[355.76] Curry: It'd be useful to get Greg back on because I have a question for him. I flew today with something
[361.2] Curry: and it goes some way of answering when people talk about antenna diversity and stuff.
[369.68] Curry: I've heard it lots of times why people say, hey, why don't you just put two antennas
[375.2] Curry: on the transmitting one, i.e. the VTX? Of course, you say that would be silly because that would
[380.48] Curry: create a multiparthing. This is what I flew today. It's from AKK and they've basically
[389.12] Curry: come out with something that surely would produce multiparthing. There is a right hand and a left
[394.88] Curry: hand polarized antenna. That sounds bad to start with because surely you're already multiparthing.
[403.28] Curry: I don't know if the idea is... It's no special concept on the goggle.
[414.4] Curry: Anything else? So the idea is you go in such an environment where everything's bouncing
[420.88] Curry: and then you get the bounce stuff from the left hand coming back at you. I don't know.
[425.12] Curry: I tried it out today and it seemed worse than a regular one to me. It wasn't a great success.
[430.96] Curry: Also, when making a 20 mil board with two antennas, if you have them at this angle,
[438.32] Curry: the props hit them. It's the most weirdest thing ever. I don't know what they're trying to do.
[447.36] Frank: That is really strange. I mean, I'm just... Because right hand plus left hand equals linear.
[454.32] Frank: So I think, pretty sure. But does that mean that they're trying to be like,
[461.2] Frank: well, if you've got 25 milliwatts on that one and 25 milliwatts on that one,
[465.36] Frank: you're still technically within the 25 milliwatt.
[468.96] Frank: So you can run 50? But you're actually running 50.
[473.44] Curry: I'm unconvinced by it. So let's put it this way.
[476.72] Tony: So you have a left hand on you and a right hand on your goggle then?
[480.72] Curry: No. As far as I can tell, it's not designed to fly with any special setup on the goggle.
[486.08] Curry: So I had the normal patch and a right hand polarized antenna on my goggles, as I normally would.
[493.04] Curry: And as I was flying out, you could see it. You know where you get that pulsing?
[498.96] Curry: You can see the blue in the clouds and you get this pulsing there. It's like,
[503.28] Curry: this is already multiparthing and we're in the middle of an open field
[507.04] Curry: because it's got two antennas that are both transmitting on opposite
[510.8] Curry: things and still are being picked up. It's a weird thing.

[671.31] Frank: And as much as I like the smell of super chat, I think maybe it's time for some new motors and ESCs.
[677.31] Frank: So I've ordered them from hobby RC and got them on the floor down there.

[2889.66] Curry: And then he's got a field right out to how he can do it.

[2921.98] Curry: stabilise, it turned upside down and myself perfectly in inverted flight.

[2929.58] Curry: I'm no person to talk about, iNav.

[2933.5] Curry: Yeah, it's my auto inversion mode, which I didn't actually mean to do.
[2938.46] Curry: Seemed all right.
[2941.41] Curry: I'm not sure if I fixed it actually, because I want to try it again, because there's sort of...
[2945.97] Curry: Something went wrong under full throttle and then the motor didn't respond anymore
[2950.29] Curry: and I had to glide it down and then the motor was okay.
[2953.41] Curry: So it's like, oh, I'll try flying it again, it'll probably be fine.
[2957.17] Curry: And fix the iNav problem yet, don't know, can't remember.
[2959.89] Curry: That'd be fun to spy on it in both ways.
[2962.21] Wynne: So that's the only thing with iNav.
[2965.25] Wynne: I think that it's got a lot of things that you need to set up.
[2968.69] Wynne: So for someone, a novice coming into it, it could find it extremely difficult
[2975.81] Wynne: to try and get it going just to chuck a plane up in the air.
[2979.17] Wynne: But when you do, it works.
[2981.01] Wynne: It really does work.
[2982.13] Lurgy: It looks surprisingly like Betaflight, just to con you into thinking it's like Betaflight.
[2988.05] Lurgy: Yeah.
[2989.73] Lurgy: But it is a bit fiddly.
[2991.01] Curry: And Painless was here a couple of weeks ago and he was talking about the sort of the old school,
[2997.65] Curry: which is like a little...
[2999.17] Curry: Have I got one on the shelf?

[3008.08] Curry: For example, you would get something like this for podcasters.
[3012.0] Curry: You can't hear.

[3018.72] Curry: And this is half a replacement one.
[3020.56] Curry: And it's got like about 50 million servo connectors,

