[300.51] Jack: I had a really good time until the last battery.

[311.51] Tony: I'm just going to have a last battery.

[315.51] Jack: I didn't I didn't say it, but we were we're doing some like low and slow distance.
[320.51] Jack: We've done the whole diagonal of the of the field or field and cut a long story short,
[331.51] Jack: bloody low and slow, ended in a fail safe.
[336.51] Jack: And it done the usual, you know, the kiss thing where it tries to punch out a bit
[340.51] Jack: and all it done was drag itself up the little mound at the end.
[344.51] Jack: So and it landed camera facing me.
[347.51] Jack: So all the antennas were behind the actual quads.
[351.51] Jack: So got out, you know, got out two thirds of a third of the field towards it.
[358.51] Jack: Regained like telemetry.
[360.51] Jack: So I was like, I'll have a go at trying to rock it, you know, with turtle mode.
[366.51] Jack: I just rolled down the hill then bankment and ended up in the ditch.
[371.51] Jack: And then some lady who's literally walking about 20 dogs and one wasn't on the lead.
[378.51] Jack: So there was a dog like sniffing the beeping quad and she's waving.
[381.51] Jack: It's like it's there.
[382.51] Jack: And I'm like, I know like I want to do the, you know, and I'm like, yeah,
[388.51] Tony: she's trying to help, but not his dog.
[392.51] Tony: Get this away from me.
[394.51] Jack: Yeah.
[395.51] Jack: But her dog was like just putting it in its mouth.
[397.51] Jack: Right.
[398.51] Jack: And I was just like, don't do that.
[400.51] Jack: And, you know, obviously getting more in the way of the signal.
[404.51] Jack: So then I finally made it over to it and I was just like.
[408.51] Jack: And, you know, just like he just loved staying.
[413.51] Jack: Even when I got there, I was like trying to rock it from its battery.
[417.51] Jack: And it just loved being upside down.
[419.51] Jack: So I've decided that my drones a bit of a total letdown.

[429.02] Jack: You know, it was still like well within visual line of sight.

[433.02] Curry: So did your LQ just go to nothing or was there a sort of gradual
[443.02] Curry: coming down?
[444.02] Curry: Did you see?

[492.39] Tony: It's 99 permanently, but I don't think I've wired it up properly.
[496.39] Curry: Yeah, you haven't.
[498.39] Curry: In that case, you're not.
[499.39] Curry: Because last time I used it, you had to send.
[501.39] Curry: Well, I say last time before last time.
[503.39] Curry: The first time I got a crossfire and I've only got two quads on it.
[507.39] Curry: You set up LQ to push out through a channel and then you put that
[511.39] Curry: and it's 99 all the time.
[512.39] Curry: You're like, this is amazing.
[514.39] Curry: Then in 4.2, I think you don't have to do anything.
[518.39] Curry: And BetaFlight, if you use BetaFlight, not Kiss,
[522.39] Curry: gets LQ and RSSI automatically.
[525.39] Curry: You just put it on the OSD.
[527.39] Curry: And what you should be looking at is the LQ,
[529.39] Curry: because LQ gives you the type of like hurts it is.
[534.39] Curry: So if you get 2 and then colon 100,
[538.39] Curry: then you're on the very fastest mode.
[540.39] Curry: And then once that signal drops off, it goes to one,
[543.39] Curry: which is like 50 hertz mode, which is slower but good.
[546.39] Curry: And if it ever gets to zero,
[548.39] Curry: then it's like hanging on with like really slow packets.
[550.39] Curry: And that's the time you sort of turn around and come back.
[552.39] Tony: I've got mine set up on my trailer.
[554.39] Tony: So it shouts at me when it, I think it's 40%.
[558.39] Tony: I've got it as shouting.
[561.39] Tony: You're going, you know, it's getting a bit low now.
[563.39] Curry: It isn't that low.
[565.39] Curry: Call me weird, but I like to see it on the screen.
[567.39] Jack: I got telemetry.
[570.39] Jack: I got telemetry lost halfway on the field.
[574.39] Jack: And I got right to the bottom of the field.
[577.39] Jack: And then just as I start turning,
[579.39] Jack: so I didn't have RSSI low and I didn't have RSSI critical.
[583.39] Jack: All I had was telemetry lost.
[586.39] Jack: That's all I had.
[587.39] Jack: And I don't understand.
[589.39] Tony: There's got to be something wrong with either end,
[593.39] Tony: one end of, you know, the antenna.
[596.39] Frank: What orientation is the antenna on your quads?
[600.39] Frank: And what orientation is the antenna on your transmitter?
[604.39] Jack: Not ideal, Frank.
[606.39] Curry: What does that mean?
[609.39] Curry: It's either normally horizontal or vertical.
[614.39] Curry: Which way was yours?
[616.39] Jack: Well, I've got like, I've got the Mr.
[619.39] Jack: Steve immortal L, which is like that,
[623.39] Jack: which is not ideal because it means that the main antenna
[627.39] Jack: is running halfway up along the aluminium standoff,
[631.39] Jack: which is never too great.
[633.39] Tony: Yeah, but seriously, a crossfire should,
[636.39] Tony: even if it's mounted by an amateur,
[640.39] Tony: would do better than that.
[642.39] Tony: Well, I was just wondering,
[643.39] Frank: are you pointing like complete like zero dB towards each other?
[650.39] Jack: No.
[651.39] Jack: And the other one's like a slight whatever angle
[654.39] Jack: it came out of the flight case.
[659.7] Jack: Like I get it.
[661.7] Frank: Especially as you were saying,
[662.7] Frank: as you turned, it went from okay to nothing.
[666.7] Frank: That suggests to me that it might be that there's,
[670.7] Frank: you know, an orientation or a location
[672.7] Frank: or it's something about that more than something.
[677.7] Jack: I know it's like kind of user error, but 100 milliwatt open.
[688.7] Curry: Well, I think this is more of a point about,
[691.7] Curry: quads are always really more difficult
[693.7] Curry: because you're in a small space with loads of carbon
[697.7] Curry: and other electronics.
[698.7] Curry: As good as crossfire is,
[699.7] Curry: it's always going to perform better if it's out on a wing
[702.7] Curry: away from loads of electronics.
[704.7] Curry: Many more miles, you shove it into a tiny little space
[707.7] Curry: and say work the best you can.
[709.7] Curry: It's going to be like usually good for a good few kilometers,
[713.7] Curry: but a bit when it comes to any dodgy things.
[718.7] Curry: I know.
[719.7] Tony: Which of Warwick's is crossfire should do up to one kilometer
[722.7] Tony: without a tenner attached.
[724.7] Tony: Well, I agree.
[726.7] Tony: It should do.
[727.7] Jack: It must have a problem.
[729.7] Jack: You shouldn't do signal like that.
[731.7] Tony: I just agree.
[732.7] Frank: But could it be compounded user error?
[735.7] Frank: There's user error of the antennas not being in the ideal orientation
[740.7] Frank: plus perhaps mistaken the thinking that it's set to 100 milliwatts.
[747.7] Frank: No, it definitely was.
[748.7] Frank: I looked at it.
[749.7] Jack: I had a good old reader that on the walk over there, Frank, trust me.
[753.7] Tony: Even 25 milliwatts, it should do better than it should.
[758.7] Jack: I know.
[759.7] Tony: I've seen people fly miles with them.
[763.7] Curry: I had a bit of a wind blow across by the other week when I was in the field.
[767.7] Curry: But I had to take into account that I was surrounded by an electrified fence
[772.7] Curry: and there was a guy waving a metal detector around.
[775.7] Curry: And I thought this is perhaps an unfair test scenario.
[778.7] Curry: I might need a clean environment to decide it.
[781.7] Curry: I think signal is being...
[783.7] Curry: I maxed the power up to 250 milliwatts
[785.7] Curry: because it was dropping off really quickly on auto.
[788.7] Curry: It was all right on there, but...
[790.7] Tony: Yeah, it could be something in the environment.
[792.7] Tony: Was there anything near you? Any electrical stuff?
[795.7] Jack: Yeah, there was like a radio signal tower.
[800.7] Jack: I was sitting under.
[802.7] Tony: We were sitting on.
[804.7] Jack: No, it was the far right hand corner and I went to far left corner.
[810.7] Jack: And the only other thing that's changed on my quad
[813.7] Jack: is I've added one of those Immersion Rc, Impulse Rc, LEDs on the back.
[819.7] Jack: So that's got a nice voltage dropper from 4S to 5V.
[830.43] Jack: And that's the only thing that's changed.
[832.43] Jack: And yeah, I think the L-shaped antenna just isn't good as well.
[836.43] Tony: I've got the diamond on my crossfire.
[841.43] Frank: Are you absolutely certain you're set to the UK frequency?

