[207.89] Frank: So I couldn't get it to arm, and I managed to get it arm, and I couldn't get it to disarm

[214.89] Frank: What it is, I'm using RGPilot
[217.89] Frank: The quad plane version of RGPilot
[221.89] Frank: In the tail sitter configuration
[224.89] Frank: And so, quad plane is like, make sure you read all of this before you consider doing anything about quad plane
[230.89] Frank: And then there's the tail sitter configuration where it's like, make sure you know a lot about the quad plane before you go to the tail sitter
[236.89] Frank: And I've just kind of, yeah, gone, yeah, I've read it, ish
[241.89] Frank: And yeah, turns out that maybe that's not the best way to do it
[244.89] Frank: But, you know
[246.89] Jack: Oh, if they were exciting legislations, you would have been sucking them in all night
[252.89] Frank: Well, I've read them all
[255.89] Frank: It's just... a lot of it doesn't make a lot of sense to me
[259.89] Frank: Oh, so it's normal, isn't it?

[263.89] Curry: Does it say, like they had a highly experimental user-owned risk and stuff like that
[268.89] Curry: It's like, this is all theoretical and no one's been stupid enough to try it yet
[271.89] Frank: A lot of it is saying things like, make sure you don't do any of these modes because they are bad
[277.89] Frank: And then this other bit is like, only use these modes
[281.89] Frank: And those are the same lists, which confuses me slightly
[285.89] Frank: But it turns out, you know
[289.89] Frank: I figured how different could it be from a claim flight B to flight type multi-we knockoff
[298.89] Frank: And I know it's a different branch, but I'm like, how many different ways are there to have settings for flight controllers
[305.89] Frank: And it turns out it's a lot of different ways
[307.89] Curry: God, it's an audio plane
[309.89] Curry: It's horrendous
[311.89] Frank: Yeah, but it's just like a completely different way of thinking about everything
[318.89] Frank: It's like, I mean, to pull it back to something that I can kind of relate to
[326.89] Frank: It's like the first time I ever encountered database software having used spreadsheet software
[332.89] Frank: And it's like, oh yeah, it uses like columns and rows and things
[335.89] Frank: So I understand how this works, and then you try and do stuff with it
[338.89] Frank: It's like, oh, no, this doesn't work how I expect it to work
[340.89] Frank: It's completely different
[342.89] Frank: And it's kind of the same way like, oh yeah, it uses motors and ESCs
[346.89] Frank: So how hard can it be? And it's like, no, no, no, no
[351.89] Frank: You don't understand this at all
[353.89] Frank: Okay
[354.89] Wyntrblue: I feel like there is only enough most of the time
[359.89] Frank: Yeah, so I've rewatched a number of Painless' videos multiple times
[366.89] Frank: I've reread all the documentation multiple times
[371.89] Frank: And I'm still quite lost
[373.89] Frank: But I've managed to get it to arm and to disarm
[376.89] Frank: FailSafe eludes me
[378.89] Frank: Because it being autopilot, it seems to kind of assume that GPS is always going to be fine
[385.89] Frank: So you're always going to want to fail safe to GPS
[388.89] Frank: When I'm trying to do stuff in my room, that's not what I want it to do
[392.89] Frank: But that doesn't seem to be an option
[394.89] Frank: So that's entertaining
[396.89] Curry: I tend to think you should have tried it your first time just with mixes on the transmitter
[402.89] Frank: Oh, I did
[403.89] Curry: Because literally you're just doing like
[405.89] Curry: I did
[406.89] Curry: Did that fly?
[407.89] Frank: No, but that was because I had a motor issue
[409.89] Frank: But then it rained, so I didn't bother going the two and a half hours
[414.89] Tony: It rained, it hasn't rained, is it?
[417.89] Frank: Not in summer
[419.89] Frank: Then I decided to spend the weekend fitting this board instead of trudging out to a rained southern field
[428.89] Frank: For a five hour round trip
[430.89] Jack: So you've kind of just done what you could rather than what you should
[436.89] Frank: So I've got, you know, I can still put it in the mix
[440.89] Curry: Let's get it working in a basic configuration
[442.89] Curry: It rained that week, so you jumped over that and went to a more complicated configuration
[446.89] Curry: Why still have a configuration?
[448.89] Frank: I mean, I can unplug things and plug the other old one back in
[451.89] Frank: And I can also put it into the mode of just manual mode
[454.89] Frank: And that works as I generally expect it to so far
[459.89] Frank: It's just the fail safe bit is scary
[463.89] Frank: I need to remember to make sure that's working before I try and fly it
[467.89] Frank: Because otherwise I know I'm going to just fly it outside of range
[471.89] Curry: One of my friends, he was keen on our new pilot
[474.89] Curry: And he was flying one of his planes
[477.89] Curry: And he had, this is back when we used the 9x original transmitters
[482.89] Curry: And he had like a battery problem
[484.89] Curry: And he's like, I'm just going to swap the battery
[486.89] Curry: What I'll do, I'll put it in circle mode
[488.89] Curry: Got the batteries out, started changing the batteries
[491.89] Curry: And then, oh no, these batteries aren't good
[493.89] Curry: So meantime, it failed safe
[495.89] Curry: But it failed safe, decided it was going to be in stabilized mode
[499.89] Curry: And it just flew off for seven kilometers
[503.89] Curry: And when he got it back, he had the most amazing footage
[506.89] Curry: When on his HD camera, you know those high tensile, very high power cables
[512.89] Curry: He managed to go in between them cleanly
[515.89] Curry: And you could just hear this incredible buzz from the electricity as it went through
[520.89] Curry: But it landed completely safely and he got it back somehow
[524.89] Frank: Well, did you see the report that was out?
[526.89] Frank: Well, not report, but there's like a safety notice that was released by the CIA today
[531.89] Frank: About someone who flew their metrice
[535.89] Frank: And it lost GPS essentially
[538.89] Frank: And went into a manual or stabilized kind of mode
[542.89] Frank: And the pilot didn't understand that was what was happening
[546.89] Frank: Or was too nervous about flying it manually
[548.89] Frank: And so I just kept hitting return to home
[552.89] Frank: And it just sort of disappeared into the distance
[554.89] Frank: And crashed into a residential area down the road
[558.89] Frank: And then his next response was to try and fly another one
[562.89] Frank: That was exactly the same
[564.89] Frank: And that had a similar problem
[567.89] Frank: So the CIA have released a report saying don't do that
[570.89] Frank: That's probably bad
[573.89] Wyntrblue: People who fly that kind of thing really need to know how to fly a drone in like a manual mode
[579.89] Wyntrblue: It should be compulsory, you know
[583.89] Wyntrblue: You can't fly this until you can fly a tiny whoop backwards

