[353.36] Frank: I went over to Jack's, said hello, and received one of the little LED PCBs that Jack's been making.

[369.36] Tony: Oh, I'm hoping to do a long range flight when this month-long easterly, westerly wind buggers off.
[379.36] Tony: It's been here literally a month on and off, that cold wind.
[385.36] Tony: When that buggers off, I'm going to go and do a long range flight down the Hidden Valley again.

[401.36] Tony: And normally the wind drops in the evenings, summer evenings that is.

[455.36] Frank: Well, there's also the other problem is the problem that is happening with shipping at the moment is that they're still trying to catch up because
[463.36] Frank: there's only so many places you can put a ship to unload it.
[467.36] Frank: And for however many days they were empty because there were no ships turning up.
[472.36] Frank: And then you've got to somehow get all the stuff off the ships.
[475.36] Frank: So there's a load of ships kind of waiting for a space to become available.

[481.36] Frank: Waiting for that to kind of work its way through.
[484.36] Frank: That is why there is a load of delays or that's another reason why there's a load of delays on drone bits and roof tents
[492.36] Frank: and whatever else you want to get hold of that isn't made in this country out of entirely stuff out of stuff that's already in the country.

[555.36] Jack: I'm back on the old, what's it called, immortal team or whatever.
[561.36] Curry: So I think the problem is that the chat didn't see the footage, well, the pictures we saw, like you complained about fail-saving.
[569.36] Curry: And then we saw a picture of you flying, which involved you going like this and holding your radio at this specific angle, which is like, I'll teach you.

[579.36] Jack: Yeah, but it's got a lot of the old, yeah, the old set up had a like immortal hell.
[588.36] Jack: So I was both, I was both vertically and horizontally polarized.
[597.36] Tony: Why don't you buy a diamond antenna for the transmitter?
[601.36] Tony: They're about 20 quid.
[603.36] Jack: Because all that does is it narrows your height for range.

[612.36] Tony: I don't think you have to worry about orientation as much.
[614.36] Tony: Well, I'll just point in the way it looks like it should go.

[626.36] Curry: Here's a question that comes up from that one as we're stuck for topics.
[629.36] Curry: Do you know you're holding your radio at this angle?
[633.36] Curry: Because often it's a case of we don't know we're doing things.
[636.36] Curry: So you see people with patch antennas with their heads down on the floor.
[640.36] Tony: That's on the person who does that.
[643.36] Curry: When I feel myself flying, because I was just wanting to film, would go around me, I noticed I swayed around a lot without noticing that.
[651.36] Curry: Jack turns around sideways.
[653.36] Jack: Do I? I don't know my transmitter like that, do I?
[657.36] Jack: You do. I've seen you fly like that.

[662.36] Frank: That was from your birthday a few years ago, two or three years ago.
[669.36] Frank: When we dragged you out to the rugby field, I think that was when it was.
[675.36] Frank: And yeah, you were having to hold your radio sort of rolled 90 degrees in order to have any signal.
[684.36] Jack: It was a bit weird.
[686.36] Jack: What was that?
[688.36] Frank: Because you had mounted your antenna on your radio horizontally parallel with the handle.
[696.36] Frank: But you had mounted the antenna on your quad vertically.
[701.36] Tony: Two years old.
[703.36] Tony: You're making mistakes.
[705.36] Jack: No, I was just too lazy to turn the antenna the right way on the transmitter.
[720.36] Curry: I think if we can ever get together again, what we should do is everybody puts goggles on, everybody flies and then we have a race on foot.
[729.36] Curry: So it's not just a case of a static image.
[730.36] Curry: You have to fly around yourself whilst running along flying.
[735.36] Jack: It's so hard to do.
[738.36] Curry: Frankly, I've got like footage of myself and it looks ridiculous.
[742.36] Curry: So I'm like, I'm in a funny place here.
[744.36] Curry: So I hover looking at myself and then I attempt to move and then I realize I'm moving the opposite to what I'm doing in the camera.
[751.36] Curry: And it's like, you know, left and right.
[753.36] Curry: It's all very weird.
[754.36] Curry: And then I almost fall over because there's lumps on the floor and stuff.
[758.36] Curry: It's good fun.
[759.36] Jack: It is so hard to do.
[762.36] Jack: He's like, yeah, I find it very, very like because you're you're walking in third person view, aren't you?
[770.36] Curry: Yes, but it's not like everything seems to be reversed as well.
[775.36] Curry: Do you remember when we tried like, let's let's FPV land in our own hand with the whoops.
[780.36] Curry: That was bizarre because it's just like I'm flying.
[783.36] Curry: I put my hand out here, quad just falls down over there somewhere because you don't mind up at all.
[787.36] Jack: Yeah, I remember that.
[790.36] Jack: Andy hopefully will come back at some point, but he's still you know, he's still basically in recovery, I think is fair to say.

