you know what was interesting
[2372.16] NJ: about you saying about the f16
[2374.48] NJ: the real one
[2375.52] NJ: the real one's actually
[2377.92] NJ: a fly-by-wire system
[2379.12] NJ: so it's all
[2379.84] NJ: obviously nothing connects all
[2381.28] NJ: if the computer dies in that
[2382.8] NJ: you know
[2383.44] NJ: they have to actually eject
[2384.72] NJ: because the whole thing
[2385.44] NJ: is completely inherently untable
[2387.76] NJ: so that that plane's really
[2389.36] NJ: quite quite horrible
[2390.24] NJ: to fly without a computer
[2391.44] Tony: isn't that same as the euro fire
[2393.92] Tony: that's got like
[2394.48] Tony: euro five
[2394.96] Tony: yeah there's quite
[2396.16] Tony: there's quite a few of them now
[2397.44] Tony: computers
[2397.92] NJ: how many f35 and 22
[2400.16] NJ: and a lot of them
[2400.96] NJ: the rounds
[2401.6] NJ: the whole yeah
[2402.24] Tony: what about that
[2403.6] Tony: a330 is that the same
[2407.52] Tony: is the one that keeps going wrong
[2408.88] Lee: that doesn't fly very well
[2410.16] Lee: and stuff
[2411.04] Lee: yeah that's not got all the computers
[2412.64] Lee: because it is so inherently unstable
[2414.8] Lee: for dog fighting
[2415.68] Lee: that you need
[2418.0] Tony: flying into ten reef
[2419.36] Tony: you know what i'm saying
[2420.48] Lee: to be fair we don't know
[2421.6] Lee: it's dog fighting capability
[2424.64] Lee: it hasn't yet been tested
[2425.84] Lee: you're absolutely right nj
[2427.2] Lee: i'll retract that
[2431.76] NJ: yeah it is interesting
[2434.48] NJ: it's a lot of stuff
[2435.28] NJ: so it's funny you should say
[2436.64] NJ: that actually painless
[2438.88] NJ: when you're talking about the
[2440.88] NJ: the fact that everyone's
[2442.08] NJ: just so accustomed to flying
[2443.76] NJ: or in the mindset of flying
[2445.6] NJ: fixed doing with flight controllers
[2447.12] NJ: now because obviously
[2447.84] NJ: we're from an old school
[2449.44] NJ: those were the new things
[2450.56] NJ: like for years and years
[2452.24] NJ: you didn't
[2452.96] NJ: fly control had nothing to do
[2454.16] NJ: with the plane
[2454.96] NJ: in any form
[2456.64] NJ: no even
[2457.6] NJ: even helicopters
[2458.48] NJ: it was very old mechanical
[2460.64] NJ: one mechanical gyro
[2462.64] Curry: now i wonder what trim tabs
[2464.72] Curry: for our radios now
[2465.84] Curry: don't you it's like
[2466.56] Curry: enough nothing wants you
[2467.6] Curry: to use them anymore
[2469.92] Lee: that's it
[2471.6] NJ: we've got this
[2473.76] Lee: i'm just going to say
[2474.4] Lee: i've actually getting
[2476.24] Lee: some radio control helicopters
[2477.92] Lee: into play with
[2478.72] Lee: and hopefully this
[2480.24] Lee: so this will work
[2481.68] Lee: and all of these you know
[2484.0] Lee: talking about the flight controller
[2485.2] Lee: thing to pick up on what
[2486.16] Lee: because i know you're
[2487.2] Lee: you're a heli pilot of old as well
[2489.84] Lee: i'm excited to get them in
[2491.2] Lee: just to try helis again
[2493.6] Lee: but they come these days
[2495.12] Lee: with all the fly baller stuff
[2496.8] Lee: and flight controllers stuff
[2498.08] Lee: already installed
[2499.28] Lee: so you literally just like
[2500.4] Lee: you put your s bus in
[2501.52] Lee: and you set your game channels
[2503.12] Lee: and all that jazz
[2503.84] Lee: and one of the main reasons
[2505.04] Lee: i'm getting it in
[2505.6] Lee: is because i have loads of
[2506.48] Lee: questions from people
[2507.44] Lee: wanting to know
[2508.0] Lee: how to do open tx
[2509.68] Lee: with fly ballers controllers
[2511.52] Lee: because there aren't
[2512.56] Lee: many videos about it
[2514.08] Lee: but between you and i
[2515.28] Lee: i'm actually quite looking forward
[2516.72] NJ: to getting the helicopter again
[2518.48] NJ: can't wait yeah
[2519.2] NJ: well i i got one
[2520.64] NJ: at the end of last year
[2521.6] NJ: which is still waiting
[2522.56] NJ: to have a proper flight
[2523.6] NJ: so i sneakily jumped
[2525.52] NJ: on board again
[2526.96] NJ: as well
[2528.16] Lee: quite excited
[2530.96] Lee: we need some kind of association
[2532.4] Lee: where we go
[2532.96] Lee: and admit that you know
[2535.04] Lee: i'm a i'm a
[2536.4] Lee: hellaholic yeah
[2538.64] NJ: secret secret rotary love
[2541.36] Lee: yeah a single single
[2542.88] Lee: rotor enthusiast
[2545.52] Frank: there's a project
[2548.08] Frank: tom stanton is working on
[2550.16] Frank: there's a helicopter
[2551.92] Frank: at the moment
[2552.88] Frank: that looks very interesting
[2555.68] Frank: but i don't think the proper
[2557.36] Frank: video is out yet
[2559.44] NJ: it's because he was a good
