[5.0] Curry: We record the show live on the Thursday night on youtube.com forward slash Let's Drone Out [9.8] Curry: and our lovely patrons help with the editing costs. [12.2] (Patrons): These are Wacky Wes, Mikey Dread, Art Faulkner, Carlos Campos. [19.0] Tony: Thank you. [51.19] Jack: Hello and welcome back to another fantastic episode of Let's Drone Out. [57.19] Jack: Somehow struggling along within lockdown. [60.19] Jack: Tonight, we are joined by the beautiful, wonderful, talented and very intelligent Blue Owl. [66.19] BlueOwl: Yes, it's me. [68.19] BlueOwl: I was wondering. [70.19] Jack: All those things, but not that beautiful. [72.19] Jack: More in pain and definitely smarter than me. [76.19] Jack: Everyone's favorite, Curry Kitten. [78.19] Jack: Still beautiful. [79.19] Jack: Hello. [81.19] Jack: Bonjour. [82.19] Jack: And our lord, overlord and master. [86.19] Jack: Please protect us from the horrible people that send us emails. [90.19] Jack: Andries Frank. [91.19] Jack: Good evening. [92.19] Jack: And I'm bright until I fly. [94.19] Jack: Anything I say or anyone else is personal views only and not reflected to the show. [100.19] Jack: I am especially an idiot and I can't express enough. [106.19] Jack: Please don't hurt us or sir. [112.19] Tony: Hello, Wacky Wes from Hong Kong. [115.19] Curry: It's already Friday there, Tony, so he's probably drinking. [119.19] Tony: Stop it, you lot. [120.19] Curry: Everyone's drinking except for Tony because Tony has decided he needs to be Friday for drinking. [126.19] Curry: And this is the one night we do drink. [128.19] Curry: Well, one night. [130.19] Tony: That's for your evil. [136.19] Jack: Well, can't help it if someone's an alcoholic. [140.19] Tony: Well, obviously I'm not because I'm only doing it Friday and Saturday. [145.19] Frank: That's how that works. [147.19] Jack: I've got a bit of FPV news for you. [150.19] Curry: What? [151.19] Curry: Well, we don't do that here. [152.19] Curry: You've got that wrong. [153.19] Curry: Wrong podcast. [155.19] Curry: Is it a parallel universe where people can go outside? [159.19] Jack: I ordered a Matek F405. [164.19] Jack: I looked at the review from the awesome Andrew Newton about the Matek 405 SEW, something with the external USB. [178.19] Jack: I couldn't bring myself to buy it because even though it was the same price, I was like, [185.19] Jack: USB type C, not quite ready for that. [188.19] Jack: And the other thing is I was concerned about the filtering. [195.19] Jack: So I've picked one of those up and I've ordered, fingers crossed, a GPS module from Banggood. [203.19] Jack: So I will be working back on the Flight Test Explorer. [210.19] Curry: So what's wrong with USB type C? [213.19] Curry: You realise it's just a different end to a cable and you can still plug the other end into your computer. [219.19] Jack: Yeah, but nothing else is on it. [221.19] Jack: What do you mean nothing else is on it? [223.19] Curry: Loads of things are on it. [224.19] Curry: For example, I took this out of the package today. [227.19] Curry: This may look like the Bida flight, no Bida FPV controller that I had before, but this is the SE. [233.19] Curry: And that has... [235.19] Jack: What does SE say for special edition? [238.19] Curry: Special edition. [239.19] Curry: It hasn't got a battery. [240.19] Curry: It's got an internal battery and it's got a USB type C adapter. [243.19] Curry: And if you plug it into a Mac, your mouse goes mental because they've buggered up the head settings and haven't done it right. [249.19] Curry: That's what I found out so far about it. [252.19] Curry: So I can't redefine any controllers on my SIM because the mouse pointer is busy going like this over the corner of the screen. [258.19] Curry: Oops. [260.19] Frank: Excellent random number generator, though. [264.19] Frank: Yeah. [266.19] Frank: Well, pseudo-random, if we're going to be technical about that. [268.19] Frank: Yeah, right. [270.19] Frank: But if it's from an actual physical process, doesn't that maybe be random? [277.19] Curry: Whatever. [279.19] Curry: Good thing then, Jack, because you were talking about taking a different wing apart when I spoke to you the other day. [284.19] Curry: Yeah, that might be a lot. [286.19] Curry: That would be a bad thing to do because any other things aren't flying at the time. [290.19] Jack: Yeah, I'm going to I'm going to molest the as you as you know, I. [297.19] Jack: I've got to stop using that word for casual things. [300.19] Jack: But, yep, I am going to ruin my S800 and get in there and take the old flight controller because that's got a wing may take wing board adapter and a normal four or five, which means the USB is completely pointing in the wrong direction. [319.19] Jack: But we'll be perfect for the for the flight desk explorer. [325.19] Curry: This this leads us to potentially actually be questioned for everybody, doesn't it? [331.19] Curry: Because when we were talking about this the other night, we had a quick discussion and I said, why do you care about the USB adapter? [338.19] Curry: You'll set it up. [339.19] Curry: You'll sort it out. [340.19] Curry: And then unless something comes up, which is an obvious bug that is affecting you or there's an update that you specifically want because it adds a new feature, why would you update the board? [351.19] Curry: If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it. [352.19] Curry: And you were very much on the case of I think I should keep up with the updates and stuff because they're fixing all sorts of things. [359.19] Curry: And my sort of point of view is like, no, I've got loads of old quads on my flight three point one and they fly fine. [366.19] Curry: So I wouldn't touch them. [368.19] Curry: How are the rest of you guys feel about update? [371.19] Curry: Do you update as a matter, of course, because a new version comes out? [374.19] Curry: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. [376.19] Curry: No, he's he's very much on the technical edge of everything. [381.19] Curry: He'd want to get the pre pre stuff, wouldn't he? [384.19] Curry: But do you keep on what you have unless you really need to. [388.19] Tony: Yeah, I don't. I don't upgrade. [390.19] Tony: I mean, I've got I've got quads I fly on really upbeat flight stuff. [395.19] Tony: So and they fly really good. [397.19] Tony: So I don't. Well, we're upgrading until we fly nice. [401.19] Jack: There's still people on. [403.19] Jack: What is it, three point five or something? [405.19] Tony: That's what most of my stuff is. [407.19] Curry: A couple of these ones are on three one seven. [410.19] Tony: I think three one seven is pretty good. [413.19] Frank: Yeah, I think my TSX still I think my TSX is still on like clean flight probably. [419.19] Curry: That was always good. [421.19] Curry: Oh, yeah. The really old old quad up the top there, I think, is I don't think is on base flight. [425.19] Curry: I think it's at least on clean flight, but it has got like an external OSD. [431.19] Curry: That's the one I just kept around for fun because it's on like, you know, [435.19] Curry: two fifty. Yes. [437.19] Jack: The reason why I update is because many other time I want to make an adjustment or have a little fiddle around [447.19] Jack: and I plug it into a, you know, a GUI and it never works and it broke. [455.19] Jack: And, you know, you can't. [457.19] Jack: And then I was just left with the the. [461.19] Jack: What's the other thing called? [463.19] Jack: Oh, my God. Let's play dementia. [467.19] Jack: The FBI FSP. [471.19] Jack: No, no, no drivers. [474.19] Jack: No, the thingy, the terminal interface. [478.19] Jack: CLI. [479.19] Jack: CLI. That's it. [482.19] Jack: God damn it. [483.19] Curry: Is this because what you've done is you've gone and updated your configurator [488.19] Curry: and then when you come to put your old one, it says I don't know what this is anymore. [491.19] Curry: It's too old. [492.19] Jack: And you're like, you want to basically update. [494.19] Jack: I'm one of those guys. [496.19] Curry: Oh, Jesus. No. [498.19] Curry: So we expect to lose you halfway through for a Windows update during this. [502.19] Curry: Power car. [503.19] Curry: This explains a lot. [505.19] Curry: Yeah. [506.19] Curry: This now we're getting to the bottom of why his drivers on his sound is different every week. [512.19] Jack: I hunched. [517.19] Frank: There's a new release candidate for the USB driver on his motherboards. [523.19] Frank: He's updated it. [524.19] Frank: He's updated his BIOS. [526.19] Frank: There's anything