[0.0] Curry: Welcome to Let's Drone Out, the original and best drone themed podcast.
[5.0] Curry: We record the show live on the Thursday night on youtube.com forward slash Let's Drone Out
[10.0] Curry: and our lovely patrons help with the editing costs. These are...
[13.0] Curry: Wacky Wes
[14.0] Curry: Mikey Dread
[15.0] Curry: Art Faulkner
[17.0] Curry: Carlos Campos
[19.0] Curry: Thank you
[20.0] Jack: Hello and welcome to Let's Drone Out.
[54.45] Jack: Tonight we have Greg from Menis RC
[59.45] Jack: Hello everyone
[61.45] Jack: We've got Painters 360 for half the show
[64.45] Lee: Bonjour
[66.45] Jack: We've got Andrew slash Frank
[69.45] Jack: Good evening
[71.45] Jack: Everyone's favourite curry kitten
[73.45] Jack: Hello
[75.45] Jack: And we will have N.J. in about five minutes
[80.45] Jack: Hello, we will magically appear and I'm bright until I fly
[85.45] Jack: Welcome to the show
[87.45] Lee: Where's Greg gone?
[90.45] Lee: Oh, he's back there
[91.45] Lee: Alright, okay
[92.45] Lee: Was it one of those where you do that drink?
[95.45] Lee: Yeah
[96.45] Lee: Ayyyy
[98.45] Jack: Right
[100.45] Jack: Apparently we've got a world exclusive from old men
[104.45] Jack: There's a long story between Painters and Menis
[108.45] Jack: Painters I think asked for something and then
[111.45] Jack: he tried to make it
[113.45] Jack: and then you guys tell the story, go
[120.45] Lee: So, bearing in mind we've got an hour, we can probably tell the slightly longer version of this
[126.45] Lee: Greg, do you want to kick it off and explain how this idea came about
[131.45] Lee: and we'll kind of work up to the...
[133.45] Lee: Okay
[135.45] Greg: Alright, so
[136.45] Greg: Western Park, we all love it, don't we?
[139.45] Greg: And for a couple of years running
[143.45] Greg: I'm going to go to Western Park, meet up with Lee, we have a little chat
[149.45] Greg: Have a pint
[151.45] Greg: A pint, and we discuss ideas and things that the hobby needs
[157.45] Greg: and Lee came up with a really good idea
[163.45] Greg: So this was a long time ago
[166.45] Lee: This was summer 2018, this is how long ago, this is two years ago
[171.45] Lee: Two years, yeah
[173.45] Greg: So yeah, Lee had this idea and we discussed it, I liked the idea
[178.45] Greg: It took me a while to sort of warm to it and sort of come up with how it was going to...
[186.45] Greg: how we were going to execute it
[188.45] Greg: and then started working on it
[192.45] Lee: Shall I explain the problem that I've got?
[196.45] Lee: The problem that I've got as a wing flyer
[199.45] Lee: is that every time, and those of you that watch the channel and watch me build stuff
[203.45] Lee: we have these wonderful, sleek, super-duper wings
[206.45] Lee: This one's actually got crossfire in it
[209.45] Lee: and then what we do is we stick an antenna on the top of it like that
[215.45] Lee: We can all stick it out the bottom
[217.45] Lee: or you can, you can try to
[219.45] Lee: but every one of these super-duper sleek models that you make
[222.45] Lee: we end up doing this
[224.45] Lee: Now of course this is a Menace antenna, hello Greg
[227.45] Lee: but this is what we end up doing
[229.45] Lee: and I said to Greg, hang on a minute, there's got to be a better way
[233.45] Lee: for fixed wing to have an FPV antenna
[238.45] Lee: that's aerodynamic, that doesn't look like a lollipop stick
[243.45] Lee: stuck out the top of your wing
[246.45] Lee: or plane or whatever it is for fixed wing
[248.45] Lee: and I said I've had this idea
[251.45] Lee: can we not make it so that the antenna can be sunk
[256.45] Lee: so it's flat against the wing and have some kind of aerodynamic shell
[260.45] Lee: that goes over the top
[262.45] Lee: and Greg went
[264.45] Lee: yeah we could
[266.45] Lee: and then carried on sitting the plane
[269.45] Lee: so fast forward to summer last year
[276.45] Lee: 2019 because of course before the world exploded
[279.45] Lee: so we sat there again having another pint
[281.45] Lee: and I said to Greg, Greg do you remember that idea we had
[285.45] Lee: I pitched two, the other one was someone else did it
[288.45] Lee: I said we had this idea and we talked about it
[291.45] Lee: have you managed to do anything on it
[293.45] Lee: and Greg went very quiet and sipped his pint
[296.45] Lee: and I said do you realise there's no antennas on the market
[299.45] Lee: specifically built for fixed wing
[302.45] Lee: because they're all like this
[304.45] Lee: this is what we have to do, we have to stick, we have to have a lollipop
[307.45] Lee: I want something that's aerodynamic, it's like a little bubble
[310.45] Lee: and then I don't need to remember but
[313.45] Lee: an FRS guy came out with something called the Rover
[316.45] Lee: which was a tricopter
[318.45] Lee: and it's like a white and orange thing
[324.45] Lee: and bloody hell what they did is they put the antenna
[328.45] Lee: underneath it on the belly so when it's flying above you
[331.45] Lee: the antenna is actually pointing down towards you
[334.45] Lee: so I sent Greg a picture of this
[337.45] Lee: I set a picture when I was doing the review
[339.45] Lee: and I just went Greg this is what we're talking about
[342.45] Lee: but it's not aerodynamic
[344.45] Lee: and Greg took another sip of his pint
[349.45] Lee: and went I'll think about it
[352.45] Lee: anyway fast forward to the end of last year
[355.45] Lee: this is how long it's been going on
[357.45] Lee: Greg starts working on this
[359.45] Lee: because the challenge of course is that
[361.45] Lee: not only have you got the antenna that sticks out like this
[364.45] Lee: you've also got all the gubbins underneath the antenna
[367.45] Lee: that you've got to, how do you get
[370.45] Lee: neatly from a sunken-in antenna onto your VTX
[374.45] Lee: and went through loads of iterations, loads of testing
[378.45] Lee: at Christmas it looked like it was going to be out for Easter
[383.45] Lee: do you remember this Greg?
[385.45] Lee: when we thought it was Easter
[387.45] Lee: so much so I actually put it in an article
[390.45] Lee: that I was writing for a magazine
[392.45] Lee: because we're like oh it'll be out for Easter
[394.45] Lee: it'll be fine because Greg's like I'm nearly there
[396.45] Lee: I've got the designs, it's a polycarbonate shell
[399.45] Lee: it's aerodynamics all going to be great brilliant brilliant
[401.45] Lee: just got to get the samples in
[403.45] Lee: and then if it's not perfect I'll tweak it
[405.45] Lee: and we'll get the final ones in
[407.45] Lee: and then Covid happened
[409.45] Lee: China closed, the world fell apart
[413.45] Lee: and then suddenly what's a three week cycle
[415.45] Lee: to do a change and a check
[418.45] Lee: became a three month cycle
[420.45] Lee: so the first lot came in about April?
[423.45] Lee: was it something like that that came in the first lot?
[426.45] Greg: I think it was February-ish
[429.45] Greg: we had the first samples
[431.45] Greg: off of the injection mold tool
[434.45] Lee: that was it
[435.45] Lee: and then you tested them
[437.45] Lee: and they weren't up to your standard
[439.45] Lee: no, rubbish
[441.45] Lee: so I'm desperate to get my hands on one
[444.45] Lee: and he's like oh you can send me one
[446.45] Lee: he's like no no no I'm not happy with them
[449.45] Lee: we're going to do some retooling
[451.45] Lee: oh crap
[452.45] Lee: and then they literally
[455.45] Lee: are just going to
[457.45] Lee: are out tomorrow
[459.45] Lee: and what we're talking about
[461.45] Lee: that is the FPV antenna
[464.45] Frank: so it looks
[466.45] Frank: it reminds me of the little bump
[468.45] Frank: for the GPS antenna
[470.45] Frank: exactly so what it is
[472.45] Lee: it's a little antenna
[474.45] Lee: it's the same as the Thrasher
[476.45] Lee: and what it does
[478.45] Lee: it's got a special little doohickey
[480.45] Lee: stop me if I'm getting too technical here Greg
[482.45] Lee: sounds fine
[484.45] Lee: okay that turns it from SMA
[486.45] Lee: into MMCX and then there's a flying lead
[488.45] Lee: and the flying lead can be MMCX
[490.45] Lee: SMA
[492.45] Lee: or BNC I think anyway
[494.45] Lee: and then that goes into your video transmitter
[496.45] Lee: but what it means is that
[498.45] Lee: rather than have
[500.45] Lee: the lollipop of do
[502.45] Lee: what we can have
[504.45] Lee: and this is literally
[506.45] Lee: the first one in the world
[508.45] Lee: hopefully you can see that
[510.45] Lee: you have this little
[512.45] Lee: polycarbonate shell
[514.45] Lee: that goes under the bottom
[516.45] Lee: how sleek is that
[518.45] Lee: that is very neat
[520.45] Lee: and it works I can attest to
[522.45] Lee: because I literally was the first one
[524.45] Lee: Greg sent me over one of the first batch
[526.45] Lee: and just went give it a shot
[528.45] Lee: so of course I put it in my nano-drack
[530.45] Lee: and of course now we've talked about it on Let's Throw Now
[532.45] Lee: all those people if you've been watching the nano-drack build
[534.45] Lee: and wonder why one of the videos has been
[536.45] Lee: marked as private and you can't watch it
[538.45] Lee: it's because
[540.45] Lee: I had that in and Greg
[542.45] Lee: hasn't announced this yet
[544.45] Lee: so if you are a fixed wing pilot
[546.45] Lee: and you don't want the lollipop of doom
[548.45] Lee: anymore and you want to do
[550.45] Lee: something that's super sleek
[552.45] Lee: then this works the other thing
[554.45] Lee: is it's right hand and left hand polarise
[556.45] Lee: you've done both haven't you Bud?