[812.36] Frank: There's he's been doing some nice videos with the Pantel system on his and the head tracking on his little cubs with him and Phil out flying information using his well-honed formation flying skills from DCS.

[834.36] Jack: I remember seeing the video where there was two cows.
[841.36] Jack: One was called the little one was called Tony and the big one was called Jack.
[846.36] Jack: It was quite good.
[849.36] Jack: I know we all we all miss Andy.
[852.36] Jack: The trouble is he came back like too early and kind of like it messes up his sleep pattern after the.
[859.36] Jack: After the show, unfortunately, because, you know, and he's he's just trying to like get back to like where he was.
[869.36] Jack: There's a tremendous amount of pressure from him from like YouTube.
[875.36] Jack: I'm sure make me lab knows all about that where you know, it's and you curry where you've got to constantly be producing videos all the time.
[885.36] Curry: I've rebelled against that idea at the moment based on the fact that I can't produce anything.
[892.36] Tony: Was that because you can't go get out to fly or your knees still in or is it because you're flying fields too far now or my knees still hurts.
[901.36] Curry: And thus I get like tired really quickly.
[904.36] Curry: Also, because I've been doing reviews lately, it means that people say, well, I'm not sending any stuff to you because you don't do reviews.
[910.36] Curry: So it's going to be like not review stuff.
[912.36] Curry: It's going to be like project stuff and project stuff.
[915.36] Curry: What I notice I sent a message out to all my patron people just tell them about this is like what I've noticed about developing the same is if you spend a great deal of time on one thing, you can really move it along.
[926.36] Curry: So what I used to reviews is you have like five or six things on the go and you just do a bit here and a bit there and you get in a flying field and you've got a big bundle of stuff and you take them all out with project stuff.
[936.36] Curry: It's like you want to just keep if you just keep working on the same thing, you'll get a lot done, but you won't have lots of videos on it.
[943.36] Curry: You'll have like a video every maybe one or two weeks about this is what I did and this is how I did it and that sort of thing.
[949.36] Curry: But it's potentially more interesting.
[953.36] Frank: But not as good.
[955.36] Frank: Can you review an electric wheelchair and use that to go flying?
[959.36] Curry: I did suggest using my home built electric skateboard, but I felt this was not so good with the knee because last time I used it, I ended up in hospital because I hurt my knee after I fell off.
[973.36] Tony: Any of my friends who own electric skateboards always send me pictures of injuries and then pictures of them from hospital a couple of days later.
[982.36] Tony: So I suggest don't ever get one of them.
[985.36] Curry: It's great fun showing up in casualty with your daughter and they're like what happened to you and I say I fell off my skateboard.
[994.36] Curry: I don't have to say oh I didn't know you're writing that down.
[997.36] Curry: Could you just put them like saving orphans from a fire or something? So it's not bad.
[1003.36] Curry: I thought it was very amusing.

[1011.36] Jack: It's funny. I've ordered some new frames so I'm going to try and retire the old aliens.
[1020.36] Jack: You didn't really want to retire your aliens, did you?
[1024.36] Jack: No, not really. They do their job. They're a bit heavy though.
[1032.36] Tony: But that's what makes them nice to fly.
[1036.36] Curry: For freestyle quads sometimes weight's good, isn't it? Because it spoons everything out.
[1041.36] Jack: The trouble is I've got the weight from the old GoPro because I never subscribed to the whole session size GoPro.
[1050.36] Jack: So I've always been carrying that extra load on the front of my quads.
[1055.36] Curry: You always get a naked GoPro.
[1058.36] Jack: Yeah, I know but how long do they last?
[1063.36] Tony: Don't crash them.

[1124.36] Jack: They're a little bit different I suppose but not much.
[1128.36] Jack: It's the same with the old, what do you call it, what have you got, the chad's frame, the reverb?