that has a new flashy thing. [529.19] Frank: All right. [530.19] Jack: I'm not going to lie. [532.19] Jack: N.J. put this weird thing on my computer and it updates my drivers all the time automatically. [539.19] Curry: See cutting edge. [541.19] Curry: I'm looking at the comments. [543.19] Curry: I don't see anybody that's doing like we must update everything. [547.19] Curry: Everyone else is like it's not broken. [549.19] Curry: Don't fix it. [550.19] Curry: Talking about like a GoPro tour is a lesson about updating recently, [553.19] Curry: which is don't do it because you lose protein or something like that. [557.19] Curry: Really? [558.19] Curry: They did that. [559.19] Curry: They actually did that. [561.19] Jack: Yeah. [562.19] Jack: What is with those animals? [564.19] Jack: Well, to be fair, my kiss squad pretty much stay standard until I get bored [569.19] Jack: or I feel like I can squeeze more out of it. [572.19] BlueOwl: There are not so many updates anyway. [575.19] Jack: Yeah. [576.19] BlueOwl: I think I haven't updated. [578.19] BlueOwl: I haven't updated my FCs like any of them since the beginning for the last like two years. [585.19] BlueOwl: I haven't changed the thing apart from rates. [589.19] BlueOwl: Maybe. [590.19] Tony: Yeah. [591.19] Tony: If it flies well, there's no point, is there? [593.19] Tony: Only if there's something really good to what comes along that's worth risking one of your quads for. [600.19] Curry: So don't call the flight controller out the S800. [603.19] Curry: Leave that as it is. [604.19] Curry: Just put one in the new plane. [606.19] Curry: Configure it and then have done with it. [609.19] Jack: No, I'm doing it. [610.19] Jack: Oh, man. [612.19] Jack: Can you talk? [615.19] Curry: You're also saying that. [617.19] Curry: And then you can change the board orientation. [620.19] Jack: No, it's the light. [623.19] Jack: It's a sideways USB. [626.19] Jack: I want it to point upwards. [628.19] Jack: And that's what the new board is going to do. [631.19] Jack: It's going to play out anyway. [634.19] Jack: The F405. [636.19] Curry: But then you have to completely destroy the other plane to get it. [640.19] Jack: Oh, yeah. [641.19] Jack: Well, I haven't flown that anyway. [643.19] Jack: And then you went. [646.19] Jack: I'm sorry. [647.19] Jack: The thing I'm almost... [648.19] Tony: Oh, just let him tinker. [650.19] Curry: I'm almost to the point where... [652.19] Curry: This is what gets you into trouble. [653.19] Curry: And then one of us can get a phone call saying, so this has happened and what do I do? [659.19] Jack: No, you set off. [661.19] Jack: I'm still stuck on the effing... [665.19] Jack: Oh, what are these called? [668.19] Jack: Let's fly. [670.19] Jack: Flash it out, please. [671.19] Jack: Oh, I see. [672.19] Jack: 18 tiny. [673.19] Jack: I remember what it was. [674.19] Jack: I haven't got them in. [676.19] Jack: I haven't. [677.19] Jack: Not yet. [679.19] Tony: Yeah. [680.19] Frank: But I think the core problem here is that you want to fiddle with settings more than you actually fly them. [688.19] Frank: That seems to be the problem. [690.19] BlueOwl: What's the problem? [692.19] BlueOwl: No, I mean... [693.19] BlueOwl: I don't think it's a problem. [696.19] BlueOwl: To me, there are like four parts of FPV and flying is just one of them. [701.19] BlueOwl: And I'm not saying I don't like flying. [703.19] BlueOwl: I love flying, but there is also the building part. [706.19] BlueOwl: There is the video editing and I mean, whatever you like. [710.19] BlueOwl: If you, I don't know, prefer building and changing the settings, which I personally don't like. [718.19] BlueOwl: I mean, I'm speaking about the settings and it's fine. [721.19] BlueOwl: Just keep building and changing the settings. [724.19] Frank: I like his behavior for yourself. [727.19] Frank: I like her. [728.19] Frank: Is that the core of it, Jack? [729.19] Frank: You just enjoy pressing buttons and flashing things. [732.19] BlueOwl: More than flying. [734.19] Jack: No. [735.19] Jack: I mean, look, if I want to guarantee flight, I've got my kiss squad. [740.19] Jack: I've got it. [741.19] Jack: It's my daily. [742.19] Jack: And then I take the mechanics approach to everything else where you fiddle with it and f*** it up and break it more. [750.19] Curry: And this is why if you take your car to any other mechanic and they open up the bonnet, they go, [756.19] Curry: you've had some right cowboys in here, haven't you? [759.19] Curry: That's where it comes from. [761.19] Jack: Yeah, it's called me and Shelton. [767.19] Tony: Yeah, Jack likes the fiddle. [770.19] Tony: Flying in the editing is me. [773.19] Tony: That's my bit. [774.19] Tony: I like both of them. [775.19] Tony: Coming home, looking at the footage, putting something together. [778.19] Tony: I like that bit. [779.19] Tony: Hate fixing. [781.19] BlueOwl: You don't really like building, do you? [784.19] Curry: Hate building, hate fiddling. [785.19] Curry: No, he doesn't do building himself. [787.19] Curry: He has a trusted third party to do it for him. [790.19] Curry: He has a man that lives under the stairs. [793.19] Jack: He can't even do it right. [795.19] Jack: He has to still come and visit me. [798.19] Tony: When things do go wrong, we do come and visit you, Jack. [802.19] Jack: Yeah. [803.19] Jack: And that's good. [805.19] Jack: I'm not trying to make excuses for myself, [809.19] Jack: but I do not have bits left over. [813.19] Jack: Thank you very much. [814.19] Jack: I feel in my car, I usually do because I dropped like bolts [820.19] Jack: where I can't get them. [821.19] Jack: And I'm like, which I should not admit I'm here. [828.19] Curry: Professionally qualified mechanic, everybody. [830.19] Curry: This is the sort of level we're looking at. [834.19] Jack: You don't need four bolts for that. [837.19] Frank: That only holds the wheel on. [839.19] Frank: It's not important. [840.19] Jack: No, that is important. [842.19] Jack: That is very important. [844.19] Jack: Not so bad. [845.19] Jack: But the little fixture that holds my seat belt. [850.19] Jack: No. [851.19] Jack: Windscreen in. [853.19] Frank: Steering wheel. [854.19] Jack: Shut up. [855.19] Jack: Engine. [857.19] Jack: Engine management. [862.19] Jack: There's like a little bracket on the side, [866.19] Jack: and it doesn't need three bolts. [869.19] Jack: It's only got two in. [870.19] Jack: So, you know. [873.19] Frank: That's definitely a problem with vibration. [876.19] Frank: I mean, that's well known. [878.19] Frank: Electrical connection is absolutely fine with that. [880.19] Jack: Yeah. [881.19] Jack: And when I replaced the air con switch, [886.19] Jack: the demyst back button, windscreen button thing, [889.19] Jack: the little module that that was in, [891.19] Jack: I dropped one of the screws in there, [893.19] Jack: and I only got that out the other day [895.19] Jack: with the use of several McDonald's drawers. [897.19] Jack: I just saved them up. [900.19] Jack: And it sticks a bleat out from the end, [902.19] Jack: and I've got that out, and that's in my cup holder. [906.19] Jack: So, as long as no one hovers the inside of my car, [909.19] Jack: that might go back in one day. [911.19] Frank: Who besides you is likely to hoover your car? [915.19] Jack: Dan, Dan's very, I've made a new friend. [919.19] Jack: Fridays, when you don't see me, [921.19] Jack: I've made some friends with some kids. [924.19] Tony: New friend, friend. [926.19] Jack: New friend. [927.19] Jack: I've got a work room. [929.19] Jack: And they play, like we were playing Minecraft, [934.19] Jack: and then we got into a bit of seven days to die [939.19] Jack: and stuff like that. [940.19] Frank: I thought they were going to be like a local, [942.19] Frank: I thought they were going to be a local Roomba users group. [945.19] Jack: No, I haven't found my people yet, [948.19] Jack: but when I do, when I do, like... [952.19] Curry: They found out the Roombas were holding them hostage [955.19] Curry: and walking the doors. [957.19] Jack: The Roomba likes to lock me out, not in yet. [961.19] Jack: If I was in, at least I can get to the Roomba. [965.19] Jack: But me and Curry have been reminiscing [969.19] Jack: over Final Fantasy VII. [972.19] Jack: It's been a good time. [973.19] Curry: We have, but we both played different versions of it. [975.19] Curry: You finished the original, I finished a new one. [978.19] Curry: So now we have to swap categories over [981.19] Curry: and I finish the original and you go... [983.19] Jack: I can't play it because I don't own