[239.32] BlueOwl: I remember that last year I could still follow all the ladies and I knew you know if there was a new face out there I was sure I was staying on top of it.

[256.32] MG: I've been like checking last time like someone followed me and I was like I don't know I've seen like five or six more ladies.

[266.32] Mako: And we actually have a discord for the females that fly and I think we're at 60 members now.

[316.32] Mako: I've definitely gotten more confident with it with this recent trip up north because we all we did was fly over the ocean.

[326.32] Mako: So I'm prepared to get out there again and try to go maybe a mile and a half this time.
[330.32] Mako: I've pretty much hit that and maybe maybe even two miles.
[334.32] Mako: But it's scary once you get out there.
[336.32] Mako: It's like am I going to make it back.
[338.32] MG: That's nice anyway two miles.

[348.32] MG: Yeah to be honest I wanted to say like when I'm flying on an abandoned spot I'm like more stressed out than when I'm flying above the water.

[359.32] MG: I know that maybe like a lot of people saying to me like you will say until you will crash and stuff like that.
[365.32] MG: But I really enjoyed that.
[366.32] MG: So that's why I'm doing like more stuff like this.

[523.7] Curry: So I've got to say I watched all the it was ripping ovaries last year wasn't it.

[532.7] Curry: I'm really looking forward to seeing who's out there because sometimes we just don't notice new pilots.

[542.7] Curry: So it's really good to have a competition to bring people together.
[545.7] Curry: So I'll find new people to follow and stuff and watch videos from.

[553.7] Curry: So you do your first round and then there's finalists go on to sort of the next round.
[557.7] Curry: And is it going to be the same video in contest or do they make a new video or something for the next round or how does it work.
[565.7] BlueOwl: It's a new video every time.
[567.7] BlueOwl: So like you said it's three rounds and a bunch of girls I think five to eight people go to the second round and then the final round.
[575.7] BlueOwl: I think it's three people as far as I remember from from last year.
[579.7] BlueOwl: So it will depend on the number of people who enter.
[583.7] BlueOwl: But like I said I hope to get a lot of submissions.
[587.7] BlueOwl: So I think we'll end up with eight in the second round and three in the last round.

[649.7] BlueOwl: Well it's kind of a long story.
[653.7] BlueOwl: So I'm also a professional drone pilot.
[655.7] BlueOwl: Probably not many people know that.
[657.7] BlueOwl: But I thought I had the coolest job ever.
[662.7] BlueOwl: My dream job until November last year.
[666.7] BlueOwl: And after that I found an even better job.
[669.7] BlueOwl: Right now I'm working as well.
[671.7] BlueOwl: I work in an NGO with developing countries where we have local groups of drone pilots.
[677.7] BlueOwl: We train.
[678.7] BlueOwl: We support them.
[679.7] BlueOwl: We give them access to the technology.
[682.7] BlueOwl: And it's been just so time consuming and energy consuming.
[687.7] BlueOwl: And paired up with the whole coronavirus situation.
[691.7] BlueOwl: I was just kind of out of energy.
[693.7] BlueOwl: You know.
[694.7] BlueOwl: I think I had a little bit of a crisis.
[696.7] BlueOwl: But that doesn't mean I stopped flying.

[699.7] BlueOwl: My clothes are still up and running in a good condition.

[705.7] BlueOwl: I just needed a while to just do it for myself instead of posting the videos out there.

[966.3] BlueOwl: I know that most people find the opposite, but it's so relaxing to fly the wings.
[972.3] BlueOwl: For me, my comfort zone are the quads, the ones that crash hard and they fly super fast.
[979.3] BlueOwl: Then you can land wherever you want, but the wing, it just keeps flying forward.
[984.3] BlueOwl: Then I already started thinking, oh, I'm going to have to love this thing.
[992.3] BlueOwl: No, this has been really stressful.
[995.3] BlueOwl: It's probably because I haven't flown it enough, but still, not my thing.
[999.3] Curry: I think what can happen is typically quad pilots, when they first get a wing, is they fly it
[1003.3] Curry: like a quad, which is very fast, very low down.
[1005.3] Curry: Of course, they shake about a lot.
[1007.3] Curry: They're like, oh, my God, this isn't very smooth.
[1009.3] Curry: Of course, you should be 100 meters up cruising around.
[1012.3] Curry: Then you're like, oh, this is chill.
[1014.3] Curry: I can do this for 20 minutes without thinking about it.
[1016.3] Curry: Yeah, it's not for everyone, but I love it.
[1019.3] Curry: I love mixing it up and trying to get all sorts of things in.
[1022.3] Curry: I like the fact that, Mako, you're doing some crawler stuff.
[1025.3] Curry: I find that's really good fun.
[1027.3] Curry: Have you tried FPVing it because the camera angles that you have when you're trying to get over stuff

[1323.3] BlueOwl: And then I was picking up my quad and I literally had to drop it.

