[1050.42] Frank: I decided to get some new ESCs and new motors.
[1054.42] Frank: They've arrived, but I haven't installed them yet,

[1058.42] Frank: Then, hopefully, it will be ready for another quick hover test.

[1150.42] Frank: but I didn't get on very well with VR,
[1153.42] Frank: so I was determined to finish it,
[1155.42] Frank: but I could only play it in short sections before...

[1164.42] Frank: But also, it's a really non-linear storyline,

[1176.42] Frank: But I think Carrie's been out flying
[1179.42] Frank: and had a similar level of success to Tony.

[1199.42] Curry: and I did a couple of batteries where I was just showing VTX power,
[1202.42] Curry: and this was using my Nazgul 5,
[1204.42] Curry: which is pretty fast, pretty nice quad,
[1206.42] Curry: and I thought, I'm going to turn the GoPro on,
[1208.42] Curry: and I'm going to zip it about.
[1210.42] Curry: And where I am, I go up in this field,
[1212.42] Curry: and there's overhanging branches,
[1214.42] Curry: and you know it's good fun to get under there and do stuff.
[1217.42] Curry: So I was doing that,
[1219.42] Curry: and there's a couple of branches where you can't quite see it,
[1222.42] Curry: and you have to use your memory of it,
[1225.42] Curry: but the Nazgul's doing quite a bit faster than the normal toothpicks.
[1229.42] Curry: So I was going along, and I hit that branch, and it goes,
[1232.42] Curry: and it does the old, lands in the bush.
[1235.42] Curry: So I got the quad back, and it was all fawn bushes.
[1239.42] Curry: So I got that, but I use an individual battery bank beeper,
[1244.42] Curry: because I'm swapping that between them,
[1246.42] Curry: and that had fallen out.
[1248.42] Curry: So I could hear this beep, beep, and I can't see it.
[1252.42] Curry: And honestly, it's literally like,
[1255.42] Curry: if the beeping was right in front of you,
[1257.42] Curry: you'll swear it was there, but you can't see it.
[1260.42] Curry: And there's so many little layers of,
[1262.42] Curry: you know, it's not even earth,
[1264.42] Curry: it's just like compressed different layers of leaves and stuff,