[2560.32] NJ: heli pilot
[2560.88] NJ: i remember the one the first
[2562.08] NJ: early videos
[2562.8] NJ: when tom barely had any subs
[2564.48] NJ: he put some videos up
[2566.16] NJ: of a t-rex 700
[2567.68] NJ: that he was electric
[2568.96] NJ: one of the one of the first ones
[2570.48] NJ: first models of it
[2571.84] NJ: and he was seeing how many bricks
[2573.84] NJ: he could lift with it
[2574.8] NJ: so it was a heavy
[2576.32] NJ: which turned out to be
[2577.2] NJ: a hell of a lot as it goes
[2578.96] NJ: with a whopping great
[2579.92] NJ: 90 size electric helicopter
[2582.0] NJ: but i'm sure if you look
[2583.36] NJ: through old enough videos
[2584.4] NJ: of his you'll find this
[2585.76] NJ: heavy lifting helicopter
[2587.28] NJ: vids to him so
[2588.32] NJ: he knows what he's doing
[2589.12] NJ: with the helis for sure
[2591.68] Jack: i posted a
[2592.8] Jack: andrew newton link
[2595.6] Jack: he talks about acro
[2598.08] Jack: for inaf in there
[2599.6] Jack: and i thought it was pretty good
[2601.04] Jack: i posted that
[2602.32] Jack: and i'm also trying to
[2604.56] Jack: trying to see whether
[2605.36] Jack: we can get
[2606.0] Jack: nicolas means on
[2608.08] Jack: you know like one of the
[2609.28] Jack: lead guys from
[2611.68] Jack: from github
[2612.64] Jack: and he's a big aviation fan
[2614.96] Jack: and he loves talking
[2616.16] Jack: about plane crashes

[2622.48] Jack: i'd get on with him
[2623.52] Jack: i'm a bit of an aircrusher

[2635.6] Jack: fire in his mouth
[2639.52] Jack: it was like the show
[2640.96] Jack: would go on for about
[2642.08] Jack: five hours i think
[2643.84] Jack: i just i
[2644.72] Jack: and i would just sit there
[2645.68] Jack: in the corner just like
[2648.4] Lee: well if you get him on
[2650.0] Lee: the hook let me know
[2652.0] Frank: this episode was recorded
[2653.28] Frank: in front of a live
[2654.16] Frank: online audience
[2655.12] Frank: downloaded and edited
[2656.24] Frank: to make sense
[2656.96] Frank: when it played audio only
[2658.72] Frank: censored to please the
[2659.76] Frank: itunes people
[2660.56] Frank: hosted on the internet
[2661.6] Frank: forwarded through
[2662.16] Frank: to your podcast provider

[2673.52] Frank: at patreon.com
[2674.96] Frank: forward slash
[2675.76] Frank: let's drone out
[2677.2] Lee: taking of crashes and stuff
[2678.8] Lee: have there been any
[2680.8] Lee: yeah interesting
[2682.96] Lee: airprox stuff
[2684.24] Lee: frank that you've read recently
[2685.76] Lee: are you still keeping
[2686.56] Lee: an eye on those
[2687.68] Frank: i haven't i haven't actually
[2688.72] Frank: looked at the airprox stuff
[2689.92] Frank: recently
[2693.2] Frank: there was
[2696.32] Frank: there was there's something
[2697.52] Frank: oh there was the the couple
[2700.96] Frank: that got arrested
[2702.8] Lee: two hundred grand
[2703.84] Lee: yeah two hundred grand
[2705.28] Lee: but yeah
[2706.72] Tony: arresting
[2707.52] Tony: out
[2710.88] Jack: i bet you wish that
[2711.76] Jack: the police did listen
[2712.64] Jack: to let's drone out
[2713.6] Jack: so that you could have got
[2714.8] Jack: they would have got
[2715.68] Jack: a real
[2719.12] Jack: yeah it's been
[2720.56] Jack: between 200 grand
[2721.6] Jack: uptown we would never
[2722.64] Jack: have seen you
[2723.52] Tony: actually think the lawyers
[2724.72] Tony: took about 150
[2726.64] Lee: it was it was it was
[2727.76] Lee: a 50 grand award
[2729.44] Lee: and 150 in legal fees
[2731.12] Lee: so as usual the lawyers
[2732.56] Lee: ran away with the majority
[2733.6] Lee: of the money
[2734.96] Tony: but 50 grand
[2736.0] Tony: they sniffed out
[2737.12] Tony: for one night in a slammer
[2741.04] Tony: i'll say that so easily
[2746.72] Lee: i just love the way that
[2747.6] Lee: nobody jumps on that
[2748.56] Lee: particular wagon
[2749.6] NJ: with it
[2752.32] NJ: well we'll send you a cake
[2753.6] NJ: with a saw in it tony
[2754.96] Tony: thank you
[2756.64] NJ: or a bar of soap
[2759.44] Tony: where's the soap
[2760.48] Tony: yes
[2761.6] Tony: that's it
[2766.74] Lee: sorry
[2767.78] Lee: yeah so going back
[2768.98] Lee: to the airport stuff
[2769.94] Lee: yeah can you keep an eye
[2771.7] Lee: on them and send me the
[2772.5] Lee: because i used to love
[2773.54] Lee: getting those little messages
[2775.22] Lee: from you on twitter
[2776.1] Lee: so when you found
[2776.74] Lee: the really funny ones
[2777.62] Lee: you know the ones like
[2779.7] Lee: 40 000 feet
[2781.38] Lee: you know a drone was spotted
[2783.46] Lee: that appeared to just
[2784.34] Lee: have two rotors
[2786.82] Lee: traveling at 600 miles an hour