a PS4. [986.19] Jack: So if anyone wants to see a PS4, let me know. [990.19] Frank: That's one of these films that occasionally requires you [998.19] Frank: to go through a menu to find the next chapter, right? [1001.19] Frank: It's just a really awkward DVD, Final Fantasy. [1005.19] Jack: Yeah, pretty much. [1007.19] Jack: And then the original ones like watching some sort of Lego movie [1011.19] Jack: before CPI, like me with actual Lego. [1015.19] Jack: And the Legos been on fire a bit and melted [1019.19] Jack: and has been chewed by a dog. [1021.19] Jack: But the story is beautiful. [1023.19] Jack: I'm very close to my heart. [1025.19] Tony: So are we changing the podcast from DVD to mechanics [1030.19] Tony: and... [1032.19] Curry: Well, we just have to go with what we've got at the moment. [1036.19] Curry: But hands up, who's flown something this week? [1039.19] BlueOwl: Me. [1041.19] BlueOwl: Does the stim count? [1043.19] BlueOwl: Yes. [1044.19] Curry: Have you registered it with the CEO? [1047.19] Curry: Everyone then, except for Jack. [1050.19] Jack: I have. [1052.19] Jack: None of them work [1054.19] Jack: because I also like to take them apart. [1060.34] Jack: Yeah. [1061.34] Jack: If anyone needs a spare graphics chip, let me know. [1063.34] Jack: I've got one. [1065.34] Jack: All right. [1066.34] BlueOwl: We'll do. [1067.34] BlueOwl: Yeah, we did some sim, curriculum sim on Saturday. [1074.34] BlueOwl: That was Tony Frank and myself. [1078.34] Curry: And we had several as well. [1080.34] Curry: And you were doing a lot of 65 degree stuff, weren't you? [1083.34] BlueOwl: Exactly, yeah. [1085.34] BlueOwl: That's kind of challenging for me [1087.34] BlueOwl: because I got the rates completely backwards. [1090.34] Jack: Yeah. [1091.34] Jack: You want to explain what happened there? [1093.34] BlueOwl: So... [1095.34] BlueOwl: I actually... [1096.34] BlueOwl: You know what? [1097.34] BlueOwl: I blame Corey Kitten. [1099.34] BlueOwl: He switched the extra. [1101.34] BlueOwl: He switched the extra and the super rate. [1104.34] BlueOwl: So I got confused. [1107.34] BlueOwl: And then... [1108.34] BlueOwl: Okay. [1109.34] BlueOwl: So instead of putting 0.03, I used 0.3. [1115.34] BlueOwl: But still, I switched the extra and the super rate. [1120.34] Curry: It doesn't matter how to count or read labels. [1123.34] Curry: But apart from that, fair enough. [1126.34] BlueOwl: Okay. [1127.34] Jack: At least you weren't mocked by your teenage daughter [1130.34] Jack: like I was today, who wanted to know my qualifications. [1134.34] Jack: That is like the lowest point in my life. [1137.34] Jack: The most wise teenage girl. [1139.34] Curry: Yes, but then you refused to tell her [1141.34] Curry: you didn't exactly put that fire out. [1143.34] Curry: I said she had a degree and she's like, [1146.34] Curry: what, in what? [1148.34] Curry: In fine art? [1150.34] Curry: And she went... [1154.34] Jack: He basically went, do you want fries or that? [1157.34] Jack: She was like, pick me whilst I was down. [1160.34] Jack: Stop flying. [1161.34] Tony: We've all grown up out of that. [1163.34] Curry: So the big question, Tony, [1165.34] Curry: is did you try and fly the sim [1168.34] Curry: whilst not drinking beer to see if you could do [1171.34] Curry: the inverted orbit? [1173.34] Curry: Because you were having considerable trouble with that. [1176.34] Tony: I did do it though. [1178.34] Tony: After about 10 attempts. [1180.34] Tony: Come on. [1181.34] Tony: Just blew out, Frank. [1183.34] Tony: Wow. [1186.34] Tony: You looked like through the footage, God damn it. [1190.34] Tony: I'll tell you what, I was drunk. [1194.34] Tony: It was Saturday. [1196.34] Tony: It's my drinking days, as you know, [1198.34] Tony: and I thought it was Saturday. [1201.34] UNKNOWN: But I did it. [1202.34] Tony: You two would say, well done. [1204.34] Tony: Yes, you were upside down. [1206.34] Tony: Unless you were teasing me and I wasn't upside down [1208.34] Tony: and I didn't know because I was drunk. [1211.34] BlueOwl: I'll tell you what, Tony, next time, [1214.34] BlueOwl: if you're not joining the sim session, [1216.34] BlueOwl: I'm not joining either because it's just so entertaining. [1220.34] BlueOwl: This must be boring without you. [1224.34] Tony: I'm glad I entertain you. [1226.34] Tony: I'm trying to be an excavator trying to fly upside down. [1231.34] Curry: It was also quite good fun because I watched it [1234.34] Curry: all the way back to things that went wrong [1237.34] Curry: and I did notice that the crane had gone wrong. [1239.34] Curry: But also the fact that no one could work out [1242.34] Curry: what a cartwheel was. [1243.34] Curry: I absolutely knew what you were talking about, Tony. [1245.34] Curry: Everybody else was like, I don't understand. [1247.34] Curry: What do you mean? [1248.34] Curry: They were just doing spins and things. [1250.34] Tony: Oh, Frank was hilarious trying to do it. [1252.34] Tony: He was such a simple thing to do and Frank was like, [1255.34] Tony: I don't know. [1256.34] Tony: I can't do it. [1258.34] Frank: I didn't understand what you were talking about. [1262.34] Frank: He was like, keep the... [1264.34] Frank: Yeah, that was eventually what I saw someone else do. [1269.34] Frank: So that was what they were asking for. [1271.34] Frank: But they were saying, just look at the building [1273.34] Frank: and then go sideways. [1275.34] BlueOwl: There's so many ways in which you can look at the building [1279.34] BlueOwl: and then go sideways. [1282.34] Curry: Tony trying to explain things while slightly drunk [1285.34] Curry: is worse than Tony just trying to explain things [1287.34] Curry: when not drunk, which... [1288.34] Tony: Well, it's not that bad. [1291.34] Tony: So also I flew Sunday. [1293.34] Tony: I went out for a walk with a friend and went for a fly. [1298.34] Tony: Flew this again. [1301.34] Curry: How is that doing now? [1303.34] Curry: Because you were talking about getting... [1304.34] Curry: I saw you posting a link to some different types of batteries, [1307.34] Curry: some what, lithium ions, were they? [1309.34] Tony: Yeah, I still haven't got anything like that anymore yet. [1313.34] Tony: I'm still flying the 6S2200, which has given me like [1317.34] Tony: on a warm day, 12 minutes, on a cold day, 10. [1322.34] Tony: But this is for sale now at FossilStuff.com. [1326.34] Tony: The Tomahawk. [1328.34] Tony: It's ready for sale. [1331.34] Tony: I think there's five in stock at the moment. [1336.34] Tony: Cool. [1338.34] Tony: But yeah, I'm loving it. [1340.34] Tony: I'm looking forward to summer and taking it [1342.34] Tony: along the beach early morning for a really long trip. [1346.34] Tony: I think we're all supposed to be holidaying in the UK, aren't we? [1352.34] Tony: Because Matt Hancock says that he's going to Devon [1357.34] Tony: and we all should go and stay in the country. [1361.34] Frank: Unfortunately, the Dorset Knob Festival has been cancelled. [1366.34] Tony: Well, Jack's not going then. [1369.34] Curry: I'm the chairman. [1373.34] Curry: I feel anywhere we turn up, there's a Knob Festival happening. [1380.34] Tony: The only thing I am disappointed in is this GPS. [1385.34] Tony: It still takes so long for it to work. [1389.34] Tony: I was like... [1390.34] Curry: Moving it around a bit. [1393.34] Tony: Well, it's right at the back there, [1396.34] Tony: but it's just so small. [1398.34] Tony: I've seen the brain free, didn't you? [1400.34] Tony: It works faster, but sorry, Jack. [1404.34] Jack: Would you like me to configure it for you? [1408.34] Jack: Well, fiddle around with it. [1410.34] Jack: Well, yeah, I mean, like, you know, [1413.34] Jack: is it GLANOS or whatever? [1416.34] Jack: GLONASS. [1417.34] Jack: GLONASS, that's it. [1419.34] Jack: And set it to you block seven and stuff like that. [1422.34] Jack: That might help. [1423.34] Tony: Maybe if that will help, yeah. [1425.34] Tony: Otherwise, I was thinking about getting the brain free D1 [1428.34] Tony: because I've seen that. [1429.34] Curry: You're using crossfire now. [1431.34] Curry: Are you using telemetry on crossfire? [1433.34] Curry: No. [1437.34] Curry: I had a GPS that did not like telemetry on 868. [1442.34] Tony: I have reduced the number of SATs to, I think, safely. [1448.34] Tony: It's six, I heard. [1452.34] Tony: So I think I put it for six or something like that. [1455.34] Curry: It's only beater flight anyway, [1457.34] Curry: so return from home is sort of crashed closely. [1459.34] Tony: I don't run this on beater flight. [1461.34] Tony: I