[558.45] Greg: Yeah we've done so just
[560.45] Greg: we've got right hand we've got left
[562.45] Greg: hand we've got extension
[564.45] Greg: leads which connect
[566.45] Greg: inside the plane and you can have
[568.45] Greg: SMA, MMCX
[570.45] Greg: or UFL
[572.45] Greg: so we've covered hopefully all
[574.45] Greg: the variations and possibilities
[576.45] Greg: of your VTXs
[578.45] Greg: yeah
[580.45] Frank: it looks very much like the
[582.45] Frank: antenna bump that you get on
[584.45] Frank: like an actual full size aircraft
[586.45] Frank: it looks very
[588.45] Frank: scale and pleasing
[590.45] Curry: because the first thing I was going to say
[592.45] Curry: initially when he said it's like
[594.45] Curry: we're getting rid of the stem therefore it's
[596.45] Curry: going to be aerodynamic it's like
[598.45] Curry: oh well you want to get it away from your aircraft
[600.45] Curry: but I suppose what you're doing with that
[602.45] Curry: stem is trying to get above it
[604.45] Curry: not blocking it but if it's underneath the aircraft
[606.45] Curry: it doesn't matter
[608.45] Curry: pretty much attached to the fuse then it's still a decent line
[610.45] Curry: of sight towards yourself
[612.45] Greg: so you can see this bit sticking out of the bottom
[614.45] Greg: that you would bury into your plane
[616.45] Curry: oh yeah
[618.45] Greg: and then what we've got here we've had
[620.45] Greg: to have a custom made
[622.45] Greg: connector which is MMCX
[624.45] Greg: on the end there but it attaches
[626.45] Greg: to BRG402 which is
[628.45] Greg: which is very important
[630.45] Greg: for the operation
[632.45] Greg: of the pagoda style antenna
[634.45] Greg: that we use but yeah
[636.45] Greg: you've got a few tabs
[638.45] Greg: on the
[640.45] Greg: moulding there and you just basically
[642.45] Greg: you put a 10mm hole in your wing
[644.45] Greg: that goes into the wing
[646.45] Greg: and then you just glue the four tabs
[648.45] Greg: in place and that's it
[650.45] Greg: you're done and then inside you just
[652.45] Greg: connect your MMCX you can connect that directly
[654.45] Greg: to a VTX or we've got extensions
[656.45] Greg: which is MMCX to the various other
[658.45] Greg: connections. Can I order them
[662.43] Greg: now? Yeah
[664.43] Greg: yes, right so we've
[666.43] Greg: made the website live about
[668.43] Greg: two minutes before we come on air
[670.43] Greg: we've got
[672.43] Greg: them, all the stock
[674.43] Greg: is ready to ship and we're
[676.43] Greg: going to start shipping on Saturday
[680.43] Lee: you see you guys are ahead
[682.43] Lee: because my video on this is not
[684.43] Lee: out until tomorrow
[686.43] Lee: so tomorrow at 6 o'clock my video about what
[688.43] Lee: this is goes live so literally
[690.43] Lee: you are the first people apart from me and Greg to
[692.43] Lee: actually see this thing and it's so nice
[694.43] Lee: to actually talk about it after two years of
[696.43] Lee: basically watching Greg sit point
[698.43] Lee: ignoring me
[702.43] Lee: I'm just like that
[704.43] Lee: What do you say?
[706.43] Lee: Yeah that's an
[708.43] Frank: interesting idea Lee
[710.43] Frank: And so they're called the Aeropod
[712.43] Frank: Aeropod
[714.43] Greg: So
[716.43] Greg: it's like a little pod and it's aerodynamic
[718.43] Greg: I mean if you
[720.43] Greg: look on the website there is
[722.43] Greg: some simulation diagram
[724.43] Greg: showing how
[726.43] Greg: the drag
[728.43] Greg: the air goes over the
[730.43] Greg: antenna and it's
[732.43] Greg: really designed for minimum drag
[734.43] Greg: even though it's only 10mm
[736.43] Greg: pride of the wing itself
[738.43] Lee: So that was the
[742.38] Lee: idea, the other idea if you're interested
[744.38] Lee: was to record locally
[746.38] Lee: on the VTX with an
[748.38] Lee: SD card so that you wouldn't have any
[750.38] Lee: of the break up you can still record your on screen
[752.38] Lee: display and unfortunately
[754.38] Lee: someone else did that
[756.38] Lee: in fact two manufacturers did that
[758.38] Lee: so yeah we didn't get anywhere near
[760.38] Lee: that so amazing it's quite
[762.38] Lee: funny I usually have these wacky
[764.38] Lee: ideas when I sit down with Greg normally
[766.38] Lee: at Weston so yeah
[768.38] Lee: I haven't been able to give you any stupid ideas this year
[770.38] Lee: mate sorry
[772.38] Jack: Do we have any coupon codes?
[774.38] Lee: Coupon codes
[776.38] Jack: Got one for Sainsbury's Jack
[778.38] Jack: do you want that?
[780.38] NJ: Get a few quid off your shopping
[782.38] NJ: No, no I'm fine fair enough
[784.38] Jack: No I'm going to
[786.38] Jack: just unmarking my fingers
[788.38] Lee: there we go my video
[790.38] Lee: that actually shows me putting it into the
[792.38] Lee: track is now
[794.38] Lee: viewable in the playlist
[796.38] Lee: now we've talked about it
[798.38] Lee: I've added it to the description on here
[800.38] Frank: as well
[802.38] Frank: Fantastic, thanks a lot
[804.38] Greg: Fantastic, thanks a lot
[806.38] Greg: Alright so you want me to put a coupon code up to you
[808.38] Jack: No it's fine
[810.38] Jack: don't worry
[812.38] Jack: I won't be
[814.38] Jack: I won't be joining your
[816.38] Jack: email list I know that
[818.38] Jack: No coupon
[820.38] NJ: Can you make the code
[822.38] NJ: JackSulking?
[824.38] Jack: Yes
[826.38] Jack: My company's Tony's Mum
[828.38] UNKNOWN: You're not ordering now are you?
[830.38] Jack: I am ordering now
[832.38] Jack: I'm ordering now
[834.38] Jack: I'm ordering now
[836.38] Jack: I'm ordering now
[838.38] Jack: I've ordered two for me
[840.38] Jack: and one of them's a present for someone else
[842.38] Jack: Cool, I'll tell you what
[844.38] Greg: we will
[846.38] Greg: create a coupon code
[848.38] Greg: for LDO listeners
[850.38] Greg: and we're doing LDO code
[852.38] Greg: and we'll make that live
[854.38] Greg: after the show
[856.38] Greg: and let's run it
[858.38] Greg: all the way through the weekend
[860.38] Greg: until Monday
[862.38] Curry: How's that sound?
[864.38] Curry: That's very kind of nice
[866.38] Curry: And Frank, quick, change the title to
[868.38] Curry: World Exclusive
[870.38] Jack: Which it was
[872.38] Jack: Yeah, it is
[874.38] Jack: I've put in an order
[876.38] Jack: There you go
[878.38] Greg: No way
[880.38] Lee: Cool, thank you very much
[882.38] Lee: Hang on
[886.21] Lee: Did it good, man
[888.21] Lee: Oh my word
[890.21] Lee: There you go buddy
[892.21] Lee: How many did you order, Greg?