[2789.62] Lee: i love all those ones
[2790.66] Frank: the ones that are
[2791.78] Frank: pink and round
[2792.82] Frank: those ones
[2795.22] Frank: are we still on now
[2796.66] Jack: yeah that was it
[2797.54] Jack: yeah that was uh
[2799.46] Jack: i know who submitted that
[2801.06] Jack: by the way
[2803.46] Jack: and i will write it
[2805.06] Frank: in the private chat
[2812.1] Frank: but yeah there's
[2815.14] Frank: the uh
[2817.14] Frank: the july rules
[2818.26] Frank: that have been delayed
[2819.22] Frank: to november
[2820.1] Frank: if anyone hasn't heard
[2821.3] Frank: heard yet have been delayed
[2822.66] Frank: to the end of december
[2826.1] Frank: as i think it was
[2827.22] Frank: rub an fpv
[2828.1] Frank: pointed out
[2829.7] Frank: the thing about operator ids
[2834.1] Frank: being on your aircraft
[2835.94] Frank: when you fly them
[2837.22] Frank: that wasn't actually
[2837.94] Frank: part of the july rules
[2838.98] Frank: that was part of
[2839.94] Frank: some rules last year
[2841.38] Frank: and it was just that
[2842.26] Frank: there was an exemption
[2843.62] Frank: for the members of the associations
[2845.86] Frank: so that meant
[2846.58] Frank: that we could ignore that
[2847.78] Frank: until july
[2849.46] Frank: but that hasn't actually
[2850.34] Frank: been extended yet
[2852.02] Frank: but speaking to the people
[2853.62] Frank: that are going to be
[2854.58] Frank: sitting in the meetings
[2855.7] Frank: there is a zoom call
[2857.22] Frank: planned for the 28th of june
[2860.58] Frank: where they are actually
[2861.54] Frank: gonna work out
[2863.38] Frank: things again
[2864.26] Frank: and actually start talking
[2865.22] Frank: about stuff
[2866.02] Frank: because they've been a bit busy
[2867.06] Frank: with like
[2867.78] Frank: trying and airlines
[2869.3] Frank: go bust and things
[2870.9] Lee: i love i love the way
[2871.78] Lee: that curry starts
[2872.74] Lee: that starts with a
[2873.54] Lee: persistent cough
[2877.14] Lee: yeah
[2879.94] Lee: sorry
[2884.58] Lee: i'm just glad i'm
[2885.38] Lee: socially distanced
[2886.26] Lee: that's all
[2887.54] Frank: it's a good thing
[2888.1] Frank: this is all remote
[2889.78] Frank: but yeah so
[2890.82] Frank: on the 29th we
[2893.14] Frank: sounds like
[2893.78] Frank: we might well hear
[2895.38] Frank: that the exemption
[2896.66] Frank: has been extended
[2898.42] Frank: for members
[2899.62] Frank: but it means
[2900.5] Frank: there's like three days
[2901.54] Frank: between them
[2902.82] Frank: confirming that
[2903.7] Frank: and us actually having
[2906.18] Frank: to have numbers on things
[2908.18] Tony: if you haven't got any numbers
[2910.82] Tony: on my stuff so
[2912.02] Frank: yeah i'm not bothering
[2913.54] Frank: just yeah
[2914.02] Frank: good information
[2915.3] Frank: nice one
[2916.82] Lee: yeah
[2917.3] Lee: please keep me up to date
[2918.34] Lee: with that brother
[2920.02] Frank: and i don't know
[2920.74] Frank: if anyone's seen
[2922.5] Frank: there was
[2923.94] Frank: a big furori
[2925.46] Frank: on facebook
[2929.62] Frank: the drone and sundry guys
[2933.14] Frank: were having
[2934.1] Frank: big powwow on tuesday
[2935.62] Frank: saying that
[2936.9] Frank: this is going to be terrible
[2938.74] Frank: because there's the new version
[2940.42] Frank: of cap 1789
[2941.7] Frank: that was released last week
[2944.74] Frank: i think just as we were having
[2946.02] Frank: this show last week
[2948.5] Frank: and there's some updates in there
[2951.14] Frank: there's the remote idea
[2952.1] Frank: that we talked about before
[2953.06] Frank: when it was updated
[2954.18] Frank: a few months ago
[2955.7] Frank: but there was some other ones
[2957.06] Frank: and they're just kind of
[2958.18] Frank: a bit worried about stuff
[2959.3] Frank: but from what i can tell
[2962.42] Frank: i'm not entirely sure
[2963.78] Frank: unless you've got a pfco
[2967.3] Frank: and you're worried about
[2968.9] Frank: having your pfco
[2970.34] Frank: mean anything
[2971.54] Frank: i can't see anything
[2974.02] Frank: that means anything to us
[2975.46] Frank: so it's you know
[2978.18] Frank: if you're a pro
[2980.02] Frank: then or you care about the pros
[2981.78] Frank: then maybe you want to
[2983.62] Frank: read a bit more into it
[2984.58] Frank: and write some letters
[2985.94] Frank: but i don't quite understand
[2987.62] Frank: what the fuss is about myself
[2989.22] Frank: so we'll see
[2991.38] Lee: what was that thing
[2992.1] Lee: you popped to me
[2992.82] Lee: the other day
[2993.46] Lee: about sending a letter to your mp
[2995.54] Lee: is that related to it
[2996.58] Lee: or is that something else?