run it on EMU flight. [1463.34] Curry: Well, they don't do a proper return to home, do they? [1466.34] Tony: Well, it's not much of the return to home. [1469.34] Tony: That would be literally if I panic [1472.34] Tony: and just press the button and hope it comes home. [1475.34] Tony: And that's if I lose orientation or whatever, [1478.34] Tony: or my goggles fail on. [1480.34] Tony: You know, it's so far away that you can't see it. [1485.34] Jack: Why is he messaging in the chat when he's a host of the show? [1489.34] Tony: I think he said he's fixing someone's... [1492.34] Tony: No, he's done that last night. [1497.78] Jack: He was sick of me and Sheldon arguing about what is gay [1502.78] Jack: and what isn't. [1505.78] Tony: Anyway, I'm going to try it a bit more, [1509.78] Tony: or yeah, I don't know, or try a different one. [1514.78] Tony: But Martin said something about you could try powering the... [1519.78] Tony: I think you might have said it as well, Jack, [1521.78] Tony: powering the GPS unit with a little separate battery [1526.78] Tony: or something like a 1X. [1528.78] Jack: Until you fly around and then the battery runs out [1530.78] Jack: or something happens. [1533.78] Tony: Yeah, the thing I wanted is, [1535.78] Tony: Curry Kittens, do you want to give me your little buzzer [1539.78] Tony: you got given? [1541.78] Curry: No, I haven't finished testing it. [1543.78] Curry: I've got to take it to a field and try and lose it. [1546.78] Tony: After you've done that, send it to me, please. [1549.78] Curry: I could give you one of the big ones. [1551.78] Curry: I've got a spare big one about. [1553.78] Tony: Yeah, a big one. [1555.78] Jack: Can you text your daughter and ask her, [1560.78] Jack: do she think that I could find a quad in a field? [1563.78] Jack: Or do she think I'm that stupid? I can't. [1566.78] Curry: Do you really want to know the answer to that? [1568.78] Jack: Yeah, why not? Humiliate me more? [1572.78] Jack: Bad enough, Tony doesn't even listen to me. [1575.78] Tony: GMAC FPV, it's probably interference with the frame. [1580.78] Tony: It's quite a fire. [1582.78] Curry: She already had a go at Frank for being called the wrong name. [1586.78] Curry: She thinks he doesn't know his name. [1588.78] Curry: Sophie met Frank, I said that to Frank. [1591.78] Curry: And she said, well, he introduced himself as Andrew. [1594.78] Jack: That's weird. [1597.78] Curry: She's off to a bad start there. [1601.78] Jack: Does she know how this show works? [1604.78] Curry: No. [1606.78] Curry: Do we? [1608.78] BlueOwl: No. [1610.78] Curry: I flew something today. [1612.78] Curry: I flew a whoop round the house and into the garden [1617.78] Curry: because I was reviewing some basic goggles, which was quite good fun. [1622.78] Curry: But it would be nice to fly a bit further and stuff. [1626.78] Curry: But that was my exciting story for FPV done this week. [1630.78] BlueOwl: All right. [1632.78] BlueOwl: My exciting story is that I took everything apart. [1635.78] BlueOwl: I like doing that from time to time. [1637.78] Jack: That's my girl. [1638.78] Jack: This is the camera. [1640.78] Jack: She's like fireworks. [1642.78] Jack: All of them. [1644.78] Jack: Yes, perfect. [1646.78] Jack: How many chords work? [1647.78] Jack: None. [1648.78] Jack: Great. [1649.78] BlueOwl: None. [1650.78] BlueOwl: Literally none. [1651.78] BlueOwl: But I do it for a good reason. [1653.78] BlueOwl: Usually I just do it from time to time because I love belongs. [1657.78] Jack: I don't want her to ridicule her. [1659.78] Jack: Come on. [1660.78] Jack: It's only fair. [1661.78] Jack: Equal rights. [1662.78] Curry: But her sound works. [1664.78] Curry: She's sort of there before she's done it. [1666.78] Curry: Yeah. [1667.78] Curry: After we moved it close enough to your face. [1669.78] Tony: Why am I even here? [1671.78] Tony: I can't even. [1672.78] Tony: I can't even hear Jack. [1674.78] Tony: Something in my brain just clicked. [1677.78] Tony: Disengage. [1680.78] Tony: I'm not sorry. [1683.78] BlueOwl: I'm going to finish my exciting story. [1687.78] Jack: Carry on. [1689.78] BlueOwl: Okay. [1691.78] BlueOwl: I will eventually. [1693.78] Tony: I'm not. [1702.78] BlueOwl: Okay. [1704.78] BlueOwl: All right. [1705.78] UNKNOWN: Shut up. [1708.78] BlueOwl: So. [1711.78] BlueOwl: No, that's okay. [1714.78] Jack: Okay. [1716.78] BlueOwl: So I do it from time to time because, you know, when you fly high heels, [1719.78] BlueOwl: you really crashed super hard. [1721.78] BlueOwl: I mean, I know that you guys all crashed super hard, but Heidi lives like [1725.78] BlueOwl: particularly. [1727.78] BlueOwl: Destroying the quads. [1729.78] BlueOwl: So sometimes I take them apart and I find like, I don't know, [1733.78] BlueOwl: cracked top plate or broken arm. [1736.78] BlueOwl: But I didn't, didn't, didn't even see or like a bent frame part, [1740.78] BlueOwl: whatever missing bolts. [1742.78] BlueOwl: And, and it's awful. [1744.78] BlueOwl: I don't know how these quads still fly. [1746.78] BlueOwl: So what I do sometimes, [1747.78] BlueOwl: I just take them apart and give them some love and clean them. [1751.78] BlueOwl: Just make sure everything is in place. [1753.78] BlueOwl: And then I put them back together, [1755.78] BlueOwl: but I don't really replace anything or change the settings. [1758.78] BlueOwl: Okay. It's just maintenance. [1763.78] Curry: So you've got a justifiable reason for taking it apart. [1766.78] Curry: I see. [1767.78] Curry: That makes perfect sense. [1769.78] BlueOwl: Exactly. Right. [1784.78] BlueOwl: Sorry, Jack. [1786.78] Jack: Firing a DJI Axi antenna out of my nose. [1790.78] Tony: Oh, you found my antenna then? [1792.78] Jack: Yeah, I stood on it. [1794.78] Jack: A little pointy bit at the end when in my foot. [1798.78] Jack: Oh, that's how you found it. [1800.78] Jack: That's worse than Lego. [1801.78] Frank: It was over by the sticker. [1803.78] Frank: Why didn't the Roomba find it? [1804.78] Frank: That's what I want to know. [1805.78] Frank: The Roomba pushed it. [1806.78] Frank: The Roomba pushed it over there probably. [1808.78] Jack: It was in different place every time I went to look for it. [1811.78] Tony: That Roomba is so dangerous for you. [1814.78] Tony: It doesn't kill you. [1816.78] Tony: It just tries to kill you. [1818.78] Jack: It says cat for you. [1820.78] Jack: I'm thinking about naming it after someone who hates me in my life. [1825.78] Frank: I was just thinking it's just like the Home Alone Roomba. [1828.78] Jack: That Roomba's a little arsehole. [1830.78] Tony: I can't like it. [1833.78] Jack: I've got a proper mark on the bottom of my foot as well from it. [1837.78] Tony: Oh, bless. [1839.78] Jack: I've never wished it to be a RPSMA so much in all my life. [1843.78] Jack: No SMA. [1846.78] Frank: This episode was recorded in front of a live online audience, [1849.78] Frank: downloaded and edited to make sense when it played audio only, [1853.78] Frank: censored to please the iTunes people, [1855.78] Frank: hosted on the internet, [1856.78] Frank: forwarded through to your podcast provider, [1858.78] Frank: downloaded, playing on your device, [1860.78] Frank: and is now playing in your ears. [1862.78] Frank: All thanks to our Patreons. [1864.78] Frank: Consider joining them, [1865.78] Frank: and you'll also get other online benefits. [1867.78] Frank: Find out more at patreon.com. [1871.78] Curry: Just had a random thought about LEGO [1874.78] Curry: because we can all agree that LEGO is a painful thing to stand on. [1877.78] Curry: Something that seems to wind me up now [1880.78] Curry: is when you hear an American show, [1883.78] Curry: they talk about LEGOs, [1885.78] Curry: like a LEGO is a single piece, [1887.78] Curry: and thus the plural is LEGOs. [1889.78] Curry: And I will have to say to them, [1891.78] Curry: LEGO is the plural and the singular. [1894.78] Jack: I hate that as well. [1896.78] Jack: I really hate that. [1899.78] Jack: I hate it as well. [1900.78] Jack: Capillary. [1901.78] Jack: It's capillary, God knows. [1904.78] Jack: Even capillary. [1906.78] Jack: I've never heard of that one before. [1908.78] Jack: What, capillary action? [1910.78] Jack: I hate that. [1912.78] Jack: I've always seen a wrong US nose. [1915.78] Jack: Oh my God. [1917.78] Frank: Is this all coming out because it's now safe to make jokes about America again? [1921.78] Frank: Math and maths. [1923.78] Jack: I don't mind math. [1925.78] Jack: That doesn't annoy me, like, capillary. [1928.78] Jack: It's not even... [1929.78] Jack: It's not even spelled