[896.21] Lee: Just enough for JackSulking
[902.21] Lee: But a must-have is one of those daft ideas
[904.21] Lee: that if you're a wing builder
[906.21] Lee: and you're always putting the
[908.21] Lee: lollipop of doom on top of these
[910.21] Lee: really nicely, you spend all your
[912.21] Lee: time hiding all the wires
[914.21] Lee: and things away and making them as sleek as possible
[916.21] Lee: and then you put one
[918.21] Lee: of the lollipops on
[920.21] Lee: It did seem like
[922.21] Lee: such an obvious thing and I'm surprised
[924.21] Lee: the only thing I was worried about when we started working on this
[926.21] Lee: after Greg had finished his point
[930.21] Lee: was that someone else
[932.21] Lee: was going to beat us to the punch
[934.21] Lee: and come out with, because you think
[936.21] Lee: about it, there's loads of fixed wing pilots
[938.21] Lee: who I'm sure will look at that and go
[940.21] Lee: oh yeah, it kind of makes a lot of sense
[942.21] Lee: because I was trying to do things like
[944.21] Lee: you know the little, what's the small antenna
[946.21] Lee: that you've got, Greg, the little
[948.21] Lee: stubby one, is it the, not the Thrasher
[950.21] Greg: Thrasher, the Thrasher, yeah
[952.21] Lee: The Thrasher, yeah
[954.21] Lee: because I was even trying to sink them into the wing
[956.21] Lee: but the problem is when you sink them in
[958.21] Lee: then you need a right angled BNC
[960.21] Lee: connector and then you've got
[962.21] Lee: the cable to go up and by the
[964.21] Lee: time you've done that, you
[966.21] Lee: have to have a really thick wing
[968.21] Lee: in order to hide all that gubbins
[970.21] Lee: you just couldn't do it, so I'm just
[972.21] Lee: surprised that nobody else, unless
[974.21] Lee: somebody else can tell this different
[976.21] Lee: that nobody else has kind of thought of why not
[978.21] Lee: make an FPV antenna specifically
[980.21] Lee: for fixed wing that's nice and neat
[984.21] NJ: I must say I'm particularly
[986.21] NJ: pleased that you did
[988.21] NJ: the aerodynamic side of things
[990.21] NJ: as well, because obviously
[992.21] NJ: in the quad world, the aerodynamics thing
[994.21] NJ: when people talk about aerodynamics
[996.21] NJ: A triggers me
[999.21] NJ: and everyone get me on the couch
[1001.21] NJ: NJ's going to go kick off, but
[1003.21] NJ: yeah obviously, quad copters
[1005.21] NJ: inherently have absolutely nothing aerodynamic
[1007.21] NJ: about them and when it comes
[1009.21] NJ: to the aerodynamics on
[1011.21] NJ: an aircraft, it's a real big thing
[1013.21] NJ: because an antenna, just an antenna
[1015.21] NJ: actually creates quite a big
[1017.21] NJ: amount of drag, in fact
[1019.21] NJ: a good point of reference for this is one of the
[1021.21] NJ: major speed limits, so if you remember on those
[1023.21] NJ: big old, the old
[1025.21] NJ: war biplanes
[1027.21] NJ: you know one of the biggest things that slowed those down
[1029.21] NJ: it wasn't a power problem, it was
[1031.21] NJ: all the string bracing
[1033.21] NJ: between the upper and lower wing
[1035.21] NJ: and if you ever watch the oscillation
[1037.21] NJ: of those, if you ever saw what was actually
[1039.21] NJ: happening to them and they'd get into oscillation
[1041.21] NJ: at certain wind speeds
[1043.21] NJ: the amount of drag that would come
[1045.21] NJ: off the back of those was absolutely horrific
[1047.21] NJ: they'd get off the ground very quickly
[1049.21] NJ: for having lots of lift
[1051.21] NJ: which was good for short runways, but the drag
[1053.21] NJ: was a big thing, so
[1055.21] NJ: that little thing, just that tiny
[1057.21] NJ: little change in aerodynamic improvement
[1059.21] NJ: can actually make meaningful
[1061.21] NJ: differences on a wing
[1063.21] NJ: so yeah, bravo sir
[1065.21] Lee: there's been a really
[1067.21] Lee: good question from Long Range FPV
[1069.21] Lee: which is can you use them with DJI FPV
[1071.21] Lee: I know the answer to this
[1073.21] Lee: but I'm going to hand over to the guy that designed them
[1075.21] Lee: to answer this, because I'm not
[1077.21] Lee: getting anywhere near that, Greg over to you
[1079.21] Greg: right
[1081.21] Greg: so look, we made
[1083.21] Greg: them in right hand, we made them in left hand
[1085.21] Greg: and we made them with various connectors
[1087.21] Greg: so
[1089.21] Greg: effectively, you can connect these
[1091.21] Greg: up to a DJI
[1093.21] Greg: video transmitter
[1095.21] Greg: so it
[1097.21] Greg: will work
[1099.21] Greg: you know, it's the same principle
[1101.21] Greg: as us upgrading our analog antennas
[1103.21] Greg: it's the same thing
[1105.21] Greg: it covers the frequency bands of DJI
[1107.21] Greg: so it should work really well
[1109.21] Greg: and I say should, because I've
[1111.21] Greg: not actually tested it myself with a
[1113.21] Greg: DJI unit yet, so we
[1115.21] Greg: will do that
[1117.21] Lee: but because
[1119.21] Lee: they've got the right connectors in the left hand
[1121.21] Lee: it should work, the only
[1123.21] Lee: thing is, you're probably going to want to mount them not
[1125.21] Lee: on the same part of the plane
[1127.21] Lee: so they're both in the same direction
[1129.21] Lee: if it's a round fuse, you probably want
[1131.21] Lee: an angle
[1133.21] Lee: so you get a little bit more diversity and coverage
[1135.21] Lee: but
[1137.21] Lee: we did talk about that
[1139.21] Lee: the left hand circular polarizer
[1141.21] Lee: are available, it's just, we haven't had
[1143.21] Lee: a chance to test it
[1145.21] Lee: but it's a standard Menis RC antenna
[1147.21] Lee: under that sexy dress
[1149.21] Lee: because that's
[1151.21] Lee: all it is, it's a standard
[1153.21] Lee: martin bar
[1155.21] Lee: pagoda antenna that we've all
[1157.21] Lee: been using from Menis Forever
[1159.21] Lee: in a sexy black dress that goes on the top
[1161.21] Lee: and then there's a little bit of mad science
[1163.21] Lee: at the back, which is the connector
[1165.21] Lee: which actually took Greg a
[1167.21] Lee: long time to find that takes it from
[1169.21] Lee: the coax that's used inside
[1171.21] Lee: the antenna to
[1173.21] Lee: the coax that's the nice thin one that you can
[1175.21] Lee: use to run to your VTX
[1177.21] Greg: we actually ended up having those
[1179.21] Greg: made specially
[1181.21] Greg: because there wasn't such a
[1183.21] Greg: thing which would connect to the
[1185.21] Greg: RG402
[1187.21] Greg: so that was one of the other major delays
[1189.21] Greg: in getting it ready for production
[1191.21] Lee: well you tried a couple
[1193.21] Lee: of things hadn't you and none of them
[1195.21] Lee: were getting some serious losses
[1197.21] Lee: through all the other ideas that were out there
[1199.21] Greg: yeah we tried all sorts of different
[1201.21] Greg: cables, connections
[1203.21] Greg: micro strips
[1205.21] Greg: 90 degree micro strips and so on
[1207.21] Greg: and everything wasn't just not
[1209.21] Greg: performing how it should, so in the end
[1211.21] Greg: it was just like let's make a connector
[1213.21] Greg: that's specific for this antenna
[1215.21] Lee: in fact it was PCBs
[1217.21] Lee: at one point, it was actually
[1219.21] Lee: like a flat PCB with the elements
[1221.21] Lee: and everything soldered on and then
[1223.21] Lee: going off that you could, and
[1225.21] Lee: that would have been, if that had worked it
[1227.21] Lee: would have been immense because you'd probably saved about
[1229.21] Lee: five or six millimeters of the depth
[1231.21] Lee: because I know that some people will ask this
[1233.21] Lee: but the depth from the back
[1235.21] Lee: of the plastic polycarbonate
[1237.21] Lee: shell to the top of the brass adapter
[1239.21] Lee: is 20 millimeters
[1241.21] Lee: so you do need to either have a 20
[1243.21] Lee: millimeter thick wing for it
[1245.21] Lee: to all be hidden away or what
[1247.21] Lee: it means is in something like this
[1249.21] Lee: when you mount it underneath
[1251.21] Lee: the top pokes out
[1253.21] Lee: beautifully, ready to, so that you can
[1255.21] Lee: just snap the MMCX connector on the side
[1257.21] Lee: but you need 20 millimeters
[1259.21] Lee: or more to mount it
[1261.21] Lee: either through or
[1263.21] Lee: in
[1265.21] Frank: Yeah, I'm really
[1267.21] Frank: looking forward to having a go with that one
[1269.21] Frank: I think that'll be nice on
[1271.21] Frank: well on that wing, I'll stick it
[1273.21] Frank: on that wing
[1275.21] Lee: It is really good, if you want to see how it
[1277.21] Lee: performs, just the last thing from me
[1279.21] Lee: the maiden video from the Nanodrack series
[1281.21] Lee: that's just started, the Nanodrack's been
[1283.21] Lee: done, it's been flown, it's been
[1285.21] Lee: taken care of, the maiden video
[1287.21] Lee: is all done with
[1289.21] Lee: the, with that antenna
[1291.21] Lee: and you can see how well it performs
[1293.21] Lee: because again
[1295.21] Lee: you can't help flying a Nanodrack
[1297.21] Lee: well only a drag like the Stolleit
[1299.21] Lee: and even though it was a maiden, probably got a little
[1301.21] Lee: bit carried away, but all of that
[1303.21] Lee: FPV footage that you're viewing in
[1305.21] Lee: the maiden was through that antenna
[1307.21] Jack: remember
[1310.49] Jack: when the officer asks
[1312.49] Jack: he was flying enthusiastically
[1314.49] Lee: Lee, that's right, now I have my
[1316.49] Lee: spotter, Uncle Ross
[1318.49] Lee: he's, actually if you listen to the
[1320.49] Lee: audio on the maiden
[1322.49] Lee: he's worth, because I
[1324.49] Lee: start the maiden and I throw it up and I'm flying
[1326.49] Lee: around and I'm doing 50% throttle and it's doing
[1328.49] Lee: 64 miles an hour or whatever it was
[1330.49] Lee: so I'm going ooh it's faster
[1332.49] Lee: than I thought it was going to be, and then
[1334.49] Lee: you can hear the audio and go in
[1337.49] Lee: go on, give it a run, and I'm
[1339.49] Lee: just like, yeah okay then, so
[1341.49] Lee: he's definitely the
[1343.49] Lee: bad influence and then we're doing
[1345.49] Lee: all these strafing runs
[1347.49] Lee: down the, but the thing is
[1349.49] Lee: they make such a stupid noise
[1351.49] Lee: you just get that
[1353.49] Lee: over the top of you, and then
[1355.49] Lee: all you can hear is him and I laughing
[1357.49] Lee: like we always do when we're doing these things
[1359.49] Lee: just because you have this little
[1361.49] Lee: dot in the distance and then it just goes
[1363.49] Lee: whoop, and it's another little dot as it kind of screams
[1365.49] Lee: into the air, but no
[1367.49] Lee: I just try to see
[1369.49] Lee: personally I'm kind of interested
[1371.49] Lee: in how this goes and what the feedback is
[1373.49] Lee: and I'm interested to see how long it is
[1375.49] Lee: before other people think that's not a bad idea
[1377.49] Lee: and start to copy it, but
[1381.49] Lee: I need to say thanks to Greg
[1383.49] Lee: for sticking with me and actually not
[1385.49] Lee: just telling me to shut that up
[1387.49] Lee: every time we spoke and I said
[1389.49] Lee: so how's the arrow put up coming
[1391.49] Lee: and Greg went, yeah it's fine
[1395.49] Lee: but for not telling me to wipe my neck
[1397.49] Lee: thank you for sticking with me
[1399.49] Lee: because as a wing pilot
[1401.49] Lee: you have made me very happy
[1403.49] Lee: and I'm going to be ordering five tomorrow
[1405.49] Lee: probably with the LDO code
[1407.49] Lee: I've done it
[1409.49] Jack: without the LDO code
[1411.49] Jack: but everyone thanked me
[1413.49] Jack: I'm sorry Greg
[1415.49] Jack: it's going to be something like
[1417.49] Jack: two percent, it's going to be like
[1419.49] Jack: shut up Jack
[1421.49] Greg: we're doing a minus
[1423.49] Greg: five percent
[1425.49] Frank: there we go, that will go on the
[1427.49] Frank: Patreon and the Facebook and
[1429.49] Frank: everywhere else I can think to put it
[1431.49] Lee: that's fantastic, cool
[1433.49] Frank: I know the sort of three of us
[1435.49] Frank: up here
[1437.49] Frank: are kind of
[1439.49] Frank: eyeing up the
[1441.49] Frank: how the DJI is gradually
[1443.49] Frank: making its way through
[1445.49] Frank: the FPV population and eyeing it
[1447.49] Frank: with suspicion
[1449.49] Frank: with your
[1451.49] Frank: because you've got your special
[1453.49] Frank: antennas for the goggles
[1455.49] Frank: how's
[1457.49] Frank: the sales of those been going?