[1283.42] Curry: But then I was like, brilliant, I'll go fly again,
[1286.42] Curry: because it's nothing wrong with the quad.
[1288.42] Curry: And I was flying it around, and you know that thing about
[1290.42] Curry: if you crash in a place, you have to go back there,
[1293.42] Curry: you mustn't be scared, because you'll never do it.
[1296.42] Curry: So I did it, but I went in the reverse,
[1298.42] Curry: and I hit the same branch, and I crashed again,
[1302.42] Curry: and it wasn't so deep that time.
[1304.42] Curry: So I got the quad back, and I thought, you know what,
[1306.42] Curry: let's forget that quad, I think we're destined to fail there.
[1309.42] Curry: So I went over to do my other tests, I've got a baby ritelle,
[1313.42] Curry: I put it on the little lau free.
[1315.42] Curry: So I did a flight on that one, and that was fine.
[1318.42] Curry: And I was using the same beeper to put on it,
[1320.42] Curry: and I put it on, and we did another flight.
[1322.42] Curry: And I was going sort of 500 odd meters,
[1326.42] Curry: which put that into legal terms, 400 feet or whatever it is,
[1329.42] Curry: out really low, no problem.
[1331.42] Curry: So I came back, it was 100 meters of myself,
[1333.42] Curry: and I punched up, so I was quite high,
[1335.42] Curry: because I wanted to look at the sun just to check how the camera was.
[1338.42] Curry: And during that, I sort of flipped around and came back around,
[1341.42] Curry: and it just said, RX loss on my screen.
[1343.42] Curry: And I was like, well, that's weird.
[1345.42] Curry: And I was expecting the signal to come back,
[1347.42] Curry: like it was just a, must have been a momentary glitch,
[1350.42] Curry: and nothing happened.
[1351.42] Curry: I was, you know, sometimes your brain doesn't work quite as fast
[1354.42] Curry: as you wanted to.
[1355.42] Curry: So I'm sort of, if it was like dropping for half an hour,
[1358.42] Curry: it would have been 15 minutes saying, that's peculiar, isn't it?
[1361.42] Curry: I wonder why that's happening, before I thought, you know,
[1363.42] Curry: I should try disarming and rearming and see if I can get it back.
[1366.42] Curry: So I did that, and it said, it went to armed,
[1369.42] Curry: and I punched, but it was so close to the ground, it hit it,
[1372.42] Curry: an instant, like, static on the screen.
[1375.42] Curry: I was like, oh, that's okay.
[1377.42] Curry: But never mind, I thought, it's in the middle of a field,
[1379.42] Curry: the grass is like four foot high, but I've got that beeper.
[1382.42] Curry: Except what I think happened is that beeper was beeping for so damn long,
[1387.42] Curry: while I was trying to find it out of the buried ground,
[1389.42] Curry: that the battery had run out.
[1391.42] Curry: So I got there, and I couldn't hear a thing,
[1394.42] Curry: and I had no battery plugged in, and a quad, a three inch quad,
[1398.42] Curry: in a lot of area.
[1400.42] Curry: And I went back through the DVR footage,
[1403.42] Curry: and sort of worked out approximately where I was,
[1405.42] Curry: and I started walking in the direction I thought it would be.
[1409.42] Curry: And I was very lucky that the battery had in fact stayed in,
[1412.42] Curry: and the motors were beaking in.
[1414.42] Curry: So I just heard this very little, you hear that?
[1418.42] Curry: And it was like completely upside down in the grass,
[1420.42] Curry: so I wasn't getting any signal from it.
[1423.42] Curry: We've got it back now, but there's a slight problem.
[1426.42] Curry: If you look at this arm, it's not supposed to do that.
[1429.42] Curry: So that has just broken there.
[1431.42] Curry: So that's a new frame there needed.
[1435.42] Curry: I got the quad back, but the beeper, we don't know what happened to it.
[1438.42] Curry: So after all that effort and getting my hands all cut up,
[1441.42] Curry: retrieving the beeper, I've lost the beeper on a separate crash,
[1445.42] Curry: because it ran out of battery.
[1446.42] Curry: It's kind of ironic to lose a beeper that basically told you where it is.
[1451.42] Curry: But, you know, these things happen, at least got the rest of it back.
[1455.42] Frank: I've heard you like beepers.
[1457.42] Frank: Let me put a beeper on your beeper.
[1459.42] Curry: Yeah.
[1460.42] Curry: Yeah.

[1473.42] Curry: and then you don't have a problem with it running out of battery,
[1475.42] Curry: because all the time you've plugged it in, it's charging,
[1478.42] Curry: and if the battery comes out, it will start beeping.

[1481.42] Curry: It's only because when I'm reviewing stuff,
[1484.42] Curry: I tend to sort of move around to quad that I do this,
[1487.42] Curry: because it's just, you know, I can just rubber band it to the battery,

[2094.42] Curry: because I got this thing, Hobbyking,
[2096.42] Curry: back when we used to use Hobbyking,

[2100.42] Curry: It was this very small fiberglass frame, fiberglass,
[2105.42] Curry: which you had to like assemble
[2107.42] Curry: and it had these little 2S 1804 motors or something.
[2114.42] Curry: It was just because I had it at the same time
[2116.42] Curry: I had my DJ 450
[2120.42] Curry: and they didn't have the mini quad in between then.

[2125.42] Curry: I sort of FPV'd it and I changed over so many things.

[2563.42] Curry: And then it took several hours for Jack to go into deep storage
[2567.42] Curry: through all these various porn hard disks and stuff until he could find that.