[1137.36] Jack: How are you finding that? Because that's just something I was going to phone you up and ask you.
[1142.36] Jack: Because you've got like the split deck haven't you with it?
[1145.36] Tony: It flies as much the same as the alien to be honest.
[1149.36] Tony: But ones kiss V1 and ones kiss V2 and always find V2 a lot better than V1.
[1156.36] Tony: But then if you were going Apex you're going to have to use a new 4-in-1 ESC and you're not your old ESCs.
[1166.36] Jack: Yeah, some bollocks like that.
[1168.36] Tony: Can I buy the kiss V2 ESCs off you then?
[1172.36] Curry: Yeah man, if you want.
[1174.36] Curry: Question for you guys then. Aside from the build, do you find that much difference in a frame?
[1180.36] Curry: Because after you've built it I tend to find that there is a slight difference between where the battery mounts.
[1189.36] Curry: Like if it's centrally mounted things fly a little bit better than sort of below or above the frame.
[1195.36] Curry: But I have to say I don't find a massive deal of difference between the many frames and how they fly.
[1202.36] Curry: It's mostly about what sort of motors and near season tunes on them rather than the frame themselves.
[1209.36] Curry: I find the frame just like the convenient box to hold all the bits.
[1215.36] Curry: And that's outrageously heavy or light, it's like a bunch of muchness.
[1221.36] Jack: For me, the impulse RC stuff, the carbon quality is really good.
[1229.36] Jack: And they really supported the legacy stuff really well.
[1235.36] Jack: So you can go back to them and still buy a bottom plate.
[1239.36] Jack: Trouble is we live in England, so it means just importing that shit.
[1244.36] Jack: And then I'll be spending the exact same shipping and maybe some shipping costs or whatever, some import costs on just buying some spare parts.
[1259.36] Jack: Where they used to be stocked in the UK, but now the Reverb and the Apex have all got spares in the UK.
[1271.36] Jack: So for me it's like running the same frame for the longest amount of time and you get kind of used to it.
[1277.36] Jack: And I did notice from going from KISS V1 to V2, on my V1 setup, my roll and pitch speeds are very much similar.
[1292.36] Jack: Because they were set the same, but now on my V2 I'm finding that my roll rates faster than my pitch rate, even though they're set to the same thing.
[1303.36] Tony: So, yeah.
[1305.36] Tony: Your rates are ridiculously far.
[1309.36] Tony: I found that in Wales.
[1313.36] Jack: How easy is it to use a crossfire in a free Sky X-Lite?
[1320.36] Jack: Magical pencils done that, haven't you?
[1323.36] Jack: Did you buy a...
[1324.36] Curry: Did TBS have that adapter now that you can put into the...
[1328.36] Jack: I think so, yeah.
[1329.36] Curry: Because the X-Lite uses the smaller backplate, not the normal JR one.
[1336.36] Jack: You could also just go straight to the tracer if you haven't bought it, and they've got the smaller modules.
[1347.36] Jack: You'll be using 2.4, but you can actually get ones that will actually fit your X-Lite.
[1352.36] Frank: Wasn't there something going on about changing the pinouts and things of the little micros so that things wouldn't work with other things?
[1365.36] Frank: Wasn't there something going on about that, between FRSky and TBS?
[1372.36] Curry: That certainly sounds like a move Free Sky would pull.
[1375.36] Curry: They're not known for doing shady things these days, are they?
[1379.36] Tony: Not known for doing much at all these days, but...
[1382.36] Curry: I'm just saying Andy's posted a new radio, which says it's got some sort of HD capability, but no one's explained it.
[1394.36] Frank: Oh, is this the one that Oscar Lang had a little while ago, where it's got an HD screen in it, but it's not actually got anything inside it to actually feed it anything yet?
[1407.36] Tony: I think that's it.
[1410.36] Jack: Yeah, that's always a great thing to do with Free Sky stuff. The stuff that isn't implemented yet.
[1420.36] Jack: You end up living on nightly builds forever.
[1424.36] Frank: Yeah, but this isn't even getting the software to work yet.
[1429.36] Frank: The hardware isn't in there to do anything with it. It's just a screen.
[1434.36] Frank: I think, from what I remember reading, it'd be up to you to get an input from whatever HD system you're using.
[1443.86] Frank: Which, as Grumpy FPV asked, how's the open HD going, Gary?
[1451.86] Curry: Yeah, it's something I want to get back to. I've got a couple of things to get out.
[1457.86] Curry: There are views for 1, 2, 3-ish bits, and then I'm jumping back into open HD.
[1464.86] Curry: I had some ideas about, like last time I used it, I had to use the, well, I didn't have to, but I basically used this pie in a touchscreen module.
[1475.86] Curry: They didn't have the capability to also output HDMI, and I found the screen really hard to see in bright light, as most people would experience that.
[1486.86] Curry: So I thought what I'd do is just take an uncased Pi 4 with me and plug it into the Elgato and capture the output directly into a MacBook and the other side into my goggles so I can have a proper experience.
[1501.86] Curry: But yeah, the plan would be to update all the software, drive the Rover again, make sure that's okay, get the 450 flying nicely on iNav, make sure you position hold nicely, return to home.
[1513.86] Curry: Then move that to open HD, and if that's going well, then I put in an HD camera and use a CSI to HDMI converter.
[1522.86] Curry: So you take the HDMI out from the HD camera into the CSI connector on the Pi, which gives a much nicer picture, but introduces a little bit more lag, which is the reason it's not going in like a fast quad.