[1459.49] Frank: I've seen quite a lot of them around
[1461.49] Frank: so I imagine they're quite popular
[1463.49] Greg: I think what it is
[1465.49] Greg: we've done some work
[1467.49] Greg: I think
[1469.49] Greg: when I was on last I think we might have talked
[1471.49] Greg: about them but
[1473.49] Greg: we've done a lot of work with David in Italy
[1475.49] Greg: and
[1477.49] Greg: we found that the best solution
[1479.49] Greg: was to stick your high gain patches
[1481.49] Greg: on the bottom two ports
[1483.49] Greg: so we've developed what we
[1485.49] Greg: call the Digi Pack
[1487.49] Greg: it's two of our
[1489.49] Greg: Pico patches
[1491.49] Greg: left hand, RPSMA
[1493.49] Greg: etc
[1495.49] Greg: and they've been received
[1497.49] Greg: really well
[1499.49] Greg: into the hobby and we've
[1501.49] Greg: sold a fair few of them
[1503.49] Greg: and I think everyone
[1505.49] Greg: who's had them has been very pleased
[1507.49] Greg: and seen videos of guys
[1509.49] Greg: doing
[1511.49] Greg: very long range flights
[1513.49] Greg: we won't say how far
[1515.49] Greg: but using
[1517.49] Frank: 500m
[1519.49] Lee: exactly, 499.9
[1521.49] Lee: right to the edge of line of sight
[1523.49] Lee: but no further
[1525.49] Greg: they were doing it with
[1527.49] Greg: the Cadex
[1529.49] Greg: Vista module as well
[1531.49] Greg: so only one antenna on the drone
[1533.49] Greg: and they were getting
[1535.49] Greg: absolutely crystal clear reception all the way out
[1537.49] Greg: at some crazy distances
[1539.49] Greg: with just a standard
[1541.49] Greg: antenna on the drone and
[1543.49] Greg: our Digi Pack on the goggles
[1545.49] NJ: I can actually weigh in on that as well
[1547.49] NJ: because I was chatting with
[1549.49] NJ: Bloods
[1551.49] NJ: because he picked up a couple
[1553.49] NJ: and we've been messing
[1555.49] NJ: around with our new little 3 inch
[1557.49] NJ: frame and we had the Vista on that
[1559.49] NJ: and he actually sent me some
[1561.49] NJ: DVR footage where
[1563.49] NJ: he didn't go very far away but just through
[1565.49] NJ: the densest, thickest forest
[1567.49] NJ: got all the way through the forest
[1569.49] NJ: on the other side with this 3 inch Vista pick
[1571.49] NJ: and still perfect clarity
[1573.49] NJ: using the patches where it had otherwise
[1575.49] NJ: fallen over so the actual penetration
[1577.49] NJ: and this is from footage I've seen
[1579.49] NJ: first hand is exceptional
[1581.49] Greg: yeah, absolutely
[1583.49] Greg: I mean there's all these
[1585.49] Greg: discussions online of we should have them
[1587.49] Greg: on the top port, we should have them on the bottom, we should have
[1589.49] Greg: it on both but
[1591.49] Greg: they just work brilliantly
[1593.49] Greg: on the bottom and that is purely because
[1595.49] Greg: the bottom two ports receive
[1597.49] NJ: where the top port
[1599.49] Greg: transmits and
[1601.49] Greg: if you go into a high multi-path
[1603.49] Greg: environment you're going to transmit, you're going to
[1605.49] Greg: stuff all that extra signal into that area
[1607.49] Greg: it's all going to bounce around and get messy
[1609.49] Greg: so yeah, just the bottom ports
[1611.49] Greg: and even the
[1613.49] Greg: standard antennas on the top works brilliant
[1615.49] Lee: that makes sense
[1617.49] Lee: that's how I fly it and I must
[1619.49] Lee: admit I do like those
[1621.49] Lee: it's interesting Greg as a manufacturer
[1623.49] Lee: to say no don't buy four of my antennas
[1625.49] Curry: just buy the two
[1627.49] Curry: the two are good
[1629.49] Curry: on behalf of the top row
[1631.49] Curry: we'd all like the way in but
[1633.49] Curry: up here we are the have-nots
[1635.49] Curry: down there
[1639.49] Curry: as divided by a common set
[1641.49] Lee: of windows
[1649.49] Lee: well if we ever get to fly
[1651.49] Lee: together then yeah we'll bring all the
[1653.49] Lee: HD stuff and yeah
[1655.49] NJ: the bottom will be fine and we'll blow out
[1657.49] NJ: all you guys at the top so it's all good
[1663.49] Jack: remember NJ
[1665.49] Jack: when you're wearing the goggles
[1667.49] Jack: you won't know where I am
[1669.49] NJ: I don't know how dangerous
[1671.49] NJ: you are
[1673.49] Jack: your spotter better be
[1675.49] Jack: quick
[1679.49] Jack: being like
[1681.49] Jack: Greg now drinking loads
[1683.49] Lee: good man
[1685.49] Jack: you are French now
[1689.49] Curry: Lee has pretty much
[1691.49] Curry: put the rumour across you have
[1693.49] Curry: some sort of drinking problem because
[1695.49] Curry: we do hear that every time you speak you
[1697.49] Curry: sip beer
[1699.49] Greg: it's true beer, wine
[1701.49] Greg: yeah anything
[1703.49] Lee: I think to be fair
[1705.49] Lee: that I am usually drinking at the same time
[1707.49] Lee: so it might be my bad influence
[1709.49] Lee: but you're definitely
[1711.49] Lee: in the French chateau out there Greg
[1713.49] Lee: you've embraced the lifestyle out there
[1717.49] Curry: yeah
[1719.49] Curry: wine on your cornflakes out there isn't it
[1721.49] Greg: surely
[1725.49] Greg: there's some very
[1727.49] Greg: good wines and they're about 2 euros a bottle
[1729.49] Greg: and
[1731.49] Greg: we get through a few of them
[1737.49] Jack: very thorough at many thank you
[1739.49] Jack: thank you
[1743.49] Frank: this episode was recorded in front
[1745.49] Frank: of a live online audience
[1747.49] Frank: downloaded and edited to make sense when it
[1749.49] Frank: played audio only, censored
[1751.49] Frank: to please the iTunes people hosted on the internet
[1753.49] Frank: forwarded through to your podcast provider
[1755.49] Frank: downloaded, playing on your device
[1757.49] Frank: and is now playing in your ears
[1759.49] Frank: all thanks to our Patreons
[1761.49] Frank: consider joining them and you'll also get other
[1763.49] Frank: online benefits
[1765.49] Frank: at patreon.com
[1767.49] Frank: slash Let's Drone Out
[1769.49] Frank: shall we talk about another antenna?
[1771.49] Frank: yeah another re-product as well
[1773.49] Lee: isn't there?
[1775.49] Lee: yeah Richard's asking about the Viper
[1777.49] Greg: oh yeah yeah I saw him
[1779.49] Greg: so this one
[1781.49] Greg: I can't get me left and right up and down
[1783.49] Greg: there we go
[1785.49] Greg: so the Viper
[1787.49] Greg: so what we've done
[1789.49] Greg: with the Viper is
[1791.49] Greg: pretty similar to what we've
[1793.49] Greg: we had the Invader
[1795.49] Greg: and then we
[1797.49] Greg: designed the Pico
[1799.49] Greg: so the Pico was a higher gain patch
[1801.49] Greg: so
[1803.49] Greg: in the linear world we had the
[1805.49] Greg: Bandicoot so we've done the same
[1807.49] Greg: thing and we've designed the Viper
[1809.49] Greg: so it's a higher gain linear
[1811.49] Greg: patch
[1813.49] Greg: it was
[1815.49] Greg: released a few
[1817.49] Greg: days ago probably about a week ago
[1819.49] Greg: I think
[1821.49] Greg: and again it's been
[1823.49] Greg: received really well we've done
[1825.49] Greg: a whole load of testing with it you can
[1827.49] Greg: achieve much further
[1829.49] Greg: range than the Bandicoot
[1831.49] Greg: the sort of
[1833.49] Greg: the beam width is
[1835.49] Greg: very similar to the Bandicoot
[1837.49] Greg: so it works
[1839.49] Greg: fairly well
[1841.49] Greg: in all the situations
[1843.49] Greg: that you would expect from Bandicoot
[1845.49] Greg: people will probably
[1847.49] Greg: ask is this replacing the Bandicoot
[1849.49] Greg: I would like to think
[1851.49] Greg: it's an addition to the range but I'm
[1853.49] Greg: sure people, customers
[1855.49] Greg: will buy what
[1857.49] Greg: they want and
[1859.49] Greg: it will go that way
[1861.49] Lee: I don't know if you can see behind me
[1863.49] Lee: that's a rig to test a quad
[1865.49] Lee: and actually on there
[1867.49] Lee: is my
[1869.49] Lee: maybe you can just about see it
[1871.49] Lee: but there it is
[1873.49] Lee: on the tip where my
[1875.49] Lee: it says I have this Greg isn't it
[1877.49] Lee: that is my Vyper
[1879.49] Lee: under there because it's a linear
[1881.49] Lee: antenna on this EMACS quad
[1883.49] Lee: and I must admit I think that's pretty
[1885.49] Lee: I love it I think to be fair I
[1887.49] Lee: quite like the standard linear antennas anyway
[1889.49] Lee: but that just seems to
[1891.49] Lee: just seems to be a little bit more forgiving
[1893.49] Lee: in the plane that I've done with it the last 10 days
[1895.49] Greg: yeah so
[1898.77] Greg: the antenna
[1900.77] Greg: itself for the goggles
[1902.77] Greg: there's a pilot
[1904.77] Greg: called Atto
[1906.77] Greg: have you guys heard of Atto?