[2997.38] Frank: yeah that was this
[2998.02] Frank: so this was a letter that
[3000.42] Frank: one of them
[3000.98] Frank: or one of their mates
[3002.58] Frank: had written
[3004.58] Frank: so it's just kind of saying
[3007.78] Frank: if you've got a pfco now
[3009.94] Frank: that should kind of be enough
[3012.58] Frank: i think was the sort of
[3014.26] Frank: general gist of it
[3016.02] Frank: but i haven't really
[3018.02] Frank: dug deep into it
[3019.06] Frank: because i just kind of
[3020.5] Frank: looked over the updates
[3022.5] Frank: from last week
[3023.3] Frank: and nothing sprang out at me
[3025.86] Frank: like ah this is going to
[3027.54] Frank: really affect
[3029.7] Frank: the area that i know about
[3031.94] Frank: so i've just kind of
[3033.54] Frank: ignored most of it
[3036.34] Lee: yeah i think i think yeah
[3038.18] Lee: let's let's all ignore it
[3039.46] Lee: and hope it just goes away
[3040.58] Frank: and there was a time i'm sure
[3042.5] Frank: where i would have
[3043.78] Frank: gone through every clause
[3046.74] Frank: and looked at the consequences
[3049.46] Frank: but the yeah it seems so
[3053.14] Frank: insignificant now
[3054.26] Frank: especially when it's you know
[3056.5] Frank: changing every week
[3058.1] NJ: exactly chance tomorrow anyway
[3060.1] Frank: exactly
[3060.98] Frank: so i i'll wait until
[3064.74] Frank: bmfa or someone else
[3066.26] Frank: starts shouting about something
[3067.78] Frank: and then maybe pay attention
[3070.1] Lee: yeah no i think that sounds
[3071.62] Lee: like a plan
[3072.26] Lee: i'm just i'm just pleased
[3073.22] Lee: it keeps getting delayed
[3074.26] Lee: because it's a it's a ridiculous
[3076.26] Lee: waste of money
[3076.82] Lee: in my humble opinion
[3077.7] Lee: they should give all that money
[3079.06] Lee: in pay rises
[3079.94] Lee: to all the frontline staff
[3081.06] Lee: that have just been putting
[3082.02] Lee: their lives at risk
[3082.74] Lee: during this virus outbreak
[3084.34] Lee: and stop putting it
[3085.46] Lee: in the pockets of idiots
[3086.5] Lee: stood sat in rooms
[3087.62] Lee: drinking lots of coffee and tea
[3088.82] Lee: and burning through tax
[3090.18] Lee: payers money
[3091.06] Lee: but that's just my opinion
[3093.3] Jack: any views expressed on this show
[3095.22] Jack: are personal
[3096.42] Jack: and they not affect the views of
[3098.1] Jack: others even though
[3099.38] Jack: the majority of us
[3100.66] Jack: fully agree with what he says
[3103.7] Curry: no one asked me to read it
[3106.42] Frank: there was also that
[3107.46] Frank: other day
[3108.9] Frank: it was recently
[3110.66] Frank: being set up
[3111.7] Frank: with the contact tracing
[3114.9] Frank: which they've they've
[3115.78] Frank: just thrown in the bin
[3116.82] Frank: because they realized
[3117.46] Frank: it was stupid
[3118.42] Frank: and they should use the one
[3119.7] Frank: that everyone else
[3120.34] Frank: in the world is using instead
[3122.58] Frank: yeah
[3122.9] Tony: and that's called happen
[3125.7] Tony: oh no that's dating
[3129.62] Tony: sorry
[3132.26] Frank: but yeah so
[3133.78] Frank: yeah another good
[3135.62] Frank: however many million pounds
[3137.62] Frank: thrown on something
[3138.42] Frank: that anyone with any sense
[3139.62] Frank: could have looked at
[3140.5] Frank: at the very beginning and gone
[3141.62] Tony: how much have they spent
[3142.9] Tony: three point something million
[3145.14] UNKNOWN: I don't know
[3146.02] Tony: too much
[3148.18] Lee: way way too much
[3150.26] Lee: way too much
[3154.26] Jack: they're worried about us
[3155.62] Jack: taking planes out the sky
[3158.82] Frank: yeah yeah
[3162.26] Frank: bigger things to worry about
[3163.38] Tony: at the moment
[3163.86] Tony: like they're being planes
[3165.14] Tony: but you know
[3165.62] Tony: wasn't there a video
[3167.06] Tony: the other day
[3167.62] Tony: I didn't watch it
[3168.42] Tony: of a plane flying into
[3170.74] Tony: a quad flying into a
[3172.98] Tony: light aircraft
[3174.98] Tony: and it got munched up
[3176.1] Tony: when it carried on
[3177.06] Tony: and landed or something
[3178.42] Tony: sure
[3178.9] Lee: somebody
[3179.54] Lee: somebody mentioned something
[3180.66] Lee: in the chat about it
[3181.7] Lee: was a drone in a helicopter
[3184.58] Lee: or something
[3185.22] Lee: was it a drone in a helicopter
[3186.42] Lee: yeah somebody
[3187.06] Lee: I saw somebody mentioning it
[3190.42] Frank: but in enlightened news
[3191.94] Frank: but still kind of on the
[3194.26] Frank: manned side of things
[3196.02] Frank: as this weekend
[3198.42] Frank: there is the armchair air show
[3202.1] Frank: that I mentioned
[3203.06] Frank: a couple of weeks ago
[3206.26] Frank: on Saturday
[3207.14] Frank: from two till six
[3208.42] Frank: on YouTube
[3209.78] Frank: a charity
[3210.82] Frank: called Aerobility
[3213.14] Frank: who helped disabled people
[3216.1] Frank: get into the air
[3220.02] Frank: holding a YouTube stream
[3222.66] Frank: yeah from two till six
[3224.66] Frank: with loads of
[3226.5] Frank: onboard footage
[3227.62] Frank: and other kind of unseen
[3229.78] Frank: footage
[3230.26] Frank: from loads of aircraft
[3231.86] Frank: from the past few decades
[3233.46] Frank: from you know
[3234.66] Frank: SR-71s