[1374.3] Tony: and then a couple of bends sweeping all the technical too small.

[1384.3] Mako: But then you have to throw in one spot where you can just full throttle across or something.

[1403.3] Mako: And then they had the speed gun to see how fast you're going and the fastest one.

[1679.67] BlueOwl: So if, you know, if I was thinking about racing right now,
[1684.67] BlueOwl: it's just not possible.
[1686.67] BlueOwl: My throttle control is totally wrecked.
[1689.67] BlueOwl: My, you know, yeah, it's such a completely different style.
[1694.67] BlueOwl: It gives you a lot, but it also takes away a lot of stuff.
[1698.67] BlueOwl: So yeah, nature trees are forgiving more than, you know,
[1703.67] Tony: yeah, I'm with you there.
[1705.67] Tony: So what camera tilt are you running?
[1708.67] BlueOwl: So it's almost 70 degrees.

[1715.67] BlueOwl: It's basically the maximum that you can do because if you go higher
[1719.67] BlueOwl: than that, then you're just going to crash into the ground.

[1763.67] BlueOwl: So I found that I am more gentle when it comes to throttle.
[1768.67] BlueOwl: So I use less throttle than my friends who also fly high-tunes.
[1771.67] BlueOwl: Well, there are not many of us, but I don't know if it's, you know,
[1776.67] BlueOwl: a guy versus a girl thing that we just use a little bit less throttle
[1781.67] BlueOwl: or we're a bit more gentle on the sticks.
[1784.67] BlueOwl: But I can fly for about three and a half to four minutes while,
[1790.67] BlueOwl: or maybe a little more sometimes.
[1792.67] BlueOwl: But, you know, I'm very conservative with the batteries.
[1795.67] BlueOwl: And I fly five minutes.
[1797.67] Curry: Five minutes.
[1798.67] Curry: What's landing like?
[1799.67] Curry: You're just like, I can see some sky.
[1802.67] Curry: I just cut the throttle.
[1804.67] Tony: As soon as you turn your quad on, you're literally, oh, there's a sky.
[1808.67] Tony: I can't see any.
[1809.67] Tony: Yeah.
[1810.67] BlueOwl: That's more or less that.
[1812.67] BlueOwl: So landings are very sketchy unless you learn to land line of sight.
[1818.67] BlueOwl: So usually if I have, you know, my usual, if I fly in my usual spots,
[1824.67] BlueOwl: I usually try to find two trees with like leaves above so that I can sort
[1830.67] BlueOwl: of orient it or I know where I am.
[1834.67] BlueOwl: Right.
[1835.67] BlueOwl: So I need to go in between these trees and then I see whether I'm going
[1838.67] BlueOwl: forward or backwards or if I'm like raising or tolling.
[1841.67] BlueOwl: But that's the only way because you can't see the ground.
[1844.67] BlueOwl: So yeah, usually it's line of sight.
[1847.67] Tony: Wow.
[1848.67] BlueOwl: It is sketchy.
[1850.67] Tony: Has anyone else tried flying 65 degrees?
[1855.67] Curry: No, I've got problems enough landing at about 40 degrees.
[1859.67] Curry: But if I can't see my landing, because I come, my field at the moment,
[1862.67] Curry: it's like three or four feet of grass and I've got a landing map.
[1865.67] Curry: But as you come in low, it's like I'm just looking upwards.
[1869.67] Curry: So I'm having, I use myself as a reference point.
[1872.67] Curry: If I can see my head, that's probably far enough and I can stop and just drop
[1875.67] Curry: there.
[1876.67] Curry: So that's that's crazy.
[1878.67] Curry: I mean, it's always interesting when we when we talk to different people
[1881.67] Curry: and because you're saying, oh, I'm quite gentle with the throttle.
[1884.67] Curry: And here's me thinking like 65 degrees camera means you're going crazy.

[1889.67] Curry: So it's it's a different way of flying.