[1908.77] Greg: so John
[1910.77] Greg: he went to a race
[1912.77] Greg: the other week
[1914.77] Greg: and he took
[1916.77] Greg: one of his
[1918.77] Greg: sniper frames and he was running
[1920.77] Greg: it with a linear whip
[1922.77] Greg: at the race which might be found
[1924.77] Greg: on by some but he
[1926.77] Greg: ran a linear whip
[1928.77] Greg: with a Vyper
[1930.77] Greg: six pilots in the air all on a log
[1932.77] Greg: he had the clearest signal
[1934.77] Greg: all day all the pilots running
[1936.77] Greg: circular were having all sorts of problems
[1938.77] Greg: so
[1940.77] Greg: this is a bit of a beast
[1942.77] Greg: for linear it really is
[1944.77] Lee: the thing with linear
[1946.77] Lee: though isn't it right Greg is that it's only
[1948.77] Lee: kind of within 45 degrees
[1950.77] Lee: of vertical
[1952.77] Lee: and then after that you
[1954.77] Lee: lose up to there you get 70%
[1956.77] Lee: the signal and then as you get further away
[1958.77] Lee: from the alignment you lose the rest
[1960.77] Lee: so I suppose if you're racing
[1962.77] Lee: and you're not flippity-floppity
[1964.77] Lee: freestyle
[1966.77] Lee: I could see why that would work
[1968.77] Greg: yeah I mean
[1970.77] Greg: with linear if you've got two
[1972.77] Greg: linear dipoles
[1974.77] Greg: or monopoles
[1976.77] Greg: when you get out of
[1978.77] Greg: phase like that you've got your cross
[1980.77] Greg: polarization and that's
[1982.77] Greg: when you lose a lot of your signal
[1984.77] Greg: but what we find
[1986.77] Greg: when you use a linear patch
[1988.77] Greg: is that it's way more
[1990.77] Greg: forgiving it's a higher
[1992.77] Greg: sensitive high sensitivity
[1994.77] Greg: so it's a higher gain but if you
[1996.77] Greg: are spinning around with your
[1998.77] Greg: drone when you go
[2000.77] Greg: past that worst point
[2002.77] Greg: of cross polarization
[2004.77] Greg: it is hardly noticeable and
[2006.77] Greg: you can see it in videos
[2008.77] Greg: that you don't experience
[2010.77] Greg: that break up
[2012.77] Lee: so what's the impact on the beam width then because
[2014.77] Lee: it's got the same element as the Pico
[2016.77] Lee: has and that second element seems to
[2018.77] Lee: know in the Pico it brought in the
[2020.77] Lee: beam width a little bit because
[2022.77] Lee: you only got more gain and more distance but
[2024.77] Lee: you sacrificed a bit of the sky
[2026.77] Greg: yeah you lose
[2028.77] Greg: a little bit in the beam width so
[2030.77] Greg: this one is like 90 degrees
[2032.77] Greg: this way horizontal
[2034.77] Greg: 90 degrees vertical
[2036.77] Greg: so you've got a good all round
[2038.77] Greg: coverage with the Bandicoot
[2040.77] Greg: it's a little bit wider
[2042.77] Greg: I think it's about 105
[2044.77] Greg: degrees or something without actually pulling
[2046.77] Greg: the spec up so you do lose
[2048.77] Greg: a little bit but
[2050.77] Greg: when you talk in terms of
[2052.77] Greg: the actual sensitivity at
[2054.77] Greg: let's call it 100 degrees
[2056.77] Greg: so if you're using the Bandicoot
[2058.77] Greg: and your beam width was 100
[2060.77] Greg: degrees and it's a lower gain
[2062.77] Greg: patch compared to the Viper
[2064.77] Greg: the
[2066.77] Greg: actual gain at this
[2068.77] Greg: 100 degrees will be
[2070.77] Greg: a certain level but then if you do the same thing
[2072.77] Greg: with the Viper and it's got a smaller
[2074.77] Greg: beam width you're still going to be receiving
[2076.77] Greg: at 100 degrees
[2078.77] Greg: but because it's a higher gain
[2080.77] Greg: at that same point as the Bandicoot
[2082.77] Greg: you will still receive
[2084.77] Greg: the same level
[2086.77] Greg: of signal
[2088.77] Greg: so
[2090.77] Greg: whilst you can say yeah what's the beam width
[2092.77] Greg: it's really
[2094.77] Greg: well you should be saying what's the beam width
[2096.77] Greg: and what's the gain
[2098.77] Greg: and what am I actually going to be receiving at those
[2100.77] Greg: angles if that
[2102.77] Greg: makes sense to everyone?
[2104.77] Lee: So what you're saying is because
[2106.77] Lee: it has a
[2108.77] Lee: higher gain even though
[2110.77] Lee: the beam width is narrower
[2112.77] Lee: because it has a higher gain you
[2114.77] Lee: still get the same kind of reception on the fringes
[2116.77] Lee: anyway because it's a higher gain antenna
[2118.77] Greg: is that right?
[2120.77] Greg: That's essentially it because when you
[2122.77] Greg: determine the beam width for an antenna
[2124.77] Greg: you take the half power points
[2126.77] Greg: which is minus 3 dB back
[2128.77] Greg: so
[2130.77] Greg: that's how you work out your points
[2132.77] Greg: but if you
[2134.77] Greg: on the fringes of the Viper
[2136.77] Greg: you're still going to receive the signal
[2138.77] Greg: at the same level as you would with the Viper
[2140.77] Greg: which is on spec
[2142.77] Greg: got a wider beam
[2144.77] Lee: Is it worthwhile making a
[2146.77] Lee: video on this at some point Greg?
[2148.77] Lee: Because to be honest we need a diagram
[2150.77] Lee: Let's make a video
[2152.77] Lee: We'll make a video
[2154.77] Lee: Oh look, here we go
[2158.77] Lee: For those listening on the podcast Jack
[2160.77] Lee: is now not quite on the back of
[2162.77] Lee: a packet but close
[2164.77] Lee: drawing a diagram
[2170.77] Lee: Awesome
[2172.77] Lee: It's perfectly clear now Jack
[2174.77] Lee: thank you for that
[2176.77] Lee: I understand exactly
[2178.77] Lee: what Greg was saying
[2180.77] Jack: All I know is that if you use
[2182.77] Jack: what is it a linear transmitter with
[2184.77] Jack: a circular powerised
[2186.77] Jack: receiver, isn't it something like
[2188.77] Jack: up to 13
[2190.77] Jack: dB
[2192.77] Greg: So if you mix the signals
[2194.77] Greg: you will lose 3 dB
[2196.77] Greg: regardless of what angle you're at
[2198.77] Jack: It's gone
[2200.77] Greg: You'll never make the phase
[2202.77] Greg: No
[2204.77] Greg: because you're mixing
[2206.77] Greg: polarisation so
[2208.77] Greg: linear to linear you get your maximum
[2210.77] Greg: signal strength
[2212.77] Greg: circular to circular you get your maximum
[2214.77] Greg: signal strength, circular to linear
[2216.77] Greg: it's going to reduce by
[2218.77] Greg: 3 dB
[2220.77] Lee: It's amazing how many people I see
[2222.77] Lee: who still fly with circular
[2224.77] Lee: polarised antennas with linear on
[2226.77] Lee: their models, you know like the little
[2228.77] Lee: toothpicks and things like
[2230.77] Lee: that and it just, it does make a
[2232.77] Lee: big difference and it feels really weird
[2234.77] Lee: putting that, you know those are the rubber ducky antennas
[2236.77] Lee: and the fat shot ones we all get
[2238.77] Lee: and we used to throw away and you know
[2240.77] Lee: that's it
[2242.77] Lee: XJet
[2244.77] Lee: always used to make a joke of like throwing
[2246.77] Lee: that away when you unbox goggles
[2248.77] Lee: actually screwing one of those old style
[2250.77] Lee: rubber ducky antennas into your
[2252.77] Lee: 500 pound goggles feels really
[2254.77] Lee: weird but actually it's the best thing to do if you've got
[2256.77] Lee: a whip antenna on your model
[2258.77] Curry: Well you say that but without that patch
[2260.77] Curry: antenna isn't the problem that
[2262.77] Curry: you're having the hit of that 3 dB
[2264.77] Curry: loss if you're using circular polarisation
[2266.77] Curry: but as soon as you go out of orientation
[2268.77] Curry: and you get de-phased
[2270.77] Curry: you lose an awful lot more and it's best
[2272.77] Curry: to take that 3 dB hit
[2274.77] Curry: but of course if you put it in line
[2276.77] Curry: with that linear patch then you're sort of getting the best out
[2278.77] Curry: of both worlds. Yes, yeah
[2280.77] Greg: that is right but I think
[2282.77] Greg: what I was sort of explaining
[2284.77] Greg: earlier is that with the patch
[2286.77] Greg: it's much more forgiving so say
[2288.77] Greg: you have your two
[2290.77] Greg: linear monopoles or dipoles
[2292.77] Greg: when you get to 90
[2294.77] Greg: degrees that's the worst point
[2296.77] Greg: and it's about a minus 30
[2298.77] Greg: 30 dB
[2300.77] Greg: loss so with the
[2302.77] Greg: patch when you
[2304.77] Greg: get to 90 degrees
[2306.77] Greg: it's way more forgiving
[2308.77] Greg: than using two
[2310.77] Curry: monopoles. Oh is that because that gain is sort of
[2312.77] Curry: pulling that power back as you were saying
[2314.77] Greg: The gain is there
[2316.77] Greg: and it's not like you've
[2318.77] Greg: got two thin pieces of wire
[2320.77] Greg: and then you've only got that
[2322.77] Greg: cross section where my two fingers
[2324.77] Greg: cross that's what you're left with
[2326.77] Greg: with the patch is quite a big copper area
[2328.77] Greg: that you've got there
[2330.77] Lee: I love the fact
[2332.77] Lee: I'm sorry
[2334.77] Lee: I'm just going to say I love the fact Greg that actually you don't
[2336.77] Lee: quite know exactly how these linear
[2338.77] Lee: patches work, they just work
[2340.77] Lee: yeah
[2344.77] Lee: When he came out with the first one
[2346.77] Lee: he sent it to me I was like oh this is really interesting
[2348.77] Lee: so what have you done, how's it work and he went
[2350.77] Lee: I'm actually not sure
[2352.77] Lee: I just did this design a bit and it was
[2354.77] Lee: amazing for linear and I was like oh ok
[2356.77] Lee: right fine so not only
[2358.77] Lee: did you not know how it works you've actually managed
[2360.77] Lee: to improve on it and still not
[2362.77] Lee: completely sure exactly how it
[2364.77] Lee: works inside
[2366.77] Greg: The easiest way to describe it is
[2368.77] Greg: far less forgiving
[2370.77] Frank: What's Jack sharing now?