[3236.34] Frank: to just kind of like
[3238.9] Frank: all sorts of mad aircraft
[3240.18] Frank: that you would probably
[3240.9] Frank: wouldn't see
[3242.1] Frank: on the air show circuit
[3243.22] Frank: even if there wasn't
[3243.86] Frank: an air show circuit
[3244.58] Frank: this year
[3245.62] Frank: they dug out loads of
[3246.66] Frank: competition
[3247.06] Frank: had it done it and stuff
[3248.26] Frank: so yeah
[3249.86] Frank: that's something to look at
[3252.58] Frank: on Saturday
[3254.18] Frank: they look zero
[3255.14] Frank: so just put it in the chat
[3256.42] Frank: trying versus
[3257.22] Frank: yeah definitely
[3259.38] Frank: I would dig out that link
[3261.86] Lee: while we're talking about
[3263.78] Lee: virtual air shows and things
[3265.3] Lee: normally
[3267.38] Lee: something I've noticed
[3268.18] Lee: on my YouTube channel
[3269.3] Lee: because the YouTube channel
[3270.58] Lee: the behavior on it
[3271.54] Lee: has been really different
[3273.14] Lee: in terms of what's been
[3274.1] Lee: really catching people's
[3275.54] Lee: attention over the last three
[3276.66] Lee: months
[3277.06] Lee: funnily enough
[3278.1] Lee: as the previous however many
[3279.54] Lee: years it's been going on
[3280.98] Lee: one of the things
[3281.46] Lee: that I've been noticing
[3282.42] Lee: is that
[3283.06] Lee: and I don't know whether
[3283.7] Lee: you guys have seen it as well
[3284.74] Lee: is that the videos of
[3285.7] Lee: the maiden flights
[3286.74] Lee: or just being out in the field
[3288.42] Lee: with your mates
[3289.46] Lee: with flying stuff
[3290.58] Lee: or with FPV footage
[3292.42] Lee: have got really
[3293.94] Lee: really good traction
[3294.98] Lee: whereas normally
[3296.1] Lee: people go
[3296.74] Lee: oh yeah flies next
[3299.38] Lee: where people are actually
[3300.34] Lee: sitting watching it
[3301.14] Lee: I think partially
[3302.02] Lee: it's because
[3302.98] Lee: we have all been stuck in
[3304.18] Lee: and for those of us
[3305.06] Lee: that do live
[3306.18] Lee: two and a half hour hike
[3308.1] Lee: away from the flying field
[3310.58] Lee: it just
[3311.54] Lee: there is a little part of you
[3313.06] Lee: that wants to watch
[3314.42] Lee: RC aircraft
[3315.38] Lee: or FPV footage
[3318.02] Lee: I think we should all
[3318.82] Lee: be trying to
[3319.86] Lee: anyone with a YouTube channel
[3321.06] Lee: should be trying to put
[3321.94] Lee: more of that FPV
[3323.62] Lee: and line the site footage
[3324.9] Lee: on their stuff
[3325.62] Lee: for people to watch
[3326.74] Lee: so I know particularly
[3327.94] Lee: my friend
[3329.54] Lee: who is disabled
[3330.42] Lee: who can't get out
[3331.54] Lee: because he's in that
[3332.34] Lee: you know that thing
[3332.98] Lee: where the
[3333.7] Lee: like is it vulnerable list
[3335.38] Lee: or whatever it is
[3336.42] Lee: you're not allowed
[3337.06] Lee: to go out at all
[3340.02] Lee: that's it shielded
[3341.22] Lee: because now that
[3341.78] Lee: they're indefinitely
[3342.5] Lee: shielded aren't they
[3343.22] Lee: he got the note to say
[3344.18] Lee: it's not just 12 weeks
[3345.3] Lee: he's kind of got to stay in
[3347.46] Lee: forever
[3348.18] Lee: at the moment
[3349.78] Lee: and he's really missing
[3350.98] Lee: not going out to the field
[3352.5] Lee: and just watch it
[3353.22] Lee: he doesn't fly
[3354.1] Lee: but he loves
[3355.06] Lee: that whole thing
[3357.22] Lee: and there must be loads
[3358.98] Lee: of other pilots
[3359.78] Lee: and people in that same situation
[3361.38] Lee: not maybe in as extreme
[3362.5] Lee: position as that
[3363.38] Lee: but who just miss
[3365.22] Lee: just hearing
[3366.82] Lee: the noises
[3367.7] Lee: and the banter
[3368.82] Lee: and stuff like that
[3369.54] Lee: I must have it
[3370.02] Lee: only to have a search
[3370.98] Lee: from some of my field footage
[3372.42] Lee: and start putting some videos up
[3375.62] Jack: Frank how much trouble
[3377.3] Jack: would I get
[3378.1] Jack: for the ferry video
[3383.98] Jack: it looks worse
[3384.78] Jack: than it was
[3385.98] Frank: oh yeah
[3386.54] Jack: but I mean you literally
[3388.22] Jack: have permission
[3389.42] Tony: yeah you got told
[3390.7] Tony: it was okay
[3392.94] Tony: he's going to put that up
[3394.14] Tony: three years too late
[3396.38] Tony: oh it's outside
[3398.22] Tony: yeah but it was three years ago
[3400.54] Tony: it wasn't three years ago
[3402.3] Tony: I'm at exaggerating
[3403.58] Tony: it was like last year
[3406.22] Tony: but this is your editing skills
[3408.62] Tony: like you go and fly somewhere
[3410.62] Tony: and a year later
[3411.58] Tony: you might or might not
[3413.02] Tony: put the video up
[3415.82] Jack: fine I won't
[3417.1] Tony: just having a dig
[3418.22] Tony: just put it up
[3419.18] Tony: Jack it's fine
[3420.06] Tony: really supportive
[3421.26] Jack: Frank
[3422.54] Curry: drop the chair out
[3426.3] Curry: to add to the point
[3427.34] Curry: but I did offer
[3428.78] Curry: to do the editing
[3430.22] Curry: for your mavic not vavic video
[3432.38] Curry: but all you had to give me
[3434.62] Curry: was a short voiceover
[3436.7] Curry: of what you did
[3438.46] Curry: but you didn't
[3439.66] Jack: arrange your time
[3440.54] Jack: and I'll do it with you