like that. [1930.78] Jack: And I don't even know how to spell, apparently. [1933.78] Jack: Well, no, I mean... [1934.78] Tony: Not apparently. [1935.78] Jack: Can you even spell that? [1939.78] Jack: I'll have a go. Hang on. [1940.78] Jack: Let me just write in the chat. [1941.78] Jack: You guys fluff on me. [1944.78] Frank: We had some news items sent in by Robin FPV [1948.78] Frank: if he's in the chat. [1950.78] Frank: He took pity on us in the Discord [1954.78] Frank: and sent in a few different things. [1957.78] Frank: One was some images of the new battery... [1963.78] Frank: Oh wait, we're in the God world now. [1965.78] Jack: We're getting other people to do our work for us. [1967.78] Jack: Are they sending copies? [1969.78] Frank: It's the ability. [1970.78] Frank: You know, it's hanging out of these things. [1973.78] Curry: I've found something on my own, although I did steal it from Sean L. [1978.78] Frank: How does that work? [1980.78] Curry: Well, he didn't give it to me. I took it. [1983.78] Frank: Second. [1985.78] Frank: Yes, but that's surely more effort than someone sending it to you. [1988.78] Frank: That's true. [1989.78] Frank: But, you know, I wasn't making somebody do the job for me. [1994.78] Frank: What was your information you found then, Gary? [1998.78] Curry: My exciting thing, which I stole from Rob Thompson, [2002.78] Curry: because he did a video about it, was a new speed record for dynamic soaring. [2009.78] Curry: Have we heard of dynamic soaring before? [2012.78] Curry: Yeah, yeah. [2013.78] Curry: You're going to get a soaring plane, [2015.78] Curry: and apparently you need a certain type of hill [2017.78] Curry: with a certain amount of wind blowing up, [2019.78] Curry: and that allows you, as you circle up and down a hill, [2022.78] Curry: to increase your speed over and over again. [2024.78] Curry: So what you get is this wacky video [2026.78] Curry: where this plane with no engine or motor [2029.78] Curry: is just going faster and faster and faster in this bizarre loop. [2032.78] Jack: Oh, yeah. [2034.78] Curry: And it got up to 548 miles an hour. [2036.78] Curry: Would you like to see the video? [2039.78] Curry: Because I don't put it on my screen here. [2042.78] Curry: Yeah, well, I don't think I can share the actual noise [2045.78] Curry: because that would help me doing other stuff. [2049.78] Jack: Oh, come on. [2050.78] Jack: Mr. I can stream properly. [2055.12] Curry: Then I can't hear myself. [2056.12] Curry: So that is the glider. [2057.12] Curry: Apparently this is a 65-mile-an-hour wind blowing up this hill, [2061.12] Curry: and it's quite hard to see because it's this little tiny shape [2064.12] Curry: going around and around and around. [2066.12] Curry: And all during this thing, [2068.12] Curry: this guy's with a speed gun and he's shouting out speed, [2071.12] Curry: and it's like over 500 miles an hour pretty quickly. [2074.12] Curry: So it gets faster all the time? [2075.12] Curry: It gets faster and faster. [2077.12] Curry: And I struggle with line of sight. [2080.12] Tony: I can see line of sight. [2082.12] Curry: But at 500-plus miles an hour, [2084.12] Curry: can you imagine the accuracy you need? [2086.12] Curry: Don't touch the sticks too much at 500 miles an hour [2089.12] Curry: because I was just trying to work out as well [2092.12] Curry: the sort of g-force involved. [2094.12] Curry: Has it not, Pat? [2095.12] Curry: Yeah, if you're putting a plane into that tight a turn [2097.12] Curry: at 500-plus miles an hour. [2099.12] Curry: That's incredible. That's so fast. [2102.12] Curry: That's mental. [2103.12] Curry: There's not many people I know that could fly that. [2105.12] Curry: And I don't think... [2106.12] Curry: It's one of the few things I would say that would be better FPV [2109.12] Curry: because that would be absolutely fine. [2111.12] BlueOwl: Yeah, that would be horrible. [2117.12] Curry: But yeah. [2118.12] Curry: So yeah, 548 miles an hour flying around and around in circles, [2121.12] Curry: but in a more exciting way [2123.12] Curry: than the normal line of sight flying around in circles, [2125.12] Curry: I think it would be better. [2127.12] Tony: If he was wearing sandals and socks, [2129.12] Tony: I'd still talk to him because that's quite cool. [2132.12] Tony: Yeah. [2133.12] Frank: I would pay quite a lot of money to see... [2136.12] Frank: have an FPV camera on there [2138.12] Frank: and have Tony drunk on a Saturday evening [2140.12] Frank: watching that feed. [2141.12] Frank: Yeah, try and stand up. [2143.12] Curry: He was starting to get sick with his own flying, wasn't he? [2146.12] Curry: That was the good thing about this thing. [2148.12] UNKNOWN: Yes. [2149.12] Tony: Yes. [2150.12] Tony: I think that's probably why Bluelle wants to... [2154.12] Tony: I'm on, so she can see you jump. [2156.12] Tony: No. [2159.12] BlueOwl: I just want to see the world burn. [2162.12] BlueOwl: That's all I want. [2167.12] Tony: So, Saturday nights. [2170.12] Tony: Cute fest with Tony. [2172.12] Tony: On Curry, Kit and Sim. [2174.12] Tony: Maybe a year and a half ago when I got food poisoning from a cucumber. [2183.12] Jack: Are you... [2184.12] Jack: Oh yeah, I remember that. [2186.12] Jack: Are you one of these people that [2188.12] Jack: has to take their shirt off to vomit? [2191.12] Jack: No, normally. [2198.01] Jack: Apparently there's three types of people. [2200.01] Jack: Well, there's three types of people. [2202.01] Jack: There's people who need to take their shirt off to poop. [2205.01] Jack: People who have to take their shirt off to vomit. [2208.01] Jack: And then other people that can't take their shirt off. [2210.01] Jack: I am the can't take my shirt off. [2215.01] Tony: I was naked, so I was... [2218.01] Jack: You were naked. [2219.01] Tony: Yeah. [2220.01] Jack: Yeah, see? [2221.01] Jack: You just did the whole process. [2223.01] Curry: You just went in, you don't want to get on your phone. [2225.01] Curry: Mental image. [2226.01] Curry: So, you could have avoided vomiting just by putting a shirt on. [2229.01] Curry: Is this what you're saying? [2231.01] Jack: Maybe. [2232.01] Jack: I don't know. [2233.01] Jack: I remember that. [2236.26] Curry: I've never heard of it. [2238.26] Curry: There are a few types of people before. [2240.26] Curry: Those who have to take their shirt off to vomit and those who don't. [2244.26] Curry: That is the weirdest demographic split ever. [2247.26] Curry: Congrats. [2250.26] Jack: And why do people have to take their shirt off to poo? [2253.26] Jack: What are you doing with this half of their potty? [2255.26] Jack: It's just... [2256.26] Jack: It might blow back up. [2258.26] Jack: No, I think... [2260.26] Jack: It's a... [2261.26] Jack: It's a... [2262.26] Jack: It's particularly like taxing. [2264.26] Jack: So, the news that was... [2266.26] Jack: I would know. [2267.26] Jack: Robin, FPV. [2269.26] Frank: Thank you. [2273.26] Frank: The DJI battery for the DJI FPV drone. [2278.26] Jack: No one cares. [2280.26] Jack: Deep poop with your shirt on or off. [2284.26] Curry: What do you call someone that can poop with their shirt on or off? [2287.26] Curry: It's an ambidextrous pillar or...? [2289.26] Curry: Yeah, man, totally. [2290.26] Curry: Cool. [2292.26] Tony: I feel like it's just the battery for the new FPV. [2296.26] Tony: Yeah. [2297.26] Frank: So, the connectors are these kind of weird metal bits set into... [2301.26] Frank: So, they look kind of a bit like... [2304.26] Frank: It's a bit like electricity connectors. [2306.26] Frank: It's a good one, isn't it? [2307.26] Curry: In terms of how big they are and guessing how many cells they are. [2311.26] Frank: They're quite junky. [2313.26] Frank: Yeah, they're pretty sizable. [2316.26] Frank: And they've got, you know, a button and LEDs on it. [2319.26] Frank: So, presumably it's... [2320.26] Tony: A button to press and then press and hold and all that. [2324.26] Tony: It wouldn't be DJI if it didn't... [2326.26] Tony: Do we know? [2327.26] Tony: Is it 6S, 2S, 3S? [2329.26] Frank: Do we know? [2331.26] Frank: Can we do a thing on that later? [2334.26] Frank: If that was in the notes... [2337.26] Curry: I wonder if DJI insists that you have to charge them via USB [2341.26] Curry: and they take about 14 hours each if they're like 6S battery. [2344.26] Jack: Umskull says 6S. [2346.26] Jack: He's way smarter than us. [2347.26] Jack: There we go. [2348.26] Tony: Thanks, Lumskull. [2350.26] Tony: It's always good to have our listeners in tune. [2353.26] Tony: I know. [2354.26] Jack: Weird zero. [2355.26] Jack: Zero used to know everything. [2356.26] Jack: I know. [2358.26] Jack: I missed you, right? [2359.26] Frank: Yeah, so that was one bit of news that Robin found for us. [2363.26] Frank: Was this kind of weird new connector with a few other little connectors in there as well. [2367.26] Frank: And, yeah, there's that. [2370.26] Frank: There was this... [2372.26] Frank: Mr. Cake? [2373.26] Curry: You're going to have to summarise there, Frank. [2375.26] Frank: Yeah. [2377.26] Curry: Tony Cake... [2378.26] Curry: Not the regulations. [2380.26] Frank: I haven't read all this either. [2381.26] Frank: Tony Cake's got some news about the ghost. [2384.26] Frank: Yeah, it's a sexy show. [2385.26] Frank: He's doing some new things on there. [2388.26] Frank: That's still kind of going through, so... [2391.26] Frank: I don't know if anyone of us or anyone else has got any of the ghost. [2397.26] Frank: So, anyone's running the ghost? [2399.26] Frank: No, the ghost. [2400.26] Tony: No. [2401.26] Jack: I've tried it. [2402.26] Jack: Sorry for the giving to him. [2404.26] Frank: Oh, yeah. [2405.26] Frank: Oh, yeah. [2406.26] Frank: Curry, yes. [2407.26] Frank: How are you getting on with it, Curry? [2409.26] Curry: Well, I haven't... [2410.26] Curry: It's been working great in the test I did. [2413.26] Curry: No, actually, I found an error in it, which got fixed up in a previous update. [2418.26] Curry: But since that time, we've not been able to do anything, so I haven't done anything. [2422.26] Curry: I do have some bench testing to do because I wanted to, for example, [2426.26] Curry: try plugging it into a non-tramp VTX that spoke tramp and see if that still worked. [2432.26] Curry: Because one of the things you can do from it is directly attach it to a tramp [2435.26] Curry: and it will change to VTX. [2437.26] Curry: And so it will save you an extra URL, potentially, that way. [2441.26] Curry: Hmm. [2442.26] Curry: And, well, try the Mac version of the updater as well, [2448.26] Curry: because they only had a Windows version previously, but there's a Mac beater out there. [2452.26] Jack: Really, even though he develops on Mac? [2456.26] Jack: Hey! [2457.26] Jack: A bit light, isn't it? [2458.26] Jack: Oh, okay. [2459.26] Jack: Hello, everyone. [2460.26] Jack: The thing says he's had a... [2461.26] Jack: What time do you call this? [2462.26] Jack: ...arrive. [2463.26] Jack: Sorry, I'm out. [2464.26] Jack: Yeah, try not to ovulate. [2467.26] Jack: You're looking... [2470.26] Jack: N.J., are you a shirt on or off guy? [2477.26] NJ: Where's the leave button? [2480.26] NJ: I need a runway button. [2481.26] Jack: No, I've probably done Sheldon's heading. [2483.26] Jack: I can unmute myself. [2485.26] Jack: I'll give you ten minutes. [2486.26] Jack: Settle in. [2487.26] NJ: I was coming in to say... [2489.26] NJ: Well, obviously, because I finished my food, [2491.26] NJ: I didn't want to put you through having a watch me eat. [2493.26] NJ: But, yes, that glider carries. [2495.26] NJ: It's an excess of 100 Gs, that thing did. [2498.26] NJ: There's no question. [2499.26] Curry: So, is the construction of it particularly special, [2502.26] Curry: because it can't just be your regular little tiny carbon rod going through the wall? [2506.26] Curry: No, yes. [2507.26] NJ: Yeah, they are just massively reinforced to be able to deal with the amount of G force [2513.26] NJ: that they're put through. [2514.26] NJ: Colossal. [2515.26] NJ: I mean, regular manned gliders are actually... [2519.26] NJ: I'll give you an example. [2521.26] NJ: One of the best dogfighting planes in the world, [2523.26] NJ: which is all about pulling Gs and turning and shooting stuff, [2526.26] NJ: is an F-16, which pulls about seven and a half Gs, [2529.26] NJ: consistent, which is enough to make you feel pretty uncomfortable. [2532.26] NJ: Most gliders, like normal decent gliders that you see, [2536.26] NJ: will do up to nine Gs, I think, [2539.26] NJ: which gives you an idea, just like your regular half-decent gliders [2543.26] NJ: that people can go out and fly and get lessons in. [2546.26] Curry: Yeah, I think if you put somebody in 100G, [2549.26] Curry: you'd be able to put them in a little glass of water, wouldn't you? [2552.26] NJ: 100%, yeah. [2554.26] NJ: They'd be in all kinds of trouble. [2556.26] NJ: But, yeah, it was measured somewhere or calculated roughly 100Gs, [2561.26] NJ: which is just insane to think about. [2563.26] NJ: I mean, if that did fail, it would be just a colossal massive failure. [2568.26] NJ: And, yeah, transonic. [2570.26] NJ: So, pretty much on the verge of heading towards the speed of sound, [2575.26] NJ: so a transonic period where you're starting to get the pressure wave [2578.26] NJ: built up in front of the aircraft, which is... [2580.26] Curry: So, as you seem to know a lot about this, N.J., [2583.26] Curry: and I'll ask you if you ever tried it, is it possible to get it faster? [2586.26] Curry: Can an under-moted glider get to a supersonic speed [2590.26] Curry: in that method with the right circumstances? [2593.26] NJ: Well, the thing is, with trans... [2597.26] NJ: I think transonic's actually meant to be... [2600.26] NJ: It's measured in zero wind. [2602.26] NJ: So, I don't know exactly what would happen [2605.26] NJ: as you actually approach the speed of sound. [2608.26] NJ: In a glider that's doing that slope soaring technique, [2615.26] NJ: don't know is the answer. Don't know. [2619.26] Curry: It would be interesting to find out. [2623.11] Curry: It looks like they were up to 500mph limit, fairly easy. [2628.11] Curry: But they were sort of creeping, creeping, creeping. [2630.11] Curry: So, I don't know what has to change, [2632.11] Curry: whether it's all about the amount of wind coming up the slope [2635.11] Curry: or the slope profile or whatever that could affect it. [2638.11] NJ: The wind profile's a big one, [2640.11] NJ: and that's why a lot of aircraft that are designed to go supersonic [2643.11] NJ: have a delta-wing, because you get this pressure wave [2646.11] NJ: in front of the aircraft, [2648.11] NJ: and that pressure wave will basically start [2653.11] NJ: destroying lift at the front of the aerofoil [2655.11] NJ: and actually pushing this pressure wave further back [2658.11] NJ: along the leading edge of the aircraft. [2661.11] NJ: And that's where the delta-wing kind of comes into its own [2665.11] NJ: and how it's streamlining air around it. [2668.11] NJ: The Tomcat was a really clever plane, [2670.11] NJ: because that was the one, if you remember, the old Top Gun plane, [2673.11] NJ: where the wings would fold out. [2675.11] NJ: But then to go supersonic, it would fold into a delta-wing. [2680.11] NJ: But yeah, the plane has to be set up for it, [2682.11] NJ: because planes that don't have the right wing profile for that [2685.11] NJ: will just actually overspeed. [2688.11] NJ: And then you can have a situation where you get an overspeed stall. [2691.11] NJ: And when you get commercial airliners flying very, very high [2695.11] NJ: in very thin atmosphere, [2697.11] NJ: they get to a point where they'll go so fast, [2701.11] NJ: to the point where they're actually approaching the speed limit [2704.11] NJ: where they can have that problem [2706.11] NJ: where you'll stall the plane from going too fast, your overspeed. [2709.11] NJ: But then the altitude's so high [2712.11] NJ: that if you slow down not much far behind that, [2715.11] NJ: you could stall in a traditional sense. [2717.11] NJ: So you have the airspeed speed limit coming in, [2720.11] NJ: and you have the stall speed limit coming in from behind, [2724.11] NJ: and that is an area called Coughing Corner for aircraft. [2730.11] NJ: So when you get commercial airliners, [2732.11] NJ: that's basically their height and speed limit, [2734.11] NJ: because both sides of the overspeed and the underspeed [2737.11] NJ: start doing this as you get higher. [2740.11] NJ: And then some airliners, [2742.11] NJ: but there was one we flew in where we did this, [2744.11] NJ: okay, try not to name drop here, [2746.11] NJ: but we did set a high-altitude gig record [2749.11] NJ: with British Airways a while back. [2752.11] NJ: And we did that in a 737, [2754.11] NJ: and we were at 40-something thousand feet up. [2757.11] NJ: And when I spoke to the pilots, [2759.11] NJ: I said how far, because we were trying to get an altitude record, [2762.11] NJ: how far were we from stalling or overspeeding? [2765.11] NJ: And he said, actually, we had the autopilots on, [2768.11] NJ: we had clear weather, so we're able to do