[2372.77] Jack: That's what he's on
[2374.77] Jack: about with the
[2376.77] Lee: circular polar, it's how
[2378.77] Lee: a circular polarised RF
[2380.77] Lee: wave propagates
[2382.77] Jack: the linear, is that right?
[2388.77] Lee: We've got the red
[2390.77] Lee: and the green component haven't you
[2392.77] Lee: which would be the element
[2394.77] Lee: that's two linear
[2396.77] Greg: signals summing there to create
[2398.77] Greg: a circular polarised
[2400.77] Greg: so you have two linear signals
[2402.77] Greg: and one of them is 90 degrees
[2404.77] Greg: at a phase
[2409.1] Greg: so yeah, red and green is your two
[2411.1] Greg: linears, blue is the sum
[2413.1] Greg: of the two
[2415.1] Greg: but if they were both in phase you wouldn't
[2417.1] Greg: get circular, it's got to be 90 degrees out
[2421.1] Lee: Mr Shady's asking
[2423.1] Lee: is there a
[2425.1] Lee: dipole that's the best linear
[2427.1] Lee: for the model?
[2429.1] Lee: For the model?
[2431.1] Lee: Yeah
[2433.1] Lee: I'm guessing we're talking about the fact that
[2435.1] Lee: it's got some kind of
[2438.64] Lee: there we go, there's the two
[2440.64] Lee: vertical polarised
[2442.64] Lee: and that's horizontal
[2446.11] Jack: sorry about that Greg
[2448.11] Jack: I'll be back to next time
[2450.11] NJ: They're only doing that because they're being observed
[2452.11] NJ: there's a fight I can start
[2454.11] Jack: No!
[2456.11] Lee: Who let him back on?
[2458.11] Greg: Shady gives FPV
[2460.11] Greg: There is a question
[2462.11] Greg: best linear for the model
[2464.11] Greg: so at the moment
[2466.11] Greg: for the models, just the
[2468.11] Greg: little wire
[2470.11] Greg: sort of like whip type
[2472.11] Greg: antennas, if you are
[2474.11] Greg: into making them yourselves
[2476.11] Greg: we've got up on
[2478.11] Greg: Thingiverse, a little 3D tool
[2480.11] Greg: that you can print, or if you haven't got a
[2482.11] Greg: 3D printer you can go on the website and you can
[2484.11] Greg: buy the 3D print
[2486.11] Greg: and basically you use some
[2488.11] Greg: Kite's cable and it's got little
[2490.11] Greg: aptatures and things built into it
[2492.11] Greg: so you can strip it, cut it
[2494.11] Greg: make the
[2496.11] Greg: the ground parts
[2498.11] Greg: and everything and it comes out perfectly
[2500.11] Greg: tuned every time
[2502.11] Greg: if you're into making antennas
[2506.11] Lee: We also did that video Greg
[2508.11] Lee: about the difference between
[2510.11] Lee: circular polarised and linear
[2512.11] Lee: and then we actually rotated the two
[2514.11] Lee: together to show you
[2516.11] Lee: in which instance a linear
[2518.11] Lee: is actually a better option than circular
[2520.11] Lee: because the thing is we all assume that circular polarised
[2522.11] Lee: is the best because when you're flipping
[2524.11] Lee: and rolling and you're not
[2526.11] Lee: sure what orientation you're going to be in
[2528.11] Lee: you have a very good chance that you're
[2530.11] Lee: going to still get the same kind of reception
[2532.11] Lee: no matter how the
[2534.11] Lee: orientation is between the two antennas
[2536.11] Lee: because that's kind of the whole point of circular polarised
[2538.11] Lee: with linear
[2540.11] Lee: the way it works is that if you
[2542.11] Lee: if you're only going to get about
[2544.11] Lee: 45 degree out of phase
[2546.11] Lee: with the two elements so you may be
[2548.11] Lee: flying the wing and you're not looping and rolling
[2550.11] Lee: sometimes linear is actually a
[2552.11] Lee: better bet, it gives you a better
[2554.11] Lee: signal strength and less dropout
[2558.46] Lee: we did that video on it
[2560.46] Lee: there's a video in the FPV antenna lab
[2562.46] Lee: that Greg did all the testing for
[2564.46] Greg: it's well worth having a look at the FPV antenna lab
[2567.46] Greg: because we cover a lot of things
[2569.46] Greg: a lot of questions that are raised by
[2571.46] Greg: pilots and we've
[2573.46] Greg: tested them with
[2575.46] Greg: vector network analyzers
[2577.46] Greg: and things like that
[2579.46] Lee: all your expensive stuff that
[2581.46] Lee: none of us have
[2583.46] Jack: the IP is linear
[2585.46] Jack: yeah where's our Yagi menace
[2587.46] Jack: a Yagi
[2589.46] Jack: you want a Yagi
[2591.46] Jack: or Yagi whatever
[2593.46] NJ: I like the Yagi antennas
[2595.46] NJ: because they look like your classic
[2597.46] NJ: kind of 4T science fiction
[2599.46] NJ: ray gun
[2601.46] Curry: it's just like a TV antenna isn't it
[2603.46] Curry: just hold one of those up
[2605.46] Curry: essentially yes
[2607.46] Curry: they are Yagi
[2609.46] Lee: Yagi
[2611.46] Frank: earlier there was a question from
[2613.46] Frank: Clive asking
[2615.46] Frank: can we have a better looking rubber ducky
[2617.46] Frank: so I guess that would be like a
[2619.46] Frank: linear periscope to go with
[2621.46] Frank: the linear
[2623.46] Frank: pico patch
[2625.46] Jack: we have one like a Toyota Corolla
[2627.46] Jack: that when you switch a radio on
[2629.46] Jack: it goes up
[2631.46] Lee: laughs
[2633.46] Lee: well when you get
[2635.46] Lee: excited
[2637.46] Greg: oh my word
[2639.46] Greg: I'll have a look at linear
[2641.46] NJ: all for aerodynamic
[2643.46] NJ: purpose could we actually make
[2645.46] NJ: it the shape of a duck because Mother Nature
[2647.46] NJ: made those pretty aerodynamic
[2649.46] NJ: laughs
[2651.46] Greg: were they aerodynamic
[2653.46] Greg: or aqua dynamic
[2655.46] Greg: a linear antenna
[2657.46] Lee: actually had a cross section that was more
[2659.46] Lee: teardrop shaped so actually in the airflow
[2661.46] Lee: it acted aerodynamically
[2663.46] Lee: it's not a bad idea
[2665.46] Lee: actually I like that one
[2667.46] Lee: I like the antenna fins
[2669.46] Frank: that you see on the back of
[2671.46] Frank: like a 737 or something
[2673.46] Lee: yeah yeah just to help the airflow separate
[2675.46] Lee: off the back a little bit for the drag
[2677.46] Lee: that would probably be a good idea on things
[2679.46] Lee: like going back to Wayne's thing
[2681.46] Lee: we talked about earlier the telemetry radios
[2683.46] Lee: you know those big
[2685.46] Lee: rubber ducky antennas for things like telemetry
[2687.46] Lee: radios for arty copter
[2689.46] Lee: not that it's going to be going that quick
[2691.46] Lee: but it's an interesting idea
[2693.46] Jack: come on man let's drink
[2695.46] Jack: water so you might actually do it
[2698.46] Lee: we need to go through about another five
[2700.46] Lee: points before we get to the point where we
[2702.46] Lee: actually pulls out the design
[2704.46] Lee: pencil
[2707.46] Jack: how's your pond
[2709.46] Jack: my pond
[2711.46] Jack: river stream
[2713.46] Jack: oh yeah
[2715.46] Jack: do you want to explain what I'd ask
[2717.46] Jack: question
[2719.46] Greg: right yeah
[2721.46] Greg: so here in France we actually live in an
[2723.46] Greg: old mill an old water mill
[2725.46] Greg: and we're
[2727.46] Greg: renovating it
[2729.46] Greg: and part of the
[2731.46] Greg: renovation is we're going to try and restore
[2733.46] Greg: the waterways
[2735.46] Greg: around the mill
[2737.46] Greg: one part of the mill
[2739.46] Greg: there's like a
[2741.46] Greg: a vortex turbine chamber
[2743.46] Greg: which was used I think back in the
[2745.46] Greg: 90s to generate electricity
[2747.46] Greg: another part of the
[2749.46] Greg: mill there's a load of raceways
[2751.46] Greg: which were used for breeding trout
[2753.46] Greg: so
[2755.46] Greg: we're going to update
[2757.46] Greg: and do all that
[2759.46] Greg: but we had floods in the winter
[2761.46] Greg: which was more of a lake
[2763.46] Greg: than a pond
[2765.46] Greg: but yeah it's completely dry
[2767.46] Greg: out there now and there's hardly any
[2769.46] Greg: water coming through the stream
[2771.46] Jack: yeah so this leads on
[2773.46] Jack: to lithium ion have you made
[2775.46] Jack: a power wall and will you
[2777.46] Jack: make power lithium ion packs
[2779.46] Jack: or
[2781.46] Jack: I could ask you about your goat
[2785.46] Jack: oh my god
[2787.46] Greg: I'm in control
[2789.46] Greg: oh no
[2791.46] Greg: lithium ion
[2793.46] Greg: yes, lithium ion is what