[3442.3] Curry: you don't need to deal with me
[3444.06] Curry: because I don't know
[3444.94] Curry: you just have to describe
[3446.78] Curry: what you did
[3448.62] Curry: what from memory
[3450.78] Curry: yes
[3451.26] Curry: well you write some notes
[3452.46] Curry: if you want
[3454.78] Tony: and you got that back book
[3456.22] Tony: you can go and have a look in
[3458.7] Jack: it was below
[3459.58] Jack: but no
[3462.06] Tony: for god's sake
[3463.1] Tony: I can tell you
[3464.14] Tony: I'll do a voiceover
[3465.5] Tony: if you want
[3466.06] Tony: I know I was there
[3467.82] Tony: why don't you
[3468.54] Curry: as an experiment Jack
[3469.82] Curry: just send all your footage
[3471.58] Curry: to Fiverr
[3473.1] Curry: and find someone that says
[3474.22] Curry: I will edit a epic drone video
[3476.38] Curry: for you
[3476.78] Curry: and see what comes back
[3478.7] Curry: oh my god
[3480.78] Tony: make a good video of the video
[3482.86] Tony: but then that's two videos
[3484.14] Tony: so that'll be two years
[3486.3] Jack: yeah
[3488.06] Jack: so
[3489.2] Jack: don't have a net high
[3490.4] Jack: out there
[3490.72] Tony: 20 23
[3492.56] Tony: Jack's videos are coming out
[3495.44] Jack: it'd be the only source of entertainment
[3498.64] Jack: we'll never leave
[3500.64] Curry: I just thought Jack
[3501.44] Curry: not putting out any videos
[3502.64] Curry: who's winning on the subscriber
[3504.08] Curry: count between Jack and Tony
[3506.08] Tony: I've still got 940
[3509.28] Jack: and I'm on 900
[3511.84] Tony: me then
[3513.76] Tony: yay
[3514.24] Jack: slim lead
[3515.04] Tony: I still can't get to 1000
[3516.72] Tony: it just gets to 940
[3518.24] Tony: and then goes crap
[3520.24] Tony: come some come back
[3521.6] Tony: some go
[3522.32] Tony: some gosh
[3522.96] Tony: just
[3525.2] Frank: every time
[3526.16] Frank: either of you release a video
[3528.64] Frank: you lose subscribers
[3529.92] Frank: and the other one gains some
[3531.36] Tony: yeah pretty much so
[3533.68] Tony: I will release a video this Sunday
[3536.16] Tony: and lose subscribers
[3537.44] Tony: and Jack will gain them
[3542.64] Tony: yes
[3543.84] Tony: I'll get 1000
[3544.88] Tony: you wait and see
[3545.92] Jack: you're not allowed to buy them
[3551.04] Jack: I haven't
[3552.64] Jack: yes everyone I've unsubscribed
[3554.64] Jack: Tony
[3557.12] Tony: you care if you want
[3558.4] Tony: I don't care
[3560.64] Tony: I still want to beat him though
[3562.88] Tony: so
[3568.61] Tony: so the other thing to talk about
[3569.73] Tony: 100 000 subscribers
[3571.73] Tony: how many you've got now paying less
[3573.25] Tony: you've got loads
[3574.05] Tony: haven't you got
[3575.57] Lee: a little
[3576.61] Lee: 26 000
[3578.61] Lee: and didn't change
[3579.89] Lee: something like that
[3582.77] Tony: but you're interesting
[3584.05] Tony: and and teach people stuff
[3585.73] Tony: mine's just
[3586.69] Tony: literally just videos
[3587.81] Tony: and that's it
[3589.25] Frank: very securely a celebrity
[3591.09] Frank: by the advertising standards
[3592.45] Frank: or authorities
[3593.73] Frank: metric
[3594.21] Frank: yeah 100 000
[3595.17] Frank: you're a slim
[3596.69] Frank: are you really
[3599.41] Lee: I wouldn't
[3601.73] Lee: I know something that was with
[3602.85] Lee: 100 000
[3603.65] Lee: I wouldn't
[3604.13] Lee: I definitely wouldn't use that metric
[3606.77] Jack: you know
[3607.33] Jack: you know like we did that video
[3609.49] Jack: where we redid the
[3612.29] Jack: how to fix stuff
[3613.33] Jack: blah blah blah
[3614.77] Lee: and can we talk about that briefly
[3617.17] Lee: because it hasn't got many views
[3619.09] Lee: and so for those of you
[3620.93] Lee: who might have watched
[3622.13] Lee: the Mini Airshow stuff
[3623.57] Lee: there was a segment
[3624.45] Lee: that Jack was doing
[3625.49] Lee: that got a bit crunched
[3626.77] Lee: with all the the timings
[3628.93] Lee: where Jack was talking about
[3630.37] Lee: how to troubleshoot
[3631.17] Lee: and fix stuff
[3633.01] Lee: and Jack and I redid it
[3635.97] Lee: it ended up being about 40 minutes
[3637.57] Lee: didn't it 40 45 minutes
[3638.85] Lee: something like that
[3642.13] Lee: probably more in the style
[3643.41] Lee: of this kind of chatty
[3645.49] Lee: rather than like a normal
[3646.85] Lee: painless 360 video
[3647.97] Lee: because it wasn't heavily edited
[3649.09] Lee: it's just me and Jack
[3649.89] Lee: just having a chat about stuff
[3651.57] Lee: but it is on
[3653.81] Lee: on the Mini Airshow website
[3655.65] Lee: I haven't published it
[3656.45] Lee: on the channel
[3657.33] Lee: but it's but Jack was actually
[3659.57] Lee: talking about
[3660.05] Lee: some really really cool stuff
[3661.73] Lee: about how he fixes multirotors
[3664.77] Lee: and how to go about it
[3666.05] Lee: so if you're interested
[3667.41] Lee: or you're a bit bored
[3668.21] Lee: and you kind of want to
[3669.49] Lee: dip yourself into the world
[3670.93] Lee: of multirotor fixing stuff
[3672.77] Lee: for 45 minutes
[3673.81] Lee: go and have a look
[3674.29] Lee: at the Mini Airshow site
[3675.49] Lee: because it's on there
[3676.53] Lee: actually in the agenda
[3678.37] Lee: in the watch again
[3679.49] Tony: is that on both of your channels
[3681.25] Tony: so you can get more subscribers?