[1536.86] Curry: So you don't fly 100 mile an hour, a couple of inches off the floor, it's sort of more cruisy around sort of thing.
[1541.86] Curry: Yeah, which is why it's like a longer term thing, which is why you might not be seeing very many videos from me.
[1547.86] Curry: But when they come, they will be at least average quality.
[1553.86] Curry: Meet that milestone.
[1555.86] Jack: I'm very excited for that, because as far as I'm concerned, it's like, you know, not only you're going against the grain of DGI, but also, you know, Fat Shark.
[1572.86] Curry: I'd like to say I'm fighting the power, but it's mostly a financial consideration as well.
[1577.86] Frank: So if you if you were using or if you were wanting to put something on a faster model, would it be a case of using just kind of a Raspberry Pi camera, like one of the cameras that's meant for Raspberry Pi so that it's not having to do any conversion in between?
[1596.86] Curry: The delay in the system is mostly the fact that a Pi is like a something that runs an operating system.
[1605.86] Curry: So it's not the difference between that and the DGI is the GGI has a specialized chip that will basically it's just there to do conversion and compression to take an image, compress it, send it and the other end decompresses it really quickly.
[1622.86] Curry: So you get like between like 20 milliseconds and 40 milliseconds of latency.
[1627.86] Curry: What the Pi is doing is running its entire operating system. It's not got specialized hardware to do this conversion.
[1633.86] Curry: Thus, the average latency is about 100 to 120 milliseconds. So what you do is get something that can be faster. Like I think the Jets Nano, but you down to like 40, 50 milliseconds, but that's quite an expensive end to end solution.
[1650.86] Curry: I think ideally, what they're looking for is some sort of SGPA solution. So basically someone programs a chip just to do this and puts it in some embedded hardware, but that is somewhere down the line because that obviously needs money and investment to produce something, probably some buy in from some manufacturers.
[1672.86] Curry: But that would give you potentially an open source HD solution that everybody might be able to use.
[1679.86] Frank: And we'd also need a protocol. That's the other thing. You need an actual radio protocol or deal with fast enough throughput and everything, right?
[1690.86] Curry: I mean, you usually have that. I mean, at the moment, it's just Wi-Fi is not the killer for it. It's the decompression and compression of MP4 movie stuff that's just coming down.
[1708.86] Frank: Is that all the open HD is using and it's just Wi-Fi?
[1713.86] Frank: Yeah, I thought it was using some kind of slightly modified protocol. So it's not just Wi-Fi. It's like some kind of other open source project that's like Wi-Fi broadcast or something.
[1724.86] Curry: It is. It's Wi-Fi broadcast, but essentially that uses Wi-Fi still. I mean, they're slightly modified types of packets they're using, but it's still essentially, you know, it's still a Wi-Fi adapter just putting out stuff because that's still.
[1742.86] Curry: I mean, speed stuff, you can't go faster. It's just about how much bandwidth it's got going through.
[1751.86] Curry: Which is something, Caroline's asking, doesn't it send MSP for control? Yeah, it can do. At least everything, sorry. It's UDP.
[1762.46] Curry: As a standard UDP, Caroline, do you know? I did read this at some point. They had some, if it's just regular UDP, that's just what everything uses.
[1774.46] Curry: UDP is a protocol where you send packets. If the packets don't get through, everyone shucks their shoulders and says whatever. And then the next one gets through and it takes over again, which is much faster than TCP, which is a connection based protocol where it's like, here's some stuff. Did you get that stuff? [1933.46] Frank: And then you actually try to make it do something. Ten thousand things you can turn on and off. Yeah. And then trying to just make a combination of things work and then trying to understand what it's telling you when it doesn't work.
[1948.46] Frank: It's it all of a sudden you get, oh, this isn't what I'm looking at. It was the same kind of thing. It's kind of. I was going to come up with an analogy, but it's an idea that no one else will get. So it doesn't matter.
[1963.46] Curry: But the. It feels somewhere something so off. Using autopilot is a bit like using autopilot. There is no analogy. It's just.
[1974.46] Frank: I was going to say, it's like going over to direct modeling CAD after working with parametric modeling CAD, but it's.

[2262.46] Frank: So you can still use a 5.8 couple module rather than having like a 1.3 antenna sat on your face, which would be a problem.
[2271.46] Curry: As shown here in pictures that they do do, as Grumpy suggested, the crossfire nano TX, which will cut out the middle band.
[2280.46] Curry: And they allow you to just plug your module straight in, which they do on the trace as well as jack.
[2285.46] Tony: So there's a nano one now.
[2287.46] Curry: There is a nano one, so you can just plug in directly.
[2291.46] Curry: But if you've already got your JR module, of course, and make up an adapter and you'll be good.

[2300.29] Frank: So, yeah, so Carol is suggesting then you could kind of do the reverse of the 1.3 to 5.8 by having your FLSky just doing an access or whatever to an FLSky receiver that you've plugged into a crossfire module that's then doing the crossfire out to that.
[2320.57] Frank: So you've got your little base station that's receiving 1.4 and sending out crossfire to your model, but receiving FLSky and sending 5.8 back to you.