[2795.46] Greg: I want to store the energy in when we get to
[2797.46] Greg: making the electricity and the
[2799.46] Greg: goat is a pain in the
[2801.46] Greg: arse
[2803.46] Jack: that's for Donald and Greg
[2805.46] Jack: who you've talked about
[2807.46] Lee: oh dear
[2809.46] NJ: London me London
[2811.46] NJ: it's got to be Andrew
[2813.46] Curry: it's me
[2815.46] Curry: it's me
[2817.46] Curry: it's my wife's car that she got her alarm fixed
[2819.46] Curry: or I should say fixed today
[2821.46] Curry: but not fixed
[2823.46] NJ: I will mute myself until it's turned off
[2825.46] NJ: I mean do check it's not genuine
[2827.46] NJ: burglary because there is always that possibility
[2829.46] Curry: we're a very middle class area
[2831.46] Curry: we don't have car thieves here
[2833.46] Curry: we think about the Frank's area
[2835.46] Curry: oh we just don't have cars
[2837.46] Curry: there was
[2839.46] Lee: a good question from Sun
[2841.46] Lee: and Dad FPV asking
[2843.46] Lee: about the Aeropod
[2845.46] Lee: on a wing should they be placed on the
[2847.46] Lee: underside
[2849.46] Lee: really good question and
[2851.46] Lee: we didn't really cover that properly
[2853.46] Lee: no that's great
[2855.46] Greg: back to it
[2857.46] Greg: the shell of the Aeropod
[2859.46] Greg: is polycarbonate
[2861.46] Greg: injection moulded so it's really tough
[2863.46] Greg: we've designed it
[2865.46] Greg: primarily to mount
[2867.46] Greg: underneath the wing
[2869.46] Greg: the main reason
[2871.46] Greg: for that is because if you
[2873.46] Greg: say you're mounting it onto the fuselage
[2875.46] Greg: you'll have your electronics inside
[2877.46] Greg: so if it was on top
[2879.46] Greg: electronics you're stood underneath
[2881.46] Greg: so pop it underneath
[2883.46] Greg: and you're going to get a clearer signal
[2885.46] Greg: down to your FPV receiving gear
[2887.46] Greg: yeah
[2889.46] Lee: so wherever you can
[2891.46] Lee: if you can mount it underneath
[2893.46] Lee: a plane in theory should always be above
[2895.46] Lee: head height unless something's
[2897.46] Lee: really gone wrong
[2899.46] Lee: then the idea is that you always
[2901.46] Lee: have a clear visual line
[2903.46] Lee: onto the antenna at the bottom
[2905.46] Lee: one of the reasons that we end up doing
[2907.46] Lee: the Lollipop of Doom, or I do anyway
[2909.46] Lee: is because what I'm trying to do is get
[2911.46] Lee: all the active elements as far away
[2913.46] Lee: from things like the battery, flight controller
[2915.46] Lee: ESC, cabling, everything
[2917.46] Lee: else that's inside the model so that
[2919.46] Lee: the signal can come through
[2921.46] Lee: a part of the foam
[2923.46] Lee: through the plane, through the air
[2925.46] Lee: into my goggles, the idea of the
[2927.46] Lee: Aeropod is we don't have to worry about that
[2929.46] Lee: if that's popped under the wing
[2931.46] Lee: and it's here then
[2933.46] Lee: when it's above head height I'm looking
[2935.46] Lee: or the goggle antenna is looking
[2937.46] Lee: directly at the active elements
[2939.46] Lee: of the antenna there's no
[2941.46] Lee: chance of, unless you're flying upside down
[2943.46] Lee: of course, of actually being
[2945.46] Lee: on the wrong side of something like a big
[2947.46] Lee: lithium ion battery or
[2949.46] Lee: battery. And it should be only on
[2951.46] Frank: the side unless you're flying inverted
[2953.46] Frank: a lot or doing lots of trench runs
[2955.46] NJ: that's the answer. Exactly. And you should
[2957.46] NJ: have a clear line of sight all the way to the
[2959.46] NJ: ice wall too, shouldn't you?
[2961.46] NJ: Because obviously there's no curvature to worry about.
[2963.46] NJ: Just trying to make up for Tony not being here guys.
[2965.46] NJ: Alright hang on
[2967.46] Jack: let me turn
[2969.46] Jack: it away from
[2971.46] Jack: so not turning. Greg
[2973.46] Jack: where is the null
[2975.46] Jack: point?
[2977.46] Greg: The null point. Oh my word.
[2979.46] Greg: On the antennas.
[2983.46] Jack: Maybe. Unless you've got one.
[2989.46] Greg: I'm worried now.
[2991.46] Greg: Pretty much
[2993.46] Greg: every antenna has a null point
[2995.46] Greg: dead on top
[2999.25] Greg: dead on bottom.
[3001.25] Jack: Just the same. Horace.
[3003.25] Greg: Yeah. So when you
[3005.25] Greg: look at all these fabulous
[3007.25] Greg: 3D
[3009.25] Greg: sphere
[3011.25] Greg: multicolored
[3013.25] Greg: diagrams that you see on antenna
[3015.25] Greg: manufacturers
[3017.25] Greg: if you look
[3019.25] Greg: at the very top and the very bottom
[3021.25] Greg: even if it's a complete sphere
[3023.25] Greg: there will be a null point here and here
[3025.25] Greg: because it's pretty much impossible
[3027.25] Greg: to get a perfect sphere
[3029.25] Greg: from
[3031.25] Greg: the antenna.
[3033.25] Greg: And if you have a look on our website
[3035.25] Greg: you'll see the sphere for this one.
[3037.25] Jack: Oh hang on.
[3040.56] Lee: It looks suspicious
[3042.56] Lee: like all your other antennas Greg
[3044.56] Lee: which is not a surprise really
[3046.56] Jack: because it is.
[3048.56] Jack: Are you just copying and pasting the same
[3050.56] Jack: radiation
[3052.56] Greg: pattern Greg?
[3054.56] Greg: Literally the
[3056.56] Greg: end of the mirror.
[3058.56] Greg: The internals
[3060.56] Greg: of this one
[3062.56] Greg: are exactly the same as our
[3064.56] Greg: Thrasher antenna.
[3066.56] Greg: So the performance of this is exactly
[3068.56] Greg: the same as the Thrasher antenna.
[3070.56] Greg: The Thrasher antenna was a
[3072.56] Greg: slight redesign of the pagoda
[3074.56] Greg: specifically
[3076.56] Greg: to make the balen part
[3078.56] Greg: a bit smaller but also
[3080.56] Greg: the first round of antennas
[3082.56] Greg: we done we used ABS. This uses
[3084.56] Greg: polycarbonate so therefore
[3086.56] Greg: we had to make a few small changes
[3088.56] Greg: to the design.
[3090.56] Greg: So yes.
[3092.56] Lee: You've just reminded me Greg
[3094.56] Lee: something we haven't talked about.
[3096.56] Lee: I had a couple of questions
[3098.56] Lee: and we were talking about this.
[3100.56] Lee: The tune of the antenna
[3102.56] Lee: is designed so that with a polycarbonate
[3104.56] Lee: shell clipped on the top because it only clipped
[3106.56] Lee: right?
[3108.56] Lee: It looks like that. It is perfectly tuned
[3110.56] Lee: for 5.8 like all
[3112.56] Lee: the other antennas are.
[3114.56] Lee: Do not
[3116.56] Lee: put stickers, paint
[3118.56] Lee: details or anything
[3120.56] Lee: else on top of the
[3122.56] Lee: polycarbonate shell because
[3124.56] Lee: you will affect the tune.
[3126.56] Lee: So just like we've talked about
[3128.56] Lee: that looks very familiar.
[3130.56] Lee: It's a proper little radar then.
[3132.56] Lee: So you have to be really
[3134.56] Lee: carefully. Definitely don't paint it
[3136.56] Lee: with any paint with things like metal flaking
[3138.56] Lee: that would be really bad.
[3140.56] Lee: But even things like putting decals,
[3142.56] Lee: stickers,
[3144.56] Lee: laminating foam, if you're going to have
[3146.56] Lee: any of those on your model put the Aeropod
[3148.56] Lee: on top of that not
[3150.56] Lee: underneath because otherwise you'll affect the performance.
[3152.56] Lee: TPU as well. Keep that away.
[3154.56] Curry: Does that mean if you
[3156.56] Curry: cracked or lost a little
[3158.56] Curry: cover for it you should replace that because that's part
[3160.56] Curry: of the tuning or takes into account
[3162.56] Curry: the tuning? Yeah if you take the cover
[3164.56] Greg: off the tuning chips.
[3166.56] Greg: Right. So whilst
[3168.56] Greg: it would still work it will not work
[3170.56] Greg: optimally. So you
[3172.56] Greg: really need to have it
[3174.56] Greg: as is. So yes
[3176.56] Greg: if you did lose
[3178.56] Greg: the cover or break the cover
[3180.56] Greg: then yeah you
[3182.56] Greg: need to put a replacement on.
[3184.56] Frank: Does that mean that we can get... Why can't we
[3186.56] Greg: buy a replacement
[3188.56] Greg: cover? Also
[3190.56] Jack: you're a replacement cover and you've broken
[3192.56] Jack: it already.
[3194.56] Lee: He already owned it
[3196.56] Lee: 50 minutes ago.