[3684.05] Jack: No
[3685.33] Jack: I don't even think
[3685.89] Jack: my channel's listed in it
[3689.97] Jack: did you like that
[3691.09] Jack: you know the bit
[3691.57] Jack: when you disappeared
[3692.45] Jack: did you like the ongoing commentary
[3694.37] Jack: when you edited it
[3695.65] Jack: yeah I've never heard of it
[3698.21] Lee: yeah so there's one bit
[3699.33] Lee: where my doorbell
[3700.13] Lee: went in the middle right
[3701.09] Lee: because of course
[3701.89] Lee: the postman kind of lurks
[3703.25] Lee: at the bottom of the garden
[3704.53] Lee: waiting for me to start recording
[3705.81] Lee: I mean you guys
[3706.37] Lee: probably have the same thing
[3707.49] Lee: you kind of
[3708.05] Lee: you get in a coma
[3708.77] Tony: Jack arranges people
[3710.37] Tony: to come around
[3711.33] Tony: on a Thursday evening
[3712.61] Tony: I'm actually surprised
[3713.65] Tony: no one's turned up tonight
[3714.85] Tony: it's normally pizza deliveries
[3716.53] Tony: or he's shopping
[3718.61] Lee: yeah it's the same thing
[3719.49] Lee: so in the middle of this
[3723.17] Lee: we've got a really good flow
[3724.37] Lee: going talking about
[3725.33] Lee: I don't know troubleshooting ESCs
[3726.85] Lee: or something
[3728.37] Lee: the thing goes
[3729.09] Lee: so I had to go
[3729.65] Lee: oh hang on Jack
[3730.37] Lee: so I didn't stop the recording
[3731.81] Lee: I put my headphones down
[3733.09] Lee: and pootled off
[3735.01] Lee: and then came back
[3735.81] Lee: and there's Jack sitting there
[3737.01] Lee: with the most angelic look
[3738.29] Lee: on his face
[3738.93] Lee: in that kind of
[3739.73] Lee: I've not been doing anything
[3742.45] Lee: and we picked it up
[3743.57] Lee: and it's only when I edited
[3744.93] Lee: I realised that
[3745.57] Lee: as soon as I walked out the door
[3747.25] Lee: he was just
[3748.13] Lee: he was off on one
[3749.49] Lee: completely off on one
[3751.09] Lee: so it was about five minutes
[3752.37] Lee: of complete rambling craziness
[3755.57] Lee: that I had to get my arse out
[3757.41] Jack: start twerking
[3762.21] Lee: yeah I should have known better really
[3764.45] Lee: but yeah
[3765.73] Lee: but it's only when editing
[3766.93] Lee: I got to that bit
[3767.73] Lee: and I was like
[3769.41] Lee: that's a sin
[3770.21] Lee: watch it
[3771.57] Lee: that might get released
[3772.69] Lee: that might get released
[3773.65] Lee: as a bonus of a
[3776.85] Jack: you were getting monetised
[3778.21] Lee: and that I'd probably get a strike
[3781.41] Lee: of you know
[3781.97] Lee: yeah content
[3783.33] Lee: yeah but now that's really
[3786.21] Tony: when Jay
[3786.85] Tony: did he just disappear
[3787.89] Tony: or did he say goodbye
[3788.69] Tony: I think he got bored
[3790.05] Frank: his internet died
[3791.41] Frank: he's got a yellow light
[3792.45] Frank: on his router
[3794.45] Lee: oh the dreaded yellow light
[3796.45] Lee: he's not on Virgin is he
[3799.17] Tony: mine's white light on Virgin
[3800.93] Tony: if it's good
[3801.73] Tony: and green if it's bad
[3805.33] Curry: yeah I've got that as well
[3806.69] Curry: yeah white light
[3807.49] Curry: is good for some reason
[3808.85] Curry: I think red light's worse
[3812.13] Lee: so we should have all been together
[3813.49] Lee: at the weekend anyway
[3814.53] Lee: at the um at Western Park
[3816.77] Lee: shouldn't we
[3817.49] Lee: we all yeah
[3818.45] Lee: we all missed out on that
[3819.49] Lee: it's everyone going
[3820.45] Lee: on the rescheduled dates
[3822.13] Lee: everyone booked them out
[3825.81] Tony: this October isn't it
[3827.65] Tony: at the moment
[3828.69] Tony: yeah it's going to be cold
[3830.77] Tony: and oh god
[3832.53] Jack: if I have to eat Nutella
[3835.49] Jack: like snuggled up to Frank
[3837.65] Jack: for bodyboard and flight penguins
[3841.01] Jack: whilst our tears
[3842.61] Jack: freeze to our faces
[3844.93] Jack: I'm going to kill
[3846.13] Jack: cook and eat Tony
[3848.85] Frank: what Jack is referring to here
[3850.53] Frank: is a call back
[3851.57] Frank: about three or four years
[3854.53] Frank: back to Ragley Hall
[3856.61] Frank: when there was the British
[3857.81] Frank: FPV Racing Association's
[3859.89] Frank: British Championships
[3861.65] Frank: at Ragley Hall
[3863.65] Frank: we went and attended
[3865.49] Frank: uh and it was really cold
[3869.33] Frank: and really wet
[3870.45] Frank: and miserable
[3871.89] Frank: and everything had gone away
[3874.21] Frank: nothing was flying
[3875.73] Frank: we were just sat in my car
[3877.33] Frank: I was handing out emergency blankets
[3879.33] Frank: because I had a bag of emergency blankets