[3024.8] Curry: So you can cock it up non-end and blow stuff up.
[3028.24] Curry: But this was the old school of doing things.
[3030.24] Curry: Things like the vector, things like the storm, other stuff.
[3035.28] Curry: And it was literally just you put it in your plane,
[3037.44] Curry: you can actually let me servos.
[3039.36] Curry: And it would have modes like Stabilize and RTH and stuff like that.
[3043.04] Curry: And you wouldn't have to really think about it.
[3045.28] Curry: It would generally work.
[3046.08] Curry: There was a little tiny bit of tuning.
[3047.92] Curry: It was mostly just that gained a little bit high.
[3051.44] Curry: If it started flying along and went like this,
[3054.08] Curry: it's like turning down for Stabilize.
[3055.84] Curry: And that was it.
[3056.72] Curry: That's all you did.
[3057.84] Curry: And I kind of like those because they're easy.
[3060.48] Curry: And I don't have to fiddle them out with them.
[3062.96] Curry: But there's not many of them going these days.
[3064.88] Curry: It's all now iNav's there.
[3066.48] Curry: It's kind of taken over.
[3068.96] Curry: It feels like there should be like somebody needs to embed iNav into something
[3074.24] Curry: and give it a nice sort of easier, nicer interface
[3077.28] Curry: where you just like plug this in here and we'll sort it all out for you.
[3081.12] Wynne: Yeah, yeah.
[3081.76] Wynne: Yeah, I tend to find that.
[3084.96] Wynne: What I liked about iNav is the fact that you can just chuck it
[3088.96] Wynne: and it'll literally take off itself through your hand
[3095.52] Wynne: until you take over the controls.
[3097.28] Wynne: And then you're the pilot then, you know.
[3101.04] Wynne: So I like that side of things where it helps you.
[3106.24] Wynne: It helps you.
[3107.12] Wynne: But to get to that stage, it's so complicated
[3110.08] Wynne: just to set up on the bench.
[3111.92] Frank: I've seen multiple autonomously guided lawn darts
[3117.92] Frank: that would suggest that, yeah, the setup is a tricky bit.
[3122.24] Wynne: Yeah, you get it wrong and you've got a problem.
[3129.44] Curry: Sorry, I'll just go quick.
[3131.92] Curry: So the thing that got me the first time is,
[3133.6] Curry: like with any previous autopilot, you sort of fly it
[3138.4] Curry: and then what you do is you do your trims.
[3140.96] Curry: Do you remember trims?
[3142.08] Curry: People who just fly quads.
[3144.56] Curry: Those are these things on the radio
[3145.84] Curry: where you gently check the servos and it's different.
[3149.52] Curry: So you get it all trimmed out and you'd land it
[3152.24] Curry: and then you'd either do something to the autopilot
[3154.24] Curry: or you'd turn it off at that point and it would say,
[3156.24] Curry: okay, I've remembered your trimming positions.
[3158.64] Curry: This is central.
[3162.48] Curry: On iNav, yeah, those are them.
[3164.48] Curry: Although you've got this thing called auto trim now,
[3167.2] Curry: it used to be that if you tried trimming your plane,
[3170.32] Curry: it's like, no, you can't do that.
[3172.08] Curry: You have to be in 1500 U6 in the middle
[3175.52] Curry: or something's gone wrong.
[3176.64] Curry: Now you can put it in auto trim mode
[3178.32] Curry: and basically you try and hold it in the air
[3179.92] Curry: while auto trims on and basically you have to hold it
[3183.92] Curry: on your stick straight and it's like,
[3186.64] Curry: I think you need that over there and this over here
[3190.96] Curry: and we'll call that about level
[3192.48] Curry: and then you sort of save that and it goes again
[3194.24] Curry: so you don't have to fiddle with it.
[3195.36] Curry: But otherwise, it was like, don't trim it,
[3197.76] Curry: correct it mechanically.
[3199.2] Curry: That balances it out for you.
[3200.8] Curry: So it's like, hang on, I'll just unplug the horn
[3204.88] Curry: and I'll twist it in a bit and do stuff.
[3207.6] Curry: It was all a bit more hassle.
[3209.44] Curry: But this is, you know, it's a free and open source project
[3213.6] Curry: and people put up with an awful lot more
[3216.96] Curry: to do things on the cheap, don't they?
[3219.92] Tony: I love wings when they're flying perfect,
[3222.72] Tony: when there's no wind on a summer evening.
[3226.32] Tony: Apart from that, I'm just like, oh my God,
[3228.32] Tony: there's too much pissing over here.
[3230.0] Lurgy: But if you're just doing that, you only need a receiver.
[3233.28] Lurgy: There's not even any point in having a flight controller in it.
[3235.6] Tony: Oh, no, no, no, totally.
[3237.52] Lurgy: But what I was going to say is I've basically now
[3239.92] Lurgy: got to that stage of doing the auto trim
[3242.08] Lurgy: and I did actually buy another battery to have two flights
[3245.76] Lurgy: so I could do an auto trim and have a flight.
[3248.24] Lurgy: But unfortunately, the first landing was a bit hard
[3250.56] Lurgy: and popped the battery out.
[3252.24] Lurgy: So I ended up not saving the settings and having to go again.
[3255.92] Lurgy: But yeah, the first and then other launches I've done.
[3261.12] Lurgy: I don't know how much you heard,
[3262.08] Lurgy: but so I've not done too much on the jet.
[3264.08] Lurgy: I'm still sort of testing and doing bits.
[3266.32] Lurgy: But there's a few, quite a few videos of the wing,
[3269.36] Lurgy: actually, on Lurgy 1 is my channel.
[3273.52] Lurgy: I think most people in the chat probably subscribed anyway.
[3278.56] Lurgy: But yeah, I know.
[3279.28] Lurgy: I've just followed painless, basically,
[3281.84] Lurgy: and done all the little settings and on the Wiki

[3287.76] Lurgy: climb before return to home and things like that,
[3290.16] Lurgy: and reset all those levels.
[3291.52] Lurgy: And I've not tried absolutely everything yet,
[3294.64] Lurgy: but most of it seems to be working out as it should.