this, [2771.11] NJ: but we're actually about seven knots from overspeeding [2774.11] NJ: and about seven to eight knots from stalling. [2776.11] NJ: Wow. [2778.11] NJ: No, we didn't have a clue until we landed, [2781.11] NJ: and I was sitting there thinking, [2782.11] NJ: so we're back there doing this gig, [2785.11] NJ: and the whole time we were within knots of falling out. [2791.11] BlueOwl: Is there any way to recover from that, though? [2796.11] NJ: Yeah, I mean, if you overspeed or underspeed stall, [2800.11] NJ: you've got the same problem, you've got to get down into, [2803.11] NJ: I mean, it's very uncomfortable for passengers, [2805.11] NJ: because you're falling out. [2807.11] Tony: Go on, go on, go on. [2808.11] NJ: Yeah, you need to regain air speed, [2810.11] NJ: get to a lower altitude where there's more air molecules, [2812.11] NJ: you can get more laminar airflow under the wings [2815.11] NJ: and start making the aircraft fly again. [2817.11] NJ: So the long and short answer is you're pointing down to prime, [2821.11] NJ: which is not going to be... [2822.11] NJ: You're going to spill your gin and tonic. [2825.11] BlueOwl: Are you telling me that you did all this [2827.11] BlueOwl: with the passengers on board? [2830.11] NJ: So this was... [2832.11] BlueOwl: Did they sign up for it? [2833.11] NJ: This was a special event, [2835.11] NJ: but the event was to set the highest altitude gig in the world. [2839.11] NJ: We were taking the record off of James Blunt, [2842.11] NJ: who had the highest altitude gig at that point, [2845.11] NJ: and there was... [2847.11] NJ: The artist I was playing with, plus Tony Hadley, [2850.11] NJ: was there from Spandau Ballet, [2852.11] NJ: and there was a couple of other artists that we were playing, [2855.11] NJ: but they'd taken business class, [2858.11] NJ: ripped a bunch of seats out and put an area for us to perform, [2862.11] NJ: and then the rest of that was basically people [2865.11] NJ: who'd won the competition to come and be the audience, [2868.11] NJ: and then the back half of the plane was empty. [2871.11] NJ: So there was only probably about, I don't know, [2874.11] NJ: 20, 30 of us in total in this plane. [2878.11] NJ: But yeah, that was an interesting thing to find out [2881.11] NJ: about the coffee and corner thing. [2885.11] Tony: This is why SpaceX throttles down. [2888.11] Tony: No, no, they throttle back. [2891.11] NJ: I wouldn't want to comment on rocket science, [2894.11] NJ: because that is a literal thing, isn't it, rocket science? [2898.11] NJ: They do throttle back. [2900.11] NJ: What's the name of that new one that they made recently, [2904.11] NJ: the one that blew up, that was just like the best live TV ever when it did? [2910.11] NJ: What was going on? [2914.11] NJ: That was getting into, that was using drag, [2918.11] NJ: so basically it laid flat on its side. [2921.11] NJ: You tried to slow it down, [2924.11] NJ: rather than just have to put in so much fuel into slowing the thing down. [2929.11] NJ: It used its own body and air surface to actually slow down [2934.11] NJ: and then kick the tail out. [2936.11] Tony: They really did it as well. [2938.11] NJ: Yeah, one of the engines painted itself, basically, [2942.11] NJ: which is why it didn't manage it. [2944.11] NJ: But the next test of that would be brilliant. [2946.11] NJ: I'm not going to lie, I was hoping for the explosion, [2949.11] NJ: and I was like, come on, it's a prototype. [2955.11] NJ: Yeah, it's not our money then. [2957.11] NJ: That's an important thing. [2959.11] NJ: That's Elon's pocket change, is what that is. [2962.11] NJ: Yeah, pretty much. [2964.11] NJ: But yeah, super interesting. [2968.11] NJ: So yeah, at least we've taught some technical stuff. [2971.11] NJ: Sorry to take you off the subject of how you dress when taking a poop, Jack. [2977.11] BlueOwl: Yeah, that was interesting. [2981.11] Frank: Best bit of the show. [2983.11] Frank: While we were still on technical things, [2986.11] Frank: I was going to drop the last news item I had, [2990.11] Frank: which was, that's not what we were all with. [2996.11] Frank: That's the one I went with a new super capacitor design [3003.11] Frank: that they've been testing using graphene, [3006.11] Frank: which already flags up a few red flags. [3009.11] Frank: But either way, they've got it now to the point [3013.11] Frank: where they've got energy density of these super capacitors [3016.11] Frank: up against the same sort of energy density [3019.11] Frank: we have with nickel metal hydride, [3022.11] Frank: which is like, okay, [3024.11] Frank: I'm actually talking about some sensible kinds of things there. [3029.11] Frank: And obviously they've got power density that's just ridiculous [3032.11] Frank: because it's a super capacitor. [3034.11] Frank: But it means we're kind of at the point where [3038.11] Frank: if they can solve the problem of graphene, [3042.11] Frank: which is making lots of it, [3044.11] Frank: then we could get some very interesting applications for quads. [3050.11] Tony: Isn't it just... [3052.11] NJ: It really does. [3053.11] NJ: It'll be quite light as well, won't they? [3056.11] NJ: The only thing that scares me about this technology, [3059.11] NJ: and it did the first time I ever heard about it, [3061.11] NJ: is just the idea of incredible energy density [3066.11] NJ: in very small spaces. [3068.11] NJ: It's really more about energy release [3071.11] NJ: when things don't go the way they're meant to, [3074.11] NJ: that I'd be more concerned about if that was in my car. [3077.11] NJ: But all my quad. [3079.11] NJ: So I'd be interested to see the testing on that. [3082.11] NJ: A couple of guys in the chat, [3084.11] NJ: Caroline Talspin, have said Starship SN8 [3089.11] NJ: was the name of that rocket, that's the one. [3092.11] Curry: The question is, because it was small [3095.11] Curry: and I'm stupid and don't understand supercapacitors, [3098.11] Curry: if they could get this supercapacitor technology [3100.11] Curry: into the size of, let's say, a 1500 forest battery, [3103.11] Curry: then what equivalent sort of power would that give? [3106.11] Curry: How long could you fly your quad for [3108.11] Curry: on the same sort of battery size with the... [3111.11] Frank: You'd probably have something like [3114.11] Frank: 500 million powers in it or something, [3116.11] Frank: so not as much million powers in it, [3119.11] Frank: but you'd be able to do like 1000C. [3123.11] NJ: Right, so that's what they're about, exactly. [3126.11] NJ: It's the fact that you... [3127.11] NJ: And it's not just the out, it's the in. [3130.11] NJ: You could also charge them incredibly fast. [3134.11] NJ: Could you use your braking to recharge, like they do? [3139.11] NJ: That's probably it. [3141.11] NJ: I mean, it would be such a small... [3143.11] NJ: Because you've got high volts, [3144.11] NJ: but you've got low amps with braking. [3146.11] NJ: That's a difference. [3147.11] NJ: Much in the same way that a Taser works, [3149.11] NJ: if you're at all interested now. [3151.11] NJ: Not familiar with Taser. [3153.11] NJ: I mean, Sheldon's weekend. [3156.11] NJ: That's the technology side of things that people like [3159.11] NJ: Tesla are going to be interested in. [3161.11] NJ: It's the fact that there's a lot of waiting around with charging. [3164.11] NJ: There's not when you're filling up a tank of gas. [3167.11] NJ: So, at the point where you can plug into that. [3172.11] NJ: We're keeping it global, Jack. [3174.11] Jack: You and your Legos over there. [3176.11] Jack: Oh, I'm not that bad. [3177.11] NJ: I'm with Kerry Kitten on the Lego plumes. [3180.11] Curry: Yeah, we said anytime you said Betaflight, [3183.11] Curry: you'd be saying Delta next. [3185.11] NJ: I'd get to move between the... Oh, no. [3188.11] NJ: But, yeah, that's the super capacitor thing, [3191.11] NJ: is absolutely, it's incredibly high discharge, [3194.11] NJ: but also the fact that you can charge them incredibly quickly. [3198.11] NJ: So, yeah, for cars, it means that you're... [3201.11] NJ: It could be like, if you've got the power to do so, [3203.11] NJ: it means you can charge your car in 30 seconds, [3206.11] NJ: and then you're at full and you could go again. [3209.11] NJ: And the same for... [3210.11] NJ: Good for phones, then? [3213.11] NJ: Good for everything. [3214.11] NJ: Any improvement in battery technology is... [3217.11] NJ: It's going to be useful for all of us, so... [3220.11] Curry: I expect, well, come out and suddenly Banggood, [3222.11] Curry: I have some cheat and then people will start