[848.43] Curry: People saying L-shaped antenna just isn't that good.
[851.43] Tony: Well, I use the diamond on my transmitter.

[1019.15] Curry: Well, it correctly fell on the floor, which is what the failsafe did.

[1035.15] Jack: Yeah, because when it failsafe, it locks you out for a sec.
[1039.15] Jack: And then it does the kiss, punch up thing for about two seconds.

[1049.15] Frank: not just cut the motors and fall out the sky.

[1168.46] Curry: It's a 30mm normal stack.

[1180.93] Jack: but it seems to be like low to the ground.

[1187.93] Curry: People keep talking about Express's LRS as a big thing.

[1192.93] Jack: I've watched a couple of videos on it,

[1197.93] Jack: If, you know, it bypasses the whole,
[1201.93] Jack: like, you know, free sky, you know, LBT, blah, blah, blah,
[1205.93] Jack: you know, this and that, this works with this,
[1207.93] Jack: this doesn't work with that.
[1212.27] Jack: Put a crossfire antenna on an R9 module.

[1217.27] Jack: Oh, God.

[1219.27] Jack: Both were female connectors.

[1225.27] Frank: My only concern with the Express LRS is that I don't know
[1232.27] Frank: how kind of robust it is yet in terms of,
[1237.27] Frank: is it going to be the sort of thing that needs to have updates
[1240.27] Frank: when someone's found a weird bug in it?
[1242.27] Frank: Because it doesn't have over-the-air updates yet,
[1245.27] Frank: I don't think, as far as I'm aware, from what I've seen.
[1249.27] Frank: So in which case, is that going to be a case of every time
[1252.27] Frank: you go out, you need to update everything and flash it all
[1255.27] Frank: with connectors?
[1257.27] Tony: Like DJI.
[1258.27] Tony: Every time you plug, you know.
[1261.27] Curry: At least DJI is over the air.
[1264.27] Curry: Yeah, you don't want to be ripping receivers out
[1266.27] Curry: just to update them.
[1267.27] Curry: Because R9 version 1 was like, oh, yeah, yeah,
[1271.27] Curry: we'll have over-the-air updates later.
[1273.27] Curry: And then they're like, oh, yeah, well, those original