[1146.89] Frank: What is a public channel? What does public channel mean?
[1151.89] Frank: Good question, BBC
[1155.89] Wyntrblue: So you pay your tax money to the government every month
[1160.89] Wyntrblue: And they allow you to watch TV
[1163.89] Wyntrblue: It's just fake wine
[1165.89] Wyntrblue: So you get like a public channel license
[1169.89] Wyntrblue: No, public channel, so when you power on your goggles and your air unit or vista or whatever it is
[1176.89] Wyntrblue: It will jump straight to the public channel until it works out where it's supposed to be
[1182.89] Frank: So is this Race 6-ish?
[1187.89] Wyntrblue: No
[1190.89] Wyntrblue: No
[1193.89] Wyntrblue: R6, so the public channel is DJI channel 8, which is almost Race 6
[1204.89] Wyntrblue: So it powers on effectively on Race 6
[1207.89] Wyntrblue: So if you're flying with analog pilots, make sure to be aware
[1212.89] Wyntrblue: And then the only DJI channel that actually matches a known Race band is Race 2
[1219.89] Wyntrblue: That's the only one which has exactly the same frequency
[1223.89] Frank: So otherwise it's what, 5 or 10 megahertz off of it or something?
[1227.89] Wyntrblue: Yeah, pretty much
[1229.89] Frank: Because that's all I've...
[1232.89] Frank: Obviously with like Mini Airshow and stuff, I've been keeping a close eye on any mentions of DJI stuff
[1238.89] Frank: Playing along with analog stuff in any of the racing or anything like that
[1242.89] Frank: And of course the racing is back next week, weekend, Laxston I think is the first of the BDRA races
[1249.89] Frank: So the racing championships are back on as of next weekend
[1257.89] Frank: But yeah, the general consensus seems to be don't mix and match analog and DJI for racing at the moment
[1266.89] Tony: No, someone asked me if I'm going to put another unit in my X-Class, then I'm like no
[1272.89] Tony: Because I've been invited to California again, well, I've been invited to another X-Class event
[1277.89] Tony: Which is going to be in California next year, next November
[1282.89] Tony: I don't think they're doing anything this year
[1285.89] Tony: And I'm pretty sure, you know, if you've got more than a couple of year, it's not going to be good having analog and the HD at the same time
[1297.89] Tony: So probably not going to put it in my X-Class
[1301.89] Tony: But I think I'm going to get a new one and put it in my little filming drone, you know, my little...
[1309.89] Tony: Cinewoop thing
[1311.89] Curry: Nice master
[1313.89] Tony: Yeah, put it in there, especially for filming indoors
[1317.89] Tony: Make the space better
[1319.89] Tony: Yes, because I want to test it indoors as well because apparently it's really good indoors
[1324.89] Wyntrblue: It is, so you know that thing called multipath thing?
[1328.89] Tony: What's that on HD? I've never seen it on HD
[1332.89] Tony: Is it just literally just go?
[1334.89] Wyntrblue: It's gone, you'll never see it again
[1337.89] Wyntrblue: So the killer quads guys in the Midlands, they do an event in the winter called the Winter Whoops
[1343.89] Wyntrblue: And I flew a Cinewoop there and it's a really high multipath environment
[1348.89] Wyntrblue: It's like an indoor gym thing
[1350.89] Wyntrblue: And yeah, you get massive amounts of interference
[1354.89] Wyntrblue: And I was flying my Cinewoop around and nothing, nothing at all
[1360.89] Wyntrblue: Everyone else was just like, it's not fair
[1363.89] Tony: Well, I've still got a...
[1366.89] Tony: Sorry, I've still got... Oh God, I've just had it in my head and it's gone now
[1371.89] Tony: Clearview
[1373.89] Tony: I've still got a Clearview base station and that works pretty good inside
[1377.89] Tony: But still, you still get reflections and multipath in, but not as much as just wearing a goggles
[1384.89] Tony: So yeah, it'd be nice to try indoors with...
[1387.89] Tony: That's probably what I'll get and put it in one of them
[1391.89] Wyntrblue: You won't regret it at all

[2309.33] Curry: Still people don't have any contemplation of what this means

[2317.33] Frank: I think there is certainly a kind of barrier to entry thing
[2321.33] Frank: There's a very low barrier to entry to flying a Mavic
[2325.33] Frank: And there's a slightly higher barrier of entry
[2329.33] Frank: To flying an FPV quad in a place that you've picked
[2335.33] Frank: And there's a slightly higher barrier of entry

[2340.33] Frank: And that's kind of what I see is the big difference

[2348.33] Frank: And I think that's kind of the big divide
[2350.33] Frank: That I see between the three groups is that
[2353.33] Frank: The kind of Bolsa and Dope have the club sites
[2361.33] Frank: They've got their agreements all in place