complaining [3224.11] Curry: that my super capacitor voltage is sagging all the time [3227.11] Curry: for Banggood. [3228.11] Curry: That is the thing, is it is pure voltage sag. [3231.11] Frank: It is just... [3232.11] Frank: Forget about having a nice linear [3234.11] Frank: and then it's gradually dropping off. [3236.11] Frank: It is just, from the very moment you start using it, [3239.11] Frank: it will be sagging, [3240.11] Frank: which is why you need such high voltages with it, [3242.11] Frank: because it will start off at, you know... [3244.11] Frank: Forget about having a cell voltage of, you know, 4 volts. [3249.11] Frank: You'll need a cell voltage of like 400 volts, 40 volts, [3253.11] Frank: something like that. [3254.11] Frank: You know, just a ridiculously high voltage for your cells, [3258.11] Frank: but then as soon as you start taking anything out, [3260.11] Frank: it will just drop off. [3262.11] NJ: So any of you old-school RC guys that used to... [3266.11] NJ: Or anyone that used to get the old 9-volt batteries [3269.11] NJ: and test they were okay by putting them on your tongue, [3272.11] NJ: never ever do that with super capacitors, [3275.11] NJ: because your tongue will literally explode. [3277.11] NJ: That's just something you're thinking of. [3279.11] Jack: Barbecue. [3280.11] NJ: It will just be gone. [3282.11] Jack: Yeah. [3284.11] Curry: So I see a good market here in FPV quads that are also tasers. [3289.11] Curry: So... [3291.11] Jack: Exactly. [3292.11] Jack: If you want a really good video on super capacitors [3296.11] Jack: that we could all understand and relate to, [3298.11] Jack: Tom Stanton does a little rocket video on it [3302.11] Jack: where he, funny enough, makes kind of like a SpaceX rocket [3307.11] Jack: with a super capacitor, charges it up very quickly, [3311.11] Jack: and then releases it and it launches, [3313.11] Jack: and it's quite a good episode. [3314.11] Jack: A lot of 3D printing in that, so... [3317.11] Jack: If you want to check that out, it's a really good episode. [3323.11] Curry: Cool. [3325.11] Curry: Can we mention the story that you guys shared earlier in our chat [3329.11] Curry: about the police drone? [3332.11] Curry: That was quite funny, once I read it. [3335.11] Curry: Which was essentially some... [3336.11] Curry: I forgot the name of the police force, [3338.11] Curry: but one of their office... [3340.11] Curry: drone opportunities was flying a drone, [3342.11] Curry: and a pop-up came up, so he just mashed at it [3345.11] Curry: and didn't understand that it was the emergency shut-off, [3348.11] Curry: and so their drone went 70 feet down into a pond, [3351.11] Curry: and presumably drowned. [3352.11] Frank: About 10 minutes away from where Tony is. [3355.11] Curry: Yeah, so it's probably... [3357.11] Curry: Tony was probably stood in these vans suspiciously with goggles on. [3363.11] Tony: From where they started? [3365.11] Frank: Yeah, yeah, yeah. [3367.11] Frank: All these things happen, they're all 10 minutes away from Tony. [3371.11] Frank: I think not. [3372.11] Tony: I'm going to get mixed, you know... [3374.11] Jack: I just hope there's never, ever a prostitute in that woods. [3380.11] Jack: Can you imagine having to explain, [3383.11] Jack: no officer is a complete joke, [3385.11] Jack: Tony was the most loveliest people I've ever met. [3388.11] Jack: I know you've got over a million hours of me being a dick to him, [3392.11] Jack: but honestly, he's just a window cleaner [3396.11] Jack: who pretends to think the earth's flat. [3399.11] Jack: Yeah. [3400.11] Curry: It was all that mountain bike footage, [3403.11] Curry: saying there's a lump there, what's that? [3407.11] NJ: What was in the backpack that they saw? [3410.11] NJ: You're the only person I know that essentially sees a fire [3414.11] NJ: and runs towards it, Tony. [3416.11] NJ: I don't know what this thing is... [3419.11] NJ: It's not a dream. [3420.11] NJ: Yeah. [3423.11] Tony: It's very flaky. [3424.11] Tony: I was listening to Fire in the Sky today, [3426.11] Tony: you know, Travis Walton, where he got abducted by aliens [3429.11] Tony: and he ran towards the spaceship and then got abducted. [3432.11] Tony: So that's the same kind of thing. [3434.11] Tony: I think I'd probably do that as well. [3436.11] Curry: It's an abduction if you're literally jumping onto the spaceship. [3439.11] Tony: Tony Bean! Tony Bean! [3441.11] Tony: I don't know why. [3443.11] Tony: I'd literally go so bored here. [3445.11] Tony: Being stupid capacitors. [3449.11] Curry: Have any of you guys... [3451.11] Curry: Shirts on or shirts off for alien probing, [3454.11] Curry: is the next question. [3456.11] Jack: Shirts off. [3457.11] Jack: It's got to be off. [3461.11] Tony: Oh, dear. [3462.11] Jack: When I got last probed, [3464.11] Jack: I had to put my boxes on the wrong way round. [3468.11] Jack: I'll be back. [3471.11] Frank: That's the end. [3473.11] Frank: I think that's time to end the show. [3475.11] Jack: No worries. [3476.11] Jack: Guys, thank you so much. [3478.11] Jack: We'll be opening a poll in the Discord [3480.11] Jack: whether you poop with your shirt on and off. [3482.11] Jack: Blue Owl. [3484.11] NJ: Can I just also, just quickly, [3486.11] NJ: I have to jump to the defence of Blue Owl on this one. [3489.11] NJ: They're taking apart your quad [3491.11] NJ: for nothing more than to clean everything, [3494.11] NJ: inspect it, put it back together. [3499.11] Curry: You can come to the defence of people that upgrade meaninglessly [3504.11] Curry: because they always want the latest version of stuff as well. [3507.11] Curry: But aside from you and Jack, that's it. [3509.11] Curry: You're on your own. [3511.11] Jack: At least I don't sell my bike to Clint. [3513.11] Jack: That's all I'll say. [3516.11] BlueOwl: Jack, I just hope you were listening when AJ was talking. [3521.11] BlueOwl: You wrote the message, right? [3525.11] BlueOwl: It does make sense. [3527.11] BlueOwl: Thanks. [3530.11] NJ: I can't sit there and have a drone sat next to me [3532.11] NJ: and it's got mud and there's bits. [3534.11] NJ: I can't do it. [3535.11] NJ: It can't be in the house if it's going to look like that. [3537.11] NJ: It's character. [3538.11] NJ: No, it's not character. [3540.11] NJ: I already know what your car looks like if you've got one. [3543.11] Frank: I don't have one. [3544.11] Frank: So that solves that problem. [3547.36] Jack: It's funny about the door seals one day. [3550.36] Frank: Oh, yeah. [3551.36] Frank: I mean, there's various cars I've driven [3553.36] Frank: and you can imagine the state of them. [3555.36] Jack: Why do you think these middle names Colin? [3558.36] Tony: Colin McRae, isn't it? [3560.36] Jack: Yeah. [3561.36] Jack: That was on the trip. [3563.36] Tony: They weren't mine. [3565.36] Tony: It's fine. [3566.36] Tony: On the back roads. [3567.36] Tony: Bloody hell. [3568.36] Tony: No way. [3569.36] Jack: If you want to get stranded with me, I'm your man. [3573.36] Jack: Right. [3574.36] Jack: Anyway, thank you. [3575.36] Jack: We'll be opening the poll. [3577.36] Jack: I'm sure Blue Owl is a shirt off kind of girl. [3580.36] Jack: The lovely Blue Owl tonight. [3582.36] BlueOwl: Bye. [3583.36] Jack: Tony, as we know, is definitely a shirt off kind of guy. [3587.36] Jack: What's your multiple times on the show? [3590.36] Jack: Yeah, that's a point. [3592.36] Jack: Fair play, Frank. [3594.36] Jack: Curry kitten very much like me, a shirt on kind of guy. [3598.36] Curry: I can go either way. [3600.36] Jack: Goodbye. [3602.36] Jack: Frank, I'm too scared of you to ask. [3605.36] Jack: Thank you for joining us, Frank. [3607.36] Jack: Bye. [3608.36] Jack: It's a crime against humanity if that shirt always stays on, NJ Tech. [3614.36] NJ: I've only thrown my head in my hands four times in the 15 minutes I've been on. [3620.36] Jack: I will take a day off. [3622.36] Jack: Next week's show will either be one of the best shows ever [3625.36] Jack: or one of the worst shows ever. [3627.36] Jack: And it might be the last Let's Throw Now. [3631.36] Jack: So tune in to either be well impressed or more than likely totally disappointed. [3637.36] Frank: I mean, I'm intrigued. [3639.36] Frank: I have no idea what you're talking about. [3641.36] Jack: Yeah. [3642.36] Jack: No worries. [3643.36] Jack: Thank you, guys. [3644.36] Jack: You've been listening to Let's Throw Now. [3645.36] Jack: We love you all. [3646.36] Jack: We love our Patreons. [3647.36] Jack: Thank you. [3648.36] Tony: Good night. [3649.36] Tony: Bye. [3650.36] UNKNOWN: Telemetry lost.