[3198.56] Curry: He heard someone stepped
[3200.56] Curry: on him back at the warehouse.
[3202.56] Lee: Does that mean
[3204.56] Frank: that there's the possibility that we can like
[3206.56] Frank: buy different covers
[3208.56] Frank: tuned to different frequencies?
[3210.56] Frank: So like Tony you're always
[3212.56] Frank: flying on R1 because you've got button
[3214.56] Frank: VCXs that you haven't connected up to smart
[3216.56] Frank: audio. You can have a special R1
[3218.56] Frank: tuned cover.
[3220.56] Greg: Well
[3222.56] Greg: you don't tune the cover for the antenna
[3224.56] Greg: you tune the antenna
[3226.56] Greg: for the cover.
[3228.56] Greg: So
[3230.56] Greg: if you wanted specifically
[3232.56] Greg: built antennas
[3234.56] Greg: for optimum I mean
[3236.56] Greg: the centre frequency
[3238.56] Greg: is set at each of those
[3240.56] Greg: racebands. You would
[3242.56] Greg: end up with eight complete
[3244.56] Greg: different antennas.
[3246.56] Lee: Although who knows
[3248.56] Lee: what's in the spares bin Greg?
[3250.56] Lee: If there's one up
[3252.56] Lee: there you might be able to stick it in the
[3254.56] Lee: stuff you're about to send Jack.
[3256.56] Jack: Yeah.
[3258.56] Jack: What was that?
[3260.56] Jack: It's fine.
[3262.56] Frank: A lovely
[3264.56] Frank: hen party gift.
[3266.56] Jack: Greg is not making
[3268.56] Jack: willy-shaped antennas.
[3270.56] Jack: One of the other ideas
[3272.56] Lee: I've given to Greg
[3276.35] Lee: that's slightly less controversial
[3278.35] Lee: was I did say to Greg he should
[3280.35] Lee: do special editions of his antennas
[3282.35] Lee: in different colours.
[3284.35] Lee: So I think that's a good idea.
[3286.35] Lee: But I think that's quite a good idea
[3288.35] Lee: but apparently it's something to do with
[3290.35] Lee: because it's all PCB based.
[3292.35] Lee: You're saying Greg it's the colour of the PCBs
[3294.35] Lee: you can use.
[3296.35] Lee: Yeah.
[3298.35] Lee: Yeah.
[3300.35] Lee: Yeah.
[3302.35] Lee: Yeah.
[3304.35] Lee: Yeah.
[3306.35] Lee: Yeah.
[3308.35] Lee: Yeah.
[3310.35] Lee: Yeah.
[3312.35] Lee: Yeah.
[3314.35] Lee: And Greg it's the colour of the PCBs
[3316.35] Lee: you can get it in or something?
[3318.35] Greg: There's only a certain number of colour PCBs
[3320.35] Greg: plus our
[3322.35] Greg: our inventory go
[3324.35] Greg: through the roof.
[3326.35] Greg: So yeah.
[3328.35] Greg: We have got a lot of SKUs
[3330.35] Greg: as it is. I mean just
[3332.35] Greg: for this one
[3334.35] Greg: antenna
[3336.35] Greg: with the three different
[3338.35] Greg: connectors there's six
[3340.35] Greg: different SKUs for it.
[3342.35] Greg: Then I'm sure I'm going to
[3344.35] Greg: get asked on these little
[3346.35] Greg: extensions because these are 15
[3348.35] Greg: centimetres that people are going to want
[3350.35] Greg: 25 or 30
[3352.35] Greg: versions or
[3354.35] Greg: 5 centimetres or whatever.
[3356.35] Greg: So the SKUs for that is going to grow
[3358.35] Greg: ridiculously with the
[3360.35] Greg: extensions.
[3362.35] Greg: So yeah.
[3364.35] Lee: The bottom line is
[3366.35] Lee: we're not going to get any different colours are we Greg?
[3368.35] Lee: That's what you're saying.
[3370.35] Lee: They're all like Ford cars.
[3372.35] Lee: Yeah.
[3374.35] Lee: Any colour you want so long as it's black
[3376.35] Lee: or black and white if it's the Viper.
[3378.35] Frank: This is Greg politely saying
[3380.35] Frank: wind your neck in Lee.
[3382.35] Lee: I'm still going to chip away.
[3384.35] Lee: There's at least another
[3386.35] Lee: five pint conversations before I give up.
[3388.35] Lee: It's just something that nobody
[3390.35] Lee: else is doing and I was even joking
[3392.35] Lee: for some of the
[3394.35] Lee: things for charity
[3396.35] Lee: and stuff. If you could ever get it worked out
[3398.35] Lee: for every antenna that you did,
[3400.35] Lee: you'd do a donation and things like that. It was a whole
[3402.35] Lee: idea but turns out the PCBs
[3404.35] Lee: don't come in those colours.
[3406.35] Lee: And you can't paint the PCBs of course because
[3408.35] Lee: then you're back where we were a minute ago.
[3410.35] Lee: If you paint the PCBs you change the tuning
[3412.35] Lee: and that then means the antennas don't
[3414.35] Lee: perform optimally so you can't do that either.
[3416.35] Curry: Perhaps if you find
[3418.35] Curry: the right material you can
[3420.35] Curry: just send Lee a pack of crayons and he can
[3422.35] Curry: colour in his little antenna.
[3424.35] Curry: You know what I'm quite
[3426.35] Lee: happy to crayon in my painless
[3428.35] Lee: pill on an antenna.
[3430.35] Lee: That would keep me quiet for a good half an hour.
[3432.35] Jack: Don't put in my box
[3434.35] Jack: and send it to me, my order.
[3436.35] Jack: But
[3438.35] Jack: can you just screen print
[3440.35] Jack: your own
[3442.35] Jack: PCBs? Don't hurt me Greg.
[3446.35] Lee: We could
[3448.35] Greg: but we use
[3450.35] Greg: a very reputable PCB
[3452.35] Greg: company and
[3454.35] Greg: they manufacture stuff
[3456.35] Greg: to amazingly high tolerances
[3458.35] Greg: and I suppose we could get
[3460.35] Greg: the PCBs made and then screen them
[3462.35] Greg: ourselves but
[3464.35] Lee: yeah.
[3466.35] Lee: Hang on a minute.
[3468.35] Lee: Hang on a minute.
[3472.35] Lee: Give me more beer.
[3474.35] Frank: I'm looking forward
[3476.35] Frank: to hearing what
[3478.35] Frank: happens later this
[3480.35] Frank: year because I don't know if everyone's
[3482.35] Frank: heard but Western Park has been confirmed
[3484.35] Frank: to be happening
[3486.35] Frank: although it is happening in October
[3488.35] Frank: which is not the usual mid-June
[3490.35] Frank: weather that Western
[3492.35] Frank: Park is known for but they are
[3494.35] Frank: also known for their
[3496.35] Frank: pretty impressive
[3498.35] Frank: night display
[3500.35] Frank: and considering
[3502.35] Frank: October night will be most of the
[3504.35] Frank: day, there will be a
[3506.35] Frank: lot of night flying I imagine.
[3508.35] Lee: I'm definitely going.
[3510.35] Lee: I just want to hang out with everyone in the
[3512.35] Lee: hobby. I've just been starved of that for the last
[3514.35] Lee: all the really good stuff and bumping into people
[3516.35] Lee: and having a laugh and swapping stories
[3518.35] Lee: and messing about.
[3520.35] Lee: I can't wait for Western Park. Even if I have to
[3522.35] Lee: wear wellies and a kagool, I'm
[3524.35] Lee: going.
[3526.35] Greg: I'm just going to start.
[3528.35] Greg: Another NSRC product that I wasn't aware of.
[3530.35] Greg: Yes.
[3532.35] Greg: Have you heard of a company called
[3534.35] Greg: Teespring? They
[3536.35] Greg: do masks
[3538.35] Greg: and we thought
[3540.35] Greg: right, let's chuck our logos and artwork
[3542.35] Greg: onto some masks
[3544.35] Greg: and put them up on Teespring.
[3546.35] Greg: We've got a little NSRC Teespring
[3548.35] Greg: shop. There's three masks on there.
[3550.35] Greg: Three designs. One with a dude, one with
[3552.35] Greg: a hand and another one just
[3554.35] Greg: with a logo.
[3556.35] Greg: At this time
[3558.35] Greg: it's sort of like we could sell
[3560.35] Greg: these. We could make a few quid
[3562.35] Greg: but we said right, all the
[3564.35] Greg: sales of those masks, all the
[3566.35] Greg: sales, we donate to charity
[3568.35] Greg: and we're going to donate them to the Mind charity
[3570.35] Greg: which is the mental health
[3572.35] Greg: charity.
[3574.35] Curry: That's up in a way.
[3576.35] Curry: That's very good because we had the same
[3578.35] Curry: idea with masks but we were just going to keep all the
[3580.35] Curry: profits
[3582.35] Curry: by Greg's masks instead
[3584.35] Jack: and donate to a worthy cause.
[3590.35] Lee: At least you've done a pink one in
[3592.35] Lee: those masks Greg.
[3594.35] Lee: My order one, good man.
[3596.35] Lee: It's on a little bit of what
[3598.35] Lee: I keep banging on about.
[3600.35] Lee: One for the girls.
[3604.35] Frank: We're coming up to the
[3606.35] Frank: end of the hour.
[3608.35] Frank: It'd probably be worth mentioning that next
[3610.35] Frank: week, because
[3612.35] Frank: we've actually got quite a few
[3614.35] Frank: weeks of shows lined
[3616.35] Frank: up. It's all getting
[3618.35] Frank: organised. It's not healthy.
[3620.35] Frank: We're all going to come out in hives or something.
[3622.35] Frank: Next week, we do
[3624.35] Frank: have
[3626.35] Frank: Steven from Open HD.
[3628.35] Frank: We'll be back on hopefully not
[3630.35] Frank: being taken out by a tree.
[3632.35] Frank: So,
[3634.35] Frank: we'll see.
[3636.35] Curry: We should mention he wasn't taken out by a tree