[2576.42] Curry: and we didn't really have an explanation or a timeline.
[2581.42] Curry: So, yeah, it took a while because we had Jack's footage,
[2585.42] Curry: then I needed to get Jack to do a voiceover,
[2588.42] Curry: which I had to capture from me asking him stuff over Discord
[2593.42] Curry: and then recording it on my computer.
[2596.42] Curry: And then the amount of sound edits go into the hundreds
[2601.42] Curry: because there's only a certain amount of times people will put up with,

[2613.42] Curry: If you look at the edits on the sound, it's literally,

[2991.47] Frank: What Winterblue was just saying was that the FCC has fined Hobbyking 2.8 million dollars

[3001.47] Frank: But I know that there's definitely a precedent for that in the UK as well,
[3006.47] Frank: because I believe Radio C had a similar problem with the Ofcom.
[3013.47] Frank: Because Ofcom generally don't really care about what you're actually broadcasting.
[3018.47] Frank: They're more interested about the dealers of such equipment.
[3022.47] Frank: And so when it says, when they're on a listing, it says, you know, you can do a million watts, whatever.
[3029.47] Frank: They're not too happy about that.
[3031.47] Frank: And they will occasionally make an example of people selling that kind of...
[3036.47] Curry: Do you think in your super knowledge base as man of all knowing stuff,
[3043.47] Curry: is Ofcom or the FCC okay if basically the BTX comes locked but can be unlocked?
[3052.47] Frank: That's the entire reason for locking BTXs.
[3055.47] Curry: So then the owners become the user and it's their fault instead of the actual distributor.

[3064.47] Frank: That's why, you know, with the CBS stuff, you have to go through all the FAF with unlocking it.
[3071.47] Frank: With the Immersion RC stuff, you got to have the God mode or whatever it is, the advanced God mode on the wand to be able to unlock it.
[3078.47] Frank: That's why they do all that is so that the hardware is legal to sell and isn't going to get people into trouble.

[3089.47] Tony: Because if I had all my DJI kit and I run it legally, which I do in the UK, I wouldn't bother with it if I had to run it legally.

[3113.47] Curry: Yanks ago said he was like he had meetings with Ofcom and stuff.
[3116.47] Curry: And one of the things he tried to do was suggest like a 200 milliwatt limit raising from 25 because you can do an awful lot on 200.
[3124.47] Curry: But 25 is that thing where it's not about range, but it's easy to get knocked out by something else if it exists.
[3132.47] Curry: But they weren't having it. They weren't even going to budge a milliwatt on that at all.
[3137.47] Curry: So we're still stuck on a very low wattage over here in the UK.
[3141.47] Curry: But yeah, I think the US, if you've got your amateur radio like operator license, which is like the first stage of it, then you can go to a thousand milliwatts.
[3152.47] Tony: I think they should look into it again a bit more if you're in the middle of nowhere.
[3157.47] Tony: I'm happy. I was happy with signal flying, flying close to you, racing and stuff, 25 milliwatts.
[3164.47] Tony: Perfect. You can get loads of people on it and everyone gets a good picture.
[3169.47] Tony: But if you're in the middle of nowhere and you want to do something that I did on my last video, you can get anywhere and it would just be pants.
[3179.47] Tony: And like who's in the middle of nowhere doing it, using that? No one.
[3185.47] Curry: Yeah, it was one of the things I want to talk about with our OpenHD guest because, of course, they're not using analog video.
[3193.47] Curry: They're using essentially a Wi-Fi link. Does this mean all bets are off and you can do what you like?

[3203.47] Frank: I mean, this is kind of this perennial question I've wanted to know for years, which is like at what point do you draw the line between digital and analog?
[3213.47] Frank: At what point do you get to use the whole spectrum of radio that's allowed for Wi-Fi and how far can it go?
[3226.47] Frank: I don't even I don't know the kind of legal side of that at all, whether it's, you know, is it specifically the Wi-Fi technology that you have to license to be able to use that or that bandwidth?
[3240.47] Frank: Or is it a technical specification that you have to meet? Or I don't know any any side of that.
[3246.47] Frank: If anyone does know anything about that, get in touch. We'd like to know more.