[3881.01] Frank: because I'm me
[3882.13] Frank: and everyone
[3883.41] Frank: that was the only thing
[3887.73] Frank: it was soaked
[3889.01] Frank: and eating Nutella out the jar
[3891.33] Frank: I think
[3892.37] Tony: oh
[3895.89] Tony: oh yeah I'm definitely going
[3897.41] Tony: you've warmed my cockles
[3899.01] Tony: I'm down there
[3900.85] Frank: and uh Jack had a go
[3902.77] Frank: because they were having a go
[3904.53] Frank: a freestyle kind of thing
[3906.61] Frank: I think
[3907.25] Frank: was why Jack was there
[3909.17] Frank: but no because you had to go
[3910.53] Frank: around the course as well
[3911.49] Frank: for some reason
[3912.13] Frank: I can't
[3912.69] Jack: yeah you had to guide me
[3916.21] Frank: like tell you go left
[3917.73] Frank: go right go up go down
[3919.33] Frank: now you're going backwards
[3921.73] Frank: eventually we got you around the track
[3924.05] Jack: yeah and then I qualified
[3927.17] Jack: lapwise
[3928.13] Jack: and then the next thing
[3929.57] Jack: I got bored
[3930.21] Jack: and just started freestyling
[3931.97] Jack: and they shouted at me
[3934.69] Jack: yeah then they shouted at me
[3936.61] Jack: and oh nightmare
[3941.17] Lee: yeah so the answer is maybe maybe not
[3943.73] Lee: and if we do
[3944.45] Lee: well then we're all going to be wearing wellies
[3946.21] Lee: and and parka coats
[3947.89] Tony: it's going to be cold
[3948.93] Tony: it's going to be horrible
[3950.45] Curry: see what's going to be
[3953.25] Tony: it might be worth
[3954.29] Tony: it might be worth a run up there
[3955.81] Tony: it'd be my birthday
[3957.01] Tony: so you can all wish me happy birthday
[3959.41] Tony: if we do go
[3960.85] Lee: that would be
[3962.45] Lee: it'd just be nice
[3963.17] Lee: to hang out with people
[3964.45] Lee: and you know
[3967.09] Frank: curry house
[3967.81] Frank: near western park
[3969.33] Frank: I'm sure
[3970.69] Tony: now we're talking
[3971.65] Tony: now we're talking
[3974.61] Tony: I'm going now
[3977.17] Tony: where's my back book
[3979.81] Jack: wait you don't need it anymore
[3982.05] Jack: are you going to play hide the sausage
[3985.17] Tony: not for another two weeks
[3987.25] Frank: I'm just thinking in October
[3988.77] Frank: because it will get dark so early
[3990.21] Frank: so they'll have used up the fireworks
[3991.65] Frank: by like six o'clock
[3992.85] Frank: weren't they
[3993.33] Frank: so then we can just go off
[3994.77] Frank: and find a curry house after that
[3996.45] Lee: yeah or they might put on
[3998.05] Lee: some kind of night flying stuff
[3999.49] Lee: which could be quite fun to watch
[4000.93] Lee: because that could be a good laugh
[4002.21] Tony: it's always nice to watch
[4003.57] Tony: the night flying stuff
[4005.89] Tony: we could like
[4006.69] Tony: Jack Jack
[4007.41] Tony: take your fireworks
[4008.45] Tony: get some donation
[4009.41] Tony: and light your nipples
[4011.09] UNKNOWN: yeah
[4012.37] Frank: I will campfire
[4014.77] Tony: and jacket potatoes
[4017.41] Tony: sounds good
[4018.21] Tony: I'm actually want to go now
[4021.33] Jack: will curry attend though
[4023.33] Jack: will curry attend
[4025.41] Jack: can we get a caravan
[4026.85] Jack: at the end of the drive
[4028.53] Jack: soundproof
[4032.37] Jack: you've been in the house for six months
[4034.69] Jack: she'd love to get rid of you
[4036.13] Curry: what's happening around that time
[4039.81] Jack: I'm sorry if he's never going to go to school again
[4042.13] Jack: she'll be too old
[4045.89] Jack: she's got to be you
[4046.77] Frank: I see no problem
[4048.53] Frank: she'll have been employed by for three years
[4050.93] Frank: by the time she gets to leave
[4052.69] Jack: yeah and probably be an auntie
[4057.01] Tony: and if we go
[4060.13] Tony: I should have heard that Jack
[4062.21] Tony: government breeding
[4063.81] Tony: if we go the best thing about going
[4067.33] Tony: is meeting people who watch us
[4071.25] Jack: yeah
[4072.61] Jack: and then apologizing
[4074.29] Tony: and then saying sorry
[4076.13] Tony: this is my friend Jack
[4077.41] Curry: I spent most of my couple of weeks going outside
[4081.97] Curry: trying not to meet people
[4083.25] Curry: and crossing over the streets
[4084.61] Curry: and doing things like that
[4085.65] Curry: it's a bit of a mind shift
[4087.89] Curry: to actually meet people on purpose
[4090.53] Frank: that's a regular time to meet and greet
[4095.33] Frank: at the VIP area in the in the beer tent
[4097.89] Frank: because we know that's not guarded or anything
[4099.73] Frank: and you can just wander in
[4100.69] Frank: so we'll just set our
